Herbie, your latest chapter is brilliant! It's pulled together so many thoughts that have been swimming aimlessly in my brain. Like the title - there are three "Fathers" who have sinned. Anakin with Luke, obviously. Obi-Wan, with his neglect and ignorance (Anakin and Luke, separately and together). Palpatine, with his betrayal of Anakin, criminally and maybe sexually (and did he have anything to do with Padme's death?). Just...wow. 👏👏👏 Am I also getting some RotJ vibes re Anakin and Palpatine??
And for fun, I picture Anakin telling Luke that he's working for Palp for their future financial security, and naive/earnest Luke protesting and declaring "I can get a job" like the sweet baby boy he is. 💞
Last week I read over the entire story, which I hadn't done for awhile. With the additional new chapters about Luke's reactions, the story shows even more intensely his trauma and fear and how paralyzed he's become. Of course, I love it. 😈 Hooray that you've added to the chapter count! 😍😍😍
My friend, your cogent, detailed feedback is always so rewarding, I feel truly honored to receive it. I know you’re a writer yourself, so you understand how exciting it is when someone loves your work and takes the time to really look at it, to think critically about it, to wonder and imagine and notice all those seemingly innocuous, little details you added that most people miss. It’s so incredibly uplifting, and I can’t thank you enough. ♥️
Anakin may be the principle father committing the primary sin, here, but you’re absolutely right; neither Obi-Wan nor Palpatine are without their paternal influence/responsibilities and transgressions — accidental and intentional, respectively. It’s a whole mess of fathers fucking up their sons. The juicy bit is that Obi-Wan and Palpatine are at opposite ends of that fuck-up-your-kid spectrum when it comes to Anakin; Obi-Wan, absent and well-meaning; Palpatine, present and self-motivated.
So in the end we have Anakin, who, as a result, has landed somewhere in the middle — well-meaning in his own mind but self-motivated in reality. He’s the worst of both worlds, and yet of the three of them, the only one who loves his son unconditionally. Palpatine’s love is a deception, and Obi-Wan’s has been shown to have its limits, or at least its barriers. But Anakin truly loves Luke, and would love him no matter what he did, which is confusing and overwhelming to his poor son.
There are other parts of your comment that I can’t dive into because I’m a big dumb dog with a giant mouth who will spoil everything, but I can’t wait for you to read where the story goes from here, and I hope you enjoy it. ♥️ Thank you for reading and rereading and taking the time to let me know what you think of these chapters, my dear. You are so appreciated. 💋💋💋

Hi again
Guess what?
It’s been a whole two years since I published my first fic! That’s a whole two years of creative writing, which is two whole years more than I ever expected. The WIP folder continues to grow alarmingly, but I’m getting used to the ideas breathing down my neck late at night as I try to sleep :)
In this past year, I’ve written another 17 fics for a total of 112,608 words - fewer than last year, although in my defense, I also wrote a dissertation that I will defend... tomorrow (don’t worry, I’m drafting this ahead of time and scheduling it to post), so I’ve been a bit busy! And this doesn’t count my WIPs - there’s a lot of words in those WIPs :)
I’ve branched out a bit: Only 13 Star Wars fics, with 4 Sandman fics and 1 Babylon 5 fic. 6 Star Wars fics involve Thrawn, with the others focused on Andor (2), Original Characters (2), Bo Katan (1), Obi-Wan (1), and the Original Trilogy (1).
In honor of another year of writing, and hopefully having the time for NaNoWriMo this year, here’s a roundup of my fics from this year!
(Last year’s fic roundup can be found here)
Series Additions:
Glimpses of a Better Galaxy gained the promised sequel, And So We Go Marching On, following Bo Katan as she works to rebuild Mandalore following the Clone Wars and the events of Get F***ed, Palps!. Series is up to four parts, with possibly a fifth on the way. Someday.
The Adventures of the Poor Sods Left to Clean Up Rebel!Vader’s Mess is now a two part series, It’s Not Easy Being Evil as the setup for Vader’s defection and the fallout on the Executor and Cool Ranch Vader 2: Electric Boogaloo as the promised continuation! Cool Ranch Vader 2 remains an ongoing collection of one-shots in the universe, although a plot is developing in my outlines...
Samakro’s Bathtub has gained its fourth part, Ar’alani’s Day... Could Have Gone Better, continuing the saga of the captain’s bathtub on the Springhawk (which Samakro continues to insist is his). Gen, all Ace/Aro characters.
Through Darkness now has a third part, which is the longest fic I’ve written yet at 44,586 words! Damned followed my Jedi OC, Kazellis, after Order 66 as she works to pick up the pieces of her life, her Fall, and the Jedi. Follows the events of Darth Vader (2017) Issue #19. A fourth part prequel is in the works.
Thrawn Standalones:
Rebel Tactics: Thrawn and Ezra play chess and talk tactics after the Rebels finale.
An Unfortunate Meeting of Minds: Admiral Thrawn walks into an art gallery run by one Luthen Rael.
A Csannukkah Story: Vurawn and Vurika celebrate the holidays together. A lifetime later, they meet again.
And This Was the Story He Told: Vurika reads Vurawn a story. Returning to the Ascendancy, together they search for the truth in old legends.
Spoilers, C’baoth Dies: In honor of May the Fourth, a drabble (exactly 100 words) with exactly what it says on the tin.
Other Star Wars Standalones:
The Demon from the Stars: Obi-Wan hears a Tusken story and contemplates the past.
The Ghosts of My Enemies Shall Be Their Undoing: a collab with the wonderful @jedihlaalu, Luthen Rael gives his apprentice a Sith holocron with a particularly ornery ghost (Sith OC).
In Another Life: An AU where Mon Mothma never got married and never wanted to, starring Senator Bel Iblis and Bail Organa.
The Bsivi Family: A recounting of a Chiss folktale from the freezing of Csilla.
Sandman Fics:
A Visit From Death: Death comes for Roderick Burgess, and a conversation between siblings.
Forever Shall We Wait: Lucienne waits for the return of her lord as the Dreaming crumbles.
“You’ll never know how lucky you were.”: An AU where Burgess captures Death, just like he wanted. Be careful what you wish for...
Babylon 5 Fics:
Summers: An AU where Talia Winters may not be entirely erased, and Dr. Franklin has a chat with Control. Sequels are, possibly, in the works when I have time to research DID properly.
New WIPs:
Untitled Secret Empire: Post-Rebels, Thrawn seeks to return to the Empire; but events in the Chaos may demand more of his attention than he expects! Actually an older, thought-to-be-abandoned WIP. I should have known better XD Outlined, attempting to draft by mid Ahsoka season 1, hoped to be finished by the end of Ahsoka season 1. We’ll see how that goes!
Untitled Myrkyr Exploration: Post-Rebels, Thrawn and Ezra visit a most curious planet. Outlined, a few scenes written.
The Edge Between Dream and Nightmare: Post-Ascendancy novels, Che’ri’s powers develop in an unexpected direction, which leads her back to an old friend. Mostly drafted, stuck on the ending.
Have You Tried Flying In Circles: Thrawn searches for the perfect planet for his exile, much to the growing frustration of the crew of the Parala. Outlined, first section drafted.
Untitled Locked Tomb: Fallen Order crossover starring Merrin and Cal exploring the tombs of Dathomir. Outlined, first section drafted.
Somehow, Maul Has Returned: Maul dies... but his apprentice needs him. Premise drafted, but not sure where I’m going with it; might just post for others to play with once it’s edited.
Good Soldiers Follow Orders: The events of Clone Wars: Orders through Fox’s eyes. A darker characterization than fandom’s usual. Drafted, needs editing.
Untitled Chiss OC: Backstory for my original Chiss navigator character, and a look at commoner’s life on Csilla. Part 1 drafted, may expand to part 2.
Catch a Tiger (Sandman fic): Delirium is summoned by a less-than-two-penny magician. It goes poorly. Drafted, needs editing.
Up Greens! (Babylon 5 fic): The Drazi remember a time when things didn’t end in fighting, and when once again it comes times to pick sides, they call in their savior. Ivanova did not sign up for this. Drafted, needs editing.
Untitled Mari’s Story (Original Work): Backstory for a D&D NPC and their adventures in a fantasy version of northern Africa during the Islamic Golden Age. Outlined.
Updates On:
The Gambler (Rebel!Thrawn) Part 4: outlined
This’ll Make a Great Story at our Second Wedding (Thranto Ghost Marriage) Part 2: Outlined, one section written.
Sortie (Rebel!Samakro): living in my head rent-free. Still an outline and prologue.
Crotalus and Viperidae (Sith and Jedi OCs): next up once I finish Secret Empire.
Zero Station (Chiss history): well, we hit that part of the D&D game, so I have to write it eventually :)
Rise, Wrath, Ruin (Boudica original work): expanded character list and a few sections written.

Obi-Wan & Padme do let guilt weigh them down. I get the impression Padme has trauma w/all the death around her. She gets together w/Anakin after Corde dies & almost dies numerous times herself. During the CW she lost friends & everyone she knows is in constant danger. Her marriage to him is the only selfish thing she's allowed herself. I might be misremembering but I recall GL saying the "yeah dictatorship" thing was based on Anakins' talks w/Palps & he believes Palps is that guy.
I mean, Padmé is low-key up there with Obi-wan in terms of people dying, if not in her arms, then while taking up her arms as a decoy. And she just...blasts forward in terms of her duties with the Senate not to mention her wholly messed-up marriage so yeah, Padmé is an underrated character in terms of what the actual fuck is going on your life and do you have any kind of locus of control??? (And the answer is no, and you have to wonder how this is mirrored with Leia, who seems to follow a similar path, at least to some degree? And that gets into an interesting comparison of Anakin/Padmé and Han/Leia that is probably fodder for a whole different post...)
Now Anakin? Oof. He fell Palpatine's manipulations, fell for the holomedia and whatever terrible filth was traversing the Holonet...
Anakin...quite frankly, got radicalized due to a confluence of factors that can't be laid at any one being's feet. The prophecy, in my mind, was a hot load of garbage that only served to exacerbate a whole situation (thanks, Qui-gon) that fell perfectly into the flaws of the Jedi, Anakin's horrible past, and Palpatine's goals. He was a great candidate, but given another time or place, let's not think that a few other Jedi (Obi-wan) wouldn't also have been candidates for the same type of transformation.

I wish you’d write a fic where Obi-wan and Jango’s first date is beating the crap out of palpatine—they don’t know it’s him, and they don’t kill him, but it’s a near thing. Later he dies in the most undignified way possible, and it’s due to him attempting to hide his injuries.
*chin in hand*
SO me thinks this starts as one of Obi's first missions without Qui-Gon, as part of preparing him for his knight's trials, where he's checking back in on Mandalore and the duchy. but then there's this mysterious "senator" ghosting around Satine that Obi-Wan doesn't recognise and is always cloaked in shadow and he starts to have Some Thoughts about the danger of someone so dark bending the duchy's ear.
and like. Obi is the council's baby. they love him and trust him and know he's probably been ready for his trials for a while, and give him permission to pursue this lead, ostensibly as PART of his trials, but also just cause they trust his suspicions
so he goes looking and hears some whispers about Mereel's old commandos forming ranks again and Obi-Wan doesn't know if that's a good thing or not, or if they're the ones who sent that "senator" to Satine's court.
obviously the true mandalorians catch wind of a little jedi poking around sundari and keldabe, and nab him in the middle of the night while he's out investigating, and oh, he's not nearly as over his thing for Mandalorians as he'd thought he'd been
anways through details i haven't sorted yet, Obi-Wan meets Jango, Jango thinks it's the Jedi that sent the creepy senator, it's all a mess, and they end up teaming up to both investigate, and if need be, terminate this person that clearly doesn't have the best for mandalore in mind
maybe it's during a botched break in of the glass palace, or maybe they meant to catch him, but Obi and Jango catch palps by surprise and at this point palps hasn't killed his master yet, he's not nearly at full power, AND he doesn't exactly know how to fight off a highly trained jedi and a pissed off mandalorian at the same time, so they manage to beat the crap out of him before he manages to run
Obi-Wan and Jango are a little worse for wear themselves, but hey, nothing like flirting through saving each other's lives, right?
now I haven't quite figured out the timeline, or how much I want JangObi to be able to uncover about palps, but they track him to naboo
where he's just returned after the trade federation occupation (that jangobi had had no idea about for deus ex reasons but also probably cause they were in hyperspace for most of it trying to chase palps around the galaxy)
as the newly elected chancellor
which maybe JangObi don't realise even then
and I'm really not all that good with humor, but I have a few ideas how his death could go:
First, he's refusing help for his injuries because he can't be seen as week so soon into his term as chancellor, and straight up slips down the ramp of the shuttle and punctures both his lungs because jango REALLY likes kicking people in the ribs
Or maybe he makes it all the way to the globe of peace celebration when jangobi catch up to him (in disguises of course) and spook palps enough for him to try and make a run for it where he either a) slips down all those stairs, or b) tries to escape through the crowd and gets trampled by one of the giant fambaa things in the parade
Or maybe he tries to go fight his master while still injured and just like. Gets decimated. To the point Darth Plagueis is sort of ashamed he had been the one to train him. Which still leaves a sith master running around but that's for a married jango and obi to deal with later

Your opinion on Palpatine / Obi-Wan?? I'd never even considered it before and now it's living in my brain cackling like Ian McDiarmid (thank you and mneiai for that btw 😂)
So Mneiai is partially at fault for me shipping Palpatine/Obi-Wan (henceforth referred to as Odious). But ALSO, I think it's important that we consider two simple facts.
1. Obi-Wan is indisputably Sithnip.
2. Of all the Sith we meet, Sidious is THE Sith.
Conclusion: No way would Palps be able to resist Obi-Wan. Therefore Odious makes simple and perfect sense.
Odious is just plain messed up. There is no way for it to NOT be. Occasionally, I very much enjoy reading/writing such things. Plus, as a mind exercise, trying to get into Sidious' head is kind of fun and I think an excellent way to stretch my writing skills.
Uh, I don't think this ship is large enough to have unpopular opinions? So maybe the fact that I think this ship is even a thing is the unpopular opinion.

If you were to put every major Star Wars character together in one room
(This post ignores the existence of the sequel trilogy)
So, Palpatine is a scarily competent, terrifyingly powerful villain, but do you know what I love about him? He’s so terrible to people that every major Star Wars character, be they hero or villain, hates him by the end of their lifetime. Sure, most of his life, ol’ Skeevy Sheev managed to avoid people discovering his true nature before he’d finished using them for whatever purpose he had in mind. But what would happen if all the characters knew the truth?
Imagine if the Force or some other powerful mechanism managed to pull every major Star Wars character from the timeline together in one room, immediately after their deaths. They’ve all played their parts life already and become one with the Force, but the Force has one more task for them, and deposits them all, unceremoniously, in the same place. This is a lot of heroes and villains in one spot. As they start scanning the room around them in confusion and shock, they begin to note many friends they lost, but also enemies whose presence makes them itch for a fight. But then, inevitably, each character realizes they are in the same room as thEE Darth Sidious, aka Emperor Palpatine—and that’s all it takes for them to wordlessly decide, as one, to rush him first. I mean, everyone has a grudge with him, by the time of their death. Everyone:
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader: While he switched to the Light Side right before death, he’s still pretty dang Dark-susceptible, despite his remorse. (And this man takes everything personally.) So, as he looks around, only to see tons of people he’d been on opposite sides of a war from, once upon a time, his temper begins to rise. Maul… Dooku… and ugh, that ragamuffin smuggler who seems to have a thing for his daughter… but then he sees Palpatine. The old wrinkled prune who he was forced to work for for decades, who destroyed his life and nearly killed his son, who Anakin/Vader literally just thought he’d killed. Anakin rushes him in a rage on the spot, no questions asked.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Now, of course, Obi-Wan justifies everything with perfectly justifiable Jedi reasons—Sidious is a Sith Lord, the archenemy of the Jedi, and one who has taken over the galaxy and caused irreparable harm to billions of life-forms. He obviously should, strategically, not be left living any longer than can be helped. But yet… Obi-Wan truly joins the fight to kill Palpatine because of what he did to the Jedi and to his family compatriots. All of Obi-Wan’s “infinite sadness” can be traced back to him, after all.
Ahsoka Tano: She may not have known the full story, but she saw the results—Anakin became Darth Vader under Sidious’s thrall. She’s quite annoyed, since she could have sworn the sleemo had already been dealt with, years ago—but she, too, won’t ask questions if she has a chance to take him down while he’s still breathing. Palpatine is going down.
Padmé Amidala: She lived long enough to see Palpatine proclaim himself Emperor, at the very least, though she didn’t see the horrible results. But seeing everyone else’s murderous reactions—especially Anakin’s—she figures they have a good reason and gets her blaster at the ready.
Rex: This whole situation reeks of “Jedi business” shavit to him, but he won’t ever miss an opportunity to fire at the Emperor.
(Any other clone who lived past Order 66 in possession of their right mind, for that matter: It’s the Emperor! Attack!)
Count Yan Dooku/Darth Tyrannus: His final moments still ring through his head—Sidious urging Skywalker to kill him. (Skywalker, who Dooku is beginning to realize was probably his replacement.) In an instant, Dooku sets aside all other grudges to prioritize. He wants his old master dead. Nobody likes being replaced, after all, least of all—
Darth Maul. Yes, Maul sees Kenobi, his avowed worst enemy who, in his mind, just killed him, and is about to go at him first—but then he sees the sheer number of people rushing Palpatine instead, and is caught off guard. Despite himself, Maul, for once, sees some hope—a chance to take his old master down like never before. Maul, too, can be practical enough to prioritize just this once. Sidious screwed him over, too, after all—and who is Maul to ignore a chance for sweet revenge, after all.
Qui-Gon Jinn: There’s a lot of people in the room Qui-Gon doesn’t recognize, and most look older—older by far—but as multiple Jedi suddenly launch themselves at Senator Palpatine, all he has to do ask the person he’s pretty sure must be an older version of Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan responds that Palpatine is the Sith Master—and that’s that. Qui-Gon notices Maul joining the fight, and notes that once they’re done, he’ll want to take care of that problem—but he’s a patient enough Jedi to prioritize.
Asajj Ventress: Ventress also wasn’t aware of who the Sith Master was before her death, but she’s close enough to Kenobi as the fight begins to hear his answer to Qui-Gon. Palpatine is Sidious? She joins in immediately. She has an eye on Dooku the whole time, but as a former Sith apprentice, she knows how dangerous the Sith Master must be, and that he must be taken out first.
Mace Windu: You’d better believe he has a bone to pick with Skywalker, once he’s done with Palps—dude cut off his hand—but first things first? He’s got the muthafucka who electrocuted him to kill.
Luke Skywalker: At first, he’s ever so happy to see his father, Obi-Wan, and Yoda again… but seeing the Emperor again immediately brings back his worst memories. Palpatine was the ultimate evil, and regardless of whatever has caused him to live again, he shouldn’t be allowed to continue living any longer than Luke can help it.
Leia Organa: The Emperor? Leia sees him, and she’s pissed. Palpatine was everything she fought against in her young life, until he was defeated—and then she had to spend the rest of her life trying to undo his legacy of terror and despotism. Any living iteration of Palpatine must be killed, no questions asked.
Han Solo: Leia! Hey, Leia, is that the Emperor? I could’ve sworn we defeated the Empire decades ago, what the hell is going on?…. You know what, I always wanted a chance to shoot him in his ugly face. Let’s go for it.
Yoda: Bad news, the Emperor is. Failed to vanquish the Sith before, I have. But miss the opportunity to try again, I must not.
Lando Calrissian: Lando is confused. Who even are most of these people, anyway? But what the hell? He’s always hated the Emperor.
The only major characters I can think of that wouldn’t actively try to kill Palpatine wouldn’t actively stop anyone from killing him, either:
-General Grievous: As far as this guy ever knew, Palpatine was the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, so why’d he want to protect him? Kenobi’s in the room, and he’d be of a one-track mind to go after him instead—but it’d be a bit hard to do when everyone else is gunning for Palpatine, causing quite the mess.
- Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin: Seeing that the current situation isn’t going in Palpatine’s favor, Tarkin would prefer to sit back and watch everything play out. He’s power-hungry enough that he’d relish in the chance to have the Emperor taken out so he could take over instead.
-Jabba the Hutt: All Jabba cares is that Han Solo and his buddies just massacred his whole operation, killing him, too. Without enough cronies to form a defense, he’d want to get out of there to avoid it happening again. The Emperor is just a side note to him—he never cared who ruled the galaxy as long as he could continue making money.
So, in conclusion:
#Murder Palpatine Squad

Oooh, I think I was the anon who submitted the Obikin first time ask! Honestly I’d read *anything* you wrote but of the AUs, I looove our sweet virginal Obi-Wan in mirror AU, everyone in that story gets off on the fact that he’s a virgin , and since the shadow/emperor role play was so scorching, it’d be very hot to read what the reality was. Or if you wanted to take things in a whole other direction and felt like revisiting the ageswap AU that would be just fine by me!
(re, this ask:  Anonymous said:
Good heavens Glimmer, your spicy Sundays are going to kill me one of these days, but it’ll be a happy passing!!! My ask is inspired by your most recent post— so I re read a bunch of your fics and spicy snippets to confirm it hasn’t been done, but would you ever write an explicit Obikin first time?? There’s allusions to it, and roleplay, but I just want Anakin to rock virgin Obi-Wan’s world like he described in your snippet. Would it be gentle? Passionate? Fast? Pls I’m dying to know)
I....chose the “go in a whole other direction” choice, ahadfdka. SO. This is part of the reverse/age-swap au. (aka the “Anakin was trained by Qui-Gon and took Obi-Wan as a Padawan after the events of TPM!AU). You can find the first part here, though this is, obviously, set before that one.
I have MANY WARNINGS. The AU as a whole is dead dove do not eat. This part especially? Dark, manipulative Anakin (he’s got 10 more years of Palps whispering to him). Dubcon (it...fits the definition of dubcon, but I, personally, feel that it borders very close to noncon, so keep that in mind when deciding to skip or not). Emotional grooming, possessiveness, master/padawan relationship, overstimulation, etc. Obi-Wan is over the age of consent.
PLEASE READ ALL THE WARNINGS BEFORE YOU READ THE FIC. NOT SAFE FOR WIZARDS. DEAD DOVE. ETC.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obi-Wan had - just about - gotten used to kissing his Master. He still flashed hot all over every time Anakin leaned down, shocked and startled and so - so awed that Anakin wanted to touch him, to hook a finger under his chin and tilt his jaw up, to lean down and slide their mouths together.
Obi-Wan had never kissed anyone before. He’d haltingly admitted it, when Anakin asked, embarrassed because it was - was obviously something people did, just not him, and--
Anakin had seemed pleased, anyway, with the news. He’d radiated a deep, shivery kind of pleasure out into the Force and breathed, “Good,” a moment before he’d taken another kiss.
Obi-Wan had never kissed anyone but Anakin, but he thought he’d gotten pretty good at it. He still didn’t really know what to do with his hands, but that seemed to be alright. He couldn’t imagine touching Anakin the way Anakin touched him.
It seemed… he just couldn’t bring himself to pull aside his Master’s robes, to touch his bare skin, all golden and lovely. That didn’t seem to be a problem, either. Anakin showed Obi-Wan what he needed, and Obi-Wan was a fast learner.
He learned how to touch Anakin’s hardened cock, when Anakin told him to do so. He learned how to wrap his fingers around overheated flesh, how to stroke him, Anakin nuzzling against his neck and panting.
It didn’t make sense, really, that Anakin would want someone like him, but -- but his Master was the Chosen One. He knew much better than Obi-Wan. And he said, rasping, that Obi-Wan made him feel--better. Steadier. Good.
It left Obi-Wan feeling tingly and hot all over. He’d thought his heart might pound right out of his chest the first time Anakin told him to get on his knees. It had been - Obi-Wan had never opened his mouth and taken someone else into his mouth before, either.
Anakin had curled Obi-Wan’s Padawan braid around a finger and held on, rasping instructions down, watching with dark, dark eyes. And he’d promised, when Obi-Wan choked at the end, startled by the rush of fluid into his mouth, that Obi-Wan would get better at that, too.
He had.
Master Anakin was a very good teacher. Obi-Wan’s saber forms had improved rapidly under his tutelage. And Obi-Wan must have learned what to do with his mouth quickly, too, because Anakin said Obi-Wan was the best he’d ever had, said his mouth was perfect, said he was made to suck and choke and swallow, just for Anakin.
Obi-Wan’s master was the Chosen One. Obi-Wan didn’t see how he could be anything but correct.
Master Anakin said that Obi-Wan helped him touch the Force. Helped him focus on the Light. He said he needed it and--
And Obi-Wan had always tried to be a good Padawan. He grew used to the ache in his jaw and the way his throat got sore. Master Anakin was always very kind, so gentle when he wiped Obi-Wan’s face, afterwards, brushing aside any tears - Master Anakin said it was alright, he said tears were normal, when getting your throat fucked, and Obi-Wan had felt like he might die on the spot from the way he burned at the words - and smears of spit.
Anakin liked to push his come back up and over Obi-Wan’s lips, if he couldn’t swallow it all. Obi-Wan grew used to the salt-sour taste. It wasn’t so bad, really, once you’d tasted it a few times, but he preferred it when Anakin came down his throat, when he didn’t have to taste it.
His throat was sore when Anakin pulled him close, after they got back from a sparring session, tugging him into the fresher. The hot water felt good over his aching muscles but, despite the heat, he shivered when Anakin pressed close, hands settling on his hips and pulling him closer.
“Force,” Anakin said, against his neck, hands clenching against his skin. His Master was hard, but, then, Anakin had been hard when they left the sparring rooms. Obi-Wan had felt the press of his cock when Anakin pinned him, face down on the mats. Anakin had - had rubbed against him, against the swell of his ass, and Obi-Wan had frozen, wondering if he would need Obi-Wan on his knees, there, in the training rooms--
They had made it back to their quarters. He felt grateful for that, distantly, as Anakin slid a hand lower, gripping his ass and rasping, “You make me crazy, you know that?”
“I’m sorry, Master,” Obi-Wan murmured. He was never sure what to say when Anakin said such things. “I don’t mean to.”
“I don’t think that’s true,” Anakin said, and Obi-Wan felt the crook of his mouth. “I think you know exactly what you do to me, don’t you?”
Obi-Wan wanted to protest that he didn’t know what he was doing at all. But Anakin was the Chosen One. And he didn’t like it, anyway, when Obi-Wan disagreed with him. Especially when they were like this, when he needed the relief and steadiness only Obi-Wan could give him. Obi-Wan jerked out a little nod, and Anakin sucked a kiss into his skin, rasping, “I knew it.”
“Master….” Obi-Wan started, and trailed off when Anakin sucked harder at his skin, an edge of teeth sliding across his neck. Anakin put a hand on his lower back, ran his fingers up Obi-Wan’s spine and curled fingers into Obi-Wan’s hair, tilting his face back and kissing him until he felt breathless and ready to fly apart.
And then Anakin pulled away, breathing hard, and said, “Clean off. Hurry.”
“Yes, Master,” Obi-Wan said, disoriented, his heart racing. He’d expected Anakin to tell him to get on his knees, there in the shower. He had, before. Instead, Anakin did nothing more than touch him, touches lingering and possessive, as Obi-Wan scrubbed himself clean, hurriedly. “Should I…?”
“Out onto our bed,” Anakin said, pulling him close to drop a brief kiss across his mouth. It had been their bed for some time. Obi-Wan never slept in his own room, anymore. Anakin liked to keep him close at night, liked to hold him, and it was a good idea, anyway.
His Master had nightmares, so frequently. Obi-Wan could better help with them if he were there, already. He knew how to soothe Anakin’s, how to stroke back his hair and hold him until he calmed down, and if Anakin left marks on his skin from how tightly he held on, sometimes…
Well. It only went to show how bad the dreams were, how much help he needed.
He set those thoughts aside and sat on the side of the bed. He wondered if he ought to dress, but Anakin had been hard, when he left the shower. He closed his eyes, instead, tilting his head down and focusing on looking for the calm, still place inside his head, pulling the Force close and all around him.
He felt settled in his bones when Anakin cupped both sides of his jaw, tilted his face up, and kissed him. “What a dutiful Padawan I have,” Anakin said, when he drew back, his mouth curved into a smile, something besides praise in the words, something Obi-Wan couldn’t quite identify, even as Anakin continued, “Dutiful in all things, aren’t you?”
“I try to be, Master,” he said, puzzled by the way Anakin’s emotions shifted in the Force, at the way his expression tightened. He didn’t have time to discover the meaning of any of it, not with Anakin kissing him again, pushing him steadily back, until he sprawled across the mattress, Anakin stretched over him.
“Force,” Anakin rasped, against his mouth, so warm and close and - and everywhere, “you’re so beautiful like this. So perfect.” Obi-Wan felt him smile, the crook of his mouth as he slid a hand down, over Obi-Wan’s stomach, touching his cock which--he didn’t, always. Obi-Wan never knew when he would or wouldn’t. “So eager for me.”
Obi-Wan bit his lip, trying to muffle a moan, trying to hold still. Anakin would say, if he wanted Obi-Wan to move. “Look at you,” Anakin murmured, stroking him, steady and sure. Obi-Wan felt his breathing getting shallow, felt his stomach getting tight, wildly unsure why Anakin wanted to touch him like this, wanted to - to spend time trying to make Obi-Wan feel good, wanted--
“There you go,” Anakin said, quietly, breath rasping by Obi-Wan’s ear, twisting his wrist just so, relaxing his grip when Obi-Wan came with a groan. “You like that, don’t you?” he asked, smearing his fingers through the mess on Obi-Wan’s stomach. Obi-Wan nodded, dizzy-headed, and Anakin smiled against his skin. “Good. And it’ll make things easier. Spread your legs for me.”
Obi-Wan blinked, tingling still from his orgasm, thoughts feeling slow and drifting. But he shifted a leg to the side, almost automatically. He’d gotten very used to doing what Anakin told him to do. That was what Padawans did. They obeyed their Masters and he was a good Padawan, he--
Jolted when Anakin shifted up, frowning at him, and said, “I said spread your legs, Obi-Wan.”
“I’m sorry,” he panted out, not entirely sure what was going on. He’d expected Anakin to shift up the bed, to put his knees on either side of Obi-Wan’s shoulders and slide his cock between Obi-Wan’s lips, or to rub against him, sometimes he liked to do that, too, it--
Anakin said, “Better,” and shifted so he could crouch between Obi-Wan’s legs, running his hands up Obi-Wan’s thighs from knee to hip. He squeezed a little, gaze hungry and roving, as he said, “I can’t even think, looking at you. You are so...perfect.”
He leaned forward, bracing a hand by Obi-Wan’s head and kissing him again, deep and hard. He was still kissing Obi-Wan, nipping at Obi-Wan’s bottom lip, when he slid his hand up Obi-Wan’s leg, past his spent cock, and--
Obi-Wan made a harsh sound, jerking at a sudden - sudden press into him and--
Anakin panted, “Sh, sh, relax,” curled up over him, weight keeping Obi-Wan against the mattress. He had--he’d put-- “Fuck, you feel so good. You’re so tight. So hot. I knew you would be.”
Obi-Wan opened his mouth and shut it again, soundless. He started to reach up, not sure what he planned to do with his hands, and lowered them back to the bed, instead, twisting his fingers into the sheets, feeling like his skin was too tight, all of a sudden, heat washing over his face and down his chest and back when Anakin slid his finger out. Obi-Wan thought maybe--
Anakin pushed his finger in again, and Obi-Wan heard the sound he made from a distance, body clenching around the intrusion even as Anakin shifted, trailing kisses down his throat, the pressure of his mouth and teeth a distracting counterpoint to the continued movement of his hand.
Obi-Wan tensed, hearing the crack in his own voice when he cried out, “Master,” when Anakin slid another finger into him, and the stretch felt - felt impossible, too much, and--
“It’s alright,” Anakin said, nipping at his collarbone. “You’re doing so well, Obi-Wan. I knew you would. You’re always just what I need.” And he twisted his fingers, knuckles catching and Obi-Wan cried out again, at a jolt of electric sensation--
Anakin made a thick, amused sound. He crooked his fingers, spreading them out while they were inside and said, “Fuck, I knew you’d love it. Look at you.” He slid his other hand over, fingers brushing over Obi-Wan’s cock - twitching a bit with whatever Anakin was doing and-- Obi-Wan blinked, rapidly, trying to clear his eyes, trying to breathe deep and steady.
And he supposed he did like it - it was making him hard, making his gut tight and his spine all liquid heat. He just wished he could do more than gulp at the air, trembling as Anakin rasped, “I think you can take another.”
Obi-Wan turned his face to the side, gasping, legs tensing where they’d curled up against Anakin’s sides and hips. He thought he might fly apart. It didn’t -- hurt, exactly, the stretching pressure, but it was so strange and it burned, a little, and Anakin kept - kept twisting his fingers, hitting something that made Obi-Wan’s spine arch, that--
“It’s alright,” Anakin said, “you can make noises for me, let me hear how you like it.”
The next twist of his fingers did drag a noise from Obi-Wan’s throat, ragged. And he - and if Anakin said, then he must, then--
Anakin slid fingers across his cock, and stroked him, kneeling there between his legs, the sensations caused by his hands building on one another, higher and higher. Obi-Wan tightened his fingers in the sheets, burning up under his skin, and Anakin did not relent, did not slow his pace at all, until Obi-Wan bowed up, cock jerking with the force of his orgasm.
Anakin slid his fingers free while Obi-Wan was still shaking, and Obi-Wan cried out, sharp. It felt far too loud in the quiet of their room. Anakin didn’t chide him, though, only smiled down at him, so lovely, almost glowing through the Force, his hair disheveled and--
Obi-Wan had to curl his legs up when Anakin settled against him, his heels bumping awkwardly against Anakin’s back. Anakin rocked against him, still hard - but, then, Obi-Wan hadn’t done anything, none of the things Anakin usually needed him to do.
Anakin curled down over him, grabbed his chin and turned his face back, kissing him hard while Obi-Wan tried to get his breath back, and--
Obi-Wan cried out against his mouth, Anakin swallowing the sound, when Anakin put his other hand on Obi-Wan’s hip, gripped hard and shifted forward. There was pressure, sudden, sliding against him where he was so tender and sensitive already, and then into him, thicker than Anakin’s fingers, hot and hard and--
“Fuck,” Anakin rasped, against his mouth, “yeah, Obi-Wan, just like that.”
Obi-Wan twisted, but there was no where to go and - and anyway, he could feel the pleasure rolling off of Anakin, flowing through their bond and rushing into his head. Anakin liked this, liked pushing further and further in, his emotions loud and bright and sharp.
Obi-Wan breathed shallow, his heart racing in his chest, hands off the blankets despite all his best efforts because he needed something more solid to hold onto, so he didn’t fly apart. Anakin didn’t chide him, when Obi-Wan gripped at his arm and one shoulder, holding on tightly, thoughtlessly, and then Anakin stopped, pressed flush against him.
His body was warm and solid, stretched out across Obi-Wan, but it was so hard to focus on that, so hard to focus on anything but the - the stretch of him, inside. “Force,” Anakin said, voice all thick with pleasure, “you’re perfect, Obi-Wan, just right. So hot and tight for me, aren’t you?”
Obi-Wan nodded, jerkily, not sure he could manage words. He felt--split apart, like he was choking even with nothing in his throat, his ribs all tight around his lungs and his skin burning. It was--so much, all over, he couldn’t--
“You were meant for this,” Anakin murmured, thick, shifting and it was too much, Obi-Wan couldn’t-- “Meant to take me, the Force made sure we’d find each other. The universe knew how much I’d need you. Knew you were mine.”
Obi-Wan blinked, but it did nothing to clear his vision. He tightened his hold on Anakin, tilting his face up, gasping for air in his overheated lungs, stretched and filled and-- And this was what Anakin needed and -- and Anakin was the Chosen One, and Obi-Wan was his - his Padawan, his--
He got lost, listening to his own voice, the sounds he made as Anakin moved above him, around him, inside him. The burn faded, his body giving way, learning what Anakin needed, but it was still - each thrust lit up all his nerves, too bright. He felt over sensitive, aching as Anakin panted above, skin shined with exertion, expression written all over with pleasure.
Obi-Wan held onto that, onto knowing Anakin needed this, needed to push into him, folding him up a little further, rasping, “I need you so much, Obi-Wan. I need you - just like this, I--tell me, tell me you’re mine.”
Obi-Wan wasn’t sure he could breathe enough to form words. He wasn’t sure it was right to say that he was Anakin’s. But - but Anakin had asked, before. He needed it, needed that connection, and Obi-Wan was the only one who could help, he - he reached out with the Force, desperately, looking for balance, and found it after a moment. Enough, anyway, to suck in a breath, to gasp out, “I’m yours, Master.”
Anakin made a ragged, thick sound and the next thrust of his hips drove Obi-Wan’s up the bed. He held on, noises punched from his chest, hoping that--
That Anakin would find what he needed. Quickly. And he must have, because his pleasure crested in the Force, spilling around them both, even as he sagged down, weight pressing Obi-Wan into the mattress, making his hips ache from the stretch.
“Kriffing hell,” Anakin said, a moment later, nuzzling against the side of Obi-Wan’s neck as Obi-Wan tried to relearn what the inside of his skin felt like, “the things you do to me.”
girl help ok so i was thinking about Tamohara being super afraid that someone will find out she's queer because Palps is definitely homophobic and i think they'd kinda have some. internalised homophobia/transphobia because of him and she'd be like oh no oh god no one can find out everyone is going to hate me oh fuck- and she's up late one night thinking about it and just starts silently crying and Obi-Wan hears or maybe he just senses something is wrong and he's probably been suspecting they're not cishet for a good while and he has a feeling that it's related to that and he sees her looking up on the holonet like lgbt+ resources or something? and they're a mess and they're apologising and she's just really upset with herself and Obi-Wan is like hey, it's alright, it's alright to be bisexual, it's alright to be genderqueer, it's alright to be who you are. i will always accept you no matter your identity. in fact, i'm like this too. because i hc him as bi and also not cis (idk what gender he is but he's Not Cis)
and they're like :'o??????? because they've never had that kind of acceptance in their life and after a while she's able to get to sleep and the next day Obi-Wan tells the younglings to be extra nice to her because she's a bit upset and also Grim finds out about this and convinces Obi-Wan to let her make cupcakes or something with the younglings with the bi colours on the icing because things are pretty shitty on Earth for lgbtq+ peeps and she does Not want her space friend to feel the same way and i am having some Thoughts about this because it's so adorable JDKSFMALCSIKDU-
Also I hope you don't mind me putting my oc brainrot in your askbox
No but this absolutely adorable and I love this!
Bisexual cupcakes!
I also agree with your headcanon on Obi-Wan not being straight, I believe he’s Pan honestly but Bi is good too, and I think he’s transgender.
None of these disasters are straight.
Also I love oc brainrot you and anyone else is totally allowed to just share your oc brainrot with me I love to hear it!
Ben Solo/Kylo Ren: a character analysis
OK, first things first: THIS ISN’T A STAN OR ANTI POST. This is a character study, and if you can’t handle this character getting impartial concrit, just don’t read. If, however, you don’t agree with some of the points I’m going to make and want to have a healthy discussion about it, then I’m all ears. I don’t think my opinion is the only valid one, so feel free to try and change my mind.
And second things second: I tried so hard to love the sequel trilogy, but when it became clear after TROS that the studio had no plan other than making money, it became very difficult. I’m aware that the main problem for all the characters is the lack of general planing in this whole mess of trilogy, so keep this always in mind while reading this post: the first problem of this character was that the studio didn’t even know what to do with him.
Tumblr media
1. Does Ben Solo becoming Kylo Ren make sense?
I checked the comics to get his background better. He had a happy childhood traveling a lot with Han and Leia, but when she discovered about the First Order, she sent him to train with Luke while Han and Chewie ran undercover missions for her. This is important: up to this point, he had a good relationship with his family, even if he was already being pulled by the dark side of the Force. It was during his adolescence that he started to be really seduced by Snoke, hearing the voice he thought belonged to Darth Vader. After the Luke incident, he did explode the cabin and thought he had killed his uncle, but he was not the one who killed all the other students and destroyed the temple: that was Snoke’s thing. He did kill some of his fellow Jedi apprentices later on, though. So, his turning points were Luke’s treason and Snoke’s coordinated abduction. And I would like to point out: the Sith training involves torture and brainwashing, so the first wrong impression I would like to correct about this character is that he was not simply a dick and revolted teen who ran away to join a cult.
BUT, there are some huge problems here. The first one is that when you watch the movies, you don’t learn anything about that aside from Luke’s part. In the way he’s presented in TFA, he’s Leia and Han’s son who betrayed his family, destroyed his uncles’ dream and joined the dark side for no reason. OF COURSE half of the audience wouldn’t like him. That wouldn’t be a problem if they just wanted him to be a villain like Darth Vader was, but it’s very clear that there was a plan (at least for one director) to make him a supposedly redeemable character. And how can we sympathize with his character like that? Even after we get to know what Luke almost did, the next question is simple: ok, so why he didn’t go back to Han and Leia?
And here is the second huge problem: we learned that after Ben leaves Yavin IV, Luke vanished, and Han and Leia broke up and went back to smuggling/leading a rebellion. And I can’t stress this enough, this doesn’t make any sense. The sequel trilogy killed Luke, Han, and Leia’s characters. These three characters that we have known for years would never, ever, had abandoned Ben Solo. Leia F*cking Organa and Han shot-first Solo would have brought their son back or die trying. Luke Skywalker is not a coward, he wouldn’t go into hiding and abandoned his only sister to clean up his mess during another war, let alone close himself to the Force, knowing full well he wouldn’t be able to feel if she was in danger. Just remember Han risking his life to save Luke in Hoth; or Leia leaving the rebellion to rescue Han from Jabba; or Luke straight-up disobeying ghost Obi-Wan and ghost Yoda to save Han and Leia, even if that costed the war. They were older and different, for sure, but we are talking about the quintessential things, the things that make these beloved characters themselves.
Tumblr media
(THIS ^^. This right here is the spirit of Star Wars)
So no, in the way it was done in the movies, Ben Solo becoming Kylo Ren doesn’t make sense to the audience, and that’s a huge problem. A friend of mine suggested once that instead of being a rip-off of ANH, TFA should have been a movie about the beginning of the First Order (because after we defeat the Empire on episode VI, episode VII starting with ANOTHER all-powerful evil government already dominating the galaxy and exploding planets just throws away all the previous movies’ efforts) and about how Ben Solo becomes Kylo Ren. Just imagine if Rey, Finn and Poe had interacted with Ben Solo before he becomes evil: the stakes would have been so much higher, and it could have been well done. It would have made this character more human and likable.
2. Kylo Ren’s motivations: what does he want?
If the OT was about hope, I think we can agree that the ST’s themes are legacy and belonging. Having their protagonists, Rey and Ben/Kylo representing two apposite sides of those things was one of the best ideas for the new saga.  Rey looks for belonging in the past she doesn’t know, while Kylo wants to abandon Ben Solo’s past and find his place in his future as Kylo Ren.
In that sense, his character arc was somehow solid. In TFA, it’s clear he’s still struggling with the dark side and feels the temptation of the light: he loses control easily, and he’s not doing anything unless Snoke orders him to. Ok, but why? Why is he clinging to Darth Vader’s ideals and staying in the sith path? Basically because he thinks it’s too late, and he has no other options. Which brings us back to the problem with Han and Leia: his parents didn’t go after him, they chose to go back to their old lives – of course he would think there’s no going back for him now. “But he is an adult man and could make his own decisions.” It’s a fair point, but again: sith training corrupts you and even if he had escaped, the only thing that would happen would be Snoke finding him again. It’s kinda like leaving an addiction: you supposedly can do it by yourself, but it is so much easier if you have help. Not a simple promise or offer, but actual, constant, and present help. I can not stress this enough, but I insist that one of the main problems with the sequel trilogy was not explaining in a satisfactory way HOW and WHY he turned to the dark side and stayed there.
3. Han Solo
Okay, I will admit: maybe my opinion on this specific topic is biased, because Han Solo is my favorite SW character. You may call me out as a fangirl if you don’t agree, but my point is: making Kylo Ren kill Han Solo was a bad idea. They basically killed the character for half of the audience, with zero chance of redemption.
It’s because it’s fratricide. Unless your father is Satan, the Emperor, or someone as equally villainous, fratricide is just that bad. It’s not easy to redeem a character who commits murder, but one that kills his own father? Who happens to be one of the good guys? And one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the franchise? There were other options to give Kylo Ren a tipping point, a conflicted moment that didn’t involve killing Han Solo. But they did, and he killed him. And now he’s no longer a villain we can sympathize with: now we think he’s a monster.
4. His interactions with Rey in TLJ
(I’m not wearing shipper goggles for this. I don’t even own shipper goggles when we are talking about Star Wars.)
Kylo Ren is conflicted after killing Han Solo, (and I will make a small pause here to reinforce how good Adam Driver’s acting was. He’s the only responsible for all the likable parts of Kylo Ren, especially in this movie). Kylo is once again unstable and Snoke is displeased with him, and for a moment we think he finally turned completely to the dark side, until he pauses before shooting Leia’s ship.
The force bond was the most interesting part of the movie. I don’t agree that he used it to manipulate Rey: if anything, he was completely harsh and blunt and kind of a dick to her, but he didn’t lie. He told her things how he saw it, with so much conviction that she started to see his side of the story. And since she was probably the first person in years that actually listened to him, his decision of murdering Snoke and inviting her to join the dark side makes very much sense.
We are talking about motivations and his are simple: let the past die, forge a new path. When he kills Snoke and no longer has a master, he only has one option: to become the master. That’s why he takes over the FO, and wants Rey to be his apprentice. Does the character suffer from sith-tunnel-vision? Definitely. But it makes sense. His decision-making is not overly complicated: he feels alone, and he wants a purpose: he decides that the solution for both is Rey joining him in the dark side. When she refuses, he still has one purpose: the FO.
This is, however, the point where he turns his back to the light completely: on Crait, he orders the FO to explode the Rebel Base and kill everyone, knowing full well his mother was in there. He orders them to exploded the Falcon out of the sky, once again knowing that Chewie and Rey are on board. When facing Luke, he repeats that he will kill Rey and the rebels. His transition from conflicted sith apprentice to the new villain of the franchise was actually well done.
And exactly because of that, the next topic pisses me off so much.
5. The continuity problem between episodes VIII and IX
Introducing Palpatine here was bad for so many reasons: backtracking Rey’s arc, making us think about Palps’ sex life, insisting on beating a literal dead horse when there were new things to explore, etc etc. And it was also bad for Kylo Ren’ arc. As I said before, the way they finished episode VIII, everything pointed to Kylo becoming the final evil Rey would have to face, and that would have been awesome. We didn’t need Palps, or ANOTHER all-powerful evil army ready to conquer the galaxy with exploding-planets-tech (seriously, is Alderaan a joke to you, Disn*y?).
  But, in the third movie, they went back and decided they didn’t want Kylo Ren to be the ultimate villain anymore. They wanted him to be redeemed. And that’s not bad per se, but an actual redemption arc needs to be planned, and I think we can all agree, there was no planning in the sequels. And again, FRATRICIDE. So they introduced an old, more powerful evil to make Kylo Ren less evil and less of a threat in comparison. And evil so definitive, and with such a bullshit connection to Rey, that it makes Kylo reconsider his previous promises of killing the last jedi and going back to the plan of making her turn.
And so, his character spends the movie going after Rey, to tell her the bullshit truth about her parents, to convince her to join him. At least his arc is still somehow solid, because once he’s decided on his path, he doesn’t lose control like in the previous movies, and his body language is more firm and lethal. Which, honestly, thanks Adam Driver, he knew the character way better than the director at this point.
He finally comes back to the light when Leia dies. Although it was rushed, I agree that, at that point, it was literally the only thing that could have made him turn. Rey reminding him that he wouldn’t be alone if he hadn’t chosen the dark side helped, too. It was clear that the moment with Han Solo was supposed to be with Leia, but I’m really glad Harrison Ford agreed to come back to fill in the role for his old friend.
Tumblr media
6. Ben Solo
Okay, there’s so much to unpack here. When Ben Solo finally comes out to play, it’s very good. We can finally see some things that explain Kylo Ren better – it’s so obvious how awkward he was in his own body trying to be an evil sith lord when he is clearly a natural disaster. He still suffers from tunnel vision, but at least now it’s Skywalker-do-or-die tunnel vision. It’s like a weight was lifted from his shoulders, and the way his actions scream Han Solo makes me, once again, wish the first movie had been about him, and not the whole “find a map/ Star Killer base was ANOTHER ridiculous idea / I know R2’s alignment is chaotic bastard but COME ON”.
Tumblr media
Star Wars has a notorious story with pulling Force powers out of nowhere, and I’m not going to pretend to be an expert in SW lore, so I won’t complain about the dyad thing (and the weird stuff with the light sabers). I honestly liked the concept. There’s a lot I have to say about the final battle against Palpatine, but I think it would fit better in a future character study about Rey (God, that’s going to be another long ass post). I just want to add that after Luke insisted on her taking both light sabers to Exegol, and after all the crazy stuff Ben did to get to her, they should have, you know, actually fought side by side against 85% dead Palpatine? Aren’t these two idiots supposed to be stronger than that?? I’m not complaining about Rey bringing him down “alone” since she is the protagonist yada yada, I just wished that Ben had done something, instead of being thrown into a hole.
(Palps did that out of spite because of his grandfather? I bet he did.)
I won’t say I didn’t cry hearing the voices of the past jedi talking to Rey, because I definitely did. If anything, it was great to see so many beloved actors getting a chance to honor such iconic characters. But are you freaking shitting on us? Where were ANY of those assholes when Luke, Leia and Ben needed them, like, ten years ago?? “Well, force ghosts should not be used as ex machinas, and they don’t see the future” Tell that to episodes IV, V and VI. Anakin, Obi Wan and Yoda can show up for Vader weird funeral/party with ewoks but they can’t send a jedi signal for the Skywalkers to warn them about Sith bullshit about to happen? “They were probably ahead in the world the comes next and they didn’t have a way to come back, they just talked to Rey because Exegol is a Force nexus and-” And so is Ach-To. And so is Yavin IV. And so is Dagoba (Yes, Snoke sent Ben there for training). Look, I have no problems with Force Ghosts, I love them bastards. I’m just so freaking mad with the lack of coherence in this trilogy. If they did not talk to the Skywalkers – and I’m sure at least Luke and Ben asked Obi Wan/Anakin to show themselves A LOT – they should not have talked to Rey. It was a crowd please moment, for sure, but it was another gigantic middle finger to Ben Solo (before he becomes Kylo Ren).
And then Rey died, and Ben brings her back. I know how many funny jokes are going around in the fandom about how resurrecting Qui-Gon or Padme would have saved the galaxy so much trouble, but again, I’m okay with that. It was previously established that since they were a dyad, they had this living Force between them (although it was rushed in the final like everything else). And it does make sense Ben doing that: he had just come back to the light, and his parents were both dead. Han and Leia were gone because of him, the last time he saw Chewie was as his captor, and before that, he got shot by him, etc, you get the idea. He had nothing else, only this: the chance to make it right by a person that genuinely cared for him. Exchanging his life for Rey’s was nothing: he knew that his family would be waiting for him in the world that comes after.
So, did I like the Bendemption? It. Was. Not. A. Redemption. It was the right choice, and it made things right between him and Rey, because she forgave him for everything. But that’s it. He did not face the consequence of any of his previous actions. “But he died for her!” And we just established that it was not a difficult choice, considering that he had literally no reasons to stay alive if Rey was dead. If you want to see an actual redemption arc, go watch Avatar the Legend of Aang.
And finally, the kiss and the death. Okay, I know I’m digging my own grave by addressing that, but my mama raised no coward. Here it goes: it was fan service, pure and simple. It’s there to make part of the fanbase happy. Good for you, reylos, but to us, not shippers, it came out of nowhere. And I’m not questioning if they had feelings for each other or not: I’m talking about pacing and characterization. I’m not 100% convinced that Rey, as a character, as she was presented to us so far, would have done that. It felt out of place, and it broke the immersion of the scene. I was emotionally invested on what was going on, I was happy to see Ben smiling at her and everything, but then suddenly they were sucking faces and the “FAN SERVICE” alarm was so loud in my mind that I immediately lost interest. If they wanted that in the movie so much, there was probably a better way to do that.
It makes sense that Ben had to die to bring Rey back: one life for another and everything. I still think that, story-wise, it would have been better if none of them had died a ridiculous death, and Ben had faced the consequences of his actions as Kylo Ren, but okay, moving on.  The main problem here is what happens after he dies: nothing. Absolute-effing-nothing. He dies, he disappears – which, again, I won’t question because Leia was involved and Skywalkers do whatever they want with the Force and I’m no expert – but that’s it. Rey, the same Rey that had just jumped his bones fifteen seconds earlier, doesn’t even mourn him. She doesn’t cry, she doesn’t do anything for him in the end, she just goes to Tattooine because it makes sense to the Skywalker saga to end where it started. She sees more of those Force Ghosts who never appear when they freaking should and that’s it.
Why is it bad? Well, first, like it or not, Ben Solo/Kylo Ren was one of the main characters and he deserved an actual final. Finn and Poe too, but those are long posts for another day. And second, it makes the fan-service in that kiss scene more evident. You can’t have the girl kiss him and in the next scene act like it didn’t matter at all. “Ok, then it was a thank-you kiss and there were no real feelings of loved involved”. But that makes it worse, it would be even more completely out of character for Rey – who avoids physical contact with people on the regular – to just kiss someone as a thank-you. Do you see how the math does not compute? If she had feelings for him, and therefore kissed him, she should have mourned him. If anything, she should at least miss her other part of the dyad thing. And if she didn’t mourn him because she didn’t have actual feelings, then she should not have kissed him. A little consistency, it’s all I’m asking.
Tumblr media
7. Conclusions (aka tl;dr)
He was a somehow consistent character, but the lack of plot for the sequels was a huge problem. If the trilogy had been about Ben Solo becomes Kylo Ren – Kylo Ren kills Snoke and becomes the real villain – Rey faces Kylo Ren and she either saves him or kills him, it would have been so much better than the mess the studio did.
His story in the comics is so much more complex than what it is shown in the movies, but what they did to Han, Leia and Luke was a crime.
It was clear that one director had a vision to give him a redemption, and the other to make him the ultimate villain.
Adam Driver did what he could to make this character solid and somehow likable, let’s thank him for that.
There was no reason to bring Palps back,
Rey’s actions in the final are contradictory,
He should have stayed alive to face the consequences of his actions,
and the studio is charged guilt for getting our hopes up just to crush them with their lack of interest in doing something descent for the fans.
But again, that’s just my analysis of this character. Feel free to disagree with me, I would love to see what other people think about Ben Solo/Kylo Ren.
TroS reaction (1st view)
Necessary premise in bullet points:
- I liked TFA when it came out and still do but as I dug into the franchise/canon (Disney only by choice) my enjoyment of it became more lukewarm. Came out of it dreading a potential Reylo but liking the two charas on their own.
- went into TLJ worried I’d hate it, came out with it being my favorite saga movie and sold on the Rey-Ren connection, whatever road it would’ve taken. Loved the “Rey’s powerful on her own/bc the Force wants to set Kylo’s wrongs right”. It felt good after two years of being bombarded with “this fucking Mary Sue can have any power only if she’s connected to powerful men of the saga, she has otherwise no right in being powerful” in forums spaces.
- went into TroS non-spoiled, wary of Palpatine return but relatively hopeful if soured about the “JJ our lord and saviour pleease save us from evil evil Jonhson” (HA!). The rumors about lore from the tv series being featured into the movie had me excited.
That said, here goes: [SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE MOVIE, ENDING INCLUDED, RIGHT OFF THE BAT]
I didn’t like it. I really hope to warm up to it more in future views, there’s absolutely stuff I liked or even loved, but as it stands now it was overall a massive disappointment on many sides and -worst of all- threatens to retroactively ruin my enjoyment in other previous stories.
First, the positives:
- Parentage notwithstanding, Rey was good. Her rage, her fears, her good heart, her commitment to the fight and the training, her longing for guidance… truly, if the bloodline revelation hadn’t retroactively ruined my investment in the character and themes I’d have fully, 100% loved her even if every single other part of the movie had been the same.
Except for a brief war flashback to Starkiller game abilities (I lolled) I wasn’t even troubled by all the new abilities or their scope. Movies’ been inventing new powers since the beginning and the Force does what the Force wants. Again, fuck the genetics “twist”, garbage stuff.
- Kylo, next to… 95% that involved him? TLJ did a great job selling him to me and surprisingly this movie added to that instead of retconning it away. More competent but still stupid and petty from time to time. I’m glad he came back, glad he choose right and glad he was allowed more time on the right side than Anakin. I love redemptions and he was portrayed as wavering the entire trilogy, I don’t even really care that it could’ve done better. I’m happy for him and his family, that’s all. The kiss got a laugh out me but not a malicious one, I was kind of running out of reasonable reactions by then.
I’m just conflicted on how I feel about his death. Back when TFA was released I wanted him to survive to face what Anakin didn’t: justice (the kid-friendly setting prevented a death sentence anyway), atonement and growth from there, I still wish it happened and maintain that a different pacing would’ve allowed it. On the other hand, I’m also kinda okay with him dying. He righted at least a bit of his many wrongs, he saved a person he cared for, that his parents cared for and that could help the galaxy much more than he ever could and he was at peace. It was a good death.
- Kylo’s vision/illusion of Han. A surprise but a very pleasant, well acted one. Would’ve I maybe liked Anakin more, as Ben idolized him so much and for all the wrong reasons and because I love that disaster? Yes. Does Han work much better in the economy of the movie and trilogy story and do he and Ben have a much rawer relationship and history? Absolutely. I am a teeny tiny bit baffled as  for why Luke didn’t also show up, but the actual scene was good enough I forgive it.
- Rey and Kylo bond and connection was one of the saving graces of this mess and I utterly loved it. Both actors worked their asses for for all their scenes and it payed off, oh if it payed off. Their DSII duel was perhaps a tad long but great nonetheless (Republic era Jedi jumps!), the hurt and the sense of absolute loss and grief they both conveyed -and shared!- after Leia’s passing was incredible, Rey regretting the near kill and softly going “I would have stayed, had you renounced the dark side”. She cared, yes, but not to the point of ignoring the horrors (something Anakin never quite understood). The “dyad” stuff was a bit overkill, just call it a force bond, we can see it’s freaking powerful, but the Force Skype and sharing of objects that came with the package, that I loved. Surprise lightsaber, Ren fuckers! :D Bet Anakin and Obi Wan were really jealous, that would’ve come in handy during the war.
- Finn was now fully invested in the cause, at ease, visibly happy to be with his friends, ready to bond and reach out, quick to plan, to act and to adapt to the situation, brave but cautious and calculating. I wish it was given a bit more focus, but I loved he found other young FO defectors. Also fuck yeah, he’s force sensitive and his ability is used, not just thrown in as a useless wink. Jedi Finn in future material, c’mon!
- Poe’s also grown. He was probably going to have more screen time with Leia had Carrie not died but there was nothing to be done for that. I’m not as happy as for previous 3 charas for the backstory retcon I’ll tackle in the negatives.
- Jannah was cool, the addiction of other FO defectors a welcomed one and the scene were she and Finn excitedly went over their “I broke free” moment was adorable. Good bean, I’d read more about her and her company.
- A bit lot annoyed at Bloodline being kinda tossed outta the window but getting Leia with lightsaber was nice. Give me some ancillary material to deal with the clash and I’ll fully forgive it.
- Jedi! MY GIRL AHSOKA MY MAN KANAN! I mean, I sure wish they were in a better movie, but hey, recognition for something more than the OT? No slandering of the Order but all of them collectively kicking Sidious ass once and for all? I’ll gladly take it. Anakin, my dude, I’m sorry your sacrifice was next to nullified but it was good to hear you again ;_;  I didn’t hear Ezra’s voice anywhere so I can still hope he’s alive, well and with the Ascendancy teaching all their Navigators. “I am all the Jedi” remains a terrible line.
And now, oh boi. Here comes the long list of annoying - bad - stinking shit stuff:
- If I wanted to watch a 2 and half long videogame cutscenes I’d have done that in the comfort of my home without spending money for tickets. Go to level x to retrieve related macguffin, move to next level to get next macguffin and so on and so on. I liked close to everything in the DS II sequences, but what would’ve that dagger pointed at if the wreckage had fallen even a little bit differently?
In general, many plot points gave me the feeling they were stolen from the tv series and badly executed, like a mockery (or incompetence?). Case in point: Hux betraying the 1st Order out of personal, spiteful hate? Potentially good! The execution? A poor man’s Rebels Agent Kallus, already over in little more than 5minutes.
- Palpatine himself is a poorly, ridiculously poorly executed Maul resurrection storyline from tcw and rebels.
Because Maul was 1. explained and 2. got a good, long arc that made you forgive the undoubtably contrived ass-pull it took to bring him back while Sidious is just… there. You gotta accept it because the writer said so.
How did he survive? We don’t know and fuck you if you expect an explanation (they really had the absolute galls to have him say the iconic/meme line from Rots and apparently it was supposed to be enough?!) How could he “have all Sith reside inside me” when canon’s clear that Sith do-not-get-to-retain-their-individuality-in-the-Force, do not work well together (lmao) and he as an individual never gave a shit about the Sith except when they could serve his own personal desires? His entire approach to the rule of two and other Sith stuff is “fuck that noise, everything in the galaxy exist to serve me”. He’s fine dying as long as “the Sith rule”? Who IS this character, because he’s not Darth Sidious (as presented in Disney’s own canon, mind). Oh, you wanted explanations? FUCK YOU, screams the movie.
The mess gets somehow salvaged in the end as he comes to his senses and siphon the life out of Rey and Ben to de-rotten/revive himself to rule in person, now *that* was in character. Was he actually lying his ass off the entire time waiting for the moment he could siphon them? Hopefully but who the hell even knows.
In the end it just wasn’t worth bring him back. A holocron, a different Sith, even a hive-mind of old records/tainted wraiths of Sith (perhaps wearing Palps face to buy the old empire aficionados loyalty, idk) would’ve been better than “actually, Anakin suffered nearly his entire life and sacrificed himself for barely more than 25 years of peace and it still wasn’t enough to rid the galaxy of the monster who destroyed his and countless other lives”. But Johnson was the one shitting on beloved characters legacy and accomplishments, uh? Surely at least he’s got company.
Ian was clearly having a blast, so there was… that? And the initial sequence being legit creepy and the Sith storm or whatever the fuck was that. That can stay, it was cool.
- Poe, the latino character, got retconned from former Republic pilot (a backstory established before TFA came out and faithfully respected ever since) into a smuggler and gang member. Classy. What does Lucaslfilm have a story group for if not for stopping stuff like this from happening? Bonus Zorii being used for a “no homo! homo? no homo?” wink wink and for generally being a poor man Solo’s Qi’ra.
- The movie makes you worry for a character death three (3) times in a row only to immediately backpedal on it. The survivors are grieving, the scene is sober… and then suddenly! they’re alive! isn’t it wonderful? let’s insert a comical scene now that we’re at it! Sigh.
- The whole Threepio stuff was a contrived waste of time in a movie already full of more relevant plot treads that could’ve put that screen time to better use.
- Rey’s parents apparently aren’t assholes anymore bc they sold her into slavery to protect her from Sidious, which is… supposed to make it alright, a sacrifice in the name of love? If they had been shown trying to give her to a trusted person and then she was kidnapped that wouldn’t had been their fault, just unfortunate, but the movie shows them leaving their 5yo daughter with her in-all-but-name slaver so??
- Rey Palpatine… Rey. Palpatine. Gesù Cristo benedetto che minchia mi è toccato di vedere. That hurt. That was so hilariously over the top bad I just…I started laughing. On top of the entire thing, thank you so, soo much for validating all those fucking assholes who demanded Rey be connected to a powerful man in the saga to accept her powers and value, you hack. Jedi were never about power of blood and then you went and reinforced the very opposite. She ain’t powerful bc the Force recognized her as worthy to stop evil and chose to aid her anymore, she’s powerful bc grandfather was. Lovely stuff. Hilariously, now she has a lot more legit “Mary Sue” traits than before.
- Rose’s sidelining was a blatant bow to her and her actress haters whims. If in VIII she jumped at the chance of action, now she was fearful and “had to stay behind” studying maps. Fuck that noise.
- Even if she rejected it, underline is that the Skywalker line is wiped out and the Palpatine one thrives. I… just… wtf wtf wtf. A final “Just Rey” would’ve been more powerful -because now it would’ve been reclaimed- and less corny and in poor taste than a Palpatine taking on the Skywalker name. I’m not sure if Sidious is more offended or if he’s laughing his ass off in space!hell. Probably the 2nd. Bad.
- The final scene on Tatooine. It rang so empty because the planet brings warm memories only to the audience, not the characters. In-universe, that place brought nothing but misery to the Skywalkers: Anakin and Shmi were brought there as slaves and lived as such for years, Shmi was tortured to death and Anakin began his descent into the dark for crying out loud. Luke had to hide and saw his relatives murdered. Leia had no connection whatsoever to the place. The mera idea of burying Anakin Skywalker lightsaber into the sands of Tatooine and considering it a way of paying respect is… I don’t know, hilariously in bad taste? Rey, dear, what did you have personally against the guy? Put those sabers to rest on Naboo! Ah, but we can’t truly acknowledge the PT now, can we? Wack.
- It’s not TroS complete fault, that “honor” mostly sit at TFA’s feet but for all its omages, copies and almost slavish references, from a in-universe point of view it’s like the OT barely occurred.
The same evil man has been defeated (until next time?), the Republic must be rebuilt from scratch, a evil military is all over the place and must be dealt with, the Jedi Order has to be rebuilt… it’s depressing. A new evil taking advantage of the empire leftovers would’ve been one thing, but Sidious? He’s been effectively winning nonstop ever since he was elected Chancellor. He had all the power, all the influence, all the control and he maintained it all even as a rotten corpse in exile, the entire galaxy marching on his tune, controlled by his strings. And as the cherry on top of the cake he even managed to wipe out the family that could’ve, should have been his undoing! He effectively destroyed the Skywalkers. He outlived every Jedi, every survivor, every clone. I hate this. It’s sickening. I can’t even be happy Rex was on Endor anymore.
In general, the best word I can find for this movie is: coward.
So blatantly desperate to please, to be “forgiven”, to reference every single irrelevant thing -except the PT and the TV series in a intelligent way-, to throw fanservice after fanservice after fanservice no matter how nonsensical from all over that crossed the “corny” to wander into embarrassing territory many times over (Maz giving Chewie a medal outta nowhere? Come the fuck on now).
The cartoon series had twenty time the guts of this movie and I vehemently wish for Filoni to take the helm of the entire creative team in a very near future.
1. fave/least fave movie:
To no one’s surprise, my favourite Star Wars movie is Revenge of the Sith. It is the perfect culmination of all the things we’ve been building towards since TPM, this final act in the Greek Tragedy, where we see our heroes fall, succumb to evil, to their own flaws, and see the very terrifying reality of how dictatorships rise from democracy. (To thunderous applause.)
It did a much better job at showing just how well Anakin and Obi-Wan knew each other, how well they got along; it showed Sidious being the best as what he does, fooling everybody and winning; the Jedi were shown torn and flawed and conflicted, and also c’mon, the way Mace and his posse rolled up to Palps’ place.... I mean they all died almost right away but that was cool while it lasted; Anakin happy, Anakin terrified, Anakin being a complete and total mess; the Mustafar lightsaber duel. Everyone’s acting was on point, especially Ewan, Hayden and Ian’s. I mean, it was insane.
And it was the perfect tragedy. It breaks your heart every time because you know the potential that was there, but through all these very human and messy things, you know and can even understand how they all ended up where they did.
aaaaauisdfhguisd I could probably write something more meaningful about it but not today
My least fave is The Last Jedi. There were some things it did right, though I think could have been done better, but a lot of the problems I feel it runs into comes from the narrative decision to have it take place literally five seconds after The Force Awakens. By not letting there be some time between the first and second movies, there wasn’t much room to let the characters grow and develop, even if that’s off-screen (not like many people mind that, especially those who enjoy supplementary material that bridges the movies together) or let the plot be stretched out further.
Along with that, the plot itself simply wasn’t moved forward. Sure, plenty of things happened (lots of Stuff happened), but it barely progressed the story along in a way that could more smoothly be built upon in the movie following it. A lot of things just ended up being finished before they even really started, like Snoke.
Granted, all of this is completely subjective and based solely on both my opinions and emotions. The SW fandom is large as hell and everyone feels/sees things differently, and that’s generally a good thing as it can make for some fun discussions.
4. fave/least fave character
Oh wow, I’m sure this is going to be a shocking revelation to everyone reading this, but my favourite character is Anakin Skywalker and here’s why:
[insert really abysmally long gush about all my thoughts and feelings on Anakin Skywalker here]
jhsdkfslkfj Okay, the thing is that I’ve gone on and on and on about all the things I love about him here (and other places throughout the years) before, about the way he’s written and why he’s just a fascinating character to dissect, to watch or read about, etc, so I’ll just leave it at this: he’s the best because I love him. End case.
Least fave is hhhhh one I hesitate putting down because I really don’t want to start anything or come across as bashing someone else’s fave, but it’s Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. There’s a plethora of reasons for it, but honestly I mostly just found his potential (like many things in the ST as a whole, for me) as a character was wasted.
Full disclosure, but he was actually one of the many things I was bummed about in the theatres while watching TFA for the first time. I was really looking forward to an interesting new Sith character (because, let’s be honest, JJ tossed out everything from the PT, and he was meant to be Sith, or Sith-Lite(tm) at any rate) and he just felt underwhelming, until we got to the Han confrontation. Then I was interested again... until TLJ. And then I just lost complete investment in him.
Obviously this is a huge to each their own moment, and this is simply my viewpoint.
8. fave/least fave concept
This is such a cool question, but very vague. I suppose my favourite concept would have to be the Force itself. Not like the existence of some form of energy created from all life, being within and without all of us, is terribly unique (I mean, it’s literally related to there being a God or whatever), but just all the other things that come with it: Force sensitives, Force powers, kyber crystals, Force nexuses, all the different histories and cultures surrounding it, etc. There’s just so many cool things that come from this one very simply concept, and I love it a lot.
I mean!! Where would I even begin to point out cool things related to it?? I couldn’t, because there’s just so much. I don’t even know how to get my thoughts across on it because I have a lot of them. ijustthinkitsneat.jpg
Least fave is uhhhhh..... hm.
That so many of the female characters in SW have to be done so dirty. I don’t like that, writers. Do better.
Shadow Warriors AU. Padme is given a choice, follow her heart or protect the Republic...
And she chooses the Republic.
And in doing so, she saves it.
Note
2,4,9,12,17,18 and 19 for the SW ask :)
2. pairing
Fav -Have a lot but currently romantically it is Han/Leia- I love their chemistry that they have together and the hight difference, they can speak their mind to each other and they care about each other. I have some of the sweetest moments together in the OT, just like when they are hugging or reassuring each other. I also like how their character arc are not completely connect to one another all the time, I never felt that Han became a better man to please Leia and Leia arc was just as much about her commitment to the rebellion than her love for Han. Overall the compliment each other, make a great team and have great soft moments together
Least - relyo 4. character
Fav- Too many ( Finn, Leia, Poe, Han, Obi, Yoda, Mando Luke Poe and just so many) but at the top of my head, I have to go with Ahsoka Tano but she is really just one of many. I love watching her grow into a badass, develop her own mind and style, she had great character reactions with almost everyone bring out interesting ideas. It was a great idea to add her into clone wars as an audience surrogate and further create her into a complete 3 dimensional  character. I have so many favs.
Least - I guess i would say more of a wasted character section, but I would have to go with Hux here. This is more of a wasted potential character but at the start he was really interesting, a character with a sad background but an absolute fascist and unrepentant murder, he could have been a great character and foil for a lot of the heroes but then they made him into a no respect butt of the jokes character who i could not take seriously which was a shame as he is acted well, and he could have been a tarkin like character if tarkin lived passed ANH. On a similar strain Kylo, it goes on my ‘I don’t like this direction’ type of dislike
9. ship
Fav- I kind of love any of the ships that look old and busted but are loved by their owners, and feel insulted whenever someone insults their ships. They are falling apart up but they are beautiful.
Least - The  Supremacy, it feel silly how big it is and this was after they lost star killer base and they tried to make it out it was more danergous and advance than that, when all it did was follow them it what felt like a really slow car cash
12. moment/scene
Fav- A lot from every era of star wars but again picking out a random one. It would be when the Mando goes to rescue Baby Yoda. The build up to the decision, the increasing unease of something bad happen, to the Mando, slowly taking out the stormtroopers until shit hits the wall and he has to fight everyone to the calvary arrives. I just love it and by the end you feel that he deserved that victory
Least - I was not a big fan of the whole Leia Poppins scene, not that Jedi did the same thing to save their lives but Leia was seemed out for too long and was far way from the ship. If they had to take her out of the film for a bit they could have done it is a less silly looking way or not put her in a coma at all
17. hero
Fave- Another top the head one, but Chirrut. I love him, everything, in the time where the rebellion was a mess and Empire was everywhere, he just had so much hope and faith
Least- Can’t really find one as they are mostly decent by default I would say Cody as he does not get as much development as the over main clones and he does shoot obi-wan but I can really blame him for that either
18. villain
Fav- Hard to say, currently Maul, he has had some interesting stories. From just an attack dog apprentice for Palps, when he returned he was shown to be smart and anger which made him into such a wildcard character. His relationship with his brother, is interesting and sad, as well as his moments of insanity in relation to obi-wan. His death scene gives sympathy for a villain without completely redeeming him or him even seeking it out.
Least- Tobias Beckett, it not that he is a bad character, he is a long john silver character but I just think he had the same problems as Solo overall had, i liked it but it felt too small for star wars movie. Maybe it solo was done like the series he would have worked better
19. outfit
Fav - I love the mandalorian armor it just as a nice look, and I like how each one has their own uniqueness to them, like sabine painting hers, or Djarin design. Side note I also love how all the clones had paint jobs on their own armor
Least- I did not like Klyo outfit in TLJ, it kind of felt of a downgrade from the rather cool outfit he worn in TFA, also Holdo dress felt a bit out of place, it felt more prequel design than the current designs
✕ … ray park … darth maul: now arriving in coruscant. he stands alone and is a foxy grandpa TBA according to their chart. past records show that they are known to be resilient and manipulative, so tread with caution since they are still a dark force user from dathomir…
 ✕ …was reconstituted via DNA, therefore he has his legs. For now? Not comfortable erasing his disability but if he’s basically a clone there’s no reason he’d have his legs so.
    ✕ … has his memories up through his death in Rebels. Being “raised" by Palpatine, serving as his apprentice. His “death” on Naboo, the years as a literal garbage monster. EverythingClone Wars, Son of Dathomir, heading up Crimson Dawn. Losing that all and heading to Malachor, everything up to dueling Obi-Wan on Tattooine. His sad history is intact really, rather than give you an inadequate summary you can check out wookiepedia~
    ✕ … hates the Sith as much as he detests the Jedi, if not more so at this point.
    ✕ …  Maul was incapable of letting go of his hate but if he had been able to what an asset he could have been to the ghost crew/rebellion bc of his familiarity with Palpatine and knowing how he thinks and works. but his desire to see the empire fall was out of revenge. He is as much a sith as ahsoka was a jedi but he still had darkness in him and even with obi was that was a /personal/ vendetta that drove him and gave him a sense of purpose and if he had actually succeeded he probably wouldn’t have known what to do with himself but he couldn’t just let go of his hate and anger and have a rebel family with Ezra and the ghost crew bc that’s just not who he is at the end of the day he didn’t really have a prayer. Born in grief. Raised in hate. Helpless to defy his fate~ He cared about his apprentices (Savage, and in his mind, Ezra) but it was def. unhealthy and messed up for obvious reasons. "Nah, I'm gonna blind Kanan and steal his apprentice." Spoilers for those who have yet to watch Rebels. He’s a lonely bitch tho even tho he wouldn’t admit it even to himself, he appreciates companionship to a certain degree.
    ✕ … would have liked nothing more than to topple Paplatine’s empire, save his vengeance against Kenobi. The latter seemed more feasible in his mind and gave him a needed sense of purpose after having lost everything. With the First Order, it’s not Palp’s Empire nor the Sith per se, but they would likely make crime lord activities difficult so...
    ✕ … had he won in his duel against Kenobi, he probably would have tried to find the one he believed he was protecting, The Chosen One. Probably would have tried to find Luke and make him his new apprentice, train him so that they could take on Palpatine and Vader together. Obviously that did not happen.
If this is too many feel free to pick and choose: 3 - Savage, 6 - Finn, 17 - Maul, and 28 - Anakin
@darthbiscuits I’m so sorry for how long it’s taken me to answer this!!!
Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often? (Savage)
On Dathomir, Savage is moving constantly. He trains, first with hisolder brothers and then his peers and the children he raises, so that he andthey will have a chance at surviving the trials. Quite often, he can evenforget the purpose of training and just sink into the joy of sparring withpeople he loves. Also: he spends very little of his time sitting around,anyway, because his days are taken up with hunting trips to make sure thevillage can eat, and the hut repairs he volunteers for, and the rest of histime he plays with Feral and with other children or plays games with hisfriends. If he wasn’t as fit or as good at fighting – and there are brotherswho aren’t, who aren’t just constantly moving without thinking about it – if hewasn’t as good, then he’d get reminded to exercise by the village elders,because those skills are a matter of pride for the village and also what maykeep them alive when the Sisters come and select them for the trials. ButSavage is sporty enough that he doesn’t have to think about that much, and so hedoesn’t.
After Talzin’s ritual, there are few reasons to exercise: The muscles onhis magical body don’t waste with inactivity the way normal muscles do, andhe’s stronger than most people he meets and everybody he fights. When he’soverpowered, it’s not because of physical strength or even reflexes. Which ispretty useful, because with the loss of his village Savage also loses mostopportunities for moving thoughtlessly. There are no more huts to build andbirds to hunt or people to spar with, and the spaceship’s not spacious enoughto even go for a run. He’s jittery for a long while after he leaves and itchingto do SOMETHING, his body misses constantly moving around, but Savage is waytoo depressed and lonely to think too deeply about that. Occasionally he fightssomeone and the itch goes away, but so what? Nothing’s better. He’s stillalone. Feral’s still dead by Savage’s own hand.
He only really gets back into exercising when he meets Maul, becauseMaul trains religiously. Loves it. Will do it whenever possible. And Maul nevereven asks Savage whether it’s necessary or useful (there are limits to how muchSavage can change his new magical body; the muscles can’t waste but they can’tget bulked up either). He also never asks whether Savage WANTS to join in,because he thinks, Savage’s his apprentice now, right? Of course Savage willtrain with him. This is what apprentices DO. Not that he needed to ask, sinceSavage would never decline an opportunity to spend time with his bro, and itgives him something back he never really realized he missed. Out of all theSith apprentice tasks, it’s by far the most enjoyable. Much better thanmeditation. Sitting still is HARD and BORING. (He gets closest to actuallymeditating when Maul gets him into doing weight training.) Savage’s still workingon his debate skills though, because he hasn’t yet managed to convince Maul toplay ball games.
Eating habits and sample daily menu (Finn)
So Finngrew up with VERY standardized food. Ration bars, porridge, other stuff as longas it was nutritionally sound, could be made for ten thousand people at onceand then be wolfed down in fifteen minutes, that’s what the stormtrooper cadetsgot. Basically cafeteria food cranked up by a million. Nothing fancy, ever.Finn didn’t even truly hate it, but then he had nothing to compare it to andlittle time to think about food instead of how to be the perfect stormtrooperand hide they ways he always knew he wasn’t what they were looking for and keep the people he wanted to be friends with alive
TheResistance are also feeding masses of people, obviously, but they’re much morediverse in terms of species and always strapped for cash, so the food varies bywhich ingredients are local or in season or cheap right now and which cook hasplanned it and there are always tens of options, at least. Finn usually doesn’tgo to the mess alone, he goes with his medcenter friends or with the pilots orwith a nice woman he helped with her cleaning shift or the mechanics or some ofhis other new friends, and most days with Poe and/or Rey, too. They get as manydifferent dishes as possible and swap food around (Finn learns quickly what’sedible for which species, he is the Responsible one in most of his friendgroups). When there’s something that no-one likes, they give it to Rey (whichFinn honestly still kinda feels guilty about, no matter how often Rey says,“Hey, are you eating this?”) Mealtimes are fun, and most of the time Finn doeseat in the mess hall, because there’s simply too much to do. The community and the variety of foods are the point of eating, he decides.
He doescook, though! Whenever there’s time. He cooks for Rey and Poe and Rose, mostly,but Poe’s friends also have a regular Come Dine With Me type night (which Iwrote about in this fic here). He is pretty good, although sometimes he has somuch fun with all the different foodstuffs and spices and textures that existout there that his food is a bit inedible, unless you’re Rey. (Poe makes avaliant effort too, he swears that he loves this food because Finn cooked itand he loves Finn, but sometimes you can see the disgust and  tears in his eyes.) Jess Pava gets Finn intobaking shortly after that, she has massive scrapbooks of Pantoran recipes fromwhen she was little and lived with her great-grandparents, and Poe swears heput on ten kg in the year Finn was perfecting his baking skills but it’s allworth it (Finn gets awarded honorary Pantoran citizenship for his fruit cakestbh)
And when Luke Skywalker cooks the first hotpot for Finn he remembers the flavour and feels like he’scoming home.
Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress (Maul)
For a REALLYlong time the only clothes Maul likes are his Sith robes. They’re what he feels safe in – or closest to safe, anyway – and what he’s used to. The only thing that’s left ofthe life he’s used to, really, and for as long as he clings to his identity as ‘Sithapprentice’ he will wear nothing else. Gradually, he starts choosing clothes for ease of movement, though, and that’s basically how he ends up shirtless so often. You don’t have to worry about entangling yourself in your massive cloak if you don’t wear it. Also, the feeling of sunshine on his skin is a surprising luxury.
Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy? (Anakin)
This is one of those times where it would be useful if I didn’t chooseEU stuff to read by asking, “Is this about Vader’s miserable existence? OrFinn? Or Maul? or a cheap learning-to-read book about Savage don’t judge me”I’m pretty sure Anakin’s friendly with some Padawans somewhere in the EU butI’ve never read that, so… The people he’s closest to are: Obi-Wan (whoseapproval he constantly seeks and never really feels like he gets it. Thereisn’t really the equality you’d have with a friendship, since Obi-Wan’s histeacher, and he’s mostly slotted into father-figure in Anakin’s mind tbh),Ahsoka (also not an equal relationship, he loves her and she loves him but theyboth know he’s her teacher and there are ways you can’t confide in someone thatyou’re meant to be an example to), Padmé, R2 and Palpatine. After AOTC I thinkAnakin sees his wife as his closest friend and the one person he can talk toabout everything – even though his hang-ups mean he doesn’t really tell hereverything in ROTS especially. R2’s his buddy, the one friend he spends most ofhis time with and they mostly just ARE next to each other and it’s nice. Heonly really spends time with either of them after he’s 19, though, and beforethat, Anakin’s best (and only) trusted friend was Palps. Which is how Palpsliked it tbh and he was really angry with Padmé for spoiling Anakin’sdependence on him
His worst enemy is always the person who’s currently hurting his family, or rather: the person who’s going to hurt Anakin’s family and Anakin cando nothing to protect them. Watto threatens Shmi, but Anakin remembers the bombs inside his and his mother’s bodies and dreams of the slave rebellion. Dooku starts the Clone Wars and threatens Padmé’sRepublic and forces Obi-wan and Anakin to risk their lives in a war againsthim, but he is far from the frontlines and he beat them when they fought him. Sidious is pulling the strings behind the war, but Anakin doesn’t even know who he is, and when he does – if he kills Sidious he won’t be able to save Padmé, and so he kneels down and hates himself and hates his Master. Then, Anakin strangled his wife and killed her and the child,(he believes, anyway) and he swore himself to Sidious and killed the Jedi younglings. He destroyed everything he loved. And there is nothing he can do now because there’s nothing left, no-one to protect because he killed them, and Master will not let him die, so he dedicates himself to the Empire and hates himself until he can believe that it was necessary and that he is just an instrument, and who’d call a weapon their worst enemy.
