IT TOOK ABOUT TEN MINUTES INTO THE DAY FOR MILA TO REALISE THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT.
It was not a crime or wake up to an empty bed, even if she had spent the night cuddled up against Jake’s chest, since the urge to use the bathroom could strike any time. That was easily forgivable. But the really odd things started happening once she left the comfort of her bed and wandered into the kitchen, where everyone was gathered for the usual morning routine of a group breakfast.
She was surprised, however, to find that the kitchen was absolutely empty, save for a note left on the kitchen top in Jay’s handwriting.
We decided to go to the company for some extra practice but i made some breakfast for you so make sure to get something to eat <3
They left? Mila tore her eyes away from the paper, instead searching the silent dorm. Placing the note back on the bench, she visited the doors of each of the boys’ rooms, knocking on the door. No response. She frowned as she checked her phone, only to find that there were was not a single text sent to her by on of the boyfriends. They must be busy…
Mila shrugged as she sat before the delicious plate of French toast prepared by Jay. She wanted to take a break before her scheduled in the afternoon, but the others were working hard. Kiara had a scheduled solo photoshoot so she was also out of the dorm today, leaving Mila alone in their home. She hummed in delight as she ate a piece of toast, using her free hand to send a text to the group chat.
You: I just woke up hope everyone slept well 🩷
You: and thank you Jay-oppa for the food 😘
Mila shut her phone off. Staring at the fridge across from her, she began to think. Since she was free this morning, she might as well do something nice for her group members. Maybe I should make a cake!
Mila nodded. That was a good idea. And so, she did exactly that— after cleaning up the mess left behind by the others before they went to the company building, she found herself sitting in front of the oven as she watched the chocolate cake inside begin to rise. She looked down at her phone.
It was a few hours since she had sent her initial text, and she still hadn’t received a reply. She didn’t mind if they were busy, but she hoped they weren’t working too hard… The last thing she wanted was for one of them to collapse from exhaustion.
Mila jolted form her thoughts when the timer of the oven went off, signalling that the cake was ready. She smiled she pulled it out of the oven with her mitt, leaving it on the bench for cooling. A quick sniff of the air instantly made her mouth water form the sweet scent. She just knew the others were going to love this.
Opening her cameras, she snapped a quick picture of her creation to send into the group chat.
You: make sure to get lots of rest, okay? i have a cake waiting for you at home ❤️
Maybe that would help raise their spirits, she thought.
Mila was humming happily as she strung on her bag in preparation to go to her next schedule, until she saw a new notification pop up on Weverse. And all of a sudden, she didn’t feel so good anymore. Because she was so sure that her boyfriends were busy, and that was the reason why they hadn’t been responding to her texts all morning—only to see that they had made a new post on Weverse for their fans to see.
It was this moment where she started to wonder if something had happened, if she had done something wrong. Because if they had time to post something on Weverse, surely that meant they had time to respond to her texts, right? Even if it was a single emoji, to let her know that they had seen her messages, she would take it. But….
Mila shook her head. Maybe they just didn’t read all her messages yet—understandable, considering she did send quite a lot of them. She would give it some time and see if they would respond later.
But they didn’t. And it ate away at Mila for the rest of the day, until she had time to call her number one confidant about her—her one and only unnie, Kiara.
“So they haven’t responded to even a single text of yours?” Kiara asked with furrowed eyebrows, a finger on her chin. The two were currently in the TXT dorms, the members of the group watching from the kitchen as Mila and Kiara spoke.  “They’ve been responding to mine, though…”
Mila swallowed the lump in her throat, her eyes stinging. “Oh…” She lowered her head. She felt sick to the stomach, feeling as if she might lose all the lunch she had eaten not long ago. If they were responding to Kiara’s text and not hers, then wouldn’t that mean that they were…. ignoring her? But why? Did she do something wrong? “I must have upset them for some reason, then, right? They wouldn’t ignore me for no reason…”
“Hey, hey, don’t jump to any conclusions.” Soobin slid onto the couch next to Mila offering her a box of tissues and helping her blow her nose. “We don’t know that they’re ignoring you.”
Mila looked at him in doubt. “Unnie literally just confirmed that they were responding to her texts and not mine. How is that no ignoring me?”
“Wait, he might be right,” Huening Kai spoke up. “Have you looked at the date?”
Mila furrowed her eyebrows. She opened her phone to check it, only to frown even further. April the first? It took a few seconds before everything clicked into place. She jumped up from her seat on the couch, the box of tissues falling to the floor. “It’s April Fools Day!” she exclaimed, in a mixture of horror, realisation, and disgust. She brought her hands to her hair. “And I’ve been fooled! Ugh! I can’t believe I almost cried because of a prank!”
Mila face palmed, causing Kiara to shush her. “Hey, don’t say that. It still would feel bad even if it wasn’t a prank. I know I would feel sad if Yeonjunie-oppa ignored me.”
“Which I’ve never done,” Yeonjun suddenly spoke up from the kitchen bench, earning unimpressed looks from both girls. “Just saying…”
Mila sighed. “Congrats, oppa. You’ve won the best boyfriend of the year award.  Mine are no loner in the running.” Yeonjun had a look as if he wasn’t sure whether to be happy or not. But Mila wasn’t looking his way. She narrrowed her eyes at her phone instead, plotting what to do with her newfound information. Since they wanted to prank her so badly, maybe she should let them have their fun…
She huffed as she sent one last text, before muting their chat. If that was what they wanted to do, then fine; she could give them the same courtesy. She turned to the TXT boys. “Do you want cake?”
Tumblr media
“I can’t do this anymore!”
Jaaeyun flopped dramatically against the floor of the practice room, clutching his hand  to his chest after reading the latest text from Mila. Riki shot him an unimpressed look from beside him, raising an eyebrow as he slapped the older’s thigh. “This was your idea, you can’t be the first one to fold.”
The said idea that Riki mentioned was, in fact, a prank that the boys all agreed on, considering it was April the first—also known widely as April Fool’s Day. Jaeyun had been the one to suggest that they all pretend to ignore their girlfriend, at least until they saw each other later one tonight, when she would be back home from her schedules, and they would be finished with theirs. But all it took was the endearing messages from her as she spammed them with pictures of the cake she was baking for them and random little updates during the day, and it felt like torture to continue the charade any longer.
“Just look at her!” Jaeyun said with a groan, as he showed them the selfie Mila took, with her fluffy smile after decorating the cake she was so excited to have them try. “Ugh… I can’t. I have to text back. My heart hurts.”
Heeseung sighed as he stared at the photo, his fingers subconsciously reaching to pinch her cheeks through the phone. Why did he agree to this in the first place? Everyone knew he had the worst case of cuteness aggression and clinical clinginess towards his girlfriend, and he wasn’t even interested in proving otherwise. He should have just turned down the idea the moment it was proposed. And yet…
“Drop out if you want, man,” Sunghoon said, “No one’s stopping you.”
But of course, Jaeyun couldn’t. “Shut up. You’re just saying that because you want to spend more time with her.”
Sunghoon laughed.
They had childishly agreed that whoever could last the longest would have the reserved cuddle sessions of everyone else to themselves for the next three days (they tried bargaining six, but some members—as in Sunghoon and Jungwon—were quick to refuse). It seemed like a great idea at the time, seeing as they were confident they could go at least a few hours with no contact. But they forgot to factor in the fact that they were incredibly down bad, for their equally down bad girlfriend.
“Now she’s saying she misses us,” Sunoo said as he read the most recent text, adding fuel to the flame.  “‘I know you guys are busy, but let me know if you’re okay. I miss you lots, heart emoji, heart emoji.’”
Jake groaned, causing Jay to kick him slightly in the butt as he rolled over. “This is the worst day of my life.” He held up his hand as Sunoo went to read another text. “Don’t. I’m suffering enough as it is.”
Jungwon sighed, massaging his temples while shaking his head. He normally wouldn’t even entertain the idea, despite the so-called ‘prize’; Mila would definitely fold and given him extra cuddles if he acted cute, so he didn’t need to steal from the others. The only reason he agreed was because he had a feeling that Mila might have already planned to prank him anyway, so he might as well make the best of the opportunity to get her back and to get more cuddles in the same day.
He turned to look at the eldest, who was staring at his phone so intently that there may even be a hole drilling through it soon. At least he wasn’t the only one.
Only a few more hours, and they’d be able to put this behind them.
Or so they thought.
It was a few hours later when they arrived at their dorms to find that she was nowhere in sight. And it was then that they realised she was nowhere to be seen. All that was left of her was a note on the fridge saying, I won’t be home tonight, don’t look for me. The only thing that could describe the events that followed the discovery of the ominous note would be the gates of hell breaking loose on the dorms.
“She’s not picking up her phone,” Heeseung said panickedly, after calling her number for the fifth time.
“Or her texts,” Jungwon replied with a frown. Jaeyun and Jongseong turned up hopeless results as well, receiving not even a peep from Mila since the last text she sent, over an hour ago. It didn’t seem like anything was out of the ordinary; it was just a text letting them know that she had finished her schedule. So it only made their word even more that she had suddenly dropped off the grid with no warning other than the hastily written words on the sticky note.
“Wait!” Jongseong suddenly exclaimed. “Her manager just texted. Apparently, she dropped Mila off at the Tubatu dorms earlier on.”
The others heaved sighs of relief. “That scared me,” Sunoo said with a hand on her heart. “For a second I thought she was kidnapped and the perpetrator made her leave a note behind so we didn’t get suspicious.”
There was a moment of silence.
Riki side-eyed his hyung. “I think you just watch too many horror movies.”
Sunoo shrugged, before turning on his feet to go to the bathroom, seeing as the ordeal was sorted. It wasn’t unusual for Mila to visit the TXT dorms, considering her unnie was there a lot of the time, and it could get old being cooped up in the Enhypen dorms every day. They didn’t worry if she was with their seniors; they knew the TXT members would watch over her, if anything were to happen. They were just surprised that she didn’t seem to notice their prank on her.
“I thought she would be spamming our phones,” Riki said absently as he opened the fridge. “She usually catches on fast…”
Especially on April Fool’s Day, of all days. Mila was usually the type to figure out their odd behvaiour and call them out as soon as she noticed. The fact that they didn’t hear anything from her meant she probably was none the wiser. So maybe, they didn’t need to feel so bad about their little prank, after all…
Still, it didn’t make it any less disappointing for some of her boyfriends who wanted to bask in her affection as soon as they got home from a tiring day of practice. Sunghoon pouted as he flopped onto the couch, zoning out into the distance since Mila wasn’t here to occupy the empty space of his thoughts with her little rambles.
“Ugh, I could use some sugar right about now,” Jaeyun said as he opened the microwave. Mila’s final text had been to let them know she put it there for when they got home. But to his surprise, there was nothing there… except another note, which said: “‘I took the cake for the Tubatu-oppas?!””
His voice was utterly mortified as he turned the note, as if expecting a ‘Gotcha!’ to be written on the other side. But no. The cake was indeed gone, and it seemed she really had taken it for the TXT members, even though  she said she explicitly made it for them.
“Naur way,” Jake said in disbelief. Heeseung looked over his shoulder and started to draw lines inside his mind in order to reach a conclusion.
Maybe she did know about their prank after all… He sighed as he called Kiara’s phone. As soon as she answered, he was greeted with what he could already see as an eyeroll on the other side of the phone.
“You finally called,” Kiara said. “Can you pick up your girlfriend? She’s completely insane.” Before Heeseung could ask what she meant, he heard Mila’s voice in the background saying something along the lines of, “No, I don’t wanna go home,” in her obviously drunken voice.
So yes, they might have pushed her a little too far this time…
Tumblr media
Sunghoon and Jongseong weren’t sure what they were expecting to see when they got to the TXT dorms, but Mila crying on the couch while bundled up in a blanket burrito was somewhere near the bottom of the list of possibilities. The two friends shared a glance, which didn’t go unnoticed by Huening Kai, who had been the one to let them into the dorms in the first place. He rubbed the back of his neck while they watched Beomgyu try to entertain Mila like she was some child, only to be smacked on the back of the head by Kiara.
“Your face is only making it worse,” the older female scolded.
Yeonjun (who was standing the furthest away from the scene as possible) noticed the two Enhypen members as soon as they walked into the room and looked at them as if they were his guardian angels sent from above. “Hey, you made it! Come here, come here…” Yeonjun called to Mila over her shoulder. “Your boyfriends are here now! Why don’t you head home?”
Kiara massaged her forehead with a perplexed sigh while Jongseong and Sunghoon were practically dragged by the older male towards their crying girlfriend. Soobin simply laughed, before excusing himself, since he had to leave for a schedule. Sunghoon and Jongseong bowed to the older as he left, the member simply wishing them luck dealing with the drunken Mila.
Mila sniffled as she glared up at them. “What are you doing here?”
Yeah, okay, they probably deserved that.
“Come on, Angel, we came to take you back home.”
Jongseong reached out slowly to take the blanket from Mila’s head, as if she were a puppy about to bite his hand off if he moved too suddenly. But before he could even graze the blanket with his fingers, Mila huffed and inched away, before lying herself down onto the couch so she looked like a caterpillar curling into a ball.
“I don’t want to.”
Sunghoon couldn’t see her face, but he definitely knew she was pouting. He would have usually found it adorable, but it was a little awkward when his noona and three seniors were watching him from the side with a slight sense of judgement for being unable to coax his own girlfriend into returning to their home with them. He cleared his throat, before shaking Mila’s lying figure.
“Come one, you’re going to bother noona and the hyungs,” he ushered gently. But he must have chosen the wrong words, because while Mila was shooting up in her seat—her eyes were watering and she hiccuped.
“Is that why you were ignoring me today?” she asked, her voice shaky. “Because I’m a bother?”
“No, no, no!” Jongseong immediately rushed in to save Sunghoon, who had frozen at the heartbroken look in Mila’s eyes, his chest constricting as if someone had crushed his heart in their palms. “That’s not it at all, Angel.”
Fuck, he thought. He should have never agreed to the prank. He was going to beat Jaeyun’s ass for managing to convince him—and then himself for ever letting himself be convinced in the first place. Jongseong clearly had the same idea, because he was instantly jumping on the first excuse that came to mind in order to save them from being target’s of their girlfriends (well-placed) disappointment.
“It was Jake’s idea!” Jongseong exclaimed. “He wanted to prank you since it’s April Fool’s Day—we tried to warn him, but he really wanted to do it… It was our fault for agreeing, but really, none of us were angry at you. It was just a really bad joke—We’re sorry, angel. Don’t be sad, okay? You can pay us back however you want?”
Mila sniffled. Her tears had been blinked away, but she still had that kicked puppy look on her face that made Sunghoon simultaneously want to wrap her up in a blanket and also run outside so he could scream to the skies. “Really?”
Jongseong and Sunghoon nodded a little too fast. Mila didn’t get to respond before Taehyun was walking into the room, smiling at the new arrivals. “Oh, you guys made it. Are you here to take Mila home?”
“No.” Jongseong almost fell over at the strong denial in Mila’s voice. “Since they ignored me all day, it’s only fair that I get to–” she hiccuped. “--to do the s-same…” She lay back down on the couch. “I’m staying here and I’m never going back.”
Good gracious, why did his girlfriend have to be so stubborn? Jongseong was on the verge of going gray because of today, and this was not helping. He sighed, not knowing what to do. Fortunately for him, Taehyun seemed to have an idea, because he was kneeling beside Mila, a gentle smile on his face.
“Hey, Mimi, want to see a trick?” Mila’s eyes brightened with curiosity as she looked at the TXT member. She nodded enthusiastically. “But if I show you, you have to agree to go back home with Sunghoon and Jongseong. Okay?”
Mila looked conflicted, before sighing and nodding. “Okay.” She then glared at Taehyun. “But it has to be a really good trick!”
Sunghoon and Jongseong exchanged looks as Taehyun nodded and patted Mila’s head gently. They didn’t want to be ungrateful, seeing as he was doing them a favour… But did it have to involve patting their girlfriend’s head? Unfortunately for them, that wasn’t the full extent of the “trick” that Taehyun had planned. Because before they could say anything, his hand had moved from the top of her head, to behind Mila’s ear, lingering there for a bit, before he pulled away to reveal a flower in his previously empty hand.
Mila gasped in wonder at the sight of the flower. “Wah! It’s so pretty!”
“Right?” Taehyung asked. He held it out to the younger female while smiling charmingly, causing alarm bells to ring in Sunghoon’s head. “Then make sure to take care of it properly, okay? At home.”
Mila nodded and reached out to grab the flower from his hand. But before he could, she was suddenly flipped upside down, thrown over Sunghoon’s should like a sack of potatoes—blanket burrito and all. “Okay, thanks, hyung! We’ll be going now.”
“Hey!” Mila kicked her legs around, but struggled since she was still wrapped in the blanket that constricted her movements. She looked at Kiara, who was watching with a flat expression while waving. “Unnie! I’m being kidnapped!”
“Sorry, Mimi, but it’s time you head home home now,” Kiara said with a wave. This prompted the others to do the same, watching with barely concealed amusement when Jongseong rushed to grab Mila’s things, before following Sunghoon out the door.
“My flower!” Mila called in protest, holding onto the door frame to stop Sunghoon from walking out with her.
“You can come back and get it tomorrow,” Taehyun suggested.
“Respectfully, but no!” Jongseong yelled in reply, before prying Mila’s hands away from the door frame. The door shut with a loud bang, and the sounds of Mila’s protests died out in the distance as they got further away.
“How do they have so much energy?” Yeonjun asked in amazement.
Beomgyu snickered. “It’s because they’re not old like you.”
By the time Mila was taken home, her boyfriends were all clamouring to her, explaining their side of the story (which, despite no negotiation, somehow all involved blaming Jaeyun for everything) while she sulked on the couch. It took a while, but in the end, they came to an agreement before Mila fully sobered.
“No more cuddles for you,” she said.
The boys shared looks, but agreed with reluctant sighs.
Well, that was pointless.
"Now can I have my flower?" Mila asked.
Sunghoon and Jongseong were subject to five confused gazes. "Flower?"
Oh boy. The dorm (and the world) wasn't ready for the mess that would come from the Enhypen members learning magic tricks to impress their girlfriend...

Jia sat in front of her vanity, reading the comments on her livestream as they rolled in. She decided since she had time while getting ready for lunch with Bada, she’d do a short livestream. “Hello everyone! It’s been a minute since I’ve done one of these. I’m just hopping on while I get ready.”
She explained to the viewers, applying sunscreen to her fingertips before rubbing it into her face. “To pass the time, why don't we do a Q&A? Ask your questions and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.”
She fanned her face before grabbing her primer. Removing the lid, Jia read aloud the first question she saw:
user124: what are you getting ready for?
She spattered the primer onto her face as she talked. “Just the day, really. So far I’ve only went to the gym, ate breakfast, and answered some emails. But, I am going to lunch with a friend so there's that.” Jia mentioned, keeping a casual expression as she rubbed the primer into her skin.
user243: you're always wearing platformed shoes in most of your posts… how tall are you?
“I didn't even realize that. I'm 171.45 centimeters to be exact, last time I checked.” The girl applied a thin level of foundation and hummed to herself.
user947: what are the next groups you want to work with?
Jia thought about the question, tapping her chin. “That's a tough question… probably txt, nmixx, or ateez. Oh, and seventeen!” She began to contour her face and glance between the phone and her reflection in the mirror.
user328: what's your favorite song at the moment?
Jia began to fill and shape her eyebrows as she thought back to the song she'd played the most for the past few weeks. She cringed a little at the two songs that instantly came to mind, knowing that the viewers might think too deeply about the lyrics.
“Sorrows by Bryson Tiller or All I Want Is You by Miguel.” Almost immediately, she saw the comments come in faster. Holding back an eye roll, Jia began to shut down any ideas that were being sent.
“There isn't a specific reason why these are my favorite songs right now. So don't read too much into it.” Jia added concealer and skimmed through the comments, searching for her next question.
user429: is it true you’re collaborating with bada lee???
Jia laughed a little at the comment as she blended the makeup. “No, that's not true. However, if you guys convince her then maybe there's a chance. I'll have to think about it.” Jia smiled as she received a lot of comments along the lines of ‘challenge accepted’.
She answered multiple questions as she finished up her makeup, adding lip gloss before tossing it into her purse. She stood up and leaned close to the camera, giving a close-lipped smile as she wiggled her fingers under her face.
“Alright, now I have to accessorize, do my hair, and put on perfume, then I should be done!” Jia summed up as she moved to the bathroom. She opened one of the cabinets and took out her brush.
She held her hair into a ponytail and looked down at her outfit. “Ponytail of half up half down, which one should I do?” Jia kept her eyes on the comments as she took out a hair tie and a few bobby pins. The majority of the comments she saw said ponytail, so she went with it.
She added a little details to it by adding a middle part and styling bobby pins on each side of the front. Jia let some stray strands frame her face and she looked down at the phone and put two thumbs up.
Moving back to her room, she sat back in front of her vanity and opened her jewelry box. She tapped her chin before choosing a combination of silver pieces. “Alright, two final questions everyone. Choose wisely.”
user156: when will your next class be?
“Monday at ygx. I'm going to be there basically all day so come up to me if you catch me!” Jia responded while dabbing her signature scent in its regular places.
user805: are you dating anyone?
Jia instantly shook her head with a straight face. “No, I'm not seeing anyone. But, Jackson Wang if you're watching this… call me.” Jia quickly turned the question into a joke, holding a phone hand sign up to her ear and raising her brows before blowing a kiss to the screen.
Almost immediately, she dipped out of the frame and began laughing. The girl tried to return to the screen but read a few comments that only made her laughter grow. She covered her mouth and tried to relax her face.
“Alright… thanks for tuning in! See you guys later!” Jia blew a kiss to the camera and waved goodbye as she ended the live. She wiped a fake tear off her face and fanned her eyes. “I'm the funniest person I know.”
She stood up and looked at her outfit in the mirror. It really represented her maximalist meets minimalist sense of style. Jia picked up her tote and added her essentials before sitting on her bed. Bada texted the details last night, and she already forwarded them to Ryujin.
Jia looked at the time on her phone and sighed, thinking back to why she got ready so early. It was now around 10:40 and the pair agreed to meet at the location by 12. Jia made her way out of her room and contemplated what she wanted to do to waste time.
She walked down the hall and knocked on her sister’s door four times before going inside. Laura didn't bother to look up from her laptop as Jia walked in and lay down on her bed.
Kija hopped down from Laura’s lap and moved to lay against Jia’s side. Jia pet the cat who nuzzled into her side and stared at the ceiling before dramatically sighing. Laura ignored the girl as she typed away at her keyboard, increasing the volume of her music in the background.
Jia glanced at her sister before letting out an even more dramatic sigh. Laura rolled her eyes before swiveling her chair toward the direction of her bed. “What?” Jia immediately sat up with a bright smile painted on her face.
“Oh, nothing. I'm just excited to hang out with Bada today. You know, in person. Outside the dance studio.” Jia said with a sigh, continuing to pet Kija as she looked into the distance.
Laura glared and shook her head. “That was definitely a jab at me and Suyin… Just because we’re long distance doesn’t mean you can attack us like this.” Laura jokingly shook her head and wiped away her fake tears. Jia rolled her eyes and launched the closest stuffed animal at her sister.
Laura ducked out of the way and shook her head disappointingly, tisking at her sister as she spun back toward her laptop. “Next time Suyin visits I'm telling her to beat you up.”
Jia rolled her eyes and crossed her legs before placing Kija on the floor. “My apologies… Anyways, back to my thing. I did some research on the place we’re meeting and it's supposed to have a pretty scenery.”
Laura spun back in Jia’s direction with a smile on her face. “That sounds perfect for your date!” “Not a date…” Jia immediately followed up, earning an eye roll from Laura.
“It basically is. Watch, I bet Ryujin will confirm that it was, in fact, a date after her spying.” Laura confidently declared before leaning back into her chair and kicking her legs up onto the corner of her desk.
Jia sighed and leaned to the side, propping her head on top of her palm. “I feel like if it is, I won't be upset at all. It's just I don't wanna get my hopes up.” Laura peeked at her sister and sighed.
“Understandable. Also, why are you in here right now?” Laura crossed her arms and squinted at her sister. “I wanted to spend some quality time with my little sister!” Jia enthusiastically said, sweetly smiling at her sister’s straight face.
“Bullshit. Let me guess, you started getting ready too early because you were so excited.” Laura plainly worded, clicking the enter key on her laptop. Jia bit her lip in guilt, earning a laugh from Laura.
“You want her so bad.” Laura brought down her legs and completely spun in her sister’s direction. Jia rolled her eyes at the statement and fully sat up. “Yadda, yadda.”
“More like ‘Bada, Bada’ is the only thing on your mind.” Laura joked with a wink and Jia almost instantly cringed. She launched another stuffed animal in the girl’s direction, causing the younger to weave away from said stuffed animal.
“That was so bad, you need to be silenced.” Laura dramatically scoffed at Jia’s claim, holding a hand to her heart while her jaw slacked. “So now you want to silence queer voices? I'm already starting the cancel Jia Mei Yu tag as we speak.” Jia rolled her eyes and stood up from the bed.
“That's why you're not getting any leftover food I might bring back.” Laura gasped and immediately moved to apologize but Jia hushed her actions as she walked out of the room.
Quickly grabbing her bag and phone from her room, she trekked down the stairs and into the living room. Jia lounged on the couch and watched youtube videos while she waited for the appropriate time to leave.
She wanted to get there about fifteen minutes early so she would be able to talk with Ryujin before Bada was supposed to show up. When it reached a reasonable time, Jia stood up and grabbed her things.
Saying her goodbyes to Laura and Kija, she grabbed her keys and walked out the door. Once she made it out of the complex, Jia walked to her regular parking space and got into her car. She shot a text to Ryujin, telling her that she was leaving her apartment.
After she received a response, Jia ignited the engine and embarked on the journey.

After parking, she got out of her car and looked at the time. Bada would be there in approximately ten minutes and Jia started to frantically text Ryujin while walking into the building. Apparently, the lunch spot was located on one of the higher levels.
Once she reached the destination, she couldn't help but notice how pretty it was. It looked to be a mostly outdoor-themed lunch spot and Jia had no idea how she hadn't been there before.
It kind of resembled a really pretty park area, but in the sky where you could see the skyline. There was a sign to first sit at your desired table and then press a button when you're ready to order. Jia found that pretty neat as she maneuvered through the tables.
She found a couple closer to the wall of the cafe and chose to wait at one of them. Jia scrolled through her phone as a text from Ryujin came in, telling her to look up and over to a table near the edge of the seating area.
Her head immediately snapped up and followed Ryujin’s directions. There, she saw her friend waving at her with a smile on her face. Jia smiled back and took a couple of pictures of her before shooting her heart sign, to which Ryujin reciprocated.
Jia anxiously bit her lip and scrolled through tiktoks in hopes of distracting herself enough for her mind to calm down before Bada showed up. She alternated between social media and texting Ryujin when she heard someone approach the table.
“Am I late?” Jia immediately looked up to see a slightly worried Bada reaching the table and she couldn't help the smile that took over her features. She shook her head and stood from her seat, meeting Bada in front of the table.
Due to the couple of inches from the platform sandals she sported, she was about the same height as Bada. She smugly smiled before greeting the girl with a hug. Her affections were immediately reciprocated and the pair hugged for a little before taking seats across from each other.
Jia discreetly looked over to Ryujin’s table where she was fake-reading a book while keeping most of her focus on the two. Jia turned her attention back onto the girl in front of her and held a soft smile.
“This place is so pretty, how did you discover it?” Jia questioned while looking around the sit-down cafe before moving her gaze back onto Bada.
“I found this place a couple of months ago with a few friends,” Bada answered with a smile as she pulled two menus from its holder off to the side. Jia hummed and thanked Bada for the menu when she handed it to her.
She skimmed the menu, secretly peeking at the girl across from her before setting it down. The casual attire that Bada wore looked good, and she smelled even better. Little did Jia know that the said outfit took Bada thirty minutes and five phone calls to put together.
Bada followed suit and pressed a button that summoned the waiter. While waiting for the waiter, the two began making conversation. Jia really enjoyed Bada’s facial expressions while talking, it made her look so passionate about the smallest things.
Jia also acknowledged how adorably dorky Bada was. She was convinced Bada’s little quirks made her like her even more. Once the waiter approached the table and greeted the two, they said their orders.
The pair continued their conversation after the waitress left, going back and forth with questions. “So, when's your birthday?” Bada asked while placing her chin on top of her propped-up palm.
“April 24th… I’m a Taurus.” Jia said, said with a hint of pride. She found her birthdate to be aesthetically satisfying to her mind when she thought about it in numeral form.
“Yours?” Jia rerouted the question back to Bada, subconsciously shifting in her seat to get closer to the girl.
A small smile hinted at Bada’s features before she began speaking. “September 22nd…” Jia’s hand immediately fell on the table. “Wait, you're telling me-” She cut herself off as she flipped her phone over.
Her gaze flickered between Bada and her phone, her shocked face morphed into an expression of realization. “Today is the 16th… its five days away!” Jia exclaimed, attempting to keep her voice lower than a shout.
Bada nodded with an amused smile. She found Jia’s whole reaction a mixture of entertaining and endearing. “This isn't funny, now I have to scour the earth to find a gift good enough for you in less than five days!” Jia half-joked with a huff, leaning back in her seat and crossing her arms.
“Just a ‘happy birthday’ will work,” Bada said while mimicking Jia’s sitting position. Jia instantly shook her head at the girl’s statement, finding it completely foolish.
“Yeah, that's not gonna happen. I'm a great gift-giver so I can't miss an opportunity like this. If anything, this is more for me than for you!” Jia rambled on, crossing her legs as she spoke and tried to reason with the girl.
They had a staring contest and once Jia tilted her head and raised a challenging brow, Bada gave in with a sigh. Jia’s expression changed into a victorious grin as she hummed satisfactorily.
The waiter returned with their orders and the two politely thanked them. Jia took a sip of her beverage before leaning against the table. “So, tell me what you're doing for your birthday.”
Bada thought a little before shrugging. “Nothing much. I'm probably just going to hang out in the studio with my crew, maybe go to a dinner and a movie with some friends.” Jia nodded at Bada’s statement, the soft smile that graced her lips was unable to abandon them.
The conversation flowed through various topics, from favorite shows to funny childhood stories. Jia took many opportunities to discreetly try and find out bits and pieces of Bada’s potential sexuality standing.
Most of the questions she asked were pretty obvious to Jia, but Bada really had no clue what she meant by them. At some point, Jia asked Bada if she had ever watched ‘The L Word’ and Bada couldn't have been any more confused.
Jia was in the middle of telling a story about her and Laura in middle school when she mentioned someone she had never really revealed existed to the public. “Wait, you have a brother?” Bada asked, the surprise evident in her tone.
“Oh, yeah. He's the youngest and is still in school. A real pain in the ass, but I guess he's alright.” Jia answered before sipping her beverage. Bada hummed in fascination, pleased to find out something new about Jia’s life.
While Bada was telling a story about something funny that happened earlier this year with her friends, Jia couldn't stop staring at the breadcrumb on the corner of the girl’s lips.
She contemplated whether she should tell the girl about it or not. Jia didn't want to cut off the girl’s cute ramblings so she opted for the second thing that came to mind. She slowly moved her hand toward the girl’s cheek and held it while wiping off the crumb at the corner of Bada’s lips.
As soon as Jia’s hand made contact with Bada’s face, Bada’s actions paused and her voice died in her throat. A light blush came over her features once Jia’s soft thumb made contact with the corner of her lips. After a few swipes, the warm feeling of Jia’s hand disappeared from Bada’s face, causing the girl to internally frown at the lack of warmth.
Jia’s eyes held a look of genuine innocence and cluelessness at the feelings she caused to arise in the girl across from her. She signaled for Bada to continue speaking and took a bite of her own food.
For a little while, Bada’s sentences held a slight stutter as she kept anxiously fixing her bangs from time to time. Jia intently paid attention to Bada’s words, not minding the stutter at all.
Bada passed the conversation onto Jia, relaxing a bit once the the girl started rambling about a subject she was interested in. After many conversations and laughs, the two girls had finished their lunches.
Both of them learned more about each other and it grew their connection, as well as their feelings for one another. Once the bill came, Jia instantly took it. Bada protested, saying that since she was the one to invite her, she should pay.
But Jia wouldn't back down. “You bought me a snack yesterday, so I buy you lunch today. Also, weren't you the one that said ‘friends buy friends things’?” Jia confidently recited, a slight smirk resting across her face as she took her wallet from her bag.
Bada sighed and jokingly rolled her eyes with a grin on her face. “Using my words against me, I see. Fine, but next time… I'm paying.” Bada waved a finger at the girl and Jia waved it off as she placed her card inside the bill holder and signed her signature before handing it back over to the waiter.
Jia sweetly smiled at Bada’s fake frown. “Thank you for letting me pay, I could see how much it pained you to do so.” She dramatically thanked the girl with both hands on her heart, causing Bada’s facade to crack and a laugh to escape.
“It really did hurt me watching you pay. My heart clenched in agony.” Bada mimicked Jia’s dramatics while deepening her playful frown. The waitress returned Jia’s card and wished the two a good day before attending to the next table.
The two girls simultaneously stood up with a sigh. “This was really fun, we have to do it again sometime soon.” Bada voiced with a charming smile. “I was just about to say the same thing.” Jia agreed with a matching smile and a head nod.
Bada and Jia slowly made their way down to the lower levels of the building, carrying out their conversation for as long as they could. The two frequently brushed arms in the process, but neither of them addressed it.
Jia thought that their paths would divide once they stepped out onto the concrete, but Bada offered to walk Jia to her car. Of course, the girl accepted the offer. The pair continued their conversation as they slowly strode to Jia’s car.
Both girls didn't want to end the conversation, but Jia knew if she didn't Bada would be late for the meeting she mentioned earlier. Jia hugged the girl goodbye, staying in each other’s hold for just a moment longer than what seemed customary.
Jia watched Bada walk in the other direction before getting into her own car. Instead of igniting the engine, she sat behind the wheel and reflected on the past hour she spent with Bada. She couldn't help the giddy smile that graced her features as she excitedly tapped against her wheel.
Her soul almost left her body when knocks were heard against her window. Jia’s eyes widened as a hand fell on her chest before she slowly turned toward the culprit.
A breath was released once she realized the guilty party was Ryujin. The girl laughed at her friend’s change of expression before signaling her to lower her window. Jia followed her friend’s signal as she caught her breath and steadied her heart.
“If I died just now, just know you would be the one responsible,” Jia uttered with narrowed eyes, causing Ryujin’s smile to grow. “Well, good thing you didn't because you wouldn't hear what I'm about to say.”
Jia’s expression changed as she turned her body toward the girl leaning on her car window. “First of all, that place was great. Ten out of ten food, I'll probably go again with-” “Okay, okay, I get it. The food was amazing, now tell me what I want to know.” Jia cut the girl off with a hopeful glint in her eyes.
“That, my friend, was definitely a date. I don't even know where to begin on how much of a date that was. It was so cute, you two are perfect.” Ryujin continued to gush at the memory of observing the date.
A bright grin, with a hint of shyness, grew on Jia’s face as she covered her mouth at what Ryujin revealed. “You're positive?” “Baby, why would I lie about this?” Ryujin rhetorically questioned, a smile still present on her features.
“No, you actually might be right. Thank you for your service, agent baby girl.” Jia jokingly drew out with a salute, although there was still some doubt in her head.
“Anytime, except for the rest of the day. I can't believe I had to play spy on my day off…” Ryujin voiced with slight disbelief, shaking her head before saying goodbye to Jia.
The girl laughed at her friend’s claim and watched her walk away from the window. She rolled it back up and laid her head against the seat. A satisfied him drew out of her matching smile before she decided to start her car.

txt version ☆ folklore version ☆ masterlist
y'all i'm having so much fun doing these w my cat in my lap and the rain pouring outside 🤧 so good. anyways i'm literally seeing sabrina in 2 weeks! i'm so excited <3 maybe i'll post the txt version after the concert 😊
heeseung as tornado warnings
"i guess maybe that's why i'm lying to my therapist, i keep saying things like 'i never saw him & we never kissed'"
clinging to a relationship or situationship with heeseung despite the red flags is something i feel in my bones. i'd do that.
&& that's essentially what the song is about...lying to your therapist because you know hee is a walking red flag & isn't good for you, yet you're doing it anyways (come on y'all,, self-respect!!)
but admittedly, i even do that for people who aren't heeseung, so for him, i could overlook quite a bit.
my point is...heeseung would make moving on hard by existing
also...don't lie to your therapist. it's a waste of money.
sunghoon as how many things
"i wonder how many things you wanna do, you think i'm in-between"
i can see sunghoon getting over you faster than you do him. or at least him being able to hide it better.
&& yeah he might care about you...but he is not thinking about you nearly as much as you are him (even when you're trying your absolute hardest to limit it)
the feeling is even worse if you're still technically dating which would literally be the worst because it's a slowburn break-up who wants that?!
&& it sucks, the feeling sucks & my point is that sunghoon would probably make you feel it 🙂💔
this song makes me SICK sometimes because it's painfully relatable & this connection makes it kinda better?? or worse?? proably worse. 🤧
jungwon as nonsense
"lookin' at you got me thinkin' nonsense, cartwheels in my stomach when you walk in"
before you jump me...yes, i considered jake. i thought he fit bad for business better though 👊 so jungwon got nonsense 🫶🏽
&& i will stand by my decision!! because i just know he's the type of guy who (while very approachable) would be so hard to talk to if you had a crush on him
it's such a cute song & i can vividly picture tripping over my words in front of him & having zero personality because i can't think straight
if any of y'all get a shot with him...good luck soldier 🫡
ni-ki as fast times
"these are fast times & fast nights, yeah, no time for rewrites, we couldn't help it"
this song is about a youthful & impulsive relationship,, so ni-ki was the obvious fit
i can imagine ni-ki & his partner making really bad decisions while dating, at least at the very beginning
like he'd probably convince you to climb on a private rooftop or crash an engagement party with him
&& the relationship might just go way faster than intended
sometimes they're really shitty decisions, but sometimes they're not which is what matters!! sort of??
jake as bad for business
"he's good for my heart, but he's bad for business, tears me apart when he grants my wishes"
if people hated you for dating jake...you probably wouldn't care lmfaooo you're the one cuddling with him 🫶🏽
now, if you were both idols (let's put on our imagination caps 🧢) & it was affecting your job like in the song -- that sucks, & he'd try his best to make sure it doesn't hurt you, but...there's not much to be done sometimes
you're strong though you got through it :)
"never been so glad to be so tired" yeah. that checks out.
it's just such a cute song & it almost always reminds me of him now hehe
jay as opposite
"i know now, that even if i try to change, that somehow, you'd end up with her anyway"
this song makes me sick because it's so relatable (part 2)
the whole idea that ur partner isn't actually attracted to you while you're dating is so scary
clearly, there's no proof of that being the case in this song...but it's the conclusion she jumped to when they dated someone who looked nothing like her right after
i think jay might do that. probably unintentionally, but still.
if the relationship went sour, he might want change & go for someone different, whether in personality or in looks
&& it would feel so shitty, but you'd make it out & do the same thing eventually :D
sunoo as feather
"i feel so much lighter like a feather with you out my life"
to whoever is reading this...sorry. you're the problem he's the one who feels lighter after dropping YOU 🤷‍♀
okay but for real...sunoo would take a hot minute to calibrate & get over you but after that period he is DONE
he's gonna be civil with you but he's cackling with his buddies afterwards. he's FINE.
i hope you are too ;)

flowers of every color | writer's behind the scenes!
some stuff about my writing process for the fic! be warned that if you haven't caught up yet, there are spoilers
tagging people who liked and/or replied my interest check post: @agustdiv1ne @mazeinthemoon @txtistheloml @kyaneosprincess @teletubbiesssss @banggyu0308
these are pretty long so i'm putting them behind a read-more hehe
story planning:
while we've gotten plenty of yeonjun in prince outfits over the years, the main inspiration for this fic is yeonjun's opening outfit in act: sweet mirage! i saw that and was like "oh man he would be SO DASHING as a prince 😍" and just went from there
if you've been here from the start, you might know that i didn't originally plan make a series! i just word-vomited the first chapter (well, what became the first chapter) directly into tumblr's post editor because the thought of prince!yeonjun wouldn't leave me alone, especially after seeing a few other prince/commoner and prince/servant fics floating around lol. chapter 1 is also the only chapter made using tumblr's legacy editor rather than their new one (which is also why the cover pics are one big edited photo and not 3 separate photos, i couldn't figure out how to get 3 photos to line up in the legacy editor).
i honestly did not expect people to read chapter 1 but they did!! and they liked the idea!! plus even after writing chapter 1 i STILL couldn't get the idea out of my head so i decided to write it as a full story. i've written plenty of oneshots before under my (non-kpop) ao3 account, but this is my first multichapter series! so i opened google docs and made a quick outline of the story's main events.
the original outline for foec had 6 chapters + 2 endings, but as i wrote the story, i realized that more detail and scenes were needed than what i initially outlined! chapters 3 and 4 (ball preparations + the ball / gazebo dance scene) were supposed to be one chapter. chapters 5 and 6 (y/n hanging out with the chois + getting caught + punishment + intro of arranged marriage) were also supposed to be one chapter. chapters 7-9 (end of friendship, reconciling with soogyu, y/n & beomgyu talk) were also supposed to be one chapter!
i actually started writing the bad ending first before the good ending -- my reasoning was that if i were the reader, i would want to save the good ending for last so that i could end the series on a positive note. i was very surprised when people voted for the good ending first in the poll LMAO also as far as i'm concerned, both endings are canon in a "branching timeline" kind of way. they are both the real ending! i do have a soft spot for the good ending but also i love angst too much to not write a bad ending haha.
honestly most of the story beats from my original outline made it into the final fic! the biggest change has to do with queen hwayoung's and princess ajin's roles in the story (more on that below).
character notes:
when i was first brainstorming i really wanted to include both taehyun and hueningkai in the story as well, but i struggle with writing ensemble casts and choi line + y/n (+ the supporting characters in the castle) were already enough for me to handle. soobin and beomgyu were the easiest for me to incorporate into the story since they have the same last name and i could go "oh in this universe they're part of the same royal house hence the same last name" HAHA. i do imagine that the house of choi princes are also friends with tyunning (kai does get alluded to in chapter 9), but they're off doing their own adventures.
some of little moments in the fic were inspired by actual things txt have done in variety shows! yeonjun, y/n, soobin, and beomgyu playing cards in chapter 5 is based off to do ep. 53 where they also play cards. soogyu playing badminton in chapter 8 is inspired by gbgb era idol human theater where they played a little badminton by the pool. and there are a lot more small character quirks that are inspired by gifs or fancams i've seen of them haha.
queen hwayoung and princess ajin were originally not supposed to be part of the story! my original idea was the have the arranged marriage subplot be heard secondhand by through advisers so that it feels like an invisible force pulling yeonjun away from y/n. but i needed to make the threat of the arranged marriage stronger and ended up writing the scene with queen hwayoung in it for chapter 6.
princess ajin especially was a late addition -- originally she was never supposed to appear at all, never visiting the castle and only speaking through her mom / royal advisors, so there was that threat of yeonjun being married off to someone he's never even met. but after looking through the feedback of chapter 6 i realized that i kinda-sorta accidentally made setup for her oops. people were wondering what she'd be like, and it would feel too anticlimactic to never have her appear in the story, so i wrote her in. which i don't regret because i did enjoy writing her big scene in chapter 10!
speaking of which: a friend of mine asked what happens to princess ajin, and honestly i wanted to give her proper closure too! but i couldn't find a way to fit it into the story in a way that felt natural. if you ask me though, she gains some level of political independence from her mom (represented by her visiting the castle in the good ending). she still marries for political reasons, to a prince or nobleman who is also in it for the politics, and at first they treat their marriage as a business partnership. eventually they grow close and form a devoted "i'd do anything for you" bond -- not necessarily romantic in nature, but caring in its own way. (i'm describing a queerplatonic relationship basically)
tbh i don't have the energy to write another multichapter right now, but i would love to see spinoff fics for soobin and beomgyu or even taehyun and kai as princes in their own kingdoms! so if you're reading this and you want to do it, you have my blessing <3
flower notes:
while some chapter titles were planned around a specific flower representing the events & progression of the story, others were not (because of the chapter splits i talked about earlier) and i just chose whatever flower was in it lol. the planned chapter title flowers are: yellow roses (ch2), pink roses (ch4), sunflowers (ch5), striped carnations (ch7) , purple hyacinths (ch9), red roses (ch10), daffodils (GE), and white lilies (BE). the unplanned title flowers are: irises (ch1), lilies of the valley (ch3), red and purple zinnias (ch6), sweet peas (ch8).
i mostly used this website as a reference for the language of flowers, BUT i also double check with one or two other websites to make sure i'm getting an established flower meaning and not something made up! when i started fic planning i made a list of flowers with meanings that fit the main story beats and character progressions, then picked the ones with the most established meanings (i.e. supported by multiple "language of flowers" websites) and/or the ones that were appropriate for the growing season.
even though i wrote a disclaimer not to pay attention to botanical accuracy re: seasonal flowering times, i originally envisioned the fic to take place over the spring. then when it got longer, i imagined it taking place over spring and summer, so i tried (keyword: tried) to choose seasonally appropriate flowers or flowers that bloom year-round. this is hard for me because i live in a tropical country. i have never seen a lot of these flowers in person because they don't grow in the climate here, and i have no idea what a four-season year feels like. so i decided not to put time-of-year markers in the fic and leave the season ambiguous, and added that disclaimer about the flowers' accuracy.
an example of this: chapter 9 is named after purple hyacinths. i first decided on this back when the story was only supposed to take place during the spring, since hyacinths are a spring flower. i considered naming it after hydrangeas because they mean something like "thank you for understanding" (i.e. y/n going "thank you for understanding what a hard position i'm in" to yeonjun), and also because they're one of my favorite flowers. but i wasn't sure about their seasonal appropriateness since some sources said that they bloom during early summer so i changed it to hyacinths. BUT THEN the fic got long and i started imagining that the later chapters take place in the summer SO the hyacinths ended up being seasonally inappropriate after all! and hydrangeas would have been more appropriate! especially since txt literally has a song called hydrangea love out aarghhh noooo but anyway it is what it is
other flowers that didn't make the cut + their meanings: sweet william (gallantry), alstroemeria (friendship or devotion), freesia (friendship, thoughtfulness), white tulips (forgiveness, consideration, respect), thyme (courage, strength)
other notes:
the key lime pie in chapter 6 is based on a real pie that i ate at my friend's house when i visited her there and i thought it was the most delicious thing i have ever eaten. in the original draft it was a lemon tart!
i wanted to keep this series strictly sfw, but i did consider making both the good and bad endings have suggestive, fade-to-black scenes. for the good ending, the suggestive part would have involved y/n in yeonjun's room the night after their speech / before waking up together. for the bad ending, it would have happened when yeonjun visits y/n's quarters. i didn't write them bc i... am not good with anything suggestive or nsfw klsadjfklasjd
I COMPLETELY FORGOT BUT Y/N'S FATHER WAS ALSO IN THE AUDIENCE FOR THEIR SPEECH IN THE GOOD ENDING... i have no excuse for not writing him in other than I Forgot. i am so sorry but please imagine he was there
--
that's all i can think of for now! if you have other questions about foec or my writing process please please feel free to reply to this post or send an ask <3

okay now I'm really curious about how different the plot was before you saw that post🧐 if it's okay for you to share
ofc i'll share it!! i feel like this idea most definitely won't be revisited any time soon but... you never know ? 😭 (i fully accepted that this idea won't get done.)
shoutout to mayu bc i kept bugging her w this idea and teasing it only for it to not exist ever…! i do this a lot i’m afraid. how do you put up with me.
(the original plot is under the cut 😁)
i came up with the idea after the concept pictures for melancholy dropped; my first draft was created oct. 2nd, and here's what I wrote in the doc:
but here’s my idea…. txt as a pack of hybrid wolves who the village knows to stay away from.. except the mc, way too innocent and sweet for her own good— she helps a member while they’re wounded and nurses them back to health… a little after she noticed gifts n stuff, they protect her etc etc
soobin's character in ltts was originally jake from enhypen; everyone except txt was human, and jake was the mc's suitor 😭😭 literally everything i wrote from the opening scene was originally jake, and beomgyu from the little “help” scene was originally hueningkai ! (screenshots below are me brainstorming akdjskf)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i've been wanting to write an ot5 au for foreverrr, and this was me finally deciding fuck it! uuuuntil i completely burned out and had to step away from all my wips ! >v< and then ofc i saw that one post and decided ykw... i don't have much motivation for this fic, it'll take too long to write, but might as well take what i already have and put it to use! and yeah, now its the LTTS we know today.

____________________________________
"Tch."
The dissatisfied noise leaving your lips had become habit by now. Just his presence annoyed you, but the fact that he had the nerve to show up late to class almost every time, carrying that stupid skateboard, made your blood boil a little bit. He never studied, never did the assignments, always showed up late and he was still somehow passing this class. This class that you had worked so hard to get into and had to keep working so hard to stay in. It didn't come naturally to you but it did to him and it made you green with envy.
"Ah, Beomgyu-ssi, how kind of you to join us," your professor quipped sarcastically as Beomgyu beamed a smile that was frustratingly charming and headed for the only empty space in the auditorium which, to your displeasure, happened to be next to you.
You didn't acknowledge each other as you continued scribbling furiously into your notebook while Beomgyu sat with his chin leaned on his hand. You noticed that he hadn't taken out anything to write with.
"Now I will hand out your assignments for the next lecture. Remember we have study week, so you will have one week to complete these. Please remain in your seats as you are now."
Your professor proceeded to hand out stacks of papers and you couldn't help noticing that he was handing only one stack for every two students. He was making his way down your row and dropped off an assignment right between you and Beomgyu.
"I can hold it for us," Beomgyu smiled pleasantly as he looked over to you, seemingly unaffected by your sour expression. As the two of you read the instructions for the music production assignment, Beomgyu would stop and mutter to himself every once in a while: "Hmm, I already have a bass guitar for this," "This would be very easy to add a snare to," "I just need vocals and someone to match the drum line to this".
"Alright, everyone ready?" The auditorium hummed with mumbled "yes"es.
"Good," your professor continued, "you will be doing the assignment in pairs, in the order that I've handed the assignments out to you".
You groaned inwardly, noticing yours and Beomgyu's names at the bottom right corner of the cover page.
"Class dismissed!"
You were unsure what to do. You'd have to spend quite a lot of time with Beomgyu to finish this but you didn't have his number and you didn't even know which dorm he was in. Before you could open your mouth to ask Beomgyu when you should meet up, he was getting up and slinging his backpack over his shoulder.
"See you later, Y/N," his voice laced with his regional dialect reached you as an afterthought.
"Tch. Fuck you too, Choi," you muttered.
___________________
It had been four days since you last saw Beomgyu and you were getting nervous. You had started the assignment early and done as much as you could do. You hated to admit it but you really did need him for this. You had worked out a base melody but it was too bare and uninteresting and you knew from hearing him talk to himself that he knew a lot of elements which could add flare and points to the assignment. You hunched over your laptop, browsing the music library. Begrudgingly, at 10 p.m. on a Tuesday, you decided to email him through the university central email list.
### 22:01 ###  Hi Beomgyu, it's Y/N, your partner for the music production assignment. I've thrown some things together but we need to meet to do the rest. I realised I didn't have your number or your dorm address, let me know when we can meet up. ###
You waited for a while after pressing send, just in case he was on his emails right now. At midnight you gave up and went to sleep.
### 03:44 ### Hi! Sorry about that! Can you bring what you have over to mine at about noon tomorrow? Here's the postcode ###
You woke up to the reply from Beomgyu and nearly panicked that you would be late. He didn't live close by at all, the post code seemed to be for a swanky area of newly built apartments downtown, miles away from your suburban campus.
You showered and dressed as quickly as possible. You weren't dressing up for anyone. Jeans, sneakers and a flannel shirt was all Beomgyu was getting from you. You grabbed your laptop and equipment and headed out the door.
________________
At 11:55, you knocked on Beomgyu's door. He lived on the 13th floor and on the elevator up to his apartment you hoped to whoever would listen that this wouldn't turn out to be as unlucky as the out-of-order sign on the second elevator.
The front door clicked and opened to reveal a somewhat sleepy Beomgyu, dressed in a tshirt and pyjama bottoms.
"Oh, Y/N, you're early," he said, then looked at his watch. You found this ironic, considering he never showed up to class on time.
"Well, not by much. Can I come in?"
"Sure," he said, opening the front door widely for you to walk in past him. "I'll make coffee," he yawned.
As you walked past him you couldn't help but note in your head that he smelled really good. You weren't sure if it was his cologne or laundry but it was the kind that settled pleasantly in your chest and made you want to breathe in deeper. You stopped that train of thought harshly as soon as you felt your mind drift that way. You were perfectly happy with feeling generally mildly annoyed with Beomgyu. It was your comfort zone, even if having to work with him was pushing it.
"So how come you don't live on camp-- Wow..."
Your jaw dropped as you walked into the apartment. It was nothing like the cramped dorm rooms you and your friends shared on campus. It was bright, spacious and well-decorated, with huge windows and a view that rivaled the best hotels in the business district.
"How the fuck are you affording this," the words tumbled out of you with little grace before you could stop them.
"Well, since you ask, I work a lot of side jobs," Beomgyu said nonchalantly as he poured water into the kettle in the open-plan kitchen.
"Really? What do you do?"
"Uhm...," he scratched his neck sheepishly, "at the moment I model."
"You? You model?"
"Yeah, why," he tilted his head at you, looking at you quizzically.
Those big brown eyes, the soft curves of his lips, his chiseled jawline... And his hair looked really soft too. Suddenly from thinking nothing of him you were imagining him as a model. You wondered what he modeled for. Could it be fashion brands? Lifestyle? Prints? Maybe even swimsuits? He always wore those baggy jeans and t-shirts, but maybe...
"Y/N?"
"Oh," you snapped back to him, realising you hadn't answered him. "Yeah I just... didn't know, that's all."
"Uhm, cool. Why don't you drop your stuff off in the room down the hall, the one on the left?"
You nodded and picked up your laptop bag and equipment, your feet sinking into the plush carpet as you padded down the hall. You nudged open the door to the room he'd pointed you to, jaw dropping again for the second time today as you walked in.
The room was a small makeshift studio, with mics, a sound control board and several guitars. Several notepads were strewn about along with a few used coffee mugs and muffin wrappers. It seemed to be the most lived-in space of Beomgyu's house so far and you were suddenly starting to understand why he never seemed to pay much attention to the classes. You dropped your bags off in the corner and sat down at his computer, looking at the various pieces of equipment connected to it.
"How do you like your coffee?"
You nearly jumped out of your skin when you heard Beomgyu's pleasant voice reverberate in the room. You hadn't heard him come in after you. Covering up your startled reaction, you mumbled your preference and he returned shortly with two steaming mugs, setting them down on his desk.
"Um, so... For this assignment I've tried layering the melodies but it's very bare. I thought we could use it as a starting point and build on it," you said, trying to sound more businesslike.
"That's good, thanks. I actually don't have a lot of time so a head start would be good. I have an hour now but then I need to head out."
Your brow furrowed. An hour? It had taken you three days to put together what you had so far.
"Let's see what you've got," Beomgyu reached for the USB stick in your hands and plugged it into his computer. He downloaded the files and ran them.
An unobtrusive melody filled the small studio. He listened politely, head tilted to one side until it faded out.
"Um... Yeah, I don't play guitar so I wasn't sure what would sound good with that," you started, hands playing with the edges of your shirt nervously. You hated feeling incompetent, especially in front of Beomgyu.
"Yeah, no offence, but it does need a lot more than that," he said. "Let's see what I can do with that."
You sat in your chair and watched him plug one of his guitars into the amp behind you. He tuned it according to the scales in your melody and started to play along.
"Nana naaa," he hummed along quietly. "I don't know about that bar, what do you think," he asked you.
"It's not bad but I think it can go for longer," you replied. Beomgyu nodded, stopping the recording and starting again.
You watched him get lost in his own world as the notes coming from his guitar breathed life into your melody. You watched his fingers strum and pluck, watched his lips open and close in concentration, occasionally the lower one being worried by his teeth. You watched his long hair fall into his face. You simply watched Beomgyu in his zone, not noticing when he stopped playing.
"Y/N?"
Your eyes focused and met his deep brown ones, your lips tensing as you tried to seem attentive.
"Yeah? Yeah, that was good, let's add that in," you spoke quickly.
"Cool," Beomgyu then stood up and reached behind you to switch off the amp. You couldn't stop yourself from breathing in again when his chest and neck nearly brushed across your face. His warm hand dropped to your shoulder, giving you a casual pat.
"Why don't you sit at the computer and keep replaying the recoding while I write down the chords," he suggested.
"Okay, sure," you stood up in the cramped space and there was barely room for you two to switch places. Beomgyu's hands instinctively came up to your waist to steady you as he brushed past you. Your breath hitched but you said nothing as you sat down at his desk and started the recording.
Your combined melody filled the small room and you found yourself nodding along. You hated to admit it but you liked it much more with Beomgyu's additions. You played it several times while he wrote down the chords.
"Right, awesome," he drawled in his dialect after he was finished. "I have to get dressed and head out now, but if you want we can meet up again later today. I won't be done until quite late but I sleep late anyway."
"How late are we talking," you asked suspiciously.
"I would be done about 11, we could meet back here," Beomgyu offered.
You hesitated for a second. It was a lot later than what you considered acceptable but at the same time you didn't trust Beomgyu. You weren't sure you would get any more time out of him than this.
"Okay, deal. Message me when you're done and I'll head over."
"Cool, here's my number," Beomgyu grabbed your phone to type his own number in and called himself. "You okay to let yourself out?"
He left the studio and went into the room across, which you guessed was probably his bedroom. You copied the new files onto your USB before you packed up your things and left the studio as well. On the way you saw that Beomgyu's bedroom door was ajar. You saw him standing with his back to the door as he was pulling his t-shirt over his head. Your lips tensed into a line as you tried to not to make any noise and not even to breathe.
"Yeah, I'm good."
"See you later, Y/N."
You stood frozen in place as your eyes traced the lines of his back muscles to his pretty shoulders, not missing his toned arms flexing as he reached up to push the t-shirt over his head. Your gaze trailed back down his body to his hips where his bottoms were slung low, exposing the two cute dimples at his lower back. He didn't look like he was wearing anything underneath.
Beomgyu dropped his shirt to the floor and you suddenly darted down the corridor, panicked that he would turn around and see you. His bottoms dropped down just as he heard his front door open and shut.

✧・゚:*Fave Groups Tag!✧・゚:*
I thought it would be cool to make a tag in which we all share something unique that connects us to our favourite group(s) that we don't (or not yet) have with another/other groups. Idk how to explain it but I promise it will make more sense after reading my examples. :')
Okay so, I decided to use Ateez, Enhypen, Stray Kids, The Boyz and TXT for this tag.
Ateez: A unique thing that connects me with Ateez is that I've been to a concert of theirs before. It was my first (and so far only) Kpop concert I've ever been to, and I've also had VIP tickets, so I could meet them during the Hi-Touch event. It's just so crazy to look back on it and realize I've actually experienced that and I actually go to meet the members. It still feels unreal, especially when I watch them through the screen nowadays and see how far they've come and how much they've grown. It was truly unforgettable and I still have a really cute memory with San and an intense one with Wooyoung lmaooo!! :') 💗
Enhypen: They're not the only group that I knew of before they debuted (I also knew about TXT and Stray Kids predebut, I can't remember for Ateez but I know that it wasn't the case for The Boyz, I only found out about them when "Boy" dropped) but what's unique with Enha is, that I've "created content" for them predebut and I've never ever done that for another group before. It was back in October(?) of last year, that I got an ask on @dreamyaqua to do a chart analysis for Heeseung and I was like "oh, I actually don't follow Enhypen and I haven't watched I-Land" but decided to give it a shot anyway. I thought it would be interesting to see if my astrology knowledge was good enough already to analyse someone I'm completely unfamiliar with and so I took that as a challenge. The responses I got from this post were so so sweet and definitely gave me a confidence boost! And also, I would've never thought that half a year later, my bestie would get me into Enhypen and that I'd count them to my fave groups now.😂💗
Stray Kids: Okay so, I don't think I've ever done either of these two things for another group so far... I haven't been a "proper stan" until July/August 2018 but back when Hellevator dropped, I got this song recommended to me on youtube and I loved it so much that I've kept up with SKZ's music as much as I've never kept up with the music of a group I don't stan. And also, there was once a time in which I stayed up until 6am, just so I could watch Stray Kids live on After School Club together with my friend. We were both so hyper due to a lack of sleep and it was just such a fun and memorable experience.💗 And a third thing is that I actually bought some of SKZ's Japanese releases which I've never bought from another group so far.🤔
The Boyz: Well...this is actually less of an experience with the whole group and rather just an experience with Kevin. In March of last year Kevin went live on the V app and I was watching his live (duh) and when he was answering some questions, I also wrote a comment and asked him something AND HE SAW IT AND REPLIED and I freaked out because that's never happened to me before. So yeah, that was one of those moments that made me incredibly happy and I'll never ever forget it.🤧💗 There's actually a second unique thing I could mention here but this is one that makes me incredibly sad lmao. So lo and behold, The Boyz is the only fave group of mine I don't own any albums of yet??? And I'm very adamant on changing that. But I tend to want to always buy a group's whole discography and since I don't have the money for all of that, I've shied away from ordering albums for them for the past year. Why am I like this- 🤚🏻😭
TXT: This is less of an actual experience... but, in my 5.5 years of being into Kpop, I've only once bought a Season's Greetings so far, and it was TXT's Season's Greetings for 2021💗 (I've just changed the calendar from September to October and that's what gave me the idea for this tag). A second unique thing is that for the first (and so far only) time, I entered a fansign raffle, it was for TXT. I wasn't selected which was to expect since I only bought 3 albums (all 3 versions of the Blue Hour album) but it's fine^^ (I might try again but this time with Enhypen, since I've already preordered the Dimension: Dilemma set from weverse shop,,, but I'm scared lmao). A third thing I could mention here is that I actually have a weverse magazine for TXT with an interview with each member in it! It's beautiful, the pictures are ethereal, and I will definitely use it to improve my Korean!! (ง'̀-'́)ง💗
of course, you don't have to do this if you think this is a dumb idea assfghdkdkl but I'm tagging: @marculees @interstellix @http-peachie @oddlittlefandomist @gyudenial and anyone else who'd like to do it~🥺💗

“Look over here!”
TXT turned obediently to the photographer, smiling at the wall of cameras. Sara held up a finger heart, giving a tiny smile as they were directed to move on.
“This is ridiculous.” She said for the thousandth time that day.
“You look nice.” Soobin promised her. “Besides, the worst is over. Now we just get to mingle and have fun.”
The Christmas party that they were attending was already packed with idols, and Sara swallowed before they descended into the room. Taehyun clutched the material of her skirt in his hands, staying close by her side.
“You’ll wrinkle it.” Sara scolded.
“Like you care?” He replied.
He wasn’t wrong. Sara had put up a fight when she’d been shown her dress, even though it honestly wasn’t that bad. It had elbow length sleeves made of a cheer material, but the bodice and knee-length skirt were made of a shimmery black material. Her tiny silver heels also weren’t that bad, but she was certain she looked like some sort of lumbering giant.
“Soo-ji!” Someone shouted, drawing their attention over to the snack table.
Sara couldn’t hold back a laugh as she saw Tori arguing with Jisung. Apparently she was too loud, but she shoved him away and waved Sara and the boys over.
Tori looked gorgeous, of course, and Sara immediately envied how comfortable she looked. Tori’s dress was short and strapless, done in a bright red to match her lipstick. She tossed a carrot stick to Jisung as Sara approached.
“You look amazing!” Tori gushed, pulling her into a hug. “Seriously, I think you’re the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen.”
“Calm down, Tori.” Jisung rolled his eyes. “We don’t need another dating scandal.”
Sara laughed. “You look great too. Have you guys been here long?”
Tori shook her head. “Maybe twenty minutes. But I’ve already hit my snack quota before I burst out of this dress.”
“Cookie, Noona?” Kai reached around Tori and grabbed a couple of cookies, one of which Sara accepted.
“What are we supposed to do?” Sara asked with her mouth full. “Just talk?”
“I guess so. There’s supposed to be music later, but not everyone is here yet.” Tori answered.
Someone appeared behind Sara, poking Tori in the side.
“Noona!” I.N (Sara tried to remember his name, and thought it might be Jeongin), “ I brought you something.”
“Oh, what?” Tori closed her eyes. “Please be snacks.”
“Felix wouldn’t let me. Open your eyes?”
Jeongin pulled out a rose, and extended it happily to Tori.
“Ooh, it’s so pretty!” Tori beamed. “Where did you get this?”
“They’re just giving them out.” He answered. “I really hope you-”
“Guys!” Chan’s voice carried across the room. “Let’s go, pictures!”
“Crap.” Tori sighed. “We gotta go. I’ll meet up with you later, okay?”
“See ya.” Sara sighed.
Her own boys were busy ravaging the snack table, and she didn’t really know anyone else.
“I’m going to go sit down.” She told Yeonjun. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
“You hear that guys?” Yeonjun said teasingly. “Sara says we aren’t allowed to have fun.”
“Ignoring you.” Sara sang, walking away.
There was a fountain in the middle of the room, and lots of people were sitting around it. But it felt too out-in-the-open for Sara, and she moved towards a row of benches lining the outside of the room.
Sitting herself down on the bench, she sighed in relief. Now that she wasn’t the center of attention, she felt like she could relax and just people watch. At one side of the room, she spotted Tori playing rock-paper-scissors with Felix, and to the other side, her boys had located Ateez and were busy presenting snacks.
She played absently with one of the flowers in the vase next to the bench, admiring the way the fake snow made it sparkle.
“Is Sara okay?” Hyunjin asked Tori, placing a hand on her back to draw her away from her battle with Felix.
“Soo-ji?” Tori turned around. “I was just talking to her. Why?”
“Because she’s been sitting on that bench for ten minutes, by herself, playing with a flower.” He pointed out. “She looks kind of lonely.”
“I don’t know, maybe-” Felix poked Tori in the back, giving her a knowing look.
Tori blinked. “What is wrong with you. Hyunjin just noticed that Sara is -”
“Man, she sure does look lonely.” Felix cut her off. “It’s a shame no one is keeping her company.”
“Should I go?” Tori asked. “Do you really think...”
Felix made an X with his hands, leaning forward and whispering in Tori’s ear.
Tori nodded. Hyunjin hadn’t noticed their exchange, as he was attempting to locate TXT in the crowd. But they were hidden from view, and Sara was still very much alone.
“Oppa,” Tori leaned closer to Hyunjin. “I have to run to the washroom. You should go see if Sara is okay.”
“Me? You should. You’re her friend.” He seemed surprised.
Felix rolled her eyes. “Wardrobe malfunction. Tori’s got to go.”
“You look fine, I-”
“My bra came undone.” Tori said simply. “Go. I’ll come join you soon.”
Felix gave Hyunjin an encouraging look, before placing a hand on Tori’s back and leading her away.
Hyunjin swallowed, before he made his way in Sara’s direction. This was probably a terrible idea, but for some reason he didn’t stop moving forward.
Sara looked up as a pair of feet stopped in front of her. She blinked. “Hyunjin?”
“Ah, hi?” He offered.
“Hi.” She said with a smile. “I thought you guys were taking pictures.”
“We’re all done.” He answered. “Are...um...you okay?”
“Am i okay?” Sara nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. Why?”
“Sorry, this was stupid. I  just...Tori and I thought you looked lonely but then this whole thing happened with her bra so now I’m here and-”
“Her bra?” Sara tilted her head. “Nevermind. I don’t mind the company. Want to sit?”
“Ah, sure.” He sat next to her on the bench. “Oh, I brought you something.”
“You brought me something?” Sara asked skeptically. She was very confused about why Hyunjin was here, why he seemed so uncomfortable, and years of friendship with Yeonjun had lead her to never trust a surprise gifts. “Why?”
“Because...well...you didn’t have one. So I thought you might like one.” He lifted his hand, and Sara realized for the first time that it was clutching a rose, identical to the one Jeongin had presented Tori with.
She took it shyly. “Thank you. It’s really nice.”
“They were giving them out at that table over there...so I thought you might...” He sighed. “Sorry. I’m probably being really weird right now. We usually leave the making-new-friends thing up to Tori.”
“She is good at that.” Sara agreed, giving the rose a sniff. “But seriously, thanks. I love it.”
“If you’re not lonely...is there a reason you’re here all by yourself?” He asked curiously.
Sara shrugged. “I’m not much of a party person. Once the boys get bored of food, they’ll come find me. Plus, if I stand too long in these shoes I’ll probably break an ankle.”
“They look nice though.” He peered at her feet. “I mean...you look nice. The party look suits you.”
Sara wasn’t sure if she was blushing from the compliment or from stress. “Thanks. You look really nice too.”
Hyunjin looked down at his suit. “It’s kind of boring. The stylists usually save the good looks for Tori.”
“She does look really pretty.” Sara agreed. “That dress is amazing. I’d never wear it, but she looks incredible.”
Hyunjin shrugged. “I don’t know, I kinda like yours more. It’s more like...elegant, if that makes sense.”
Sara gave a small nod. “Yeah, I think I prefer this one too.”
They fell into a semi-awkward silence, both of them staring at the crowd around them.
“Tori’s not coming over, is she?” Hyunjin sighed.
Sara laughed. “I mean...she is kind of forgetful.”
“We usually call it excitable, to be nice.” He laughed. “But, I should go find her. Make sure everything is okay with her...”
“Her bra?” Sara raised an eyebrow. “You should probably do that.”
“Right.” He stood, his hands searching for pockets that weren’t there. “It was nice talking to you. I’ll see you around?”
“Yeah, for sure.” She held up the flower, still clasped in her hands. “Thanks for the rose.”
“Anytime.” He gave a sharp nod, and then practically marched away.
Sara bit her lip, giving the rose another sniff.
“Where’d you get that?” Yeonjun demanded as he appeared in front of her.
“I was going to get you one!” Taehyun protested. “Did you get it for yourself?”
Sara shook her head. “It’s from someone else. You boys took too long at the snack table.”
“Noona, they had cheese cut like Christmas trees.” Beomgyu explained. “It was important.”
“Of course.” She nodded solemnly.
“Are you having a good time, at least?” Soobin asked.
Sara wrinkled her nose, before nodding. “Yeah, I am.”

reaction: pirate!ateez when y/n gets captured in an attack
Tumblr media
a/n : im so glad y'all liked the pirate!ateez au so much hehe & im just going to base this off the roles i gave them in this post,, also this is my first attempt at making an ateez reaction so here we go! thanks for requesting!
Tumblr media
when another powerful pirate crew, TXT, had launched an attack on your ship, it led to a hand to hand combat on your ship's deck. since it was the first time this had ever happened, you didn't know what to do, stunned. the captain of TXT spots you and immediately took a liking to you, ordering his men to capture you. ( ) sees you getting dragged onto TXT's ship and :
Seonghwa
Tumblr media
Seonghwa would be more mad than scared if anything because how dare them touch you. He would go into rage mode and would start fighting more aggressively to end the attack faster so that he could save you since he couldn't run off midway as he had to set a good example for the rest of the crew as the quartermaster. When he'd save you, he would chide you for not having ran back to your cabin and might accidentally call you a burden but only because he was already fuming from the whole situation.
Hongjoong
Tumblr media
Even though he was usually a sweet bub and you never ever see him lose his temper, when he saw you getting captured he would be just like hwa, more angry than worried because he's confident he will win against TXT anyways. He would quickly give out the necessary orders before going to confront the captain of the other ship. And if words don't work, he would be full on beast mode when he fights. He would definitely comfort you when you were saved but he would become a little naggy, teaching you how to stay safe the next time this happens again
Yunho
Tumblr media
He would be so out of his mind after seeing you get dragged by the TXT crew members that he would be fighting in a daze, letting his muscle memory take over because he can't stop thinking what they might do to you. He would just want to quickly end the fight so that he could get to you. When he saved you, he would be the one crying more than you were and you ended up having to comfort him because he was so scared of losing you, blaming himself again for letting you stay on board.
Yeosang
Tumblr media
Since it was already a hand to hand combat on deck, Yeosang wouldn't have to be in charge of the helm. Though he had been trained in combat before, his responsibility was to hide to keep himself safe and alive otherwise no one would be able to sail the ship after the attack. However, to save you, he would push all of that aside and will jump onto TXT's ship deck, fighting anyone who would stand in his way. He would blame himself for not having done a good job in moving the ship away in time to avoid the battle on deck though there was nothing much he could do when the rudder had been damaged.
San
Tumblr media
As the first mate, he knew better than to run off from his position and stop fighting just to save you but he did exactly that anyways, too afraid to lose you to think about the consequences when joong or hwa finds out. He would blame himself for not keeping a close eye on you and after he had saved you, he's not going to be leaving your side for at least the next 10 days. Like joong, he would tell you how to hide if another deck fight happens.
Mingi
Tumblr media
Mingi was the only one who wasn't trained to fight and so you can imagine how helpless he felt when he saw you getting captured. He would go into panic mode and would ask Jongho for help to save you, begging him with tears in his eyes when he told him to wait. Jongho could see how much you meant to Mingi and would go right away to save you. When you were back on deck after the whole battle was over, he would be too ashamed to face you, feeling like he didn't deserve you because he can't protect you. He would definitely make Jongho train him to fight after the whole incident.
Wooyoung
Tumblr media
Wooyoung would be angry and scared. He had fought before becoming the cook for the crew but because it's been so long since then, he was doubtful of his abilities. He would ask San to come along with him as backup but it really wasn't necessary because the thought of you being in danger enabled him to defeat the people holding you hostage at ease. After saving you, he would burst into tears because everything had been so overwhelming.
Jongho
Tumblr media
You would think Jongho would be calm since he used to be in the navy but that wasn't the case at all because this time, you were in danger and you meant everything to him. He would blank out and panic, blaming himself for not firing the cannons well enough to prevent TXT from approaching. Joong was the one who snapped him out of it, yelling at him to either focus on fighting or just go ahead and save you. Just like Yunho, he'd be crying harder than you, hugging you tightly and not letting you go.

Top 20 Songs of 2020
Okay y’all, here’s my top kpop songs of 2020 list for this year (finally, good lord this year felt like an eternity). These are the 20 songs that I felt really made an impact on me this year and why 💕
Starting from last to first, here we go!
20. Dr. Bebe, Pentagon - this song deserved so much better tbh the music video was everything, their acting was excellent and the vocals were *chefs kiss* i also loved the dark, creepy vixx -reminiscent vibes
19. Back Door, Stray Kids - Ok like objectively i know that God’s Menu was like their piece de resistance this year, but Back Door was just so fun and had a great bass line and the choreo was SO good
18. Cry For Me, Twice - this literally JUST came out like two seconds ago but let me tell you cry for me has legit been stuck in my head from the SECOND i heard it just ask my sister she’s this close to killing me next time i sing the chorus
17. Red Sun, Dreamcatcher - Let’s be real, dreamcatcher’s entire studio album was perfect from start to finish, and red sun was a standout among that perfection for me like from the magical mystical instrumental to dami’s absolutely earth-shattering rap line, just absolute gold my dude
16. Kick It, NCT 127 - This was a very polarizing song for a lot of people i feel, but for me the concept was literally executed to perfection. It had so much potential to be cheesy and gimmicky, but it totally wasn’t and i think it’s because nct 127 committed SO wholeheartedly to the concept
15. So Bad, StayC - THIS song. I actually already had my list all written out when i discovered so bad by stayc and i literally had to reconsider my ENTIRE existence. They are so so good with such a talented production team backing them and they’ve literally just debuted.
14. Dun Dun, Everglow - A lot of people really hated this song, and don’t get me wrong i had my own issues with the line and screen time distribution for sure, but you can’t deny it’s a total banger
13. Nonstop, Oh My Girl - This is the kind of song that i never really expected to fall in love with. It’s bubbly and cute and quite like youthful, but oh my girl honestly pull that concept off so well and they had me immediately hypnotized
12. Be In Love, Itzy - 2020 was the year of bailey eating her own words aka the year of me falling in love with itzy. when itzy debuted i seriously thought if they stuck with their concept i probably wouldn’t ever be into their music but lmao. they showed me. anyway this b side is seriously underrated and it really shows the girls vocal talents off, especially lia and yuna
11. Love Killa, Monsta X - hyungwon. that’s it that’s the post . . . jk but for real, visuals popped off. love killa was exactly what i’ve been wanting from mx for the past year or so. they hit the nail right on the head with the this one.
10. Secret Story of the Swan, izone - my relationship with izone is basically like my relationship with itzy part 2. I always appreciated them for their talents and having a very recognizeable sound but i could never get into their music. then SSOTS happened, and to be honest it STILL gets stuck in my head at random times
9. Phobia, Stray Kids - i LOVE this b side. for a while i thought it might replace Voices as my favourite skz track, but it just didn’t have the longevity that voices does. that said, it’s still such a good song with an important message did i mention that i love stray kids
8. La Di Da, Everglow - i have said it before and i’ll say it again: no one is doing it like everglow. this song came so out of the blue and blindsided so many people with how unexpectedly different it was, all while being a certified banger. the line distribution is aMAZING, you get to hear each member’s unique flavor, the straight 80’s vibe is immaculate, the styling is God-tier, just . . . everything. i LOVE this comeback
7. Eternally, TXT - if you know me, you know i love a good beat switch-up (i mean, my ult group is stray kids for crying out loud) and ladies. this song is the switch up to end all switch ups. txt somehow managed to combine two completely different tracks, each of which would have been A+ songs all on their own, and somehow make something a million times better. listening to eternally is a whole experience in and of itself and i haven’t heard anything that could compare to it to this day
6. Girls, Nature - UGH. WHAT an underappreciated masterpiece. girls by nature does everything that other companies are so afraid to do with their girl groups: a strictly dark, horror concept, a haunting melodic line with no need for a rap breakdown because it stands on its own as is, a visual concept that does not sexualize the girls in any way but instead tells a story of a person at the mercy of the one they love. it’s e v e r y t h i n g. Not to mention the song has one of the best pre choruses i’ve EVER heard.
5. Wannabe, Itzy - Let’s be honest, you knew this was going to be here. Everyone and their grandma was learning ryujins shoulder move. this was literally the summer of itzy’s wannabe. This is actually the comeback that got me onboard the itzy train and now i’m barreling down the mountain going 200mph and can’t find the breaks
4. I Can’t Stop Me, Twice - I think onces really had no idea where this comeback was gonna go. after more and more got such mixed responses from fans, we all weren’t really sure what direction the company was going to take twice in next. personally, i’m SO happy they went for the retro synth 80’s vibe concept. it was current enough to fish in non fans and keep new onces engaged but they also added their own unique twice spice to it, and i’ve been playing it on repeat for weeks also stan risky risky wiggy wiggi
3. Oh My God, G Idle - Ahhhh, yes. another polarizing song from gidle. omg for me was exactly what i needed from gidle. They’d been playing around with the darker concepts but had never fully committed to the potential that i saw in their music, but with omg we finally got the see them go full out with it, and i don’t think ANYONE could have done it better. The drop while empty was somehow so satisfying, the visials in the mv were visceral and witchy and to think that soyeon wrote and produced such a masterpiece. all i can say is bravo
2. Daisy, Pentagon - if this song doesn’t hold a very special place in your universe heart then buddy i think it’s time to throw the whole heart away. daisy, on top of being the first song to earn pentagon a well deserved music show win, was so emotionally moving from the lyrics to the mv to the choreo. you don’t need to know korean to feel exactly what the writer is feeling when hui sings that chorus, and that my friend is true artistry.
1. Answer, Ateez - Bet you were expecting a stray kids song. answer though has had my whole entire heart body and soul from the second it came out all the way back in january. for it to last a whole year as my favourite song of 2020 really speaks volumes as to how incredibly talented ateez and their production team are. Over the course of this absolute shit year, this song really inspired me to push forward, to keep working toward my goals and to keep believing in myself, and i think that’s a pretty amazing feat for one single song.
Anyway y’all sorry for the unnecessarily long post. I’ve just been compiling this list for months and was really excited to share. If any of my followers or just anyone who reads through this wants to share their own list, id love to see what songs impacted you this year! Happy New Years’ yall!

Chapter 21 - My Muse
“Your apartment?” you asked softly, staring back at Taehyung. He nodded.
“Yeah. It’s a lot closer to here than your apartment is, so we won’t get as wet. The rain is only supposed to last for a little while, so maybe we can have dessert there. I think I have some chocolate cake in my fridge my friend Jisoo made for me.” He offered you a small smile. You blinked, looking down at the half-eaten burger in his hands. “Only if you’re comfortable with it.” He added quickly.
“Well…” you sighed. “Maybe it’s a good idea. I don’t want to run all the way home and risk getting a cold. Maybe the rain will at least lighten up in a little bit.” Taehyung felt his heartbeat just slightly faster in his chest. He didn’t think you would agree, however, he was very excited at the thought. It took most of his energy to not jump directly out of his chair and head straight home. However, he kept himself calm, simply leaning back in his chair and pressing his drink to his lips, taking a sip of the soda as he watched you finish up your drink and meal. “Just promise me something, okay?”
Taehyung raised his eyebrow and hummed in curiosity. “Yes?” he asked curiously.
“You’re not trying to be sneaky, right?” you asked. Taehyung pressed his tongue inside his mouth, offering you an amused grin. “I have to ask.”
“Of course not.” He said simply. “I simply want to make sure you don’t get sick when you don’t have to. Well, that, and the chocolate cake.” That one made you laugh, and you nodded.
“Then let’s get going. I need to know how this cake tastes.” Taehyung nodded, both of you standing up and exiting the restaurant. When you reached the door, Taehyung turned to you, pulling his jacket up so that it once again was resting up against your head, shielding you from the rain that continued to plummet towards the pavement. “You promise it’s not far?” you asked. “I’m already starting to feel cold.” Taehyung looked down at you, gently taking your hand into his.
“Promise.” He assured. “As long as we run~.” You pouted. However, your pout of disappointment was left unnoticed as Taehyung quickly led you into the storm. You immediately felt heavy droplets splash onto the jacket and soak into your head, and you groaned. Taehyung had a few inches on you in terms of height, and he had much longer legs, so you were finding it difficult to keep up with him for a few moments while simultaneously clutching onto his jacket to ensure it wouldn’t fall off and leave your head exposed. After running for what felt like forever, you saw Taehyung make a quick right, and suddenly, you no longer felt water coating your head. Looking up, you caught sight of an awning that was covering the both of you. When your eyes turned to Taehyung, he was buzzing you into the apartment building. “This is the home stretched. We’re just going to have them take the elevator up a few flights.” Once he was buzzed in, Taehyung quickly took your hand and led you inside.
Almost immediately, the warmth of the inside of the apartment building overtook you, despite how wet you had become. It felt as if the light alone was practically drying you off simply by standing in the foyer. You sighed, pulling the jacket off of your head and tossing it over your shoulder. When you looked over, you saw a small foyer with a small sitting area, one that might have acted as the common area for various tenants, directly to the right of you in a separate room. You caught a glimpse of a young teenage boy, one who must have just gotten in as well, and was grabbing a drink from one of the vending machines. When you looked over in Taehyung’s direction, you saw him heading down the hallway and in the direction of the elevator to head up to his apartment. You were quick to follow, not wanting to be left behind.
The trip up the elevator was silent, neither of you speaking. Looking down at the jacket in your hands, you decided to focus on watching the few droplets that rolled towards the tip of the sleeves, pooling into droplets and plopping down onto the floor of the elevator. As the elevator rocked both of you, you tried to keep your mind calm. Tried.
I cannot believe I agreed to go into his apartment so late at night! You thought to yourself. I shouldn’t be here; this goes against everything I told myself I wouldn’t do…. As your mind continued to race, you glanced up at Taehyung. His hands were in his pockets, eyes straight ahead as he rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet. He said he has no ill intentions…I shouldn’t be so anxious about it. As you thought more about it, you thought back to something your sister would say to you if you happened to voice your concerns to her.
“If you didn’t want to go into his apartment, you would not have accepted.”
“She’s right…” you mumbled under your breath.
“What?” he asked curiously, his eyes turning directly to you. Your eyes widened, looking up at him as the realization set in that you had said that final part out loud. “Who is right?”
“Nobody.” You sighed. “I’m just thinking out loud about something else. Don’t worry…” Taehyung nodded, turning back to his positioning straight ahead right as the elevator dinged, ending the conversation just before he could try to pry for any more information on your little white lie. A soft sigh left your body, and you quickly followed Taehyung into the hallway and down to his apartment. With a click of the front door, his door swung open and Taehyung led you inside.
“Make yourself comfortable.” He said happily. Gently taking the jacket from your grasp, he set it aside, draped over a chair at his dining room table. “I’ll put some tea on to warm us up.”
“Oh, okay. Thank you.” You offered Taehyung a small smile as he disappeared into his kitchen, and you found a home on his couch. Curious eyes wandered around the immediate vicinity, and it was almost immediately that you caught a glimpse at all of the paintings that were plastered on the walls. They surrounded the television, the windows, every piece of furniture that was placed against the wall. You even noticed some pictures propped up against the wall, as if they were like furniture. They were pictures that you had seen posted from start to finish on social media, ones you had seen at each art show you had attended for him. However, seeing them all together, piled one on top of the other and hung on walls like various sized Tetris pieces, you began to really how many Taehyung still truly had.
A deep voice pulled you back from your distraction, and you turned to see Taehyung set a cup of tea down in front of you. “Here…” he said softly. You lifted the cup, and quickly took a sip. The warm liquid spread across your body in a way that made it feel as though you were floating. Your fingers tingled from the heat coming out of the cup, but you could care less. It felt good. “Do you need…something warm to wear?” he asked. When your eyes flickered up to him once again, the blush on his cheeks was ever so noticeable.
“Thanks.” You said, setting the cup down on the table once again. “But I’m okay. You, on the other hand-.” You motioned to his clothes, soaked with rainwater due to the intense exposure he experienced as he shielded you with his coat. “You’re soaked to the bone. If you don’t change now, you’ll catch a cold.” Taehyung blinked, looking down at the clothes he wore. They were sticking to him, clinging for dear life. He felt the uncomfortable way they glided across his skin when he moved ever since he got into the house. However, he was so busy getting tea for you, change was the last thing on his mind. “I’ll wait here.” You smiled, once again holding up your teacup. “I have my tea, so I’ll be fine.”
A chuckle escaped his lips as he hopped up from the couch. “I’ll be right back, then.” With that, he exited to his room in the back of the apartment, leaving you alone with your thoughts and your tea. The door to his room clicked shut, and you were quick to lift yourself from your spot on the couch. You wanted a good look at these paintings, it felt like such a rare opportunity for some reason. As you walked over to the wall to your right, you immediately noticed tons of different styles of artwork. Oil paintings, watercolor paintings, abstract paintings, landscape paintings, portraits. It was as if Taehyung owned a museum all his own within the confinements of these 4-walls and limited square feet. Your hands lifted to your arms, rubbing them gently as a slight chill ran through your body. Maybe you should have agreed to at least change your shirt, but it was too late now.
As you walked beside the walls, you continued to take in each and every painting that came into your view. Each color, each brushstroke, it felt as if the set up of the paintings told a story all on their own. It was masterfully done, but maybe you were being a little too awestruck by what you were looking at. You must have been because somehow, you accidentally bumped into the large table that rested in the corner of where this wall ended and the one leading to the bathroom began. You quickly glanced down to your ankles and saw various crumpled up pieces of paper roll nearby, shaken from the impact of the contact. “Ow…” you huffed, scolding yourself for the lack of attention you had while walking; the kind you try to instill in your ever distracted students. As you turned to the desk and got a better look at it, you noticed not only was it a desk, but it was a desk covered in tons of smaller papers. Cups scattered the top of the desk, and various artist utensils sat in them; pencils, paintbrushes, markers. You hummed, glancing back up at Taehyung’s room. The door was still closed, and it sounded as if a muffled speaking voice was coming out of his room. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to take a little peek. You thought to yourself. Maybe I can say I saw his magnum opus before it was even created. That would sure be something.
Curious hands followed the actions of a curious mind, and before you knew it, you had gently lifted a small stack of plain white paper. Some of them had hints of drawings on them, promises of works that had yet to be completed. However, as you continued to flip, you noticed more and more of them with an intense amount of sketching, and an intense amount of color. You were absolutely beaming as you continued to shuffle through them. Your curiosity only grew as you turned towards the desk once again, and now, some new sets of drawings came into your line of vision. The difference with these, however, was upon seeing them, you noticing something very familiar. Leaning forward, you scooped them into your hand.
-------------------------
“Jimin, what do I do?” Taehyung whispered as he pressed the phone to his ear. He was digging in his closet for a warm shirt. He wanted to still give you something warm to wear just in case you needed it when you left. “As we speak, she’s sitting in my living room!”
“Well first off,” Jimin began. “Don’t try to panic like that. She’ll notice when you come out of your bedroom.”
“Well yeah, I know. But I didn’t expect this. Inviting her over just came into my head and spilled out of my mouth without realizing it!” He sighed, finally grabbing an older grey sweatshirt and closing his closet. “I don’t want her to think I’m trying anything funny.”
Jimin let out a sigh, and Taehyung scratched the back of his head. “Then don’t do anything funny with her…”
“Oh wow.” Taehyung rolled his eyes. “Jimin, I am so happy to have a friend with such infinite wisdom to provide me with such well-needed advice…” the dryness in Taehyung’s voice made Jimin snort out a laugh on the other end. “Come on, do you know me or not?”
“I know, I know.” Jimin coughed between his laughter. “But if you don’t do anything weird, then she won’t think you’re doing anything weird. Just enjoy the time with her and make it count.”
           “Right…”
“And call me when she leaves. I need details.” Taehyung smiled a bit.
“Talk to you later then. I should get going now before she starts thinking I left out the window.”
           “But…it’s your apart-.”
“I know it’s my apartment, bye.” Taehyung hung up quickly without waiting for Jimin to say anything back and headed out of his room. He opened the door and stepped back into the living room. Almost immediately, he saw you standing by the desk, paper in hand. Taehyung felt his heart stop beating at that moment, and he gulped. He knew exactly what you were looking at. His hands buried into his pockets and headed in your direction. The footsteps easily alerted you, and you looked up quickly. “Oh uhm…” Taehyung mumbled. “I see you found my…”
A smile graced your lips as you turned the pictures in his direction. Taehyung’s suspicion of what exactly you found on his desk was confirmed when he saw your face sketched ever so carefully on the paper, the smirk on your face practically paralleling the one in the picture. “Your pictures?”
“Heh…” he grinned shyly. “Yes.” You nodded, your eyes casting back down as you once again went back to examining the pictures. “I uhm….” Taehyung tried to find the right words to say in this situation. You smiled.
“You really are talented.” You said softly. “Being able to turn truly anything into a work of art.” Taehyung’s lips pursed together, and he took one of the pictures in his hands. One of you offering him a frustrated pout. There were so many times he had that face given to him that he could not pinpoint the exact time or scenario in which it happened.
“I draw exactly what I see each time.” He said simply. You looked away, feeling your face heat up as Taehyung shuffled through the pictures. “I have one of you blushing.” He smiled, holding it up. “I hope this doesn’t seem weird…” he said softly. “I didn’t know what your reaction would be if you saw a stack of drawings of your face in my apartment, you know?”
You grinned. “I think they’re really well done. I’m honored you take the time to draw me.”
“Well, I can’t choose when I get to feel inspired, you know.” Taehyung set the pictures down. “I was going to give them to you as a gift on your birthday, too. Surprise…” You pressed your hands together shyly, glancing up at him. “For some reason, even when I had my worst artist block, for some reason I never had a problem finding inspiration when I get to draw you.”
“Well, I guess I’m honored.” You chuckled. You turned your head to look at the paintings that were hanging up on the walls around you. “I’m happy to be drawn by the same hand as these paintings.” Taehyung smiled.
“I wanted to put one of them onto a canvas,” Taehyung said simply, and you quickly turned back to him. “I was just trying to pick the right one. I think they’d all turn out nice. But I want the one I pick to be perfect. It represents you, after all…”
“Oh gosh.” You quickly covered your cheeks and turned away. “Stop that.”
“I’m serious!” Taehyung grinned. “Even if I wasn’t trying to…ask you on dates, if I made something that represented you, I would want it to represent you well.” Slowly, you leaned forward to look at the papers that were fanned in Taehyung’s hands like a deck of playing cards. He looked at you as you glanced over the pictures once again.
“I like this one.” You said softly, pointing to one picture of you in your work clothes. You were smiling, most likely sitting in your work chair as you worked with the children and Taehyung acted as an extra set of eyes to monitor the children’s behavior. Well, now you knew that was the last thing he was doing. “It looks really cute.” Taehyung nodded.
“Okay…” he said. “Can I ask you a crazy question?” he asked curiously. “Since it’s still raining, would you let me…sketch you right now?” Your eyes widened a bit, and Taehyung felt his heart begin to race. “Y-you don’t have to! I swear you don’t, it was just an idea. You look beautiful and I want to-.”
“I would love to…” you said softly. “Only if you think I could.”
“Of course.” Taehyung smiled. “It’s just a sketch, so it won’t take too long. Plus, it’s raining, so maybe it’ll stop or lighten up before you go.” You nodded. “Uhm…okay…hold on. I didn’t plan for this.” You chuckled a bit, watching as Taehyung scrambled towards the couch. Quickly, he pushed his coffee table out of the way, pressing it up against the wall. Once it was there, Taehyung headed towards the dining room chairs, grabbing hold of one and bringing it in place of the coffee table. He set it down in front of the couch and motioned you over. “Is this okay?”
Nodding, you walked towards the chair, sitting on it. You placed your hands on your lap after tucking a strand of hair behind your ear and glancing up at Taehyung. He stared at you for a moment, and you could see the pink in his cheeks. It made you smile. “Taehyung…is there anything you need from me?”
“Need from-. Oh no, no,” he said quickly. “You look…perfect, actually…” As Taehyung took a seat on the couch, he grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil. He looked across at you, and all you could do was offer a smile back at him. He nodded. “It doesn’t take me long to sketch.” His deep voice assured.
“Take your time if it means I’ll come out looking good.” You grinned, and Taehyung laughed a bit. He looked down at his paper, and you saw his hand begin to move.
You weren’t sure how long you had been sitting there before you had to shift a few times in your seat. When you glanced back up at Taehyung, you saw his eyes fixated on the page. His hand was flying from side to side, occasionally flipping the pencil around and pressing the eraser down to fix a mistake or removed a guiding sketched line. His tongue stuck out slightly when he did that, and it made you smile. After a moment, you saw Taehyung look up at you, and you quickly glanced down at your lap, a sense of embarrassment washing over you. Despite not looking at Taehyung, you could hear him chuckle.
“Can you please look back up?” he asked curiously. “I can’t see your face if you’re staring at your lap.”
“R-right…sorry.” You said, lifting your head in his direction. Taehyung’s lips slipped into a slight frown and you suddenly felt nervous. “What’s wrong?” you asked curiously.
“You uh…your hair, it…” Taehyung glanced down at the paper in his hand for a moment, before looking back up at you. He set the paper down on the couch, before getting up and walking towards you. Your eyes followed him as he got closer, and your neck craned up to meet him before he knelt to meet your gaze. “May I?” he asked, motioning to your hair. You nodded.
“Yea, okay…” you said softly. You watched from the corner of your eyes as Taehyung’s hand lifted and brushed some hair out of your eyes, tucking it behind your ear. He continued to scan your face, looking to see if any other hairs fell out of place when you lifted your head back up from your lap. You had to admit, your heart was racing at how close Taehyung was to you at this moment, however, you tried to keep your composure, slightly gripping the fabric of your pants and averting your eyes back to your lap. Despite this, you could still see Taehyung shifting in front of you. His hand was still gently gliding around, moving hair from in front of your face, tucking down any flyaway hair strands, and setting your hair in a way that he must be envisioning for his picture. Every time one of his fingers grazed your skin, you could feel the area tingling, almost as if it was on fire. You had never felt something like that before from something as simple as a touch. You were curious, and you glanced back up at Taehyung as he knelt before you.
Dark eyes met your gaze, and his hand stopped midair. He scanned you for a moment as if to make sure through facial features that he was not crossing any boundaries. “…Almost done.” You could only nod, not having the strength to speak. Taehyung smiled softly at you, before quickly setting his hand on top of your head, gliding his fingers through your hair until he had some of it resting in front of your shoulder. You continued to watch his eyes as he worked, and once he pulled his hand back for good, you could have sworn you saw his eyes sparkle. “Beautiful…”
The comment took you by surprise, and you felt your ears heat up. “Stop…”
“I mean it. Just stay like that for a minute, okay? I’ll sketch the hair right now.” He stood up once again, but your eyes did not follow him this time. They simply stayed in one place, straight ahead as you watched Taehyung take his spot back on the couch. Lifting his paper and pencil back up, he stared at you once more and got right back to work. Carefully, you felt your hands relax and release the fabric of your pants. Your heart began to slow down, and you were finally able to relax again, allowing Taehyung to finish. Despite these intense feelings that were rushing through your body, you felt a slight twinge of anxious excitement for the final product. Knowing that you had been a small source of his inspiration all of this time, a place where Taehyung was able to release any creative freedoms on, made you feel a bit special. Silence filled the room, minus the scratches of Taehyung’s pencil. Once you felt your body come down from what you could only assume was some form of fight or flight, you decided to speed things up with a conversation.
“How is it coming?” you asked curiously. Taehyung glanced up at you, smiling.
“Excellent.” He said simply. “This might end up being my favorite sketch.”
“How long have you been sketching me anyway?”
“Remember when President Kim made you apologize to me?” he asked. “You pouted when I agreed to only accept a deep bow, and for some reason, that pout stuck with me for a while, and the next thing I knew I had a sketch of it.” You smiled a bit. “You promise it doesn’t creep you out?”
“Why would it?”
“Well, I guess some people would find some person, especially someone they’ve only had a positive relationship with for a short period of time, drawing them at various times for really no reason and keeping them in their apartment might be seen as stalkerish.”
“You don’t strike me as a stalker.” You said simply, giggling a bit. Taehyung chuckled, quickly erasing something on the paper before going back to fix it.
“Well, thanks.” He hummed. “Let’s see if you still think that after I show you the shrine with the candle and blood sacrifice I keep in my room.”
Despite wanting to stay still for Taehyung, that comment made you cover your mouth and laugh a bit. Quickly realizing, you attempted to fix your hair and set your hand back on your lap. “Sorry.”
“No worries. I finished the hair.”
“Is that the reason I heard you mumbling inside your bedroom before?” you asked curiously. Taehyung cocked an eyebrow at your question, though he didn’t look back up. “Because you were praying to the shrine.”
“Oh yeah.” His matter-of-fact response made you once again giggled, thought you remained still. “I was praying I would make a good impression tonight.” Nodding your head, you couldn’t help but giggle again at the thought. “I’m almost done, just sit tight a bit longer, okay?”
“I’ll try.” You teased. Taehyung only snickered, and silence filled the room once again.
After another little while, you could hear the sounds of the rain outside dying down, decreasing from buckets of rainwater to a simple and almost rhythmic tapping on the window. You closed your eyes, taking time to find a beat within those droplets, a rhythm you could play over and over in your head in hopes to make time move faster. There was only so long you could sit in one spot within wanting to shift a little bit. However, you couldn’t, as Taehyung’s deep voice poked through your thoughts.
“I’m finished.” You quickly opened your eyes and looked at him. He was smiling down at the picture. “It came out very cute.”
“Can I see?” you asked curiously, standing up from your seat. Just as you did, your knees buckled slightly, having locked from their long and stagnant time being bent as you sat patiently, and most likely from all of the times, you felt your body tense up, especially when Taehyung was up close and fixing your hair. You let out a sigh. “Aaah, my legs turned to bricks. How long did I sit for?”
“Almost an hour.” He said simply. “Sorry, normally sketches don’t take me that long. However, I also usually do it from memory. This time I had you sitting for me, so I made sure I got every important detail.”
“Well, can I see then?” you asked again. Taehyung shook his head. “Why?” you pouted.
“I want to surprise you with it when it’s done.” He replied simply. “So, for now, it’s a no.” Walking over to his desk, he set the picture into one of the drawers. You sighed. “Thank you for that, though. I think it came out nice, and it’ll look good when I paint it.”
“It was kind of fun getting to be a model in some way.” You admitted sheepishly. As you began walking, your legs loosened up and you approached the balcony window. “It looks like the rain has cleared up.” You said softly. Taehyung looked at you as you stared out the balcony window.
When he did, his mind flashed back to just a little while ago, when he knelt in front of you to fix your hair. He remembered how shy you looked at that moment, a look he had yet to really see from you. He saw you get sheepish; he saw you get embarrassed, but at that moment, it looked as if you were the new girl in class preparing to introduce herself to 20 strangers who had plans to judge you solely based on the first words that came out of your mouth.
At that moment, Taehyung felt his heart beating in his chest and ears so hard he thought they would burst! Right there, he wanted to tell you exactly how he felt. He wanted to spill his heart out all at once, right on the floor, so you finally knew exactly what he was feeling. However, he held back. He knew if he did it then, he may never get to finish his sketch, and this was one he did not want to complete only from memory. The entire time he was sketching, he was wondering if tonight would be the night he’d finally get the courage to do it. He felt the atmosphere between you both was good enough…that he could at least try. His thinking was cut short when you said “I should probably head home.”
“W-wait…” he said gently when he saw you turn from the balcony. He walked over to you, a piece of paper in his hands. He quickly handed it to you. “Since I can’t give you the one I did tonight, you can take this one to keep. If you want.” It was the picture of you grinning in work clothes, the one he sketched as you guys watched a movie to distract the kids from the storm raging outside the daycare. Taking it into your grasp, you looked up at Taehyung and smiled. “Thank you. I had a lot of fun tonight. Thank you very much.”
“I did too…” he said. He motioned you to the door, walking you over as you looked down at the picture in your hands. When he got to the door, he turned back to you. “Can we do this again soon?” he asked. You nodded happily.
“Absolutely…” Taehyung glanced up at the door, knowing once you left, he would have officially lost his chance to do what he so desperately wanted to do every time you were in earshot of him. You slid your shoes on and turned back to him. “Thank you again…” you said softly. Taehyung nodded.
Do it, do it, do it…. Chanted in his ears and the back of his head as if he was being initiated into some kind of cult. As he watched you fix your shoes, he gulped and quickly reached out, taking your hand gently. You looked up at him, curiosity in your eyes. You only saw him before you for a second, because he was quickly leaning towards you. Your eyes widened, and your mind quickly flashed back to nights prior, standing outside Namjoon’s car, his lips pressed against yours for mere seconds. You gasped, instinctively pulling your face away because Taehyung could do the same. Taehyung immediately recoiled to, covering his mouth. “Oh God, I’m sorry! That’s not what I wanted to do, I wanted to tell you…”
“Why does everyone try to kiss me out of nowhere?” you asked, covering your mouth. Your comment didn’t even register, and Taehyung was panicking. Oh God, he fucked up and he fucked up hard. He needed to fix this, or things may just go back to how they were before, and he could say goodbye to any chance of being friends with you, much less winning your affections.
“I’m sorry.” He repeated. “I wanted to tell you instead, but I panicked because I didn’t have enough time to get it all out before you left. I had a lot in my head I wanted to say…”
“I don’t deserve this kind of attention, you know…” you breathed, and Taehyung could hear your voice crack. “Why couldn’t you all throw yourselves at the feet of someone worth it? Like my sister.”
“Wh…” Taehyung blinked. “That’s not true.” He said quickly. You sighed, glancing up at him.
“I’ve never been in a situation like this before…” you admitted. “With three people in my life who actively try to win me over. I don’t know what to do. I kept saying I would never date a coworker or a parent but…I can’t lie to myself like that anymore. I’ve just never been in this situation before…” it was almost as if you were muttering to yourself, and not talking to Taehyung. He watched as you ran a hand through your hair, eyes shifting from your feet to the floor, to the window, then to the door. When you finally looked up at him, you sighed. “I like where this is going…I just-.”
“I understand,” Taehyung said quickly. “I promise, I do. Don’t say stuff you don’t me for my sake.”
“Can…can I have some time to think?” you asked, finally looking up at him again. “I want to figure all of this out before I accept any more dates. That goes for Namjoon too…”
“Of course,” Taehyung said quickly, though it pained him knowing he would have to wait longer. “Don’t rush just for us.” You nodded.
“I’m sorry I just spilled all of that out now.” You said softly.
“I’m sorry I tried to kiss you.” He smiled softly. He quickly turned around, grabbing a jacket, and handed it to you. “Here. Take this so you don’t get wet on the way home, in case the rain picks up again.” You were hesitant, but did end up taking the jacket into your hands. “I’ll see you at work…”
“Right…” you said softly. “Bye…” Nodding your head, you turned around and headed out the door. Taehyung watched you head to the elevator and waited until the doors closed behind you before closing his door and locking up for the night. Once he was alone in his apartment, he let out a frustrated sigh, pressing his forehead against the wall. He stood there for what felt like forever, finally prying himself off and heading into his room.
He had to call Jimin, he promised to tell him the details. However, he wasn’t sure he even really wanted to repeat what had happened.
-----------------------------
“Taehyungiiiieeee~!” a high-pitched voice chimed through the halls of Bright Star Preschool. Taehyung quickly looked up from his door as he shuffled through papers to see Hoseok walking down the hallway. His grin was wide and noticeable, even from a distance. “Good morning!”
Taehyung offered a small smile to his Hyung. “Good morning.” He returned. Despite Hoseok’s attempt at a cheery atmosphere, he was not in the cheeriest of moods. Ever since the night you were at his apartment, the night he tried – and failed but he tries not to remember that part – not to think much about it. He had no choice to accept your wishes and wait until you were able to sort out your feelings. It sounded easy in theory, but…
“Hoseok!” The door to your classroom flung open, and both men turned around to see you staring at them. You clutched a coffee in your hand, and you looked exhausted. “Please stop screaming, I had almost no sleep last night preparing for my evaluations, and I…” your rant was cut off when you saw Taehyung staring at you much like Hoseok was, and you blinked. “…I just need to focus.”
“Oh right, sorry.” Hoseok grinned playfully. “Here, I’ll come to help you. See you later, Taehyung!” he grinned. Taehyung waved back, watching Hoseok head back towards your classroom door. You offered Taehyung a quick smile.
“Good morning.” You greeted. Taehyung felt his greeting catch in his throat, only able to nod his head just slightly. You quickly retreated inside, Hoseok skipping behind you.
When Taehyung was alone in the hallway, and with a heavy and frustrated sigh, he muttered out a small “Good morning.”

falling for the suspect — choi yeonjun
A/N: not a BTS imagine, even though the members are mentioned and are in the imagine. okay, so this took me a while to actually sit down and write but I finally did. BTS members make an appearance in this, and they're spies along with Y/n. TXT members are still Idols. Also I'm not a hacker and idk how to hack, this is based off what I've heard of and what I've looked up. Also, I'm so sorry this has taken me a month to get up, I've been procrastinating hardcore because I've been lacking motivation to write. Let's be honest, I've been kinda lazy. Also sorry there's barely any Yeonjun or TXT boys in this 🥺 that didn't intend to happen. Maybe I'll make a part two, idk. Sorry for any grammatical mistakes or anything like that, I reread it before posting, but it's possible that I could've missed something. Thank you all for staying so patient! 💓 requested by -dynia on wattpad
Pairings: Choi Yeonjun x Reader, BTS x Reader (platonic + not really, but it’s implied)
Summary: you’re a spy trying to uncover something when you fall for a suspect on your mission.
Words: 2,666
Tumblr media
"You're one of my best agents, I expect the best from you, Y/n," Your boss approached you on the phone, entrusting you with an important task.
"Don't worry, Sir. I'll find her," You nodded eagerly, knowing he couldn't see you, but he still knew you'd get the job done. So far, you've accomplished every task he's given you; big or small.
You worked for the CIA, originally from the states, but your work brought you to South Korea two years ago. You'd been in charge of tracking down a crime lord, who is from somewhere in South Korea. He'd came to the states a few years ago, and caused mischief. Selling illegal drugs and weapons. It took you a while, but you'd managed to find out his name and the basics. You knew what he looked like, how tall he was, his habits, his strengths and weaknesses, but he was always twelve steps ahead of you. To say the least, he may or may not have known about you, due to the fact that he was always ahead of you.
"You remember our main focus right?" Lee, your boss questioned curiously through the phone. "Yes. Mari Carter, originally born in the states. Age Twenty. She married the suspect a few months ago, right?"
"Yes. We've been searching for her, and we're well aware that she does not know about what her husband does. Which means, she might be more likely to hand him over when we explain to her what he's done"
"She hasn't turned up in a few months. Namjoon last saw her boarding an American Airline, headed for South Korea"
"I see. Where should I be looking?" You mumbled lowly cautiously, smiling politely when a little girl and an older woman, probably no older than thirty, walked past you. "Give Namjoon a call. Since he's stationed here, he's probably picked a few things up. Like where Mari frequents or who she hangs out with"
"Alright, got it boss" You nodded before hanging up the call and going to your contacts to call Namjoon, a fellow spy, stationed here in South Korea like Lee had mentioned.
He immediately answered after the second ring.
You smiled as soon as you heard his voice on the other end. "Y/n, to what do I owe the pleasure of speaking to you?"
"Hi Joon," you teased. He chuckled on the other end. "Have you heard about the crime lord case? Lee told me he sent you a few files last week,"
"Yeah. Jackson Song right?" You nodded at what he'd said. "Yeah, him" Namjoon coughed on the other end, before shifting sounded through your ear.
"You're trying to find his wife right?" You hummed into the phone. "Where are you right now?" He questioned.
"North Side of Daejeon" you responded with, eyes trailing down to the ground as the wind gusted.
"You need to go to Seoul. There's an old studio apartment in the area. Jungkook, Jimin, and Tae were scoping the area out a few days ago, and saw what looked like Mari leaving the apartment. She's been there frequently from what they've informed me"
"Do you think she lives there?"
You could practically see his head shaking through the phone. "No. The young ones have been watching her for a while, and they've only seen her enter a few times after a few days. Plus, we haven't seen any sign of Song leaving or entering through any of the doors," Namjoon critiqued.
"It could be an underground tunnel" "That's unlikely" Stated your friend. "She would've used the underground tunnel if that were the case" he explained. But you simply just shook your head no.
"Well she doesn't think she's doing anything wrong. Lee informed me that Mari doesn't know that Song is a crime lord... She believes she's living a normal life with a normal husband" Your head quipped up at the sudden feeling of being watched.
"I see," Namjoon noted. "I'm texting you the apartment address right now. From what Tae told me, the door is usually locked and there is a security camera outside of the building above a large plant pot"
You didn't answer, and simply scanned the area, feeling as though somebody was watching you. You got an iffy feeling in this area. You hadn't felt like this in a while, your cover never had been blown ever.
Seeing a strange female dressed in a black trench coat across the street, you watched as her heel clad foot tapped on the ground, as if she was waiting for something.
"Y/n are you still there?" You heard through the phone, but you were too focused on the woman across the street, who kept glancing up at you every few seconds. She could've been some stranger who wasn't watching you, but with your job you couldn't be the one to easily brush things aside.
"I think someone's watching me" You whispered. Namjoon seemed to tense on the other end although he didn't immediately speak or make any sudden movements that said otherwise.
"I can send Suga to come get you..."
"No, no. It's fine. That'll look even more suspicious..." you stated. "Does he look familiar?"
"It's actually a female.... and no, I've never seen her before"
"Oh.... my bad" he apologized. You just let out a snort. "Don't doubt us women. We're more deadly than some of worst criminals out there" Namjoon chuckled lowly. "Stay safe alright? Text me or one of the boys when you get to Seoul"
"Will do. Thanks Joon"
-
After that weird sighting of the woman who you could barely make out, you cautiously drove to Seoul. Eventually after whipping out your phone to check the address for what felt like the hundredth time, your arrived at your destination.
It was an old looking green building, that wasn't too worn down, but looked as if whoever was the owner didn't care much for it. Maybe whatever was on the side was much grander.
You stood across the street, remembering the security camera. You needed to find a way into that apartment. No matter what.
You knew who you needed to text.
Y: By any chance is there any way you know how to hack into a security system?
[Sent 2:37 p.m]
Jin: Hello Y/n, such a nice greeting
[Sent 2:37 p.m]
Y: Sorry, I'm on the job, and I need your help
[Sent 2:37 p.m]
Jin: I see. I think I can help you out
[Sent 2:38 p.m]
Y: Really? That'd be a big help
[Sent 2:38 p.m]
Jin: By any chance do you know the company or IP address?
[Sent 2:38 p.m]
Y: No...
[Sent 2:38 p.m]
Jin: Then I won't be able to hack into the system
[Sent 2:38 p.m]
Y: What!? C'mon, you're one of the best hackers I've seen! You can do anything
[Sent 2:39 p.m]
J: Not what I wanted to hear, I thought you were going to tell me I was the greatest....
[Sent 2:40 p.m]
Y: You're too conceited
[Sent 2:41 p.m]
Jin: I'm going to ignore that... do you still have those little recorder chips?
[Sent 2:41 p.m]
J: If you can get inside, put it somewhere where no one will check
[Sent 2:41 p.m]
Y: Duh. I'll check back in soon, alright?
[Sent 2:41 p.m]
Jin: Good luck
[Sent 2:41 p.m]
Crossing the street slowly, you made sure your head was tilted down as you approached the door. You slipped your hood over your head as soon as you reached the door. Namjoon had mentioned that the door was locked, explaining briefly over the phone that whenever Mari had entered she'd always used a key, as expected. So maybe she had a spare laying around somewhere outside. Like maybe under a pot or something like that.
Bending down cautiously, you searched under the rug positioned on the ground, and smiled cheekily when you spotted a silver key.
Typical normal person, you thought to yourself. You were surprised people even still did that with the crazy amount of crazy people out there looking to break into houses.
But maybe it was just that with the life of a spy, you couldn't afford to leave keys hiding under rugs or plants outside. Sometimes you couldn't even live in the same house for over six months. You had to frequently move, so you wouldn't blow your cover.
At the sound of a door creaking open you stood immediately. Shocked when you saw a young man dashing out of the apartment. You stared at him oddly, confused on who he was.
He didn't even pay any attention to you, and scurried past. But you thought he could maybe help you. Clearly he had to of had a key to the place, because how'd he get in the first time? Namjoon never mentioned him.... which confused you.
Reaching out for the tall mans arm, you gripped it tightly. "Do you live here by any chance?" He stared at you with wide eyes, his porcelain face distracting you as soon as you were able to look at him clearly.
"I'm sorry... I have to go, I'm going to be late" His face was distorted in an uncomfortable way, and he looked to be in a rush.
"Hey, kid!" You called after him as soon as his arm disappeared from your grip. But the brunette paid no mind as he ran down the sidewalk.
It was to late. But the handsome stranger was an important role in finding Mari now.
-
"We're glad you could join us. We've been looking for a makeup artist for weeks" The kind woman in the yellow dress explained, showing her gratitude as she bowed to you. "Of course. I'm happy to help" you put on a kind smile. Apparently she'd been one of TXT's many mangers, she introduced herself as Lani.
Taehyung has informed you that an idol agency, BigHit Entertainment, was looking for a new makeup artist because their last one quit because she became pregnant and had to take care of her other children as well. That's where you stepped in.
You were more than happy to take the job, because that stranger worked here. As some idol, is what Taehyung had informed you when you asked to sweep the database for the stranger you described.
Working as a makeup artist wouldn't be easy, since you've never really played enough with makeup to know how to do someone's. I mean sure, you knew the basics. But you weren't a professional.
Maybe you were a little to cocky, arrogant, and conceited. Maybe a little of all. But it didn't matter. You needed to camouflage into the roll of a makeup artist, like a chameleon.
You couldn't lie though. Now you had an even bigger job. Find out why that boy — Yeonjun, as you'd recently found out — was leaving the apartment Mari frequented. Along with speak with said girl and find where her husband has been hiding out.
"This group TXT... how long have they been around?" You asked curiosity, hoping you weren't raising any suspicion. But the woman just simply smiled. "They debuted a few months ago. I honestly haven't been working with them for long. I was just a part time fill in for our last stylist. But now I'm one of their three managers"
"I see..." You nodded, fallowing after her towards a trailer as she'd explained earlier.
"There are five members. But you'll only be in charge of the eldest two, Soobin and Yeonjun"
Once again nodding in agreement with what the kind lady was saying, she ushered you into a fairly large sized trailer. As soon as you stepped up into the mobile, your eyes landed on two bodies.
They were equally around the same height, but you could see that one was taller by at least a centimeter or so. The two males were also very good looking, and you realized after carefully staring at the pair that one of them was in fact the boy you'd seen previously leaving that apartment.
"Boys, this is your new makeup artist, Y/n," Lani said, short and to the point. "We've decided to split you up based on ages, so Hueningkai, Beomgyu, and Taehyun are all going to be having Jisoo and Taeyeon as their makeup artists,"
"It'll be much easier and faster," Lani reassured the boys. She turned to face you, bowing gently before standing back up straight. "I'll leave you with them for a few hours to get to know them better," Lani stared at Yeonjun and Soobin, before saying, "Boys, maybe you should take Y/n out for lunch. You don't have anything scheduled for today, besides practice in the afternoon"
The two nodded in synch, before both watching silently as Lani exited the trailer. After staring at you for a few seconds, the taller of the two stood to greet you. "I'm Soobin, TXT's leader" You instantly smiled at the boy, who reminded you so much of Jungkook. They both had a similar look, much like a cute bunny rabbit. "I'm Yeonjun" The same boy who you'd seen before spoke up, instantly luring you in. He looked the exact same as he had about a week ago, but much more relaxed and calm.
Months had passed, and you found that this mission was carrying on much longer than you intended or expected it to. You hadn't gotten any leads on Mari, not since Yeonjun told you that he hadn't seen her either. He could've been lying, but you decided to give the sweet boy the benefit of the doubt.
Unbeknownst to the CIA and TXT, you'd grown quite fond of their eldest member who resembled a maknae so much. He was the kindest person, and you were one hundred and ten percent sure that whatever he was doing that day in that apartment, it wasn't anything bad. But that didn't mean you couldn't dismiss what you saw because you had feelings for him. You needed to keep working to find out the truth, because if you couldn't who would? Sure Lee and Namjoon and his guys could, but it was different this time. Yeonjun and the rest of his friends actually trusted you.
Trusting a complete stranger was hard, you knew that especially.
They truly believed you were a makeup artist, they believed you were their friend, and they believed you were just a normal person. But you weren't. In reality, you were just friends with them because you needed the dirt; and you just so happened to fall for one of them.
And it wasn't like you could exactly tell them what was going on. Because at the end of the day, it didn't matter who you fell in love with, your cover could not be blown... It didn't matter if you had to eliminate the ones you loved just to find the culprit.
Because after all, they were just stepping stones to help you reach your end goal.

Missed Classic: Trinity – When Soviet Time-Traveling Robot Armadillos Attack
Written by Joe Pranevich
In Trinity, we traveled to the dawn of the nuclear age and attempted to change history. We failed and became trapped in a time loop with our mischievous roadrunner friend. I suppose there are worse ways to go. In the words of one famous time traveler, “Great Scott!”
But what if the game didn’t end that way? Unlike most of the games we played, this is not just a rhetorical question. Infocom has always had a special place in the hearts of digital archeologists and a level of attention that arguably exceeds their real contribution to computer game history. This is in part thanks to Infocom’s own newsletters, but also the preservation of memos and documents from the company itself. That gives us a view on just about everything from sales performance to standings within the local softball leagues. As recently as 2019, source code was placed online for most of the classic Infocom games. This would be fun all by itself, but in Trinity’s case we are fortunate to have preserved notes on three separate versions of the game, starting from something akin to “Time Police” and ending with the version that we explored together. I had hoped to include this material with the Final Rating, but that post was long enough. Let’s close out our coverage of Trinity with a look at three versions of the game that might have been.
Mirai Sentai Timerenger!
Trinity 0.1 – The Time Police
It all started with a dead bird. A cat proudly deposited the carcass on the doorstep of her owner, a Japanese school teacher who had received enough of these little offerings to recognize something out of the ordinary. She sealed the corpse in a plastic bag and brought it to a biologist at the nearby medical school. The remains were identified as Geococcyx californianus, a species native to the southwest corner of North America. What a roadrunner was doing in the vicinity of Nagasaki’s Heiwa Koen (Peace Park) was anybody’s guess.
The first of the three pitches is undated but likely written sometime in 1985, although it may have been during or after the development of Wishbringer. It shows the game at an embryonic stage, but already elements were coming together that we immediately recognize as the core of Trinity. Nuclear blasts, in addition to all of the damage that we can see, also pierced holes in the fabric of space and time. These holes connected the sites of those blasts in an as-yet unknown way, allowing a New Mexico roadrunner to end up in Nagasaki, whirlpools of coconut-filled boiling water to appear spontaneously over Utah, and many other such events. Scientists discovered and investigated these holes, but the military saw them as being little more than a curiosity. Without military application, who cares if reality is becoming Swiss cheese? That was until a defector revealed that the Soviets had not only discovered the holes, but that they had a plan of their own to use them.
I’ll let Moriarty’s own words describe the next part:
Such were the humble beginnings of Classified Defense Project #43112. Its official code name is Termite. But the people who got it going and keep it running like to call themselves the Time Police.
You play the role of a Sentry on duty at Project Termite’s Alamogordo Station. It’s your duty to monitor the Hole created by the first atomic explosion, and to make sure nobody is in there mucking around with the original Manhattan Project. You wouldn’t want some other country to get The Bomb before we did, would you?
Grand Moff Who?
The pitch continues into a brief description of gameplay. Rather than directly interact with history, you have an “array of technological gadgets” resembling real birds and small mammals that act as your eyes and ears in the past. Your job is to ensure that history (and a very large bomb) go off without a hitch, without being spotted and potentially changing history yourself. On one fateful day, it is your responsibility to defend the United States from a two-fold attack by the Soviet Union. You have to defend both the Trinity site on the morning of the blast as well as “present day” Alamogordo Station. It sounds like a lot of fun, even if it is unclear how you would solve two sets of problems at once.
Back to Moriarty:
Meep, your trusty Electric Roadrunner, has detected an army of stainless steel armadillos closing in on the shot tower at Ground Zero. And there’s something else lurking in that pre-dawn desert; a mysterious Presence that will eventually lock you in a bizarre three-way struggle against time. The future history of the world — perhaps the fate of the universe itself — depends on your courage and resourcefulness. No matter what happens, you MUST make sure that the first atomic bomb detonates precisely on schedule! It is 5:00 AM on July 16, 1945. You have twenty-nine minutes.
I understand why this pitch didn’t get made, but boy does it sound fun. The mix of robotic avatars and having to balance two separate modes of play at once sounds a bit too much like Suspended and A Mind Forever Voyaging, but there is something perfect about the idea of the Soviets using an army of time-traveling robotic armadillos. Would the tone have been jarring against its premise? How much fun can you have in a story about nuclear armageddon? And both of those previous games struggled with balancing the multiple aspects of their gameplay; could Trinity have done better? It is also not clear how many of the “termite holes” you would explore, and Moriarty may not even have worked out those details yet. This pitch represents a great start and could have been a fun– if very different– game if it had come to fruition. I especially like the hard science fiction approach and the structure that being a part of “Time Police” could bring to the story.

“Bridgeport?” Said I. “Camelot,” Said he.”
Trinity 0.5 – Magical Kingdom
The next version of the game, dated September 1985, takes us much closer to the Trinity that we know. The hard science fiction and robotic armadillos are gone, as is the “Time Police”. Instead, the game takes a hard turn into straight up fantasy. The start of the game feels quite similar to the final product: you are an American tourist in London on the day that the bombs fell. You will have to “solv[e] a lighthearted puzzle or two” to escape from London. While the pitch does not say so explicitly, it’s likely that Moriarty had already worked through much of the Kensington Garden experience. When the bomb drops however, the game takes a turn from what we would come to know:
“Inside” the duct, you discover a bizarre fantasy world where space and time are interchanged. The magical inhabitants of this twilight zone are wringing their 4-dimensional hands because our atom bomb tests are blasting big, unsightly holes in their otherwise peaceful universe. The only way to prevent the collapse of the entire kingdom is for some foolhardy adventurer to journey backwards in time to the first A-bomb test at Trinity, and prevent it from going off.
Armed only with the 3-D map of the Hole Matrix provided in the game package, the player ventures through a bewildering variety of exotic locations, solving puzzles, meeting unlikely characters and casting magic spells. But unknown forces are at work to foil your quest, and you soon find yourself caught up in a multidimensional war between two great empires who seek to control the Matrix. It all comes together during a spectacular climax in the New Mexico desert, where you must single-handedly decide the course of history in just 29 minutes of real playing time.
“My name is Peabody. I suppose you know yours.”
The game sounds much more “Zorkian” with exotic locations and magic spells; in fact, I cannot help but wonder if the bombs wouldn’t have opened the door just a smidge to the actual Great Underground Empire. This is all speculation, but Trinity’s internal development code was “Z7”. All of the previous codes (from “Z0” to “Z6”) were for the Zork and Enchanter series, plus Wishbringer, which also took place in the same universe. “Z8” and “Z9” would later be given to Beyond Zork and Zork Zero. Trinity is the only game in that series of codes to not be a Zork game. Why? Could they have been aiming for a more generic fantasy game while using the “Z” code? Absolutely. Could they have left the door open for it being an implicit Zork sequel? Also yes, especially as this version of the pitch suggests that it was to be the first game in a new fantasy trilogy. We don’t know, but it feels like there could be a truth hidden in there someplace.
The “Hole Matrix” hinted at in the description, plus the fantasy kingdom itself, feels like an alternate or early form of the “wabe” from the final game. It seems that you would explore many different areas all connected by the nuclear explosions to solve puzzles. Except for the lack of spells and explicit fantasy elements, most of the zones that we traveled to in the final game could have worked with this pitch. Only the “hub” that connected them, plus the lack of magical solutions, could be different from the game that we know.
The final open question for this version has to do with the endgame: how would a “real-time” ending sequence work? Would touch typists and faster computers automatically have an edge? This must have been a major goal because Moriarty mentions the real-time nature of the ending more than once in his summary, and yet he doesn’t appear to have found a way to make it work. This is also the only version of the pitch to not include the roadrunner; I cannot but think that somehow these two problems are related! Other than being a humorous fantasy (rather than dour magical realism), this game has all of the elements of “our” version of Trinity. The puzzles and worlds may have differed, but this is recognizably the same game.

“My patience is wearing thin. I’m banishing you to a time warp from which you will never return!” – Oroku Saki
Trinity 0.9 – Almost There!
The final draft summary we have is from November 1985 and it is essentially the game that we came to play in digest form. In fact, this is the shortest pitch of the three and is detailed enough that Moriarty must have been fairly far along in his development process. The beginning and middle of the game appear to be exactly as we have played it:
The door transports you to a Zorkish fantasy world, centered around an enormous sundial that casts a long, moving shadow across the landscape. This improbable universe is littered with lots of giant toadstools, each equipped with its own magic door. Whenever the dial’s shadow passes over a toadstool, the magic door opens, and you can visit a “real” historical place where somebody is about to explode an atomic bomb. Locations include an underground test site, a Siberian wilderness, a tropical atoll, a “Star Wars” orbital battlefield and a playground in Hiroshima.
The player has to explore every square inch of the fantasy world, figure out how to control the giant sundial, visit all the magic doors (in the right order) and solve a bunch of interconnected puzzles before he or she can tackle the seventh and final toadstool … the Trinity test.
So far so good. I especially like the nod to my theory that he was explicitly aiming for “Zorkian”, even if not the Great Underground Empire itself. And yet, Moriarty appears not to have cracked the final nut, how he would have run the end-game. This is not the three-way battle with robot armadillos from the earliest version, nor the real-time puzzles of the second, but something wholly different:
The player materializes in the test tower, only twenty-nine minutes before the Gadget is scheduled to detonate. The site is heavily guarded, and danger lurks behind every cactus. If you survive long enough to reach the control bunker, you’ll meet a Who’s Who of famous scientists, all intent on vaporizing your only way home. Can you stop the Bomb from going off? What will happen if you do? And what about those mysterious beings who keep making snide comments in the corners of your video screen? Are you being used?
I love the mystery being implied here, even if it is frustrating that we never got more than sniffs of it in the final version of the game that we played. Who was the mysterious voice in our ear? We never found out and it seems like perhaps Moriarty may have changed his mind about it more than once during development. Alas, we also never saw the “Who’s Who” of famous scientists as the final endgame pivoted back towards the earlier ideal of causing as few ripples in history as possible. In fact, other than listening to humans on the radio, we interacted directly with absolutely no one in the endgame as we played it. There is not one “famous scientist” in there at all!

“Okay, um, how do I explain this concisely? This is Tuesdays… and also July.” “And sometimes, it’s never.”
Moving On
I hope you enjoyed these brief looks at alternate versions of Trinity. I am glad that we were able to experience the final version of the game, but there are many neat ideas presented across these several drafts that would have been fun to experience in some way. Ultimately, the ending of Trinity isn’t perfect. The puzzles are too difficult and too many elements are left unexplained and unresolved. The nature of the time loop doesn’t give us a sense of finality, especially after we looted our own paradoxical corpse. It seems from these documents that while the only aspect of Trinity that did not change from draft to draft was the final confrontation in the desert, the actual mechanics of that endgame experience did not come into focus until late in his design process. I wish we had these documents for more games to give us a basis for comparison, but what we have is a fascinating, if all too brief, window into how the sausage was made.
With this last side avenue explored, I am finally ready to tackle some Leather Goddesses. You can expect a mini-review of that soon.
With the spread of Coronavirus around the world, I want to take this moment to wish for safety and health for all of our readers and their families. Stay well.
