The Story Max Jagerman Never Got to Tell (Silly Goofy things I think about if Max didn't die and had gotten a redemption arc)
So I like to think that he is very slow going at the whole being nice to people thing. Like outside of the main 5 he is still very much the Literal Monster, and even within the main friend group still verbally bullies them he just isn't physically hurting them anymore. As he learns and grows with them, he gets better. First learning to treat his friends on the football team better, and eventually tolerating the other nerds. He still slips up occasionally and says things in the moment that he regrets later, but he's learning to apologize when that happens.
I think once he finds out that the prank was Grace's idea, he is convinced that it was Grace secretly letting him know that she liked him back. He proceeds to start full on courting her: he walks to all her classes, he buys her flowers on special occasions, she even has special privileges to go to the football games (still early on in character development). One day when she goes, he introduces himself to her parents, and the Chastitys make it clear that no one outside of the church can date their daughter. So Max converts. Or at least tries to. He can never grasp his head around all the rules, and by the end of the week, he has decided that it's better if he and Grace are just friends.
At first, he mostly uses Pete as a free tutoring service. He's upset that Pete won't just let him cheat off of him like he did with Steph, but it doesn't even take Max that long to figure out why Steph is different. He makes Pete a deal that he will let him date Steph if Pete cheats for him. Pete talks him down to tutoring with the promise that if it doesn't work, then he will help Max cheat. It turns out that Pete is actually a really good teacher. Max also has certain learning disabilities (I'm gonna go with dyscalculia since we know he's in remedial algebra) that never went addressed since his dad refused to get him tested. Pete is able to show Max techniques that help, and once Max's head no longer hurts from looking at numbers too long, he begrudgingly admits that it's not so bad. Pete also notices that the halls are little quieter before and after Max's math class now.
He never really hung out with Steph that much before. They knew each other and flew in the same circles, but they never really talked before. Max definitely learns how not-okay his dad is by seeing how Steph's dad treats her. As they get closer, he starts getting madder and madder about how the Mayor talks about her. It takes a long time for him to reflect on what he's saying and realizes that his advice works on him too. Him and Steph start bonding over their horrible dads and help each other out when home gets to be a lot.
Ruth is the one that it is the hardest for him to vibe with. While the others he either finds something kinda cool about or can use, Ruth is...Ruth. He doesn't actively bully her anymore, but he doesn't go out of his way to be around her either. He does inadvertently teach her how to be cool though. It's not intentional, but he is less willing to put up with Ruth's whining about how unlovable she is than the others. One day, he starts yelling back to her that maybe if she wasn't constantly complaining about never having anyone around her, then maybe more people would want to be around her. The others call him out for being out of line, but it starts a path for Ruth about learning to be more confident in herself.
I think Richie is the first one to be onboard with the whole 'Max is suddenly chill with us' thing. He's seen enough anime to know a redemption arc when he sees one. He also has a more intense look on Max's growth being around him so much as the mascot. He's the first one to reach out to Max about coming over and watching some anime with him. Max is unsure at first, but Richie convinces him that Attack on Titan actual is really cool and has a lot of blood and guts and fighting in it, so Max agrees as long as Richie doesn't tell anyone what they're doing. Max actually does get really into it, but Richie notices that he seems pay more attention to the "found family" aspects and the character interactions than the fight scenes. He gives Max DVDs that he can watch on his own if he wants: a combination of shows and movies about sports, fighting, and some introspective character pieces as well.
Max also spends the most time at Richie's house than the others. Not necessarily because he prefers Richie, but because Richie has the most chill homelife (the Chastity's still bug him about coming back to church, Steph's dad reminds him to much of home, and Ruth's parents are convinced that he and Ruth are dating. Pete is a close second, but his weird older brother is over a lot, and Max just gets a bad vibe from him). He will just casually pop into Richie's window some nights and say that they are going to watch anime. Richie agrees obviously, but he also wonders what else is going on. It's only after a really personal episode of My Hero Academia that Max lets slip about his dad.
In short, Max Jagerman has so much potential, and it is a shame that he has been doomed by the narrative to never show it.

everything happens for a reason part 17 - zuko x fem!reader
And maybe I don't quite know what to say
part 16 | masterlist | part 18
a/n: finally getting into zuko's redemption arc as well as reuniting yn with sokka!! im so happy bc i really missed writing her with him, their relationship is so special to me. writing 3 chapters straight of prison feels kinda brings the mood down lol so at least its coming back up w/ suki and sokka
this was all gonna be one chapter but it started getting way too long so im splitting it in two. next chapter is their escape from the boiling rock baby !
wc: 6.5k
warning(s): some more angst but a fair amount of fluff as well (yn and sokka reunion!!<3) but mostly angst tbh. yn is very mad at zuko as she should be and sokka kinda gives it to him as well
chapter title comes from 'this is me trying' by taylor swift

“I can’t believe they’re keeping us inside all week,” Suki muttered, dragging the mop across the floor with more irritation than usual. “The only bearable part of this place, and they just take it away.”
“The warden certainly knows how to keep his prisoners miserable,” Y/N said, wiping at a stubborn patch of grease on the side of the wall with a wet cloth.
It had been a few weeks since Y/N had found her new home in the loveliest place in all the Fire Nation, and she was beginning to accept her situation. After what Suki pulled, defending her in front of their entire block, no one had messed with her since. And having Suki by her side in the first place, it made being stuck in the Boiling Rock a lot more bearable. They practically became attached at the hip — they were lucky enough to be in the same block in the first place, so during courtyard time, mandated chores, and any other time they weren’t confined to their cells, Y/N and Suki were always together.
It made a world of difference, having someone like Suki by her side after being on her own for so long. They talked constantly, Suki telling her what it was like to grow up on Kyoshi Island and her subsequent journey as a Kyoshi Warrior, and Y/N revealing the story of her upbringing to somebody else in full for the first time. It was the number one source of her shame, the amount of pain and suffering she’d caused both herself and her mother by trusting Zuko, but Suki offered nothing but support.
One thing, at least, had become clear: they may have gotten into this separately, but they were going to get out of it together.
“I mean, it’s the middle of the summer!” Suki complained, taking her out of her thoughts. “It’s hot outside, but it’s even worse in here. I would kill for some windows.”
Y/N’s eyes suddenly widened, and she looked at Suki. “The middle of the summer— I think I know why we’re stuck inside.”
She frowned. “Why?”
“When I was still with Aang and the rest of the group, we visited this secret underground library with all the knowledge you could ever want. Sokka discovered a Fire Nation secret, some kind of eclipse where all firebending is useless for a short period. It’s called the Day of Black Sun, and,” she lowered her voice, “we were going to invade the Fire Nation that day so Aang could take out the Fire Lord. I think the reason we’re stuck in here is because the eclipse is coming up. It’ll be easier to keep everything together inside than outside, especially if a riot breaks out.”
Suki huffed a laugh as she shook her head. “We’re guarded by a bunch of cowards, then. Can they really be the ‘greatest prison in the Fire Nation’ if they can’t do their job without bending?”
Y/N managed to stifle her laugh just as a guard walked past them, and she ducked her head as she quickly returned to cleaning the walls.
“Is something funny, girl?” His voice was gruff and demanding, but while it would’ve made her cower in her shell when she first arrived here, she had since become skilled in the art of keeping her head low.
“Not at all, sir,” she said, “I apologize for the delay.”
He stared at her for a moment before huffing in approval and walking away, and Suki just rolled her eyes.
“I can’t wait until we’re out of here and we don’t have to grovel at their feet anymore.” She shoved her mop back into the bucket of water and sighed. “Just one good punch to the face of every guard in here before we get out, and I think I’d be satisfied.”
Y/N grinned. “Throw one in there for me and you’ve got a deal.”
“I think I can manage that,” Suki said, smiling as she played along.
She laughed again, the mischievous twinkle in Suki’s eye lightening up the atmosphere effortlessly.
“About this comet though,” Suki said, her expression turning slightly thoughtful, “you’re telling me Sokka’s the one who discovered all of it?”
Y/N smiled knowingly as she turned away from the wall. “Yeah. You should’ve seen him in action, Suki — the whole library was about to collapse underground, a whole “we’re doomed” situation with no way to get both the information we went there for and get out alive. But then Sokka just jumps into action, he figures out when the eclipse is, and we manage to make it out by the skin of our teeth. If it wasn’t for Sokka, I think we would’ve died about… twenty times before I even had the chance to get here.” She elbowed Suki playfully. “He’s pretty smart, right?”
The pink flush to her cheeks faded as Suki turned away, a sheepish smile of her own blooming. “We can talk about that later. What I’m curious about is this: if all the guards don’t have their firebending for a period of time, doesn’t that mean it would be the best time to escape this place?”
“Theoretically, but it would never actually work.” She dipped the rag back into the bucket of water and continued scrubbing at the walls. “We’d never be able to get off the island; the gondola’s the only way out, and we’d be spotted immediately.”
Suki hummed, but Y/N noticed the gleam in her eye. “What are you thinking about?” she asked.
“I’m thinking about an escape route.
Y/N raised her eyebrows. “You’re thinking of an escape route out of the inescapable prison?”
“Obviously.” She turned to Y/N with a smile. “I don’t know how, and it won’t happen this week, but we’re gonna get off of this damn rock. And we’re gonna do it together.”
Suki’s words, somehow still earnest despite everything they’d been through, brought out a smile of her own. “You really think?”
“I know,” she clarified, and she took Y/N’s hand in her own and squeezed hard. “The Fire Nation only got us in our weakest moments. But with the two of us, working together? They won’t know what hit ‘em.”
Y/N bit her lip to hold back her growing amusement, and she nodded as she squeezed back. “Damn right.”
-
“Zuko?”
What had started as his attempt at an introduction quickly went south, and his eyes widened as he held up his hands and took a step backwards. It only took a second for the Avatar and his friends to get into their attack stances, and he gulped. He’d been on the other end of their wrath far too many times to underestimate them.
“I promise, I don’t want any trouble.”
“Then you made a mistake coming here,” Katara retorted, water hovering just above her hands. “What, did you decide you wanted a rematch? I’m happy to help.”
“No!” he exclaimed, taking another step back. Spirits— she was younger than him, how was she so scary? “No, I’m not here to hurt any of you!”
“That’s what you said last time,” she scoffed. “Y’know, before you tried to kill us all?”
“What are you doing here, Zuko?” Aang asked. “How did you even find us?”
“I know it has to be a surprise—”
“Not really,” Sokka muttered.
“—to see me here,” Zuko finished, trying not to let the interruption bother him, “but I swear, it’s for a good reason! I’m— I’m good now, and I think you should let me join your group. I left the Fire Nation, and I’m good now, and I can also teach firebending,” he looked at Aang, “to you.”
Aang’s eyes widened slightly at the consideration but Katara just laughed mirthlessly. “Do you honestly think any of us are stupid to trust you after all you’ve done? We’ll always have another option than you, Zuko. We’ll never be that desperate.”
“Where’s your firebending teacher then?” he asked. “If you have other options, then fine. But I don’t think you have any.”
Katara set her jaw. “We’ll find someone. Anyone but you.”
Aang looked at him for a good, long moment, and Zuko actually grew hopeful for a second, but it was all dashed when he glanced away and shook his head. “There’s no way we can trust you after all you’ve done. You should leave.”
Zuko visibly deflated at Aang’s words. “At least… tell Y/N that I was here. I need her to know I’ve changed.”
The mood noticeably changed at the mention of her, the steeliness to Katara’s eyes and the slight clench of Sokka’s fists the most obvious. They were angry at him, and rightfully so, for what he’d done to her. If only they knew how much turmoil Zuko had gone through over it all.
“She’s not here,” Katara spat. “I figured you would know that, seeing as you’re the one that got her thrown in jail.”
His eyes widened. “What?”
“Are you deaf?” He looked down when he heard the aggressive voice, and was shocked to see it coming from such a small girl. Toph, if he remembered correctly. “She’s not here, and it’s your fault. You should know better than any of us, seeing as she’s still in the Fire Nation.”
“If you cared so much, you should’ve broken her out,” Sokka said bitterly.
“I— I tried,” Zuko insisted, and he was quickly realizing how hard it was going to be to get these people to trust him. “Believe me, I tried to get her out, but when I went to her cell she wasn’t there.
It was somehow still possible as Katara’s glare turned even sharper, and when she took a step forward, he moved back on instinct. “What do you mean, she wasn’t there?”
“She wasn’t there,” he repeated, his eyes slightly wide as he held up his hands. “I— I asked a guard, and he said she was transferred to another prison by my sister, but I haven’t been able to find out where.”
“You know what the Fire Nation does to powerful benders.” Katara’s voice wavered, her blue eyes glimmering with tears. ”How could you let them take her?”
“I tried—” he started, but he didn’t get far.
“You didn’t try at all!” Katara shouted, her voice finally breaking as her hands clenched into fists at her side. “You are the one who did this to her! You are the one who did this to her because she refused to give up on you, and now she could be— she could be dead!”
Katara took a step back as her chest rose and fall with shaky breaths, and the glare she pinned him with was truly murderous. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave and never come back.”
She wiped at the tears streaming down her face and stormed off in the opposite direction, leaving Zuko standing there speechless, unable to do anything but stare with wide eyes.
“Katara!” Aang instantly ran off after her, and Toph took over.
“You heard her,” she said, her blank gaze not meeting his eyes but somehow able to carry the same steeliness in her tone as Katara. “Leave.”
And as she went off after Aang and Katara, Zuko was left with him and a tension that could be cut with a knife.
“I never wanted this to happen,” Zuko whispered.
“It doesn’t matter,” Sokka said coldly. “It still did.”
And he was right.
-
It was… strange, to say the least. Being here, with the Avatar and his friends.
Zuko had only managed to earn himself a spot in the group by near death bravery, but even his fight against the assassin was barely enough to secure it, what with how effortlessly Zuko was able to do the wrong thing in every single situation.
Telling them he sent the assassin after them in the first place, burning Toph’s feet, offering himself up as a prisoner, even just standing too close to Katara— he was constantly on thin ice with all of them, but especially her. Sokka was a frontrunner as well, but it wasn’t really a surprise. He remembered the way Y/N had spoken about them, how close they were — they had every right to hate him, but it still hurt. All he could do was hope to repair it.
And he was trying his hardest to do so. He regained his bending with Aang and the two of them came back stronger than ever in terms of firebending. Toph never really had a grudge against him — even though she ragged on him as much as he deserved for burning her feet — so she was mostly fine with him, and he gave Katara her space. He was going to fix that situation, but after the way she threatened him, Zuko figured a lot of time was needed before he even tried.
As far as Sokka, he didn’t know where he stood with the Water Tribe boy. He knew it would take some time, but what he didn’t know was that this was where he was going to end up not even a day after Sokka asked him about Fire Nation prisons.
“Pretty clouds,” Sokka observed.
On a war balloon. Alone, with only Sokka for company, and a deadly mission ahead of them.
“Yeah… fluffy.”
…It was certainly his most interesting vacation.
Zuko’s head jerked up when Sokka murmured something and his brows creased. “What?”
Sokka glanced up at him, that iciness back once again. “You know this doesn’t mean I like you now.”
“Yeah,” he said. “I… I figured.”
“I’m just doing this with you because you wouldn’t leave me alone and I needed your war balloon.” He crossed his arms and set his jaw. “I haven’t forgiven you for anything that you’ve done.”
“I know,” Zuko sighed, and for a moment the only thing that filled the air was the sound of his firebending. “At least I can help with this.”
“I know how to work a war balloon,” Sokka said, and he rapped his knuckles against the side of the wood. “My friend designed these things. I would’ve figured out how to make the fire if you weren’t here.”
Zuko raised his eyebrows, trying to lighten the mood a bit. “No kidding. One of your friends designed these war balloons?”
Sokka looked up at him, his gaze calculating as if he was trying to gauge the truth of his interest.
“Yeah,” he said eventually. “I helped him polish it up, figure out how to control the hot air. It’s just a balloon, but for war.”
“Well, If there’s one thing my dad’s good at, it’s war,” Zuko muttered.
“Yeah, it seems to run in the family.”
Zuko frowned and his tone turned defensive. “Hey, hold on. Not everyone in my family is like that.”
“I know, I know.” Sokka gestured with his hand. “You’ve changed.”
“I meant my uncle,” Zuko said. “He was more of a father to me, and I really let him down.”
“Well… I think your uncle would be proud of you.” Sokka crossed his arms yet again and he looked out at the sky, not wanting to meet Zuko’s eyes as he actually said something nice.  “Leaving your home to come help us? That’s hard.”
“It wasn’t that hard.”
“Really? You didn’t leave anyone behind you cared about?”
Zuko shrugged. “There was one girl, Mai. We were dating, but… it felt more like something forged out of expectations rather than love. It felt like we were putting on a front for the approval of our parents rather than being together for ourselves. I still care about her as a friend, though. Enough that I didn’t want to get her caught up in this mess.”
“And…” he swallowed the lump in his throat as his expression turned downcast. “There was Y/N. She was— she still is— the only girl I’ve ever loved, the way I love her. Ever since I was a child. But I ruined anything we could’ve possibly had together, and now… now, I have no idea where she is, and wherever she is, she hates me.”
Sokka hummed. “She has every right to.”
Zuko glared at him. “You’re really not good at this making people feel better thing.”
“I’m not trying to make you feel better,” he said. “I know you’re trying to become a good guy or whatever, but you deserve to feel bad for what you did. For a pretty long time, too.”
Zuko braced his hand against his forehead as he turned away. “I know. I just can’t stop thinking about her— about how I treated her, and that the last thing I said to her was that…”
He trailed off, and Sokka raised his eyebrows. “What?”
Zuko sighed again and let his hands hang off the side of the boat. “I said that I never loved her.”
“Tui’s gills, man!” Sokka exclaimed. “Yeah, of course she’s gonna hate you for saying something like that. Geez, you go all in when you’re upset, huh?”
“I didn’t mean it!” Zuko defended as he whirled around. “I— I was just angry at everything, and I wanted to forget her, and I thought that if I said it then it would become true and I would finally be able to move on. But,” he heaved a weary sigh as he sat down, his gaze downcast, “I don’t want to move on. I just want to see her again and apologize for everything. I don’t know if it’ll ever be enough, but I have to try.”
The silence weighed heavily between them yet again, with Zuko staring at the ground and Sokka’s gaze softening ever so slightly as he looked at him.
“I think you still have a chance,” he said, and Zuko’s eyes widened slightly.
“What?”
“I think you still have a chance,” he repeated. “As much as I hate to say it, Y/N cared about you. A lot. Like, she talked about you constantly when we were all together, a lot. It was honestly kind of annoying.”
“So what’s your point?” he grumbled.
Sokka sighed. “My point is that you two had a bond— the kind of bond where she risked everything just because of how she felt about you. That kind of bond… it doesn’t just go away.”
“Do you think she’ll even care?” Zuko asked. “After all I’ve done, how can you know she’ll even want to listen to me? How do you know I haven’t completely lost her?”
Sokka was quiet for a moment before he asked a single question. “Do you still love her?”
Zuko answered without hesitation. “With all my heart.”
“Then there’s still time. You haven’t lost her yet.”
He gave him a rare smile and nodded. “Thanks, Sokka. That actually helped.”
He shrugged and looked away. “I mean, it could always be worse. My first girlfriend turned into the moon.”
“…That’s rough, buddy.”
-
Their mission was going about as well as one would think. They had crashed their war balloon leaving them with no way out, nearly gotten discovered seconds after stealing uniforms, and got caught up in a fight in the courtyard, but in the scheme of things they were still on track.
After dropping off a prisoner they had reunited on one of the balconies overlooking the courtyard, where Sokka was diligently scanning the entire field for any sign of his father.
“Sokka,” Zuko whispered, managing to grab his attention. “Listen, I asked around the lounge, and they said that there’s one Water Tribe prisoner here — a waterbender transferred here personally by my sister. Does that sound like it could be your dad?”
He shook his head anxiously. “No, my dad’s not a waterbender. Are— are you sure that’s the only one? Did you double-check?”
“Yeah,” Zuko confirmed. “I’m sure.”
“No,” Sokka muttered, turning away dejectedly. He banged his fists against the wall out of anger. “No! We came all this way for nothing. I failed again.”
“Um, what would Uncle say?” Zuko thought aloud as he stroked his chin. “Sometimes, clouds have two sides; a dark and a light, and a silver lining in between. So… when life seems hard, take a bite out of the silver sandwich!”
Sokka looked wholly disinterested during his whole monologue, but when he directed his gaze back to the courtyard he gasped, his grip tightening on the railing. “Maybe we haven’t failed after all.”
“That’s the spirit!” Zuko grinned. “I can’t believe that worked; I didn’t even know what I was saying.”
“No, what you said made no sense at all— but look!”
Zuko craned his head to see where Sokka was pointing and his eyes widened when he saw what was talking about it.
It was her.
Standing slightly off to the side idly chatting with another girl, a little worse for wear with a black eye, but alive.
“She’s here,” Zuko muttered, equal parts awestruck, relieved, and terrified.
“Y/N is the waterbender you heard about! And do you see who she’s with?” Sokka questioned excitedly. “She’s with Suki! Our girls are here, Zuko. They’re okay!”
As Sokka started to spout off his plan, Zuko listened dimly, unable to take his eyes off of Y/N.
Her eye looked like it was healing, but he gauged that at its initial stage it was something nasty. Seeing her in the red prison jumpsuit was strange — he wondered why she had been transferred here instead of somewhere more resistant to waterbenders, but he pushed logic aside and allowed himself to revel in the temporary relief.
She was here, and she was alive.
Zuko could only hope she was willing to try again with him.
-
Y/N heaved another sigh as she rolled onto her back, unable to get comfortable on the slab she called a bed. It was near impossible to fall asleep without the familiar presence of her friends; the soft sounds of their breaths, just the knowledge that they were there with her, was something sorely missed during her prison days. It didn’t help that her cell had been modified to constantly be pumping in dry air so she couldn’t bend — it was a constant reminder of what she lacked, but she suspected it was just in case it magically came back.
Princess Azula truly despised her.
She sat up and rubbed her eyes, resigning herself to the fact that sleep wasn’t going to come, when her cell door was pushed open. As a guard stepped in, every one of her senses flared up in alert and she immediately darted up from her bed. This couldn’t be anything good.
“I didn’t do anything,” Y/N declared immediately, her voice carrying a bitter edge. She angled herself in such a way that if he did try something, she would hold the advantage. “Nothing that Pao says is ever true, and if you lay a hand on me—”
“What? No, I—“ He paused, and she swore she knew his voice. “Y/N, it’s me!” The guard took off his mask, and she felt her heart stop.
“Zuko?” She hated the way his appearance sent that familiar flutter through her chest but she forced her feelings down, instead focusing on the venom coursing through her veins.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Zuko winced at her harsh tone, his momentarily smile gone as quickly as it appeared. “Spirits, I can’t even get away from you in prison— what, did you come here to gloat?”
“No!” he exclaimed, raising his hands in an effort at placation. “Why would I do that?”
“Oh, I don’t know!” By now she was yelling, unable to contain her rage. “I guess anything is possible with the guy who completely betrayed me!”
“Y/N, quiet down!” he cautioned, casting an instinctive glance to the door. “Someone is going to hear you!”
“Oh?” By now her eyes were blazing, and she raised her arms up as if to challenge him. “Well, maybe I should just get even louder! Think everyone can hear me yet?”
“What are you doing?!” Zuko hissed, heat beginning to emanate off of him as his eyes darted back to the door once more.
“GUAR—“ she began to shout but Zuko lunged forward and clamped his hand over her mouth, an action that confused her into cooperation.
“We’re here to get you out!” he whispered frantically. “Now will you please calm down?”
The fire in her eyes died down slightly but she still batted his hand away and stood a step back. “‘We’?”
“Sokka and I.”
“You brought Sokka here?” she accused before mentally backing up. “Wait, how are you even with Sokka in the first place?”
“No— spirits, could you let me explain before you get on my case?” He took her silence as a sign to continue. “I left the Fire Nation, and Aang accepted me as his firebending teacher. Sokka thinks his dad is in here because he got captured during the invasion, so he wanted to come here to try and break him out. I came with him because I didn’t want him going on a suicide mission. We haven’t been able to find him, but we did find you and Suki. Sokka’s guarding the door right now while we talk, then we’re gonna find her and talk her through the plan as well.”
“If Sokka’s out there, why am I not talking to him?” She crossed her arms and Zuko sighed, averting eye contact.
“Because I wanted to talk to you,” he admitted quietly. “Y/N, no amount of apologies will be able to get across how sorry I am for what I did to you. There are so many horrible things that I’ve done, but I’ll never forgive myself for hurting you. I will spend the rest of my life regretting what I did to you. I—” he swallowed the lump in his throat, “I still love you. I never stopped loving you. And I’m so, so sorry that I ever made you think differently.”
Her fingers unconsciously found their way to the small scar on her forearm and her gaze turned downcast.
How long had she waited to hear those words from him? How many times, on her journey through the Earth Kingdom to the Northern Tribe, had she imagined him saying those words to her? Spirits, at some of her lowest points, the thought of seeing him again, the thought of hearing those words, was the only thing that got her up and moving again.
And here she was, four years later. Zuko standing in front of her, baring his heart for the first time since they were children. Saying that he loved her, that he had always loved her.
But despite his earnesty, Y/N could only think of what happened in the catacombs. What happened in the Fire Nation.
Why she was here in the first place. The things he said to her.
Y/N swallowed thickly as she took a step back, her arms wrapping tightly around her midsection. “Send Sokka in right now, or I will call the guards.” Her voice had lost all the fierceness it possessed moments ago, her words instead carved in a cold, unforgiving anger.
“Y/N—”
“Now.”
With one last desperate glance back at her, Zuko obeyed her wishes, closing the door quietly behind him where he met a concerned Sokka.
“That didn’t sound like it went well.”
Zuko shook his head, his attempt at stoicism failing as he took his place at the wall. “She won’t listen to me. She wants to talk to you, but we have to make it quick so we can make it to Suki before we get caught.”
Sokka swallowed and nodded, trying to prepare himself to go in. He was overjoyed that she was alive within their reach, obviously, but he had a feeling it would hurt a lot more to see what the past couple months at the mercy of the Fire Nation had done to her.
“It’s okay,” Zuko murmured, noticing his apprehension. “She’ll be happy to see you. I know it.”
Sokka nodded once more, and before he could question himself he pushed open the cell door and walked in.
Her eyes flicked up from the ground, her arms falling from their protective positions as a relieved smile tugged at her lips.
“You really are here,” he whispered, his voice a mix of disbelief and pure happiness. “You’re—”
He wasn’t granted the chance to finish his sentence as she tore across the room and enveloped him in the tightest hug possible. Though it got a grunt out of Sokka, he immediately reciprocated, wrapping his arms around her with the same vigor.
“I’m so happy you’re okay,” she whispered, tears brimming in her eyes. “But this is the stupidest thing that you have ever done.”
Sokka laughed as he squeezed her tighter, and she had almost forgotten how much she missed that dumb little laugh after every bad joke he made, and the way that he always hugged her a little too tight.
(She didn’t think that would be a problem anymore — Sokka’s hugs always felt like a safety blanket, but now she felt like she could cry with how needed that comfort was. She was pretty sure she would annoy him, hugging him over every little thing, just to make sure she never forgot that feeling.)
“I can’t believe you’re here,” he muttered, taking a step back to look over her with concerned eyes. “Are you okay? What happened to your eye?”
“Neither can I,” she chuckled mirthlessly. “I’m as good as I can be, I guess. Still alive, which is all I can really ask for here.” She gestured to her eye lazily and sighed. “Let’s just say that people here don’t take too kindly to outsiders, especially when they work with the Avatar.”
“I’m so sorry that this happened to you,” Sokka said quietly. “I— I wish that I had been down there that night. Maybe you wouldn’t have gotten caught up in this whole mess.”
“It’s not your fault, Sokka. You can’t blame yourself for something you weren’t involved in.” She smiled weakly. “And besides, I’m still here. I’m okay.”
“Of course you are.” Sokka’s hands hovered over her shoulders, like he didn’t know how fragile she was. Like if he even looked at her the wrong way, she would break like glass. “The Fire Nation’s never been able to take you down.”
“I mean… I am in an inescapable Fire Nation prison. I think they got me there,” she said dryly.
Sokka snapped his fingers and took a step back. “Right! Except it’s not inescapable, because we’re gonna bust you out of here..”
“You— you are?” she asked, surprised. “How long have you been here?”
He shrugged. “Half a day, give or take.”
And for some reason, that was the thing that got her. Her eyes filled with tears and she pulled him back into a hug so tight she was sure he couldn’t breathe, but right now Y/N didn’t really care.
“I missed you so much,” she whispered, a watery laugh breaking through.
“I missed you too,” he said back, just as softly, and she didn’t even have to look at him to know he was on the brink of tears as well. “Azula— she used you against me. I thought you were dead, Y/N. I don’t know what I would’ve done if she… if it was true.”
She frowned as she pulled away. “She used— what do you mean?”
Sokka swallowed thickly. “She said you were a prisoner. That— that you were tortured, and through it all you called out my name. Like I should’ve been there, and— and I should have. I should have been there to protect you, but I wasn’t, and now you’ve been through all of this…”
Sokka shook his head again. “I am so sorry, Y/N. I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”
She smiled and laughed, a bit breathless. “No complaints here.”
“But I have been wondering,” Sokka said suddenly, “why did Azula put you here? It’s either really cocky or really stupid to put a waterbender in a prison surrounded by water, no matter how many guards there are. Have you tried to escape yourself?”
Y/N’s expression sobered and she turned away a bit. Her bending was still the sorest of subjects — every day, when she would be out in the courtyard, she would feel even more useless about not being able to do anything but stare out at the water.
“It’s… it’s gone.” She saw Sokka’s eyes widen out of her peripherals and she wrapped her arms around her midsection. “My bending is gone, and Azula put me here as one last way to rub salt in the wound that keeps growing.”
“What?” There was real concern in both his gaze and his voice, but Y/N couldn’t even stand to look at him. Not when she was incapable of even the most basic things. “Your bending— it’s gone?”
“I don’t know,” she said with a mirthless chuckle. “I— I don’t know. It happened after I was imprisoned in the Fire Nation— maybe it’s because I’m so weak, or maybe it’s because I haven’t practiced it in so long, or maybe it’s a million other things, but all I do know is that I can’t bend anything. So I can’t help you with that.”
“Y/N.” Sokka reached for her hand and she let him take it, a comforting warmth in it. “Zuko… he lost his bending when he first joined us. I know you don’t want anything to do with him, but maybe he could help you get it back.”
She scoffed as she pulled her hand away. “Sokka, I’d rather lose my bending forever than work with him. I don’t want to be around him— not after what he did.”
He sighed and gave her a look that could only be described as brotherly, the same one he gave Katara whenever she wanted to do something stupid.
“You’re hurting, Y/N, I know. And— and you’re allowed to be angry, and to hate Zuko, and to want absolutely nothing to do with him, but I won’t let you hurt yourself because of it.” At her silence, Sokka continued. “You need to get out of here, and you need to get your bending back. You’re gonna have to work with Zuko to do both of those things, and then you can go back to hating him. But just— hold out for a few more days.”
“He burned me in the catacombs,” Y/N whispered, and she held out her arm for him to see the scar from the attack. “He burned me just to get the upper hand, just like he did in the Earth Kingdom. I’m in here because of him. I’ve never mattered to him, not if he could just throw me away like this. So why should I give him even a second of my time?”
“Because hurting yourself will do nothing for you,” he said decisively. “If you want to get back at Zuko, then you have to get out of here first. And as much as I hate to say it…” Sokka sighed and shook his head, “my plan won’t work without him. So let him help me get you and Suki out of here, figure out a way to get your bending back, and then you can bring down all your fury on him.”
She glanced away, her gaze pointed towards the floor for a good long moment before she finally spoke.
“You really have a way to get out of here?”
Sokka nodded. “I just need maybe a little longer to work out the kinks, but it’ll be solid. It’ll get us all out of here; the two of us and you and Suki.”
Y/N sighed and looked back at Sokka. “Okay. I’ll work with him to get out of here, but nothing more.”
“I’m not asking you for anything more,” Sokka said. But then he smiled, and he chuckled a bit. “It’s so good to see you again. It’s… it’s been hard without you.”
She frowned. “Really?”
“Yeah,” he nodded. “It’s really taken a toll on Katara. She blames herself for what happened because she was down in the catacombs with you.” His voice got quieter. “We both do.”
“It’s not either of your faults,” she said. “It’s the Fire Nation’s fault. It’s Zuko’s fault.”
“I’m just glad we found you,” he said. “You and Suki.” Sokka smiled a bit. “Has she been keeping you on track?”
Y/N laughed. “I’d say so. She’s the reason this,” she pointed at her eye, “isn’t a whole lot worse. I owe a lot to her.”
“We’re gonna get you both out of here,” he said again. “And as much as I don’t want to leave—”
“You have to,” she nodded. “Go talk to her. I’ll be okay. I don’t really have anywhere else to go.”
Sokka chuckled again and nodded. “I know.”
He pulled Y/N into one last hug before he left, and she caught a glimpse of Zuko on the other side as Sokka closed the door softly behind himself.
Her cell felt a lot quieter, lonelier, colder without Sokka. She knew he would be coming back, but she missed him already. She’d always hated being alone, but it hurt more now than ever before.
But it gave her the chance to let her walls down. She collapsed onto her bed as the tears quietly wracked her body, forcing herself to stay silent as they trailed down her face. It was one thing to be heard yelling, it was another thing to be seen showing this much weakness.
Weeks, months of pent up emotions began to show themselves, greedy after finally being granted an outlet. Seeing Sokka on its own was emotional enough, but Zuko was a whole different situation.
Y/N thought that finally getting to yell at him would’ve made her feel better in some way, but it only succeeded in making it all worse. She didn’t feel happy, cleansed, righteous.
She felt nothing.
The hours blended together until the wells in her eyes ran dry, and somewhere along the path she managed to fall into a restless sleep. Some part of her was angry that he hadn’t fought back the way she did, that he hadn’t yelled back — she wanted something physical to hold against him, something to make it easier to hate him than the abstract betrayal. Maybe that was stupid. It was even more stupid of him to think he had any chance of a civil conversation with her after what he did.
Maybe she would have to work with him to get out of this place, band together under a temporary truce in order to officially cleanse herself of the prisoner brand. She could put herself through that if the reward at the end of it all was getting her life back.
But not anything more.
Y/N had vowed to never let Zuko in again.
And she never broke her vows.

MY JWCC S5 REVIEW ♡ SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
》 you have been warned ⚠️
》 to start off, WHAT A RIDE THIS SEASON WAS!!! theres lots of opinions, like the finale pacing etc, but tbh; with 12 episodes i think they did pretty well ending the show with the time they had! to me personally it didnt feel rushed at all, i actually wanted everything to pick up the pace so the kids could be happy and safe again 😭 with that out of the way, lets get to it!
》story & mr.kon
- s5 continues off right from the end of the previous season, where the camp fam meet Mr. Daniel Kon, Kenji's father!!!
- right off the bat mr.kon seems pretty trusting and relieved to see his son, but theres still hesitancy to trust him from the kids and quite frankly, the fandom as well. the kids out kash on all of his BS and mrkon rightfully so punishes him, and gets the kids to safety with food and SHOWERSSSS YESSSSS THEY CAN FINALLY SHOWER!! (kenji shaved and also brooklyn redyed her hair idk how) but at what cost.... its just too good to be true! ep1 is pretty tame, it gives the kids a break FINALLY and mae gets patched up!
- the story from then on goes to the kids doing their thing, sussing mr.kon out, rightfully so, while being torn on breaking kenjis heart abt the truth abt his dad and saving dinos, usual jwcc shenanigans ensue.
- I THINK MRKON WAS WELL DONE. his manipulation game is off the charts and he knows how to act fr, the way he can flip sides when hearing things he does not like in a second, he does it to kenji too. and hes not unhinged like kash, mr.kon IS the mastermind, hes very smart and knows how to manipulate kenji— its so heart breaking. in my s5 predictions post i said it could go two ways; mr.kon as an ally to the kids against kash, or mr.kon being the real enemy. LOOKS LIKE THE LATTER...
- my only gripe is i wish they showed more abt how mr.kon got this way— like was it the mothers death, or is it a trait that got passed down by his own father, or is it just simply greed?? who knows. its never really answered if he does care for his son or not? to me i think it was just convenient at the time for kenji to be around— i didnt see any signs mrkon ever showed affection for kenji when it didnt benefit him 😭😭 which is DEVASTATING. mrkon was out of the parenthood game fr...
- as usual, all the adults die fr but theyre badguys and death-by-dino is sick asf so i love it! EVEN KASH GOT GOT and that was sooo satisfying. mae was safe tho and as she should!!
- ok so apart of me really wanted mr.kon to get a redemption arc or smth— like a bigger bad makes him ally with the kids and he really bonds with kenji.. but then kash dies so im like "WELL there goes that possibility" and then i had hope for the investors to turn on mr.kon— nope they all died except for the lady IN WHICH the antagonist from jw:dominion comes in (the guy who runs biosyn i forgot his name) but then obv cant be possible bc they cant kill him off since he has to appear in his own movie... IN THE END, no redemption for mr.kon and fine. thats fine im fine.
- OK ill be honest MR.KON IS KINDA.. BAD OK? LIKE.. 😳 HELP  IM SORRYYYY its just the way he grabbed kash by his the back of his neck and was "go back to whatever hole u came from" IT MADE ME FEEL SMTH A LITTLE OK.. he lookin for a stepmom for kenji or... 🤭.... IM SORRY HES AN ATTRACTIVE SINGLE DAD ALSO A VILLAIN, WHAT DO U WANT FROM ME 😭😭 i was taking notes while watching the season and if you see them its just me simping for mr.kon HELp
- ok ANYWAY the fact that he was legit willing to let the kids die and even LET DARIUS GET KILLED in front of kenji i knew... it was over..
- final confrontation between kenji and mrkon was sad😭 HE LEGIT JUST LEFT HIS SON ON AN ISLAND THAT HE BELIEVED WAS GONNA GO TO SHIT... apart of me wants to be like "oh he probably thought kenji was better off with them" but its pretty much apparent ig that he does not give a shit abt kenji— which is why i wish theyd spent some time showing kenjis history w/him bc we know mrkon was not present most of his life, but there SEEMED to be something more. oh well. bye bye mrkon!! AND HE GETS ARRESTED OFFSCREEN TOO, which is just sad for kenji 😭
- THE LAST EPISODE is absolutely my favorite and the ENDING is amazing ill tell u why in a sec just u wait!!
》kenji vs campfam
- ill say it again KENJI IN A SUIT AND BETRAYAL I FORSEENT ITTTTT
- to start off I THINK BOTH SIDES HAD THEIR FAULTS AND RIGHTS BUT ohh my godd kenji deserved a break ok.. i may be biased bc he is my favorite son
- IT WAS SO OBVIOUS HE WAS MANIPULATED and has daddy issues, and im so glad brooklyn saw that. I WAS PISSED that no one else did, like ur telling me ben and yas couldnt see it? i think they were a bit dramatic on their hatred for kenji but ig its understandable bc out of everyone they arent that close w/ him....  BUT STILL. messy.
- I WAS SO PISSED AT SAMMY AT FIRST FOR BEING INDECISIVE bc shes torn between her bestie kenji, and her other besties+yasmina. tho i do believe she never blamed kenji by the way their reunion went (she was just happy he was back w/them) so ill give her a pass.
- IM CONFLICTED ABT DARIUS bc i thought originally he was just too heartbroken abt kenji yet hes not used to talking abt his feelings hence needing the dinosaur interaction. but he just said he didnt care??? like bro... why r u lyin.
- darius at least shouldve stepped up a little bc other than brooklyn, he knows kenji had issues with his dad... oh well.. dino lovers are crazzzzy
- im at least glad he was the one who stayed mad at kenji for the longest #payback my broken boys... BUT it paid off when darius forgave kenji THEY BOTH CRIED?! i cried. it was so sweet and idc if anyone thinks "kenji was forgiven too early and it was rushed", bc truth is hes a kid with dad issues and the others are kids and they are family and they! need! each other!!
》yasammy (& kenlynn)
- CAN I JUST SAY LETS TAKE THIS W YASAMMY FANSS YESSSSSSSSS  also BISEXUAL YAS RIGHTS?!?! sammy is the lesbian this is so true
- yasminas whole crush arc was just adorable and so fitting for her to open up to ben 😭 bc ben is like so chill right
- i like how they didnt make it a big deal, it was just abt yasmina figuring herself out and when she made her move, IT WAS REWARDING!! i screamed at the kiss... they r so adorable.. silly gfs 💖
- im so glad they didnt shy away from shoving it in our faces bc THOSE GIRLS DESERVE ITTTT FRRR,, THE KISS!!! THE KISSSSSSSSS
- as equally cute as kenlynn, they both have equal screentime which was a blessing!
- kenlynn pained me so bad when brooklyn was broken abt kenji 😭 its what i love, angst, but gdi i wish she held on a little longer but understandble bc kenji was kinda wack himself for staying with his dad that long...
- THE DATE THING WAS SO CUTE KENJI IS SO SOFT, ,HIS SUIT AND THE FLOWER.. I SCREAMED!!
- AND YET IT WAS HEARTBREAKING...he got stood up... smh... its fine.. it all got healed when he gave her the flower fr <3
- THE LAST EP KISS... i cried and threw up i love my kids... HOW COULD U HATE THEM THEYRE SO SOFT AND SWEET im holding them both in my arms 💖💖
》timeskip
- THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST PART. WHEN OLDER DARIUS SHOWED ON THE SCREAM I YELLED (INAUDIBLY BC IT WAS 4AM)
- THIS IS LEGIT ALL I WANTED, A TIMESKIP TO END THE SHOW (u can see my previous posts i mention this shit a lot and i even have my own au and older designs for them..)
- YASAMMY IN TEXAS THIS IS SO TRUE.. STAY SAFE GFS... im so mad sammy didnt change her clothes HELP shes still wearing thay goddamn shirt and has similar length hair but its fine yasmina being gorgeous made up for it 👍
- KENLYNN GOIN STRONG longdistance relationship goals, i love their designs so much😭😭 kenji w/his hair down AND brooklyn short hair?!?! short haired women rights its all i wanted 💃
- in my timeskip au i had darius work with dinos back on the island but its more fitting that ben has that role (working w/mae) which is so adorable...
- IM GLAD I PREDICTED BENRIUS WOULDNT HAPPEN bc theyre too innocent and busy being dino obsessed obv!! we didnt get timeskip benrius but theres still hope 😌 theyre just both aro-ace theyll work smth out..
- they fact they keep in touch is so sweet HELPP in my au they all drifted apart 💀 it was for the angst im sorry
- KENJI GETS ADOPTED INTO THE BOWMAN FAMILY SO TRUE... its so sad that with no mom or dad (jail) hes p much an orphan but at least he got darius,, it was so sweet when the mom hugged him at the mainland reunion 🥲 ALSO KENJI STILL OWNS MANTAH CORP?? OR SMTH LIKE IT BC ITS MENTIONED HES KEEPING THE PRIVATE ISLAND RUNNING so mae n ben can work there... SO TRUE
- LETS TALK AGES:
ok so from my research since the show goes alone the movies timeline, s1 takes place in 2015!! fallen kingdom is 3yrs after, and dominion (which i assume begins when darius sees the dinosaur outside his house) is 4 years later making the year 2022.
》so its like jwcc s1 age/ fallen kingdom(s5 timeskip) age/ dominion age
• darius: 12/15/19
• brooklyn: 13/16/20
• ben: 14/17/21
• sammy: 14/17/21
• yasmina: 15/18/22
• kenji: 15/18/22
- me sobbing.. they grew up so fast.. i love my kids... my age theory also may be sooo wrong but it makes more sense if theyre all in their 20s by the end! livin the adult life #goodluck
》final thoughts and thanks
- THIS SHOW IS LEGIT THE BEST AND A GODDAMN BREATH OF FRESH AIR COMPARED TO OTHER SHOWS coughMLBcough what who said that 🤨😳🤭
- from s1 to the end i never got tired of it or it never swayed from my interests, i drew fanart so quick, more than ive done for a lot of other fandoms i was in 😭💖
- i wouldnt mind a sequel with the older camp fam, but if its thats it thats okay too!! lets not get greedy guys...
- EXPECT GIFSETS AND FANART IN THE FUTURE!! my life is so busy crazy rn but i will make time for jwcc shit if its the last thing i do!!!
- lastly, thank you for joining me on this ride! jwcc brought me lots of new tumblr followers which was a surprise! 💖
i know somehow toxicity will find its way to this season, but what else would i expect LMAO idc i will fight with all ive got as usual 😉
- lets all take this W fr, this show was so good. also, sorry for any spelling and grammar errors in the review!

Ok now that I’m caught up with RWD s4e7,
(KINDA SPOILERY CHARACTER TALK INCOMING)
I feel like Kyana is rapidly becoming that thing that’s like,
“Oh yeah, everyone deserves grace and space to make mistakes and improve from them!
Not me though!! Obviously haha
If I make a mistake I deserve to self-destruct as hard as possible no matter how much it’ll hurt my friends, to atone :)”
Very religious trauma there which fits with the monk part, though I think the thing I’m thinking of with sin and redemption is kind of a Catholic thing? Maybe? I’m Shinto/Buddhist I don’t know shit about that other than pop culture Christianity lol (Also I know Red’s Jewish so probably weird. Again I don’t know shit about this or her personal views though so I’m gonna stop talking about it)
Not that she hasn’t dealt with guilt and assuming the “it’s all my fault” all or nothing attitude before, but definitely prominent in this ep lol
Red has described Kyana’s actions as selfish before (leaving the monastery and specifically Aioni) (am I spelling that right I’m too lazy to look it up rn Austin I hope you haven’t fucked me with your interesting spelling decisions here /j) and I think her desire to hurt the Nautiloid ship somehow instead of fleeing when they had the chance is also a very selfish action that comes from a place of guilt and martyrdom
And I’m pretty sure it’s going to lead to tension with everyone probably but Dani specifically later, which’ll be juicy drama but also incredibly painful lol
ESPECIALLY if one of them dies in the attempt >_>
Good god imagine if Dani dies for good while fighting the master brain or whatever and then Kyana has to later come to terms with the fact that her desire to get out her frustration over being stunned (which I think is the main and most immediate motivator here) for most of the combat led directly to one of her friends dying
I don’t think she’d handle that well and if anything would probably reinforce her guilt complex and need to self sacrifice. Could head into a Kyana Batman dark solo arc 😂
If
Idk what the spell slot situation is but if I were Dani or VRLA I’d definitely have grabbed her and tried to teleport out somehow (even though I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t work bc of the willing creature clause)
Anyway, just to say, I’m not criticizing Red or Kyana’s decisions at all! Just rambling about my feelings on it bc it’s one of the first major decisions that Kyana has made that I personally deeply disagree with and think is coming from a reeeaallly bad character-flaw-driven place
Which is narratively super interesting! I’m just stressed about the consequences lol

Hi, and happy blorbo blursday! (as usual I am @writeblr-of-my-own).  I am back and ready to get in the game! For today's question, imagine your characters were in a cartoon TV show (such as Total Drama, Adventure Time, Kim Possible etc). What would their signature outfit be? The one they will never change for the duration of the season, possibly of the whole show? What would be one bit they keep doing or their signature sentence?
Happy blorbo blursday!!
This would be very interesting to answer for B&W because all the characters have their circus outfits, so I'm not gonna do that bc it's boring.
In the dystopia WIP, I've always had a very clear image of what Cristover, Nester and Alexis's outfits look like. Especially Alexis. Their outfit appeared 100% complete in my brain and I never changed it bc it was perfect.
I once did character sheets for all the characters and, while none of them is fully coloured, most of them had a little sketch just to kinda study colours and shapes. And this was Alexis:
Tumblr media
Some of the colours are kinda off and the yellow is supposed to be gold but this is the general idea. They're a ridiculously wealthy swordmaster living a life of hedonism and I think this really captures that vibe, especially when you add their facial expressions. They also always have amazing black and gold graphic-ish eyeliner.
Their outfit changes slightly throughout the story to include more red, to represent how they fall deeper and deeper in love with Veera and how this love gradually distances them from their old life (red is Veera's colour, her outfit also gains more gold elements).
If they had to keep the sane outfit throughout the whole "show", I have decided they would only change their outfit once. When they find out that Veera was secretly sent to assassinate them and is probably not even in love with them (she is), we see them venture out of their property for the first time. In this scene they're wearing nothing but red, no gold to be seen - they're not even wearing eyeliner.
Ok, to put this in simple terms, Alexis very vaguely represents "the rich" (together with Nester, the only other character who's main colour is a metallic tone), and Veera represents "the people", since she's the kinda-leader of the common people's revolt. In this scene, Alexis finally leaves their house (the bubble in which the wealthy live, out of touch with the world) and finds their way to a poorer part of Silver City (where Veera is from, they specifically find their way to the building the revolutionaries are using as headquarters) to finally see the real world and learn about Veera's cause. This kickstarts a redemption arc btw.
The colour-switching in a character duo also happens with Cris and Nester, but it means a very different thing and I've already written too much.
Anyway, here are some of the sketches for the other characters:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are, in this order: Vi, Veo, Veta, and Veera. Veera's design has changed a bit since this was made, but the general shapes and colours are still correct.
As for bits that keep showing up, I guess it would be that everyone struggles to pronounce Vi's full name because of how long it is (it's Anastavius Greterssen). It's not even that hard, but he always pronounces it with his native accent (which is kinda nordic-sounding) and always writes it out in his native language's alphabet, which the other characters can't read. The only time anyone ever saw his name in the "normal" alphabet was his and Veta's marriage certificate, which they lost when they got exiled.

just finished episodes 3 and 4 like five minutes ago so here are my thoughts right after (will probably make a new post once I've rewatched the episode to properly grasp what happened):
1. omg the tension is still sooo intense I can't
2. I would've been so thrown off if I was jihyun because why do you kiss me and then stop talking to me for the rest of the trip?? so props to him for handling it somewhat well, I really liked that jihyun's curiosity for jaewon clearly won and he approached him again instead of staying distant
3. but then again, I'm still a little confused on how they "got back together" because jaewon went from acting like they never talked before to come on, let's have a date at han river like?? what happened in between? that seemed like a really weird cut to me idk
4. staying with jihyun tho, my lovely little jihyun I love him, he's so adorable.. I love the scene when he comes into work and it literally almost looks like he's floating through the bar while mopping and smiling like an absolute fool
5. I really liked that we got a little more insight into jaewon's therapy sessions because it made things that were just assumptions before clearer to the viewer
6. Taehyung?? bro, do you not realize that your "BEST FRIEND" clearly has no interest in getting back with his ex?? he was so annoying in the first two episodes already I really hope at some point jaewon is gonna snap because damn, does he really not get it??
7. Eunji? man, I'm kinda sad Eunji is made into the jealous, mean ex-girlfriend.. maybe she's getting a redemption arc later on but right now her behavior is just not it.. hated how she was behaving in the bar, basically treating jihyun like shit I was really glad the bar owner (I love her, she's great <3) said something
8. Aeri tho, I was a little confused by her behavior at first because she was really pushy (?) but I liked that she ended up clearing things up and making sure that jihyun knew she just wants to be his friend
9. the scene in the library where jihyun was showing jaewon his drawing was sooo cute I gotta admit it must've looked weird from eunji's perspective because why is the guy that just told her to work separately now smiling like an idiot? and them enjoying their ramen at the han river? very wholesome, I have to say tho when jaewon sent jihyun to get coffee I thought he would ditch him for a second because he seemed a little off but he stayed so we're all good
10. jaewon being a little hot and cold with jihyun throughout the episodes irritated me a little at first but it made sense if we think about what he said to his therapist and it also further confirmed that most of his relationships are probably on surface level and not even his "closest friends" actually know him.. so jaewon backing off from jihyun every once in a while was probably just him being scared of letting him come too close (I think?? god, sometimes I think whatever I'm saying here goes right in the opposite direction of what's actually happening but oh well, isn't this what theories are there for?)
(idk but jaewon seems like the type of person that's like "I only hurt the people close to me, so I keep everyone at a distance") -> this really makes me curious about jaewon's and eunji's relationship and how that went because he said they dated for two years
11. I also think both of them are at a point where they know there's mutual interest between them and that they're probably gonna be more than friends considering they were about to kiss again before joon pyo came to the rooftop (I mean can we talk about jaewon's cute little smile right at the end of the episode?? the man is whipped)

Okay so spoilers under the cut for AIB s2 things that I wish they had added / I have a problem with / I liked !
- SPOILERS -
* I honestly liked that Niragi didn’t have a ‘redemption’ arc, not really. He was a little more toned down then how he was at the beach, but also maybe that’s a mixture of he wasn’t killing people every two seconds like he was when they were doing the witch game, and also maybe because we didn’t see him a whole bunch? But yeah, i’m all for letting bad guys be bad guys.
* also I CACKLED at how within two seconds of Niragi and Chishiya seeing each other again, Niragi shoots Chishiya and tHIS MOTHERFUCKER proceeds to then lie on the ground in a ‘pose’ and complain ‘you didn’t even hit me anywhere vital on purpose’ while looking wholly unimpressed and then thru started bickering like an old married couple.
* Chishiya’s game with what’s his face (the 2nd leader from the beach don’t remember his name) was everything I ever wanted, literally. I remember reading that in the manga and being like holy fuck this is intense but amazing and they rly managed to pull it off just the same in the live action.
* on another note, I really wish Akane wasn’t sexualised as much as she was. I know at one point it says she’s a senior in high school, which would make her around 18 in Japan but like … I kept being so fucking aware that she’s soooo much younger than Arisu and Aguni who she kept flirting with and I just - it made me uncomfy. Plus ALL the panty shots????? There were SO many!! If they were gonna do that (which I still wish they wouldn’t but this is an example) why not do it for one of the older woman whose ya’know an actual adult?????
* I really dislike the trope of like … forgetting something that had happened as a plot device, so the ending irritated me. It’s written the same in the manga, so it’s not even that they changed it, I just hate that trope all together because it kinda just feels lack lustre once they’re all back that they don’t even remember each other properly they just have a feeling ‘they’ve met’ and we don’t get like … that big emotional re-union ya know?
* speaking of re-unions though Kuina’s broke me. Her dad finally being supporting of her! I cried.
* also love that Kuina and Chishiya stayed bsf all thru the borderlands, even in the gap between s1 and s2 and all the time in s2 when they were separated the first thing Kuina asks when she sees Arisu again is where Chishiya is and how he’s doing.
* someone correct me if I’m wrong for this one but - in the manga, don’t they explain what happens now that the game has been concluded? Like yeah they explained that people can choose to stay or go, but they left out the part where the people who stay get to take over whatever bosses game they won!!!! So like, those two motherfuckers from the prison game now get to stay and continue being the boss same with a ‘new’ Mira or whatever; isn’t that something that happens? That the games just … keep going with a new group.
* upset also that they left out Chishiya’s relationship with his dad because that explains his personality a LOT for people who may be confused why he acts like he is / why he’s so logical. It’s because his dad didn’t give him the emotional / love when he was a kid so he became cool calm and calculated. I don’t wanna say the guy he was calling ‘Sir’ in the LA was his dad, but I’m pretty sure in the manga is dad is some higher up in the hospital too??????????
* I NEED / NEEDED more of Usagi + Ahn + Kuina being best girlfriends like … ugh, their friendship. I want them to go on cute fashion trips together, get manicures or w/e, braid each others hair and tell each other secrets just ugh gIVE ME GIRL BSF.
That’s it for now but I’m sure I’ll think of more and add to this thanks !!

TPP spoilers kinda. Throwin thoughts around, encouraging comments.
I have such incredibly high hopes for Sasha Wire as an antagonist. She is my favorite so far in the podcast. I'd like to hear more on her reasoning of Dark Matters being the Best Route and if she'll actually make her own redemption by making Dark Matters better, but that seems highly unlikely. What's probably gonna happen is it's gonna tie in with S2s cybernetics. Dark Matters adding cybernetics to criminals perhaps? Perhaps ones with great fame and skill, that one could make an example out of? Haha. Wouldn't that be weird.
Anyways, focusing on Sasha. Her motivation is stellar and has been set in place for a long time. Annie, leaving the HCPD, likely even Juno's departure for them as well. The smart ones get off of Hyperion. The smart ones leave Mars because they know they can't fix Hyperion from the inside. I wholeheartedly believe she still has her attachments to home and wants to improve it. That her motivations line up with S1 and S2 Juno, and her deal with the devil is seen as a necessity. We have to circle back to Newtown to see exactly what she's done there however. Did she help? Did Dark Matters have any play with Ramses? They were watching the Miasma fiasco, so is this Illuminati bullshit tied in everywhere?
It's interesting to compare how her and Nureyev's minds have a bit of similarity. Pull a string here. Organized. Plan upon plan and believing they can manipulate anyone in the room. Probably boxing anything worthwhile when required (like a conscience). I'm sure someone's probably said this somewhere, but Sasha's and Peter's mirroring in thought process is. Hhh. They both want to be unknown and nameless.
We know that Nureyev's reasoning to hide his true name, true face, true nature, whatever, is from guilt and need under a cloak practicality. No, of course he doesn't feel bad about Brahma, about Mag, about Slip, and doesn't struggle with letting anyone in to see what he's done. It's simply that the things he's done are too big to handle, too big to tell anyone, too risky, right? Nah. He 100% could've and should've told the family what he did with the Guardian Angel. Any scrap of truth, especially telling them that he was a young revolutionary doing the right thing? It would've struck their hearts. Jet hating the weapon, Buddy and Vespa hating the suppression, it's severely unlikely they would've taken his past in a negative light, at least for long. But he didn't because he didn't want to be known. The guilt is too great.
So, rounding back to Sasha, does any of this apply to her? Has she done something horrifying while we weren't looking and is now attempting to wipe everyone who's known her in a way to escape her guilt? Or is this practicality? I've heard some people talking about Mick and how he's likely in danger, but I doubt it, since he doesn't know what she's been doing recently and holds no grudges on her. No guilt for her there then.
Juno is dealing with two people dear to him that are very self focused, very driven, that he KNOWS have good centers, and yet what are they doing? Part of his family, hurting his family, one way or another. I wonder if his forgiveness of one, or lack thereof, will impact the other.
Sasha is boned after almost hurting Rita tho. And the final nail must be putting everyone else in Brainwash Jail. So, yeah, might not be a mirror, anywhere near comparable forgiveness wise, unless Nureyev has some pretty bad skeletons. I'd really like to see a Sasha redemption arc on principle, but I won't get my hopes up on that.

⚠️MHA CH. 362 SPOILERS⚠️
Okay, just fully caught up on the MHA manga and I’d like to share my thoughts. I read from 258 to the latest chapter after re-watching seasons 1-5 of the anime.
———————————————————————
Tumblr media
• Had previously read the 1st war arc, not much to say on that except the scene with Mina freezing up while fighting Gigantomachia still makes my blood boil. I’m gonna make a separate post talking about this but Mina is literally my favorite woman in the series besides Mirko. It’s established early on that she’s both exceptionally strong as well as courageous. Her fumbling in this moment doesn’t fit her previous characterization at all and seems like another classic example of the girls just being used to make their male classmates look better. Don’t get me wrong, I ADORE Kiri, but that moment should have been Mina’s! She’s such a vibrant character and deserves time in the spotlight and the one time we’re it seems like she’s about to get it, it gets stolen from her. Makes me so sad. :(
Tumblr media
• THE VIGILANTE ARC WRECKED ME EMOTIONALLY!!!! Izuku has been my biggest comfort character for the past like 4 years and I both loved and hated seeing him acting alone. He was like a total badass and I love seeing his growth and this arc was great for his development, but MAN. Like Ocha says in her speech, HE IS LITERALLY A HIGH SCHOOLER! Seeing this poor kid try and shoulder responsibility for the future of his entire nation if not the world is heartbreaking. Izuku is genuinely such a good person and deserves to be loved and supported, seeing him try to tackle this huge problem alone was so sad. I wanna hug him so bad.
Tumblr media
• Loved seeing more of Toga! Another one of my favorite characters, she’s just so interesting. I honestly really hoped she was gonna get a redemption arc, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the direction her character is going in. I just really feel for her, she’s just a kid too and has been a victim because of her quirk. I thought it would be really cool for her to get a second chance and maybe decide to help the heroes because of her love for Izuku and Ocha. Regardless, the scene where she confesses to Izuku was hilarious. Seeing him blush after getting asked out by a serial killer had me wheezing. 10/10 would recommend.
Tumblr media
• The UA traitor reveal was sooooo cool! I’ve always liked Toru and firmly believed she wasn’t the traitor bc it was just too obvious to be true. Glad to see that hunch was correct, but I am surprised it ended up being Aoyama. Always thought he was just kinda a gag-character. So great plot twist, and Toru was so cool during the confrontation! PUT SOME RESPECT ON MY GIRLS NAME!!!
Tumblr media
• Shoto’s development throughout the series is second only to Izuku imo. He’s come so far and it’s wonderful to see, he deserves to heal. He handled Dabi’s reveal in such an emotionally moving way, and he looked so cool during their fight! Sometimes I genuinely forget how much I like him; he’s just so well written!
Tumblr media
• The stakes have progressively ramped up throughout the series and Horikoshi’s done a great job conveying this, but I gotta say seeing Mirko and Aizawa get so hurt was really hard. They’re def my two favorite pros. Also Crust sacrificing himself for Aizawa?! Oh. My. God. Obviously Crust hasn’t really been a super relevant character so I wasn’t attached to him, but seeing the look on both his and Aizawa’s face? Gut wrenching; made me cry. I think Mirko is still so cool with her prosthetic tho, I hope Aizawa is able to get his eye fixed and return to the fight directly as well. I know he hates watching from the sidelines, unable to protect his students.
Tumblr media
• SHINSO MY LOVE!!! His hero costume is so cool!!! And I’m so glad he’s confirmed to be joining the hero course next year. :)
Tumblr media
• OH MY GOD TENYA CAME THRU! I’m a huge Iida fan and hate seeing him get overlooked. I feel like he’s been pretty absent since the Hero Killer arc despite being one of the protagonist’s closest friends, but he had a couple of cool moments during the vigilante and 2nd war arcs. I JUST WANT MORE SCREEN TIME FOR THE CLASS REP
Tumblr media
• Okay now for the big one, Katsuki Bakugou. I have a lot of conflicting feelings about him as a character as well as his death. Kats is another exceptional well written character, especially after his motivations and feelings about Izuku and All Might are revealed. I like Kats as a character because he’s complex and interesting to watch, but that doesn’t mean I think he’s necessarily a great person. Katsuki may not be a villain, but I don’t really think he’s a hero either. I find most of his actions and motivations to be entirely self serving, a stark contrast to Izuku, who is everything that a hero should be. For a majority of the series, he operates without regard for anyone else’s feelings and is generally unkind and even cruel. He only wants to be a hero because he wants praise and recognition, to prove he’s better than everyone else. I don’t think that you can really be a hero if that’s your motivation for doing so. A real hero needs to be compassionate above all else. While Katsuki receives good character development throughout the series and eventually recognizes Izuku as a legitimate rival instead of an obstacle to crush, he never becomes kinder. And it’s honestly heartbreaking to watch Izuku continue to seek validation from someone who’s mostly just been mean to him their entire lives. At the end of the day, despite his strength and accomplishments, Katsuki Bakugou is still a total jerk. He doesn’t even apologize to Izuku until the vigilante arc, and afterwards doesn’t bother to adjust his attitude. Yes he may be more open to working together by that point, but is it because he really cares about anyone else’s feelings, or does he just know that it’s the only way to win? I don’t know. Either way, if someone has to die here, I’d much rather it be him than most of the other prominent supporting characters. His death also makes sense from a plot standpoint. Despite how toxic their relationship is, Izuku still cares for Katsuki deeply, and his death would have the most impact on the story. But then again, they’ve pulled the “oh no there’s no way they could have survived… SIKE” thing with several other characters at this point so I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t actually die. At this point, I could take it or leave it. I will say tho, he looked awesome with that new gear during the fight with Shiggy.

3x02 Thoughts
Spoilers below
- Things I was spoiled for before the episode: saw that ghost!caleb was going to haunt Belos in writing, saw a screencap of possessed Raine. - Amity wants to be a writer!!! :D I was kind of wondering about what she was interested in doing bc we’ve talked about Gus wanting to be a representative to the human realm and Willow has flyer derby and Hunter has palismen carving and Luz, of course, wants to be a witch (and maybe an artist too). So it feels nice to get what amity wants to do. Also nice to see them together. - MURDER CAVE!!! It’s back and bigger than ever!!! I was kinda hoping that Caleb had moved on, and while I can see the spin on this that Belos is just seeing things because of “guilt” (hmm...) I kinda doubt it. Caleb is giving me death omen energy. The scene when Belos tried to possess that grimwalker was super cool though. - I’m unhappy about the whole puppet thing. I get it, but it actually dampers my enjoyment a little to see that happen to these characters because I really can’t imagine two months of being like that, especially for Darius and Raine (and Eber), and even like... Perry and Willow’s dads.) It’s p bad and I know they can turn back but I hope we get to really see them again before the end of the show, like I hope it gets reversed before halfway through next episode because I’m gonna cry and scream if we don’t get the adults fighting alongside the kids. Also it just really sucks that Belos didn’t possess Odalia fr.  - King. That’s the whole point here. -Aside from the puppet stuff, the Collector is growing on me a little. I like that he let Eda and Lilith out because he saw how much King loved Eda. I love his vibe, he’s very special to me. I like the outfit he put Odalia in, she looks nice lmao. I hope he realizes that he needs to make his own friends and put the effort in and goes off somewhere else to grow because that would make me happy. - I don’t like the Raine possession, it makes me sad and I’m worried we won’t get to see them enough before the end of the series because we already missed out on them in this episode. Same with Darius but oh well. It also flags some bad tropes about poc being possessed for white people narrative (like... Raine is Eda’s love interest and it feels that this choice was only made for Raeda which I’m sure is correct and even though I love that couple I think there were better ways to deal with it but I hope they surprise me. -I don’t like Boscha’s redemption (She’s giving Belos codependant energy a little and it’s funny that she focuses on Amity when Skara is right there although Skara knows Skara deserves better) but I liked the Hexside stuff still and Matt. I like him more now that we had more time with him and bc looking glass ruins. -And the topic of the hour, apparently... Huntlow. I think it’s cool that Willow kind of starts as someone who ignores the bad things around her and learns to accept them and be okay with crying, that’s cool. Willow really needed that. I don’t like that Hunter has magic but I didn’t mind the Huntlow, it didn’t bother me that much because I liked what they did with her arc and how they got there, even if I’m still not happy about magic Hunter (that better be the only magic he got istg).

For the Star Wars ask game....
3. which character are you actually most like?
6. what planet would you most like to live on?
20. what do you hope will happen in future movies? (I'm gonna take liberties with this question and say you can include shows as well)
3. Which character are you actually most like?
I answered this one in a previous answer, but will dig in some more! I do think I have a little Leia in me, as she has had a huge influence on me for a long time, right down to be kinda crabby when people are getting under foot and making it hard for me to do what needs to be done. But, the truth of the matter is, I am probably most like Peli. My partner even says I talk to the cats and dogs like Peli talks to he droids 😂
6. What planet would you most like to live on?
Tatooine. Just kidding. If I never see that planet again, it will be too soon (MOVE ON, COWBOY MAN). Probably Scarif.....prior to the Empire coming in, that is. I am a tropical lizard, after all. I would definitely enjoy those beaches and palm trees.
20. What do you hope will happen in future movies (or shows)?
In the most immediate future, I want to Bo-Katan to get a satisfying arc that shows she truly is a hero/recovering baddie. I want her redemption arc to show her leading a particular shiny pantsed Mando into realizing that being Mandalorian means many things (with emphasis on her sister's Mando-ness) and leading him out of his cult.
I'd also like, most likely in the Bad Batch, to see some sort of arc on what happened to Mandalore between the end of TCW season 7 and Rebels.
Wouldn't mind seeing Korkie make an appearance, particularly in Mando, but I'm very protective of him and I'm not sure anyone can write a satisfying story with him that would make me happy.
Further on, I want Bail in Andor, season 2, and I think this is a perfectly acceptable character to include while avoiding the "no cameos" mindset that this show seems to have. He is part of the Rebellion story, he is part of Cassian's story, so give some Bail!
As for movies, I'm not really sure. I was excited for the Rogue Squadron movie and disappointed it got canned. If we do more movies, I wouldn't mind either looking at the galaxy from another viewpoint (like Andor) or a Jedi focused movie that is completely separate of the Skywalker saga....with the High Republic era or a story from the same era (Clone Wars) but where we don't focus or even mention the disaster lineage.
Also, burn the sequels and give me sequels more like the EU 😂😂😂

Just curious :) If you could pick six autobots and six decepticons for the main characters of a new and upcoming tv series, which ones would you pick?
Hmmmm that entirely depends on multiple factors about this theoretical new show? Like- is it set on Earth, Cybertron, or a new planet? Is it pre war, during war, post war? Is the writer someone that can be trusted with my beloved characters and won't kill them off for cheap shock value or turn one of them into a total psychopath just because he/she has canonical lower empathy than others (looking at you, comic Prowl)?
But like. Assuming all those factors line up favorably....
Autobots:
Jazz
Prowl
Chromia
Silverbolt
Moonracer
Elita-1
Why these ones? Mostly because they don't get hardly any screen time either in their original shows or especially post the original shows. I adore Optimus and Bumblebee, obviously, but I think it would be interesting to expand on a new crew *properly* (Robots in Disguise does not *count*). Elita-1 would be the leader and Optimus's wife, or at least his female counterpart, with Chromia as her supporting officer. Jazz and Prowl probably wouldn't show up until a few eps in, for added flavor, and assimilate into the command structure without any of the sexism problems shows like to throw in there for cheap drama (you can't tell me Mr Vibes Aggressively To Earth Lingo And Music and Mr Logic and Competence Are My Keywords would be fussed about obeying two femmes who've been in this situation longer than them, assuming this is a during war show)
If the show is like- pre or post war, then these are still my picks because they would all be living very different lives and seeing what draws them together would be interesting.
Silverbolt is there because I'm tired of the Decepticons having All Sky All The Time
Decepticons:
Soundwave + Cassettes (yes they count as one entry on this list, Soundwave gets to keep his/her kids fight me)
Knockout from TF Prime
Breakdown from TF Prime (not gonna break up the comedy duo, like, come on)
Starscream
Skywarp
Thundercracker
Again, picking from my favorites or ones I think would have interesting chemistry with each other and/or the Autobots. Not including Megatron because if Optimus isn't there to balance him out then the autobots are doomed. *Could* have included a Decepticon femme to be Elita-1's rival but I don't like most of the Decepticon options and Arachnid/Arachnea is ... kinda boring to me save for her Animated version. That and seeing Starscream attempt to Be In Charge only for Elita-1 to think circles around him while Thundercracker and Soundwave stand in back being the long-suffering Ignored Braincells would be prime comedy material.
Again this is assuming it's during war. But I think my choices could still work Post-War if for the Decepticons they either broke out of jail, all these bots are stranded somewhere and unaware why their respective sides have gone dark, or, if going for comedy, if these idiots are all on essentially Post War Community Service and Starscream keeps trying to revive the Decepticon cause and *failing*.
Yes I know in the comics Starscream gets to be like. An actual competent politician. However:
Tumblr media
Starscream's Entire Existence through the war has frankly always hinged on him being potentially intelligent, but then his arrogance is so suffocating he is his own worst enemy. Frankly I'm convinced from Prime and Animated that the only reason he survived at all, let alone stayed Megatron's Second, is Megatron recognized the convenience of having someone Savage enough to take out any competition that would try to kill Megatron without "Starscream's approval or command" but was himself too smotheringly arrogant to ever actually succeed in his own assassination plots.
Also bonus points if this hypothetical show has Knockout and Breakdown and/or Soundwave and his kids pull out a redemption arc. If it's Soundwave bonus bonus points for it being because this guy started accidentally parenting Moonracer and now doesn't know how to stop.
An alternate to the Seeker Trio that I'm mentioned because I was equally tempted, would be uh- the TF Prime samurai Decepticon Twins. I forget what their names were. I think the one that actually gets screen time in the show would be a *fascinating* foil to Elita-1 if he was the one in command, and the missing third could be either the cassettes collectively or *possibly* Barricade from the movies, because honestly he was kinda interesting. In a severely feral way.
Not sure if that's what you wanted anon, but there you go.

Okay okay but if we wanna go hard on Cyrus' semi-forced redemption arc + trainsetshipping angst just listen
So Iris(and potentially Hop and Leon cuz if Ingo was researching family trees he'd find out about them too and get that Family Reunion Going) all clearly mostly resemble Laventon. Dark skin, purple motif, smiles abound and all that, and sure they each have some of Cyllene in them too, maybe a steel-y gaze or determined air, but it's more personality than anything visual, right?
Except Cyrus ofc, and at first the resemblance is a bit uncomfortable given how much bad shit he did + whatever he'd been through that made him take the path he did(which also mirrors Cyllene because she clearly didn't have any easy life) so it's a long-ish time before the visual association is anything but bittersweet/disappointing/painful or like a window into a weird alternate universe where Cyllene didn't end up okay in the end...until things start to turn and the good starts to stick(as the good place said, people improve when they are given love and support and Cyrus does get that as he makes amends and changes for the better) and thus more of Cyllene's good side comes through until, hopefully, one day Cyrus actually smiles and it's so obviously Cyllene's smile that it just HITS Ingo like a runaway train(pun intended)
And he legit has to leave the room and go collect himself because he was surrounded by all of these reminders of Laventon which were all in the faces of his decendants who were happy and had optimism and reasons so be positive and smile and it made it easier to get used to, but he really never had much of any positive visual reminder of Cyllene so seeing her smile, something that was already so rare and he truly NEVER thought he'd see again...it's just too much at first.
And if you wanna get EXTRA angsty with it ofc as Cyrus, who really was already so obsessed with legacy, slowly realized how badly he really fucked up and how upset his ancestors would actually be with him, he kinda assumed he would never really be compared to them in a positive light, like there wasn't thing he could do to truly be worthy of their legacy or even of being their descendant, so this hits extra hard and he's upset because like isn't this what Ingo wanted? He wanted him to get 'better' and find happiness while making up for his mistakes? So why is he all moody now that Cyrus IS happy?
Which Ingo has trouble explaining because Emotions but eventually he gets it across that like, he's not upset and this is good and maybe just says like "for a moment you looked so much like her" and it's just a Double Fuckin' Whammy of emotions and bittersweet healing after so much loss and hurt and mistakes
Yeah hold on I have to go cry now brb gonna become a puddle

the nine books i read this year (part two)
this is a continuation of my review on the books i've read this past year. first half is here, 1-4. and this will be 5-9.
continuing on…
I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
i cannot sing enough praises for this autobiography. i'm not the type to read books like this. i've never been interested in auto/biographies, it's just not the type of books i'm into. but this book…. dear lord, i wanted to put it down bc of how fucked up it was, but i couldn't. i just had to keep reading.
i cried a bunch, so… in case you needed to know.
but i seriously recommend this book to anyone that is curious about it. find a library, buy a copy, do whatever you need to do to get your hands on this book. it was written fantastically . i was never bored while reading, mostly bc the events that occur are that fucked up but also bc it was just written so entertainingly. super dark, but with a lot of dark comedy in it. if you have never been interested in reading autobiographies, this one will make you interested.
also… i'm glad her mom is dead too.

The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori
this was one of two audiobooks i got this year. so i got a free subscription to audible for a month and got paradise island by snc. then i accidentally kept the subscription for another month, and got another free credit and so i ended up getting this one. idk why, but the way i found this book was by this meme i saved:
Tumblr media
and at the very bottom is the book. all the other ones kinda look like books you would find at a checkout line of cvs so… that's kinda why i picked this one instead lol
found out it was a mafia story. was intrigued bc i've never read one before.
safe to say it, i don't like mafia stories. or at least this one.
i think the reason overall why i didn't love this story was bc i'm just not into amoral characters as love interests. like within the first couple pages, the love interest shoots someone in the head. and that's not the only time someone dies in this story. so it was just like… ehh, i don't love that and it would just kinda pull me out of it. i think when it comes to vampire stories, i can remove the parts where ppl die bc it's a fantasy novel. or usually they try to have a redemption arc for the character that used to kill. but in a mafia story, the mafia still exists. that's not that far removed from what happens currently. hell, my dad went to school with philly mafia members. it's not that far away from real life for me, if that makes any sense.
that's not to say i know any mafia ppl. but you get my idea, right? vampires aren't real, so when they kill it's slightly more forgivable compared to a human that could actually exist currently. also there is no redemption arc for this main guy character. he still kills and is still part of the mafia by the end of the story. to have a redemption arc, he would have to be completely removed from the story and the main conflict which is the two families coming together. aka not be in the story at all lol
i will say tho, the sex in this story… pretty spicy. and that meme wasn't wrong about him being obsessed with her. as you can see, i enjoy a story with an obsessive/jealous guy. i'm not gonna unpack that, but just know i enjoyed those parts of the story.
OH there was one part i didn't like. i kinda have to give away some key details so if you want to skip the rest of the this review for this story feel free. i'll put the spolier parts in red.
so, the main girl character is seen as a once good girl now black sheep of her family, but only bc she slept with a guy that wasn't chosen by her family. she lost her virginity to this guy. this guy ends up getting killed by her family bc of him sleeping with her. mind you, he didn't know she was mafia or anyhting. so the whole time the family and other ppl that are mafia members treat her like she's a slut bc she slept with ONE fucking dude. like her dad literally won't give her to the main love interest bc he sees her as damaged goods for the most part. and she feels so much shame in the story for sleeping WITH ONE FUCKING DUDE. and then on top of that, the guys are allowed and expected to sleep with whoever they want once they are married but the women… no. idk if this is true to actual mafia shit or not, but either way…. fucking gross and i hated it :)
overall, the story itself was fine. the sex scenes were good but not that many. also i came to the realization that i can't listen to audiobooks without physically reading the story along with it. thank god you can search pretty much any story and add pdf at the end and find it online lol
just realized i never said anything about the voice acting. uh, it was fine. i liked the girl actor more than the guy. it felt like his volume on his mic was super low compared to hers. also it was kinda funny the way she would read his voice and then when it would flip to his and he sounded nothing like her. but i don't think this made the story any better. and i also realized i don't like ppl reading out sex scenes to me bc it makes me very uncomfortable lol

The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks
i've never read a nicholas sparks book before, so this is my first journey into his works. i've seen most of the movie adaptations of his novels, so i figured i probably would enjoy it. i love a good actual romance novel from time to time.
and i thoroughly enjoy this one.
this is one of the few books i read this year that i didn't sit down and read in one whole day. i started this when i began overnights at work, bc i was taking 30 min breaks and had nothing else to do, so i read this within a couple weeks. it was a bit of slow starter, and also the "main conflict" (but also not really the main conflict) happened within the first two/three chapters and i was a bit concerned that this book was just gonna be a slow burn or something or like… what else is gonna be the main problem if not that? but, surprisingly, i liked the story.
the ending: caught me by surprise and i cried my fucking eyes out. it's was both a happy cry and a sad cry. could it be bc my period was coming? yes. but the ending was really good. happy and sad. a nice a combo. a good gut punch, if you will.
i definitely need to pick up another one of his novels next time i'm in target lol

Killer Content by Kiley Roache
so in the previous part of my review, i said "it was nice to hear a 17 year old talk like a 17 year old and not a 26+ year old trying to write like high schoolers."
and what i meant by that is this book.
found this book at work, picked it up bc i liked the idea of it: picture a tiktok house, but someone gets murdered in it. and it's one of the ppl that live in the house that did. and now clues are being mysteriously posted on their tiktok page but no one knows who's doing it.
sounds fun, right?
and it was for the most part. i love me a whodunit/murder mystery. but… i feel like at times this book was either extremely too slow or way too fucking fast.
also, almost every character in this story is unlikeable, but also knows that they are. it's very weird. bc there would be moments where these literal teenagers would be self aware enough to realize that "this la lifestyle is not good for me, i'm living a lie, i'm pretending to be something i'm not to entertain ppl online, online culture is garbage ect ect", but then would immediately almost on a dime turn back into their persona.
so… which one is it? do they know they're a pawn, or do they not care enough? bc i get giving them self awareness to a degree, but you can't give them full self awareness and then have them turn around and go back as if they didn't just have this full on monologue in their head.
also, very early on into the story when the murder takes place, you can tell that at least three or so of the ppl that live in the house couldn't have done bc they weren't near the person who died or where it took place at. so that already cuts out half the house. i mean sure, you could play it up that maybe they are in on it, but didn't physical kill, but that really doesn't happen at all in the story.
also the killer was kinda easy to figure out almost instantly. but i don't mind the obvious choice. i think that's fine bc it's interesting to see how the characters react to slowly finding out what we already know or assume.
the one part i didn't particular like was how the killer gets their own pov about half way thru the book or maybe like 75% of the way. like, i get giving them a pov (bc every character gets one) but why are you giving it away so easily?? if she had waited until they all figured out who it was, and then jump back to the killer and let them explain their plan and why they decided to do this, then it would have been more interesting imo. also, towards the end, when they confront the killer, the killer ALMOST INSTANTLY falls and gives in and starts explaining why they did it. like, with little to no pressure. i'm sorry, but not even a couple pages before, the character was saying "oh this person will be my downfall, i gotta be strong around them so they don't see thru my facade" and then instantly fall apart in front of them with just one question????? no, sorry. i get foreshadowing but like that's too on the nose lol

Paradise Island by Sam and Colby
wouldn't you believe that i started this book, this rereading, at the beginning of the year but didn't finish it until the 31st? the only reason that happened, tbh, is bc i already know how this book was gonna go and just felt like "i'll get to it when i get to it".
way to wait until almost the stroke of midnight there, angelica lol
anyway, the reason why i reread this book was bc the audiobook came out for it. and i was genuinely curious to see how it sounded. tbh i don't listen to audiobooks, mostly bc if i don't have a physically copy i just won't pay attention. but with this one i did so it was easy to follow along.
i know earlier this past year i wrote out my reactions as i was listening to the book but i'll just reiterate them here.
first off, i feel like the person that was reading colby's should have actually been reading sam's and vice versa. i just felt like his natural speaking voice was ""closer"" to colby's rather than sam's.
overall the voice acting/reading was fun. they must have both gotten notes on how to make the boys sound and it was funny bc i don't think any of them really sounded like the boys, but that was fine. god even knows if these ppl know that snc actually exist or not.
colby sounded a bit like a pissed off dude bro, but i'm not mad about that. sam was really sing-songy with a lot of his dialogue. nate was extremely enthusiastic about anything he said. and alex…. idk why they made his voice both super low (to the point that both guys sounded like they were struggling) and slightly southern at times but… okay sksks
georgia's voice was fine for two dudes trying to sound like an older lady. and trey was about what i would assume he would sound like.
also, ngl, towards the end when they almost get sacrificed, i weirdly teared up reading colby saying he loved sam. idk why that happened, i literally knew it was gonna happen, but it still made me a bit emotional.
Rating: 3.5/5 Voice Acting: 4/5 bc it was funny
IN CONCUSION: i read mostly good books this year, which highkey is a good thing especially with how many of them i bought with my own money. i think this also shows that i'm just a simple gal: you write something i enjoy for the most part, i'm gonna rate it a 3/5 at the very least. pretty much every book i read i recommend, maybe minus belle morte and sweetest oblivion but even those weren't that bad. i already have a couple books lined up to read this year (in case you're curious):
midnight sun by stephanie meyer (which i'm about 40% done, give or take), the outsider by stephen king, spoiler alert by olivia dade (idk if i'm actually gonna finish reading it tbh even tho i'm 50% done with it, but we shall see), good girl, bad blood and as good as dead by holly jackson.
that's already five books and god knows there will be plenty more that i'll come across in the next couple months. also there's definitely more in my room that i haven't read that have been just sitting around so hopefully i get to those soon.
i really do hope that this coming year i can actually get to 12. i was surprised i got to 9, but i hope to meet my goal this year. and then maybe at some point i'll go above and beyond, but for now i'll settle on at least 1 a month lol
