I'm a little bit obsessed with Blue Boys. It's a short series (only 4 eps, 8-12 mins each), but it is packing chemistry, feelings, and a decent plot in a small package. The tropes are troping well.
The typical drunken encounter, but this time they actually talk about it instead of pretending like it meant nothing while secretly pining and crying on the inside like in so many series.
Guh. These lines! 🫠 You can just feel their hesitation, but also their attraction to each other. Whoever cast Jaemin deserves a raise, Choi Seungjin is playing him to perfection.
Of course we do get angst and misunderstandings, it is a bl after all, but it's not a forced and ridiculous misunderstanding at least.
Then comes the inevitable regret of the harsh words he said.
The longing and regret they're both conveying with their eye contact is so good!
Perfection. The tension, the passion, how much they want each other, everything was perfect.
There are short 3 min VIP membership Uncut videos for each episode too. From what I hear, there's no extra plot, just 3 mins of hot kissing lol. VIP membership is $10! It's hard to justify paying 10 bucks to watch 12 minutes of kissing no matter how good it is. 😅
Honestly, this is why these two are kind of doomed. If one person constantly makes everything simple while the other thinks everything is more complex... that can seriously hinder communication.
The way they're both so hurt and so aching and so broken and practically screaming inside because one wants a home and the other simply doesn't know how to be a home, how to have a home and they both came from fucked up people who hurt them and broke them and one has no future and the other only thinks of the future and they shatter on each other, they hurt each other, and they cannot come together in the end because neither of them knows how to do this no matter how they love.
(This show needed one more episode as an epilogue to give them a better ending but that's me and my need for happy endings speaking.
Blue Boys A short kbl by SukiFilm, there are currently two episodes on YouTube. It's like 7 episodes worth of plot squeezed into 10 minutes but these two have electrifying chemistry. What I'd give to watch the uncut versions.
Okay so while most of ongoing BLs come to an end and anticipated new GMMTV projects only started production, guys, make sure to check out LOVE FOR LOVE'S SAKE. I'm begging you, it's so good and it's underrated as hell.
It only has 8 episodes and the story is both soft and fun - and also deep and meaningful. The chemistry is amazing and dialogues are chef's kiss. Also Korean cinematography here is by levels better than Thai one. Just dive into it without any spoilers (!) and watch right till the end! And then you'll probably want to rewatch it because the hidden details unravel itself beautifully in the ending.
It's about second chances, about finding your love in another reality, about being kind and accepting love in return. It's also about little happiness in the shape of an ice cream, about standing up against homophobic bullies with sickest burns, about family - found and not, about running through time and space to your happiness because you're endlessly tired but you still have hope and don't want to give up.
I don't want to spoil anything. This show was released in 2 weeks and that's why it slipped the tumblr community's eyes but trust me when I say it'll be easily on top of my favourite BLs in 2024. I'd love to see any other series come close.
Just take a leap of faith and dive deep in Love for Love's Sake (Love Supremacy Zone)<3
Bonus: one dude in this show straight up embraced his new sexual orientation and was coming out on the spot only so he can punch another dude for saying slurs. What a king.
Soohyuk said « let’s sleep together once and be done with it » and « It’s all I can give you. » and « I can’t. » and I can’t do it » and « I can’t handle it. » but he never said I don’t love you back AND IT STINGS. (Also he wanted to kiss him so bad here fam ??!!!)
Soohyuk never really owned his life, he had always to be/do something for someone else...for the first time he decided to choose himself, to focus on himself and however difficult it is, it is the right thing to do
Gray Shelter just broke my heart and not in a bad way (woah). The series kept the melancholic suffocating feeling until the end, and once again I am very surprised by such unusual dialogues and characters.
"It's the hardest situation for me in my entire life. The fact that I'm your home."
The final episode took us through the rollercoaster, heartbreak and gave us hope at the same time. AND AFTER ALL THE STRESS they showed the bloopers of the guys breaking characters and laughing. I want to strangle someone (affectionately)
"Let's have a dinner."
"I'll wait for you."
But they need that goddamn second season. I'm not ready to let Soohyuk and Yoondae go :') (even tho I still have a strong feeling they should've switched characters, like it's so hard to keep remembering Yoondae is actually a younger brother when he's played by such a huge himbo xD)
Might scream about final episode (and a tiny bit about translation) in another post if anyone cares
