She felt good. Really good. For the first time in a really long time, she felt like she was wearing her skin right. Wearing her body the way it was meant to be worn—showcasing the parts that sang songs and hiding the tufts that whispered lies. She adorned a black button down silk blouse. It had been faded mercilessly by the use of her mother for years, and then her. But it fit her well, embracing her with the memory of her lineage. It hugged her shoulders tight enough that her collarbones peeked through, and it fell down in a subtle diagonal, slanted enough to accentuate her chest and minimize her waist. It was a blouse that could hug her right, just as her jeans did. Straight and to the point, they rose high enough to give the impression of those long legs you see on the covers of magazines, but stopped one centimeter short of her belly button. She adored these jeans, they comforted her in times of uncertainty, times like this. All supported with the hefty reliability of some platform sandals that criss crossed diagonally across her feet, lacing them like fish caught in a net, but accentuating the subtle curves that intrinsically belonged to a foot. She knew nobody would look close enough, but she appreciated her own contours and how they were on display that night. It helped her feel happy with her appearance, because the space around her was constantly trying to prove that she was inadequately mundane. The back wall was covered in mirrors and shelves lined with bottles and backlights that made it seem like one could drink themselves into another dimension. The bar was full, and on the other side of the room was a not-so-empty space crowded with subtle cliques and groups, all with glasses in their hands and interesting conversations amidst, she assumed. She couldn’t help but feel pushed to the side, a safe corner she thought. With so many people and voices and sounds, she felt overwhelmed. She appreciated the ambiance though, the whole room was flooded with a subtle and fluorescent shade of white lilac, met with striking spots of fuchsia that rained down from the ceiling in sparsely placed corners. The color gave her comfort, it washed out everyone’s face so that they all looked the same shade of grey and dead. And that’s how she felt sometimes, unalive in her own skin, as she was pushed to the sides and corners by no one else but herself. She felt no regret for this behavior— this was how she was. An observer of sorts, but some people quickly became aware of her gaze at times, as they were now, and that was the moment when Bri swooped in to grab her wrist that was suffocating a lowball glass, half empty, and pulled her outside. “Let’s go say hi to them, they just got here”, Bri shouted over the hustle and bustle of the lilac room. She nodded and followed, taking steady strides to the long illuminated rectangle that lined one wall and presented itself as a portal to somewhere else. Once stepped through, she entered into another room that allowed for fresh air to seep through between the patio and the ceiling, and at once she felt relieved. As she said her hi’s and hello’s and gave her hugs, she felt oddly detached from the people around her, and felt a compulsion to go back in and stand in her heavy comfy corner and scan the room time and time again to watch things that were foreign to her unravel. The night continued on, and as she entertained humdrum conversations she found her head beginning to floating above her body. At that time she deemed it was time to walk home. She kissed them all goodbye and took broken strides between groups of people that forced her to twist and turn until she reached the gate of exit and entry, and made her way home.
Her walk home was quiet and still, her steps emulating her own solace of the night. She made her way home in the brisk autumn night, illuminated by shop signs and bar entrances. It had rained earlier in the day, and the way the lights reflected off of the wet dark roads made the space around her feel fuzzy and vibrant. There was some commotion on the other side of the road, laughs and giggles and “ohhhhhhs” and “yeaaaahs” and she looked over to see a group of five or six making their way down the sidewalk, going in the opposite direction as her. She smiled as she recalled her own group of five or six, the one she abandoned at the bar, and as quickly as that smile sprouted her eyes caught the sight of a dark wavy head amongst the group and two half moons, crinkled and laughing, right below it. She suddenly felt the weight of the world push through her mouth, then her throat, then her gut, settling at the two limp and suffocated fish caught in their delicate nets. She pushed her head down and quickened her pace, but she wanted to look again, to see him again, so she raised her chin just in time to see that it was an imposter. She felt herself sigh with relief, and as soon as she took that breath, she fell into a cloud of memory for the rest of the walk home. Once arrived at her majestic palace, she untangled her now-dead fish and unbuttoned that awfully faded blouse, ripping off her absolutely ordinary jeans, and climbed into bed with only her bare skin. Eyes shut, breaths deep, hands placed flat, toes pointing up. She felt good. Really good. The lights this time were painted red, the kind of red that made the outside sky look green once you walked out. The room was full again, but this time the people were closer, the hands were touching, their breaths were mingling. She felt more aside than she had before, the walls were making room for the movement but at the same time constricting hers. She held onto that same lowball glass with her right hand, tightly grasped, when she caught the sight of one (no, two) dark arched brows and one (not two) full head of black wavy curls standing out from the sea of people, like seaweed skimming the surface. Like they were aiming for her, waiting for the right tide to drift on over to where she was. It was a sight that in an instant shut her down and opened her up. She had grown so accustomed to longing from a distance, it had been months since she had experienced proof of his physical existence. She had resorted to conjuring him in boring spaces within her day or moments when her eyes finally clipped shut; she had forgotten that he was still real and alive in the same world as her. She canvassed the creature to find those lines that graced the perimeter of his mouth and made him look almost too sophisticated to be in his early 20s, and from a distance she watched as that mouth moved. He was wearing that plain blue cotton t-shirt that had no unique quality, along with those dark green pants and worn sneakers, that also were also so simple, yet so him. She heard faint whispers of his low but deep voice that was traveling through the air, mostly getting lost along the way, but still finding their way to her ears. The intensity in which she was absorbing him and his reality was so ferocious, that green beams began to conjure between her pupils and the side of his face.
The red-lit room washed out any evidence of these beams, but eventually he felt the weight of two almond eyes piercing him from a distance. His eyes moved up and out, being led on their own, and before he could catch them they began to settle on the all-too familiar features that graced a moon-like face at the other end of the room. He found himself following the bridge of her nose, a bridge he had trampled upon in his most needed moments, down to her lips, ones that had once curled and puckered for him with love and lust, down to her chest, where he would lay his weight when things had begun to burn him alive and he wanted to run away. This heart started to thump and crash and scream, as his ears began to drown from the proximity of her silence. A silence he knew all to well, and had longed to hear for the past 10 months, because in those silences he could finally hear what love sounded like. Their gazes met and they both stood still. His hands hung motionless beside him, and the tips of his fingers began to pool with an immense weight that anchored him to the wall that was behind him. He stared with grief, and thick cotton balls began to form in his throat, slowly suffocating his breaths. Her knees snapped straight, locking her in place, allowing her to just stand and stare. She missed him from a distance, one that boiled with yearning. But she wanted this intermingling sea of shoulders and necks to stay in between them forever, protecting that sacred space between him and her, because she would never be able to rebuild herself again if she closed that gap for the third time.
She felt bad. Really bad. She awoke the same way she fell asleep, bare and alone, caught in the hazy trance of her own disillusionment over a lover that was lost.

mental trauma and uranus
from trauma and the outer planets by jeff green
uranus in the first house
mental trauma can occur because of the inability to accept physically, psychologically or karmically prescribed limitations
blocks them from achieving their inner sense of special destiny which is not being able to do anything or everything they could do
typically have a "superhuman" complex that requires circumstantial restrain in order to realign the ego into a state of balance or equality with other individuals
natural power of leadership and breaking new ground
must learn how to integrate this capacity within the "system" as currently defined so these intrinsic abilities can be actualized
can create fears of losing control
fears of going too far from their immediate environment in which they feel safe
uranus in the second house
mental trauma can occur when forced to change the nature of their value systems, values that have defined their identity and overall reality for a long time
everything that has been held dear and cherished becomes lost
can include material loss
must realign themselves with a new set of values, or at least adjust or modify the existing ones
will allow them to relate to themselves and others in a totally different way
can desperately hang on to what they have
fixity of values that have defined their sense of meaning in life
uranus in the third house
mental trauma can occur when experiencing life situations that directly confront the way in which they understand life via their ideas, opinions and mental constructions
forces them to question and restructure their mental constructions so that a new ideational system occurs
the transition between the new and old systems is the period of greatest trauma and psychological instability
subconsciously can have memories of a knowledge based on understandings that are not present, or part of, the current life reality as reflected in other people or society in general
frustration of trying to communicate or relate such knowledge
creates a state of psychological confinement because of the "differentness" or wide gap that they experience within themselves in contrast to those around them
a state of alienation from others and society
uranus in the fourth house
mental trauma can occur when experiencing an intense lack of emotional understanding, and a lack of nurturing related to their biological parents
through extension, this same lack is experienced as adults because of the displaced emotions of childhood
creates a core insecurity and an unresolved inner child
can project emotional demands onto others in an effort to recover or experience the emotional nurturing that they desire
can generate quite erratic and unpredictable emotional states and moods that affect themselves and others in adverse ways
will continue to generate environmental or circumstantial experiences that have the effect of throwing them back in upon themselves until they understand that the nurturing and security that they are seeking is wholly within themselves
uranus in the fifth house
mental trauma can occur when experiencing an indifference or non acknowledgement from society or others
a need to be acknowledged as special, to be acclaimed and validated as a zarathrusta or superhuman as measured against other people
experience of indifference or non acknowledgement can occur throughout life, or cyclically
may achieve relatively great heights or achievement for a time only to experience a fall from grace
periods of time of no acclaim or achievement
evolutionary need to almost totally change, restructure or redefine how their sense of purpose in life has been actualized, and how they have understood the very meaning of their lives in relation to that purpose
period of disassociation and the consequent need to reassociate one's sense of purpose and meaning in new ways can be psychologically traumatic
the very core of their beingness seems to have so radically changed
period of disassociation can fracture the ego or personality in potentially horrendous ways
being responsive to this necessary change, versus trying to maintain what was is the key leading to psychological stability and reintegration
uranus in the sixth house
mental trauma can occur when focusing upon and experiencing a sense of psychological separation or isolation from their immediate environment
can interpret their overall environment in general and others specifically as being unduly critical or persecutory towards them
other people seem to be conspiring against them in one way or another
can experience trauma with respect to the type of work that they find themselves in
typically feel that they have a different approach to work in general
a very different ability or capacity that remains unactualized specifically
underlying subconscious memories suggest that they are not good enough or ready to actualize their sense of larger capacity
implied crisis of not actualizing what they sense to be possible
sense of inner and outer containment creates a dynamic of rebellion
can create one crisis condition after another
feel victimized and try to appear normal in their lives even though they do not feel normal
creates a sense of frustation and isolation
uranus in the seventh house
mental trauma can occur when experiencing sudden, unexpected disruptions, fracturing or outright termination within their relationships, intimate and otherwise
can occur by others projecting their own subconscious realities or dynamics upon them
also project their own stuff upon other people
in both scenarios the projection creates a high degree of irrationality into the composite effect of the relationship(s)
have an intrinsic sense of fair play of justice and equality
cumulative stress when intrinsic principles are consistently violated in the relationship
must reevaluate themselves in terms of their expectations about reality in general and relationship dynamics specifically
will rebel against the feeling of being overly confined or enmeshed
can create trauma for themselves and their partners when they begin to look for the exit sign
can attract others who seem to be just as detached at a core level as they are
can create trauma for both because neither will have the feeling of being totally connected to each other
uranus in the eighth house
mental trauma can occur when absolute betrayals of trust occur
can occur when those they have extended trust to end up totally violating the trust to the extent of becoming a totally different person relative to how they had seemed or appeared to them when the trust was initially extended
generates the experience of abandonment and intense loss
experiences of others "turning upon" them
sudden loss linked with partnerships wherein a merging of resources and realities has occurred
impacts their ability to trust ever again
in many ways an intensification of uranus in the seventh house
can project psychological intentions, motives or agendas onto others and have others project the same upon them
have very keen and accurate perception into how others are motivated and psychologically structured on one hand
on the other hand they can mix up and project their own subconscious dynamics onto others
produces intense psychological confrontations and tests of will between them and others
commonly have had or have desires to experience and know the different uses and forms of sexual energy that go beyond normal procreational or conventional expressions
potential for misuse of sexual desire and experience
some may have known or come to know the highest form and right use of sexual energy that is possible
uranus in the ninth house
mental trauma can occur by the very nature of their beliefs because those beliefs are typically at odds with consensus held beliefs
trauma occurs through others who isolate them because of their beliefs
the isolation occurs through ridicule, persecution or outright attack
can create traumatic effects for others as they challenge and rebel against the belief structures of anyone who is not in sympathy with, or supportive of their own beliefs
trauma can also occur at such a level as to make them question the nature of what they believe in
uranus in the tenth house
mental trauma can occur by way of their family or origin wherein one or both parents are dysfunctional in some way, absent, emotionally unavailable or through sudden loss of a partner(s)
can also occur through not being validated or acknowledged for who they are by the parents
as adults, these same dynamics occur through nonacceptance by mainstream people or society, of being severely misjudged by those in their career field of choice, by sudden loss of social position or career and through feeling psychologically misplaced in their overall environment
experience of being blocked or thwarted by the environment
can generate a feeling that it is pointless to work towards any goal or objective because it does not mean anything anyway
an underlying of permeating sarcasm and pessimism
uranus in the eleventh house
mental trauma can occur when realizing that they have been living a lie wherein they have not actualized a life or lifestyle that is reflective of their inner self
feels fundamentally different than the consensus reality that constitutes the environment in which they find themselves
will compensate by adopting the external appearance of normalcy
the act of compensation is that which generates the lie
trauma occurs relative to this realization and the need to radically alter their life
a need to rebel against the normal, consensus life; yet there is also fear in doing just that
this fear can implode on them in such a way as to not act towards change
acting upon the impulse to caste off the consensus life also creates a period of instability that may be undetectable to the observer until there is a sudden, unannounced rebellion
trauma can also occur via a myriad of social connections and relationships that turn ugly, disruptive or simply terminate almost overnight
friendships go astray, unforeseen dynamics and issues suddenly and "irrationally" appear
uranus in the twelfth house
mental trauma can occur when their ego or personality begins to fracture, disintegrate or dissolve due to stress externally experienced or through inner stress emanating from the unconscious
inner stress is based on thoughts or desire impulses to escape or run away from the mundane conditions that define their life
impulse is rooted in dreams, sleep and the need for transcendence to embrace a more wholistic, inclusive, ultimate or spiritual reality
failing to understand the right actualization of this impulse, i. e., to embrace spiritual realities, they become quite "crazy" at a subconscious level
generates a fear that translates into "hiding" from people

BEST OF LUCK PT II
(Set in an AU with Victorian era! Harry) You love another from afar, but your hand is already promised to a very snarky and at times, pompous Mr. Styles. Your mother and father are rooting for the relationship wholeheartedly while you pine for some distant, beautiful creature. Will you condemn yourself to love someone who’s affections you can’t reciprocate? Or will you finally admit the truth and live your life as you’d wish?
Warnings: angst, as always
Tumblr media
The uneaten food all around the china plate stared back at you, almost mockingly. You knew it was getting cold but it was the least of your worries. Some ham, mashed potatoes and greens, all staring back at you as you picked at it with your fork, scraping it to the left and then the right and repeatedly until you grew bored of it and took a small bite. The truth was, your stomach just couldn’t handle it after the news today, the interaction with Harry didn’t help much either. After showing the new caretaker around for a few hours, it was all you could do but lie down on the bed and stare at the ceiling until you had memorized every chip in the ceiling and the shape of the water stain above the closet that hadn’t been fixed yet. You would read whole paragraphs in your book and then set it down, not knowing any of the words you had just scanned. You swore you could still feel his lips so dangerously close to your skin, like a tattoo had been left after their meeting. Her face was still in your mind as well, she was dazzling, all in white and running through the fields, glancing back to see if you were following her to whatever secret location she was leading you to. As if it was in slow motion, she giggled and flashed her broad smile, had you said something funny? Her smile began to turn down, now her eyes were almost digging into your soul. What was she seeing? The smile turned into a more knowing, understanding expression, as if she was reading your mind and now your secret was out. Your heart began to pound as she stretched out an arm adorned with stark white linen, her hand laid out for you. You stared down at her palm, her fingers slightly raised and you realized she was waiting for you to take it. Slowly, you reached for her but your hands wouldn’t connect. Your chest ached in desperation at the lack of physical contact that you craved. Your brow furrowed in confusion, puzzled as to why you couldn’t hold her hand, it seemed like such a simple thing to do. Despite this, she continued to wait, smiling all the while and looking deeply into your eyes.
“Y/N!” Your mother’s voice broke into your daydream, the scolding nature of her voice startling you.
“She’s been like this all day,” now she was speaking to your father, seated on her right and you on her left at the long oak dinner table.
“She always has been prone to fantasies, much like her mother,” your father took a bite of mashed potatoes and winked at you, giving a small smirk to let you know he was merely joking. He always loved to pick on your mother but especially in your prescence. And though you were one of four children, you knew you were his favorite. Your father was a loving and caring man, but his youngest daughter had always held his heart in her hands. He saw something special inside of you that others seemed to overlook, an intrinsic kindness perhaps. You always guessed it was that or the fact that you were always enthralled with his stories and chose to sit on his lap as a young girl instead of snuggling close to your mother. It could also be the fact that you read many of the same books he read, giving you both subject matter to discuss with one another. Whatever the reason, he loved you deeply and you thought maybe more than your siblings. Your brother and two sisters were all successful— Adam, a doctor and Eliza and Ingrid were both married to well off men and bore five children between the two of them. How could he not be proud? But he constantly boasted about you to everyone, your imagination and your studies and how you took after him in appearance.
“Darling, your father and I find it best if we discuss something with you first, before it’s carried out.” Your mother set her fork down and folded her hands into her lap, glancing at your father for a moment. He continued to eat, but gave you looks of reassurance from across the table.
“Alright...is everything well?” You set your utensils down as well, finished picking at the good amount that you had left.
Your mother cleared her throat and goaded your father into starting it off, flashing him a look you couldn’t quite decipher and raising her eyebrows.
“Well...Y/N, darling...” your father seemed to be struggling with how to begin.
“Your mother and I feel...well we feel,” he sighed and rubbed the corner of his eye, whatever he was trying to get out must be difficult.
“We feel that it’s best that an engagement happen very soon,” your mother finally picked up on your father’s way of beating around the bush and took matters into her own hands. Her words nearly made you choke, just the thought of anything not involving Elle made you feel sick. The food looked even more unappetizing now.
“Courtship of course, is very important to us and we’re sure to you. However we’ve discussed it with Mr. Styles and think it’s best if an engagement happens sooner rather than later. You remember how painful it was with your sisters, having to wait all that time and we just believe —” but she was soon cut off by your father.
“We believe financially and for you, overall, it would be wiser. Does that makes sense love?” Your father had his eyebrows knitted together, probably puzzled by your lack of response to anything they were saying.
You opened your mouth to say something but it was all too much. First, Elle was shipping out this very night to go be with her mother, and then Harry had you in some sort of trance earlier that day, and now they wanted to speed up the rate of you falling in love with someone? But of course, their main concern was the financial aspect of the situation. You couldn’t blame them, you just wished it wasn’t so.
“I suppose...I ‘spose that would be alright.” Your fingernails dug into your knee under the table, painfully but it kept you from saying everything you truly wanted to. Your opinion and your choice would never come into play when marriage was the game.
“Are you okay, darling?” Your father still seemed concerned, most likely able to read you better than you assumed.
“Oh yes, I’m sorry I’m just — I’m not feeling very well. May I be excused?” Your heart was racing, with fear of the future and anger about the entirety of this. No one said it would be fair but this wasn’t how you dreamed things would work out, being coerced into a lifetime of misery.
Your father still looked at you with a concerned expression, like he could read your mind. “Of course dear, everything alright?”
Your mother’s hand flew straight to your head, the back of it resting gently on your forehead.
“You do feel a bit feverish,” she was frowning slightly and looking you up and down, you hoped faking it was enough.
“I think I just need some fresh air,” you stood up and pushed the chair back in.
“Perhaps you should go lay down, I can get you —”
Your father almost sensing your unease, interrupted. “Ana, leave the girl alone.” His tone was gentle as it always was and he rested his hand on hers to let her know he wasn’t being cross. Her frown continued to grow, you hated to worry her but you felt if you didn’t leave the situation soon, your emotions might get the best of you. You gave them both a squeeze on the shoulder as you passed by them, a sign of reassurance. You could hear them discussing you in hushed tones as you exited the room but you continued through the kitchen and out into the evening air.
The atmosphere felt crisp against your skin, inviting goosebumps to arise all over your exposed arms and ankles. The sky was a royal blue, the sun finally taking its rest and setting behind the trees. A crescent shaped moon came to take its place, high above you and how you wished you could take a trip there. To be in that vast space with nothing looming over your head, it would be a pleasure. You wouldn’t even give it any thought if the offer arose, not even a pause to go and pack a bag. You’d grab Elle and tell her that you must leave quickly — that you’re going to take her away from all of this to something better. Then, among the moon rocks with a black sky above you filled with stars, you’d hold her in your arms and place gentle kisses in her golden hair. Maybe then you would be truly at peace with your life.
You sat down in the grass again, just like you had done that very morning and you sighed heavily because alas, the moon was much too far away to be a safe haven for you. You glanced back up again at the small sliver of hope in the evening sky and wondered if she was looking at it too, wherever she was. The problem was, you knew you couldn’t be on her mind as much as she was on yours.
“Feels lovely out here tonight I must say,” you felt someone standing behind you suddenly, another parallel to the morning. You swivelled your head around to see your father standing, resting on his cane. He had fought in one of the wars years ago, managing to take a gunshot wound to his right leg, he even won a medal of bravery for it. You recalled a time when he stood tall and proud, but now his gait was much different. It didn’t change how you saw him however, he was a beacon of strength and courage.
“It does, a bit chilly though,” you answered back, giving him a weak smile. He reached down and stroked your scalp, looking at you with deep admiration.
“Must be your fever,” he winked at you when he said this and you were almost alarmed.
“About that, I’m —”
“You have nothing to explain,” he winced in pain for a moment as he crouched down and clumsily sat next to you. You reached out to steady him but he swatted your hand away.
“I may be getting old but a man never needs his daughter to patronize him,” he said this with no bite in his voice, you knew his humor well enough by now.
“Now about that fever darling,” he cleared his throat. “An engagement followed by a wedding is always a nerve wracking concept. But you have nothing to fear. Mr. Styles is a wonderful man who will be able to take care of you for the rest of your days, your mother and I have looked into this extensively.”
You watched him as he spoke, neither of you making eye contact for very long but looking around at the land surrounding you, home.
“I know, I just...I have so many reservations and it all seems so...” you tip toed around the real reservation you had, Elle.
“Hasty?”
You nodded, you could never tell him the real reason no matter how understanding he could be. Hastiness seemed to be the best excuse at this moment.
“I know my love, I just want you to know that you will be so loved and cherished by this man. I would have it no other way,” he reached out his hand to cup your cheek and stroke gently. You leaned into the touch, a warm feeling washing over you. Comfort.
“Can you be brave for me?” He asked, and you knew you could never say no to him. You nodded once more, slowly this time and allowed his words to sink into your mind. It didn’t change your mind in the slightest but his consoling gave you a small glimmer of a dream of better things to come. It still seemed like a dismal outcome for you, but father always knew what to say.
“That’s my girl,” he chuckled and smiled widely at you. “Now, patronize an old man and help him up will you?”
You brushed some dirt off of your gown and stood up, reaching down for both of his hands to pull him off of the ground gently. Once you had him steady, he stepped on one end of the cane to get the other end to raise up into his hand. This seemed like a manuever he had practiced for years and that was probably the case. He stumbled only for a moment but then the two of you began to walk back towards the house as the sun went down even further and the sky was more of a shade of navy blue now. The moon still loomed over all of creation, still beaming at you and taunting you with the idea of a life elsewhere.
“Oh, I almost forgot to mention to you,” your father said, the two of you meandering around the side of the house to use the front door.
“The new caretaker won’t be joining us, she said the land was too expansive for her services and expertise. Elle will be with us for a few more days until your mother can arrange for a new one.”
———
You laid in bed, smiling serenely up at the ceiling. The promise of a few more days was enough to send you soaring, higher than you’d felt in ages. You closed your eyes for a moment, a soft smile still plastered across your face and you thought you must’ve looked ridiculous, but what did it matter? Another small peek of hope had found you, if you could muster the pluck to do something about it. Your hand absentmindedly flew to your hair that was spilling all over your pillow, twirling one thick strand of hair as you went deep into your thoughts and dreams. You hadn’t even dressed for bed yet, the butterflies in your stomach were making your head feel just as light, sleep was not going to find you anytime soon.
You thought about picking flowers with her, plucking a daisy for her hair and a bouquet of wildflowers to demonstrate your affection. She’d giggle as you placed the tiny flower behind her ear, your heart almost bursting as you admired her lips and the way they curled up when she found something humorous. The color of them was a rosy pink, with a perfectly straight row of white teeth hiding behind them. How could someone be so perfect in the most simple ways? You’d both lay in the grass with the sunshine beaming down onto you, not caring about your clothes or your hair being covered in earth. She would reach her hand out again as she stared at you with some sort of knowing smile, stroking your cheek softly and the peak of your hairline. Nothing else mattered when she was touching you, looking at you with deep admiration.
A soft knock came at your door, not your mother’s usual “Darling!” with a loud rap on the wood.
“C-come in,” you stuttered out, rolling off of the bed to walk towards the door to not give away that you were sunken into your head again.
You nearly choked when you saw her standing there at the door. She smiled at you but not like she did in your imagination, this time it was more cordial and friendly which disappointed you in a way.
“Oh, I — hello,” you tucked stray hairs behind your ears and wiped the sweat off of your palms quickly, suddenly self conscious. The two of you had maybe spoken a few words together, not enough to even warrant a friendship however.
“Evening,” she bowed her head and you noticed this gesture was because she was holding hot liquid in one of your mother’s fine china tea cups. “Your mother said you weren’t feeling well, so I made you some tea.” She pushed the ornate cup towards you to signal you to take it. Such a simple gesture but it made you almost swoon at the thoughtfulness.
“Oh th-thank you,” you wanted to sink into the floor and disappear, she must think you were an absolute fool.
“Of course,” she handed you the cup and then cleared her throat, the silence became uncomfortable. You set the cup down on the desk next to your bedroom door with a slight clinking noise, doing your best not to spill the beverage everywhere in your nervousness. Her presence alone could do this to you.
She was now staring down at the floor, drawing something on the hardwood floor with the toe of her shoe. She was waiting for you to dismiss her most likely, an odd habit of hers you noticed when she interacted with your family. But your family never treated her like she was just the help, it must’ve been of Elle’s own fruition that she thought she should be treated that way.
“So...um, I heard you’re not leaving us quite yet,” you said, glancing at the floor and then her for a moment. If you dared look at her for longer than a few seconds your stomach would start doing somersaults.
“You’ve heard right, Ms. Y/L/N. Though I must say, I do...I do miss my mother horribly.” She admitted.
“Oh I’m sure you do, I — I can’t even imagine.” You smiled at her to let her know you sympathized.
“Is she alright?” You added, which was perhaps too bold but curiosity got the better of you.
“She will be I suppose, they tell me it’s scarlet fever and it could resolve itself but...” she trailed off, shaking her head and then gathering herself after realizing she may have said too much and thought the worst. “But, all in time. I just need to get to her.”
You nodded your head and then cleared your throat as well.
“I do hope she’ll be alright.”
“Thank you, I appreciate that Ms. Y/L/N.”
“Oh you don’t have to call me —” and then you were interrupted.
“Y/N!” Your mother was coming up the stairs and appeared behind Elle.
“You’re not even dressed for bed yet, love! It’s nearly eleven and you need rest.” She said, almost looking bewildered at the two of you facing each other and conversing.
“Sorry mum, I’ll —”
“And bothering Elle while we’re at it I see?” Now her hands were on her hips, she looked serious. She put one hand on Elle’s dainty shoulder.
“Elle darling, did you get Y/N her tea?” She turned to speak to her now and not you.
“Oh yes, Mrs. Y/L/N.” She smiled at your mother, that simple upturning of the corners of her mouth made you want to grab her and place a kiss on her lips, right then and there.
“Right then, the two of you must be off to bed soon. Especially you, my sick little duckling.”
The pet name she used often now embarrassed you in front of Elle, it must’ve seemed so childish.
“Actually mother I’m —”
Your mother barged past you and into your chest of drawers, probably getting some night clothes for you to change into.
“I hope you feel better Miss Y/L/N. I’m off for the night ma’am.” She said to you and then to your mother. She turned around on one foot and then disappeared into the night and your heart ached for her to stay, crawl into bed with you and dream sweetly, just the two of you in each other’s arms.
You sat on the edge of your bed, staring at your mother as she continued to belittle you by treating you so childishly, and especially in front of someone so special to you. You dangled your feet, frowning and hands gripping the blanket around you.
“Here, put your nightgown on. You’ve got to rest up and get well.” She handed it you, and you obliged.
“I’m really feeling better.” You tried to assure her, regretting even lying about being ill.
“Even so, time to rest love.” She cupped your chin with one of her hands and rubbed gently, smiling with pity. You gave her a weak smile and then you dressed for bed. Happy to see you listening to her request, your mother crossed the floor and stopped at your doorway.
“Sleep well dear,” she called to you, and shut the bedroom door behind her. You sighed, relieved that she was finally gone and not pestering you anymore. You loved her dearly but she could be quite much at times. And now, you could be left alone with your imagination for the rest of the night and that, mixed with the high of your interaction with Elle was enough to encourage it. You must’ve laid like that for hours, thinking of brushing her hair and how soft it would feel intertwined in your fingers. How wonderful it would feel to have her in your arms, to be in hers as well. And at some point, your eyes grew heavy and your body felt like a weight was on top of it, and sleep found you finally. Dreams of Elle and even of Harry and your family, played all night in your head.
———
This morning was different, there was no fog and the sun wasn’t hiding behind a curtain of clouds. It was shining like it was happy to be alive, encasing you in its warmth. It brought light to everything, the leaves on the trees glimmered and the dew on the grass looked like diamonds. You brought your knees closer to your chest and let one hand fall into the grass, allowing the moisture to cover your palm and the insides of your fingers. You rubbed your thumb against your index finger, feeling the dew like teardrops and then wiped it on your nightgown. The birds were incredibly cheerful this morning, as you were you. As they sang their song, you reclined back and allowed yourself to lie down in the cool, wet grass, the bright blue sky above you with minimal puffy clouds passing every so often. You wished you could stay like this forever, it felt like you were in the sky with it above you like this and no other view in sight. You imagined for a moment that you were flying, and maybe you’d land but maybe not, maybe you would just find rest in a tree and you’d sing with the other birds and all would feel right with the world just as it did now. The difference was if you could fly, you could be far away from an engagement and expectations.
“Daydreaming are we?”
You almost jumped out of your skin, you weren’t alone. A tall figure stood over you, smirking. You squinted, the sunlight hurting your eyes as they had just been shut tight. You could finally make out the brown curls against the blue background, then a blue coat and black boots just right by your head. A fierce jawline and then of course, those green eyes that almost seemed to sparkle much like the morning dew clinging to the grass.
You jumped up immediately, self conscious that you still had your nightgown on. No one had told you he was coming, perhaps he hadn’t even mentioned it to your parents.
“Mr. Styles?” You asked in confusion, brushing off whatever dirt and grass you could from the white cloth. You covered your mouth in complete shock at his prescence. This certainly wasn’t what you had in mind for the morning.
“Miss Y/L/N, how are we this morning?” He asked, both hands behind his back, looking you up and down causing your cheeks to redden.
“I’m uh, well I’m —,” words were not going to come easily after this surprise.
“Still in your nightgown I see?” He chuckled to himself, still scanning his eyes over your entire body.
“Well yes, I wasn’t uh, wasn’t expecting company is all.” You said this a bit irritated, your daydreaming had been rudely interrupted and he was the last person you wanted to see today.
“I decided to stop by on short notice, I hope you don’t mind. There’s just a few things I felt we needed t’ discuss.”
“And what might that be?” You tried your best to seem interested but you would have liked to just march back to the house and avoid this interaction.
“Well I ‘spose your parents mentioned the nature of our relationship with you?” He asked, rubbing his chin now with one hand and looking into your eyes. You let yours wander, still feeling insecure.
“Yes, they did.” You said curtly.
“Lovely, I would’ve brought it up the other day but you seemed —”
“Distracted? Disturbed?” You threw the words out in a sarcastic manner. He smirked once more at your feistiness, which seemed to be only be present around Harry.
“I like that abou’ you.” He was smiling now, hands back behind his back. He took two steps towards you, looking down as he did so and then raising his face to meet yours once again.
You raised one eyebrow inquisitively.
“You speak your mind.”
You didn’t quite know how to react, he seemed more gentle today. Not quite as witty, more delicate. Perhaps he knew your reservations about marriage and the engagement, the whole lot of it and how it perturbed you.
“I hope you’ve thought abou’ what I said,” he was inching even closer now and your heart began to pound wildly, whether out of excitement or anxiousness you didn’t know.
You gave him another look of confusion, though you knew exactly what he meant. It all came flooding back to you, the way he got so close to like no one had before and how he let his eyes wander all over you. The way his curls would feel lightly brushing your forehead and his words that assured you you’d be falling in love in no time. You looked at him now, his hair wild but in perfect place as well, each curl finding their own place on his head. His lips were plump, a shade of pink but not like Elle’s blush color. His front teeth, white and gleaming peeking out behind his top lip everytime he spoke or when he waited for your turn. You wanted to smack yourself, you shouldn’t be thinking of him like this.
“I’m not sure I know what you mean,” you decided to act clueless, you couldn’t admit that you vividly remembered the occasion.
He chuckled at your aloofness, only inches between the two of you again.
“I could remind you, but I think you know.” He smiled smugly, knowing he had some sort of power of you it seemed.
“Mr. Styles, I really should really —”
“Harry.”
“What?” You asked.
“Harry, please. Call me Harry. There’s no need fo’ formality between the two of us.” He brought one hand up to your cheek and the thought of leaning into his touch seemed appealing but you couldn’t.
“Right, Harry, I must —” you were interrupted by the gentle touch against your skin, he let his fingers stroke your cheek tenderly. As he did so, he kept staring at you with smugness but affection as well.
“It’s alright, just like I told, you will love me one day. Maybe not today or tomorrow...” he let the sentence carry off into the air, focused on how your skin felt against his fingertips and how he ached to kiss you in that moment. It wasn’t the appropriate time though, and the both of you knew this.
“I’ve got to be going in.” You needed to get away immediately, the heat on your cheeks and surging throughout your body was too much, it felt like betrayal. Betrayal against her and against your own self. You were enjoying how this felt, but you would never tell him.
He let the air leave his mouth and let his hand disconnect from your face. “Right, I understand.” He said, defeated.
You stepped back and took a breath, feeling freer by the second. You didn’t even say a goodbye, just walked swiftly through the garden and into the back of the house. It was all too much to handle, he was infuriating but had some sort of hold over you at the same time. It was easy to separate when he wasn’t around but his prescence had boldness that attracted you. It brought out a side of you you didn’t even know.
You looked out of the window in the kitchen once you checked you were alone and you saw him still standing in front of pasture, brushing his nose with the back of his hand in befuddlement.
And then you noticed her. You felt so stupid you hadn’t even seen her. Elle was standing in a wildflower patch by the side of the house, pretending she was picking them but catching long glimpses at Harry still standing and looking around. Why was she looking at him like that? Like she’d never seen a man so beautiful she couldn’t help herself but stare?
Your heart sank into your stomach, though it seemed premature, it still was painful to think that she would admire him from afar and never give you the same attention. Had she seen the whole exchange? His hand on your cheek? The closeness of your bodies? Perhaps she was trying to figure it all out and what it meant, you were still trying to do the same.
After watching for a few more moments — all you could bare — Harry turned on his heel, hands in his coat pockets and he walked back towards the front of the house. You left the kitchen to go peek out of one of the windows by the doors, again checking that you were alone. He came around the corner and got into his black carriage, a somber look upon his face. And then, he opened the carriage door once more, a letter in his hand. Gingerly, he placed the letter on the front stoop, and got back into the carriage. You waited for the driver to signal the horses to go down the drive, watching until the black and gold blur was gone and out of sight.
You quickly grabbed the letter off of the stoop and saw it had your name in a beautiful scrawl. The paper was even a fine, yellow parchment. You opened it hastily, your fingers fumbling over each other, checking over your shoulder that your mother wouldn’t see. It read:
Miss Y/L/N,
You are cordially invited to a party at the home of Mr. Harry Styles this Friday evening, September the 18th at seven thirty at night!
Do wear your best and bring a guest if you so wish
You folded the invitation up and held it close to your heart, almost out of breath. You knew this party was important, much more pressing than the last and where you had had your first meeting. Surely that would be when he would propose.
Then, you noticed a small note that had been inside the envelope along with the invite. It was thicker paper and written in a different handwriting, more distinctive.
Y/N,
I realize the invitation says please bring a guest, however this does not extend to you as your family will also be in attendance. We’ve already discussed it. You will be my guest of honor. Please know, everyday my affection grows for you.
Yours, Harry
You tucked the small note back into the envelope and sucked some air into your chest. This was really happening and it would be soon, nothing could prepare you for it. You could picture him down on one knee in front of a house full of people, and desperately you wanted to scream no and run away. The reality of the situation was that this was what your family wanted and you would have to succumb to it. And now Harry was showing a different, more delicate side that was confusing to you. All of it was maddening.
(Please let me know what you guys think!! Part 3 will be posted later in the week, comments are super appreciated!! And I apologize if I forgot any tags)

New Written Review from Mike Crowley on You’ll Probably Agree: What it was like returning to the theater to see “Inception” and what theaters will look like after the pandemic
SKIP TO THE FIFTH PARAGRAPH FOR MY THEATRICAL EXPERIENCE
I had my doubts if Christopher Nolan was the true authoritarian on demanding “Tenet’s” release. I know he has enormous power in Hollywood, but was he wielding it like a selfish dictator? A man of his intellect couldn’t be narrow-minded enough to refuse to delay his film until it’s safe to show in theaters, right? About 70 films have been pushed to the fall, next year, or placed on streaming. James Bond, Christopher Nolan’s childhood hero, was even forced back to a November release date. A November release date in which, like many, is viewed to be moved until things are safe. After seeing the promotional materials for the 10th anniversary 70mm print of “Inception,” there’s absolutely no doubt that Nolan is entirely hell-bent on releasing his film only in theaters. To see these promotional materials, I couldn’t access them online. At least not by any legal means. Much like his iMax previews to his last four films, it was mandatory to watch them in the cinema.
Attached were two reels. One was a 10-minute preview for “Tenet.” After that was a 2-3 minute look back on “Inception.” In both shows, Christopher Nolan makes it crystal clear that his films are intended to be seen on the biggest screen possible with the loudest speakers surrounding the audience. On the “Inception” reel, Nolan expressed his disappointment that there are those who couldn’t see his 2010 film in a theatre, so here was their chance to do so. The problem is from my understanding is that the 70mm print of “Inception” that I viewed is the only available one in the United States. I know that when they filmed the sizzle for these movies, Nolan couldn’t have predicted such a global catastrophe. I feel incredibly fortunate to have seen “Inception” on  70mm film when initially I saw it on a generic digital 35mm reprint in a theatre that wasn’t a lover of cinema like The Music Box Theatre in Chicago is.
But even before the Pandemic, how many people would get access to this print other than iMax cinemas? How long could iMax last? Most of the country has switched to digital. Celluloid has become a novelty that I will always prefer over digital, a uniqueness that appeals to a very niche audience. How would that be profitable in the long run? Now with the COVID-19 Pandemic, that novelty will probably die forever. It was probably going to die anyway, just not this fast.
To make a movie on film is far more costly than to use digital. Not only do you shoot the movie, but you must also send it to a lab to develop the print afterward. The chemical emulsion process is an expensive mechanism. Shooting on digital only requires a memory card or hard drive that you can directly dump the data onto another hard drive to start editing immediately on a computer. It’s cost and time efficiency towers over film. The theatrical distribution model is a dying breed, only left alive through purists like Mr. Nolan. His purity may be going a bit too far, however. It was only a matter of time before iMax would once more be something that was only used for nature and space films to be seen in a museum.
Walking into a theatre once more felt like going into a gallery. I can happily make it very clear that The Music Box Theatre is not taking this Pandemic lightly. Instructions weren’t given to me; they were borderline shouted.
-Theatre Attendant: Have you been here since we reopened?
-Me: Uh, I was here before.
-Theatre Attendant: NO! Have you been here on JULY 3rd SINCE WE REOPENED?
-Me: No
The attendant proceeded to provide me with the social distance seating protocol. He ended the briefing with “that’s it.” I almost expected him to say, “dismissed.” Usually, I would have been taken back by such an aggressive custom. Considering the unprecedented circumstances we all are in, I respected the young man’s sternness. I was picturing all the morons he had to deal with that didn’t follow proper instructions. People who ignored the blue “do not sit here” taped signs, took their masks off when not using a concession—pulling their phones out during the movie. Let alone, coughing or sneezing without their face cover. With 745 available seats, only 50 were free to use. People were spread exponentially more than 6 feet apart. In the row next to me, there were two young ladies. One of them was politely holding in her cough. Her mask was still on before the lights dimmed. During my state of alarm, I knew it was only a matter of time before one cough might slip out. Trying to mean no offense, I quietly sneaked towards the nearest row of the screen.
The woman’s coughing wasn’t the only reason I sat in the semi front row; I was also wearing glasses, whereas you may know, masks and glasses don’t make the best mix. If I was close enough to the screen, I can take my fogged up glasses off and still clearly see what was going on the screen. That mostly worked, but my natural eyesight couldn’t substitute for my assisted one. And boy did those glasses get foggy. I increasingly grew jealous of those that could tolerate contact lenses. Even worse were people with perfect vision. I had to limit my breathing during the film because every natural exhale felt like a steam pipe was being burst onto my eyes.
With me, I came equipped with two masks. The medical kind you see everyone wearing, and a cloth one. Both were on at the same time. In my pocket was a bottle of hand sanitizer for whenever I touched a surface. I heard that COVID doesn’t last on surfaces, but I’ve listened to the CDC change their minds before. My paranoia level varied. Once comfortably watching the film from a safe distance with my double-layered mask, I felt secure. The Music Box has been open for long enough since the Pandemic. I haven’t heard of any cases appearing within their establishment. They’re not like some local restaurants or bars I saw in Wisconsin during my vacation there who acted like everything was normal. With that said, you can’t control the actions of others.
Let me be clear that I never removed my mask once during the entire three hours I was in that theatre. While the movie played, I turned around to see if my fellow patrons were applying the same amount of caution that I was. In the beginning, everyone was covered up during the pre-roll “Tenet” adds. The rule in the theatre was that once seated, you can only remove your mask when eating or drinking, then immediately put it back on. This rule was announced by the man I spoke to earlier, where he took the stage before the film began. There was no way you could claim you were unaware of the safety guidelines. Of course, Americans had to act like Americans. Once the film started after the promos, everyone’s masks were off. At one point during the movie, that lady who I moved away from that was coughing, yup, one cough slipped out. Luckily I was about 50 feet away from her while looking like Shredder with my extra protection. Throughout the rest of the film, I didn’t hear a single cough or sneeze. How did the movie look on its correct format though? Spectacular.
Christoper Nolan may be a stubborn stick in the mud, but my God is he right when it comes to the beauty of the theatrical experience. The black levels in the colors are vibrant far beyond anything you’ll get on your 4K 60-inch television; the sound is bone shatteringly clear. Every nuanced detail in the phenomenal production design is visible to an otherwise naked eye; this is something special. “Inception” is a bombastic operatic picture in the very best sense of the meaning. My appreciation for the 2010 spy thriller was improved when seeing it on the big screen. Even with my fogged up glasses and short breaths, I felt like it was an experience worth having. To have that experience though you really, REALLY, have to love film. The common man would not go to the trouble I did to see a movie that they can easily watch at home.
Seeing “Inception” in a nearly abandoned theatre that still classifies as sold out was a bit of a relic. I felt like the little kid in “The Last Action Hero” walking into the old man’s theatre. I’m experiencing something from a great past time that no longer exists. It was like going to the Omnimax Theatre in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. Only this time, there was an inherent fear of disease, which luckily rapidly dissipated once there. I sympathize entirely with Christopher Nolan’s stone wall decision on maintaining a theatrical release for “Tenet.” He doesn’t have the power alone to release the film, whichever way he sees fit. Warner Bros is in the same boat as him. Nolan was the man who brought Batman back from the dead. He’s the one man in Hollywood who can sell an original big-budget picture on his name alone. Chris brought Warner Bros a lot of money.
Tumblr media
The theatre is located upstairs
The termination of the Paramount decree’s 72-year law is the final nail in our current chain’s coffin. Movies won’t be evenly distributed. All of our existing theatrical establishments are running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to make their money back to the point of offering 15 cents per movie ticket upon initial reopening. When theaters do come back, they’ll be rebuilt, owned by the studios that distribute them. You’ll have your Disney theatre attached to your Disney store. Watch “Spider-Man Homecoming 3” on the second floor, then buy your Spider-Man toy on the first floor. Go to your Netflix theatre so you can see a film four months before it hits streaming. Finally, go to a Warner Bros theatre in Six Flags Great America, where you can watch Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” Then buy your Robert Pattinson caped crusader doll when exiting the show. The funeral is in procession for theaters as we know it. Christopher Nolan may be able to make movies on film throughout the rest of his career, but to see them on celluloid; you’ll have to go to a museum or a specialty theatre like The Music Box. Such a realization is a heartbreaking reality. The sooner we can accept it, the better off we’ll be.
More of my thoughts on the future of movie theaters can be seen below.

Safe Sojourns to High Altitudes: The Risks of Annual Religious Pilgrimages in Jammu and Kashmir, India- Clinical Diagnostics and Treatment -Juniper Publishers
Juniper Publishers- Juniper Online Journal of Public Health
Tumblr media
Introduction
The increased prevalence of high altitude sickness such as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE) are related to the increasing popularity of mountain climbing as an adventure sport; and the increasing ease, and decreasing cost of travel to popular climbing tourist destinations. This precludes the usual preparations and adaptations of experienced climbers embarking on extreme ascents. Today, with the exception of these extreme climbing projects, climbers can climb mountains as a weekend activity. However, even moderate ascents can lead to the illness syndromes that are discussed here. Thus, there is an expected increase in high altitude sicknesses presented to mountain guides, first responders, and emergency department physicians located in mountainous areas.
The experienced climbers anticipating a long ascent plans the climb, gets into shape, and climbs on an acclimatization schedule lasting weeks to months. These are not weekend climbers who anticipate climbing to extreme altitudes. The experienced adventurers rarely suffer high altitude sickness; and, always at the extremes of the planned; but, even weekend climbers can climb to altitudes sufficient to cause illness when unprepared. So, those afflicted with high altitude sickness are much more likely to be inexperienced recreational climbers who have allocated less time to acclimate to the environment such as the dramatic change in altitude (Figure 1).
From a public health standpoint, prevention is an essentialactivity through an aggressive public information programincluding pre-climb briefings, and almost certainly inexperiencedclimbers should be required to climb with an experienced guidewho knows how to identify the signs of sickness, knowledge oftreatment, equipped to treat the illness; and, the authority toorder an immediate descent of the climbing group. Like manyenvironmental conditions; prevention, treatment, and survivaldepend largely on intelligent decisions by people affected bothindividually and as a group. Preparation planning is critical asis planning an exit strategy from the hazardous environment. Insome extremes of altitude and terrain, available rescue is almostimpossible especially at extreme high altitudes beyond the safereach of rescue helicopters. And, the time it would take for aclimbing rescue team to reach the scene could arrive too late fora successful outcome (Figure 2).
As adaptation and clinical symptoms and treatment of HighAltitude Diseases are discussed, it is important to note that noone need die if appropriate precautions are taken. Extremeclimbers in the “Death Zone” of Mt. Everest may die because noone can help them down and their often irrational commitmentto summit creates a psychological conflict between the climb ordescend decisions quickly while the afflicted climber can stillwalk. Also at work is the neurological dysfunction that can  impairjudgment and decision making at a critical time. Sometimes, thechoice is to force the climber down or write them off as on theirown; and, likely a lost soul on the mountain. There are dozensof frozen bodies on Mt. Everest and other extreme mountains asevidence to this effect.
The Pathophysiology of High Altitude Sickness
According to the barometric formula, air pressureexponentially decreases at increasing altitudes; a phenomenon, which causes high altitude sickness [1]. It occurs as an acute orchronic condition depending on the time and speed of exposureto high altitude. If an acute condition prevails, symptoms canworsen to both a high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) [2] anda high altitude cerebral edema (HACE) [3]. Both complicationsare rare; but, life-threatening. Though these disease conditionsare well described, clinically, their partially overlappingpathomechanisms need to be differentiated [4] (Figure 3).
When ascending to high altitudes, the oxygen partialpressure in the lungs is reduced, whereas the carbon dioxidepartial pressure remains constant. Therefore, hemoglobinis less saturated with oxygen, thus leading to generalizedhypoxia. In this situation, pulmonary arteries constrictresulting in hypertension and fluid imbalances. These effectson hemodynamic caused by a hypoxic environment turn outto be pathognomonic in susceptive individuals. Consequently, all compensatory measures of metabolism aim at increasingthe oxygen concentration in the blood. On the one hand, theendocrine system triggers erythropoietin (EPO) excretion fromthe kidney as response to lower oxygenation. EPO stimulates theproduction of erythrocytes in the bone marrow. This hormonesignal seems to be potentiated by hypoxia-inducible factor 1(HIF-1), which takes part in intrinsic formation of nitric oxide, asecond messenger that promotes vasodilation [5].
As hemoglobin biosynthesis is also accelerated, morepotential oxygen binding sites are made available, as indicatedby elevated hematocrite levels and other standard red bloodcell count (RBC) parameters. However, this compensatoryerythrocytosis is known to be reversible. It corresponds withhigher intestinal iron absorption and reticulocytosis [6] but;the expansion of red blood cell volume requires the heart topump at higher rates and making potentially dangerous clotformation more likely. Besides increasing the binding capacity, hyperventilation occurs to increase oxygen absorption in thelungs. However; by this reflex, only carbon dioxide is breathedout more rapidly progressing to respiratory alkalosis [7]. Sinceas a result less carbon dioxide can be converted into carbonicacid, the volatile bicarbonate buffering system in the blood is outof its equilibrium. Due to a reduced concentration of bicarbonateand hydrogen ions buffering capacity is lost, and the arterialblood pH turns alkaline (>7∙38).
Temporarily, this pH shift can be metabolicallycounterbalanced to retain bicarbonates both by renal excretionand decelerating the urea cycle in the liver. Usually, acidbaseimbalances compensated by the kidneys take effect laterthan hepatic mechanisms. The alkaline blood pH lowers thehemoglobin affinity to oxygen, as indicated by a right shift ofthe equilibrium curve with an increased P50. Simultaneously, glycolysis in red blood cells is activated producing more ofthe intermediate 2, 3-disphosphoglycerate (2, 3-DPG), anallosteric regulator of hemoglobin [8]. 2, 3-DPG binds to itspartially deoxygenated state (T conformation), which facilitatesthe release of already bound oxygen molecules. By keepinghemoglobin in a conformation, which is more likely to unloadoxygen, 2, 3-DPG mediates sufficient supply of hypoxic tissuesas long as this is required. Therefore, this allosteric mechanismcontributes to the gradual acclimatization to high altitudes, which proves to be an evolutionary benefit in animals adaptedto such an extreme habitat [9].
It is critical that emergency medical workers located in theshadows of high ascent areas of the world be constantly trainedin the recognition and response to high altitude sickness. An intensive Orientation Course in High Altitude MedicalEmergencies was started for Medical Officers at RIHFW (Figure1). Active Amarnath Ji Yatra Management by Directorate ofHealth Services Kashmir, India led to drastic reductions inpilgrim deaths this year (Figure 4).
In year 2014 Total piligrims visited the holy shrine are:4,53,000 Number of deaths: 48
In year 2015 Total piligrims visited the holy shrine are:3,67,000 Number of deaths : 43
In year 2016 Total piligrims visited the holy shrine are:2,16,000 Number of deaths : 16
Programs of this kind can continue to reduce deaths amonginexperienced tourists and pilgrims seeking a high altitudeascent regardless of purpose [10]. Of course, it is also criticalthat climber’s guides and climbing club managers also exerciseauthority over those who insist on climbing often withoutadequate preparation, skills, or supervision. Of course, thisauthority may be codified and enforced by local governmentregulation and licensing of guides and formal legal approval ofall climbing group expeditions ensuring that all standards andsafeguards have been met (Figure 5).
Travel Safe to High Altitudes
Introduction to Safe Travel
Every year millions of people travel to high altitude forrecreation, religious purposes and for work. Those travellingto altitudes 5500m/18,000 feet, twenty percent of them sufferfrom acute mountain sickness (AMS). This number goes to fiftypercent above 18,000 ft. Most cases of AMS are mild and selflimitingbut some cases become life threatening. Once travellingor planning to travel to high altitude (above 5500M/18,000 feet)knowledge plays an important role in the prevention of AMS. Highaltitude area (HAA) is divided into High altitude, Intermediatealtitude, very high altitude and extreme high altitude dependingon height as explained below (Table 1).
Many religious high altitude travels are being taken bypilgrims all over the globe and one such travel taken every yearin the northern state of India is Jammu and Kashmir is AmarnathJi Yatra where millions of people climb to the holy cave. Everyyear hundreds of deaths of pilgrims occur because of the lack ofknowledge about the risks of travel to high altitudes. In order toreduce the mortality and morbidity new initiatives were takenby the Government of India by the Ministry of Health and FamilyWelfare under the guidance of the Supreme Court (Highest Courtin India) framed guidelines to make the trip of pilgrims safer. Ateam of health professionals which included Chest Specialists,Orthopaedicians, and Public Health Experts visited the valley of Kashmir to train doctors who are to be on duty on the trackof Amarnath Ji Yatra leading to holy cave. A total of 57 MedicalDoctors in batches of three were trained at the training andresearch center for doctors at Regional Institute of Health andFamily Welfare, Dhobiwan, District Baramulla, the Institutewhich is en route to the health resort of the world known asGulmarg. The main objective of the training was managementof high altitude illnesses which include AMS (Acute mountainsickness), HAPE (High Altitude Pulmonary Edema), and HACE(High Altitude Cerebral Edema) (Figure 6).
Conclusion
The world’s breath taking sites exist at high altitudes andwhether one plans an expedition or a religious trip, altitude illnessmust be a factor while planning the trip. This commentary is anintroduction to recognize and respond to high altitude illness. Most of HAI (High Altitude Illness) is mild and self-limiting sobe prepared for discomfort, and be prepared to recognize signsof serious illness. In the year (2012), the total number of deathsrecorded were 120 related to high altitude sickness while as thisyear 2013, the total number of death were 12 [10], and there hasbeen definitely the impact of good training, good infrastructureprovided, and proper planning done by K- RICH (KashmirInnovation Committee for Health Care).

when you’re here, you’re family
(upon rereading, i have deemed this to be the first in what i imagine will be a highly in demand series of: places i visit in los angeles besides the bed in the house i reside or the alley i go on walks in in order to obtain vitamin d which i am severely deficient in… on account of never leaving the bed in the home i reside because i hate everything in this city!)
Tumblr media
if you didn’t study obscure satirical literature, you’ve probably never heard of samuel butler’s novel ‘erewhon’ and if you’ve never been to la, you’ve probably never heard of los angeles’ local delight erewhon, a supermarket only referred to by its formal, proper noun name.
erewhon.
i can only assume the progeny takes its name from the novel - in which (like many of the characters’ reverse spelled names) “erewhon” is intended as a backwards spelling of “nowhere” (“w” and “h” are inverted) - because, like… the store erewhon is the embodiment of irony!
erewhon is my safe space. erewhon is where i go to escape the ugliness of the real world, to soak up the glory of wealth, to revel in my ability to buy a pressed juice in a pinterest worthy, artisanal glass milk jar for $13 that i could easily make at home if i had the culinary wherewithal to effectively cut up fruit and vegetables… or, alternatively, a juicero.
erewhon is where i go to release myself of the awareness of poverty and death and the notion that there’s something wrong with paying a grip for a machine that will squeeze a sack of juice ingredients in ALLEGEDLY the same manner the hand of a mere mortal will squeeze it.
*please someone buy me a juicero. i do not fucking care. buy me the machine. i love waste and excess. PLEASE. I IMPLORE YOU.
shopping at erewhon is like stepping into a real life snapchat filter where every face around you is beautiful, smoothed, and adorned with a flower crown or the ears and nose of a ethereal puppy.
but shopping at erewhon is also like running into someone you didn’t know you owed money and then having that person shake you down for it… over a highway. in a city whose language uses a different alphabet!
if, like me, you are v rich but still enjoy the playfulness of frugality, walking up to the register after carefully curating your purchases will fill you with a sense of shame and dread. if you cannot relate to me in this way, i would liken the feeling of S&D to a “walk of shame”.
*though, perhaps i am incorrect as i have never been on one such walk, for i have never allowed a man within me who was not my boyfriend, and therefore have never needed to shamefully leave his home in clothing worn the night before.
and, anyway, had i ever experienced the rush of passion and lust that precedes the big mistake. *huge* that is a one night stand (which i haven’t because my sex organs don’t work!) i would have infuriatingly elegantly slept through the night and in the morning demanded the man send an uber: invisible cloak for me to go home in!*
imagine the feeling melania must have had walking down the aisle on her wedding day to - self professed human man, star of the failing ‘apprentice’ and noted despicable dude - donald trump, knowing she’d be divorcing him eventually because all she wants is an offspring and her share of the doll hairs.
so, that. that’s what it’s like... tto walk up to the register at erewhon, knowing what you’re about to do, while it will serve you in some way, will also hurt you gravely, and then, finding yourself with nary an exit strategy, persevering out of sheer obligation.
that’s what happened to me the other day when i blacked out at checkout and came to behind the wheel of a shopping cart only to find that i’d been charged $15.88 for a bag of cherries. and no, the “bag” in the “bag of cherries”, holding the “cherries” was not a birkin.
$15 is more than my cherry cost!! and i was eighteen! and a beautiful, angelic, genius baby with a faint english accent, an ass from the gods and:
Tumblr media
and i gave that thing to my 29 year old out of work actor friend person (who after three months i had finally coerced into being my boyfriend) during my college’s parents’ weekend in this dumbo’s subsidized, low income housing project apartment… for FREE.
nah. i’m jk. that shit wasn’t free. he’s paying for it handsomely by never being able to escape me dragging his name and imdb profile through the dirt in perpetuity… and also by never being able to love again with the pureness of heart i invoked in him and by being tortured by the fact that he will never get to marry me… bc he’s getting married to a successful tv star. lol! lol lolololol! we’re all laughing. it’s v funny. ha ha ha. it’s good to laugh.
ok! that was nice. back to the expensive - but less expensive than my virginity - cherries.
even though i am certain the only people who read this live in LA or NY (hello, dad; hello, person who is not my agent at an agency where i could potentially be signed because currently i am unsigned, though i am taking meetings, but i guess what i really want is a manager and not an agent anyway but hi), if you live elsewhere, i hope you have not died from a shock induced heart attack from knowing that ya girl paid $15.88 for a bag of sugar balls.
the world is insane and abundant, what else can i say!
(actually. if you live elsewhere… talk to me about how you found my blog. thanks!)
erewhon purports (by way of their paper bags, which you are shamed for buying for ten cents (even though you are PAYING for them) because you should bring your own because… the environment) that “if it’s here, it’s good for you” and honestly, even though that apodictic maxim is eerily similar in tone to distinguished, repugnant company snapple’s “made from the best stuff on earth”, i believe them intrinsically...
because i don’t trust anything unless it is upmarked 300%. please see: “buy me a juicero” and accompanying sacks of juice ingredients.
that being said, the problem with the cost of the cherries and with every product being gracefully shilled at the almighty erewhon is that, yes, on the one hand, you know that what you’re getting is “good for you” (even though for $15.88 per handful of red gumball fruits you’d prefer a slightly more ardent adjective than “good” but okay)… but on the other, more pragmatic, less organic hand: YOU JUST SPENT FIFTEEN FUCKING DOLLARS ON FUCKING CHERRIES, you absolute pile of disgusting MF house rich, cash rich garbage.
like the masturbatory act of giving anonymously (lol), on the one hand: yes yes yes, wonderful. giving is excellent. on the other (ugly) hand: no one will ever know you did this! it is for naught!
photo break: me being organic... in that i have not showered in a fortnight:
Tumblr media
and that is true. no one will ever know of your aspirational, enviable pursuit of health and a body not made of flaming hot cheetos… unless of course you write a blog about it and demand your closest friends and family read it. then they’ll know.
… and maybe they’ll venmo you some money to offset the price… and then, then that will have been worth it.
or maybe i’ll get an agent to sign me based off a blog about cherries - not the euphemistic usage of cherries but of the far less interesting, actual food item, literal word: cherries.
*also, real talk the title of this is the catchphrase of the iconic eatery “olive garden”, a place i’ve been to once, unceremoniously, despite being on my bucket list. please see the below and understand that my twitter is where i speak my truth.

Trump project quiet on safeguarding rally employees from COVID-19
President Donald Trump is scheduled to take the phase at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday night for his very first project rally since the coronavirus pandemic shut down many of the United States.
Experts fret the indoor rally, where thousands of individuals are anticipated to be in close contact for hours, is the best storm for a coronavirus superspreader event.
Check out Service Insider’s homepage for more stories
With simply two days until President Donald Trump is arranged to take the phase in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for his first rally because the coronavirus pandemic shut down many of the United States, information on the safety of the occasion are difficult to come by.
The BOK Center– the 19,000- seat indoor arena where the project rally is supposed to take place Saturday night– stated the Trump project still hasn’t sent out a plan for protecting individuals from the coronavirus.
” Offered the Tulsa Health Department’s recent reports of boosts in coronavirus cases and the State of Oklahoma’s support for event organizers to follow CDC guidelines, we have requested that the Trump campaign, as the occasion organizer, provide BOK Center with a written plan detailing the steps the occasion will institute for health and security, consisting of those associated to social distancing,” Meghan Blood, a spokesperson for ASM International, the company that handles the venue, informed Organisation Expert on Thursday.
The rally, set to be the president’s very first since his March 2 event in Charlotte, North Carolina, was initially set up for Friday, though the president moved it back a day since it originally fell on Juneteenth, the June 19 holiday that recognizes the end of slavery in the US.
The initially arranged date was even more striking considered that the BOK Center is just obstructs from the site of the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, which ruined the neighborhood known as Black Wall Street and eliminated approximately 300 Black Tulsans.

On Monday, Service Insider asked for details from agents for the BOK Center about who was staffing the rally and whether any personal security contractors would be utilized at the occasion.
” Federal government authorities have advised that the campaign rally as planned is constant with the guidance for the OURS plan for entertainment places; however, in the occasion that the governing authorities enforce brand-new restrictions, we will alert the event organizers immediately,” she said.
State guidelines for home entertainment places state “business owners and event organizers need to use their finest judgement considering aspects such as location and size of location when figuring out the appropriate levels of social distancing and group size.”
In a different message, Blood told Business Expert that any concerns about place security need to be directed towards the president’s campaign. While the BOK Center generally uses personal security, on Wednesday she said security at the rally would be “looked after by Secret Service.” Several efforts to reach the Trump campaign went unanswered.
Concession stands will be open during the rally, and guests will not be needed to use masks

Vendors and the concession stands will be open throughout the occasion, Blood said, adding that employees “will be making sure to follow current CDC guidelines” and that ” Plexiglass partitions will be put at all concession places.”
Present Oklahoma guidelines for food establishments suggest– however do not require– social distancing among employees and customers.
On its site, the location stated it would “enforce” individual protective equipment for staff members and increase sanitation for the occasion:
” BOK Center is taking extra preventative measures to increase sanitation efforts for this event and other events moving forward.
Blood followed up on Thursday and stated employees will also be tested, and that the center had actually added 400 hand sterilizing station throughout the structure for personnel and participants.
Brooks stated concerns about the regional law-enforcement existence at the Saturday event should be directed to the Tulsa Police Department, which told Organisation Insider it did not have any information to launch about the Saturday event.
The city will not bill the campaign for costs such as authorities overtime and traffic control, Brooks told the press reporter Dave Levinthal.

Rally-goers are asked to waive their right to sue the BOK Center and Trump campaign if they contract COVID-19
Rally attendees are asked to sign a waiver prior to registering for the event that would avoid them from taking legal action against either the Trump project or the BOK Center if they contracted COVID-19 at the rally.
” By clicking register listed below, you are acknowledging that an intrinsic threat of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public location where people are present,” the disclaimer said.
On its site, the BOK Center said it would check guests’ temperatures upon entry and offer masks. But guests won’t be required to wear them, the Republican politician National Committee’s chairwoman, Ronna McDaniel, informed Fox News on Monday. Blood informed Service Expert on Thursday that the BOK Center will “encourage all participants to remain masked throughout the duration of the occasion up until they exit the building.”
Current Oklahoma guidelines recommend– but don’t need– that “outside and enclosed large locations such as ballparks and arenas should keep spaced seating between groups that do not share a household such as every other row empty, staggered seating, or a minimum of 2 seats empty in between parties.”
It’s uncertain whether the BOK Center will stagger seating or lower capacity to follow the state health department’s guidelines.
While the president tweeted almost a million people had revealed interest in going to the rally, Tulsa officials have stated they anticipate about 100,000 The BOK Center has a capability of just over 19,000 Social-media users have obviously registered for the complimentary event in an effort to troll the president, so it’s uncertain the number of in fact plan to participate in. People will be let in on a first-come, first-served basis.
Public-health experts fret the indoor rally could be a super-spreader event
As Service Expert’s Aylin Woodward formerly reported, professionals fret that the Saturday rally might be a coronavirus super-spreader occasion Time and time once again, clusters of cases have actually been reported after large groups of people hung out together inside screaming, singing, or talking loudly.

Wednesday marked the single biggest everyday boost in the number of new COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma because the pandemic started, with 259.
A Lot Of COVID-19 cases in Oklahoma have actually been in Tulsa County, according to the state health department
The Tulsa City-County Health Department’s director, Bruce Dart, who did not return Company Expert’s request for remark, told Tulsa World he would choose that the president’s rally be rescheduled
” I believe it’s an honor for Tulsa to have a sitting president desire to come and visit our neighborhood, but not throughout a pandemic,” Dart said.
GT Bynum, the city’s Republican mayor, has actually stated he’s anxious about the coming rally however will not try to block it, Tulsa World reported.
On Wednesday, Bynum informed press reporters he would not state whether he believed the president’s rally would be “safe” however said it wasn’t his “choice to make” about whether to postpone the rally, according to the KOCO reporter Dillon Richards
Hundreds of Oklahoma nurses and doctors have actually urged leaders to cancel Trump’s Tulsa rally over concerns it will be a super-spreader event.
A Tulsa judge on Tuesday decreased to provide a momentary injunction versus the rally that city locals and company owners had actually requested, according to The Washington Post
This story has been upgraded with extra details from the BOK Center sent after publication.

Photo luminescent Film Market Insights to Register Substantial Expansion by 2027
Photo luminescent Film Market: Introduction
Photo luminescent films, commonly known as glow-in-the-dark films, absorb natural light or artificial light. On removal of the light source, the stored light is gradually released, which provides a lustrous effect.
Photo luminescent films are dimensionally stable, durable, multilayered films, which can be electro cut, hand cut, cold and hot kiss cut, or screen printed to produce interior glow in dark signs and markings including safety signage in buildings, ships, and trains.
The intensity of emitted light depends on various factors such as luminosity of the surrounding light, distance of the Photo luminescent film from the light source, type of pigment, and size of pigment particles
Photo luminescent films can generally be used for lettering and emergency identification on flat surfaces and for direction signage
Photo luminescent films are primarily intended for interior luminous signs and markings including safety signage in buildings

How Oil And Gas Industry Should Choose LED Explosion-proof Light?
Tumblr media
The oil and gas industry is a dangerous one — the everyday work consists of several thousands of flammable and explosive particles. These are prone to causing explosions at any given moment, so it’s important to equip yourself with the equipment that will endure such catastrophic events!
Sharp Eagle has been helping the industry for years with cameras and explosion-proof lights to raise the safety of workers and help the management assess situations for future safety protocols.
Explosion-proof lights are sophisticated tools for low-light or no-light industrial areas because they are made robustly to prevent sparks from setting the workplace ablaze, but they help workers find a way out too!
criteria when choosing LED Explosion Proof lights?
Explosion Proof Level
Explosion-proof lighting is famous for its capability to prevent any foreign object, such as dust and particles to interact with electronics insight the light enclosure. It’s only natural you should want your lights to have the same capabilities! Sparks from lights and other electronic devices are the number one cause of explosions in oil and gas facilities.
One of the most important factors to look at in this regard is the IP or the enclosure level of protection! This level is marked by two numbers, the first one indicates protection against human damage, solid objects, and dust particles. This one ranges from 0 – 6, and the explosion-proof equipment has to be at a minimum of 4. The other indicates protection against water, and it ranges from 0 – 8.
Sharp Eagle’s explosion-proof lights are robustly made and have an IP degree of 68!
Performance, Quality, And Warranty Are Big Factors
Another thing you want to look for is durability. More precisely, how much will you need to spend on maintenance later on? If you’re looking to save on the equipment now, this can come to collect and skyrocket your maintenance costs. You should look for a product that’s durable, robust and that stands the test of time!
Sharp Eagle’s explosion-proof lights are highly durable and enclosed in materials that protect the lights from external elements, and extreme temperatures! Moreover, our products come with a five-year warranty that guarantees you won’t experience any high replacement costs for this period.
Choosing Reputable Manufacturer
Explosion-proof lighting can and should endure harsh elements and environments, such as heat, cold, gas, steam, and so on. The thermal control structure and enclosure are proven to fight against sudden temperature changes (such as an explosion), at the same time preventing any sparks from interacting with gasses or dust, thus preventing explosions too!
Sharp Eagle’s lights and cameras are proven and ATEX-tested and certified to work in hazardous locations, with areas ranging from Zone 1 To zone 2, from zone 21 to zone 22, and zone 0 explosive atmospheres. We provide an ideal solution that will function in the most dangerous of industries.
Sharp Eagle technology enables you to choose from a wide range of lighting solutions that will meet the challenges of today and the future, protecting your most valuable assets along the way!
Conclusion

PETER MAYLE WROTE ONE CALLED WHY ARE WE GETTING A DIVORCE
Within companies there were powerful forces pushing people toward a single model of how kids are supposed to be an instant success, like YouTube or Facebook. Some of our competitors used C and C: Perl, Python, and Ruby. A big company that uses Suns is not interested in saving money and can safely be charged more. Most people, most of the ideas in an essay to happen after you start writing it, and so must people trying to write systems software on multi-cpu computers. If they aren't an X, why are they attached to all these arbitrary beliefs and customs? If you wanted to create a silicon valley in Germany, because you need more of them to ask if this was so. I did know about that, but probably hurts. The only people who eat what humans were actually designed to eat the foods that people in the 1950s and 60s had been even more conformist than us.
Many of the big companies paid their best people less than market price. And yet—for reasons having more to do with technology than human nature—a great many configuration files and settings. It was an artifact of limitations imposed by old technology. American university and removed the Jews, you'd have some pretty big gaps. It seems likely that something similar happened in exit polls this year. Users should not have to do it well or they can be swapped out for another supplier. But if you work hard and incrementally make it better, there is a downside here, it is likely to lead, because they only have themselves to be mad at. In Smalltalk the code is a sign, to me at least, but less bold. One day, we'd think of ourselves as the next generation of software? When it was first developed, Lisp embodied nine new ideas. The problem is not the usual one, which applies even when you know which basket is best. When it got big enough, IBM decided it was worth paying attention to.
We arrive at adulthood you get a new crop of 18 year olds who think they know how to run the world? One is that companies will inevitably slow down as they grow larger, no matter where you are. As one data point on the curve, at any rate, if you have code for noticing errors built into your application.1 VCs, but the dumb joke. No one who voted for Kerry felt virtuous for doing so, and were eager to tell pollsters they had. Desktop software forces users to become system administrators. The specific thing that surprised me is how one's perspective on time shifts. I mean a couple hours later. One of the most important sentence first; write about stuff you like; if you wanted to compare the quality of links on the frontpage of HN hasn't changed much, the quality of the median comment may have decreased somewhat. And that means other questions aren't.2
If they can, which is at least a precedent. What sustains a startup in the beginning is the prospect of getting their initial product out. At Viaweb, software included fairly big applications that users talked to directly, programs that tried to restart things if they broke, programs that those programs used, programs that those programs used, programs that ran constantly in the background looking for problems, programs that those programs used, programs that tried to restart things if they broke, programs that pretended to be users to measure performance or expose bugs, programs for doing backups, interfaces to outside services, software that you can use from any browser will be enough of a win in itself to outweigh any awkwardness in the UI. Web-based application. It's surprising how much you can take. By the time we were bought by Yahoo, the customer support people liked it because they could reproduce bugs instead of just hearing vague second-hand reports about them. That might be worth exploring. So what if some of the best hackers I know are professors, but it is quite true. As an illustration of what I mean about the relative power of programming languages, consider the following problem. Whatever the upper limit is, we are clearly not meant to work in groups of a certain size.
I was in high school have seen it. Work. The immense value of the peer group of YC companies, and I was even more convinced of it after hearing it confirmed by Hilbert. Over-engineering is poison. Some amount of piracy is to the advantage of software will be less and less pressure to use what are perceived as standard technologies. So if you want to keep them innocent. At this point he is committed to fight to the death.
But plenty of projects are not demanding at all. My second suggestion will seem shocking to VCs: let founders cash out partially in the Series A round. There was no Internet then.3 SUVs. Writing doesn't just communicate ideas; it generates them. Then one day we had the idea of her having sex even if there were zero risk of pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases. And you know what?
For all practical purposes, succeeding now equals getting bought. Amazingly, no one will dominate server-based software will be reusable. I'd say it's hard to say whether the problem is more than 10x cheaper than ten, because a lot of kids grow up feeling it's part of their identity to be honest and industrious. This is my attitude to the site where it's offered. And if you can see your email, why not your calendar? With server-based software is offered through ISPs acting as resellers. If you're a hacker who has thought of one day starting a startup, things seem great one moment and hopeless the next. User behavior turns out to have selfish advantages. Even when there were still plenty of Neanderthals, it must have sucked to be one-directional: support people who hear about bugs fill out some form that eventually gets passed on possibly via QA to programmers, who put it on their list of things to do.4 In a job there is much more successful than Hacker News.
Notes
Einstein, Princeton University Press, 1981. Though you should prevent your beliefs about its intrinsic qualities. Type II startups, the more accurate or at least a whole is becoming less fragmented, and a list of where to see artifacts from it, and earns the right order.
Which means it's all the more the type of lie. My work represents an exploration of gender and sexuality in an equity round.
Japanese car companies have little do with the VC knows you well, but that's not true! If someone speaks for the average startup. No one understands female founders better than the 50 minutes they may try allowing up to his house, though it's a bad sign if you suppress variation in wealth in the sample might be a distraction. This is an acceptable excuse, but countless other startups, whose founders aren't sponsored by organizations, and help keep the number of spams that you can't dictate the problem, but definitely monotonically.
In 1800 an empty plastic drink bottle with a walrus mustache and a company that takes on a form that would have. It's sometimes argued that we should, because they can't legitimately ask you a termsheet, particularly if a third party like YC is how much time it filters down to you; you're too busy to feel uncomfortable. 01. Credit card debt is little different from technology companies.
Thanks to Geoff Ralston, Naval Ravikant, Jeremy Hylton, Richard Florida, and Jessica Livingston for sharing their expertise on this topic.

EIFS – Can be a Nightmare
EIFS problems can be lurking behind the textured finish. Water vapor can’t pass through to the air outside your home. Copyright 2018 Tim Carter
EIFS is a synthetic stucco. It adheres to the outside of your home because it contains an acrylic resin. Acrylic is plastic. This plastic allows water and water vapor to get trapped and if your home is framed with wood, the water can cause serious wood rot and mold issues.

This product is a synthetic stucco system that was developed over twenty-five years ago. Wood rot problems are being reported in North Carolina, Georgia, Louisiana, Washington, Kentucky, Texas, California, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois, Virginia, and numerous other states/cities.
The only barrier EIFS houses immune from the rot problem are those that never get rained on.
EIFS Problems Started When Put on Wood Instead of Steel
The barrier EIFS system mutated when it was introduced to residential building materials. For many years prior to its use on residential houses, the material was originally applied directly over concrete block and masonry structures, and to buildings that were built using steel and other non- wood products.
The actual synthetic stucco material blocks the movement of liquid water and vast quantities of water vapor. Barrier EIFS products that have been used in the past and are still being sold and marketed by several companies can trap water.
Rainwater and wind-driven rain can work their way past the acrylic polymer coating and the foam insulation that is glued directly to the wood framing and sheathing members of your house. Once the water becomes trapped between the wood sheathing and the foam insulation, rot problems begin.
EIFS Hides Hidden Problems From You
Barrier EIFS is very, very different from traditional exterior wall surfaces like wood siding, brick, traditional cement stucco, and stone. These materials often quickly signal you when water has somehow gotten between them and the wood framing and sheathing.
Painted wood siding will usually peel and blister. Brick, cement stucco, and other masonry homes will telegraph the presence of penetrating water by visible leaks inside your home or by producing efflorescence as the water leaves the masonry materials. In other words, these materials can breathe.
Barrier EFS Is Plastic Shrink Wrap
Barrier EIFS is sinister. The coating is a highly effective “shrink-wrap” that seals in trapped water that sneaks past caulk joints and other entry points. Barrier EIFS homes rarely communicate any early warning visible exterior signs that massive wood rot is present just inches away.
The developers of barrier EIFS made some basic mistakes. They disregarded the accumulated knowledge and experience of the old cement stucco craftsmen.
Hundreds Of Years Of Knowledge Kicked To The Curb
These craftsmen discovered that you could apply cement stucco to wood framed houses as long as you installed a water barrier membrane (they used asphalt saturated felt paper) and different types of metal flashings around windows, doors, and any other object that penetrated the stucco exterior.
This is a traditional cement stucco home built in the 1930s. There’s no wood rot. The person who tried to repair the cracks is this stucco made several critical mistakes, the first one not cleaning the stucco first! Copyright 2018 Tim Carter
The flashings collect the water and re-direct it outside. Barrier EIFS systems in place today do not have the protective water membrane or flashings. The manufacturers hope that caulk or sealants will prevent water from entering between where the barrier EIFS stops and windows, doors, pipes, vents, etc. begin. The trouble is, this same caulk also stops water from exiting the barrier EIFS!

Class-Action Lawsuits Sprouted
The problem is so severe that a class action lawsuit has been allowed (certified) in North Carolina. Other class action suits have been filed in Texas and Louisiana but the courts have not yet ruled on the certification of these suits.
Some insurance policies are also beginning to modify coverage on barrier EIFS homes. The use of traditional barrier EIFS in residential construction is not permitted by two major building code authorities (BOCA and ICBO).
Instead, they now mandate that new EIFS systems incorporate a water management drainage plane just behind the foam insulating board and the synthetic stucco.
New EIFS Systems Must Be Perfectly Installed
The new water management EIFS systems utilize the same techniques that the old cement stucco craftsmen used, however, better water membranes and flashings are available today. If you install a new water managed drainable EIFS system on your new home according to the manufacturer’s specifications, you should have little or no water problems.
Because local building code authorities can modify model building codes, barrier EIFS construction may still be sold to unsuspecting builders and homeowners like you.
Certain manufacturers maintain that barrier EIFS is less expensive to install than EIFS systems with drainage, that homebuilders and contractors have confidence in their ability to “do the job right”, and that the houses are being built in relatively dry climates where damage from moisture intrusion is far less likely to occur.
Unfortunately, these manufacturers don’t have any “written” guidelines that tell you where it is safe to build a barrier EIFS house. As the barrier EIFS wood rot problems continue to spread and intensify, insurance executives, code officials, attorneys, progressive EIFS manufacturers, and I seem to think that perhaps barrier EIFS houses work best only in the middle of the Sahara or Atacma desert!

A recent Virginia Circuit Court judge has just ruled that Dryvit’s Outsulation is defective. He concludes “even if the Outsulation were perfectly applied according to Dryvit’s specifications, instructions, and details, the patented Outsulation ‘system’ consisting of the method of application and the component parts, is intrinsically defective and thus, is not merchantable.” This information was provided to me by the webmaster of another website called eifsfacts.org.

Whew, what a column! After this column appeared nationally in the fall of 1998, I received scathing letters from barrier EIFS manufacturers, their representatives, installers, distributors, etc. I knew the letters would come, and I anticipated the content of the letters. Just as I expected, the barrier EIFS companies and those whose livelihood is tied to them tried to deflect the blame and responsibility for the rot problems we are seeing. The reason is simple. Money. There are huge dollars at risk in this maelstrom.
Here are some facts you need to know:
When I began research for this column I sent 14 written questions to the association (EIMA) that represents many of the barrier EIFS manufacturers. The written responses to the questions were shallow and contained statements that simply were not true.
The president of EIMA, Mr. Stephan E. Klamke, refused to be interviewed by me for the column.
The barrier EIFS manufacturers could not produce any written guidelines telling you or any other person where it was not advisable to build a barrier EIFS home. I asked for these guidelines based upon a statement that an EIMA representative had made. This person indicated that EIMA felt that it was not a good idea to build barrier EIFS homes in areas that experience high levels of humidity. I asked him, “So where is the line drawn? Where is it too humid to build a barrier EIFS home?”
The chief counsel for Dryvit Systems, Inc. - Mr. Kenneth J. Nota - wrote numerous Letters to the Editor to many of the papers that ran my column. His letters contain numerous statements that simply are not true.
Just before the above column ran in papers across the nation, Senergy - a major player in the EIFS market resigned from EIMA over fundamental differences in opinion over how the barrier EIFS controversy was being handled by EIMA. Senergy was one of the key members in EIMA!
I worked for several months with the producers of Dateline NBC on a very important barrier EIFS report. They performed random testing of barrier EIFS houses on the East Coast and uncovered severe wood rot.
This barrier EIFS storm is far from over. Stay tuned to AsktheBuilder for the facts!

We received an email letting us know that BASF/Senergy is currently a member of EIMA.
When we wrote this column we checked with EIMA, and as of 1996, they were not a member to the “BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE.”
But as of January 23, 2007, we find that they are listed as a member.

EIFS – Can be a Nightmare
EIFS problems can be lurking behind the textured finish. Water vapor can't pass through to the air outside your home.

Trump names 'safe' choice to lead the Federal Reserve: 5 questions answered
http://bit.ly/2ioZlY2

Editor’s note: Markets breathed a sigh of relief after President Donald Trump named Jerome Powell his pick to be the next chair of the Federal Reserve. If confirmed, Powell – considered a “safe” choice – would take over from current Chair Janet Yellen in February, becoming one of the world’s most powerful people. So what’s the big deal? Economist Greg Wright explains why who leads the U.S. central bank matters to us all.
What does the Fed do?
The Federal Reserve oversees all banks and financial institutions based in the U.S., including branches of foreign companies, and also sets U.S. monetary policy.
The main way it does the latter is through its target interest rate. This benchmark influences the pace of economic growth, the level of employment and the price of goods, services and assets around the world. As the engine behind the world’s most important economy, the Fed’s influence is hard to overstate.
As a result, the Fed affects the likelihood that you – and millions of others around the world – will keep your job, will be able to afford a new home and will be able to retire when you want. And while most Fed decisions are made by a seven-member board of governors, the chair’s voice is by the far the most important. For this reason the Fed chair is sometimes referred to as the “second-most-powerful person in the world” – after the U.S. president.
President Donald Trump names Jerome Powell as his nominee to lead the Fed from in a Rose Garden ceremony. AP Photo/Alex Brandon
How does the chair shape Fed policy?
The Fed’s mandate – as established by Congress – is easily stated but difficult to achieve. It seeks strong economic growth, maximum employment and stable prices. The second two aims are often referred to as the “Fed’s dual mandate,” since those are the main ways it seeks to achieve the first one: strong economic growth.
The main lever that the Fed can adjust to achieve these ends is its “target rate,” currently set at 1 percent to 1.25 percent. This short-term interest rate indirectly determines everything from stock prices to exchange rates to the cost of borrowing money for a new car or home.
As a result, the beliefs and background of the Fed chair matter a great deal.
Broadly speaking, experts in monetary policy fall within one of two camps: “hawks” and “doves.” Those considered “hawkish” are concerned more with the dangers of inflation – the pace at which prices change – and asset bubbles – when the price of an asset greatly exceeds its intrinsic worth – so they tend to want to raise interest rates at the first sign of either. In contrast, doves tend to focus on keeping the economy growing and, in particular, ensuring a strong labor market, which makes them more hesitant to raise rates, all else being equal.
Yellen, who has held the post since 2014, is considered a dove. Stanford economist John Taylor, who was favored to be the new Fed chair by many Trump donors and backers, is considered more hawkish. Powell is somewhere in between.
There are risks associated with each of these approaches. If the Fed raises interest rates too soon, the economy may fall into recession. On the other hand, if interest rates remain too low for too long, prices may rise faster than the Fed can control, which may lead to asset price bubbles. Some commentators believe the housing bubble that precipitated the recent financial crisis was a result of overly dovish monetary policy.
Nevertheless, dovish policies have recently won out in large part because, despite the strong economy, there has been very little inflation. The jury is out on whether we are in the midst of another asset bubble.
The Fed seal is seen on the wall during Powell’s first meeting as a member of the central bank’s governing board. AP Photo/Charles Dharapak
Who is Jerome Powell?
Powell is a Republican and a wealthy former investment banker who currently serves on the Fed’s Board of Governors. He was first nominated by President Barack Obama in 2012. Perhaps the most notable feature of his biography is that he lacks a background in economics, expertise that the previous three Fed chairs brought to the table.
Given that Powell has consistently expressed moderate views regarding monetary policy, the choice is seen as a cautious one, signaling that the Trump administration’s primary goal is to keep the global economy on its current path of steady growth and low unemployment. In short, Powell is expected to continue Yellen’s relatively dovish policies.
Why did Trump choose him?
At the same time, the other half of the Fed’s duties should not be forgotten: regulating U.S. financial institutions.
And in this regard, Powell’s nomination comes with a possible bonus for the administration, namely that he has expressed a desire to roll back some of the regulations imposed on the financial sector following the 2008 crisis. This fits with the administration’s larger push for deregulation of many aspects of the economy.
Any rollback would be a boon to the financial industry, but the fear is that it could also increase the likelihood of a future crisis. So far it is unclear how far Powell would go to relax the regulatory regime and to what extent he would target regulations that many commentators deem key to avoiding a future financial meltdown.
Chair Janet Yellen oversees an open meeting of the Fed. Vice Chair Stanley Fischer is at her right. To her left are Daniel Tarullo, Jerome Powell and Lael Brainard. AP Photo/Cliff Owen
Why not keep Yellen?
For Yellen, it is an unusually abrupt exit, having served only one term – and a successful one at that. In addition, some commentators have lamented the relatively quick ousting of the first woman to hold the position, particularly in light of her strong performance.
Trump is breaking with precedent by not re-appointing Yellen to a second four-year term. The previous three chairs were re-appointed without controversy – and by a president of the opposing political party no less, largely to signal support for the apolitical nature of the Fed.
So why choose a new Fed chair at all?
It’s a risky time to change leadership. Most critically, the Fed is beginning the process of ending a decade of highly accommodative monetary policy during which interest rates were at unprecedented lows and the bank was pumping trillions of dollars into the financial system. The Fed is gradually increasing interest rates and slowly reducing the size of its balance sheet, which has swelled to $4.5 trillion from under $1 trillion before the financial crisis.
The transition has the potential to be highly disruptive if mismanaged. Whereas the initial purchase of $3.7 trillion in assets was an unusual policy enacted during fairly desperate times, the process of unwinding it is unprecedented.
Simply put, no one is sure if it can be done without spooking markets or causing a recession. Who’s in charge at the Fed could be key to successfully navigating this process, which will take many years.

Should you buy a property when on holiday?
It's that time of year again when thousands of families flee the UK's 'summer' and set off in search of warmer weather, a break from the office and perhaps, for some, a new home.
The Overseas Guides Company offer ten reasons why it can make good sense to buy a holiday home when you're there. They're keen to point out that theynormally advise against buying a home abroad without a huge amount of planning, but there is a place for spontaneity in every life too!
With British families heading off to the sunshine over the next couple of months, many will idly glance into foreign estate agent windows and find themselves wondering “what if?” and then “why not?” Some will return to the UK packing the deeds of a new home into their suitcase. Is that wise?
As one the UK's foremost campaigners for buying safely in the sun, you might be expecting Property Guides to warn you off buying a holiday home when you're actually on holiday. And indeed there are many reasons not to buy a property when you're in that relaxed mode, far from home, feeling warm and relaxed (and you've possibly had an extra glass of wine with your lunch). And of course, a lot of people have made money from selling timeshares to people on the seashore.
However, there are also perfectly sensible reasons for buying a holiday home when you're actually on holiday. Here are ten of them:
The “sniff test”
Multi-millionaire property investor James Caan refers to the “sniff test” with a new location, you can see for yourself that it has an intrinsic appeal without needing to listen to any salesman's patter. So why go all the way home, do more research and find yet more places? You could spend many months researching investment locations but if you have to persuade yourself about it it's probably wrong. Gut feeling is also an investment tool too.
If you love it, why wouldn't anyone else? If you are so wowed by a location that you want to buy there, then people like you will probably feel the same when you want to sell. Investors talk a lot about exit strategy, and that's yours right there.
The price of package holidays. Package holiday prices are up 6% across the board this summer, and at Thomas Cook by 9%. You can expect to pay around £1,500 to £4,000 for a family holiday in the sun, while many apartments even on the Mediterranean can be found for £40,000. And you'll get more than 10 holidays out of it.
You CAN have your cake and eat it
When you buy a holiday home you get holidays every summer but keep the home too, for ever. This is what Britain's Foreign Secretary would call having your cake and eating it, or which the Portuguese would call having the sun shining on the threshing floor while it rains on the turnip field.
Cheap mortgages
With interest rates still at record lows, mortgages in all the favourite destinations are at rock bottom rates. They probably won't be by next summer.
Hidden costs
You have already saved the price of going out to look at a location. Each subsequent viewing trip you make if you don't buy now will cost hundreds of pounds in flights, hotels and hire cars before you've even started. Why go all the way home, do more research and find yet more confusing options?
You're buying an appreciating asset (probably)
While there can be a fashion element to resorts, over the long term a prime location in an established resort will nearly always be a good investment. Unlike student property, local neighbourhoods or blocks of flats, there is a whole tourist industry based on keeping your location attractive and appealing – usually well-funded by government and a powerful tourism lobby.
Historically, holiday lets are profitable.
If it's raining and you're playing Monopoly in your holiday apartment, you probably won't lose from putting homes and hotels on your acquisition.
If not now, when?
Let's not pretend that this is really a spontaneous decision. You've always known you want a holiday home in the sun, but the processes seem so complicated, and it's hot, and you're busy… so nothing happens, for year after year. Now you're 90% of the way there, and you have the chance to shock yourself out of your inertia.
First impressions are deep and instinctive
Humans are emotional beings with a lot going on at a subconscious and instinctive level. Did you know that when you first kiss someone you are actually reading their genetic code? Or that when apparently random human friendships are analysed, statistically it is highly likely that you have a family history over generations? If the fates decide that you love a holiday location at first sight, the chances are that you'll love it forever.
Better exchange rate
Before you sign on the dotted line, remember to calculate the exchange rate. The good news is that you will get a much better rate than you are getting for your holiday cash! Call a currency specialist like Smart Currency Exchange to discuss your needs, on +44 207 898 0541 from your holiday location abroad, or on 0808 163 0102 if in the UK. If you are in Spain, pop into one of their offices in the Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol.
For all the good reasons to buy abroad, you should of course be careful.
Do follow these three simple procedures:
- Ensure you are dealing with a reputable estate agent. Proper shop premises are generally safer than someone you meet on the promenade!
-Calculate the cost of repairs into your costs. Around 1.5% of the property value per year is a good rule of thumb, or around €1,875 for €125,000 property.
- Speak to a good lawyer who speaks English and specialises in property. They should be independent of the estate agent or developer.
