What happens when a Jedi Initiate dies?
It cannot always be prevented, the galaxy is a dangerous place, especially for children, and the Jedi are still only mortal.
Accidents happen. Illnesses exist.
Tragedies do too.
The Crèchemasters are highly trained to prevent that, of course, but they too are only mortal. They too can fail.
The death of an Initiate is a heavy burden, for the entire Temple. It doesn't happen often, but when it does it is a heavy burden. It is from that burden that one of the Order's most sacred traditions stems from.
They may die an Initiate, but they will not join the Force without guidance.
When an Initiate dies, they automatically gain the rank of Padawan – no matter their age. They will posthumously be taken in by a Master and be gifted a braid and a lineage. If they already found their crystal and built their saber, these too will be taken care of by their new Master.
Some Masters of such Ghost-Padawans, especially those who had a bond before their passing, will live the following years as if they had a living student. They will not take on another until the Force or they themselves deems them ready, at which point the High Council will hold a honorary Knighting.
Because while the Order might lose an Initiate, no Initiate will ever be left alone.

Do you think all the characters are assholes?
Because i think they are despite their tragic backstories and i also don't think they appreciate Yuu enough, except for maybe the first years
Tumblr media
I mean, the TWST characters are (mostly) inspired by Disney villains... Plus, they’re immature high schoolers still in the process of emotionally maturing. Of course they're not going to be perfect balls of sunshine. They're all going to be rude or have faults in their own ways, but they also have their strengths and charm points. I do call them assholes (lovingly), but I would hesitate to slap a singular label on any of the characters when they're all very well-rounded and morally ambiguous.
On the topic of Yuu, I think it makes sense that most of the cast doesn't really "appreciate" them. To begin with, most of the characters are not the openly sentimental types; they wouldn’t overtly express that gratitude even if it were present. Then we have to consider that Yuu isn't directly involved in their character growth or arcs in most cases; it's often the other characters who are confronting the OB boys or instigating, physically battling them to snap them out of it, and then comforting them afterwards.
As early as book 1, that pattern holds true. Ace is the one that initially pissed Riddle off. Adeuce are dueling Riddle. Ace decks Riddle and claims his last straw. Trey is the one calling out to Riddle as he's losing it. It's the members of Heartslabyul who gather around Riddle when he reawakens following the OB. (I'm not going to go through and list off what happens in every single book, but I'm sure you can think of many other instances... Lilia insulting Leona, Deuce and Epel having the heart-to-heart on the beach, Octavinelle's plot against Jamil, the twins checking up on Azul post-OB, etc.) To me, it feels like it is the boys and their bonds with one another responsible for the change, not Yuu's involvement. Yuu is usually along for the ride and actually does and says very little despite all the fandom jokes about "being the school's unpaid but overworked therapist" or Crowley's shallow claim that Yuu can help the boys learn to cooperate (which feels more like a vague ruse only shown in the prologue to shoehorn Yuu into the plot). There's actually very little in-game that shows them being active in helping the students change for the better. Much of the time, the boys can resolve their own struggles to get along without Yuu being there (like all those pair-ups in book 6–sure, it may have taken a while, but the fact remains that they did eventually resolve their own issues and cooperate without Yuu having to orchestrate for them; this also happens many times in events like Port Fest, Wish Upon a Star, Ghost Marriage, the Halloween events, etc). A very common complaint (at least among English speaking players) is that Yuu isn’t “involved enough” or that they don’t have a big impact on the events of the story. Therefore, most of the boys not feeling close or indebted to Yuu makes sense from their POV. What has Yuu actually and explicitly done to help them? Not much. It’s mainly in individual fan interpretations where Yuu/a Yuusona/an OC in Yuu’s role is actually able to play a more substantial part in each characters’ life and growth. In general, the standard in-game Yuu is more of a "fly on the wall" character that witnesses events unfold rather than someone who plays a large role in each book. The boys are seemingly the main characters, not Yuu. It's just convenient to have Yuu/a blank slate in the story because they, as an outsider, need TWST concepts explained to them (thus making it easier to give exposition to the players who may also be unfamiliar with the information). The first years, by comparison, are closer to Yuu simply because 1) Yuu is implied to be in the same year level as them (so they're more likely to be exposed to one another) and 2) their preestablished relationships with Grim, Ace, and Deuce opens them up more to first year interactions. "Friends of friends", if you will. It makes more sense than Yuu being appreciated and loved by everyone/most people in the main cast of 22ish. (How many people do you know irl that have 22ish significant friends?) They spend the most time together. Everyone else tends to stick to their own groups (with maybe the exception of Heartslabyul, since Yuu is already close with Adeuce). They’re just... not as intimate with Yuu, and therefore not as inclined to find much appreciation for them.
I want to clarify that this doesn’t mean there are zero instances of the characters outside of the first years expressing gratitude toward Yuu. Like, of the OB boys, it’s only Vil who consistently apologizes for the trouble he caused (note though: it’s not specifically to Yuu, but to everyone in the VDC/SDC squad. Yuu is then given prize money from most of the other boys as thanks for letting them crash at Ramshackle… Of those, only Kalim cites being grateful that he was able to stay and have fun with everyone because of Yuu green lighting the decision. This makes sense, as Kalim’s one of the few who wears his heart on his sleeve and is friendly to most. It just isn’t true for the majority of the cast, and we shouldn’t expect it to be.
As late as book 5, you can see characters like Leona not being so happy to be called out to or for Grim to act all buddy-buddy with him. That indicates to me that the rest of the cast is not that close to Yuu + related parties and doesn't have a real reason to be. (Note: I'm not counting character voice lines here as proof of friendliness with Yuu, as it can be argued that the relationships and events explored in the cards don't run in tandem with the main story and are meant more as fanservice for the players.)
Again, while it's not that fun to read in a narrative, it does leave things open-ended for anyone who wants to self-insert or to expand on those blank relationships for their own characters. I believe this is by design to appeal on an individual level to players. You get out of it what you put into it!

(For some reason I am tempted to combine the day 1 and day 6 promps (Reunion, Soulmate, Family, Past, Present, and Our Future) for Danstelle Week because it's just too fitting for this au idea that is currently stuck in my mind.)
***
So
Reincarnation, Dragon's Bride AU (somewhat inspired from Goblin and See You in My 19th Life Kdrama. I am mostly taking some concepts from those shows since I haven't watch the whole thing yet and only read the synopsis and some bits of spoilers) with a dash of "experiencing a glimpse of a past/future event related to their soulmate in a dream or something before and after meeting them (the glimpses before their meeting is more vague than when they meet)", irl elements and other stuffs
The whole High Cloud Quintet fiasco happened (some details might be tweaked a bit and past Stelle is there) and leads to Dan Feng being reborn as Dan Heng but somehow lives longer than the usual Vidyadhara lifespan before their natural hatching rebirth and the only way to break free from his past life's punishment is for the Dragon's Bride to pull out the Sword impaled on him (Blade's sword to reference him getting stabbed by said sword before his IL transformation), though there is some consequences after pulling the sword out. Currently acting as a guardian, helping around and protecting the people when necessary.
Stelle has the ability to see ghosts and such, and she can recall some bits and pieces of all her past lives except for her first life which will eventually be revealed to her (spoiler: It’s her involvement with the Quintet). In her current life, she stayed at Herta Station before getting magically transported to the Luofu. As for where she's staying at in the Luofu, I'm currently leaning towards the Alchemy Commission so she can spend time with Bailu.
Still trying to decide who will be the Grim Reaper in this story (it's between Blade or Jing Yuan but I'm currently leaning towards Jing Yuan)
When Dan Heng and Stelle finally meet it's either the CPR Scene Luofu edition or Marriage Proposal at first sight
Tying in the soulmate aspect, Stelle gets glimpses of Dan Heng's past (including his life/s before Dan Feng) and Dan Heng gets glimpses of Stelle's future (at some point it's the other way around)
As they spend time together with all the banters and whatnot with the Grim Reaper tagging along, they discovered more stuffs related to their previous lives and the people involved in it. (Bonding moments go brrrr)
(Under the cut contains some hinted spoilers for the aforementioned kdramas)
Eventually the High Cloud Quintet reunites once more and after a series of trials and tribulations, they all get the closure they rightfully deserved. Jingliu and Blade eventually paid their price (which leads to Jingliu being granted eternal peace and Blade his permanent rest in death), and now it's Dan Heng's turn to pay his price with Stelle's help.
When the time came where Stelle knew about the truth behind Stelle's ability to recall her memory of her past lives (she was cursed with that ability due to what happened to her before her death in her first life and her response to it), the truth behind the sword impaled on Dan Heng and its consequences once she pulls the sword out (she only knows the history and the fact that pulling out the sword causes Dan Heng to die), and Dan Heng finding out the fact that pulling the sword might cost her her own life, they avoided each other for quite a while until one side wants the other back (Dan Heng). (Poor Grim Reaper has to deal with that whole ordeal while checking on Bailu)
Several things happened to Bailu and other people Stelle once knew in her past live(s) and reconnected with (for Bailu, it has something to do with the Assassins and her treatment process for the patients experiencing some troubles. For others it's either sickness or bad luck situations), and when she was faced against those Assassins alone with Bailu, that's where she and Dan Heng reunite after a while of avoiding him (as he rushed to help her, he turns into his IL form in her eyes like in Ichor of 2 Dragons. He cannot let anyone hurt his sister and his wife). Cue the much needed conversation after the battle later on and a love declaration communicated without words.
Once Stelle and Dan Heng is ready to have the sword pulled out from Dan Heng's body, they said their goodbyes to Bailu (they won't be seeing her for a long time) along with those they reconnected with and thanked the Grim Reaper for the time spent together. They then went to the place where the curse first befall upon them (the place where it all began). The Grim Reaper was there in the distance to ensure the whole process went smoothly without any interruption. They shared a few intimate moments and reassured each other that one day, they will meet again in the next life. As Stelle finally pulled out the sword despite the struggle (imagine the scene in Legend of Zelda where Link's hp got drained when he pulls out the Master Sword but it's not like Dan Heng lied down as Stelle stand up to pull out the sword. No. They both kneel down during the whole process. Also, Dan Heng's in his IL form here) and said, "it all ends now", they took one last look at each other before they lie down to the realm of slumber. The Grim Reaper proceeds to reap their souls and prepares to give them the next life that they rightfully deserved as it marks his last job as a Grim Reaper.
"The curse is lifted. They finally broke free of their past. Everything is now coming to a close in the present. Time flies by until the perfect moment for the two souls to blaze their paths that leads them starward and become each other's future."

(Reunion scene is on the way but it won't be that soon)

so. podcast reccomendations
putting this under a read more it got l o n g
Ones i have listened to -
*Inkwyrm - COMPLETE, My ultimate fav podcast ever -id listen to the original first ep before the first ep redo cause i think it kinda makes more sense idk, Putting up with her boss is hard enough, but with the cutthroat fashion industry, and whatever is trying to kill everyone today, Mella and the gang have their hands full. One part sit-com, one part space opera.
*Kaleidotrope - COMPLETE, the cutest fucking shit ever filled with tropes and gayass idiots, The plot centers around Drew and Harrison, two reluctant college radio co-hosts-turned-accidental-advice-givers who find themselves in the middle of the campus’s oldest mystery: Do happy endings really happen at Sidlesmith? Can you really find your trope?
*Hell or High Rollers - 11 eps so far! dnd podcast but very rp based much less mechanic based /pos,  A table top role play podcast following the adventures of 4 Villains and their attempt to escape eternal damnation. theyre trying to escape hell and they have to get through all nine layers before they can!!
The Beacon - season 3 coming, After surviving a dangerous encounter with a monster, Bee discovers she has the magical ability to control fire. Confused and with no heroic aspirations, she reaches out online to try and find others with impossible powers like hers - but finding them is only half the battle. only listened to a few eps of this but its v enjoyable
Girl in Space - season 2 coming, Nothing fancy here -- just the simple audio diary of a girl in space. Also, there’s this weird and potentially ominous light in the distance that seems to be growing steadily closer. fun space stuff!
Violet Beach - COMPLETE, On New Year's Day, 2018, the lives of seven friends in the town of Violet Beach, Maryland, change forever. As weird sci-fi happenings become less "fi" and more reality every day, they begin keeping record of their experiences. These are those records. dont remember much abt the content (listened to it a long time ago lmao) but i remember enjoying it v much
Overkill - COMPLETE(?), After 19-year-old Aya Velasquez died mysteriously in Harding Park, no one seemed to care. At least not until a preteen medium accidentally summoned Aya herself to solve the mystery. With no memory of her death and no shortage of questions, Aya must make friends with her fellow ghosts and discover the truth behind the nation's most haunted park. v cool ghost shit but not horrory and also gay
Midnight Radio - COMPLETE, Drawing inspiration from 1950s radio serials and ghost stories, Midnight Radio follows two women finding love through an unlikely correspondence about community, leaving your small hometown, our relationship to the past, what it means to be haunted, and what we leave behind when we die. Remember: all ghost stories are love stories.
Death by Dying - season 2 in progress(?) The Obituary Writer of Crestfall, Idaho finds himself deeply in over his head as he investigates a series of strange and mysterious deaths… when he is supposed to simply be writing obituaries. Along the way he encounters murderous farmers, man-eating cats, haunted bicycles, and a healthy dose of ominous shadows. nightvale esque with a weird lil town, fun concept cool characters, the obituary writer is on the podcast tumblr like all the time and is v nice sauifgdsukf
36 Questions - COMPLETE, musical podcast! bit :/ cause its like got real celebs n shit in it but its good!!!!, In a last-ditch attempt to salvage their crumbling marriage, a couple uses the 36 questions—an experiment known for making strangers fall in love—to save their own relationship.
Directive - 2 seasons, when this came out the tumblr for the podcast messaged people to ask them to listen to it skjdfgdsk, listen to all of part 1 all at once, i didnt know there was a season two so idk abt that but this is sad so just bear that in mind , A Sci Fi series about a man stuck alone for 20 years, taking care of sleeping passengers on a ship to colonize a new planet.
*Love and Luck - hiatus since 2020 possibly finished, Love and Luck is a fictional radio play podcast, told via voicemails.  It’s a slice of life queer romance story with a touch of magic. very cute and nice and lighthearted
Dining in The Void - season 3 coming, When six alien celebrities are trapped onboard a space station, they will have to work together to survive--or die at the hands of an unknown monster. pretty sure i was/am mutuals (or sth) w someone who voice acts in this which i didnt know when i started listening, heavy themes i think kinda
Raising the Dead Again - indefinate hiatus, Raising the Dead Again is a triweekly podcast that follows a young, modern-day necromancer - a young man by the name of Quincy Bejanaro - before, during, and after making the biggest mistake of his life: resurrecting long-dead adventurers. really really loved this one sad theres only 9 eps :( and the story is unfinished
some of these do not have great input from me bc i listened to them years ago n my memory is garbage - starred ones are my favourites, pink is my opinion, italics are official descriptions
other ones i love but Do Not Reccomend are king falls am and eos 10 bc the creators r stupid ass losers and also the last season of eos 10 is so fucking stupid lmao

hi friends, i’m 24f she/her, looking for someone similar in age (18+ required, absolutely no minors, preferably 20+) who loves fantasy, monsters, romance, and loooong lengthy replies. i’ve been writing for the past 15+ years with dreams of one day being published, and have been roleplaying for the past 10+ years, though i’ve been on an extended hiatus. i’m recently quit my job (living in EST) so my schedule is pretty open to start writing together! Even though i have a lot of new free time, i do have a partner and responsibilities, and am also aware of burnout, real life, and mental health so never be afraid to pull the breaks for a few days, weeks, or months if we need to but please communicate that. i almost exclusively write medieval high fantasy, but also enjoy historical fiction (absolutely nothing modern ie. 1930's onward) and lately have been into zombie apocalypses as i’m rewatching twd. i only work with originals, ocxoc, but am open to playing with a canon universe as long as we make it our own! i’m mainly looking for mxm and mxf romance since that’s what i have the most experience with, but i am lgbtq+ friendly. i prefer a partner who is open to writing a wide range of characters, not just female ocs or “submissive” types, just to ensure we keep the threads fresh for both of us. i’m more than happy to double and work on multiple threads as well. i like a heavy emphasis on troubled characters with real flaws, trauma, and their subsequent development, exploring interesting relationship dynamics both healthy and toxic, and extensive worldbuilding + magic systems. customized discord servers, fanart, headcanons, drawn maps of our worlds, couples playlists, pinterest boards–you name it, i love it and am here for it.
concepts in mind; while i don’t have any set plots, characters, or worlds (i generally enjoy figuring this out organically with my partner) there are some things that i like to write and cliches i love to see. Anything with fae, monsters, demons and witches, interesting takes on vampires + werewolves, i’m here for! i love fairytale retellings and mythology, and playing with religious motifs and inspiration (think paradise lost). themes of rebellion, war-torn kingdoms, corrupt monarchies, prophecies, racing against the clock to defeat eldritch world-ending monsters, dark overlords, magic always has a price, everyone is living on borrowed time just to name a few. when it comes to romance tropes, you can never go wrong with enemies to lovers, soulmates, forbidden romance, arranged/forced marriage, hidden identity, the hero falls for the villain. i foam at the mouth for soft ocs that snap and go feral, not a god’s chosen but a god’s cursed, the found family out of a band of ragtag misfits, complex villains who are actual people, i could literally go on for hours.
other tidbits; i don’t write canon characters or with fandoms, but i do enjoy my fair share of shows, books, and video games! i'm open to taking inspiration from any of them, so i’ll list a few if it helps give a better idea of what i’m into and possible interests we might share–
shows/movies: game of thrones + house of the dragon, outlander, the walking dead, pride and prejudice, stranger things, lotr, twilight
books: a court of thorns and roses + throne of glass, six of crows + shadow and bone, the night circus, and many more
games: animal crossing, legend of zelda, the sims, dragon age, stardew valley, the last of us
contact; if you are interested in any of this, like this post and i'll message you or comment with your discord username and i'll add you

(Archive) Animated movie of the day(2): Ghost in the Shell (Kōkaku Kidōtai, 1995)
Originally Posted: January 8th, 2022 Now that we discussed a bit of Katsuhiro Otomo's cyberpunk epic let's go back for a bit to Mamoru Oshii. And keeping with the early to mid 90's wave of anime in America, let's talk about what many consider his magnun opus. It shares quite a few things with Akira: it's cult classic status, it's futuristic setting, the exploration of complex themes, being a source of inspiration for films like The Matrix and flat out being quite misunderstood by the some of the mainstream market. When people see Kaneda do that famous motorcycle slide or Major Motoko Kusanagi kick a criminal while invisible with water droplets in the air they're quick to think that movie's gonna be something high on style and prominently badass. That wasn't the case on Akira and it's specially not the case here.
This movie is slow paced, bordering on lethargic at points. While the art direction and animation are an absolute delight, a good chunk of the film is quiet, contemplative and simply letting the viewer think about the concepts it introduces. Concepts that, albeit in different form as they were shown and first thought back in the 90's, are today being discussed as the next potential step in the technological revolution. And this is nothing to say of it's philosophical discussion: this film has one of the most powerful, sobering and nightmarish scenes of existential angst and dread in anime history because of it's elaborate discussion on the concept of identity. The metaphysical value of the soul, whether the reality we experience is actually real, transhumanism, it just goes hard with the questions that many are afraid to ponder upon.
All of this is enhanced by the beautifully haunting score by Kenji Kawai, who deliberately made a mismatch of instrumentation and composition to illustrate the marriage of the organic with the mechanical. This is, once again, not a popcorn flick. It is, however, transfixing once it sinks it's teeth.

What are your thoughts on Abjuration Wizard, as a concept and a philosophy? Beliefs that stick out to you, concepts for characters and stories, so on.
Ooh, one of my two favourite wizards (along with Illusion)! I adore abjuration as a school of magic. Survival, protection, balance, restoration (although wizards get less of this last element, most of the restorative abjuration spells are more in the cleric/druid/bard/paladin wheelhouse). Of course, I’m slightly biased, because I a) love spellcasting, and b) love tanks, so abjuration as a school is the perfect marriage. Magic for survivability! I also love clerics, so the idea of a school of magic whose main purpose is to preserve life is excellent to me. And a third strand, I adore … paranormal investigation? As a genre? Exorcism, laying ghosts, restoring balance. Things like Mushishi and Mononoke, shows like that. So abjuration’s whole ‘refute the extraplanar’ element also appeals mightily to me, combined with a wizard’s investigation element.
And, also, the thing I love with wizard subclasses is the conscious element that goes into choosing your school. In-character, I mean. Sorcerers are born/made with whatever flavour of power they have. Wizards must consciously choose. So it’s an element of your character. What made you choose this type of magic, and why? What sort of person chooses or feels the need for the most protective school of wizard magic? To protect themselves, to survive? To protect others? To restore order and balance to a world torn up by other magics? To defend your plane from foreign incursion? What about abjuration, of all the schools, drew you to bend your focus and your intellect towards it?
With abjuration as a school, there is very much a ‘return to centre’ sort of feeling and philosophy. Not so much negation as mitigation. Someone lashes force out into the world, you tone it back down to something survivable. Balance, balance is very much a theme. Something like the monk’s stillness, perhaps even a spirituality. The world lashes out, and you help guide it back to centre.
And perhaps there’s a more authoritative element? Perhaps you were inspired to mitigate the damage your fellow spellcasters, or planar entities, can do. Perhaps you view yourself as … maybe not a magical policeperson (though possibly that) but something more like a wild west sheriff? It’s chaos out there. Maybe it needs a little bit of help to settle down, and you can provide that.
It might not even be that you’re out there challenging other casters/creatures to their faces. Maybe you just want to build more protections in general. Wards and shields, on places and people. Perhaps there’s a bit of a builder in you, you like to make things solid and permanent and protected.
Or is it raw survival? You’ve got a toolkit meant to mitigate whatever is thrown at you. Without the more restorative elements of the school that, say, clerics get, you’re much more prevention than cure. There’s a certain pragmatism in abjuration. A stitch in time saves nine. It’s not flashy or fancy, but it’ll keep you ticking where other wizards drop. Did that come from confidence, generosity? To extend protection out into the world? To keep others as well as yourself up? Or was it raw need and fear, the determination to keep yourself up? I’m sure abjurers get accusations of cowardice, picking the school you can most hide behind. Maybe there’s some truth to that? After all, a significant chunk of the subclass abilities are about personal protection and staying up …
Or maybe it’s just that you have seen some of the things that happen out there. Maybe you’ve seen demon incursions. Maybe you’ve seen the more insidious sorts of magic. Maybe you just wanted a toolkit that would let you handle it, on your own or others’ behalf.
At the base level, abjuration is the school of magic that provides protection. So what you want to think about is how your character views that protection, why they wanted it, why they needed it, and what they plan to use it for. Your school is a conscious choice, wizards have to choose what they study, what they pursue. So why did you pick protection, above everything else that magic can do? Do you know, fully? Do you understand why you wanted it? Or have you got it nailed down and bullet-pointed in your head? Was it fear? Pragmatism? Ideal? What do you need protection from, what do you want to provide protection for?
God I love this school. It and illusion, divination following a close third. Abjuration rocks.

December 31: WIPs and Ideas I'm Taking Into 2023
As the year is ending, I am considering what writing projects I will try to complete next year. Will 2023 be the year I finish my WIPs? Will it at least be the year I let go of WIPs I don't care about? We'll see.
Here are (most of) my current projects and ideas--T100 only because I don't feel brave enough to even address Star Trek or other fandoms. Let's see where I am at the end of 2023.
devil's gonna get me one of these days: Southern Gothic AU; ensemble and multi-pairing; vampires, ghosts, and secrets
Troped Madness Horror Round: Harper-centric, epistolary/found footage-y
Talk About Timing in Times Like These: Bellarke, Modern AU, exes to lovers, heavy on the bitterness
And They Lived: aka the Ark Sleeping Beauty AU, Bellarke with a lot of other stuff going on
A Watch With No Hands: parts 3 and 4, the continuation of my 2019 Bellarke Big Bang, Grounder Clarke, Arker Bellamy, canon divergence
The Poly Fic: endgame Bravenlarke, modern AU, what it says on the tin
Can't Be King of the World: aka my long (long) percolating Ark AU, ensemble and multi-pairing with a lot of Wells
Sky Village: canon-divergence with rare pairs, independent delinquent village feels
Blake Siblings Summer AU: ...this is a Pete & Pete AU, if I'm brave enough to write it
Slow Summer Vibes: one step up from a PWP, Bellarke in the heat of summer
Under the Western Stars: more Bellarke modern AU angst nonsense
Kiss the Ring: canon-divergent Becho, in which they are both brutal, ruthless leaders
Jonty Dual Timeline: part modern AU, part canon-divergence, heavily S3 inspired
Sequel to How I'll Spend Through Winter: more Bellarke UST and longing, this time in high school, some Princess Mechanic
Bellarke Bingo Love Potion: Bellamy runs an antique store. Clarke takes a love potion. There's magic involved.
Dawson's Creek AU: endgame Bellarke and Murven, and in the meantime, a faithful AU for no reason at all
Documentary History of the U.S.S.S Arkadia: expanded version of my Braven fic of the same name
Reality Bites AU: as it says; Bellarke
Dollhouse AU: also as it says, ensemble/Bellarke, Bellamy as Echo and Clarke as Ballard...sort of
autumnverse fic: eternal-autumn type universe with ghosts!
oh well you've got me under your spell: an old Bellarke HS AU I always wanted to continue
Bellarke Bingo Blast: trope-heavy Bellarke friends to lovers; embarrassing how many modern AUs are on this list
South: Murven road trip that I started ages ago and might continue?
Everyone Gets Married: mostly Jonty with some Bellarke, sappy romance stuff and perhaps some talk about the concept of marriage
Bellarke Beat AU: this is from 2016, enough said
Maya & Octavia Troped: canon-divergence, post S2
Miller/Bryan Troped: canon-divergence, sometime in S3; more a universe than a plot but like an exes thing
Bellarke Invents Soulmates: triple-timeline, reincarnation and soulmates (former Troped round)
Miller/Bellamy Road Trip: but also they're on the run from the law, danger and UST
T100 + 3% Fusion: Princess Mechanic; 3%-like plot but in T100's universe
Fantasy Heist: delinquents on a magical hunt to save one of their own, still working out the kinks on the universe. And the plot (former Troped round)
Kane/Luna Ark AU: exes and magic and hints of political intrigue perhaps; horror
Slasher: half-baked old Troped Horror idea, heavy on the tropes, and I suppose on the bloodshed
Camping Trip Meta Horror: some horror tropes in the woods
Tropical Horror: something about this island isn't right
Troped Horror 2022: the fic I didn't finish because I thought it was going in a bad direction. Only hints: another slasher, Octavia-centric
Party Fic: Indulgent, stylized, multi-pairing HS AU
Modern Band AU: Bellarke and other pairings, rival bands, minor genre/form experimentation
...I didn't specify but some of these are one-shots and some multi-chapters and if a multi-chap isn't started, I can only promise to start, not finish it in 2023

Black Velvet Ribbon [Seventeen Fanfic]
Nothing special, just a short thing I felt inspired to write today. I might delete it from here later on.
It's only about 2.5 k words.
Including Seventeen members, especially Mingyu, and about 3 original characters.
It's more like a comedy and fluff, so don't get too excited. 😂
Tumblr media
Black Velvet Ribbon
Godiva insisted on the horse ride, even when Freya warned her that the guests would arrive soon.
“So what? You have a housekeeper here. Mrs. Watkins knows what to do and she will give them a proper welcome and show them around even if you can’t be there.” Godiva smiled and pulled her sister’s arm.
Freya reluctantly followed her to the stables. Ever since Godiva married, she became more laidback and carefree. It was as if she grew younger. Which was a paradox because her husband was actually 16 years older than Godiva. And yet she blossomed in this marriage. Freya would never guess it could happen to her eldest sister out of all people. Godiva used to be overly strict and uptight, she had to be. Now she laughed often, her eyes sparkled with joy and it was clear to see she was in love with her husband. Freya was happy for Godiva and her happiness. However, sometimes she felt a little envious about it. Freya knew she wasn’t destined for anything like this ever happening to her for various reasons.
Freya pulled herself up to the saddle of her black mare she named Lucrecia and looked at the sky. “It’s about to rain, Godiva.” She noticed the heavy grey clouds above.
“And you are worried because you are made of sugar and could melt in the rain?” Godiva asked sarcastically when she got seated in the saddle of her pearly white stallion Lancelot, the gift from her husband.
Freya rolled her eyes. Godiva would be the first one to concern about appearance in the past. She wouldn’t go for a horse ride before the visit and especially not in stormy weather. That day she challenged Freya for a race.
Wonwoo was naturally picked as a driver of the second car due to him having an international driving licence. He was humming as he was watching the road and occasionally checking the GPS. It wasn’t necessary, though. He only needed to follow the mini van in front of him. He assumed that the manager driving knew where they were heading. It was supposed to be some old creepy mansion at the end of the world, or better say a small island in the far north of Scotland. The company picked the place as a perfect setting for their new music video but Wonwoo would prefer something closer to home.
Joshua was sitting on the passenger seat next to Wonwoo and he looked outside the window reading the road sign. He nodded and opened up a brochure all members of Seventeen were given but Wonwoo doubted anybody actually read it.
“Crowcall Hall was built in 1678 by Lady Sybil Marion Arran,” Joshua started reading out loud. “It’s situated on a Crow Isle in the North Sea, in between Orkney Isles and Shetlands. Currently the entire population of the island lives in the Crowcall Hall, which is the only house suitable for whole year inhabitation. The village Hollow Crow was abandoned in 1922 after the local population of sheep stock suffered from disease and was slaughtered completely. Locals had no other source of income and they left the island and moved away. The Crow Isle was completely abandoned until 2020 when the heiress of the estate and current owner of the entire Crow Isle, came to the estate and started with renovations.”
Joshua looked outside and noticed they were closing to the abandoned village of Hollow Crow. It looked rather bleak and scary. “What exactly is supposed to be the concept of this comeback? World after some disaster?” Joshua whispered as if the ghosts of people who left this place could hear him.
“Don’t panic,” Mingyu spoke from the backseat. “I assume the company wouldn’t let us sleep in a ruin. Does it say anything about the house and its current state?”
Joshua looked into his materials and turned a few pages, skipping the grim history of the island. “Here it is. It says that Crowcall Hall was completely renovated and it’s planned to serve as a hotel for prominent guests.”
“That’s us!” Mingyu called happily.
“I think we are the first guests after the renovation was completed. Maybe we are supposed to be the guinea pigs and test it.” Minghao noticed and opened the roof window of the car. He watched the heavy clouds getting darker and inhaled cold air mixed with the scent of wet soil and salty sea. It felt refreshing and he already liked this place. Maybe it didn’t look pretty but the wild and uncivilised beauty of nature appealed to him more.
“Here goes my hairstyle.” Mingyu growled when the wind filled the car. He opened the window on his side as it was already late to save anything and looked around. They were going through a wasteland of moors.
“We are going to arrive at the house soon,” Wonwoo announced.
Mingyu ignored him as he spotted a peculiar thing on the moors. Two horses were running fast in the distance, their riders encouraging them to run even faster. Mingyu squinted to see better. The riders were two women. One riding a white horse, wearing white clothes and her golden hair in two long braids flowing behind her. The other was her complete opposite - black horse carried a woman dressed in black with her dark hair loosely tied up. Mingyu unfastened the seatbelt and stood up on the seat to look out through the roof window.
“Hey, hey! Be seated, mate! We are still moving.” Wonwoo called.
Mingyu couldn’t hear him as his ears were full of wind blowing fast and he stared at the two girls on horses riding towards the storm. He noticed a stone wall standing ahead of them and the next second he watched both the horses flying above it as if they had wings. They easily jumped over the stone wall and galloped towards a large noble mansion. Mingyu assumed it was the Crowcall Hall and his heart skipped realising they have to live there as the rest of the island is not inhabited. He will meet them there!
Freya and Godiva arrived back to the stables laughing. They jumped down onto the ground and the stable groom took horses from them. Freya had to bend, she was hardly catching her breath after such a ride.
“You need to practise more.” Godiva laughed. She seemed utterly fine with such a tempo and her cheeks grew only slightly pink, while Freya felt as if hers were catching on fire and she felt sweat streaming down her spine underneath her thick black clothes.
“I was wondering where you two disappeared.” The deep and calm voice belonged to Simon Archer, Duke of Yewbow, Godiva’s handsome husband and the head of the UK’s Secret Intelligence Service. He could hardly become any more perfect. Freya didn’t like him at first as he seemed cold and reserved at first sight. It was his professional mask and once he felt comfortable enough to drop it, it turned out that Simon was actually a bright and fun companion.
“I needed to move!” Godiva smiled at her husband and draped her arms around his neck offering him her lips for a kiss.
Simon instinctively placed his hands on her hips and smiled at her. “I should be concerned that horse rides make you feel horny.” He whispered against Godiva’s lips before kissing her. He lifted his head with his chest heaving. “I’m not concerned enough to say no to you.”
Godiva giggled, grabbed his hand and pulled him inside.
“Your guests arrived!” Simon called Freya over his shoulder. “They are settling in, there were no problems.” He managed to say before Godiva dragged him into the house.
Freya nodded and decided not to imagine what Godiva and Simon are going to do for the upcoming hour or two. She reached her hair to fix them with the black ribbon she put in this morning. “Oh no!” Freya realised she had to lose the ribbon while riding. It was her favourite one. It was black velvet ribbon decorated with silver embroidery and rimmed with black lace and white pearls. It was a gift from her sister Grace and Freya was deeply attached to it. She should go welcome the guests but she’s already late, nothing will change if she looks for the ribbon first now.
Freya started to go back her tracks and hoped the ribbon fell off somewhere near. She was searching on the pavement around the stables but there was not a trace of it. Freya moved to the garden through which they rode back. Searching in the grass was a bit more difficult. She bent down and brushed through the wet grass with her fingers but she found nothing. “Where are you, you blasted thing?” She moaned for herself. If she lost it somewhere on the moors, she will never find it. Why did she even agree to race with Godiva?
“Are you looking for this?”
Freya turned quickly to the unfamiliar voice and stood in front of a handsome, tall, dark stranger. He was holding her black ribbon in between his long slender fingers and swaying with it temptingly.
“Ah! Yes!” Freya tried to grab the ribbon but he lifted up above his head. She couldn’t reach there. Freya wasn’t exactly short but he was still taller. “It is mine.” She said and looked into his dark gleaming eyes.
“How can I be sure? Close your eyes and describe it in detail to me. If your description fits, I will trust you it’s yours.” He said with a slight cheeky smile.
Freya frowned. What kind of game is he playing here? She would start to argue with him but something in his eyes told her that it would be quicker to play by his rules than to try to put him in his place. At least for now. Freya rolled her eyes before closing them. “It’s a black velvet ribbon,” she started with the description and tried to recall all the tiniest details.
Mingyu smirked and started circling her. He was checking her thoroughly while she was describing the piece of hair accessories. She was relatively tall, Mingyu would guess her to be over 170 cm tall, she was slender, maybe too much for his taste. Her cheeks were still burning from the horse ride and her dark brown hair was falling down her back like a dark chocolate waterfall. She was wearing a thick black turtleneck, black tight riding trousers and black riding boots. She was clearly nervous because Mingyu noticed her fingers shaking a little. He stopped behind her back and started to divide her hair into three streams. He nearly chuckled when she twitched and gasped. “Carry on, don’t stop.” He told her, the black ribbon hanging on his neck while he started to braid her hair.
“And I don’t know how to put this more clearly but it’s a black velvet ribbon and it’s mine.” She finished at the same time Mingyu was done braiding. He fixed the end of the braid with her black ribbon and then put it on her chest so she could see her ribbon back in her hair. “You convinced me,” Mingyu whispered to her ear, fanning it with his hot breath.
She stepped away from him and turned to face him. “But you didn’t convince me, sir.”
“We just met,” Mingyu said calmly and stepped closer to her again, “give me a bit more time.”
“Please, be a gentleman!” Freya took a step back again.
“Make me!” He dared her while walking towards her again.
Freya kept on walking backwards but then she hit a tree trunk and couldn’t escape. “You shouldn’t do this.” She said.
“What exactly am I doing? We are just talking, aren’t we?” Mingyu put his hands on the tree around her head and caged her there.
“I won’t talk to a man who’s not a gentleman, sir.” Freya replied and pressed her lips.
Mingyu looked into her baby blue eyes. Then he stepped away from her. “I beg your pardon, ma’am. Please allow me to escort you back to the house. The weather in the garden is too cold today.” He declared, half serious, half sarcastic. He offered her his arm so she could hook into it.
Freya watched him with mixed feelings. It would look ridiculous if she refused and walked on her own to the house while he would go in the same direction. She took a deep breath and hooked her arm with his. They walked through the garden together and Freya could feel his eyes on her face. She made sure not to make eye contact with him again. His eyes were making her nervous in a completely new and unknown way. Her skin felt like buzzing with electricity and she felt her ears burning. It was foolish! There was no reason for her to have a dry mouth right now. Freya instinctively licked her lips and heard his breath getting stuck for a second. She made a promise to herself never ever to make eye contact with him and lick her lips again. Who is he, anyway? One of the guests, obviously. Why did she even agree to have some korean boy band here? She was doing a favour to her sister Victoria who married a Korean idol and actor and lived in Seoul with him, that was why. These family ties were causing her troubles lately. First Godiva made her lose her ribbon and now Victoria indirectly made Freya feel the entire zoo in her stomach because of this mysterious stranger on her arm.
They finally arrived in the house and Freya jumped away from him as if she was stung by a wasp. “I’m sorry! I haven’t introduced myself.”
“Neither did I.” He said. “My name is Mingyu. Nice to meet you.”
“Mingyu… Right! I’m doct… I’m lady Freya Arran. Welcome to Crowcall Hall. I hope you have a pleasant stay. Now excuse me. I have to check something in the kitchen.” Freya made a curtsey which was unnecessary and she felt like a complete fool afterwards.
Mingyu played along, though and bowed to her deeply and theatrically. She quickly left, nearly running to the kitchen.
“Here you are!” Joshua stepped to Mingyu. “We have wondered where you went. Now I see you were searching for chicks again. Who is it?”
“She said she was lady Freya Arran.” Mingyu replied and he reluctantly followed Joshua to reunite with his members.
“Seriously? You are on a hunt for 10 minutes and hit on the owner of this entire island? Man! I wish I knew your tricks!” Joshua laughed.
“I didn’t know that…” Mingyu said lost in his thoughts. So she was the owner of this place. Why would she go all the way to search for such a trinket when she could clearly afford to buy hundreds of ribbons? Was it a sentimental thing for her? Was it a gift? A gift from a man? A gift from someone she loved? And that someone wasn’t Mingyu. For some reason it felt like a truly bitter pill to swallow. Jealousy? Why should Mingyu be jealous? He barely knows the woman. He has no right to become jealous. And yet he felt the thorny spike of jealousy hurting him deep down.

I finally got to play the Ghost Marriage event and all I can think of was: 👏Brides👏maid👏Raven-San👏 throws the bouquet of flowers to distract Eliza!(may or may not hit someone in the face with the bouquet) Catch’s the bouquet at the end of it!
I even made fanart:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope you had fun playing Ghost Marriage (or “The Phantom Bride”, as EN calls it! ^^
dbjssbjendnd I do wonder what Miss Raven’s up to while the ghosts are taking over campus and preparing for the wedding… Probably trapped in some office filing incidence reports to document what’s been happening, and praying that no one dies because imagine having to explain that to then parents/guardians.
Maybe when Crowley’s getting desperate he yanks her out and says she should infiltrate as a bridesmaid and change out the regular ring for the ring of severance 😂 “… I’d obviously stick out like a sore thumb, being the only non-ghost in the wedding entourage.” “We won’t know until you try!!” Maybe her vignettes can be about singing to the local birds to convince them to help her make her bridesmaid outfit, since Sam said in the event he was all out of stock for wedding items. Then when she crashes the wedding, everyone’s surprised she’s there at all but Raven just complains that she’s overworked and she has to stop this wedding because otherwise the Shroud family might sue NRC into the dirt and that would just be a legal nightmare for her to help the headmaster deal with…
jdjsvsiwkwhdh Maybe she can team up with Ace and talk some sense into Eliza, since Raven understands both sides: the young and naively optimistic love that Eliza has hope in, and the more realistic kind of love that Ace speaks of; the kind of love where your partner isn’t perfect, but is willing to be a work in progress with you. Raven has experienced both kinds, so I think she’d have a lot to say on the matter. Or maybe she just smacks some ghosts around and tells the boys off for making more trouble for her to clean up 🧼 She throws the bouquet at the end and it smacks [redacted] in the face… Use your imagination to insert any character of your choosing into the redacted part 😂
I sketched my own concept for Bridesmaid Raven @w@ but I was half awake while doing it, so the design’s kinda sloppy and could be more coherent 💦 but I figured I’d share anyway! Since a bridesmaid usually complements what the bride wears, I wanted a blue dress with white and gold accents to contrast Eliza’s mostly white outfit with some greys. The clothing also borrows from part of Eliza’s own sleeves, the flowers in her veil, and how the hem of her gown transitions into something floaty.
I think your version is different, but it has its own charm. It definitely has more of a “Raven” than an “Eliza” inspiration, especially with the short gloves, feathered sleeves, and the shorter skirt. I like the addition of the headband to replace her usual hat; her head looks a little empty without an accessory there, huh? djvsjensksev I’m not sure if I entirely understand why Raven is crying in the second image, but at least she’s being comforted sooo 🤔
I just want to quickly advise! 💦 Please ask in advance if it’s okay to create a piece of media with your OC interacting with someone else’s! Not everyone may be comfortable with a person they don’t know that well making their OC(s) engage with (likely) an OC that they also don’t know that well 😅 It’s just something to keep in mind for the future!

I. AM. HERE!!!
OK SO first of all srry abt literally ghosting for like a month. now we're gonna pretend that didn't happen and i'll send here what i would have sent for each chapter so. get ready for a BIG wall of text.
29– tf??? free yn and soobin like???? don't get me wrong i'm glad beomgyu didn't appear again but not like this 😭😭 also hee's friends liking yn more than him. AS THEY SHOULD!!!
30. i'd kiss hee rn if he wasn't dating yn bc HE SAID WHAT NEEDED TO BE SAID!! i love how non-threatening mama kim sounds bc it's all through text but in my head i'm imagining the typical k-drama rich mom getting more and more pissed until her face is so red it looks like it'll explode (kinda wish it did 🤭)
31. love the hees sm. literally the chillest ppl alive. it's so funny how mama kim's plan just. didn't work and she's acting all high and mighty already like??? that's now how it works honey 😊 you're going down AS YOU SHOULD
32. MAMA KIM PRISON ARC??? IDK WHAT I EXPECTED BUT DEF NOT HER GETTING A LIFE SENTENCE 😨😨😨 deserved but like stillll!! also heeyn marriage pls <33333 i love them
NOW ONTO THE FINAL NOTES.
first i have to ask. is soobin ok? and like his family?? bc idk if mama kim was being dramatic when she said his family NEEDED the marriage and i'm kinda worried :(
second. i just love sm how dramatic you made this smau 😭 the way i could picture so many of the scenes cristal clear even though i was just reading texts??? even the dramatic bg music that escalates when things get more serious and ppl start shouting
finally tysm for another great smau <33 i WILL SAY unexpected partners is still my fave bc it was how i started to know you but it's amazing how you can just. make such different stories but have both of them be so great??
PD: i will be checking out other smaus some time in the near future. might be tomorrow might be in 2 weeks bc i clearly have NO concept of time 😨
PD2: i wrote all of this at once and didn't reread it so sorry if it's a bit jumbled together but that's how my brain works </3
Hey, sorry I took some time to reply. I'm on holiday 😂.
I love a long ask let's get into this 😊.
29 - Free Soobin and YN 😂😂😂. So true, they needed to be freed from Mama Kim. Ngl, Beomgyu was gonna make a comeback but then I thought that Soobin would be a better option, low level drama ya know 😂. Obviously Hee's friends like YN more they see the difference in their friend. They see how happy they make each other and they just love to roast Heeseung 😂.
30 - I loved Heeseung taking Mama Kim down thru texts 😂. He did not hold back and I love him for it. Originally I planned for the confrontation to be a written chapter but then changed my mind and I love how the texts turned out. No I love that 😂😂. Mama Kim very much was inspired by kdrama villain mothers. She's a mix of kdrama rich moms and Indian soap opera evil mothers.
31 - The Hee's were my favourite too. I just loved writing the family dynamics this fic. The sibling bond between the Kim's and the Lee's being the chillest ppl in the world. They don't care abt anything as long as their son is happy.
32 - Mama Kim is going to prison for life and she's never coming back 😂😂. The villain gotta be taken down somehow neh. I always planned for marriage to be the endgame for Heeyn and I'm happy with how it turned out.
Final Notes:
Soobin and his family are completely fine. Mama Kim was exaggerating. Soobin's family was going thru it but not to the point that they needed marriage to save the family 😂. Ur like the only person who cared about Soobin, I really have been doing my bias dirty in my fics and I feel so bad abt it 😭😭😭.
That was always the goal. I wanted this smau to be dramatic and over the top. It honestly makes me so happy that you could picture the texts. With the BG music and everything, really makes me very very happy 🤗🤗🤗🤗.
Ah thank you so much for reading my fics 😭😭😭. I love your asks, they make my day whenever I get an ask from you so really I love them more than you do. Unexpected Partners does have a special place in my heart too ❤️❤️.
PD: Check them out whenever you have the time. No rush honestly, if you don't like the story don't read it. Please don't force yourself to read something you don't want to 🥺🥺🥺. All I ask is if you do read any one shot or smau that you send asks, I love them so send those my way please but again no pressure to read everything all at once. Whenever you want, my smaus and one shots aren't going anywhere.
PD 2: It's fine, my brain works that weirdly too. Everything made sense and as I said at the beginning. I love a long ask 😂.
Again sorry it took me some time to reply, I'm on holiday and finding free time and WiFi is a struggle 😂.

Impact of Daily Soaps on Indian Society:
Daily soaps play an essential role in the life of Indian families. There is at least one family member in every family who regularly watches Hindi or Bengali serials. There are several TV channels and daily soaps. Channels also telecast reality shows, movies, sports, cartoons, music channels, comedy shows, dance and singing shows, besides daily soaps. A few famous channel brands include Star entertainment (Star Plus, Star Gold, Star Jalsha-Bengali,), Sony Entertainment (Sony, Sony Max,) Zee Television (Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zee Bangla), Colors entertainment and many more.
Daily soaps have both a positive and negative impact on their audience. However, the negatives are always more influential in comparison to the positive aspects. Some shows give individuals opportunities to showcase their talents and share their knowledge—for example, the TED talk show, KBC, and many more.
How are daily soaps impacting the audience negatively?
Daily soaps become like an addiction to their audience. Many people invest hours watching the television, avoiding their other works, also not thinking about how it is harming the health of their eyes.
Most of the daily soaps are women-centric but in a negative manner. The leading actress is in trouble most of the time. They are portrayed as victims of torture, and the one who has to go through all the struggles possible to show on television. The audiences sometimes start adapting to those ideas and apply them to real life.
Daily soaps portray unethical behaviour, such as extramarital affairs, mixing poison in the food and feeding it, multiple murders, violence on women, and many other types of unethical behaviours.
Daily soaps also portray illogical aspects such as ghosts, multiple marriages, rebirth, memory loss after some accident, and gaining it back again all of a sudden without any medical relevancy and whatnot.
All these concepts can be negatively influential towards society. Many people count the actor or actresses as their inspiration and try to portray real life behaviours. The young children are affected the most because they consider such behaviours normal as it is being telecasted on the TV, also being watched by their family members. They cannot understand the difference between ethical and unethical at a young age if not taught by parents. Although disclaimers are shown before telecasting the episode, it mentions that it is non-fiction and other ethical components, but many people do not pay attention. If the government issues guidelines on what can be telecasted and should not be shown, it may be less negatively impactful.

Hi, love your Great 7 are ghost au and I would like to share with you my idea about MC/Yuu. You know like in fairytale there are princess, villain and prince that saves the day. Also have you ever heard a quote "Evil queens are princesses that weren't saved". What if Yuu is actually Prince Charming that came to TWST Wonderland to save overblot students. What if Malleus is not replacement for Maleficent, but is actually Princess Aurora and Yuu is Prince Philip. (1)
(2) Prince Philip (I think that is the name of Prince from Disney Sleeping Beauty). And it kinda fits Yuu perfectly with their similarity with princes (at least, from early movies like Snow White, Cinderella and so on). They are blank slate like early princes, didn't have much role until fighting the villain to save princess which were the same person in the game (Leona, Azul and others) like real princes.
(3) Also in the prologue, there was a text, something about running out of time and that only Yuu can save them. Just like only Prince Charming could save his princess from villain. But what bothers me is that if our overblot friends are unsaved princesses, then who is the real villain of their stories? I think I got carried away with the whole conspiracy theory. 😅
Ok ok, ohohoho let's gooooo
Yes, I have a vague memory of hearing "evil queens are princesses that weren't saved" and it's a really interesting concept
PLEASE DO GET CARRIED AWAY I DON'T MIND RAMBLING AT ALL
theories, no matter how batshit crazy you might think some are.just inspire me. Like. Even if they don't become canon especialy if they don't, just show how wildly different the same story can be interpreted, and I belive so many creators get inspired by them, I can literally talk about how calcifer and the moving castle are a metafir to Howls heart and I bet this is a analysis or theory someone made somewhere but I just didn't saw it yet
.........
Crowley's voice in the prologue:
"Ah... my dear beloved. A lovely and noble flower of evil Truly you are the most beautiful of all. Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the..."
"Those who are guided by the dark mirror, as long as your heart desires, take the hand that appears in the mirror" (until here I belive it's what he's saying during the ceremony)
"For me. For them. For you. We are all running out of time. No matter what, never let go of my hand" (this, I belive, was for yuu/the player directly)
[translated by Shel_BB on YouTube]
That frase + the fact that he's always looking for the black stones after every overblot can point to Crowley being the villain, I thought he was going to be the big bad for quite some time, but now I just can't belive this anymore
Bc Overblots aren't some magical shenanigans that are only happening now, they are a fact of the world, studied and know to many, rare as they may be, it makes sense why he's looking for the black stones if we concider that they need to be disposed afterwards so noone will accidentally consume another's blot, see Grim
And I may joke that Crowley is a "bad headmaster" and "bad dad" for comedic value, but the guy is restoring little by little Ramshackle, you can see the change in the main room and the exterior through the chapters, he's literally banking Yuu's education, even if it's probably the school's money, in ghost marriage he gave a break to Yuu, the one who actually made them go help in the end was Ortho, and as you said, Yuu can be the one who embodies the "prince charming" spirit, like the others embodies, mostly, "the villains spirit", more about that in a sec
Before the game even gor released a friend and I thought that maybe Malleus would be the bad guy, maybe even the player, bc, well, "villains world" and all, and he is the poster boy, but you can see why this can't be the case already
And considering how overblots are made of overworking and stressing oneself, I think the villain is just that, stress, trauma, overworking, miscommunication and high expectations
There's this post about the overblot boys and how they aren't an exactly replica of the villains they represent. Exemple: Unlike Ursula, Azul made clear to everyone that he was shady as fuck
And I notice that all of the boys are more like a mix of Disney characters than only one, see: Malleus and his Prince Philip syndrome, wanting to run away from his retainers and have a good time alone; Lilia who is probably the three fairies, Diablo, very close to the royal family, and the storm curse, where a bat spear for a second; Cater has some Cinderella vibes. What I'm trying to say is: I think you are correct that they are princesses too!
Yuu being prince charming is a great take! But I think Yuu embodies the traits/spirit of a hero, I'm still fazed that they have sass but even so used the "bc they are my friends I need to help them" card in chapter 3 in a more modern way
Bc Yuu is technically the Therapist of NRC, they are someone the overblot boys could tell so much shit and discharge that negativety on bc Yuu, in the end, will go home, they won't be here and will dispatch all their problem with them, and that's something reassuring to someone who doesn't has the habits of sharing what's in their brain easily
Isn't that a hero in it's own way? Helping someone to overcome their own demons
We don't know were Yuu is when the boys fight, maybe in the background giving orders or helping others, but I realy like to think that they are hearing the story that the boys share after they are defeated
And let's remember that being magicless isn't something rare in twst, nor something they frown down on, see: Epel's parents or grandparents I'm not sure wich, if I'm not mistaken, they are magicless; the only thing that set Yuu apart is that they got there by the carriage and can't go back to their world, they are a magicless student who is in a magic school and that's supose to be impossible
Unless Crowley needed the embodiment of a hero for some reason, maybe he knew too many overblots would happen that year, and he needed someone to heal the boys slowly, bc a thing I love in this story is that they don't suddenly heal of their trauma, no, it takes time and communication, see Riddle still learning to be more lenient with his rules in chapter 2
And one particular thing, sometimes the relationship Yuu has with the character in the menu, voice lines and events, is diferent from the relation they have with the same character in game
There're some voice lines that stuck with me, specifically Leona's
“Oi, stop clinging to me. I hate the warmth. And you’re not a kid anymore.” Dorm uniform, from here
“You’re always so serious about things. Don’t you ever get tired? ...Ha, yeah, that was a stupid question.” Cerimonial Robes from here
"Wanting to stay with me while I'm practicing my magic is so Typical of You. Most people would just curl up their tails and whine about it" PE uniform, from here
“My hair tie’s coming loose? Then fix it for me.” PE Uniform, from here
“I’ve been looking for a good place to take a nap. Let me use the Ramshackle Dorm.” Lab Coat, from here
I don't know about you, but I don't feel that Leona is as close to Yuu as he is in his voice lines, and yes, this could be a gimmick to apeal to the audience but what if it isn't? What if slowly, away from us, Yuu is basicaly becoming their friend and helping them improve little by little
The line that sold me to like Azul was a Menu one were he asks if he looks good for the seven sake
Basicaly: I think your theory that Yuu is the one who posses the prince charming spirit is realy cool and makes sense in the world's context, and even if it gets dated or whatever by years forward it's still going to be a fantastic concept
My personal take is that: Yuu is a more of "brothers Grimm"/writer of fary tales, bc Yuu is a blank slate that is taking many roles at once to progress the story as well as the hero role
I will die in this hell and still say that Yuu is going to play Diablo in chapter seven and if they don't then it was a waste of potential

INTJ pairings
I'll make this into a fun short "put you in my pocket and take you `to my mom's Thanksgiving party" version too.
I'm not an INTJ, but I do converse with them (and by them, I mean maybe 3 total and 1 regularly) and I've been asked to talk about my thoughts on this, so for tonight only, I'm giving myself a really cool sash that says I'm an authority on the subject. I also think as an INTP I run into somewhat similar issues with certain types.
* means I like this pairing.
Typically, the INTJ's golden pair is the ENFP. I think that works for some people, but is probably a kind of short-lasting passionate fling rather than the ideal pairing. ENFPs are great people, they're lots of fun to be around, they care a great deal. They bring out the INTJ's soft side, which they may hate but they secretly quite admire. But ultimately, ENFPs can be flaky. They see something new and exciting and they move on. Novelty is the greatest motivator in a lot of ENFPs. New friends, new places, new things to do. And while the INTJ may deeply admire that and may find it quite exciting, it's not going to last forever. Eventually, the INTJ will become tired of playing games and want to settle into their ideal lifestyle pursuing their carefully strategized goals and the ENFP will become bored. The INTJ I speak to and I have the same issue, which is that ENFPs by nature are manipulative. It can be used for the good of inspiring people and bringing them together, but it can also become quite selfish and unstable. This leads to the ENFP saying things like "You try to apply logic to everything" or "you don't really respect me" or something like that when in reality, if someone loves an INTJ they'll love that they apply logic to everything and they'll love their snarky edges.
INFPs. I have not heard a lot of feedback about them as I think INTJs tend to be drawn more to extraverts. But as someone who spends quite a lot of time with INFPs, I would imagine that a lot of INTJs who can't make it work with ENFPs can also not make it work with INFPs. Once again, INFPs are great at engaging our minds but they are terrible at accepting that we live by rationality. INTJs use Fi a little bit, so to some extent they'll have similar engagements with their emotional side, but INFPs live by thinking "what can I do to nurture myself" and INTJs live more by "how can I best mold the world to fit my vision of efficiency". You'll see the commonality of Fi at the worst point possible when the INTJ is breaking down. INFPs kind of never stop using Fi and as someone who is thinking-dominant, that is almost impossible for communication. Ultimately, they'll eventually hit a point where their love languages and ways of interactions may be so disparate that they feel neglected.
ENTPs **. This is a golden pair that I can kind of get behind. The INxJs I know are obsessed with ENTPs and tend to think they're quite attractive. They're not only gregarious (when they're not arguing) but they're also quite intellectually stimulating and since they have opposite functions from the INTJ, there is still quite a bit of difference to make it fun. There shouldn't be too many emotional issues, aside from the fact that both these types tend to bottle up their emotions and resent vulnerabilities. The ENTP will probably be the more caring of the two in a conventional sense, but I would think both would have similar love languages of caring both through action and thought. ENTPs also tend to not be quite as flaky as a lot of xNxPs are, but, I would rate both of these types as highly likely to ghost. My best advice is that if you want to be around ENTPs, pick one who can be honest about their real values and whose values align with yours. If they make a lot of bigoted jokes, take that at face value, no matter how "ironic" it is. ENTPs can be a little fake in the sense that they will blend in just enough and hide behind so-called irony to be friends with a lot of different people.
INTPs. I don't really see it. I think INTPs are lovely as an INTP who likes other INTPs. Likewise, I enjoy a good conversation and friendship with an INTJ. But I find it not only difficult to tolerate relationships but also being told what to do. I make every decision in a relationship as a compromise and I think that would eventually quite interfere with the INTJ's ambitions because I wouldn't back down on mine...at least, not without resentment. So perhaps an INTJ and INTP with similar life goals could work out romantically, but personally, I view them as platonic and the one time I liked an INTJ it ended beyond poorly. I don't bring out their softness and they don't bring out mine. We're more like buddies who complain about other people when we do the entire group project by ourselves. Of course, romantic preference is a preference.
ENTJs. When has it ever worked out for someone to date their sister-type? Name one time! If someone names one time I'll update this. I think an ENTJ and an INTJ would be quite an argumentative couple even if they were on the same side about everything. Then again, INTJs do admire extraversion and it is always nice to be around people you don't have to explain yourself to every sentence.
INFJs ****. Oh, I like this pairing. I have not heard much about it, but I think it would be really cute. INTJs are complete badasses. They're very "I'm going to take over the world and you're just going to have to deal with it. And if you say no I will secretly cry". INFJs are very "I'm going to do everything in my power to heal everyone and the world and I am probably crying because I saw a baby bunny". INFJs are The Best! They have the softness of ENFPs but they're logical and they use Ni like INTJs but have Fe, which means they are thinking about harmony 24/7 and not that Fi-version of harmony. That genuine "I will make sure everyone is cared for at no social benefit to me" kind of harmony. They do socialize with a lot of people, but INTJs sometimes like to be social and party, they just aren't typically regarded that way. Do Fe and Fi mix that well? Maybe not. But as an Fe user who is quite fond of INFJs, I think they could potentially be a very cute power couple with the INTJ and there would be fewer issues with communication than other types as Ni-doms (but this also might be boring at the same time).
ENFJs. Similar to INFJs. They might work together a little less simply because of the change in function positions.
ESFPs *. Do I know for sure that this is a good pairing? No! But gosh, do I like it. INTJs become ESFP-like when they're sad. So, you know, maybe the ESFP will draw out the worst version of the INTJ and that could really suck. But this is the perfect little theatre kid dates total nerd trope and I like that. ESFPs have the social circle that the INTJ desires and the INTJ has the "got their shit together" vibes that ESFPs, despite being quite talented and successful, may lack. They both have skills one another can benefit strongly from, but it may come at the cost of a lot of arguments. Not sure. But I think this is actually my personal favorite since they have near-opposite strengths but a common reason to respect one another.
ISFPs: Pft. Idk. This is not the same as ESFPs. ISFPs are lovely but they sort of fill the same niche that INFPs do. Perfect for an INTP like me, but I don't think INTJs are looking for the quiet, artsy, weirdo so much because they already often fill that niche to some extent, even if it's more technical. I've noticed that INxJs really want to be around people who are the life of the party and very socially dominant (and ISFPs can fulfill that role, but there are other types who win via extraversion). The ISFP will likewise appreciate a little practicality, but I've noticed they're more likely to gravitate towards other xxFPs. Probably a better friendship and as a relationship would take more effort.
ESTPs: I think this one comes with its own difficulties and will work less than ENTP/ESFP pairings. This is because while they can have the same charisma that ENTP and ESFPs have, they can also have that same fakeness as a defense mechanism. Both will value action but the ESTP will probably drain out the INTJ more than ENTPs will (who are more ambiverts) and more than ESFPs too. With ESFPs, there's a good amount of the right kind of opposites. INTJs are action-driven, but they're strategic and take a while. ESFPs are action-driven, but they're more spontaneous. And ultimately, that leads to a lot of arguments about how to get things done. Whereas, the ESFP and ENTP might give the INTJ complete room to "manage", the ESTP seems less likely to do so.
ISTPs: This would be so stale. INTJs tend to show big emotions (to their own despise) when they're upset and ISTPs love to ghost at any sign of emotion. They would dip so fast. Top-tier friendship on an intellectual level but never particularly deep and unlikely, albeit not impossible to evolve into a relationship. Same issues as with INTPs, there's going to be a lot of admiration and probably not a lot of emotional attachment. I have witnessed an INTJ have a crush on an ISTP but that ISTP had a crush on me so that tells you how that went. Messy business.
ESTJ: Yeah, I guess. I don't like ESTJs as a general concept but I suppose INTJs aren't necessarily as opposed to capitalism and tradition. Sounds dry. Next.
ISTJ *: This is probably a really solid pairing for the INTJ. Very marriage material, have the same job, raise cool kids. But I think that sounds boring. So if you want the "perfect life", this is probably a good type for you but I couldn't do that. You would probably only have minor arguments and the INTJ would have to learn to trust that ISTJs are incredibly good at reading situations while the ISTJ would have to learn to love that the INTJ is more fantasy-oriented than they are. Odd, right? Ultimately, you have two people who can be very commitment-oriented, who care for people the same way, who want to fix society, who analyze everything. You just have two generally different ways of doing that, where the ISTJ is probably actually better at being in society and the INTJ wants to change it in more drastic ways (although, for moral reasons they both want to change it).
ISFJ: I don't imagine it working particularly well. I honestly can barely imagine it at all. An ISFJ is my best friend and he is THE MOST gentle buddy. You cannot make fun of him even playfully and keep the friendship. Probably a deal-breaker for a lot of INTJs as they tend to love a good tease. My ISFJ has dated an INTJ before and while they’re still friends, it was a bad experience to witness all around. INTJs are very competitive and ISFJs are very open with their affection so that ran into issues but also, the ISFJ is not as likely to stand up for itself in a way that INTJs easily respect, which is to say, when they do it it will be something like “hey, you hurt my feelings” and if you’re the kind of person to  respond “then you’re too sensitive” you’ve got a whole ass toxic relationship on your hands.
ESFJ: I think this could work a little better than the ISFJ pairing and a little worse than with the ESFP. Of course, there are general grounds for arguing over emotion vs. logic, but both types can have quite a good bit of talent and practicality coexisting. ESFJs tend to be a little better with criticisms (although they are still sensitive and should be treated very gently too) and they're more likely to want to accomplish goals that the INTJ finds easier to respect. For a lot of ISFJs, their goals are sweet and simple like raising a family, working as a computer scientist. The ESFJ might be a little more oriented towards large goals similar to that of the ESFP, which is more of the category that INTJs tend to fall into. However, the INTJ is going to have to accept that ESFJs love a LOT which means throwing a LOT of parties, probably the most out of any type and its probably going to lead to some burnouts.
Overall, INTJs are great but need to learn to practice kindness and put their natural tendency for intellectual superiority aside. They shouldn't be with anyone that doesn't want to accomplish things they can respect. They shouldn't be with people who want them to compromise too much (they probably won't). They should be with people who bring out their nurturing capabilities and who they want to do things for, but not people that they see as incapable of taking care of themselves. They may prefer more social people and admire people who can network while being direct and genuine. Based on these criteria, INFJs and ENTPs are my highest recommendations while ESFPs (my favorite) and ISTJs also make the list for various reasons.
BUT, that being said, RELATIONSHIPS (including friendships) ARE A SKILL. They are most successful when someone becomes good at learning respect and compromise that doesn't cause resentment, regardless of type. All individuals will have different specific interests as well as red flags. And if you need me to tell you if your relationship works, it probably doesn't and you can DM me.

Notes on SU Commentary Tracks
I watched the commentary tracks on the Complete Steven Universe DVD Set and I took some nerd notes.
Tumblr media
The episodes with commentary tracks are “Reunited,” “Change Your Mind,” and “The Future.”
I’ll bold stuff that was maybe bigger news or more surprising for easier reading. And yes, some of this was already known from podcasts, other Q&As, or interviews, but I listed it if they said it again here.
Read on after the jump to read these and other highlights:
Steven’s original wedding speech
Older ideas on dialogue for Lapis when she came back to the beach
Scrapped concepts for the scene that ultimately included Steven communicating with the others in a mindscape
Discussions of earlier concepts for White Diamond having a power to “freeze” Gems into statues to make them perfect and having a gallery of them on Homeworld
Pink Pearl’s original fate
The translation of the writing on Obsidian’s sword
The origin of Pink Steven’s design
What Rebecca did to pitch the “SHE’S GONE” scene
Earlier plans to include Shep in “Change Your Mind”
An unused concept of how Steven feels about Biggs
The inspiration for the Heaven and Earth Beetles’ healed design
How Volleyball/Pink Pearl was almost a mini-villain
Discussion of how they did not get to share the origin of the Diamonds
Jasper’s scrapped participation in the movie

“Reunited” -
Commentary with Rebecca Sugar, Ben Levin, Matt Burnett, Hilary Florido, Joe Johnston, Ian Jones-Quartey, and Kat Morris.
In 2015, an episode idea called “If You Love Yourself So Much” was discussed but rejected. It included some early ideas that ended up getting incorporated into “Reunited,” most notably Garnet marrying herself and putting rings on both hands.
The idea of the Cluster arm wrestling was planned for a long time. A scrapped idea of Steven banging his fist on a vending machine to get some Chaaaaps was supposed to visually parallel some of that scene, but it was axed.
When they got pushback on the wedding idea, they kept adding more and more “high entertainment value” items like a big musical number so the episode would be absolutely unmissable and appealing to everyone.
The song at the beginning of the episode was meant to check in with the entire cast and sort of remind you they exist and what their state of mind is going into the wedding.
Ian made a comment joking about “All 15 people in Beach City” being in the audience.
Just about everyone on the Crew touched this episode, despite that there are four main storyboarders credited for “Reunited.”
In 2016 Ian Jones-Quartey proposed marriage to Rebecca Sugar. They felt like the characters based on them (Sapphire and Ruby) HAD to get married in the show now because otherwise it wouldn’t be honest. But then their characters got married before they did.
They really love the idea of having characters get married who have known each other for a really long time, versus the fairy tale trope of movies ending with weddings between people who have met very recently.
Steven’s speech as officiator at the wedding used to be longer in its first draft--it was described as being weird and full of jokes, and there would have been a scene with Pearl getting weepy and pulling tissues out of her pearl.
Ian mentions loving a joke Jeff came up with having Greg play one chord to make Steven fall asleep--it’s sort of a “dream” chord you hear in cartoons a lot before a dream sequence.
The Crew discussed what it might be like if someone had never seen the show before and started with this episode.
Ian really wanted Steven’s psychic powers to figure into the episode.
Blue using a sadness wave to attack the Gems was a very old idea they’d planned for a long time. So was Lapis’s arrival.
There was a discussion of having Lisa Hannigan performing her lines as Blue VERY early in the morning.
Ian was happy the sword got broken because it was so momentous but it was just a sword. And later appeared on a shelf in the house as an artifact.
Miki had drawn a torn dress for Garnet at one point so she could be shown fighting and moving around more accurately, and this led to a long discussion of whether Gem clothing can even actually get torn the way human clothes can. They concluded that no, it shouldn’t be torn, so they backed up and gave Garnet an open-front dress from the beginning so the fighting version would make more sense.
Lapis originally might have had a longer speech upon arriving back on the beach. They eventually decided to just have her say “Hey.”
The barn falling on Blue Diamond was an intentional Wizard of Oz reference.
They point out that Steven even once said “drop the barn on the beach” (in a previous episode, “Can’t Go Back,” which was also a Miki episode).
Destroying the house was a big deal, and they always thought they’d end up doing it but backed away from it until “Reunited.” They almost even did it back in “Coach Steven”! But it just ended up with a little damage to the porch.
The Crew thinks Miki is really good at drawing ensemble shots.
Rebecca was always overwhelmed whenever she got to have Patti LuPone record for Yellow.
Originally the giant figures of everyone’s statue bodies in the mindscape were too dark and had to be revamped so they could be seen.
An earlier idea of Steven’s “psychic-ghost-situation” had him as a ghost actually trying to interact with the other characters during fighting action, but it was pulled back to this mindscape so there wouldn’t be as much confusing action to keep track of and more focus on what Steven was doing to encourage his teammates and contact the Diamonds.
Hilary was glad not to have to block out a fight.
Ian mentions loving having Bismuth back in the group.
They originally wanted the “Diamonds sensing Pink’s energy” plot to happen when Steven was in the palace somehow, but everything got moved to this scene--which the Crew all agrees turned out incredible, like how cool it was to have Steven essentially reminding each character why they fight and summing up their whole arc in a sentence.
“Change Your Mind”
Commentary with Rebecca Sugar, Ben Levin, Matt Burnett, Hilary Florido, Joe Johnston, Ian Jones-Quartey, and Kat Morris.
They like to refer to this episode as “The movie before the movie.”
They loved incorporating “princess tropes” into Steven’s time on Homeworld, which is why there were so many references to “mice” (well, Pebbles) making clothes, being locked in a tower, being reminded of his manners, loving animals and freeing imprisoned pets, etc.
Deedee did the voice of the rainbow worm pet. She apparently didn’t find it memorable and was surprised when she was reminded she did the voice.
Rebecca was super excited for the confrontation with Blue.
There was some discussion of how Steven would have died of starvation if he didn’t have someone practical like Connie to remember to bring food.
They love working with the huge scale the Diamonds present.
The Crew always wanted to put someone in Blue’s hair loop. Originally they wanted Blue to tuck Greg in there when she kidnapped him, but they didn’t end up being able to do any hair-loop-carrying until this episode.
The Crew bantered back and forth about what the heck those Pebbles’ names were and how hard it was to track them.
They agreed that Paul draws the best Yellow Diamond, which makes sense since he also drew the first episode with Yellow (and her stink face).
The scene where Yellow asks Blue to stop using her powers on her and then realizing she’s crying on her own was one of Rebecca’s favorite scenes to get to finally.
Steven Sugar thought Gems would spend a lot of time in their own chambers/rooms just not really doing much of anything unless they had to fulfill their purpose.
Some of the Homeworld ideas were based on a Soviet artist’s concepts, Boris Artzybasheff, and also many ideas were inspired by Busby Berkeley regarding how people were objects and furniture.
The mech was an old idea. Once they had the hand ship from “Jailbreak,” they knew there had to be bodies somewhere.
They focused a lot about what could be the coolest and funniest way for something to happen. The concept of the yellow and blue spaceship arms appearing out of the sky to smack the White Diamond mech around was one of those.
Rebecca really wanted things to look more and more cartoony and bizarre as you get deeper into Homeworld.
They spent a very long time trying to decide on characters’ new outfits.
The trash can lid is said to be a reference to “a flying bear cartoon” and they dance around speaking a direct reference because they’re not sure they’re allowed to say its name.
In discussing the powers of the Diamonds, there were debates on what White’s power would be; with Yellow being physicality-based and Blue being emotion-based, they thought White as identity-based made the most sense.
Different ways to express this were played with before settling on the idea that she thinks she’s perfect and others’ colors make them less like her and less perfect. But then she becomes a hostage to her own beliefs about herself because if she does anything that reflects on everyone else, so it’s best to do nothing.
They had some cool earlier ideas of White’s powers making statues out of other Gems and having a gallery full of frozen Gems, frozen by White to make them perfect.
They also weren’t sure what fate befell the original Pink Pearl and discussed whether she might have been destroyed.
Rebecca discussed how creepy it was to have White Pearl speaking in Christine’s voice and not Deedee’s--that we should find it fundamentally disturbing at this point.
Tom Herpich came up with the crack on White Pearl’s face.
In real life, pink diamonds aren’t understood as well as yellows and blues. It’s more known what makes a diamond yellow or blue, and some of those facts Rebecca researched were originally woven into the speech White gave about their “impurities.” But it turned out to be too dry and most of it got cut.
Rebecca loves having Lapis with pants and sandals for easier cosplay.
Ian had to draw the scene where Steven is falling and fusing with inert characters--he wasn’t able to properly explain it to Rebecca so she had him draw it.
They really wanted Rainbow Quartz 2.0 to have a scarf, but they couldn’t figure out how to get that into Pearl’s design. They miss the scarf.
It was really important to have these Fusions display call-forwards of the Gems’ new outfits which we hadn’t yet seen.
Rebecca points out that Sunstone’s design breaks a design rule and she feels like Sunstone should have Garnet’s pant leg colors on their legs, but at the same time she understands the rule of cool and likes it like this.
It’s discussed how none of Steven’s fusion weapons are exclusively offensive weapons either.
Rebecca still really wants a suction cup Sunstone toy.
Sunstone’s ability to transcend reality and break the fourth wall was a joke that exploded in the discussion room among the Crew. As soon as the idea was pitched everyone kept coming up with ideas. Sardonyx’s fourth-wall-breaking is more snarky, but Sunstone’s is helpful.
Rebecca was disappointed that the rule about Steven’s clothes wasn’t always followed with having his clothes appear on Obsidian’s hand, but she was delighted that you could see them in one scene.
They spent a lot of discussion time on making sure Steven-Obsidian was different somehow from Rose-Obsidian. The hair is different.
Old versions of Obsidian were drawn with wrapped-together Twizzlers legs, which sort of is reflected in the present design.
The sword had been planned forever--and it first appeared in “Bubble Buddies.”
Miki worked on the Ninja Turtles show so Rebecca was really excited to see her depictions of Bismuth and Sunstone.
An early plan to have Obsidian draw the sword from their mouth was complicated because fusion weapons should be combinations, so they finally reached the solution of having them combine to make the hilt, then get the blade out of Obsidian’s mouth.
The blade of the sword is thought to say “We’ll always save the day,” but you’d have to ask Steven Sugar.
Another really old idea was climbing into the White Diamond mech eye.
Rebecca was disappointed that some of the merch made of White Diamond did not feature her cape sparkles.
There were many debates early on about where Rose might “actually” be. There were tons of references to this fundamental question throughout the show--introducing Lapis as a Gem trapped in an object, having Pearl ponder pulling Steven’s Gem out as a baby, straight-up wondering what would happen to him in “Bubbled” when Eyeball was trying to take his Gem, etc. They all decided Rose was definitely gone but that the idea of her possibly being inside him should be on his mind a lot, leading to disturbing images like dreaming about coughing up her hair.
Yellow Diamond and Blue Diamond both challenged Steven about things he was very confident about, but White’s question of his identity got to him because he in fact is not confident about that.
The black and white eeriness of the fuzzy background and the other characters having their colors washed out helped make the scene in White Diamond’s head so disturbing and creepy.
The split screen showing Steven’s two perspectives was exciting to Rebecca, and was a pretty old idea. And she points out it sort of “breaks the show.”
The Gem Steven, Pink Steven, was represented by a slightly modified version of his model sheet. Everyone laughed when they saw what was getting used.
They decided that an earlier idea of Pink Steven looking angry should be replaced by an emotionless version of him. All the emotion should be with Organic Steven.
In the pitch meeting for this episode, Rebecca herself screamed “SHE’S GONE!!” and shocked the hell out of everyone. She pointed out how no one expected this of her because she’s pretty quiet, but she just wanted to shock everyone the way Steven would in the show.
They point out this is the first appearance of the geometric shield that got so much use in Future.
The fact that Steven is Steven is the ultimate reveal of the show. Usually in fantasy shows there’s some other kind of revelation, but Steven just being amazingly human and amazingly Gem and amazingly himself is wonderful here.
They like having the pilot reference with “What’s your excuse?”
If Rose had somehow still been alive in him, all of this would have been cheapened.
Ian loves that you can faintly hear Sadie’s concert from way out in space as the camera approaches Earth.
They got a lot more use out of the Beach-A-Palooza stage than they thought they would when it had to be designed for “Steven and the Stevens.” There was a joke about how at one of the conventions a real Beach-A-Palooza stage was constructed and they had a thought about how oh good, it’s getting reused.
Sadie having green hair in the finale was a late change but they liked showing her progression.
They had originally kicked around the idea of Sadie already having her new partner Shep at this point, but decided to develop that in Future instead.
They compare White Diamond’s stepping gingerly into the fountain to skeptically getting into a public pool.
Some silliness they didn’t get to use was that Biggs would be “beloved by everyone” except Steven. They never got to cover it, but originally Steven was just going to not really understand why everyone loves her so much and doesn’t personally much care for her.
The Heaven and Earth Beetles are based on the Mothra Ladies.
The healed Gems’ horns are supposed to be side effects of the corruption that they continue to bear in the present.
Larimar and Orange Spodumene ended up different in the ending scene than they became in Future. Many of the designs were retroactively pulled into this scene after being designed for the movie.
Rebecca wrote “Change Your Mind” as a personal song to express her feelings surrounding her fight for the wedding.
“The Future”
Commentary with Rebecca Sugar, Kat Morris, Alonso Ramirez Ramos, Hilary Florido, Joe Johnston, and Ian Jones-Quartey.
The animatic for this episode ran SO long--they’re supposed to be just over 11 minutes but this one was 17 minutes.
Steven’s calisthenics routine, a callback to “Future Vision,” was on the chopping block to make the episode shorter but Rebecca wouldn’t allow it to be cut because she wanted to show that Steven’s been taking care of himself.
They were very excited to get a chance to cover some of the things in Future that they couldn’t squeeze into the original show, like the unbubbled Rose Quartzes, Volleyball, etc.
The new writers on the show also helped bring forward the idea of Steven finally making some of his OWN mistakes to fix.
This also helped construct the idea of Steven essentially being the “final boss” of his own battle.
Usually stories that involve someone being in a fight and winning don’t explore the effect just being in a fight has on a person, regardless of whether you won.
Rebecca really wanted to play Ocarina of Time after beating it so she could go back to all the places and see how people were doing. She wanted this epilogue series to explore that a little too.
Little Homeschool is sort of a Tiny Toons reference--older cartoons teach younger cartoons how to be cartoons, and this is Gems teaching other Gems how to be Gems on Earth.
Lamar came up with the silly joke about receiving that art set with all the different media types in it--the one artists are always getting from a well-meaning relative at holiday time.
A scrapped plot idea involved Volleyball/Pink Pearl as a sort of “mini-villain,” with a focus on her activating the un-activated Pearls.
There’s discussion of how victimization turns people into villains sometimes. But since showing that happening with Volleyball wouldn’t have served the interests of Steven’s arc, they couldn’t fit it in.
There was also a “very specific” Gem origin and Diamond origin story that’s quasi-religious in nature--it’s very cool and complicated. But they do not tell us what it is.
Ian and Joe both really wanted to have Jasper living alone in the woods and stacking rocks. They’re glad they got this series to do that with her.
There was originally an idea for a B-plot involving Jasper in the movie. They don’t discuss the specifics.
There were many ideas they didn’t get to work on because they would have started new arcs and Future was not about kicking new plots into gear.
“Mr. Universe” was the last episode they wrote/finished.
Miki really wanted to include a kiss between Connie and Steven to show their relationship was okay. Among the Crew everyone knew their relationship was basically eternal but Miki wanted to make sure WE knew that.
Steven driving conveyed momentum for Future; in the original show, we always came back to the laundry hand, back to home, but in Future that’s changed and home isn’t what it was.
They were really excited that a gourd family made it to the crowd scene in Future.
Thanks for reading!
Note: The movie had some commentary tracks too, but the one on this DVD set is the same as the one released on the original standalone movie DVD, so I did not outline it here. Here is my post about the DVD commentary from the movie.
