Autumn

Autumn has arrived. I sit against the bark of the oak tree, with leaves a shade of burning orange scattered around me, ruffled now and then by the occasional breeze that blows.

Humans are a peculiar species, simple and complex at the same time, just like the grass beneath that feels both soft and crisp, warm at one place and cold at the other. The book rests on my lap, opened up halfway and bookmarked by a leaf I recently picked up. The leaf contains multitudes, displaying hues of green, orange, yellow, and red, and I wonder if it isn't the same with humans too. Stacks of traits cemented by the years. The stack keeps growing as the years pass, and maybe, never really touched the Zenith.

There's a couple sitting on the other side of the tree and I hear the whispers of I love you roll out from one's lips and latch onto the other's and I wonder, if it's another ephemeral promise in the form of ethereal kisses or something that will actually last, unlike this Autumn. Autumn that will soon give way, first to the mild and then to the biting cold.

Occasionally, the wind blows with a cold nip in it. I feel colder than usual nowadays, and I wonder if it's just the wind or something inside that's draining the warmth from me. I try to remember the cold nights spent engulfed in a warm embrace followed by mornings of sunshine and pancakes. I try to gather those happy memories into a blanket to keep myself warm, but the wind is just getting too cold, and you, too far away.

I close my book and gather myself, walking away, the leaves giving way with a soft crunch beneath my feet, and all I hear is two hearts blanketed by love, and the wind whispering its goodbye.

Life isn't easy. It isn't supposed to be. Everyone goes through hardships, everyone faces challenges but sometimes we feel as if "why do we always have it worse than others?". It used to cross my mind too, but guess what, the harsh truth is, there will always be people "better off" than you and always be people you're "better off" than. That's just the circle of life, but pausing and learning to appreciate the little things you have is what matters. Being grateful for everything in your life, being positive. Stop comparing, Start living, Peace is the best gift you can give to yourself and that will only come when you stop idolizing an "ideal lifestyle". There's never gonna be one - you would just keep wanting more and more. Never stop fighting for your dreams, but while you do so, always remember to be appreciative of what you have. To thank god, universe for everything. Maybe things aren't looking good right now, but remember nothing lasts forever.
