I feel like a lot of people are projecting their own feelings towards what Taliesin did onto the cast as they seemed to me more stressed than necessarily angry at Taliesin but I don't actually play DnD so I thought I might ask you if what Taliesin did really was extreme enough to have actually made the cast as other playerd mad. I've just seen the claim that the cast is mad at x before, with Sam having scanlan leave or Bowlgate or Liam handing over the beacon and then the cast weren't actually mad at all.
Hi anon,
So just a blanket statement for the various questions I have received: until like, Wednesday, today was supposed to be a work from home day, as I often try to make my Fridays; I was pulled in to help an injured coworker briefly this morning, which I understand and which was relatively painless and would have left me free to work from home after 10 am, which is entirely reasonable. I then was sent to a last minute additional site and it turned out they were completely unprepared; this wasted about two and a half hours of my time and I'm now, understandably, extremely annoyed. This may bleed into my responses, though by and large I'm going to specify if I'm annoyed at you or not. Anyway, anon, I'm not annoyed at you at all and any "you" I say below is addressed to the fandom on the whole; this is a valid question.
Yeah the cast is mad. Yeah that's valid; as Matt pointed out there were extensive warnings specifically indicating that this would be a bad idea for Ashton to do. The cast is attached to each other's characters! They were, in fact, mad about Scanlan leaving and Tary showing up, because they care about Scanlan and that was an intense scene; Liam genuinely thought Sam was leaving the show. They were mad about this! They are also, probably going to get over it pretty quickly, or be "mad" about it in the way that your friends still roast you in the group chat over a typo years later. This isn't really even a D&D thing other than that Matt had Evontra'vir and Allura repeatedly say "you might fucking shatter." It's an anger born of concern that Ashton might have been permanently killed. But they weren't, and even if they were, it's fine. (The cast was not remotely mad about bowlgate though; see following paragraph.)
Which brings me to my next point. I have really only checked the blogs of people I follow because of aforementioned work problems and have barely glanced at the tag, and this is in conversation not just with this episode and that discourse and me being pissed off over real-world personal inconveniences, but also the larger discussion of "must stories have conflict?" and the fact that all the people who until quite recently insisted that actually Bells Hells are ROCK SOLID TIGHTLY BONDED and shat repeatedly on the astute point that Bells Hells are actually very surface level pleasant and don't ever discuss their issues have done a 180 that they will never acknowledge. Anyway:
It's extremely normal to be mad at people you care about, and to have arguments with them, and in fact it's likely more unhealthy to not have disagreements and get mad ever, and some of you sound like you've never been outside or had any friends. Like really that's it in the end. Actually believing Marisha and Liam were mad at each other? Friendless behavior. It's completely fine to wonder if this anger was valid, but like, honestly, people get mad over dumb shit every day and the point is that even if it's a stupid thing for the cast to be mad at (obviously, I think it's fine), be fucking normal and recognize that friends can be mad over dumb shit or valid shit and talk through it. Like. Some of you have no conflict resolution skills because you see all forms of confrontation as inherently evil and couldn't be me. I get in fights all the time and I get out of them and it's great. I am glad I no longer live in the midwest but god I cut swathes through problems there because I had zero investment in being Minnesota Nice when I was angry. Somehow this has turned into life advice, which is not what I thought it would be, but anyway. It's okay to be mad at your friends and expressing it in the way the cast did is super normal and they will probably all go out for drinks; as a person who has never chilled once in her entire life, I think we should all chill.

This isn’t specifically about you and more about the anons, because I’ve noticed that you sometimes get requests to respond to meta posts other people make and something about that makes me a bit uncomfortable. Since your meta posts are widely liked by a big part of this community, it sometimes feels like you’re being kinda requested to „debunk“ other meta posts. Diversity in opinions is so important for a good fandom atmosphere and some of the anons you get seem to wanna stir up hostility and I don’t like it. Since I like some of your meta posts, but also find myself agreeing with other people, I just feel weird about this dynamic, you know? How do you feel about it?
I think that's a fair concern but honestly, I don't see it as inherently a problem. This might be my 00s internet bias here lol, but I tend to view meta on a public platform as fair game for response or external commentary - which includes my own posts. My meta is here to be read by anyone who wants to, and to provoke thought and discussion, and that's generally what I assume of others' meta as well.
Like I recognize that attitudes have changed in the era of mostly unmoderated spaces and reblogs and the lack of diverse comms with their own norms and discourse running rampant lol, and so it's often considered automatically rude to disagree with people now, but I think that can only extend so far. Like, I don't reblog posts just to disagree with them (unless they're a friend and I know they're cool with discussion) because I know it sucks when you keep getting notes from people who are liking or reblogging the take you disagree with, but I don't think that should mean not discussing other people's meta at all, as long as it's done respectfully of course.
And I understand why someone might want a second opinion on something they read. I think everyone should think for themselves and form their own opinions, and I completely agree that diversity of opinion is important in any fandom. But not everyone has confidence in their own analysis, or the learned skills for criticism, and I think it's reasonable to seek out other viewpoints and decide which seems most correct to you, or use them as boucing off points to figure out what you believe. I definitely don't want to be the only Berserk meta blog out there, and I'm more than happy to agree to disagree with most people. I'm not an authority on the story lol and people are free to agree or disagree with me however they see fit.
That said, I'm always a little wary about tone and intent, especially in Berserk fandom, because I'm not here to get into arguments and I try to make that clear. But I take most asks in good faith. Sometimes I might go a little too far with that lol, but honestly I'd rather come across as naive than hostile. If I found out that someone was trying to start a fight between me and someone else, or was using my posts to dunk on someone else, or if followers of mine took it as a cue to harass someone, I'd absolutely say something and stop answering those asks. (Hopefully we're all chill enough over here that this doesn't happen, btw. As far as I'm aware I've never incited anything like that and I've personally only ever seen fandom arguments started by people mad about Griffith fans existing, but tbf I also don't pay attention to whatever's happening outside of my dash.)
But yeah I don't think that's what's happening here, and I don't want to assume someone's trying to start shit unless there's clear evidence for that. Like in the last ask I got like this, the anon did specify that they agreed with the post they wanted me to comment on, and were just seeking more opinions/wondering what my own take was, and I think that's reasonable.
Idk, this is definitely one of those things where I know there are different valid opinions about etiquette. But I generally abide by the 'do unto others' rule, including here. I blog with the expectation that anyone can read what I write and agree or disagree, and that I might inspire other discussion. Sometimes I get nervous about being linked to notably hostile fan spaces, like the berserk reddit, but it has happened with virtually the same motivation as those anons (what do you guys think of this person's take?) and ultimately I'm fine with it, and even a little flattered.
All that said, at the end of the day I do think that it would be best for anyone who sends an ask referencing someone else's analysis to be specific about what they want to know, rather than a general 'what do you think of this?' question. Both because it shows why you're asking and what you're interested in and leaves less room for doubting your motivation, and because it makes it easier to answer.

Diary anon here: I have been thinking about how s said that r's mom dying had biggest impact on their relationship for some reason.... wondering what it looked like and why it was like that.... it also lead me to scenario in which s is reluctant to go home and r (not understanding what is actually going on) thinks that he is being ungreatful bc at least his parents are alive "even if they fight sometimes".... yeah these are the things I discuss with my diary
diary anon !!! hello !! apologies for the wait on this one; i was busy typing you a novel <3
so YES!!!!! you're absolutely on the right track there (and what top tier diary chat). so there were quite a few things happening: tensions started to rise while remus’s mum was dying—of course, because he's remus, he didn't convey any of what was happening to the others until he absolutely had to (aka until hope had already passed away), so none of them really knew what was going on with him. james and peter were of course still concerned, but they were more content with not knowing. sirius, on the other hand, couldn’t stand it, but he wasn’t just being nosy; even back then he wanted to know remus completely, and wanted to know what was bothering him, and if he could help him. even if he was tactless, i still see his intentions as being entirely pure here. and i think the major point of conflict really just stems from a difference in needs. the way each of them handles big emotions was, and continues to be, a source of tension between them. sirius is very expressive (and, at his worst, explosive) with his feelings. he needs to let his emotions out, but he wasn’t taught how to emotionally regulate himself. he grew up believing that he, and his emotions, were too much, so he tries to keep them to himself the best he can, but it doesn’t really work for him. he wants people to ask, and he wants people to try to draw them out of him. whereas remus, on the other hand, really just wants to be left alone until he's ready to talk (if ever). he tries to process things all by himself and i think he reacts poorly when people try to force it from him (even if it would benefit him (it would)). sirius was trying to respond to remus's obvious grief by asking himself, 'what would i want if i was remus?' and acting accordingly. only, remus isn't sirius and what he wanted in that moment was very different to what sirius would have wanted. (also although time has passed, and both of them have mellowed out a little bit, i do think they both still have the same knee-jerk reactions re: big emotions when it comes down to it.)
also tied to remus's grief were feelings of guilt and self hatred. spoiler: there was an accident, and both remus and his mum were injured, but only hope's injuries were fatal. remus was experiencing survivor's guilt :-( and he also hated the way his body now looked, and the fact that it bore constant, permanent reminders of what happened. (he also blamed himself because, in his eyes, it was his fault that the accident happened in the first place)
at the same time, sirius’s relationship with his birth family was at its absolute worst. incidentally, sirius wasn’t really talking about it very much either, but he wanted to. by this point, all of them had cottoned on to the fact that sirius's home life was not normal, but i don't think he was particularly outward about the specifics of it, and his emotional turmoil mainly manifested as flippant comments about his parents + erratic behaviour and mood swings. i really don't think remus knew how bad it had gotten (not helped by the fact that he was v much caught up in his own grief), but i think peter and james had started to catch onto what was happening; but they were also both just teenage boys and felt v much out of their depth. (james was 100% losing sleep at this point. just rocking back n forth every night like, my best friend is being abused but i have absolutely no idea what to do about it, my other best friend is also obviously going through shit and i have no idea what to do about it) (i really truly believe he would've had absolutely no idea about how to help sirius. over the years he's gotten extremely good at navigating sirius's trauma and emotions, but back then! he was just a lil 15 year old bab who was out of his depth. added to that, before sirius, he’d never seen or experienced anything like that before). i think sirius desperately wanted to talk to someone about it, and he recognised a similar hurt in remus that he felt in himself, so he tried to force that connection. but, well. remus was not into that at all (mainly bc to him it just seemed like sirius was trying to pry; he didn’t understand sirius’s motivations at all)
both of them were spiralling, in similar but different ways, and that was reflected in the way they understood the other one’s behaviour as well. added to that, yes, you're absolutely right re: the way sirius talked about his parents/home life. remus couldn’t understand sirius’s flippancy when he’d talk about his parents—in part because of their different life experiences, but also as a knee jerk reaction to the fact that his mum, the centre of his world at that point, was literally dying. he didn’t understand the severity of sirius's situation (and when he later did come to understand sirius's situation, and then reflected back on this whole ordeal.... cue lots of self loathing), and he didn't understand that sirius’s flippancy wasn't just him being an ass, but was a coping mechanism for the hurt he felt. at this point, i think the main feeling sirius was experiencing re: his parents was a deep, deep hurt. it hurt that he felt like he'd never be good enough, and it hurt that he knew they didn't, and never would, love him, thus resulting in the belief that he's inherently unloveable (a thought that, while having mellowed out over the years, still hasn’t really gone away). in this AU at least, i think part of sirius really wanted his parents to come after him when he ran away, to at least show that they cared for him in some capacity (even if it was in anger). but, of course, they didn't.
AT THE SAME TIME as all this other awful horrible stuff :-( remus had just recently come to the realisation that he was head over heels in love with sirius, and our favourite oblivious king was of course totally unaware of this fact (tho in his own way, he was there as well. i think sirius kind of first fell in love with remus the day he met him) <3 sirius was also navigating his sexuality, and was feeling v insecure and weird about it, especially when surrounded by the other boys and listening to the ways they all talked about attraction/etc/etc. early on, he v much overcompensated for the lack of sexual attraction he felt for the majority of the population. and this got to remus for obvious reasons; our king of pining. mooning, if u will. <3
alllll of this manifested into anger for remus; anger at having (seemingly) unrequited feelings for his best mate, anger towards sirius for continuously trying to talk his emotions out of him in a way he wasn't comfortable with, anger at himself and his body for what happened, and, of course, anger at the world for taking his mum away from him. and remus sat on that anger and let it fester until it hit a boiling point and they had a horrible horrible spat, and then remus clammed right up, and they didn't talk for months.
so... yeah :-\\\\ both of them hurt each other unintentionally. neither one of them had bad intentions at all, but they were both teenagers and going through really intense shit, alongside the general mayhem of being an adolescent. also, add in just basic misunderstandings and a difference in emotional needs/ways of coping. i think the way they double each other (and then differ) is one of the most interesting aspects of their dynamic. i know a lot of people hate misunderstandings, but i find them super interesting and true to real life (at least in my experience). it’s interesting to me how people bring their life experiences to different situations. but, of course, everyone has different lives and experiences, and the way we interpret things will always be different. and with these two, there are always going to be things that they just don't understand about each other. they both have very different backgrounds, and very different ways of responding to hurt, grief, and even love 👀

Let me be very clear on this, I fully support actual trans people to use the facilities they feel the most safe and comfortable with, and I agree with you, if abusive man and predators, wanted to harm women and children they will do so, but, Self-identification makes it way easier for predators to gain access to women’s safe spaces – and yes, when I say women, I also include transwomen –
Cont.
Self identification allows anyone who claims to be trans to legally change sex without having undergone any physical changes to their body. Not having to present as the sex they claim they are in any shape or way or form. It means they identify with the body they were born as, which isn’t what a transsexual is, like at all. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. Rowling actually talked about this. And to be honest she explains it better then I did.
Cont.
“I happen to know a self-described transsexual woman who’s older than I am and wonderful. Although she’s open about her past as a gay man, I’ve always found it hard to think of her as anything other than a woman, and I believe (and certainly hope) she’s completely happy to have transitioned. Being older, though, she went through a long and rigorous process of evaluation, psychotherapy and staged transformation.”
Cont.
“The current explosion of trans activism is urging a removal of almost all the robust systems through which candidates for sex reassignment were once required to pass. A man who intends to have no surgery and take no hormones may now secure himself a Gender Recognition Certificate and be a woman in the sight of the law. Many people aren’t aware of this.”
Cont.
We’re not against trans people being safe, we are against the predators who use a marginalized group to commit atrocities.
I hope you don’t mind me putting all of these into one post so anyone reading this can read it in full.
Thank you for your candor and your explanation. And I agree, it doesn’t sound very transgendered to not present yourself as the gender you feel and I see and understand the concerns. And on the note of presenting yourself as a gender, I’m curious how the non-binary and gender-fluid folks, who do not have a specific gender they are attached to, feel about this because I just recently became aware that we are lumping these groups together and calling them all one thing when they actually aren’t. Sorry to get on that tangent. It was a thought that popped into my head.
I also find it odd that there is a drive to remove the transitional process. I wasn’t aware of this and I’m curious as to the reasons why. Medical and mental health is critically important, and I’d think especially important to the trans community to receive care, support, and validation from medical professionals. I have the assumption that this sort of care has been very hard to get for the transgendered. I am not up to date on what care they are entitled to, how the medical world views or treats the transgendered, etc. It seems odd to me to want to remove some or maybe all of the steps involved with transitioning. Wouldn’t there be a desire for more care or better care?
If you are the same anon who messaged me yesterday, I too have felt that there might be more going on than the simple mantra of people against people, which is so often portrayed in the news and social media. So many of us truly want the trans community and the marginalized to have the rights and support and love they are entitled to and it’s so frustrating that the process is always painful and messy.

I know that you said that it was an one shot, but I really love the idea of marinette stay in Paris with Luka and kagami and avoid all the NY drama! If you can, can you share more of it? Even if just a few little ideas it would be great! (I love your ideas!)
(the one-shot this anon is referring to)
Aw, thank you so much!
And sure, after some thought, I did really want to write a little more with them!
—————
While throwing away their now juice-less cups, Marinette made the realization of how different things seemed with Luka and Kagami. She had already experienced hanging out with both of them separately, but she'd never imagined having both of them with her at once. It wasn't as if she'd always dismissed or despised the idea, but the only time they'd interacted as a group had been with Adrien around, which had probably soured the whole thing and thus involuntarily caused her to never think about it.
With her friends, everything was typically high-energy. Juleka and Mylene weren't very involved in creating such an atmosphere, but Marinette herself, Rose, Alya, and kept things energized. It wasn't a bad thing in general, but it made Marinette wonder if maybe surrounding herself with people who only encouraged her excitable habits wasn't a good thing.
Meanwhile, Luka and Kagami were completely different, both from her and her friends. Neither were particularly loud - though both could be when they wanted to - and they weren't really the kind to tease or mess with her either. Luka wasn't quiet in the way Juleka was, just seeming to absorb the world around him, whereas Kagami only spoke when she felt that there was something of value to say. Marinette had worried briefly that she might've been too different from the both of them, or that she'd overwhelm them due to speaking up the most, but instead, there was a sense of balance. Luka smiled or chuckled reassuringly whenever she caught herself rambling, whereas Kagami would cut in with her own views that were often direct but nevertheless good in their intentions. Perhaps her personality rubbed off on them in a way she couldn't fully understand?
Still, it was nice.
As the three were deciding what to do next, Marinette's phone suddenly went off. Marinette looked at her purse and pulled out her phone, half-expecting a text from one of her classmates about her missing the bus, but it was actually a notification about where Andre the ice cream man was.
Kagami glanced over after noticing the look on Marinette's face. "You want to get ice cream?"
Marinette frowned, Kagami's voice reminding her of the day the two of them had gone for ice cream with Adrien. She still remembered talking to Andre, hoping beyond hope that maybe the man wouldn't make them pick between the three different flavors. His words still stung a little, not because of Adrien, but because of what the words meant.
"Too many flavors mixed together may throw off the delicate balance."
It implied that one of them would always be the third wheel if they were together, no matter what, and it was a hollow feeling that she'd only recently started to accept.
"Marinette?"
Feeling a comforting hand on her shoulder, she looked over and noted Luka offering her a concerned expression. It grounded her, serving as a reminders that things were different now and that Adrien wasn't there which, in a strange way, brought her an immense sense of comfort.
"I'm fine," she assured. Turning her attention back to her phone, she deleted the notification and then made sure that she wouldn't be getting another one. "Ice cream sounds good, if you want it too, but... I think I've got a better idea than Andre's."
Luka and Kagami exchanged curious glances.
—————
"Here's to Neapolitan ice cream!" Marinette declared dramatically, raising her spoon up with flair before shoving it and the ice cream on it right into her mouth.
Luka snorted in amusement while Kagami gave an acknowledging nod, probably remembering the exact phrase from Andre that Marinette had recalled earlier.
They'd picked up the carton of ice cream on the way to Marinette's place, with Marinette insisting on paying in order to spoil them, and while they seemed confused on the specifics of her insistence, they gave in soon enough. Marinette could understand why she'd be the expected person to be comforted, but giving to others made her happy on its own and she felt they deserved it. After all, Luka had tried his hardest to catch up to the bus and Kagami was still dealing with Adrien wanting to leave for New York despite her being in Paris.
They'd ultimately decided on splitting the entire carton between the three of them, with each of them getting a majority of the one of the flavors and then the rest of that flavor going to the other two. Marinette had gone with chocolate, Kagami had gone with vanilla, and Luka had gone with strawberry. It might've seemed like a weird choice to go with since they'd just had orange juice, but it hadn't been much and it wasn't exactly a "treat."
Marinette may have considered suggesting ice skating instead if her first thought of it wasn't her slipping and bringing Luka and Kagami down to the ice with her. Ice cream was the safer alternative to "cold fun."
"Luka," she called thoughtfully, taking another bite before asking, "you're not feeling sore or anything, are you?"
He met her gaze, smiling at the concern but waving his hand dismissively. "I'm alright, Marinette. I'm used to biking around for hours because of my job, so it wasn't a big deal."
Kagami halted, spoon halfway in her mouth while her brows rose noticeably. She finished the scoop, then turned to look at Luka. "You have a job?"
He nodded. "Yeah. I deliver pizza." He grinned, clearly amused by her reaction. "Are you surprised?"
Kagami's expression didn't shift, but Marinette had known her long enough to see that she was embarrassed. "Oh, no. It's... I don't have one."
"There's nothing wrong with that." Luka shrugged. "I just have the time to do it."
"Mm." Kagami looked back at her ice cream, poking at the surface with her spoon. "I suppose it would be too difficult with my fencing lessons."
Marinette giggled sheepishly, happy to join in on the conversation. "I probably wouldn't be able to either. There's all my fashion work with my website, and then there's the unexpected babysitting, the bakery, and I'm also the class representative." She hurriedly added an, "I know it doesn't sound like much, but I'm bad at planning," when she felt that it seemed like such little things. She was Ladybug and the new guardian too, of course, but she couldn't be blurting that out, so she could only hope that it didn't seem like she was whining over nothing.
She averted her gaze, scooping up a self-conscious bite of her ice cream and shoving it into her mouth. She was partway through savoring it when she realized that neither Luka nor Kagami had responded to her. Daring a look back, she saw them staring at her with varying gazes.
Kagami seemed stunned, commenting, "That is... well, much, actually," referring to what Marinette had just tried to brush off.
Was it? Marinette had never really thought about it. In fact, she distinctly remembered back in the day where people might've thought she was just scatterbrained and didn't really do anything. Back when she was hesitant to be class representative and claimed that she was busy, Alya had asked her with a hint of snark what she was busy with, like she expected her to have a free schedule.
Even beyond her role of Ladybug at the time, she still had random babysitting to do and still frequently worked on her fashion projects. Thinking back, it stung just a little.
As Marinette glanced at Luka, she at first felt that the amount of sympathy he was directing at her was excessive, but then she remembered how she had cried in front of him to the point where he'd dropped his bike and guitar in order to comfort her. She blushed, both in shame and from the memory of him holding her so closely.
"Ah—well—it's okay!" she said hurriedly, "Anyway, forget about me! This day is about... um, this ice cream, and ice cream doesn't have problems that you should worry about!"
She nearly gave herself brainfreeze from how quickly she scooped up and ate the next bite, but figured it'd be worth it if they dropped the subject.
It wasn't worth it.
"You should be more careful," Kagami commented critically, an edge to her voice that Marinette knew wasn't meant to be anger at her. "You're my friend, so don't overwork yourself."
Marinette grinned nervously, still trying to lighten the mood. "A-are you saying it'd be alright to overwork myself if I wasn't your friend?"
Kagami's gaze didn't waver, and Marinette slowly tried to sink into her seat.
Luka set his spoon down on the bowl, then chimed in, "I don't know anything about fashion, Marinette, but if you ever need any help with anything—"
Kagami clicked her own spoon against her bowl to interrupt him, as if she felt personally slighted that he'd gotten to say it first. "We're here for you."
Luka nodded to confirm.
"Oh." Marinette blushed deeper, touched by the gesture from both of them. She thought about trying to reassure them again, but their gazes were firm and showed no room for argument, so she settled for a soft, "Thanks."
They resumed eating their ice cream from there, the topic officially concluded. Though the atmosphere felt noticeably different, Marinette was surprised to realize that it wasn't exactly in a bad way. She feared that she'd ruined the mood, but instead felt like she was supported, with Kagami and Luka looking satisfied with their choice in offering help to her.
It was like she was Ladybug, and they were the partners standing at her side, each with their own form of support. It made her smile, allowing her to happily eat away at her ice cream without thinking about anything stressful.
The idea of going to New York was suddenly very unappetizing in comparison to having ice cream with Luka and Kagami.
—————
All things considered, Ladybug wasn't concerned about telling Chat Noir that her plans had changed and she wasn't going anywhere after all. She imagined that Chat would be overjoyed and wouldn't even ask questions about it, just happy to have her back. She found his affection eyeroll-worthy, but he was still her teammate, so she just steeled herself up for whatever ramble he was about to give her.
However, as she waited near the top of the Eiffel Tower, sitting on the guardrail and looking around for Chat Noir, she realized that she couldn't even see him. Checking the time on her yoyo, she confirmed that it was indeed time for their usual patrol, but Chat Noir was completely absent. Even though it was nighttime, which made the black cat's suit blend in with the sky, he still had the blond hair and light skin that should've made him noticeable.
Ladybug got up and paced around the area a few times, constantly peeking down at the city as she wondered if maybe she just wasn't looking in the right spot. When she still saw nothing, she concluded that Chat Noir must just be running late and she'd simply have to wait a little longer. Things happened, after all, she knew that better than anyone, so she began idling on her yoyo, searching for something to keep her occupied while she waited.
They were a team. While their identities had to remain a secret, Chat Noir had always hated it and prioritized openness in their relationship, so he would've told her if something had come up. He was also active in going on patrols, always seeming eager to join her for their runs across the rooftops, and given that he didn't even know that she'd still be in Paris, patrols were even more crucial.
He never showed up.

of early morning pancakes and serendipity | kim seungmin
Tumblr media
genre: just pure fluff
warnings: mentions of food (bacon and pancakes to be specific!)
prompt: wrapping arms around them when they make breakfast
description: worried about his safety, you may or may not have broken into your neighbor’s apartment and ended up cooking him breakfast. and your neighbor may or may not have fallen in love.
word count: ~2.0k
a/n: hi anon! i hope you like this little drabble i came up with! the wrapping arms around them while cooking is a fun prompt, and i tried to put a little twist to it. however, im not sure if it worked aksdhfkajhd >.< either way, hope you enjoy! and as always, love you all so very much and hope everyone is staying safe! <3
The first thing Seungmin picked up on as he groggily sat up in bed was the smell of bacon and pancakes wafting into his room.
Which was a bit weird, since he lived alone.
“What the…” he mumbled, shifting in bed as his books and papers slipped off his chest and onto the floor. Oh, he must’ve fallen asleep while working on his project. When was the last time he got more than three hours of shut eye? Maybe he was dreaming.
But the almost intoxicating scent of fresh made food was too strong, too alluring to be something conjured up from his caffeine filled brain. Groaning, he got out of bed, his hand smacking the table blindly in order to feel for his gold-rimmed glasses.
Putting them on so he didn’t have to bruise himself crashing into drawers and cabinets again, he opened the door, only for his jaw to go slack as he stared upon a vaguely familiar figure standing in front of the stove.
“What are you doing here?” He sputtered, pointing an accusatory finger at you. Gasping in surprise, you whirled around, eyes wide as the pancakes simmered behind you.
Seungmin couldn’t call you a friend. You were closer than an acquaintance, since the two of you crossed paths often. You were the next door neighbor, after all, and he was often made aware of your presence when he’d see you sitting out in the balcony, reading in the morning. Despite all the brief interactions, though, Seungmin never tried to get close or make any attempts to know you better.
There wasn't any particular reason, except maybe the fact that he was a little afraid of you.
He knew the golden rule: don’t judge others by their appearances. He knew that rule very well, thank you very much! But how could he see you leaving your apartment every day, dressed all prim and proper with your black stiletto heels and pant-suit combination, and not be just a tad bit intimidated? Especially since you were so different from him, a struggling literature major whose style ranged from one hand-me-down sweater to the next.
But in this very moment, as he stared at you from across the living room, you didn’t look intimidating or authoritative in the least.
You were positively adorable, and Seungmin’s brain was reaching a crisis point.
Seungmin had never seen anyone be so engulfed by a Totoro onesie as you were. The grey fabric had practically swallowed you whole, especially since you also decided to keep the hood on, the little ears drooping at the top.
The two of you engaged in an accidental staring contest until you finally spoke up, startling him a bit.
“I wanted to make you breakfast.”
It was so simple yet so utterly preposterous at the same time that Seungmin was genuinely speechless for a long moment before he uttered a sophisticated response, “W-why? A-and that doesn’t explain how you’re in here.”
You huffed, your cheeks very clearly tinted with a darker color as you turned back around to face the stove, “You haven’t left your house in three days.”
“...Yes.”
As shameful as that was, Seungmin had to admit that it was true. He cautiously walked to the dining table, sitting down in one of the chairs as his eyes narrowed, “How did you know that?”
“The same way you knew I wasn’t following my schedule and deduced that I was most likely ill.”
Fuck, did he do that? In the crevices of his poor memory, he vaguely remembered getting a bit concerned that he had not seen you on the balcony at the normal sunset time, and also had not seen you leaving the house around the time he did. Because he was pretty sure you lived alone, he had put in an anonymous tip to your home, and he heard later that you’d fainted in the apartment from overwork.
“How did you know it was me?” Seungmin asked curiously. He barely even remembered the incident at all.
You flipped the pancakes with practiced ease, “Because you’re the only person I can deduce would care about me enough to put in an anonymous tip.”
Seungmin couldn’t help but feel a little sad about that. You really had no one else beside him? If that was true, he’d feel enormously guilty, as he and you had never spoken more than casual hi’s and goodbye’s and brief conversations in the apartment elevator. There was that one time he’d secretly tailed you back home to make sure you were safe, but he’d kept at least 20 feet of distance between the two of you, and you never knew about the incident ever.
(You actually did, but you just didn’t want to embarrass him.)
“Don’t feel bad, it’s just the truth,” you said simply, sliding the cooked pancakes onto a plate and turning off the stove.
“So, this is a thank you?” He mumbled sleepily, still not discrediting the idea that this was all just a fever dream. There was so much of it that didn’t make sense. You in the apartment, in his apartment, you cooking him breakfast, you wearing a giant Totoro onesie. It was just a lot to take in.
“Something like that,” you hummed, placing the plate and a fork onto the dining table before  heading back to the stove to check on the bacon, “I haven’t seen you in three days, so I just needed to make sure you hadn’t died.”
Seungmin’s lips curled into a wry smile. This was beginning to sound more like your normal personality. The dry remarks, the sarcastic words laced with care. The way you could exchange only three words with each other as you crossed paths, but the interaction would still be a highlight of his day.
“And how exactly did you get into my apartment?” He asked, cutting his pancake into smaller pieces as he stabbed at them absently. When was the last time he had pancakes that weren’t burnt to the point that he triggered smoke alarms? The ones you made were soft and fluffy, the closest to a perfect pancake he will eat in his lifetime.
“I climbed over to your balcony,” you answered nonchalantly as you flipped the bacon to cook both sides.
Seungmin nodded in understanding, eating a piece of the pancake before he fully processed your words, and he choked in disbelief, “So you broke into my apartment?!”
“I thought you died! I knocked on your door and you didn’t answer!” You snapped back, feeling the embarrassment creep up your neck. It was bad enough that your sort-of crush was seeing you in your normal pajama onesie, does he think you’re a creep now?
Seungmin sighed, running a hand through his already unmanageable bed hair, “Well, I should thank you for being concerned.””
You huffed, keeping yourself turned away from him so he couldn’t see the conflict in your eyes, “Yes, you should be thankful.”
The boy chuckled, and the silence felt peaceful as he happily ate those delicious pancakes you’d made. It was such a weird moment of zen, with his normally intimidating neighbor softly humming and with the early morning glow filtering through the windows. Seungmin stared at your back, at the fluffiness of the cute onesie you were wearing, and before he knew it, he really did feel a strange, overwhelming sensation of gratitude for your presence.
You and him could hardly be classified as friends, and yet, you were the one breaking laws to check up him. He looked out for you, and you looked out for him in return. There was just something a bit surreal about it.
And now that he was thinking about it, had his heart always fluttered like that when he saw you?
“You’ve gone quiet. Have you died back there?” You called teasingly, wondering what the radio silence was all about.
When Seungmin didn’t answer, you frowned, but didn’t turn your head as you called again, “Hey, earth to Seungmin? Have you seriously--eek!”
You let out a rather embarrassing shriek as you suddenly felt a pair of gentle arms wrap around your waist from behind, exuding safety and care. Seungmin buried his face in your back, snuggling into the fuzzy fabric of your onesie.
“Um, Seungmin?” You prodded, completely caught off guard as your face felt hotter than ever. When you’d climbed over to his balcony and cut his lock to make sure he hadn’t died in his apartment, you’d never in your wildest dreams expected this.
“Shh,” Seungmin mumbled in reply, his voice still a little hoarse from sleep and exhaustion as he rested his cheek against you, holding you close, “Let me thank you...for caring about me.”
You thanked the gods that Seungmin could not see your face, see the way your eyes sparkled with glimmers of hope and astonishment as you tried to keep your voice level, “Thank me...with a hug?” You asked skeptically.
“Mhm,” The boy replied simply, nuzzling into you as he said softly, “A hug, to thank you for taking care of me, for worrying about me, for going out of your way to make sure I was safe. Do you not like it?”
You hesitated, because here was your perfect chance to say yes and forever keep your feelings for your neighbor locked in an unbreakable box in the depths of your heart. It was so easy for you to say that you didn’t like to be hugged, and you’d never have to feel this sort of fear of rejection from him ever again.
But at the same time, the comfort and the gentleness of his arms, the feeling of domesticity that you felt as he hugged you, it stirred your emotions in a way you’ve never felt before in your life. For the first time, you were experiencing a moment in time that you never wanted to end. You wanted to keep this memory in a treasured crystal, so you could look on at it when you were gray and old. The memory of homeliness, the memory of love.
Yes, it was love. Seungmin may not be in love with you, and may never be in love with you, but in that moment of serendipity, Seungmin made you feel loved, and that was a feeling you would never be able to stop yearning for now that you’ve experienced it.
“I like it. I like it very much,” you murmured after a long moment, leaning back into his arms. Seungmin stiffened against you, as if surprised by your acceptance, but he didn’t complain, only tightening his arms around your waist as he hung his chin on your shoulder and watched as you cooked.
“Good, because I like it, too.”
“Dork,” you scoffed, unable to fight the smile on your face as you turned off the stove and slid the bacon onto a plate. Seungmin smiled along, happily keeping his arms wrapped around your torso as you shuffled around the kitchen.
As you stumbled to the sink, half dragging a full grown man around as Seungmin refused to let go for more than a moment, you complained, “Don’t you have some sort of thesis to finish?”
Seungmin called bullshit to your words immediately, rolling his eyes as his fingers gently played with your waist and the fluffy grey material, “Do you think I would’ve crashed if I didn’t finish? I just need to do revisions.”
“Oh? Congratulations,” you said, walking to the dining table and putting down the plate of bacon before heading to brew some tea, “Is that your final assignment of the year? What else are you going to be working on now?”
Seungmin hummed noncommittally, only resting his chin on your shoulder as he soaked up every ounce of your kindness and your care. To him, you had an endless supply of it, and beneath your cold glares and sarcastic front, you were so willing to give it to him.
Little did you know, he had a very clear assignment planned once his thesis was submitted. The assignment might take days, weeks, months, maybe even years. But however long it would take, he’d be willing to pay the prince if it meant that he could earn your heart and your love in the process.
Step 1? Ask you out properly.

GENSHIN IMPACT NAME MEANINGS - MONDSTADT
I wanna preface this by saying that I am by NO MEANS an expert in languages! I’m fluent in English, and that’s it- I’m just very interested in name symbolism!
That being said- it appears that all the Mondstadt names are, in fact, canonically English- Most of the Chinese names translate directly back to their English counterpart 1 to 1. Despite this, I included any possible meaning in their Chinese names, just in case!
Tumblr media
AETHER (ENG): A Greek God, the personification of the “Upper Sky”. Represents the air that the Gods breathe, rather than the air of mortals.
KONG 空 (CH): Empty, hollow, in vain, sky, air, free, spare time, free time.
SORA 空 (JP): Sky.
Notes: Definitely a correlation to the sky- With the Chinese translation, could be ‘Empty Sky’.
Tumblr media
LUMINE (ENG): To light up, to illuminate.
YING 荧 (CH): Fluorescent, amazing, glimmering.
HOTARU 蛍 (JP): Firefly.
Notes: All linked to light. Could represent the light to Aether’s sky? The light that it’s missing?
Tumblr media
PAIMON: An obedient king of Hell under Lucifer’s reign in “The Lesser Key of Solomon”, a book on demonology written mid-1700′s. He has 100-200 legions of demons and wears ‘a precious crown’.
“Teaches all arts, philosophy and sciences, and secret things; he can reveal all mysteries of the Earth, wind and water, what the mind is, and everything the conjurer wants to know, gives good familiars, dignities and confirms them, binds men to the conjurer's will.”
“If Paimon is cited alone, some offering or sacrifice must be done, and he will accept it; then two kings called Beball (Bebal or Labal) and Abalam (Abalim) will go to him together.”
Notes: ...I’m not saying that Paimon is the unknown God, but. Well. Also, Paimon’s name appears to be universal.
Tumblr media
KAEYA (ENG): A feminine Indian name meaning ‘Monsoon Flower’. However, it’s also a phonetic translation of his original Chinese name.
KAIYA 凯亚 (CHI): This isn’t a name in any databases. 凯 (Kai) means ‘Triumphant’, while 亚 (Ya) means ‘Inferior, second’.
GAIA ガイア (JP): Pretty much another translation, though in Japanese, it can be loosely translated to ‘Victory song’.
Notes: This is a difficult one. Unless anyone else has a better grasp on languages and understands it, please let me know! However, it may allude to his and Diluc’s fight... Somehow. Triumphant second son, maybe?
Tumblr media
AMBER (ENG): Fossilized tree resin. However, it’s also phonetically similar to the original name.
ANBO 安柏 (CHI): Again, this doesn’t seem to be a direct name. 安 (An) means “peace/quiet”, while 柏 (Bai) means “cypress tree/cedar”. Together it may mean a peaceful tree, but it could also just be a recreation of the English name ‘Amber’, due to their similarities.
ANBA アンバー (JP): Translates directly to ‘Amber’.
Notes: It’s at this point that I, a man who can only speak and read English, have made a mistake in doing this. I think her name really is just ‘Amber’, though.
Tumblr media
LISA (ENG): ‘Devoted to God/Oath from God’.
LISHA 丽莎 (CH): 丽 means ‘Beautiful’, but this is pretty much just a direct translation of ‘Lisa’.
RISA リサ  (JP): Translates directly to ‘Lisa’.
Notes: Her name is Lisa. Her name is just Lisa.
Tumblr media
DILUC (ENG): I couldn’t find any names here, let alone meanings.
DILUKE 迪卢克 (CH): 迪 means ‘To enlighten’, 卢 means... ‘Old Rice Vessel’? I’m not sure. 克 can be translated to the name of the Seventh of the Legendary Flame Emperors.
DIRRUKU ディルック (JP): Appears to be yet another phonetic translation of his name.
Notes: Genuinely cannot find anything non-genshin related to the name Diluc. Maybe the Flame Emperor thing is intentional, given he’s a Pyro user?
Edit: Anon brought up that his name is likely taken from the latin word ‘Diluculum’, which means ‘Twilight’. Similarly, ‘Crepus’, his father’s name, translates to ‘Dusk’.
Tumblr media
JEAN (ENG): ‘God is gracious’. Apparently, it’s of Medieval Scottish/English origin!
QIN 琴 (CH): Refers to the qin, a 7-stringed Chinese zither. “There are 3 category sounds produced by the Chinese Zither. Harmonics represents the sound from the heaven. Open strings represents the sound from the earth. Stopped strings represents the human beings.”
JIN ジン (JP): An actual Japanese name, most translations point to ‘human’ interpretations!
Notes: I’d wager that her name is meant to represent her humanity and love for Mondstadt, if it’s not just a translation.
Tumblr media
BARBARA (ENG): Linked to Saint Barbara, whom was killed by her father. She’s the patron of architects, geologists, artillarymen and stonemasons. Very heavy religious connotations- It’s also worth noting the similarities to the name ‘Barbatos’, though.
BABALA 芭芭拉 (CH): Considering the repeat phonetic, I’m fairly sure this is just a recreation of the name ‘Barbara’.
BABARA バーバラ (JP): Translates directly to ‘Barbara’.
Notes: Just Barbara. She’s just Barbara.
Tumblr media
BENNETT (ENG): “Blessed little one”, or a derivative of Benedict.
BANNITE 班尼特 (CH): Pretty much a direct translation of ‘Bennett’.
BENETTO ベネット (JP): Translates directly to ‘Bennett’.
Notes: baby boy
Tumblr media
DIONA (ENG): A variant of “Dione”, from Greek mythology. Said to be the mother of Aphrodite, and means “From the Sacred Spring”... Possibly referring to the event in Diona’s backstory, in which she was granted her bartending talent by a ‘Spring Fairy’ that she befriended.
DIAONA 迪奥娜 (CH): Translation of Diona.
DIONA ディオナ (JP): Same as above.
Notes: If you want to know more about that, see Diona’s lv5 story!
Tumblr media
FISCHL (ENG): A German surname meaning “Dweller at the sign of the little fish; the little dealer in fish.”
FEIXIEER 菲谢尔 (CH): Translates to “Fischer”, which is a similar German surname.
FISSHURU フィッシュル (JP): Translation.
Notes: “Prinzessin der Verurteilung” Translates to “Princess of Condemnation”. “Fischl von Luftschloss Narfidort” Translates to “Fischl from Narfidort Castle in the air”. I know this isn’t her real name, but I don’t want to spoil anyone, so I can do that separately.
Tumblr media
VENTI (ENG): ...It’s a starbucks drink? But it also means ‘Twenty’ in Italian.
WENDI 温迪 (CH): Translates directly to “Wendy”, which... Might be a reference to ‘windy’? 温 translates to ‘Temperature’, while 迪 has no real word translation. ‘Wendy’ as an English name was popularized by Peter Pan! I wonder if that has anything to do with Venti’s eternally youthful appearance?
WENTI ウェンティ (JP): Translation.
Notes: “In demonology, Barbatos is an earl and duke of Hell, ruling thirty legions of demons and has four kings as his companions to command his legions. His name derives from Latin barbatus, meaning ‘bearded, old man, philosopher’.” Okay... That sure ain’t him.
On another note, maybe the English translation changed ‘Wendy’ to ‘Venti’ because it’s a traditionally feminine name.
Edit: @silver-dust-12 pointed out that ‘Venti’ means ‘winds’ in latin!
Tumblr media
ALBEDO (ENG): Not actually a name. However, it IS a word. ‘The proportion of the incident light or radiation that is reflected by a surface, typically that of a planet or moon.’
On another note, in alchemy, it has a specific definition. Taken from wikipedia:
“In alchemy, albedo is one of the four major stages of the magnum opus, along with nigredo, citrinitas and rubedo. It is a Latinicized term meaning "whiteness". Following the chaos or massa confusa of the nigredo stage, the alchemist undertakes a purification in albedo, which is literally referred to as ablutio – the washing away of impurities. This phase is concerned with "bringing light and clarity to the prima materia (personal material)".
The albedo is the second stage of alchemy. In this process, the subject is divided into two opposing principles to be later coagulated to form a unity of opposites or coincidentia oppositorum during rubedo.
Alchemists also applied it to an individual's soul after the first phase is completed, which entailed the decay of matter.”
ABEIDUO 阿贝多 (CH): Translation of ‘Albedo’.
ARUBEDO アルベド (JP): Translation of ‘Albedo’.
Note: Interestingly, his is the only name so far that is a pre-existing word... Apart from the Travelers’.
Tumblr media
KLEE (ENG): A German surname that means ‘Clover’. Likely related to her clover symbolism!
KELI 可莉 (CH): This only brought back Genshin results, so... Pretty sure it’s just a translation of ‘Klee’.
KURE クレー (JP): Near certain this is another translation.
Note: I’d say the English is what it’s meant to be, here!
Tumblr media
MONA (ENG): Means ‘Noble and Aristocratic’, which is pretty fitting.
MONA 莫娜 (CH): Translates to ‘Mona’.
MONA モナ (JP): Translates to ‘Mona’.
Notes: Easy one!
Tumblr media
NOELLE (ENG): ‘Christmas’, or ‘Birth’. She was born in March, though...
NUOAIER 诺艾尔 (CH): Translates to ‘Noelle’. 诺 means ‘Promise’.
NOERU ノエル (JP): Translates to ‘Noel’, the masculine form of the name.
Notes: I find it a little weird that this is her name? But it could be due to the name’s involvement in religious texts. Also those roses look like shrek’s ears
Tumblr media
RAZOR (ENG): “An instrument with a sharp blade or set of blades.” Another word name, fitting considering he wasn’t raised by humans.
LEIZE 雷泽 (CH): Almost a translation of ‘Razor’. Can’t find anything else.
REZA レザー (JP): Translates to ‘Leather’.
Notes: I mean, pretty self explanatory. Wolf boy.
Tumblr media
SUCROSE (ENG): “A compound which is the chief component of cane or beet sugar.” Word name, again!
SHATANG 砂糖 (CH): Translates to ‘Granulated sugar’. Literally the Chinese word for sugar.
SUKUROOSU スクロース (JP): Translates to ‘Sucrose’.
Notes: Definitely compared to sugar... Which is cute :)
---
And that’s all of the currently released Mondstadt characters! I’ll follow this up with a Liyue post soon. sorry for how long it got, so remember to tag as ‘long post’ for your followers’ convenience!

Anon wrote: Hi. I hope you had/are having a great summer break. I (INTP) am hoping for some perspective about an issue. Recently, my mother, whom I hadn’t seen in a while, became incredibly frustrated that I corrected her with an alleged “I know everything” attitude.
It’s an issue of concern because she revealed that I always do this. I guess this was the straw that broke it, especially given that what we were discussing was very trivial. (Maybe the frivolousness of the subject is precisely what made my correction seem more pedantic, unnecessary, arrogant.) She says that my attitude disregards her long life experience, and that if she were a stranger, she would think of me as a “snot-nosed brat who knows nothing about life” instead of as a “wise young person”, which is the viable alternative. She said that I am closed-minded and that I shoot everything down. (The problem of small-mindedness is what you addressed the only other time I wrote to you.)
I don’t know why I come off as arrogant. I’m sure that I’m not. I asked my mother what it was that made her think that, which she thought was a silly question because what she sensed was a general demeanor rather than specific behaviors. In the end we were only able to establish that my lack of eye contact was one of those factors. I can work on that, but surely that’s not determinant. What makes people think of others as arrogant? Should I stop correcting people? I don’t correct others in order to feel superior to them. I do it because I like to debate, in order to keep my thinking sharp, and because there is something painful about friends/family having false notions. I think it’s fair to say that my intention isn’t rooted in arrogant soils.
Granted, my suggestion of stopping correcting people is black-and-white, given that there is the grey option of changing the *way* I correct people. I’m just wondering if it’s an unhealthy habit in the first place. But given how prevalent a thought process it is (i.e. questioning people’s statements and finding faults), the process of getting rid of it may be akin to self-directed psychological violence. I mean, this is the same mode of being that makes me good at what I’m good at. (There’s also the option of keeping the thought process, but not correcting people aloud, but I don’t know what else there is to talk about other than analyzing ideas and their faults. Maybe I should analyze ideas for their strengths too, and express that side more than the faults.)
So anyway, let’s go with grey: So far I’ve tried thinking of an arrogant person that I know in order to understand my behavior, but I can’t think of anyone. Also, no matter how hard I try to put myself in someone else’s shoes in order to simulate an interaction with myself, it doesn’t really work, and I can’t see the arrogance, except if I were to just tell someone “that’s wrong” without any explanation. (I wonder if that’s what went wrong in the conversation with my mother.) Either way, this whole issue boils down to the fact that I’m not arrogant by any reasonable criteria that I found online, but that I come off as such. This was longer than intended. Thanks for your kindness and help.
-----------------------
Here are some questions for you to reflect on. They are meant to increase awareness of your underlying assumptions, beliefs, and values. Answer honestly:
Do you care about your mom? Do you care about how she's faring, what she's experiencing, what she's thinking or feeling, what she needs and desires, what she hopes for or aspires to, etc?
If you care, how do you SHOW your care to her?
If you don't care, how does that affect your behavior toward her?
Do you believe that the mother-child relationship only goes one-way? (Is it the mom's job to do for you but you owe her nothing?)
You say you like to debate to sharpen your mind. Innocent enough. I like to roller skate to keep myself physically fit. In an ideal world, I would never take my skates off. Does my enthusiasm for roller skating mean that I slap my skates on anywhere, any time? No. Surely it is inappropriate to skate around a hospital or the supermarket. Not only could I seriously harm myself, I would also be exhibiting flagrant disregard for the safety and well-being of others.
What you like to do for yourself sometimes comes into conflict with other people. If you care about people and hope to have healthy and happy relationships with them, you have to take their needs and wants into consideration in every interaction. You have to abide by ethical rules and principles that allow your needs to be met without neglecting the needs of others or interfering with their ability to get their needs met. Without ethics, society wouldn't be able to function, because it would just be a free-for-all.
You mention small-mindedness. It is quite small-minded to walk around the world only thinking about what you need/want. In the best case scenario, you are completely oblivious to others, and they will perceive you as clueless or self-absorbed. In the worst case scenario, you only interact with people for your own personal gain, and that would make you an exploitative or even abusive person. Is that the kind of person you want to be?
Do you basically treat people as though their sole purpose on earth is to debate you and help you sharpen your mind - to serve you? Do you launch into debates with people without asking for consent or checking to see if they want to be corrected? If you do, they will call you arrogant, not because you've put yourself on a pedestal and call yourself superior like an evil cartoon character, but because you are communicating to them that your needs/wants are most important AND you don't give a damn about theirs.
Webster's definition of arrogance: "an insulting way of thinking or behaving that comes from believing that you are better, smarter, or more important than other people". You believe that you know better, otherwise, you wouldn't grant yourself the social authority to intrude on people's boundaries, invalidate their experience, and correct them uninvited. You believe that you are smarter, otherwise, you wouldn't automatically assume the dominant social role of corrector. You behave as though you are the more important member of the relationship because your main priority is YOUR need to feel better (about your skills or about what others believe) while overlooking the other person's needs. Seems like you fit the definition quite well.
Despite that, I wouldn't call you arrogant because I understand that small-mindedness is a difficult problem to overcome. I see the effort that you're putting in to understand it. I'm charitable because I'm not the one who was hurt by your behavior. When people feel hurt, they often have difficulty expressing it. Maybe it comes out clumsily or they aren't able to explain their hurt without hurting you in return. Expressing one's true feelings is to make oneself vulnerable. If someone doesn't trust you to understand and validate their feelings or, worse, they believe that you will attack them for their feelings, they will not be completely honest with you. Your mom is trying her best to give you the benefit of the doubt by saying "if you were a stranger...", but she doesn't feel comfortable enough with you to express her hurt fully and explicitly as it happens. Why? Because the very reason she is hurt in the first place is that you have shown very little regard for her feelings. Following from the previous post of yours, the root of the problem is that you have such a poor understanding of feelings to begin with that you view them as inconsequential in yourself and others (very immature Fe).
I believe you have no ill-intent. I have said before that the typical Ti dom never sets out to hurt people on purpose. Rather, they hurt people unintentionally because their perspective is too small: 1) they don't grasp that other people's needs may be very different from their own and thereby fail to consider them, 2) they don't know how to empathize with different perspectives and validate them, and/or 3) they don't understand that SHOWING love and care is necessary for people to justify continued investment in the relationship.
In other words, Ti doms tend to hurt people out of negligence or acts of omission. Some of them get frustrated at not being able to solve their relationship problems. They might try to convince themselves that doing nothing means that no harm can be done, so they adopt a passive stance in the relationship and perhaps even train themselves to keep their mouth shut (self-violence). They fail to understand that there's more than one way to cause hurt. Instead of learning better relationship skills, they check out mentally and emotionally. Being checked out only makes it worse because you hurt yourself and you keep hurting others by being even less attentive to their needs.
The foundation of meaningful relationships is showing care. In a healthy relationship, people trust you to care for their emotional needs and not violate their personal boundaries. If you only attend to your own needs/wants in social interaction, you are signalling that you don't really care about the other person. This problem with your mom shows that you give little to no consideration for emotional needs and personal boundaries. If you don't want friends, it's entirely your choice to be alone for the rest of your life, pretending that you never leave any footprints behind you. If you want friends, you'll have to put out more effort to be a better friend, by paying more attention to the consequences of your behavior.
Doing things that violate trust and boundaries, even if unintentional, causes hurt. When people feel hurt and don't feel safe to express the hurt, they are liable to say/do negative things. To have good emotional intelligence is to see past the surface of their negative words/behavior and grasp the underlying emotional needs that were unmet and/or the personal boundaries that were violated. Only then can you be a morally responsible member of a relationship, in terms of owning all the ways that you impact people, both positively and negatively.
Arrogant people don't care about the social impact they produce. As long as they get what they want and don't lose anything, the existence of others is of little importance to them. If your mom is important to you, then learn how to show it better by listening to her when she tells you about her needs/wants. You hyperfocus on the literal meaning of the word "arrogant" and whether it is true/false of you, as though proving it false means that there's nothing wrong. You need to listen to the people you have hurt, if you want to understand why your behavior is hurtful. Alternatively, you need to educate yourself about emotional needs, interpersonal boundaries, and what constitutes un/ethical behavior and why.

Hello lovely! Hope you're doing well. 💖 If you're taking Mysme requests still, I was wondering if you could do headcannons for the RFA+V (and Saeran if you want) with a female MC who has depression and struggles with being overweight and the insecurity that that brings, but instinctively hides her stress and prioritizes the others over herself?
anon are you Me. Are You. this is too specific and i relate 100%, i'm sorry you feel this way, know i love & appreciate you <33
I'll use she/her pronouns for MC since you specified them!
RFA + Saeran with an insecure, depressed, overweight MC:
Yoosung:
* Listen, I love him, but boy would take a while to realise that MC's insecure, especially if she keeps hiding her own anxiety to help him when he's upset
* He will tell her he loves her CONSTANTLY, and when you don't love yourself, hearing that can...hurt sometimes, makes you doubt yourself. If she doesn't voice this concern, he won't take much note of it-he'll understand when she's upset, of course, and do his best to help, but he's not the best at reading between the lines, so she'll need to be a little bit more upfront about it
* The one scenario I can picture, is him coming home one day, perhaps finding MC getting dressed or after a shower-standing in front of a mirror, gaze averted, shoulders tense.
* He's happy to see her, but notices her stiff smile, how she flinches away when he goes to hug her, and when he asks what's wrong, if she says 'nothing' he'll insist until she talks to him, tells him her insecurities, how she doesn't get what he sees in her, how she'll be happy when they're together but then feel so empty the next moment.
* He'll feel SO guilty for not recognising the signs, but he won't beat himself up over it-what's most important is helping her, not wallowing in self-pity.
* He'll sit with MC for as long as it takes that day, will hold her close and list all the things he loves about her even if she doesn't believe a single one of them. He can't relate to the insecurities about her body, though he'll try to convince her he loves her as is-because it's the truth! He can however, relate to what it's like to feel empty, to force yourself through the motions of daily life while shrivelling up inside.
* So he vows to help, in anyway possible.
Zen:
* Listen, I refuse to believe that behind all that narcissism there aren't insecurities stemming from all the shit he's been through in his childhood. Boy's developed narcissism to cope with what he thought of himself as a kid, and I stand by that.
* So he's more observant than you might think-when he sees MC checking herself in the mirror, poking at her stomach, how she'll sigh and put a big hoodie over her t-shirt, how she shies away from physical affection, how seeing him shirtless oftentimes makes her feel bad about herself, that he 'has to be seen with her'-he notices it all, and hates it, hates that her brain made her think she's anything less than gorgeous.
* He tried asking her about it but she insists she's fine and she's no more or less insecure than the average person-ever the one to try and keep his worry at bay.
* So instead he'll let her know he loves her every single day, will tell her he loves her body, will post online about how proud he is to be with her-for all the world to know, so no one will ever dare question her worth.
* It's an uphill battle, and it's not one Zen can win for her, but he'll do his best to help, so she can realise her own self-worth.
Jaehee:
* Baehee would be one of the most observant people in the RFA-though she doesn't share the same insecurities, she can understand them, and will often prod MC, asking her to talk about anything that might be bothering her.
* If MC says 'it's nothing, please don't worry', she won't push much; she doesn't want her to completely clam up. But she'll always be gentle, holding MC's hands as she says she'll always be here if MC wants to talk, that she helped her so much she wants to be MC's support too.
* I know how weird it feels lending clothes to others when you're chubby-so I feel like sharing clothes with Jaehee would be...an ordeal. Being unable to wear Jaehee's skinny jeans, whilst she can fit into MC's, would sting, and it'd only add onto MC's guilt-she doesn't want to feel this way about her girlfriend! She loves her, appreciates her, doesn't ever want her to know about these thoughts.
* But again, Jaehee knows. She understands it, so-she takes MC shopping, and together they buy matching pairs of pyjamas and t-shirts, things that, whilst they don't need to share, can wear and be reminded of one another.
* "I love you as you are-you accepted me for who I am, so let me do the same for you" she'll say, will hug MC and hold her close until she lets her feelings out, talks about her worries.
* Jaehee would be eager to help search for a good psychologist, to get MC professional help-she knows what she can do as MC's girlfriend isn't much, so she wants MC to get the best help she can.
*And of course, she'll be there for MC every step of the way
Jumin:
* oof...listen. He loves MC SO much, will buy her the moon if she asks, but this man..he's only recently discovered his own emotions. He's emotionally dense, and when MC says she's fine, he tends to take it at face value. Why would MC lie to him, after all? She trusts him enough to let him know if something's bothering her, doesn't she?
* Not to say he doesn't realise there's something wrong-he's a businessman, reading his clients is a part of his job description, emotions included. So when MC's smile stretches thin, when she's overwhelmed but swallows it down in favour of acting like everything's okay, he knows-maybe not to the extent that others might've, but he can tell something's wrong, and he'll honestly be upset MC doesn't talk to him about it.
* So he'll just...sit down and talk to her about it. Ask her to be upfront with him, tell her he wants her to be happy, that he wants to be there for her and help her any way he can, but can't do that if she doesn't talk with him and let him know what's wrong.
* If MC breaks down-if she cries, hides her face in her hands, he'll be shell-shocked. He's so used to her smiling, even at the face of adversity, that seeing her like this...he has no idea what to do at first, not one used to emotional outbursts.
* Insticts soon kick in though, and he gathers her in his arms, rubs his hands on her back, letting her cry until she calms down, no matter how long that takes.
* When she tells him about her depression, her insecurities, he'll nod, quietly listening to her worries, formulating a plan of attack.
* He quite bluntly doesn't understand why she's insceure. She's beautiful?? He loves her exactly as she is?? If she wants to change something about her appearance she's more than welcome to, but to want to do that because she feels she must is...absurd. He simply won't allow it.
* I know it's a cliche in a lot of these headcanons, that he'd buy perfectly tailored clothes for MC, that he'd purchase the finest, most flattering clothes for her to feel as beautiful as she is in his eyes, but it's true-he would, hell, he'd probably read up on fashion himself so he'd be able to help her pick out outfits. He'd do anything for MC, and that's NOT an exaggeration.
* Plus he'd insist on her going to therapy-I headcanon that after realising his own emotions he'd probably start attending therapy sessions himself, to try and get a better read on his emotions, so he'll be a pretty strong advocate for therapy, and he wants the very best for MC.
Seven:
* HAHAHAHAHAH.
* This man...not only can he absoloutely relate, it's honestly a big reason why their relationship is rocky, to say the least.
* Having two depressed, self-sarificing people who'd rather bury their emotions in the depths of their gut rather than admit emotional vulnerability in a relationship? Yeah, not a good idea.
* He'll be using humour to cope with his depression, trying to get MC to open up instead, whilst MC's just pretending she's Never Had a Negative Thought in her life, trying to get Seven to open up instead. You see the issue, yeah?
* Honestly it'll take a lot of walking on eggshells and dancing around the issue until either one of them breaks down, admitting defeat, or they share an honest, adult conversation about their emotions and about how they both need help-which, realistically speaking, I find quite unlikely to happen.
* Not to say the relationship won't work out-God, Seven wants it to work out so, so much. He'll tell MC he loves her constantly, he'll make it so in order to enter the apartment, she'll need to say one thing she loves about herself each day at the security door before it can be unlocked, he'll do everything in his power to help her with her body issues because he loves her, worships her as is.
* The ideal solution honestly would be someone else from the RFA-Jaehee probably, lol, coming to boink them both over the head and drag them to therapy, both individual and couple's sessions, so they can finally start expressing their emotions to one another in a way that ISN'T memes or self-deprecating humour.
* It'll take a while but-they'll make it work. They love one another too much not to.
V/Jihyun:
* This man. This sweet, sweet man.
* He knows what it's like to be insecure, to feel uncomfortable in your own skin, knows what depression is like, how it takes a hold of you and leaves you a shell of who you once were, or worse-who you could've been.
* He's so attuned to his own emotions, he's learnt to recognise the signs in himself-and ergo can tell when someone else is also suffering, although to what extent, it's not always easy to tell.
* He hates MC feeling this way about herself. He loves her so much, she's the one that pulled him out of his own self-depracating, self-sacrifising depressed state, has helped him seek help and become a better man-he wants to be able to support her too, wants to do everything in his power to help.
* But helping someone who won't even admit there's something wrong...isn't easy. He's so gentle and patient though, and slowly helps tear MC's walls down. He'll never prod too much, will simply..be there for her. Will hug her, run his fingers down her sides. If she squirms away, afraid of him feeling her love handles, he'll simply smile and say he loves her, finds every single thing about her beautiful-he'll purposely trail his hands to said love handles, if she's comfortable with it, looking her straight in the eye when he says "Every part of you, I'm in love with. Please don't take my words lightly."
* If she's up for it, he'd love to photograph her-but it's not easy, when you're so awkward in your own skin, to accept to be viewed through a camera lens. So instead he'll draw her, his sketchbook filled with doodles of her face when she's happy, when she's concentrating, her body as she sleeps, head smooshed into the pillow.
* He'll never push her, letting her take things at her own pace-but he'll be there to aid in every single step
Saeran:
* I know I said it for Seven and V to but...out of everyone, I feel like he'd understand MC's predicament the most. Insecure about his frail body, dealing with the trauma Mint Eye has left him with, trying to combat his demons and anxieties whilst trying to return to being a member of society-he's going through...a lot, to say the least.
* So it's honestly understandable how MC will swallow down her own issues, do her best to support Saeran instead. Will she break in the process? Perhaps. She doesn't care. Not if she can help him in the process.
* Saeran might not notice it initially, too focused on his own issues which-honestly, understandable. It's not everyday you leave a cult after all. But the more he talks with MC, the more he realises she's hiding so much from him, slowly notices how often she forces a smile on her face, how she'll nervously cover her mid-riff with her arms whilst sitting down, how she shies away from attention-
*He's almost never the one to initiate physical affection with her, and she doesn't initiate it much either-but when he does, when he leans in to kiss her and feels her tense he panics, pulls away because-is she reacting this way because she doesn't want him?
* When she explains it's not that, that she loves him and wants to be with him, he'll press the issue, ask her why she'll shy away from him then-not in a mean way, he'll just honestly be so worried, wondering what's wrong and how he could help.
* And when/if MC does tell him about her issues...there's not honestly much he could do. He'll tell her he loves her, that she's beautiful, that her body's a vessel to carry her soul around, and that soul is so wonderful it radiates joy to everyone around her, but he knows how hard it is to believe such words when in this mindset.
* So instead, he suggests they go to therapy together. He knows it's not the easiest thing in the world-but he wants her to get the help she deserves. He'll hold her hand on the way to her first session, will wait outside for her, smiling up at her when she's done.
* Things will slowly get better for the both of them.

Ahh sorry hi again! I’m the one who sent the diplomat’s son anon! I for sure agree that Bruce’s reaction is the point more so than Jason’s actions in that issue, & that focusing on Bruce’s reaction & what that means for their relationship is more interesting overall, I was just sort of curious about Jay’s behaviour in your eyes lmao. (This isn’t me trying to ask again, just clarifying why I asked, sorry). Also - & this isn’t meant as a dig at Bruce or anything like I think it makes their conflict more complex in a way that also makes sense- but I find it really interesting that Bruce places almost 100% of the onus for Jason’s issues on Jason’s parents (which tbf we know for sure he was struggling w based on some of Alfred’s statements such as finding Jason crying in his bedroom) rather than taking into account that what happened w Gloria was probably super traumatic for Jason, especially when taking into account the prior indications that violence against women is something particularly triggering for Jason. Like, it’s honestly super intriguing & I think it sort of speaks to the fact Bruce wants to understand & help Jason so very, very much but the worlds they come from are so vastly different that they aren’t always on the same page. Blegh, I’m rambling. Again, sorry if this is like annoying.
this isn't annoying at all, i completely agree! there really is so much to delve into with bruce as someone who holds a lot of compassion and care in his heart for victims but is not necessarily in a position to always understand them bc of the position he's in materially. obv his relationship with tim likely wasn't written with this deeply in any writer's mind but i almost wonder if one could posit that (at least prior to editorial putting stephanie on their hitlist and thus targeting bruce and tim's relationship as well by using her to drive them apart) their relationship was carried on a little more smoothly bc they came from similar backgrounds, so tim didn't necessarily have the same brand of baggage as jason or the type of unorthodox upbringing that dick was used to. bruce has a lot of privilege as a rich white man and it seems people only ever want to delve into this in terms of "well he could help all of gotham's villains if he just gave them money and therapy" and not in terms of his relationships with the people in his life and how he sometimes inadvertently dismisses their concerns bc he doesn't recognize the specifics of some of them. bc like you said, he wants to understand and help, but sometimes that's not enough, and deconstructing internalized biases takes time and effort. obv bruce knows that jason saved himself, but that he even believes jason needs to be saved to begin with is something to unpack. and if writers cared more about jason being an empathetic person who cares about the other people in his community rather than just going on a classist murder rampage, then we could have some of those conversations where he challenged bruce for having restricted views, but unfortunately writers aren't self aware enough for that ajkgjfdlhgfd

EIJI OTORI
From Anon:
Eiji Otori is another member of HEAVENS and he is a down-to-earth type of character. One can say he is a cinnamon roll as he looks out for HEAVENS and his brother, Eiichi. Eiji talks in a formal manner to people outside of HEAVENS and addresses them by their surname like the time he worked with Tokiya for Mighty Aura, or when he was working with Camus and Masato for Feather in Hand. Around HEAVENS, Eiji talks casually, calling them by their first name. He is very mindful of other members of HEAVENS and Eiji keeps an open mind for ways to improve his skills as an idol and to help out his bandmates come to a solution where both sides agree. Eiji speaks very fondly of the people he works with formality and a lot of respect.
What I love about Eiji is his relationship with his brother, Eiichi Otori. The two have a strong bond as Eiichi looked after and took care of Eiji when growing up. The two of them are inseparable and do a lot together while looking after each other. Personally, their sibling bond is what I wish to have with my sibling as well, even though we're complete opposites like day and night! Their interactions are easily seen throughout the anime, you can even see their sibling bond show the most through HEAVENS Radio as Eiichi and Eiji are the co-hosts. If there is anything that I'd like to know more about Eiji, it would be about his hobby, gardening. He has a lot of knowledge on plants and perhaps agriculture. It'd be nice to see HEAVENS talk about their hobbies one day. But all in all, Eiji is a great character that I appreciate with a heart of gold!
From Anon:
Eiji Otori, the 4th member of HEAVENS is one of my two most favorite characters in Utapri. I was originally drawn to his kind and gentle demeanor, that made him such an easily lovable character. He was introduced in the 4th season of the anime in the cross idol unit episodes. The way he treated Tokiya besides knowing he was part of the rival idol group ended up becoming an essential part of Tokiya’s later character growth. Although Eiji is meant to be a foil for Tokiya’s character their personalities are completely polar opposites, their devotion to wanting to be an idol being one of the only similarities besides level headedness. Eiji is his own character, right down the way he speaks to the way he sings. Eiji seems to always carry the group in a loving and family-like way, even going as far as having domestic hobbies like gardening and baking. We always see him and even hear the way he interacts with the other members of HEAVENS on the radio show as if they were an inseparable family. Eiichi, his older brother and the leader of HEAVENS loves him in a way that is so complex but Eiji will always love him back with every fiber of his being to the deepest parts of his soul. There is a deep connection between the brothers that is so beautiful that even poetry couldn’t express, it’s more profound then words can show. It’s a bond they share that only they know, like a secret.
However, even then there is so much more about Eiji that makes him such a wonderful character. When it comes to myself, Eiji hits a bit close to home in a more personal way. Perhaps that is also a factor in why I love him so much. I empathize with him and I can see through his eyes in ways only a younger sibling would know. As a younger sister to a sibling who has always been in the spotlight in some form of way with a big presence, I always lived in her shadow, but I admired her and cared about her above anything else. The way Eiji feels about Eiichi is something that I can personally relate with and understand. Eiichi is an essential part of Eiji’s character and the anime does not lack to show this, nor does it lack to show that Eiji is just as much an essential part of Eiichi’s character. It’s more obvious in the radio show that is hosted by the two brother but it’s not fully ignored either in the anime. I love how Eiji interacts with all of the characters, and seems to find ways to treat everyone with kindness even if they aren’t kind to him in return. He admires those who show a deep love for the things he does, and respects those who are more experienced then he is. He’s always eager to learn
and please. He’s the kind of person you’d always want around and you’d want a hug when things get rough. Eiji is definitely the most pure hearted character of all the Utapri characters. And, I’ll always stand by that through and through.
VAN KIRYUIN
From @whereisvanderwood:
Kiryuin Van. Where to start? He’s cocky. He’s cocky as all hell. There’s something in his air that is poised yet undignified. Childish yet mature. The man is founded on juxtaposition, not dissimilar to a painting of Picasso. His ability to be unique in an industry that begs for individuality, to rise above a tidal wave of competition and stand apart from other fish in the sea, is awe-inspiring. Expectation is dead to him; though the oldest member of Heavens, the weight of bearing the role as ‘most mature’ or the ‘parent’ of the group couldn’t be further from his concern. He is only any dimension of himself he wants to be at any given time. Dumb bitch by morning, bad bitch by night. Much like his bandmates, his confidence and intimidating aura is unwavering. He claims his victory before a race begins, and I couldn’t say if that undying faith in oneself is a skill or a sin. Whatever it is, he owns it. He shamelessly, unapologetically owns who he is and shares it with his fans, friends and enemies.
Also, he’s hot. He’s very appealing to the human eye. His ruggedness reminds me of a warm blanket in winter. His voice, oh his voice. If the world was about to blow up and he just said “No it won’t”, in his own way, I think I’d believe him. Regardless of what he says being juvenile or mature, he’s always authentic. No sugar coats, no little white lies, only genuity. As just said before, he is who he is and wouldn’t change for anyone if it wasn’t in his own best interest. Who couldn’t love a guy like that?
YAMATO HYUGA
From @kusagiiiii:
I'll be honest, I used to forget Yamato exists alot LMAO I fell in love with him when I was looking at a HEAVENS group photo! I think he is a very stronk, very cute and a very soft boy! in some ways haha he's my type
I honestly wish there would be more story on the HEAVENS boys since they all seem like they had a pretty rough past so yee that's basically it~
From Sammy:
Everybody, listen up! It’s Sammy here! Are you ready for some strong appreciation? Let’s shout it out! Yeah!!
Where do I begin when it comes to Yamato? It took me a while to actually like him. At first, I wasn’t a fan of how he was when he first showed up in the anime. I still remember when Yamato was one of the few HEAVENS members people really didn’t like or care much for, next to Eiichi and Nagi.
I used to be one of those people too with Yamato. I found him to be very stubborn, but over time after listening to HEAVENS Radio; The Drama CDs; Watching Maji Love Kingdom, etc… I came to realize there’s so much more to him.
I’ve learned a lot more about him, especially through role-playing as him, and my love for Yamato skyrocketed. Even with all the new content that’s been coming out for HEAVENS lately like Black Garden and Endless Score, my love grows even more every day. Yamato sneaked his way up to being one of my best boys.
Yamato is HEAVENS’ Strongest member. (Seriously, how the heck does this boy train everyday and do so much of it?!) He’s not always aggressive and violent. He’s actually a really thoughtful person who cares about his friends a lot, even being very protective of them. Yamato is the kind of person that’ll immediately stop what he’s doing, and only think about how to help the other person feel better.
A lot of things tend to be overlooked for him cause of how he’s written in the anime, and there’s fans who only pay attention to that. Not even giving the extra content a thought or a single glance.
As Ryuya’s younger brother, Yamato has his own insecurities, especially since he’s always seen as just a shadow. He’s been trapped in darkness where he feels he’s not good enough to be appreciated and loved as his own person. He doesn’t know what to do and which path to take. Yamato only became an idol just to defeat and finally be better than Ryuya at something. I feel that goal is still there, but it’s not a major one like before. Now, Yamato has people like the other members of HEAVENS, the angels, and the other idols. He found his light and happiness.
Overall, Yamato is the kind of person he wants everyone to be proud of. He wants to always share his strongest power and energy, carrying the burden of everybody’s smiles. Wanting to see those around him happy and be the best they can be.
Another part that I really like about Yamato is whenever he gets embarrassed. I can’t help, but find that really cute cause it’s something we don’t see or hear out of him a lot.
There’s also the times he demonstrates how much he loves food. Even though he overeats and knows he can’t help it when he’s hungry, I really liked when Yamato stated that if eating makes you happy, go for it. Just make sure you train afterwards to burn off calories. It helps people feel good about themselves.
Even the times when Yamato struggles with difficult words, specifically English and kanji. It’s embarrassing for him to admit, but he knows he’s not good at that sort of thing. What I really like about this is HEAVENS is always willing to help him, even Tokiya and Cecil. They help keep things simple and easy for Yamato to understand.
There’s a lot you can say I just simply vibe with when it comes to Yamato, and I love him. Hope everyone enjoys this long appreciation of this strong boy, and I hope you all love him too!
SHION AMAKUSA
From Anon:
When I saw Shion for the first time, he caught my attention with his beautiful appearance. His cream-white hair, his periwinkle eyes and his pale skin were a wonderful combination that I just couldn't ignore. Physically, he was exactly the type of character I love… Even his hairstyle is great! And what to say about his pretty face! To me, he looked like an angel.
His style in clothes is something I also like about him. With all this mixed, the only word I can use to describe him is "perfect".
But, of course, there's more than just physical appearance. Shion's way of speaking, as we all know, is quite… Particular. And those beautiful words made me be more interested in this boy, even if they were a bit difficult to understand. This characteristic is something that, in my opinion, makes him special, not only in his group but among all the groups.
That poetic way of speaking is a beautiful combination with his voice. When he speaks I find it so mystical… And when he sings his solo songs I feel relaxed and even a bit emotional. He's not an angel just physically, he also sings like one!
But what made me love him completely was his personality. To be honest, at first I didn't understand why he acted so hostile to Cecil and signed with him, but when it was explained later I could see his point of view and I felt sorry for him, for how he was feeling and the big sacrifice he was making if we take into account his thoughts.
Loyalty is something I value a lot, and Shion has a huge loyalty towards his friends. After that incident, he changes his way of thinking and he starts getting more friendly to the rest, something I find beautiful.
I also find him very cute, an extra point for me to like him. His -sometimes- childish attitude is adorable! And how he acts around his friends… So lovely!
I also feel a bit similar to him in some aspects, such as listening to the same song again and again, liking birds or even usually feeling sleepy, besides other things. These similarities make me feel connected in some way with him.
Shion is a very special character for me, and I can't wait to see more content about him, to know more about this wonderful boy, for example, about his family, where he is from, how he ended up in HEAVENS, how he started to speak the way he does… There are a lot of things we don't know yet and I hope we can get more information about Shion soon!

could i get some hcs of the brothers (how many is up to you!!) with an epileptic MC? like, they end up having absence and myoclonic seizures, and maybe hurt themselves a bit? sorry if this is too specific adjkd it just happened to me this morning and. i accidentally flung my spoon across the room while eating cereal 🙈 i also stabbed myself in the eye with my thumb but Eh
OMG Anon!!! I hope you’re okay!? Seizures are really serious and dangerous, I hope you’re recovering alright?! Sending you a bunch of hugs and head pats u-u In other somewhat unrelated news, I’m glad people are so comfortable coming to me with these sorts of HCs. Means I really am doing an impactful job in my research and writing these sorts of things comfort you. It also helps me learn a little more about people's everyday struggles. Here’s to hoping for a bright future for you all!
I tried to include more symptoms and types of seizures (?) in this post, but I don’t think I was able to touch on them all? Usually when I do HCs like this, I have something like an “interview” with the asker beforehand to make sure I’m getting their experience probably, and a better understanding of the disorders. I hope this is portrayed properly!!! ~
Lucifer
He’s lecturing you, but pauses for a moment to question your reasoning for making pacts with his brothers. He’s expecting you to answer, but you don’t. You simply daze off at him. You weren’t trying to piss him off, but you weren’t all there in the moment. Your hands twitched and your hand accidently shot up behind you, as if you were pulling your hand away from a snapping dog. He took that as a warning.
The second time it occurred was over dinner. It was just you and him, enjoying the meal you prepared for dinner and waited for him to arrive home for it. You had another epileptic seizure, and spaced out for longer than normal.
When you came to, Lucifer was out of his chair at your side, checking to make sure you were alright. He was a bit rattled to say the least, but when he waved his hand in front of your eyes and they followed, he started to relax a bit more. He questioned what just happened, but with the slot of time missing in your brain, you couldn’t completely answer him.
It’s when you start jerking your body about uncontrollably, as if something is possessing you to behave in such a manner than he finally looks into it. Admittedly, he should have done so sooner, this isn’t normal behavior after all. What he discovers is a bit upsetting, as there’s no “cure” or “fix” for it. He doesn’t bring it up to you- you’re probably sensitive about the topic. But he’s far more patient with you now, knowing that these seizures are just a part of your life.
Mammon
Oh what the fuck was that? Are ya’ good? You just kinda... slapped the fuck out of yourself there? Why’d you do that?
This pea-brain probably doesn’t pick up on too many symptoms at first. You’re just his weird, hopeless human. While that’s nice, a little more attention would be grateful.
“Hey Mammon, when did you dye your hair yellow?” “What’re ya talkin’ about? My hair is white.” “Huh, in this light it looks yellow. And did you get a tan?” He thinks you’re weird but it’s okay. It sort of offends you that he thinks this way, it’s not like you’re doing this on purpose. You genuinely thought he dyed his hair yellow- and that he darkened his skin.
There are also times when he uses the same cologne but something smells different about it. The whiplash of suddenly having one smell and then be overwhelmed by something entirely different, or have this random dizziness... well, at least Mammon is always there to catch you if you lose your balance. As much of an airhead as he is, he’s still a helpful and supportive one.
Leviathan
Your seizures scare the shit out of them. You have the worst ones with him because while in his room, the bright flashing lights are somehow worse. Brighter, even more than before, and before you know it you’re having an out of body experience, feeling your body twitch and tremor, but unable to stop it.
You can hear Leviathan freaking out in the distance, making sure you lay down flat and keep you from swallowing your own tongue. Despite having a panic attack after the fact, he’s relatively calm for the most part. He doesn’t have any real knowledge on these things yet, and he’s not sure if he’s prepared for it.
Other times you may just pace the floor as if thinking. You’re constantly rubbing your hands together, looking left and right erratically. Sometimes when you do this, you’re muttering nonsense, and other times, you’re silent. Leviathan isn’t sure which one is scarier.
He does research on why you behave this way sometimes. You don’t have them too often, but it’s happened at least three times and it’s scared him each time. When he discovers his solution, he tries to bring it up with you in a calm and quiet manner. Either that or he waits until next time because bringing it up unprompted can be awkward.
Satan
Oh. He knows what’s going on. He’s got doctor friends. He sort of just... asks. Just to be sure. Whether you tell him or not, he knows what’s really going on here. He won’t judge. Obviously not. You can’t control your behavior with those sorts of things.
He’s aware that seizures can kick up anywhere, so he watches you carefully. You could have one while walking down the steps and end up falling and hurting yourself. You could get one while preparing dinner and accidently stab yourself- or you can even get one while driving. He’s always prepared to take over for you when you need it.
There was one time you finally did come to him. To confide in him about your problems. It was silly, you thought. Why would he listen? Except he set aside his book, turned in his chair to you, and listened. He never interrupted, and only spoke when you were taking a moment to breathe through your tears.
He was there for you, and he would never try to upset you. He knows how scary these sorts of things can be. While he doesn’t struggle with the same issues, having depressive episodes are not lost on him. He would gladly welcome you into his arms for a hug, and make sure you’re at least safe in these awful times.
Asmodeus
You and Asmo were at the club when it happened. You’re dancing with each other one moment, and the next you’re on the floor convulsing. You were embarrassed once it was all over, but imagine how terrified Asmo was???
You come back to yourself still on the dirty floor of the club, but now people are surrounding you, all concerned. You see Asmodeus crying, not knowing what to do. He’s panicked, and he’s gently holding your hand, hoping you’re okay.
You two leave the club early, and in your guilt, explain to him what happened. Although you’re vague because you aren’t entirely sure of the details, he puts together enough to know it won’t be the last time that happens.
he clings to you afterwards, and doesn’t let go. Even if you involuntarily jerk and hit him by accident. He knows. He understands and he loves you, darling. You would never want to push him away, and he would never want you to go. Next time, he WILL do better for you.
Beelzebub
You two were playing sports together when he accidently tackled you too hard. You fell over and hit your head hard, causing you to fall into a shock-induced seizure.
He kneels there by your side crying. He knows what to do but every time he touches you, you jerk violently. As if you’re afraid of his touch, afraid of him making things worse. Still, he does his best to assist you, making sure you don’t swallow your tongue and that you don’t harm yourself any further.
Once it’s all over, he carries you to the benches and gives you food and water. He’s still crying a bit, not sure what he should do now. He probably calls Lucifer for help, and while waiting, just talks to you. Makes sure you’re still all there.
When he’s alone, he does a bit more research on seizures and comes across epilepsy. After going over what can cause the seizures, he’s riddled with even more guilt. You hit your head when he tackled you. He probably caused that seizure, didn’t he? From then on, he refuses to play sports with you. He could never forgive himself for putting you through that.
Belphegor
Of course it was a nap. What else would it be? You wake him up on accident when you kick your leg out too hard, knocking him off the bed. When he gets up to yell at you for doing that, he notices you aren’t really paying much attention to him. Instead you’re twitching your arms and legs, grunting and groaning at the pain in your limbs when you slap against the bedpost.
You’re blinking rapidly and your lips are moving, as if you’re trying to ask him for help. All that manages to come out is something similar to your lips smacking. Like Beel when he’s taste testing his dinner.
Once the seizure is over, Belphie is sitting you up slowly, petting your hand. He brings you into a hug as  you tremble in his arms, whispering that its okay and that he’s here now.
He’d never experienced something so... unsettling in his life. He wonders if humans do this sometimes. Sometimes after... traumatic experiences. He cringes at the thought. Could he have caused this unintentionally? He didn’t think that the one time he snapped, he would leave you with irreversible damage. He tries to be diligent in helping you from there on, doing his thorough research and making sure you are taken care of in all ways possible should these continue, or get worse. To him, it’s more than a reason to redeem himself, it’s just doing what’s right.

hello! I just wanted to ask, which do you think in the mdzs novel has the most questionable morality? like they have done more bad things but they still had kindness in them somehow (?)
oh!! this is a hard one for me anon! i’m always bad at ranking characters but i’ll do my best!  i’m not sure if you were hoping for like a quick answer or a long one but i’m gonna go with a long one bc that’s always fun and i’ll do a tldr if you don’t want to read through all that? yeah that seems like it’ll work because holy shit i didnt mean for it to get so long (and kind of away from the point of your ask too so sorry about that!)
okay! So, the three main contenders for morally dubious characters are, as far as I’ve seen, Xue Yang, Jin Guangyao, and Wei Wuxian. Not a big surprise, I’m sure. While they’re the more obvious options, they do have a lot of parallels and exhibit a lot of the themes and ideas that MXTX was getting at. I mean, I love looking at Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian as foils, and even other combinations of the three, so my answer will probably be heavy on the comparisons. I do think it’s worth touching on Jiang Cheng as well though. Also, I’ll try to stay as unbiased as I can because there’s a few characters on this list that I just don’t like … like at all.
Jiang Cheng tends to get brushed over a lot when it comes to some of the horrible things he’s done. From promising to protect Wei Wuxian from dogs only to immediately use them as a threat whenever he wants to to leading a siege on a group of people he knows are completely innocent of any crimes to torturing and killing people for thirteen years, he’s definitely not a good person. His concerns lie first and foremost with himself and his. That doesn’t seem like a horrible thing at first – he should owe his loyalty to himself, his family, and his sect – but it does mean that when the Xuanwu’s cave situation happened, his response was to get mad that Wei Wuxian helped Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji. (And that’s why Jiang Fengmian got mad at him!). Later on, when pressure comes from the sects regarding Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng chooses not to stand with him, which, while understandable, isn’t exactly a kind move to someone who called Jiang Cheng his family and was trying to repay the debt the two of them owed Wen Qing. There’s no denying that he does care about Wei Wuxian, but when forced to make hard choices, he picks what’s easiest for himself. In general, I’d say that his sense of morality is selfish and somewhat flighty, but not necessarily questionable, so I’ll move on!
For the usual suspects, I’ll start with Xue Yang because I’m just going to immediately eliminate him from the running. I’ve seen people interpret his character sympathetically or try to justify some of his actions or the way he turned out, but I honestly just can’t. While you could feel sympathetic towards him because of his childhood, we have Wei Wuxian as a direct contrast to Xue Yang, as well as, to a certain degree, Jin Guangyao. Both Xue Yang and Wei Wuxian were street kids who had a horrible time in their youth, but Wei Wuxian was able to leave that behind him. That’s a lot easier to do when you’ve been adopted into a major sect and afforded comforts above your station (and also have terrible coping mechanisms), but even Jin Guangyao’s revenge isn’t quite as wide-spread and malicious. I know it may seem a bit obvious, anon, but some people really do try and treat Xue Yang like he’s morally dubious which confuses me a lot because how?? Even if we do say that he has suitable cause, one of the messages of the novel is that your past experiences don’t justify your future actions, so even within the context of the novel – a novel which is concerned with highlighting the grey areas of morality – Xue Yang isn’t afforded any sympathy. So, there’s really no way to construe him in a positive light. His only moments of kindness come with his time spent in Yi City with Xiao Xingchen, where Xue Yang doesn’t change much – he may have cared for Xiao Xingchen, but Xue Yang still tortured him as he did so. I never quite read that arc as Xue Yang learning to care or being allowed to be kind again so I’d just say that he lacks both morals and kindness. On that basis we can boot him from this competition.
Jin Guangyao may have been one of the antagonists of the novel, but he wasn't a completely bad person or like The Worst. His main crimes involved getting revenge for slights against him or his mother – being from Nie Mingjue, Jin Guangshan, or any number of other cultivators. I think that, to an extent, his actions are justifiable. While you can contrast this to the way Wei Wuxian gets called a servant's son, they do differ in the fact that Wei Wuxian is afforded a higher level of protection due to him being favoured by Jiang Fengmian. Additionally, when Wei Wuxian does have his birth used against him, he's usually the person who acted out first anyway. Jin Guangyao was insulted for doing little more than exist and was never the person to act out first, yet still faced a near constant onslaught of insults. I'm not saying his actions were justified by any means, but the reasoning behind his actions is sound. The one thing I will note is that he doesn't let go of his grudges – even when everything is all done and dusted and he has everything that he could possibly want from life, he still holds onto that hatred. I remember seeing a post where someone mentioned that characters who were able to move on and change for the better were able to get their happy ending in MDZS, which isn't relevant here but definitely applies to Jin Guangyao when thinking about why he got the ending he did. I don't agree with the degree to which he enacted his revenge against certain characters and I loathe the whole Qin Su situation. I don't care how much he cries about it, he could've at least told her, but I mainly just pretend that part didn't exist. So, he has suitable cause for at least some of his actions, and his other victims can just be classified as necessary collateral rather than being intentional innocent targets, if that makes sense, but he's definitely vindictive and spiteful.
On the other hand, he did a lot of good, too. He's a side character for the most part so Jin Guangyao didn't get the most screen-time, but we do hear of some of the good things he's done. The main example would probably be the watchtowers. One of the interesting things about Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian is that while both of them are capable of kindness, the breadth and scope of Jin Guangyao's is much broader – the watchtowers are an idea that not only showcase how Jin Guangyao's upbringing allows him to see flaws in the cultivation world that the other privileged cultivators can't, but also show how he does care about the people. I've seen a few people try and play it as a spying technique but I don’t really believe that in the slightest. I mean, the point of the towers is to cover the areas where the sects aren't, so I have no idea what Jin Guangyao's people would even be spying on. Anyway, setting up those watchtowers really didn't benefit him any specific way – unless you consider him endearing himself to Lan Xichen and garnering a good reputation with the common folk something that outweighs the absolute nightmare it would have been to make the sects participate in the project to begin with. In a more specific case, Jin Ling's dog was given to him by Jin Guangyao. It's interesting that, despite Jin Ling spending the novel being trailed by Jiang Cheng, the gift that he obviously cares for deeply is from Jin Guangyao. In the Guanyin Temple scene I definitely got the sense that Jin Ling had loved and trusted Jin Guangyao before the truth came out so I'm firmly convinced that he would've been a wonderful and conscientious uncle to him and just generally good to the people who worked for him and/or the commoners.
Okay, now Wei Wuxian!! As far as I've seen, people are relatively good at staying true to his questionable sense of morality. Like with Jin Guangyao, we know that he can be vindictive and pretty excessive when it comes to getting his revenge, but I'm not going to deny that I was definitely rooting for him when he went after Wen Chao and his little gang. The main issue with Wei Wuxian is probably the demonic cultivation – the stigma against it tends to get reduced to it being bad for the user and their temperament etc. etc., but there's more to it than that. I'm no expert on Daoism by any means, but from my understanding desecration of corpses and disturbing the dead is a significant cultural taboo. This isn't just Wei Wuxian doing something no one else can do (though it certainly is true), it's also him doing something no one else should do. I've seen the massacre at Nightless City being added as another tally to his list of crimes, but I honestly think that that isn’t a crime worth adding – he needed to defend himself so he did, simple as that.
As I mentioned above, Wei Wuxian's kindness is a bit more specific – where Jin Guangyao cares for the people, Wei Wuxian cares for individuals. We see his kindness more clearly, be it because he's the main character or be it because actions are clearer and stronger when it's for a single person or a small group. It's a bit easier, in my opinion, to care about people when you don't have to live with them and face them every day, but Wei Wuxian does. Even though Wei Wuxian led a lot more comfortable life than Jin Guangyao, we never really see Jin Guangyao get his hands dirty in the same way Wei Wuxian does. When a sacrifice needs to be made, Wei Wuxian’s the one who makes it. He doesn't relegate, he does it himself. We know that he would do absolutely anything for those he cares about and that's why he's able to commit a lot of the atrocities he does.
When it comes to deciding between Jin Guangyao and Wei Wuxian for most questionable morality, I think we need to look at the reasons behind their actions. Wei Wuxian’s sense of morality is definitely nowhere near that of the Lans but he has always been driven by his sense of justice and his love for those around him. In that sense, I've always read him as having a flexible sense of morality rather than a questionable one. I'm not sure how much of it ties in with his sense of duty, but it's definitely a lot. Wei Wuxian is, and always will, fill the role that is required of him – be it the childish and sweet younger brother, the talented but flippant older brother, the monster that wins the war, or the fierce protector that gives his all, Wei Wuxian will twist himself into whatever position he's needed in at that moment. Obviously, he went after Wen Chao for his own benefit, and the corrupting influence of the resentful energy does need to be factored into this, but at his core, Wei Wuxian will always value his duty (to his sect, family, friends, and innocents) and doing what is right over anything else. He may have stumbled along the way, but he did manage to form his own path to uphold all the values that he wanted to. Jin Guangyao, on the other hand, is similar to Jiang Cheng in how he's driven by his own motivations for betterment and revenge, albeit with more grace and intelligence. Jin Guangyao may masquerade as being motivated by any number of causes but he will never do anything at his own risk, and he will always be his top priority. So, while it's a close call between Wei Wuxian and Jin Guangyao, I'm going to have to go with Jin Guangyao on this one!
tldr; the fandom favourites for questionable morality are xy, jgy, and wwx so i mainly looked at them. I included jc as well but neither xy or jc demonstrate the dichotomy needed so they got eliminated from the running. Jgy and wwx both commit and are willing to commit horrible crimes as well as being capable of caring for others and being kind. but, where wwx is driven by his sense of justice and love for others, jgy is driven by his own motivations for betterment and revenge, making for a more questionable morality (as compared to wwx's more flexible morality).

Tumblr media
This couldn’t be happening. A killing game?! Who could you even trust?! Before Monokuma had announced himself as well as the killing game, you had gotten to know the people there with you on the island, but now.... you really didn’t know who to trust.
You sat alone in your cabin, door and windows locked. You’d rather stay in there for all eternity than risk getting killed. You screamed, you couldn’t help it, when you heard a knock on your door. Someone was trying to kill you!
Well... if they were... you doubted they would knock. They probably would just break the door down...
Unless they were trying to lure you into a false sense of security!
“W-Who is it?” You whimpered barely loud enough for them to hear.
“It’s Nagito.” Ah, Nagito. The one person you still sorta trusted. He was.... weird, yes. But he also made it clear when Monokuma announced the game that he’d gladly die for hope...
But he never said he’d kill.
You slowly got up and opened the door just a crack, peeking through and seeing him alone. You sighed in relief and opened it all the way, gesturing for him to come in.
“Sorry for screaming. You just scared me is all.”
“It’s alright,” he smiled, “am I ok to close the door? If you’re not comfortable with that we can leave it open.” You nodded, walking over and shutting the door and locking it.
“I trust you, Nagito. Just... not anyone else.”
“Not even Sonia? I don’t think she could hurt a fly....”
“Not even Sonia,” you shook your head, “she’s sweet. It’s always the sweet ones that you don’t expect.” You tried to joke, but Nagito’s expression never faltered. He looked at you with concern and pity, making a knot form in your throat.
If he kept giving you that look.... you might just tell him how you feel.
Not just about the killing game scaring you. You definitely had a crush on him. Maybe that’s another reason why you trusted him.... simp.
“As much as I value humor in helping people keep their hopes up,” he sat down on your bed, gesturing for you to follow, “I don’t think it’s the best way for you to cope right now. We’re all scared, Y/N.... but I’m particularly worried about you.”
“M-Me?” You sat down next to him, trying to avoid contact, both with your eyes and physically. If you looked into his eyes you’d probably break down into tears, and if you brushed up against him you’d be too flustered to talk.
“Yes... I know it’s selfish of me to take it upon myself to help you.... but I notice how you seem to gravitate towards me and trust me. And who am I to not do anything I can to please an Ultimate? So can trash such as myself even do anything to help you?”
“You can stop degrading yourself, for starters.” You frowned. You really didn’t like his comments on himself, but this was a great way to shift the topic away from yourself.
“My apologies, Y/N. What can I do to help?” Dangit. He brought it back to you. You were hoping you’d have to convince him he’s not trash, waste time and hope he forgot about comforting you. But he was determined, and he knew what you were trying to do.
“I-I dunno,” your voice cracked, “I-I’m really ok, don’t worry-“
“Can I hug you?”
“H-Huh?!” His surprise request caught you completely off guard, making you look up at him. And that was his intention. You finally made eye contact with him, your mind and soul shattering into pieces.
As tears threatened to fall and as you started choking on your words due to the ever growing lump in your throat, Nagito swiftly grabbed your shoulders and wrapped his arms around you.
He had no need for self depreciation right now. He felt that he had no right to even breathe in your direction, let along hug you, but he overrides those thought by telling himself that this is to please you, not him.
That was the last straw for you. A loud cry erupted from your throat as tears started to flow, hugging him back and desperately clutching the back of his jacket. He gently rocked you back and forth, rubbing your back and whispering into your ear.
“It’s going to be alright, Y/N. I know you’re scared. We all are.... but I’m going to make sure nothing bad happens to you. I’ll keep you safe, ok?” You simply nodded as a response, still crying as hard. How could he protect you if he had clearly said he was ok to die for hope? Which statement was a lie at this point?
“B-But,” you eventually whimpered, “h-how can you do that if you’re dead?!”
“I’m... I’m not going to die. I’m going to stay alive. For you, my hope.” You shuddered at the nickname, butterflies admittedly forming in your stomach. You simply nodded once again, pulling him closer and burying your face in his neck as the last few sobs escaped your body.
Your tears eventually subsided, leaving you exhausted. You hadn’t cried that hard in so long, you forgot how tiring it was. Your body felt weak, threatening to go limp at any moment.
“N-Nagito,” you lifted your head slightly so he could hear, “I-I might... I might....”
“It’s alright,” he pet your hair (if you don’t have hair or if it’s not very long, imagine him just rubbing your arm), gently massaging your scalp, “sleep, Angel. I’ll still be here in the morning, if you’re ok with me staying.”
“Y-Yes please,” you nodded, curling up against him, “And please... call me that more often...” you mumbled without really thinking, earning a soft chuckle from him.
“Of course, Angel. Now rest. I’ll protect you tonight.” He picked you up and settled onto the bed better, pulling the covers over you as he cradled you to sleep.
———
You opened your eyes and looked around, an unfamiliar warmth surrounding you. This didn’t feel like a blanket.
You rolled over only to find yourself face to face with an asleep Nagito. You bit your lip to stop yourself from screaming and waking him up. He looked so... peaceful like that. But... why was he here?
Oh.... right. You had a bit of a mental breakdown last night. And he helped you through it, like the kind soul he was. You wanted to repay him for the love he had shown you.
You were trying to think of what you could do, when he stirred and groaned, stretching and opening his eyes. He gave you a sleepy smile when he saw you were awake.
“Good morning, Angel. Did you sleep ok?” Your heart fluttered once again at his nickname. You had forgotten that you asked him to call you that more.
“I-I slept fine, thank you,” your eyes darted around the room, looking at anything but him and his... beautiful face, “um... you didn’t have to stay here all night. I’m sorry you had to sleep in the bed with me...”
“It’s perfectly alright, dear. This may be selfish of me, but I did rather enjoy sleeping here. It... it felt nice to hold someone.” You noticed a small blush form on his cheeks, making you wonder if he felt the same about you as you did him.
“It... felt nice to be held,” you smiled, “I can’t thank you enough, Nagito. Seriously.” He chuckled, leaning forward and resting his forehead against yours.
“Thank you’s are not necessary. Getting to exist in your presence so intimately like this is thanks enough,” he hesitantly reached up, his slim and slightly chilled fingers cupping your cheek, “I understand how afraid you are, love. But... As I said last night: I am going to protect you. I’ll stick by your side and I’ll do everything I humanly can and more to get us out of here together.”
“Yeah,” you nodded, leaning into his touch, “together. You better stick to that.”
“I wouldn’t ever think of failing a promise to an ultimate such as yourself,” he rubbed your cheek with his thumb, “especially you. Specifically you.”
“Why me?”
“Because you’re special to me, S/O,” he looked away, suddenly shy, “it’s one of the reasons I came to comfort you last night. Because I... care... about you.”
That was enough of a confession for you. He liked you back. You nodded, leaning in and connecting your lips for only a moment. He stared at you in shock, making you smile.
“Now you seriously better not die, ok?”

Voyager. Now that’s a kettle of fish. Obviously watch/enjoy whatever you wish, but I do recommend also checking out SFDebris’ reviews of the episodes (he’s the rwde of Voyager). He is a lot smarter and more eloquent than me.
Tumblr media
Putting these two asks together since my thoughts on both are all jumbled!
Now, I want to emphasize that I’ve only watched the first 16 episodes (Season One + Season 2 premiere), so idk if Voyager is going to go seriously downhill later on, but right now I do really like it. And not in a, “Lol yeah compared to the other crap on it’s good, I guess” way, but in a completely honest, “It has its flaws, but is overall a solid, compelling show with lovable characters” way. Out of curiosity I watched SFDebris’ review of “Phage,” though I’m afraid I didn’t agree with it. The only part were I was like, “Yeah okay” was pointing out that they had the Doctor using a keypad when he supposedly wasn’t solid, but that’s precisely the sort of continuity error that, in an otherwise strong show, I’m willing to shrug off. For all the major points, it sounds like SFDebris is concerned primarily with the show he wants Voyager to be, rather than the show Voyager actually is. Which I know sounds familiar--I’ve heard that criticism leveled at my own work: “You just want RWBY to be a totally different show”--but the difference is that Voyager is a part of an established franchise, following three other TV shows, an animated series, and a collection of films. It’s not an original show (like RWBY) that can take itself in any direction the story may need/claim to want (again, RWBY). It has a brand and those established characteristics seem to be bumping up against SFDebris’ critiques:
Hating Neelix as a character - You’re supposed to hate him. Or at least find him frustrating (I don’t personally hate him) because that’s what all the characters are grappling with too. From Tuvok forced to have an awkward conversation while Neelix is in the bath to Janeway dealing with him taking over her dining room, Neelix’s conflict revolves around how others learn to accept him. Star Trek as a franchise is about “Infinite diversity in infinite combinations.” Voyager begins with the problem of how the trained Federation officers are supposed to work with the more violent Maquis. Difference doesn’t just create “Wow, you’re so amazing!” reactions, it also includes frustration, disagreement, and outright hostility. Creating an outsider character with a kind heart but incredibly overbearing personality is a great way to test the other characters’ convictions. Do they actually care about all life in the universe? Or do they only care about life when they personally find it palatable? Having Neelix around is a great reminder for them--and the viewer--that just because someone annoys you at times doesn’t mean they’re any less worthy of love, respect, and companionship. It also doesn’t mean they don’t have something to offer: he keeps the crew fed even if his cooking is horrible, he provides information about this area of space even if he sometimes gets it wrong, we roll our eyes at the “Morale Officer” stuff, but Neelix does provide much needed perspective for characters like Tuvok. If Neelix made fewer mistakes, stopped bugging the crew, became a “cooler” character for the audience to root for rather than be frustrated by... a lot of the point of his character would be lost.
Frustration about discoveries not carrying over to the next episode - AKA, the crew finds inanely powerful, alien tech and then (presumably) never uses it again. This would indeed be a big problem in a serialized story (like RWBY) but Voyager maintains much of Star Trek’s original, episodic nature. Though we have continuity in the form of them inching towards home and evolving as characters, the world still resets to a certain point at the end of each episode. This is what allows Star Trek to explore so many different questions and have so many different adventures. If you demand that serialized continuity--this character needs to have an arc to deal with this traumatic experience, the crew has to follow the thread they just discovered, our Doctor needs to do something with the new tech they just found--then you lose the variety that Star Trek is known for. Instead of a new story each week (or, occasionally, across two weeks) you’ve got a single story spanning months. Neither form is better or worse than the other, it’s absolutely a preference, but there’s a very specific, structural, intentional reason why the characters “forget” about the things they’ve discovered and, at times, experienced. Unlike Ozpin forgetting that he has a nuke in his cane for seven volumes, or Ruby forgetting to use her eyes at crucial points, Star Trek deliberately sets things aside to ensure there’s room for new ideas and questions next episode.
Janeway doesn’t kill the Vidiians to get Neelix his lungs back - No Starfleet captain would. At least, not during this period of Star Trek. Sisko has development in that regard (making morally gray choices), but that’s built into the heart of the show from the start: he’s on a station, not a starship, that is jointly run by the Federation and the Bajorans, and built by the Cardassians. The rules of the Federation always had a tenuous hold there and Sisko as a character always pushed the boundary of the Federations expectations (Q: “Picard never hit me!”) Janeway, in contrast, is 100% a Federation captain and, more importantly, has explicitly told her crew that they will be operating as a Federation vessel, despite being so far from home. That’s the conflict between the officers and the Maquis. That’s why Tuvok accepts the alien tech in “Prime Factors,” recognizing that Janeway can’t. That’s why Seska is a compelling antagonist, pressuring the crew to abandon their ideals for survival. The series (or at least that first season) revolves around questions about identity and whether they’re willing to give that identity up now that they’re out from under the Federation’s thumb. Overwhelmingly, they choose not to... which would make murdering the Vidiian a complete 180 for her character. We’re not necessarily supposed to agree with Janeway’s choice, we’re supposed to acknowledge that murdering another sentient being is not some simple choice to make, especially when you’re a leader devoted to a certain set of ideals. We’re supposed to recognize the challenges here (many of which SFDebris doesn’t acknowledge) like how you’re supposed to keep a prisoner for the next 75 years when you’re already struggling to feed and take care of the crew you have, or the fact that they claim to take organs from dead bodies and this was a rare time when they couldn’t. (It’s only in “Faces” that we learn this is complete BS and they actively kidnap people to work as slaves and then be harvested.) The frustration that Janeway doesn’t act here stems from wanting her to be a character who is, fundamentally, not a Star Trek captain.
Granted, I only watched one review, but that’s what the whole thing felt like: wanting a series that’s not Star Trek. Something without a token, challenging character, without hand-wavy science, that’s more serialized, and doesn’t adhere to a “do no harm” code. (I just started “Initiations” and Chakotay asks a vessel to stand down three times, while actively being attacked, before finally retaliating and then he tries to reestablish communications and then he warns them about their engine and then he beams them aboard his shuttle. That’s what Star Trek (usually) is: that idealized love of life, even when that life is actively hostile). And like, that’s obviously fine! As you say, Flawartist, “watch/enjoy whatever you wish,” but just based on this one review I wonder if SFDebris just wants something other than Star Trek.
I think one of the reasons why I feel passionately about this (beyond my love of context and recognizing when shows are actively trying to accomplish something specific) is that I went through this with DS9. For years I heard about how horrible the show was. It’s trash. It’s a mess. It’s not TNG, so don’t even bother. Or, if you do, be prepared for disappointment. There was this whole, strong rhetoric about how silly it all is--Star Trek is, by default, silly, so supposedly only the Shakespeare loving, archeology obsessed captain is sophisticated enough to save it--and then... I found nothing of the sort. I mean yeah, obviously Star Trek is silly as hell (that’s part of its charm), but DS9 was also a complex, nuanced look into everything from personal agency to the threat of genocide. There’s so much wonderful storytelling there... little of which made it into my cultural understanding of DS9. And now I’m seeing the same thing with Voyager. When I did some quick googling I was bombarded by articles saying how bad it is and now I have an ask comparing it to a show I don’t think has even a quarter of the heart the Star Trek franchise does. Which is is not AT ALL meant as a knock against you, anon. I’m just fascinated by this cultural summary of Star Trek: TOS is ridiculous but fun if you’re willing to ignore large swaths of it, TNG is a masterpiece and that’s that, DS9 is bad, Voyager is bad, and to be frank I haven’t heard much of anything about Enterprise. It’s weird! Because I watch these shows and I’m like, “Holy shit there’s so much good storytelling here.” Is it perfect? Not on your life, but it’s trying in a way that I can really appreciate. It’s Star Trek and Star Trek (at least at the time) meant something pretty specific. Criticisms about divisive characters or idealized forgiveness feel like walking out of a Fast and Furious film and going, “There was too much driving and silly combat. Why didn’t they just fix the situation in this easy way?” Because then we wouldn’t have a film about lots of driving and silly combat! If you make all the characters palatable, make Janeway harder, extend the impact of all the discoveries, remove the ridiculous science that doesn’t make any sense... then you don’t have Star Trek anymore.
