to dream.....

Tonight is movie night. Every now and then, we do this. The choice for this one is " Man of La Mancha".

It's about a man that many thought was crazy. A man that went on epic adventures, if only in his own mind. A man who couldn't think straight, but knew his destiny was to be a knight. He fought for the honor of that. He was a dreamer.

It's about his squire. A man that was important, at least he thought so, when he was granted his knight. A man that knew his leader was touched, but cared not, because the gift of his new title meant he was finally "somebody", and he would follow this man thru any peril. Real or imagined.

It's about a beautiful woman who wants to not believe in the hero, but she is swept into his honorable confusion, because he believes in her and himself. And he is willing to fight for her.

But mainly, it is about the willingness to allow yourself to dream. To fight for your dreams. To protect your dreams. To see the world as it should be, a quest.

To dream, the impossible dream. Why not?

In most cases, "normal" people would say you are crazy. Why take a chance following a dream that may never come true? Why?

Because, it is your dream. You will never reach that unreachable star, if you keep your hands, and your dreams, in your pockets.

If, you want to be a dancer, turn the music on. A singer, sing. From out side, looking into your window, you look crazy because they can't hear your music or your song. It looks like you are just talking to yourself. But, you are not. And knowing this, makes you who you are.

I will always dream the impossible dream. My world will be better for this.

It is a good thing that the BG3 team is attentive and we get updates all the time, but where does it end? If they are going to continue changing stuff about the game per request, what will be there left of what they envisioned in the first place? Especially for character traits and dialogue, like making them kinder and more likeable, just because there were two more people asking for it and they happened to see it. I just don't want to see characters shift into generic ones just because of a need to respond to everyone's ideas

I got a magazine with an article title that reminded mom of "The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha and she started singing it. I'd forgotten all about that song for years.

the line that sticks in my head is "to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause"

and this resonates with what I've been looking at recently. how there are people who risk their freedom and safety for something worth fighting for-- when they could just as easily not put their lives on the line for others, for freedom, for truth.

yesterday read Ilya Yashin's uncompromising defense of his antiwar position -- not backing down even though he is in prison, trapped by the regime he is fighting.

and I'm reading a book about Howard Baskerville, who in 1908 fought alongside Constitutionalists in Persia, trying to defend its first democracy, and was killed in the process.

my story rn... a man goes willingly into slavery to take another's place-- and it is hellish. Right now he is going into the depths of its hell. without knowing if he'll ever make a difference for his sacrifice. These are the stories that I absorb, that i want to tell-- the things that inspire me-- in real life and in fiction (in fiction because it reflects real life -- the kind of life that matters, the meaning that I believe in-- there is some good in this world and it's worth fighting for against the horrors that try to crush it-- even if you don't win-- it's still worth it). I want to fight for a heavenly cause. I hope I'd be willing to go through hell for it and not just save my own skin when it comes down to it.
