greg ‘mouse’ gerwitz x fem!reader
a/n: HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎆
warnings: alcohol, kissing, fluff
Tumblr media
“You know what? I’m gonna do it.” You say confidently as you throw back another shot.
“Oh, Y/N, that’s not what I-” Erin begins but stops as she sees you’ve already walked away.
“Too late. It’s time to let her go.” Adam says half teasing half seriously.
“They grow up so fast don’t they?” Alvin adds pretending to wipe a tear from under his eye.
The group of colleagues from Chicago PD’s intelligence unit sat back and watched as their shy, introverted, and currently drunk intern walked up to their tech guy.
“$20 she chickens out.” Adam spoke up again as they all wait in anticipation for what’s about to happen.
“$50 she doesn’t.” Kim says with faith.
Running a hand through your hair as you approach your long time office crush, you notice the all too familiar nervous feeling enter your stomach. Not today. Quickly grabbing another shot from a random person at the bar, the burn that rolls down your throat was exactly what you needed. Taking another breath you continue on your original path.
“Mouse,” you say catching both his and Detective Halstead’s attention once you approach them at the bar.
“Y/N, hi-” he says before being quickly interrupted with your lips on his.
After a few seconds without him kissing you back, you pull away.
Pressing a few fingers against your lips as you cannot believe what you’ve just done, you look at Mouse’s shocked expression with blushing cheeks and wide eyes.
“I-I’m sorry. That was a mistake. I- um. excuse me.” You say embarrassed as ever and walking away.
“Y/N, wait.” He says grabbing your arm opting for you turn around.
“No, I get it. Can we just pretend this never happened?” You ask overwhelmed with regret.
Cupping your face with both of his hands, Mouse places one of the most delicate pecks on your lips only parting slightly before you pull him in again, this time more aggressive.
Finally pulling away when someone clears their throat, you touch your lips again but this time with lust.
“Do you want to get out of here?” He asks with his hands still on your face.
“You read my mind.”
*Everyone’s reactions*
Erin: “Well, that turned out better than I expected.”
Adam: “I feel like I’m witnessing something I shouldn’t, but I can’t tear my eyes away.”
Kim: *clears throat*, “$50 please.”
Jay: “Atta boy.”

King of my Heart - Jay Halstead
Request: Hi! Can i request King Of My Heart with Jay Halstead?❤️
A/N: I just really like the idea of Jay with like a firefighter s/o. I think I've written like two other fics with him and a firefighter s/o, pretend they're all interconnected lol.
TS Anthology Series | One Chicago Masterlist
...is this the end of all the endings?...
Dating with your schedule was not easy. Finding time to actually connect with people outside of work was next to impossible, especially since you’d taken on some paramedicine shifts for Sylvie on your days off from the Firehouse.
While you were trying not to rush into things or make any assumptions about whether dating was the correct term, you’d been spending a lot of time with Jay in recent weeks. You’d volunteered to help at a city garden that Trudy helped organize and he’d been there too and you’d both sort of clicked (at least that’s how you described it to Stella later on because you were too hesitant to admit that Jay had pretty much stuck to your side that whole day and asked you for drinks immediately after).
“I just don’t wanna like...move too fast.” You explained, pulling your shirt over your head and fixing your hair, “like, okay...what if it’s just supposed to be like a casual thing and I make it this big thing in my head that it isn’t? Then I feel stupid and I can never show my face when he’s around.”
“Listen, if it’s casual, he’s the one who should feel stupid. You’re a total catch,” Stella replied, always ready to be your cheerleader when you were feeling insecure about something. “You are a total badass, you’re on Squad. You don’t need some guy and he’s lucky you’re giving him the time of day.”
“I wouldn’t go that far.”
“I would!” Stella insisted, “you don’t need him, don’t feel like you need validation or something.”
“I don’t. I’ll admit I’m okay single but, it is kinda nice having someone...I don’t know, want to put in the effort after a long shift. I mean, it’s not like we have easy jobs.” You replied, grabbing your duffel from the bench and slinging it over your shoulder. “I guess I just want some clarification. Are we dating? Is he thinking this could be something more serious? Is he even looking for something more serious?”
“Are you?” She deadpanned as you both made your way out of the locker room. Most of the other third shift had left already but Stella had hung back with you while you showered, mostly to listen to you have a mini-crisis over your budding relationship with Jay.
“I feel like I could be.” You shrugged, “that sounds stupid but like, sometimes I just look at him and think like, yeah I could do this every day of my life. That’s really fucking scary Stella...like...”
You trailed off as you made it out onto the driveway and saw Jay’s pickup parked out front. He was standing there on the passenger side, leaning against the truck and when he saw you he smiled. Stella nudged your ribs playfully before giving you a silent wave goodbye and heading to her car.
“Hey,” you called out as you got closer, “don’t you have work?”
“Caught a double yesterday, just got off like an hour ago.” Jay replied, “Figured if you don’t have plans this morning you might wanna get breakfast?”
“Oh my god yes, I’m starving,” you said, letting Jay take the bag off your shoulder and toss it in the back of his truck. “Herrmann has a new candidate and he offered to make dinner last night-” you shuddered and Jay laughed.
“That bad?”
“Terrible! And we ended up getting a call anyway so basically...no dinner.”
Jay shot you a sympathetic look over middle console, “Shit baby, I’m sorry.”
You felt yourself warm up at the sound of him calling you baby. You weren’t much for pet names but somehow hearing the word out of Jay’s mouth squashed all the worries you’d been keeping close to your chest.
“Jay!” You whispered, trying not to laugh and draw anyone’s attention, though most everyone in the house was asleep at this hour. Aside from Herrmann who had gotten stuck on night shift and was currently trying to keep his eyes open to reruns of Lets Make a Deal in the common room. He had ears like a hawk though and you knew he’d come snooping if he heard commotion. “We’re gonna get in trouble.”
Jay smiled against your neck, placing another kiss there before responding, “I don’t work here so technically...”
“Well don’t get me in trouble then!” You replied, unable to stop a laugh from escaping this time as you bumped into the washing machine.
It was nearly one in the morning when Jay had shown up at the firehouse, texting you and telling you to let him in the back door. He’d just gotten off work and you still had six more hours on shift but it was officially your six month anniversary and he was surprisingly sentimental. Although you weren’t sure that making out in the laundry room like two horny teenagers was exactly sentimental.
You didn’t get much time to consider anything at all because the siren went off, the overhead voice alerting the firehouse, “Truck 81, Engine 51, Squad 3, Ambulance 61.”
“I have to go,” you insisted, pulling away, “Jay, I have to go.”
“I know, I know.” He let go of you, stepping away so you could head out to the apparatus. He followed behind you, careful to stay out of the way, stopping at the Squad table.
“I knew I heard something!” Herrmann laughed, walking through the double doors with Ritter, “Sneaking around the firehouse like a couple a kids!”
You did your best to ignore Herrmann as you geared up, stealing one more kiss from Jay, “I’ll see you after shift?”
“Yeah, I’ll pick you up.”
“Get in the rig lovebird!” Tony called out the window and you rolled your eyes before climbing up into the back with him and Capp.
You couldn’t resist a last glance out the window as you pulled out into the street, Jay standing there with his hands in his pockets, watching you and grinning. By the time you got to the fire, you’d be clear headed and ready to work but until then, you’d let yourself be a little lovestruck.

MINI SERIES MASTERLIST || JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
Part 2
Tumblr media
You pulled your jacket tighter around you, ducking into the apartment building quickly to get out of the wind. Winters in Chicago were seriously brutal.
As you turned to close the door behind you, the door was stopped with a forceful bang as someone put his hand against the glass to stop it, the sound making you jump.
You exhaled, blinking back at the person.
He had a black cap on, almost covering his eyes, his scarf was pulled up almost to his nose, and his other hand was jammed tight into his pocket.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you. Cold night, didn’t wanna have to dig around for my keys.” His voice was smooth and clipped.
You didn’t say anything, just gave a small polite smile before you headed back up. By the time you crossed the threshold into Jay’s apartment, the encounter had already been forgotten, your eyes falling on the pizza boxes on the table.
“Finally. I’m starving.” Jay complained, his head already leaning on the back of his couch as he angled his head to look at you.
You rolled your eyes at him. “Sorry, the meeting took a lot longer than I expected.”
Jay just pulled himself off the couch and headed towards the table.
“I was supposed to pay for dinner.” You told him, glancing up to look straight at him.
Jay rolled his eyes. “Just shut up and eat.” He answered, grabbing a slice of pizza and taking a bite off it.
You’d been crashing at Jay’s apartment for a while, partly because he had a spare room and partly because he’d found out about the problem with your previous apartment and had bullied you into staying.
But you also knew the real reason why you’d been hesitant to move in.
Maybe things would have been much easier if you weren’t in love with your best friend. But it wasn’t like you had much of a choice in the matter. You’d almost called Will instead, since you'd known the brothers forever, but you felt like you’d be encroaching too much on Will’s space considering he only had the one bedroom he slept in.
So you found yourself here, sitting across from Jay, munching on pizza that he hadn’t even let you pay for considering you were freeloading at his house.
“What?”Jay asked, his eyes narrowing at you.
You shrugged. “Thinking of a gift, plotting your murder, you’ll never know Halstead.”
Jay rolled his eyes and you laughed, hiding everything else behind it. Just another normal night with your best friend.
Tumblr media
You woke up the next morning with a pounding headache.
Your first instinct was to blame Jay for the extra bottle of beer he’d handed to you the previous night, but when you sat up and swung your legs off the bed, logic found its way to you and you knew two bottles of beer would definitely not give you a hangover.
Trying to ignore the pounding, you got up to go to the kitchen for a glass of water.
The house was quiet, which meant Jay had already left, so you pulled open the drawer, grimacing when you realized you’d forgotten to refill the aspirin.
With a sigh, you closed the drawer again. The pounding had somewhat subsided but not totally. You were glad that at least you didn’t have any meetings today. Today was supposed to be writing day which worked out because you could take things at your own pace.
Throwing on some clothes that were a bit more decent, you headed for the door, locking Jay’s door behind you before you froze.
“Jay?”
Jay was standing about two doors down, next to Kevin, looking into his neighbor's house with that expression you called his detective face. That’s when you saw the yellow crime scene tape right across the doorway and registered that Jay had his police vest on.
“Y/N, I didn’t think you were still…” Jay paused when he turned to look at you. “You okay?”
You shook your head. “Migraine, I think. But we’re out of aspirin. I’m just gonna…” You pointed.
Kevin gave Jay a nod and he stepped towards you. “Bad?” He put his hand on your forehead gently and you were acutely aware that Kevin was watching.
“No fever. Do you want me to make the run?” Jay asked, keeping his voice low.
“Detective Halstead, focus.” You teased gently, trying to hide the fact that your heartbeat had picked up. “What are you doing here? Everything okay?”
Jay glanced behind him. “Yeah, we need to interview everyone on the floor anyway so why don’t you go back in and I’ll be in shortly.”
“Can you interview me?” You asked, an eyebrow raising.
Jay let out a short laugh. “You’re a witness, Y/N. Not a suspect. Get back in there, and lie down. I’ll be right there.”
You rolled your eyes at him for fussing over a migraine but you were also secretly glad you didn’t have to go all the way to the store.
By the time Jay came back into his apartment, you were sprawled on the couch and definitely in need of that aspirin.
You heard Jay bustle into his own kitchen before he pressed the pill in one hand and then handed you the glass of water.
You felt the liquid trickle down your throat, bringing the aspirin tablet with it, before you glanced back up at him.
Jay frowned. “You didn’t have that much to drink last night. Should I be worried?”
You would have rolled your eyes if not for the splitting headache.
“I’m fine.” You said, propping yourself upwards. “So what’s going on?”
Jay’s expression took a heavier look now as he sat himself on his coffee table so he was facing you directly.
“The house two doors down? Did you know her?”
You glanced up at him, your eyebrows bunching together in confusion. “The blonde girl?”
Jay nodded.
You raised an eyebrow now. “She’s your neighbor, Jay.” You paused but when he didn’t say anything you went on. “I met her a few times around... You know, like in the stairwell, or the lift, but we didn’t really talk or anything, I don’t even know her name. What’s going on?”
Jay gave an audible exhale and you knew him well enough to know what followed wasn’t going to be pretty.
“Someone called in a dead body.”
A silence followed his statement.
“No.” The word escaped your lips like a whisper. “And I assume it’s not natural?”
Jay gave you a sad look and shook his head. “Preliminarily? Definitely not.” He paused. “You know I can’t tell you more.”
You nodded, looking down.
“Did you see anything yesterday or recently that was out of the ordinary?” Jay asked, and you could even hear the conflict in his voice. Like he hoped you did so that he could crack the case, but he also hoped you didn’t so you wouldn’t be wrapped up in all this.
“Like I said, I don’t even know her name. Off the top of my head, I don’t think there was anything. I always saw her alone.” You answered. “Sorry.”
Jay shook his head. “You know, if you think of anything…”
You gave him a small teasing smile. “I’ll call, Detective. I already have your number.”
Jay rolled his eyes but glanced back down at you as he stood. “How’s the head?”
You nodded. “Better.”
Jay reached down to ruffle your hair in that annoying way he did even though he knew you hated it. “I’ll be late, obviously. I’ll call Will to check in on you.”
“Do not.” You warned, even though you knew it was useless.
Jay just smiled, waved, and headed out the door.
Tumblr media
Abbie Walker, 27.
The words stared back at Jay from where he sat at his desk. Jay hadn’t known her personally, he hadn’t even known her name and the only interaction they had had was probably polite smiles and nods as a form of greeting, but this still felt like it hit a little too close to home. Literally.
It was only as Adam walked into the bullpen that Jay tore his eyes away from the photo they’d put on the board.
“Medical Examiner’s report. They count twelve stab wounds.” Adam said, with a grim look on his face, handing Jay the report.
Jay frowned. “That much overkill?”
Jay’s eyes raked over the report quickly before he handed it back to Voight for him to take a look.
Before Voight could say anything, Kim jogged up the stairs. “Jay, you need to take a look at this.” She said, her voice was slightly urgent as she headed straight for her desk and pushed the USB drive she had into her computer.
“We got the traffic pod that has a view of the front of your building.” Kim said, pulling the slider across the video to the part she wanted to show Jay.
“We cleared almost everyone who came in within three hours before and after Abbie’s estimated time of death. Except two people. One is a guy who delivered flowers, Kevin’s on that. The other person is this guy.”
Jay squinted, leaning forward to take a closer look.
“Wait stop.” Jay said, as there was a ringing in his ears.
Kim nodded, pulling the video backwards again. “This is why I wanted to show you. That’s Y/N, isn’t it? Heading in right before him?”
“Damn it.” Jay muttered, his eyes registering the timestamp on the video as Kim pressed play again and he watched the tape of you heading in, and the guy behind you reaching out to hold the door to make sure it didn’t close before he slipped in.
Hailey shook her head. “Jay, maybe she didn’t…”
Jay let out a sigh. “With our luck?” He glanced at Voight.
Voight nodded. “Kim, Jay, go.”
While the rest spread out to follow on the other evidence they had on hand, Kim nodded, following Jay to his truck as he sped off back towards home, where he knew you would be.
Tumblr media
You’d barely settled at the table and opened your laptop when the door opened.
You glanced up with somewhat of an exasperated look on your face, expecting to see the redhead Halstead standing there. Instead, you frowned in confusion.
“Jay? What are you doing…” Your voice trailed off as you noticed Kim right behind him.
“Hey, Y/N.” Kim called.
You smiled back at Kim, giving her a small wave, although your frown deepened when you glanced back at Jay.
“What’s going on?” You asked.
Jay glanced at you as he and Kim sat in chairs facing you. “You were home late last night, did you see anyone?”
You shook your head before you paused.
“What is it?” Jay prompted, noticing the change in your demeanor immediately.
Kim sat up a little straighter and you looked at her before you glanced back at Jay. “There was this guy… Uh… I remember because he gave me a shock.”
Jay’s frown deepened.
You shook your head, reading Jay’s expression immediately. “No, he just stopped me from closing the door. The sound gave me a shock. He said… he said it was too cold and that I was saving him the trouble of digging for his keys.”
Jay glanced at Kim.
“What’s…” Your voice trailed off because you’d already reached the conclusion. “Oh my god… no…”
Kim nodded at Jay. “I’ll call Hailey.”
As Kim excused herself, Jay got up, rounding around the table to squat in front of you. “You couldn’t have known, alright? Did you see his face?”
You shook your head. “No, he had a… a scarf draped over the lower half of his face. It was cold, I didn’t think…”
Jay shook his head more vigorously this time, reaching for your hand and squeezing gently. “Don’t do that.”
You glanced up, belatedly realizing how close Jay really was to you, the air feeling like it was sucked out from the room.
Jay blinked back at you before he lifted his hand from yours quickly. Before the awkward tension could fully permeate the room, Kim walked back in. “Jay, we gotta…”
Jay cleared his throat, pulling backwards as he nodded at Kim.
“You going to be okay?” He asked, with a final look back at you.
You smiled and nodded. “Go save the city.”
You watched Jay and Kim walk out, the front door clicking shut behind them, before you turned back towards your computer.
You were going to work and you were not going to think anymore about what had happened next door, you told yourself even as another ‘what if’ floated through your mind.
Tumblr media
Jay didn’t come back that night, even though he’d called to check in on you and offer to have Will come over. You’d rolled your eyes over the phone and promised him that you’d latch the door so well that even if he did come home, he’d have to sleep on the corridor outside.
Even so, you knew Jay was behind it when Will called you all of ten minutes later to offer to bring food over. You relented with a “Fine, you worried I’m going to forget your stupid face?”
So Will had come over with food, which actually saved you a trip and you’d spent the night catching up with him, rolling your eyes as he gently teased you about how you only wanted to hang out with Jay.
But you were grateful that at least Will’s presence had taken your mind off a lot of other things.
By the next day, you were pretty much back to yourself. Jay had always been a little protective of you, even from the time you guys had been in school, and he was probably feeling a bit of heat from the case being a little too close to home. So you told yourself that you’d humor him, and that the Halsteads were just being… the Halsteads.
You’d gone about the day like any normal day but reminded yourself not to stay out too late, just going out for a short meeting with one of your publishers before you came home, or rather Jay’s apartment.
You smiled a little to yourself, realizing how the word ‘home’ resonated in your mind along with Jay, although it came with the bittersweet taste of the feelings you’d kept buried in your heart for so many years.
Your thoughts were interrupted as you heard a knock at the door.
You headed towards the door, wondering if it was Will again, and telling yourself if it was Jay, you were going to remind him that this was his apartment and that he didn’t need to go out of his way to make you comfortable.
But when you opened the door, it was neither Halstead.
The guy standing at Jay’s door was dressed in a CPD jacket, the kind that patrol put on sometimes, along with a police cap that was sitting snugly on his head.
You frowned a little, glancing to the side for sight of a non-existent partner.
“I’m from CPD, we have some follow up questions about the murder down the hall. Do you mind if I come in?”
You felt your eyebrows unconsciously bunch together. Even if Jay couldn’t come himself for any reason, there was no way that he would send anyone other than Intelligence members in his place. And the fact that this officer was alone here was way too suspicious as well.
Your eyes flicked to where the officer’s hand was resting on Jay’s door.
You weren’t sure what would happen if you tried to forcefully close the door right now. If he pushed back, he’d overpower you easily.
You bit the inside of your cheek. As you stood there, trying to calculate all the possibilities in your head to decide what was the next thing you were supposed to do, he took another step forward closer to you, essentially forcing you to step backwards instinctively, his hand pushing the door open just a little wider.

A living Nightmare
Tumblr media
Summary: y/n went to the police station after being assaulted by a stranger and detective Jay Halstead is the one that helps her
Warnings: angst, mention of sex assault, mention of rape, kidnap and violence in general
English is not my first language, sorry if there’s some mistake!
Next part
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
When you entered the police department, you felt many eyes on you. You wore clothes that were cut and dirty and you looked hurt.
You looked up at one of the police officer, a woman who was behind the desk. You guessed was a sergeant and she was around fifty years old; she immediately went around the desk to help you.
“Oh my God, what happened dear?” She immediately asked you, helping you staying on your feet; you were so weak and you were about to cry sooner or later, even if you were trying to resist. She helped you and took you in one of the interrogatory rooms, telling you that she would have called a detective to help you.
After some minutes a tall guy entered the room and he immediately sat in front of you with a warm smile on his face, trying to reassure you in some way.
“I’m Detective Jay Halstead. They’ve told me that you need me. What’s your name? Can you tell me what happened to you?”
You could still feel those hands on you, you could feel the pain and every single beg you yelled, asking him to let you go, asking the guy who took you to have mercy.
You were shaking but you couldn’t control it.
“I’m y/n… a-and I…. I was kidnapped.” You whispered, deciding to start from the easiest part of the story.
“When?” He immediately asked you, writing something on a notebook. “Where and how? I need some details to find the guy who did this to you. Tell me everything you remember and we’ll find him, okay?”
You nodded, still shaking and starting to cry.
“It was Friday when he took me… i-i don’t…. I d-don’t know what day is it today…. I was kidnapped Friday evening after work… i-i stopped to a fuel station and… and when i was entering the car again i felt a hand on my mouth and something cold against my throat.” You whispered.
He listened carefully and he wrote everything on the paper, looking sometimes at you and smiling a little bit to encourage you to continue.
“He had a knife and… he told me to get into his car and… and to be quiet or… or he would have cut my throat in an half. “
“Did you see him in the face?” Detective Halstead asked you, looking at you. “Do you remember anything that can help us finding him?”
You shook your head, crying harder.
“N-no!” You sobbed, feeling guilty. “I just did what he told me to do… he… he said that i wanted this… that i should have expected this… and after that he blindfolded me”
Jay’s eyebrows frowned.
“What did he mean by that? Did something strange happen to you the days before Friday?”
You nod, crying. “Y-Yes.” You sob.
It was all your fault.
You should have known
You should’ve have done something
You should have gone to the police station sooner
“Tell me about that.” He said, looking at you. “And don’t worry, you can take your time.”
You nodded, staying silent for a while before answering him.
“I had the feeling of being followed for almost a week but i thought i was just paranoid. And than i found some flowers at my front door… I thought it was just some pranks of some kids… i didn’t think…. It’s all my fault” you cried.
“No, no no” he reassured you, taking one of your hands and squeezing it slightly. “It’s not your fault at all… but everything you will tell me will help us getting him in jail, okay? I know it’s hard but you have to be strong for that”
You perfectly knew that. You knew that you needed to tell everything but it was so fucking difficult. Everything that happened to you, everything that he did to you. And you didn’t fought back, you just let that happen.
“After the flowers i got a call from an unknown number… it was Friday’s morning and all i could have heard was someone breathing heavily on the speaker. I was so scared and i immediately hanged up. I wanted to came here but i was late for work so… so i decided that i could come here on Saturday when i would have been at home and i would have had more time to come here…. But that night he took me. He kidnapped me and I didn’t do anything. I wasn’t able to see him nor the road he made to reach his place. It was dirty and the scent of that place was horrible… i think it was an abandoned warehouse. “
Detective Halstead was writing everything you were saying and he kept asking you questions, giving you also the time to prepare yourself psychologically.
“What happened then?”
“He tied me at something, I don’t know with what but i was lying down on some old mattress. He… he ripped my clothes…” you pointed him your clothes that were ripped and dirty. “He… he r-raped me”
It took some time to admit it.
It was so fucking difficult to say.
It was so fucking painful to admit.
You were raped.
You were raped.
You were raped
But why you? Why he took you? Why he let you go? But did he let you go? What happened? Why you were still alive? Why weren’t you dead?
Maybe it would have been easier if you would’ve died in there.
“I’m sorry for everything that had happened to you and believe me, I wouldn’t ask you so many questions if i don’t really think that they can help us finding him… can you tell me in details what he did to you? How many time did he rape you?”
You were trying to figure out how many days you spent in there but being blindfolded didn’t help and he didn’t even bring you some food to help you understand which part of the day it was. You couldn’t even tell what day it was when you escaped, you didn’t know anything, nor even where you were. You just entered the first police station you found, you didn’t even know in what part of the city you were.
“He raped me multiple times… i don’t know how many but he often raped me during those days. He bit my breasts and… and he used force. I was so scared and it hurt so much, i just wanted that to be finished. Every single time i stay silent praying him to finish with me as soon as he could.”
Detective Halstead wrote everything on his notebook and than he looked up at you.
“Did he use a condom ?”
You cried harder, hiding your face beneath your hands.
“N-no… he didn’t, he… never did” you sobbed, crying.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. You’re safe now” he said, getting up and walking towards you, slowly and calmly to be sure not to scare you.
You got goosebumps of fear but you didn’t stepped back. You were so tired: you just wanted to go home and sleep and after telling all of what happened to the detective you felt even more tired.
“Can you tell me everything you can remember about him? Maybe a description? I know you didn’t see him but you felt him, right?”
You immediately understood what he was talking about and you thought about every time you felt him, and you revived all again and again, trying to remember as many details as you could. “When he kidnapped me and i felt his hand on my mouth i also felt his chin against my head so he was definitely taller than me… i’m 170 cm so he would be around 190 cm i guess. He lowered at my height to be able to whisper in my hear and when he kissed me or bit me i felt that he had a beard… not a normal one, it was like a goatee… yes, I think he had a goatee.”
“You’re doing great, can you remember anything else?” Jay asked, writing everything down.
“I saw only his hand on my mouth… he was white. And i think it was thin but muscular, just not to much. He was strong though. T-That’s all i can remember.”
“It’s perfect, you did great.” He reassured you. “How did you escape?”
“I spent days trying to free myself from the rope that was keeping me tied up on the mattress and when he came today’s morning and when he said that i need to do a shower after i thought something was wrong. He didn’t even let me go to pee in the previous days. When I couldn’t hear his footsteps anymore i finally freed myself, i took the blindfold off and you just ran outside and ran… and ran. I didn’t looked back or near me, i just ran trying to add distance between me and him. I don’t know for how many time i ran, i just know that at some point i read “police” and i came immediately in here.”
Detective Halstead wrote everything again, then he looked up at you.
“You were so strong and brave, okay? And now you’re safe, i will be with you okay? But i need to accompany you to the hospital to do a rape test. It will help us knowing the DNA of the man that did all of this to you, okay?”
You immediately tried to got up to follow him at the hospital but the second you got on your feet you felt all the tiredness on you. You couldn’t even stand up.
All the adrenaline went down and you felt pain in every single muscle.
You collapsed on the floor and Detectjve Halstead immediately ran towards you, calling for help and for an ambulance.
“Hailey! Call for an ambulance right now!” He yelled towards the mirror, looking at you again and giving you a small slap on your cheeks to keep you awake. “It’s okay, it’s okay i’m here with you, y/n. Resist, an ambulance is in the way, okay? Just stay with me.”
“I-I’m so tired.” You said, whispering. You looked at the detective in front of you and you tried to remember his eyes; he came there to help you and you wanted to remember him at all costs because he was your savior, after all. You saw in him the chance to find some justice and in that moment he was also trying to keep you awake while the ambulance arrived.
“I know, i know you’re tired but you have to resist and keep your eyes open for me. Look at me okay? Resist.”
You tried.
You really tried to resist but it was too much.
You were too weak.
The last things you remembered before the dark fell upon you were Jay’s eyes, then everything went dark.
And you couldn’t feel anything anymore.

Welcome to Letters2fiction!
The concept here is to send in a question or a letter request, and you’ll get a response from your fictional character of choice, from the list below. Please stick to the list I’ve made, but of course, you can ask if there’s some other characters I write for, I don’t always remember all the shows, movies or books I’ve consumed over the years and I’m sure I’m missing a lot 😅

Expectantly looking at the two people before him, Sergeant Voight rests his eyes on his daughter.
Trying to analyze and prepare for the choice she makes he studies her face. He studies her brown eyes, long brown hair, her beautifully square jaw and soft features. He always admired his daughter, she was a carbon copy of his late wife Camille.
Stepping back to lightly sit on the edge of his desk, Voight clasps his hands together in his lap still waiting for an answer.
Lightly chuckling out of disbelief, Cassie looks over at Jay who was still harboring the same reaction.
"Well?" Her father finally asks.
"I-I don't know." The girl says shocked.
"Sarge, don't you think it might be a little too soon, considering..." Jay interjected with his arms crossed in front of him.
"Considering everything that happened a week ago?" Voight asks assuming the rest of the other man's sentence.
"Uh, yeah." Jay says frankly.
"Well also considering we've been down a detective in the unit for a week now, and Antonio hasn't had a partner, I think now is an appropriate time to fill that spot. Look, I'm not trying to replace Willhite. That's not what's happening. Willhite was an extraordinary detective and what happened was tragic. But I would be doing a dishonor to my unit if I leave an open spot. That means we have one less person on busts, we have one less person to help solve cases, and we have one less person putting bad guys behind bars. Now, I see someone that I trust and that I have faith in to live up to Willhite's reputation and thrive in this environment. So Cassie, what do you say?" Voight looks at his daughter again who looks even more intimidated than she was the first time he offered.
A million thoughts were running through Cassie's head, and yet she still couldn’t pick one and take the job. Being a paramedic gives her a rush, its fills a hole inside her that aches to help. But so did being a police officer at one point. Yeah she fell into a routine and couldn’t commit to being a patrolman, but this is a completely different field. This is becoming a detective.
Cassie had grown up around detectives her whole life. She knew the ins and outs of how they did their job, she understood the consequences of the hours and how some cases take a larger toll than others. But she also knew the effects of being too ‘in’ on the job. How easily it is to overwhelm yourself, and completely indulge in the rush that puts the bad people away. That’s what scared her. She knew her father wasn’t around a lot when she was growing up because of this job, so a piece of her does resent it. She resents the nights they would eat dinner without him, the Sunday’s he wasn’t at church. She resented the birthday parties and minor holidays he would miss, she resented it all. One of the main reasons she hasn’t made a choice yet is because one of her biggest fears is turning into her father. But also one of her biggest goals is to do that very thing.
“I say I need a little more time.” She finally admits.
“Okay. You have two days,” Voight says standing up and walking over to his chair.
“Okay? Thats it?” She asks confused.
“That’s it. You need time, I gave you time.” He said sitting down and opening a case file.
Cassie looked at Jay again who was biting the inside of his cheek.
Looking back at her father who isn’t paying any attention to the pair now she rubbed the back of her neck.
“I- um, yeah, okay. I’ll let you know.” She said turning to walking out the door but Jay was blocking it.
Staring into space and not noticing the girl trying to leave, Jay finally moved once she cleared her throat muttering a quick ‘excuse me.’
“What was that about?” Erin asked as the pair walked out of Voight’s office catching the rest of intelligence’s attention.
Cassie walked closer to the other girl before disclosing what just happened.
“He just offered me a job.” She said emotionlessly crossing her arms and staring daggers into Lindsay’s eyes. Cassie didn’t say it loud enough for the rest of the unit to hear, but by Erin’s reaction they knew it was big.
“Are you serious!?” Erin shouted catching everyone’s attention again making Cassie’s eyes grow wide.
“Shhh,” the girl said glancing around at their audience. “C’mon.” She finally said bowing her head and walking out of the office with Erin following her.
Once they stepped outside the district to catch some fresh air, Cassie broke. Full pacing, chewing her lips, and lightly pinching her bicep with her crossed arms.
“He offered me a job!” She finally shouted looking at her just as shocked sister. The only difference is, Lindsay doesn’t show it as obviously.
“What are you going to do?” Erin asked sitting down on the bench.
Stopping in her tracks Cassie turns to do the same. Now instead of pacing, her leg is restlessly bouncing against the bench seat, slightly annoying Erin.
“I don’t know. I just got my paramedic certification and I’ve been promoted to PIC. I absolutely adore my partner, Sylvie Brett. The environment has relaxed since Matt and Dad have worked out their issues, I just, I’m at a loss right now.” She said resting her elbows on her knees.
“Okay, so what are some pros and cons of becoming a detective right now.” Erin pressed now rubbing circles against the other girls back.
“Well, I’ve already been through the academy and worked the streets, so I’d just come directly upstairs if I transfer. I get to work closer with you, Dad, and Jay. The hours seem pretty shit though,”
“And 24-48 hour shifts are any better?” Erin asked chuckling.
“You’re right.” Cassie said quietly.
“But I won’t get to wear my 5.11’s anymore.” Cassie said sadly looking over at her sister.
“What is that?”
“The EMS pants.”
“And?”
“And they made my butt look good. Sue me.”
Bursting into a fit of laughter, the girls took a few minutes to recollect their thoughts and calm down. All of the previous worries leaving Cassie’s mind, all except for one.
“What if I don’t have what it takes?” Cassie asked sitting up straight and looking dead ahead of her.
“In what way?”
“What if I won’t be able to solve the crimes or actually put people away? What if I’m just the weak link that’s going to make the whole unit drown?” She asks quieter truly unsure.
“If you didn’t have what it takes, do you really think Hank would’ve offered you the job?” Erin asked.
“Out of pity? Probably.” Cassie said knowing it wasn’t true.
“No. If you didn’t have what it took to be a good cop, Hank would not put the whole unit in jeopardy just to make you feel better in some way. Especially not out of pity.” Erin said looking over at her sister who knows better.
“How am I supposed to just quit my other job? Just walk in and say, ‘Hey here’s my two week notice, but scratch that and make it my last shift notice because instead of being a paramedic I’m gonna be a detective in a special unit! Don’t hate me, I know it’s only my third time switching my whole career field but you know, yolo!’”
“Precisely.” Erin joked earning an eye roll from Cassie.
Exactly two days later on the dot, Cassie had a plan.
Walking into 51, Cassie went straight to Chief Boden’s office.
“Sir, can I speak with you?” She asked knocking on his slightly cracked door.
“Yeah, come on in.” He said waving her in and taking his glasses off.
“So what’s this about? You’re not on shift until tomorrow.” He said as he watched her get comfortable in the seat before him.
“I-uh,” Cassie chuckled a little as she tried to fan her face so tears won’t fall. Taking a deep breath before continuing she looked her Chief in the eye and flashed a sympathetic smile. Taking the resignation slip out of her coat pocket, she layed the document on his desk.
“Cassie,” He said almost breathlessly as he stared at the pink slip before him.
“If this is about what happened a few days ago, you can take a few shifts off. You know, decompress. Cope. You don’t have-”
“It’s not about that,” Cassie interrupted.
“It’s not about that situation, or you, or anyone else here at 51. You guys are my family and I will forever cherish the experiences and connections I’ve made here.” Taking a pause Cassie glanced down at her now bleeding cuticles as she was picking at them nervously.
“As you may know, I used to be a cop at the 31st district. I completed the academy, and I was a patrolman for two years. In the middle of that, I realized that, that uniform was not for me. I realized I had another calling, and that was to be a paramedic. Thats why for the last three years I’ve worked my ass off, pardon my language, to become an EMT then a Paramedic, and now a PIC. But after what happened, they let me in the room to help question Lullo. To help get the confession from him, and I did. And it was euphoric. To be the one to help put someone behind bars that deserved it, that was my calling. That was my original intention of becoming a cop, and that’s why, when I got the job offer to become a detective, to continue my law enforcement career, I knew I couldn’t pass it up. Becoming a paramedic has been the best thing in my life, and I will forever be indebted to you, and everyone else that helped that dream come true. But I know becoming a detective, and doing real work besides patrolling the streets, that’s my life’s purpose.” Cassie finally said wiping a few stray tears.
Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes for a moment, Boden didn’t know what to say.
“As much as I admire your adaptability, and your ability to find purpose in so many things in life, I’ve got to say I’m disappointed. I’m obviously sad to see you go, I truly thought you had a big future here, and being a paramedic in general. Because you’re good at it. You’ve got the guts and the leadership skills to take charge and be the person everyone else looks up too in this community, but I understand you have to follow your gut. I understand you have bigger things to accomplish in life. Cassie, you’re going to do amazing no matter where you work, no matter what you do. I will always be here for you if you need anything, but I want you to consider your decision one last time. Because once I file this paper, you will never be a paramedic again. Not unless you go through the courses and training again. Do you understand that?” He finally asks looking at the girl.
Taking a pause and truly thinking everything over again. Cassie reluctantly nods.
“I understand.” She says now earning a slow nod from the man.
“Then I wish you well. You’re going to do great things.” He finally says standing up at the same time as Cassie and giving her a brief hug.
“Cassie wait,” He calls out making her stop in her tracks, “have you told anyone?”
“No.”
“Do you want to? That way you can break the news?”
Taking a deep breath and thinking it over, Cassie knew she wouldn’t be able to go through with this if she did, so in the most selfish way possible, Cassie shook her head.
“No.” She said now walking out.
As Cassie walked out to her car she let her tears free fall and pulled out her phone.
Cassie:“I’m in.”
Dad: “I know. I’ll see you Monday.”

That’s the good thing about being scared. Sometimes it’s a reminder that you have to be brave, you have to fight.
