Expectantly looking at the two people before him, Sergeant Voight rests his eyes on his daughter.
Trying to analyze and prepare for the choice she makes he studies her face. He studies her brown eyes, long brown hair, her beautifully square jaw and soft features. He always admired his daughter, she was a carbon copy of his late wife Camille.
Stepping back to lightly sit on the edge of his desk, Voight clasps his hands together in his lap still waiting for an answer.
Lightly chuckling out of disbelief, Cassie looks over at Jay who was still harboring the same reaction.
"Well?" Her father finally asks.
"I-I don't know." The girl says shocked.
"Sarge, don't you think it might be a little too soon, considering..." Jay interjected with his arms crossed in front of him.
"Considering everything that happened a week ago?" Voight asks assuming the rest of the other man's sentence.
"Uh, yeah." Jay says frankly.
"Well also considering we've been down a detective in the unit for a week now, and Antonio hasn't had a partner, I think now is an appropriate time to fill that spot. Look, I'm not trying to replace Willhite. That's not what's happening. Willhite was an extraordinary detective and what happened was tragic. But I would be doing a dishonor to my unit if I leave an open spot. That means we have one less person on busts, we have one less person to help solve cases, and we have one less person putting bad guys behind bars. Now, I see someone that I trust and that I have faith in to live up to Willhite's reputation and thrive in this environment. So Cassie, what do you say?" Voight looks at his daughter again who looks even more intimidated than she was the first time he offered.
A million thoughts were running through Cassie's head, and yet she still couldn’t pick one and take the job. Being a paramedic gives her a rush, its fills a hole inside her that aches to help. But so did being a police officer at one point. Yeah she fell into a routine and couldn’t commit to being a patrolman, but this is a completely different field. This is becoming a detective.
Cassie had grown up around detectives her whole life. She knew the ins and outs of how they did their job, she understood the consequences of the hours and how some cases take a larger toll than others. But she also knew the effects of being too ‘in’ on the job. How easily it is to overwhelm yourself, and completely indulge in the rush that puts the bad people away. That’s what scared her. She knew her father wasn’t around a lot when she was growing up because of this job, so a piece of her does resent it. She resents the nights they would eat dinner without him, the Sunday’s he wasn’t at church. She resented the birthday parties and minor holidays he would miss, she resented it all. One of the main reasons she hasn’t made a choice yet is because one of her biggest fears is turning into her father. But also one of her biggest goals is to do that very thing.
“I say I need a little more time.” She finally admits.
“Okay. You have two days,” Voight says standing up and walking over to his chair.
“Okay? Thats it?” She asks confused.
“That’s it. You need time, I gave you time.” He said sitting down and opening a case file.
Cassie looked at Jay again who was biting the inside of his cheek.
Looking back at her father who isn’t paying any attention to the pair now she rubbed the back of her neck.
“I- um, yeah, okay. I’ll let you know.” She said turning to walking out the door but Jay was blocking it.
Staring into space and not noticing the girl trying to leave, Jay finally moved once she cleared her throat muttering a quick ‘excuse me.’
“What was that about?” Erin asked as the pair walked out of Voight’s office catching the rest of intelligence’s attention.
Cassie walked closer to the other girl before disclosing what just happened.
“He just offered me a job.” She said emotionlessly crossing her arms and staring daggers into Lindsay’s eyes. Cassie didn’t say it loud enough for the rest of the unit to hear, but by Erin’s reaction they knew it was big.
“Are you serious!?” Erin shouted catching everyone’s attention again making Cassie’s eyes grow wide.
“Shhh,” the girl said glancing around at their audience. “C’mon.” She finally said bowing her head and walking out of the office with Erin following her.
Once they stepped outside the district to catch some fresh air, Cassie broke. Full pacing, chewing her lips, and lightly pinching her bicep with her crossed arms.
“He offered me a job!” She finally shouted looking at her just as shocked sister. The only difference is, Lindsay doesn’t show it as obviously.
“What are you going to do?” Erin asked sitting down on the bench.
Stopping in her tracks Cassie turns to do the same. Now instead of pacing, her leg is restlessly bouncing against the bench seat, slightly annoying Erin.
“I don’t know. I just got my paramedic certification and I’ve been promoted to PIC. I absolutely adore my partner, Sylvie Brett. The environment has relaxed since Matt and Dad have worked out their issues, I just, I’m at a loss right now.” She said resting her elbows on her knees.
“Okay, so what are some pros and cons of becoming a detective right now.” Erin pressed now rubbing circles against the other girls back.
“Well, I’ve already been through the academy and worked the streets, so I’d just come directly upstairs if I transfer. I get to work closer with you, Dad, and Jay. The hours seem pretty shit though,”
“And 24-48 hour shifts are any better?” Erin asked chuckling.
“You’re right.” Cassie said quietly.
“But I won’t get to wear my 5.11’s anymore.” Cassie said sadly looking over at her sister.
“What is that?”
“The EMS pants.”
“And?”
“And they made my butt look good. Sue me.”
Bursting into a fit of laughter, the girls took a few minutes to recollect their thoughts and calm down. All of the previous worries leaving Cassie’s mind, all except for one.
“What if I don’t have what it takes?” Cassie asked sitting up straight and looking dead ahead of her.
“In what way?”
“What if I won’t be able to solve the crimes or actually put people away? What if I’m just the weak link that’s going to make the whole unit drown?” She asks quieter truly unsure.
“If you didn’t have what it takes, do you really think Hank would’ve offered you the job?” Erin asked.
“Out of pity? Probably.” Cassie said knowing it wasn’t true.
“No. If you didn’t have what it took to be a good cop, Hank would not put the whole unit in jeopardy just to make you feel better in some way. Especially not out of pity.” Erin said looking over at her sister who knows better.
“How am I supposed to just quit my other job? Just walk in and say, ‘Hey here’s my two week notice, but scratch that and make it my last shift notice because instead of being a paramedic I’m gonna be a detective in a special unit! Don’t hate me, I know it’s only my third time switching my whole career field but you know, yolo!’”
“Precisely.” Erin joked earning an eye roll from Cassie.
Exactly two days later on the dot, Cassie had a plan.
Walking into 51, Cassie went straight to Chief Boden’s office.
“Sir, can I speak with you?” She asked knocking on his slightly cracked door.
“Yeah, come on in.” He said waving her in and taking his glasses off.
“So what’s this about? You’re not on shift until tomorrow.” He said as he watched her get comfortable in the seat before him.
“I-uh,” Cassie chuckled a little as she tried to fan her face so tears won’t fall. Taking a deep breath before continuing she looked her Chief in the eye and flashed a sympathetic smile. Taking the resignation slip out of her coat pocket, she layed the document on his desk.
“Cassie,” He said almost breathlessly as he stared at the pink slip before him.
“If this is about what happened a few days ago, you can take a few shifts off. You know, decompress. Cope. You don’t have-”
“It’s not about that,” Cassie interrupted.
“It’s not about that situation, or you, or anyone else here at 51. You guys are my family and I will forever cherish the experiences and connections I’ve made here.” Taking a pause Cassie glanced down at her now bleeding cuticles as she was picking at them nervously.
“As you may know, I used to be a cop at the 31st district. I completed the academy, and I was a patrolman for two years. In the middle of that, I realized that, that uniform was not for me. I realized I had another calling, and that was to be a paramedic. Thats why for the last three years I’ve worked my ass off, pardon my language, to become an EMT then a Paramedic, and now a PIC. But after what happened, they let me in the room to help question Lullo. To help get the confession from him, and I did. And it was euphoric. To be the one to help put someone behind bars that deserved it, that was my calling. That was my original intention of becoming a cop, and that’s why, when I got the job offer to become a detective, to continue my law enforcement career, I knew I couldn’t pass it up. Becoming a paramedic has been the best thing in my life, and I will forever be indebted to you, and everyone else that helped that dream come true. But I know becoming a detective, and doing real work besides patrolling the streets, that’s my life’s purpose.” Cassie finally said wiping a few stray tears.
Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes for a moment, Boden didn’t know what to say.
“As much as I admire your adaptability, and your ability to find purpose in so many things in life, I’ve got to say I’m disappointed. I’m obviously sad to see you go, I truly thought you had a big future here, and being a paramedic in general. Because you’re good at it. You’ve got the guts and the leadership skills to take charge and be the person everyone else looks up too in this community, but I understand you have to follow your gut. I understand you have bigger things to accomplish in life. Cassie, you’re going to do amazing no matter where you work, no matter what you do. I will always be here for you if you need anything, but I want you to consider your decision one last time. Because once I file this paper, you will never be a paramedic again. Not unless you go through the courses and training again. Do you understand that?” He finally asks looking at the girl.
Taking a pause and truly thinking everything over again. Cassie reluctantly nods.
“I understand.” She says now earning a slow nod from the man.
“Then I wish you well. You’re going to do great things.” He finally says standing up at the same time as Cassie and giving her a brief hug.
“Cassie wait,” He calls out making her stop in her tracks, “have you told anyone?”
“No.”
“Do you want to? That way you can break the news?”
Taking a deep breath and thinking it over, Cassie knew she wouldn’t be able to go through with this if she did, so in the most selfish way possible, Cassie shook her head.
“No.” She said now walking out.
As Cassie walked out to her car she let her tears free fall and pulled out her phone.
Cassie:“I’m in.”
Dad: “I know. I’ll see you Monday.”

A/N: Hi guys here is an original imagine, it's based on Chicago PD Season 3, Episode 10. I hope everyone likes it.
Don't be afraid to leave your comment!
-------------
Like every other day you were feeling exhausted, nauseous and plain out of it. A year ago, you were diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, this marking a year after you got married to the love of your life -Jay Halstead-. You knew you had a predisposition to cancer, your mom Camille suffered and died from it when you were younger. So, in one of your annual check ups the terrible news came true, your family and friends were afraid you would suffer as your mom did. You were still having treatments monthly, already having taken this month’s chemo session.
It was hard on yourself, of course you were the one going through it, but for Jay. Well let’s say he had to see firsthand your parents history repeating itself. He was always there, for every sickness, through the depression state. He watch as you cried every night while pulling strings of hair from your head, and even after all of the treatments you had received to this day you looked healthy -the only noticeable thing, was the hair falling and the weight loss-.
Turning into your rock just as your dad had done for your mother all those years ago. Nonetheless he always tried his best to bring joy and happiness to you. Making you smile and laugh had turned into his daily goal -and his life promises-. Going home early, always bringing roses and pizza -your favorites-. Making sure you knew you could count on him to pull you back together in times of desperation.
You were currently home waiting for your husband to call you to have lunch together. Having a very weird feeling in your stomach, you went to lay down -its probably side effects- you thought going to bed.
Unknown to you your dad’s whole team was currently at Chicago Med attending a new case relating, victims being brought with chemo overdose. This struck a nerve deep down on everyone, turning to disbelief. Jay felt sick to his stomach by just thinking about you being in that situation.
“This is so fucked up…” Jay said looking around the room, while everyone shook their heads, Hank turning his gaze to the floor.
Just then Natalie Manning entered the room letting them know about another victim brought with the same diagnosis. While looking into the new victims stuff they found out all 4 patients knew each other, what they didn’t expect was the name Antonio said seconds later,
“I got a name. Doctor Dean Reybold” silence.
“What!” Jay said head snapping up at Hank, a terrified look on his face. Erin dropping what she had in her hands in the table, turning to look at Hank and Jay, same look in her eyes -recognition, fear, anger-.
Jay stood up rushing out of the room with Hank, Erin hot in his heels. Pressing the elevator button Jay tried taking deep breaths, nothing was working.
“Hank, Jay…” she said arriving at their side.
“Don’t. Don’t say anything Erin…I- I just wanna go home and see my wife” shaking his head trying to keep his ragging tears at bay. If this was true…
“Right…” Hank said stoic expression on his face -even though that wasn’t what he was going to do-
“Hey, I’m serious you can’t go” “Like hell we can!” Hank turned to look at her just as Alvin appeared behind her,
“No, I’ll go he won’t know who I am. If he’s the one overdosing this women…” “C’mon pal, just you and me…” Alvin tried to reason with Voight. Making Jay scoff, shaking his head, feeling like he couldn’t breathe.
“It been a year since I’ve heard that name” Hank started.
“We know…” Erin responded
“No. You don’t. He was the oncologist to diagnose Y/N’s cancer. He’s been treating her ever since…” Jay said turning to look at Al and Erin his voice breaking at the thought of you being another of his victims. Erin looked surprised she didn’t know you were being treated by Reybold.
“He last treated Camille and he has been treating my daughter too. If he’s the one doing this…” “We’ll get him Hank” Alvin finished making Erin nod. Hank nodded, turning to Jay who looked like he had seen a ghost, eyes red; so, putting a hand on his shoulder,
“Go home. Get Y/N to get checked let’s make sure…” he couldn’t finish the sentence, he just couldn’t. Jay nodded getting into the elevator, now alone bending hands on his knees while releasing his tears. This couldn’t be happening, not to you. From all the people in the world, not to you.
You had woken up from your nap currently in the kitchen having a glass of water and some pills for the nausea when you heard the door open, furrowing your eyebrows confused. Who was it? Jay wasn’t supposed to be home so early, but you were answered as you heard him,
“Honey!” “Kitchen…” then you heard his footsteps, when you saw his face, you knew something was seriously wrong. He rushed towards you picking you up by the waist in a bone crushing hug -what’s going on?- you thought to yourself. He sat you down on the kitchen aisle cupping both your cheeks, before taking a deep breath. Let the nightmare begin…
You felt numb in the car, you knew you were crying when your tears hit the palm of your hand that was in your lap. You felt like you were floating as you walked hand in hand with Jay towards a treatment room. You sat in the bed feet crossed gaze on the wall, Jay slightly behind you sharing a bit of space on the gurney. You could barely register Jay’s left hand on your back, right hand in you thigh while you waited for the inevitable.
“Jay…Y/N…” your brother-in-law, Will said when he walked trough the door. Jay looked up at his brother’s face, unreadable expression which made him worry even more. He proceeded to give your thigh a squeeze getting your attention, nodding towards his brother the minute you looked at him.
“Will’s here…”
“I don’t think I can hear it…” you said looking at Will, your eyes puffy from the crying. Will nodded taking a sit in the chair next to the bed taking a hold of your hand. -This is it…- you thought.
“Just say it man…” Jay said,
“Test show you’re clear of cancer…” he paused as you and Jay sighed in relieve both closing your eyes, before he continued, “…there’s no trace of any- ever being present in your body…” you sobbed while Jay pulled your back to his chest.
He wrapped his arms around you, closing his eyes tightly trying not to cry. Will could only squeeze your hand, dropping his head. You never had cancer; test showed you were as healthy as they came -of course with the exception of all the side effects from the chemo that you never needed-.
You went back to the district with Jay, he didn’t want to leave you alone, and you didn’t want to be alone. Claiming the stairs to the front desk you were met with Trudy, who immediately rounded her desk to hug you -Jay had called her before arriving- knowing you needed her.
“We’re gonna get this asshole. You hear me, you have my word…” she whispered in your ear while you cling to her, nodding your head. When you pulled away, Jay pulled you back into him, arm over your shoulder while you continued your trip upstairs. Everyone’s attention turned to the both of you, Erin walking up to you hugging you.
“And?” Hank asked hugging and kissing your head. When you didn’t say anything as you went back into Jay’s arms, your dad looked at your husband.
“Test say she never had it…” he said closing his eyes calm voice while putting his cheek on your head. This sentence made everyone gasp silently. You were never ill. You heard your dad scoff before going into his office, Al following. Jay took you to the break room sitting you in the couch before he bend in front of you hand in your cheek, kissing you deeply.
In that kiss you both shared the desperation, the anxiousness, the pain and most important the love. You stayed foreheads together and eyes closed for a moment, until you broke the silence.
“He lied…” you whispered, while your husband caressed your hips,
“I know…” “He said- he said I had cancer” you said looking at Jay pained and betrayed expression. Before standing up and going towards the garage.
“Y/N! Hey- baby talk to me…” he said reaching the bottom of the stairs, making you shake your head while you started to paced back and forth in front of the cage.
“Baby, don’t do that…” “Do what!” you screamed, making him shake his head, then pointing at you.
“That!” he paused before continuing, “Don’t bottle it up! You have to feel it…” he said raising his voice slightly.
“I DON’T WANNA FEEL IT” you screamed at him, tears staring to roll down your cheeks. “FEEL IT Y/N. FEEL IT!” he screamed back, to this you paused chest heaving until you couldn’t anymore, and you started sobbing your heart out.
“He told me he would cure me. He made promises- HE KNEW HE COULD KEEP THEM! I never had this fucking cancer of shit…” you screamed in between sobs, looking at Jay angry look on both your faces.
“Fucking. Shit. Motherfucking. Asshole! I. FUCKING. HATE. HIM!” you continued yelling kicking the door of the cage with every word you said. He was right you needed to feel, you needed to grieve, and you needed to cry or else it would consume you.
During your ‘feeling session’, Jay had taken a sit on a bench nearby, just making sure to keep an eye on you. No one else could hear you from down here, so you screamed, cried and kicked. Jay just continued to make sure you didn’t hurt yourself. Averting his gaze when he felt that he would cry too. You were tired, your eyes were swollen, and you barely had any voice left.
Sniffing and taking a shaky breath one last time, you went and sat at Jay’s feet, putting your head in his lap. He put his chin on his hand looking down at you. You heard him sigh before you felt his hand on your hair,
“Better?” he asked, “…better…” he leaned to kiss your cheek.
“I love you. He will pay. I’ll make sure of it…I promise” he said to which you nodded, “I love you too”
“Hey sorry to interrupt…we’re hitting” Erin said looking worriedly at you, without second thought Jay bend down to kiss you before running up the stairs.
Arriving at Reybold office, Erin had found him in a conference room. The minute Jay entered, Reybold smiled sadly at him -Reybold knew who Jay was obviously-. This made Jay give him a dead glare, jaw tensing, before Hank entered.
“Destroying patient documents Doctor Reybold?” Hank rhetorically asked, “I have nothing to hide Hank…” Reybold said calmly.
“You sure?” Jay said taking a step closer to a sitting Reybold. “Wait you three know each other?” Reybold’s lawyer -Miss Green- asked,
“I treated sergeant Voight’s late wife” “That’s not all is it?” Erin asked disgusted look in her face,
“I’m also treating sergeant Voight’s daughter, detective Halstead’s wife…” “Don’t say another word” his lawyer intervened.
“You know who doesn’t destroy patient files- innocent people” Hank continued taking steps towards him.
“Hank, Jay, you know me. I was there with you when Y/N was diagnosed…” “Shut up! Don’t talk about my wife” Jay cut him off finger pointed at him, deadly look in his face.
“Cuff him up” “Gladly!” Jay said while yanking Reybold up from his chair and pulling him out of the conference room.
After that the team tried their best to get some information out of him, but there wasn’t anything useful. They had suggested that you testified but being honest you weren’t near ready to talk about the whole situation. You were feeling wounded and betrayed, both you and Jay saying a big fat no. Miss Shelby -the lawyer taking the case- had advised not to since it could be used to dismiss the case in court giving how personal it was for the unit.
A couple of weeks later now in court, sitting next to your husband his arm around your shoulders pulling towards him, while you had your hand on his knee. Your attention was pulled back when your dad took the stand. The case wasn’t going well, Reybold’s defense was dismissing every evidence intelligence brought, and they couldn’t bring in the victims for some technicality. Every question asked was objected; the team had nothing at this point.
That was until your dad said he had witnessed Reybold administering chemo to your mom.
“I saw Doctor Reybold dose my wife Camille who died of cancer under his care, and my son-in-law has witnessed my daughter Y/N receiving treatment from Reybold…” this made your blood run cold. Jay tightening his grip on you kissing the side of your head. Erin holding onto your hand for support.
“I’m here. Breath…” Jay whispered in your ear. You blocked the rest of Reybold’s lawyer questions not wanting to remember how your mom was in her last days. This until Miss Shelby stood up again.
“Redirect…what other victims are you referring to Sergeant?” “Objection!” Miss Green objected.
“Miss Green questioned my witness about one prior patient Camille Voight and one current patient Y/N Halstead. Now she opened the door for all 42 patients he treated”
“She’s right overruled” you immediately saw the fail on Miss Green’s face. She knew they had lost the case for good.
“What other victims?” “Helen Graham, Nia Felton, Priya Parvati, Y/N Halstead and 38 other people this doctor diagnosed with cancer they didnt have and treated with chemo they didn’t need”
“How do you know this?” Miss Shelby asked. “Because Doctor Reybold confessed to personally poisoning 42 patients, ruining their lives, terrifying them and their families, on court under oath…” you looked at your dad teary smile on your face, Jay pecking your head over and over again. While your sister squeezed your hand.
After your dad left the stand, you entered the room your he was in with Jay next to you, Erin finished hugging him. Which you took as opportunity to hug him tightly.
“Thank you…mom would be proud” whispering while he nodded, not showing too much emotion. Everyone knew Hank Voight wasn’t a big emotion showing person.
The jury had declared Doctor Reybold guilty of all charges, and while he shouted to your dad, saying that he had said the truth about your mom’s cancer,
“I would never harm Camille. I was their only hope, they got years because of me. You can’t put someone away for saving lives…” he paused before looking towards you. Making Jay shake his head warningly,
“Shut up…” Jay said serious look while he took a step-in front of you.
“I would never hurt you Y/N, I saved you…” he said, making you step out slightly from behind your husband,
“You’re just a liar and coward. Rot in hell you fucking piece of shit” you said so only he could hear you while he was being dragged away.
Arriving at home, you took your shoes off, about to walk into the living room when Jay pulled you back, cupping your face and kissing you deeply. You wrapped your arms around his neck thumb caressing his neck, pulling back looking at each other. He tapped your waist slightly so you would jump and wrap your legs around his waist, like that he carried you towards the couch. Sitting with you straddling his lap while he smiled when you pocked his nose.
“Thank you, baby…” you whispered looking down at him, which made him confused,
“For what hon?” he caressed your cheek looking deeply into your beautiful eyes.
“For keeping your promise” “Always beautiful” he answered pecking your lips, before you snuggling your head into his neck, his chin on top of your head. In this moment he was exited and grateful that he had the opportunity of a future with you. That you both could live without the paralyzing feeling of uncertainty, that one day you wouldn’t be there anymore.

Dude, There’s A Cop
Summary: Lyla pulls Elleigh away from doing something stupid.  Little did they know, a police officer was watching the whole time.
TW: Suicidal Thoughts, Slight Language Warning
Word Count: Around 596
Note:  Hi!  This one was inspired by something that happened to my friend and I yesterday and she wanted me to turn it into a fanfiction.
FYI:  Lyla is Jay and Hailey’s daughter (when I originally thought of Lyla she was supposed to be Jay and Hailey’s adoptive daughter.  It went from that to biological daughter to Halstead!Sister, which you can see based on the other imagines I’ve posted.)
Also, Elleigh is pronounced Ellie, Elleighana is pronounced Ellie-Anna (If you couldn’t tell I love unique names/unique spelling.)
Should I write more daughter fics?  Also I do take requests, it just may take a while depending on how I feel writing it/if I feel like writing it.
I also may not write a request at all if I feel like I don’t have enough creativity or freedom if that makes sense.
Enough from me, I hope you enjoy!! (:
“Come on, Elleigh, get out of the road!”  Lyla complained as she dragged Elleigh along, stopping her from standing in the middle of the road.  The car passed them, the driver looking at them like they were stupid.
“They’re looking at us like we’re stupid.”  Lyla complained as the two of them walked along, Elleigh just laughing slightly and putting a different song on.
They took a right and kept walking, eventually moving to the left to get onto another road by the bike trail.
“Ooh, a car!”  Elleigh exclaimed kind of childishly, standing in the middle of the road and putting her arms out as if she wanted the car to hit her (hint, she did).
“Here we go again.”  Lyla thought to herself, grabbing Elleigh’s arm, practically dragging her away from the road, “Come on, Elleigh!  Stop standing in the middle of the road!”
“Aww.”  Elleigh complained as the car passed them, Lyla rolling her eyes, clearly annoyed.  Elleigh would do this every time they went somewhere, and it honestly kind of got on Lyla’s nerves, because Elleigh wasn’t about to throw herself in front of a car on Lyla’s watch.
The two walked up the hill, walking over the bike trail and back down the hill onto another road, jumping over a puddle as they did so.  They walked down a small street, standing in front of the highway at the end of it.
“Wait.”  Lyla instructed, putting her arm out to stop Elleigh from throwing herself in front of the car.  After a moment, it was safe enough to cross.
“Okay, now we can go.”  Lyla grabbed Elleigh’s arm, pulling her across the street, Elleigh struggling playfully against her.  They made it to the sidewalk, Elleigh trying to step into the road as more cars drove past.
“Elleigh, stop.”  Lyla demanded, grabbing Elleigh’s arm as Elleigh stumbled to the side and almost fell, being the clumsy person she is.  Lyla shook her head, “People are gonna think you’re drunk!”
“But I am.”  Elleigh replied playfully, Lyla just laughing at the comment.
“Dude, there’s a cop right there.”  Lyla stated, seeing the truck parked across the street.  She looked at it as the driver stepped out, walking across the vacant parking lot and stopping at the end of it.  He looked both ways as if he was about to cross.
“He’s coming!”  Lyla exclaimed, laughing slightly.
Elleigh and Lyla watched as the officer crossed the street, and it was that moment Lyla realized who it was.
Lyla burst out laughing, and it was when Lyla did so that Elleigh too realized who it was.
“Oh my God.”  Elleigh muttered, “He’s gonna tell my dad!”
“Hi Dad.”  Lyla greeted, Elleigh sending her a death glare.
“Elleigh, what are you doing?”  Jay questioned, ignoring Lyla as he crossed his arms and stood in front of the two of them.
“I, uh-”  Elleigh trailed off, not knowing what to say.
Jay sighed, “Alright.  Just, stop doing that, okay?  Cars keep trying to brake because they don’t want to hit you.”
“His breath stank.”  Lyla whispered, Elleigh sending her a death glare.
She turned her attention back to Jay, “I’m sorry.  It won’t happen again.”
     “It’s okay.  I trust you.”
“Good.  Just, please don’t tell my dad.”
Jay chuckled, looking behind him, “I won’t have to.”
“Elleighana Lin Voight, what in the world are you doing?”  Hank questioned as he crossed the street, an angry look on his face.
Lyla snickered as Elleigh groaned in annoyance.  There was no way in hell she’d be doing that again.

Exciting ||Jay Halstead x Daughter and reader
Jay has to take his daughter to work for the first time and he’s not excited about it.
For the one that voted Jay x daughter on the poll (this is not a Christmas story though)
Jay wasn’t comfortable with the idea of taking his 4 years old daughter to work, but seemed like luck was not on his side. The girl was on vacation, Y/N was on a work trip, the nanny got sick, Will was on shift and the little girl’s grandparent’s couldn’t take care of her all day long, so he had no choice. He called Voight, who with his raspy voice and without any problem said “Bring her.”
He sighed, “Ok, baby girl. You are coming to work with me today” He notified his little daughter who was sitting with her short legs hanging from the couch.
“To the police station?” Her eyes were shining bright out of excitement.
“Yea”, her dad chuckled. “Mommy will pick you up later, when she comes back home from her trip, ok?”
“Okay. I am excited!” Excited was the last feeling she learned in school and from then on she would use it for everything.
“I am excited too”, he lied, he was more nervous than anything. “Go get your backpack”, he ordered and when she was gone he muttered to himself, “I’m already running late”
It wasn’t common to take one’s son or daughter to the bullpen, but is wasn’t so strange either. Voight and Al had done it in the past with their kids; Burgess and Adam had done it with Malayla too, even Kevin had to take his little sister from time to time. This was the family Hank talked about.
Jay went upstairs with a small pink and shinny backpack with unicorn form on his arm, making a funny contrast with the gun hanging from his hips.
“Where’s the baby girl?” Adam said when he saw his friend arriving alone.
“Platt stole her from me”, he answered. He would have arrived even later if he had waited for Trudy to give her back to him. Kim smiled at the image.
“We haven’t seen her in a while”, Al peeked his head from his hidden desk to participate in the conversation, “A bit of her cheerfulness will do good to this place”
“Well, she is, and I’m quoting, “very excited” to see you all”, the proud dad smirked.
But as much excited as she was, the baby Halstead was very shy to even say good morning to them. As soon as Trudy Platt carried her upstairs, the girl ran towards her father as fast as she could.
“Why are you crying?” Jay asked in a very low voice, while sitting her on his lap.
But the one answering the question was Platt, “She started to worry when she noticed you weren’t around downstairs and then silently started crying”
Ashamed, the little Halstead girl hugged her dad’s neck and buried her face on his shoulder. A chorous of “aw” was heard around. This wasn’t what she expected, visiting the police station didn’t make her feel excited after all.
“It’s alright”, Jay kept whispering into her ear. It was only after a few minutes later that she calmed down, but even when she was acting as if nothing had happened, she was still embarrased.
Al passed by from the coffee room to his desk and handed a coockie to the girl. She hesitated on accepting it, she first turned to her dad who nodded in approval and she stretched her tiny arm to take it.
“Precauted girl. Good”, Olinsky smiled at her and she smiled back.
“Why don’t you take your colors and get to work in your coloring book, hm?” Jay said more like an order as he put her down. He couldn’t really advance in his work if she was there right beside him.
They walked to an unoccupied desk right infront of Adam. The girl climbed the chair as her dad took her belongings out of the unicorn backpack, “There you go. I’ll be right there if you need me. Remember to…”
“…be quiet, shhh” his daughter completed.
She stayed there for a while, coloring different pages. The detectives, specially Kim, would praise her artistic work whenever they had to walk by her side. She liked Kim, that woman was funny, but she couldn’t really take her eyes off of the man who had gave her the cookie: Alvin Olinsky, but he was too busy to noticed.
“Daddy”, she silently stood up an whispered, trying not to distract the people around, “I don’t want to color anymore. I want to draw”
“Uh, let me check if I have something for you to—“
“I have some white sheets in here”, Hailey opened a drawer and handed a bunch to the Halstead girl. She liked Hailey too, she had a bright smile.
“How do you say?” Her father encouraged her before going back to her place.
“Thank you, Hailssss”
She was immersed in her own world, drawing, coloring and cutting. She stood up to get closer to Adam and touched his leg to call his attention.
“How do you write ‘I love you’?” She asked the detective.
“Oh!” He took a notebook and a pen, “Very easy, let me just show you”
Jay looked up to witness the scene, altough he couldn’t hear any word they were exchanching, “Hey, sweetie”, he called out, “Let Ruz work, ok?”
“No big deal” His collegue said handing her the sheet.
A few minutes later, the little girl stood up once more to go with her father. She stretched her hand to hand him a very colorful circle of paper.
“Wow! Is this for me?” Jay exxagerated his emotion, and then melted when he read the phrase ‘I love you’ followed by a crooked heart.
With excitement, she explained it was a cup holder: “Yea, you can put your mug there”. Following orders from such a smooth voice, Jay placed his mug over the gift.
“Just what I needed” He kissed her head. When she withdrew of his side, Jay immediatly took the paper with the witten phrase and placed it in a spot where he was able to see it all the time.
Before going back to sit on her chair, the girl passed by Al’s desk and stood next to him staring, until he finally noticed.
She took him by surprise, a cute surprise, “Hey, you scared me!” That made her laugh.
“What do you like the most?” The kid asked wothout any other introduction, “Ducks or unicorns?”
Detective Olinsky took his time to answer the question. He observed that Halstead’s daughter was wearing a T-shirt full of unicorns, her pink shinny backback also had the shape of a unicorn, so he went by that, thinking it would be the correct answer.
“Unicorns, I love unicorns”
But she didn’t had the reaction he expected, instead she sadenned, “Oh! I was going to draw a duck for you”
Being in a space close to Olinsky, and paying attention to what his daughter was doing all the time, Jay listened and couldn’t help to smile to the reaction of his parter.
“Oh, well, I love ducks too!” Alvin tried to amend his error.
“A duck, then?”
“Yea, a duck!”
And she moved her tiny legs as fast as she could. Both detectives shared a look and laughed.
It didn’t pass a lot of time when the girl was next to Olinsky’s chair again, but this time he noticed. Without speaking, she handed to him the drawing of a duck happily swimming in a lake.
“What? Is this for me?” She nodded. There was something peaceful in his voice that she liked. “Thank you very much! I really love it. What’s this?” He pointed to a brown circle tha was close to the animal. The answer make him smile showing his teeth.
“A cookie”
“Well, this masterpiece deserves to be in a special place” The detective took a bit of tape and pasted the drawing where it could be seen by everyone.
Little Halstead ran to his father to tell him what just had happened.
“That’s not fair!” Adam teased her later on the day. “I want my own drawing too! I showed you how to write that phrase, you gotta remember that!”
“It will have to be another day”, Jay intervened. “Time to pick everything up, your mom’s on her way to pick you up”
“Mommy’s back?” She asked with the same bright eyes she had when realizing she was going to the police station.
“Yeah!” Her dad smirked.
“I am excited!” She stated while putting her stuff back into the backpack.
“Say goodbye, time to go. Mommy’s downstairs”
She waved her little hand to everybody in the bullpen, “Bye bye”. She even peeked her head into Voight’s office, “Goodbye, Serge”
“You are leaving already? Goodbye, little one” Hank said in a very friendly tone, “Come back soon, whenever you want”
She laughed at the idea, “I will”
It was a bit hard for her to walk down the stairs. “Do you need help?” Jay asked with his arms opened to carry her and she jumped to him.
As soon as she spotted Y/N at the desk with Trudy she yelled at her. Jay put her down on the floor when the stairs were over and his baby ran towards her mom, who picked her up in a tight hug.
“Mommy!”
“Ugh, how much I missed you” Y/N said covering their daughter in kisses.
“Me too!”
“Did the detectives threated you good?” Trudy asked, “How was your day at daddy’s work, hm?”
Wothout hesitating and with a lot of emotion, the girl answered “Oh! It was exciting!”

“Any cases?” Jay asked as he sat down at his desk.
Erin shook her head. It had been a slow day for the intelligence unit. “No its been a slow day.”
“Hmmm.” Voight hummed also listening to Erin’s answer. Even Voight was getting bored.
But when Trudy came up the stairs with concern on her face, that got everyone's attention. “Voight. Y/n’s principle is on the phone.”
“Thank you, Trudy.” Voight nodded and headed into his office and picked up the phone. “Hello.”
“Hello, Mr.Voight. I’m sorry for calling you at work.” Y/n’s principal apologized over the phone.
“It's not a problem. What's going on? Is Y/n alright?” Voight spoke with a tight voice. It was rare when the school called him so he was really worried but trying not to show it.
There was a pause on the phone before the person on the other side cleared their throat. “That's why I called there was an altercation and Y/n got very hurt so we’ve sent her to Chicago Med. We wanted to let you know and we also we’re hoping you could send down someone to talk to the kids responsible.”
“Yeah, I can do that.” Voight stated after a moment of silence. After that, the phone call ended and Voight shook his head trying to control his anger before exiting his office. “Ruzek and Linsdey head down to Y/n’s school and bring in the kids they’ll have there waiting for you back here to talk. Burgess call their parents and let them know that I’ll be pressing charges.”
“Voight, what happened?” Erin asked as her and the others started on their orders. All of them were now concerned about the teen girl they had all come to love and be very protective of.
“Some kids hurt Y/n bad enough that the school has sent her to Chicago Med.” Voight explained gruffly, trying to keep his worries and anger in check.
“What?!” Adam raised his brows in shock and he felt anger bubbling up on the inside. Much like everyone else in the room.
“Seriously? They just what? Let that happen?!” Jay was furious, he hadn’t known her the longest but even with his problems with Voight. Jay and Y/n had become close. They’d hang out, and go do things together. It bonded them. They’re friends. Y/n is like a little sister that Jay never had.
“Apparently. Look I’m going to Med to be with my daughter.” It unnerved the unit with how calm Voight seemed to be.
“I’ll come with you.” Jay said getting up to follow the older man.
“Let's go.” Voight nodded, he knew how close his daughter was to Jay. He might bring some comfort.
Everyone else headed off to do what they needed to do.
Once they arrived at Med, they went straight to the ED. Upon seeing his brother Jay called out. “Will!”
“How is she?” Voight asked as the redheaded Halstead appeared and stood in front of them.
Will let out a sigh, looking between his brother and Voight. “She doesn’t need surgery, which is the good news.”
As much of a relief that was it still left a question. “An the bad news?”
“About 70% of her body is covered in bruising, and she has a broken wrist, a few cracked ribs, and a laceration above her eye.” Will gave them a sad look. He to like a lot knew Y/n, and Will felt for the girl. She didn’t deserve this.
“Jeez Will.” Jay felt like throwing up. How could the school let it get this far? Or happen at all.
“I know.” Will nodded, he felt just like Jay.
“Where is she? Can I see her?” Voight asked keeping his feelings at bay for the time being. He was feeling to many things at once anyway.
“Yeah, right this way.” Will stated, leading them back to the trauma room Y/n Voight had been assigned to.
As they reached the room and saw y/n sitting up in the bed slightly leaning back. Probably to take pressure off her ribs.
“Hey, how about we go get copies of the injury reports and give them a minute?” Jay suggested with a tilt of his head. Wanting to give the father and daughter some space.
There were some moments of silence as Voight moved to sit down in the chair next to the hospital bed. It got to the point that Voight needed answers to keep his brain occupied. “Kid-”
“I know, dad.” Y/n cut him off nodding. Already knowing what he was going to say.
“What exactly happened?” he asked. He needed to know for many reasons but his main one and his focus now was just why and how this happened to his little girl. “Y/n.”
Y/n let out a sigh, knowing she had to tell him cause it was going to far and out of hand now. “It’s not the first time something happened.”
“You mean-”
Y/n nodded not looking at him. She couldn’t look at him. Not in the eyes. “It's normally not this bad.”
Now Voight was having an even harder time keeping it together. How could he not notice? How come she didn’t come to him? “Why didn’t you tell me? Or anyone?”
“I've tried before. To tell teachers bit either they do nothing or it just makes it worse.” She had thought about telling her dad or even Jay but if the school wouldn’t help how could they?
Voight shook his head reaching out for her hand, trying to get her to look at him. “I could’ve done something.”
“As a dad. Not as a cop. It wasn’t bad enough for cop involvement.” Y/n gave him a tight lipped sad smile.
She had a point and it bugged him cause he knew it was true. But now, this. This meant he could get involved as a cop, and a dad. “Well now it is and you can bet your ass I’m gonna do something about it.”
Y/n cracked a smile at him. “I don’t know who they should be more afraid of. You or Jay.”
“Combined force, sweetheart.”Voight gave her a half smirk half smile. Voight know she was right, he saw and could feel the anger coming off of Jay on the ride over to Med.
“Ohhh, deadly.” Y/n giggled wiggling her eyebrows and laughed. Even though they knew it was true.
Voight squeezed her hand for comfort before speaking. “You know you can talk to me right? About anything?”
He truly hoped she knew that. That she could come to him about anything and everything.
“I didn’t want to worry you.” Y/n shrugged but looked down feeling a little ashamed. That she didn’t tell him and that it happened at all.
“I’m your father. I worry even when your okay.” he told her sternly. He cared about her more than he could ever tell her. Or show her.
“I love you dad.” Y/n smiled at him grateful to have this off her chest, for him to know, and that he was by her side.
“I love you too.” Voight was gonna take care of this. An no one was gonna get in his way.

Jay Halstead- Case Gone Wrong
Tumblr media
It's been 2 weeks since YN's disappearance. 2 weeks since a case went wrong and YN was taken, tied up and beaten to an inch of her life. Everyone at intelligence has been working hard to find her, especially her boyfriend Jay and her dad Hank Voight
"Jay you need to go home, rest" Erin sighs at her partner
"I can't"
"I know your worried, so am I, but we won't help YN if we're tired"
"We won't help her if we're asleep either!" Jay yells, but Erin knows he's just tired, angry, upset, worried
"I think we may have a break through" Antonio says walking in with a woman "this is Mary she has something that could help us"
Voight and Antonio sit Mary down with a glass of water while the others stand behind the glass watching
"Tell him what you told me"
"Errm a couple of weeks ago I saw my neighbour take a young woman into his house. She was unconscious, she had a bandage on her head. So obviously I asked him if she was ok and he said that she fell and he was bringing her back from the hospital. I didn't think much of it. But this morning I watched him come home with more bandages"
"What did the girl look like?"
"Errm short dark blond hair, almost light brown. I didn't get a good look at her face, but she had a tattoo behind her ear" Voight and Antonio look at each other
"What was it?" Antonio asks
"It was a J I think"
"That's YN" Voight rubs his hand over his face
"We need an address"
Unbeknownst to YN, her PD family were on the way to save her while she was being tortured once again
"You nearly got me arrested. I thought you were my friend" Max, the guy they have been after for a year, says "thought we had something special. You know, after the trade I was going to ask you to be by my side permanently" YN doesn't speak, mainly because it hurts to open her mouth, but also because she has nothing to say to Max "now I think I'm going to have a little bit more fun with you, then I'll start cutting you up piece by piece, sent it to you dad, or maybe your boyfriend" Max grabs a knife stabbing it into her thigh, but she refuses to make any noise and give him the satisfaction.
Intelligence arrive in no time at all so when Max hears there's a bang upstairs, he looks at YN smiling. He places some tapes around YN's mouth, wrapping it around her head. He picks up his gun and leaves YN alone in the basement downstairs. All she can do is hope someone comes downstairs, but she knows that her dad and Jay will check every inch of this house.
Footsteps run down stairs, YN looks up to see Erin
"I got her!" Erin shouts running over to YN then sees the blood coming out of her thigh "I need an ambo at our location, stab wound victim loosing blood" Erin says into her radio after taking off her jacket and wrapping it tightly around her leg "guys I need help down here!" Erin yells again trying to untie the girl she classes as a sister "god YN your freezing" more footsteps are heard running down and over to YN
"Baby what did he do to you?" Jay exclaims before helping Erin
"He's wrapped the tape around her head. If we rip it off it will pull her hair out"
"Paramedics will have scissors, they can at least release her mouth" once Jay and Erin have YN untied, Jay picks his girlfriend up and takes her upstairs to wait for the ambo to arrive.
YN wakes up to Jay, Will and her dad in her hospital room
"Hey YN" Will softly says
"You want a drink?" Voight asks his daughter who slightly nods her head
"Here let me help you" Jay helps YN sit up a little so that her dad can direct the straw into YNs mouth. She takes a couple sips before laying back down. Jay moves some hair out of her face, she now noticed how tired both her boyfriend and dad look
"Have you slept?" YN asks quietly
"Not much. We were worried about you" Jay replies
"Do you remember what happened?" Will asks, YN gives him a nod "you had to have stitches in your leg"
"YN did he.. did he erm..." YN knows what Jay is trying to say
"No. Just hit me" Jay breaths a sigh of relief
"When can she leave?" Voight asks Will
"Well she can go home tomorrow as long as she's eaten and gone to the toilet. And she needs to have someone with her all the time for the next 2 weeks"
"Jay you can stay home with her, just have your phone on you"
"Got it"
"Now what do you say to trying to eat something?" Will asks. YN gives him a nod "ok. I'll be back in a bit" Will leaves the room
"Did you get Max?"
"Yeah we did"
"Good" YN smiles
"I'm going to head back to the precinct, I'll be back later" Voight says kissing his daughters forehead then leaving the room.
Jay stays with YN for the next 24 hours, even when Will and YN both tell him to go home.

Impulsive Decisions
Tumblr media
The fire raged on with a ferocity that seemed to devour everything that was in its path. Amidst the chaos, YN Voight stood on the opposite side of the street, her pounding against her chest as the sound of everyone’s cries filled the air. But there was one cry in particular that caught her undivided attention. The wails of a small child out of a second story window were the only one the young woman could focus on during all the commotion around her, fueling her determination as she watched the firemen around her scramble.
Without a moment of hesitation, YNN dashed into the blazes of the inferno, ignoring the calls of her to stop what she was doing and having her senses overwhelmed from the heat and smoke that now surrounded her. The intensity of her surroundings fueled her focus as she navigated the burning structure, each step being coordinated and careful maneuver.  The child’s cries guided YN’s way through the billowing smoke and constant falling debris.
With adrenaline as her only ally through the blazing heat and flames, she found the little boy, trapped in the far corner of his family’s apartment. Fear was etched across his tear-stained face. The Voight girl scooped up the small child, shielding his fragile frame from the danger that surrounded the two of them. As they made their way back out of the fiery blaze, YN passed a few other people that hadn’t quite yet found their way out of the building and continued to guide them out.
When they all finally emerged from the roaring inferno, her heart raced as she cradled the child protectively in her arms close to her chest. Will Halstead, seasoned doctor at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center as well as her boyfriend, and her father, Sergeant Hank Voight, dashed forward with evident concern etched upon their faces.
“My god, YNN!” Will voice cut through the chaos that surrounded them all. His eyes instantly began scanning over her body as well as the small boy’s for any injury that could have come to them as they braved the blazes. Relief flooded his expression as he found the two relatively unscathed.
Hank’s voice bellowed soon after, his authoritative tone laced with worry and anger towards his daughter. “What the hell were you thinking, YN?” He questioned her as Dr. Halstead took the child from her arms to return him to his parents who awaited off to the side. “Running into a fire like that? That was a careless and stupid move on your part?”
“I didn’t do anything that you wouldn’t have done yourself.” The YHC girl said as she looked into her father’s eyes and tried to catch her breath from the adrenaline high she was coming down from.
“Excuse me, Serge, if I may,” Will said as he stepped back up to the two of them, his voice firm but calm. “If it wasn’t for your daughter’s bravery all those people would have burned up in the flames. She saved them. YNN, saved a lot of people today. People who were trapped in their own homes and couldn’t find a way out. It takes a lot of courage to do what she just did. She only did what her father has taught her.”
The gravity of his words hung heavy in the air between the three of them, testament of his girlfriend’s strong will to be an ally to those less fortunate than her. Hank’s expression soften as he looked around them at the dozens of people his daughter helped, including and especially the little boy she came out carrying.
He looked back at YN with with gentle eyes, now that he had thought about everything that had transpired within the last half hour. “Get her checked out, will you?” He asked the Halstead man, in a slight grumble. “With how long you were in the building, the amount of smoke you inhaled isn’t good for anyone.”
As YNN sat in the ambulance, she couldn’t help but feel a storm of emotions swirling within her. Will stood by her side in a silent form of support, his presence a reassurance in the midst of everything going on. She knew her impulsive actions worried not only her father but him as well, but her sole focus had been on saving the boy.
“Thank you,” she said pulling the oxygen mask away from her face slightly. “Not only from saving me from Daddy’s lecture, but for just being here.”
Will smiled and reached out, taking her hand in his. “Babygirl, no matter what you do, I’ll support you. It’s just unfortunate that when dating a Voight, her dangerous and impulsive decisions come with the territory.” He stated with a small chuckle which in turn made the yea eyed girl let out a giggle of her own as she placed the mask back in its spot.

Just For A Moment - Part 1
Jay Halstead x OC/reader
This is my first time trying to write something angsty, so please be kind! I've seen quite a few fics where the partner always gets seen when they see their SO cheating, and its always teary denials and breakups, I wanted to put a spin on it and go down the line of "she knows, but she doesn't tell anyone" and the OC kind of just thinks of them as broken up and strangers without telling their SO that.
My plan with this storyline is that everyone kind of sides with Jay because no one really knows why she's being so cold with him, and it just carries on building until it reaches the breaking point. The question is, who'll break first?
Please let me know if you enjoyed this!

Voight had extended an offer for Aurora Gallo to join his Intelligence department a few days after Erin had left, Erin's departure left a gaping hole in the team and Voight was hopeful that Aurora would be the one to mend it.
Aurora was the daughter of an old friend of Hank's. She'd spent a few short years working her way through different organisations such as the CIA and FBI as an undercover operative.
But she needed a break. She was slowly losing herself in the multiple lives she had lived, and she needed a change.
Aurora hadn't expected the offer from Voight, but she was grateful all the same.
She moved to Chicago shortly after his offer, joining the Intelligence office and being partnered with him.
Jay Halstead.
Jay was an enigma - one she couldn't get enough of.
She had heard the rumours, of course. Of how Jay had been in love with Erin before she left.
And she had been the one to replace Erin, in both the team, and now in Jay's life.
It was hard not to draw comparisons. The whispers of the department always found their way to her, and, sometimes, when she looked into Jay's eyes, she always thought she could see him longing for more.
But she told herself not to worry, that Jay cared for her, that Jay chose her.
Not Erin, and definitely not anyone else.
That's what she continued to tell herself. Even after Hailey joined the team, even after Hailey found ways to get close to Jay when she wasn't his partner.
Soon, the small habits that Jay carried out for Aurora, he would carry out for Hailey too.
Checking up on her after a tough case, bringing her coffee in the mornings, dropping her off home after a late day at work, and picking her up bright and early in the morning. All of it, once done just for Aurora, were now moments and memories she shared with Hailey.
And just like that, those actions lost their meaning. But Aurora learnt to hide her hurt, instead choosing to ignore her heart and listen to Jay.
They were just friends.
That was what Jay had said the first time she expressed her concerns over their relationship, and she believed it. That everything Jay did for Hailey was out of the goodness of his heart because he was just so good.
So, on the night of their six month anniversary, when Aurora had dolled herself up and grabbed the cake, she had spent the whole day baking, on her way out of her apartment, she had left with a heart full of love and excitement.
The team had the day off today, and she had spent most of her morning at Jay's house before drumming up an excuse to go back to her apartment so she could finish her preparations.
Aurora held no sadness in her heart at the idea Jay might have forgotten their six month anniversary, after all such a thing wasn't significant to everyone.
But it was special to her, and she wanted to celebrate it with Jay - surprise him even.
Before leaving his place, she had asked Jay if he had plans, and he denied saying his only plan was to drink beer and watch the game. The revelation had calmed her nerves as she promised to text him later if she was free, knowing that she wouldn't because she wanted to surprise him instead.
And that was why she now stood in front of Jay's apartment, a small box with the cake she had baked and decorated that afternoon laid by her feet as she rummaged for the spare key Jay had given her for emergencies.
This seemed like the biggest emergency of all. If she stayed outside any longer, the frosting on her cake would melt off. And no one likes melted frosting.
As she quietly opened the door, she prayed silently that Jay had fallen asleep on the couch as she bent over to pick up her cake before walking through the door. As she closed the door behind her, her heart had calmed at the silence that rang through the apartment, hopeful that Jay truly had fallen asleep so she could set up the kitchen table before waking him.
She had taken two steps towards the kitchen before her eyes landed on the couch, and through the dim lights of a table lamp, she could make out that it was empty. She frowned slightly, hoping Jay wasn't asleep in bed - he rarely slept well, and the idea of waking him from a deep sleep rather than a nap would have just made her feel guilty.
If he had, she would just have to surprise him in the morning, and the thought brought a timid smile onto her face.
She continued her walk towards the kitchen, her steps quiet but hurried as the skirt of her deep blue dress billows around her thighs. She sets the cake on the kitchen counter, hands ready to lift up the lid to see the damage her journey here had done to the cake before she heard it.
Aurora felt her heart sink, pressure building in her sternum as the sound she heard repeated over and over again, not only in her head but in the apartment.
It sounded like... a woman?
She felt her breath stutter, the quiet moans she heard building in volume as she slipped her heels off and treaded cautiously towards the room she knew to be Jay's. After all, she and Jay had been in there many times.
As she got closer towards the room, her hands trembled as she stumbled, her feet catching on clothes thrown astray. The sight caused her to hesitate, frozen in a stupor as she looked at the articles of clothing which littered the floor.
Shoes, trousers, shirts. Women's clothes.
Aurora screwed up her eyes harshly, her breaths coming out in ragged pants as she tried to control herself, trying to convince herself that she was wrong. That Jay couldn't do anything wrong. He cares about her. He loves her. He said so himself. Her Jay wouldn't do something like this.
She opened her eyes, determination painted her gaze as she continued her path to Jay's room. His door was cracked open, and she held her breath as she peaked through.
Aurora's heart fell to the ground - shattered and broken. She had hoped, and she had prayed that the grunts and pleas - sounds she was so familiar with - were just a trick her paranoia was playing on her.
But looking into Jay's room, there was no denying it.
There sat her boyfriend, on the bed they had made love in, fucking another woman. Jay was leaning against the headboard, his head thrown back in pleasure as his hand gripped the waist of the blonde woman perched on his lap, his knuckles blanched as he ground her hips against his, the motion causing a moan of pleasure to wrench itself from her throat, his name on her lips as she spoke - "fuck, Jay, I'm so close."
The blood had drained from Aurora's face, she knows that voice.
"I know, baby. I'm close, too. God, Hail you feel so good."
Baby?
Tears began to well in Aurora's eyes. Jay calls her baby, and now he's called her too?
This wasn't some one night stand or some mistake. No, Jay cares about Hailey, so much so that he is willing to betray Aurora to have her.
Aurora's throat ached as she held back her sobs, her heart burning in agony as she stepped back quietly from the door. She made her way back to her things and hastily grabbed her box of cake and shoes as she scrambled away from Jay's apartment, running away from the her own nightmare.
She made it to her car, hands shaking as she shut herself in and sobs poured out from her.
Aurora had no one to go to. She didn't know the team as well as Jay, and she hadn't been around Chicago enough to make close friends. Her previous career and her lifestyle made it hard to make friends, much less keep them.
And now, when she needed someone the most, she had no one.
And she had lost the one person she thought she could always go to.
Aurora's eyes were filled with tears, and her heart filled with pain as she drove home. Her hands were shaky on the steering wheel, and she relied on muscle memory to bring her back to the place she felt the most safe in.
The place she had allowed Jay in, the place she was the most vulnerable in. And he ruined it. He ruined her.
Without warning, anger began to bubble in her chest. Anger towards herself for being so naive to believe Jay when he said they were just friends, anger towards Jay for lying to her, for betraying her, anger towards Hailey for being a friend to her only to betray her too.
The anger that built up in her on the drive home festered throughout the night. As Aurora lay in bed, struggling to quieten her mind enough to get some sleep, her eyes burning from all the tears she shed and her throat raw from her screams and cries, she felt her anger morph into dread.
Tomorrow, she would see the man that betrayed her, and the woman she called a friend.
On her nightstand, her phone continued to light up the ceiling as notifications popped up. But Halstead's texts went unanswered.
***
The next morning, Aurora had awoken from a restless sleep, and she instinctively reached for her phone, a ghost of a smile on her face as she looked for the sweet 'good morning' messages her Jay would send her every morning.
Hey baby, you okay? You didn't come back over yesterday.
Aurora felt her smile falter - the most recent text Halstead sent caused the memories of last night to flash past her eyes. The remembrance of his lies and his betrayal once more brings tears to her eyes as they fall, leaving hot trails in their tracks.
Her eyes then fall to a text from Voight - Case. Meet at 9.
It was currently 7:30am, which gave her plenty of time to pull herself together and push away the dread of having to see the two people she trusted most after their betrayal.
She pushed herself out of bed, shuffling towards the bathroom - dear God, she looked a mess. The makeup from last night still painted her face, but her mascara and eyeliner were now smudged and drawn down her cheeks in smeared streaks, and through the smudged-off makeup, the faint lines of the scars she hid could be seen.
And her eyes, they looked sad.
And that realisation made fury bite at her, she looked so pathetic.
God, it was her fault. To let him in so easily, after all she had been through and all she had learnt about men. She had still gone and trusted one with her heart.
Aurora had come across all kinds of men and stood against them undefeated - those who beat their wives and children, those who hurt and raped the innocent, those who killed without fear of consequences and those who tortured with hearts full of glee.
And yet, it was Jay Halstead who broke her. All because she let him in, let him get too close.
Determination set in her gaze once more. She wouldn't let Halstead be the end of her. No, she was stronger than that, better than that.
With that thought in mind, Aurora got ready to face the man she once called her boyfriend and the love of her life.
***
When Aurora stepped into the district, it was obvious to Sargent Platt that something was different.
She looked the same - her hair pinned up in the same sleek ponytail, dressed in the same long sleeve jumper and cargos. But her face was void of emotions, and her eyes looked like they were drowning in them.
Sargent Platt liked Aurora. She was a good kid, and despite all the years she spent around violence and horror in her years undercover, she had managed to keep a pure heart and a joyful soul.
It seemed now that both of those things had been drained out of her.
"Hey, kid. Come here a sec."
"Sorry, Sargent, got a case," Aurora nodded stiffly in Trudy's direction before walking up the steps to the intelligence office.
Sargent?
Aurora has called her boss, even Platt. When she tried to push her friendship with her, Aurora would even call her Trudy, sometimes, in a teasing manner. But she had never been so formal, so devoid of emotion.
Trudy felt worried for the girl, her mind running countless scenarios as she wondered what had made her lose her light in such a short amount of time.
***
When Aurora had made her way up the stairs, the office was already buzzing, her team talking and walking around in circles as they discussed the case on hand - a twelve year old boy had been kidnapped, this was the third case over the last ten days and the other victims had been found dead. Homicide had turned up empty in their investigation, and given how close the last case was to their district, Voight offered to take it off their hands, to which they gladly agreed.
She looked over her colleagues, scanning the room for the one person she was unsure of if she would want to see. But it seems his eyes found her first.
"Babe, there you are," Jay's voice sounded exasperated as he leapt up from his seat at his desk, and just like always, Hailey was hovering over his shoulder.
Usually, the action would cause her to feel slightly annoyed, the feeling being quelled when Jay would hold her hand or kiss her cheek or just say her name.
Now, the sight brought a burst of emotions, all of which she fought down and locked away to face at another time when she was alone and it was safe to be vulnerable.
Halstead made his way to her, his hands cupping her cheeks as he looked at her in concern, "baby, you didn't answer my texts, I was so worried."
Aurora shrugged lightly, her face still blank as she found she had no energy to even fake a smile to him, "I was tired."
No apology, no placation. Because he didn't deserve that.
It seemed that Jay had noticed her lack of reason and apology, too, the concern in his eyes growing as Aurora pushed his hands down gently - "we have a case to work."
She pushed past him and walked to her desk, ignoring the 'hey, Aurora' Hailey had thrown her way, grateful when Voight had chosen that exact moment to step out of his office and brief them.
Unbeknownst to her, Jay continued to eye her in worry. He had already been struggling to fight off the guilt he felt when he stepped out on Aurora and slept with Hailey, but to see her so drawn away and isolated only made that grow. Paranoia ate at his heart, but he knew there could be no way she caught them.
Voight had given them the basics of Aurora's past career as an undercover agent, and Jay knew that if she had caught him and Hailey, they would be working on their murder case right now instead.
What do we think? Do we want a part 2?👀

The Sister Halstead (Part 12)
Tumblr media
Pairings: Hank Voight x Female OC, Will & Jay Halstead x Sister!OC
Note: Guess who's back!
Warning: None
As I suspected, Henry looked slightly miserable standing amongst my father and brothers who have conveniently found a group of my fathers friends to chat up.
“Baby?” I said, garnering his attention.
I could see the relief on his face as he pulled me in for a hug and a kiss on the forehead.
“About time you got here.” He grumbled.
“Is that little charlotte?” A booming voice echoed from behind Hank. I turned around to see the mob of my fathers friends suddenly less interested in their conversation and too focused on me.
“In the flesh, but I’m not so little anymore.” I joked. 5 of my dads old buddies as well as uncle Ward stood gawking.
“My my, have you grown.” One commented super creepily.
Jay looked at him like “The Fuck”.
I had to spend the next 10 minutes catching up with those old timers before the baby got hungry and I demanded we get lunch.
“How was golfing?” My mom asked.
Jay and Henry let out a groan of discontent while Will and my dad started bragging about their swings.
“Let’s just say that I’m a better cop than a golfer.” Jay joked.
“I second that.” Henry agreed.
Everything on the menu seemed to be calling my name at this point but the steak and lobster seemed to be the best.
“Seriously, what is this detox you’re on that you eat steak and lobster?” Jay grumbled.
“It’s a girl thing, you would get it.” I told him, refusing the alcohol that got sent to the table by my dads friends.
“You’re not drinking again? Good, you’ll be DD.” My mom joked.
Lunch went by relatively easily with me stuffing my face and stealing off of Henry and Jay’s plates.
“So Henry, tell me about yourself.” My mom started.
I glanced over, seeing if he would be comfortable answering the question and watching him down his scotch.
“There’s not much to me ma’am. I spend most of my time being a cop and loving your daughter.” He joked, trying to coast past the subject.
“Do you have any kids?” She asked persistently. I glared at my mother because she already knew the answer to that.
“My son Justin passed away.” He replied quietly.
I gently grabbed his hand under the table as will successfully changed the subject.
“You have to tell us what Charlie was like as a kid.” He gushed, engaging both of my parents.
“Charlie was her fathers shadow! There’s nothing Charles did that she wasn’t right behind him or attached to his leg. I swear this girl got everything she ever wanted because she batted her eyes and said please.” My mom laughed.
“I was her favorite until she got over cooties and all the boys came knocking on our door.” My dad added. We spiraled into old boyfriend stories and bad prom nights before someone approached our table.
“Lottie?” A voice asked.
I turned to the side to an ex-boyfriend, one I particularly am not fond of.
“Oh fuck no.” I swore, trying to shoo him away before my mom scolded me for being rude.
“Daemon, how good to see you!” She beamed, getting up to pull him into a hug.
I slowly retreated into Henry’s side as Jay moved closer to us.
“Aren’t you going to say hi?” My dad asked, moving to shake my ex’s hand.
“Daemon.” I scowled, making no effort to move.
“Good to see you Lottie, it’s been a while. You haven’t been around much.” He smiled.
I debated throwing my steak knife at his face but decided better of it.
“No reason to come back.”
That earned me a glare from my mother.
“Who’s this guy?” Jay whispered at me.
“Cheating ex-boyfriend.” I whispered back.
“Whose these guys?” Daemon asked, eyeing the whispering.
“Brother, brother, boyfriend.” I carelessly pointed out. This man was not worth any of my energy.
“Brothers? You never told me you had brothers.” He asked.
“Surprise.”
“Are you in town long? I’d love to catch up.” He tried.
“I don’t associate with cheating ex’s but it was interesting to see you. I hope we never have this experience again.” I smiled, flipping him off before leaning my back to Henry’s shoulder.
“You cheated on my daughter?” My dad gasped, seemingly not knowing this information.
“Um, I should go.” Daemon back pedaled.
“You should run.” Jay smirked.
“Want me to kill him?” Henry whispered to me.
“He’s not worth it.” I smiled, giving him a soft kiss.
I could hear Will and Jay gaging at the table.
“Still not used to that.” Jay mumbled.
“How is it Jay? Your sister dating your boss.” My dad asked, trying to gauge a reaction.
“Don’t love it but I try to ignore it since Charlie’s happy.” He replied.
“Here here.” Will agreed, raising his drink.
“I think it’s cute. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Charlie in love.” My mom commented.
“Mom.” I whined like a little girl.
“Just saying.”
We ended up escaping the country club in favor of lounging my the pool that afternoon. It was hilarious to see Jay and Will on top of flamingo and unicorn inflatables. It was even funnier to see Henry in swim shorts with palm trees.
“Really honey? This is what you packed?” he complained as he approached me.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw my mom subtly checking him out.
“Mother!” I scolded, hitting her with my book.
“Sorry sweetie, he was in my line of site!” She defended, cracking up laughing.
“Leave room for jesus you two!” Will called from the pull.
“Shut up carrot top.” I yelled back.
“You have the same hair dummy.” Jay reminded.
“See sweetie, this is what it would have been like 24/7 if you grew up with brothers. You should be lucky you got a break before this.” My dad commented.
“She loves us. I don’t think she could live without us at this point.” Will laughed.
“And I don’t plan on it!”
I ended up getting really tired and turning into Henry's side. He’s gotten into the habit of holding my stomach while we sleep and today was no exception. I personally thought it was adorable.
When everyone thought I was asleep, that’s when the real questioning started.
“How did you meet our dad.” Jay asked my mom.
“At a bar. I was barely 21 and about to leave Chicago for college when I stumbled upon your father. I figured why not be a little wild just this once and let loose. I found out 3 months into the semester that I was pregnant with Charlie and tracked your dad down planning to at least let him know but when I got to the house, I saw the two of you running around the back yard and him watching you two from the porch. I knew then that I didn’t want to hurt anyone so I left and never looked back.” I heard her confess.
“If it makes you feel better, he wasn’t a good dad. Charlie was lucky to have grown up with you guys.” Jay lamented.
“I heard he passed, my condolences.” My mom offered.
“Thanks.” Will accepted.
“We know it’s no consolation but we’re really glad Charlie found you guys. We encouraged her to reach out as soon as the PI gave her your information. We also appreciate you two, really the three of you taking care of our little girl. You guys are her family which make you our family.” My dad explained.
“We love that girl. I didn’t realize I needed a sister until her and it’s like she’s been apart of our lives the whole time.”
“That’s because the two of you make me look adopted.” Jay snorted.
“It’s the hair, what can I say?” Will snorted.
I found myself tearing up at their little confessional and Henry could feel my tears on his chest.
“Are you okay?” He asked me.
“Damn hormones.” I confessed.
He nodded understandingly before kissing my forehead.
“And you Henry? Is this for the long run?”
“It is. I could see us being happy together for a very long time.” He smiled.
Before we parted the pool, getting ready to clean up for dinner I pulled Henry aside.
“I want to tell them.”

The date is October 24th, 2012 and Cassie couldn’t have asked for an easier shift. 2 hours away from clocking out and absolutely no calls.
Cassie basically held a knife to everyone’s throats once they got halfway through shift. She couldn’t have anyone jinxing them. Not this late in the game. Threatening them one last time before she decided to turn in, she made sure to get extra comfortable.
But all good things must come to an end. Sleeping like a baby in the bunk room, Cassie gets woken up by the call alarm. Just her luck.
Jumping up in a rush, Cassie sleepily shoved her boots on and ran her hand through her hair.
As Cassie ran out to the apparatus floor, she heard an asortmant of sarcastic remarks towards the candidate. Of course he was the jinx.
“Nice goin!” , “Thanks a lot, Candidate.” , “Great job bud!” Most of Truck 81 said as they were gearing up.
“I knew I shouldn’t have fallen asleep.” Cassie said tying her hair back into a low pony before putting the rig in drive.
“Hey, at least you get to test out your new paramedic certification!” Gabby cheered enthusiastically.
“Yeah, yeah, but you’re still my PIC and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.”
“Oh my heart!” Dawson playfully adds as they pull up to the scene.
Analyzing the car wreck in front of them, the girls jump out of the rig and into action.
“This isn’t going to be good,” Cassie says quietly to Gabby as they wheel the gurney to the worse car.
“Happy Birthday.” Gabby mutters back making Cassie’s heart drop. Immediately recognizing the car that’s better off, Cassidy begins cussing under her breath before directing her attention back to the people in need.
“61 to main, we’re gonna need another ambulance.” Cassie calls into her radio once they arrive at the car that’s currently upside down.
After a lot of hardwork, and multiple scares, Cassie and Gabby finally get one of the more stable victims to the ambulance.
“Hey Dawson?” Cassie asked anxiously after shutting the door.
“What’s up? We gotta go-”
“My brother was in the accident. I’m gonna guess he was driving the other car, would you be able to take this one back to the hospital? I really need to see him Gabby. I can catch a ride with truck or squad when we’re done-”
“Go.”
“Thank you. So much.” Cassie says running towards the other car she saw her brother step out of.
“What the hell happened!?” Cassie yells shooing off the officer currently trying to talk to him.
“Ma’am, we need to-” The officer tries to butt in,
“Back off!” Cassie yells earning a stern look.
“3 minutes.” The officer says warningly.
Taking a step closer to Justin, Cassidy pulls his shoulder so he’s fulling facing her. Immediately catching the stench of alcohol on Justin’s breath, she freezes.
“Justin!” She whisper yells finally getting eye contact from his end.
“What?” He asks through gritted teeth.
“What the hell happened?” She asks again hitting his shoulder.
“Just- Get out of here! I d-don’t need you, and you’re s-stupid pep talks right now.” He slurs belligerently.
“You’ve been 21 for two weeks Justin. Two weeks, and you can’t even drive sober on my birthday!? What if you were the one half-dead, hanging upside down over there, hm? You think-” Cassie stops talking at the swift thwap ringing through her ears.
Feeling her hands now on the ground, she registers the stinging metallic taste in her mouth. After a few seconds of gathering her thoughts, Cassidy stands up straight. Touching her bottom lip and looking at her fingers, she realizes she’s the one bleeding. Blinking a few times, Cassie looks back at Justin who’s face is truly blank. Unreadible.
He hit her. He fucking back handed her. Cassie looks down at the class ring on Justin’s right middle finger, now laced in blood. Chuckling a little at his audacity, Cassie turns around slowly because she can’t look him in the face right now.
It all happened so much faster than the slap. She didn’t even feel herself wind up, but she did feel the connection of her fist with Justin’s nose, Justin who is now knocked on his ass. Solely because he’s drunk and doesn’t have much balance. Stopping at the 180 mark that Cassie threw her body in, she goes back around bending over holding her fist.
Looking slowly at her hand that is now purple and swollen Cassie lets out a slow hiss. Probably broken.
“Hey Lady! What the hell!” The officer from before says picking Justin up and walking him over to a nearby bench.
“Cassidy!” She heard an all too familiar voice call out. Too busy nursing her hand to truly turn around and give him the time of day she settles for rolling her eyes.
“Cassidy Jordan!” The voice calls out again, but this time closer and still approaching.
Finally standing up and looking at her father, Cassidy frowns once she meets his eyes.
“What the hell is going on!” His raspy voice yells, making her slightly wince.
“Over here. Now.” He says more quiet this time and walking away. Mindlessly following him Cassie begins walking.
Expectantly looking at Cassidy once they’re in a more private location, Voight eventually scoffs.
Still giving no reaction Cassie frowns at the ground.
“Don’t give me that.” Voight says pointing a finger at her.
“I didn’t even do anything!”
“Right, and your busted lip and probably broken hand lives up to that huh?” He asks with a raised brow.
“Justin is drunk off his ass and caused a car accident, yet you’re over here scolding me for retaliating in self-defense?” Cassie asks trying to turn this around of her father, unsuccessfully.
“I know what Justin is, but you know better. What were you doing over there anyway, didn’t your partner leave?”
“Yeah. But I wanted to check on him at least. He’s a screw-up but he’s my brother that’s a screw-up.” She says crossing her arms and looking away.
“Look. I know this is not the most ideal way to spend your birthday, I get that-”
“Do you though? Do you get that? Because for all we know, this could’ve been reversed and Justin’s car could’ve been the one hanging upside down off a pillar.” She says back at her father.
“Yes. I do know. I will handle it, Cassie.” Voight says unconvincingly at his daughter.
“He fucked up. He’s been 21 for two weeks and this would be considered what? His fourth or fifth DUI? He’s been on this road since he was 15! But this time don’t forget the possible vehicular manslaughter if either of those victims die!” Cassidy finally screams at her father.
“You need to stop.” He says looking around at all of the eyes on you guys, despite being in a private location.
“You need to do something about this, or I will.” Cassie threatens.
“What do you mean, you will?”
“I’m working this scene Dad. I have to make an incident report. You need to let the cops take him in now, or I will say everything that needs to be said in that report. Your choice.”
“Cassidy, you will do no such thing. Do you understand me?”
“You need to let him learn! You can’t be there everytime he screws up to save his ass! He isn’t going to change knowing Daddy’s going to bail him out everytime he gets in trouble. We both know it, so help him.” Cassie finally scolds leaving Voight speechless. It’s not often his daughter talks to him this way.
As Cassie starts to walk away, her father’s voice stops her once again.
“Don’t do anything Cassidy. I mean it. I’ll take care of it.”
Pausing in her steps at his words, she lets them sink in until she keeps walking.
Finding lieutenant Casey to ask him for a ride, she stops behind him and the cop from earlier.
“Look. Detective Voight, behind me - the guy in the jacket. That was his son driving the car.” Cassie overhears the cop tell Casey.
“Voight? Like Cassidy Voight?” Matt asks not knowing you’re behind them.
“Yep. Can’t tell you how many incidents that detectives gotten his kids out of.” The cop now says walking away making Cassie roll her eyes. The only thing Hank Voight has bailed Cassie out of was shoplifting a chapstick in the 6th grade.
“Hey, Lieutentant Casey? Can I catch a ride with 81?” Cassie asks startling Matt out of his transe.
“Where’s Dawson?” He asks now walking away from the car and Cassie.
Quickly following behind, Cassie catches up to him.
“Um, she took one of the crash victims to the hospital. I stayed behind.” She says not disclosing anymore information.
“Hop in.” He says once they reach the truck.
A few days later Cassie still hadn’t heard from her father or her brother, and at this point she didn’t know what to do. Once she got to the firehouse though, she needed to figure it out.
“Voight, Casey, my office now.” Chief Boden said causing the pair to briefly glance at each other before following Boden into his office.
“I don’t have either of your incident reports from the crash last shift. Is there something I need to know?” He asks causing them to glance at each other again.
Before either of them were able to say anything he pointed to his desk, “Get it done. You have until the end of shift.” When Boden glances away from them, Cassie takes this as her chance to leave.
“Cassie, wait up.” Casey said calling after her.
Cassie finally stopped in front of Casey’s room and waited for him to lead the way.
“Okay, you need to explain,” Matt started as Cassie stared at her shoes.
“I don’t know what to do.” Cassie finally whispers, voice slightly breaking.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, I love my brother and my father, don’t get me wrong. They’ve been my only family my whole life. Especially since my mom died 10 years ago, but I can’t help but feel so guilty for the other family.” Cassie finally breaks. Tears flowing down her face, Matt stood up to give her a hug before she pushed him away and wiped her tears.
“I told my dad that he needed to do something this time. He couldn’t just bail Justin out, Justin needed to learn. I told him that if he doesn’t then I will, that I will write the report and submit it as the truth. But he shut me down. I don’t know what he would do if I did, I can’t do it, Matt.” Cassie finally says looking up at him.
“Cassie, yes you can. If we both tell the truth in those reports then that family can finally get justice.” Matt said sitting back down at his desk looking up at Cassie.
Taking a few seconds to let his words sink in. Cassie realized she can’t betray her family like that.
“No, Matt, I can’t. I want nothing more than to bring justice to that family I really do. But I can’t be the reason my family breaks. Call me selfish, but I can’t bear the pain of being shunned by the only two people I have left. I’m sorry Matt.” Cassie finally says leaving him speechless. Then leaving his room.
A little while later, Cassie went to go talk to Boden. To tell him the truth and maybe ask for a little advice as to what to do. But to her surprise when she came to his office. She found Detective Antonio Dawson, Matt Casey, and Boden all having a little chat. Knocking on Boden’s door, he glanced at the Lieutenant and Detective before waving her to come in.
“Cassie,” He started but was quickly interrupted by her.
“Chief, I want you to know I’m on your side. I know what kind of things my father has done to bail my brother out of his idiotic mistakes, and I don’t support it. But you guys sitting here and gossiping about my family is a new low. If you guys are planning something, I at least need to know.”
“Why? So you can turn around and tell him everything?” Antonio speaks up earning a glare from Cassie.
“No. So I can help you guys do it right.”
“And why don’t you help? You know what really happened so report it.” Boden says making Cassie glance back at him.
“Look, call me selfish, but they’re my family. My only family. I can’t in good conscious turn my brother in and have my father hate me, but I can’t in good conscious let that family suffer from my brother’s wrong doings. Let me help you guys. That way justice is being brought for that family, and my brother finally gets punished for his actions. But not because of me.” Cassie finally says crossing her arms over her chest.
“Alright, well a buddy of mine who works out of Voight’s precinct said nothing’s come up in witness statements.” Antonio says
“So you’re trying to tell me no one else saw his kid drunk.” Boden adds making Cassie bite her lip anxiously.
“Hell yes, other people saw his kid drunk. But they were other cops who weren’t about to go up against Voight.” Antonio
Still listening Cassie opts to pace in the open part of Boden’s office. It’s what she does when she’s thinking.
“Well I would rather my guy not be the only one with his head above the foxhole on this one.” Boden says to which everyone agrees with.
“Look, and I’m not proud to admit this, but if Gabby were in your shoes for this one. I would tell her to stay out of it.” Antonio says now looking at Cassie.
“The passenger in the other car isn’t going to walk again.” Matt speaks up with news Cassie hadn’t even heard yet.
“Antonio’s right. Going against my father is a death wish. But it needs to happen. Justin is…Justin is sick. He needs help. I think this might be the only wake up call he’ll be able to have.” Cassie finally admits making herself tear up again.
At that a call for Ambulance 61 had Cassie rushing out of the room with an anxious feeling eating her from the inside out.
“Greg Duffy? I guess he was in a car accident the other day that you guys responded to?” Nicki comes in and announces to everyone in the common room. Cassie and Gabby had just gotten back from the call, to which Gabby ignored her for the majority of.
Peaking Cassie’s attention she gets up and follows everyone else out to the apparatus floor.
“Sorry to barge in on you like this, but my wife made this for you guys. We really appreciate what you did. And we know damn well it could’ve been worse If the car had tipped over, so thank you.” Greg says making Cassie’s heart sink as she looked at the beautifully homemade chocolate cake he had in front of him.
“How’s your son?” Matt asks looking over at you then back to Greg.
“Yeah, well…Mikey’s got a tough road ahead of him. But we’re gonna make it. We’re gonna be all right.” He says sorrowly looking down at the fresh cake his wife had baked for them.
“The other reason I came here is, I don’t know if theres anything you guys do in terms of what you saw, or piece together, based on what the accident scene looked like. But, the police report came back saying I ran a red light causing the accident. And uh, that’s, that’s not what happened, and I’m kind of at a loss in terms of how to fight it.”
At Greg’s words, Cassie knew what she had to do. She couldn’t be selfish any longer.
With Casey in Boden’s office they both finished their incident reports with Boden to proofread them after.
“Last paragraph.” Matt said as both him and Cassie hand Boden their papers.
“Visibily drunk. Smelled alcohol on his breath. Saw open containers on the passenger seat,” Boden said looking at Matt then taking Cassie’s paper.
“I can assume it’s around the same thing for you?” He asks to which she quickly nodded.
“Yes sir.”

How Many Detectives Are Needed To Sleep A Baby? || Jay Halstead x reader!
Cute and fluffy Jay, wife and baby + babysitter detectives
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Tumblr media
Summary: Intelligence unit takes care of Jay's newborn baby while he and his wife are in court. Turns out it is the most difficult case they have worked on.
-"You can't go in there". Platt muttered in a scolding tone to Adam, who wanted to go into the coffee room.
-"Why not?" He asked strangely.
-"Shhhhhh". Kim gave him a punch on his arm. -"Keep it quiet, you're gonna wake her up".
-"Ok, alright". Ruzek kept his voice low. -"What the hell is going on, girls?"
-"Halstead's baby is sleeping in there. Don't you dare to interrupt her sweet dreams, bro". Kevin said from his desk.
-"Look at her. You can see her smile even from here". Hailey said, peeking through the window.
Trudy and Kim followed her.
-"She's so lucky she didn't get her father's mad face". The Sergeant enquired.
-"What do you think she's dreaming about? She looks so peaceful".
-"What's going on? Where's Jay? Where's her mom? What is she doing here all alone?" Adam was losing it, increasing his voice volume once more.
-"She's not alone. We're taking care of her!". Hailey frowned.
-"Adam, please". Voigh silently got out of his office and rushed towards him whispering. -"Would you keep it down? I can hear your voice even with my door closed. Let the baby rest, she's only weeks old and already has seen too much".
The detective opened his arms in a defeated gesture. He had just arrived and didn't understand anything.
-"Y/N is testifying right now, we couldn't avoid it. She and her colleagues published the investigation under their names, so...I couldn't stop it. Jay is by her side. The baby is here for protection".
-"She really is a hell of a journalist". Upton mentioned with admiration.
-"And a very brave woman. We owe her a lot in this case". Hank stated.
-"You know? You would have known about this if you had arrived in time to work". Burgess teases Adam.
-"Is there any news about the trial?" Platt wanted to know, worried about you.
-"Not yet, but Jay said he'll be in touch". The boss stated. -"You know these trials take time".
They weren't conscious about it, but the whole Intelligence squad looked hilarious talking with whispers and walking in tiptoes as they went back to their workplaces.
Time passed and the girl was still sleeping safe and sound, until Adam decided to stand up to stretch a bit and stumbled with some cables on the floor. Naturally, the clatter woke up the little baby.
-"It had to be you, right?" Kim mocked her husband as she helped him stand up.
Hailey and Kevin ran to the coffee room as if they were running a race. It was him who got there first and held the baby girl.
-"There, there. Uncle Kev is right here". He tried to reassure her. -"I had siblings and took care of them when they were babies. I can manage another one".
But after a few minutes, she was still uncontrollable.
-"Ok, it's my turn". Burgess got into the game and took the baby off his partner's arms. -"I'm the only mom here, the only one who has a real daughter. I know how to do it".
-"What are you talking about?" Trudy Platt laughed. -"Makayla was already a grown up when you adopted her!" And she grabbed the baby to accommodate her in her chest. But the crying did not stop.
-"Oh, no. What are they doing to you, sweetie?" Upton grabbed her and laid her in her arms. -"I am her godmother, she knows me better".
The baby Halstead slowed down her crying, but she was still restless.
-"Well, how many detectives do you need to sleep a baby, hum? You don't know anything". Hank Voight gasped. -"Give her to me, I'll show you all". But as soon as she was in the arms of the boss, her crying increased. -"Oh. I've lost touch!"
Jay and Y/N were already at the bullpen, waiting in the stairs. They got in time to witness the fluffy scene.
-"Hey, guys? She's not a rag doll, you know?" Jay said laughing at the scene and his friends turned around with surprise. -"She just needs her daddy's arms''. He took his daughter to stroke her and almost immediately she calmed down.
-"That's not fair". Platt crossed her arms.
-"We brought you coffee". You smiled, leaving the box you were carrying on one of the desks. -"There's not enough caffeine when you take care of a newborn. There's one for each of you, just as each of you like it. Look for your name in the tags".
-"Geez, thanks!" Adam said gladly and balanced the table. -"I was denied entrance to the coffee room the whole morning".
-"I'm sorry". You turned red.
-"Don't listen to him". A chorus of detectives said.
-"She's really calm, it was no problem". Kevin asserted and everyone else agreed.
You approached your husband and as soon as you were in your daughter's sight, the baby started to smile and giggle, throwing little kicks into the air.
-"What? Why are you laughing so much, baby?" You raised your hands and freed Jay's arms. -"Come with mommy, sweetie".
Everyone stared at the scene with tenderness, especially Kim, whose eyes started watering.
-"You wanna hold her?"
She just nodded and took the opportunity.
-"How was the trial? Are you alright?" Platt inquiered.
-"Yeah, I mean it was really scary, but I think it went fine". Y/N hands started to shake a little bit, but she was fast enough to hide them in her pockets. Nobody noticed, except for Jay.
-"She did a great job". He hugged you by the waist, trying to secretly ease you.
-"I have no doubt about it, she already showed us how much of a badass she is". Hank smirked.
-"I will just be more comfortable if you stay in here at least until the Jury deliberates, or as soon as I can go home with you. It's just a precaution, I'm not being paranoid or something".
-"Yes, I agree". Voight followed the idea.
-"Sure. Whatever you think is better".
The baby yawned and stretched herself so adorably, that she caught everyone's attention again.
-"I should put her down to sleep".
-"Alright. Take my seat, Y/N. We don't know how much we're staying here". Jay pointed out.
-"C'me on, Kim. Give the baby back to her mommy".
-"If you need help with the baby or you get bored of these people around, I'll be downstairs". The desk Sergeant winked at you and you smiled back at her back.
-"She won't be bored. She has me here". Hailey pulled a face.
-"I'll take provisions just in case the little one takes the coffee room again". Ruzek rushed to the kitchen.
Everyone else rolled their eyes in a funny way.

“Alright listen up everyone!” Hank Voight said coming out of his office and looking at his team that was scattered around the bullpen talking lowly with each other as they worked on paperwork.
“We have a major problem. The Sanfino Crime family has hit Chicago and hit us hard.”
“Sanfino?” Libby Reagan asked pushing her chair away from her desk.
Hank nodded his head and looked at her.
“I know them. Michael was involved with them, he all but sold me to Noble.”
“He did what?” Adam Ruzek asked looking at his friend who nodded her head, “he needed a date, and who better else than the wife of his friend and the daughter of the police commissioner? They thought if they had me under their control then it would be easier not to get in trouble.”
Her husband Jay Halstead shook his head angrily, he had heard all about this when they first got together and it upset him.
Her dead husband had taken advantage of her and even though she was a cop she was powerless to do anything.
“But did it stop?” Alvin asked curiously, she only ever told stories about cases that her brothers or grandfather worked but none of hers.  It was like she wanted to hide it and hide everything that happened with Michael.
“No. Most of them got locked up and the two grandkids fled New York.” She answered as she stood up and tapped her fingers against her thighs, “The one associate of Noble’s almost killed my twin.”
“What else do you know about Noble?”
“He is a druggie, he would do anything for his next hit.”  Libby said as she pulled open the bottom drawer of her desk and pulled out a notebook and handed it to Hank, “I kept information, that I could remember. I kept the notebook, Riker, my partner kept it with his files.”
“Tell them why.”
“I came into work on a Monday morning and someone had gone through my desk. It was Michael. After his first stint in jail, he became more paranoid, jealous, and angry. You name it he was. He didn’t like me working the night shift or working with Riker.”
“How many stents did he do?”
“3. The third one is when he got killed.” Libby answered leaning against Jay’s desk, his fingers catching hers and squeezing them.
“I was at my dad’s house for Sunday dinner and I get this call from the warden telling me that Michael was stabbed and I needed to get down to the hospital. The perks of having the police commissioner as a father we got there at the same time he did. They pronounced him dead after they wheeled him by me.” Libby said using her thumb to move her engagement ring back and forth.
“My family was expecting me to lose control and start crying but I didn’t, I think I was more relieved than anything after everything that he did to me and put me through it was finally over.”
“Did you lose control?” Adam asked.
“Yeah, I finally did after the funeral when my bitch mother-in-law tried to tell me because I started divorce proceedings before Michael was killed that I wasn’t entitled to the life insurance or anything. I flipped.”
“Antonio you remember when Danny was here and he pushed the table into Peter?” Jay asked as he leaned back in his chair. He had been there when that happened and was right there with Danny pulling her away from Marion.  Though they were all just tempted to let the fight go on. Let Libby get out of her system.
“Yeah.” He remembered it all too clearly, he would have done the same thing that the oldest Reagan had done when he found out that Libby had walked into a trap and was almost killed.
“She did that from what Will told me.”
“I threw a drink in her face too. Lucky for her that my brothers were there and pulled me away. I would have started throwing punches.” Libby said.
Carlie Rhodes looked up at Mrs. Halstead and laughed, “And she has a mean left hook.”
“Yes, yes I do.” the former New York Detective said folding her arms under her chest, “So what do you want us to do Sarge?”
Hank looked thoughtful before putting his hands on his hips, “Do you still have contacts within the family?”
Libby nodded her head slowly, “Yeah Bianca, Noble’s sister texts me all the time, she just moved from New Hampshire.”
“Good, reach out to her. Ruzek, Atwater, I want you two with her.” Hank ordered. “Got it, boss,” Adam answered as Libby went over to her desk and pulled her iPhone out of her desk, and turned it on.
This was her old phone and number that she only used from time to time.
It was a reminder of her former life, the life where she was Mrs. O’Malley, the wife of a prominent lawyer who gave her everything and lived a life that on the outside looked happy. But on the inside, it wasn’t.
Michael was controlling, abusive and angry, and Libby who was taught how to defend herself and trust cops her entire life became sad withdrawn, and not even trusting her family who was cops.
She was scared that if she got back into this lifestyle she was going to go back to that. She couldn’t do that not now that she had Jay.
She couldn’t. She wouldn’t.
**
Seeing that Libby was engrossed in her mission of texting Bianca, Jay went over to where Adam and Kevin were at
. “Keep an eye on her.” He said, keeping his voice low so only the two men going undercover with her could hear.
“Course man.” Kevin said glancing over at Libby and then back at Jay, “Was it really that bad?”
“Worse. Ask Carlie or Will they will tell you. Being with Michael wasn’t good for her. She drank heavily, lost a ton of weight, and almost got kicked off of the force.” Jay answered, “I am worried that she will lose control if she gets into deep.”
“We won’t let that happen.” Adam said, “We got her back.”  The former Army Ranger nodded his head before going over to his wife and leaning against her desk.
“You okay?” “I will be okay. Kev and Ruze won’t let anything happen to me. I have too much to lose this time around.” She said softly offering him a smile.
He returned the smile before looking at the screen of the phone that lit up. “Looks like you are to meet Bianca soon.”  “Then we should get ready. It will take me a while to go into Mrs. O’Malley again.”

"Jesus H. Christ on a camel.”
Kate eyed the cabinet full of crystalware cautiously as though all of Hank’s fancy glasses and flutes would spontaneously shatter at their daughter’s constant, high-pitched wailing. Her volume had been steadily increasing for the last twenty minutes and, despite Kate’s valiant attempts to soothe her, Alexis Voight had absolutely zero interest in anything her mother had to offer.
In the first few weeks of being a new mom, Kate had been highly offended every time her newborn would instantly settle in the arms of her father despite having spent hours feeding, changing, rocking and shushing with varying degrees of success. But as much as Kate griped about spending nine months growing this little human only to play second fiddle to the man who had almost missed her damn birth entirely, she’d learned to accept the fact that, sometimes, a girl just needed her daddy.
But it wasn’t as though she could blame her beautiful, squalling bundle. She knew from experience that the world had a habit of melting away the second Hank Voight pulled you tight against his warm chest, the soothing sound of his heartbeat thrumming steadily in your ear made you feel safe, protected, loved.
Kate had never been one of those people; the ones who waxed lyrical about how they fell even deeper in love with their significant other after watching them become a parent. She had always scoffed and rolled her eyes, barely refraining from making some kind of sarcastic comment and it wasn’t until she placed Alexis in Hank’s arms did she finally realise that those people had been absolutely right. The rush of pure, unadulterated love she had felt for him was like nothing she had ever experienced before and watching the two of them continue to bond had become one of her favourite things about becoming a parent.
Despite Alexis inheriting most of Kate’s genetics, her daughter and her fiancé were already like two peas in a pod. Just a few nights ago, she had come home  from dinner with Sam to find Hank reclined on the sofa with Alexis propped upright against his thighs, her innocent squeal of laughter echoing around the living room as he tickled the tiny feet resting on his belly. She had watched on silently from the doorway, her heart swelling to the size of Texas with love for the two people who formed the very epicentre of her universe.
“He’ll be home soon, baby.” Kate shushed, pacing another lap around the coffee table as Alexis continued to howl, her little cheeks red and tear-stained.
Kate breathed a sigh of relief when she heard the sound of keys jangling out in the hallway and Hank appeared in the living room a few seconds later, his brows pinched, visibly wincing at the earsplitting din.
“You can hear her from across the street.” He called over the noise, jerking his thumb towards the large bay window at the front of the house.
“Oh, I’m sure you can…”
On her next rotation around the table, Kate paused to transfer Alexis into Hank’s waiting arms, her little button nose scrunching adorably as she sucked in sharp, heaving breaths in between wails.
“Hey, hey.” He cooed, rubbing gentle circles on her back. “C’mon, no more tears.”
Within seconds of hearing his voice, Alexis had fallen silent, her tense body finally relaxing against Hank’s chest as he tucked her head beneath his chin, running the pad of his thumb repeatedly along her ear.
“And the baby whisperer strikes again.” Kate mumbled after a moment with a wry smile and disbelieving shake of her head. “Who knew you were so talented, huh? It’s like watching Crocodile Dundee do the hand thing with the damn cow.”
Hank lifted an amused eyebrow, a sexy smirk slowly spreading across his face as he shifted his weight from foot to foot, his thumb still running over the baby-soft skin of Alexis’ cheek as her eyes slowly but surely drifted closed.
“It was a water buffalo...and you tryin’na tell me you’re surprised that I’m good with my hands?”
Kate snorted out a laugh, pushing away from the counter and, with Alexis caught between them, she slid a palm over his firm bicep, leaning in to slowly touch her lips against his in a kiss that lingered just a little to long to be considered completely chaste.
“Oh I think I know exactly how competent you are with your hands.”
