mildly rabid ember knight trivia
so i've been compiling a (slightly obsessive) mini wiki to write ember knight fics over the past year or so, since last i checked the fandom wiki page is a little... lacking? (then again, that was like back in december, so it may have improved since then.)
anyway, i figured i'd post some of the more useful bits as a resource in case anyone else is interested ✨
spoilers for both gilgamesh (the prequel) and ember knight, up to episode 80ish? i read the raws (sort of) so pls proceed with caution if you are not keen on that.
General World Notes
mechanics of an apprenticeship
the general populace are just considered citizens of the empire.
up from that is a knight-in-training, who is still considered a citizen. it's not clear to me exactly what this entails, but in gilgamesh, i believe tludia says that she mostly did menial tasks for the knights? and it seems the woodion apprentices were receiving training from fadiyan for this in the beginning.
a selection process is held after this; there are different proctors in different regions. if you pass that, next is knight's apprentice - these people are no longer citizens (ek 5). our delightful protagonist is mucking around in this stage rn.
a typical class seems to focus on training + gaining a good understanding of honor through knighthood lessons
these knighthood lessons seem to be directed by your peers, but the knights do comment on the presentations
noteworthy is that their class (2nd special class) functions differently than most - in anticipation of war with the eastern continent, the second special class is intended to also perform knights' missions while training (ek 8).
it's not too clear yet what happened to the first special class, but its survivors are introduced in ek 70 or so (forgot the exact number sry)
knighthood - "you either try to become worthy of the title, or are given the title because you are worthy" (ek 8)
slightly unrelated and possibly just speculation, but it seems that training the next generation is looked down upon (not sure if this is for all apprenticeships in general, or just for training the knights-in-training).
when tink gets assigned to teaching the knights-in-training, kandentia says "the trainee camp?! are you out of your mind? or did you not recognize his talent? he shouldn't be wasting his talent in a place like that!" - gilgamesh 112
knighthood as an institution
there are two types of knights - order knights and free knights. the five teachers & fadiyan in ember knight are all order knights, meaning they go through rigorous training and are therefore more consistently strong (gilgamesh 20 // i know zius mentions this in ember knight too but i don't have an ep for that).
free knights, on the other hand, are simply given a title - it seems to be bc they're exceptional/for political purposes, but uhhh don't quote me on that...
on honor:
knights are controlled through honor. they can't break their word and can only participate in wars/fights with permission from the emperor. but know that honor has no meaning if no one is watching... (gilgamesh 22). some spicy quotes:
"there is no set standard for honor. it can be different for each person. something that is dishonorable to me may not be to waron." tink, gilgamesh 67
"honor, for a knight, is in some ways more important than their lives. and entrusting it to another is to give up all personal values, even the emperor, and granting them a chance to command with absolute authority." ram, gilgamesh 88
AND GEAS. OH GOD LET'S TALK ABOUT GEAS.
geas is a knight's weakness. it is the method in which the emperor controls knights; knights swear one oath to the emperor, and another is bestowed upon them as a set of conditions that they must follow.
honestly, this isn't really something that has consequences, except for those that knights enforce upon each other after the devil knight.
recently tho there have been reported cases of (usually weak knights) developing supernatural abilities after swearing by their geas. like with narin weapons, it seems understanding how to use this power is instinctual once bestowed. zius's event horizon would be an example of this.
"truth be told, there's no price to pay even if the oath is broken. if anything, i guess there may be something to be gained by keeping it that way. i think the supernatural power of the knight may also have something to do with it" - zius, ek 61
this is also backed by an otherworldly being that intervenes when ram tries to destroy the world - he explains that the world is incomplete, so when things transcend the limits of the world a new rule/law (translations are not very clear on the difference) is established. a knight's strength is considered one of these things that is capped, and then he vagueblogs abt geas (gilgamesh 116)
anyway it's all v sus <3
quotes abt important qualities of a knight:
"never forget. knowledge is mightier than power. only one who knows that... can become a knight." fadiyan, ek 1
"you know you're the strongest here! and that teamwork is vital for knights...!" luzian, ek 1
"facing an opponent you could not defeat... the worst situation possible... you did not succumb. you kept your head held high, and chose to act in a righteous way. that is the true virtue at the basis of knighthood, and the most important skill you can harness." ludika, ek 18
"one cannot become a knight with strength alone. without the ability to persuade, even the strongest knight cannot lead. a knight must have their own sense of justice that is persuasive. to be able to do something on your own, unswayed by outside forces. that is justice. don't mock others for how they think. it's not your way or the highway." - zius, ek 20
world map
there's an official map at the end of gilgamesh 75 and a fan map here, produced by 0l0lmono. some notable locations:
west bridge - where knights fight against demons (the inhabitants of the eastern continent. they're not really demons, just a different race, probably). tink was once assigned here and demoted (gilgamesh 20 & 23), and waron replaced him at some point (gilgamesh 64)
the capital - the knights' stomping grounds. knight accolading is held here.
a note on the timeline between gilgamesh & ember knight
so... we know zius was knighted 5 years ago in ember knight, and that he met & fought with waron a couple months after being knighted.
meanwhile, in gilgamesh 106, when waron fights hinsher, she thinks there should be about 5 people who can beat hinsher, and zius's silhouette is displayed. it's clear she'd already met him at that point, then, and not recently either, since she'd been stationed at west bridge for a while - so ember knight is at most, let's say, 4 years out from the end of gilgamesh.
given the slight time skip at the end in which tludia's hair grows out, i have been informed by a friend that this would take about 2 years, so if we take that to be accurate ember knight is probably only two years after the events of gilgamesh.
(not that this matters too much, but thought i'd put it out there if anyone needs or is keen on constructing a better timeline.)
Factions Crash Course (past & present)
Malto - a religion of sorts (gilgamesh 20). here, knighthood means nothing, and magic power is everything.
lower ranks shave their hair off (gilgamesh 26); they are extremely cult-like and used very coercive tactics to force knights & knights-in-training alike to join their ranks
tludia was in fact expelled by tink to avoid this fate (gilgamesh 103)
they aim to discover and record everything there is to know about magic, starting from the 2nd great mage all the way down to the great immortal (gilgamesh 37)
in truth, the organization was created to protect the existence of magic after the first great mage went down the wrong path (gilgamesh epilogue)
at the end of the events of gilgamesh, malto is dissolved and their research propagated through the world
Oni - an elite group of warriors from the eastern continent. oni training starts at age 7 (gilgamesh 64). their throats are slit so that they cannot talk, and they are not taught to read or write so that their secrets may die with them.
they typically communicate through sign language
they are named after the notch of an arrow. unlike the western continent (where ember knight & gilgamesh take place), they attach onis (knocks) to their arrows rather than carving it into the arrow directly; the replaceable nature of the oni is where their name comes from.
Dragon's Descendants - the masked bandits. zius confirms in one episode (nooot sure which but it's probably late 70s) that they are not actually descended from dragons; it's simply their tribe name.
notable members include liamin and laurun - and, based on the naming scheme and hair/eye color, probably lauzun as well.
they seem to be seeking revenge for the destruction of their village under the knights' sanction. i think six or so years ago (?? don't quote me on this one tho), darang and a couple other knights slaughtered most of their tribe and burned the entire village down.
it's a fascinating parallel to what they have done with nagyunn!
not too clear what their connection with the real najin was, but many fan theories speculate that fadiyan had originally ordered najin to join them as a spy.
five years ago, laurun worked with zius & regia to research zius's geas-induced ability. he mentions that the dragon's descendants have been, for a long time, swearing oaths that granted similar abilities, and that the knights are late to the game (ek 65)
Free Knights - i'm going to take a moment to list them separately as a faction, bc it's clear atp that the free knights have their own agenda. the schism first started, according to darang, back in the war conference abt what to do with tink's body (final ep of gilgamesh), and she blames regia for it.
for his part, regia tells zius to his face that whatever happens, it's the order knights' karma coming for them. i wouldn't be surprised if they're colluding with the dragons' descendants in some way, but it's a little early to say.
Character Notes
age hell
so... we have like. next to no official character age data. here's what we do have from gilgamesh tho!
Tumblr media
waron is placed between hinsher and tink here, but god knows if that means she's between 22 & 31 or if she's been 22 & 531. (also - although it's labeled as ???, after the events of gilgamesh it's probably safe to say that ram is around 2000 years old.)
i'll talk about the knight characters first. here, tludia was a knight-in-training. i'm not sure if tanshirin was a knight's apprentice or a knight-in-training, though she does become a knight post-timeskip at the end of gilgamesh (which would put her at around 23-24 when she was knighted). tink was considered a genius but still young for a knight at age 22.
so we can see that ages can vary for characters. going off vibes alone, i would put the ember knight apprentices as younger than tludia, but probably still in their late teens, so all in the 16-19 range probably.
as for the ember knight teacher knights: it seems to be common to be knighted in your early 20s. ludika, zius, and fadiyan are all from the same apprentice class, so they're probably 27-30, i'd say? waron and darang are almost certainly older, though i'm not sure by how much; going off vibes alone i'd say darang is probably only one or two years older than zius & ludika, but who knows. no idea where to place fidorance because we haven't seen any of his past yet.
finally, i wanted to point out nepherin, the dragon. she's 600 but still a child. it's been hinted at in the raws (ek ep80-82?? somewhere around there) that dragons' development is not chronological, but instead contingent on their understanding of the world; the more they understand about their place as a magical being and the rules of the world, the more mature they will become. since nepherin was raised by an absentee human father, it seems she hasn't developed any of this awareness yet. so the youthfulness says less about dragons than it says about her, i'd say.
strength rankings
or my best guess of it, anyway. masked bandits not included, but they do seem to be better trained than their knights' apprentice peers.
kandentia/event horizon zius
waron
fidorance (probably)
darang
ludika
fadiyan
gatekeepers (senior apprentices)
marsha
paimel/wadrin/nuljin
normal zius/yulnia
other apprentices
nagyunn
random notes on how people refer to one another
take everything here with a grain of salt bc i can barely read the korean alphabet and do not have the best understanding of honorifics/speech patterns.
Fadiyan:
the kids never actually call her fadiyan - instead, they call her knight-nim (기사님)
ludika simply calls her deer/doe (not sure which is more accurate), but can be seen calling her fadi in flashbacks
Ludika:
fadiyan calls her 'crybaby' and ludi theyre gfs fr
the woodion apprentices initially also call her knight-nim, but begin to clarify that as fox-nim after episode 10
zius & fidorance call her fox (no honorifics)
darang calls her ludika (no honorifics) - i think this implies they are closer than the others...? dont at me akefhweewf i didnt watch enough kdramas for this
Darang:
zius & fidorance call her raccoon
Waron:
zius & fidorance: black hen, but have both referred to her as waron to others
ludika: has called her waron to others, not sure what she calls waron by to her face tho
darang: waron-ssi
Fidorance:
waron & zius: wild dog
darang: haven't seen it yet, but probably fidorance-ssi
Zius:
ludika, waron (probably fidorance too): qilin
darang: zius-ssi
Apprentices:
ludika mentally refers to them as 에송이 (stripling, greenhorn, children) and 병아리 (literally "chicks", translated to "little baby chicks")
fidorance also calls them chicks in ek 35, i genuinely do not understand if there is some other implication here
Nagyunn/Najin:
lauzun & nagyunn both address najin as jin-ah (진아) which is supposed to denote affection, i think
it's interesting to note here that while pretending to be najin, nagyunn has always just called him lauzun. ouch.
after ~ep 24, the woodion apprentices (nagyunn included) start calling him jun instead of lauzun tho
najin simply calls nagyunn by name in ep 2&4, but calls him gyunn-ah in flashbacks (ep 3 & 9)
Miscellaneous notes:
tyr & nagyunn both refer to the knights as [animal]-nim (ex: raccoon-nim, qilin-nim), while lauzun & luzian do [name]-nim (ex: waron-nim, fidorance-nim). i've been told this is mostly up to personal preference, and in fact calling them [name]-nim might be more formal??? but i did not get a super clear answer on this.
nagyunn sometimes refers to knights by their full title (color + animal, ex: cerulean qilin zius) rather than [animal]-nim. notably, i've only really seen this in the episodes where he's pretending to be a spy for the skeleton, so that may be related.
zius has called both ludika & fidorance by name when they were arguing (ek 44) - it seems he tends to pull this card during emotionally tense situations?
Bonus: Knighthood Trivia
kandentia became the youngest knight ever at the unprecedented age of 14 (gilgamesh 146)
hinsher was the first female knight (gilgamesh 128)
zius graduated at the bottom of his class (ek 64)
and that's a wrap!

Steal The Show - Jung Hoseok
Tumblr media
Synopsis: He was amazed by her. He knew how hard she'd worked for this moment, so being able to see her do her thing made him feel complete. She outshined the sun.
There was just one thing left he had to do.
Pairing: idol! Jung Hoseok x idol! fem reader
Genre: fluff, tiny bit of angst, friends to lovers
Word Count: 2.8k
——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
"J-hope! J-hope! J-hope!" The sound of cheers made Hoseok's heart shake with excitement. If there's any place he loved the most, it was being on stage.
Hoseok was wearing a pair of baggy jeans, an olive green tee-shirt, a black hoodie, and a black and white bomber jacket. Tonight, he was performing on the street (with J. Cole) for the first time. He was excited to showcase this stage for not just for Army, but for everyone. Especially for you.
You initially met Hoseok when you both were at an all-intensive dance class in New York City. He was shooting a music video, and you were attending university for dance. He was impressed with your dancing abilities, stepping back to watch just you when it wasn't his turn to dance. You moved as if you were made out of water, very fluid yet so in control of your body. He was amazed.
At the end of the lesson, Hoseok asked if you wanted to grab lunch. To be honest, you didn't really hear of BTS before meeting Hoseok. You figured he was your average guy from Queens who loved to dance. However, watching the dance practice videos he showed you at the cafe next door, you were amazed.
You didn't think the K-pop industry was for you though. You originally were trying to make it on Broadway, that's why you decided to attend school in the city. You wanted to network and make connections, wanted to go to auditions when you had free time. The politics involved in the Western music industry turned you off completely.
When JYP announced they were doing auditions across America, you decided to take the jump. It also helped that Hoseok pushed you to just try out.
"I'm not saying I want you to become an idol. I'm not saying I want you to move here to Korea. Even though I'd love living in the same part of the world as you," he said over FaceTime, laughing. "But it doesn't hurt to audition! Worse case, the audition is good experience for the next one you do."
He was right there. You just needed to put yourself out there. You've only done a few casting calls for ensembles, but you wanted a challenge. You wanted to attempt to go for a lead. And to an extent, auditioning for a music company was a challenge. It was out of your wheelhouse, but Hoseok reassured you that the k-pop industry drew people from all over the world from all sorts of backgrounds.
And somehow, you made it past the first audition. You sang "Fast Car" to showcase your singing abilities, even though you come from a dancing background. You were then asked to freestyle a dance, which honestly was the easiest part of the audition. It probably was easy considering you and Hoseok often freestyled with each other over FaceTime when you were in your own respective dance studios.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hoseok?"
He looked over his shoulder, a smile immediately on his face. He knew that voice anywhere.
"Y/n." You were wearing a light blue dress. There was a cutout in the shape of a heart surrounded by silver rhinestones. hugged around your thighs, showing off the white fishnet stocks. You wore a matching pair of white block-heeled boots that stopped short of reaching your knee. Your hair was down in curls, framing your face. You looked divine.
Before he knew it, you walked right up to him and hugged him tightly. He immediately wrapped his arms around you, holding you close to him. He got a smell of your perfume, something that he's grown very fondly over. It smelled like cherries and vanilla. A scent he favored resonated with you.
"I've been looking for you all over," you giggled. His heart swelled at the thought of you searching for him.
"Well know you've found me," he winked. "You ready to go kill it out there?" "And know that you're watching me? Of course."
Hoseok wasn't sure what the line-up was. He only knew that he was geared towards the end of the showcase. He always loved watching what other artists and groups came up with, sometimes making their usual performances extra special. Hoseok also liked being the one to watch smaller acts, giving them a source of encouragement as they were just at the start of their careers.
He also strategically placed himself here, right at the side of the stage, so he could watch you. Not only did he want to watch you perform, but he wanted to be the first and last person you saw before and after being on stage. He wanted to cement himself as your biggest supporter, in more ways than one. "Y/n, five minutes. Let's get you into position," one of the backstage crew announced.
That's how it always goes when it comes to performances like this. It was hectic all over. People were running around, making sure the appropriate stages were in place and artists were ready to go. It was one after the other, no real break until the last performance.
You looked up at him, a slight frown tugging onto your lips. You were hoping to have more time to catch up with Hoseok before taking to the stage.
"Promise to be here when I get back?" "Angel, I'm not going anywhere."
This time, he kissed you on your cheek before moving his lips to your ear. He could feel the eyes on him, not wanting to tell him to hurry up but also getting a bit antsy. Hoseok was a gentleman, so he could be quick.
"I'm always going to be here. Go rock that stage so you can return back to me."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I feel so much lighter like a feather with you out my life With you out my life
The crowd screamed as you were twirled around the stage. If anyone was born to be on stage, it was you. You were smiling wide during the instrumental part of your song, your backup singers the harmonies.
You were done by the stage extender, interacting with your fans. Truth be told, you were surprised people were that responsive to you. You felt like you were at the start of your career, still trying to build a name for yourself. Of course, you took nothing for granted.
Hoseok wasn't surprised. He has seen your rise to fame happen both in person and online. People were captivated by you, but he wanted to make sure you knew he was front of the line.
Right now, you were performing a song you had written to your ex-boyfriend. Hoseok remembered that night so vividly. He had never seen anyone write a song that quickly besides Yoongi. You used all your anger to channel into this particular song. Your ex doubted that you could make it, he didn't see your potential.
But Hoseok did. He knew you were a shining star. You just needed the right support system to boost your confidence and help you pursue you dreams.
And you were blessed to have someone like Hoseok in your life. Not even someone, a man like Hoseok. He made it easy for you to forget your ex boyfriend. He was the one who reassured you, uplifted you, and showed you love. You weren't sure if there was a chance of you two getting together, but you were a wishful thinker.
it feels so good not carin' where you are tonight And it feels so good not pretending to like the wine you like
Your hips were swaying as you strutted back up to the main part of the stage. The crowd went wild for you as you ran your hands through your hair, letting it fall back down to your back.
Once you were center stage, you glanced over your shoulder. You grinned to see Hoseok still to the side of the stage, watching you. You winked at him before looking towards the crowd again.
I slam the door
You kicked up your foot as you were closing the door. You wore a smirk. Here goes nothing. I hit ignore
With your back towards Hoseok, you bent over slightly. The amount of times you ignored texts and calls from your ex were too high too count. You knew one thing for sure though. You would always pickup for Hoseok.
Hoseok's eyes widened as he watched you. That's new. Was that intended for him? Were you responding to what he said to you before you were whisked away to get on stage? He bit his lip gently, a smirk on his lips. He was proud of how far you've come, both in your personal life and professional career. But he couldn't help but feel his ego swore as he thought you were showing off for him.
Well played, y/n.
I'm saying, no, no, no, no more I got you blocked Excited to never talk
You were standing up straight again. You popped your hip slightly. The hand not holding your bedazzled microphone also resting on your hip. You wore a smirk.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The stage lights went dark as you bowed to the crowd. There was a loud roar of cheers, fans begging you to stay. You blew a kiss though before you were escorted off stage. Your mind was in the clouds, overjoyed by the outcome of your performance. That couldn't have gone any better!
There was just one thing left to do to truly make this a night to remember. Someone handed you a water bottle as your chest rose and fell rapidly, your heart racing from the performance and adrenaline rush you were experiencing. You grabbed the water, but kept your eyes locked forward.
From the moment you left the stage, your eyes were locked on Hoseok. You didn't have to go searching for him. He stayed as he promised. He wore a wide smirk as he waited for you, members backstage of the production and your manager checking in with you. "Y/n, we can either stay to watch the rest of the show or head back to the hotel." "I'm staying."
Once you finally were away from the staircase leading to the stage, the crowd around you began to disperse slightly. You passed the water bottle in your hand to your manage before you took off running towards Hoseok.
You weren't thinking straight. All you knew was that you needed to get to him. It was as if something had possessed you because before you knew it, you were jumping into his arms. He caught you easily, the two of you in a fit of laughter. "That was amazing, y/n! You are amazing," he said, grinning. You grinned back at him. Your hands rested on his shoulder as he twirled you around a bit. Everyone around you figured you had a close friendship. A very close one, indeed. But after the exchanges between the two of you, that was going to take a step up. You were sure of it, but just not in the eyes of public.
"Come on, I think we got some talking to do, sweetheart. I got a little bit before going on stage."
Hoseok gently set you back down to your two feet, but had a hand securely on your lower back. People eyed the two of you as you passed by. Artists that you admired, friends, and others congratulated you on a successful stage. All you could do was smile and bow politely, both out of breath but also trying not to stop too long for a conversation. You weren't trying to be rude. You just had other priorities.
His thumb caressed your lower back. You didn't have to question where you were going. You always put all your trust into Hoseok. He has prove time and time again his loyalty and his sincerity towards you. He was a rare find in a world that tended to be more cruel than kind.
After a few moments, mainly with you focusing on the feeling of his touch, you found yourself out of his dressing room. He pushed it open, motioning for you walk through the threshold first.
"Always the gentleman, aren't you, Hobi?"
He chuckled and shrugged, watching as you walked in first. Once he made sure you were safely in the room, he closed the door behind him. He locked in, not wanting to get interrupted again like before.
This time, he let his heart take over rather than his mind. He came up behind you, wrapping his arms around you from behind. You giggled in surprised, letting out a soft gasp as he lifted you up with ease. Wow, he's gotten stronger since the last time you saw him.
Carefully, he had you sit on the counter of the makeup vanity set up. His makeup team from the company already had done the makeup they needed to do earlier. They opt for a more natural look, seeing as this song was personal for Hoseok. And much to your happiness, you got his bare face all to yourself.
Your legs were slightly parted, allowing Hoseok to slip in between them. Biting your lip gently, you gazed up into his eyes. You were trying to cipher what could be going on in his mind. You were getting all the right signals from him to confirm your assumptions, but you wanted to make sure you weren't jumping to conclusions. One of your hands gripped the edge of the counter, the other hand resting on his forearm.
"Y/n, I think I'm done playing games," he murmured. One of his hands rested by yours. Not exactly touching, but your want to feel his skin on yours burned within you. His other hand lifted up to brush the hair out of your face. He tucked a few strands of your hair behind your ear. His hand then gently rested on your cheek.
The confidence you had on stage melted away. You could feel your body warm up, seeing how close you were and how alone you truly now. The chaos outside was white noise. All your attention was on Hoseok without any interruptions. He smirked seeing the shy side of yourself starting to appear once again.
He loved witnessing all the sides of you. While yes, you two were prominent in each other's lives, he wanted to learn more about you.
"I'm not sure I know what you're talking about," you said softly.
He scoffed. "Really? You don't remember that little stunt you pulled on stage? Come on, darling, you trying to tell me something?" "But what about you, Hoseok? What was that you told me earlier?"
He hummed, nodding his head. "That's the games I'm talking about. Why don't we cut to the chase, huh? Stop torturing ourselves?"
This time, you nodded in agreement. You were onboard to full send, to take this friendship into uncharted territory for the two of you. Yes, it was scary to take this friendship into a level that most friends don't go. However, if Hoseok was willing, so were you.
Wanting to take back a bit of control of the situation, you slightly tilted your head. Your lips hovered right underneath his. His breathing seemed to hitch, which caused you to smirk.
Look who is now turning soft.
Truthfully, you made him weak and he thrived off being your weakness. It was as if subconsciously you two always knew you had feelings for each other. Yet, for the sake of the friendship, you oppressed any feelings you had. You were at the point now that you were boiling over and it was all seeping out. Everyone else saw how you two stared at each other with hearts in your eyes. You both were just catching up to speed.
"How do you propose we stop torturing ourselves, huh? Tell me, Hobi. What's been on your mind?" "You're the only thing ever on my mind, y/n," he murmured.
The way his voice dropped an octave made you want to whimper. You felt small with him towering over you. He knew the little things to do to make you weak in the knees.
"I'd just like it if you no longer live in my fantasies and were actually mine. That way I can make every thought I have into a legitimate plan with you." "Then make it happen."
Hoseok's eyebrow raised yet he was intrigued. His hands moved to your hips, pulling you slightly closer to him until you sat right at the edge of the counter. Your legs wrapped around his waist, keeping him close to your as well.
He began lean in, his lips grazing yours. You both sighed in contact. So close yet not quite there.
Before his lips could fully press against yours, there was a knock at the door. "J-hope, 5 minutes!" Dammit! He smirked as he pulled away while your frowned, disappointed to not get to kiss him quite yet. You raised an eyebrow, surprised to see him not more disappointed. "All good things come with time. Just had to get one more game in before winning you over. I'll see you after my set."

Note: I originally got inspired from listening to Steal the Show by Lauv. since seeing Elemental a few months ago. I also have been obsessed with Sophia Carpenter's performances of Feather while she's been the opening act for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in South America so my mind got a little creative haha
Hope you enjoyed it!!

I think it's interesting that a lot of the critiques about Ted Lasso s3 are very repetitive (so very repetitive) statements about the show being overstuffed with "unrelated" narratives. I agree that it's an absolutely stuffed season, but I'm cool with it because all the arcs feel deeply related to me and I'm honestly having so much fun with it.
S1 was basically perfect. (I mean, nothing is perfect, but s1 gets close.) Each episode was a tightly-edited morsel that felt like something new and wondrous. It had to be an amazing first impression, otherwise it wouldn't have gone anywhere. Then s2 was about isolation and bad choices and the hauntings of past pain rising up, crossing the distance of an ocean or the distance of thirty years to hurt you again, and it was good but deeply imperfect. At times, some of the pain even felt rushed, while some of the episodes dragged, and I say that as a person who enjoyed s2 more than many!
S3 feels like my senior year of college (which, holy fuck, was 15 years ago).
My senior year was very fun and very sad. I ate so much pizza! I went to so many dance parties! I sometimes drank too much and I sometimes thought about adulthood and health and who I wanted to be in the world and stayed sober(er) to care for people having a harder time than I was. I took too many classes and worked really hard. I started a relationship that would overstay its welcome in my life because I didn't know how to be true to myself yet. In other ways, I was true to myself. I wrote the story of what was happening over and over and over.
TL s3 has this meta-awareness of coming to an end, of questioning WHERE Ted should be at the end of the story, and not only Ted, but everyone. All those people who got stranded in their own stories in s2 are finding their way again, and maybe it is messy and self-indulgent and taking a little too long, but tbh if I got the opportunity to tell a story this way I'm pretty sure I'd end up doing the same thing. There's a reason the exact halfway point of the season saw the majority of the cast reconnecting on a bus after spending wildly variant nights.
S1 was perfection and s2 was often great and often YIKES and s3 is like a long, magical night in which you're aware (self-indulgently aware, yes, but there are worse things to be) of the journey ahead but perfectly suspended in the moment.

AYYYY UNDERRATED VARPUNEN FAM TIME LESGOOO. I'm thinking I'll try to say one positive and one negative but I won't force it if it stalls me
P - Negative: See she was born into a warrior family (aka she's the beast variety of demon), which in itself was just not the right lifestyle for her personally. Real stressful. I could pick probably multiple experiences from here but let's highlight the string of clashes between a Plague from those days who ended up killing and injuring several beasts. There are still two living Villagers that bear the scars from this time. P, however, bears the mental scars of having one or her co apprentices and teachers murdered. She has survivors guilt and various other kinds of guilt from this and suffered a bad freeze reaction that has stayed with her for a while.. The victims weren't even super close to her, but it was the sheer horror of the fact that anyone could just die (and in her mind, it'd be her fault bc she failed to help them).
As a bonus, btw, the plague involved in these events is dead nowadays. Please, do take a guess as to how.
Positive: One time, P and Nan were left home alone together for roughly a week, and since P mostly didn't interact with Nan aside from what she deemed necessary, things got quiet and awkward for a bit.. P was honestly scared, bc she had the fear that this was some kind of test from their husband - one she could fail miserably, somehow, so she remained on her tiptoes the whole time. He said he'd be off on a business trip and as the author I can verify this is actually true, and it wasn't a test, but unfortunately Ps mental state was... Not good. Thanks to him. A few days in, Nan approaches P carefully and tells her that it's okay if she doesn't know what to say, and if she needs her alone time. But if she did want to hang out, or talk, or anything, Nan would be here listening, no pressure to come up with anything special. See Nan had thought that the avoidance had more to do with Ps social anxiety and being a very withdrawn person, rather than paranoia over their husband. Although I won't deny she had a hunch..
Either way, this left a very positive impression on P, and she found some kind of strength in the fact that maybe, just maybe, if things get bad enough, she can lean on Nan. That, and she decided then and there to try her best to treat nan better and try to approach her on her terms. It didn't end up happening too much (not enough in her eyes), but it did still happen.
Sighs lovingly. P deserves way more attention imo. I did not hold back from rambling. Anyways!
Pesticinger - Negative: (TW TORTURE FEEL FREE TO SKIP) So it's widely known she's unpopular amongst humans for obvious reasons, so they often plot various things to get back at her, and often try to even capture or kill it. So there's this waterfall. A group of humans really want Pesticinger to have her "comeuppance" for what she's put them through. So this waterfall. They've set a trap there, where there's a rope that ties into a noose when released, and it hangs under the rushing water. Pesticinger is lured into this trap, and here's the situation: she's got a noose around her throat, and it tightens the further you pull on it. If she gets swept up by the water's pull, it starts choking her, combined with the water trying to pull her under. So she has to literally constantly fight the water, or she suffocates (either by drowning, or noose). It is not a good time. Her feathers get soaked the hell out so flying becomes difficult, she's quickly exhausted and it's kinda hard to call for help when you're trying to fight suffocation. She was rescued, of course. Poor bird. But she can barely even look at a noose, and the noise of waterfalls gives her anxiety. So do ropes, if they're put anywhere near her body.
This next memory I'm not sure if I'd label it necessarily either strictly positive or negative but it was very impactful for her. See Pesticinger has the mental capacity to get really, really introspective and existential, but the way her brain works, also sometimes leads it to tie itself into knots and leads her down dead ends she can't think herself out of. So it can definitely overwhelm itself by overthinking. When she was still very young, in one of these cases, she came to speak to her creator henself; the Mistress. It asked many panicked, disjointed questions, trying to untangle it's mind, and getting distressed, it started knocking at it's head with it's foot. The Mistress, gently, places hens hand on Pesticingers face to block the hits, and they share silent eye contact for a moment.
"Dear bird.. You don't have to know all the answers. You might, someday, but you don't need to. You are more than just a bird, or a beast; you are a force of nature. Even still, you can be as ordinary as you want. Just don't forget yourself."
Pesticinger still feels.. Bittersweet, about it. She's frustrated that she didn't get the answers, in fact the denial of them entirely upset her back then. But she can't say it wasn't also comforting. The reason this memory isn't purely positive is mainly due to Pesticingers mindset.
I think I'll cap this post here BUT BEFORE I DO I'll include just a little something from Nan bc. My number one Varpunen fam for sure. It'll be under the cut
I'll be vague bc I was actually writing a whole thing about this and it's still kinda in progress. But.
Something that's really stuck with Nan was when she, at one point, took her kids to see their grandpa, aka Nans father. He knew there were kids, but hadn't met them due to life just sweeping everyone up for a while.
He did not react well to seeing them. Their visit became very short and very uncomfortable. Nan had to have a talk with her father privately, (His name is Yngve Surström, btw) while the kids awkwardly waited outside.
This would become the last time Nan sees her father before he disappeared completely. Nobody knows why. Or how.

you!!! you get it!! yuki's entire existence feels like such a slap to the face for the spvs. shes the only one that escaped n has a ct but she still ended up fighting n dying for tengens sake, despite building up herself from the ground (i dont think the higher ups wouldve rly empathized with her situation, most definitely made it wayy more difficult to deal with, if geto n gojo had such a hard time she prolly got much worse 💀). i wonder what it wouldve been like to hear all the spv xP but alas we can only hope gege remembers this bit....yeah honestly i wish we got more drama out of their interactions n a bit of yukis own childhood instead of choso crying abt his brothers for the nth time 😭 pls tell me more abt the thoughts u have abt those two its always nice to read see ur thoughts (me who has read every single kenjin fic on your ao3 😁😁😁) the tengen situation rly showed who all read the manga n who all just saw the pictures n came up with their on hc for the situation 💀
Thank you for reading my fics <3 it means a lot to me
Well, we don't know if she's the only SPV with a CT, but I'm sure it's why she was able to escape. Riko doesn't seem to have one and that might be one of the reasons why Tengen saw her as an ideal candidate. We don't know about the other two that got merged, but it would make sense for Tengen to choose the ones that would have less means of defending themselves. The Heian one might've had one because that was probably still more of an experimental phase and she might have had less options, unlike now where there are multiple popping up in one generation and she picks the ones with characteristics she likes most and who probably also have a closer match.
So Tengen most likely knew Yuki's CT, but didn't tell the higher-ups, since Kenjaku got their help, but couldn't find it out. They basically promoted her to special grade based on mission results and I assume a good word from Tengen. That might've also helped her break through the glass ceiling of misogyny. As we see with Maki, it really doesn't matter how skilled you are, you can only advance as far as they let you and if you're a woman or they don't like you for some other reason, you're not getting anywhere. But she had her results to show off and what Tengen says goes, so they couldn't protest. It's impressive that she managed to keep her CT and status as former SPV a secret for so long, although the foreign missions definitely helped there.
I'd also like to have a bit more background on Yuki. Did she have the same religious upbringing as Riko? She was likely groomed into a sacrificial mindset too, so what made her be able to resist that? Did Tengen wait too long and teenage hormones ruined it for her? Just natural instincts? She is very rebellious in general after all. How did her first meeting with Tengen go down? So many questions that will likely never get answered. But that also means there is no limit for how we can imagine it all happening.
It's a real shame that Tengen and her intentions and past never really got questioned by anybody besides Kenjaku. Yuki has her complaints, but she ultimately doesn't do anything about them. Gojo suggested at one point to kill Tengen if she wants to force the merger with Riko, but apparently completely forgot about that once Toji came into the picture. He was so close to the root of the problem, but then didn't act on it. Riko would've died anyway, even if Toji wasn't around, just in a different way. And even if they managed to rescue Riko, it would've been some other kid that got sacrificed in her stead.
Mind you, I don't think Gojo could ultimately do anything against Tengen, certainly not at 16. He wouldn't even be able to touch her and she knows the capabilities of six eyes users better than everyone else. But I feel like an effort should have been made. The issue should be addressed. There could've been a lot of interesting stuff between Tengen and him too. After all, she also created him to make him protect her, so if he went against that, that would be a nice source of conflict. But I don't think he knows about his purpose and will likely never find out about it.
Either way, I would've liked more skepticism of Tengen in general. Kenjaku brings up right to Yuki's face that there is something very important about the Culling Game that Tengen has been keeping from them, but nobody fucking listens to them. It's so frustrating. Megumi also brings up that they should maybe not 100% trust Tengen, but nothing comes off it. The kids get so caught up in their plans and the opponents that keep popping up around them, that they forget who put them in this situation in the first place. That's how Tengen likes things to go I guess. Make people just forget about her and that's how she keeps getting away with it. And she relies a lot on the influence she established early on.

For the OC Asks:
Kalarros - 3, 10, 15, 18, 38, 43 and 49!
yeeee thank you for this question deluge (ask meme)
3. What does their safe space look like? honestly just anywhere that contains His People, he likes having them nearby and knowing they're safe (which can sometimes be a tall order given the general way they all live their lives). As far as location goes he's more adaptable than first impressions would suggest. Alternately, he really likes working with fathiers and hanging around the corral where he's currently keeping Asha, because he is first and foremost a shameless horse girl to rival Jean Luc Picard.
10. What kind of jokes make them laugh? Despite the rumor that he has no sense of humor, he has a great appreciation for Vette's brand of snark, even more so because every time they hang out together in public people end up looking at her in abject fear because she has a habit of openly shit talking the Wrath but still hasn't been killed (he doesn't actually kill people for reasons that petty, but he does have a somewhat larger than life reputation and most people aren't willing to chance it).
15. What is the first thing people notice about them? If they're Force sensitive, definitely the fact that he's Alarmingly Strong and very attuned to the Dark Side, he's got the kind of Force presence that tends to take up the whole room. If they're not, probably the eyes because they're pretty hard to ignore and the most blatantly Sith thing about him (or the tattoos, depending on how much time they spend around Sith).
18. Describe your character through a Brooklyn 99 gif or line.
Tumblr media
... also known as the first time he met @darth-bagel's Sylvas, but this is his general vibe with most of the people he's close to.
38. How does your character unwind after a long day? Generally by spending time with a partner, either chatting or doing Other Things, even just hanging out in the same room doing their own stuff will do in a pinch, he just really likes being around people he loves. Sometimes with wine involved depending on how long of a day it was.
Either that or take Asha out for a ride; it's not really the same as racing on Korriban but Odessen does have some very nice trails and he'll take what he can get.
43. What is the DND alignment? I'd have to say probably lawful evil. He's Sith, he actively enjoys battle and killing people, has a penchant for turning weaker Jedi very easily due to his specific skillset, is deeply entwined with the Dark Side, and sees nothing wrong with any of those things. but he was also brought up and trained with a very Old Guard kind of Sith philosophy that was designed for, yknow, a mostly functional society rather than the push-out-as-many-bodies-for-war-fodder-as-possible approach the Academy adopted not long after he left (which I headcanon is where most of the game's Cartoonishly Unhinged Apprentice population came from, that and poorly handled Fallen Jedi, which incidentally he has a lot of opinions about). he also has strong feelings about honor, treats the people close to him with an abundance of love and respect, doesn't purposefully go out of his way to cause suffering, and actively avoids starting shit with people who are unarmed or clearly outmatched by him, so he's got that going for him. still has a lot of atrocities under his belt to be called good or neutral, though. it's not like being a monster and being capable of love and honor are mutually exclusive.
49. What is your character's biggest fear? Most irrational? Biggest is powerlessness, and the potential inability to protect the people he cares about. There are things he either can't overpower on his own or can't fight at all because that's not how they work, and he really doesn't know what to do with that.
Most irrational is harder because he's afraid of very few things that are tangible or not a genuine threat to him, but he does have a lingering perfectionism and fear of not being enough left over from his formative years. he was expected to be the best of the best from an early age because of his strong connection to the Force and his family's reputation, and combined with generally inattentive parents who primarily had a kid as a status symbol, that'll fuck you up a bit.

Room Swap
"Name please," the receptionist asked as you searched through your purse for your ID.
"Y/l/n. It should be a twin room."
"Ah yes, here you are," she turned to the board behind and picked out a key card. You're in room 412."
"Thanks!" you take the key card off of her and return to Becky, who was waiting with your luggage in the lobby.
"Everything all sorted, roomie?" Becky asked, thumbing through a magazine.
"Yeah I can't wait. Ever since you got with Seth we never get to bunk together. It's gonna be like old times!"
"I just hope you're ready for a wild night of stuffing our faces with room service and bingeing bad horror movies," she winked and giggled.
"Ooft sounds like a hot date," you teased her.
"Speaking of hot..." Becky gestured to the lobby entrance where her boyfriend Seth Rollins was bringing in his luggage. He made his way over to you and beamed when he saw Becky.
"Damn, you're beautiful. Can I get your number?" he teased.
"Sorry, I have a boyfriend. He's super buff and macho and could probably kick your ass," she retorted, planting a loving kiss on his cheek. Seth wrapped his arms around her waist as you smiled at how happy you were that your friend found someone who truly loved her.
"Are you sure you wanna spend the night with y/n? I mean I love Finn but we could have a LOT of fun in a room together..." Seth cooed, kissing Beckys neck.
"Hey, Rollins! Stop making moves on my woman. You get every other night with her. Go near her, and I'll chop that dick off!" you threatened playfully.
"Fine, Jeez!" he laughed, "We really need to get you a boyfriend."
You shuddered at the words. You had been secretly seeing someone, but broke it off a couple of weeks ago and you were starting to lose hope of ever finding a decent guy.
"You know, Finn is still single..." Becky prompted.
"Ugh no way!" you retched, "not even if he was the last man on Earth."
"Finn's a great guy! I really don't get why you hate him so much..." Seth shook his head.
"Where do I start? He's cocky and narcissistic, he thinks he's God's gift to women, he's always bragging about how many girls he's been with. Yeah sure, he's hot, but he knows it. Besides, he's a jerk to me whenever we're together."
"Y/n, you haven't even given him a chance. I reckon if you spent some time alone with him, you'd see all the good parts of him!" Seth enthused.
"He wears very tight trunks in the ring, I've already seen WAY more parts of him than I'm comfortable with."
"Aww, y/n, I'm flattered you spend your free time thinking about me in tight trunks!" came an Irish accent from behind you. You groaned internally.
"I wouldn't be... You missed the part where I called you cocky and narcissistic." you jeered, smirking at Finn.
"It's not cocky if you can back it up love," he winked, and you hated yourself for finding him so attractive.
"Right, sure. Guys like you are all talk."
"Oh one night alone with me, and you'd never want to leave," he went to brush a hair from your face, giggling mischievously as you swatted it away. "I could prove it to you tonight if you want."
"Oh my god, why are all the men in my life trying to ruin our night together? Go find some other woman to disappoint, Balor! She's mine tonight," Becky scolded him. "Y/n, we should go to our room before these Jackasses get in the way."
Becky stood up, kissed Seth affectionately and grabbed her luggage. You followed her leave, grabbing your things and saying goodbye to Seth.
"What no goodbye kiss for me?" Finn hollered is you set off towards the elevator, cackling at the middle finger you were now responding with.
When you got to the room, Becky kicked her shoes off and dove onto a bed. You changed into a tank top and some leggings as she looked through the room service menu.
"I'm gonna get some lobster. What do you want?"
"Ooh very fancy. I'll have the same."
You spent the evening pigging out on fancy room service and making fun of terrible movies before eventually feeling too tired to stay awake and nodding off halfway through the second movie.
Just as you'd fallen asleep, you were awoken by a noise. You weren't sure what it was at first, it sounded kind of wet. Then you heard a soft moan coming from the bed next to you and you looked over to see a huge lump under the covers of Beckys bed. Groaning, you turned your bedside lamp on.
"Really guys? I'm trying to sleep here..." you protested.
"Oh shit, sorry y/n. I'll just go." a naked Seth peeked out from under the covers, his hair messy and his voice breathless.
"No, it's fine just... Give me your key card. I'll sleep in your room."
"Really? Sure, it's in my pants. Thanks y/n, you're the best." Seth said, before retreating back under the covers, much to the delight of a giggling Becky.
You hastily retrieved the key card (room 426) from his discarded pants and made your escape.
As you stormed down the hall to where Seth and Finn were staying, you muttered under your breath. You knew that Becky and Seth were a couple, but do they have no boundaries? You arrived at room 426 and knocked on the door. Despite having the key, you didn't want to just barge into the room unannounced.
A shirtless Finn opened the door. He blinked in surprise upon seeing you, before smiling cockily.
"I see you decided to take me up on my offer earlier," he purred, leaning coolly against the doorframe.
"No chance in hell. Seth and Becky are 'getting busy', and as close as we are, I REALLY don't wanna see her O face so... Seth said I could crash here. Sorry to disappoint you," you shoved past, struggling to keep your eyes off of his impressive torso.
"Alright but I should warn you... I sleep naked," Finn beamed at you, amused by the look of horror that crossed your face.
"Whatever just... You stay in your bed, I'll stay in mine and we should get through the night without me beating you to death!" you smiled sweetly back at him.
"Oh come on. I'm just messing with you," he chuckled, grabbing a towel from the wardrobe. "I'm gonna take a shower, TV remote is there. Make yourself at home."
Finn disappeared into the bathroom and shortly after, you heard the gushing of the shower. For a moment, you imagined the water cascading down Finn's abs and trickling down his body. Disgusted with yourself for imagining such things, you shook the thought from your mind and turned on the TV.
Eventually, Finn emerged from the shower, and you were surprised to see him wearing a pair of shorts and a vest. You stared at him for a moment, still confused.
"Is there a problem?" he asks, snapping you out of your stupor.
"No! Not at all... You're just such a playboy, I'm surprised you're wearing actual clothes and not a towel that's far too small for you," you challenged him, secretly disappointed by the reality.
"Contrary to what you might think about me, I'm not a sex pest. I may be cocky and full of myself, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to make you uncomfortable." annoyed, Finn collapsed into his bed, refusing to make eye contact with you.
"Finn... I'm sorry. I'm being a jerk. Honestly, thanks for letting me stay here. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?"
"Well... You can buy me pizza. I like pepperoni and stuffed crust please!" He grinned cheekily and you couldn't help but smile back at him.
"Pizza, for Mr Abs? What about all those carbs?" you teased him, picking up the menu from the desk.
"Well, you really upset me and now I'm eating my feelings," Finn pouted adorably at you, giggling when you threw a pillow at him.
You and Finn went back and forth teasing each other until the pizza arrived, when Finn jumped up excitedly and rushed to the door to collect it.
"Wanna watch a movie?" Finn asked, sitting at the end of his bed and tucking into his Pizza.
"Sure," you started flicking through the movie channels. "Oooh, Toy Story!"
You lay back, occasionally eyeing up Finns pizza. Your stomach gave you away and let out a thunderous growl, as you held a pillow over it, trying to muffle the sound.
"Do you want some?" Finn tempted you, patting an empty space on the bed next to him. Nodding enthusiastically, you accepted the invitation and grabbed a slice.
The room fell quiet apart from the sound of you and Finn happily tucking in to the pizza.
"So are you feeling any better?" Finn asked, grabbing another slice.
"Better? What do you mean?"
"Well you seemed angry earlier. It must be frustrating never getting to see Becky," Finn prompted, giving you a look of genuine sympathy. You were surprised that he had picked up on it. You usually had a bad attitude around him anyway, so it was impressive that he could tell you were more upset than usual.
"I was at first, but I get it. They're a couple, they wanna spend time together. If I had a boyfriend, I'd be the same, " you confessed.
"So what happened with that guy you were seeing?" Finn asked, the hint of a smile on his lips.
"Oh that didn't go anywhere. Wait, how did you know about that?"
"Oh... I guess... Becky might have mentioned it..." Finn stammered, unusually flustered.
"Becky didn't know..." you eyed him suspiciously. Finn paused, thinking for a moment before sighing.
"OK fine..." he shuffled nervously. "A couple of weeks ago, I was outside your locker room and I heard you on the phone to him."
"And why exactly were you lurking outside my locker room, Mr Balor?" you teased him, amused by this vulnerable version of Finn.
"Well, I was planning on asking you to dinner," he quickly reverted back to his usual, charismatic self.
Speechless and somewhat embarrassed, you grabbed another slice of pizza and continued watching the movie. You're cheeks felt hot, and you could still feel Finns eyes on you. But even so, you couldn't help but feel surprised by how comfortable you were around Finn.
After several minutes, you dared to glance back at him. The glance escalated, and soon you found yourself examining his features in great detail. He really was incredibly attractive. Your attention moved from his dark hair towards his mesmerising blue eyes, twinkling with delight as he watched the movie, down his strong cheekbones to where an adorable, boyish smile perfectly complimented the rest of his face. As he turned towards you and caught you staring, every instinct told you to avert your eyes, but you just couldn't.
His eyes locked onto yours, holding your gaze as you felt your heart rate increasing. He smirked, pleased with himself for having caught you staring at him. Unblinking, he looked you up and down, licking his lips seductively. Bashful, you turned away, not wanting him to see you blush. Finn reached out a hand to stroke your reddening cheek.
Your skin tingled, as you nuzzled against his hand. Finn let out a low, victorious chuckle and cupped your other cheek in his hand, turning it to face him. You stared at his lips for just a moment before closing the distance between your face and his, stopping just before his lips. You closed your eyes, smiled to yourself, and pressed your lips to his. It was gentle and nervous at first, but as your hunger for him grew, the kiss became more passionate. You let out a small moan when he gently nibbled your lower lip. He pulled away, breathless, eyeing you intensely.
"If this goes much further... I won't be able to stop myself. Are you OK with that?" Finn asked, stroking your cheek. You nodded, never breaking eye contact. Finn smiled roguishly.
"Perfect." Finn grinned, tangling his fingers in your hair and devouring your lips, as you made a silent reminder to thank Seth and Becky
Thanks for reading! Let me know what you think, and if you want a part 2 at some point in the future 😊

Incorrect Order Chapter 5 (Nessian AU)
Tumblr media
A/N: Do inform me if you wanna be added/removed from the taglist! If you happen to find my storyline similar to another fic or one of yours, I'm extremely sorry, I might've just not known. All characters belong to the author Sarah J. Mass. Enjoy!
Summary: Don't first impressions always affect the way you see someone? Well, what more with the Nesta Archeron? Nesta meets Cassian at few unexpected places and to say it didn't go well was a major understatement. Certain circumstances make them become enemies to tolerable company to friends to lovers.
Trigger Warnings: Swearing, an angry Nesta and a heart-broken Cassian
2094 words | Incorrect Order Masterlist | Read on AO3
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nesta had never been one for small talk but in his presence she spoke as if she was excellent in small talk. They spoke of all unimportant things and ended up forgetting the important stuff; their names. Again.
Feyre sent an invitation for her first anniversary party as she did for every other occasion. The only thing different was that Nesta never bothered to pay heed to her invitations before. After the day in the alley, however, she decided she was going to turn over a new leaf. This was her first step.
She checked her reflection on the side-mirror. She tried to keep her outfit and make-up as simple as possible. She only wore a white ruffled-sleeved blouse with a black pencil skirt. Her hair was braided into a coronet. She looked good, but not as good as she’ll look if she took her own time to do a detailed make-over. She let out a breath and braced herself for the inevitable little chat with her sisters.
“Nesta?” a bewildered voice breathed. She whirled around to face her younger sister, Elain, looking up at her, a small smile playing about her lips. “You’re here,” she said and flung her arms around Nesta. Nesta automatically wrapped her arms around Elain’s smaller frame. Eventually, Elain pulled back.
“No offense, but I really thought you wouldn’t be coming,” Elain said.
Nesta felt as if the smile on her face couldn't be wiped out for the next few hours. “Honestly, I didn't think I'd come either. But here I am.”
She nodded and pulled Nesta to the garden the party was held at.
“I did this,” Elain said. “This garden, I planted and groomed all this.”
“No wonder why it looks so beautiful,” Nesta replied.
She flushed and said contemplatively, “You're so different now, Nesta.”
“I hope in a good way. Where's Feyre?”
“Let's go meet everyone first.”
Nesta shook her head. “I— I need to talk to both of you before I meet everyone else. ”
Elain hesitated then said, “Can you wait in that room? I'll fetch Feyre and come.”
Nesta nodded and headed to the door at the end of the garden Elain pointed at. The room was classy, much like the exterior of the house. She was struck by the simple yet grand theme of Feyre's house. She knew he and his brothers were rich but she just didn't understand the extent of their wealth. Till now.
“What are you thinking?” Feyre wasn't the type to blindly trust people. It took more than coming for her anniversary to persuade her that Nesta's intentions were good.
Nesta faced Feyre, her youngest sister, who stood before her, gorgeous yet fierce in a simple but elegant blue gown. She shrugged, “Just thinking that I'm glad my sisters were well-provided when I couldn't take care of them.”
Feyre’s face didn’t change, she just gestured towards the couches. “Have a seat,” she said.
Nesta sat down, “You both look splendid,” she said. Feyre said that the gown was a gift, Elain thanked Nesta and offered the same.
Nesta cleared her throat. “I need to tell the both of you something. Many things, actually.”
Elain nodded encouragingly. Feyre said, “Go on.”
So Nesta spoke. She apologised. For how she wasn't there to fulfill the role of an elder sister. For how she failed to attend Feyre's marriage and many other occasions. For all the rude words she spoke to them. For shunning them. She apologised for being self consumed. For everything else.
She also promised. To try harder. To become better. To be a good sister and sister-in-law. To be with them at all times, especially when they needed her. And they listened.
“I know these words aren't enough, but I'll try to make it so,” she finished, her hands clasped with both her sisters on her sides.
“You said you'll try, Nesta. We will too,” Feyre said.
“I see a very bright future ahead of us,” Elain said.
Nesta couldn't help the tears anymore. She folded her arms around her sisters and tucked them close. Her sisters. Her beloved sisters she now knew she'd do anything to protect.
“I see a very bright future too,” Nesta said.
Nesta pulled back after what felt like an hour and looked at her sisters' tear-streaked faces.
“I love you,” the three of them said simultaneously. Nesta giggled. Elain laughed. Feyre stared.
Nesta gently brushed the tears from both of their cheeks. “I don't want to see any of you crying.”
She hugged them again, willing the hug to convey everything she didn't say out loud.
“Now, now, enough snuggling. We've got a party to attend and people to meet, remember?” Feyre said.
***
Cassian was anxious. He had always hoped Nesta, his sister-in-law, would come for the gatherings they had; be it family dinners, or birthday parties, or the random meetings they had when they just got tipsy and played games. He hadn't seen her face-to-face before. All he knows about Nesta are from the descriptions from Feyre and Elain. That, too, was minimal. One of them would quickly change the topic to something pleasant the moment traces of an emotional breakdown were visible. Every time he hoped, he was let down. She never came. He vowed he would stop hoping and instead just go about and act as if she didn't exist. But that never happened. Every time his family met, his treacherous heart would start hoping only to have a chunk of it fall off when she failed to attend. Today was no different.
Then there’s the woman who he’d been talking to the whole afternoon. He was a tangled up mess of emotions and doubt and confusion. He had been sort-of pining after Nesta. She was exactly the person he’d like. Apparently she was drop-dead gorgeous, witty and… feral. Feyre said that. Feral. She’d be someone worth seeing. She was totally a worthy opponent. It’d be fun. But the other woman? Mother above, she was ethereal. More than ethereal, in fact. Words can't contain what he had to say about her.
He was damn near killing Az for calling him right when they were about to exchange names. He really can't believe he was a hairsbreadth away from knowing her before it was all ripped away. Now they were back to square one. He didn't know anything about her.
Azriel clapped him on his back so hard that he almost stumbled and fell. Or probably that was because he was too distracted. “All good Somm?”
“Mmm-hmm,” he replied noncommittally. He busied his hands with re-rinsing the champagne flutes and wiping them clean again. He did this two times already. Still.
“Mood is sour today, Cass?” Az teased, mock-frowning.
“Nah,” Cassian said wryly, “it's as sweet as honeydew. Especially today, when my chat got interrupted.” He glared at Azriel.
“Now, now, that is a story for another day. For now though, I think I've got something that can cheer up your brooding self.”
“What is it?” he mumbled.
Az grinned. “Nesta is here.”
***
Feyre and Elain took Nesta on a quick tour around the house. Feyre’s paintings were hung on the walls throughout the whole house. Nesta grimly noticed that there wasn't a single picture of her. There were even paintings of their father whose heart had long stopped beating. But none of hers. If only she didn’t push herself away, Nesta would’ve been a happy part of her sisters’ lives.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. Feyre took her hand in hers. Elain tucked herself to Nesta’s side, wrapping her arms over her slender shoulders.
Nesta already met Mor, a stunning blonde woman, and Amren, a slightly intimidating and short person. Now she only had to meet her brother-in-laws.
“Let’s go meet the boys!” Elain said brightly.
We walked back to the garden. Feyre seemed to get more and more elated the closer we got to the garden. Huh. Probably falling in love would do that to someone. Anyway, as long as her sisters were happy.
They stepped through the doorway. The garden was decorated with more banners and streamers hung on the back of chairs and on the low branches. Again, it looked opulent in a simple way.
There were three men in the centre of the garden, gathered around a table. They all were slightly similar, broad shouldered, tapered waists, muscular limbs. Three of them wore formal shirts and pants clinging to their frames. The one in the middle was Rhysand, she supposed. She smirked internally. Of course Feyre ended up with this guy. She's got a good taste. Must've gotten it from the oldest sister.
The one on the right, though. His figure felt familiar. Very, very familiar. She couldn't quite put a finger on it yet.
“The one on the left is Azriel, the one on the right is Cassian,” Feyre said, and Nesta nodded.
The boys must be really engrossed with their conversation. They hadn't noticed the three of them yet.
The guy she thought was familiar threw his head back and laughed. She gasped. That laugh. She'd know the laugh anywhere. Indeed, when he angled his face so that she could get a glimpse, she knew she was done for. She swallowed with much difficulty.
“I need to go,” she said quickly.
“Go? But— but we haven't cut the cake yet. It's still early. We've got lots more fun stuff,” Elain said.
“You said you'll try, Nesta. Only, this doesn't feel like 'trying',” Feyre said.
They sounded… hurt.
Mother above, I'm doing this wrong.
“Nesta?” Elain asked. “Is something wrong?”
“Yeah,” Feyre added, “you look pale.”
“Y-yeah it's f-fine. Kinda. My head hurts,” she said, accidentally clutching her stomach. “I-I mean, yeah my head hurts. Very badly. I gotta go.” She looked helplessly at both of them. “I'm so sorry. I really am. It's just— I think I need rest. I'll recompense. Probably dinner in three days?” They both shared a look and agreed.
Nesta was already walking away. “Love you both,” she threw over her shoulder.
***
“Feyre!” Rhys called. He beckoned Feyre and Elain to the table. He didn't see Nesta.
Cassian lightly kissed Feyre on her cheek once they made their way to the table and said, “Gorgeous as always. Happy anniversary!”
Feyre grinned, but it showed traces of disappointment.
He frowned. “Hey, what's wrong?”
She just shook her head and mumbled, “Nesta.” Rhys's face hardened. His brother was never fond of Nesta. He said that she was why Feyre was always worried.
“Where's Nesta?” Az asked, craning his neck to see behind farther.
“She… left,” Elain pointed, revealing a figure disappearing behind the gates. A figure he knew all too well. Shitshitshitshit.
His head snapped back to his brothers. “That is Nesta?” he damn near shouted.
Rhys scowled, “Yeah.”
No wonder why she's so beautiful, he thought dumbly before running after her with a quick “I'll be back.”
***
Nesta was wrong. In all her happiness of being reunited with her sisters, she completely forgot how even a small thing can break one's smile. She felt like she couldn't breathe. She kept her calm demeanour, but inside, she was a raging storm of emotions.
One step in front of the other, she kept reminding herself.
She kept walking. Even when she heard footsteps. Even when the steps got louder. Even as he got close enough to cease running.
But not when he called her name. She halted. Locked up her emotions. She knew she shouldn't but she turned around anyway.
“What do you want?” she snapped.
“Nesta,” he breathed. She tried to hold back her shudder. It was from the night air, she told herself.
“If you have nothing to say, do let me know. I'm not going to wait forever,” she said. Harsher than she intended to. But she didn't care, at least, that's what she told herself.
Cassian winked, “I'm honored you came, sweetheart. I'll pass the credit to my influence on you. ”
She ground her teeth against the truth threatening to fall off her lips. Yes, I came here because you made me happy. And I thought that if I tried, as I did with you, I can rebuild my relationship with my sisters.
***
Cassian did something stupid. He grabbed her hand. Her eyes snapped to his, burning with anger. Like the day they first met.
He gave her a crooked grin that he knew would drive her mad. Well, more than she already was. He tilted his head to the garden, “The party is that way, love.”
She snatched back her hand at continued walking. Like a fool, he followed. “I spoke to my sisters. Told them I won't be staying tonight. And that we'll have dinner in three day's time. Does that satisfy you? Now, can you stop following me?”
“Something's wrong. What's wrong, Nes?”
“One,” she ground out, “don't call me that. Two, I'm a grown-ass woman; I know how to take care of myself. I don't need a babysitter.”
“You did. That day,” he said quietly.
She whirled on him, “Is this you taking back favours? Because I'm not interested. You want money? Take it. Tell me your price and fucking take it! Don't tread on my heels because you helped me, okay? I've got way better things to do.” She paused, “And don't follow me, Cassian.”
She turned and stalked away.
You want money? Take it. 'Take it.' As if he were a beggar, asking for alms. As if they weren't laughing at each other's jokes not more than an hour ago. As if he didn't spend a week taking care of her as if she were a part of his soul. Maybe she was.
But that was before, Cassian thought as his heart cleaved into two perfect halves. No— it smashed to a million tiny pieces.
He waited till Nesta was out of his line of sight. He turned and walked back to the garden, leaving his heart behind.
Chapter 7 to '100 Promises'
Previous Chapter | Next Chapter
Warnings: Swearing, violence, bullying, blood, I think that's it, but as always feel free to tell me if I missed any.
"I finally got contact lenses. I think they'll be better than my glasses. I mean, yeah, I'll probably still use them, but it's... nevermind, what do you think?" He rambled, a dorky smile on his face. "If it'll make you happy, then you look great," you said, smiling, honestly meaning your words. "I'm asking for your opinion woman, stop giving me the 'if it makes you happy' bullshit. Give me your opinion," he stated, shaking your shoulders."It looks good! I'm not used to seeing you without your glasses, but you look good!" You laughed, your words coming out in a vibrato of sorts from him shaking you. "I'm glad you think so."
"Dear gods my hair is getting long..." he muttered, running his hands through his hair, staring at himself in the bathroom mirror. "I think it looks good," you commented, passing by the bathroom with a laundry basket. "Really? I think I kind of like it too..."
"And how much does it hurt?" He questioned. "Not that much, or so I've heard. Plus, we're getting it at the same time, so... no backing out, or I'll cut your hair," you threatened, your hold on his hand tightening a bit. "No, don't you dare. And I won't back out," he said as you dragged him into the shop. (The fact I've been threatened with that-)
"I somehow can't believe we looked like that!" You laughed, pointing at the photo on your phone. It was from high school, and you were both laughing at how dorky you both looked. "Oh gods... actually, I was kind of hot," you said, giggling a bit. "Have we really changed that much?" Niragi questioned. "Well, let's see," you said, opening the camera and telling Niragi to get into frame. He did so, and you both stuck out your tongues, the matching piercings glinting in the light. You snapped the photo, and put it side by side the one from high school. "Wow... that's a big difference, holy shit," he laughed. You snickered, and posted side by side comparison of the the photos. "Yeah. Huge difference."
"Hatter would like to see you... Alone."
You looked back at Ann, and nodded, getting up. "If she's going, I'm going with," Niragi said, getting up himself. "He said he wants to speak to (Y/N) alone. Respect to rules for once please," Ann chided, as you walked to her side. Niragi laughed, finishing with a smirk, "And since when do I listen to the rules?"
You looked back at him with a proud, yet embarrassed face. Definitely not the same Niragi from back in the real world. He was more confident than you last remembered, that was for sure. "Dude, I'll be totally fine. The least they could do is kill me," you said, a bit to nonchalantly for his tastes. "That seems like a worse case scenario, but ok." he responded, "I'm still going with you." "No, you're not. Look, I'll be fine ok? Just wait outside the door," you suggested. He scoffed, but nodded nontheless. Ann stayed quiet, watching this exchange. 'So... is that all it takes to convince him? Really? All we needed was this girl?' Were her thoughts.
"Oh good, you're here!" Hatter exclaimed as soon as you walked in. Ann stayed outside, and shut the doors behind you. You nodded. Was he happy or just extremely charismatic? You didn't know, but whatever it was, it was nice. It made you feel like you were talking to someone you knew. Like the pleasant ladies from your apartment complex. "Well, what do you want to talk about?"
"Where are we?" You asked as you got off the train. "I don't know. Just took a random train. You said you wanted another adventure," he replied. You gasped. "Niragi Suguru, you did not," you said, grabbing onto his hand to make sure you didn't lose him in the large crowd. "I did. And what of it?" He asked, dragging you out. "Oh my gods... Excuse me, sorry to bother you, but which city are we in?" You asked one of the people who worked there. They smiled and answered with, "Shinjuku. Are you lost?"  You shook your head. "No, we'll be fine. Thank you very much!" You said. Niragi dragged you to the exit. "I don't look presentable to be in Shinjuku right now, Niragi," you said, hiding your face. "You always look nice though. And it's called opportunity. I took it, and now we're here. So, let's take advantage of this, yeah?"
Hatter sat you down. "From what Ann and Aguni reported back to me, you're a quick thinker. Great shot apparently. They were both very impressed," he started. You smiled. "I'm honored they felt that way," you said. Hatter chuckled. "Well, Ann said you'd do well in either position of a militant or an executive. And it's just your luck the precious person who held number 7 recently... died. The games, obviously. Before you came here, actually. Maybe it was a sign it was meant to be yours. And, since you've proven yourself useful, I think it's a good idea," Hatter said, rambling a bit. "That's a bit too high for me, isn't it?" You questioned. You had just gotten here, you couldn't possibly be up that high already. "Uh... no. It's not. So, as of today, you shall be a militant," he said dramatically. You laughed, thanking him as he gave you a wristband with the number seven written on the blue tag. You slipped it on your wrist. "Oh, and just so you know, Aguni will most likely take you under his wing. The militants are mostly guys, so be careful. And... uh... your friend can help you find everything. He'll also show you to your new room. That is all. Goodbye now," he said cheerfully. You smiled brightly, thanking him.
You opened the door to leave, seeing Niragi leaning on the wall across the door. You smiled, closing the door softly behind you. "I'm back," you said. He nodded, "I can see that." "Can you really? You have your contact lenses?" You asked, skeptical. He nodded his head. "Surprisingly," he added. "Hmm... and for how many more days do you have them?" You questioned as he led you through the hotel. "Well, I've been in the borderland about 2 and a half weeks-"
"Woah, hold up... you'd been gone for six months up in the real world-"
"Well, I'm starting to think time runs differently in both places. Because no way in hell have I been here 6 months."
"Ok... continue on."
You two talked about whatever came to mind just like you used to. It was like you never skipped a beat. He lead you down into where they kept the weapons. "Only milatants and Hatter are allowed down here. This is the basement, and also where we keep the weapons. So, take your pick," he said, a smirk on his face. "You're a bit to proud of this aren't you?" You asked, looking over the different weapons. "Maybe," he responded. You didn't have to look at him to know he was smirking, you could just hear it in his voice. You picked out a knife that had a strap around. You also picked up a riffle similar to Niragi's, and turned to face him. "Ok, I'm good," you said. "Tomorrow, the militants are heading out on a supply run. Which means you now too. You can wear actual clothes now, isn't that fun?" He joked. You rolled your eyes shoving him playfully. He ran his tongue over his teeth. "That's really how you want to play, huh (L/N)?" He asked. You could hear the tone behind his words. The tone that meant run or your fucked, because whatever game he's scheming will end with you caught. It was quite normal for you two. Playing games with each other was a hobby back in the real world. Didn't matter how childish or immature they were. "Ouch, my last name? That hurts... Suguru." (Is that his last name or his first name? I don't know, I've been treating it as his last name, but I'm probably wrong) You giggled, running off. There was probably tons of places to hide inside the basement, and probably even more places throughout the beach.
"How was last night? Did you have fun?" He teased as soon as you woke up. You rolled your eyes. "Don't even talk to me about last night. Another disappointment," you groaned, rubbing your eyes. "Damn. That bad, huh?" He said, handing you a mug with coffee in it. You took a sip, and smiled. Perfect... He always made really good coffee, and it impressed you. "Yeah... definitely that bad. I heard him leave this morning, let's hope he never comes back," you said. Niragi laughed, taking a sip of his own coffee. The sunlight came in through the sliding glass door of your apartment.  The sky was painted with pinks and purples. Gold dusted the clouds as the sun touched them. It was perfectly picturesque. "One day, we won't have to live in a sucky apartment building, you know? I promise you that one day we'll have... I don't know where do you want to live?" He asked you. You both walked over to the couch, sitting next to eachother. "I don't know... I'd go anywhere as long as I can still have my best friend with me.''
"Come on out, (Y/N). I'll find you sooner or later. We need sleep," he shouted. You stifled a laugh, and crouched down, sneaking around. You could see him looking around for you. You moved backwards, bumping into someone. You slowly turned around. It was the guys Niragi had introduced as 'Last Boss'.
Throughout the day, you had actually had the opportunity to talk to him a bit. More like you talked, while he observed you, occasionally making a sound of sorts to show you he was listening. He'd also answered your questions, so you thought he wouldnt be that bad. You made the quiet signal, putting a finger to your lips. He looked down quizzically. "Playing a game. Can't let him find me. Wanna join?" You whispered to the mysterious man. He nodded slightly, still a bit confused. "Ok, the objective is to not get caught by Niragi. He doesn't know you're playing yet, so I'll figure something out... oh, I got it! You go hide," you whisper shouted, shooing him off. He went to go hide, and you climbed to the top of one of the darker places. "A new player has joined in. One seeker, two hiders!" You shouted. You heard Niragi laugh. "Dumbass! You're letting me know where you are!"  You smirked. That's what you wanted him to think.
"Oh nice! You got his glasses that's 20 points!" The boys shouted. You struggled to get out of the ropes tied your hands together. You heard Niragi groan, and looked up, seeing him on the floor, blood dripping from his nose. "Niragi!" You shouted in worry. He looked over at you, before one of the guys kicked his face into the ground. You struggled against the ropes the boys had tied around your wrist. It dug into your skin, you could feel the skin being rubbed raw from how much you had struggled against them ."So useless without eachother, huh?" One of them taunted. "Stop hurting him!" You yelled, squirming. "Oh? Would you rather we harm you then? You were always such a pretty girl... to bad you decided to defend him," the leader of their little group said, kneeling in front of you. "I don't give a damn if you hurt me. Stop hurting him!' You shouted. "(Y-y/N), don't," Niragi said, before one of the bullies kicked him in the stomach. He winced in pain, screwing his eyes shut. "Stop it! He didn't do anything to you!" You screamed, struggling even more, the ropes creating rope burn on your skin. "It's not a vengeance thing. It's fun," the leader said, grabbing your chin, making you look up at him. You glared at him in disgust, wanting so badly to just hit him, or spit on him in the moment. But you didn't. You didn't because you knew if you did either you or Niragi would get hurt. More likely Niragi, since they knew he was your weakness. "Just like it's fun making girls like you submit," he added with a smirk. "Don't you dare hurt her! Hurt me all you want, but don't touch her!" Niragi yelled. There was confidence in his words, but you also knew how scared he was. You could see it on his face. "That sounds boring though. What if we just make both of you our little puppets for the night, have you both put on a show?'' One of the guys snickered. This was followed by a chorus of 'not a bad idea' and 'sounds interesting.' You looked at Niragi, fear written all over your face.
You ran quietly, and quickly, knowing he could catch up to you. You looked around the dimly lit basement, and saw the exist to go up. Your eyes caught a flash of movement, and someone grabbed you, putting a hand over your mouth. You were shocked at first, going to scream bloody murder, before seeing it was Last Boss. He let you go, and you took a breath. "Oh my gods... dude that was scary," you whispered. He shrugged. "I have a place we can hide. I don't think he's smart enough to find it," He suggested, nodding his head over to Niragi. You stifled a laugh, and nodded, letting him lead you.
"(Y/N)! (Y/N), are you alright?" He worriedly asked, checked on you. You hissed in pain when his hands went over the bruises. "I'm sorry. This is all my fault, if I hadn't-" he started, blaming himself. You grabbed shoulders, and shook your head. "It's not your fault... it's ok," you said, sitting up. The gravel under you poked at the skin exposed from your school skirt. "I-its not ok!" He shouted. "It's... it's not ok. You shouldn't have- I could've-" he started, pulling at his hair. "Niragi. It's not your fault. You didn't... you didn't hurt me," you said, your voice calming. You grabbed his hands, pulling them towards you. You were just kids. Fucking 16 years old(not exactly a kid, but whatever), you shouldn't have to go through this stuff. No kid should. "I should be comforting you, yet here you are, making me feel better. Stop it, you're the one who-"
"Niragi, it happened to both of us. Stop acting like you're ok too."
"But- I'm supposed to... I-"
"Shut up, and come here."
He sighed, sitting besides you. You pulled his head into your lap, and he sighed. "Stop taking care of me. Stop hanging out with me, because you're the one who ends up getting hurt because of me. Please," he pleaded as you ran your fingers through his hair. "No," you responded. "(Y/N), stop being so stubborn! Please, just... just listen to me!" He shouted. You flinched at the sudden loudness. "I- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you," he apologized, noticing when you flinched. You sighed, leaning back on the concrete wall. You muttered back something along the lines of him not having to apologize. You heard thunder, and saw a flash of lightning. "It's going to rain, we should go home," Niragi said. "Don't wanna... let's stay here?" You muttered, watching the sun get covered by the clouds. You were under a bridge, so you at least had coverage. He looked up at you, and nodded. "Ok. We can," he whispered. The raindrops began to splatter on the ground outside the coverage of the bridge, and you sighed in happiness. Niragi sat up, bringing you close to him. The smell of rain filled your senses, and you couldn't help but enjoy the moment, even if you had been in emotional and physical pain before. Being there helped numb it for a while. Being with him helped numb the feeling.
"Alright... if I were (Y/N)... where would I go?" Niragi muttered to himself, walking around. It was too quiet. You weren't a quiet person unless need be, and if he remembers correctly, which he does, you had a losing streak in hide and seek since high school. You were too giggly to hide in silence, or maybe you got scared by being alone in the dark to long. Whatever it had been, you had a losing streak for almost 8 years. That was not about to change, not if he had a say in it. A part of him said he was not acting like himself, and that playing this with you was childish. Especially in the borderlands. He knew he would have to find you either way, so he stopped caring. He remembered what she had said. A new player has joined in. One seeker, two hiders! 'Ok, process of elimination....'
"So, given the fact Chishiya isn't allowed down here, I think I know who she's with, and where she is. Let's see if I'm right.''
This was more memories than actual current events... oh well- hope you enjoyed, have a wonderful day/night, baii!! Oh yeah, just because this is the only place people have a problem with me posting Niragi stuff, if you don't like it, the block button is right there, don't send me death threats or tell me to go kms. Thank you
A/N: I KNOW, I know. It took a long time. A really long time. 2 weeks is actually not that long but I GET IT. I’m done though! I am finished, I have completed one(1) fic, and I can rest easy now. I’ve had a bit of trouble with these types of fics before, mainly I just didn’t know how to write them. But I figured it out! Maybe. Sorta. I dunno, I kinda like it... ANYWAYS uh song bumps the rating up to a T, but there’s not really much else. You perform a song for Wilford after a long day! That’s it. Also Talking about Feelings at the end because I was feeling Angsty and wanted some Plot. It’s a long one dhwukcgfeywf anyways enjoy!
Word Count: 3.0k
Performing the Cell Block Tango for Wilford
You plopped down onto the living room couch and sighed. What a day! What a great, awful, stressful day. You loved Wilford, absolutely, but the man could be a handful.
You weren’t sure how it was possible for someone to have so many bullets in one gun.
In any case, you had to stop him from KILLING PEOPLE for a while before getting to come home.
You didn’t have the emotional capacity to be mad at this point. You really needed to wind down.
First, you should make dinner. Last time Wilford stepped foot in the kitchen the whole house went up in flames. You grabbed your phone and called to order take out.
You rubbed your eyes, suddenly feeling very tired. You shook your head, knowing if you fell asleep Wilford might kill the delivery person. You went to the bathroom.
You turned the sink faucet on and splashed your face a few times. You looked in the mirror at your soaking-wet face. God Wilford was so difficult to deal with. Well… he’d gotten better… but he still had a long way to go before you could even consider taking him anywhere. If he wouldn’t pull a gun on all the therapists you took him to maybe he’d have gotten a little better in the time that you knew him.
Now that Wilford was back on your mind, you thought of a way you could maybe relax.
You walked back to the living room and looked down at the phone that you’d thrown on the chair beside the couch. You looked up, not seeing Wilford anywhere. You took a deep breath, and decided you deserved a little performing. As a treat.
You pressed play on the song when you found it, and you stood up. You stood with your back to the music, facing the wall.
"Pop. Six. Squish. Uh-uh. Cicero. Lipschitz," you said quietly. "And now, the six merry murderesses of the Crook County Jail, and their rendition of the Cell Block Tango…"
You began moving your arms in rhythm to the song. A smile twitched at your lips. This might’ve seemed a bit silly to anyone else, but luckily, you were alone. Right?
Yes, Wilford went to go see Dark. You were absolutely, 100% alone.
In fact, you were so sure that you were alone that you didn’t hear Wilford walk into the room. He saw you… dancing? Were you dancing? He didn’t think you danced. You didn’t seem like the type to dance. He tilted his head to the side a little, about to ask what was happening, before hearing the music play from the phone and closing his mouth. He decided to stay quiet and just… watch.
The music began speeding up and you started to get really into it, moving around a lot. As the chorus got close, you turned around, only to find Wilford staring at you. He was standing in front of the couch, near your phone. You stared back at him, the heat of embarrassment rising in your cheeks. You prepared to shamefully walk away, to avoid him by taking a shower or saying you had to run to the store, to make sure he said nothing about this to you or anyone else.
But, Wilford seemed to have other things in mind.
Seeing you watch him like a deer in headlights, he thought there was something he should do in this situation, something to make you more comfortable.
With that in mind, he plopped down onto the couch, respectfully folding his hands in his lap, and looked at you expectantly.
Was that the right decision? Too late to take it back now. Hopefully it was.
You blinked for a moment before you got the memo and started moving again. You felt your skin burn in the still-present embarrassment as you continued your… well, it wasn’t quite dancing. Something along those lines, maybe. You expected Wilford to talk, laugh, comment, make any noise at all. But he just sat, watching you. You looked at him, nervous. He smiled brightly at you and you remembered that this was Wilford, dammit! The man loved you and would never wish any harm on you, physically or emotionally. And that’s when you decided to put a little trust in your boyfriend, and started to sing right as the chorus started up.
“He had it comin', he had it comin', he only had himself to blame… If you'd have been there, if you'd have seen it, I betcha you would have done the same! Pop! Six! Squish! Uh-uh! Cicero! Lipschitz! Pop! Six! Squish! Uh-uh! Cicero! Lipschitz!”
Wilford nearly got whiplash when you started to sing. Since when? Could you do this? You had never? You were also quite good, so… why didn’t he know?
You started getting more exaggerated and “angry” with your movements, which made Wilford smile. You looked like you were having fun(which you were) and he was happy about that. He also appreciated the few lyrics he processed over the look of joy on your face taking full control of his mind. He could relate to it, at least a little. He wondered if that’s why you liked the song…
He then realized that it probably wasn’t, but he liked the thought nonetheless.
“You know how people have these little habits that get you down? Like Bernie. Bernie liked to chew gum. No, not chew: pop! So I came home this one day, and I am really irritated and I'm looking for a little bit of sympathy. And there's Bernie, laying on the couch drinking a beer and chewing. No, not chewing: popping!” You were waving your arms around while telling the story, and got this angry look on your face at certain points. While making the face, you pointed at Wilford accusingly. He frowned at first, before remembering you were acting. And, damn, you were good at it! "So, I said to him, I said, "You pop that gum one more time..." And he did. So I took the shotgun off the wall and I fired two warning shots... into his head.” You made a fake gun with your hands and fake-shot at Wilford. He leaned back on the couch, put on a surprised look, and laid a hand over his chest, playing along. You smiled at him joyfully before going back to singing.
He bit his lip to not laugh, as you might’ve taken it the wrong way. He was just very… happy. And entertained with what was happening.
“I met Ezekiel Young, from Salt Lake City, about two years ago, and he told me he was single, and we hit it off right away. So, we started living together. He'd go to work, he'd come home, I'd fix him a drink, we'd have dinner. And then I found out. "Single," he told me? Single, my ass. Not only was he married, oh, no, he had six wives. One of those mormons, you know? So that night, when he came home from work, I fixed him his drink, as usual.” Wilford got a bit distracted at this point, just by you. Everything you were doing. The dancing, the acting, the singing, the smiles… you looked so happy. He wondered why you didn’t look like this more often. He wondered how he could get you to look like this more often.
He’d heard someone talk about karaoke at the store one day.
Could he do that? Could he buy a karaoke machine? Would you want a karaoke machine?
“You know... some guys just can't hold their arsenic.” He was snapped back to reality,(ope, there goes gravity) when you ruffled his hair harshly at the last line. He looked up at you again and found you were still smiling. He automatically smiled back.
“Now, I'm standing in the kitchen, carving up the chicken for dinner, minding my own business. In storms my husband, Wilford, in jealous rage.” You accidentally said “Wilford” instead of “Wilbur”. Who could blame you, honestly. To save it, you started acting like you were talking directly to Wilford instead of just a make-believe audience. Wilford, on the other hand, panicked a little when you said his name. It wasn’t the same name as the song said, so… what? He then came to the conclusion that you just wanted to get him to pay more attention.
"You been screwing the milkman," he says. He was crazy and he kept on screaming "You been screwing the milkman." And then he ran into my knife. He ran into my knife ten times.” You leaned towards him, got up in his face, and grabbed and shook his shoulders. Wilford just kind of… sat there and took it, since he didn’t know what he was supposed to do. He nodded a few times as well, seemingly a bit intimidated by you. It took much of your willpower to not break and start laughing at him.
His cheeks dusted a light pink because of how close you were getting to his face. He nearly leaned forward and kissed you, but caught himself. You were performing and he had no right to interrupt.
Still, your lips looked awfully kissable…
“If you'd have been there, if you'd have seen it, I betcha you would have done the same!”
You had to mentally prepare yourself for the Hungarian part. You took a breath to lower your heart rate and told yourself that even if you messed it up, it was fine. It was just Wilford.
“Mit keresek én itt? Azt mondják, a híres lakóm lefogta a férjem, én meg lecsaptam a fejét. De nem igaz. Én ártatlan vagyok. Nem tudom, miért mondja Uncle Sam, hogy én voltam. Próbáltam a rendõrségen megmagyarázni, de nem értették meg.” You had to suck in a breath and miss a few lines to get your brain back on track. “Uh-uh! Not guilty!”
Wilford was thrown completely off guard at the Hungarian and he stared at the phone. Where the hell did that come from? More confusingly, when he looked back at you, you seemed to be keeping up with the words, for the most part. Did you know Hungarian? Did you just know this part? You slipped up a few times but, hot damn, it was impressive.
You had this sad, innocent look on your face the whole time. One that made him wanna get up and hug you. But he didn’t because he knew that you were fine and you were acting and he was gonna let you finish this wonderful performance of yours even if it fucking killed him, goddammit!
Okay, he was being a little dramatic. Even so.
“My sister Veronica and I had this double act, and my husband Charlie traveled around with us. Now, for the last number in our act we did these twenty acrobatic tricks in a row. One, two, three, four, five, splits, spread eagles, back flips, flip flops, one right after the other. So this one night before the show, we're down at the hotel Cicero, the three of us boozing, having a few laughs. And we ran out of ice so I went out to get some. I come back, open the door, and there's Veronica and Charlie, doing number seventeen: the spread eagle! Well, I was in such a state of shock I completely blacked out, I can't remember a thing. It wasn't until later, when I was washing the blood off my hands, I even knew they were dead.” You decided you kick your leg up a little both times you mentioned spread eagles. Wilford shook his head, a little dumbfounded. He understood the implications in the song, and his face flushed darker. He wondered if you did too, because it just seemed like you did it for fun. In any case, he coughed into his hand quietly, as to not make you worry.
You look at Wilford, a bit confused, but he just gave you a thumbs up for you to continue. You smiled and kept doing what you were doing, not noticing how flushed he was.
“They had it coming, they had it coming, they had it coming all along! I didn't do it, but if I'd done it, how could you tell me that I was wrong?”
Wilford watched in utter fascination at how you were moving. If he didn’t know better, he’d say you choreographed this.
Well… he didn’t know what you did when he wasn’t home.
But you moved fairly fluidly through dances and you seemed to be on-tempo, even if the dances seemed random.
Random does not mean unplanned, he reminded himself.
He was also a little distracted from your dancing by the song, because it was making him feel emotions he wasn’t sure existed. He was determined to memorize your every move, however, so that would just have to wait until another day.
“I loved Al Lipschitz more than I can possibly say. He was a real artistic guy, sensitive, a painter. But he was always trying to find himself. He'd go out every night looking for himself, and on the way he found Ruth, Gladys, Rosemary and Irving. I guess you can say we broke up because of artistic differences. He saw himself as alive... and I saw him dead…” You stood pretty still for this part, since the song was almost over and you were feeling pretty tired. 7 minutes didn’t seem like a long time, but it’s different when you’re working out.
You did pace a little bit, while keeping your arm movement to a minimum. You felt your heart beating due to the exercise and also the anxiety of your boyfriend watching you.
You did make a last-second decision to boop his nose when you got to the last word. This made Wilford blink harshly and look up at you with a pout. Before you went back to your original spot in the room, you gave him a little kiss on the nose. That made him grin from ear to ear and dig his fingers into his legs. You bit back a chuckle and started up again.
“They had it coming, they had it coming, they had it coming all along! 'Cause if they used us, and they abused us, how could you tell us that we were wrong? He had it coming, he had it coming, he only had himself to blame! If you'd have been there, if you'd have seen it, I betcha you would have done the same!” You kept dancing the same as you did before, even though your legs were starting to burn, and you were having trouble keeping the same fluid movements. Some of them became a little more jerky and forced than you wanted them to.
Wilford noticed this and brought his arms up a bit, leaning forward in case you needed help. He figured you wouldn’t, but he didn’t want you cracking your skull open or anything.
He’d be very upset if you did that…
“You pop that gum one more time! Single my ass. Ten times! Miert csukott Uncle Sam bortonbe! Number seventeen: the spread eagle. Artistic differences…” You did all your previous movements for each woman’s line. Which included: The shotgun, throwing both hands above your head, getting in Wilford’s face, wiping a fake tear, kicking your leg, and shrugging, in that order. You were very out of breath and a bit disoriented, but that was okay because there was only a little bit left!
“Pop. Six. Squish. Uh-uh. Cicero. Lipschitz…” You ended the song by walking directly in front of Wilford and falling to your knees in front of him once you were sure the song had ended. You breathed heavily, feeling the tiredness from the day and the dancing catching up to you. You were about to ask Wilford “So, how bad was it?” before he slid to the floor and wrapped his arms around you. You froze, not knowing what was happening.
“You were fantastic,” He whispered. Which you thought was very strange because Wilford couldn’t speak lower than a yell, in your experience. You furrowed your eyebrows.
“Wil, what’s happening?” You asked, still out of breath. He squeezed you a little tighter.
“I just… wanted to show love to my partner?” He said hesitantly. You scoffed and hugged him back.
“Do you feel guilty because you embarrassed me?”
“Yes…”
“Wil, you’re fine, I promise.” You chuckled. He sighed and sat back. You looked at him and frowned.
“I…” He ran a hand through his hair and avoided looking at your face. “I… know I’m not the easiest to deal with and… I… I wanna… make you feel comfortable…”
“You do make me feel comfortable!” You took his hands in yours.
“But every time I’ve looked at you today you were always scared or angry!” He argued. You closed your mouth, not really having any argument.
“Mm…” You hummed.
“I… wanna… get better. I wanna be better. For you.” He grumbled. You smiled and twisted yourself around so you were sitting between his legs with your head resting on his chest. He laid his chin on top of your head.
“I think you’re perfectly fine.” You sighed.
“I don’t wanna be perfectly fine, I wanna be perfect!” He whined.
“Well, that’s an impossible goal.”
“Then… I wanna be perfect… for you.”
“That’s a better one.” You looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back, feeling a warmth spreading through his chest. You were listening. You understood.
And you loved him.
“Am I a good boyfriend?” He asked.
“Of course you are.” You snuggled into his chest.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked softly as he could. You squinted at him as he gave you his very best puppy eyes. You gave in, and gave him a peck. You could feel his arms waving around as he tried to decide what to do with them. Eventually, he placed them on the sides of your neck. You pulled back after a little and he stared at you adoringly.
“Don’t you look at me like that…” You warned.
“I love you…” He sighed and wrapped his arms around you, squeezing you tightly. You squirmed, trying to get out, but he didn’t move.
“Wilford…” You whined. “Lemme go! I ordered food!”
“Ok, I’ll let you go when the food shows up!” You huffed and let your body go limp as you succumbed to the hug.
You should’ve just cooked something.
Hello!♡ Could I please request a character ship (👥) for Spike (from Buffy), Pietro Maximoff (from Marvel, The Avengers) and Newt Scamander (from Fantastic Beasts) ? To be true, I'm really boring and my personality is extremly paradox. I always feel like I don't belong anywhere, that's probably why I have a soft spot for anyone and anything different. I suffer from autism and depression. I admire people who are bold and straight-forward with their feelings. Because it's hard for me to express my own and, sadly, I usually don't sense or see others. And, even though I'm not at all funny, I like people who are. My ideal day would be spent with cuddling, listening to music, watching movies, having in-depths conversations and drinking tea on a rainy day and to take a walk in the rain. I'm extremly loyal and I honestly try to be as kind/polite as possible. Music is very important and therapeutic for me, I could never live a day without it. I always try to act against injustice, even if being the center of attention makes me uncomfortable. I'm not at all dominant, but that's not a problem to me. My favorite colours are green and black. I have a big problem with authority and I'm not afraid to speak up against them (which is surprising to most people because I'm usually very shy, insecure and quiet). As a quiet person, I like talkative people because they are willing to do the talking themselves and don't expect me to keep up my end of it. I have a kind heart and I see the good in everyone. I'm only wearing black and I don't like bright colours. I secretly crave affection and attention, but I feel like I don't deserve it. I'm barely able to make eye contact and am sometimes painfully awkward. Nevertheless, I love animals and I'm more comfortable with them (they are far easier than humans). I'm a feminist and anarchist. I don't know if it's true, but I think I annoy people. I'd love to live one day in the UK (if I could choose my heritage, it would be britain). I really struggle to say what's on my mind, sometimes I can't even build the easiest sentence (and that annoys me greatly). I think that one of the best feeling is that of a hug or cuddling, but I could never ask anyone for one. I'm probably the clumsiest person. I only judge people for what I experience, so it doesn't matter to me what is said about that person or what their heritage/beliefs are.
Wow, that is pretty long! I hope that's not too much? And I'm sorry for any errors, english isn't my native language. But I would be incredible thankful if you'd do that!♡
Hi, thanks for requesting a ship! Hope you like it :)
Tumblr media
💖 You and Spike both feel like you don’t really belong and are drawn to anything different for that very reason. For that reason as well, you ended up becoming close. You appreciated how unique the other was and you felt like you could understand each other on a deeper level.
💖 Spike doesn’t really mind being the center of attention, so he does it for you when you need it. You are quite similar deep down, but when it comes to your differences you really compliment each other like when it comes to how talkative he is and how quiet you are.
💖 It doesn’t happen often, but you do speak up when you come across injustice. When things like these happen, Spike always gives you the heart eyes. Not that he would voice out his emotions just like that, but he can’t help being impressed and enamored by you then. Even more so than usual.
Tumblr media
💖 Pietro is so supportive of you in anything and everything you do. He loves how you’re always trying to help people and how you try to get over your timidness in order to do that. He’s also always ready to step in if you need his help and won’t have a problem if he has to talk for you.
💖 As much as he’s constantly teasing you and flustering you, Pietro adores you and isn’t afraid to show it. He’s super affectionate and is always hugging you, kissing you or at the very least putting an arm over your shoulders or around your waist. What’s great about this is he knows you love the affection too, even if he might tease you a little more and playfully say you’re blushing or something.
💖 With Pietro you don’t always need to talk. He pays attention to you, to what you do say even if you say it once, but also to your facial expressions that he knows how to read so well. If you’re uncomfortable or sad or tired, Pietro knows and will be a sweetheart about it. He will ask if you want to leave, or if you need a hug, or if you want him to do something. And 9 out of 10 times, he will know exactly what you need.
Tumblr media
💖 In a way, you and Newt have very similar personalities. You’re both extremly shy and introverted and sometimes you struggle to even make eye contact. That was one of the reasons why you got along so well so fast.
💖 The other main reason why you’re so close was your shared love for animals and fantastic creatures. When he introduced them to you, he saw a change in you since you suddenly forgot about your shyness and became a different person, you actually were yourself. Just like this, you realized Newt was truly himself around his creatures too. And he realized then, he was also himself around you.
💖 Newt truly admires how brave you are when you speak up against authority. He might do so sometimes too, but it’s terribly hard for him, and you make it look so easy with how passionate you are to fix things and make the world a better place that you inspire him in a way.
µ's Scenario || Living a Cinderella Story: They are royalty and invite you (a commoner) to the ball
HONOKA
The moment she saw you on the street, she knew you were the one she was going to make her partner. She wouldn't hesitate, she would call right out to you, inviting you to come find her on the night of the ball. And when you arrive, she would never be able to contain her excitement. Even if you showed up in your commoner rags, covered in dust and ash from the chores you had completed before your arrival at the event, Honoka would not at all cease to comment on how beautiful and perfect you are to her, and would already be asking for your hand in marriage before the night even ended. This is the night where Princess Kousaka fell in love at first sight.
"I see you and I see perfection. I see my future. Together, we'll be unstoppable. I can already feel it and see it. It's starting right now. (Y/N), will you marry me?"
Tumblr media
KOTORI
It would take her a moment to gather the courage. After asking you to come to the ball, she'd wait nervously in her throne. But when she saw you come through the grand marble doors, every fear and anxiety of hers would completely disappear. Beckoning you to her, she would ask for your hand in a dance. The two of you would spend the whole night together, laughing, chatting, hand in hand. As the clock drew closer to midnight, Kotori knew she would have to choose her partner eventually, and without hesitation picked you. She would place her crown on your head, leaning in to kiss your lips and seal the deal. Best night of her life.
"Honestly, I was so concerned that you wouldn't come to me at first, but after seeing how big your heart and your supply of courage really is, I feel confident with you. You're obviously so much more than what the other commoners say you are. I can see it. Why don't you marry me and we have nights like this together for always? I'd like that with you."
Tumblr media
UMI
Princess Umi had been watching over you for a very long time. She would see you amidst the crowds at the markets and other events, and she would take careful note of who you are and what positive traits she could find about you. Eventually she would feel as though you were a good enough person to invite to the ball. She'd be especially impressed when you arrived in something slightly more decent than your regular potato sack dress and sandals. Without any second thought, she would confidently approach you, and initiate conversation, which would lead to a dance. In just one night, Princess Umi grew to like almost every single thing about you, and found it in her heart that you were the one for her. Whisking you away to the royal chapel, Umi would not at all hesitate to ask you for your hand, most positively thrilled when your answer is yes.
"I don't usually invite commoners to my events, but something is positively different about you. Come with me to the chapel. Let's have a further conversation, yes?"
Tumblr media
HANAYO
You certainly be very shocked upon hearing that the shy and reclusive Princess Koizumi had invited you to her grand ball. Hanayo was equally shocked and even more nervous when she saw that you had arrived. She hadn't at all expected you to come. It would totally throw her off guard. After collecting herself and remembering that she only had until midnight to pop the question, she would approach you and in the politest manner ask you to dance. As the night progressed, Hanayo would begin to open up to you, glad to be living the dream that she had always had: the night she finally got to see you up close and talk to you. She'd be totally lost in her attraction to you until her adviser reminded her that it was only 1 minute until midnight. Stumbling through panic and nerves, Hanayo would ask you to marry her right there and then. She couldn't believe her ears when you accepted the offer. She finally felt as though her life was truly beginning.
"Y/N, for the longest time, I have admired you. I'm sorry I didn't have the courage to say it before. But I just have to say it now...please, will you marry me?!"
Tumblr media
RIN
This girl goes straight to the point. She has been waiting for this moment all her life, ever since she met you as a child. She always knew it in her heart that you were the one for her. And she was going to make sure that her asking you to marry her way so thrilling that you couldn't possibly say no. Silently guiding you away from the crowd, she'd lead you out to the garden, kicking off her shoes and running away barefoot, begging you to come catch her. Once you did, the clock striking midnight in that moment, she'd slam her lips into yours, sliding the ring that had been hiding in her glove onto your finger, a smile spreading across her face as she looked you in the eye. Her plan worked. You couldn't bring yourself to say no. You didn't want to. She made sure that the wedding was ready to be held the next day.
"It's midnight, and I got the ring on your finger! You know what that means! Come on, let's get married!"
Tumblr media
MAKI
There was no way the lovely Princess Nishikino had invited you to the ball! And yet, she had. Though she denied wanting to. Maki's heart would be racing away inside her chest as you approached her. You couldn't tell what she was thinking. That aside, the dance began. Her grip on you was firm, as though she was telling you not to go anywhere. And as the dance went on, you both began to know why. Maki didn't at all bring her feet to a halt when she asked you the question.
"Well, it's obvious that we both have it figured out now. So, what's your answer? Are you willing to marry me? Speak. I don't have all night."
Tumblr media
NICO
Princess Yazawa wouldn't touch a commoner even if her life depended on it. But after you made that compliment on her singing and the offering of gold you had found all while keeping your head down I respect for her, she felt as though she would be fine making an exception for you. Ordering her messengers to hunt you down and bring you to her on the night of the ball, Nico would wait patiently in her throne, ignoring all others who offered their hands to her. When the doors finally swung open to reveal you, she would not hide her smile for even a second. Stand up, she commanded you to come take her hand in a dance, and at the end of the night confidently announce your marriage to her. Your selflessness despite how poor you were had totally won her heart.
"Keeping me waiting, eh? Well, waiting or not, it took you long enough. Whatever. Get over here! I have a plan for you! One dance, and then our marriage! And you better not refuse!"
Tumblr media
NOZOMI
You had always been wary of the mysterious princess, and you were even more baffled upon receiving her invitation to the ball. Not wanting to be rude to her highness, you dug up the best outfit you had, tied up your hair and made your way to the event. There, Princess Tojo was smiling at everyone like she usually does, but when she saw you, her smile changed. It became bigger and brighter, making you focus on it so much that you almost didn't notice her beckoning for you to come to her with a single finger. You approached her as she asked, and were about to bow to her when she stopped you from doing so. You looked up to see that same smile on her face. Guiding you to dance floor, she savored every moment of her night with you before leading you away to her quarters where she had more in mind for you than just a dance. You woke up with a ring on your finger the next morning.
"(Y/N), I've been waiting for you. No need to bow, but trust me, I do appreciate your utmost respect. Please, will you share a dance with me? After that, I'd like to have a chat with you...privately. I that understood? Come now, let's enjoy ourselves. We only have until midnight. And my royal cards tell me that something fortunate will happen for both of us then. Do you wonder what it could be?"
Tumblr media
ELI
Why on Earth would Princess Ayase the Great invite you to her grand ball? You had only one way to find out. Arriving at the event, the first thing you saw was her glorious majesty on her throne, displaying her natural beauty that was easily equal to that of a goddess. You'd be so lost in her looks and charisma that she'd amusedly ask her guards to go fetch you and bring you to her. Once they did, she'd immediately assure you that you weren't in trouble and make a compliment on your efforts at dressing nicely. Overwhelmed by that night, what felt like a fever dream, you bowed down at her majesty's feet and showered her in compliments. She wouldn't be able to handle your cuteness, helping you up herself while laughing. To take your mind off of the sudden shock, she would invite you to dance with her, and wouldn't at all mind spending the night with you, humbly thrilled when you finally summoned the courage to propose. Eli had been hoping you would ask.
"No need to be nervous, please, rise. I'm very humbled to have you here. I've been wanting to get to know you. Please, may I have this dance?"
@A-Qing: I'm honestly a bit at a loss for words, so I'm really sorry if this ends up being a ramble or shorter than intended, actually. It's no exaggeration to say I was moved to tears by your response too, so let me try to take this one chunk at a time.
Don't worry, I know it was a joke, but all the same I've just been overcome with this need to apologize. It isn't with the intention to be forgiven, though people have been incredibly kind (that means you, too!), but just because I feel it needs to be said. I actually shared a memory on here where I one day found a bunch of pebbles nicely wrapped inside my stash instead of the candy it was meant to be, and I really didn't take it badly. I liked sharing, when I could, but you're right. The impulse to hoard it was there! And it's still here in this life, because family members have a really bad habit of eating my stuff if I leave it unattended. Ah well. I don't mean to be stingy. I just need to be warned first.
The clarity of looking back and seeing these things documented is nice, and it helps us see where we may or may not have messed up, but trust me, you telling him was the right move. What else were you supposed to do? All roads led to the exact same place in the end. Maybe that's pessimistic, but I think we both agree on that, based on the rest of your message. You were very brave for that, and for tailing me for so long and keeping people away from me. You're right, you weren't a cultivator, you were just a young woman (and a dead one at that), and that's what makes it all the more impressive. Don't undervalue yourself!
No, I figured you wouldn't have been happy to know me, haha. It's weird, and this might seem totally false, but I didn't dislike you. Quite the opposite, I had way less conflicting feelings about you than I did Daozhang. I'm sorry I got thrown in front of you both like that- but at the same time, those happy times we did manage to have are close to my heart, and there's nothing I can really do about that. All the guilt and the pain and the shame can't get rid of that. As much as I could feel something healthy for another, I felt for you, even if I couldn't really recognize it. I'm really grateful for that. I've run this to the ground, but that was the closest I came to having a family. Daozhang sort of just adopted us both and I couldn't not roll with it.
I appreciate your point of view on having to die; it is a little selfish of me, but I didn't really want to be alone. It doesn't make it right. More than anything, though, the fact you're here registers more as survival to me. I wasn't, uh, well. At all. And that's why I know it wouldn't have held up. Being with you two made me feel better, but it took two years for me to really, truly manage to shut off my brain to that degree- and then in an instant it was all gone. All it took was a second. It wasn't your fault, it wasn't Daozhang's or Song Daozhang's. It was just inevitable. Too many factors were at play for it to have gone well.
But that doesn't mean things can't go well now! I am again tearing up a little at the mere fact you'd want to see my perspective, it's definitely not an easy one. Especially not for me. For as powerful and in control as I felt, I really wasn't. Imagine dozens of tiny whispers inside your brain, pressing down and making your ears ring. Imagine your head hurting and buzzing like flies. Whenever the high would wear off, I'd come so close to just collapsing sometimes due to how exhausted I felt. I had a sort of predisposition to the whole thing, but it still took its toll. But like I said, with you guys it began to quiet down gradually, like a sort of detox. It just sadly wasn't enough, and it got so, so much worse once it was just me.
It's okay if you're not ready to reach out on a more personal level. I'm not going anywhere, and I'm already being more than spoiled by getting responses from you at all. In the end it doesn't really matter if you're from my memories, because you took the time to reach out to me and make me feel appreciated, understood, and less alone. I feel your support and I appreciate it more than anything! It took me like, two years to even put out a call, so I understand being nervous and am not gonna pressure you into anything, because just like we've both said now, just knowing you're here is enough. I'm happier than I can put into words. I'm relieved, I'm overjoyed, I'm not even worried about coming off as cringey or weird because god, there was just so much I couldn't do and show then, and now I can.
Thank you for being in my life, then and now. Thank you for stopping me. Thank you for eating candy with me. Thank you for making me smile and laugh. Thank you for sending these asks. Thank you. -#🍬👿
