the ideal ref folder has : face closeups, in side profile, front, 3/4, (faceclaim is very helpful if there is any) same for the body, ref sheet or at least a good indication of the character's body type, body language, and style. same with clothes. and a .txt file where you write your idea + where are some specific details like their scars, or facial hair, birthmarks etc, and any info you think might be relevant<3 and a clear pose reference if possible

once i start the commission, i'll kinda disappear for a week or more, then come back with w.i.ps, i will ask you if there's anything you want to change

sometimes it can take a lot longer than planned and sometimes it can be quick.... you just can never know, so just be prepared for that eventuality.

ok this is the pettiest i will be about this because obv if i didn't care i'd just move the fuck on, and i SHOULDN'T care, so let this be my last little 'hoorah' on this with a little added note that i think all of y'all should consider (whether you enjoy my content or not)

rachel has all the freedom to make this comic and make more off it than i'd ever dream of making off my own work (which is like, damn, you go girl, get that coin), that's her choice to do so and none of us can take that way from her nor should we feel like trying lol literally, she's not obligated to care about what I or anyone else thinks because a lot of us are people who just spend way too much of our free time talking about this comic.

but it's our time to spend. we don't tell the fans of this comic how to spend their time discussing it and gushing over it, we can't take that away from you either, more power to you if you can love this work unconditionally.

So I'm thinking about doing Business

I'm going to experimentally pay for Tumblr's "Blaze" on one of my posts to see what the effect is, if any. I don't plan to use it often, but if I'm using this site as part of my silly little content creator job, maybe it makes sense to advertise some things?

I don't even know what it would make sense to use that feature on, either... posts with my official video releases? Stuff like that article I wrote about the experience of going viral? ... posts about my merch store? (oh god I don't want to advertise the merch store, I haven't added anything to it in ages).

Anyway, if you see one of my posts with a "promoted" tag on it, that's why. Just figuring out if that's something that should be part of my job on here. There are some extended personal reflections on using Tumblr for My Job™ below the cut.

On the other hand, Twitter was never that much of a Business Platform for me, either. That site and app is insanely bad at driving traffic anywhere else, which is part of why its ad revenue was so low depite the huge user base. Getting people to click away from Twitter to anywhere else is like pulling teeth, even for people with million dollar marketing budgets, and so I just... kinda never tried, really. Partly because it never seemed worth the work, partly because it was my personal Twitter before it accidentally became my Business Twitter.

Tumblr in that regard is different though. Four years ago, someone posted an outtake from a shitpost video I did laughing myself half to death over an article about how millennials are killing mayonnaise. That outtake went some degree viral on Tumblr, and that virality did prompt a lot of people to go find the full video on YouTube, making it briefly the most successful video on my whole channel.

So I dunno. Maybe it makes sense to use Tumblr for Business™ in that way. Not that I think I can manufacture a viral hit, of course, but maybe paying to have my work shown to more people on here could be worth it? I guess I'll find out once that Blaze goes through the moderation.

It sorta ties in with a broader pre-post-Twitter reflection I've been having about how I use social media, though.

I don't want to be my job

My personal twitter became my business twitter entirely by accident, and while it was fun at first to have thousands of followers on my personal shitposting, it wasn't fun at all in the long run. At a certain point, usually somewhere past the 10k follower boundary (or if you had the misfortune of having a pre-Elon checkmark), people stop treating you like a person or a fellow poster, and start treating you like a brand, a celebrity (however minor), like a Public Figure. And on the one hand that's good, kinda, because if you have a larger platform, you do deserve more scrutiny. On the other hand, it means you can't be a person on your own social media.

Dark humor, in-jokes, dumb shitposts with friends, dunking on some random hot take, all of that starts to come with the danger that some stranger, who is determined to misunderstand what you post in the absolute worst possible faith, will see it and start yelling about it.

And if, as a person who has a bigger platform, you yell back at them, or dunk on their bullshit... yeah, there's a real risk that you're the one being the bigger asshole, actually. When you have a big Twitter audience, you have some responsibilty for what happens to the things you put in front of that audience. And if you have fans, they might want to defend you, and if you have a lot of fans, some percentage of them aren't going to know how to act or where the line is, and go way the fuck too far.

It's the reality of having a public profile. People will come at you in absolutely wild ways, accusing you of saying absolutely insane things that they have derived from truly deranged (often willful) misinterpretations, and you can't respond to that like a person responds, or you run the risk of being the one who does more harm.

And so you can't be a person on your social media anymore. You now have to be a Public Figure, and if you don't figure that out you're gonna get in trouble. I should have made a private friends-only account on Twitter far, far earlier than I did, I should have made an official brand account far, far earlier than I did. But the only way to know that is in hindsight.

... which leads me back to Tumblr. I've been thinking about Doing Business™ on Tumblr - Blazing my posts, doing SEO, promoting my brand and all that other shit that technically comes with the job I ostensibly have.

I fled back here when I saw Twitter start to torch itself, because I need to post somewhere, but do I need to post for myself, as a person?

Or do I need to post because I am TBSkyen the YouTuber and posting is part of my job, my brand and my online personality which I crafted as a layer of separation between myself and the audience but which has at this point become so entangled with my real self that I don't know the boundaries between them anymore?

Am I going to look back on this and realize, as I did on Twitter, that I should have made a private, friends-only Tumblr account right from the start, and not mixed the personal with the professional and with Posting? I have around 2000 followers right now and this is still fun and casual, but what happens if I manage to luck myself into a real following again? When am I going to dunk on something I think is dumb and cause the person who posted it to receive actionable threats because someone who likes my videos doesn't know how the fuck to act?

Anyway, this is the kind of shit that gets powerblasted through my brain when I pay $10 to make some more people see one of my posts on a website - how's your morning going?

Welcome to my blog.

I’m Redley. Relatively new to Tumblr still, but I’ve been finding that I’m comfy here. Though it still feels awkward (thanks, dysphoria), I prefer she/her pronouns. I don’t mind they/them, but… meh. Note that Redley is neither my legal or chosen name; it is solely a handle, and I will only tell you my chosen name if I feel comfortable with you. Here’s the main stuff I’m comfortable sharing or want you to know about me:

1) I’m transfem, but haven’t had an opportunity to do much actual transitioning yet. Dislike my voice, adore my hair. My luscious, glorious, flowing hair.

1.5) I am likely pansexual, but I haven’t done enough research to know for sure. All I know is, people are… well, people are hot.

2) I live in Florida, but was not raised here. The climate and scenery are nice; the local government sucks ass though. Also, I miss snow.

3) I’m a diagnosed autistic, falling somewhere on the high-functioning end of the spectrum. I’m on prescribed antidepressants, but have not been able to find a psychologist/psychiatrist yet because it’s fucking Florida.

4) There are a lot of things and people I don’t understand, but I’m always open to learning. Trying new food is a special passion of mine, and I’ve met some quite fascinating new people since starting this blog. (*eoughck* @potentially-a-poser *aucghk* @analogue-system *ahem*)

5) I will not tolerate hateful behavior. You will be immediately blocked for shit like denying any of the shades of aro/ace individuals as being part of the LGBTQIA+ community. If you see me spreading misinformation or saying something that excludes members of the community, please tell me. I’ll research the matter, as well as review any sources you send me.

5.5) okay so I think I’m demiromantic

6) I do not mind being tagged or sent asks or otherwise brought into conversations. People who abuse that will likely get blocked, but whatever your social anxiety is telling you probably comes nowhere near ‘abuse’ in my book. Anonymous asks are enabled, but that can likewise change if the feature is abused. Hate asks will be blocked, naturally.

7) I would prefer being asked before you directly message me. If you don’t, there is a possibility you’ll be blocked, but it’s not a guarantee. I don’t want me and my friends’ conversations getting buried by anything.

8) If you consistently and frequently post tiktok/reddit memes with little to no commentary, I may block you simply out of annoyance should you repeatedly show up on my dash. It’s not personal. If something about you makes me suspicious or uncomfortable, but not outright offended, I’ll most likely notify you of my reason before I block you.

9) Age: pick a number between 1 and 100 because it’s none of your fucking business. None of you are entitled to any of my personal information, regardless of the reason. I will share only what I want.

My Behaviors

There are certain things I gravitate towards or away from on this site. Here’s some:

1) I am most likely to follow people who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, are mentally ill, or are dealing with some variety of personality disorder. This is mostly just due to the fact that I find the most common ground with those people. But even those who I have little common ground with, I’ll tend to find very interesting.

2) I don’t mind things like roleplay and hornyposting on my dash, but will almost certainly not interact myself, or make original posts in that category. More extreme examples won’t necessarily get you blocked or unfollowed, but… well, my filtered tags list may grow.

3) I don’t always tag reblogs. This may mean that my followers will see random things that caught my interest. It could be art, shitposting, tender affirmations, politics, or just goofy-ass Tumblr shit. If something I regularly reblog/post about bothers you and isn’t properly tagged, let me know.

4) I am discovering that maybe, I might, perhaps, be a little bit nosy. When I see someone receiving hate or suffering and stressed, I am likely to take it upon myself to do or say something to try to make them feel better. If I bother you with this, I will not be hurt or offended if you block me. In general, I will do my best to be respectful of it when people draw boundaries, so don’t hesitate to draw any you feel necessary.

5) If your intentions are pure, you will likely find that I try to be forgiving and/or understanding of your mistakes, at least in regards to interacting with me. (The /or is a very important distinction.)

6) I will often be attracted to dark, tragic, or dystopic works of art/fiction. I get a form of catharsis from such media, and some of my writing will reflect that.

That’s about it.

That’s all the important stuff I can think of, aside from tags which are at the end. Still, this post may be updated or rewritten in the future. In general, just be kind and open-minded, and we’ll get along fine. Even if you disagree with me, as long as you are civil and rational about things, I’ll likely have no problem interacting with you.

Welcome to my blog where I document my descent into mental insanity. If you forced me to give this blog a label I'd say it's fandom-centric but I post a lot of other diverse stuff too, such as memes/shitposts, art, photography, so on. I also want to post about my original characters + their story. I am an artist but I don't post it often because of how long it takes and I don't really do sketches, so I post other things in the meantime. I try to stay away from intra-community discourse or general negative topics because it just makes me sad, and this blog is meant to be a form of escapism from my problems not a reminder of them. But of course I don't entirely ignore those things, so watch out for that if you don't wanna see it either. (Lots more under cut)

On stuff I actually like, you can just check my highlighted tags to see what I'm most into at the moment but there are more that I don't post often so I feel like I should address all of them at once. In fictional media, I like Bioshock (current hyperfixation), Pokemon (previous hyperfixation), Resident Evil but I don't really consider myself to be apart of the fandom because I don't play for the story or characters (I do like. Some of them though), Nexomon (previous hyperfixation), Fran Bow, Outlast, Amnesia. On fandom stuff, I'll talk a lot about the thing I'm currently hyperfixated on or have a special interest in, which for the moment is Bioshock (wow what a surprise). I mostly make shitposts, but I sometimes make serious analyses mostly on stuff I don't like because theres a lot more for me to say there, I don't do it to be negative I do it because it's fun to talk about. My brain for some reason is incapable of being hyperfixated on more than one thing at a time (I define hyperfixate by thinking about one thing 24/7 and making it about everything not *just* liking something a lot) and it can flip-flop often, so I apologize if you followed me for one specific fandom and then I got hyperfixated on something else. I never stop being deranged about a piece of media though, it just lays dormant like a sleeper agent waiting to be awakened again.

I know I said I don't like posting discourse but people apparently care about this stuff. I really, really hate DNIs because they're entirely redundant for a multitude of reasons, so instead of saying "if you are this thing then kys I hate you" like all DNIs do, because I cannot stop you from interacting I'm just going to list off things I do not support so if you do support said things I am going to block you because there are definitely things I have strong opinions on. All kinds of bigotry I shouldn't have to say. Exclusion/hatred of any queer group that's "acceptable" to shit on because reasons x y z (multisexuals, nonbinary people, aspecs, polyamorous people, queerhets, transmascs/trans men). I don't care for either side of "shipcourse" but if you are an antishipper or a proshipper and you harass ANYONE or justify harassment, please get a hobby and don't bother me. I think I have the opposite aesthetic opinions from you when it comes to decades. I love the unintentional tackiness of the 50s-60s-70s and also the 90s, and I'm very much put off by the intentional dignity of the previous decades. I guess for me I'm much more inclined to warm up to something when it shows off the silly and harmless ways in which it's "flawed", and I'm put off by things that are too intentionally serious. I guess it's because an aesthetic of credibility makes it harder to discern actual credibility at a glance, whereas an aesthetic of non-credibility accurately represents the fact that most of the world just isn't very credible, and makes it easier to perk up when I see a tall patch of real credibility standing out for a moment.

The 80s were very slick and adroit but also non-credible, I feel. So I quite like that decade also.

(Hate hate hate the 1800s. Worst century in the history of aesthetics. They should have torn down all those awful awful brick eyesores and replaced them with brutalist concrete when they had the chance.)

Yeah I think this gets at what a lot of people like about those decades, the kitsch. I think I kind of hate kitsch. Or, well, I don't hate it, but I like things that take themselves seriously. Actually I made about about that very idea a while ago, it made the rounds and you should be able to find it in my #navel gazing tag if you're curious. I feel like the decades I like have an aesthetic that takes itself seriously, and I like that, and I dislike things that don't take themselves seriously (in a certain sense of that phrase).

Or like. Well obviously my shitposts don't take themselves seriously. Except I think they kinda do for the sense in which I'm using that phrase? My shitposts are like the 80s. Self-conscious (but not ironic) trash. They know what they are and they attempt to be what they are. What I don't like about kitsch, I think, is that it doesn't know what it is, it doesn't know how it's perceived. Like ugly sweaters... they think they're non-ugly sweaters! 70s fake wood paneling thinks that it looks classy! But it doesn't.

80s action figures and big hair and shit know what they are. They don't think they're something they're not. 1920s gramophones and shit are trying to look nice and achieving it. They're made of nice materials and shit. Metal and wood. Right, I think that may be what it is, the execution.

So actually I think you and I may have similar tastes "under the hood" and just be interpreting things differently. Or maybe not. Old shit is credible because it says "I'm high class, expense, well made" and then actually is. Not that there wasn't cheap shit, but even the cheap shit was made of tin. 80s shit says "I'm goofy trash lol" and then it is. Mid-century shit says "I'm high class, expense, well made" and then it's goofy trash, it's fake wood paneling. That's what I think I don't like. I'm probably repeating myself from previous posts.

i have a question for you all.

as you may know, one of my niche special interests is in fashion dolls. however, i am acutely aware that this niche is not for everyone. i try to be very diligent about tagging every post with an image of a real life doll in it as #dolls in case you want to filter the tag to avoid seeing the dolls.

that being said, if i were to start posting more of my doll pictures on my blog, would that be a turn off for anyone? i was considering making a sideblog for that specific niche, but I've already been posting about it on this blog, and im curious to know how it would affect my current followers, since i have no idea how many of you follow me for doll content, or if anyone filters the tag to avoid unfollowing me, or if yall straight up dont care. so: poll time!

i think that about covers the scope of answers. doll photos would become most of the original content i post, since i dont make a lot of text posts, or post photos of myself or the art im not making.

my dolls are a creative outlet for me, lower effort than drawing from scratch, and i spend a lot of my free time thinking about them, so it would be nice to share it with you all, but i dont want to alienate any of my beloved mutuals or long time followers who are here to see other fandoms or shitposts. so please let me know what you think!

Just a long vent about a specific niche fandom. Don't read if you don't want to hear me rant.

I just need to vent here for a little bit, and I am sorry if this i all incoherent.

I hate what fandom has become. What tumblr has become. What I have become.

I never used to be this way and never used to feel anger before, or jealousy or those 'ugly' feelings, as I was never allowed to. Being raised by a narcissist, you become a people pleaser and you learn quickly that you are never to show any negative emotions. Anger isn't permitted, disgust and unhappiness isn't permitted. As a good slave you don't need to have these emotions, so you learn to supress them to the point where you aren't ever feeling them consciously.

So all of this is so new to me. To actually f*cking hate the guts of some people on here. To fucking hate that they are so damn popular when all they do is shitposting and meme-ing the one that means so much to me to death. And even blocking them won't do a thing because tumblr still shows me their shit, or some fan is gushing about their stuff where I see it, and it just annoys the piss out of me. The tag I used to browse has been rendered useless to me here on tumblr. I long for the days when I was able to just see some nice art of him alone or serious discussions about him, like character analyses, or sharing obscure facts about him.

I don't even know why exactly it pisses me off so much - and I don't want to be the "Fun Police" here; everyone should still be able to do as they please and make whatever the fuck they want on their tumblr blogs, even if it is shitposting. Even if their stories don't make any logical sense at all.

I guess... I just wish Fandom wasn't so dumb with what ultimately are just headcanons. They are taking those stories as if they are canon when they are just fan creations, to the point where they harrass other creators who might come up with other things. For example, if you hate on Mewtwo x Newtwo because it would be "incest", then you are WRONG, because canonically, it was never proven that they were siblings. Canonically, there is no reason to think that Mew is the Mother who actually gave birth to Mewtwo (if you follow the movie-verse, that is. In the games, she did give birth to Mewtwo).

And sure, I realize that me criticising those fan creations is also taking headcanons way too seriously, but... I can't explain it entirely. I just want to be able to state my opinions. Be the one person that isn't always congratulating them on every creation, but also points out the flaws in their storytelling so that they, I dunno, may improve? I am frustrated that I can't even do that - I was told to shut up, or post my opinions on my blog only, probably so that my thoughts aren't seen by anyone and get buried. But I am fucking tired of that. I grew to hate being invisible. I hate making myself small for the benefit of others. Can't I be loud and angry for once in my life? Even if it is on the internet about something stupid? For once in my life, can't I voice my disdain for something after a lifetime of not being allowed to? After AvPD makes this nigh impossible of a feat for me?

One dissenting voice won't harm the popular creators anyway - they have thousands of adoring fans who will wholeheartedly take anything they make and not question it at all. They will go on and create what they want anyway, so what hurt does it do to say "hey, maybe this idea needs some ironing out because it doesn't make sense?"

On another note, I wish that if anyone here has a problem with me to not harrass people that may know me/are friends with me. I saw some anon going around and complaining about me to them - I'd rather you take your complaints to me directly than to them, since they got nothing to do with what I create or do.

For example, I saw someone who told an acquaintance of mine that it is hypocritical of me that I have Babytwos but "attack" others for doing the same. Listen, it is not that others have Babytwos that I critiqued, it's the METHOD of having them via a flower pregnancy when Mew is not a plant type and Mewtwo isn't either. It doesn't make any sense and I should be allowed to say at least that much without getting bullied in turn. That is really all I ask for. Getting Babytwos via cloning, test tubes, artifical insemination at least makes sense. Other than that, go ham and make as many Babytwos as you all want!

I also got told that I am not the owner of Mewtwo the character. Thank you, I know that. Where have I claimed I was? And if I feel a bit possessive over him, well, I got a damn reason for that. He saved me from unaliving myself TWICE. Thus he means a lot to me. I have been in love with him genuinely for 23 years. He is my guiding light. And while it is funny to see the occasional joke with him or a shitpost here and there, if it is constant, it just feels like you are treating him as nothing more than a joke. To me, he isn't a joke, he saved my life. I wouldn't have been posting on tumblr or anywhere at all since 2017 if it wasn't for him. So excuse me if I am a bit possessive over him.

Overall, I just wish people weren't so trigger-happy to take a contrary opinion as an attack immediately. I am not attacking anyone. You will never find me sending any hate DMs or Hate asks to anyone. I don't do that shit.

And if you hate me, you are free to do that too. I know that not everyone likes me. I know there are some people who wish I WAS dead. Or who think that I have ruined Mewtwo for them with my selfship. I mean, I got plenty of "Ew Bestiality" back in the day, if that is any indication. And it's not much of a change in the status quo anyhow. My own parents hate me, I got bullied in school when I was younger, so I am used to being disliked or hated. It used to hurt me back then, but by now I learned that giving a fuck really isn't worth it. I used to want to please everyone and make everyone happy. It used to destroy me when anyone told me they don't like me. Like, it CRUSHED me. But now? I realize that no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to please everyone. Some sadistic fucks may even get off on you trying that and failing. And many people I considered friends only turned out to just use me because of my people-pleasing tendencies.

So, fuck it. If the world is going to hate me anyway, the least I can do is to do whatever the fuck I want and whatever makes me happy. Deal with it.
