You spot Josh and Rachel wearing Santa hats, exchanging cheerful greetings with the crew. “Everyone’s in the spirit,” You chuckle as Tom comes up behind you, slotting his arm around your shoulder as you wave to people.

“Mhm, couldn’t agree more- Is that Viola in a grinch costume-“ Tom couldn’t even finish his sentence before the two of you start bursting out in laughter at the sight. You pull Tom with you as you walk towards her.

After filming a few scenes here and there, you and Tom sat on one of the chairs that were littered around the set. Your legs were ontop of Tom’s as you both laugh at a tiktok that you were showing him.

Suddenly, Rachel approached with a mischievous grin, her phone in her hands pointed directly at you. “Oh, would you look at that? Mistletoe!” she exclaimed, pointing above your head as both you and Tom look up, catching Josh holding a mistletoe above the two of you with a grin matching his girlfriend.

The crew members nearby chuckled, and Josh chimed in, “Guess tradition says you two have to share a Christmas kiss under the mistletoe!” He makes obnoxious kissing sounds as you cover your face in slight embarrassment, only peeking through your fingers to see Rachel’s phone still pointing at you.

You exchanged amused glances with Tom, both of you caught off guard but playing along. “Well, I suppose we shouldn’t break tradition,” Tom said with a wink, his British accent adding a touch of charm.

Under the mistletoe, surrounded by people you considered your family, you and your boyfriend shared a lighthearted, staged kiss, eliciting cheers and whistles from the crew. Cameras clicked, capturing the festive moment that would undoubtedly make its way into the behind-the-scenes footage.

As you pulled away, Rachel couldn’t resist teasing, “Ah, the magic of Christmas on set!” Tom chuckled, “Who knew mistletoe would find its way into the Hunger Games universe?”

The crew continued their work, but the festive spirit lingered. Throughout the day, more mistletoe moments were orchestrated with different cast members, each adding a touch of holiday cheer to the set which was amusing for fans to watch.

I didn't know that," she said in a different tone this time. "Ugh yea, well I got to go, my boyfriend is probably waiting for me," you said giving her an awkward smile & heading out.

When you returned you saw Jake had already ordered your drink. You thanked him with a kiss. Just then you saw the same girl you met in the bathroom, sitting across the bar. You made eye contact with her but you saw her gaze shift to your boyfriend. So you shifted your chair closer to him. "Babe~" you called for him rather loudly making sure the girl could hear you, & interlocked your hands together. "Yea babe," he replied turning to you. You didn't respond instead you just kissed him. Jake was a little taken aback, but then later his hands found their way to your waist & deepened the kiss. After a few minutes of making out, you pulled away. "So mind telling me what that was about sweetheart," he asked. "It's nothing, that girl was just staring at you," you said slightly pouting. "Aww is my baby jealous~" he teased you, "Shut up," you said rolling your eyes at him.

"Hi!" you heard a voice. "Speaking of the devil," you thought rolling your eyes, chugging down another drink. It was the girl from earlier. You would have thought that the make-out session you had earlier would have been enough for her to get the hint & stop staring at your boyfriend. You turned to your boyfriend & the girl, you placed your hand on Jake's thigh as a sign for the girl to get lost but it seemed like she wasn't taking the hint.

Jake sensed your jealousy & decided to tease you a bit. "So do you come here often?" he asked smiling at the girl. You hated the fact he was smiling so sweetly to the girl. "Yea actually, this is one of my favorite bars," she replied giving him a smile back. "Oh really, I;ve never seen a pretty girl like you around here," he replied back. Your eyes almost popped out of your skull. You couldn't believe your own boyfriend was flirting back at the girl. You quickly removed your hand from his thigh & ordered two tequila shots & chugged them down in seconds. You didn't have enough alcohol in your system to deal with this bullshit. "Speaking of pretty girls, your girlfriend is really pretty," she replied. "Yea I know," he said chuckling.

She moved from his side & came closer to you, "She might be too pretty for you actually," she said chuckling softly. You just stared at her confused. "You know I could probably treat you better than him," she said softly tucking your hair behind your ears. You were slowly realizing what was happening. "I could be a better boyfriend than him. I could do the shit he never did," she said slowly running her hand through your hair. "I really couldn't help but think how much I wanted to steal you from him, how I could make you feel so much better than him," she said coming closer to you & whispering in your ears. You would be lying if you said her words had zero effect on you, you could feel the goosebumps rise on your skin even though your body was hot. "I don't need to tell you twice, all the ways he can't suffice. If I could give you some advice, I would leave with me tonight," she said winking at you.

You were processing all this but before you could reply, she was pulled away from your boyfriend who was currently fuming. "Yea, no chance. I know my girl is gorgeous but I don't like sharing & she's mine so I suggest you back off & find someone else," she said glaring at the girl. The girl just scoffed, rolling her eyes & walked away.

"Come on, we're leaving," he said pulling your hand & walking out of the parking lot. "You didn't feel like leaving when you were flirting with that girl earlier," you said glaring at him. "Baby I know, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I thought it would be funny to tease you," he said placing kisses all over your face. "Please I'm sorry," he said pouting. "You better make it up to me," you said "Of course love," he said smirking" & trust me it'll be way better than whatever she could offer you," he finished with a wink, pulling you into a kiss.

“I don’t really get the appeal.” Laura paused as she overheard her coworkers, lurking behind the kitchen door as she eavesdropped. “It’s just a band, you know? And it’s not like their music is all that unique.” Laura gritted her teeth. She didn’t like where this was heading.

“Yeah, well, that’s the point of those sorts of pop groups. Have a range of pretty boys or cutesy girls to choose who to have a crush on and then convince their adoring fans that their love and appreciation can be bought in the form of an album. Kpop does it, boy bands do it, girl groups do it. It’s just the formula of pop music.” The bakery was empty of customers, a slow day in the middle of the work week, and Laura’s coworkers were leaning against the counter as they chatted. Laura was meant to be taking stock in the fridge, but she was too invested now in listening to what her coworkers had to say about her beloved band. She could feel her face growing hotter as she pursed her lips.

“Yeah. I guess you’re right. Whatever sells more records, I guess,” the first coworker agreed. Laura trembled as she fought the urge to butt into the conversation. How dare they be so cynical about your work. She listened to every song religiously, and she knew that what they said couldn’t be true. Those songs had real meaning, and they were so perfectly polished and mastered. She knows you’d never put out a song that was just a cash grab, right?

“The music doesn’t bother me so much. It’s catchy and all. What creeps me out is the way they act around fans, you know?”

“You mean like, pretending to give a crap about them?”

“Yeah, exactly. Forcing smiles at meet and greets, deliberately not looking in any one direction so every fan thinks they’re looking straight at them, saying how much they love all these people they’ve never met. I mean, it’s manipulative.” Laura felt a hot stream of tears pouring down her face as she shook with anger. You’d never do such a thing to her, because you really did love her, and you did look her at her that fateful day at the concert. She knew it was real, it had to be real!

“I guess Laura’s just too naive to realise that it’s all manufactured. Or we’re too cynical.” Both of them chuckled, and Laura stormed off unnoticed, going back to the walk in fridge to continue taking stock. She seethed as she made note of everything, pressing her pencil so hard against the paper that the lead snapped and pinged into a corner, rendering the pencil useless. She groaned in frustration and tried to wipe her tears away with the sleeves of her chef’s jacket. Her stupid coworkers didn’t know anything. She knew you loved her, that you were soulmates. She knew that you wouldn’t just let some marketing team mix up songs for you with no care for it as art. She pulled out her phone and looked at the picture of you she’d slipped into the back of her clear phone case. If only you were here now - everything would be fine. You’d wipe her tears away and probe that you did care. She found a clear spot to lean against, and she let her mind wander, tuning out of reality and her work and daydreaming instead about the one dream she wishes would come true; for you to come into her bakery, immediately smitten with her, and whisk her away from all her problems.

Chapter 4: Noodles

Word count: 1183 words Trigger warning/s: suicidal ideation, drugs, sex, bullying, swearing.

Slapbands were going for twenty bucks to get into Dustin’s party on the weekend. I heard his Dad even got security as if he’s Justin Bieber or something.

Today, Ant’s weed gummies were not going to do the trick. I needed to suck that sweet ganja straight into my lungs. Where was Cash when you needed him? Not that he sold weed but, surely he had something.

As I sat at our table - alone - I saw it all unfold. Some kid threw Amerie’s bag on the ground, Dusty helped her pick up her shit, she was in love with him and he had no idea.

Honestly, this school get's more incestuous by the day.

“Hey!” Amerie called as she ran down the hall toward me. This chick has no fucking chill whatsoever.

“Hey, Vas” she said trying to catch her breath. “Hi,” I don’t think I had spoken to Amerie since 8th grade science.

“Hey, I was wondering if maybe I could buy a slapband from you? I’m good for it. I can transfer you the money right now,” she said. She looked in her bag for the phone that she was holding in her hand.

She was not getting a slapband from me. It was not worth the shit I’d get from Spider. “I reckon Spider would give you one if you asked nicely,” I replied.

I wondered if she knew that Spider has - or had - a crush on her. If she batted her eyelashes, I bet he’d cave.

“Oh, that’s a great idea,” she said as I walked away.

JoJo had some video about sharing noodles playing on the projector when I walked into the classroom. I flashed her my late slip as I took the empty seat next to Cash.

“What is this?” I asked him.

“A lesson on nudes,” he shurgged. 

“Are you having trouble following along?” I asked. It was a cunty thing to say but, I made a move on Cash in Year 9 and he turned me down. I later found out that he was gay and asexual. Anyway, I’d say his loss but, I was the only one still hung up on it.

“This is pornographic, Miss,” Spider said. JoJo looked mortified. If Ant’s mother knew this is what they were showing in class, she’d drown him in holy water.

Ant reckons he has a very recognisable dick. Sasha made the case that people have been sending nudes as an act of love for years and maybe she’s right. Missy reckons she’s hot shit and, to be fair, she is. All 5ft of her.

To shut us up, JoJo told us that we just had to keep our faces out of our nudes. Mum walked in and shut that shit down. She has the worst fucking timing ever.

As we were leaving the classroom, JoJo said “If you have any anonymous questions, put them in the box and we’ll answer them next time.” As if I need anymore stellar advice about my nudes.

“This class sucks,” Ant said. “Thanks, Map Bitch,” Spider said.

I found Mum in the gymnasium with JoJo and Jim. They were trying to get the dildo off the basketball hoop. It was like the school mascot at this point, I'd just leave it.

“We’re all dumber for having watched that video,” JoJo said.

“So not the issue, JoJo. You told our students to take naked pictures of themselves,” Mum said.

“That’s not what I said,” JoJo replied.

“That’s what they heard,” Mum said when she saw me, “Isn’t that right, Vas?” Before I could respond she said, “Vanessa, what are you doing here? Go to class.”

“I have detention,” I said watching Jim tickle the balls of the dildo with the end of a broom. God, he was an idiot.

“Right,” Mum said, “So, go.”

“No one’s in there,” I said.

“Oh for godsake,” she said, “Alright, I will call the office. You go to detention and, Jim, hide that fucking dildo.”

This school was a joke.

At lunch, Ant tried to sell the rest of the slap bands.

“She called him a mayonnaise fuck,” Ant laughed as he explained the encounter between Spider and Amerie in P.E.

“Did it turn him on?” I asked as I counted the change for Andy Bright.

“I reckon,” Ant said, handing Andy the slapband.

“He should’ve threw that fucking ball at her head,” I said.

“She’s alright,” Ant said. Ever the diplomat.

We made our rounds of the quad in awkward silence. The kid could usually talk underwater but, I guess things had changed. As we turned to pass the toilet block, he grabbed my arm and pulled me to a halt. “I’m sorry,” he said.

“For what?” I asked.

“The cemetery. I was drunk. I shouldn’t have got angry at you. I’m sorry,” he said.

“It’s fine,” I said as we began walking again. I could feel his eyes burning a hole in my head.

“I’m sorry too,” I said.

“What are you sorry for?” he looked confused.

“You were right. You’re my best mate and I should have told you. I should have asked for help, but,” 

“No. I should have sensed something was going on,” he said. This again. I do something stupid and he blames himself.

“Can we just put it behind us? I’m ok, really,” I said.

He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head. He was right. I should have thought about him and about Mum but, I didn’t. The only person I thought about was me.

When the bell rang, I said “Hey, I gotta to go to JoJo’s room.”

“SLTs is cancelled,” he said.

“Gotta get my drink bottle,” I said. “I’ll come,” he replied.

As we walked into JoJo’s room, she was there with Amerie. “You two look cosy,” Ant said from the doorway.

“Come on in,” JoJo said.

“Why?” Ant asked.

“Come in and sit down, Ant,” she said. She was sick of his shit from earlier.

“What for?” Ant asked, confused.

“You too, Vassa. Class is in session,” she said.

“What? She said it was cancelled,” I said. Amerie looked guilty as sin.

“SLTs is not cancelled,” JoJo confirmed, “we can do it now or we can do it after school.”

Ant looked at Amerie and said, “cunt.”

Even JoJo was shocked. Ant said fuck and shit and bitch like there was no tomorrow but, he reserved cunt for special occaisions and this was glorious.

“What is that? 5 Hail Mary’s?” I asked.

Ant clutched the cross around his neck. He was surely asking forgiveness from whatever God he believed in before his mother made him go to church for the 5th time this week.

Everyone, yet again, was furious at Amerie as they filed in for SLTs. Here we were in the worst class of the day sending toilet paper rolls around on a string. Original.

Ant caught my eye and pretended to jack off the toilet roll. JoJo saw and he got a lunchtime detention for making a mockery of her activity. I laughed because the only classroom management tool the teachers at this school knew of was giving kids detention and detention was full.

I think this is the third time I have been tagged to reveal my music… but I will do it a bit differently.

What is music? Emotions, memories, fantasies or simply the urge to get low and shake it like a polaroid picture. Therefore I will post the ten songs/artists I listened the most during the last weeks and how they made me feel.

1. Karliene - Atlantis, because it lets me feel the weightlessness of diving and shudder before the deep dark beautiful mystery we call ocean

2. Every song from Blackmore’s Night, can’t believe I only discovered them now. Each songs tells a different little story about love, adventure and magic in medieval worlds full of kings, dragons, fortune tellers, knights and roses.

3. Visions of Atlantis - Master the hurricane, because with pirate metal every little thing you do (ride a bike, do dishes, work, sleep) feels epic and dangerous and brave!

4. Walk the moon - Shut up and dance, because this song always makes me smile and dance around. Looks especially funny at work.

5. Faun and Eluveitie - Gwydion, this song simply reminds me a lot of Fanelia. It starts with crystal clear mystical singing about the magic of the forests and ends in a powerful battle cry which makes me see strong heroes swinging swords ⚔️

6. Delain - Queen of Shadow, I always liked that band. It has slightly cheesy lyrics but reminds me of my Goth Phase as a teen… which never really ended 🤔 except for the massiv overuse of black eyeliner.

7. Katy Perry - E.T but the version without the stupid male rap part, who needs that anyway? A song for the romantic Science Fiction heart! And a bit dirty too! Hehe 😉

8. ASP - De profundis, a creepy masterpiece which reminds me of sirens luring sailors into their watery grave or even more sinister dark things.

9. Every song from Beast in Black, because I can go jogging to their beat and it feels like a fun, colourful and heroic battle in the One Piece universe! Go Luffy!

10. Battle Beast - Eden, idk it’s just such a feel good power metal song which makes me imagine flying on wings I created myself ☺️

Not included are Nightwish, In Flames, Metallica, the Carmina Burana, Heaven shall burn, Two steps from hell, Volbeat and the Escaflowne OST.

What you said about celebrities getting locked in bad management because they don’t totally understand the business is something i’ve always thought about and have found interesting! Taylor definitely knows what she’s doing. I’ve always felt like Justin Bieber is an example of someone who got plucked up so incredibly young from an already unstable situation and became so seemingly close with his manager that he doesn’t have a say in much he does money wise. Or at least the lines are too blurred. To be fair that’s just an assumption I’m making based on him publicly bouncing from different churches to different friend groups, organizations etc, seemingly searching to belong somewhere, seems like he’d do exactly whatever these people who always get credit for “saving” him say to do. Obviously he’s fully an adult male (duh) but he’s had the same team since he was a developing child, It’s not unbelievable he’d essentially follow those same people to the ends of the earth. Seems Taylor made an unbelievably smart move just cutting ties and walking, it was also probably easier for her given she’s from a totally different family/financial situation (by that i mean infinitely more stable) than Justin was when he was discovered. She’s making an insane amount of money and seems to be the big picture winner and overall healthier mentally.

This was a mess, but it didn't go as badly as I thought it would. Of course, Mia wanted to get our marriage annulled, as I expected, but hearing her say it out loud made it more real. "So Lio has told me."

However, that didn't mean I couldn't try to change her mind. "Look, I want you to promise me something, and this needs to stay between us."

"It depends on what it is." She said crossing her arms over her chest, looking at me skeptically.

I took a deep breath and tried to sound as confident as possible. "I want you to promise me that you'll give me a chance. A chance to show you that we could be more than just friends."  "I don't know, it's complicated," she said, biting her lip. "But I'll think about it."

I want you to promise me that you won't tell anyone how I feel about Mia.

"Antonella, please," I begged, seeing her sigh and giving her head a nod for me to continue. "Can you not find out how to maybe not annul our marriage?" Her eyes widened in surprise at my request.

"I know it's a long shot, but I can't just give up on her without trying. Maybe if I spend more time with her, she'll start to see me in a different light. Or maybe she'll never feel the same way, and I'll have to accept that. But either way, I need to try. So please, promise me you won't say anything to anyone."

"You can't ask this of me, Neymar—especially to keep this from her," Anto said,

"I know."

"Do you?" She scoffed, " I understand that you want to pursue your feelings for her, but it's not fair to ask me to keep secrets from her. She deserves to know the truth and make her own decisions. I won't lie to her or keep anything from her. It's up to you to decide how you want to proceed, but I can't be a part of hiding anything from her."

"Look, I'm not saying to not help her; all I'm asking is for you to delay it."

"No, Ney, Mia is my best friend; you don't know how that man destroyed her, and I love you, but your track record with women isn't so great." Her hesitation was annoying. But then again, if she agreed right away, I'd question her friendship with Mia. I mean, her last one slept with her boyfriend and had the nerve to smile in her face.

I want to take this moment to stop and reflect on the year that has gone by, to remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken, the times we opened ourselves up to great adventures or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt, because that’s what new year’s all about, getting another chance, a chance to forgive. To do better, to do more, to give more, to love more, and to stop worrying about what if and start embracing what will be.
