a note about tpg's hiatus

hi everyone!! i've missed y'all <33 i want to share a quick note on tpg's hiatus, and how long it will last.

first and foremost, the tl;dr: i will not abandon tpg. the story remains incredibly important to me, and this hiatus is only that: a hiatus. i will return eventually, and while i am not exactly sure when "eventually" is, i hope to begin updating again soon.

now the long explanation. tpg's hiatus has lasted much, much longer than i expected. it wasn't until i took a break that i realized how mentally and emotionally drained i was after writing 600k+ in 2 years, along with being an engineering master's student then starting a job in aerospace. especially after writing sukuna's backstory (75k+ words in one month), my brain was utterly fried. all in all, it's been a lot.

as some of you may know, i started watching one piece in september. and i love it! it's an incredibly fun, well-written feel-good series. it's been a refreshing mental break to engage with a new series, especially since jjk canon has been so disappointing in both content and writing quality. 

if you check my ao3, you'll notice i took a break from jjk with other series in the past: namely dr. stone, sxf, and natsume yuujinchou. this is necessary for me to remain creative and explore narrative themes that i bring back to tpg when i return to it. but by the time my recent hiatus started, it had been well over a year since i engaged with any other series than jjk, and it was starting to take its toll on me. i'm almost caught up on one piece now, which means i'll be able to focus on tpg again soon.

when i return from tpg's hiatus, updates may be slower. releasing 15k+ word chapters every 2-4 weeks was incredibly mentally taxing and required much of my time and focus to constantly be on the story. it wasn't healthy, and other areas of my life were impacted negatively. it can be easy to forget that i'm a real person with real-life responsibilities writing this story in my spare time for free -- even i sometimes forgot this. 

another note on why taking a break has been so necessary is my mental health. when season 2 released and toji + satosugu was animated, the fandom exploded and tpg's readership drastically increased. while this meant an influx of amazing love and support, i also started to receive rude and hateful comments and messages.

don't get me wrong: not everyone has to like tpg. that's totally fine! but as a very sensitive person, receiving hate took a huge toll on my mental health and motivation, and i have needed time to recover from it. i've been doing better mentally lately, and have taken some measures to reduce unkind interactions. i'm working on becoming less sensitive in the meantime so i can handle it better if/when it happens again.

since i've been feeling guilty about not posting jjk content, i haven't been on tumblr quite as much, but i'm still around online on both discord and instagram. mutuals can request my priv @chiidoriii on IG, and my discord is @MissingN000 -- just shoot me a message with who you are when you request! i'll still post fic updates on both new stories as well as tpg content and previews on tumblr, so please stick around :)

Omg, I just wanted to say I ADORE your characterization of Al and Vox! I don't even have the words to express how much I love reading your stuff, especially the Anon responses you post on here. The behind the scenes thoughts are literally my food, lifesource, its so good when people not only write characters IN CHARACTER, but also include stuff about their analysis/understanding of the character too.. I'm literally obsessed with breaking down characters and yk, cracking their chrome domes open to see how they work (which admittedly, I am not the best at <_< but I love reading them). Just wanted to say how much I love your writing. I had maybe 2 questions, please don't feel pressured to answer them :>

What in your mind (in reference to the 66.6 fics) would motivate Alastor to let Val get close to him in the first place? Or was that more you picking these two characters up by the scruff of their necks and plopping them into a hypothetical scenario to explore their character and write some fun intimate thingsTM?

What do you think of the dynamic of Vox and Al vs something like Lucifer and Al? Personally I've noticed that something Alastor craves, behind the mask of his static smiling persona, is attention. He's (at least how I saw it) usually peeved when people don't care about his absence, and seems especially bothered by the King of Hell refusing to really acknowledge him, so he goes out of his way to push Lucifers buttons (like calling himself a father figure to Charlie, IN FRONT OF HER ACTUAL FATHER LOL) whereas with Vox, Vox is literally CONSTANTLY thinking about Alastor. Man literally interrupted his regular TV program to do a segment about how much he totally didn't at ALL care about Alastors dissapearance or the fact that he returned (suree buddy). So Alastor can have more fun with him and annoy him by ignoring and messing with him on purpose.

I'm especially happy that you're enjoying my commentary on Tumblr, haha - I spent a while on Twitter because that's where all the fandom zines I was in were being hosted, but nothing beats Tumblr for giving me a nigh-unlimited word count and a captive audience for my rambling! >:D <3 I'm back to cocooning myself on the OG hell site.

As for your questions:

1. I'm assuming that was a typo and that you mean Vox (but in case you did mean Val: that was just a funny accident of him walking by the room! Alastor wasn't paying enough attention until it was too late), and to that I say:

I think Alastor allows Vox to take a go at him in canon because he finds Vox's obsession with him to be entertaining, but also because Alastor is kind of a narcissist and that same obsession massively feeds his ego, especially in a political climate that otherwise forgot about Alastor. Vox's whole "Who gives a shit about Alastor coming back?! Haha, now let me have a public meltdown and short out power to the whole city about it! Oh, fuck, why is he back, though?? Can we send a spy in to find out??" is exactly the reaction that Alastor wants every time he mentions his mysterious absence and gets brushed off.

At the same time, Alastor doesn't seem to register Vox as a sincere and genuine threat. He's a big enough fish in the Pride Ring pond that his obsession with Alastor is gratifying, but Alastor's self-absorption also doesn't really allow him to treat Vox as a threat tier above "annoying in a funny way, and also television is stupid." (Perhaps this will change in season 2... :eyes: (or perhaps Alastor will get Even Worse) (please god let him get even worse))

So those two things in combination make Vox the perfect candidate for Alastor to experiment with while maintaining his ego and not feeling particularly threatened. Despite Vox's Safeword 101 talk, Alastor would never put stock into that system with Vox unless he was certain that he himself would be able to back up a 'no' with overwhelming force. Him even considering safewords in the Live On Air! series is less for his own sake and more a politesse he offers on Vox's request to warn Vox to slow the fuck down before Alastor tries to put his insides on the outside.

2. And in direct contrast, we have Lucifer...

... Who Alastor obviously actually cares quite a bit about, because he's a whole nother power tier from both Vox and Alastor, and furthermore and possibly even more importantly, a credible threat to Alastor's relationships and standing in the hotel. I think a lot of discussion I see about Alastor prodding Lucifer seems to talk about how quickly he got annoyed about Lucifer's comments, but that misses the fact that he was pissed off before Lucifer even showed up. He got pissy the moment he saw the welcome sign, actually! And I wager that he was narratively absent for the scene where Charlie actually calls Lucifer because he would have done his best to manipulate her out of doing so had be been there.

And given that the two clearly haven't met before (though obviously Alastor knows of Lucifer - and hates that the inverse isn't true, hah), it's not 100% clear exactly why he's immediately so annoyed, but in my personal view of things and barring something like "he's projecting onto Lucifer because his contract is with Lilith," I think that what we know of Alastor's personality points most strongly to "he liked being the hotel's benefactor and sees it as His Project, and doesn't like the idea that Charlie called daddy for something that she thought mysterious, powerful Alastor couldn't handle." He distracts a lot with obviously-goading comments about practically being Charlie's dad in his duet with Lucifer, but underneath that he puts a lot of emphasis on the work he's done for the hotel and the fact that he's been supporting Charlie and the hotel from the start, so why the fuck is this deadbeat asshole suddenly turning up?!

Tl;dr: Charlie missed her insight roll on Alastor's personal investments and he's sooooo offended - and taking it out on Lucifer!

I think one of my favorite things about both Lucifer and Alastor is that they both sooo obviously belong in the Pride Ring, hahaha.

What are your thoughts on preboot Garth vs reboot Garth? You seem to be one of the only people who like reboot Garth. What is appealiong about him?

Well, "like" might be a strong word.

It's really no surprise that I'm saying this, but Reboot Garth has NOTHING on Preboot Garth. Let's not kid ourselves and pretend that Preboot Garth isn't superior in literally every conceivable way.

Preboot Garth is such an incredible character. He is kind, gentle, smart, and powerful. He is emotionally impactful and occupies a space that is so specifically Him that no other character could fill it. He is so compelling, so relatable, and frankly he's downright adorable too! When I have been at some of my lowest points in life, he's been a character that I've grown up alongside and used as an example of emotional strength to help me stand back up and carry on despite the anxiety and sadness and pressure. Truly, he is one of my comfort characters of all time. His story and the things he can do are also extremely interesting!

Physically strong ✔️

Control over water ✔️

Magic ✔️

Eye blasts ✔️

Diplomacy ✔️

Like 50 other things that he forgot to mention that he can do, but totally can ✔️

So you may be wondering then, why I still like Reboot Garth who is… hardly at all like what I just described. And my answer to that is: I don't know.

You would certainly be right to say that for the most part*, Rebirth Garth is nothing like his pre-n52 counterpart. (*World's Finest: Teen Titans was the closest we've gotten. It was kind of nice in regards to Garth, with the exception of a few gripes I have here and there.) And you'd be right to be upset about it. I know I am. Quite often, to be honest.

But for some reason I just can't bring myself to fully condemn Rebirth Garth. At the end of the day, I'm in fandom to have fun, you know? And if I spend all my time hating something that's out of my control… well what good does that do me? At this point, I feel like I've resigned myself to the knowledge that I simply will not be getting what I want in regards to Garth, and so I've turned to becoming a bemused spectator at the things happening in current comics. I can still become excited about it when I DO manage to find a bit that I like. There was a post a while back that went something like,

"N52 and Rebirth suck except the parts that I like. And those bits I'll toss into a blender, puree, and mix in with preboot canon."

Yeah, that. Basically, when it comes to Reboot Garth, (in my own head) I ignore the reboot and then blend up the little bits I enjoy to create the utopian world of Canon+. And from my little imaginary perch, I can choose to still enjoy this character who has taken my blorbo's name, but sadly isn't really him.

With how changeable comics are as a medium though, I do also believe that there will be a writer someday who is willing to do the legwork necessary to bring Garth back around to being the blorbo I once knew. Some currently canon things will definitely have to be tossed out, but hey, that's the nature of comics!

That said tho, I think another one of the things that prevents me from disliking him is (surprisingly) the design. It's a controversial take amongst Garth fans for sure, but I honestly like it for the most part. There are a few things I'd tweak to make him look like more of an extension of Preboot Garth (CURLY HAIR, PLEASE), but there are a lot of elements that I just so happen to find aesthetically appealing and thus don't really mind. That isn't to say that Garth didn't already look fucking incredible, because he ABSOLUTELY did. I'm just not that bothered, I guess haha!

If TK was ever told when he was younger that he would be with a man who not only likes to see him in panties but would actively buy him panties at a store and proudly say they were for his boyfriend TK would have thought the person telling him was crazy. Carlos, though, prompts TK to forget that shame when he finds a pair of panties that TK long forgot about. The shame he felt, is replaced by the burning passion that Carlos fucks him with when TK models the panties for him for the very first time. Not only passion but love and tenderness that TK isn’t used to. It makes him want to rediscover that part of himself again. It makes him feel safe to explore a side of himself he had long buried under homophobic slurs and dirty looks.

However, it’s hard, to allow himself to want the softer things again after going so long denying himself. He knows it’s not something that will change overnight — even with Carlos being the most supportive boyfriend, but TK wants it to.

So he decides not to force it. After Carlos gives him the new panties, he shoves the five pairs in the back of his drawer, not to hide them away necessarily but so that they won’t be there, glaring him in the face and taunting him every time he opens his drawer. He likes knowing that they’re there, but not seeing them every time he needs to get a new pair of boxers. 

On days when Carlos is at work, TK takes them out. 

At first, he just runs them through his fingers, feeling the soft material and watching how they glide delicately through his hands. The colors Carlos had picked for him were good ones — shades of pastel that TK knows will look great against his skin. 

Eventually, TK gets up the courage to put a pair on. He chooses the high-waisted pair and pulls them on, holding his breath as he chances a look into the floor-length mirror that they have. He’s surprised by how good they look on him. 

They’re a soft orange that looks delicate and pretty against the pale skin of his thighs. They’re snug around his cock and make his ass look even perkier than it usually does in his boxers. The waistband of the panties comes up just below his navel, covering the soft trail of hair that leads down to his cock. TK reaches down, brushing his fingers delicately over his bulge and a shiver runs through him.

He’s missed this more than he’s ever let himself think about.

Okay listen, do I technically have a fic that mentions living happily ever after in the last line? Yes. Am I choosing that fic? No. I'm choosing Happy Holidays, You Filthy Potters, because 1. smut, 2. sassy young Harry, and best of all, 3. sassy good godfather sirius black 😉

I've gotten a couple of comments about Lily in Dead To Me but I've decided it's not my problem if people don't have critical analysis skills 💀

I do! I write smut for a number of different ships and plan on doing others! Uhhh, what kind? the fact that I don't really know what that means probably means it's pretty vanilla 😆 there's a lot of going down on people 🤐

Haha, no, but if I did I'd probably do PJO/HP

I have!! @charmsandtealeaves and I co-wrote a fic for a jilychallenge last year, before we were even friends! It was my first time co-writing a fic, which was very cool and different, but also didn't feel that foreign to me -- I think because I've spent a lot more years doing para RP than I have writing fics. It was fun to kind of riff off another writer in a different way. I would definitely do it again!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Okay, this is kind of tough because I only recently got into Prongsfoot, and they are the definition of soulmates... But because I ultimately see Sirius as more of an ace/aro character, Jily wins the place of favorite ship in my heart. <3

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Well, I really only have two WIPs posted on AO3: Dead To Me and Just This Once, and I have all of DTM outlined and plan to finish it by fall. Just This Once might be a while, but I also have a plan for it and would like to finish it at some point... But I guess there's a chance I won't finish it -- I do have a lot of other multi-chaps I am going to be starting soon.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hm. I like to think I'm good at getting into the minds of my characters, really thinking through their motivations and emotions and then expressing those to the reader. I also think I'm fairly good at dialogue. I really like writing banter so I hope others think I'm good at it, haha. And based on what I've been told, my smut isn't half bad 😆

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Oh, definitely writing descriptions of any kind. I never remember to describe the scene and when I do, I think it feels clunky. I'm not great at writing in a more direct way, either; I struggle to express a character's emotions without getting a bit flowery with it. Just generally, I think my writing could be tighter, you know? I'm sure I'll realize other things I need to work on as I write more long fics, too.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Ah, haven't done it yet, so don't have any thoughts to share.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

HP -- Jily on the Neopets forums... never 4get <3

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

If we're talking finished works, I'd have to say Tall Dark and Glasses, which I wrote for the masquerade event for Jilytober last year. To me, that fic has a certain je ne sais quois that is hard to replicate. But unfinished? Dead To Me, hands down, and once it's finished it will be very hard to ever top it. It's imperfect and there are a lot of edits I'd make if I were to go back through and polish it up, but it's the first multi chap fic I've ever written, and beyond just feeling immensely proud of that, the story itself and how I'm writing it is one of the most heartfelt and meaningful things I'll ever write in my life.

i’m pretty certain that’s not shanks’ own wedding. from what i’ve seen in the japanese fandom the general consensus is that it’s not his wedding and he’s a guest. (a popular theory is that it’s uta’s wedding but idk about that…) i’d bet it’s something to do with the giants (which oda didn’t want to reveal yet) just from the way it’s drawn is meant to deliberately hide the size of the church and the other guests. there’s a guy in the background who’s cheering at the church while facing away from shanks at the same time the doves are being released. it’s a crucial moment and shanks is just off to the side reading the newspaper.

i’m so certain shanks doesn’t have another kid, that would fuck up his character. oda loves shanks, and he loves his father-daughter relationships. he’d never make shanks into the kind of guy who’d willingly start a new happy family while uta’s back in Elegia suffering. it also just goes against the whole theme of bonds being stronger than blood? shanks leaves his adopted daughter miserable and suicidal, but takes care to ensure his biological child he hasn’t met is safe and loved? i just can’t imagine that being the ending.

i also see japanese fans saying they’d think shanks was a scummy guy towards uta if he went and had a kid, so i’ve seen people leaning towards beck instead. apparently oda emphasizing that beck loves women is a big indicator. 

another reason some fans say it’s not shanks is because makino calls him ‘taichou-san’ which is a very formal address. how people refer to each other is very important. so there’s a hint in how it’s distant and like a stranger’s behavior.

my personal opinion is that the dad is just a regular villager or a marine. there’s a lot of men who are way closer distance wise so that would be the simplest answer. there’s a good chance oda just doesn’t know or care when only one parent matters. we don’t even know yamato or luffy’s mom.

hi, anon!! sorry for making you wait. it's actually funny that i forgot to reply to this for so long, because in that time, my feelings have slightly... changed? somewhat??? i'll explain.

i was reading the extra "road to laughtale" volumes for fun recently when i stumbled across shanks' section, and there are some interesting implications which actually contradict my previous thoughts, if true.

the language used here -- that shanks is "attending a wedding ceremony," and "performing a benediction" -- sounds less like a man getting married, and more like a man who officiated someone else's wedding. (of course, there's the matter of translation accuracy and how canon this information actually is, but...)

"benediction" in particular is very interesting. not only is shanks attending a wedding, but he is essentially giving his blessing. how literal this is, i can't be sure, but either way, it implies a sense of familiarity/closeness to a party other than himself. perhaps shanks is giving his figurative "blessing" as an emperor to one of his allies, or maybe as a captain to one of his own crewmates. or maybe, in the most literal interpretation, he was responsible for wedding two individuals in some way.

i'd love to get my hands on the raw scans and see alternative translations, but "benediction" is so specific a term, and the repetition of "attending" reads as intentional. again, we still don't know for sure, but i feel a lot less certain about it being shanks' wedding, now!!

im a zutara multishipper though i often feel like a fake cause im not as hardcore as most of em.. i forgot all about that scarf scene its not as memorable as I'll save you from the pirates is that probalmatic imeaniguess but it was a fun scene in the cartoon ..

im begging shippers not to bully gordon over shipping and it is interting to note how uncomfortable zutara makes the actors prob cause they recognize Kia is a teenager and Dallas is 22 year old.. theres hooplah over how the age gap is fine cause she' ll be 18 and theres a difference with 11/14 vs 15/ year old met guy when he was 20. of course kia is uncomforatble with zutara she met dallas aas a child. but here we got people treating her like she's an adult already.

the way kia is talked about creeps me out and i still think about the people telling me im a fake fan bec i think maybe we dont talk about kias age like shes not even real. i do enjoy the fanart comig from promo pics cause people are super talented but sometimes . it feels that people are shipping Kia/Dallas more than zuko/katara

Hi!! Honestly it's fine if you ship even if things for the ship are considered 'problematic'. I mean I ship Zukka and both of them have genuinely wanted each other dead or gone for a good chunk of the show lol.

I think, and I'm not going to generalize and say EVERY Zutara shipper, but one thing I've encountered as a pattern of difference between Zutara shippers and every other ATLA ship shipper, is canonicity. Zukaang, Zukka, Jetko, MaiLee, TyZula, Tokka, Taang, none of them are of the mindset that their ship will be canon so no one has any real problems with these ships. But a lot of Zutara shippers I've seen on twitter at least are convinced that Zutara was meant to be canon, and this inability keep fanon and canon separate is what's getting people's hopes up. And when it's made clear that these ARE separate, there's upset. I've seen the same thing happen with multiple other shippers and ships across fandoms.

You're so right on the way people act about and treat Kia. Dallas has on interview said Kia is like a little sister to him, and yeah people keep forgetting that these two met when Kia was a child and he was an adult. It's why Dallas and Ian are fine when they talk about Zukka or can joke about "shipping" them.

I've noticed that people are doing the thing again(in 2024 dear GOD), where they keep waiting for young girls to be "legal" to be fucking creeps. People did it with Billie Eilish, the Olsen twins and a bunch of other female celebs and artists. I just feel terrible for her and Gordon, and I wish people would stop being weird about the actors and take a hint because Kia, Dallas, Gordon- none of them are being subtle about being uncomfortable about zutara. The only way they can be more obvious is plaster it on their foreheads. I didn't know about people talking about...ugh I can't even say it, Kia and Dallas like a ship GROSS. Leave Kia and Dallas out of it gosh. I got an ask a while back basically saying people will stop being mean to Gordon if Zutara becomes canon and I was flabbergasted. Like, you won't treat a child, with respect and dignity, because your 20 year old ship isn't real???

I've said this before, but people are just jumping to make Kia out to be more...older? People saying she looks like Gordon's mom(I will hunt these people on sight she looks like a child). And it's this, intermixing of sexism and racism and colourism (I've seen people be extremely disgusting about Dallas and Gordon too about their appearance. Pretty much everyone who doesn't fit into Western beauty standards are receiving awful hate- Thalia Tran playing Mai, Elizabeth Yu playing Azula).

People seriously need to get a grip and start learning to differentiate between fiction and real human beings or this is going to hurt EVERYONE involved, but especially Kia and Gordon. It doesn't matter if Kia is 18, she DOES NOT LIKE IT. DALLAS sees her as a sister, like i wish people would keep that in mind.

I honestly forgot how easy writing was when 90% (figuratively) was transcribing an existing episode.

But seriously it's fun to come back to this even though I'm not super active in the fandom anymore

You adjusted the strap of the duffle bag hanging over your shoulder.

"You'll do great kiddo" Ollie said and you rolled your eyes.

"I know. This isn't my first mission. It isn't even my first mission without you" You told him.

"Give them some space Ollie. They'll do great. I'm sure of it" Dinah said and kissed the top of your head.

"Thanks Dinah." You said, put a pair of dark shades over your eyes and stepped into the zeta-tube.

"Recognized, B-01, Bluejay"

You weren't the first to arrive at the cave. Robin and Aqualad were already there, both in civvies. Like yours Robin's eyes were covered with dark shades.

"It is good to see you again Bluejay" Kaldur said and you nodded.

"Where's everyone else?" You asked.

"Superboy is on his way back with Miss Martian and Kid Flash has yet to arrive" He replied. "That sounds about right" You said and put down your duffle beside what you assumed was Robin's bag.

Unlike Kaldur, who's costume was probably under his jacket or Miss Martian who could change into her uniform with just a thought the two of you had to carry yours around with you.

Within a few minutes Wally ran in from the Cave's main entrance and Superboy and Miss Martian came in as well, followed by Batman. He turned on the cave's main computer and projected your mission behind him.

"Isla Santa Prisca. This Island nation is the primary source of a dangerous and illegal neo steroid. A strength enhancing drug sold under the street name Venom." You explained and the images of the island quickly changed to blueprints and maps of a factory.

"Infrared heat signatures indicate their factory is still operating in full capacity but all shipments of Venom have been inexplicably cut off. That's where this team comes in. This is a covert recon mission only." Batman emphasized. "Observe and report. If the Justice League needs to intervene it will."

And then The boy wonder Robin asked the most important question.

"So who's in charge?"

"Work that out between you" Batman instructed and sent you all on your way.

Caribbean Sea July 22nd, 20:08 ECT

"Drop zone A in 30" Miss M announced and you and Kaldur both stood up, your seats on the bioship melting into the rest of the craft.

The plan Batman explained had two dropzones. Dropzone A where you and Aqualad would be dropped into the ocean about half a mile away from the shore where the two of you would then swim to the island and patch over the heat and motion sensors, allowing Robin, Kid Flash, Superboy and Miss Martian to fly to drop-zone B undetected.

You placed a rebreather over your mouth just as Miss M opened a hatch under your feet and you and Aqualad both dove into the sea. Kaldur could swim incredibly fast by nature of being an Atlantean but you used your flight to maneuver quickly in the water. It wasn't as fast as flying but it was faster than most swimmers.

Within minutes Aqualad  made it to shore and patched the sensors. The rest of the Team moved on to drop-zone B while you made it to shore and put away your rebreather.

"I always think I can keep up with you and I'm always wrong" You say  to lighten the mood and Kaldur chuckles.

"Now is the time where I must keep up with you" He said as the two of you made your way into the island's jungle.

It took them a few minutes to make it but Miss M's voice came over your radio.

"Aqualad, Bluejay, drop B is go" She said.

You couldn't respond seeing as you were busy flying Kaldur over a cliff in the jungle but he told her that the two of you would track their GPS while they headed for the factory.

You and Kaldur stayed silent as you made your way to the rest of the team. An aspect of covert missions They didn't seem to understand as you heard them bicker over the radio.

"Superboy, KF, we're almost at your location. Switch to infrared and check if we're being tracked" You said and Wally and Superboy each found a squad that was heading your way.

Not a minute went by and you heard gunshots from their direction.

"Is everything okay?" You asked.

"Yeah, the two squads found each other," Wally said.

"Swing wide, steer clear" Kaldur ordered.

"Yeah, yeah, just as soon as I find Rob" Wally said and promptly tripped, falling between the two squads.

"Are you kidding me?" You muttered and picked up Kaldur, deciding that flying would get you to your teammates faster than running.

As was expected once the team was found a fight broke out. Superboy went straight for Bane who was leading one of the squads. Robin jumped down from the trees and took out goons while Kid Flash dodged bullets and regained his footing.

You were almost there, you could hear more bickering over the radio and arrived just in time to knock out the last goon.

The six of you tied up both squads of now knocked out goons (and Bane) and regrouped.

"I recognize those uniforms, they belong to the Cult of the Kobra" Robin said.

"I am certain Batman would have mentioned it if he knew a dangerous extremist was running Santa prisca's Venom operation" Kaldur added.

"Agreed" You and Robin said.

It became clear that the Kobra Cult had overtaken the island from Bane and his goons.

"We get it, Kobra wanted super cultists, mystery solved. Radio Bats and we'll be home in time for—"

You cut Wally off. "Except the cultists aren't on Venom. They don't have any of the signs. Kobra must be hoarding it. I don't think our mission is done yet."

"Agreed" Robin said.

”We’re not leaving until I know why Kobra’s hoarding this stuff” Robin said. 

“Until you know why?” Wally questioned. 

“Yeah, this team needs a leader,” Robin retorted. 

“And it’s you? Dude you’re a 13 year old kid who ducked out on us without a word” Wally said. His tone was harsh but not mean. Robin laughed. 

“And you’re a mature 15? You blew our cover first chance you got” Robin threw back and you massaged your temples. You loved the two of them. They were your best friends but they could get on your nerves. 

You looked at Kaldur as they argued. He was the oldest member of the Team at 18 with you following behind at a slightly younger 15. (Still a month and a half older than Wally as you liked to remind him)

M’gann and Superboy didn’t really count. Their experience of their age wasn’t usual. 

“Are you gonna step in?” You asked Kaldur and he shook his head. 

“Are you?” He asked. 

“Maybe to slap them.” You muttered and Bane seemed to find your team’s disorganization funny as he laughed at your squabbling. 

“Such clever ninos, but you only know half the story. Let me show you the rest, I can get you into the factory via my secret entrance” He said and you stared him down. 

Why would he help you?

“There is a secret entrance but he’s also hiding something” Miss M confirmed. 

“It’s not that complicated. The enemy of my enemy is my friend” Bane said. 

You all looked between each other and agreed. For now you’d let Bane show you to the factory but as you walked Superboy pulled you aside. 

“I don’t trust him. He was talking earlier, I didn’t get all of it but it isn’t good” He said and you nodded. 

“Sounds about right. We’re on the same side but only until he has the chance to get his island back” You told him. 

Bane led you to a cliff overlooking the factory where you had a good vantage point to see Kobra preparing the Venom for a buyer. 

“We need to identify that buyer” Kaldur said. 

You kept your eyes on Bane. If he was going to pull something, he would do it now. 

He moved a large boulder revealing an entrance to the factory from the cliff through some old mines. 

“So now el luchador is our leader” Wally grumbled and you pulled him into the mines by the ear. 

“Come on” 

“Ow, ow, I’m coming, stop pinching” Wally whined as he followed into the mines. 

Bane opened the gate to the factory and after making sure the coast was clear you snuck in. Within seconds Robin was gone and KF ran off trying to find out who the buyer was before him, as if this mission was some kind of competition. 

“While Wonder Bird and Mr. Speedy Gonzales have their little contest let’s see what we can find from here” You said and flew up to a higher perch to see the shipment being prepared. 

“It’s a massive shipment” Aqualad said. 

“Yeah but look, they’re only taking new product off the line. They’re not touching the old stuff” Superboy added. 

“Maybe freshness counts?” Miss M asked. 

“Or maybe they’re different. Maybe Kobra changed the recipe” You said. 

“There’s a helicopter coming” Superboy warned. 

“Miss Martian, can you use your camouflage to get closer and see who the buyer is?” Aqualad asked and Miss M nodded, stealthily flying off. 

Meanwhile you helped fly Aqualad and Superboy up to a rafter to better stay hidden. You decided to let Bane find his own way up. 

“Sportsmaster is the buyer.” Aqualad said after receiving a mental image from M’gann. He immediately tried to reach Red Tornado back at the cave over radio while you tried to reach Robin and Kid Flash to tell them to regroup.

“Ugh, I can’t reach the league. It’s all static” He groaned. 

“Robin and KF are blocked too. They probably jammed all radio communication” You said. 

“We need a plan, now.” Aquald said.

“I have a suggestion” Bane said and screamed as he jumped down from the rafter. 

Both you and Kaldur looked at each other, confused as to his plan until a monster jumped through the window above, taking down the rafter you were all on in an attempt to get to bane. 

You caught Aqualad, floating him down safely while Superboy safely landed. 

The mammoth of a creature roared and while looking at it you realized this thing had probably been given this new Venom.

You braced for a fight as Superboy tackled Mammoth and you and Aqualad took on the goons, more and more of which were coming. 

The ruckus also caught Robin and Kid Flash’s attention, finally bringing them back to the rest of the team as you tried to hold off the Kobra cult. 

“I thought you learned not to run off” You told Wally as you kicked a goon who was aiming at him. 

“It was fine” He said, brushing it off and quickly taking cover behind a support column. A cover where you quickly joined him in an attempt to avoid the bullets being fired at you by the Kobra cult. 

That’s when your most hated sensation returned and you felt someone in your mind. You hadn’t heard Kaldur tell M’gann to psychically link you all. 

Your hands flew up to brace your head as you groaned and Wally put a comforting hand on your shoulder. “Hey it’s alright” He told you out loud and after taking a breath the panic subsided. 

“We need to regroup” Kaldur said through the link. 

“A bit busy now” Robin replied.

“Robin. Now.” Kaldur said and with a groan the boy wonder ran in. 

The six of you ran back into the mines. At some point Bane had gotten away but that wasn’t important now. 

The metal door didn’t hold for long and you all ran or flew as fast as you could while dodging the bullets being fired at you. 

“Superboy the support beams!” Kaldur said and Superboy nodded, punching the nearest beam and collapsing the mine, leaving you cut off from the factory. 

With the threat of the cultists gone you all stopped to regroup. 

You pulled a small but effective lantern out of your belt that lit the mine blue. 

“Ugh, how could my first mission as leader go so wrong?” Robin questioned.

“You do have the most experience but perhaps that is exactly what has left you unprepared. Fighting alongside Batman your roles are defined. You two do not need to talk, but this team is new and a leader must be clear. He cannot vanish and expect others to play parts in an unknown plan” Kaldur said, trying to comfort Robin. 

“Oh so I’m supposed to hold everyone’s hand?!” Robin asked. 

“Not hold hands but explain. Communicate. This team isn’t a well oiled machine yet. It’s still building” You stopped. You had planned to simply comfort Robin but—

“Maybe we need someone who’s already used to very clear communication.” You said and looked at Kaldur. 

Robin followed your line of sight and smiled. 

“I agree, I think Kaldur should lead us” He said. 

“Please! I can run circles around him!” Wally explained and you turned your eyes to him, raising a questioning brow. 

“Come on, you know he’s the one. We all do” Robin said. 

M’gann agreed. “Hello Meghan! It’s so obvious” 

“Could’ve told ya” Superboy agreed and with that even Wally was convinced. 

Kaldur looked between all of you, he walked up to Robin, “If it is unanimous then I accept the burden, until you are ready to lift it from my shoulders” He said, looking down at Robin. 

“You were born to lead this team, maybe not now but soon” He told the boy wonder. You had some sarcastic replies to that but they would have to come later. Robin needed this comfort. 

“Alright, our first priority is preventing that shipment from leaving this island.” Aqualad announced. 

Though Bane tried to stop you, you ultimately made it back to the factory the long way and just in time to stop the shipment. 

KF went in first and then Superboy and Aquqalad worked together to take on Mammoth while Robin took on Kobra himself. 

Miss M was about to join them when you stopped her.

“Can you place these bombs while camouflaged?” You asked her, holding out a handful of bombs you kept in your utility belt. She nodded. 

“Then you go, I’ll hold off sportsmaster” You said and she did as you said. 

“Hey Sportsmaster! You’re awfully far from Coast city” You said as you tackled him. 

“Well if it isn’t Canary’s little bird” He said as he dodged your attack. You were familiar with Sportsmaster in more ways than he knew and knew his fighting style well. More than well enough to keep him busy and when Miss martian was done to take a hit enough for him to think he could escape. 

“Thanks for the workout Birdy but i gotta fly” He said and took off in the helicopter. 

You looked at Miss Martian as she uncamouflaged and she smiled. 

When Sportsmaster was far enough away you detonated the bombs and watched as his helicopter blew up above the island. 

With the Shipment dealt with, the only one left was Kobra. Robin had done well but not nearly well enough. But as he saw his goons gone, his factory ablaze and the shipment of his Venom destroyed he ran, somehow managing to disappear into the shadows of the jungle. 

WIth the bad guys beaten and the comfortable breeze of the jungle to calm your nerves you dusted off the dirt and grime that had covered your suit during your fight with Sportmaster. 

Robin turned from the forests where Kobra disappeared to look at the team. He smiled and Aqualad. 

“We picked the right guy to lead… Automatically making you the right guy to explain this mess to Batman” He said, laughing and you joined him.

“Good luck Kaldur” You told him. 

Mount Justice July 23rd, 10:01 EDT

Turns out just because Kaldur had to break the news to Batman doesn’t mean he’ll be the only one reprimanded. Batman bit into all of you pretty hard but what surprised you was the praise that followed. 

“No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy. How you adjust to the unforeseen is what determines success and how you choose who leads determines character” He said before dismissing all of you. 

“Looks like Batman agrees with our choice of leader” You joked once he left. 

“It seems so,” Kaldur agreed, though somewhat sheepishly. 

“So what now? We each just go home?” Wally asked. 

“Well it’s a fresh morning, how about we all change back to civvies and we can go to a diner. There’s a really great place I know in Star City” You said and with a lot of nodding it was agreed.

Just watched the Hetalia musical!

It was fun, though I had no idea what was going on sometimes lol. It didn’t take itself completely seriously, and was good goofy fun.

If I had any complaints it would be the aforementioned at times confusing story. Or maybe that’s just because I couldn’t hear what everyone was singing half the time. The main story was about Japan being chosen to host an international festival, and trying to find what’s so unique about himself. And this somehow results in him falling back in time. There was this whole “Open the country, stop having it be closed” mini-arc that I didn’t know how it connected to the whole thing about Japan finding his uniqueness. They could have made it relevant; like maybe Japan has realized how unique he is and goes too far in the other direction, deciding that to preserve his culture he’s going to remain closed, and he has to learn that he needs his friends too, but from what I could gather that wasn’t what they were going for. Or maybe it was? Idk really.

Also man they flanderized Ame badly. He was a brute in this! Like he didn’t even care when Japan disappeared, WTF America??? That’s one of your best friends like??? Also Past!America was trying to prevent the Axis Stooges from returning to the present because… Reasons? Seriously Ame why are you such a jerk here?! Also I swear China was way more hyper in the opening scene than I’d ever expect him to be (Like there was a gag at the beginning where he and Italy were like “Uneasiness? Like the uneasiness of wanting to go to the bathroom oh no we forgot!” and run around goofily). Though that didn’t last long, and he appeared to act slightly like his old salty self, at least in the past, at least what I know of his old personality, after the fact. And Ned was way more cheerful, though that’s not a complaint. Also I kind of wish the JP fandom didn’t push the whole Axis thing still. …And they mistook tomatoes as being North American lmao. Those come from South America, writers!

As mentioned, the story was about Japan finding himself basically. It really was a story made for Japanese audiences and to pull at Japanese heartstrings lol. Also, the actors were really cute. Especially Japan and China. Man Japan was so smol. Though Ame and China’s voices were really jarring to me because wow they were low. Like I’m expecting them to be these tenors and then bam, I hear these goddamn baritone voices come out of their mouths. It’s not bad, just jarring and hard to get used to. Italy and Spain and England’s actors were clearly trying their best to match the anime though. And I remember saying Ame’s singing was… Eh in another Hetamyu clip I saw, but everyone was great here!

Also man the Netherlands fans were eating good tonight! On the other hand, as soon as the characters started talking about how “The world is uneasy recently” in the opening scene I immediately noticed the giant Russia-shaped hole in the cast. His lack of presence was pretty noticeable. Is it because of current events…?

I found it kind of funny that Past!China was like “You don’t have to copy me to the letter you know?” (and at one point quips something like “What is there to copy about me?”) because of how I write Imperial China and how Imperial China was in history, and I’m pretty sure it was the opposite in canon too lol. And Japan and the rest of the Axis trio are there because supposedly volcanic eruptions release enough energy to create wormholes. Because screw you it’s that type of show. Obligatory SB Ruin first-impressions opinion piece

On its face, I do not like Ruin. It is not satisfying at all and simply opens up more questions in a very, VERY annoying way. And the few character moments I do adore about it are underutilized and short-lived. And that pisses me the HELL off.

Roxy and Cassie’s past and connection feel like an afterthought. It feels like it’s there to bait us, honestly. Like nothing came out of that other than an out-of-nowhere gutwrench scene that feels so cheap in hindsight. And Eclipse, god Eclipse (or as I call them when I don’t want to get canon vs fanon confused- Ruinclipse). Eclipse is great. I adore them, just like everyone else does. But there is not enough of them, not even close. In fact, I would rather have not gotten them at all because how DARE Steelwool make a character they KNEW would be fucking BELOVED and only give them like 3 lines of dialogue? And they’re great. Their voice in particular is fucking incredible. Kellen Goff KNOWS what he’s doing with character voices. But there was like none of them. And that angers me for OBVIOUS FUCKING REASONS.

My biggest gripe with Ruin is that it has things that are really fucking good, but there isn’t ENOUGH.

And don’t even get me started on how the whole mimic thing came out of nowhere and just brings up more questions and complicates things EVEN MORE. And now I am desperately digging for an un-before-discovered ending in feeble hope for SOMETHING, ANYTHING, that even vaguely SEEMS like closure or an actual fucking ENDING.

We have no background for anything, btw. We don’t know how Cassie knows Gregory, we don’t know where she came from, we know NOTHING about her.

This dlc sacrificed half-decent storytelling in favor of scares and gameplay and that is the exact opposite of what it should have tried to do. I consider Ruin a massive fucking step down from Security Breach as someone who loves Security Breach despite its flaws.

Ruin was not exactly boring like most critics I’ve seen claim, but rather the moments of excitement and good HAVE NO PAYOFF.

As it stands right now, I would honestly rather Ruin not have happened.

I will still post about it, and join in fandom hype, but not because of what it is. But rather what I know it could be. I say all of these things out of love. Because I love FNAF and I love SB and I love the direction it took, but god I hate how they have done nothing to enrich it with Ruin. This dlc honestly feels like a big waste of time. They focused on pleasing the gameplay-obsessed haters who wouldn’t have appreciated the dlc no matter what happened and completely forgot what was actually good about the initial game. And that deeply saddens me. I hope things get better. I hope whatever we uncover later gives closure, I hope there are things in the future, but as of right now this was a massive disappointment.

And honestly the bar of my expectations was barely an inch from the ground relative to the base game.

Edit: wow I sound angrier here than I thought I did when it was initially made. I promise I mean all of this in a “it’s so close to being great and I’m frustrated at how far it fell” way and this is not just me screaming “it didn’t meet a quota for the amount of things I like in it”. The lore problems are the biggest issue here (even though FNAF lore was already fucked but it’s never fun to see it get further mangled) it just specifically is extra aggravating how little of the exciting character moments we got if that makes sense.

I think we could do this for almost every listed fandom ^^ In Dark Souls it is probably Gwyndolin and I have to admit, I am not completely free of guilt of this, but I still fully lean into them having daddy issues and wanting the cycle to continue, I just portray them a bit more sympatethic in the matter, as feeling as if this is the only choice, what they were raised for etc etc. But I also see people write Gwyndolin as this innocent baby angel and not as the last child of Gwyn who is kinda behind the plot of the first Dark Souls. There is some pride in Gwyndolin and we should portray them accurately. Or not. Do what you guys want ^^ I just wanted to point stuff out. Hmmm, in Bloodborne... probably Micolash. I see a lot of people kinda... not leaning into Micolash being batshit insane. If you now point at me and say "Little, your Micolash is a quirky shameless innocent boy", that is Byrgenwerth era Micolash who is like 15 years old and hasn't even thought about the atrocities he will commit! I swear, if I would write canon Micolash, he would be a LOT different. I actually should write him. I never tried and he is so interesting! For Hollow Knight it is Grimm imo. He gets flanderized a lot. He is either the gay uncle or ship material but rarely, very rarely is he the Higher Being he is in canon. I admit I write Grimm as a major troll in my own fic, Off Balance, but he still is a god in this, following his own plan from the start. He never agreed to help PK from the good of his heart and while his plan is ultimately for the sake of another one, I still think I did him justice. I hope ^^ Elden Ring. I don't even have to think about it. Mohg and Morgott! Mohg oftentimes feels like his canon gets completely ignored and shoved under the rug (and if you do this, fine, I get the character makes people uncomfy). But I think Morgott is even worse. Yes, I like Morgott as well and I lean fully into his whole self hating and learning to love himself fanon, but... guys, sometimes I feel you forgot that he canonically killed dozens and dozens of Tarnished, had an order under his command that hunted Tarnished and pretty much is NOT a friend to your Tarnished in canon at ALL. Please, lean more into Morgott that is so into the grip of the Golden Order if you try to write him in canon. Okay and now I probably upset a lot of people. These are just my own opinions. You can blorbofy your blorbos as much as you want. I won't and can't stop you. I might just not read your fic or your comic, that is all. Alright, nobody is offended here, right? I am sure guilty of my own blorbofications ^^

25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing Hmmmm... good question. I rarely look at complaints and when it comes to Dark Souls, it isn't a fandom complaint I am sick of hearing, but the "easy mode" crowd. I am not even AGAINST easy modes, but Dark Souls difficulty is so much ingrained into the lore that taking it away would be a really big detriment to the game. For Bloodborne it is easy. Gehrman haters. Please, leave the old man in peace. He chose a fucked up way to grieve someone that he either loved romantically or as a daughter. Canon never does say that he did anything to the doll! If all, the lore implies that he mostly ignores her. Hollow Knight. That PK and Radi are colonizers. Where does that idea even come from?! If you follow the lore, Radi was there first and then PK came and then they had a battle about followers. It wasn't even a bloody battle, nowhere in the lore does it say that countless bugs died or such, it was more so that PK managed to gain more followers and that led to the whole disaster. What they are both guilty of is supressing the void culture, I suppose, but there was also no mention of killing. The whole killing only happened once the infection came into place. Elden Ring. That is also a no-brainer. The whole people who are denying that Mohg is romantically involved with Miquella. If you see it as consentual or non-consentual, Mohg is completely infatuated with Miquella. Nobody who would want to have power would cradle a hand like that and speak that softly. Okay, I think I talked enough ^^ Again, these opinions are my own. If you don't agree with them, that is fine. I am not mad at you. You have a right to have your own opinions and headcanons, even though I don't agree with them.

What's your thoughts/predictions for the ruin dlc since the trailer dropped?

I was pretty excited when I saw the trailer drop, literally fell out on the floor XD

I thought it it looked really intense seeing the glamrocks and the Pizzaplex in disrepair,, it also kinda made me sad (Which I'll get to in a second)!

First off, Cassie sounds like she's going to be a force to be reckoned with like Gregory (maybe they're related), and the Monty death screen shows how relentless she can really be despite being a child?!

She looks really cute and I hope we actually get full body cutscenes or something where we can see the fully rendered models...

Now with Gregory calling for help, I already knew/had a feeling that it wasn't him (not confirmed obviously) but there was something in his inflection that made me not want to trust it. We know Gregory is a fighter, and him suddenly being trapped in the mall doesn't sound like him, he had a lot of exit points by the time 6am rolled around.

If it's following the ending where Freddy "dies" in Fazerblast, then he would've left soon after unless he had some motive in staying behind (but I highly doubt that). So either Gregory is alive and is ACTUALLY trapped, or he's MIA (or worst case scenario dead) with the "Mimic" trying to lure Cassie into the mall.

I think the one thing that built on some dread/melancholy for me was seeing what looks like Freddy's body under some rubble:

He's become my comfort character, so seeing whats become of him and not knowing the context of this scene makes me fear for what's going to happen. Like is he okay?? He was moving, but his knees are backwards and the rest of his body is hidden (probably for good reason). Please let him be okay.

My thoughts on whether Freddy might be an ally are mixed, since we don't know if he's under the virus' influence or not. If he isn't then he might be able to help a little even in his damaged state, but if he is then we'll get to see him be another antagonist (I don't mind either outcome).

Plus it seems like Roxy might be docile, poor girl's face is entirely gone. She and Monty are both in the worst shapes, at least Chica and Freddy are a bit repairable though.. I almost forgot about the daycare attendant but their design looks sick as hell, I really hope their name actually becomes "Eclipse" in canon.

I love the glamrocks and the Pizzaplex a lot, so seeing it all in ruin (I'll see myself out) has been bittersweet.

I actually had fun playing Security Breach and being involved in this subsection of the fnaf fandom, I only enjoy making headcanons for the Glamrocks but it's still entertaining. I hope Ruin is worth the wait, because I'm definitely playing it when it comes out...

Also I'm looking forward to see whatever this thing is... it's probably the "Mimic" in a physical body.

Do you agree that anyone that uses death of the author as argument shouldn't be arguing about a text? Because according to them all interpretations are valid so why argue against other people's interpretations?

I guess it's part of the duality of fandom life - people want to talk about the game are very involved in it, but they also create fun headcanons to explore said game's lore/setting/characters.

So in way, participating in fandom and even writing fanfiction, or saying stupid things like "hc : Nabateans attach a great importance to golden trinkets" is, in a way, pushing your own interpretation over the game's.

But at one point, it depends on what you want to argue about.

Argue about headcanon? Uh... it's like arguing about what topping you prefer on your ice cream. It's your ice cream, your tastes, so you can prefer chocolate cookies or peanuts and it's, you know, not open to discussion as in "talking with you made me realise peanuts are was tastier than chocolate chip cookies".

I like to talk and discuss and see other people's headcanons because it's fun and when some of ours match we can nerd about pointless things like warm rocks or nabatean laying eggs, but you won't see me being an ass and tell them "uh your headcanon sucks, you should put blue cheese on your ice cream".

Now, arguing about canon?

FE16 (and Fe Fodlan in general) is a game where the devs forgot to hire a continuity game and thought letting the world "vague" would make it look "deeper and richer" than it is. 10k years of lore, after all. And we have at least 2 unreliable narrators, that are Lords so who are protagonists and usually should be believed... expect that the game shows us they're full of nonsense regarding various topics.

But, unlike headcanon, canon isn't subjective, it's the same game (well... depending on the audio, it's not) everyone played, some people were kind enough to create a website where every line (+ dub!) is available, so it's not a question of interpretation as much as going to read and check the datamine website and the hundreds of YT videos, were people recorded their PT.

Was Burnie surrounded by flames, effectively preventing her escape from her pyre, or not?

Does Cyril mention to Mercedes how he only ate every couple of days before coming to the monastery (so under House Goneril's good care and in the Almyran army) or not?

Those things can be easily checked, and there's no interpretation.

If you don't like canon, you can churn out headcanon and have fun developing them, maybe finding people who like them and expend them themselves!

But for various reasons (is it because fanfiction has a bad rep since the 2000s for being something, idk, teenage girls write? or because it's not seen as very serious (tm) as a redshit post?) some people in the Fodlan fandom don't really want to confess they don't like the canon, and prefer the headcanon/fanfiction version of the game portrayed through a certain fic that, in turn, influenced how canon is perceived by some devoted fans.

(and let's not forget the lolcalisation that, too, didn't like the base game and edited it for ~ reasons ~)

And imo, Death of the author, in those fandom circles, is a roundabout way to say "the canon is not conclusive so i interpret the situation as this, but it's totes not my headcanon nor a fanfiction bcs i'm no gross fangirl, it's still canon, but my interpretation of the canon"

Tldr : Arguing about headcanon is as pointless and fruitless as starting a shipwar, and in the 2020s apparently it's too shameful to confess liking/writing fanfictions, so instead you like and write "your own interpretations of canon or how it should be" instead, using various theories like "Death of the Author" to validate your creative process, bcs fanfics gross'n'bad'n'only for lonely teenager girls, i guess.

i want to write an hotd fanfic so bad… i’m watching the early GOT show too as well to try and wrap my head around the lore but i fear that my fic will still be very amateur and show that i don’t really have that big of a grasp on the lore and worldbuilding and language around me.. can you give any advice onto how to tackle this? any specific ways i should research or how to remember every little thing to make the story as accurate and correct as possible?

hi and welcome! don't worry, i have been through this exact process within this fandom haha. i was the queen of sparknoting my way through my lit classes in college when i didn't have other time, so i think i've kind of perfected the art of making it seem like you've deeply read something, even if you haven't.

let me give my usual disclaimer that i don't recommend reading fanfic to get a sense of characters or worldbuilding in a new fandom. that's because to a fresh eye, it's impossible to tell what is the author's invention/headcanon (which may be incorrect/ooc) and what is actual canon. fanfic writing should be about indulging yourself and your creativity, not about trying to cater to the most popular opinions even if you don't agree with them. so i really do recommend sticking to canon as much as possible, and being very deliberate about where and when you use fanon as a reference.

i create a tumblr blog for every fandom that i'm planning to write in to serve as a repository for my research and notes. this blog is unusual in that i forgot to make it private and then had too much fun engaging with y'all to go back. but my first posts were all specifically for stormbreak purposes. if you're nervous about putting things out there, you can password-lock your blog, so you're the only one with access. being able to sort with tags for characters, houses, etc. will be super helpful. another good idea is to take notes in google drive, since you can also search for things there and use the outline feature to navigate. the goal is to have one or two places where you compile all of your work that are easily navigable.

a really good starting place for research is this particular asoiaf wiki. i do not recommend any of the others, especially the ones based on individual shows, because those often do not include details that are in the books. i genuinely cannot tell you how many hours i've spent on this wiki. start your research here- look for dates, places, events, houses, relationships, appearances, etc.

meta analysis is also a really good idea to gain knowledge. tumblr or reddit are the places to go for this. it's really important to seek out posts that are both sympathetic and unsympathetic towards characters or houses. the goal is to get a sense of the different opinions within fandom, and decide which ones make sense to you. on tumblr, you can search a term, select for text posts, and scroll until you find big walls of text. (as an aside: if you're doing this, blocking tags related to fanfiction, imagines, xreader, etc. will help streamline your search and filter out headcanons in favor of meta)

lastly, and be careful with this one since it is fanon but not canon: memes! twitter and tiktok are great for these. they're great for getting a sense of vibes, but not for actual canon facts about a character. remember, fanon can sometimes be very distant from or even contradictory with canon, so take these with a grain of salt. i do still find them useful for forming opinions about personalities, mannerisms, and attitudes of different characters.

2. Vexen, Kingdom Hearts

I Legit think this man primed me to enjoy Hux as a character. Like, I'm not kidding, I was obsessed with him as a kid. I'm 90% certain I wrote deviant art fan fic, but I have since abandoned that account so it's hard to know for sure if it ever got published. I was definitely roll playing at age, like, 13? way too young but god I loved him he was BATSHIT

3. Ianto Jones, Torchwood

Man, I can't really explain how much Ianto Jones as a character, he and Jack's kiss on screen, their relationship, and the events of the 456 changed me? It was DEEP though, I woke up the next day a different person, with much less trust in television writer's and their good intentions.

We have to jump a few years to mid high school, because no joke I was on that Kingdom Hearts train for a WHILE. I love him, he was probably my first blorbo, before the term was invented. My first real fandom bicycle, I ship her with everyone from Loki to Agent Coulson to Natasha. As someone who often feels like the comic relief character in their own life, I appreciate her.
