PART 6 | AFTER FIVE YEARS
Pairing: Carlos Sainz x Reader
Summary: Carlos Sainz finally met his son he had with her ex-wife, Y/N.
Warning: Typos
AN: Please don't mind the time stamps

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You choose a casual and comfortable outfit for the day: a white tee, beige trousers, and a white cardigan, and finish it off by spraying Chanel Paris Deauville on your neck and wrist.
“Mama, where are you going?” Asks Cael, who is lying on your bed, watching you get ready.
You sit on the edge of the bed and stroke your son's hair. “Remember what you told Mama yesterday when we were having pancakes? You said you wanted to see Papa and watch his race. So, Mama is going to see Papa today and ask if you can watch his race,” you gently explain.
“Really Mama? You'll meet Papa?” Cael sits up, flashing a vibrant smile.
“Yes, my love. I can't bring you because Papa and I need to talk first. But someone who misses you is coming to take care of you,” you say, placing Cael on your lap and planting a kiss on his plump cheeks. He gives you a confused face, wondering who's been missing him.
“You wanna take a guess?” you ask, smiling at your son who is trying to figure it out.
“Is it Uncle Charles, Mama?” Cael guesses.
“Oh, how did you know?” you ask, surprised that he got it right.
“He always misses me. He says so even though we often meet, Mama,” Cael says, causing you to laugh.
Tumblr media
As you two are playing in your bedroom, the doorbell rings. It's Charles.
“Hey buddy!” Charles immediately lifts Cael, ignoring you who opened the door for him.
“Hello to you too Charles,” you said sarcastically.
“Hello, Y/N” he said, greeting you too late.
“Thanks for coming, Charles,” you say, while he's busy kissing your son.
“But stop smooshing your face on my son's face. It’s a bit too much,” you add.
“Can't help it, he is so cute,” Charles replies.
“I'll go now, please take care of him,” you say, kissing your son goodbye. And before you can even open the door, Charles yells something.
“Don't forget to bring a condom!”
“Shut up, Charles” you said while flashing your middle finger to him.
“Uncle Charles, what's a condom?” Cael asked him.
“Uhm, it's a balloon bud. So you won't have another sibling when they get back.” Charles grins at Cael who is confused about how a balloon prevents him from having a baby brother or sister.
Tumblr media
When you arrive at the restaurant, Carlos is already there waiting for you. He greets you with a smile as you approach his table. The atmosphere feels lighter than the last time you two met.
Maybe it's just the sunlight that makes everything seem brighter.
“Did you already order?” you immediately ask as you sit down.
“Uhm, not yet,” Carlos replies. You call out for the waiter to order.
As you scan the menu, Carlos interjects, “You want your usual?” Surprised, you nod and let him order for you.
“One creamy mushroom pesto for her, please, and one tomato pasta for me,” he orders.
So he still remembers what I like. Interesting.
“Thank you for coming, Y/N. I'm sorry about..” Carlos starts.
“Let's not talk about it Carlos. I'm good, we're good. Things like that happen,” you interrupt. Carlos can tell that you're still upset about what he said but you want to move past it.
“We came here to Madrid because Cael has been asking for you. He badly wants to meet you.”
“I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner about our son because, well, things happened between us,” you say, lowering your gaze to the table.
“I understand, Y/N. Like you said, things happen,” Carlos replies.
“He knows you, Carlos. He knows what you do. He knows that you're his father. You just have to meet him,” you say, meeting his gaze and offering a small smile.
“Thank you, Y/N.”
The pastas arrive and you both start to eat.
“I'm so excited to finally introduce myself to him. But I'm also kinda nervous,” Carlos admits.
“You don't have to worry about it, Carlos. Your son really loves you,” you reassure him.
“Can you tell me about Cael? Like when he was born? What does he like? How is he?” Carlos asks shyly. He wants to get to know his son and catch up on the four years he's missed.
“Well, Cael was born on March 15. He's really cute, looks just like you,” you begin.
“So you're telling me I'm cute?” Carlos teases, interrupting you. You give him a stern look before continuing.
“Ugh, I hate your smile,” you say, rolling your eyes at him.
The audacity of this man, really.
“He loves cars, I think more than you do. He's also very smart and observant. Our son is very empathetic,” you continue.
“Really?”
“Yeah, you'll be amazed when you finally get to know him,” you assure him.
“How about you? How are you?” he asks.
“You have nothing to do with me, let's keep it that way,” you say, putting up an immediate barrier. You can only allow Carlos to be part of your son's life, but not yours. He caused too much damage in the past, and you won't allow further heartbreak.
I've had enough, Carlos.
Tumblr media
After an hour or two, you and Carlos drive to your place. You're silent the whole time, thinking about how happy Cael will be to finally meet his father.
Before you can even get out of the car, Carlos takes a deep breath.
“Hey, look at me, Carlos. Don't worry, okay? Everything will be fine,” you say, absentmindedly cupping his face.
“Sorry,” you apologize, removing your hands from his face.
“It's okay,” Carlos says, amidst the awkwardness.
Once inside, you find Charles playing with Cael in the living room. Cael immediately runs to you when he sees you.
You enter first while Carlos waits outside for your signal.
“Hey, how was it?” Charles asks, referring to your meeting with Carlos.
“He's outside,” you mouth, while holding your son.
“Okay, my job is done. I'll go now, Y/n. You two take care.” Charles fist bumps with Cael before leaving. He sees Carlos standing at the door and wishes him luck.
“Cael, honey. Do you remember Uncle Chili?” Cael nods at you.
“You mentioned that he looks like Papa, right? Actually, he doesn't just look like Papa. He is Papa,” you explain.
“Really Mama? So Uncle Chili is my Papa?” Cael's face lights up. You nod and open the door.
“Hey bud,” Carlos greets Cael.
“PAPA!” Cael immediately runs to Carlos. Their embrace is warm and heartfelt, much like the first time they met.
“Thank you,” Carlos mouths to you in between their hugs and tears of joy begin to fall from his eyes.

What some people miss when talking about the Fionna and Cake finale is the fact that if Simon's and Betty's arc didn't end how it ended, they had no "happier" option that would be coherent with the series at large
They are the doomed pairing at the center of it all, them realizing just how doomed they were, recognizing it and having their goodbyes was as good as they'd have it, because any other course of action either still dooms them or it dooms the whole world, and that's what all the parallel universes showed
If Simon and Betty never got to the crown, maybe if Simon had gone on with Betty to see the petroglyphs and their sacrifices were more evened out from the beginning, still not too long later the mushroom war would still have erupted, the bombs dropped and as normal humans it's almost certain they'd have died. Marceline would grow up without Simon, and now we're in the universe of the star
If Simon stayed in a half-transformed state, where he's neither fully Ice King nor fully Simon, we get the Winter King and someone has to be the recipient of the "crown madness" as was PB in that universe (plus, more importantly to not feel "insane" he didn't transfer the magic or the Gunther that comes with the crown, he mostly just transferred his sadness about Betty which manifested in him stealing princesses to be his brides. Thus the Winter King doesn't even remember her)
If he'd become Ice King again, he'd turn back to living not as himself, lost within the crown and depressed deep down because of it. Plus the messaging of succumbing back to an addiction he couldn't get out of because he was absolutely self destructive since without Betty his life didn't matter to him
If he'd put on the crown and stopped the bomb, Betty probably would've continued living, forever missing his memory just as he forever missed her in the main timeline. Plus eventually we get to farmworld reality
Truly the only alternative course of action that maybe could've worked somehow in terms of keeping them both alive and together for more than like 2 years would be if Betty didn't leave through the Hambo portal and maybe stayed to find Marcy along with Simon, making him less self-destructive and careless about his transformation and what it brings at the same since she'd be there too. But then there'd come a point where unassisted with magic, Betty would die anyway, and Simon would go down the Ice King path again
They're forever doomed
The events will happen, happening, happened, so on and so forth
And at least in their doom they were able to recognize it, have a moment of sincerity, Simon apologized for not seeing her sacrifices, and they both know that things could've been different, maybe better, maybe not, but regardless all their actions were taken and they have to live with them. So all in all, it's great that at last they recognize it as an experience they wouldn't trade for anything anyway, and life goes on. For Simon, with Betty's support through Golb he was able to go back and see worth in jeeping on living and going on new adventures instead of remaining stagnant for her who's never going to be back as he knew her. And Betty got to be a god, she got omnipotence, she got to protect Simon from the last obstacle to his safety: himself. And in the end it seems to imply she might've separated from Golb and become a catalyst comet herself, to be reborn
It's that signature bitter sweetness and acceptance that flawed people live flawed lives with shitty and great parts alike that's so signature adventure time. And it all will happen, happening happened and will happen again and again

Don't Chew More Than You Can Swallow
Johnny Suh x Male Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
cw: top johnny, pseudo-incest, underwear kink, musk kink, degradation, praising, breeding, hickeys, blowjob, deepthroat, manhandling, implied size kink, snowballing, age gap (yn is 20 and johnny is 25).
an: this is the other idea from @ldrei
also i was lazy to think about names for the mom and the stepfather so yuh.
“ok yn, i want you to put on a smile on that face we're almost near the house” yn's mom said while driving towards their new home.
some years ago yn was part of a loving and happy family until one day his father, an honorable police officer, died during a raid against a gang. yn and his mother were devastated, mourning his death for the next couple of months. but life goes on and we have to let go and move on, right? after like a year yn's mother started dating another police officer, months later they made their relationship official and decided to get married, which brings us to the beginning of the story, yn and his mother would move to their new home, where yn's new father and new brother, a 25 years old guy, live already.
“hello we're home” yn's mom greeted, “hey honey” yn's stepdad appeared and kissed her, “hey yn, how are you?”; “i'm good.. thanks” he replied, “glad to know that” the older man said with a smile on his face.
yn walked towards the kitchen searching for a glass to drink some water, “the cups are up there” someone said, yn turned around and there he was his new stepbrother “the name's johnny” he extended his hand and yn grabbed it to shake it, his hand was way bigger than yn's, “i'm yn.. n-nice to meet you” he laughed nervously, “i say the same, see you later then” johnny said winking at him and waving a goodbye.
a couple of months have passed, everything was going good for everyone except for yn. he was thirsting over johnny 24/7, when he walked around the house with just a short on and no underwear because he can clearly see his bulge swing around everytime he walks, his body is to die for ‘god i wish i could lick those abs right now’ thought yn. it was even more harder for yn to not think about johnny fucking him when he was on the room next to him rearranging some woman's insides, the banging sounds going straight to yn's ears, ‘i wish that was me’ he thought. and that's the only thing yn can do, fantasize about him because well… his stepbrother is straight.
johnny sent yn to search something in his room, he did as he was told but something catches his attention, a pair of underwears resting on a pile of clothes. driven by his impulses, he grabbed one and began to sniff it, his face immediately turning red and a bulge growing in his pants "johnny~" he moaned softly.
he went quickly to his room, locked the door and began to jerk off, wrapping the underwear around his cock sliding it up and down while biting a pillow to suppress the moans.
the weeks passed and yn's desire for johnny only increased. every time johnny brought someone home to fuck, while his parents were away, yn always masturbated listening to their moans.
one day yn was masturbating again with his the underwear until a voice interrupted him, "hey yn!" a shirtless johnny called opening the door with a bang "what the hell were you doing? i've been calling you for a while" he asked with a somewhat angry tone. "sorry johnny, what do you want?" yn questioned, "these last few months you have been the one picking the dirty clothes to take them to the laundry room, have you by any chance seen my underwear? they have been missing” he scratches his head. “i have no idea johnny” yn replied with a nervous laugh. “hmm… it's okay” and just like that, johnny left.
worried that johnny would find out, he grabbed all the dirty clothes and ran down to the laundry room. there he turned on the washing machine and placed the underwear there and just when he was going to press the button to start the washing cycle a big hand stopped him, a low and very deep voice whispered in his ear "i thought you didn't know where my fucking underwear was" the warm breath sending shivers down his spine, “you're such a dirty pervert yn” he laugh was deep and sexy.
“j-johnny i-i” yn didn't know what to do, “you thought you were slick with it but no, did you think i didn't notice how you stared at me every time i walked around the house shirtless, how your eyes went from my abs to my bulge, shit i even could feel how you fucked me with your eyes”. johnny positioned himself behind yn, his huge bulge rubbing against yn's ass, "even every night i fucked someone i could hear your slutty moans on the other side of the wall, how you moaned my name was… so sexy... now i kinda want to hear them again" the taller was leaving small kisses on yn's neck, he then took out his huge cock from his shorts and rubbed it on yn's clothed ass “do you want to taste my cock, yn?", his sexy low voice doing things down there on yn's crotch area.
“j-johnny” yn stuttered “i-i'm sorry” a little moan escaping his mouth. “if you want to apologize you have to take responsibility about this” he slams his thick heavy cock against yn's ass again. “y-yes” yn fell to his knees and started kissing the tip, using one hand to stroke the rest of the shaft while the other was stroking his own.
“you're so nasty yn, look at you sucking at your brother's cock. aren't you such a nasty slut huh?” johnny grabs his head and starts to mouthfuck him, forcing yn to deepthroat him, “come on you can do more than that, it's barely halfway in”, little by little yn swallowed it all, johnny locked his head with his arms. the gagging sounds being like music to his ears. “there you go, you're doing so good for me”.
johnny lifted yn and fold him against the washing machine, rubbing the tip of his cock in the other's hole “want me to destroy you, cockwhore?” he says once again using that sexy low voice that drives yn crazy “p-please~ do it”.
johnny was slamming so hard that the washing machine was moving too, yn's legs were shaking due to how good johnny was fucking him, "how does my little fucktoy feel.. is this what you wanted? my thick, heavy cock opening your ass?"; “yes johnny please wreck me” yn replied withiut thinking, “so desperate”.
johnny lifted yn and carried him from the laundry room to his bedroom but without stopping fucking him. the thrusts were slow but as powerful as the harsh ones because he always manages to brush yn's prostate with the tip of his cock, drawing whimpers out of his mouth that made johnny chuckle, ‘so cute’ he thinks.
they're finally on the bedroom, johnny throw yn towards his bed, attacking his neck with kisses and leaving some bruises here and there. his big, tall body towering over yn's. “i have a deal for you” the taller comments, “if you can take me without cumming you'll be my little fucktoy boyfriend. what do you think?” he keeps on kissing yn's body until he reaches the nipples and suck on them. “hngh i really w-want that” the bottom squirmed.
the fat cock went in and out, going in even harder than the last time, johnny's balls slapping against yn's ass “who's being a good cockwhore?” the top asks, “m-... me” yn struggles to answer due to the harsh thrusts “i'm johnny's g-good cockwhore”.
“but you're only mine right?”.
“yeah i'm only yours…”.
both sealed the deal with a gentle kiss, contrasting with the rough thrusts. “fuck i'm gonna cum” johnny growls, he took advantage of the fact that his cock reached so deep inside yn to make him cum, however he let himself be carried away by the moment and filled yn's ass up with that warm sperm.
yn barely managed to hold off his cumming so johnny now has to fulfill the deal they just made. "it seems like i'm your little fucktoy boyfriend now"; "i think so," johnny adds, “and a cute one”.
“you took me so well pretty boy, i think you deserve a threat” and as he said that he went down and started to suck yn's cock “j-johnny you don't have to~”; “mmm mmm, i want to, prince” the sweet name embarrasing yn so much that he covered his face with his arms, feeling the little chuckle the taller let out. with a few more strokes yn came inside johnny's mouth, “shit that's some good blowjob johnny” yn rode his high while johnny crawls up until he is face to face with yn, with one hand he opens the bottom's mouth and spits the sperm in there, then kisses and plays with it between their mouths.
johnny carries yn to the bathroom where they both take a bath, then get dressed and fall asleep in the bed.
“look at them, aren't they cute” yn's mom said watching them both sleeping while hugging, “yeah i think they're gonna be good brothers” the stepdad adds with a huge smile in his face.

A.N. I feel like this is kinda short compared to my other works but I still hope you have fun reading <3

You were at a club with your friends and currently seated around a table sipping your drinks and talking nonsense. As most of the times you and your friends got a bit drunk, the subject of your conversation was drifting towards nsfw territory. Your innocent question about favorite cocktails turned into a discussion about blowjobs.
"Tonight I chose piña colada because you know what they say about pineapple" Haechan winked at you, making you roll your eyes, but bringing a not well concealed smile on your face nonetheless.
A chorus of groans, giggles and bickering was interrupted by Jisung, a confused expression on his face "What do they say about pineapple?", the youngest soon regretting asking the question when Chenle answered in a loud voice "You're so clueless, everyone knows it makes your cum taste better!", a pair of girls passing by turned their heads towards the two boys as they heard the exchange, Jisung blushing hard and diverting his eyes from them as he tried to silence his friend, Chenle bursting out laughing at the scene.
"You know" Haechan picked up the conversation again "mine tastes like smoothie" and he sipped his drink while staring at you.
"No one believes you" Renjun stated, Jeno nodding beside him.
"How do you even know, did you taste it yourself?" Mark argued, Jaemin almost snorting his drink out from his nose, you almost choking on your own drink.
Haechan acted offended, frowning and getting louder as he spoke "Anyone wanna try it? I dare you!"
He earned a mix of disgusted faces and 'eww's from the table until Jaemin commented "Y/N doesn't seem too much against it" a playful look in his eyes.
Everyone turned to you, who stayed silent sipping from your straw. You didn't know if it was the alcohol, Haechan's amused gaze on you or the crush you had on him from two years ago, or maybe everything together, but eventually you put your drink down on the table, stared back at Heachan, shrugged and replied "Maybe I wanna try so I can judge by myself."
Howls and whistles erupted from your friends, Haechan though was strangely quiet, just a sly smirk on his face while the two of you maintained eye contact for a few seconds before he turned his attention to the rest of your friends "Enough, clearly Y/N drank a bit too much, now you guys should go and have fun dancing and picking up some girls while I take her home so she can rest and sober up-"
"I'm not that drunk" you protested, interrupting him.
"Y/N, come on, I'm trying to come up with an excuse here" he sighed dramatically, getting up from his chair, coming to you and grabbing your hand, starting to drag you out from the club while waving goodbye to your friends "Jeno, Jaemin, you should take a taxi later to get back home, I'm gonna be busy."
Everyone was flabbergasted at the sudden turn of events, just like you as well, starting to laugh as soon as you realized what was happening and letting Haechan escort you to his car.
"Haechan, wait, I thought you were joking... Are we really leaving?" you questioned, still hoping this wouldn't turn out to be one of his silly jokes.
He turned around to you while opening the driver's door "Y/N I'm so serious right now, unless you wanna go back inside and tell them it was a joke."
You looked him in the eyes and opened the front passenger's door "Get inside the car."
And he obeyed, inserting the key to start the engine as soon as you closed the doors. You stopped him though, worried about the risks of driving after drinking and making him pout "You have a point but I really wanted to go to your place or somewhere private"
You looked around the dark parking lot "We're in a corner, it's dark, there's no one around, everyone is inside having fun..."
Haechan struggled to stay focused as you stroked his thigh, inching up more and more until you managed to unzip his jeans and tuck your hand inside to slowly and steadily stroke at his half hard member through his boxers, bringing more blood to it as it swelled up under the pressure of your tantalizing hand.
"There's other cars around here, what if someone comes too close..." he started to argue, trying to convince himself more than you, but eventually sighing deeply at your ministrations, his eyelids fluttering closed.
"It will just look like you're sleeping, no one will notice" you reassured him, removing your hand from his boxers just to push them down enough to free his now erect member, resuming your strokes and inching closer with your face.
His lips slightly parted as he let out a soft moan, hand finding your hair as you finally reached out your tongue to tease the underside of his tip. He tried to push a little to stop your teasing, impatience getting the best of him but you warned him grazing the tip with your teeth, earning a hiss from him, his pleading eyes now set on yours and swifting to your mouth, so close to his member but still not giving him what he really wanted.
Haechan felt so desperate, it just slipped out of his mouth before he could realize "Please... Take it, please..."
Your pussy pulsed and you felt your folds getting wetter with your arousal "I'll make you feel good" you purred and with your tongue flat on the underside of his cock you finally closed your lips around the tip and hollowed your cheeks, giving it a nice suck, Haechan instinctively fisting your hair to ground himself at the sensation.
You started to bob your head on his cock, occasionally hollowing your cheeks, sucking and swirling your tongue on the tip, dipping it in the slit collecting his precum. You had to admit it tasted good and doubled your efforts to make him cum faster so you could taste his seed.
Hachan felt dizzy, he couldn't decide if he wanted to savor the moment with his eyes closed or if he wanted to stay focused watching the way your mouth and hand worked on him.
He tasted so good and was responding so well, moaning and hissing every time you sucked on the tip and twisted your hand on his slick base, you couldn't help but get cock drunk, moaning around his cock and feeling your wetness seep through your panties.
Haechan realized he was getting too loud so he clamped his free hand on his mouth to try and keep it quiet, his other hand still tangled in your hair, pulling a little as he started get closer to the edge, calling your name in quiet whispers to try and warn you.
You heard him but didn't care, and instead brought your free hand to fondle his balls encouraging him to let it go, sucking greedily on his head and pumping the lenghth with your other hand.
That's when you felt the grip on your hair tightening, his breath hitching and finally letting go with a low moan, his cock twitching in your mouth as it spilled his thick seed on your tongue, a curse leaving his lips when he realized what he just did.
You kept softly sucking on his cock until he had nothing left to give you and you let it out of your mouth, a string of saliva breaking in the process.
Haechan watched you closely as you finally swallowed his cum with a gulp and smiled at him, teasing him repeating his own statement from earlier "It really tastes like smoothie."

Reaping Day was fast approaching, taking place next week, and I still wasn't sure what to do. I hadn't told Lucy Gray nor the Covey of Mayfair's plan, but it was killing me inside. After a lot of thought, I soon made a decision. The only thing I was certain about was that I couldn't allow Lucy Gray to have her life stolen away, not when mine was right there for the taking. So, I was going to take her place. As long as the Capitol had their tribute, they wouldn't care who it was.
But Lucy Gray would. She'd never allow it, never be so selfish as to let someone else volunteer to die for her. But I could never let her go up there to die, so with that in mind, I concocted the perfect plan to keep her alive.
The night before the reaping arrived, I'd managed to convince Lucy Gray to let me sleep over at hers, claiming I was worried and wanted to feel safe on an otherwise horrible evening. Of course, she fell for it instantly, only reminding me of how right I was to do this. She was too sweet for her own good, especially to me.
The rest of the Covey were in their rooms preparing for bed when I returned from the kitchen to Lucy Gray's room with two glasses of water.
"Here," I said, passing her the glass before taking a seat on my makeshift bed on the floor beside her actual bed.
"Thanks," she said, before taking a sip. She pulled a face and looked at her glass. "Does that taste weird to you?"
I sipped my own water and played dumb, shaking my head. "It's alright to me."
She furrowed her brows, "Huh," before downing the rest of it and putting it next to her bed.
I told myself that slipping some of my dad's crushed sleeping pills in her water was for her own good, that it needed to happen to keep her safe, but a small part of me still felt guilty for tricking her like this. I needed her to sleep in though, to miss the reaping, or at least miss the part where they call her name. After all, she couldn't stop me from volunteering if she wasn't there to witness it happen.
We both laid down in our beds, getting comfortable under our duvets. In the quiet of the evening, I could hear Tam Amber snoring from next door and smiled to myself at the familiarity. It would be the last I'd hear of it, ever.
"I don't have a good feelin' about tomorrow," Lucy Gray said quietly, earning my attention.
"Huh?"
She sounded cautious. "Something is tellin' me Mayfair has something' up her sleeve." I widened my eyes slightly, wondering if she knew what I did, but then she let out a deep, tired sigh and said, "I can't wait for it to be over."
I frowned to myself. "Me too."
She yawned, and I knew I didn't have long before she'd fall asleep, which meant I only had so much time left with her before I'd never speak to her again. That thought alone brought tears to my eyes.
"No matter what happens tomorrow, I'm glad you've been my friend, Lucy Gray," I said honestly.
"Shut up," she said lightheartedly, an echo of a laugh present in her tired voice. "You're already sayin' goodbye and nothin' has happened."
"You never know," I said, glad that it was dark so she couldn't see me, because I wasn't sure I could say all this to her face. "Just listen, okay? I need you to know that I love you and I couldn't have asked for a better person in my life. Thank you for always being there for me. For caring."
"I love you, too," she said between a yawn, "more than you know, darlin'. And I'll tell you again tomorrow mornin', when we're still together. Idiot."
A smile formed on my lips at her teasing, but the tears slipped from my eyes because I was going to miss her so much, so much more than she would ever know.
"Y/N?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you, too, for bein' here right now," she said, though she was already slipping away, voice slowing down between each word.
"Of course," I said quietly. "Always."
She chuckled, or an attempt at a chuckle in her exhausted state. "I'll hold you to that," she said jokingly, before yawning again. "Mmm super tired. G'night..."
"Goodnight, Lucy Gray."
Tumblr media
When I woke up to the sun shining in my eyes the next morning, I looked over at Lucy Gray and saw her fast asleep in bed. I tried to wake her, but she didn't budge, and I prayed that it would stay that away until the reaping was over.
Quickly getting ready, I could hear the others doing the same in the house. And then a succession of knocks was heard on Lucy Gray's door and Barb Azure poked her head in.
"Y/N, Lucy Gray, we've gotta–" she started, but stopped when she saw Lucy Gray still in bed. "For goodness sake, Lucy Gray, we're gonna be late! You've got–"
"I'll get her up and out of here, don't worry," I reassured Barb Azure with a nod and smile. "We'll meet you in the square."
Relieved, she nodded. "Okay, good. Good luck."
I smiled appreciatively before watching her leave, and then my smile faded and I focused on finishing getting ready. After pulling on my shoes and tying up my hair, I looked over at Lucy Gray who was still out like a light, unbothered by the noise or the daylight. She was lying on her side, duvet half covering her, and her curly hair sprawled across her pillow and in her eyes. I leaned down, moving the loose strand behind her ear, before taking in her appearance once more.
"I'm sorry," I whispered to her, not that it would have made a difference. "I love you, Lucy Gray, and I know you're gonna be angry and upset at first, but you'll get over it. You'll get over me. The Covey, they– they need you."
Swallowing hard and holding back my tears, sick of crying, I leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her forehead before standing up and sucking up a deep breath. Pulling the duvet on her a little more, I forced myself to turn and leave, not wanting to linger any longer.
By the time I reached the square, everyone eligible for the reaping was already lined up in order of age. Just as I was about to join them, Barb Azure, who was nineteen and no longer to be considered, caught my gaze and sent me a questioning look.
'She's there', I mouthed, lying, and pointing to the lined up teens.
She didn't seem to understand, but it didn't matter because a Peacekeeper was already yelling orders at me, and then I was shoved into line and the mayor was telling everybody to quieten down. After his usual spiel about the importance of the Games, no doubt a script given to him from the Capitol, he began to dig his hand into a bag of slips with everyone's names on it. Yanking it out, he barely glanced at it before announcing what I feared.
"The District Twelve girl tribute is Lucy Gray Baird."
Murmurs flew around instantly, everyone looking around to find her, and I thanked my stars that she was safely asleep back home.
"Lucy Gray Baird," the mayor repeated, only intensifying the murmurs and leaving everyone confused. That was my chance.
Raising my hand, I said in the most confident voice I could muster, "I volunteer as tribute!"
Nobody knew what to do, but all eyes were on me, including the stupid cameras the Capitol brought with them, televising the whole thing. The mayor seemed surprised because it was absolute insanity that somebody would volunteer – why would you want to die?
The Peacekeepers took a moment to jump into action, eventually guiding me to the stage as they were supposed to. I passed Billy Taupe on the way, who was looking awfully guilty for someone who was once family to the Covey, and then I passed Mayfair, who was silently raging at the sight of her plans falling to pieces.
Once I stepped onstage and turned around, I caught sight of the Covey scattered in the crowd, between those that were potential tributes and those that were too old/young to take part. They seemed shocked, but I found Barb Azure's eyes and smiled a little, offering a reassuring nod. I hoped she would understand.
Lastly, my eyes found my father's, a struggle at first, considering he was tucked away at the back, forced to be present but not wanting to be. He seemed surprised at my volunteering and, for a split second, I thought he cared. But his actions remain still and I know it was probably just good riddance for him, nothing more.
I didn't expect anything less.
Only when I was on the train, being carted away to my death with the other twenty-three tributes, did I feel complete and utter relief for Lucy Gray. She was truly safe, free from the Games for another year at least, which was more than I could ask for. And maybe Mayfair would get over her vendetta by then, who knew?
Of course, now that the relief had settled in, it didn't take long for it to be replaced by concern because now I was in the Games. And I had no plan, no strategy, nothing.
Tumblr media
After the Games...
I wasn't sure how I managed it, but I'd won. I'd really done the impossible, and barely a week later, I found myself on a train back to District Twelve with a little money and a broken arm, but otherwise alive.
Even though I'd expected to die, winning never really being an option, my survival instincts kept kicking in and I just kept getting lucky. And now here I was.
I could never forget what I'd witnessed during the Games, ever, and I wasn't sure if it was worth winning if it meant I would be haunted by all I'd experienced. But I couldn't argue with it because I was finally returning home and I didn't know what to think. It had only been a week, but I'd left a girl and was returning a murderer.
After the train pulled into the station, I was on my own and didn't even think about where my feet were taking me until I found myself walking through the Seam, back to my house. I was relieved to find my dad was at work, not in the mood to face him after all this time. I wasn't sure if anybody even knew I was alive, that I'd won, considering nobody here even had a working TV.
After all I'd endured in the Games, my father was the least of my worries. I refused to be pushed around by him anymore and knew I was going to leave as soon as I could. Even if it meant camping outside, living on the streets, I'd go. I'd figure something out, but for now, I was just lucky to be able to see my bedroom again.
As I sat on my lumpy bed and breathed a sigh of relief, I thought of the Covey, and then of Lucy Gray. Oh, how I'd missed her dearly. She was the only thought I'd had this past week, all of this being for her in the first place. I was just glad she hadn't had to endure everything I had. The guilt and shame of my actions to bring me where I was now was eating away at me, but I would have rather it been me than her.
I missed her, so so much. And I knew I couldn't wait any longer, so I immediately got up and headed straight for their house. It wasn't far from my own, though there's was much closer to the woods. When I approached, I saw Maude Ivory and Tam Amber sat outside, the former milking her goat and the latter planting some flowers. It was Maude Ivory who did a double take first, before she shouted my name and immediately ran up to me, startling me with an intense hug.
It had felt like forever since I'd had any human affection, and I couldn't help but return her hug with a relieved smile, missing her.
"I can't believe you're back!" she was saying, as the others soon began to join one by one, hugging me tightly.
"You really won!"
"We saw you on the TV one night, we were so scared."
"Thank you for volunteerin', you saved our Lucy Gray's life."
I could barely keep up with their compliments, unsure how to respond, but touched that they cared enough to be here.
And then I saw Lucy Gray, finally, as she walked out from the back door of the house, mouth agape when she noticed me. My eyebrows raised a little, hopeful, upon seeing her again. It hadn't been long, and yet it had felt like forever since I'd last seen her.
Barb Azure began to motion to the others to follow her back inside. "Let's give them some space, everyone."
They began to leave, doing just that, and without their presence, I suddenly felt exposed before Lucy Gray. I straightened up, trying to look a little more presentable, but acutely self conscious of my black eye, scarred lip and broken arm.
"Hey," I said, embarassed at how quiet it came out.
She stopped before me, watching me like I was a ghost. "You're really here."
I nodded slowly. "Yeah. I didn't think I would be, but somehow, I won."
But it wasn't somehow, was it? I knew what I did to win.
She suddenly frowned, looking betrayed. "You drugged me."
Realising she was upset, I said, "It was only a sleeping pill."
Her stare hardened. "You knew. You knew it was going to be my name."
I cowered away slightly, saying, "I overheard–"
"You lied to me," she cut me off, "drugged me, volunteered like a fool and–"
"It couldn't be you," I told her sternly. "You're needed here. They need you and I couldn't let you be chosen because of some silly feud, not when I found out. It had to be me. Nobody would miss me and–"
"I would!" she shouted, and I realised her eyes were full of tears as she glared at me. "You asshole, I would! I did! I needed you! You don't get to trick me and make that choice for me and just leave!"
I felt horribly guilty as she spoke, but deep down, I didn't regret my actions.
"Lucy Gray, you would've gotten over me," I said calmly, looking between her eyes. "You would've."
She narrowed her eyes with a glare. "Fuck you."
"Lucy–"
"No, fuck you!" she yelled, shoving me backwards. "You don't get to say that! Like you know how I feel about you!"
I pressed my lips together, feeling my heart ache as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"Fuck you," she murmured, before turning around and storming away, past the house and towards the meadow.
I frowned, watching her leave and feeling immense guilt pressing on my chest. I'd never seen her so upset, not in all the time I'd known her, and knowing I was the reason for it only made this whole thing worse.
Barb Azure left the house and approached me with an apologetic frown on her lips.
"I heard what happened," she said sympathetically. "Sorry."
I shook my head. "I didn't mean to upset her."
"We're all grateful for what you did," she said. "She is, too. A small part. But mostly, she's upset because she grieved you. Tried to, at least. She thought you were dead."
"I was supposed to be, if it helps," I mumbled. "I didn't think I'd be coming back here, facing her like this."
It was supposed to be a faceless goodbye. She wasn't supposed to see me again, nor I her. Now, I'd only made things worse.
"She missed you so much," Barb Azure told me knowingly. "She's angry and stubborn, but she missed you, Y/N. Go to her."
I looked up, seeing the encouraging smile on her lips, and figured if anyone knew Lucy Gray more than she did, it was her family. So, with that slight positivity in mind, I followed in the direction of Lucy Gray with hope to fix this. It didn't take long for me to find her in the meadow, sat by her favourite tree and hunched over, crying into her hands.
I tried to approach quietly, but she noticed and suddenly stood up, turning around to glare at me through her tears.
"What do you want? Go away!" she ordered.
I ignored her, taking a step forward, and she only yelled at me more.
"I said go away! I don't wanna speak to you right now!"
Again, I ignored her and continued to approach her.
"Leave me alone, you asshole! I said leave!"
I hugged her before she could protest even more, my good arm tightening around her shoulders desperately, and then she finally stopped shouting and hugged me back just as tightly. I squeezed my eyes shut, tears threatening to spill because I never thought I'd see her again, let alone hug her like my life depended on it.
"I'm sorry," I said into her shoulder. "I'm sorry a million times over, Lucy Gray. I never wanted to hurt you, but I don't regret what I did. I'd volunteer every single time."
She gripped my shirt in response, but didn't say anything. I swallowed hard before pulling away reluctantly, meeting her eyes with regret.
"I'm a fool, I know," I agreed with her words from before. "I'm sorry."
Her lip quivered as her eyes darted around my face, taking it in, fixating on the bruise and my scarred lip. She lifted her hand, touching my cheek tenderly, and my breath was caught in my throat at the attention.
"It weren't supposed to be you," she whispered with a broken voice.
"Nor you," I reminded her. "Mayfair cheated."
She shook her head, frowning and meeting my eyes. "You promised you wouldn't get involved, Y/N."
I exhaled through my nose, a sad smile on my lips. "I couldn't help it."
She didn't say anything, simply stared at me, and then she took a seat on the log next to the tree and I joined her, unsure what to do or say.
"I can't believe you're here," she admitted. "I thought I'd never see you again." Her eyes flickered between mine thoughtfully, before lowering to my broken arm in a sling. "How did it happen?"
I looked down at it, hesitating.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked," she said quickly, regretfully, but I shook my head.
"No, it's–" I paused, frowning shamefully. "It's how I won."
She grabbed my hand suddenly, making me look up at her.
"You don't have to tell me," she reassured with a nod.
I looked down at her hand on mine, nerves creeping in. "You wanna know, but... you won't look at me the same. And I don't want to lose you."
"Whatever you did in that arena isn't a reflection of who you are," she said with such a determination that I almost believed her. "It was life or death. And if it meant you're here now, alive, then I don't care."
I closed my eyes, nodding. "You're right. I– you're right."
She was patient, to my relief, and it took a moment for me to find my words.
"I'd spent most of the Games hiding," I began to tell her, comforted by the warmth of her hand in mine. "I avoided confrontation where I could, but one kid, he– he cornered me and had a knife. Managed to cut my lip... I disarmed him and ran with it. Used it to defend myself, injuring whoever got in my way, but never killing. I couldn't– I couldn't do that..."
...I was running, one of the others having found me in the tunnels and chasing me out into the open where they could no doubt kill me with ease. My lungs were screaming for air, burning with each step I took, but I kept pushing myself until I was in the stands. The other tribute followed me though, carrying a spear and swinging it my way.
I avoided each swing, knife in hand but myself unable to do anything with it, not without getting in close. And then they swung again, making me dodge, and slammed the blunt end of their spear into my back, pushing me over the edge of the stands and to the ground below with a loud crack. I would have a screamed at the unbearable pain from my arm, but I'd slammed my head onto the ground, leaving me dazed.
My vision was spinning and my arm was throbbing and I didn't know what was what, but then I heard someone's feet land behind me and I knew I had to play dead, my last chance at surviving. Through one open eye, I could see footsteps approaching, but also the glint of my knife which had dropped beside me during the fall. I stayed still, practically holding my breath as the other tribute leaned down to check if I was alive. And before they could try to turn me over, I grabbed the knife and stabbed the first thing I could touch.
Only when I heard the sounds of gurgling did I look to see what I'd done. My knife was lodged into their neck, their pleading eyes begging mine as I scrambled back out of fear, watching them die a slow and painful death without meaning to. I was certain I could never un-hear those noises, or un-see their death...
Tears wet my face when I finished telling Lucy Gray the story, and I was trembling slightly as the memories flashed in my head.
"I didn't want to," I told her, shaking my head guiltily. "I didn't. But it was the only way. The only way to be done. I– I'm not a murderer. I'm not. I'm–"
She pulled me in for a hug, rubbing soothing circles on my back. "It's okay. It's okay, Y/N."
I cried into her shoulder, but it didn't make me feel any better. I'd murdered someone, and now I'd live with the reminder forever.
"You did what you had to do," she tried to console me, but I knew it wasn't entirely true.
It wasn't over, not really. I'd see their faces everywhere, forever.
"I wish you didn't have to do that," she said after a moment, pulling away but holding my hand between hers. "And I haven't said it yet, but thank you for taking my place, even though I didn't want you to. You saved my life. I just wish it wasn't at the expense of your own."
She kissed my cheek before hugging me again, sighing contently.
"By the way, if you ever try to tell me how I feel, I'll kill you myself," she muttered into my shoulder. "I'm not losing you, ever."
I stayed quiet, wrapping my arm around her instead. I knew I'd do this all again if it meant she was safe. But she wouldn't understand.
Tumblr media
By the time word spread about my 'triumph' in the Games and return to District Twelve, I'd already moved out of my dad's place. He barely uttered a word to me, neither did he try stopping me. I wasn't sure if it was because he knew what I was capable of, or if he'd just been waiting for me to leave, but it was easier than I'd imagined.
My only choices were being homeless, moving into the community home full of kids with no parents or staying with the Covey. Naturally, it was easy to choose the latter, especially when Lucy Gray insisted I stayed with them.
It was easy at first, easier than I expected, to make myself at home and try to continue my life as it once was before the Games. I went back to work as soon as possible, even with one arm broken, did as many shifts as I could before the summer ended and I'd be back at school with less time to make money and afford food. I accompanied the Covey to the Hob, helping them prepare for their sets and encouraging people to donate money for their performances. It was almost normal.
But at night, that was when I couldn't seem to escape the true reality of what I'd been through. I'd fall asleep, no problem, and then my nightmares would feature different versions of the Games, bloody kills of the other tributes, the knot of fear in my chest expanding until I woke up in cold sweats and with wet eyes.
I couldn't tell anybody, especially not the Covey or Lucy Gray. I couldn't be a burden to them, not after all they'd done for me, but it was getting unbearable. The faces, they wouldn't stop haunting me. And the scar on my lip that wasn't fading only seemed to serve as a permanent reminder, frightening me because maybe I would never escape it. Maybe I'd suffer forever, a consequence of winning.
It happened again, tonight, and I woke with a start, eyes shooting open and mistaking the shadow on the ceiling for a predator in the dark. It took me a moment to remember where I was, what was real. Lucy Gray's bedroom. I was in the bed they'd set up for me, opposite hers, and the curtains were drawn, casting a ghastly blue glow around the room.
Wiping my eyes, I moved my legs over the side of the bed and glanced over at Lucy Gray, who was sound asleep. I was careful not to wake her as I slipped into some shoes and left the room, practicing the same caution as I left the house completely and sat outside on the garden furniture. The fresh air did much better to wake me up, reminding me where I was, and I simply sat there under the dark sky, trying to collect myself.
It was always the same. Some nights were worse than others, like tonight, where I'd be forced to step outside for some fresh. Other nights I could just brush it off and force myself to sleep. Would it ever get better?
I wasn't sure how long passed, but I heard the back door of the house opening and turned around, ready to apologise to whoever I'd woken. To my surprise, it was Lucy Gray.
"I didn't mean to wake you up," I said quickly, straightening up. "I can go back in. I–"
"Stop," she said softly, before taking a seat on the chair next to me, eyes never leaving mine.
I swallowed thickly, unable to hold her stare.
"I've tried to give you space," she said, the fatigue laced in her voice. "Since you've been here. I've seen you leave in the middle of the night... I'm worried, Y/N. Talk to me. Please."
Embarrassed I'd been caught out, I tried to reassure her. "I'm fine. It's nothing."
She scoffed quietly. "Are we not close enough that you shouldn't lie to me?"
I glanced at her, sighing when I saw the worry looking back at me.
"It's the Games, isn't it?" she asked carefully. "You're dreamin' of them."
I didn't trust my voice, so I could only nod weakly. She tensed her jaw slightly before moving her chair closer to me and pulling me in for a side hug. Leaning her head on my shoulder, she squeezed comfortingly, and I melted under her touch.
"Wake me when it happens," she encouraged. "It's not nice bein' alone when you've just had a nightmare."
"I'm not doing that," I started, a million reasons on the tip of my tongue for why I wouldn't subject her to that, but she cut me off pleadingly.
"Please. It'll make me feel better, knowin' I can at least be with you. Knowin' you're not alone. That I can help."
I didn't reply, unsure I could agree when I knew I just couldn't do it.
"I'm gonna push the beds together if you don't," she added, lightheartedly but with a touch of concern still present.
Nonetheless, it brought a smile to my lips and I exhaled sharply through my nose, a sad attempt at a laugh. "Okay."
She squeezed my shoulder in response and then straightened up, offering me a tired smile. "Come on."
"What?"
"You're not goin' back to sleep, clearly, so let's go," she insisted, grabbing my hand and pulling me up.
"Go where?" I asked, though let her lead me out of the garden.
"The lake, duh."
I didn't fight it and let her tug me along, walking down to the lake. It was quiet out, especially between us, and the mindless task of walking through the woods with her hand in mine gave me something else to focus on other than my nightmares.
When we reached the lake, we took a seat at the edge of the dock again, just like last time.
"No midnight swims, please," I warned her playfully, and she laughed quietly.
"I promise," she muttered, before looking out at the water.
My eyes took in her profile for a moment, following the slope of her nose, the point of her cupid's bow, the curve of her lips... even in the dark, with only a minuscule of moonlight casting shadows across her face, she was stunning. I wondered if she knew the effect she could have on me just by being here.
"Thank you," I said, unable to keep my gratitude in for much longer. "For everything."
She rolled her eyes playfully, continuing to look ahead. "Oh, shut up."
I furrowed my brows. "Huh?"
She gave me a disapproving glance. "After all that's happened, you don't need to thank me."
"I do," I said simply, and she rolled her eyes again.
"Seriously, shut up before I make you."
Knowing I wouldn't win this one, I exhaled softly and looked away, eyes subconsciously tracing the shimmers of light in the still water.
"Why did you do it?" Lucy Gray suddenly asked, playfulness gone.
"What?"
She paused. I wasn't sure she'd continue, and then she said, "Volunteer." I opened my mouth to answer, but she cut me off, adding, "And don't say it's because nobody would miss you. You knew that I would have. So, why?"
I pressed my lips together firmly, suddenly feeling warm. It was such an easy question, with an even easier answer. But I couldn't bring myself to say it for the same reason I'd never told her. I was a coward. But didn't she deserve to know the truth? Didn't I deserve to finally come clean? To lift this weight from my shoulders?
My heart was thumping ever so loudly for the girl next to me. I'd faced life or death situations, surely I could do this.
"Y/N?" she prompted, glancing at me.
I licked my lips, gaze focused on the darkness ahead. "I'm in love with you."
The silence was deafening, unlike before when it was welcomed. Not even a gasp or a slight movement from beside me betrayed her reaction, her surprise. I was too paralysed with fear of rejection to look at her. Instead, I stayed put, certain I'd be stuck there in that moment forever, never hearing a response. But then finally:
"I thought that was it. I just had to hear you say it."
My jaw tensed as I digested her words, eyes still fixated on the water. She knew? This whole time, she knew?
"I love you too," she murmured, and in my peripheral, I could see her staring ahead also. "That's why I hated that you did it."
Unable to act cowardly any longer, I forced myself to look to her. She did the same, knocking the breath from me when her dark eyes met mine. It was horribly intimidating, even though she was doing nothing different. Except now she knew. She finally knew. And I knew that she knew. And that was different enough to terrify me.
"Never again," she muttered. "You have to promise me and actually keep it."
And just like that, I was reminded why I'd volunteered in the first place. Coward or not, it was only ever for her.
"I can't," I admitted.
She scrunched her face with hurt. "And why not?"
I grimaced. "I just told you why."
A frown appeared on her lips, jaw clenching in annoyance. Her eyes flickered between mine defiantly, and I knew I was upsetting her again.
"I'm sorry," I said, tilting my head.
"I hate you," she said lowly.
I shook my head, holding her intense gaze. "Not according to what you just said."
Her lips curled inwards, frustrated, and after one last glance, she leaned forward and kissed me hard. My eyes fluttered close as she caressed my cheek, holding me close. I slipped my uninjured arm around her waist, revelling in her warmth and the softness of her lips. It was the best kiss I'd ever had. The only kiss, yes, but one I'd never want to compete with.
When we pulled apart, her hand was still on my cheek, and mine still on her waist, and I worried that if I opened my eyes, something would go wrong. That this would all be a dream.
"You should've told me sooner," she murmured, lips ghosting mine.
I reluctantly opened my eyes, instantly submerged in hers. "Not everyone can speak their mind as confidently as you can, Lucy Gray."
She licked her lips, drawing my gaze to them yet again. "I can't always. Clearly."
I looked down, shaking my head slightly. "I couldn't."
Her thumb stroked my cheek tenderly. "Not even after? When you came home?"
It was hilarious, how easy she made it all sound. I raised an eyebrow at her, trying not to smile. "You don't know how you make me feel, do you?" Her expression softened, and I continued, "Imagine standing on the edge of a cliff. Then jumping off."
"Scared?" she asked, growing worried, but I shook my head.
"Free," I corrected, growing warm at my honesty, it coming way too easily for once. "And that in itself is scary, isn't it? But scary in a good way. I– I've never felt like that before."
She exhaled softly, a small smile tugging at her lips. "You're not so bad at speaking your mind, it seems."
I breathed out through my nose, mirroring her smile. Her thumb outlined my lips lightly, tracing my scar, and then resting on my cheek again. She was thoughtful, eyes staring at my face, but distant.
"That feeling you described," she started, voice smooth and comforting, "it goes both ways."
I wondered how it could. I'd never imagined myself giving her a similar comfort, nor her feeling so strongly about me as I did with her. But then she kissed me again, and I didn't need to think about it anymore.

god, okay. fuck. i hate to say that i really underatand where simon's coming from, like, with his misunderstanding of betty and their relationship. because, well, autism. he's obviously used to being alone and people thinking he's stupid and weird, and is just very passive in his approach to other people in general. i know that feeling. it's a barrier you build around yourself to get through a world that refuses to understand you, and by this point you're so used to getting burned from making social missteps that you eventually stop trying to vocalize your own feelings and desires, so you're perpetually waiting for the other person to make the first move so you can follow:
'this cool girl i met has read my work and is really into it, she's so smart and even sees things in it that i missed! and she really wants to come with me on this next expedition? oh wow, okay, great! i mean, she's so excited about it she basically dropped her own plans and invited herself along, so this is clearly something she really wants to do! who would i be to deny her that?'
Tumblr media
'and wow is she ever great! on our expedition together she always knows how to handle obstacles, she doesn't even need my help! i really should be following her lead, she really knows what she's doing so much better than me! i'm so glad she wanted to be here and help me!'
Tumblr media
'i can't believe we found the enchiridion together! but she doesn't want to come along with me and take credit for its discovery? even though she helped me out so much and is so incredible and i really really like her- wait!! i shouldn't say that last part!! that would be really weird!! i don't want to make things weird!! she had a good time, and since all of this was her choice i won't try to stop her or make her feel bad or do something she doesn't want to. best to keep it professional.'
Tumblr media
'oh hey! she left a note for me in that book i was going to check out, god she's so funny-wait. oh my god, SHE thinks we had something special too??! she says she's going on that trip, but she wishes she could travel the world with me??! she even gave me her address so i can come find her??! okay, mesage received, I GOTTA GO TALK TO HER!!!'
Tumblr media
'uh oh, i don't know what to say to her, i obviously said the wrong thing just now and she thinks i don't feel the same way. i know she feels embarassed about the letter. i'll tell her letter was great!! it was incredible!! i want her to know that i want exactly what she wants, and that i feel the same way about her, i'll even say it to her the same way she did!!'
Tumblr media
all i'm saying is... from somebody of This specific perspective, i can totally see why he didn't question her not getting on the bus, dropping everything to come with him, and all of her other desicions she made in ooo:
'okay i'm FINALLY going to apologize to betty for how the crown made me scare her away 1000 years ago! wait, hang on, she seems really confused that i'm saying goodbye to her?'
Tumblr media
'oh no, we're running out of time but she feels really bad about the fact that she left me!! no, it's okay!! i want you to know that love you, and i forgive you for leaving me!! please don't feel bad about it!!'
Tumblr media
to him, betty is unquestionably strong, competent, capable, and confident in everything she does. if she didn't want to do something she simply wouldn't do it, much the same way that he knows she would move heaven and earth if she wanted to make something happen; and who would he be if he didn't give her the chance to let her try? he simply doesn't PERCIEVE her to be insecure, overly self sacrificing, and in need of him to be a lot less passive about her choices, the way that someone from the outside looking in obviously can.

sneakin' around - rafe cameron
SUMMARY: you and rafe have been seeing each other for months now, without telling anyone because of your doubts about how your friends will react. one night, at a party, you and rafe sneak off to be alone.
WORD COUNT: 1.7k
WARNINGS: none
A/N: check out my most recent rafe fic
you ran your hand through rafe's hair mindlessly, listening to the sound of his slow and steady breath. his arms were wrapped tightly around your waist, but he was still sound asleep.
you looked at your watch, sighing when you saw the time. it was almost 10 am, and kie would be expecting you at the boat soon.
"rafe?" you said softly, wanting to wake him up to say goodbye. "baby?" you tried again, this time placing a kiss on his forehead.
his eyes slowly opened and a grin appeared on his face. "morning," he said in the raspy morning voice you adored oh so much, and he lifted his head a little to press his lips to yours.
you smiled into the kiss, groaning when you had to pull away. "i have to go," you said with a frown, getting up from the bed you'd been sharing with rafe for months now.
rafe grabbed your hand, "please don't go," he said sadly.
"we can meet up later tonight, i promise. but kie is going to get suspicious if i don't meet her soon."
rafe rolled his eyes, pulling you closer, "come on baby, who cares if kie is suspicious. let's just tell them. i hate sneaking around like this."
you tilted your head at him, seeing that he was serious. "but we agreed that we shouldn't tell anyone. i mean the pogues aren't exactly your biggest fan, and the kooks aren't mine. it would just hurt both of us if our closest friends didn't approve of our relationship, you know that."
rafe sighed and sat up on the bed, putting his legs over the side. he grabbed your hands and you stood between his legs. he looked up at you, "i know. it just sucks that i can't just see you whenever i want. you make me happy, y/n."
your heart just melted at the look on his face. you put your hands on both sides of his face, kissing his forehead, then his lips. "you make me happy too, rafe. we'll talk about maybe sitting everyone down and telling them? eventually."
he smiled and nodded, "i'll see you later then?"
you nodded and pressed one last short kiss to his lips. you grabbed bikini and a pair of shorts from the drawer of your clothes you had at rafe's house and went to change in the bathroom.
you spent the rest of the day with kie and jj, who decided to tag along on the boat with you. by the time we got back, jj and kie were totally drunk, and you were just a little tipsy.
"i'm gonna go change guys, then we're going to that bonfire tonight right?" you asked when you got off of the boat.
kie nodded, "yeah, we'll see you there. everyone's going."
you texted rafe when you got back to your house, meet up at bonfire tonight?
you sorted through your clothes, trying to find an outfit while you waited for a response. you decided on what you always wore to parties, jean shorts and a cropped tank top.
your phone buzzed in your back pocket.
of course. can't wait :)
you smiled at the text, and tossed your phone on the bed. you spent the next 2 hours wasting time until it was time to leave for the beach.
these parties were your favorites, the ones where both kooks and pogues were able to be in the same place without fighting, because everyone was having too much fun to care.
you immediately saw your friends when you arrived. john b was standing on a log, pouring beer into jj's mouth. you scoffed at the scene, not surprised in the slightest.
you walked toward the group, but was stopped by someone stepping directly in front of you. rafe. he backed you up until you were both out of sight, behind a tree. "i missed you," rafe said with a smile.
"rafe, honey it's barely been 10 hours," you said with a laugh, "but i missed you too."
rafe wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you closer to press his lips against yours. you threw your arms around his neck as your kiss continued. you pulled away before the kiss got too heated, and rested your forehead on his. "we can continue this later. i just have to make an appearance with jj, pope, kie and john b for an hour and then i can get away, okay?"
rafe nodded, "okay," he said softly, pecking your lips again. "i'll see you in an hour."
you squeezed his hand once and then returned on your path to your group of friends. "y/n!!" a voice you recognized said and you screamed when someone picked you up from behind, spinning you around.
"jj, put me down," you smacked his arm and leaned your head back with a laugh.
he let you down onto the sand, and he was hunched over, laughing uncontrollably, obviously drunk. you smacked him on the head, "idiot."
kie handed you a beer, and you all sat around one of the small fires. you weren't really engaged in most of the conversations, because all you wanted to do was sneak away and be with rafe. of course you weren't proud of not wanting to be with your friends, but you didn't get much alone time with rafe because of your friends.
the minute all of them got up to get more beer and cigarettes, you got up and texted rafe to meet you by the docks outside of john b's place. you figured you could hang out there for a little bit, knowing they'd be out until 2 in the morning.
you sat on the dock for only a couple minutes before you saw rafe running toward you. you stood up and pulled him in by his shirt the minute he got into your reach. your lips crashed together, in a hungry, passionate kiss. his hands found your bare waist, pulling you impossibly closer.
you pulled back to come up for air, breathing heavily, "we can go into john b's place. they'll be out late."
he hummed in response, kissing you again. you grabbed his hand, practically sprinting to the chateau.
you wasted no time once you got in the door, pulling his shirt over his head. he placed his hands on your hips, pushing you back until you hit the couch, falling onto it.
back at the beach, kie was looking everywhere for you, and when she didn't find you she'd started to worry.
"jj, i can't find y/n. have you seen her?"
the blonde shook his head, and looked around the beach, not having any luck locating you. "maybe she decided to go home. she seemed kind of tired."
kie sighed, "yeah maybe. she's actually been acting really weird lately. i'm starting to get worried. but i don't think she would just leave without telling anyone."
jj nodded in agreement, "well let's go get john b and pope and we'll look for her."
rafe moved your hair out of your face and off of your neck, giving him room to place sloppy kisses from your collarbone to your neck. your hands traveled down his chest and played with the button of his shorts. his lips found yours again, this kiss much more desperate than the last.
the moment you unbuttoned his shorts, you heard the slam of the door, and the gasp of four people, who you were pretty sure you knew the identities of.
rafe jumped off of you, standing in front of the four, very shocked pogues. you got off of the couch and stepped toward them. "guys, let me explain-"
"a kook? y/n!! really?" jj shouted and stepped toward rafe, an angry look on his face.
you placed yourself between them, putting your hand out to push jj's chest. "stop it. i said let me explain," you said with enough seriousness in your voice to make them all close their mouths and give you their attention.
you moved back so that you were standing by rafe. "we're dating," you said simply, and open your mouth to continue but was cut off, unsurprisingly.
"what?!" they all shouted, looking at each other.
"you've got to be kidding. do you have any idea what the kooks have put us through?" john b decided to contribute to the not so civil conversation.
rafe looked at the floor.
"john b, i know. believe me. i know what rafe and topper used to do to you guys, to me too. but rafe hasn't done anything to a pogue in a long time, haven't you noticed that? do you really think i would date someone that i thought would hurt my closest friends? my family?" you said with determination, determination to make them see rafe the way that you do. they all remained silent, so you continued. "rafe has changed, a lot. and he's the only guy that i've ever been with that really cares about me. that looks after me, no matter what. i'm just asking you guys to, please, just be open to the idea of us being together. because i can't have my boyfriend and my best friends hating each other, especially if you don't even give him a chance. please, guys."
"okay," kie was the first to speak up. "if you really care about him, of course we'll give him a chance, right guys?" she glared at the 3 boys who were all staring at rafe as if they were determining their decision. all three of them nodded slowly, eventually.
rafe looked at you with a smile, "guys, i just wanna say that i know how bad me, topper and kelce treated you. and i really am sorry. once i met y/n, i haven't cared about the whole pogue vs kook thing, because if i can fall in love with one then-"
you turned to face him, "what?" you said, eyes widened. "what did you just say?"
everyone stared at the two of you in pure shock, and honestly what could only be described as admiration.
rafe took a deep breath, grabbing both of your hands. "i love you, y/n y/l/n."
"i love you too, rafe cameron," you said with the biggest grin on your face.

Not good at saying goodbyes.
Part 3/4 - previous - next
Lena x childhood bestfriend!reader
Tumblr media
──✩₊⁺⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧──
Today you got ready like any other day. Had breakfast, got into the car and drove to work.
What you weren't expecting, walking
in was to see Lena's mother there.
When she saw you, her eyes were full of sparkles.
"Y/N! I can't believe this! You're all grown up!" quickly giving you a tight hug you had missed very much. "You're so beautiful. You look just like your mom. How is she? How are you?"
"I'm good, she's doing well, she's planning on retiring and moving back here."
"It's so good to see you. Can't believe Lena didn't tell me you were here."
"I can."
And she quickly looked for her daughter, who had opted for walking away, minutes prior.
"You meant no harm. I know it, sweetheart. And now that you're here, she'll come to terms eventually.
She still celebrated your birthday every year. And hung up your Christmas stocking, oh and she still hasn't watched that movie you had made plans to see together."
"I kept a full diary of the first two years after I moved, so she could catch up, when we were reunited. And watched as many of her games as I could fit in my schedule. Also, I kept the big bear she won me, at the fair we would aways go to."
"Everything is going to end up in the right place. I'm leaving, but just in case, let me give you my number."
"Thanks, it's so good seeing you again."
"You too honey, you have no idea. Have a good day at training, and if you see my daughter, let her know I went home and that I don't appreciate her walking away."
"Of course."
She was just like you remembered. And for a second it made you feel like you went back in time, when you'd aways pass on her messages to Lena when she tried running away from trouble.
You made your way to the locker room but most girls were already at the gym.
"Obi, your-"
"Lena." she harshly said.
"Everyone around here calls you Obi, I'm the one who came up with it!"
"Well you lost the right to it, when you betrayed me!"
"I didn't betray you! I was a kid! Who didn't know what she was doing!"
"You hurt me!"
"I was hurting too! And I thought the best way to protect you, was not saying goodbye."
"Now it doesn't matter why you did it! I can't go back in time, and tell the younger version of myself that! I can't tell her that everything was just a misunderstanding. I can't unbreak her heart!"
"If I could go back in time and change everything, I would. I swear. And I'm sorry that's all I can give you."
"Yeah."
What was that even supposed to mean? 'Yeah'?
In truth Lena didn't know either. She didn't know what say. She only knew how she felt and that was, confused.
"As I was going to say in the first place, your mom went home and you are in trouble."
"For what?"
"Leaving while we were talking."
"She can't be serious! You did it first! And I'm the one in the wrong?"
You only gave her a sad look as she walked out of the room. It was like you were eight again, and getting in trouble for doing whatever the other was doing.
──✩₊⁺⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧──
You tried your best giving her some space after that. After all you had nothing else to say to each other. She had bursted out her feelings and you had apologized. And you had been trying to accept the reality. You were far from doing good, but you decided to put her feelings first. Being respectful, to her wish to not be in touch with you.
"Hey Y/N! We're going out tonight, please come with us." Said Georgia.
"Sorry, I can't. I have some plans I can't bail on."
"No you don't!" said Giulia. "Stop saying that, just so we leave you off the hook, for not showing up at our get togethers."
At this point Stanway had went her own way.
"You can't keep doing this. You're isolating yourself from the team. This has got to be affecting your mental health, the girls are worried."
"No they are not. They think I'm busy because of a relationship."
"Only Syd thinks that. And I know the truth. Please reconsider it?"
"Okay, I'll text you if I change my mind."
──✩₊⁺⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧──
You didn't. Of course you didn't. And that had been the last drop, for her and some of your teammates. After a long talk through the weekend, they had decided on keeping to themselves. To not make things worse.
But Giulia could not hold back when you walked into training, Monday morning, with deeper under-eye bags, and a emotionless look in your face.
You were tired. Tired of crying. Tired of isolating, and only talking to your parents, through a phone. Tired of blaming yourself constantly.
As you left to the field, they all shared a look. Even Lena. You seemed to be doing okay... until stoped pretending you were.
"Don't act surprised! Your the one doing this to her!"
She said looking Obi dead in the eye, and going after you.
"Y/N! Wait up. We can warm up together."
"Is that an excuse for another lecture?"
"No. But you can vent out if you want to."
"There's nothing much to say... Except that leaving Barça was probably a mistake."
"I'm sorry you feel that way."
"Thank you, for trying to include me the best you can, and for taking care of me. You and the girls are great."
"I wish you gave yourself a chance, to be happy here."
──✩₊⁺⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧──
"Give her a chance!" said Lea trying to get it through her friends mind. They had stayed back inside.
"She did worse to me!"
"You're taking this to far! She made a mistake and apologized. And I think not having her best friend for the last 15 years, was punishment enough."
"But-"
"No buts. What she did was wrong. But she was a kid and she thought she was doing the right thing.
You're an adult, and you know you are doing the wrong thing! It's not the same."
"What am I supposed to do?"
"Do you think your younger self would approve of this? Of anyone treating her this way? Because the Lena I know, would never treat someone like this. Especially someone she loves."
──✩₊⁺⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧──
"You still care a lot about her huh?"
"I love her and I don't think anything can change that. I promised myself to never leave her again."
"Just don't break your own heart, to keep that promise."
"I don't think a heart can be broken twice. But I'll try my best not to push everyone away."
"That's a good start. You need to feel better for the match this week. Frankfurt is a little harder to beat."
It felt good having someone to talk to again. And you knew you could only blame yourself for the loneliness you had been in. And she was right, you had to give yourself a chance, with or without Lena. Although that isn't how you ever planned your life to go.

Vodka Sodas| J.B
Warnings: Drunk Joe. Some cussing. Fluffy. Kissing. Break ups. Just something short, fun and silly since I haven't updated OIFL this week.
Tumblr media
NOT MY GIF
The club you were in was booming with loud music and crowded with people. Thankfully, courtesy to your good friend Joe, you were able to sit in VIP. "I don't think I've ever seen Joe this drunk before..." Your friend Lana says over the loud music. You look over to Joe who was taking another shot with his friends and doing his famous finger gun dance. Poor guy had the rhythm of a tree branch. "I think he's going through something." You shrug. "Well one of the guys just told me he claimed he was a single man, so maybe that." Lana says. You wondered if that was true, Joe hadn't said anything about breaking up with his long term girlfriend Chelsea but that would explain why he's even out at a club in the first place and invited all his friends and she's no where to be seen.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom, do you need to go?" You ask Lana over the music. "No, I can go with you though!" She says. "That's okay, it's right there!" You shake your head pointing at where the bathrooms were which were fairly close to the vip sections. She holds your drink and  make your way past everyone to the bathroom when you feel a hand tug on your arm. You turn to see Joe. "You're leaving?!" He asks looking shocked and you laugh. "Bathroom!!" You say back. "I'll go with you." He says and you just nod. He followed you through the crowd of people holding onto your hip which you didn't really mind but felt a bit weird about it only because you weren't sure about if him being single was true and you two were just friends. You two make it to the bathrooms going your separate ways and once you were done and came Bach out Joe was leaning against the wall waiting for you. "You didn't have to wait." You chuckle at him. "People are weird, better than safe than sorry." He shrugs. His eyes hanging low, signaling that he was very inebriated. "You doing okay? You're not much of a club or drink person especially when there's nothing to celebrate." You ask him before hearing back out to the hundreds of people and loud music. "Yeah, just wanted to hang out with everyone.! Was tired of being home all the time." He says grabbing your hand and taking you back to the VIP section. "Take a shot with me!" Joe says over the loud music and you agree. He hands you what you were assuming was tequila and did a quick cheers before throwing the strong liquid down your throat.
The night continues on like that, you end up stopping at one point but Joe sort of just kept going. Even the guys had tapped out. We shut the club down and Joe was tremendously inebriated. Running into people as he left the club and getting agitated as if it wasn't his fault. "Hush! C'mon the car is over here!" You tell Joe as he snapped at some stranger that he ran into. Everyone left in their own cars, saying goodbye. "You think he's gonna be able to make it home alone okay?" His friend and teammate Tee asks me as he helps me get Joe in the SUV. "Uh, I might just take him to mine, he's to drunk to be left alone." You say to him. "You sure?" He asks. "Yeah, I got it." You nod. "Bye girl, good luck and lay him on his side!" Lana says hugging me. "Aye man, Y/N here is gonna take you to her place, listen to her!" Tee says to Joe who was completely blasted. "We're having a sleepover?!" Joe says excitedly to you and you snort. "Have fun with that." Tee says as you get into the car next to Joe and Tee closes the door waving at you too.
"Where to miss?" The driver asks. "Another club!! I'm ready for another Vodka Soda!" Joe says rather loudly and you shush him. "I'm so sorry about my friend here." You say to the driver who was chuckling. "Psh, I'm not." Joe says and you roll your eyes at him. You give the driver your address and he starts to drive. "Where are we going?" Joe asks looking over at you as you text Lana about how drunk Joe was. "My house." You say and he gasp. "So we are having a sleepover, nice!" He says grinning, his eyes crinkling. "Do you even have your house keys on you?" You ask him and he starts patting his pockets. "Oops, guess I'm fucked!" Joe giggles and you shake your head. "That's something we'll deal with when you're not drunk." You sigh. "I'm not drunk, I'm tipsy" Joe argues back all defensive. "Whatever you sat just chill out until we get home." You say to him and he sighs. "You chill out." He says under his breath mimicking you like a child. This was going to be a long night.
***************************
"Okay, nope! Over here!" You say as you pull Joe away from the wrong front door. After an annoying car ride of Joe asking the poor driver a million questions about being a driver for a living you finally made it to your town home. "How do you even know which door is yours?!" Joe asks looking around at the other homes. "Well for starters, I'm not drunk- I'm tipsy!" Joe says back and you sigh opening the door. and leading him inside where he proceeded to lose his balance and knock down your coat hanger. 'Shit, my bad." Joe says trying to pick it up. 'That's okay, I'll get it later. Let's get you on the couch." You say helping him towards the couch. He completely let's himself fall on the couch and you go over to to kitchen to get him water. "Wait! Where'd you go?" JOe sits up looking around for you. "I'm getting you another drink." You say. "Awesome, one vodka soda. You know how I like it." He say laying back down and you chuckle. You had never seen this man this wasted before. He went just a bit too hard tonight. You get him some lemon water to mask the fact that it was indeed not a vodka soda.
"Here, come on chug it! I know you can do it!" You say to Joe who was half asleep on the couch. he sits up and smiles at you a toothy grin. His eyes sitting low and his face red. Joe listens to you and stops mid way. "This doesn't taste like a vodka soda." He shakes his head. "That's cause you have drunk tongue, there's more vodka in there than anything." You lie. "Oh." Joe says before he finishes the drink and hands it back to you. "I knew you could do it!" You smile taking the cup. "I'm Joey B, never underestimate me." He says making you laugh. "Alright... well Joey B it's time for bed." You say to him and he looks at you confused. "Nah, too early." He shakes his head. "It's almost 3AM sir, I'm tired and you look tired too." You say to him and he huffs. "Fiiiine, you're such a grandma." He says getting up from the couch and wobbling to the side a bit. "C'mon, follow me." You say grabbing his arm again and pulling him to the guest room.
You turn the light on and walk him over to the bed where he lays down on his back with a smirk on his face. "Can you help me take my pants off?" Joe asks, his voice raspy all of a sudden. "I'm sure you can take care of that yourself." You laugh. "Please, I can't sleep in jeans and my arms feel heavy." He whines like a child and you roll your eyes. " I'll pull, you push them off." You say grabbing his ankle about to take his sock off. "No! The socks stay on." Joe says and you look at him confused. "Anything else King Joseph? Jeez!" You scoff pulling the ends of his skinny jeans off as he shimmy's out of them. "Dude, you gotta let the skinny jeans go. It's 2023!" You laugh taking one leg out. "Absolutely not, I've been told my ass looks great in them. I can't take that away from the people." he says as he lays on his side and you take off his jeans and throw them on the chair that was in the room. "What people?" You laugh. "My fans! The people! They call me thick with three C's as a matter of fact!" Joe says as he starts to doze of. "If you say so, goodnight Joe." You shake your head giving him one last look and shutting the lights off and leaving the door ajar and hearing his snores.  You make sure the front door is locked and set the alarm before finding Joe's phone on the floor in the living room. You leave his phone on the kitchen counter and shut all the lights off before heading to your bedroom where you finally undress and take a nice shower. After your shower you get into bed and immediately doze off exhausted from tonight's events.
*****************************
At around 5am you heard a noise that woke you up. Looking at your bedroom door still half asleep you see it open and it reveals a still half asleep, half drunk Joe. "Joe? Everything okay? Did you need the bathroom?" You sit up turning the lights next to your bed on. He shakes his head no. He was out of shirt now and only in his underwear and socks. "Did you throw up?" You ask sitting up and he shakes his head no. He resembled a child right now. "What's wrong?" You ask. "Didn't wanna sleep alone." He says lowly. It kind of broke your heart hearing that. He was definitely going through something. "Hop in." You say throwing your comforter to the side and patting the empty space next to you. Without hesitation Joe get's in and pulls the cover up to his chin, looking up at you and giving you a small smile. He looked adorable. This over 6 foot tall muscular man who got ran into by other huge men for a living was an actual cupcake. You turn the lights back off and get back into bed.
 After a moment of silence you speak up. "Are you okay?" You ask Joe as you two lay in complete darkness. "Not really, Chelsea dumped me." Joe says. "I'm sorry... that must be really tough. I knew how much you liked her." You say. "I was the one that fucked up." Joe says. "Oh?" You say confused. "I confessed to her that I had feelings for someone else one night. I couldn't take pretending she was the one for me." Joe says. "Then why the heavy drinking tonight? Guilt?" You ask. "No...I know the girl I like doesn't like me back." He says sounding sad. "Have you talked to her?" You ask. "Nope. I just know." He says and you turn to him seeing his silhouette thanks to the moonlight coming into the room from outside. "Is she in a relationship?" I ask. "Not that I know of, if she is...her boyfriend would probably be really mad right now that she's laying in bed with her guy friend." Joe says and you felt your heart sink hearing that. "Joe- Don't. I can't take you rejecting me right now, I'm still drunk." He says and you can't help but snort. "I'm not rejecting you. I just don't understand why you would get this drunk over me? You were a drink away from blacking out." You shake your head. "I thought that liquid courage would help with confessing my feelings and then I started to convince myself halfway through that you could do better than me. You looked so perfect tonight, I was just going to embarrass myself." Joe says. "Well, you're wrong and I might have feelings for you too." You say biting your lip nervous of what was currently happening. "Don't say that just to make me feel better. Y/N" Joe says. "I'm not, when have I ever lied to you?" You ask. "That vodka soda." Joe says making you laugh. "Okay... other than trying to prevent you from having alcohol poisoning. Why wouldn't I like you? You've been nothing but the sweetest guy ever to me since the first day I met you, you're funny, you're smart, you care about others, you're true to yourself andddd... you're incredibly good looking." You say hearing him chuckle.
"So... what now?" Joe asks. "Well, we should get some sleep but we can figure things out in the morning if your hangover isn't too bad." You giggle. "I hope you have Gatorade." Joe says wrapping his arm around you. "I don't, but I'll get you some in the morning while you're sleeping in." You say running your fingers through his hair as he settles his head on the crook of your neck. "You smell good." He mutters into your neck. "And you smell like a bar." You say both of you laughing. Joe then leans in for a sweet kiss, ignoring the fact that he smelled like liquor. "You lost your house keys by the way." You say once pulling apart and now that he was a bit sober. Joe groans in annoyance letting his head lie back down where it was, letting sleep take over the both of you.

Heey, for Colby's request, can u write an imagine about y/n being in her slut era and also include Brad and Dylan? Like she's an actress or a singer and has been hoeing around, but Colby starts getting feelings for her and gets angry at her for being with other men?
Unholy
Tumblr media
I had too much fun with this one
Colby smut
Dylan moves his hand on my leg, moving it from my knee to my ankle. My legs are on his lap, while I'm seated next to him. I run my hand through his hair to steal his attention from his convention with a friend to me. He faces me and looks directly at my lips, before his sleepy eyes meet mine. I lean in and peck Dylan's lips.
"What's that, y/n? Are you a second grader?", he mocks me so i get up from my seat and take his hand, pulling him towards a dark hallway where we can be alone from all the people in the club. Dylan presses me onto the wall, his big hands falling on my hips, pinning me flat, as his lips kiss my exposed chest. The low cut of the dress gives him enough access to leave bruises and his mouth travels to my neck, up my jaw and finally to my lips. I grab him by the waist, pulling him closer to me, feeling his boner pressed on my area, making me crave more of him by the second. I bite his lip and pull at it, earning a smirk from him. Dylan grabs me from behind the neck with one hand and presses our lips back together harder, the kiss getting even more heated, our gasps filling the echo of the hallway.
"Let's go to your place", i say while kissing down his neck, my hand traveling down his abs, to the belt of his jeans, slowly unbuckling it. He let's out a loud breath as my hands slowly unbutton his pants.
"Mhm, let's go babe", Dylan grabs my hand and puts his t-shirt over the unbuttoned jeans. We hurry through the crowd of people, but i trip and hit someone, causing a drink to spill.
"For fuck's sake, I've just gotten those", the man shakes his head looking at the broken glass and spilled whisky.
"Colby?", i ask surprised
"Oh, y/n, what the fuck are you doing here?", he laughs and we hug.
"Oh, I'm here with Dylan. You know i told you we were going to hang out soon", i smile and grab Dylan's hand to come greet Colby.
"You mean bang soon", Colby greets Dylan and they hug, tapping on each other's backs
"Is there a problem with that?", Dylan asks and Colby shakes his head.
"I don't see why there would be any problem with that. I'm happy my friend is living her life finally.", from what's recognizable because of the darkness and few neon lights, Colby fake smiles at the both of us.
"Hey, stop it, you know each other for a long time now, no need for this type of discussion", i tell them and put a hand on Dylan's chest, which he takes and kisses the back of my hand, looking deep into my eyes
"True, I'm waiting in the car, baby. Don't take too long tho", Dylan waves goodbye to Colby and manages to come out with half a smile, while Colby just waves and puts his hands into his jean pockets.
"Baby? What's that?", he asks me and i just roll my eyes at him, smiling
"Can't we use cute nicknames even if we're not dating?"
"Whatever. Haven't seen you in a while. How's the album going?", he changes the subject and I'm glad he does it
"Almost done. I know i haven't been around much but i was also a lot in the studio -"
"With Brad yeah", he cuts me off and crosses his arms at his chest, looking somewhere behind me. I roll my eyes.
"How come it is ok for you to fuck around but it is not when i do it? I'm finally single after a long time and i really want to enjoy myself. You didn't seem to complain when you were fucking me"
Colby looks me dead in the eyes and let's out a tired sigh. He raises his hands in defense and takes a small step back, as much as the people behind him allow him to.
"You're right, i really enjoyed it and it's not fair for me to judge that,I'm sorry. I just miss you."
"i miss you too, Colby, but I've been busy, you saw that as well. Putting aside my sex life, thank you, which I'm sorry you haven't been a part of in the past 2 weeks. You just weren't around", i shrug my shoulders. "How about you come by the studio tomorrow? At 2pm?"
He let's out a sigh and looks again somewhere behind me. "Brad's there, right?", i nod
"We produce my songs together. He's part of my team of songwriters and he also produces a few of my songs. So yeah, he is there."
"Ugh, fine, just because i really want to spend some time with my friend too, not just Dylan and Brad.", he rolls his eyes but he giggles. We hug and wave him goodbye, before managing to leave the club.
~~~
I hold Brad from behind the shoulders, my chin resting on top of his head as he replays the song I've just recorded. We vibe to the slow song and i kiss his cheek when a cheesy lyric comes on.
"I know i inspired you to write this song, you have to admit it at some point", he looks up at me and i peck his lips.
"Maybe, in like... 50 years?", i walk around the chair and sit on his lap, moving a curl from his forehead. "When you won't remember me anymore", i joke and cup his face to kiss him, both smiling into the kiss, as his hands grabbed my ass and positioned me better on him.
"Hmm, I'll give you like one more minute", he leans in and deepens the kiss, my hips rocking into his. We left quiet moans and stop all of a sudden when we hear a knock on the door. Brad falls back on the back of the chair and i get up from him to go open the door. I see Colby standing in front of it with a bag of McDonald's and a big, wide grin on his face.
"Thought you guys were hungry, so i decided to bring you some food", he greets Brad and gives me a hug, making sure he pecks my lips one time. For a second I'm shocked that this happened, but Colby was the first one I've kissed once i was single and he was the one that made me want to explore this side of me. I've always seen Colby at parties with other girls, leaving with them and then coming later that night back home or even in the morning. We've been friends for a lifetime and it was very hard when i got into a relationship to keep up with the constant fights with my boyfriend because i was living with Sam and Colby. Tho Kat moved in, and I've had my own room always, it didn't make a difference. I offered to move in with my boyfriend into an apartment, but he also didn't want that because he didn't want to settle with me. So we came to an end a few months later, months that felt like agonising years of constant yelling and no relaxation whatsoever. When we broke up, i got home and expected to stay in bed, demoralised and feeling bad of that happened, but instead, Colby and i found ourselves in a heated make out session after a few "celebration" shots. We quickly found the way up to his room and whenever we had time or were alone, we would have fun together wherever possible. Of course, none of us ever mentioned the idea of a relationship, because both of us seem haooy with what we have. He kept on seeing other girls and well, even if they're a different from time to time, mine happen to only be Brad and Dylan, which have also been really old friends of mine.
"Thanks, mate, i didn't even realise what time it is", Brad takes a sandwich and i take another one, sitting next to Colby on the couch. We talk and we laugh and i look at Colby who seems very different from last night, when he didn't like the idea of me having Brad around. He smiles, jokes around and actually has a conversation with him. I take another bite from my sandwich and Colby puts his arm around my waist, pulling me on his side. I look at him and he brushes his nose over mine, kissing my temple.
"Well you're in your feelings today", i say and put the food away to drink some water
"Not true", he lies and we're very aware of that.
"I'm gonna go make a phone call real quick and also give you some space. I'll be back", Brad winks at me and leaves the room. I get back on the couch and sit on the side so i can look at Colby. He looks back at me and his smile slowly fades away.
"Come here", he puts a hand on my cheek and brings me closer to his face, kissing me passionately. I grant him access immediately and his soft tongue brushes over mine slowly, none of us hurrying the moment. I lean backwards and i pull him by his t-shirt, getting him on top of me. Colby rocks his hips into mine and i moan and the pleasurable friction between us.
"Gosh, how i missed this", i whisper, unable to speak out loud. He groans in response and takes off his t-shirt, while i trace his abs and tattoos. I bite my lip, flashbacks of previous rounds of sex coming in my mind and i grow eager to receive more from him. He unbuttons my jeans and takes them off along with my underwear, throwing them away in the room. His eyes scan my bare bottom half and his eyes turn dark with lust. Colby licks his lips and comes down between my legs, licking a few lazy stripes on my core, collecting my arousal and building up my pleasure. He flicks his tongue over my clit at a steady pace, making my legs spasm every once in a while when he reaches a very sensitive spot. He smirks and grabs my thighs firmly, keeping them in place while nibbling at my clit a few more times.
Colby takes off his jeans and reaches for the condom in his wallet, rolling it on his length, getting between my legs and slowly slipping his dick inside me. We both gasp as it goes deeper and deeper, a moan escaping my lips when he's fully in, already touching a the right spots. He starts thrusting in me and a slow speed, adjusting to my tightness and making sure he doesn't hurt me.
"Fuck, y/n, oh my God, you're incredible", he whispers in m my ear as he hovers over me and puts one of my legs around his waist. I scratch his back and try to muffle my moans into his shoulder, biting it. Colby thrusts harder, the skin slapping noise turning us on even more. He cups my breasts and kisses them, licking my nipples and sucking every now and then on the sensitive skin. "You're so fucking mine", he groans as my lips find his, my hands in his hair and pulling at it, while his hands pinned my hips down as his thrusts get faster.
"Fuck, Colby, just like that", i lean my head back, his lips attacking my neck and focusing on the sweet spots.
"I'm so close", he buries his head in the crook of my neck and i nod, putting my other leg on his waist too.
"Me too", i say and he grabs the armrest of the couch and starts pounding into me, hitting my g-spot until my legs shake uncontrollably as my orgasm hits me like a wave.
"oh fuck", he bites my shoulder to cover as much as possible his loud moan as he bursts inside the condom. Colby gets up and slowly exits me, taking the condom off and wrapping it in some empty food package. We get dressed and i motion him to come back next to me. I hug him and remain like that for a few moments.
"Oh how i wish we would take our usual aftersex nap", i chuckle and he does the same.
"We can, let's go home", he offers.
"I still have work to get done", i motion my head towards the laptop with the list of songs I have to record.
"By the way, where's Brad? Wasn't he supposed to be back?", Colby asks and gets up from the couch. I frown.
"He knows we're fucking, he just gives us some free time.", i shrug my shoulders. "It felt so good, i missed our sex", i give him a tired smile.
"Then let's do it more. Y/N, i hate the fact that you have sex with them too. You have no idea how bad it pisses me off", Colby throws his hands around
"What? You can't say that, you do the same thing, with more girls may i add"
"Because i knew you weren't going to settle for me once you got single again."
I open my mouth but don't say anything. He is pretty much right. I didn't need another relationship right away.
"I just can't stand the thought of anyone finishing you and touching you and having you moan underneath them", Colby comes back to the couch and zones out
"I'm sorry i didn't know about what you've been feeling. You should've told me.", i grab his hand in mine.
"Can you please, at least consider, dropping out of your slut era?"
"I've been out of my slut era since you called me yours ten minutes ago. There was no going back afterwards."
"Oh shit, i did say that.", Colby laughs and i lean in to kiss him. He kisses me back and then kisses my forehead, pulling me into a tight hug. "Finally. I'm so stupid for not owning up to my feelings"
"No, you're not, just don't own up to your feelings with anyone else please", we both laugh and we hear the door open. Brad grins at us and sits back in his chair.
"Ready for round two?", i walk towards the recording booth and turn around to Colby
"Always", i wink at him and he laughs. I shake my head and put on my headphones.
I Wish I Hated You (Levi Ackerman x Reader)
Tumblr media
summary: You don't do second chances. Especially after you gave your heart to Levi Ackerman, and he decided to throw it away so the next person has to repair the damage. Will Levi put his ego aside and finally admit his feelings for you are far deeper than you imagined? Or is a second chance out of the question?
warnings: eventual smut, this is a slow burn
ao3
C H A P T E R T H R E E: K E Y
You look around your entire apartment to see if Levi left the spare key you gave him.
Nothing.
You sigh and admit defeat as you sip on your coffee which was made perfectly made.
The bagel is warm so it couldn't have been long since Levi stopped by. Reluctantly, you take a bite of the bagel your ex boyfriend brought you. This too is perfectly made.
"He must've gotten these from the shop by his house." You say to yourself as you scroll through your phone, trying to kill time. You find Hange's name and text her to pick you up to bring you to your car.
Hange: Don't you have your car back already?
You: Um no... I woke up 15 minutes ago.
Hange: I helped Levi bring it to your house like 45 minutes ago. I thought you knew.
You move your curtain out of the way and see your car perfectly parked in your assigned spot. It looks like he got it washed, too.
You're fuming. Who does this man think he is?
You: I need you to give me my key back.
Levi: Why don't you start the conversation off with 'Thank you Levi for getting my car for me, getting it washed, and grabbing me breakfast'.
You: I don't need to be nice to you. Give me my key back.
Levi: Ok but I made copies.
Of fucking course he did.
You: What is your deal? We're not together anymore so why do you need a key to my house? I gave you back your key.
Levi: You can get another key if you want.
You: That is not the point. The point is we broke up. So we don't need to be in each others lives at all anymore.
Levi: I never said I didn't want you in my life.
Tsk. The nerve of this man.
You: You made it clear that you didn't want something long term with me. So what was the point of wasting both of our times?
Levi didn't respond. Ghosted. Typical for him.
The next day you have the opening shift - 6am to 2 pm. You prefer the morning shifts but the wake ups never get easier.
You help serve the customers and make coffee - thankfully your shop is locally owned and doesn't get terribly busy. You also get to see the same faces every day which is comforting.
When you look up after making a matcha latte, you see Mikasa Ackerman. Levi's cousin who you took on as your little sister. After the break up, you swore you would stay in her life. Your face lights up when her eyes meet yours and you run around the counter to give her a hug.
"Mikasa! God I missed you!" You cup her face with your hands. "You look good. How's life? How's Eren?"
"I missed you too." Mikasa smiled. "I'm good and Eren is good. We would love to go to dinner with you soon!"
"Okay, but your cousin is not invited." You half laugh, mostly because he might actually show up.
"Absolutely not." She grabbed her latte. "I've gotta run to work, it was nice seeing you! I'll text you!"
The rest of your workday went as normal. No Levi interruptions.
"Have a good day!" You wave goodbye to your boss and open the door to leave.
There he is, leaning against your car.
You swat at him to get off your car. "Don't you have a job?"
"I do. I'm on my lunch." Levi moved to the left of where he just was.
"Okay... so go get something for lunch. I'm leaving."
"I wanted to get lunch with you. We should talk."
"Oh now we should talk." You raise your arms. "Now Levi Ackerman is ready to talk. That's great, talk to a therapist." You slam your car door and start the engine.
"If I talk to a therapist can I take you to lunch?"
"No."
"I want us to be friends." Levi leaned into your car. You can't help but stare at his sculpted jawline and his jet black locks that cover one of his eyebrows. He definitely just got his undercut done.
"We can't be friends." You snap yourself out of whatever trance you were in. "I don't need any more friends."
"You have 1 friend and that's Hange."
"And that's enough for me. Anything else?"
"We're gonna be friends." Levi tapped the car window. "You don't really have a choice."
"You're like a roach." You press the button for your window to close. Levi's still staring at you intently. He never answered your text but felt so compelled to show up to your job and beg you to be friends?
As days go by, you feel the hole in your heart that Levi left start to close ever so slightly. You're nowhere near rebuilt, but you're healing. You spend your time working, writing, reading, and trying your best to avoid seeing Levi. He's stopped his random visits and hasn't text you, which feels... right. You're not supposed to talk to your ex boyfriend after you break up. Especially when you didn't want to break up but HE didn't want to commit long term.
...Right?
your missing sign suna rintarō x fem!reader (fluff) synopsis: you wonder what'll happen at the end of your skate together word count: 1.1k warnings: skate blades, rom-com ending masterlist | requests are open part 1 / part 2
   "my hands won't stop shaking, kiyoko," you watch as your fingers tremble upon trying to tie the laces of your skates.
  despite your years of competitions and experience skating with actual figure skaters, this is the most worried you've ever felt. part of you assumes it's because suna might not be able to catch you when you fall. while the rest of your brain knows it's because you don't want it to end. you don't want to finish the skate and watch him leave seconds later, yet you know it's bound to happen.
  and yet your hands can't stop shaking from the inevitable. "y/n, first of all, nothing bad is going to happen out there. you're both good skaters and you'll know what to do. and secondly, he likes you!"
  "you have no idea-"
  "you don't see the way he looks at you when you practice..."
  an eyebrow raises on your face, an unimpressed frown lining your lips. you wanna believe kiyoko's fantasy of the two of you kicking it off by the end of it. yet, you can still feel the lingering doubt deep within. even when you look up and see suna not too far off, his hand waving.
  it's a short wave, barely noticeable if you weren't paying attention. you raise your hand and give him a similar wave, the only difference being that you are waving him over to where you are. even if the two of you parted ways forever, you figure that it would be on good terms. or at least, better terms, than where you started.
  kiyoko knowingly backs away, saying goodbye before retreating for her husband and figure skating partner. what you don't see is the soft smirk on her face as she walks away. certain that the two of you will get together.
  "hello partner, you ready to throw me around?" you question, crossing your arms in front of your chest.
  partner? your mind rings with disbelief that you would ever call someone 'partner' like a cowboy. let alone someone you're romantically attracted to. luckily, it just causes him to laugh, shaking his head in confusion. he holds out his hand for you to grab, raising an eyebrow, a mischievous smile on his face, "partner? i thought we were just two skaters who won't ever skate together past this experience."
  "i wish we weren't..." you mumble, grabbing ahold of his calloused hands and pulling yourself up.
  suna tilts his head, unable to pull his eyes away from yours. "wait, what did you say?" a small smile grows on his face and his hand holds just a little tighter against yours.
  you shrug, heart beating a little quicker at the sight of his face less than a foot from yours. despite ending up with close bodies and faces every practice, you can still feel the heat in your cheeks raise to that of an uncomfortable level. his smile stays fit on his face as he awaits an answer from you.
  "i wanna make sure i heard you right, what did you say?" suna's eyes begin to search yours, unwilling to move to anything else.
  "nothing, i just think we should get ready, our skate is almost up," of course you wanted to tell him, tell him that despite what little time the two of you spent together, you feel strongly for him.
  however, every rational part of your mind is screaming at you that this is nothing but a winter fling. that the two of you will leave each other in a few meek hours. that suna is simply asking because he wants to see whether you told him off or something. your eyes look between him and the ice, shaking your head.
  you couldn't possibly tell him, not when he could so easily push you away. no matter how hard his eyes stare into your soul, you can't bring yourself to tell him that everything you've wanted the past few days is in front of you. especially when you didn't know why there was such a switch in your heart.
  "you said it yourself, we're just two skaters who will part ways after this event, let's get on with it," you pull your eyes from his, looking down at your skates, the laces pulling all of your attention.
  "i was joking, y/n. and when i told you that at the beginning of our practices, i didn't know you then. i certainly didn't know how amazing of a person you are," suna sticks to your first name, rolling it off of his tongue like the two of you had known each other forever.
  thoughts roll into your head that he could be lying, that he's faking it to make fun of you. that maybe no one could like you like that. anxiety bubbles up through your body, and you bite your lip, keeping your eyes to the floor. suna furrows his eyebrows, lifting a hand until your chin rests on his index finger.
  he lifts your head up, a small smile on his lips, "you're phenomenal, and if you really don't want this to end, something that i hope is more than just a partnership, then i don't either."
  "i'm so happy you said that," you reach forward and grab his hand, intertwining your fingers with his.
  "i am too," he leans forward, tilting his head a little as he brushes your lips with his.
  it's such a soft touch that it nearly tickles you, your hand tightening against his. you push forward on the balls of your feet as your face begins to feel warmer. without thinking, suna begins to smile into the kiss, his lips soft and somewhat delicate.
  you probably could've stood like that for forever, his thumb running against his your cheekbone, his fingers carefully resting on your knuckles. however, as mysterious as fate can be, someone shouts out your names. the voice sounds so familiar as it says something.
  "y/n! suna! your skate is about to start!" kiyoko stands side by side with tanaka, their arms intertwined as she waves you over.
  suna pulls away from the kiss, his eyes lingering between your eyes and lips. he lets out a short sigh and a part of him wants to say 'fuck it' to leaving the competition just to be with you. however, as he watches you smile wildly at kiyoko and at the ice, he knows that skating with you would be the best experience he could go through.
  "suna, would you want to go get coffee after this?"
  "absolutely, and call me rintarō. i think it would sound best coming from you."
Life of the Party
Tumblr media
Pairing: Sirius Black x Fem!reader
Characters: Sirius Black, Fem!reader, James Potter, Lily Potter nee Evans, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Marlene McKinnon, Dorcas Meadows, Nymphadora Tonks (briefly mentioned), Harry Potter (briefly mentioned)
Warnings: Angst, this is random, during the first war, has bits of the sceond war involved, this probably doesn't track with the timeline, but certainly kept me entertained, not all information is accurate but that's to be expected, I had no idea where this was going, the last line makes me cry on the inside
Word Count: 2,601
A/N: Was I watching "Only Murders in the building" while writing this, giving it the murder mystery vibe, I feel it has? Maybe. No regrets though.
James took his time proposing
Voldemort slowly started getting stronger and then Peter joined him.
There are no known reactions to the bloodroot poison... I made up my own, hence the murder mystery vibe.
This is partially inspired by "Life of the Party" by Shawn Mendes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m telling you to take your shot, it might be scary.” You shrug, "maybe she's ready for you two to take the next step." You're just hoping that if you push him a little more, they can be even happier.
And maybe, James can finally shut up about wanting to have the same last name, whatever comes first.
James nods, taking in every word you’re saying.
“We don’t have the time to be sorry," you tell him.
The faint whispers of evil lurking around every corner are slowly becoming louder in your mind.
You hold your breath for a second.
“She’s right,” Marlene shrugs.
Dorcas shakes her head, not liking it when the two of you agree with one another.
The blonde shares a look with the girl closest to her. “Why doesn’t he just man up and ask her?”
The dark-haired woman shrugs, “I don’t know. You’re asking the wrong person.”
Sirius leans against you with his arm wrapped around your shoulder, "am I hearing that Prongs is going to be an idiot again? Still don't know how to pop the question, do you?"
James rolls his eyes. "Thank you," he says to you before running off. "Look at that, we're alone now."
“Are we invisible to you, you dolt?” Dorcas grabs Marlene’s wrist and hauls her out of your home.
“I think he's going to do it now.”
“He’s not.”
“You want to bet?”
The blonde nods, “I do. Ten pounds.”
“And a butter beer.”
Marlene scowls, “fine.”
They shake hands.
“You’re on.”
-
He sneaks around your home, making sure no one can see him. You shake your head. "Nice try, Sirius."
"What?" He pouts, following you after you brush him away from you.
"Don't push me away. I know you love me." He flutters his lashes as if that will further prove his case.
"I would love some peace and quiet. Besides, shouldn't you be checking on Remus right now? It's almost his time."
He sighs, "yeah. I just... wanted to see you before."
"Well, you did and now it's time to say goodbye."
"Fine, fine," he lets out a deep sigh, as if you've done something to him. "Promise me one thing?"
You stare into his eyes.
“You’ll tell me if you’ve been seeing things when I get back.”
You nod, gulping because you know what’s going to happen before then.
The corner of his lips curls upwards, thinking about being alone with you and hopefully asking you something he should have had a long time ago. "I'll be off now, little miss “life of the party”. I'll see you later?"
You rest your hands against the counter, preventing yourself from falling. You nod, "of course, Pads."
He smirks, shaking his head to rid him of his thoughts although he’s always fond when you call him by his nickname. "Alright, I'm off."
"Bye," you whisper, listening to his motorbike get farther from your home. You groan, raising one hand to your head. It's worse.
'The whispers get louder when the ticking stops.'
You want to forget it, but you can't.
His screams haunt you; you can't see his face, you don’t know who it is but it's more than enough to ruin your sleep, invading your mind at the most inconvenient times.
Your family's large grandfather clock chimes.
Nothing's going to work now, you know it. You don't know why you’re going in here but it’s the one place you believe to be in your best interest to reside in during this time.
You grab your wand from your boot and wave it.
The bookshelf moves out of the way.
A heavy breath escapes you.
No one but you know of your meek at home potions room. It's better this way, none of them will ask any questions or throw themselves into research.
By the time your clock chimes again, James and Lily will be the next future couple followed by a sweet little baby boy who will help carry on their family line.
Remus will be trying to finish his potion for the upcoming full moon.
Sirius will be the last of his siblings but not of his family's pureblood status.
And Peter-
“Come out tonight. Come out tonight,” you mutter, closing your eyes for a moment, waiting. "You found me."
"I never wanted this to happen."
"If you didn't want it to happen, you wouldn't have joined him. You wouldn’t have cowered into his grasp because you think he’s getting stronger."
"I- I'm sorry."
"Are you? Because I think you don’t have the time to be sorry. Or are you just saying that because of the bloodroot poison you put in my drink last week?"
Peter pauses in the doorway. "When did you know?"
"It's obvious when somethings not right with your body and you're stupid to think I wouldn't notice."
"You really want to fight with the person who could kill you?"
"You already have."
"It wasn't my choice."
"You didn't know whether you should have stayed on this side and when they found you, you chose to put that damned mark on your arm. You made a decision long ago. I'm just," you hold your breath, finding it hard to take a simple breath now. "Wondering what made you change?"
"Nothing," he mumbles.
"That's such a lie and you know it!"
His head snaps in your direction. "Everyone made me this way!"
You struggle to gulp down the saliva that filled your mouth.
"I was tired of being the joke of it all," he sniffs.
You don't know whether to feel bad for him or help him.
"I wanted the jokes to stop. I thought they would when we grew up, but they barely did."
"What jokes?" You whisper, now losing your voice.
"It doesn't matter now, what's done is done."
"Soon to be done. You're here to report to him that I'm dead, right?"
"N- no."
"You're distracting me, waiting until the end."
"Stop it."
"I hope you feel better."
"Better?"
"Thinking you chose the right side-" You take a step closer towards the table, your hand reaching out for it until you lose your balance and begin tumbling forward.
Peter reaches for you and holds you.
This is the last time he'll ever see you. And it hits him, what he's done to his friend.
There are no changing things now.
He adjusts you, cradling you in his arms as he sits behind you; the way a friend should comfort another one in need.
"Are you happy?"
He glances at you from the corner of his eye, staring at your side profile. "What?"
There's no more fight left in you and there's one thing you want someone to know, your last fighting words were something that will haunt your murderer. "Knowing you chose the wrong side."
"I-"
You close your eyes, not wanting your last sight to be of the secret you kept from your friends.
The grandfather clocks chimes once more and the whispers of his mind fill the silence.
Peter throws his head back, tears trickling down the sides of his face.
Nothing will ever be the same and no one will ever know what he's done.
Not until the end of the first war.
He carefully moves away from you and places you against the desk making it look as if you were sitting against the desk when you pass.
He kept it quiet of how you passed until the night he purposefully let Sirius take the blame for everything.
No one was able to truly move on after, most of all he and-
“She called herself the “life of the party” forever making a fool of herself,” he chuckles to himself.
"Pads, are you telling Harry the same story?"
The man in question turned around with his precious godson bundled in his arms. "No."
"Why lie when we all know it, Sirius?" Lily asks, holding her son's bottle as she tries to take the boy from him. "It's time for his bottle, Sirius."
"I can do it."
"No."
"Come on," he whines, with his bottom lip quivering.
It takes her back to every time when he would beg for your attention. She purses her lips, adjusting Harry in her arms. "It's almost nap time."
"Fine. James, sleep fort?"
"Of course, how else does one take a nap?"
She shakes her head at the two, knowing you would have something to say about it. "James."
"Coming, dear."
"I'll be here while you go help the man of the house."
"Hey."
Sirius raises his arms, "I'm kidding. I'm kidding."
He's left alone with his thoughts, something that's become more dangerous than before.
He thinks back to the story he was telling his godson, which was the night before your guys' seventh year when you decided to do some digging and found the bottle of fire whisky he had hidden, saving for a special occasion and ended up giving yourself a nickname.
You were so, so... drunk.
-
You smile and raise your hands, not at all careful to hide the bottle of fire whiskey. “It's time to be the life of the party.”
Everyone was confused as to why you did this, why you’d lost yourself.
"Someone needs to get her down from that table before she trips and breaks something," Lily hisses.
"We can use magic to heal her."
"Now is not the time to sass me, Sirius."
"Uh- nope, that one was me," Remus raises his hands.
"Someone please, help me get her down."
The three boys take a step forward at the same time.
"Come on, darling. It's time to come down."
You pout, holding the bottle close to your chest. "I don't wanna."
James snorts. "Can it, Prongs."
"I didn't say anything, Padfoot."
"Boys, please. Let's just get close to the table and then Pads can try and ease her down while we help?" The werewolf adds.
"Siri, come up and join me."
"Join you?"
"Become the life of the party with me."
“Sweetheart, I already am.” He holds his hand out for you to take. “Come and party with me down here.”
“No,” you tell him.
“Yes.”
“No.”
“Prongs, Moony,” he jerks his head to the side. “Over here.”
They follow, leaving the red head to deal with you.
“Alright, boys. Moons, you grab the bottle while Prongs my boy,” he smacks the bespectacled boy’s shoulder. “You distract, pull her in with that odd charm that drew your rosy, red head in.”
“I feel like I should be offended.”
Sirius raises a brow, “are you?”
“No.”
“Then you’re fine. Ready boys. On three.”
“Please don’t try to use sports analogies,” Remus interrupts.
“Rude.”
“Hey,” James calls out for you. “Look at me.”
This gives Remus enough time to remove the bottle from your hands and for Sirius to pull you down.
“What made you want to get up on a table?” He asked, holding you in his arms.
“I wanted to get away.”
He glances up, knowing you probably don’t want the others to hear. “Get away from what?”
“The images in my mind.”
“Do you-”
“She needs to have something other than that damned whiskey in her system. Bring her over to the couch,” Lily tells him.
-
He never knew what you saw before that night and didn’t ask when you didn’t remember anything that happened.
This was one of the first few sights that haunted his mind, followed by his best friend and his wife a year after.
That’s why when he saw you for the first time, he was going through so many emotions.
His voice calling out to you wasn’t out of the norm but seeing him when you turned around after the light taps on your shoulder was certainly a surprise.
Your eyes widen at the sight of him. “Sirius?”
He throws himself forward, almost squeezing you with his might. “It’s been too long, darling.”
Your hands shake as you fist handfuls of his shirt tightly, wrinkling his shirt in the process. “I- you,” you push him back. “You shouldn’t be here. You- you- Sirius you can’t be here,” you whisper.
“You shouldn’t be either but here we are. Just focus on this.” He cups your cheek.
“What?”
His thumb brushes across your cheek. “We’re together again.”
“You should be out there, living your life and- and teaching Harry so much more.”
“I am right where I need to be.” He smiles at you, staring into your eyes. “I’m back with you.”
You gulp, “you’re still an idiot.”
“No, I’m Sirius.”
You shake your head and pull him in for another hug… until an echoing voice causes you to furrow your brows.
“Pads! Pads!”
“Oh no,” you mumble.
“What?”
“Pads turn your stupid head around.”
“Who’s calling me stupid?”
You’re happy you let go of him when you did otherwise, you’d be on the ground with the two idiots you find yourself lucky enough to call friends.
“I didn’t want to interrupt the two of you.”
“I know,” you assure Lily. “It’s okay. I’m just happy to see you guys again.”
She wraps an arm around your shoulder, pulling you closer. “Me too.”
“Don’t forget about us,” Marlene calls out.
You two spin around, finding her and Dorcas running towards you guys.
“Took him long enough.”
“Marlene,” you hiss.
“What? I can’t pretend like you haven’t been depressed since that night. Everyone missed you and then when the first war came and we came here, you were so relieved that he wasn’t here but longing for him to come to you and you know it. You can’t hide it.”
You roll your eyes.
“So, you did miss me?” He says, staring up at you with a stargazed look in his eyes.
You turn away, avoiding his gaze. “No.”
“Someone’s lying, and it isn’t Sirius,” he says, attempting to egg you on.
“Come on, girls.”
“Wait- no.” He chases after you.
-
All of you stop, staring around the cemetery.
“What do we do now?”
“We wander around in true spirit fashion.”
“I vote we leave James behind,” you say, raising your hand.
“I second that vote,” Lily and Marlene add.
“Lily pad,” James gasps.
“Dorcas, come on. Don’t do this to me.”
“I’m with the side that doesn’t whine and complain.”
“But I’m nothing without whining and complaining. I was the only male here till Pads decided to join us.”
“I can see why they didn’t want you around.”
“Pads! I’m offended now!”
“Oh, well.” Sirius shrugs.
“You two haven’t changed a bit,” you comment. “It’s nice. I’ve missed seeing all of us being like this.”
“Like what?” Lily asks.
“Being young, not worried about a war coming our way.”
“I think we can all agree on that.”
“Did you all hear Moons has begun to pursue Tonks?” Sirius says.
“No."
"No way.”
-
You lead the others towards Diagon’s Alley, feeling a butter beer kind of night is something you all need.
“Don’t give her any fire whiskey. Otherwise, her “life of the party” personality will come out.” Marlene teases.
“That was one time,” you defend yourself.
“Lies,” Dorcas says, coughing into her hand.
“You all suck.” You pout.
Sirius leans in, “how’s it feel?”
“Don’t be like that, Sirius.”
“What? So, Sirius? I can’t, that’s who I am.”
“I hate you.”
“You love me.”
You stare into his eyes. ‘I missed you more than anything, Siri.’
“I do.”
His smile widens, “I knew it.”
You close your eyes, wanting this to fill the blocks you made in your memory.
Everyone needs a little happy scene they can think back to.
PAIRING: dabi x reader
SUMMARY: in which you and dabi are childhood best friends who are bad with feelings.
alternatively, all the words unspoken between you and dabi are summarized with just one short word: goodbye.
TAGS & WARNINGS: implied sex, smoking, kinda unhealthy relationship, implied body horror (it's dabi)
a/n: this has been rotting in my drafts for so long; i wrote this before dabi's backstory was officially revealed no one come for me for the wonky timeline
six.
you didn't like cleaning houses. or, a better way of putting it was, you didn't like cleaning someone else's house six days a week, four weeks a month, twelve months a year.
days always ended with back pain and scraped knees from the intense floor scrubbing, and you didn't like the way the wet rags would leave your fingers wrinkled and cramping.
your mom insisted that cleaning was fun because it built character and discipline. you insisted that it wasn't fun, and that cleaning your house was much easier than cleaning a mansion (but, really now, anything was a mansion to you compared to your one bedroom house).
"okay, how about we play another game?" your mom asks with a teasing smile. "whoever cleans the mops the fastest, wins!"
it was five o'clock in the evening and you were tired— your shoulders and elbows hurt and at this point you were ready to pass out in your futon back at home. but work is from seven to seven, and you still had to polish the gym's... red mill? treck mill? you can't remember what they were called.
"but momma, i'm tired." you whined. "can we go home now? i wanna go to school tomorrow."
the wide smile on your mom's face gets smaller, and you don't know how to describe it. she was smiling but why did she seem sad? smiles weren't meant to be sad.
"maybe you should skip school tomorrow too. don't you want to spend more time with momma?"
you do want to spend more time with momma, but you've been skipping school for two months now. you miss your friends. you miss when work was play, and play was play, and play was fun.
when you don't reply, your mom sighs and kneels on the floor, fingers lifting your chin to meet her eyes. "tell you what. how about you rest for now, okay? i'll clean up the mops and polish the treadmills, you stay here. if anyone comes in, just pretend to be cleaning, okay?"
"okay!"
her foot steps pad away when she slides the big door close, and you sigh when you finally sit down for the first time in what felt like hours. but just as soon as the doors slid close, they opened again, and you tense. you knew it wasn't your mom, mom always knocks.
"oh— uh, sorry." a boy, probably the son of your mom's client, murmurs in surprise. his white hair is the first thing you notice, his blue eyes (were they blue? maybe green?) the second. "i saw L/N-san leave the gym and thought you were finished."
"we're almost done," was the only thing you managed to say softly, before— "oh!" you dipped into a deep bow. "good evening, todorki-sama."
"ugh, sama?" you don't see but the boy grimaces. "don't call me that, you make me sound so old."
"i'm sorry, todoroki—"
"—san."
"okay, todoroki-san."
"...you can stop bowing now," he laughs awkwardly, and you straighten up. "my dad says i'm not supposed to talk to you."
"mom says I’m not supposed to talk to you either."
"oh."
a moment passes, and neither of you know what to say. you were still staring at the floor and fiddling with your hands while waiting for him to talk or leave or... something.
suddenly, todoroki clears his throat, awkwardly shifting around. "why don't the adults want us to talk?"
"i don't—"
"todoroki touya!" a firm voice booms from the doorway, and you grab a rag and start polishing the reck mill. you don't turn around when you hear todorki approach his father, footsteps fading away and the door sliding shut again.
no more than a minute later, your mom came back. she lifted your chin again and gave you a kiss on the forehead, small smile on her face when she grabbed a rag to help you clean.
she looked paler than she did when she left, and you don't mention it when you notice her fingers start shaking. you don't mention the red stuff on the white handkerchief peeking out of her pocket, either.
Tumblr media
eight.
"i'm bored."
"okay."
"i'm bored."
"i heard you."
"y/n, i'm bored."
"what am i supposed to do about it?"
"...entertain me."
you smile. "entertain you how?"
"tell me about your quirk," todoroki said one day, mindlessly tapping his pencil on the table. there was some kind of math written on the papers in front of him, but it was gibberish in your eyes— you could, just barely, read and count, but you don't know what business a triangle has being surrounded by numbers and the ABCs.
"i don’t have one, todorki-san."
"touya-kun, i told you to call me touya-kun." he grumbles, and you giggle.
"okay, touya-kun." you don't know why touya kept talking to you— he was probably bored, like he said, and maybe lonely— but you liked his company.
"did the counselor say you were quirkless?"
"no," you adjust your grip on the broom. "mom says we can't afford quirk counseling, but she's quirkless so i probably am too."
"don't schools have free quirk counseling?"
school. huh, you haven't thought of that in a while. so you shrug. "i wouldn't know, i don't go to school anymore."
"really?!" he screeches, and you nod. a long, bored groan escapes his lips, and you laugh when be dramatically flops down on the floor. "you're so lucky!"
not really, you wanted to say. i'm just lucky you're homeschooled so i'm not alone. speaking of which—
"are those from training again?" you eye the bruises that litter his arms. you don't think you've ever seen him without a bruise in the years you've known each other.
"yeah, dad's been really strict lately," he says, and you don't get the chance to ask him more about it because there's a knock on the door. you step away from him, going back to sweeping the room just as his mom comes in with a tray of food in her hands, and touya lets out a yell of happiness.
she teases him about his unfinished math homework before she leaves, and you try to ignore the smell of miso and fish his mom made for him. when was the last time you ate? was it yesterday or the other day? you couldn't remember.
"d'you want some?" touya asks when he hears your tummy grumble embarrassingly loud. but you decline. "no, it's okay. your mom made those for you."
"she made too much though, and i don't want it to go to waste."
liar. you've seen him eat, he could eat two servings of what he had now and still ask for dessert. but you keep quiet this time, putting down the broom and accepting todoroki's invitation when he pats the spot next to him.
"haven't you eaten lunch yet?" he asks, and you quietly shake your head as he lends you his chopsticks.
"well, why not?"
"i don't know how to cook."
"doesn't your mom cook for you?"
"she does, but she's in the hospital."
touya tries to think of the past week and realizes he hasn't seen her around, not even heard her voice to call you from another room. so he asks, "is she going to be okay?"
"maybe? the nice doctor said she'll be fine." you reply. touya only nods.
he slips two rice balls in your bag just before you leave that day, telling you to give one to your mom when she gets back from the hospital.
"oh! and tell her i said hi."
he keeps slipping you rice balls after that because you never got to tell her he said hi, and you never got to tell her goodbye, either.
Tumblr media
eleven.
there are sniffles coming from touya's room.
the sniffles make you pause mid-polish of a large and empty vase in the hallway, and you've been awkwardly standing in front of his door for a good six minutes now, unsure what to do. should you go get his parents? no, that would make it seem like you were eavesdropping on their son. should you knock? yeah, knocking seemed like a good choice.
so you do; three soft knocks on his door, and suddenly the sniffles stop.
"touya?" you call out, knocking again. "it's me."
there's a moment of silence before the door hesitantly cracks open. he doesn't open it all the way at first, one eye peeking out to make sure it really was you. the door opens fully this time, and you're confused when he peers around the empty hallway, eyes lingering to make sure no one was there, before yanking you inside, arms wrapping around your waist and his head tucking into the crook of your neck.
"touya, what are you—"
"please stay with me," came his little squeak, followed by more sniffles and his body wracking from his ragged breaths. an arm wraps around his torso, the other one cradling the back of his head as you shushed him and reassured him, slowly rocking both your bodies back and forth.
"do you want to talk about it?" you ask quietly, and touya shakes his head, burrowing deeper into you.
you nod. "it's okay, you don't have to."
your words were calm and reassuring but internally you were panicking. all the hairs on your body stood on its end because there was this... smell, one that you could only compare to a mixture of butane and a burning dumpster.
burning skin, your brain horrifically corrected, and every fibre of your being was screaming at you to get the hell out of there.
but then you realize where the smell is coming from, and its only when you lean back do you realize touya's arms were red and raw. how the hell did you not see that before?
"your arms—"
"i know," he cuts you off, voice nasally and choked up. "i don't want to talk about it. you said we didn't have to talk about it."
you sigh, gently coaxing him from where he was still buried in the crook of your neck, and his grip on you only tightens. "i'm not leaving, i promise." your hand begins to rub reassuring circles on his back. "i just want you to look at me."
when you coax him out again, he obliges, but still doesn't look at you. so you do the first thing that came to mind— a habit learned from a hazy memory of your mother.
fingers gently grasped the bottom of his chin, gently lifting up his gaze before soft lips place a small kiss on his forehead. he freezes at first, but he gradually melts into your gentle touch, once again burrowing his face into the crook of your neck as you whispered small reassurances into his ear.
the following day, touya's eyes were a little dimmer and he wore nothing but long sleeved shirts.
Tumblr media
fourteen.
When you first came to work on a random Tuesday afternoon, the entire Todoroki estate was quiet. This was normal. They were a family who spoke to each other quietly, never raising their voice or making a ruckus (except for Endeavor). What wasn’t normal, however, was the somber mood that seemed to loom the entire house as a woman with white hair and red streaks— the eldest Todoroki sister, you remember— wordlessly gave you your list of chores for the day before locking herself in her room.
The atmosphere made you uncomfortable. It didn’t help that Touya didn’t even attempt to bother you the entire day either, but you didn’t think much of it. He was probably doing his homework in the study or training somewhere else.
So it came as a surprise to you when, just as you were walking through the park on your way back home, the smell of burnt flesh reached your nose once again and all the hair in your body stood up. Your instincts screamed at you to run, something you undoubtedly would’ve done had a hand not shot out from underneath the bushes and tripped you, forcing you to fall on the ground and meet two familiar turquoise eyes— hidden in the shrubbery— staring into your own.
After getting over your initial shock you took Touya back to the house your mother had left behind. Normally you wouldn’t be allowed to keep a house if you were underage, but lucky for you things the government mixed up your files and you were allowed to inherit it with no next of kin or legal guardians. The house fell to your name, and it was all you had left.
“I- Touya, I don’t know what to do.” You panicked, staring at the angry red flesh on his arms and upper torso. He was lying down on your tiny kitchen table, shirtless and pants charred. Your cleaning gloves did little to hide the shake of your hands, the visual of him in pain and surrounded by bloodied rags. “I can’t treat you. We need to call the hospital—”
“Don’t.” He rasped weakly, breathing heavy. You noticed that the underside of his eyes were burnt as well. Didn’t it hurt him to blink? “You can’t.”
“Why not?!”
“My family thinks I’m dead.”
sixteen.
Around spring, you finally had the guts to resign from your job at the Todoroki household and pursue another one. It wasn’t anything big— just a small waitressing job at a curry restaurant a couple blocks away from your neighborhood. Still, the pay was okay and you didn’t have to watch a family mourn the loss of a son you were secretly harboring.
You weren’t sure exactly what prompted you to let him stay. He told you a little bit of his life— why he did what he did, and though you sympathized with him fully was it really right for you to keep him around?
Maybe it was the feeling of being indebted to him every time you pretended not to see him slip an extra cup of rice or an extra bowl of soup into your take home meals. Maybe it was the feeling of being thankful when he secretly lent you books so you could improve your skills on reading and writing. Maybe it was the feeling of guilt from not making him tell you what was bothering him on the day you heard him crying, convinced that if you had then you wouldn’t be here now. You weren’t sure— but you were glad you let him stay.
“Hey, I’m home.” You called out tiredly, dumping your keys in your bag. A puff of white hair peaked out from behind the couch, and you couldn’t help the amusement in your eyes as you stared at Touya.
“Got another piercing, I see.” You mused as you set down the bag of curry on the diningroom table. Touya didn’t reply as he silently extinguished his cigarette and helped you set the table.
Ever since the day he faked his own death, he’s been... different, to say the least, and you weren’t surprised at all.
He’s been more closed off, more quiet. You weren’t sure if it was because he didn’t like being a “jobless deadbeat” (his words, not yours) while you worked your ass off to support the two of you; or if it was because he wasn’t used to living “the poor life” (again, his words not yours) compared to his previous life of luxury.
You didn’t have much to offer; just an old but well-kept house that's seen better days, a large futon you and your mother shared, and a life living paycheck to paycheck and buried in debt while he busied himself with chores and whatever he could do around the small house.
Three meals a day wasn’t guaranteed with your budget so you had to cut it down to two a day at most. And even then, there’d be times you’d only eat once. Meals were usually composed of either canned food, instant noodles, leftovers, or raw ingredients that were close to going bad. Touya had never had anything that wasn’t fresh or organic, and the first few weeks were a struggle for his stomach to adjust. But with how he first came to you, his delicate stomach was the least of his problems.
The burns on his skin weren’t treated properly thanks to your limited medical knowledge. You had to keep them bandaged the first couple months he’d stayed with you, and since you couldn’t afford both painkillers and clean bandages at the same time, there was nothing to numb Touya to the pain. Fortunately, he healed just fine. Yet he refused to take off the bandages and let you see the dark purple marks where his tan skin used to be.
You knew it still hurt him to move but you also knew that if you tried to stop him he’d only throw a fit. Doing chores around the house and keeping things clean was, according to him, the least he could do to help. He didn’t clean as well as someone who does it for a living, but his efforts to keep your shared home tidy didn’t go unappreciated. He was fairly okay at cooking simple things that only needed frying or boiling— nothing too complex since he’s never really had a need to cook for himself, much less for another person. Housework was his way of saying thank you, and you weren’t about to take it away from him.
“I don’t understand how you always come home with two curry bowls.” Touya finally speaks, and you’re snapped out of your thoughts. “Thought the restaurant only let you have one free take away per day. Do you buy me this shit every night?”
“Yeah, sure, I can definitely do that with my salary.” You replied. “Nah. Luckily one of the line cooks has a thing for me and doesn’t mind slipping me an extra meal. He thinks I have it for breakfast in the morning.”
He scoffs but doesn’t reply.
“Help me dye my hair black,” was the first thing he said when you asked him what he wanted to do for his birthday. You had a little bit of money set aside for a present. Nothing too expensive or grand, but just enough that you could actually afford something out of your tightly monitored expenses— monitored by none other than your roommate— that wasn’t cup noodles.
You didn’t hesitate to run to the nearest drugstore to buy cheap black dye and help him with his hair. Black water trickled down the drain as you held the shower head over his hair.
“What’s it look like, doll?” He asked.
“You look like a really ugly wet dog.”
“That’s rich coming from someone who grinded on me like a bitch in heat last night.”
You chuckled. Well, you couldn’t argue with that.
He stopped wearing his bandages months ago. It was a miracle that you found an under the table doctor who agreed to help patch him up for a reasonable price. You already computed everything— the operation that involved putting staples around his arms, face and torso was cheaper than buying fresh bandages every damn day. It’d take the better part of at least three years to pay off, but seeing him grow to embrace the silver studs on his burnt body the way he embraced his beloved ear piercings made you smile.
He’s been starting to go out of the house, too. He doesn’t tell you where he goes— not that he had to— but you were glad he stopped cooping himself up inside.
“You look good, Tou- sorry, Dabi.” You murmured.
His hands were gripping the sides of the tub as you continued to wash the excess dye from his hair, and you pretend not to notice the familiar smell of burnt flesh sticking to his jacket despite the fact that you knew his burns were already healed. You also pretend not to notice the new clothes he wore that definitely weren’t in his closet this morning.
“You look good.”
Dabi only got rougher from there.
He became more crude in the way he spoke, and sometimes he’d disappear for days on end without a single word. You got nervous the first few times he did it, scolding him and telling him to never make you worry like that ever again (he still did).
He’d roll his eyes and yell at you to back off, he wasn’t your boyfriend, stop being so damn clingy. You hated those fights the most. They usually ended with Dabi sleeping on the couch or storming out, and you angry crying yourself to sleep at night. The only thing that brought you comfort was that he always came back.
“I’m heading out, don’t wait up for me.” He spoke, putting on his coat.
“Are you going to come back within the week?”
“I don’t know.”
You sighed. “Okay. Take care.”
It’d be hypocriticial to say his secrets bothered you because he wasn’t the only one with secrets. Even with your promotion at the restaurant, even with you working overtime and taking extra shifts to the point that you barely got any sleep, money was still tight. Bills were getting steeper, banks were demanding money from your debts, and groceries were getting more expensive.
It was the line cook that kept flirting with you that introduced you to the scene of underground poker. He was a gambler and decided to take you to one of his games in an attempt to impress you (not knowing about your live in not-boyfriend). He won every game that night and started taking you to all his matches, saying he always played better when he was with you. Even called you his “lucky ace.” You only rolled your eyes but let him show you off so long as he kept slipping you extra dinner every night. That was, until, you learned the ropes and became a gambler yourself and quickly made a name in the underground scene.
Dabi wasn’t dumb. He knew that the money you magically found to pay off his operation from two years ago as well as your debt to the hospital that treated your mother wasn’t from your savings. He knew that the fresh meat and vegetables you started buying from the market weren’t there because the grocer had a sale. And he damn well knew that you secretly quit your job at the restaurant even though you acted like you were still employed, even going as far as putting on your old uniform whenever you left for “work.”
And yet, just like you never questioned where he suddenly got the money to contribute to the household, he never questioned where you got yours.
It was around your second year of being a professional underground poker player did your secret get revealed to Dabi. You were too careless. The sudden transfer to a “restaurant branch” in the city. The expensive clothes and unexplained budget for much needed home renovations. The appearance of painkillers and anti-irritation ointment (that he definitely didn’t buy) in his bedside drawer. The stash of card decks— clearly only used once at most— that you hid in a duffel bag in your closet.
Dabi didn’t comment on these.
He did, however, comment on the elegenat white and gold invitation to a professional poker match set for this Friday evening, addressed to an infamous masked player who had a record of never losing a single match. How could he not comment on it when you so generously left it out in the open.
“I knew you were up to some gambling but I didn’t expect you to be the infamous Lucky Ace.” He mused one night, holding the prestigious cardboard between his fingertips. He was sure if he tried to sell the invitation he’d get some money for it— he knows what real gold feels like when he touches it. “Never thought it’d be you. They say Lucky Ace’s Quirk is luck. The manipulation of probabilities, both of others and your own.”
You merely chuckled in amusement. You weren’t blessed with the Quirk of luck— you just happened to be a skilled gambler.
“I’ve had a lot of offers for your head.”
“And I’ve had a lot competition who turned up dead and burnt to a crisp before my matches.” You replied. “Thanks for that, by the way. I haven’t received a single paycheck in weeks.”
Ah, that too. Dabi was also getting careless. You definitely knew he was a kill for hire, and you definitely knew he was employed under another professional poker player who wanted to get to the top the easy way. You had a feeling he’s been the cause for your competitors sudden disappearances, and the unexplained duffel bags full of cash that sat next to yours didn’t help.
“Looks like we’ve both been careless.” He lazily threw the invitation to you. “Do me a favor— lose your match with Black Jack tomorrow, will ya? Now that I know who Lucky Ace is, boss won’t be happy that I let you live.”
You scoff. “You want me to lose to a guy who’s initials spell out blowjob? The hell do you take me for?”
Normally he loved your sharp tongue and crude jokes, but right now it wasn’t helping. The bounty on Lucky Ace’s head was too big to pass up, and if you won against Black Jack— his boss— tomorrow then the prize would only double. He wouldn’t be the only one out for your head by then.
He sighed, raising up one hand to show you the spark of blue flames. Intimidate you. He was trying to intimidate you. Or warn you— you didn’t fucking know.
But you merely smirked. “Wanna fuck?”
His eye twitched, and he pondered it for a few seconds. Groaning, he extinguished the flame.
“You’re lucky you’re a good lay.”
twenty-two.
It was in the afterglow of sex that words unspoken revealed themselves.
Well, sort of.
Two sweaty bodies, panting next to each other. The smell of cigarettes and hormones thick in the air. The feeling of lips placing a kiss to your forehead as you wrapped the sheets around your torso, turning as you looked at the man beside you.
“What would you do if you found out I was secretly dating that line cook you hated so much?” You asked. His arm lazily wrapped around your shoulders and pulled you closer, your head resting on his chest. Dabi took a long drag from his cigarette before exhaling, thinking it through. You took the stick from his hand and took a drag of your own.
“Damn, that’s good.” You murmured. “Not even reds can beat seven stars.”
He took the cigarette back from you and flicked off the ashes on the tray next to the bed.
“If you were dating what’s-his-name but still ask me to fuck you at least twice a week then he’s gotta be a virgin or some shit.” He finally replies. “That, or the poor guy’s dick isn’t enough to satiate you.”
“So... you’d be okay with it?”
“Does it matter? I’m not your boyfriend.”
“You could be, y’know.” You murmured, tracing your finger against his collarbone. “My boyfriend— I mean.”
“Sorry, doll. M’not interested in being your mistress.”
You clicked your tongue. “I’m not dating him, you dumbass. It was a hypothetical question.”
That was the closest you and Dabi ever got to a confession. That was the closest you ever got to asking him out after years of sexual tension that turned out to be romantic.
And the little kisses you peppered across his callous knuckles was the closest you ever got to saying “I love you.”
Fortunately, Dabi didn’t reject you or push you away. Instead he stayed the night cuddled up to you, holding your hand and waiting for you to fall asleep before slipping out of your hold and disappearing in the middle of the night for a job, just like he always did.
That was the closest he ever got to saying “I love you too.”
Dabi doesn’t like telling you shit.
At least, not when you’re awake. He did, however, have a lot of silent conversations with you when you’re asleep. His trips home became fewer and further in between, and every time he stayed he’d only stay the night or for three days at most. You tried to ask him about it once but he was always vague with his answers.
He tells you he doesn’t care, and you tell him you don’t either. He pretends not to notice when you buy the expensive brand of miso broth with your own money because you knew it was the one thing he missed from his old life. You pretend not to notice the fresh cup of tea and warm bento boxes that you wake up to whenever he leaves after his rare visits.
He doesn’t talk that much about his feelings— not out loud. But he does find himself pulling your sleeping form, clad in nothing but your underwear and one of his shirts, closer to him at night. He finds his arm tightening around your waist and his nose burying itself in the back of your neck to inhale the scent that was unmistakably you, trying to remember it always.
I have to leave you again. He thinks to himself, staring at your peaceful face. I’m not sure if I’m coming back this time.
An invite had been extended to him— from a group that called themselves the League of Villains. It sounded pretentious, he wasn’t even going to lie, but they were aligned enough in terms of ideals that he didn't immediately tell them to fuck off. Still, there was no denying that they were a dangerous bunch. Your not-so-secret lifestyles were separate and there was a mutual unspoken rule that you wouldn’t involve the other.
Unlike your secret job, though, that involved you getting dressed in branded clothes and adorning fancy rings and expensive watches; that involved luxurious invitations to secret upscale poker games; that involved a black sedan that seemed to change number plates every time he saw it pull up to the front of the house to pick you up and drop you off; his job was much more dangerous. He worked with dangerous people, doing dangerous things, playing with dangerous ideals.
He already knew— despite your denial— that your Quirk was definitely luck. Too many things that could be brushed off as coincidence had luckily fallen into your lap. Too many coincidences was no longer a coincidence.
It was your Quirk protecting you, not him, when he kisses your forehead and slips out of your hold for what would be the last time to keep you from harm. At least that’s what he tells himself as gathers his clothes and belongings from around the house, trying to make it look like he was never there. He was a dangerous criminal— a villain now, and he’d be damned if he dragged you into his mess.
He takes one last look at you asleep on your shared futon, trying to burn the image to his mind so he never forgets. He wasn’t going to bring anything that could be traced back to you. He already blocked your contact and deleted all the photos he had of you on his phone, all the messages and call logs too. He’s already done the same process to your phone since you never changed your passcode.
Not a trace of you in his life and not a trace of him in yours, he tells himself as he eyes the shirt you wore. It was his. You could keep it, he guesses. He could just strip you down and get on with life, but he couldn’t do it without waking you up and messing up his plans. At least, that’s what he tries to convince himself as he walks away.
He’s got his coat on now and he left you a little bit of cash just in case. Not that you needed it, of course. You were a professional gambler who made more bank than he did. A black duffel bag’s slung over his shoulder that had all his stuff, and he’s giving the small house he called home one last once over to make sure there was never any indication that he was in your life. Will you hate him for leaving? He doesn’t know, and he doesn’t care if you forgive him or not. This was to keep you safe. This was for the best.
He admires you for the last time as he slides the door open, sighing as he finally admits his feelings— for the first and last time— into the dark of the night.
“I love you, doll.”
And he pretends not to hear the faint whisper behind him when he closes the door.
“I love you too, Dabi.”
