worst thing that could happen to a potential TID adaptation is making it really serious like the City of Bones movie. like the movie is objectively fine & follows canon pretty well but the vibes are so utterly atrocious it's basically a chore to watch. like every line is delivered in the same monotone because it's Serious and the whole movie is grey and muted and it just does not work! it's really obvious with Magnus's scenes and the fact they changed why Simon was taken by the vampires. like maybe him turning into a rat was camp and fun! maybe if you all showed more than two emotions this would actually engaging! and idk I feel like it could be so much worse with TID because it's set in the Victorian era and a lot of period pieces are Serious and Gritty yknow? but one of the strongest aspects of the series is that it's funny! like if I'm not grinning like an idiot and giggling and gasping in shock as I'm watching it I don't want it!
