it's funny that narcissism is called abusive like, yeah i have awful traits, but i try very hard to offset them and not be shitty??? and i'm certainly not the only one who can do that

Robin: Every human being on Earth is instantly granted a basic knowledge of ASL - even just the alphabet would be fine, fingerspelling is better than nothing. She's tired of people expecting her to play catch-up instead of making an effort to communicate themselves.

Madison: Wishes for her daggers to be unbreakable, and for them to always return to her when she wants them. Kestrel: Their identity as Kestrel is now innate to them - they can still shapeshift, but they don't have to work so hard to find their way back.

Quinn: All the damage to her legs and back is reversed. Hell, she doesn't even care if she's still in pain, just let her run again.

Eris: Very nearly, impulsively wishes for Rick to be immortal so they won't have to watch him die sometime in the future- but stops himself, remembering how many times they've had arguments like this. Finally she comes up with conditions: Rick is immortal until he chooses not to be, and his immortality is the same as Eris' (no aging, accelerated healing but not invulnerable, stronger when rested).

Nikoletta: Almost wishes for her shadow-touch to be no more... then decides she can live with it. Instead she wishes that Abner is never haunted by his past or his mother again. That's far too personal for her to admit, though, so if anyone asks she'll say that she wished for herself to feel warm again. It's a good alibi for most people, but Abner figures it out within the week (he's been strangely at peace for the first time in decades, and she still shivers in the middle of August)

my least favorite was stupid with love though,, the production makes it so boring i’m sorry😭

<-but what i will say is that the stupid with love reprise performed at the spring fling SLAPPED. why can’t that be on the soundtrackk

i feel like a lot of emotion that the original songs had is lost here. whether it be the production or the vocals accompanying it or both; i feel like they go hand in hand. reneé auli’i & jaquel definitely brought the energy that was needed here

the choreography & visuals that went with the songs definitely made them better than simply listening to the soundtrack on its own. like i was much more invested in what ifs & revenge party for example– and i already liked someone gets hurt, but the VISUALS??? holy shit that scene was incredible

i really wish a few songs were kept from the show like any of damian’s or that the someone gets hurt reprise in the movie was included in the soundtrack. hell i kind of wish do this thing was kept because i think that would’ve gone so hard at the end for some inexplicable reason pfft

and of course these can’t top the original broadway versions, nor did i expect them to. also sometimes the production or mixing was either bland or off (like in world burn reneé’s vocals are a second or two behind the backing track at one point, which is super weird since it’s fine in the soundtrack but i digress lmao)

cast/characters:

the cast have great chemistry they’re all so talented they’re so fucking funny aghh the casting was perfect

reneé as regina made me gayer somehow. Not surprised there

AVANTIKA. she was soso perfect as karen!! so funny so insanely pretty and she did sexy so much justice

okay admittedly i was a little unsure about angourie as cady. only at first though because once she became part of the plastics she played that role so well

speaking of cady that scene when regina’s singing in the cafeteria and cady’s staring at her is actually the gayest thing i’ve ever seen hands down

ms. norbury & mr. duvall are in a relationship. they have dogs at home. janis said (jokingly) that they got wasted at the spring fling. they are My straight couple i love them so fucking much

ough the bond between cady and her mom is so sweet and even emotional at one point i really like it

the band always seeming to be around and playing is so good especially when they’re in the tree in that one scene lol

i knew lindsay lohan would be there somehow and her being the proctor for the math competition was golden. (also her lines like “this has only happened once more”<-referencing the original movie & then the “i don’t know your life” to cady were SOOO)

miscellaneous:

so happy some of the jokes and moments from the musical were in the movie. like “homeschooled? oh that’s a fun way to take jobs from my union!” & mr. duvall’s retainer case & the bathroom scene with cady & regina lol

i was thinking they’d go overboard with the social media aspect (like a lot of media typically tends to do when making a movie like this) but i was pleasantly surprised! yes it was definitely a large part of many scenes but i think it mostly worked & made sense. but then again this is tina fey so she knows what she’s doing lmao

it’s best to not have any expectations when walking into this movie; nothing too high, nothing too low. i probably like it more than the average person as i’ve always loved the broadway musical but still. if you want to see it i say go for it! it has a great cast, songs that range from bland & perfectly serviceable to great with exceptional vocals (coughs. Reneé), and some nice references and moments for fans of the original movie, the musical, or both. it was fun time and i could tell there was heart put into it🫶

Okay. I do not normally, do this, as everyone has their own takes and that is usually fine, I go out of my way to avoid the sort of takes that make me actively angry, but- I’m not even angry about this one, I just think it’s hilarious.

Like, someone in the tag (to avoid shaming this person I will not name them here) just described Izzy as ‘good at reading emotions, big picture stuff, deferred gratification, etc’.

Like...honey. Sweetheart. My sibling in Hades. Where the fuck are you getting that one from?

Like, Izzy’s utter lack of emotional awareness or ability to read people is one of his defining character traits. Like...this is the guy who cannot comprehend Ed’s mental state when Ed is standing right in front of him going ‘I am so bored that even death sounds like a welcome reprieve from the grind my life has become’. Who takes fully two weeks to realise that maybe, just maybe, Ed doesn’t want to kill the guy he’s been making heart-eyes at since they got on the ship. Who doesn’t notice the brewing mutiny right under his nose until he is literally tied to the anchor and about to be thrown overboard.

Izzy is terrible at reading or understanding emotions and that is...kind of his thing.

For that matter, ‘big-picture stuff’?

Izzy is...not great at that, either. If he were, he’d...probably have caught on that there’s a reason why Blackbeard is asking him about clouds. While they are on a sailing ship. Being able to read the weather and tides is...kind of an important skill for a tall-ship sailor, and Ed is clearly frustrated that Izzy isn’t getting it. That line about how ‘it’s like pulling teeth with you sometimes’ is a pretty clear indication that this is a conversation they’ve had before. Someone who was good at big-picture thinking might step back and go ‘okay, why are you telling me this’. Someone who was good at sailing (there is no way Buttons would’ve missed it) would’ve gone ‘oh. Fog’s coming in, then.’

But even putting that instance of it aside...Izzy is sort of locked in his own head. Most of us are to some extent, but Izzy is really bad at seeing things outside his own worldview. Like, from a big-picture perspective, putting the guy whose one real job aboard ship is being literate on various jobs of gruelling make-work (literally none of the tasks Izzy assigns to Lucius are a) urgent or b) even really within the realm of normal shipboard maintenance, as many other metas have pointed out) all of which are hard on the hands is putting his own petty satisfaction above the smooth running of the ship. Likewise, you can see it in his decision to starve the crew for making smart remarks at him when...he doesn’t actually have that big a crew and having people too weak to work is also going to undermine the running of the ship. Hell, calling in the British Navy on fellow pirates is itself quite a short-sighted decision, not least because there is absolutely nothing stopping the Navy from going ‘right, thanks for your service, you will be rewarded...as a traitor deserves, hang the lot of them from the yardarm’. Yes, okay, that is not what happened, because this is a romcom, but there was literally nothing stopping it, and colonial powers are not known for playing nicely with...basically anyone in a weaker position than them.

Again and again, Izzy puts his own pettiness ahead of and above the larger picture of ‘we are all on a ship at sea and need to be able to work together in order to keep that ship running’. Hell, it’s even arguably part of what loses him both his confrontations with Stede, as he gets distracted by minor annoyances (and, admittedly, his own absolute contempt for anyone who doesn’t fit his model of martial masculinity) and thus fails to see the trap until it snaps shut on him.

And finally, ‘deferred gratification’. We have less evidence of this being nonsense than the other two, but I would point out that...okay, if Izzy believes that the plan is genuinely ‘Blackbeard learns everything he can from Bonnet to enable him to kill Bonnet, take over Bonnet’s life and sail away into the sunset, leaving me the captaincy’...a fortnight is an insane timetable for that. Even putting aside the fact that I don’t think Izzy was at all keen on the ‘Blackbeard retires to a life of luxury ashore and I take over as captain’ part of the plan...the point I am making here is, Izzy doesn’t care either way. What he wants is Stede Bonnet dead, and he wants it now.

So...yeah. I honestly think this is the funniest Bad Take in the fandom so far, just because it flies so much in the face of everything we get to see about Izzy. And...honestly, I’m not sure who even makes this argument? Like- Izzy is a petty, small-minded martinet with the emotional intelligence of a bent and rusty fork and absolutely no ability to consider any perspective but his own. That’s what makes him funny.

Casey was already kind of open and affection as he was. He didn't have an issue leaning up against Raph or drapping an arm over his shoulders to tug him back in a sort of hug. Constant games of wrestling given any chance. That was all fine and okay for the both of them, enough to say I like you without going to overboard. Casey cause of nit being all that comfortable being out of the figurative closet humans phased sexuaity as. As for Raph? Well, he wasn't great with emotions unless it was anger, shell he bearly liked showing fear as is. So these small little gestures were fine by him.

It's when they were alone that things took a turn. Away from prying eyes, they would be far closer to one another. Curled up in Raphs hammock or relaxing at Casey's place. One would think Raph was more open as well, and why not? He talked a big game after all when he expressed intrested in the past. Truth couldn't be any further, though. Raph calmed up more if anything. When the initmancty came up? he wasn't against it he always moved into Casey's touch, returned kisses, and sometimes initiated even. Still did t mean he was good with it. He hated how easily worn down he got.

Like now, as they were simply relaxed on the couch of Casey's place. Raph slowly eased to lie back. Face felt like it was burning red right now. So easily Casey could get him under him like this. One might think Raph would hate it what with his whole top dog mentality, nah. Raph was pretty open about admiring how attracted to Casey he was. One of many he used the whole phase of 'I could take them' towads Casey. More than once, yeah, no wonder people were sure something was between them. which was exactly why he did generally enjoy Casey's affection. There was just a major ego boost to the turtle, knowing this big board, well built, human would just get all over him. First chance given.

A bit too much of one as Raoh couldn't fully focus on the enjoyment. He could feel that tingle in his thoart right now. Doing his best to keep it at bay. But it was starting to lowly rumble out, Raph just growled in against Casey's lips to try and cover it. Seeming to get Casey's attention only for Raph to bite on their bottom lip. Sliently telling Casey not to lose focus here. Just cause he got a lot of enjoyment out of Casey's attention, didn't mean he was about to make it known! When that sound started up again, he was quick to use the fact he had Casey's lip between his teeth he went to slip his tongue into Casey's mouth. If he kept his mouth busy, he assumed he couldn't make that sound. It was bad enough they called him a pillow princess before. He would never hear the end of it if he made that sound over kissing alone.

He let himself relax again, fishing out Casey's tongue. A moan was fine. If they slipped out, he could live with that. Until he felt that tingle again, so he took hold of the back of Casey's head. Gripping a good chunk of those dark long locks, sucking on their tongue feverishly now. Both from want growing g and the desperate losing battle to not fucking make that noise! If he moaned that was one thing but God damn if he fucking churred out like a fucking kitten because of Casey!

It worked out from his gut, unable to keep it back anymore, a low soft 'purr'. Rolled out from his plastron. Working up slowly through his throat and escape his beak near echoing into Casey's mouth. Raph pulling back from Vasey letting it head fall back.

"Oh fuckin" he growled out to himself pissed off as he kept swearing under his breath now. Look the sexual attraction was fine! It was this he had an issue with all that warm fuzzy feeling Casey made him feel. It made it...it this all too real. That softly warm glow Casey seemed to give to Raphael. How he felt like he was floating on air. He fucking couldn't deal with all of that! Face was painting a nice shade of red, mostly from embarrassment. He could feel the ends of Casey hair slightly tickle his face as they hung above the turtle now. And of course he saw that fucking smug grin looming over him now.

"I swear aye knee ya if you fuckin' say anything." Casey didn't need to that look was enough Raph turned his head to the side trying to look anywhere that wasn't Casey's way. Whe. They started to press warm, firm lips to his face. A kiss to his cheek, to his temple. Raph went and moved his head a bit but like always Casey followed another. Taking hold of him so Raph couldn't escape so to speak. As another kiss was placed to his forhead, his snout. Another roll of a churr worked out from his thoart as Casey kept doing it. Raph letting his face scrunch up in annoyance.

Yet not once did he tell them to stop, idly petting over the back of his head sleintly telling Casey to keep going. Soaking it in, it was so rare to get this. He can't blame Casey after. Raph sucked as a boyfriend because he often ran from this. Raph told himself he was doing this for Casey. Letting them let out that affection they had to hold back. But as his churrs bubbled up louder, it was clear he was strayed for it just as much.

I don't always agree with Nerdrotic, he can tend to just hate things instantly but I have been monitoring how works in Hollywood are going lately and this pretty much tracks from following reports I've heard. This D.E.I mess is getting out of hand. It should be a choice to include diversity in your works, not an obligation, and you sure as heck shouldn't be hired just based solely on your skin color, gender and sexuality.

Yes it nice you wanna give others a fair shake, but extremely unwise to shun writers with plenty of experience with people who've yet to prove themselves. Theres a reason writers use a round-robin system for this. Plus like Tyrone said, this is feeling very smothering to boot. In fact, I told a friend of mine it reminded me of that old South Park ep with Nurse Gollum where the town tried to celebrate her, but got the point of being very uncomfortable with it since they keep focusing on the dead fetus on her head that she eventually told them off when she couldn't take it anymore. This feels very similar but on a larger scale. Wanting to be sympathetic but eventually going overboard. Goes without saying, but people want to be entertained, not lectured.

And these practices feel so...cartoony it 's hard to believe. I legit fell ill at the part of "not reading the source material to make something for modern audiences". Okay just ALL THE NO on that. I don't mind a different interpretation but you do your work a disservice by not at least getting a grasp on what the story or how a character should be portrayed, if nothing else to at least give you a general idea TO make it your own. Yes going blind can work sometime, but that's a very narrow 50/50 chance. Heck I want to do a version of Dracula down the line for a comic that'll be different from the source material. It'll make some changes, but it'll still respect what came before and use what was written to expand on certain things. The main reason being graphic novels have done the comic justice so that can afford a different interpretation. But otherwise the story will still be similar AND respectful to the source. And I will have the novel on hand to help that along the way.

From what I'm hearing these idiots act all proud became "Oh it was my version and not what came before". People would KILL for the chance to do a film or TV adaptation of certain works and these people are squandering it for fanfic versions of these stories without even knowing the full context when they could make timeless definitive versions. Hey fun fact, did you know the director of the second Star Trek movie didn't know a thing about the franchise going in? You know what he did, WATCHED THE SERIES OVER A WEEKEND TO GET AN IDEA FOR THE CHARACTERS! And what happened? One of the best Star Trek films in the franchise. So no that is nothing to be proud of, its just laziness.

And then there's this "Male and Pale is Stale" creed. I was taught to just make good characters in general regardless of gender. But this is what they're peddling to potential writers these days (at the time of this writing)? Why? No one was oppressing anyone up to this point concerning that, if anything it's healthy to have variety on both genders (hell even moreso with non-binaries) take the lead. But these social media nuts (particularly around Twitter) decided we need more of an influx of females and ethnicities all of a sudden? Also ignoring that many people are still white skin regardless of nationality making that ceed extra stupid. I don't get it, we had a good thing before that was balanced and focused with your own choice how the character should be, now it just this messy blob of forced templates that can't tell its left from its right and the stories and characters suffer because of it. It's just frustrating to view.

Again I'm not against diversity but I'm not foreign to it either, I grew up on plenty of shows that had it and did it in a much more tactful and graceful way that was by the creator design, not forced, and were still very entertaining. That era had plenty of fairness to it, so I don't know why that same curtesy can't be used for today. If it's to right some slight in the past, then sure but there's the saying "Two wrongs don't make a right". From where I'm seeing in this current age, the so called "oppressed" have become the the oppressors themselves and don't even realize it and media is suffering for it. And as a creative myself who would love to get his work to that mainstream someday, that's just disappointing to see.

my drama story, read if you are curious. it has best friend drama, some curse words. if you do take out time to read this, please let me know what you think.

i recently fought with my best friend. a childhood friend who i’d recently gotten very very close to. we’d talk about the weirdest stuff, make pacts to be with each other forever, yk that kind of stuff. and then this guy came in. at the time, he was new in my life, and i sort of liked him. but quickly i got over it, finding us not a good match, him being much older than me, completely different to me ie very social, and kind of arrogant. but my best friend, desperate to get me some action and out of this 18 yr dry spell i’ve been in, tried to get me to get with him. stuff progressed and we both never talked about it again, as this guy became very good friends with both of us. at some point, her more than me.

i now realise, he brought in a lot of fights between me and my bsf. the center of it might be that, even though we agreed not to let boys come between us, we somehow let this entitled boy wedge himself into us. slowly i saw the progress of their friendship from casual to joined-at-the-hip. seriously they are inseparable, despite the millions of fights they have. she said to me at one point that they are the same person and thus if they were to date, it would never work out, both being stubborn bitches. now this is important, it comes up again. every issue they do not agree on, escalates into intense arguments that end up with her crying sometimes, and then they “make up” and continue as normal. this is not normal!?

i also now realise that i was scared of them getting closer to each other than they are to me, the whole time we were friends. i was afraid of being phased out of both of their lives.

her parents are very strict. they are restraining, controlling, manipulative and almost abusive. we tried so so hard to hide this boy from them, because it would wreak HAVOC in her house, if her parents were to find out. somehow they eventually got to know, and started asking invasive questions about them, if they’re dating, not to hang around too much, etc. this was annoying to her, understandably, and she would vent about every single thing to me. they recently suspected even more that these two must be dating, so they doubled down on their THREATS to her, to not fall in love with this boy, actually threatening her with harm. i am fucking disgusted by them. they cornered me, telling me to protect their daughter and not let her fall for him. and i said they have nothing to worry about because i was assured by my bsf that there was nothing between them. and this hurts even more because…..

about three weeks ago, my bsf called me to hang out. i was like yeah, sure.. she comes up running when i open the door (she lives on the floor about me) so i ask her where she came from. she mumbles something about don’t ask, something fell down, whatever. we hung out for more than an hour, all the while i’m wondering how she’s so chill since usually she’s just RUNNING to meet this guy. slowly she says let’s go meet him. so we go, and this motherfucker acts so sad when he hears that i have to go somewhere, so we won’t hang out for long, and he pretends like he doesn’t like the fact that we don’t hang out much. everytime i think back on this, it fills me with so much anger. they played me for a fool.

while i was going out, her mom and my mom who were on a walk saw them both on a bike together and all hell was unleashed. the second we got home, all the “talking” ensued about how it doesn’t look nice to roam around with boys and how much older he is to us, it’s weird, etc. got a nice scolding. my mom was chill, she always is, we talked it out. but my bsf. obv her dearest parents went overboard, threats again. she called me over and i went and we talked. after. her fucking mom says all the things she has a problem with, boys, blah blah, and THEN she says her dearest daughter has been out since 4. FOUR. she came over at 6.30. just as i was about to say that not true, the fucking look this girl gives me shuts me up. then she tells me to go, and i thought she was trying to rescue me from her mom but nooooo it was actually to protect herself.

i get a text from both of them saying that they had actually hung out before they came to meet me and pretended to see each other for the first time. i was soo mad. and hurt. suddenly all my insecurities come rushing back to me. they didn’t wanna hang out with me, i was just an extra in this “trio”. i didn’t talk to them properly after that.

couple of weeks after that, even more news unfolded. they tried to tell me how much i mean to them before telling me something. even then i could tell whatever this is is gonna destroy us because they were laying it on thick. they tell me they’ve been “fooling around” with each other FOR MONTHS. i explode. like full on start bawling. i don’t know why i cried. i’m embarrassed about it now. but ig months of insecurities and feeling like i was a third wheel even though i didn’t know about them, finally came to the conclusion that my fears were true. i absolutely fell apart. she tried to console me, telling me that whatever this was was nothing in front of our relationship and that she would do anything to fix this. but i don’t feel like actually gets how much she’s hurt me. i asked her why she didn’t just tell me, and they go into a bunch of excuses like they didn’t want to put me in a difficult position with her parents, they wanted to get what they had going on straight before they told me, blah blah blah. such bs reasons. she later tells me, she knew i would try to talk her out of this thing and she didn’t want to stop seeing him, she knew it probably wasn’t right but she wanted it to go on. she wanted to have “experiences”. she couldn’t bear it if i had torn it apart.

i don’t even know why i’m this hurt, if i even have the right to be this hurt about it. i don’t know what i have to do about this, it’s a thing between them. but they are my friends. they’ve made me feel like a third wheel, a second choice. they’ve made me question my ability to connect with people, because everyone around me is so so so close with each other, and all i seem to have are casual friends. they’ve lied to me. they’ve made me feel shitty, awful, worthless, lonely. they’ve made me feel so lonely.

if they could’ve kept it in their pants, we could’ve had so many things. we would’ve been such a good friend group. but no. maybe that’s what i’m mad about. i agree that i probably would have been mad even if they had told me at the beginning. but it wouldn’t have completely RUINED us. i would’ve eventually come around. i would have. i am an inherently understanding person. yes i would’ve tried to talk her out of this fucking disaster of a situation-ship, but i believe had she told me to mind my own business and let her make mistakes i would have backed off. i swear.

i was so hurt, that i tried to cut them off. the boy hasnt talked to me since but my best friend. she tried to give me “space and time” and it pissed me off, because i shouldn’t be the only one to reflect on this, i wanted her to think about her actions. anyway, after time had passed, she was right, it had lessened my hatred for them. and now i understand them wanting to be with each other. they got really close and connected with each other on a lot of things, like i said they’re very similar. she said she felt very shitty in her life, and she enjoyed spending time with him, and so she went ahead with whatever this thing was. okay. i understand. but it doesn’t excuse how they’ve treated me. like a extra for each other. i haven’t felt like an equal friend, and that’s not ok with me.

anyway i just need some other perspectives on this matter. someone tell me how i should feel. tell me if i’m the one who’s wrong and out of my lane in this. or am i valid. i just want someone to talk to me, cuz i’ve lost the two people i could’ve talked to.

You coddle and adore him, yet you’re stern when he goes overboard. You nag him to study, and you carefully brush through the tangles in his hair, you fix the tears in his favorite outfits, you bought him that candle he was looking for...

His heart is so full, he can’t keep his hands off of you! Marry him, MC! Give him a kiss! Jokes aside, it's making him feel all giddy, even when you scold him for trying to start a party in study hall.

Really though, you're managing to tame one of the wildest brothers, and that's a feat in itself! Try not to let him take advantage of that-

Beel

He noticed how caring you were right away, and BOI did it make him happy. Beel seems naturally drawn to you, because of your gentle nature and the way you somehow get everyone into line.

They’re happier lately because of you, and he loves it. Even Mammon’s scummy behavior has improved!

But what REALLY gets him are your homecooked meals. They carry that comfort food feel, and he can taste the love in every single bite. It’s so good, it’ll make a grown man cry...

You still scold him when he breaks into the fridge or leaves crumbs everywhere, and he actually feels bad for it 😔 Sorry mom....

Now he usually goes to you for help before he'll go to anyone else. Sometimes he prefers you over Belphie... sometimes. It's not that obvious, but he's definitely become clingy.

Belphie

This brat could use all the gotdamn help in the world, but luckily you seem to have the tolerance of a saint.

His sleeping habits can’t really be helped, but you know he can do better about taking care of himself!

He’s annoying about it and asks you to do it for him. Brush his teeth please. Can you make his bed? Hey, have you seen his pillow? Let him use your lap-

Naturally drawn to you, too, like his bastard soul knows he needs a parental figure to set him straight. Does his best to have you spoil him, but usually falls flat

And when you scold him? He tries to ignore you like he does with Lucifer, but something about your lectures hits different.. Especially when you whip out the “I’m not mad, just disappointed”. He'll linger around and try to do little chores to get your attention, and forgiveness.
