Holy shit. I anticipated some tragic backstory from the "I must feed the young ones" panels, but what I'd guessed was that Senshi might have become so devoted to cooking and eating literally whatever because he'd previously survived a famine and had seen children starve to death. I did not expect him to have been the child who was the sole survivor of a doomed travel party, one of whom was determined to feed Senshi first because he was the youngest, and that Senshi has lived with the fear of having inadvertently committed cannibalism by eating stew that he'd never quite known the contents of. I'm happy for him that Laios deduced and confirmed for him that it was griffin meat, that he was able to taste the meal that saved his life once more and remember the friends he lost. Seriously, I'm crying, and also earnestly relieved that while his backstory is pretty dark, it's not the type of fucked up I'd been preparing myself mentally for.

Trying to piece together the miscommunication between Link and Normal where they both think the other doesn't know what they want and I think it's that the level of results they're each looking for is different. Link wants to know what to do from moment to moment and every decision in each moment is backed by "which option gets fewer people hurt or killed." Whereas Normal isn't looking for a moment-to-moment goal, he's looking for a long term goal of helping the Doodler, and so what that looks like from moment to moment isn't always going to look the same.

So like, the moment with the pick. To Link, Normal is the one who doesn't know what to do because Normal doesn't know what to do in that moment to resolve the anchor, while Link takes a quick action. But from Normal's point of view it looks like Link has no idea what he's doing because his actions had no thought towards the ongoing Doodler problem.

The Kitakami dlc kiiinda had me thinking about Bruno and specifically his relationship to the Great Marsh volunteers because I kinda took the "ogre scorpion" classification and ran with it. (The Great Marsh workers are also hands off when it comes to the Pokemon and the marsh itself, they will step in if they fear that one of the species in there is endangered, or if there's a serious injury, but it's not under constant surveillance) And here's what I was thinking: he's actually not allowed to be caught or interacted with by trainers for the following reasons.

1. There aren't a ton of alpha pokemon in the wild anymore, not as many as there were in Hisuian times. Bruno came as a surprise to the workers since he didn't exactly have a predecessor, so they're in contact with some professors to study his behavior and keep him in the wild.

2. He's considered to be very dangerous. He's a nice guy really and Dusk and the Skorupi and his kids really saw that side of him the most, but he goes into Wild Might mode when he feels his group is threatened and won't hold back. Wouldn't be surprised if he's maimed a few pushier trainers who tried to force him or one of his unwilling Skorupi to leave with them. (He actually nearly did this to Dusk's trainer before she got the hell out of there, because she'd sneaked Dusk in there and was trying to use her to fight and weaken the wild Pokemon as usual. One hell of a meet-cute) So they actually do sorta treat him as an ogre to trainers playing the safari game, and made those signs like you see in the Shrek movies with his face on it to keep trainers out of his hideout.

Every now and then a post floats through the local reddit page with someone asking about any dnd groups that need an extra player, and all I can think is damn - must be nice to have that kind of confidence in your social status. Like, I got supremely lucky with my ND, queer DM who runs on kindness before anything else. There is NOTHING about making a generic post looking for a DM that appeals to anyone with a shred of marginalization, I feel. Not just any game will do. Are they gonna put transphobia in their world? What are their rules about what they will and won’t depict? Do they run games in good faith or are they here to power trip over a bunch of other people who can’t find a better game or don’t know to ask for better? Are they going to randomly spring questions on me because I didn’t look like I was paying enough attention, like it’s middle school or something? And all of that is before you even touch the factor of joining an established group.

I just marvel at the social comfort it takes to go on reddit of all places and ask to be picked up by anyone who could use a player. Must be nice.
