#ice cream (particularly odd and seasonal flavors)

While the trick-or-treating comic was very cute, I cannot imagine Vasco not being a little treat kinda guy
Are you telling me he doesn't randomly buy himself candy just for the dopamine and the child-like joy? That he doesn't indulge on halloween spirit and buy spooky candy just for him and Machete?? (who barely eats it but halloween spirit comes first, practically second)
.
#I actually thought about that for quite a while before choosing to go with a simple and neutral soda can#because yes I do think Vasco is a little treat kinda guy#but the treats he goes for probably aren't straight up candy#he's into hot chocolate and sweet coffee drinks#ice cream (particularly odd and seasonal flavors)#pastries and desserts probably#I can see him being a nutella enjoyer#and if he buys actual sweets I think he'd go for chocolate bars#(not like mars bars but thin flat sheets of chocolate that you break into smaller pieces)#(do those have a specific name in english or are they both just chocolate bars?)#none of the above are very easy to share unexpectedly with unfamiliar children#like I said in majority of Europe halloween isn't widely/officially celebrated and trick-or-treating isn't customary#families with young children teens and young adults might do halloween activities on smaller scale#but a childless couple in their thirties (and living in an apartment) is unlikely to have halloween candy in reserve methinks#Machete doesn't eat that many sugary things regularly#if Vasco is having something he probably goes along with it#but his health anxiety kind of affects what foods he deems acceptable and which ones should be avoided#which is ironic because modern Machete has a history of stress smoking#as a habit that's quite a bit worse for you than having an occasional ice cream sundae#I think he managed to quit when their relationship turned serious#answered#anonymous#modern au

Do you have any food preference HCs? Like I think Craig would be a very picky eater, wouldn't like much seasoning, etc. Kraft mac n' cheese, chicken nuggets, and pb&j sandwiches are his best friend. Was curious if you have any ideas like that about him or the other characters bc I've been loving reading your HCs so far :)
hmm,,, i have a coffee preference post here regarding stan and kyle, but here are some other hcs i have (:
Kenny:
he has a very diverse pallet. he likes just about any food you give him unless its like, boiled unseasoned potatoes, but he'll still eat it. not particularly picky, but he does have preference for spicier foods or anything with loud and/or complex flavor profiles. he loves flavor bombs!
Cartman:
sweets and savory all the way. hes a southern comfort food enjoyer and a fructose fiend. everything from fried chicken, shepards pie, and ham to ice cream, and blackberry cobbler is on his wishlist. hes mildly picky in that hes not a fan of middle eastern or mediterranean food or things that are "out of his comfort zone." but he's still a big spice eater and loves mexican food in particular.
Kyle:
he was raised to not be picky because it's considered rude, but he's pretty picky in nature so he just learned to get around it. has some sensory issues regarding some cooking styles of vegetables and texture stuff. cant do cooked celery or onion because of the texture unless its finely minced, pureed, or powdered. not a fan of fish because he ate so much of it growing up, and because his mom would make these salmon patties that had would have bones in them so now any time he eats salmon or any fish he feels the need to vomit. (these are real btw. my family and many others made them. they had bones that you were supposed to just eat because they were crunchy enough to do so. nightmarish food istg.)
he also goes kosher in middle school when he connects more with his faith so... no more denny's bacon specials lmao.
Stan:
definitely more picky then the other four when it comes to flavor. doesn't like spicy foods and hates the texture of onions so he has to use minced, pureed, or powdered in recipes. he has the cilantro gene which makes visits to kyle's family for dinner pretty embarrassing. he doesn't like to make a big deal about it but he HAS to tell ms broflovski because if something even has a whiff of cilantro the entire meal tastes like soap and stink bug chemicals. sheila is very understanding of this and doesn't mind too much because the flavor of cilantro can be easily replicated with other herbs/spices. also has a huge vendetta against celery. it does NOT just "taste green" kyle, it's WEIRD and SHARP and the cooked texture is GROSS! hates steamed broccoli but tries to get over that in high school by eating it in frozen meals to get accustomed to it. not a big fan of things that are too sweet. sweets are best when they're just sweet enough to be yummy but not overpowering or super rich. the only "rich" sweet he likes is chocolate torte, and ONLY with black coffee to balance it out and it HAS to be in small alternating bites: like bite of torte, sip of coffee, bite of torte, sip of coffee, and so on.
Craig:
very restricted diet that sticks mostly to bland safe foods. every day for lunch he eats one of those uncrustable pb&js or honey and peanut butter. surprisingly a lot of his safe foods are vegetables of some sort because he ate them a lot as a little kid so hes accustomed to them and they feel "fresher" than other foods that can be overstimulating. they cant be cooked though, only raw. so he loves those veggie platters. broccoli is crossing the line a bit for him though because of the odd texture, so that's iffy for him. carrot sticks, celery, and ice berg lettuce are great though. some other non-veggie safe foods are white meat chicken or turkey, and instant mashed potatoes. he cant do normal mashed potatoes because they taste almost... smotheringly starchy?? the same with baked potatoes. but instant Idahoan brand instant mashed potatoes are lighter and smoother with a different taste. he can do cooked green beans as long as they still taste green and weren't cooked in a broth/grease of any sort, but he cant do peas because they're too mushy and weird.

Perhaps people would find it strange, but Corey enjoyed the fact that barely anyone had seen him in the Town Center during the Founders’ Day Faire. He had a cup of ice cream, the first of the season, finally the weather improving just enough for the frozen flavors to not bother him. So he enjoyed it in full, just walking around the Faire grounds, people-watching. A familiar face here and there was spotted. Some noticed him and some did not, some he’d exchanged a word or two with, some he didn’t bother pestering on their fun day out. In the end, he clocked out early, like the old man he was, slipping away among the first few people who had elsewhere to be and couldn’t stay until the end.
He avoided any crowds, he avoided any commotion, he even missed the usual traffic jam common for around this time on the streets and on the way to his home in Dillon. When he got home, he could continue on with his routine. He had a meal, leftovers from yesterday’s lunch, had a cup of tea, had a shower. He vacuumed. He cleared out Bob’s outdoor aviary. The large raven with the wingspan of almost four feet greeted him with an imitation of a few eerily human-like sounds as per usual. Though Corey did find it odd that Bob wasn’t as talkative as he could usually be. He watched a show. Someone recommended to him to watch Vikings. He wasn’t feeling it, but since he hated not finishing what he'd started, he would suffer through all seasons. Maybe it would improve. He really should’ve known, the show was called ‘Vikings’ after all. But he secretly hoped that it was a history-heavy show after all. It wasn’t really.
He went to bed early, none the wiser, not turning the TV on for the news today. In the morning he got up with the roosters, showered again, had breakfast and another cup of dark tea. He fed Marlowe, the elegant gray Norwegian forest cat who wasn’t feeling particularly chatty with him either, another oddity he didn’t think much on. He went to work and only there, upon noticing that a few of the staff had called in and wouldn’t make an appearance for their scheduled shifts, did the news of the previous day surprise him. Everyone at the clinic and shelter had their own version and experience of yesterday to tell, and they did so at every corner and in every room at the clinic - the place was practically buzzing with all the stuff Corey had missed. And all Corey could think about was how he didn’t know what to think of it.

Espresso has Become a Relentless Power all Throughout the Planet.
Tumblr media
In excess of 2 billion cups of espresso are tanked each day across the globe – affirms that it's a beverage, however the soul for some individuals, and living without it would be incomprehensible. http://reviewmycoffee.com/
Presently it's an entirely different world with its own fragrance, flavors, and celebrations, which have taken perpetual residency in our lives.
In case you're another individual from its high roads, you may be mistaken for the language of the espresso menu and asking yourself, what the heck is macchiato? Would it be a good idea for me to arrange this beverage with luxurious finished froth? Will the barista believe, I'm a weakling on the off chance that I request a beverage with loads of milk?
Take a full breath; in this guide, I've laid out practically each one of those beverages you find at your neighborhood caffé menu, so in the future you'll realize what to arrange – and anticipate.
Essential Coffee Drinks
Dark Coffee
Dark espresso resembles a delightful dark dress in the drinks world. From easy to refined, it goes including ports transportation to rooms, polytechnic to humble community coffee shops, American cowpokes to French Press models. It's an ageless work of art – so regardless of whether you're attempting to beat the odds, you can in any case have a cup of joe prior to taking off to the drives. Essentially heat up some water and add espresso (beans, grounds, or leaves) to it. Refine cautiously – and you're prepared to grip fingers around your ideal cup of caffeine. No seasoning, it'll knock your socks off! On the off chance that you see it interestingly, you may think it tastes severe or ashy, yes it likely does. Yet, the normal pleasantness and other flavor ascribes are interesting to this beverage.
Besides, you may discover numerous valid justifications to drink dark espresso, however the medical advantage of eliminating dairy and sugar will likely start your longing to find out about the flavor subtleties of dark espresso.
However, in the event that it's consuming your tongue or your taste buds aren't tolerating its taste, you can add the cream or milk and sugar or fake sugar to change the blessing to coordinate with it to your style.
Ultimately, it will not damage your wallet as you'll as a rule discover it as the similarly least expensive alternative in the greater part of the caffé menus.  Learn more
Turkish Coffee
With regards to espresso, Turkish espresso aficionados love to cite;
Despite the fact that bistros offering coffees, level whites, and cappuccinos have gotten mainstream in Istanbul, still, Turkish Coffee is a critical piece of their way of life and an ideal expansion to any profound discussion with loved ones.
Turkish espresso culture and custom have the UNESCO World Heritage status due to their exceptional planning and preparing strategy. In this way, regardless of whether you haven't went to Turkey ever, you presumably heard the reference or even attempted it.
However, on the off chance that you don't have a clue, when you'll allude the nose-ringed barista about "Turkish Coffee," more often than not, it implies you're requesting a thick, dark espresso.
In any case, in the event that you need to give it a shot at your home, it will not expect you to have any unique barista abilities to make a serious mug of java.
Here is the breakdown of steps:
Essentially bubble one cup of water alongside two tablespoons of coffee beans in a cezve, a little pot with a long handle, generally made of copper – it's otherwise called ibriks.
Since sugar is never added, you'll need to indicate the amount you need to add. You can get it with no sugar, one sugar 3D shape for semi-pleasantness, or two 3D squares for sweet Turkish espresso.
As the espresso arrives at the bubble, let the froth rise and eliminate it from heat before it's going to spill. This ensures your espresso will have full froth, and without it, it's absolutely unsatisfactory.
You can rehash the third step a few times.
Serve it in a little cup; it never implies it's to be burned-through rapidly; taste a bit, converse with your buddies and rehash.
Cold Brew
It's something other than the cool, it gives you caffeine-taste of frosted espresso. Begun from store coffeehouses, it could have its spot on the Caffe menus of major groups like Starbucks and Peets.
The flavor is one of those small bunch of reasons why Cold Brew detonated throughout the most recent couple of years, and with the primary taste, you may think why individuals didn't cold blending espresso a very long time prior.
It's most likely going to be your best-cherished beverage If you're a devotee of a smooth, offset mug of espresso with low causticity, covered with a rich body.
You will not need to ask your organs to co-work for this beverage, It's essentially distress free in any event, for a fretfully unfilled stomach.
Basically, in case you're delicate to corrosiveness, Cold Brew is your lifeline.
Weaken the concentrate with milk, and you'll have your frosted latte prepared to taste. Or on the other hand, blend the move in with your soul of decision, and you'll have another form of Cold Brew (charged mixed drink) prepared to chug; it's so delectable!
All in all, what I mean? Flavor prospects are perpetual with Cold Brew!
Frosted Coffee
Stand by! Cold Brew isn't the Iced Coffee?
Frosted espresso can be any type of espresso – trickle, pour-over and even coffee. However, chilly brew is a particular style of frosted espresso or a frosted espresso method. One isn't superior to other people; they are made diversely and have unmistakable preferences.
At the point when you ask the barista for a virus brew espresso at a café or bistro, you'll be given out a mug of java delicately blended with frosted shapes.
Its approach is essentially the immediate openness of cold water with espresso beans for around 12-16 hours to guarantee the best and tasty experience of cold mix. When the soaking closes, the concentrated fluid is blended in with water to make you a solid and delish cup of cold brew.
Then again, when you'll arrange a frosted espresso, frequently you'll be presented with a hot espresso poured over ice, yet it tastes excessively weakened so the vast majority of the java consumers currently incline toward espresso fermented at twofold strength (by utilizing the twofold measure of espresso), however it can likewise be the trickle espresso that is administered straight ridiculous precious stones or chilled in the cooler and presto Reviewmycoffee.com  !
You'll see a lot of frosted espresso fortes in a large portion of the cafés as it doesn't require some investment to mix one cup, you point your finger at the bill of admission.
Assortment of Espresso Based Drinks
Coffee is the foundation of a variety of mouth-watering juiced drinks.
In case you're new to the espresso world, you most likely noticed the java sweethearts mentioning the talented barista for "single-shot" or "twofold shot." at the end of the day, they were really requesting the little focused punch of each one of those normal cancer prevention agents in a delectable bundle – the coffee.
All in all, for what reason do individuals cherish coffee? You can't deny the spirit contacting fragrance of newly preparing shot, its taste, gigantic jolt of energy, less caffeine per ounce, crema besting, and above all, the punch of many medical advantages in each taste.
The greater part of the delectable strengths create from coffee, and that is the reason they are ruling most of space on the menu. It's the type of substance of each latte, cappuccino, and a lot of different varieties – mocha or level white, we can't get enough.
In any case, before jump into the ocean of coffee drinks, you simply need to know how master baristas create fulfilling coffee shots to make your most appropriate mug of java.
The interaction includes delivering a concentrated fluid by constraining the water at an ideal temperature (190 to 196 degrees Fahrenheit) and pressing factor (normally 9 to 15 bars) for 18 to 20 seconds through entirely fine espresso beans.
An appropriately extricated shot looks delectably smooth, covered with a smooth crema and an extraordinary fragrance. With the main taste, you'll surely fall in ceaseless love with this cup of joe.
How about we discover how baristas all throughout the planet utilize this Italian designed marvel to make those delish claims to fame that sparkle like stars on the cafeteria menu.
Ristretto
"Confined" or "restricted" in Italian methods, it's basically the primary portion of a full coffee shot while utilizing a similar measure of espresso beans. Connoisseur espresso aficionados regularly incline toward ristretto as it gives you a sheer quality alongside the rich and fragrant kind of espresso beans.
Try not to be messed with "close to nothing"; this fun-size shot is loaded with a particularly incredible punch.
A solitary ristretto shot ought to be 15 ml, while 30 ml for a twofold shot.
Doppio
In Italian "doppio" signifies "twofold," it implies you need twofold shots of coffee. It's separated utilizing a twofold espresso channel in the portafilter so you get 60 ml of coffee served in a demitasse cup which is double the measure of a standard coffee shot, 30 ml.
Presently numerous coffeehouses all throughout the planet just offer twofold coffees to beat the quality control issues. Regularly, it's additionally called as "standard twofold," so you don't have to confound if a barista utilizes this term to affirm your coffee drink.
Americano
From the outset, it's idea to call "Caffe Americano," however throughout the long term it has been abbreviated to simply "Americano."
In any event, when you demand the barista in an American manner, you'll in any case be presented with an Italian beverage, arranged by weakening the coffee shot with heated water, that is comparative in strength however extraordinary in flavor to ordinary trickle espresso.
The strength of Americano is subject to the quantity of coffee shots and the measure of water added to coordinate with your taste.
Lungo
Dissimilar to ristretto, it signifies "long" on the grounds that you'll get the coffee drink with considerably more water, which for the most part brings about a long mug of java. This isn't the quality element yet basically the piece of individual inclination.
From my experience, most of the espresso darlings request a "lungo" just to appreciate a less extreme "coffee" in a cup while as yet having the taste and characteristics of coffee.
Caffé Crema
You'll discover Caffé Crema exceptionally unprecedented in the Caffe menus on the off chance that you have a place with the English-talking world, and this is a direct result of the critical contrast of granulate when contrasted with standard coffee. Caffe may rather serve you with Americanos or long blacks.
In Italy, throughout the mid year, the majority of the customary cafés present with this coffee variation, Caffé Crema.
You'll presumably discover less English-language guides on the most proficient method to mix Caffé Crema. Its preparing strategy includes extricating the coarsen grounds (go against to totally fine justification) for a similar time as we accomplish for coffee shot, however it brings about a more prominent volume mug of java.
Barista can give some different varieties of this beverage on demand, by temping less or removing for somewhat more than expected.
Bistro Zorro
Practically like Americano however it actually total opposites. The significant distinction is that Café Zorro contains twofold shot and boiling water in the equivalent proportions that give you a more focused and less weakened twofold coffee.
Notwithstanding, in Americano, heated water is added to make the beverage weakened and taste-like dribble espresso surface.
Bistro Cubano
As the name demonstrates, this beverage is started from Cuba and alluding this kind of espresso, implies, you're requesting for a coffee shot that is improved (customarily with the regular earthy colored sugar which has been whipped first with the drops of the most grounded shot of coffee).
This beverage is a piece of noticeable social and social action in Cuba and especially in Miami, Tempa and Florida Keys (Cuban-American people group).
Generally, it's made utilizing an electric coffee machine or regularly in Moka pot with hazier dishes.

the  night  of  may  14th  ,  1966  ,  two  members  of  the  CPC  welcomed  their  first  child  .  the  couple  tried  and  tried  for  years  ,  and  were  finally  given  their  long  awaited  little  boy  :  LIU  JIAN  .  he  quickly  became  the  light  of  their  lives  .  however  in  just  three  years  ,  that  light  would  be  ripped  away  from  them  .
he  was  taken  to  america  —  a  small  town  where  no  one  would  suspect  ,  a  small  town  harboring  a  secret  .  hawkins  ,  indiana  .  he  was  terrified  ,  confused  ,  and  wouldn’t  stop  crying  until  they  eventually  sedated  him  .  there  were  whispers  ,  rumors  ,  about  a  small  child  in  china  with  possible  ...  gifts  ,  and  naturally  within  their  previous  (  and  ongoing  )  tests  ,  they  needed  to  see  for  themselves  .  and  they  couldn’t  let  the  communists  have  this  ,  if  it  was  true  .
it  was  .
NUMBER  FOUR  ,  they  assigned  him  .  he  was  no  longer  jian  ,  no  longer  a  simple  child  .  through  grueling  experiments  ,  pushing  him  past  exhaustion  on  multiple  occasions  ,  they  found  he’s  gifted  with  TELEPATHY  .  at  first  it  was  hard  to  understand  in  translation  of  a  child  who  didn’t  speak  english  ,  but  the  more  they  practiced  ,  it  became  more  apparent  when  focused  .
four  was  subsequently  taught  english  in  the  lab  as  he  aged  ,  because  while  translators  were  available  ,  it  was  “  easier  for  them  all  ”  if  he  learned  .  they  were  correct  in  that  ,  but  it  didn’t  make  the  real  situation  any  better  .
whatever  memories  of  his  parents  he  had  were  slowly  but  surely  leaving  .  whatever  memories  of  a  short  lived  childhood  he  had  were  gone  .
at  the  age  of  eight  ,  they  unlocked  a  new  ability  —  PAIN  INDUCEMENT  —  a  sub-power  of  mental  manipulation  ,  stemming  from  his  telepathy  .  two  of  the  scientists  at  the  lab  had  the  misfortune  of  experiencing  it  firsthand  as  it  began  to  manifest  from  finding  himself  in  a  position  of  danger  ,  since  it  was  during  a  time  he  wasn’t  behaving  as  he  was  expected  to  .
they  decided  to  experiment  even  more  ,  of  course  :  the  limitations  and  circumstances  of  this  newly  developed  ability  .  as  it  would  turn  out  ,  four  can  only  access  pain  inducement  when  he’s  angry  /  feeling  threatened  ,  presumably  as  a  result  of  fight  or  flight  instincts  .
he  didn’t  have  much  contact  with  the  other  children  ,  other  than  intervals  spent  in  the  rainbow  room  ,  and  as  he  grew  older  and  more  distant  he  didn’t  care  .  soon  enough  ,  he  stopped  playing  and  speaking  to  the  others  even  when  they  were  given  that  small  time  .  he  kept  to  himself  ,  drawing  in  a  corner  .  he  liked  art  .  his  drawings  would  often  consist  of  grotesque  monsters  ;  dark  and  wildly  scribbled  ,  as  if  he  was  in  a  rush  to  get  down  what  he  envisioned  .
while  time  went  on  ,  more  and  more  children  escaped  the  lab  ,  leaving  four  one  of  the  last  remaining  .  it  wasn’t  that  four  didn’t  want  his  freedom  ,  to  have  more  than  this  life  of  being  an  experiment  ,  it  was  that  he  was  kind  of  scared  of  it  ?  it  was  an  overwhelming  thought  ,  no  matter  how  curious  he  was  of  the  outside  world  ...
after  eleven’s  monster  encounter  and  gate  opening  situation  ,  four  felt  ...  anxious  .  he  didn’t  know  how  to  describe  it  other  than  feeling  sick  ,  but  not  actually  being  sick  .  so  he  never  tried  ,  knowing  it  would  sound  even  more  ridiculous  .  instead  ,  he  once  again  turned  to  drawing  ,  using  the  creative  outlet  as  a  way  to  express  himself  and  make  up  for  what  his  words  lacked  .  however  ,  it  only  got  worse  when  the  monster  escaped  and  lab  investigations  of  the  newly  quarantined  area  began  .
in  a  well-timed  space  after  the  chaos  ,  he  disobeyed  the  order  of  staying  away  and  found  himself  on  an  adventure  down  into  the  madness  .  just  to  see  what  was  causing  all  of  this  ,  you  know  ?  just  one  glance  .  it  was  almost  too  easy  to  slip  past  any  form  of  security  ,  but  it  was  a  rush  of  adrenaline  that  he  never  thought  he  could  enjoy  .
the  next  day  he  began  drawing  the  gate  ,  trying  to  imitate  the  look  of  it  with  the  few  supplies  he  had  around  .  it  wasn’t  exact  enough  to  sound  off  too  many  alarms  in  the  scientists  that  saw  ,  but  it  was  enough  to  question  if  eleven  wasn’t  the  only  one  who  could  contact  the  other  dimensional  creature  .  for  a  few  days  ,  they  forced  him  to  try  and  contact  the  monster  .  they  wanted  to  see  if  four  could  reach  out  to  it  telepathically  ,  to  try  and  lure  it  back  —  for  a  little  while  ,  it  seemed  like  there  was  potential  ,  but  in  the  end  whatever  close  calls  they  got  were  simply  just  that  .
alright  so  ..  i  would  say  ..  some  time  after  the  events  of  season  1  and  like  mid  season  2  ,  four  finally  escaped  and  fled  deep  into  the  woods  .  with  everything  going  on  and  with  him  already  being  silent  and  withdrawn  ,  it  wouldn’t  have  been  too  shocking  if  nobody  really  noticed  him  at  first  ??  like  he’s  pretty  hard  to  miss  ,  standing  at  6ft  and  looking  ...  like  he  very  obviously  shouldn’t  be  there  ,  but  .  you  know  ,  circumstantial  .
at  some  point  he  was  taking  shelter  in  someone’s  shed  ,  because  he  was  cold  but  he  was  also  still  cold  and  it  didn’t  exactly  help  much  but  it  was  better  than  being  totally  exposed  .  in  order  to  get  warmer  clothes  /  food  ,  though  ,  four  did  use  his  telepathy  in  order  to  make  people  want  to  give  him  stuff  .  or  to  get  out  of  some  type  of  trouble  ??  like  power  of  suggestion  and  things  like  that  ,  basically  .
fast  forward  to  currently  ,  he’s  still  basically  lurking  in  the  woods  by  himself  ,  but  he  did  find  this  nice  older  woman  that  let  him  stay  in  her  guest  room  occasionally  before  she  passed  .  now  he  just  ???  kinda  chills  around  it  ,  but  also  has  started  venturing  out  into  town  ...  only  to  be  ,  admittedly  ,  slightly  overwhelmed  by  the  new  starcourt  mall  .
so  personality  wise  :  he’s  really  ...  i  wouldn’t  say  shy  ,  but  rather  ..  secretive  and  hard  to  read  for  the  most  part  .  doesn’t  know  proper  ways  to  express  himself  .  also  doesn’t  mean  to  seem  cold  or  aloof  though  !!  like  genuinely  he’s  a  nice  kid  and  his  intentions  are  for  the  most  part  good  ,  but  he  definitely  goes  about  things  the  wrong  way  ?  i  would  describe  him  as  a  chaotic  good  ravenclaw  ,  at  best  .
his  astrology  is  taurus  sun  ,  pisces  moon  ,  sagittarius  rising  meaning  he’s  particularly  creative  and  likes  to  have  an  outlet  to  express  himself  .  he  doesn’t  like  rushing  into  things  ,  but  that  doesn’t  necessarily  stop  any  impulses  from  taking  over  here  and  there  .  the  trio  of  signs  are  as  complimentary  as  they  are  contradictory  ,  and  i  think  it  captures  him  as  a  person  so  far  :  curious  but  reserved  ,  withdrawn  but  wanting  to  experience  life  in  a  new  way  .
if  he’s  ever  exposed  to  d&d  ,  he  would  probably  be  a  rogue  .
at  the  lab  ,  some  of  the  scientists  probably  started  calling  him  “  monster  boy  ”  as  a  not  actually  funny  joke  ,  because  monsters  were  pretty  much  the  sole  content  of  his  drawings  .  idk  he’s  very  innately  into  horror  stuff  ,  which  is  almost  ironic  .
in  terms  of  sexuality  ,  he’s  technically  demi  biromantic  /  demi  bisexual  ,  meaning  he  needs  a  solid  bond  before  even  potentially  thinking  about  that  sort  of  ish  .  but  also  because  he  has  absolutely  no  experience  with  it  whatsoever  ,  he’s  painfully  oblivious  to  it  in  all  forms  and  has  no  idea  lmao
uh  ..  he  still  goes  by  four  ,  mostly  .  he  vaguely  remembered  his  birth  name  but  will  only  use  it  if  he  absolutely  has  to  ??  it’s  still  a  really  foreign  concept  to  him  that  he  technically  has  a  name  and  not  just  a  number  ?  he’s  sort  of  self  conscious  about  said  name  though  ,  because  people  who  do  know  it  have  mispronounced  it  at  some  point  or  another  ,  i’m  sure  .  so  either  he  goes  by  the  usual  four  ...  or  maybe  a  simple  ‘  ji  ’
somehow  has  gained  an  addiction  to  coffee  ,  and  he  (  obviously  )  also  doesn’t  know  what  his  favorite  ice  cream  flavor  is  ,  that’s  possibly  gonna  be  a  bit  of  fun  to  figure  out  ,  maybe  !

A/N: It picks up more after the first chapter or so! // Odd chapters are Sonny’s POV, even are Rafael’s
Monday morning at four thirty, Sonny unlocks the door of Carisi’s Sweetstop. He’s not fully awake yet, but he’s close from the brisk walk down the street between his apartment and work. It’s warm inside, thanks to a night without the expensive AC, but not hot enough to melt the candy or affect the fridges of dough, batter, cream, and soda. He keeps fudge in them too on particularly warm Summer days, but luckily it hasn’t come to that yet this year. He bumps the door shut with his hip and stumbles to the back to set his bag on the counter and fumble in the direction of the lightswitch inlaid on the back wall.
When he flicks on the light, warm yellow bathes the pictures behind the counter of all the owners in order above their aprons. He smiles to himself at Nonna’s picture on the wall as a young woman. She had been formidable even then, wearing a dark skirt, a plaid shirt, and a purple apron with “Carisi” on it in white cursive as she flexes and laughs at the camera. To the right of her is a picture of himself. Before it was his, it was his grandmother’s, and her mother’s before that, and her mother’s before that, back countless generations from the first Carisi to set foot on Staten Island. Although he had been working here since he was little and running it for a couple months before the photo, it was his first morning as the official owner. It’s not obvious in the print, but his cheeks were puffy and there were bags under his eyes from a sleepless night.
He picks up his green apron that Nonna made him when he turned sixteen. Ten years ago, she had seemed invincible. Its sturdy strings are woven into a knot against the small of his back, keeping it in place to protect his clothes while he bakes. It’s Monday, which means the daily treats are macarons, donuts, and in warm months, ice cream. Colder times bring hot chocolate instead, but not when the sun hasn’t risen and the temperature is already in the eighties. He made the donut batter already, and doesn’t need long to pour it into the pan before he starts on the macarons.
Before heading into the kitchen and pulling out all the ingredients, however, he pauses to pull out his phone and press play on New York Barba, his favorite podcast. Although he never made it to law school, he still likes to read the law review journals and listen to the talk shows. Call him weird, but he loves New York Barba for a multitude of things: the name (a pun on the bar association), the topics (every important or interesting verdict that week), the jokes (the host has a sarcastic sense of humor that rivals Sonny’s own), and the host himself (Rafael Barba). Rafael used to be an ADA, and every now and then he mentions some of his favorite techniques in court. One boring afternoon, he got it in his head to look up the man’s career and was astounded to find a high win rate, infamous attitude, and someone who wanted to change the world. He doesn’t understand why someone like that would just quit, but if Rafael ever gave an explanation, Sonny can’t find it. He always saves the shows, which come out during mass on Sunday morning, for background at the start of the work week.
“Welcome back to New York Barba, this is Rafael on air. Before I get into the usual stuff, please tell me you’ve all been keeping up with politics lately.”
Sonny laughs a little himself as he cracks the eggs and separates out the yolks. The store fills with the sound of Rafael’s insults about the current administration and the policies being shown to the world. There’s passion in his voice, strong enough that it rings true in Sonny’s chest like an echo. It drips like honey over the egg whites that Sonny whisks hard and fast into the frothy mixture that macarons demand. His sister tried to get him an electric mixer once, but he refused. It’s Nonna’s way or not at all. The first batch takes a few minutes to whip up after he adds the rest of the ingredients and a few drops of food coloring and flavor to the cookie part. Most of the flavors he does use plain frosting, but he’ll add flavor to that too if he’s in a playful mood.
“So, on to the latest failures of the wonderful NYPD,” Rafael says, voice so venomous that Sonny can picture his green eyes darkening and a scowl staining his face as the donuts are pulled from the oven and dumped onto the cooling rack. Sonny starts the glaze while they reach an acceptable temperature for it. “My dear friend and the leading candidate for another term as mayor, Alex Muñoz, has the lovely men and women in blue in his back pocket. He appears to have bought his way out of the investigation of some extracurriculars with his teenage intern in a poli-sci class at PS 129. Look up the reports- they’re public record- and you’ll see that the girl’s mother filed a report of statutory but the precinct dismissed it. Two hours before it was dismissed, the precinct was given a grant from the mayor’s office for improved facilities. I can’t speak to exactly what happened, but I think it’s obvious.”
“You’d be a better candidate,” Sonny tells the empty room.
He pulls the glaze off of the stove top and tilts the saucepan over the first two dozen donuts, coating all of them with sweet-smelling glaze and preparing them for when the shop opens. It’s nearing five, giving him only half an hour before he has to open up. Already, early joggers are running past and peering inside only to catch sight of the ‘closed’ sign and carry on with their routes. They’ll come back, they always do. Sonny listens to the rest of the cast intently while he puts everything in its place and starts to churn this week’s ice cream flavors, vanilla bean, strawberry, and mint chip. He’s thought about investing in a machine, but it falls under the same rule as the electric mixer. Nonna did it by hand, so he’ll do the same.
The podcast ends at five twenty-seven, just in time for Sonny to silence his phone, wash his hands, and return to the front of the store with today’s fresh treats. He runs up to the door and flips the ‘CLOSED’ sign to open. There aren’t many people this early most of the time, but he likes getting to chat with other business owners and morning shift workers on their way in, as well as the harried mothers picking up treats for their kids before school. He recognizes and greets his regulars, preparing their orders when he sees them walk in, disturbing the old windchimes made from broken glass plucked by Nonna’s careful fingers off the beach.
At six fifteen, Amanda comes in. She owns the kickboxing studio next door and stops by at the beginning and end of the day, as well as whatever free moments she can find between classes. Her loose tee shirt gets caught on the door, making her loudly complain as Sonny chokes back a laugh and fetches her the usual blueberry muffin and cup of orange juice. For once, she isn’t running late, so she’s able to loiter at his counter while she munches through her breakfast.
“I’m assuming you heard Barba’s show?”
“Yeah. Really heavy on politics this time, not as much law,” Sonny replies, as if he wouldn’t listen to Rafael rambling on for hours about the methods of tying ties. “Makes sense though, election season is coming up.”
Amanda wipes her mouth with the back of her hand to erase a smear of blueberry. “What’s your take on Muñoz?”
“Never liked him anyways.”
She gives him a knowing smile but doesn’t say anything else.

Difference To Olive Oil And Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Tumblr media
You don't have to put away oil in the refrigerator. The key tactics to avert this are to safeguard the oil from light and heat. In order to get this done, the oil was treated either chemically or with heat. To begin with, it can seem like olive oil is significantly less expensive than coconut, tempting you to elect for olive. Olive oil was demonstrated to be helpful in this manner. Extra virgin oil is easily the most expensive. Extra virgin olive oil isn't the only sort of olive oil you can get, despite the fact that it could be the most popular.
Make Sure to Get the appropriate Type The value of getting the proper kind of olive oil cannot be overstated. Olive oil which is not appropriate for human consumption is refined by means of a heat and chemical procedure. It is one of the primary foods and good diet associated with the heart-healthy Mediterranean Diet. It can reduce inflammation, which may be one of the main reasons for its health benefits. It comes from olive oil that isn't worthy of the extra virgin olive oil label. Pure olive oil utilizes heat, therefore it contains fewer antioxidants. In case it will become crystalline, the odds are good that it's an actual extra-virgin olive oil.
With the holiday season upon us, the best gift you can give is to earn an individual's life somewhat better. You may also stuff the male flowers (they are a little smaller and don't have a zucchini attached). Some individuals also utilize olive leaf to attempt to treat infections. New Step by Step Roadmap for Difference to Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil
As soon as it is most certainly the priciest cleanser I have ever purchased, whenever I use it I am further convinced that it is among the ideal beauty products I've ever run into. In the previous 8-12 months or so, my skin has begun to present the indicators of rosacea and I think that it's becoming more and more pronounced. Ice cream was a bit disappointing. Some portions of the banana are employed in the manufacturing of paper in addition to a product called cordage.  There is a sort of banana named M. paradisiaca also referred to as the cooking banana and isn't as sweet as the kinds that we eat raw. When the fruit was crushed, it's then groundincluding the pitinto a paste to permit the oil to freely flow. The yearly olive harvest is in autumn for the majority of varieties.

The Hidden Gem of Difference to Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil
The association between olive oil and the probability of stroke was studied extensively. The big difference can be understood in their major uses. Though it might not sound like it, there may be a noticeable difference between both. Whatever the claims on the front part of the bottle, always read the complete label, too. The remaining portion of the world would be wise to emulate them. Despite the fact that the modern method works faster, it has an inclination to allow tiny metallic pieces to enter the oil.
Coconut oil was linked to some antioxidant activity, but not to the degree of olive. Olive oil is a typical cooking oil obtained from olives used all around the world, particularly in the Mediterranean. It is very important to try to remember that olive oil is a product of nature, therefore it follows the rule that mass production can't lessen the cost unless it also lessens the quality. Light olive oil is a good example of some other sort of olive oil it's possible to get.
Olive oil is comparatively heat-stable for cooking. It is used throughout the world and is often associated with Mediterranean countries. Olive pomace oil is obtained by means of a chemical procedure to find the very last drops of oil from the olive paste. Extra virgin olive oil is the purest type of olive oil that you can get, thus a little bit of background on it would be useful towards understanding olive oil generally. It is much better tasting than the refined mixes and provides all of the health benefits that are associated with olive oil.

36 Hours: 36 Hours in Mendocino County
Tumblr media
Ninety miles north of San Francisco, Mendocino County is just far enough away to have narrowly escaped the Bay Area’s radical transformation during the tech boom years. In contrast to other formerly quiet Northern California backwaters, Mendocino maintains its rural identity and eccentricities, including its longstanding status as one of the country’s major marijuana-producing regions. Where there is big news, it’s largely culinary. The 30-year-old chef at Elk’s Harbor House Inn was recently named a James Beard award semifinalist for Best Chef in the West. Besides the Harbor House’s eight- to 12-course, $150 per person prix fixe dinners, there are cheesemakers, upstart breweries, exceptional farm stands — notably Fort Bragg’s Nye Ranch and Caspar’s Fortunate Farm — and farm-inspired restaurants, like the long-awaited, soon-to-open Fog Eater Cafe, which began as a farm pop-up, and will serve “California cuisine with a Southern twang.” After years of population stagnation, young people are moving in, or coming home, and committing themselves to Mendocino’s fertile soil and sea. It’s a second wave back-to-the-land movement and a welcome reprieve from the Bay Area’s buzz.
Friday
1) 3:30 p.m. Tall trees
Take Highway 128 through the Anderson Valley, to Hendy Woods State Park, where you can stretch your legs beneath the awe-inspiring giant redwoods or take a dip in the Navarro River. Then, backtrack to Boonville’s Pennyroyal Farm, the sister farmstead to one of Mendocino’s most beloved wineries, Navarro Vineyards. Sample rich goat and sheep milk cheeses, fresh and aged, exceptional pinot noir, and farm-made pickles and preserves. Sit out back, beside a gurgling fountain, and watch sheep meander beneath the vines. In the spring, a farm tour (11 a.m. daily) offers the overwhelming cuteness of nursing lambs and kids.
2) 6 p.m. Supper stop
For dinner, reserve a table at the Boonville Hotel, a former roadhouse that’s now a beautiful, family-owned inn with a wide porch, flickering fireplaces when the weather’s cool, and a seductive patio garden for outdoor dining during the warm months. The restaurant’s new chef, Perry Hoffman, is from Sonoma’s James Beard award-winning SHED and, before that, Napa’s Michelin-starred Étoile. Here, his prix-fixe menus (starting at $58) include lively dishes and unexpected flavor combinations. Imagine mussels with charred cabbage, grapefruit, fennel and seaweed or a whole stuffed quail with artichokes, shiitake mushrooms, bolting kale and brown rice vinegar.
3) 9 p.m. Change is brewing
After winding through the redwoods and along the coast, head for the former logging town of Fort Bragg, for some small town night life. The 135-year-old Golden West is a dive bar that was bought in 2015 by a couple who grew up locally and returned after living in Los Angeles. The bar has maintained its vintage character (neon signs, shuffleboard and pool tables, faded black-and-white photos of logging scenes) while upgrading its extensive liquor cabinet and serving excellent cocktails, and has occasional but unexpectedly good live music, as well as a Sunday Bloody Mary bar. Or, for a family-friendly pub in a tucked-away location, seek out Mendocino’s newest brewery, Overtime Brewery, which teams with Nye Ranch in making its exotic seasonal beers, like the “Thistle Dew” artichoke ale or Nye Ranch Cucumber Batch. Take a couple of crowlers — a 32-ounce can filled from the tap and sealed on site — of your favorite beer to go.
Saturday
4) 8 a.m. Super bloom
Tucked into a strip mall, Cafe Jaavy — the younger sister of the longtime local favorite, Los Gallitos — has colorful oilcloth tablecloths, a salsa bar and a breakfast menu that includes savory Mexican breakfasts like chilaquiles (tortilla chips simmered in a flavorful, mildly spicy sauce, served with beans and eggs, $9.50) and standout huevos rancheros with chorizo ($9.50), plus sweeter offerings like banana and berry crepes ($8.99) and generous smoothies ($4.50) made with fresh fruit. The Tropical, with mango, apple, pineapple, melon, chili and lime is particularly tasty. Then, head for the 47-acre Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens, where 124 species of rhododendrons put on a spectacular show in April and May.
5) 11 a.m. Sweet soak
Drive south to Mendocino village to walk its photogenic streets and gawk at the immaculately preserved Victorians. Pop into Frankie’s for a scoop of locally made Cowlick’s ice cream. Among the cafe’s 16 rotating flavors are chai, Campari grapefruit sorbet, yellow cake batter and mushroom. Then, take a restorative soak in Sweetwater Spa’s communal — and clothing optional — eight-person redwood tub, sweat in the cedarwood sauna, or indulge in a massage (starting at $110 for 50 minutes). There are also private tubs ($25 per hour), which are enclosed but open to the sky; if a starry soak is your thing, Sweetwater is open until 9 p.m.
6) 12:30 p.m. Pizza pit stop
Next door, Cafe Beaujolais’s weekend-only takeout window, the Brickery, serves pizza ($13) with big, perfectly charred air pockets and daring toppings, like Moroccan-spiced rabbit and garlicky New Haven-style white clam pizza. On sunny days, the backyard garden is idyllic for sharing a pie and savoring a glass of rosé or a craft cider.
7) 2 p.m. Glass for the masses
Fort Bragg’s signature attraction, a former town dump that was transformed by time into a beach of gleaming sea glass, has been badly picked over and is no longer the dazzling sight it once was. For a glimpse of its former glory, head to the odd little International Sea Glass Museum south of town, where Captain Cass sells bags of so-called Seed Glass ($4.95) to replenish the beach’s supply. Across Highway 1, the Glass Fire Gallery displays fantastic blown-glass creations in the form of jellyfish chandeliers and mushroom-shaped table lamps. While in the area, go for a stroll along the newly opened Noyo Headlands Coastal Trail. After more than a century of the headlands being occupied by a sprawling mill site, the town now has access to its coastal bluffs, where California poppies blaze orange in the spring, when it’s also possible to spot migrating whales spouting offshore.
8) 3:30 p.m. Local treasure
For a dose of Mendocino’s wonderful eccentricity, visit The Larry Spring Museum of Common Sense Physics, a tiny two-room storefront museum that celebrates the life and work of the local inventor, lay scientist and World War II transport pilot, Larry Spring. In the same small building, Lost Coast Found has a charming selection of vintage home goods: midcentury stereos, cheery 1970s-era coffee cups, along with used books, postcards and miscellanea.
9) 5:30 p.m. Fresh caught
Have an early, California-style dinner by the water in Noyo Harbor, where you have a difficult choice of dining options. For fresh, crispy fish and chips, bundle up and sit on the riverside deck at Sea Pal Cove, where dinner guests include sea gulls, there are $5 pints of high-end craft beer, and views of passing fishing — and, in season, whale-watching — boats. A few doors down, Princess Seafood Market & Deli is a woman-owned and -run fishing operation with its own boat and seafood restaurant. Princess serves reasonably priced, locally caught seafood, including whole Dungeness crab ($27.95), barbecued Royal Miyagi oysters ($12.95 for a half dozen, and a grilled prawn po boy ($15.95). During chilly coastal evenings, the deli’s tented seating area provides heat lamps and freshly laundered blankets. Then, pick up a Coast Packet and take a gamble on a local performance. One of the joys of small town cultural life is the unexpectedness of what’s available from week to week, whether it’s the wonderful independent Flynn Creek Circus or a riotous political play at the Mendocino Theatre Company.
Sunday
10) 9 a.m. The Greenwood Good Life
On your way through Mendocino, grab a takeout breakfast — an organic housemade bagel with lox and “all the veggies” ($12.50) or “market-inspired” quiche ($8) — at Mendocino’s Good Life Cafe. Sip your coffee to-go as you drive a breathtaking stretch of Highway 1 to the village of Elk, population 200. Tote your breakfast down to Greenwood State Beach to sit on a piece of driftwood, look out over the volatile Pacific and take a long breath of sea air. Then, visit Elk Greenwood Museum and Visitor Center — originally the town’s post office — to learn some Greenwood lore from the center’s knowledgeable docents.
11) 11 a.m. Wine Down
Take Philo-Greenwood Road back to Anderson Valley and taste your way out of town. The options can be overwhelming, but the redwood tasting room at Toulouse Vineyards and Winery is especially beautiful and its wines are excellent renditions of classic local varietals: Alsatian whites and pinot noirs. For three wineries in one Spanish-style plaza, stop at The Madrones complex, where Drew Family Cellars, Smith-Story Winery and the newly opened Long Meadow Ranch, which has estate-grown Burgundian varietals, share a plaza.
12) 12:30 p.m. History lesson
Cut east over Route 253 — a spectacular 16-mile drive across hilltops of moss-draped California live oaks — to Ukiah, Mendocino’s 16,000-person county seat. Dedicated to an extraordinary, but largely forgotten painter, the Grace Hudson Museum and Sun House displays Hudson’s striking and distinctly empathetic portraits of native peoples and immigrants, exhibits the work of local artists, and offers tours of Hudson’s Arts and Crafts home, which she called Sun House.
13) 2 p.m. Buddhist brunch
Head south to the City of 10,000 Buddhas, a former California State Mental Hospital that is now a Buddhist community and monastery. The campus’s distinctive arched entrance is undergoing renovation, but its roaming peacocks, evocative institutional architecture and Jyun Kang Vegetarian Restaurant, which serves tasty vegetarian dishes to a mostly local crowd, remain. Or hop down the 101 to Hopland, where Rock Seas serves an ever-changing menu that riffs on brunch classics — like coconut French Toast with star anise, coconut, brown sugar and mango ($12).
Lodging
In the last two years, two long-awaited new hotels have opened on the Mendocino coast. The Harbor House Inn, in Elk, is a 1916 redwood home which was originally built by the local logging company and designed to showcase the beauty of the region’s lumber. After an eight-year renovation, the inn reopened in May of 2018 with 10 rooms (starting at $355, breakfast included) and a destination restaurant.

A Sister's Place Savannah Page My Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️▫️▫️ Publisher Lake Union Publishing Publish Date February 14, 2017 SUMMARY How would you feel if you are in your mid 20's had to live in the same house with your sister for a year? That's what happened to sisters Gracie and Juliette Bennett. They would inherit their grandmother's, Mimi's house in Santa Barbara, California if they lived in it together for one year. This house, at 1402 Laguna Lane was been in their family for sixty-seven years. The girls loved this house because of all their fabulous childhood memories of sleepovers and holiday visits. But Gracie and Juliette were as different as night and day. One lives in New York City and and the other lives in Santa Barbara, California. One had a responsible career as a paralegal, and one was happy doing odd jobs like tutoring or assisting a caterer. They are different in everything from temperament to their choice of their favorite ice cream flavor. This challenge will test their will, their character, their abilities and their preconceptions. The sisters have been out of touch ever since going off to college years before. With the girls separated by thousands of miles there has been no sense of camaraderie, no shared secrets and no late night calls. Mimi's so much wanted her beautiful granddaughters to renew and re-establish their bond. She wrote them five heart-felt and encouraging letters-like only a grandmother can do-for the girls to open over the course of the next five seasons. The girls opened their first letter in Spring 2015. It encouraged to Gracie and Juliette to appreciate one of life's greatest experiences-sisterhood. REVIEW If you have a sister you would enjoy this sweet book. It's a heart-warming story about what it really means to be a sister. It's about maintaining and cultivating that sister bond, and always being there for each other. The characters Gracie and Juliette are well-developed and though different, both are very likable characters. The setting in Santa Barbara and particularly, Mimi's house on Laguna Lane sounds perfect, almost to perfect. Each chapter in A Sister's Place is alternately narrated by Gracie and Juliette. Within each chapter, the girls often flashbacks to childhood memories or past experiences. I had some trouble keeping track of all the transitions. I often found myself having to flip back to determine which sister was narrating, particularly in the first half of the book. Overall, I found A Sister's Place a very sweet book, but a little slow. Thanks to Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for an advance reading copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

The Best Ice Cream In NYC added to Google Docs
The Best Ice Cream In NYC
As you print out old photos from summers past and gently stroke them as if to say, “I’ll never forget you,” it’s important to remember that ice cream is still there for you. Plenty of ice cream spots around the city are open for takeout and delivery, including the best of the best.
Looking for soft serve? We have a guide for that too.
the spots  Noah Devereaux Eddie's Sweet Shop $ $ $ $ Dessert  in  Forest Hills ,  Queens $$$$ 10529 Metropolitan Ave
We only recently learned that Eddie’s Sweet Shop is the oldest ice cream parlor in New York City - but, in retrospect, this makes sense. With its chandeliers, vintage wallpaper, and pharmacy-like candy counter, this place looks as though it hasn’t changed in the past 90 years. In the 1950s, people probably came here and thought, “How quaint.” More importantly, however, this Forest Hills spot serves big scoops of dense, classic ice cream flavors, and their Banana Royal is a massive pile of ice cream topped with whipped cream and sprinkles. It’ll make you feel as if you’re in elementary school and you just won a spelling bee.
 Noah Devereaux Emack & Bolio's Ice Cream $ $ $ $ Ice Cream ,  Dessert  in  Upper East Side $$$$ 1564 1st Ave
We have a hypothesis that Emack and Bolio’s menu went through R&D with a focus group of particularly imaginative six-year-olds. This may explain the fact that you can order your ice cream in a cone covered in fruit loops and marshmallows. Our advice here is to be as outrageous as possible with your flavor and topping decisions. You’re eating ice cream, not choosing an insurance plan.
Noah Devereaux The Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory $ $ $ $ Ice Cream ,  Dessert  in  Chinatown $$$$ 65 Bayard St
Like all of the most respected 42-year-olds you know, the Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory has used its years to fine tune itself. Now there are three locations (Chinatown, the Lower East Side and in Flushing), all serving flavors like Chinese egg custard, red bean, and coconut fudge. While we love green tea oreo and the black sesame that comes with specks of sesame seeds, this is the kind of place where you should try new flavors every time you visit.
Mikey Likes It Mikey Likes It Ice Cream $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  East Village $$$$ 199 Avenue A
On a fundamental level, there are only two types of ice cream places. One type prioritizes base ice cream flavors, the other leans toward toppings and mix-ins (although this is, of course, a spectrum). For some reason, the latter also tends to have better names, and Mikey Likes It is a great example. Here, you can get a scoop of “Foxy Brown” with chocolate wafer cookies and a sea salt caramel swirl, or some “Pink Floyd” stuffed with strawberry and cheesecake. It’s a fun spot, and it’s perfect for when your standard ice cream place simply doesn’t have enough to offer.
 Davey's Ice Cream $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  East Village $$$$ 137 1st Ave
Remember that ice cream spectrum we were talking about? Davey’s in East Village is at the other end of it. They serve straightforward flavors like strawberry, pistachio, and cookies & cream, and you can get any of these things in a banana split, a milkshake, or a brownie sundae with hot fudge. The lack of gimmicky toppings and mix-ins gives this place an old-school feel, despite the fact that it isn’t especially old - although if you’d like to try something a little more fun, you can always get a slice of peanut pie blended into a milkshake.
 Alejandra Marin La Newyorkina $ $ $ $ $$$$ 240 Sullivan St
Known primarily for their paletas, La Newyorkina also serves scoops of ice cream - and if you ignore them, you need to reach inside yourself and wonder why that is. Once you’ve done this, order a scoop of horchata or Mexican chocolate ice cream, or get a sundae with caramelized banana and whipped cream. The ice cream at this Greenwich Village spot is rich and dense, and the tres leches flavor comes packed with chunks of cake that somehow stay fresh and fluffy, despite being frozen.
Emily Schindler OddFellows Ice Cream - The Sandwich Shop $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  East Village $$$$ 75 E 4th St
Some people think this East Village place gets a little too fancy with its flavors. This is, of course, a misconception. Odd Fellows is exactly as fancy as it should be, and when we taste their more-complex flavors, we’re reminded of Icarus’ father, Daedalus. Whereas Icarus flew too close to the sun, Daedalus knew exactly what he was doing, and the result was impressive and majestic without being ostentatious. And that’s the perfect way to describe Odd Fellows’ salty, tangy miso cherry flavor, which is a top 10 all-time NYC ice cream. The flavors (like cornbread and vegan matcha black sesame) change daily, so check their website to see what’s available.
 Noah Devereaux Lady Moo-Moo $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  Bedford-Stuyvesant ,  Brooklyn $$$$ 365 Chauncey St.
Taking ice cream to-go is no new concept at Lady Moo Moo. For years now, this Bed-Stuy spot has been serving things like banana pudding ice cream and yuzu lemon sorbet from a takeout window on the corner of Chauncey Street and Howard Avenue. But if you really want to know why this place is great, focus your attention on their “Rooftop Honey” flavor. It’s pretty simple, and tastes like creamy gold.
 Ice & Vice $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  Lower East Side $$$$ 221 E Broadway
A self-proclaimed experimental ice cream shop, Ice & Vice makes its flavors with ingredients like chili lime plantain chips and lemon charcoal. Thankfully, this LES spot knows how to make complicated things actually taste good. Our recommendation? Go with your gut. Like most major TV networks today, this ice cream shop knows how to cater to several different niche audiences at the same time. But just in case you’re curious, the last thing we tried here was the “Opium Den,” which is full of toasted poppy seeds and lemon bread croutons.
Sugar Hill Creamery Sugar Hill Creamery $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  Harlem $$$$ 184 Malcolm X Blvd
We don’t hand out awards for ice cream names, but if we did Sugar Hill Creamery’s A$AP Rocky Road would probably receive some sort of recognition. But you need to order it for the name alone. It’s stuffed with hazelnuts, marshmallows, brownies, and graham crackers, and it’s exactly what you want all over your face on a warm day in Harlem. Or, if you prefer, you can also get some peach cobbler, blueberry cheesecake, or strawberry ice cream with basil and lemon curds. Flavors change depending on the season, so check their website to see what’s available.
Noah Devereaux Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  Brooklyn ,  Carroll Gardens $$$$ 513 Henry St.
You don’t come to Brooklyn Farmacy for a scoop of vanilla on a sugar cone. You come to this soda fountain in Carroll Gardens for an embarrassingly large ice cream sundae with pretzel rods sticking out of its sides. And even though you’ll be eating it out of a large to-go cup instead of a glass dessert bowl this summer, the ice cream base of each sundae here will still give you a better understanding of what “velvety” really means.
Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream $ $ $ $ Dessert  in  Greenpoint $$$$ 620 Manhattan Ave
Flavors don’t get too wild at Van Leeuwen, but each one tastes like its ingredient in its truest form. Your first lick of strawberry, for instance, might taste more like strawberries than an actual strawberry. Do you remember those Gushers commercials from the ’90s? It’s kind of a situation like that in which, after consumption, your head might morph into a plump fruit (in a pleasant way). We don’t know how that visual would manifest for the earl grey, but you need to at least ask for a sample of this delicate, but creamy flavor. And for non-dairy eaters, Van Leeuwen has some of the best vegan ice cream we‘ve ever tried. The coconut cream base isn’t too overpowering, and just as creamy as the dairy-filled original.
 Ollie's Ice Cream $ $ $ $ Ice Cream  in  Brooklyn ,  Bushwick $$$$ 158 Irving Ave
Dogs are great. Everyone loves dogs. So we fully support Ollie’s choice to serve ice cream for dogs. We have not, however, tried this dog ice cream, and we’re therefore only able to discuss Ollie’s ice cream flavors for humans. It’s wonderful. Thick, sweet, and even slightly fluffy, it should be your go-to frozen dessert in Bushwick. Get a few scoops and bring them down the block to Maria Hernandez Park. The kettle corn flavor with its salty caramel swirls is especially worthwhile, as is the red velvet flavor, which doesn’t really taste like red velvet but is delicious nonetheless.

Do you feel bored with your life? I do feel that way, some days more so than others. Like some days even the few things I like to do, like Tumblr and surveys, just don’t cut it.  Who’s someone you miss that you haven’t talked to in years? Ty. Do you miss anyone who was mean to you in the past? No. How do you feel right now? Tired. Do you have severe withdrawals from medications? I imagine I would if I had to stop taking my pain medication.
What’s the most weight you’ve ever gained from a medication? I’ve never had weight gain from a medication. Do you have a doctor you can trust? I just answered this in the previous survey. Wth is going with these surveys, man. So many will have the same questions, and not just the basic ones that like all surveys have, but ones that should be more random like this.  What’s the stupidest decision you ever made? Oh where to start. The health related ones definitely top the cake. There were things I could have and should have done, but didn’t for some stupid reason. I should have taken better care of myself.  What’s the best thing that ever happened to you? When my younger brother was born (cue the “awwwwww”). I was 9 and may not have been psyched about having a brother at first (sorry!), but he’s the best little bro ever. Turned out so much better than me. He should be the older one, honestly. I look up to him. And also of course all the doggos I’ve been fortunate to have in my life. How old were you the first time you encountered God? When I was a young kid, but I didn’t really understand it and then I got to be older and went through many years of being atheist and agnostic. I was led back to Him when Ty came back into my life in late 2015. Have you ever been filled with the Holy Spirit? I believe so. Have you ever had an encounter with the supernatural? No. How many tattoos do you have, and what are they of? I don’t have any. How do you get through hard times? * I dont rlly do anything all that different. Like, my overall routines dont rlly change, I still do mostly the same stuff on a day-to-day basis. I do try to find more comforting and distracting things to do, tho, and I try to be extra kind and patient toward myself when Im struggling or when life puts some bit of unwanted chaos in my path, ahah <<< Same for the first part about not doing anything different in regards to what I do and my overall routines staying the same, but also trying to distract myself more. I’ve been going through a really hard time for a long time, but here we are. That being said, I’m not doing anything to try and better it, and that’s where my issue is.  What’s the most physically painful thing you’ve ever experienced? The pain after surgical procedures.  What’s the worst level of emotional pain you’ve ever experienced? Losing loved ones and my depression, particularly these past few years. Have you ever been suicidal? Not actively. I can’t say I’ve never thought about it, but I’ve never seriously planned anything or tried anything. I’m too scared and I don’t want to hurt my loved ones. And truthfully, I don’t really want to die. I just want to start living. I want to not feel this way anymore and not have this battle with my mind and feeling as sad and miserable and crappy as I do. I want to live a live I’m passionate about and actually do something. Do you pray? If yes, to whom? Yes, to God. Do you ever feel lost and alone? “If you’re lost and alone, and sinking like a stone, carry onnnnn.” What do you miss about high school? I mean, I wouldn’t wanna go back, but there were some good parts. It had its ups and downs.  What do you miss the most about college? I’ve answered this recently. Did you like high school? Like I said, it had its ups and downs. What was the name of the first dorm you lived in? I never lived in a dorm. What was the last thing that made you angry? Blah. Have you ever been the victim of a crime? Yes. I’m a victim of a drive-by shooting. Is your life worse than you could have ever have imagined it to be? I mean, I didn’t imagine my life being how its been these past few years... …or is it better, or just what you expected? No. Are you married? No. Are you hurting in any way right now? Yes. Are you currently missing someone? There’s a few people I’ll always miss. What are you wearing? Black leggings and a gray Nirvana shirt. What was the last flavor of tea you drank? Peppermint.  Do you feel like youtube’s gotten boring lately? No. What would you change about your hair if you could? I just need to get it dyed and trimmed. Are you jealous of anyone? No. Do you have a secret? Maybe. If you could tell anyone a secret right now, who would it be? No one. Do you miss someone that you blew it with? Yes. I’ll always regret how things went with Ty.  Is there a guy (or girl) you wish you hadn’t screwed things up with? Yeah, Ty. What was the best date you’ve ever been on? Coffee shop and bookstore dates with Ty. What’s the last great song you discovered? Hmm. Do you prefer color or black and white? I like both, just depends. Do you own a thermometer? Yeah. Has facebook gotten boring lately? Yeah it kinda is.  Do you feel free to post how you feel on facebook? I don’t really post anything on there anymore, especially not anything personal or about my opinions on big topics.  Which stereotype do you fit the most? Don’t know, don’t care. What is your favorite fast food restaurant? Burger King, Taco Bell, Chick-Fil-A, McDonalds, and Jack in the Box. I haven’t been into fast food; though, the past couple months, which is very odd for me.  What is the most beautiful landscape you have ever seen? For my birthday we took a gondola ride up 9000ft and got the most beautiful view of the mountains, lake, and city. It was incredible.  What is one place you have always wanted to visit? Hawaii. What was your favorite vacation you went on as a child? Disneyland. Who were your favorite celebrities as a child? I was the 12/13/14 year old with tons of posters all over my wall from magazines.  What was the first CD you bought? I think the 1st one I bought myself was Ashlee Simpson’s CD, Autobiography. ha.  How old are you? 30. What year were you born? 1989. Did you go to prom? Yes. Are you jealous of people who are ten years younger? I’m kind of envious in some ways. For one, they’re 20 years old aka babies and not old like me haha. But second of all, they’re really just starting out. I’m envious of the ones who are living their best lives and having fun and the ones who are starting college and making the best of it while also having a good social life. People at 20 still have so much time ahead to figure things out, and that I’m very envious of. If you could rewind time ten years, would you? It would be tempting. There’s so much I’d like to do differently. The thought of going through college all over again isn’t appealing, though. But man. Some changes that I’d like to change might make it worth it, though.. they would make such a big difference for me. Some of the things I’m dealing with now I don’t think I would be if I did some things differently. What do you miss the most about your past? I miss my childhood the most. Do you like getting older? Not at all. What is the last song you played on repeat? Hm. I’m not one to really play songs on repeat, so I don’t recall. Do you own a CD player? Nope. What hard thing are you going through right now, if applicable? My health and life stuff. What do you need prayer for? Good health and strength.  Are you ok? “I’m not okay, I’m not o-fucking-kay.” What’s the best retreat you’ve ever been on? I haven’t been on a retreat.  Do you love free falling? “Now I’m freeeeeee. Free fallin’.” Do you prefer slow songs or fast songs? I like both. Have you made any progress toward going after your dreams? No. I don’t even have any dreams to work towards right now. Local Roots, 2 July 2018
Tumblr media
One time, Daddy Charlie lost his job, went on a nine month bender, and got himself involved with a PAWG from Richfield who - sorry about this - talked black. Sorry, I just - I don’t know what the right word is for when a white person affects a stereotypical inner city Afro-American accent and dialect.    Thus, all I knew about Richfield was that white chicks who took on stereotype accents came from there. I would later wind up working with another white woman from Richfield whose Instagram was ninety percent black people, so...    It’s like this: I believe in a gray race, that we should all be screwing each other until all our grand kids are coffee-colored. I don’t believe in compartmentalizing and blockading race and culture and, privilege checked, I understand how easy it is for me, a white dude, to say that. So I really shouldn’t turn a skeptic eye toward the white women of Richfield, especially knowing two of them and their actual backgrounds.*    But, for real, talking “black” is pretty offensive and I still cringe when I remember that I had sex with that person.    Don’t give me that look. I was once entangled with a Randian libertarian. That shit was way worse.    ANYWAY!!    I was looking to get myself a passport and it turned out that the closest passport office for which I did not need an appointment was in Richfield so I biked down there, paid the hundred ten beans for the passport and the fifty some odd processing fee and then I left Richfield city hall and I stopped, turned around, and asked the nice white lady at the information counter, “Hey,” I pointed at my helmet, “I’ve got a bit of a haul ahead of me and I was wondering if there was somewhere around here I could pick up a spot of lunch.”    She looked off to the side briefly and then lit up, clearly this was the information request she was looking for. “Do you like locally grown ingredients?”    “Absolutely!”    From there, she sang the praises of this joint just a couple blocks from city hall, Local Roots. She suggested I try the turkey and brie and told me it came with a blueberry or a blackberry mustard (she couldn’t remember which) and recommended that I get that on the side because when she got it, they put it on too heavily. She told me they had a patio. I could bring my dog. She really repped for them and I think they owe her a check.    So I go there and I look up at the menu board and this friendly lady at the register asks if she can help me and I tell her I’m just looking at the board. OK, let her know when I’m ready. OK, thay-    [whistle from The Good, The Bad, The Ugly]    Oh. There you are. Reuben.    Or, rather, what they call “Pastreuben” because it uses pastrami and now I have to ask everybody to stop. Look, one variation on one ingredient - corned beef and pastrami are the same cut of meat, just prepared differently. One is brined, the other is cured - does not warrant changing the name. You know what a pastrami Reuben is called?    A fucking Reuben!   I know I’m a purist about this kind of shit but corned beef versus pastrami is not a sandwich altering choice. Like we all know it’s supposed to use Russian dressing, when was the last time any one of us bitched about thousand island? Not ever and that’s because it’s basically the same thing. Oh, sit down. We’re talking about salad dressing, not the Gaza Strip. One tiny variation does not flip the whole sandwich. I can support the name Rachael for the use of turkey, however, because it’s a completely different animal.    Then there are instances like that warehouse district deli whose name we dare not speak that changed three of five ingredients to the Reuben and still called it a Reuben. Sorry, but a pastrami & Havarti with mustard and coleslaw on pumpernickel rye is not a Reuben. That’s a Randall or a Regina or something.    Alas, today I’m not fucking around with a Reuben because I am not biking a Hobbit’s journey back home with a bellyful of sauerkraut sloshing in my guts and this lady at Richfield City Hall became very animated when recommending this sandwich, the way my mom gets when she recommends Army of Darkness.
Tumblr media
My mom watches only two movies, this and The Goonies.
That and why would I want to try yet another Reuben? Let’s change it up. Let’s not be so predictable. Recall about a week back I had a hankering for biscuits and gravy and I was like, “Woah! A Reuben! Sure has been a long time!”? Yeah, can we not do that every fucking time? That would run the risk of this fucking thing being rebranded Reuben Bully and it’s bad enough that the title as it exists right now hardly makes sense. If I had to explain to my mom that I wrote something called Sandwich Bully, I’d have to spend at least three minutes on the title - and count a hundred eighty seconds, tell me how long that shit feels - and I came up with the title either when I was in that weird place between sleep and wake or on the toilet. I can’t even remember how I came up with it, there’s no way I could explain it, and then to change it to something that sounds like a low budget late eighties / early nineties indie film? No.    What? You don’t - ? What do you mean you don’t see it? Reuben Bully sounds like Henry Fool, you don’t see that? Oh, now you do? OK, good.    I order the sandwich I was recommended, gal at the counter asked if I want some bullshit, some greens, or some other bullshit on the side and I opt for the greens and would I like anything to drink?    Well, the doctor this morning didn’t bust my chops on my drinking but he totally did and then I can’t have sugar anymore...    Yeah. No fat, no salt, no sugar, and I’m not allowed to have a drink anymore to cope with the fact that I will never experience flavor again. He even gave me this funny fucking look because I copped to eating potato chips once a week with my GF. Potato chips. Once a week. I wish I was making that up but no. He gave me a funny fucking look for eating fucking potato chips once a fucking week.    I ask her what they got for sody pop and she says, “Coke, Diet Coke, La Croix... That’s it.”    Seeing as how La Croix tastes like shit - Oh, shut up, it does, too! - I opt for the Coke. Tell my doctor I took it with food.   As I wait for my food, I peruse the rest of the menu board. They’ve also got a Cuban that reads legit and a pulled pork sandwich topped with coleslaw which is ironic because one of my homegirls texted me about “kholeslaw” right about that time (inside joke, I’ll tell you when you’re older) and there’s a muffaletta on the menu, too. Pretty much all of the lunch items look legit. If they had a sampler platter, I might have dared to take that on.    Now, the part you’ve been waiting for, the part you always wait for, the part that justifies my numerous off-road digressions: How the fuck was the sandwich?    The turkey was roasted and seasoned properly, it had a freshly sliced mouthfeel to it and the salty tang striding atop the umami notes. Nothing overpowering in the savory department. The blueberry mostarda - not mustard - was applied just enough to provide a sweet accent, like a bow on top of that brand new Sega Genesis with 16-bit “Blast Processing” sitting under the Xmas tree. The baguette was soft and airy, the crust powdery and giving, unlike other baguettes that send shrapnel every time you think about picking them up off the plate.    Pero la estrella real de esta telenovela Mexicana** que abarca varias generaciones acerca de los salarios del pecado en un contexto de intriga política que satiriza las costumbres sexuales*** would be the Brie, particularly in the saltwater flavor of the intact bits of the rind (not the rind itself, think like the whitish bits of the watermelon). It was smooth, it was creamy, and the briny notes that sat on top almost made me want to say “fishy” when I first tasted it. The bread made sense as the delivery vehicle for this cheese and I believe that the turkey was also a support player for this. I’m just bummed that I’m finding really good cheeses after I realize I’m lactose intolerant. I mean, it’s OK. I can’t have ice cream anymore and I wasn’t really eating a whole lot of that but chances are the doctor’s going to take the fucking cheese thing from me, too...    The greens? They were fine. They weren’t what I showed up for. I didn’t care for the dressing.    But this turkey & brie with blueberry mostarda? I feel like I got my money worth but I’m not in Richfield all that often so it’s hard to say when I’ll go back even if their sandwich menu is legit. The lady at the Richfield City Hall Information Desk gave a solid recommendation. Give them your money.
* White girl who did “the voice” has a black step-dad which still doesn’t justify her doing that. Former coworker just doesn’t hang out with many white folks thus there aren’t many of them on her Instagram. ** I needed no help with that part. *** I went to Google translate for the rest of it, though.
