The music blasting from the speakers, reverberating around the room full of university students, the wretched smell of alcohol mixed with cigarettes lingered in the air as your sharp eyes adorned with perfectly winged liner focused around the room, greeting everyone who was shocked to find you at the party.
It felt good to be back.
Leaving for a boarding school wasn’t on your bucket list, yet it was an opportunity you couldn’t miss, the school being a prestigious one with a degree that would only be helpful in the future, which left you no choice but to disappear for three years, only to suddenly reappear today, straight making an appearance at the party.
“Told you, your celebrity status is still intact,” Yunjin winked at you, her being the only friend who was stubborn enough to not break contact with you, and you loved her for the same.
Raising your brow at her, you took another swing of beer which you had loosely gripped in your hand, “it’s not mine, it all belongs to my brother,” you said, “I don’t want this attention, especially when it’s only valid because I’m Mark’s sister who had a glow up over my time of not being in the town.”
Your brother was well known in the university—the same university which you’d be attending soon along with the people who also attended the same middle school as you, however, his reputation preceded him as he, along with his friends, had turned into the group all girls desired to be with, yet they never let anyone stick around for long.
Settling down wasn’t their forte.
People snogging around every corner of the house wasn’t a sight you were willing to witness, granted you had a long flight and were tired. Not having any ride back home was another factor which made you approach your brother—who wasn’t locked up in a room with some girl for once.
“I wanna go home,” you huffed, standing next to Mark, who was quick to excuse himself from the conversation he was having.
“I can’t drive you back, I’m buzzed dude,” he says, “my baby sis is all grown up,” he looks your way, patting your head before you step back, disgusted at his overly affectionate big brother act.
He acted as if everything was normal when in reality, he was the one who always deprived you of every single thing, not allowing you to go out, not allowing you to meet boys, and most importantly, not letting his friends interact with you.
“Ew, drink this and sober up.” You passed on the water bottle in your hand to him, “how am I supposed to go back? Should I take a cab?”
“No, that’s not safe. You wait here, I’ll get my friend to drop you off,” he asked you to wait by the front door.
The shock on your face was evident, yet it was better to get a ride with one of his friends rather than fending for yourself this late at night. With a nonchalant nod, you walked away, waiting by the door.
It wasn’t hard for Mark to find his group, they were sprawled across the sofa as if they owned it, surrounded by girls sitting around them; or on their lap.
“Who’s not drunk here?” He asked, straight up eliminating Jeno from the list, who was taking big gulps from his can, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down, “minus Jeno.”
Haechan was quick to ignore the girl who was leaning down to kiss him, eyes tired yet lined with the perfect amount of eyeliner—a look he went for whenever a party was concerned.
“I am sober. Driver duties, why?” He asked.
Even though there was nothing but truth in his words, it would be hard to accept it, provided that his eyes were the perfect shade of brown which harboured the ideal amount of brightness during the day, and just the exact amount of intoxication at night.
“I had one beer,” Jaemin said, sitting with a bored expression on his face, probably not in the mood to entertain the girls at the given moment, unlike Jeno and Renjun, who basked in the attention of them.
“Y/n wants to go back home,” Mark explained, grabbing another can of beer, “and I obviously can’t go to drop her off.”
“Y/n? Is she back?” Hyuck asked, playing with his silver rings before unbuttoning the top of his black button up, exposing his chain clad neck and clavicle, which was valid given how hot the room was.
“Yeah, she came back in the afternoon today. Jaem can you drop her back home?” Jaemin chuckles at the offended look Haechan threw his way.
“Of course man,” Jaemin agreed.
“He’s drunk too, in case you overlooked that, I’m the sober one right now,” Hyuck said, pointing out the obvious.
“Yeah, dude there’s no way I’m letting you go alone with my sister,” Mark laughed, “lord knows you can’t keep it in your pants,” he added.
Hyuck was quick to raise his eyebrow, scoffing, pushing his tongue inside his cheek, “and he can?” He asked, pointing at Jaemin.
“He knows where to draw a line, unlike you, and she’s my baby sister, I’m not risking anything,” Mark explained enthusiastically, as if it was a joke, because it caused an uproar of laughter, which only infuriated Hyuck more.
“I know when to stop,” he said, annoyed.
“You didn’t know that when you fucked principal’s daughter,” Jeno provided.
“And when you did so in his office, with cameras installed,” Renjun not so helpfully added.
Hyuck agrees that they were right to a certain extent, but their lack of trust was always something that bothered him. If there was someone who actually didn’t know where to stop, that would be them, because he did not appreciate the insults thrown his way.
It also didn’t help how he genuinely wanted to see you, but now his mood was ruined, courtesy of Mark.
Mark then proceeded to list out a few more things as to prove that Hyuck wasn’t fit for being anywhere close to his sister, “I don’t trust you with her,” he shrugged, asking Jaemin to drop you off and ending the conversation.
Meanwhile, it had been a solid seven minutes and twenty six seconds since you started waiting for Mark’s friend to come and pick you up, and you made sure to put the time into good use by observing your surroundings yet again.
In the farther right corner, you spotted your old crush, Park Sunghoon, who was in your ethics class. He never paid attention to you, granted your brother made sure to warn the whole school population that you were off limits.
You couldn’t deny, it was good to see him happy and you swore you noticed him giggling too, talking to your old classmate, who you remember, was called Moon—one of the beauties of your school, before he pulled her into a sweet kiss.
Your observation was cut short when one of Mark’s friends, whom you had not seen in the past three years appeared in front of you with a small smile. Na Jaemin, he was charming from the bottom to the top.
“Welcome back, Y/n,” he smiled, voice slutry, which came naturally to him.
You offered him a smile in return, shamelessly checking him out, he had gotten buff. You were not expecting him to come here, but then again, your subconscious wanted to see that one boy whose eyes reminded you of honey.
You wondered how he looked now. Does he even remember you? A sigh left your glossy lips as you admitted that you still might have a teeny tiny crush on Lee Haechan after all this while, and deep inside, you wished to see him again.
With a smile, you followed him to the car as he engaged you in a conversation. It was probably the first time he had been given the permission to interact with you, and even he couldn’t deny, he loved to see the development, the confidence that you had come back with.
While you were getting back home, Haechan was fuming with anger, kicking the pavement as he had left the party, his mind formulating ideas for a plausible revenge against everyone. He was rebellious, he’d give himself that, yet in the depth of his heart, he meant well, not wanting to hurt anyone intentionally, only for the sake of having unharmed fun.
It wasn’t as if his friends were any different, so why should he be the one who’s labelled to be the worst of them all? This time, he wanted to hurt someone on purpose, the someone being Mark Lee.
Solution? Get as close to you as humanly possible—which would also mean that he’d have to work to get a place in your heart. But he didn’t mind it, especially when he had liked you all this while.
Mark wanted him to stay away? Tough luck because Hyuck wanted you.
Thinking about you reminded him of when you first met through Mark, he had priorly informed everyone to stay away from you, despite the fact you were in fifth grade, almost isolating you from the world. However, it wasn’t enough for Hyuck to stop greeting you with his gummy smiles, which caused you to smile back at him too.
That’s the most exchange you guys have had over these years. Hyuck was gonna change that, and so, he found himself walking towards your house, knowing well that Mark won’t be around to stop him, and your parents would be deep asleep given that it was past midnight.
Climbing up your room wasn’t hard, especially when he was aware of the ladder kept in your backyard, but being silent after entering your room through a window was tough.
The lights were dim, just how you liked it when you slept. With a few steps, Hyuck reached your bed, eyes fixated on your sleeping figure.
A small, genuine smile graced his face when he noticed the small pout on your moisturized lips. Adorable—that’s how he perceived you, yet there was no denying how much you had grown up to be prettier than ever, and he couldn’t help but caress your cheek with his thumb, even the slightest touch making you stir in your sleep, causing him to chuckle.
He had to have you.
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure if it was a dream or had Hyuck actually visited you at night, though, the latter idea seemed nothing less than a delusion. Maybe it was your brain playing tricks with you, but it wasn’t your biggest concern at the given moment as you wanted nothing more than to freshen up and eat.
What you did not expect was to see your mom catering the four boys sprawled across your living room, the guy in your dream wasn’t anywhere to be seen still.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” your mom sweetly pulled you in her embrace, gaining the attention of your brother and his friends, who were sitting together playing some video games.
“Good morning, mum,” you smiled, having missed her while you were away for school.
“Yo, I almost forgot you were back for a second,” Mark commented as your mom asked everyone to sit down.
You looked at him with a sour expression, “yeah, right. Cause there was no one to tell you that you’re wearing two different designs of socks,” you pointed out, getting a snigger out of Jeno, who passed you a sweet smile when you looked his way, averting his gaze within a second, a habit of all his friends who weren’t allowed to stare at you.
“Or that you’re wearing your T-shirt inside out,” you scrunch your nose as others see a very clueless Mark trying to get everything in order, your mom also amused by the sudden liveliness in the home, “no, but how are you this unaware about yourself?” You mused.
Mark didn’t get to reply or whine when the front door opened to reveal the guy of your dreams, quite literally.
Lee Haechan came into the room as if he owned the place, your eyes fixated on his messy hair as he said hello to your mother, who was more than happy to see him here.
Hyuck was her favourite out of all Mark’s friends.
Other guys were quick to apologize to Hyuck, you wondered why, and Mark had apparently apologized on text last night for crossing the line.
He looked carefree and unbothered, so you didn’t ponder upon it much till he sat down next to you for breakfast, finally looking in your eyes.
You blinked once, focusing on his eyes which looked like they had honey swirling around them, his skin was tanned to the prettiest shade as he passed you a small smile, “hey, Y/n,” he acknowledged your presence, lips almost upturned into what seemed to be a smirk.
For a second, you couldn’t quite focus as you were too enthralled observing the beauty marks scattered across his face, his plump pink lips—
Yeah, that thought shook you awake, “hey, Haechan,” you greeted back, thinking that calling him Hyuck might just be too friendly.
“So, are we on for our trip tomorrow?” Jaemin asked, cutting your interaction short.
“Wait, what trip?” You asked, knowing that your parents were gonna be out for a business trip too, and you weren’t one to enjoy being home alone in such a big house.
“Didn’t Mark tell you?” Your mom asked and shook your head, throwing an accusatory look his way, “They all are having a stay in at Hyuck’s beach house.”
“And me? Am I supposed to be staying alone for what—how many days?” You asked.
“A week,” Mark informed, unaffected.
“I’m not staying home alone for a whole week, mum, this isn’t fair.” The distress was clear on your face.
“Call your friends over then,” your mom suggested.
“For a week? We’d rather go out for vacation too,” you pouted, not noticing the stare of two boys.
“Join the trip with Mark then,” she recommended, placing the fluffy pancake on your plate.
“What? Why? No,” Mark protested and the room bursted into a web of chaos with everyone discussing it.
Only Hyuck was silent, his eyes still on your face, admiring your side view shamelessly, but also careful not to give out his intentions in front of Mark.
“It’s a boys trip, mom. Y’know? Boy stuff,” he winced, trying to explain without explaining that all they planned on doing was drink, smoke and invite girls over, “guys, tell them?”
“Yeah—he’s right,” they all agreed, not maintaining eye contact, looking at each other awkwardly.
“Okay, since the beach house is Hyuck’s, why don’t we let him decide?” Your mom sighs, looking at Hyuck.
Now that the sole attention is on him, he tries to act clueless with a helpless look on his face, especially when you are looking at him with big eyes, lower lip jutting out in a pout.
Then he looked back at his friends, who clearly wanted the girl to go, minus Mark at least. Lastly, he looked at your mom, who only smiled, and that was enough of an excuse for Hyuck to say with the sweetest smile—
“Of course, Y/n and her friend are always invited.”
Tumblr media
“He said yes,” you were on the phone, explaining the whole situation to Yunjin, knowing well that she’d be more than ready to accompany you for your rendezvous.
“He what?” She exclaimed, knowing that the boys would never take your side, especially in front of Mark.
“I know, mom sorta helped cause Haechan never says no to mom, it’s like he’s her favourite child or something,” a humorous laugh left your lips.
“Well, he will be once he becomes your boyfriend,” Yunjin gushed, “we’ll make sure he notices you this time, we’ve got a whole week to make it work.”
You had rushed up the stairs and into your room as soon as the decision had been made, followed by the loud complaints of Mark—which you did not bother to hear, calling Yunjin to fill her in with the situation instead.
She was packing as you were speaking.
In all honesty, it never crossed your mind that you would actually want to seduce Haechan, provided that he was Mark’s friend, which would lead to fights you definitely didn’t wish to be a part of, but you were an adult, so Mark held no authority over you.
There’s nothing wrong with having a little fun after all.
“I’m not giving you a ride,” Mark deadpanned when you got back downstairs, your mother looking at him with disappointment.
“I’ll take a cab then,” you rolled your eyes.
“No need, you’re taking two cars and it’s enough to fit you all,” your mom finally said, “who’s driving?”
“Me and Mark,” Hyuck replied, voice innocent as you turned to look his way, “Mark is taking the bigger one.”
“Is that so? All boys can go with Mark then. Won’t you give a lift to Y/n and Yunjin, Hyuck?” Your mom asked, knowing he won’t say no.
She was good at persuasion, unknowingly giving Haechan the full opportunity to be with you, which is exactly what he was aiming for in the first place.
Haechan only nodded earnestly, eyes almost shining as he looked back at you, “of course, you can ride with me,” he said, ignoring the glare thrown his way by Mark as your name rolled off his tongue, “Y/n.”
As if his voice and gaze wasn’t enough for you to stop breathing in a room full of people, the subtle smirk on his lips successfully had your knees buckling with anticipation.
Tumblr media
Never in a million years you had thought that you’d be riding shotgun in Hyuck’s car, with him driving and humming along to songs under his breath. You had worn the shortest skirt you managed to find in your closet and the little trick had worked as you saw him staring at your legs when you first came downstairs, announcing that you and Yunjin were ready to leave for the trip.
Not only did it grab the attention of the boy you had been targeting, but also it garnered attention of Jaemin, who at least tried to act respectful by gulping and looking away.
Hyuck on the other hand believed that he should blatantly stare at the things which are to be admired, including your legs.
It didn’t take long for you guys to load your bags into his car, as the other one left ten minutes before you guys. Yunjin wasn’t a fan of long drives—two hours in your case, so she put on her AirPods and closed her eyes the second she got into the back seat, also to give you privacy with Haechan.
He drove with one hand, the other resting on his thigh. The rings and chain adorning his body caught your attention for a second too long. His hands were definitely bigger than yours, veins popping out whenever he gripped the steering wheel.
The aura around him was too strong, as if he was a magnet ready to pull everyone towards him, you were no exception.
“Like the rings, darling?” He asked, eyes on the road with the corner of his lip upturned.
The question successfully broke your train of thoughts. It was probably the first conversation you had with him, excluding the usual greetings.
And he kick-started it by calling you darling.
“They’re pretty,” you replied, not letting the nickname phase you, despite heat creeping up your neck.
His smile widened at your answer and he swiftly got a ring off his finger, passing it to you—again, without even looking your way.
“They’ll look prettier on you,” he says ever so smoothly, and you bite your lips, trying to stop the smile from widening as your fingers brush against his, taking the ring and inspecting the design, “don’t wear that in front of the boys though, they’ll flip.”
An amused chuckle left your lips, something which Haechan did not expect, “why? Still scared of Mark and his empty threats?” You asked.
He pissed you off too much with his don’t come near my sister or I’ll make your life a living hell threat to others, and you were bitter about it.
“Now, why would I be scared of Mark?” He scoffed.
“Because you’re one of his friends who aren’t even allowed to look my way,” you said as a matter of fact, breath hitching the second you felt his fingers on your thigh, the warmth of his palm juxtaposing the cold metal of his rings.
The car was stopped at the red light, “I’ve always looked you in the eye, sweetheart,” he whispered, confirming his statement by turning his head and staring right into your eyes, the tension palpable as your gazes locked, the look being too alluring for you to break the eye contact.
His whole demeanour changed in a second when his serious expression morphed into a sweet smile, the kind that makes you melt right before he shifted his focus back on the road as if he hadn’t just provided you a sliver of hope about him being interested in you.
He, however, didn’t bother moving his hand which was gripping your thigh lightly, his fingers were long and looked exceptionally pretty on your skin. You couldn’t help but look out of the window, trying not to let your thoughts get out of hand.
It certainly didn’t help that he was singing explicit romantic songs with all his might while your best friend was sleeping peacefully in the backseat.
Haechan loved every single reaction he got out of you, your little shivers when he caressed your thigh, your breath hitching for the very same reason midway a conversation, and your sweet blabber as you he initiated a conversation.
“How was school?” He asked after a while.
The conversation flowed smoothly after, the ride wasn’t long after all, his hand caressing your thigh throughout the journey, and you wished for it to be longer.
Tumblr media
The beach house wasn’t a house apparently, but a mansion with how grand it was. Meaning, everyone would easily get their own rooms. Mark’s car was already parked as they reached earlier, but you saw Jaemin coming out when he heard the sound of Hyuck’s car, helping you take the bags inside with his ever so charming smile while Yunjin and you silently gushed about the beach view.
Others were busy preparing for the party that was to be held at night—which was news to you.
The interior was in the shades of black, white, and greys, matching Haechan’s personality in a peculiar manner, given that he was filled with colours of all sorts.
You and Yunjin selected the adjacent rooms on the first floor, the balcony giving you a pretty view wasn’t something you’d want to miss out on. Haechan occupying the room which was right in front of your room is another thing which boosted your excitement.
The next few hours flew by as you rested on the beach with Yunjin, soaking up warmth of the sand with the cold ocean waves reaching your toes. It felt peaceful.
“So, what are you gonna wear to woo Haechan today?” Yunjin asked, sipping on her iced beverage.
The sun was about to set, your eyes never leaving the sky which displayed all shades of red, yellow and orange, “what do you mean?”
“I mean that there’s no way they won’t be inviting girls, it was supposed to be a boys trip after all to get their dicks wet,” she said as a matter of fact.
You winced again, not having it in you to watch your brother surrounded by girls.
“And if Haechan was flirting with you, then it’s your chance to flirt back now, given that Mark would be drunk beyond the point of recovery. Not to mention how you’ll have to do something so he doesn’t stray off and give attention to other girls,” Yunjin listed out.
She was right, it wasn’t like you were going to get this chance again, “red dress or black dress?” You asked with a playful smile and she squealed, rushing you into your room to help you get ready.
Tumblr media
The music was blaring by the time you applied the last swatch of lipstick, smacking your lips for the colour to blend in perfectly, complementing your skin tone ever so perfectly. Yunjin doing the same beside you.
You weren’t sure how they managed to gather all this crowd for a party, granted you guys didn’t even live here, yet who would question these boys, an online invite and people would come running to attend their parties.
Which was the case at the given moment as well. The second you stepped out from your assorted room, you found Jeno practically eating a girl’s face off with how passionately they were kissing  right beside the door, the music blaring in the background as you tried to overcome the initial shock of seeing your brother’s friend going what you’d consider wild.
Making your way downstairs, you put on your best confident expression, your eyes immediately looking around, trying to find a certain black haired guy.
Yunjin stopped you, pointing at the corner of the room where Hyuck was sitting with girls surrounding him, Renjun right next to him, a scoff of disbelief leaving your lips when one of them oh so comfortably sat down on his lap, his arm wrapping around her waist so naturally.
Yet you couldn’t deny just how effortlessly attractive he looked in that black button up, the first few buttons undone to reveal his chest. The eyeshadow enhancing the look of his eyes to appear more slutry than they already seemed to be.
Great. This is what you came on this trip for—to see Hyuck tilting the chin of a random girl, shoving his tongue inside her mouth.
This won’t do, you averted your gaze, going straight to get alcohol, any kind would do, you just needed a boost of confidence to work upon your plan. Yunjin knew exactly what you were up to, winking at you before wandering off in the crowd.
“Not dancing tonight?” Jaemin asked, standing right next to you as he poured himself a drink.
His presence made your job easier, especially when he looked so good tonight. His dark hair was a little messy, sleeves rolled up as he was clad in all black, a simple chain adorning his slender neck.
Perfect bait to get a reaction out of Haechan.
If he’d bother to look your way, that is.
“Talking to me tonight? Not scared of my brother anymore?” Your lips curled up, amused.
That earned a laugh out of him, “he’s locked up in a room as we speak,” he said over the music. Translation: he was busy fucking someone and he won’t be here to monitor your moves.
Your nose scrunched, not wanting to think about your brother doing the deed. Jaemin walked alongside you as you took up his offer to dance, but also made sure that you could see Haechan clearly with your spot.
His eyes turned your way for the first time tonight the second you started moving your body along to the rhythm. The distance was fair, yet it felt as if you were the only person in this room and he was the only spectator to your actions.
Jaemin’s hand came to rest on your waist, your body in sync with his moves, the proximity close and a blissful expression on your face.
Again, you subtly looked Hyuck’s way, only to find his eyes darker than ever, not straying away from you for even a second, the girl on his lap long forgotten as he couldn’t find a reason to give her his attention anymore.
Not when you were dancing with Jaemin, not when your dress rode up, revealing your thighs, not when Jaemin whispered in your ear and you giggled, getting closer to him.
He couldn’t stand it, the muscle in his jaw clenched, his tongue pushed against the inside of his cheek with annoyance bubbling up in his body.
You turned around, only to find Haechan missing from the spot he was sitting at. All of a sudden, you excused yourself from Jaemin and made your way around the room, to find him again and you failed to do so.
The room’s atmosphere got stuffy as the night progressed and you made your way upstairs to your room in need of fresh air which was very well provided by the grand balcony.
Just as you twisted the door knob, getting inside the room, you gasped as Hyuck closed the door behind you, pushing you against the wooden surface of the door, his scent taking over your senses seamlessly as you breathed in deeply.
“Hyuck—” you whispered, hyper aware of how close he was to you, his body pressed against yours in a way you could feel his torso muscles. His face tilted ever so slightly, just enough for your noses to brush against each other.
The position alone sent you into a state of frenzy, and he didn’t even let you finish speaking out his name as he chuckled darkly.
“Didn’t know you were into Jaemin, darling,” he whispered, causing you to gulp down the nervousness, which was of no use as your knees felt even weaker with his slender finger tracing your cheek, stopping right by your lips, “dancing with him while wearing the ring that I gave you.” His thumb caressing your bottom lip, parting it ever so slightly, “doesn’t really sound fair to me now, does it, baby?” He asked, stopping his actions and looking your right in the eye.
You couldn’t show him how affected you were with possessiveness laced tone, “I don’t see how it’s unfair, Haechan,” you smiled sweetly, keeping your hand on his chest.
“Wrong,” he said in a beat, “his intentions aren’t pure,” he provided.
You chuckled, turning your face to the side for a second, “what about your intentions?” You dared to ask.
His hold on you tightened, “you wanna know my intentions?” He asked, voice so low it gave you goosebumps as he moved even closer to you, his lips on the verge of touching yours.
They never fully touched, your hand becoming a barrier between you two, “maybe some other day,” you whispered, the expression in his eyes unreadable, “someday when you don’t come here with tainted lips after kissing god knows how many girls,” you smiled tightly, pushing him aside, the alcohol only providing you with unadulterated courage.
He pulled you back, hand wrapped around your wrist so his torso was pressed against your back, which vibrated with his chuckles, “didn’t know it bothered you that much, pretty,” his lips touched your earlobe.
“It doesn’t,” you seethed out, trying not to sound breathless as you shrugged out of his hold, “besides, we mean nothing to each other. I won’t stop you from snogging anyone and you can’t stop me from dancing with anyone.”
That’s all you said before slipping out of his grasp, rushing in and closing the bathroom door behind you and breathing in deeply. The feeling of his touch still lingering on your body, he was jealous as you were and he was so close.
So close to kissing you.
Hyuck leaned against the door on the opposite side of you, “we mean nothing to each other?” He scoffed under his breath, the image of Jaemin’s hands on your waist coming back to his mind. He was wrong to pay attention to someone else, he admits, but now he was determined to give you all his attention.
“You’re mine, you just don’t know that yet,” he says, knowing you won’t be able to hear him, “all mine,” his tone was possessive still as he walked out of the room.
Tumblr media
The boys woke up all hungover the next morning, while you and Yunjin snuck out of the mansion before others woke up, only to avoid Hyuck, which was almost funny given that you were here to get his attention.
Regardless, you sat in this cute cafe you found nearby, explaining the whole situation to your best friend. The slight smirk on her face gave away the fact that she was proud of you for not giving him attention last night. It’ll only make him want you more, she had said.
Mark called you right after you finished your meal, “where are you?” He asked, panicked, “don’t tell me you got kidnapped,” the horror was clear in his voice and you rolled your eyes, not understanding how his brain worked.
“I literally left a note on the fridge that I’ll be out for lunch and shopping, Mark,” you explained, almost laughing when you heard him say oh. He was standing right in front of the fridge apparently.
“Right, have fun,” he said, hanging up the call.
He wasn’t the best brother but he did care. At times, more than he needed to.
“Okay so here’s the plan,” Yunjin started to explain. She loved giving out ideas and they always worked, which is why you found yourself in the swimsuit store, purchasing the one which flattered your body in the best manner.
“And don’t lock your room at night. Knowing Haechan, he would definitely give you a little visit after seeing you pull that stunt.”
The sun was setting and you were almost back at the mansion. You enjoyed the day and it was a great plan to get Hyuck out of your head, even though it wasn’t possible despite the fact that it had been only two days since you came back and met him again.
Tonight’s plan was to have a bonfire by the beach, grill meat and have a good time. Mark had finally accepted and asked everyone to tone down and make the trip more family friendly, hence the bonfire.
The place was empty when you got back in, and you saw the boys setting up the barbecue when you changed into your dress before making your way to join them.
“Remember the plan?” Yunjin asked and you nodded, loving the feel of cold sand beneath your foot.
Hyuck was the first one to notice your presence, his dark eyes fixated on your figure as you walked towards them, Jaemin being the second one as he smiled your way, to which you smiled back sweetly.
You still had Hyuck’s ring on as you approached the place where Hyuck and Jaemin were grilling the meat, Mark was sitting down and playing his guitar while Jeno and Renjun sang along to the song, Yunjin being a great singer also joined those three.
“Can I have a taste?” You asked, looking at Jaemin with hopeful eyes.
The weather was cold yet the burning stare of a certain someone had you feeling all kinds of warmth, yet you didn’t look his way.
“Of course, say ah,” Jaemin said, eyes shining as he held the piece of meat for you and you gladly accepted it, your lips touching his fingers in a caress, the juicy taste making you hum out in pleasure.
In a second, you were turned around, “there’s something on your lips,” Hyuck muttered, expression stoic as he brushed his thumb on your lower lip, “all cleaned.”
You would have laughed at the jealousy had his action not been so intimidating, as if he was warning you not to do this.
“Thanks,” you said, voice extra sweet before you looked back at Jaemin who was confused at the exchange, “can I have more?” You asked.
“Here.” Hyuck shoved a plate in your hands before Jaemin could even reply, “enjoy your food,” he said, smiling but his eye twitched in the process, making you bite your lower lip to contain your laugh yet again and you sat down finally.
“Do you think the water would be cold right now?” Jeno asked no one in general, his intrusive thoughts winning.
“Why? Wanna take a dip?” Mark asked with a laugh, eyebrows raising once he realized that Jeno was serious about it.
“It’ll be fun,” he said as everyone laughed around him.
“There’s no light out here, Jeno,” Renjun said.
“It’ll be fun.”
“The waves are strong too,” Mark reasoned.
“It’ll be fun.”
“Okay, his vocabulary is limited,” Hyuck said, sitting by you as Jaemin handed over the plates to everyone, Mark sparing a glance to make sure Hyuck didn’t sit too close to you.
“We can go one hour after eating, just dip our toes in,” Yunjin suggested and you guys agreed as Mark resumed playing his guitar.
“Have more, Y/n.” Jaemin smiled, giving you more pieces to eat from his own plate.
Haechan didn’t remember the last time he felt so pissed over something this small, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes. It had been two whole days since you made your comeback in his life but those two days were enough for him to want you, granted he did have a crush on you for the longest time, only now it wasn’t just your sweetness he was attracted to.
“Thank you, nana,” you beamed, the nickname only infuriating Hyuck more while you could see Jaemin blush faintly and you truly wondered how all these goofballs pulled girls so easily.
“Nana,” Hyuck mocked under his breath, Yunjin noticing the atmosphere and slightly pushing you towards him.
“You’re doing brilliantly,” she whispered, “he looks like he’ll blow up anytime now.”
It felt nice, sitting in front of the bonfire while listening to others singing. You knew you were trying to make Hyuck jealous yet it was hard not to stare at his face, which basked in the glow of fire. He was already looking your way, noticing how you still had his ring on, which only tempted him to pull you on his lap, yet he knew it was impossible with your brother monitoring his every move.
“Let’s go into the water,” Jeno repeated, as Mark smirked.
“On the count of one, two,” he said, and didn’t even finish before your eyes widened as your brother came to pick you up in hopes of throwing you into the cold water.
Mark was escapable. Jeno on the other hand, not so much and it didn’t help how they both had lifted you up despite your thrashing and whining and ran towards the water.
“Mark I swear I’ll kill you—” you warned and Yunjin had the time of her life recording this whole scene.
Renjun continuously reminded the boys to stay safe while also doing god’s work by providing you with the flashlight set on the highest setting from his phone.
Within a second, you were screaming and thrashing as the boys dropped you into the cold water, laughing and doing the same with a horrified Renjun before rushing towards the mansion, especially Mark, leaving you all cold.
Hyuck rushed to close the flashlight.
You were wearing white, and the water only made your clothes look transparent, which is why Hyuck was taking his jacket off, but yet again, Jaemin was quick to wrap his leather jacket around your shivering frame.
He was glad that you were covered but the annoyance was clear on his face, the amusement long gone even with you muttering and plotting Mark and Jeno’s murder with Renjun.
Nor did he enjoy the sight of Jaemin taking you back to the villa, acting all protective as if he was your knight in shining armour.
“You’re making it so obvious that you’re jealous,” Yunjin quipped, noticing how everyone walked ahead of them, rushing to the mansion.
He laughed out, ending it with a scoff, “I have no reason to be,” he said, voice calm, “she’s mine anyways,” he shrugged, determination clear in his eyes.
“Wow, you’re not even scared to admit it out loud? What if Mark hears?” She asks and Hyuck’s expression sours.
“He wouldn’t approve. That’s a given but that’s not enough to stop me,” he shrugged yet again.
“Okay Mr. Someone is stealing your girl as we speak though,” Yunjin pointed out, a fake sympathetic scowl on her face.
Haechan hated feeling this way, the feeling where things do not go his way. He hadn’t felt this way since—forever. He had everything he wanted, but not you. Mark being a hindrance is something he considered to be normal till some extent, but Jaemin? That’s unacceptable.
“I’ll take care of it.”
Tumblr media
It was one in the morning and you were wrapped up in a blanket, sitting down near the balcony to observe the spectrum of stars which you could have sworn were shining.
Being thrown into the water wasn’t the best experience per se, but you knew it would soon turn into a funny memory you guys would look back at someday in the future. Yet, it wasn’t something you were thinking about much, granted you had better things to ponder about.
Lee Haechan.
You well expected him to show at least a sliver of reaction, some sort of outburst during the evening, however it never came. Either he was plotting revenge or he simply didn’t care enough. Or he was trying to keep it in, your mind tried to reason with you.
You sighed, getting up and closing the sliding doors of the big balcony in hopes of getting a cozy sleep. You needed that warmth after all. Just as you dropped the blanket on the bed, the door swung open—which shouldn’t have happened, given that you were sure you had locked it.
Haechan entered the room, closing the door behind him and you couldn’t help but stand at your place, shocked at his sudden appearance, “how did you—”
“It’s my place, I can get in and out anytime I want,” he replied, voice smooth, giving you goosebumps as he walked closer to you.
He was clad in sweatpants and a white T-shirt, the attire was simple, yet he made it look a hundred times more attractive than the usual.
“Oh,” you breathed out, the dim lights of the room caused his skin to glow a beautiful shade of golden.
There wasn’t a single ounce of jealousy on his face, rather, he looked content with the setting, settling down and sitting on the corner of the bed, his dark eyes staring at you, the silence louder than ever.
“Uhm, so—did you want something?” You asked, wincing at your tone as you suddenly felt conscious under his gaze, slightly aroused too, not knowing what he was actually here for.
He clicked his tongue, looking away for a second before his eyes settled on you for the second time.
Hyuck gave you no time to process anything as his hands grabbed your wrist, pulling you to him in a single hard tug, which had your body stumbling forward and right on his lap.
He held on to your waist, helping you stabilize your balance, “what’s wrong, princess? You were so confident, getting cozy with Jaemin, huh?” He raise his brow, letting the possessiveness show on his face, the I don’t give a fuck facade disappearing.
Your breath hitched with the movement of his fingers on your waist, his thumb rubbing circles on the part where your top had ridden up to expose your skin.
“He was just being nice,” you breathed out, shivering slightly.
He rolled his eyes at your statement, a scoff leaving his lips before he leaned in, earning a gasp out of you. His nose caressed yours, and you were scared to move, his lips hovering above yours.
“Just being nice my ass,” he clicked his tongue yet again, and suddenly you were hyper aware about the fact that you were breathing in the same air, “you wanted to know my intentions, right, princess?” He asked, “then listen, I want you all to myself,” his tone was raspy, your fingers digging into his shoulders for support, “don’t think I didn’t notice your subtle glances towards me, especially when you were with Jaemin,” he chuckled and you gulped, looking elsewhere.
He was quick to grab your chin, making you look right in his eyes, “trying to get me jealous, darling? Well, good for you, it fucking worked.”
“Hyuck—” you whimper, your body heating up as you realized you were sitting right on his crotch.
“Shh, bad girls don’t get to talk,” he shook his head, disappointed, “now what do we do about this? Maybe I’ll just have to claim your body to make you understand that you don’t need to make me jealous to have all my attention,” he suggested.
You could feel the wetness down in your lacy panties and he hadn’t even touched you. Something about the way his voice came out so luscious, something about the way his touch made you feel like putty, something about his eyes made you feel mesmerized.
“Tell me, baby. Can I mark you mine?” He asked and you felt your heart flutter, his voice was gentle when he asked for your consent, and you couldn’t hold back from wanting him anymore, nodding gently, “use your words, love,” he urged, lips parted.
“Yes,” you whispered, grabbing on to him as he bit your lip, eliciting another gasp out of you, a teasing smirk on his face.
“Yeah? You sure you can handle it?” He asked and you tugged on to his collar, impatiently pulling you to him.
“Let’s find out,” you mumbled.
Without any more delay, you closed the distance between you both, his hand coming to rest on your nape, tilting your head to kiss you passionately, his tongue brushing over your lips, parting them with ease for your tongue to graze the tip of his own.
The room felt misty as you continued to kiss, his kisses getting more possessive by second, thinking about how no one else should have you, that you belong to him. He picked you up with ease, putting you underneath him on the bed, his kisses trailing down as you took a deep breath.
“You’re so fucking beautiful,” he mumbled midway kisses, some were long, especially the ones around your clavicle and neck region while the others were feather soft, driving you insane to the point of no return. It only ascended when his fingers finally lifted up your top, exploring the expanse of your skin with teasing touches.
Your back arched as soon as he caresses the area under your tits, before cupping them fully, leaning back to get rid of your top altogether. You couldn’t shy under his gaze, the way he looked at you only boosted your confidence, as if he was a predator hungry for a meal and you were his precious prey, all ready to be devoured.
He had no time to waste, his mouth working fast to lean down, swirling his tongue around your hardened nipples, noticing how you react to his each touch, fondling your other tit, hearing you whimper and beg for more, his name chanting on your lips out of sheer pleasure.
“It’s so fucking cute how your body reacts to every little touch of mine,” he whispered, biting your earlobe in the process, your eyes rolling to the back of your head as he stuffed his pretty fingers inside your shorts, chuckling when he realizes how soiled your lacy panties had gotten, “fuck, I wanna taste that pretty cunt,” he says, taking off his T-shirt before doing the same to your shorts, dragging your panties down alongside it.
You found yourself drooling at the sight of Hyuck’s muscles, he had started going to the gym and the results were clearly visible on his body, but you were ripped out of your thought train when he bit your inner thigh, causing you to clench around nothing, giving you kisses and licks all over, but not touching the part where you needed him the most.
“P—please,” you cried out of frustration, and he immersed himself, licking a big stripe of your wet cunt, genuinely loving the taste as he hummed with satisfaction, holding your thighs open with his strong arms, “oh god,” you moaned out, causing him to smirk against your wetness, pressing sweet kisses to your clit.
It felt like heaven when you were being destroyed by the demon himself.
Hyuck was hard, his thick cock barely containing itself from splitting your pussy into two, but he wanted to see you fall apart on his tongue first, “your cunt,” he said, licking it to make a point, “belongs to me,” he whispered and you nodded.
“It’s yours—all yours!”
“That’s my good fucking girl, you’re all mine,” he said, his tongue prodding at your entrance, fucking your pussy, which gave you more pleasure than you had ever felt through your life.
It didn’t take long for you to feel your lower abdomen tightening, your fingers tugging on his silky black roots as he ate you out like a madman, as if he was drunk in the essence of your pussy. With a cry, you found yourself falling apart all over his tongue and he lapped it up, coming to kiss you right after, letting you taste yourself in his mouth. He knew you’d be overstimulated, but that’s exactly what he was aiming for when he finally pulled out his cock. You knew he’d be thick, but you underestimated him still, knowing well his cock wouldn’t fit in your cunt.
“Gonna claim you mine,” he whispered, intertwining his fingers with yours as he positioned himself on your entrance, “fuck, you’re all mine,” he said, kissing you deeply to absorb all yours moans as he pushed himself inside you.
Your wetness helped him, yet he had to thrust in a few times to bottom out and could feel yourself clenching around him uncontrollably, loving the stretch and also the fact that he was twitching inside of you.
His fingers grabbed your hips in a tight hold as he started pistoning into you at a pace which you hadn’t expected, and you were sure you looked crazy with how your eyes were teary, your hair a mess and your lips swollen, courtesy of the boy who groaned and slapped your cunt, fucking you deeper.
“That’s it, baby, you’re taking me so well,” he praised and you let out broken sentences which he couldn’t comprehend, you were too gone, pushed into your subspace to the point you simply let Hyuck do all the work, moaning and whimpering for him, trying to keep your noises at bay in case anyone wakes up.
Just when you both were about to read your high, he stopped fucking you, making you whimper out in distress, only to have you flipped with your ass up and head down on the pillow.
It didn’t take him a second before he was entering your cunt again, fucking you from behind in hopes of giving you the brutal backshots you deserved, to fuck you in a way that you’ll be ruined forever, not even wanting to go back to another guy for their cock.
This also gave him the perfect opportunity to spank your ass, the hurt only making you clench around him harder.
“Fuck—I’m so—so close,” you sobbed, voice coming out muffled and Hyuck rubbed your clit to stimulate you further.
“Go on, baby. Give me everything,” he urged and you both finally let go, groaning and whining as he filled you up with his cum, mixing it with your juices.
It felt as if the universe had blessed you with the highest amount of unadulterated pleasure one could have, and your eyes closed shut as Hyuck lay down next to you, breathing in and out just as quick as you to regain his strength to breathe properly.
“Y/n,” he whispered, more gently this time, pulling you into a sweet kiss as you smiled into it, finding it amusing that he was the same guy who brutally fucked you not even a few minutes back, “you really are mine, yeah?” He said, caressing your cheek.
“Yeah?” You asked in a whisper and he nodded earnestly, getting a washcloth and helping you into the bathroom, feeling proud when you couldn’t stand up properly.
He was sweet. Sweeter than you had ever expected him to be and that’s why you found yourself kissing him again, and again as you both washed up in the shower, turning it to the point you both couldn’t help but giggle, his forehead resting against yours.
“I really do like you, baby,” he whispered.
“I really like you too, Hyuck,” you replied, feeling happier than you had ever felt, spending a while in his embrace, talking and kissing and eventually, falling asleep in his arms as you both smiled faintly, even in your deep slumber.
Tumblr media
Hurt.
That’s what your body felt the second you blinked open your eyes. Images from last night revisiting you as a montage, a small smile lingered on your face, discarding the fact that you were disappointed, not having Hyuck by your side when you woke up, but then again, it was still better than getting caught by Mark.
With the support of the bedside tables, you managed to stand up on your wobbly feet, stablizing yourself before going into the bathroom to freshen up, you needed that long bath to soothe down your muscles.
Now wrapped up in your bath robe, you passed by the door, only to hear the sound of someone arguing. Curiosity got the best of you as you walked back, twisting the knob to open it just the right amount for it to not be noticeable, gladly the door opened seamlessly.
“Stop playing with her feelings,” Jaemin whisper-yelled, and your heartbeat rose when you saw how it was directed towards Hyuck.
“Who the fuck even said I’m playing with her?” Hyuck asked, his voice full of exasperation and anger.
Jaemin scoffed, you hadn’t seen that expression on his face, ever. “So you’re just gonna go around fucking her right after Mark told you, specifically might I add, to stay away from her. What are you trying to do here? Take revenge by proving a point?”
Your heart dropped hearing that sentence. Sneaking around made sense because Mark would, without any doubts, be against this setting, but what revenge was Jaemin talking about? When did Mark ask Hyuck to stay away from her, specifically at that?
“That’s none of your business,” Hyuck replied, teeth gritted, “besides, weren’t you the one begging for her attention by putting up your good boy act? We aren’t that different, Jaemin,” he mocked, “you only want her cause she’s Mark’s sister.”
Your lip wobbled at his confession, he hadn’t agreed to Jaemin’s claims yet he hadn’t denied it either and suddenly you didn’t feel comfortable, all the positive energy drained as you rushed to get dressed, to get out.
You trusted Hyuck too easily, and you knew you’d have to confront him about this, but you didn’t feel like doing it now. You wanted to go back home, alone, to deal with your inconvenience which would bother you for a while now.
So you did what you had to do: run away from your problems.
You texted Mark that you’d be taking his car, also mentioning it to Yunjin that you’ll be going back home, as you rushed to get dressed up and sneak out of the place without Hyuck knowing, and you were successful in doing so, sighing as soon as you started driving back.
Hyuck thought you were sleeping in, and he couldn’t enter your room with everyone being awake and roaming around, especially when Jaemin knew what you two had done last night.
The reminder only made him smile, as cliche as it sounds, he had never felt this way with other girls, your little confession only made his heart beat faster. You liked him back, and that’s all that mattered.
“Yo, why did Y/n leave? She’s not picking up the calls either?” Hyuck heard Mark ask Yunjin, who knew exactly what was up.
“She’s got some work to take care of, you don’t have to worry about it,” Yunjin patted his shoulder before making her way out to the beach to call you again. She knows you want space, but she also knows you like it when she checks up on you.
Now, that was news to Hyuck, his eyes widening as he rushed to open the door to your room, only to find you weren’t actually there.
“Fuck,” he mumbled, getting his phone out and calling you, only for it to get declined, “no, fuck,” he groaned, thinking about if he upset you in any way, yet he couldn’t understand why you’d leave, especially when you were so happy when you went to sleep.
Or maybe she heard you talking to Jaemin, his subconscious spoke up, making him lose his mind and punch the wall next to him, running down the stairs to follow Yunjin, calling out her name which caused her to pause and remove her sunglasses.
“Where is Y/n?” He asked, breathing heavily.
“Are you playing with her feelings?” She asked instead of replying to his question, “cause if that’s the case then I don’t care if we’re staying at your mansion, I’ll have to kick and break your baby making machine.” Her smile was threatening.
“Oh god, that’s not it!” Hyuck was frustrated, “I’ve liked her since we were kids, I'm not joking around,” he said earnestly, “is she upset, why did she leave?”
Yunjin watched the boy with amusement in her eyes, “you’re so dumb actually. If you like her enough then why aren’t you running after her right now? Get in your car and get your girl, shoo,” she dismissed him and Hyuck didn’t wait to chat about how she shouldn’t shoo him away, rather, he ran to grab his car keys, not paying attention to Renjun who asked why he was in such a hurry.
Hyuck didn’t want any miscommunications whatsoever, it had been an hour since you had left, and it’ll probably be impossible to cover that distance in a short while so he decided to drive faster and get to your place.
“Y/n, baby, please listen to me,” he muttered to himself, trying to call you again.
You weren’t dating. It had barely been a week since you came back, a few days since he had started to get to know this new side of you and he didn’t want it to stop, not when he’s genuinely liked you for so long, minus his fuckboy ways of course.
Mark had tried to call him a few times too, sensing that something was up, yet Hyuck didn’t pick up those calls, focusing on driving till he finally reached your place, relieved to see Mark’s car parked there.
He knew there was an extra key under the third potted plant on the entrance, and that’s exactly what he took and opened the door. The living room was empty, which caused him to rush up the stairs to find you in your room, his chest heaving up and down.
The sudden voice startled you, your mouth going dry at the sight of Hyuck.
You couldn’t avoid him after all.
“Hyuck, is everything okay? What are you doing here—why are you here?” You asked, pretending to be okay.
“Did you hear us in the morning?” He asked, eyes softer than you had ever seen.
You opened your mouth to speak, but stopped, gulping down your emotions before staring at your feet, “I did,” you whispered, “but it’s fine, Hyuck. The sex was great—”
You didn’t look up while rambling, and it was cut short when Hyuck pulled you into his embrace, warmth spreading all over your body with how he held you close to him. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so broken seeing someone’s face, and he couldn’t handle that it was because of him that you felt this hurt.
“That’s not true,” he whispered, holding you tighter, you could feel tears forming in your eyes.
“N—no one’s ever approached me because of Mark,” your voice came out muffled, and Hyuck leaned back slightly just to look at your face, his thumb wiping the stray tear that cascaded down your cheek, “i felt like no one wanted to befriend me for me, all girls wanted to get to him through me and all the boys were so scared,” you laughed pathetically, knowing that your story wasn’t even sob worthy, “but you were the only one who still talked to me, even if it was just greeting me, asking me about my day,” you let out your breath.
“Baby,” Hyuck cupped your cheeks.
“You were the only exception, Hyuck. Maybe that’s the reason I’ve always liked you so much. So tell me, was it all a joke?” You asked, eyes serious.
“It wasn’t,” he shook his head, gulping down before explaining it to you, “it happened at the party when I offered to drop you home but Mark was against it, thinking that I would use you to only fuck you, but that was not my intention I swear,” he says with a frown.
“So that’s what you did,” your voice barely came out, it sounded broken.
“God—no. No. I could never do that to you,” he felt helpless, trying to word his sentence properly, “I’ve liked you since we were kids, and I was heartbroken when you switched schools and cities. But I just got so excited when Mark told us that you were back—I wanted to see you, talk to you, but Mark only gave me a reminder that I couldn’t have you.”
You listened to him, your heart undoubtedly fluttering with how earnest his eyes looked, how the distress of being denied of you flashed clearly on his face.
You really wanted to kiss him.
“And when he gave all those permissions to Jaemin, I couldn’t help it. I never had revenge in my mind Y/n. I like you too much to hurt you, and I know we’re not even dating right now, but I don’t want anyone to ruin it for us even before our story starts and I swear to god I’ll fight Mark if it means that I can have you,” he breathed out, cheeks flushed as he had confessed to someone for the very first time.
You broke into a smile despite the tears in your eyes, “you promise?” You held up your pinky finger.
He laced his pinky finger with yours, tugging it so you stumble slightly, and he takes it as an opportunity to pull you into a deep kiss, his soft lips caressing yours in a possessive hold, promising that he’ll take care of you.
“Good, cause I was going to be really upset if you didn’t,” you mumbled against his lips.
He chuckled before saying, “don’t ever run away from me, yeah?”
You nodded, hugging him back tighter as you felt your anxiety calming down, your smile widening as he kissed your forehead, easing out your worries and you were sure you wanted to give it a try—you wanted to give you both a try.
Yet another problem lingered in your mind.
“So, about Mark,” you winced, knowing it’ll be disastrous.
“Shh, we’ll think about him later,” he mumbled, but the peacefulness wasn’t here to stay for long as a loud voice boomed up, indicating that Jaemin had snitched.
“Lee fucking Donghyuck, I told you to stay away from my sister!” Mark shouted, your eyes widening as you both looked at each other.
“Fuck, hide!”
Despite the chaos of hiding in your closet, you knew that Hyuck would always be your exception.

This was not supposed to happen. You were supposed to be on a plane back to Minnesota right now so you would be home in time for Christmas. But when you arrived at the airport earlier, the board of departures were full of canceled flights including yours. And when you brought your dilemma to the customer service desk, they informed you that all flights out of Vancouver were either booked or canceled through the 26th. The day after Christmas.
That’s how you ended up where you are now. Frantically knocking on your best friend’s front door and trying to hold back the overwhelming urge to cry.
“Come on, come on, come on.” You mutter to yourself, knocking one more time in hopes that the one person you want to see right now will answer.
At that very moment, the door swings open to reveal a cozy but sleepy looking Brock. He’s wearing a pair of gray sweats with an old Canucks t-shirt. His blonde hair is tousled but still somehow looks perfect and his blue eyes light up at the sight of you. You love seeing him like this, so soft and relaxed. The Brock that the media and fans don’t know, but you do.
“Uh, hi. Again.” You say quietly while offering a watery smile.
“Y/N?” Brock asks, still rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. You don’t blame him, it is only six in the morning. “What are you doing here? Aren’t you going home today?”
“Well yeah, but the insane snow storm had other plans. My flight was canceled and I can’t get anything until after Christmas. So I’m kind of stuck here.”
“A week of me wasn’t enough for you?” He teases, that familiar smile brightening up his face. You just shrug in response, your lips just barely tipping up at his playfulness.
Without saying another word, Brock pulls you into his arms for the tightest hug. It takes everything in you not to sob against his sturdy chest as the warmth and comfort he always carries surrounds you.
“I’m going to miss Christmas.” The terrifying admission tumbles from your lips as tears start falling. You’ve never missed a Christmas at home with your family and you can’t imagine spending the magical day stranded halfway across the continent.
“No, you’re not.” Brock murmurs, smoothing your hair down as he holds you. The small gesture immediately makes you feel more at ease. It’s something only he knows that will help calm you down when you’re upset. Before you protest, Brock makes a split second decision. “You’re going to spend Christmas here, with me. We’re going to celebrate Christmas together. And you can stay here since all the hotels are probably booked or mad expensive, it’s just easier.”
It takes a moment for Brock’s words to register in your mind, but when they do, your heart swells. Of course he would welcome you in for a holiday that you weren’t supposed to spend with him. He would do anything for you and he’s been that way since you were kids. But right now, you’re more grateful than ever for his kindness.
“Are you sure? I was only supposed to visit you for a week.” You ask faintly, voicing the only worry that surfaced at his suggestion.
When the University of Minnesota, the school that you’re currently a professor at, announced the dates of winter break, you immediately booked a flight out to Vancouver to spend some much needed time with your best friend. It’s tough to see Brock during the season because classes are also in session and schedules almost never line up. But you weren’t letting this opportunity pass by. The past week has been spent catching up and doing everything that was physically possible together. You couldn’t have been happier you made the trip until the debacle this morning put a damper on the unbelievable happiness you’ve been feeling since you arrived in Vancouver.
“And the weather said a week wasn’t long enough.” Brock says, his tone of voice telling you there was no room for arguments. “I won’t let you spend Christmas alone so we’re doing this, okay? Plus, I don’t think Coolie and Milo will mind having you around for a few more days. You know how much they love you.”
“The dogs aren’t the only ones who love me.” Brock smiles at your playful comment and can’t help but chuckle at the truth of the oblivious statement. The full extent of his feelings for you that he’s been hiding for years is unknown to everyone but himself. And maybe Quinn and Petey. But he won’t admit how he feels about you until he knows the moment’s right, until maybe there’s a chance you feel the same way.
So he shrugs nonchalantly and lets a laugh slip past his lips while ignoring the way his heart races just from looking at you. Before he can say anything in response, you’re surging forward to hug him again.
“Thank you so much, really. It means the world to me. You have no idea.”
“You know I’d do anything for you.” Brock admits, honesty seeping through each word. “Besides, spending Christmas with you just made my holiday a lot more exciting.”
“Please,” You roll your eyes in response, but the softest smile blossoms across your lips and the insane amount of anxiety that was consuming you a few minutes ago has already started to dissipate.
“C’mon,” Brock starts, pulling you through the door and over the threshold of his apartment. “You’re probably exhausted so let’s get you a nap and we’ll go from there.”
There’s no resistance as he leads you to his bedroom, hands you one of his t-shirts and tells you it’ll all be okay. Before you know it, you’re under the blankets, wrapped up in the warmth and coziness of Brock’s bed, drifting off to a much needed sleep.
When you wake up a few hours later, well rested and feeling much better, you find yourself squished between two large dogs. A giggle slips past your lips at the sight.
“Hey guys!” You exclaim, not wasting a second to give both Coolie and Milo some pets. “Lucky you, I’ll be here for a couple more days which means you’ll get plenty of extra snacks.”
“No, they won’t!” Brock calls from somewhere in the apartment, making a laugh bubble up in your throat. Even if your Christmas isn’t going to go as you had planned, you’re glad that you’ll be spending it with your favorite person in the world.
The dogs race ahead of you to find Brock as you start making your way down the hallway. Although you’ve spent a decent amount of time in Brock’s apartment over your weeklong visit, you take a few extra seconds to look over the collection of pictures he has hanging on the wall throughout the hallway. Photos of him with his family, smiling with teammates, namely Petey and Quinn who you know have become his best friends, views from his many trips to different places around the world and of course, snapshots of you and him together.
A smile blossoms on your face as you look over the memories frozen in time in each photo, laughing to yourself at the ridiculous ones Brock has hanging up that feature his teammates and you. But just before you’re about to head down the stairs to find him, one picture catches your eye. You don’t know how you missed it over the last week, but you must have.
Because staring back at you are little versions of you and Brock, flashing big, beaming grins at the camera in front of the sign to the summer camp you both attended for years. That’s how the two of you met and you remember looking forward to the summer just because it meant seeing and spending time with Brock. Even though you both lived in Minnesota, it wasn’t until you were older that you were able to communicate outside penpal letters sent in the mail and the ninety days you spent together on the campground where you both formed memories that will last a lifetime.
You couldn’t have been more than seven in the photo and it’s clear that both of you are happier than ever. That feeling is still present today whenever you’re with Brock, it’s nestled deep within your heart like it belongs there forever and you’ve carried it around for most of your life. It only took you years after he already had moved to Vancouver to realize that happiness can often be mistaken for love.
Shoving those thoughts away, you bound down the stairs to meet your best friend again. There’s a new pep in your step as you’re determined to make the most of every second this Christmas even if it’s not what you expected. You’re here with Brock which is all you could ask for.
A gentle smile is already on your lips when you get to the bottom floor, but you halt almost immediately when you see the scene in front of you. Coolie and Milo are wearing the cutest doggie holiday sweaters and Brock is softly grinning while leaning against the kitchen counter which is full of a wide variety of baking ingredients. And when your eyes look over the living room, you notice a box labeled “ornaments” sitting atop the coffee table, undoubtedly full of all of the beautiful ornaments that were carefully hanging from the branches of Brock’s Christmas tree just hours ago.
“What is-”
“I told you we were celebrating Christmas and we’re going to do it the right way.” Brock simply explains, blue eyes twinkling with joy and you see a flicker of nervousness there too. Like he isn’t sure if you like the gesture.
“Brock,” You breathe out, his name just above a whisper.
“I know you love decorating the tree on Christmas Eve so I just took down the ornaments so we can do it together. And your family always bakes cookies the night before Christmas too and I surprisingly already had most of what we needed for the recipes.”
There aren’t enough words to properly show the gratitude, the love, that’s swelling in your chest so you just cross the room and wrap your arms around him in the tightest embrace. Brock immediately responds, pulling you even closer to him, and for a moment everything feels right.
“Thank you,” The words are quiet, but Brock hears them and presses a delicate kiss to the top of your head. You pray he doesn’t feel the way your heart skips a beat at the sweet action and he must not because he pulls away with a big smile and a hint of mischief mixed with something else you can’t quite place evident in his eyes.
“Of course, you deserve nothing less. What do you want to do first?” He asks, ready to jump into either activity. But it’s right then that everything clicks.
“Wait, you went out in the snow to get the rest of the ingredients we needed?”
“Well, yeah, it’s not too bad. Compared to the snow we used to get at home, this is like nothing.”
“But it’s cold! And how did you get the recipes for my favorite Christmas cookies without-” You trail off, the realization setting in at the same moment Brock speaks up to confirm your suspicions.
“I called your mom. She was more than happy to share the recipes with me when I explained what I was up to. That was the easiest part actually!”
If you weren’t already head over heels in love with him already, this moment would’ve sealed the deal. You can’t believe he went through all this trouble just to make the holiday special when you weren’t even supposed to be here in the first place. Nothing but adoration rushes through your veins and you can feel the blush creeping into your cheeks. Without hesitating, you lean up to kiss his cheek as yet another silent thank you and his skin almost immediately turns pink.
“Alright, let’s do this, yeah?” He asks, distracting you from his reaction to the little gesture the two of you have been doing since you were younger and pulling you into the kitchen. It doesn’t take long for Christmas music to be turned on, filling the air with even more of a festive feeling. Brock makes sure your apron is tied on, just like you do for his, and then you’re off baking. You teach Brock all the techniques you’ve learned over the years from making these recipes and you get the pleasure of seeing him so free and happy.
You want to see him like this for the rest of your life. A big smile on his face, eyes crinkled in happiness and no sign of any stress hanging over him.
“What are we going to do with all these cookies?” The question falls off your lips after Brock slides the last batch into the oven.
“Easy. You’ll take some back home with you so your mom can see how much of an awesome job I did and the rest I’ll give to the team. A lot of them won’t say no to homemade cookies even if it’s the middle of the season.”
“If you say so,” You giggle, not being able to picture his teammates willingly accepting Christmas cookies when they’re in the middle of the best season the team has had in a long time. But you don’t argue, just set aside the best looking cookies that you and Brock decorated for Quinn and Petey, and sneak one to Coolie and Milo too, before getting the kitchen back in order.
After everything is cleaned up so the kitchen doesn’t look like a total disaster anymore and you both enjoy the takeout that Brock ordered for dinner, no time is wasted in moving to the living room to decorate the Christmas tree.
“Okay, where do we start?” You contemplate, gently placing your full mug of hot chocolate on the coffee table while surveying the tree glittering in the corner of the room.
“I forgot how seriously you take decorating for the holidays.” Brock chuckles, opening the box that he put all the ornaments back in earlier. He didn’t really forget, in fact, he missed it more than anything. That’s more than half the reason he spent so much time taking every single bauble off the tree. Yes, he wanted to make sure Christmas was as magical for you as it would’ve been back home, but he also selfishly wanted to share this moment with you too.
And he’d be lying if he said his heart isn’t full to brim right now with what he knows is love. Not that you can tell or would ever know that.
“The tree is serious business!” You exclaim with a chuckle, watching as Brock carefully starts removing ornaments from the box one at a time. He hands you a simple, but gorgeous blue ball to hang up first.
Slowly, but surely, the two of you decorate the tree with the wide variety of ornaments Brock has. He tells you the stories behind the ones his teammates have gifted him, shares the laughter with you when he stumbles across one that has a picture of him as a toddler in the picture frame and recounts the memories of family or solo vacations whenever he hands you one that was clearly bought at a tourist shop. There’s a soft smile on Brock’s face that never disappears and you swear he keeps sneaking glances at you.
The tree becomes more festive as each decoration once again finds a home on its branches and not for the first time today, you forget that this isn’t where you were meant to be for the holiday. But you’re kind of grateful for the snowstorm now. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have gotten to do any of this with the man who you’ve wanted for years.
“It’s done!” You cheer with excitement when you place the last ornament on the tree. “We did a pretty good job. Don’t you think?” Stepping back to admire the beautiful work you both did, your shoulder bumps Brock’s and that familiar shock of warmth floods through your veins at the brief contact.
“It’s the best Christmas tree I’ve ever seen.” Brock responds playfully, but there's a faint tone of seriousness evident in his voice. His eyes are glistening in the glow of the lights and you can’t deny how perfect he looks so cozy and joyful like this.
A few seconds later, without you realizing, Brock slips away to put the box away until it was time to take all the holiday decorations down in a few weeks. But to his surprise, there is one last ornament sitting in the box that was somehow forgotten.
“Y/N,” Brock laughs, picking up the decoration. “We forgot one.”
“No way! What is it?” Nothing but curiosity and excitement is evident in your voice. You cross the room to Brock and lean into his side to see what the mystery ornament is.
And when you get a glimpse, your breath is stolen away. Because in Brock’s hand is a small photo of a grinning little boy and girl sitting together at a picnic table inside a picture frame made of colored popsicle sticks. The two words “best friends” are written in black marker across the bottom of the frame in a neat, but childish looking style of handwriting.
Recognition washes over you instantly.
“I made that,” You start, almost stunned as you look between the homemade ornament and Brock’s face.
“You did. Like decades ago.” Brock chuckles, the sound fills the room with happiness and light. He still remembers the day you gave him this little gift. It was the last day of summer camp and before you both said goodbye with a promise to see each other soon, you gave him the gift. For only being nine years old at the time, Brock thought it was one of the nicest things anyone had ever done for him. Plus, that way he had a little piece of you back home too.
Since then, he’s cherished this adorable, homemade ornament like nothing else. It always seemed a little silly to him, to hold onto a childhood craft, but seeing your reaction right now tells him it means just as much to you as it does to him.
“And you still have it. You kept it all this time?”
“Of course I did.”
“Why?” The question is gentle, but full of genuine interest. There’s a beat of comfortable silence as Brock battles with his thoughts for a moment. He knows this is it. This is the moment he finally tells you how he feels. All of the nerves and worries he had about confessing how his heart beats just for you falls away in mere seconds.
Your brows furrow at the strange look on his face. His blue eyes are full of an emotion you can’t place and the softest smile graces his lips. But more than anything, there’s a trace of clarity on display across his features. His gaze flicks down to your lips a few times before he speaks.
“Because you’re my best friend.” Brock whispers, each word carrying more weight than ever before. “But I don’t think that’s enough for me anymore.” He admits, a weight lifting off his shoulders as the words hang in the air for a moment.
He doesn’t have to say anything else because you know what it is right then. He is in love. With you.
“And you’re my best friend, but I want us to be more too.” Brock’s face practically lights up at your response, knowing that you feel the same way he does. It almost feels like a dream that after years, he doesn’t have to wonder anymore if you have fallen for him too.
“Can I kiss you?” Brock asks with a gentle voice as one hand settles on your hip before pulling you in closer. “We did somehow end up under the mistletoe.” He points up to where the collection of leaves are hanging in the entryway you’re both standing under. You can’t help but laugh at the sight and nothing but pure elation fills your heart.
“Yes, please.”
He cradles your cheek with one hand while the other stays on your hip, keeping you pressed against his body. You can’t help the smile that blossoms on your face before his lips catch yours in the softest, most passionate kiss you’ve ever experienced. The rough feel of his scruff against your smooth skin makes you giggle a little bit, which Brock responds to by deepening the kiss even more.
It’s absolutely perfect. You’ve dreamt of this exact moment more times than you’d like to admit, but it’s everything and more. And by the way Brock is holding you, it’s obvious he’s been waiting for this too.
When he reluctantly pulls away a few seconds later, there’s a new glimmer that you’ve never seen before in his bright blue eyes. He looks like the human form of sunshine right now and you can’t take it. You reach up to brush a lock of blonde hair back off of Brock’s forehead. He gives your hip a reassuring squeeze, a reminder that this is in fact real.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do that.” Brock murmurs, his smile just mere centimeters away from yours.
“I think I do.”
And without hesitation, you lean in to kiss him again. Once because it’s been a long night, twice because it’ll be alright, three times because you waited your whole life.
Before any fears or worries can creep in and ruin the moment, Brock wraps you up in a tight hug. Your head rests against his chest where you can hear his steady heartbeat.
“We’ll figure everything out. I promise.” He says calmly, somehow knowing what your next thought is going to be. “But it’s Christmas Eve and I don’t want to do anything else but enjoy being here with you.”
“I’ve never been so grateful for a snowstorm in my life.” You laugh, pure bliss humming through your body.
“Me either. Who would’ve thought that’s all it would’ve taken for this to finally happen?”
Later that night, when you’re snuggled up with Brock on the couch watching Home Alone while Coolie and Milo sleep nearby, you realize that you did in fact get to spend Christmas at home even though you didn’t make it back to Minnesota. Because Brock is home. Just being in his arms brings you the same kind of comfort and love you cherish so deeply.
Almost as if he can sense that you’re getting lost in your thoughts, Brock raises a brow in silent question when you look up at him. You just smile in response before leaning up to kiss his cheek which earns you a sweet grin.
“Merry Christmas, Brock.”
“Merry Christmas, Y/N.” Brock murmurs softly, brushing your hair behind your ear. “So happy my Christmas wish came true this year.”

After Show
Synopsis: Harry and YN finds some alone time after one of his shows to catch up
CW: Smut
Series Masterlist | More of my work
Tumblr media
One thing YN was so grateful for were the opportunities she gets to travel now more freely.
It gave her a weird ich, even to think about going to a different country alone. Especially when her family doesn't really seem to care about her existence. She feared for her safety because apparently we still live in a world where no one, especially women can't walk alone.
So, when Harry offers to accompany her, she'd now learnt to taked up the offer. Of course only if she can afford the trip, as she doesn't like to rely on him for anything. She's also gotten more confident traveling alone. She'd learnt to get out of her comfort zone and actually talk to people other than just asking for their coffee orders and serve them.
That also gave her a sense of acceptance about herself as she found people who went through, or are going through similar life situations as hers. Yeah, she loves her friends, Alec and Brielle, she would never trade them for anyone else. But it's nice to make mew acquaintances.
Today, she was going to see Harry after a long time. She had unfortunately missed his birthday this year as her family was nice enough to drag her along with them to their relatives' wedding. It was two week affair. And she hadn't seen him since the after new year's.
She saw him at his concert venue directly, with her luggage bag in hand. He had just gotten off doing the soundcheck. He was surprised because he was supposed to meet her back at his (their!) hotel room, her flight was supposed to be delayed which didn't happened and she got to see him early. Least to say he attacked with a bear hug, as she ran towards him and with her limbs wrapped around him.
"I missed you so much!" She mumbled, her face resting in the gap between his neck and her arm.
"I missed you so much too baby!" He scoffed happily, holding onto her tightly so she doesn't fall straight on her butt. She wouldn't let go. Honestly, he doesn't want her to either. "You good?"
"Mhmm." She nodded, and jumped back on her own two feet. Her arms slipped to wrap around his torso as she looked up at him. "Better now. With you."
"Oh my god, you need to stop flirting with me. I'm engaged for god's sake!" He rolled his eyes jokingly.
"I miss you too much when you're gone!" She snuggle her face into fabric of his hoodie. Harry sighed, slipping his fingers through her hair he massaged her scalp gently.
"I miss you too baby." He whispered, "just a month and we'll be getting and off to our honeymoon, then I'm all yours! For now let's go to my green room." He dragged her and her luggage along with him back stage to his green room. "want a cuppa baby?"
"Sure!" She nodded and looked around his room. The sofa was different but the pillows were same, his humidifier, clothes box, his own suit case with regular clothes. It was felt like him and it felt like home to her. "It's cold here, isn't it?"
"Yeah, a little. The AC's on." He said, "don't feel it while I'm performing though."
"Thank you!" She took the cup of tea he gave her and sat next to her.
"How was your flight?" He asked, his hand rested on her thigh as he scooted closer to her.
"It was fine." YN nodded. "I have to tell you something though!" She placed the hot cup of tea to the side.
"What is it, baby?"
"You remember we talked about trying for a baby, right?" She started off, "well, ummm... I talked to my gynaecologist and my physician, I can get off birth control and we can see from there. They have to change up few of my medications like the painkillers I take for my arthritis and start with prenatal vitamins."
"You sure that's fine with you, baby?" He asked, "changing up the medications and all? I know they'll have to cut off a few things which help you, I don't want you in pain all throughout that time. Being pregnant is hard as it is."
"I don't know." She shrugged, "I have never been pregnant before. But we can see."
"Only if you're so sure about it." He sighed not knowing what to say further, "or we have other options we can opt for always."
"Okay..."
"Don't be upset, love!" He sighed, "I said we have other options only if it doesn't work put of us, okay? I just want to make sure you're fine."
"I am." She assured him.
"Okay." He smiled and placed a tender kiss on her cheek, holding her close to him, "would you like to practice baby making after the show then?"
"I would love to!" She chuckled, giving him a kiss on his mouth. Harry pulled her in before she could try to retrieve, buttoning his mouth back on hers. His hand wandered down to her hips back up inside her shirt rather quickly. "Harry, not here please." She managed to speak up, "anyone can walk in on us."
"Yeah, I'm sorry." He sighed, "just missed you so much!"
"I missed you too." She cooed.
They both cuddled for next two hours till he had to get ready for the show, having a nice baby talk. YN fell asleep there.
"Hey baby, do you wanna wake up?" He gave her arm a soft squeeze.
"Hmm?" YN wome up confused.
"Do you want to wake up? I'm about to go on stage in a bit." He shared.
"How long did I sleep for?" She sighed feeling groggy from being woken up from deep sleep.
"A couple of hours."
"Oh, I'm sorry." She sat up, "and yes I'm up now. Want to see you perform."
"Yeah?" He smiled, "well, I have twenty minutes if you want to change to freshen up or something?"
"Yeah, I need to pee. Where is the toilet?"
"The left door." Be pointed behind him. "Wait!" He pulled her back to steal a quick kiss. "Chop-chop baby love." He smack her bum but recieved one right after. "Ouch!"
"Yeah, ouch!" She yawned walking to the bathroom.
......................................................................
"Last kiss and I'll be out!" Harry promised as he stole another kiss from his missus.
"Harry, stop hogging your missus you need to be on the stage, now!" Tom yelled at him.
"Yes!" Harry yelled back. "Stay safe, okay?"
"I will." She nodded, "go break a bone!"
He felt another smack on his butt. "You're gonna pay for it." He challenged her before he was ready to run out.
"Sure." She rolled her eyes and made her way to the little VIP area by the stage where a few of Harry's industry friends were going to be.
YN's not had a good time with Harry's industry friends except the rest of 1D boys and his immediate work friends like, Jeffery and his wife, Tom, Tyler and the Love Band, well in short his immediate circle of friends. She still had a good amount of amazing people to hang out with whilst her soon-to-be husband worked.
Harry came up on the stage, YN was stood at the side back stage where she can watch him perform. He's like a toddler running around the stage, stumbling and even falling sometimes. Throughout he kept looking at her and smiling.
He's indeed very happy today, especially now his soon-to-be wife is by his side.
He was so happy that he still had the adrenaline pumping through his body when they got back to their room hotel.
"Ow!" YN gasped when he pinned her to the wall, one shoe off as she was stopped by him. He smeared his lips over hers, gathering her hands behind her back. She knew exactly where this was going to go and she didn't mind at all.
It reminded her of their first time. Similar situation, he had just gotten home from a heavy workout session all sweaty. Leading her to his bedroom upstairs, leaving her on the bed for a moment before he went and washed his hands. He debunked that thing for her which she always watched in the movies. And he gave her a head. That's all they did that night. And oh boy did she enjoyed every milliseconds of it, and still remember. YN shocked herself with how comfortable she is with him now versus she was the first time around.
He took off his jacket and threw it on the floor as he picked her up with his hands on her bum. He made his way to the bed, placed her carefully on the mattress as he managed to fit between her thighs. He broke the kiss to give her a breather.
"I missed you so much!" He mumbled leaving a chaste of sloppy wet kissed down her jawline to her neck. A moan slipped through her mouth when she felt his hand on her breast. He lifted his head up to press another kiss on her mouth. "Is it alright if go down on you?"
"Wait..." She stopped him, "haven't shaved down there."
He looked at her in disbelief, "does it look like I care, baby!" It wasn't a question though, "still okay?"
"Mhmm." She nodded, feeling a shiver run down her spine. She missed him as well, in every way. But this not their usual thing after being away for months. They usually get a take out, watch TV or just catch up because Harry always tired and jet lagged. Even though he's a horny animal, she's suggest against his needs and make him rest first.
Her man doesn't like to rest.
With one last kiss on her mouth he got to unbuttoning her jeans and taking them off with her knickers. She layed there vulnerable, visibility wet and dripping. Before she could get another moment to get awkward his mouth was on her clit. As much as he loves to make her come with just his mouth, she loves that too.
Feeling his warm tongue move against her already sensitive and swollen bud of nerves, how his fingers occasionally slip inside of her wet hole. Making her squirm under him. Just to replace his digits with his tongue. He's a skill full man.
"Oh, I'm so close!" She muttered with her voice now becoming more breathy and heavy. It's been what feel like an eternity but mostly because they've been away for so long from one another. The feel of his warmth tongue and his digits now pumping inside of her was pushing her just closer to the edge of her orgasm.
"You gonna come for me, baby?" He asked before he gave her clit another hard suck all the while pumping his fingers in ger pussy, "come for me, yeah?" It wasn't long until she was reaching her orgasm. "Was that good?"
"Amazing!" She chuckled, his weight on top of her as he kissed her cheek moving to her neck. "It tickles."
"I love you."
"And I love you more."
"Not a chance!" He scoffed jokingly, "I love you more. And I am sweaty."
"I don't care, I've missed you!" With her arms around his neck it was enough of a que for him to kiss her again.
"Wanna hop in the shower with me then, baby?" He suggested, finally giving her a moment to breathe.
"Mhmm." She nodded. He briefly crouched to take her off her shoe which he barely gave her a moment to take off herself. Slipped off his shoes as he guided her to the bathroom.
"Is that my hoodie?" He realised-- rather late-- she was wearing his black hoodie with 'DAMN.' written on it as he washed up his hands.
"Our hoodie you mean? Yes." She admitted.
"Cheeky!" Harry chuckled, "c'mere." He placed his hands on her hips he propped her up on the wash besin counter. "Want this off?"
"Yes please." She nodded. Despite him being careful, the fabric got caught in her necklace. "Whoops!"
"It's alright." He fixed it quickly as she sat there giggling. It was like the very first time, how her shirt caught up on her earring and she apologised for laughing at that silly thing. "Remember how flustered you were the first time?" He pressed a kiss on her cheek and chin with his arms wrapped around her naked torso.
"Still embarrassed about tha--" her body shuddered feeling his fingertips run feathery strokes on her spine, wetness in between her legs growing once again.
"Still find it to be the most adorable thing." He moved down to her to her neck, leaving a trail of feathery kisses on her warm skin, finally he looked up to place firm kiss on her mouth, "it makes everything feel so much more better. Remember how I got a cramp in my leg the other day?"
"Yeah, you were screaming in a high pitched voice." She giggled.
"Well, I'm not embarrassed about that because it was my fault I didn't drink enough water that day." He explained, "we can have a little laugh you know." With that be picked her up and walked in the shower to place her back on her feet carefully. He took a moment to shed his pants and boxers, the evident kind of hard on of his was now on a full show.
"Harry it's too cold!" She gasped feeling the water fall over her body.
"If I up the temperature, we're going to be boiled by the end." He pointed out.
"It's not that hot!" She argued, and turned rhe heat up just a tiny bit. "Please?"
"It's summer!" He groaned in defeat. She still kept on her cheeky puppy face to convince him as be buttoned her mouth on his standing on her tippy toes. "You're lucky I love you."
"The luckiest one." Her hand slowly crept downwards over his chest and pecks.
"Cheeky!" He kissed her her again. He still enough of her, he hopes it stays that way. Just as he was about to say something, he felt her warm hand wrapped his hardene penis. "Fuck, fuck!"
"Can we go now?" He asked, "just missed you so much!"
"Yes!" She nodded, as she did his hand was behind her knee lifting her leg up at the same time pushing her against the shower wall. Slowly slipping in through her folds. Just heavy breathing to be heard, especially from Harry. Low grunk and cussing in his voice which only grew deeper.
Air in her lungs gor sucked out when he started moving. His hard and deep thrusts making a new rhythm, making her wrap her arms around him for support.
"God I missed you so much!" His forehead rested on her, "so warm for me." It wasn't enough, he slip out, turned her around to slip right back in her. He picked up his pace, making her orgasm right again.
Least to say, they spent about half an hour there.
......................................................................
"Can we order Pizza?" YN asked, as she tied her bathrobe tie around her waist. Harry had already placed her back on the counter.
"Of course baby, which one do you want?" He was already walking out to grab the hotel phone.
"A small cheese one, thank you." He ordered for the pizza and went back to her, "wanna help you with that." He stopped her as she was about do the last few steps of her skin care. Well, it was just four steps, step was done in the shower. Last two were serum and moisturising.
Harry loves to pamper her.
"Here lemme do that too!" She pulled her Fiancé back towards her caging him in between her legs.
YN placed a few dots on the moisturiser on his cheeks, his forehead, his chin and lastly on his nose for comedic purposes. She proceeded to work the product in his skin, his prominent stubble was poked the skin of her palms. He looked like a little kitten being petted, as she ran her thumbs on the apples of his cheeks.
"Done!" She announced.
"Do you want to be little spoon?" He asked as he picked her up again with one on her back and other behind her knees.
"You know I'm never going to say no to that." She booped his nose, "and you got to let me walk, bestie."
"Just fucked the shit out of you and you're calling me bestie?" He cocked his eye brow up carefully placing her back on her feet just for her to cling back onto him. She tried her best to stand on her wobbly legs, but she was scooped right off her feet and carried to their shared bed.
"I loved it though."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah!" She nodded. But they were interrupted by the room service.
"The pizza is here, your majesty!" He presented her the pizza in a grant way along with a bottle of water, though he took a sip of it first. "Asked them put extra cheese on it for you my love."
"Thank you!" She grinned.
Harry lied next to her on his spot over his tummy, dressed in his purple bathrobe. "So, about the baby?"
"Hmm?"
"Are we good now, or do we have to wait till to start trying?"
"Still need to get off birth control." She shared.
"Wait, doesn't that help you with your period?" He realised.
"Kind of, but I think I can go without those now, it's complicated. So these other medications for my arthritis made my period have rave parties every month, it should be good as I'd have to stop taking those meds and switch to something else." She explained, offering him a bite of her pizza which he accepted. "Do you want to go with me to the next appointment? It's after the tour is finished."
"Of course I'd love to go with you darling." He agreed, "and about the wedding. Did you find a dress yet?"
"No..." She pouted, "my grandma doesn't want me to get a white dress."
"Why so, isn't that the traditional colour?"
"Not in India." She smiled sheepishly, "well, everyone does whatever they want now-a-days but my grandma's a little old fashioned. And white is worn at funerals generally."
"Oh, it's so different everywhere then!" He never thought about it until now, "what colour do you want to get then?"
"I want a white, but ahe wants me to get a red one. She said 'You're not having your funeral, you're getting married', it pissed me off. Not like she's paying a single penny. Just not going to take her or my mum to the next appointment at this boutique Brielle found." She shared mocking her grandma's way of talking, giving him yet another bite of her pizza and he was eating it. "Like she's ever going to be invited to either of those."
"Hey, don't say that!" He gasped.
"Right, she won't live that long anyway."
"Oh god, you're a meanie." He gasped again, "big, big, big meanie!"
"Yeah? And that old wrinkly lady isn't?" She chuckled, "she was trying to find me a guy at my sister's. I was fourteen years old!"
"Touché."
"Yeah, and she did. A thirty-two year old man." She added. "Luckily my parents got minds of their own and stood up for me."
"What the fuck!"
"Yeah." She nodded. "He was rich actually, he owned a big finance and insurance company in Saudi."
"So he is rich, rich?" He was stunned.
"Yup, a turn of about eighty-five mil to one billion." She shared, "he died though, Cardiac arrest, five years ago."
"A big loss." He scrunched up his nose.
"Meh, I don't care." She rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, and now you've a Fiancé who's a decent, indie singer." He nodded, "worth it."
"You are anything but Indie, darling." She laughed. "My wait was worth though, now I can be a trophy wife I want to." She leaned back over the fluffy pillow.
"Oh definitely wouldn't mind that." He agreed and scooted closer to sit next to her taking a yet another bite of the slice in her hand, maintaining a eye contact.
"What in the Italian Christian Grey!" She almost choked on the dough in the mouth.
"What's gotten into you today?" Harry laughed, he fetched water just in case. "Being so funny, did you get accidentally drunk?"
"That was sexy not gonna lie." She shared ignoring his remarks.
"Well," he blushed.
"Awh, look at you blushing, my shy baby!" She cooed leaning forward to kiss his cheek. Just just make him giggle again as he chewed on the fold.
Alas he pulled himself together and draped his arm around her shoulder to bring her closer to him. She was just too busy dipping the crust in the complimentary cheese dip.
"Where do you fancy going to for our honeymoon?" He asked. To be honest they planned anything of their honeymoon. Harry wants it to be special and somewhere she haven't been to before, which is a lot of places. He's just lucky he gets paid to travel and perform in diffe parts of the world.
"I don't quite know yet," she spoke with her mouth full of food, "is there anywhere you want to go?"
"I want to know where you want to go, baby." He pushed the baby hairs off her face, "just want to listen to you with this."
"Finally!" She gasped dramatically. Harry has taken almost everything about the wedding planning on himself. "Finally you admitted it!"
"Hey!"
"No, you've taken over everything. I don't know how you switched the plan of The Savoy hotel to your house in Italy!" She sighed dramatically. "The Gucci room isn't available on our wedding, is it?"
"It is, but figured it would be more private if we got married on our own property, baby." He explained, "everything we have, we share now."
"Okay." She nodded, "I don't know how long I'd be able to take on the break for. I guess we can go somewhere near England?"
"Doesn't matter baby, just tell me two of your dream vacation countries or cities and I'll take you there." He said, "and the owner of your cafe is my school friend, I can talk to him for you."
"What?" She almost chocked on cheese and dough, "he's your friend and you never told me that?"
"Well, I never got the chance to.' he shrugged sheepishly, "but I can still talk to him."
"I don't know, I love my job." She pouted. "I don't want him to fire me."
"He won't baby." Harry assured her, "now come on give me two names."
"We can either go to Puerto Rico or Greece?"
"Those are amazing options!" He never thought of those places, "and I've never been to countries. How about we go to both? We can spend a month in Puerto Rico and a month in Greece."
"That's a lot."
"No it's not." He countered, "I've been touring for two and half years, I deserve a long, long honeymoon and vacation with my wife by my side."
"What about our new house? We haven't even started looking for one." She reminded him.
Look, YN can either afford to pay at least some amount for the house or spend it all on their honeymoon plans. No way in heavens Harry's gonna make the trip cheap. He'll find his way to make it extravagant. She'd feel too bad if he's the only one paying for everything.
"We'll start looking for one as soon as we get back." He assured her, "and we have a lot more work to do, we have a baby to make!"
"Yes we do." She blushed. "But seriously, Harry, I don't think I can afford a trip that long."
"Baby!" He cooed, "it's a wedding present from me to you. And you're refusing for me to get you an actual present. So this is perfect."
"I'd feel too bad." She pouted, "you won't let me get you anything either."
"I'm sure you're not going to sit still until you get me anything, baby, so I'd say it's fair enough." He pointed out, "come on, please? Let me take you somewhere you've always wanted to go!"
"Okay, let's go to Greece but just for two weeks."
"Four?" He negotiated.
"Okay!" She sighed in defeat, there is no point in negotiating with his there. He's going to just tease her further. They sealed their deal with a kiss. "Oh god, why is this so stressful? We have to register for our marriage certificate."
"We'll have my lawyer do that for us, baby, don't worry about it." He assured her.
"Can I tell you something?"
"Anything."
"I, uhhhh, want to take your last name." She shared hesitantly.
"You want to?" He looked rather shocked.
"Mhmm." She nodded, "you don't mind that right, you seem shocked?"
"Of course I don't baby. I just did not expect that, yes. But I'm happy either way." He shrugged. "You really want to do that?"
"Mhmm." She nodded snuggling closer to him.
They talked more about their wedding planning, and preparations until one of them was fast asleep. Well, it was YN fell asleep first.

dare i ask what lukes reaction would be to five star trying to break up with him because of the hate from his fans 😆 i love angst
well.... the angst monster got all of us in a chokehold i guess because i ran to my laptop to answer this ask!
i think five star would try to break up with luke a few months after luke told the world about their relationship (after that ellen-esque interview i referenced in this ask). i imagine it's over summer break and five star and clar are spending the break touring with the band. and luke notices that five star is acting strangely distant with him.
like i'm talking you kissed him (a peck which left luke pretty sad) once when he picked you up from the airport and gave him a side hug and chose to sit in the backseat with clarisse instead of sitting shotgun next to him (which also ticked chris off a little bit because he wanted to spend time with his girlfriend, but you didn't want to leave clar's side)
and when you get to the hotel that they're staying at, luke is trying to talk to you and kiss you because he just missed you so much. but you keep saying that the flight got you so tired and you just want to sleep. and luke doesn't wanna push you so he lets you sleep. he tries to keep himself busy, watching videos on his phone while he's sitting on the couch (with his airpods in of course, he didn't want to wake you) but then his airpods die and he hears this weird notification on your phone. so he looks just because he's curious and he sees that you had notifications on for google flight trackers and you're looking up one way flights to go home two days from today...?
his heart sinks to his stomach because why were you already looking at flights to leave? you just got here. did you not want to spend summer with him anymore? he was really looking forward to spending his days with you, like how it used to be back at camp. and he just kind of spirals a little bit.
he leaves the hotel room and marches over to chris' room because he really needed to talk to his best friend. he would ask you and talk to you but he didn't want to wake you because what if he was just in his head and you really were just tired? so he knocks on chris' door and chris (annoyed) tells him to go away and luke cringes because he realizes that clarisse is there and if you and him were on better terms, he would probably also not open the door for anyone.
so he goes back to his room only to realize that he locked himself out. he sits outside and keeps watching his little videos until his phone dies to try to distract himself from going crazy and he dozes off leaning on the door. when you wake up in the middle of the night to go use the bathroom and you realize you're alone in the room, you're immediately grabbing your wallet and keys to look for luke because it's not like him to disappear without telling you.
turns out, you didn't have to look too far because the minute you open the door, luke falls to the ground with a soft 'ow' and he looks at you apologetically for waking you. and it makes your heart crumble because he was so cute and sweet and you've been such a bitch to him since you got there.
you tell him to get up and let him in the room and he's timid and worried and anxious because it feels like the other shoe is about to drop. and when it does, you're sitting on the foot of the bed you're supposed to share and you're crying and luke feels torn because he wants to kiss your tears away but you're literally breaking up with him.
and by the time you finish your sentence, it feels like luke's heart was pierced by an arrow and all he can say is "what did i do?"
goddamn luke castellan. of course his first instinct is to assume that he wasn't enough and your heart constricts in your chest and then you're sobbing about how much it hurts seeing what people said about you online and it's starting to feel like you'll never be enough for him.
the minute those words leave your lips, luke's eyes are all watery and he's kinda laughing, not because he doesn't think the situation wasn't serious but because he just can't believe that you still don't get how much he loves you. when you hear him laughing, you're looking at him all confused (and a little hurt that he's joking about this) and he instantly grabs your face in your hands and kisses you the way he's been wanting to kiss you since you got here.
the kiss is messy and there's so much tears involved but when he finally pulls away, he's mumbling things you can't comprehend because the kiss left you breathless and dizzy and cursing at yourself for even thinking about letting this go.
and luke is calling you five star like he always does and makes some dramatic declaration about how if you tried to break up with him again, he'd probably die of heartbreak and you'd tell him he's being dramatic but he's soooo serious.
he'll kiss you over and over and just sigh in your mouth about how much he missed you and all you can do is cling to him (but he's not complaining because if he had it his way, he would stay glued to you forever) and you spend the night in luke's arms telling him about everything that's been building up and he listens until you're out of words.
at their next show, the band debuts an unreleased song (which gets pirated and uploaded as a podcast episode on spotify) called 17 (by pink sweat$) and while the crowd is cheering for them, he looks to the side of the stage and blows you a kiss.

Tumblr media
Pairing : Aaron Hotchner x Fem!Reader

A/n : this was supposed to be more angsty but I didn't feel like re-writting it :) and this is a little old so it's not the best (sorry for any mistakes I missed 🥲)
masterlist
who I write for + request rules
To say that you were tired was an understatement. You were exhausted. This job was taking far too much from you. It had taken so much from you, to the point where you felt nothing. You were simply empty and you wanted to quit your job so badly. You were exhausted and burned out and all you wanted was to leave and not look back. But you stayed because of your boyfriend Aaron.
That was before it all came crashing down. You had just gotten back to the BAU building and Aaron had avoided looking at you or speaking to you for the whole flight back. He was still mad at you, after you and Derek for running into a building where the unsub was without backup. Which was not the best move but you didn’t want more people to get hurt because of the unsub
“Y/l/n, my office now.” Hotch said in a stern voice, not wanting to make him even more mad. You just dropped your bag next to your desk and walked over to his office. “Close the door.” Was all he said not even glancing up at you. “Look Aaron if you are still-” You didn’t even get to finish your sentence before he stood up and walked over to you with a stern expression on his face. “You disobeyed my direct orders and you put your coworkers in danger by running into that building. Right after I told you to wait for backup. Do you know how badly that could've ended? How am I supposed to not be mad at you? And do not Aaron me. I’m your boss, not your friend. Why do I always have to take care of you?”  He yelled at you.
You took a small step back, with tears gathering in your eyes. You just didn’t say anything to him, you just stared at the ground. “Do you understand how stupid of a move that was? You could've gotten yourself killed or worse. You're done for today, Agent Y/l/n. And until I decide what to do with you, I don’t want you here or anywhere near me or Jack.” He raised his voice at you once again.
You could feel that you were about to start crying. In response you just nodded softly and muttered “Understood Sir.” Walking out of his office you quickly ran down the steps and grabbed your go-bag and ran out of the office before your coworkers could see your tears. Emily tried to stop you, but you just walked past her and towards the elevator.
Aaron felt guilty, he shouldn't have yelled at you like that. But he was so mad at you since he didn’t want to lose yet another person he loved. He was tired and overworked, but he knew that isn't an excuse for being a jerk to you.
For you that was it, you had had enough. You were exhausted and humiliated, this job and relationship was taking far too much from you.
So that's when you decided to quit, you've been thinking about quitting for a while, but you never had the guts to do so.
Walking over to your desk, you pulled out the sheet of paper that has been sitting there for a few months and filled it out. You had made up your mind already. There was no going back now.
Thinking about your future you always pictured Aaron and Jack in it, but now you weren’t so sure. Aaron started being distant and he would snap at you a lot, just like he did in the office a few hours ago. You were tired and as much as you loved both Aaron and Jack, you knew staying would make it all worse.
After making a few calls to some friends, one of them offered you a job in Chicago and they also offered for you to live with them. Seeing this as your chance to get away from your current life, you agreed. It was an impulsive decision, but you knew it was probably for the best.
A few days later that friend flew over to help you pack everything you might need. When you finished packing and had everything ready to leave, you asked your friend if they could drive with you to the BAU to hand over your resignation and badge and everything.
Your friend decided to stay in the car, saying that it’s best if you go in alone. Riding the elevator up, you smiled softly. You knew you would miss your team a lot. Especially Emily, JJ & Penelope, since sometimes you would all go out together or have a girls night in, you knew you would miss being able to spend time with them, but you knew it was for the best. Taking a deep breath you walked out of the elevator and through the glass doors.
“Guys look who's here.” Derek yelled getting up and walking over to hug you. “OMG Y/n, I missed you so much!” Penelope exclaimed, running over to pull you into a tight embrace. JJ and Emily also walked over to say hello. “So what brings you here?” Derek asked curiously. “Uh well I’m actually here to hand this over.” You replied showing them the resignation form. Their faces immediately fell seeing it. “W-what? You're leaving us?” Pen asked in shock. “I got a new job offer in Chicago and I decided to take it. This job really took a toll on me so I decided to quit.” You smiled sadly at them.
Hearing his office door open, didn’t even look up. You just looked at your coworkers and seeing their sad expressions made you tear up. Derek pulled you into a big and warm hug, whispering into your ear he said “I’m gonna miss you so much. I’m only a phone call away in case anything happens or I need to kick someone's ass alright? And stay safe for me.” He smiled sadly, kissing the side of your forehead softly.
Derek was like the older brother you never had. Always making sure you were alright and if you were having a bad day he would try and make you laugh with his silly jokes. JJ, Emily and Penenlope also hugged you saying that they would miss you a lot and making you promise that soon you’d come and see them so you could all have a girls night together.
“Y/n, what are you doing here?” Aaron asked in confusion, he wanted to call you and apologise for everything but he never had the guts to do it. “I’m just here to give in my resignation and my badge Sir. So you no longer have to bother looking after me.” You replied coldly. Handing him the paper he looked shocked and confused. “Y/n-” He started, but you cut him off saying. “I already have found a new job and I’m moving so don’t even bother with it. Oh and this whole relationship is over. Since as you said you don’t want me near you or Jack, so I’m just respecting your decision.” “That’s not what I meant Y/n, you know that. I was just mad.” He said softly looking at you trying to read your expression. “Just because you are mad doesn’t mean you have the right to take out your anger on someone.” You said coldly, handing him your badge before walking out of the BAU once and for all.
Taking one last glance at the building you got into the car, driving away ready to start your new life.

Harry Styles is your sworn enemy. You've decided to take a holiday in the Scottish Highlands, and so has he. And there's only one bed…
~~~
A/N: Hiiiiii! I think I announced this like 3 months ago and never finished it, but we're finally here! I actually really fucking love this story. I've never done this 'one bed' trope before, nor an enemies-to-lovers OU, because EVERYONE loves H man, right? Well, not this YN. And he's not too fond of her either. I'm really excited to share it with you. Again, what started as a one shot grew into a two-parter because I simply cannot contain myself when the ball starts rolling. Anyhoo, to my forever friend @all-things-fic, thank you as always for reading this through and making me snort at your comments and being the ultimate validator <3
Word Count: 13,261 Trigger Warnings: Swearing (obvs), vomiting, bed-sharing with a sexy man
~~~
Rain. Persistent, unabated, never-ending, relentless rain. It was all you’d heard and seen all day and you were sick of it. You’d never really minded it until today, but thanks to one shit-show after another, you were ready to relinquish it. You wanted it gone. Your summer holiday was already off to a bad start.
“Bad day?”
Where to begin?
A cabin in the Scottish Highlands had sounded like the perfect escape for a four-week break away from the city. You had work to do, deadlines to meet, but at least you could do it without being interrupted. Without the sounds of pedestrians and car horns and wayward seagulls and bike bells. Yep, the Highlands still sounded perfect, but the endless string of catastrophes made you wonder if it really was perfect or rather just a ridiculous indulgence.
No. You deserved this break. Bad day or not, the holiday was needed.
When your brother had told you a year ago that he’d bought a holiday home in the Highlands you hadn’t exactly been surprised. He and his wife had been talking about it for years, and he’d finally earned enough money through his music career to be able to do it. Sadly, with your own deadlines and packed schedule, this was the first time in said year you’d been able to find time to go.
Apparently the all-knowing entity in your life had other plans.
You were supposed to come by plane first thing this morning, but your car had broken down on the way to the airport and you spent 3 hours waiting for the AA to rescue you. You had then managed to rearrange your flight to a later one, but because of the weather, all other flights out of Bristol had been cancelled for the day. You then spent a ridiculous amount of money on a 10 hour train from Bristol to Inverness with a change at Edinburgh in between, and were now forking out on a taxi to take you the rest of the way.
At that particular point in time, a cabin in the middle of nowhere seemed like a dreadful fucking idea.
“Could say that.” You managed weakly.
The driver chuckled to himself and you tried not to squeal. “Nearly there now. Fifteen minutes or so.”
There is a God!
Forty-five minutes later he finally stopped in the middle of a single track road. Your eyelid had been twitching for half that time, and a headache was forming in your left temple.
He turned over his shoulder and flashed a grin. He was missing an incisor and three of his other teeth were gold. “This is as far as I can get you. Cabin is at the top of that hill.”
You gave him a look, then peered out the window. All you could see was rain and mud and a black night. “What hill?”
“You’ll find it. Fare is sixty.”
“Sixty quid?”
He nodded. “Scottish if you’ve got ‘em. I’m a collector.”
“We agreed on forty. And no, I don’t have any bloody Scottish notes.” A Scottish man collecting Scottish money! On what planet?!
“No, sixty.”
You muttered expletives under your breath and shoved the money at him over his shoulder.
“Y’alright gettin’ your own case, love? Don’t really want t’ get wet.”
“Un-fucking-believable.”
In the shittiest, snappiest manner you could muster, you got out of the car and retrieved your luggage from the boot, slamming every door you touched. The driver immediately pulled off once the boot was closed, pipping his horn.
“Wanker!” You yelled after him.
Finding your bearings, you located the ‘hill’ he’d been talking about, forcing down your frustration at the size of the damn thing as you started up the pathway. You dragged your suitcase behind you through the mud, grateful it had a hard and waterproof plastic exterior. At least after all this you’d be able to take a shower and change into clean clothes.
It took you an embarrassing amount of time to reach the cabin, thanks to not only the rain but also the brutal wind. When you finally reached the porch you fell onto it, greeted by the most intense relief you’d ever felt. You took a minute to recover from your exercise, and then fumbled around on the dark porch for the stone your brother had left the key under.
“Aha.” Delighted when you found it, you pulled the key out of the rock and shoved it in the door, unlocking it.
Heat floated over your body, as did warm, homey light. Weird. Why were the lights on?
Then did your eyes land on the thing that was most definitely out of place.
A loud, shrill scream ripped from your body.
A man was in the cabin. A naked man. Mostly. The only thing saving him and you was the towel wrapped around his waist. Shiny back, muscly arms, damp neck, wet hair. At the sound of your wail he turned around, equally as alarmed.
“What the-?”
In his panic, the grip he had on his towel slipped, and you were given more of an eyeful than you ever bargained for.
You screamed again and reached for the closest thing to you, then lurched it across the room at him. Then your brain caught up with you, and you pulled the door closed again, separating you from him. You were back outside in the cold.
That man wasn’t just anyone. He’d never been just anyone. He was your sister-in-law’s friend. He was your brother’s boss, to a degree. He was your worst fucking nightmare rolled into physical human form.
He was Harry fucking Styles.
This was officially the worst day of your life.
“No, no, no, no, no.” You repeated, over and over again as you paced the porch, head in your hands. You knocked into your suitcase multiple times and it ended up falling down the porch steps into a muddy puddle. You tripped over a loose piece of decking at least twice. You caught your hip on the porch bannister, too. But none of it registered with you while your brain cycled between images of Harry’s naked back and his large appendage.
How could this be happening? What had you done to deserve such a catastrophic start to your holiday? You couldn’t stay here. Not with that man. That man that you hated, and who hated you in return. This was a disaster.
You dug your phone out of your sopping handbag. No signal.
“Oh, come on.” You hissed.
Stubborn as always, you tried to call your brother anyway. Repeatedly. Twenty times, at least, each one failing to connect. You couldn’t even leave a voicemail. You raised the phone to the sky like it was baby Simba. Still nothing.
“Fuck!”
The door swung open, and Harry said your name in a low grunt.
You swivelled, glare like a dagger. “You. Why the fuck are you here?”
“Why am I here?” He scoffed. He was clothed now, in a t-shirt and jogging bottoms. “Why are you here?”
“This is my brother’s cabin! I have a key! He said I could stay here!”
“Well, guess what?” He leaned forward, arms crossed. “Holly said I could stay here, too.”
You wanted to throw your phone at his stupid face. “Fucking great.”
“There’s obviously been some misunderstanding.” He straightened.
“You don’t say…”
His gaze narrowed. “You’re impossible.”
“At least I’m not the one who’s stupid enough to state the obvious.”
You turned away again and tried your brother one more time. The beep beep beep that told you the call had failed yet again had your stomach in knots.
“There’s no phone signal here.”
“Yes, thank you. Just go back inside.”
“No.”
“For the love of Christ, why not?”
“I’d rather see what you’re going to do with yourself.”
You turned another glare on him. “Oh, I’m so glad that the shitty situation I’ve found myself in is entertaining you, Harry. Please, mock me some more. The resulting anger might actually take the chill out of my fucking toes.”
He looked like he was about to open his mouth, but you didn’t let him.
“You know, this really has been the day from hell. It’s been a categorical disaster from start to finish, and finally getting myself here only to find you, of all people, really is the cherry on top of my whopping slice of shit pie. So please, do me this one favour, and sod off back inside.”
His jaw ticked, and he emitted a low growl before he slammed the door of the cabin and left you in the cold, wet night.
A sob wracked through you, and you flopped down on the top step just to let your body deflate for five minutes. It was so cold you were shivering. Your clothes clung to your body like sheets of ice, your lips were cracked, and a bite ate away at your toes.
You knew you couldn’t do much tonight. You’d have to wait until tomorrow, for when the storm hopefully passed, and you could call your brother to give him a gobful and then walk into the village to find a B&B or cheap hotel. You hadn’t forgotten that your train ticket was a set day return for four weeks’ time. You’d just have to wait until Harry was gone before you took your time to enjoy the cabin like you’d planned.
When you finally calmed down you dragged your suitcase out of the mud and dropped it on the driest part of the deck. You dug around for the jumper you’d brought with you and pulled it over your frozen torso. You also took your shoes and socks off and put two clean pairs on. Once you were wrapped back up in your coat, you settled on the armchair that was the least wet and tried to go to sleep.
After five minutes or so, the cabin door creaked open again.
“Come inside, please.” Harry’s voice was void of any emotion.
“No.”
“You’ll get sick if you stay out here.”
“Rather that than share a bed with you.”
“And you think I want to share a bed with you, either?”
“Then we’re both on the same page. I’m fine out here.”
“You are not fuckin’ fine out here. It’s shitting it down, for fuck’s sake, you could get a flu. Or worse.”
You hadn’t opened your eyes so you had no idea what his facial expression read. “I’m surprised you give a shit enough to care.”
“I don’t particularly, but I like your brother and I don’t want him thinking I didn’t at least try to get you to be sensible when it’s fucking biblical outside.”
“I’ll pass.”
Harry took a deep breath, and he muttered, “Bloody insufferable woman,” before he slammed the door again.
You snuggled further into the chair, shoving your hands under your face. You thought that would be the end of it, but no more than thirty seconds later the door swung back open. You pretended to ignore him, expecting a verbal taunt. Instead, all you got was scuffing noises.
Pushing down the urge to growl like he did at you, you squeezed your eyes shut and faked indifference at his huffy grunting. Until he dragged you out of the chair and hauled you into the cabin in three easy movements.
“What are you doing?” You demanded, scowling at him as he locked the door behind you.
“You can be as stubborn and petty as you like about this, but you are not staying outside in the rain. End of story.”
“I was fine!”
“You were not fine.” He folded his arms again. “Look at you, for fuck’s sake. You’re about five seconds away from catching hypothermia. You think I want that on my hands? You, of all people, needing my attention every day for the next five weeks? I don’t, by the way. I came here for a holiday, too.”
“I didn’t bring myself here to be a God damn burden to you, Harry. Don’t flatter yourself.”
“Why don’t you go and get in the shower, and maybe you’ll calm the fuck down.”
You inched closer to him. “Oh, I’m sure you’d love that. Me, following your orders like some sycophant.”
He took a step closer to me. “I would, actually. It might make you somewhat tolerable.”
“Get fucked, Harry.”
“Sounds like you need that more than I do.”
You produced a noise somewhere between a grunt and a squeal, and shoved at his chest once before you stalked away. “Prick.”
He hummed, entertained. “Try not to think about mine while you’re in there. I’m sure the sight of it has left you with enough to be desired.”
Too tired to argue with him anymore, you threw your middle finger at him over your shoulder.
Whether you’d been forced inside against your will or not, you really did want a shower before a permanent chill settled over you. You turned the water on and let it run hot. The second it swilled over your body you let out a helpless moan.
You stood stoic underneath it for an indeterminate amount of time, just willing your body to warm up. The day washed away from you, worries temporarily forgotten while you soaked up as much heat as you could. Oh, it was glorious. A shower had never been so rewarding.
After a while you realised you didn’t have any of your shower stuff with you, still locked in your suitcase, and you let out a huff. You surveyed what Harry had brought with him and spent too long debating whether it was socially acceptable to wash using your mortal enemy’s shower gel. You decided against it and would properly wash in the morning.
Taking another ten minutes, you decided you were ready to face Harry again and whatever bollocks he might throw your way. You found a towel and gave your hair a dry, then wrapped it around your body. You hadn’t thought this through in your desperation to get away from him.
You stepped out of the room with purpose and marched over to where Harry had abandoned your suitcase after dragging it inside earlier, and carefully picked your way through it to find your pyjamas and toothbrush. Without giving the man even the slightest glance, you locked yourself back up in the bathroom to change and clean your teeth.
“Forget your clothes?” Harry asked at your second reappearance.
“Why ask a question you already know the answer to?” You gave a roll of your eyes.
He sat straighter in the armchair he was settled into, “Why answer a question with another question?”
You ignored him. Instead you gave yourself the opportunity to actually take in your brother’s second home. You realised it was tiny. Like Tiny Home tiny. When he said he’d bought a cabin you thought he meant something like a chalet. But no, this was small. A kitchenette had been built into the right-hand wall by the front door with a fridge, a two-plate hob and a stainless steel sink. Two armchairs sat either side of a small birch table, and a double bed at the back of the room with a cherrywood wardrobe. A woven rug gave the space a homey feel, balancing the bare oak that gave foundation for the rest of the place.
A sinking feeling buried in you when you realised there wasn’t a sofa.
You rubbed a hand into your cheek, feeling slightly cheated by your brother and his wife.
“You look like you’re about to pass out.” Harry said into the quiet, all malice and jest lost.
“I feel like it.” You admitted, turning your stare on the bed. “I’m just tired.”
He cleared his throat and stood. “I sleep on the left.”
You refrained from giving him another eye roll and instead focussed on settling down. You left your phone on the dining table, plugged in to charge overnight, poured a glass of water which you drank in one long swig, and then returned to the bed.
“What are you doing?”
Harry had settled on the left side of the bed but with his head at the foot and his feet at the top. If he slept on the left, did that not completely defeat the purpose of his claim?
“Top and tail.”
“Yeah, no. Absolutely not.” You shook your head.
“Why not?”
“I am not giving you the opportunity to stick your foot in my face at any given point in the night.”
He kissed his teeth and sat up with a scowl. “Woman, you have got some major fuckin’ trust issues.”
“With you I do, absolutely.”
You waited until he was in bed the right way up before you slipped in yourself and turned the light off. The room was cast in darkness and your eyes struggled to adjust. You faced away from Harry on your side, wriggling to find a comfortable position, and you could hear him doing the same.
His foot was definitely on your side of the bed so you kicked it away. He then tried to take the covers off you, but you were quick to snatch them back. He let out a deep sigh.
“Can I have some of the quilt, please?”
“You’ve got some.”
“I have none.”
“Bullshit.”
He ripped the covers away again, and you fought the urge to squeal.
“Give some back.”
“You have some.” He said in the same tone you had.
“Harry.”
“What?”
“I’m cold.”
“You’ve just spent an hour using up all the hot water so I refuse to believe that.”
“What is your problem?”
“You are.”
You grit your teeth. Folding your arms, you scooted as close to the edge of the bed as possible without falling off. Arguing with him was fruitless, it just left you angry and wired.
Tomorrow, you resolved to find somewhere, anywhere else to stay. For now, you’d try to sleep uncomfortable and coverless.
~
Had you slept?
No.
For hours you’d imprisoned yourself on the edge of the bed, cold and coverless, hugging yourself in an attempt to keep warm, and squeezing your eyes closed just praying that sleep would come. But it never did. You’d think after the day you had yesterday it would be easy to just drop off. Why would it be that simple for you?
You knew it was light outside now thanks to the inside of your eyelids. You decided then to give up. Sleep wasn’t coming.
As you opened your eyes you realised how close to the edge of the bed you were. At the same time, Harry wriggled again, further onto your side of the mattress, and his knee nudged your backside.
Oh no.
Struggling to find anything to hold onto, your body tumbled over the edge. A panicked yelp tore out of you, followed by a grunt and a thud when you hit the floor.
“Ow.” You whimpered. You’d fallen on your front, knee and toe first followed by your head. You rolled onto your back and held onto your forehead as if it might stop the pounding you felt.
Laughter started, and your eyes flew open to find Harry hovering over the side of the bed, green eyes shining. You were, actually, somewhat offended by how entertained he was. If it was acceptable to hit people, you’d be hitting him.
“You alright down there?”
“No I’m not fucking alright, Harry.”
Your own anger made the throbbing in your head worse so you stayed on your back.
“Alright, was only a question.”
“This is your bloody fault - you’re a bed hogger!”
“Yeah? Well you snore!”
“Considering I didn’t get a single second of sleep last night I don’t know how you’ve landed on that conclusion, and I can only assume you’ve made it up to piss me off.”
“You were snoring.” He said in a flat voice.
“No I wasn’t.”
The throbbing got worse again, so you squeezed your eyes shut and took a deep breath. Then another.
“You’ve hit your head.”
If the thought of rolling your eyes didn’t make you nauseous you’d absolutely do it. “If there was an award for Best Observationist, you’d win it.”
“Do you need ice or something?”
His voice had changed and it somewhat startled you. You peeled an eye open again to find he hadn’t moved - he was still hanging over the bed. His expression, however, was neutral.
“Yes. Please.”
He gave a curt nod and then disappeared. You closed your eyes again, willing the throbbing away.
“There isn’t any ice.”
You refrained from screaming, knowing it wouldn’t do you any good. “Okay.”
“Here,” his voice was much closer, and he gave a little pat to your knee, “this might help.”
Peeling an eye open, he flashed a couple of boxes of painkillers. “Panadol.” Of course the man had branded paracetamol. The 95p boxes of Sainsbury’s own shoved in your kitchen cupboard looked shameful right about now.
“Extra strength. And that rapid relief ibuprofen.”
“You brought painkillers with you on holiday?”
He shrugged. “I’m here for a long time. Hangovers need encouragement to get fucked.”
You raised a sceptic brow. “And here I thought some magical mystery Nutri-Bullet recipe would be your saviour.”
“Funny.” He muttered.
Huh. How unlike him not to shove a witty rebuttal at you.
“Do you need help getting up or are you just gonna sit on the floor all day?”
Your scowl returned. “I’m fine.”
On shaky legs and with a fuzzy head, you grabbed the side of the bed and hauled yourself up. You weren’t sure if the sudden ringing in your ears was something you should be worried about, but you persisted.
Once sat, Harry handed you the tablet boxes and fetched a glass of water for you while you thumbed out two of each.
“Thank you.” You mumbled.
“Please and thank you in the space of ten minutes?” He goaded. “Sounds like you’ve got a concussion.”
“My parents didn’t raise me in a barn.”
He stood with his broad arms folded across his chest while he watched you swallow down four tablets, face a mishmash of irritation and something else. You refused to believe it was concern so you attributed it to frustration. You were just ruining his holiday the same way he was ruining yours.
You decided to finish the water, and then Harry took the boxes and the glass from you. You laid back down, shielding the room and your eyes with your arms.
“Sure you don’t need a hospital?” His voice was far away.
“Yes. I just need to close my eyes for a bit. I’ll be fine.”
He didn’t answer, and you were thankful. Any more talking and your head might have exploded.
~
You’d fallen asleep. While you hadn’t intended to, you couldn’t help but be grateful for the respite. There was no way you would’ve been able to do anything on zero hours sleep, so a few was better than nothing.
You sat up, noticing that you’d corrected yourself direction-wise on the bed and pulled the covers over you. You must’ve done it subconsciously.
The cabin was quiet. Almost eerily so. There was no sign of Harry anywhere. The only sign that he’d been there at all was his own suitcase tucked away in the corner. No sound came from the bathroom, and all you could hear outside was birds.
Birds. Not rain.
You scrambled out of bed towards the front door and hauled it open, but it was locked. Harry had locked you in. You found the key your brother had left for you on the table and put it to use.
It was glorious outside. Not a cloud in the sky, blue everywhere, green even more so. And it was warm. Summer dress warm. Your feet itched to go outside, but you knew you needed to take it easy. The headache hadn’t completely subsided, but it was tolerable. Barely there. A shower and some food would fix it.
You closed the door and locked it again, determined to start your day. Steadily.
You were about to head straight for the shower when you noticed it. A brown paper bag trapped under a pretty mug, and a jar of instant coffee wedged inside it. The mug lived here - you recognised it from Holly’s old flat. But the greasy brown bag did not. You noticed the letters GF scrawled on the front.
He remembered.
Warning bells started screaming inside your head as you plucked the bag out and opened it up. The smell of cooled buttery pastry wafted from inside, and you pulled out the biggest croissant you’d ever seen.
The message was clear as day. Eat and get some caffeine in you.
This was bad. Angry Harry you could deal with any day of the week at any time of day. You could even cope with jester Harry, because you gave just as good as you got. But this? Base-level concern? It threw you for a loop.
Regardless, you were starving. So you boiled the kettle and made your coffee just how you like it as you tore off pieces of pastry and gobbled it down. While you waited for your coffee to cool once your croissant was demolished, you took a quick shower.
Half an hour later you were out the door and feeling a hell of a lot better than you had done for weeks. You wandered down into the village, the sun a glowing comfort on your bare skin.
You had a mission today: alternative accommodation.
You kept an eye on your phone for patches of signal, and called your brother whenever you found some. He never answered. Part of you wondered if he was ignoring you, and if that was the case you were going to have a very big problem. He only ignored you if he was avoiding you.
And that wasn’t even your biggest problem.
“I’m sorry, we’re full.” The receptionist at the final B&B said with barely an ounce of emotion.
“The sign outside said you had vacancies.”
“I just sold the last one over the phone. Haven’t had time to change it.” She gave me a smile that didn’t touch her eyes.
You fought a petulant sigh. “Do you know where else I can stay? I’ve tried every B&B here and no one has any vacancies.”
“Why don’t you try an AirBnB.” She suggested with a tone dripping in sarcasm. “You young people seem to love those.”
Ah, so this was a territorial issue. You gave her a flat glare and left without another word.
Yet again, you found yourself in a rut. Your good mood had been successfully wiped away. Maybe you would check AirBnB, but the thought of spending another obscene amount on accommodation filled you with a sickly feeling.
Your phone started ringing, much to your surprise. Holly. “Is my brother ignoring me?”
“I don’t know, but if he was, he probably wouldn’t tell me.” She laughed, always a fan of your no-nonsense approach. “I thought I’d call since I haven’t heard from you. Did you make it there alive?”
“Alive is not the word I’d use to describe my current state. It’s also impossible to call someone when the phone signal is worse than a World War II air raid shelter.”
Holly cackled. “You’re such a nerd. What’s wrong?”
“Either you’re playing dumb to avoid my wrath or you’re very stupid.”
She gasped your name but she was most definitely entertained. “What do you mean?”
“Harry is here. Using your holiday home.”
An extended period of silence followed, completed with a breathy, “Oh… shit.”
Oh shit, indeed.
“Well,” she seemed to shake herself, “it can’t be that bad.”
This one was truly off her rocker. “Can’t be that bad? Holly, how many times have you been in a room with me and Harry at the same time?”
“Plenty.”
“Exactly. How many times have we had a fight whilst in said same room together?”
“Almost always.”
“Not almost always, just always. We. Do. Not. Get. On.”
“Oh, babe, I think you’re being a bit dramatic.”
“There’s only one fucking bed!”
Holly went quiet for a minute, and you realised you’d earned the attention of a few passers by. You sat down on a nearby bench, wary of the throb in your head getting worse.
“Are you okay?” She finally asked.
That set you off. You launched into your shitty day from yesterday, from the car breakdown to the taxi driver to hitting your head this morning. Words without breath had never left you so fast and the feeling you were rewarded with after was less than satisfactory. Deflation. Sadness.
“Oh, hun, I’m sorry. I didn’t know he was going.” You were certain she was lying about that last sentence but you didn’t interrupt her. “I’ll get in touch with Harry and tell him to rein it in.”
“I don’t need you to curb the man on my behalf, Hol. I can handle him myself. I just… I really wish he wasn’t here.”
“Do you want me to make him leave?”
A rare sight of guilt crept its way into the centre of your stomach. You battled the urge to say yes, because you knew if Holly asked him to, he would absolutely go. “No… hardly fair. He was here first.”
“Yeah but I bet you would’ve been if all those things didn’t go wrong yesterday.”
You grunted. You were supposed to arrive just before 9am yesterday morning, not close to 11pm. “Don’t make him leave. I’m a bitch but I’m not a complete cunt.”
“You’re not either of those things by any stretch. My friend just happens to know how to really rattle your cage.”
Ain’t that the truth. “I’m trying to find a B&B or something but they’re all full.”
“Oh, please don’t spend more money.”
“I can’t stay in your cabin, Hol. I didn’t sleep last night and that man does not know how to share a queen bed.”
“It’s actually a three-quarter bed.”
“Fuck off.” You groaned.
“Look, we wanted it to be as spacious as possible there. We didn’t anticipate two people who claim to hate each other having to share it. It’s for cuddling.”
That urge to smack someone reared its ugly head. “You’re ridiculous.”
She laughed from the back of her throat, and as irritated as you were it did make you smile. “Take a long walk, babe. If you’re in the village there’s a great ice cream place near the church that’ll make you forget all about He Who Shall Not Be Named.”
You rolled your eyes. “I can say Harry, for fuck’s sake.”
She screamed as if she’d been burned, teasing you.
“Shut up.” You actually managed to laugh. “Fine. I’ll go find some ice cream. But if they’ve got WiFi I will absolutely be looking for an AirBnB.”
She sighed. “Fine.”
“Do me a favour and tell my brother to stop being a wuss.”
“Oh, come on, you know he can’t handle your wrath. You can tell him yourself, anyway.”
You started looking around to see if they’d actually come up and were just loitering nearby to piss you off.
“What?”
“We were going to surprise you but I think you might murder us if we did. We’re on our way to you. My Nanna will be coming, too - we’ve got a table booked at the pub in the village.”
Unbelievable. “You little minx.”
One of the reasons Holly and your brother bought a holiday home in Scotland was to be able to spend more time with Holly’s family. While she grew up in London and has never left it, her mum’s side of the family are all in Scotland.
Holly giggled, obviously delighted with herself. “Sorry. We’re set to arrive in about two hours.”
“But where are you staying?”
“My Nan’s house.”
“Not got a spare room, has she?” You mumbled.
“I know you don’t mean that, but she doesn’t. We’re staying on her pullout.”
“Damn.”
“We’re gonna go straight there and then come to you afterwards, alright?”
You took a deep breath and stood up from your bench. “Yeah, alright. I’ll see you in a few hours, then.”
“Byeee!”
You were already making a beeline for the ice cream shop by the time she put the phone down.
It was a cute little parlour, like something straight out of a movie. Retro tiles covered the walls and floor in pinks and yellows, two long display freezers to the left full to the brim with every single flavour one could ever imagine. Tables spread across the right and spilled onto the street, and booths in the corner each had a miniature jukebox on top.
“How can I help you?” A man behind the counter asked, dressed in a full uniform complete with the little hat.
“Hi, um,” you gave him the best smile you could, even if you were overwhelmed, “do you have any gluten free cones?”
“Sure,” he gestured to the stand on the top with a variety of cones, from small to ridiculously large in size, “just this one.”
The cone in question was the most pathetic-looking of them all. You did your absolute best to hide your disappointment. “Great, then I’ll have one of those. Chocolate, please.”
“Which type?” He lifted a brow.
You realised then that there were about ten different chocolate flavours. “Er… which is the best one in your opinion?”
That perked him up. He spent the next five minutes listing off reasons why the chocolate and hazelnut flavour was his most popular of all his options.
“I guess that’s the one I want, then.” You forced another smile.
“Coming right up.”
Something made you shiver, but it wasn’t a gust of wind or the freezers you stood by.
“At least try and act like you’re excited about it.” A deep voice murmured, far too close to your ear for your liking.
You practically hissed and took a very purposeful step away. “Jesus, Harry.”
He laughed, but the sound wasn’t spiteful like it usually would be. “Only you could make ice cream seem rubbish.”
“I don’t think ice cream is rubbish,” Was your only retort. You just wished gluten free cones didn’t look so fucking sad.
The owner handed you your cone and you paid him in cash. “Do you have WiFi in here?”
“Sure. Password’s on the wall up there.” He pointed at a laminated sign, and then turned his attention to Harry. “Hey, aren’t you that guy?”
Your cue to leave.
While Harry had an awkward conversation with the parlour owner about which guy he was, you connected to the internet and took a seat on the patio outside with your back to the sun. A satisfied hum left you at the warmth on your skin. You concentrated on demolishing your ice cream before you made a mess of yourself.
Unfortunately, Harry decided today wasn’t the day he was going to leave you alone. He sat down opposite you with a three-flavour cone, the colours unsettlingly unnatural. He looked uncomfortable, and this time it wasn’t because of you.
“What on Earth is that?”
“This is a masterpiece.” At least he could still behave like an idiot even when he’d been ‘spotted’.
“It looks disgusting.”
You watched him with a deep-seated discomfort as he shamelessly licked around his cone. Unfiltered moans came out of his mouth, but you were certain he was acting up for your benefit.
“What flavours are they?” You just had to ask.
“Mint chocolate, bubblegum and ginger.”
“Ginger?” You almost choked on a hazelnut. “Sir, you have a serious problem.”
He laughed again, that same obnoxiously easy sound as before. “Did you just call me sir?”
“I did and I immediately regret it.”
He made a noise, an amused squeak of sorts. “Why did you look so horrified by yours, anyway?”
You shifted in your chair, having just popped the end of the cone in your mouth. You glanced over your shoulder to make sure the owner wasn’t listening, pleased to find him distracted by a large family. “The gluten free options for cones was utter shite.”
“How so?”
“Well, he only had one type, and it was poxy as shit.”
He snorted. “I thought it looked small. I don’t imagine it being a lot of fun.”
You were immediately reminded of the croissant he’d picked up for you. You knew that you needed to say thank you, even if it did feel like taking a punch in the gut. “Thank you for the pastry.”
He paused mid-lick as if you’d just spoken a foreign language. He looked ridiculous and almost child-like, green eyes wide and pupils so narrow thanks to the sun they were barely visible. He rescued a drip before he made a mess. “Welcome. How is your…” he tapped his temple.
“Yeah, better.”
“Good.”
You returned to silence, and you got busy looking for a new place to stay. The options were… lacking. You knew the decision to go away during the school holidays would be a silly one anyway, but you wanted the heat. You wanted a summer holiday. Not a cold and wet one. But at such late notice in an area with limited options to begin with, all that was really left were large houses for groups of ten or places miles and miles away that would cost yet more money to travel to. The only other thing you could think of was buying a tent and pitching up on a nearby campsite, but you fucking hated tents and camping.
As time wore on and Harry’s ice cream disappeared, you noticed him growing more restless. You glanced up a couple of times to find him with his head down, but you eventually figured out the source of his discomfort. He was shooting looks at something over your shoulder while constantly readjusting his ball cap.
You straightened in your seat and twisted yourself slightly to get a better look.
“Don’t turn around.” He muttered without looking at you.
You frowned. “Why?”
He never gave you an answer so you did it anyway. A couple of tables over someone was doing a very bad job at hiding their phone.
For God’s sake.
“Do you want to swap seats?” You offered.
He gave you a startled look, and admittedly you were surprised at your own suggestion. “No.”
“You sure? The back of your head is way less appealing than the front of it.”
You could see the confusion spread across his face and you wished immediately that you could take your words back. He was too wound up to mention it now, but you knew he definitely would in the future.
“They’ve already got about fifteen minutes worth of pictures, there’s no point moving now.” He huffed and readjusted the hat on his head once more, eyes downcast.
You pursed your lips in thought. After a moment you readjusted your seat so that you were hopefully positioned right in the way. Harry gave you a blank look, eyes still darting to the people behind you.
“Do you want to go?”
“Not particularly.”
You knew what he meant. He shouldn’t have to leave just because other people didn’t know how to behave like normal human beings.
A minute later the table behind you stood and left, so something had at least worked.
“Thank you.” He said it so quietly you nearly missed it. “Your lack of subtlety was almost entertaining.”
You weren’t offended by that. You hadn’t meant to be subtle. “I know we don’t get on but I respect your privacy. You should’ve asked them to delete it.”
“Then it just makes me look like a prick.”
“But you are a prick.”
He broke into another laugh. That laugh that held no malice or spite. The one he’d only debuted today. Then he slid back to stoicism. “I’ll be all over the Daily Mail again tomorrow anyway.”
Something weird happened. Anger materialised in your chest, and it wasn’t an unfamiliar feeling in the slightest. What was unusual was that it came on Harry’s behalf. Usually you felt this way because of Harry, not for him.
You cleared your throat. “It’s okay to tell people to fuck off every once in a while, Harry.”
“Not when you’re me, it isn’t.”
“It is when people don’t know how to set boundaries.”
“Don’t worry about it. Seriously.” He readjusted his cap again and sunk further into his seat. “Not the first time I’ve been spotted on holiday.”
“With a mystery woman, no less.”
He snorted. “Sorry in advance.”
“For what?”
“You’re about to become the most interesting person on the planet. I’d privatise your Instagram.”
“It already is. Nor is it very interesting.”
“Just… I don’t know. I know what they’re like.”
“You think I give a shit what a bunch of people on the internet think about me?”
“I don’t know, maybe.”
“Have I ever given a shit what anyone else has thought about me?”
He tipped his head. “No.”
“Exactly.”
“It’s their boundaries I’m worried about.”
“Don’t be. If those pictures do make it anywhere, I’ll have no problem telling the next person to fuck off if it comes to it.”
The smallest smile tugged at his lips. “Then I really hope for their sake that there isn’t a next time.”
~
You hadn’t left the parlour until you’d come up with a solution to your living arrangement. It took longer than you’d like, but eventually you settled for the only option; in two weeks you’d let Harry have the cabin and move into an AirBnB a few towns over. A bungalow this time with a very big bed. You’d had to fork out a deposit since it was a booking of more than 7 nights, which put another lovely dent in your bank balance. You were really trying not to think about it.
Harry hadn’t passed comment when you told him. He just gave a blank stare and a curt nod, which was very unlike him. When it came to you, he’d never had any problem parting with his opinions.
You’d been ambushed on your way back to the cabin by your brother and Holly. After changing and freshening up you all walked down to the pub together to meet Holly’s Nanna. You had met her at the wedding but only briefly. Your brother and Holly’s special day had been somewhat dampened by the fact that Harry materialised again whenever you forgot about him and ended up drinking yourself into an early bedtime. The next morning you were rewarded with the worst hangover of your entire life.
Nanna was amazing. One of those larger than life women who weren’t afraid to drop the c word a couple of times without so much as batting an eyelid, and using Malibu as an excuse for a good time. You’d been seated on a round table which relieved you to no end. You were sandwiched between Nanna and your brother which meant there was a decent amount of distance between you and Harry.
“I need you to tell me something.” Nanna patted your arm, giving you her full attention.
It was like being addressed by royalty. “Anything.”
“I hear there’s a story about your brother involving nappies and toothpaste. A serial offence. He won’t tell me and Holly conveniently doesn’t know about it.”
You gave your brother a look.
“Please don’t.” He begged.
“But Nanna asked so nicely.”
“You’re about to embarrass me in front of the man I work for?”
You don’t look at Harry. “It’s not like you haven’t managed that all by yourself on previous occasions.”
“Yeah, don’t stop on my account.” Harry coughed, battling laughter.
“Great, we’re all on the same page.” You grinned. You turned back to Nanna, “Once upon a time, my little brother had to sleep in a crib and wear nappies just like all the other babies. He was cute, it should be said. I have a picture on my phone somewhere of him running around the garden with no clothes on.”
Your brother rolled his eyes and sunk into his seat with a scowl. Holly gave him a patronising pat on the shoulder.
“Anyway, beside the point. Like most toddlers he was an absolute tyrant, compared to me - I was an angel.”
“Hard to believe.” Harry muttered.
“Aye,” Nanna shot him a look. She’d been smitten with him all night until that point.
“Don’t worry about it - we’re in an ongoing feud.” You brushed the matter away and continued with your story. “During his reign of tyranny, he adopted a very obscure but passionate obsession with toothpaste. Colgate Cool Stripe only - no other product lived up to his expectations. It all started when, one day, our mother accidentally used adult toothpaste instead of the toddler stuff. An uphill battle began.
“Any time he had to clean his teeth, he’d try and use Colgate instead of the kiddy stuff, and mum or dad would fight with him until he surrendered in a screaming fit and had a toothbrush forced into his face hole.”
Someone sniggered, and your chest inflated. Making people laugh had always pleased you.
“His addiction got so bad, one night he managed to escape from his cot and into Mum and Dad’s bathroom. They found him on the floor with an empty tube and Colgate smushed all over his cute little face. Hours later he had a terrible accident. I won’t go into graphic detail since we’ve just had our dinner.”
Nanna started laughing, a throaty and hoarse sound. Given the amount of times she’d excused herself for a cigarette, you attributed that habit to the unique noise. “And this happened more than once?”
You nodded. “They tried locking it in the cabinet a few times, but he’d always find it. Eventually they changed tactics and just bought Aquafresh instead.”
Nanna hummed and gave him a pointed look. “I’ve always thought you were a picky bastard.”
“Nanna,” Holly gasped, shaking with laughter. She leaned her forehead against her husband’s shoulder.
“I can’t be that picky if I ended up with your granddaughter.”
Holly threw her hands up. “Does anyone else want to bully me today? Between that and being called very stupid I think I might have room for one more insult.”
“Your shoes don’t go with your dress.” Nanna said.
After a beat of silence, the table erupted into laughter.
The waiter returned to offer dessert, which you would usually forego since pubs rarely tended to offer gluten free choices without putting up a fight. You’d learned to live a sad, dessert-less existence. But everyone else was having one so you succumbed to peer pressure.
“What ice cream flavours do you have?”
“For the sundae?” The young girl asked with a confused frown.
“No, I’m coeliac so I can’t have it.”
“Oh,” her cheeks turned pink, which was not your intention, “sorry. Um, just the usual flavours, then.”
Neopolitan.
“Great, can I have two scoops of chocolate.”
“Sure.”
She was very quick to hurry off. Something bothered you about that whole exchange but you couldn’t put your finger on it.
“Aren’t you bored of chocolate ice cream?” Harry asked, but he was fiddling with his napkin rather than looking at you.
“Never.”
Holly kicked his leg under the table but you pretended not to notice.
After the bill was settled, which Harry tried to sneak off and pay for without telling anyone, you bid goodbye to each other and sent your brother, Holly and Nanna off together in a taxi. The waitress hadn’t stopped giving you wary glances ever since you asked for ice cream, and you still couldn’t place what went wrong. You might have been a little short with her but it wasn’t meant with any malice.
It didn’t really dawn on you what was wrong until you were walking up the hill to the cabin with Harry.
A curdling feeling in your stomach had you feeling very queasy very quickly.
“Oh no.” You mumbled, keeping your gaze on the grass below you. Your vision swung and you struggled to keep your balance.
“What’s wrong?” Harry asked, turning back to you. He’d been a couple of metres ahead of you for the entire walk so you didn’t have to force a conversation.
You sat down on the grass to keep yourself gravitated, but it was no good. You weren’t nauseous because you were dizzy, you were dizzy because you were sick.
You spent the next ten minutes vomiting into the bushes.
Harry had kept a relative distance from you while you were sick, only handing you a bottle of water when you seemed to give up the last of your stomach contents and take a big breath.
“Are you okay?” He asked in a cautious voice.
Unattractively, you swilled your mouth out and then necked the remaining contents of the bottle. “Yeah, fine.”
“What happened?”
“I think something went wrong at dinner.”
“What do you mean?”
You gave him a levelled look, trying to communicate with your eyes. It seemed like a ridiculous idea considering you could barely communicate together with words, let alone silent glances.
“Ah… did it say gluten free on the menu?”
You nodded.
“Did you tell them?”
You shook your head. Sometimes you liked to put faith in humanity and believe you’d be fine putting yourself in the hands of others. When you were dining with practical strangers, making a fuss about your condition made you feel like a twat, so you kept quiet about it. Now you wish you’d said something.
“Are you gonna make a complaint?”
You shook your head furiously and readjusted yourself to sit back on your arse rather than your knees. “Happens all the time, sadly.”
“That girl knew they’d fucked up, didn’t she?”
“You saw that?”
“I saw you looking at her a lot after the ice cream thing.”
You made a strange noise. “It is what it is. I don’t blame her for not saying anything. For all she knows I could be going home unscathed.”
“But you’re not.”
“Don’t worry about it, Harry. I’m not into making a scene.”
“You could’ve been seriously ill.”
“I know that.”
“If you don’t tell them they fucked up, how are they going to know to stop it from happening to someone else in the future?”
You took a deep breath and looked up to the sky. You and Harry had made progress today, on some weird level, but this was not part of that progress. “Fine. I’ll do something about it tomorrow.”
“No you won’t.”
“Leave it alone, Harry!” You finally snapped. “How I handle my health issues is none of your fucking business, especially when you haven’t got a fucking clue what it’s like to have them. Just drop it.”
His jaw ticked. “Fine.”
He disappeared up the hill and into the cabin without so much as another word.
You collapsed onto your back and let a tight sob wrack through you.
You contemplated what the fuck you were doing. This holiday had been nothing but a shit show from start to day 2 and you didn’t want to do it anymore. You should’ve gone home this morning. You’d refused to quit so early on given how long it had been since you had any real time off, but the universe was clearly working against you and you wished you hadn’t bothered.
As it always did, a second round of vomiting ensued, and you were back on your hands and knees hacking up bile while your stomach protested. You cried more as you threw up.
As the convulsions subsided you collapsed onto your back again, but the smell of it was starting to affect you. Slowly, you stood on shaky legs and attempted to make your way up to the cabin.
You hadn’t realised, but Harry was standing at the top of the hill wearing a frown, hands shoved into his pockets. When you caught sight of him you were ashamed. You knew what he’d said came from a good place, but it just really ground your gears when people who had no idea what it was like tried to tell you how to handle it.
He made his way back to you and silently placed his hand on the small of your back. It was warm and unfamiliar, but you couldn’t work out if the trembling from you was because of that or because you were just sick.
“How much more did you see?” You asked, helpless.
He gave you a startled look, like he was shocked to hear you so vulnerable. “Enough.”
You sighed and kept your gaze on the floor, trying not to fall over.
“Do you have any medication or anything?”
You shook your head. “It doesn’t really work like that.”
Once you got to the cabin you headed straight for the bathroom and changed into your pyjamas. You then poured yourself a glass of water and took it to bed with you. You were asleep within seconds.
~
You slept through the night that night. When you woke you felt a shit-ton better than you had the night before, and it left you with a smile on your face. You wriggled your legs and toes underneath the sheets and stretched your arms.
You realised the bed was empty, but when you peeled an eye open it was obvious Harry had slept on his side at some point. You sat up to an empty room. There was no sign of Harry, again.
You didn’t know much about Harry’s daily routine but you would put money on him being an early morning runner. You shivered at the thought.
He appeared whilst you were in the middle of your second round of toast. It was the only thing you could think to try and stomach after yesterday’s disaster. Harry was in regular clothes, not running attire. You owed yourself a fiver.
“Ah,” he paused at the sight of you eating toast, and limply lifted his hand. The same greasy brown paper bag rustled in his grip.
“Don’t be shy.” You patted the table after swallowing your mouthful. “I’ll still eat it.”
“You’re that hungry?”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s what happens when you’re forced to empty your entire stomach contents.”
His nose wrinkled. “Right.”
You took a sip of coffee while he made himself comfortable in the seat opposite you.
“How do you feel?”
“Well, I slept the night through and didn’t hit my head this morning which is a major improvement on yesterday.”
“That’s something. Do you feel right enough to go out?”
“If I weren’t on holiday I’d be right back to work, Harry. No rest for the wicked and all.”
“Is that a yes, then?” He cocked a brow.
“Yes, Harry.”
“Okay. I was gonna go down to the lake… it’s really warm out.”
“Are you telling me, or is that an invitation?”
He picked his pastry apart. “Both? I don’t know, it might do you some good.”
Concern? From your nemesis? This was bad. “Oh, don’t go coy on me, Harry. It doesn’t suit you.”
“Knew I shouldn’t have bothered.”
“That’s more like it.”
His mouth lifted at the corner for the shortest fraction of a second.
“Is it pebbly or sandy?”
An olive branch.
“Both?”
The worst kind of lake beach, then. “The type that calls for a special type of shoe.”
He grimaced. “I know.”
“It’s fine. We make do.” You pronounced, and stood from the table with your dirty things. “Give me 20 minutes and we’ll go.”
~
“That alright?”
You peered up at the man blocking the sun with a pinched look. He stood before you in a faded white t-shirt and board shorts, holding an ice cream cone with a single chocolate scoop on top.
“As long as it’s the right cone, it’s perfect.”
“I double checked.” He promised as he handed it to you, and then sat with his own.
This was day four on the beach by the lake. While you and Harry spent the time there together, you did your own thing. He spent most of his time in the water like a fucking fish, and you spent yours on a towel with a book and enough food to feed the 5,000.
You’d found a tolerable medium with Harry. In the day you gave each other your needed space, and at night time you tried not to touch each other in bed. Or smother each other. So far it had worked well.
You hadn’t seen Holly or your brother since that night at dinner. They’d actually been visiting for a relative’s birthday party and had already gone home, leaving you and Harry to suffer together.
“I think you’re running low on your special bread.”
You snorted and covered your mouth. ‘Special bread’ made you sound like some kind of escaped lunatic.
“I don’t know why I said it like that.” Harry shook his head. “But the fact remains.”
“We’re running low on a lot.”
“Maybe we should go shopping.”
You groaned. This is what your life had come to: grocery shopping with a celebrity.
“I’ll make it as painless as possible.”
“Where even is the nearest supermarket?”
“I don’t know - I went shopping on the way here.”
“So did I.”
Has there ever been a more ridiculous conversation?
Harry found his phone and checked for signal, soon letting out a soft sigh. “Five weeks without WiFi was a stupid idea.”
“Ain’t that the truth.”
You decided to check a map on the notice board outside the public toilets on the lake site and decided there must be a supermarket in the nearest town. Harry drove you out into the Scottish countryside following his sat-nav’s directions to the closest town.
It was a little odd being in the same car as him. While your brother’s work relationship and subsequent marriage had brought him into your life for many a family gathering, you’d never found yourself in quite such a confined space as this. Apart from the bed situation. You were certain he was being quiet on your behalf, because silence was better than small talk. The decision to go shopping had proven that much.
“Unbelievable.” He muttered the second you entered the supermarket.
You followed his nervous gaze to a man with a camera doing a shitty job at hiding. “Go back to the car if you want to.”
“Hardly fair.”
“Being uncomfortable isn’t fair.” You insisted. “Go take a drive and be back here in half an hour. I don’t mind.”
He sighed and handed you the list you’d prepared before leaving. “I’ll be back.”
“Yes, please don’t use this opportunity to abandon me here.”
He smirked. “Don’t put ideas in my head.” He took his wallet out of his pocket and handed you his card. “Use that.”
You frowned at it, and then him in turn. “I don’t mind paying for it.”
“Pay with my card and then send me half when you find signal or internet or whatever.” He turned away, but threw, “Half an hour,” over his shoulder.
You had to take a moment to collect yourself. Now you weren’t grocery shopping with a celebrity, you were using one’s credit card.
Before you started your shopping, you had one more thing you had to do. Stalking the man who was stalking your reluctant companion was easy because he didn’t try very hard to be subtle. You tapped him on the shoulder.
He spun around with a bewildered look on his face. “Yes?”
“Delete them.”
~
True to his word, Harry returned half an hour later with a confusing smile. “Guess what I found.”
You let him take the bags out of your hands to shove them in the boot of his car. “What?”
“A fucking Costa.”
“No way…”
“Yes way.” He grinned.
“Where?”
“Literally around the corner.” He thumbed in that general direction. “I got two ‘cause I didn’t know which one you liked.”
“As long as it’s got coffee in it, I’ll consume it.”
Sure enough, two starkly different iced coffees sat in the cup holders in his central console.
“Which one do you want?” You asked. He did buy them after all.
“I don’t mind. You choose.”
“Please pick one.”
“No.”
“Harry.”
“Fine.” He plucked one at random and started drinking as he pulled off. “Happy?”
“Yes. Thank you.” And you meant it, too.
Silence settled between you again as you slurped away at your coffee. It was comfortable this time. You put the window down and stuck your arm out to feel the breeze through your fingers.
“Do you ever wonder how we got so…”
You looked over at him with a curious expression, but he never finished his sentence. “What?”
Harry shook his head. “Never mind.”
“Oh, come on, Harry.” You poked his arm. “You’ve never been one to mince your words in front of me before. Don’t start now.”
His lips twitched with a smile, but it was quickly replaced by something else. A kind of sad contemplation. “I don’t want to ruin a rare nice day.”
Now you were the one struggling to find words. Animosity was just the default practice for you and Harry when you were around each other. After so many years of battling over often ridiculous things, he was right. This was a rare nice day. You hadn’t argued once. Come to think of it, you hadn’t argued at all since the day you were sick. That little spat on the hill was the last one.
But curiosity ate away at you. What was he going to say that had the potential to ruin your good time? Knowing Harry, it could be any number of things.
“I promise I won’t lose my shit if you tell me.”
His face lit up with amusement, but he never laughed. “Shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep.”
Right there, in that single moment, you were reminded just why the world had an obsession with the man sitting beside you. Even in the blandest setting, Harry Styles looked like the man who would promise you everything you’ve ever wanted and be able to deliver it to you. The man who held enough charisma both on and off stage for a hundred other men. The man with pretty eyes and pretty pink lips. The man who looked damn good whether he was clean-shaven or harbouring two weeks of scruff like he was now. The man who would spoil you to no end, who would give you a life of comfort and stability, who would drop everything at a second’s notice to be yours. Fuck, he looked like the man who might even die for you.
You’d seen Harry in love and the man gave his whole fucking heart and soul to the person he was with. His inherent attractiveness was just a bonus.
“Tell me, please.” You tried again.
He considered it for a moment, chewing the inside of his cheek. Eventually he sighed, “Do you ever wonder how things managed to get so bad? Between us?”
Ah.
A loaded question, indeed.
“Do you want the honest answer?”
He glanced your way, jaw suddenly tense. “I don’t know.”
“I don’t tend to wonder about it because I haven’t forgotten at all how we did.”
“Walk me through it.”
“Are you sure you want that?”
“I wouldn’t expect anything less from the most honest woman I know.”
You were biding your time, mulling over your response. Perhaps this would ruin your nice day, but this was the most open conversation the two of you were ever going to have. Not talking about it would be both a missed opportunity and a disservice to yourself.
“Okay. You’re not going to like it, though.”
“I didn’t expect to.”
You took a deep breath. “The first time I met you didn’t go at all how I expected it to. In hindsight I guess, to you, I would’ve just been a footnote. Your friends have other friends you probably meet all the time and I was just one of the next hundred. Holly and my brother had only just started dating, but Holly and I got on so well we started doing things together as friends without him. She invited me to lunch with… you know, the usual suspects.”
He nodded once, slowly. The usual suspects he wasn’t speaking to anymore for various different reasons. You didn’t keep tabs on Harry’s life by choice, but Holly and the internet provided more about it than you cared for.
“Maybe you were just young. Or maybe there was something different that I just missed or didn’t understand, but you weren’t at all like I expected you to be. Everyone - my brother, Holly, my parents -, everyone said you were amazing. ‘The nicest boy you’ll ever meet’. And sure, you were nice. Charming, even. And you had everyone’s undivided attention, including Holly’s. And mine. But Holly’s more so.
“That girl loves you. And I watched her love you up close and personal and it was amazing and beautiful and I really wanted her to give just even a portion of that love to my brother. And she did, but it didn’t come without a fight.
“I didn’t care that you spent most of that lunch ignoring everyone else at the table. Or maybe I did. I just knew that you only cared about Holly’s undivided attention and she had no quarrels giving it to you. There was a time I thought you might be secretly in love with each other,” you laughed at the reminder because it seemed stupid now, “but when I brought it up with her she laughed so hard she cried and then pretended to vomit.”
“Damn,” Harry produced an offended laugh. “Didn’t know I was that repulsive.”
“Anyway, it didn’t stop her from loving you. Never has. Soon after, I spent a week with her and my brother in Spain on some all-inclusive thing. Before you ask, I was forced to go. Being a third-wheel is absolutely not my style.”
He chuckled. “I didn’t think it sounded like you.”
You shook your head. “Not at all. Anyway, I watched Holly send constant photos, messages, gifs, any and all digital media to you while we were on that holiday, cataloguing the entire thing. I don’t think you realise how many times I heard oh Harry’s gonna love this. But what got me is you never replying to her. Not once. Her phone screen was just a sea of blue messages against a backdrop of silence. At one point I considered she’d got the wrong number, but then you texted her the day we left with something really dull and generic and I really wanted to hit you.”
“I don’t remember this at all.” He admitted, face paled.
“That doesn’t surprise me. You’re a busy man. I reminded myself of that a lot to start off with, but the whole thing became a recurring pattern. Maybe you think I’m stupid and it’s a bit of an overreaction for it, but I’m quite observant when I want to be. You’re Holly’s best friend, even if she’s not yours. Every time she says it, it’s like she’s been given the greatest gift in the entire world. And she’s such a bright, incredible person. She’s my best friend. Not just because she’s married to my brother, but because she’s the best person I’ve ever met and nothing will ever change that.
“Over the years I’ve watched countless messages and phone calls from her to you go unanswered, seen her face turn down with sadness when you don’t call her back or text out a reply. She deserves more than that.
“I’ve noticed you do it to my brother, too. I know he works for you so maybe it’s not the same, but it’s safe to say that in their house, Harry Styles isn’t a name that lights up their phone screens very often. Ever.”
Harry fidgeted a little and cleared his throat. “All this time I thought I’d done something to you.”
“No. Worse. You continually managed to upset my best friend, even if you didn’t know it, and in turn you upset me.”
“Then I’m sorry.”
“It’s not me you need to apologise to, Harry. She’ll never admit that she’s hurt by your silence because she doesn’t want to lose you. This is why we’re so very different. I don’t hang around for people who don’t appreciate the good they have in their life. I’m a good person, and Holly is an even better one. She deserves more than your attention when she’s only sat in front of you.”
“You’re right. I’m an idiot.”
“Yes you are.”
His lips twitched again. “The next time I’m in the village with signal I’ll call her. Promise.”
“Don’t promise me. Promise yourself, and her. One day she might snap and decide she doesn’t want to wait for months at a time to hear from you. Because hearing about you through my brother doesn’t count.”
“I know. I get it, I really do…”
“Good. Now, my turn.” You let out a long breath and turned in your seat. “Why do you hate me so much?”
“I don’t hate you-,”
“You called me both insufferable and intolerable in the space of five minutes when I got here.”
“Let me finish.” He said, exasperated. “I don’t hate you, I’m scared of you.”
“Calling someone intolerable because you’re scared of them doesn’t make any sense.”
“Well, let’s put it this way. While perhaps you were right, at first I thought you were just another friend of a friend who’d made an appearance for uncertain reasons, it became apparent very quickly that you weren’t going anywhere. It also became very apparent that you were not my biggest fan. That first lunch was one of a kind because you barely said a word. Every other time after that, which I now realise happened to be family-oriented, you hardly shut up.
“I’ve always noticed it. You command the attention of everyone in the room. You’re a storyteller. You could turn an anecdote about a trip to the petrol station into a fairytale. You give everyone in the room your undivided attention, and when I realised you never gave it to me, well… safe to say I was wounded. Holly talked you up to high heaven. Your brother loves you. My own mother loves you even though we don’t get on.
“There’s something about you. And the fact that the only attention you ever gave me was a dirty look or a snippy remark made me petty. So I started giving it back, and I think the more I did it, the more I lost sight of the kind of person you actually are, because I only focused on the side you showed to me.”
He turned into the driveway of the cabin, and you thought he was done. But when the engine shut off, he said one last thing.
“In one of your many little outbursts you said I’ve got a severe case of oosoom syndrome. I never bothered to look it up because I didn’t want to know what kind of idiot you thought I was, but it’s just clicked.”
“Out of sight, out of mind.”
He nodded and turned to you with a calm gaze. “I get it now.” He wasn’t just talking about the idiom.
“Good.”
~
The rain was back and heavier than ever. The ground surrounding the cabin was a swamp, the hill that led down to the village was indiscernible thanks to the downpour, and the day was dark and moody. Inside the cabin it was muggy and humid and you felt ridiculous sitting at the dining table in a vest and denim shorts, but you were.
Harry sitting opposite you looked more rugged than usual. His hair was pulled back with a clip, his stubble was shifting into a beard and his clothes were wrinkled.
“Hmm…” He gave an obnoxious tap on his chin.
You rolled your eyes and sunk into the seat. “Just put me out of my misery and show me your cards.”
He laughed, peering at you with a lightness in his eyes that was so unfamiliar it almost had you shell shocked. “Fine.” He placed his hand on the table showcasing his win.
It was day three of this charade. It hadn’t stopped raining and all you’d done was cycle between card games and Monopoly. He always won. You were so fed up of him winning that this was the last straw.
You stood and swiped his hand off the table so that they landed in a flurry on the wooden cabin floor.
“Hey…” he pouted.
“That was childish of me, I’m sorry.” You groaned, and crouched down to pick them up. “I’m so bored, Harry. I think I’m going mad. We don’t even have a TV. We’re in the middle of nowhere with a pack of cards missing the Ace of Spades and Queen of Hearts and an old beat up Monopoly box with half the properties missing.”
He blinked at me. “I know this. I’ve been with you the whole time.”
“Sorry.” You muttered. “When I’m frustrated I just state the obvious.”
“But I thought that was my job.”
You rolled your head back and sighed at the ceiling. “I need to do something. Anything. I don’t want to sit in here anymore. I need air.”
“It’s pissing it down.”
“I’m aware. You have a car… just humour me for a bit. An hour tops.”
“You want me to drive you around for an hour? In a smaller space than we’re already in?”
“Okay, fine,” you sat back down in your chair and attempted to plead with the normal side of him, the non-celebrity side, “what if… when me and my brother were little and we went away with Mum and Dad, if the weather was crap like this we’d get in the car and drive to the nearest supermarket. And we’d have lunch in the cafe and then do a bit of shopping and then come back. And we’d all get one thing to bide the time before the weather got better again. Why don’t we do that?”
A smile was forming on his lips. “You want to try shopping with me again?”
“That prick and his fancy camera won’t be going back there, trust me.”
His eyes narrowed. “Why, what did you do?”
“Nothing you need to worry about.” You patted his hand. “Please, Harry. Rescue me from insanity.”
“Fine, but only ‘cause you asked so nicely.”
“Yay!” You stood and clapped your hands together. “I’m gonna change.”
Half an hour later you were back at the supermarket in the town over and ready to find as much new entertainment as possible.
“Do you think we should buy them a TV?” Harry contemplated aloud as he stood in front of a large flatscreen.
You gave him a scrutinous look. “And put it where?”
“Good point.” He sighed. “We’re missing Love Island.”
You barked a laugh and carried it down the aisle with you. “That is not what I expected you to mourn over.”
“I’m full of surprises.”
You found your way to the games and books. “Can we get a jigsaw puzzle?”
“Why are you asking me? Get whatever you want, mate.”
You perused the options with as much interest as a car fanatic in a vintage car garage. “Farmyard or harbour? Or circus? Or mountains?”
“Whichever will keep you occupied for the longest.” He said absently, moving down the aisle to the board games.
The circus one had the most pieces and highest level of difficulty, so you plucked the box off the shelf and followed after him. “Have they got the Game of Life?”
He started laughing but never answered you.
“Oh,” you pouted, tapping the spin-off version that was much shorter and way less entertaining.
“Bop-It?”
“When I was little I completed that.”
He raised a brow at you. “Can you even complete Bop-It?”
“Yes,” you snatched the box off the shelf, “and I will prove it to you when we get back.”
“We’ll see about that.” He whispered, smirking. “We need an actual board game.”
You gazed over the options with the same level of interest as the jigsaws. “You choose. I’ve picked the last two.”
“Absolutely not, I’ll only pick wrong.”
“What’s your favourite?”
“Cluedo.”
“Then get Cluedo.” You pointed at it and walked away.
Two hours later and three books heavier you were back at the cabin and starting your jigsaw puzzle. You and Harry sat on your claimed sides of the table, box lid propped against the window and a selection of snacks between you.
“Where the fuck is the fourth corner?” You grumbled, digging through the box like a cat in a litter tray.
Harry glanced at the box lid, then at the jumbled selection of tiles, and plucked it out without hesitation. “There y’go.”
You blinked at him. “Is there anything you’re not good at?” You pinched it from him and placed it in the relevant corner. “Thank you.”
“A compliment and gratitude? It is a good day.”
You stuck your tongue out at him.
“I’m not very good at the splits.”
That made you laugh, right from the back of your throat. “Have you tried?”
“Many times.”
“For what purpose?”
“I had a thing for my yoga instructor once and she was convinced I could do it so I kept trying just to impress her.”
“My God, you are a sap.”
“Pathetic, isn’t it?”
“It’s nice to know you failed at something for such a pitiful reason.”
He gave you such a megawatt smile you had to look away. “I’m just like any other boy.”
“I can’t believe you had to try hard to impress anyone. It almost doesn’t seem natural.”
“You make me sound like a robot.”
“I don’t think you’re a robot. I just think sometimes things seem to come a little too easily to you. Skills. Work. Friends. Women. Probably men, too. Some of us have to try really hard to get those things.”
“You have friends. A good job. And I refuse to believe people aren’t interested in you… romantically.”
You lifted a brow at him. “Refuse?”
“Are they not?”
“Have you ever known me to be ‘romantically’ involved with anyone?”
“Yeah, that lad you took to your brother’s wedding.”
Colin.
“He’s gay.”
“Oh.” He scratched his nose. “I wondered why he kept eyeing up one of the groomsmen. Your cousin?”
“Also gay.”
“Have you never had a boyfriend?”
“Not since school, no.”
“Have you… are you… you know?”
You gave him another raised brow. “You’re not seriously asking me that.”
He rubbed his hands down his face and groaned. “I’m sorry. Ignore me.”
“Just because I haven’t had relationships, doesn’t mean I’m a virgin, Harry.”
The tips of his ears turned pink. “I think we’ve gone a bit off track here.”
“You’re tellin’ me.”
He slotted a piece into place next to one of the corners. You slotted another one in after that. The pattern repeated itself, in silence, for the next twenty minutes.
“When do you go to your AirBnB?”
You met his gaze with a calm expression. “Six days. Five nights.”
“Okay.” He said as he stood. “Are you hungry enough for dinner yet?”
“If you are, we can eat.”
He gave a stiff nod. “Okay.”

slow down (you're doing fine) sequel unrevised snippet because I'm procrastinating on finishing slow down itself and having Mav&Brad feels
.
The light from the living room turned on — he was covered by the terrace curtains enough that it was merely a warm shade coming from the cracked door. He heard bare footsteps, and a shadow flickering through the heavy fabric, until a familiar figure showed up.
Mav closed the terrace behind himself, plopping on the sandy wooden panels, until he was sitting down on Bradley’s left. He looked at his hands, at the phone, at Jake still left on read on the screen — Bradley switched it off and put it under his thigh.
“Couldn’t sleep?” he asked. He rubbed his eyes but didn’t look that sleepy either — just a bit tired, in that long-drawn, frustrated way when one wanted to rest but couldn’t no matter how hard they tried.
Bradley shrugged. He probably could sleep, he’d slept after he had done and said far worse things than today. He didn’t want to, it was almost like a punishment, staying awake until he fixed the problem. Until he stopped running away. He couldn't make himself fix anything, staying stagnant as the ball of anxiety and the dread about the inevitable grew.
“Still thinking about Hangman?”
He didn’t answer and maybe it was an answer in itself — Mav gave him an affectionate sigh.
“You remember that time when my deployment ran longer last minute? When you were about twelve.”
He gave him a glance — it was an out-of-nowhere question. “Yeah I was so upset that Ice took me flying the day after you were supposed to get back. In the Tomcat.”
It hadn’t been long after Ice came back from Bosnia. Bradley had been missing Mav so badly that he would cry himself to sleep whenever Ice wasn’t looking careful enough — he was still a bit messed up after his mom’s death and scared that one day, Ice’d have to tell him Mav wasn’t coming back.
Mav was supposed to be gone twelve weeks but last minute, Ice told him it’d take some more time before Mav’d come back, and it ended up closer to four months rather than three. Bradley had yelled at Ice’s face, then cried in his arms for about an hour, until he fell asleep, begging him to get Mav back to them.
“It didn't run over,” Mav said after a moment. His breathing was loud and Bradley saw him shake his head in the corner of his eye. He turned to face him and Mav’s eyes were already waiting at him, full of regret and fear, his mouth just slightly quirked. “I didn't know what I was doing, Bradley. Both my best friends were gone, I was never supposed to be a dad and here you were, completely dependable on me having my shit together, and then we were doing so well with Ice, and it was just so much—”
He hadn’t known. In his eyes, they always seemed to have a grip on everything, always seemed to have the answers to all of Bradley’s problems. They were the heroes of Bradley’s life.
“I knew I was going to fuck it up somehow, you and him, and I thought, better sooner than later, right.”
It was familiar — waiting on the other shoe to drop, and when he had been waiting and waiting and nothing fell on his head, removing himself from the situation before he got hit. Better to disappoint from the start than wait infinitely until they find you out for who you really were. Can’t be hurt if you never let them hurt yourself. Can’t hurt them if you’re not long enough for that with them.
That was a lie, no matter how hard he’d pretend to believe it — there was always someone hurt.
“So I didn't tell Ice anything and stayed in Virginia instead of taking a layover flight to California with everyone. Gave Merlin a letter to hand Ice when he met him at the airport and realized I was nowhere in sight.”
Bradley had always thought he was a coward, not facing Jake, just leaving in his absence when things became complicated, when they became too tied to each other. Maybe it was a family thing.
“I can't do it, please don't wait for me. Take care of Bradley. That's all it said.”
Mav creased his eyebrows, shook his head, almost like he was doing it at his past self.
Bradley didn’t know what to say.
“Took me almost three weeks to get back in my right mind. I showed up at home at two in the morning absolutely ready to beg him to forgive me and instead he told me to stay quiet so I wouldn't wake you up and then said I'd be doing laundry and the dishes for a month if I didn't go straight to sleep. Slept with me in the same bed the first night back, even."
Mav bit down on his lip, huffed, just a tiny, humorless sound, and looked at his hands — he was twirling his wedding ring around on his finger.
“I don't know how I could even think that I could ever live without you in my life, those three weeks. Both of you.”
That was the difference between the two of them. They might have both been cowards, running away from something great, that could turn bad at any moment — Mav came back.
Mav came back and Ice was already waiting for him, expecting him back. He faced the consequences and fixed everything, faced the option that he could fuck it all up at any moment and accepted the risks to gamble for something better and sweeter.
Mav kept on trying. Bradley’d only kept on running away his whole life.
He had been running so long that it didn’t feel like he could stop. Like he deserved to stop.
"So I could tell you that you deserve him but I know it's really hard to believe it, sometimes, and no amount of saying it will change your mind," Mav continued. "But it’s not about deserving him. He chose you, Bradley. He chose you, who are you to decide he’s wrong?”
Bradley—blinked. It was impossible to hear, to understand — he’d always thought it more as if Jake was sentenced to loving him. People didn’t choose their sentences.
They did choose to commit the crimes.
“It’s hard to believe you deserve it, but he chose you and he’ll keep choosing you,” Mav said and the wobbly note of familiarity made him felt dangerously seen. “So until you can believe it, you try your best to be the man he deserves to have, until you’re ready to believe it. You come back, how many times it doesn’t take—"
He bit down on his tongue, taking in a big, unhelpful gulp of air. His eyes were watering and he couldn’t stop it, the wetness itching in his nose even as he squeezed his eyes shut — Mav bumped their shoulders just as he sniffled stiffly.
"I think we should have talked about it more, show you more that we struggled too. We always tried to keep you out of the loop if we thought we could make it without you being affected and I always thought that it was just something parents were supposed to do," he said. "Maybe if we didn’t then you wouldn't feel like this now."
Bradley could only shake his head rapidly, because that wouldn't be true. His parents did his best with him, he had been doomed to turn up a little fucked up the minute his dad died, at least, if not the day his mom herself got orphaned and met Mav in the foster system. Maybe their family was just meant to turn up all bent out of shape.

Summary: you come back home for a year but you find yourself deeply in love with your childhood friend again but once it’s time to part ways it gets hard.
Warnings:fluff, tears
——————————-
Y/n POV
It was a cold morning in Athens and I was waking up in a room that wasn’t mine. It was joes. Joe Burrow, my best friend since kindergarten and the only person i have ever loved is holding me in his arms. I’m supposed to leave back to New York City today. My work needs me back after I’ve been gone for a year. My dad passed away last year and I came to spend time with mom to make sure she has been doing ok. She is doing much better but I’m still worried. Thankfully the Burrows are right across the street and come over all the time to check up on her. Joe and I confessed our feelings towards each other a couple months ago but we haven’t told our families yet. We want to keep it on the low for now. But I am devastated I have to leave joe. I cried in his arms last night as he shed a few tears himself. I didn’t want to leave him but I have to get back to work and he has to start off season training tomorrow and Athens is two hours away so he is leaving late this morning as I am leaving late tonight so we have to say goodbye. It was seven in the morning when Joe and I both got up.
“Good morning!”-joe
“Good morning Joey!”-you
I kissed him on the lips
“What time do you leave?”-you
“Eleven”-Joe
“What about you? What time is your flight?”-joe
“My plane takes off at 8 tonight.”-you
“Oh ok”-joe
“I don’t want to go.”-you
“I know, I don’t want you to go either. But we will call every night I promise.”-joe
“Deal!”-you
Joe kissed me again and I put my head on his chest.
“We should get up.”-joe
“Yeah, I bet my mom is waiting for me.”-you
“At seven in the morning?”-joe
“I know crazy! But she gets up early.”-you
“Oh,ok!”-joe
We got up and went to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth as Joe fixed his hair. After we were done we went downstairs.
“Good morning!”- Robin
“Good morning!”-you and Joe say in unison
“Here do you guys want some coffee?”-Robin
“I would love some, but I better get going I need to pack and make sure everything is ready.”-you
“Ok! We will stop by later y/n to say goodbye!”-Robin
“Ok! Sounds perfect!”-you
Joe came up to me and walked me out.
“I will see you later?”-you
“Yes! See ya later!”-joe
I gave him a peck on the cheek and walked across the street to my house. My mom was in the kitchen making breakfast and coffee and asked me how the night was. I told her that I was sad to leave and Joe came and comforted me. I think my mom knew something was up but didn’t say anything. Once I was done having breakfast I decided to go up stairs to get ready and finish packing.
I put on leggings and a crewneck. I ran my fingers through my curled hair that flattened a little bit and put some light makeup on. I then got to packing. Putting last minute stuff in like toilet trees, a coat, and my shoes. I then decided once I was done with that to look at my emails and do some work. After a few hours of sitting at my childhood desk that still had little drawings on it I decided to be done with work. As I put my computer away I heard the doorbell ring and ran downstairs. Joe and his parents were at the door coming to say their goodbyes since they are going to be gone the whole day.
“It was so great seeing you again y/n! You have always been like a daughter to me and i am so proud of you for all that you a have accomplished and taking care of my son.”-Robin
“Awww Robin! Thank you for taking me in as apart of the family and I will miss you! I promise to call and text!”-you
“Good!”-Robin
After hugging Robin I moved to jimmy, joes dad who has always been a father figure to me.
“So proud of you y/n! And thanks for being friends with my weird son.”-Jimmy
“Haha! Of course, and thank you!”-you
After hugging Jimmy I moved to Joe. We were standing outside saying our goodbyes to each other but Joe is leaving now and I can’t stand to let him go.
“Hi!”-you
“Come here you weirdo.”-joe chuckled
He wrapped me into his embrace and just held me. Tears started rolling down my face as I buried my head in his chest. I could tell joes eyes started to get filled with tears.
“I’m going to miss you Joe, so much.”-you
“I know, but I’m going to miss you even more.”-joe
I looked up at him as my arms were still wrapped around his waist as his were to mine. I then put my hands on his cheeks.
“You are going to do great this season Joey. I know it! Just breathe and focus, don’t worry about anything else. And please don’t go hurting yourself ok?”-you
“I promise y/n, and thank you! I know you are going to be great being back at work and will get that promotion I just know it! I will miss you so much.”-joe
He then pulls me in for a passionate kiss leaving our parent’s mouths wide open. I of course kiss him back more passionately and pat his shoulder telling him to get on the road before I start crying even more. He nods and pulls his family in to one last hug before getting in his car and looking back at me then driving off. I turn around and cross my arms with tears streaming down my face. As I walk up the steps I hear distant tires screech and a car door being slammed and I turn around to see Joe running up to me as I walk down to see what’s going on. He then runs up to me and pulls me into a very deeply passionate kiss then the first. I kiss him back.
He pulls away and puts his forehead on mine as one of his hands is rubbing my cheek as the other is on my waist and my arms are around his neck.
“I love you y/n, just thought you should know that.”-joe
I chuckled
“I love you more.”-you
“Not possible!”-joe
He then pulls me into another kiss then heads back to his car and drives off into the distance. My mom held out her arm as I crashed into her side and hugged her.
“It will be ok baby!”- your mom
“I know.”-you
We walked back into the house and hung out until it was time for me to leave.
“You got everything?”-your mom
“Yes! My Uber is here! I love you mom so much!”-you
“Aww sweetie! I love you to! Be safe!”-your mom
I hugged her and went out the door into the car and off I was.
————————
A couple months later
“Can’t believe I’m back!”-you
“I know! I’m so happy your job moved you to Cincinnati!”-your mom
My job promoted me which means I move to Cincinnati. I flew in last night with all my stuff and moved into my new apartment just near Paycor Stadium. It was game day and Joe has no idea I’m here and has no idea I moved back. Joe and I have been calling and texting nonstop so it was hard not to tell your boyfriend that you are moving back and finally get to spend time with him. I told joes parents and they said I have to come and surprise Joe at his first game and I happily agreed.
I was wearing black leather pants that snatched me up with a black body suit and my fur leather coat with boots. Robin, jimmy, and my mom and I were walking onto the field. I was so nervous to see Joe but also really excited.
“Yo y/n!”- tee
“Hey tee!”- you
“I don’t know you are in town!”-tee
“Yeah! I actually just moved back! I’m here to surprise Joe and tell him the news!”-you
“Omg that’s awesome! Congrats! Joe is over there next to coach!”-tee
“Thanks!” Catch you later!”-you
Tee waved goodbye and I started heading over to Joe. He was in an all white uniform looking so dang cute. As we were walking Joe and I made eye contact. He made a very confused face and his coach even looked over and patted him on his shoulder and walked away. Joes then realized it was me and a big smile grew on his face as he ran over.
He picked me up and twirled me around.
“Oh my god! I can’t believe it! What are you doing here?”-joe said putting me down as his hands were still on my waist
“I came to see you! And to tell you that I got the promotion and I’m now going to live here full time!”-you
“Seriously! Y/n that’s awesome! I’m so proud of you!You deserved it! Wait, does that mean I get to see you everyday?”-joe
“Yess!”-you
“YESS!”-joe
He picked me up again then kissed me. I was kinda surprised because I know he hates PDA but the fans were going crazy over Joe and seeing him pick someone off their feet and kiss them. But I wasn’t complaining!
“I got to go! But I love you y/n! Have fun and I will see you after!”-joe
“Ok! I love you Joe so much, and you are going to do amazing and remember what I told you just breathe.”-you
“I will, baby!”-joe
He then hugged his parents and my mom and jogged away. Then we all went up to the suit to watch the game! And of course they won! I was so dang proud!

Sandwiches
Summary: Dan’s delayed coming home from winter testing. Emmy’s in bed. Fluff.
March 2019
The flight from Barcelona to London wasn’t long, but Dan was exhausted. Two weeks of winter testing meant his brain was mush in a good way. The car felt good. Not great, but he was comfortable. He could work with comfortable. But then there was a delay so they were diverted to Gatwick and it was a pain getting through. But finally after far too long he was getting his bag and getting into the taxi with Blake.
Emmy hadn’t replied to his landed text so hopefully she was actually asleep for once. She never really slept when he was driving, even in testing when it was safe. But then they were in the taxi and he put his phone away so he didn’t smile stupidly at it and give everything away. Having his manager and one of his best mates living next door to his girl was awkward for so many reasons. Especially this one.
“Talk to you tomorrow, Mate? Well, today?” Blake asked and Dan shook his head.
“Day off? Weekend off, fuck it. When’s the next thing I actually have to do? Sim work, right?”
“Sim on Monday yeah.”
“Fuck it. We’re off this weekend. I’m gonna spend it sleeping and stretching.”
“See ya.”
The driver pulled back onto the road until Dan got him to stop beside the 24 hour shop. “Just here, thanks.”
“I thought you were out further?”
“My girl’s in his building and we’re keeping it quiet for now. We’re all friends.”
“Good luck.”
It was a ten minute wait to make sure Blake was actually in his place before Dan started the minute walk down the street. He spent the time productively and picked up a bouquet of flowers for Em. They’d very carefully ignored Valentines Day, unwilling to have that conversation and let his heart be broken if she didn’t feel the same way he did. So instead it was purple and yellow tulips that he had in his hand while he climbed the three sets of stairs to get to the tiny attic apartments.
Opening the front door by pushing in the one spot guaranteed not to squeak, the first thing he noticed was the chill in the air. A quick glance at the crap storage heaters showed they were supposed to be on, but there was no heat emitting from them. Fucking landlord too cheap to fix it even when Dan had called multiple times after Em had. She’d repeated the story about how the handyman taught her how to use the heaters instead of checking them one too many times, her “I was using them in uni halls and I was warmer then, Danny!” filling the air.
Sitting in the middle of the table was a beeswax wrap covered plate and a bottle of water. Pulling the wrap off he discovered the BLT sitting there on crusty bread. His girl always left him something if she was going to bed, crisp bacon and tomatoes that were well insulated to stop the bread going soggy making him so happy. This was home. The way no matter what was going on Em made sure to have a sandwich waiting for him to get back to her if he was due in at night. For the first time in too long there was someone who cared about him just because she liked him and that was magical.
He finished eating and took a swallow from the bottle before capping it and wrapping his arms around himself to keep the heat. It was quick to brush his teeth and run a cloth over his face to get the worst of the travel grime off. But finally he pushed open the bedroom door to see the best thing. His Emmy was curled up on the side of the bed he usually slept on, a black and yellow hoodie on to keep her warm in the March chill. Her arms were wrapped around the Jigglypuff plushie he’d bought for her in Japan the year before and she was so peaceful it nearly hurt him to have to get her to move. He pulled his clothes off quickly and pushed the starry night duvet out of the way so he could slip into the bed.
“I’m back, Emmy. It’s just me,” he murmured as her eyes opened and a grin spread across her sleepy face.
“Missed you.”
“Missed you too.” He kissed the top of her head as she curled up against his chest and tried to get comfy again. A moment later he felt her shuffle and watched as her hands moved her hoodie up.
“What’s up?”
“Wanna feel your skin. Know it’s you. I-“ She was cut off by a yawn. “The hoodie made me think you were Jigglypuff but I’m too sleepy.”
“I’ve got you. Hands up for a minute.” It took less than a minute for him to pull her hoodie off and throw it across the room, leaving her bare skin pushed against his as they curled under the blankets and got warm again.
“Nigh-night Danny. Tell me about testing tomorrow. We’ve got time.” Dan watched Em’s eyes close as she curled in tighter, their legs tangling together. They were flying to Australia in a couple of days to spend time in Perth before Melbourne and he couldn’t wait. It was two and a bit weeks that he got to spend almost entirely with Em curled up beside him with his family there. In the quiet of the night he could admit it to himself. He couldn’t wait to spend time at his home race with the woman he was in love with.

“Happy Birtday Dumbass”
Hasan Piker X Reader
Warning:cussing but that’s it
A/n: I’m so sorry for whatever this bullshit is I’m high asf right now and I proof read this as best as I could.
————////———-////———-////———-
You and Hasan rarely fought. Yes you argued over trivial things sometimes, but you could count on your fingers the amount of times you actually had a bad fight and boy was this a bad fight. It all started Monday, you had spent the whole summer so far trying to help your best friend move down to North Carolina, God knows why, with you being away for the a few months you had seen Hasan only a few times through June and July , but you made sure you would be there for his birthday. Now you may be wondering where the fighting came in and here’s the answer. One night you had been on the phone with your boyfriend, trying to find a cheap flight, but they were all pricey.
“Y/n don’t worry if it’s that big of a deal I’ll just buy the ticket.” Hasan said tired of your complaining. You were quick to shoot that down by saying, “Oh absolutely not It’s supposed to be your birthday party and I would feel bad if you bought the ticket.” He sighed, “Y/n, could just stop complaining then, I’m trying to be nice, but you’ve literally just bitched this whole call.” Normally Hasan wouldn’t have said something like this to 𝘺𝘰𝘶, but today had stressed him out, his stream was glitching and Austin was late to the podcast and it threw everything off. He never meant to bring his anger out on you, but he had and you weren’t about to take that, “Excuse me”, you said taken aback by his change in tone, “I’m so sorry that I was trying to do something nice for your fuckin birthday and yea what if I started complaining? These Flights aren’t cheap and it’s frustrating !” He sighed into the phone, “Then don’t come”, he said lowly. “What are you even saying?” You said quietly. “If it’s such an inconvenience the don’t show up.” He stated. You hadn’t meant to say it, but you did, “Fine”, you hung up the phone with a sigh.
2 days had past and Hasan hadn’t reached out. Too be fair you hadn’t either, but even so you still planned on making it to his party, which is why you were up at 3 am trying to book a flight for tomorrow and finally you got a good deal. Hasan was having a dinner around 7 with his friends and your flight landed at 5:30 so you decided to make a call.
“Hey Austin I need your help.” You said after he picked up on the 4th ring.
“Y/n what the fuck I was asleep!?” He said groggily trying to make sense of why you were calling.
“So yea can you pick me up and take me with you tomorrow?” You asked after explaining everything that had happened.
“Of course y/n/n, but seriously if you wake me up like this one more time I’ll beat you ass.” You snorted as he said that. After a few more minutes of talking you said bye and hung up.
After your plane landed you went to look for Austin and once you made eye contact you ran up and hugged him. “Oh my god I missed you so much bitch!” You both laughed. He broke the hug and led you to the car. You were nervous to say the least, you didn’t know if Hasan would still be pissed or if he would be happy to see you. You really didn’t want to ruin his birthday for him. Austin seemed to notice your worrying because he looked at you and said, “Don’t worry y/n he misses you he just wants to give you space.” You nodded and soon the conversation drifted off into how Austin’s love life was going which made the drive go by quicker, and soon you were parked at Hasans house. God you missed this place. Austin ran up the door, knocked and shouted, “Hasan it’s Austin I brought you an amazing present.” The door began to open, “Austin why the fuck are you thirty minutes la- y/n?” Hasan locked eyes with you, you wanted to hug him and run your hands through his curls right there, but you resisted. Austin walked into the house and winked at you. Hasan shut the door and you immediately fell into him not caring if he was mad or not you just needed him, he wrapped his arms around you. “Y/n I thought you weren’t gonna come.” He sighed. You looked up at him, “Hasan I’m so sorr-“, he cut you off, “No I am you didn’t do anything I was just being a dick.” You laughed, “Yea you kinda were.” He smiled and you got on your tip toes to kiss him. You giggled into the kiss and he whispered, “I love you”
“Happy birthday dumbass.”

"I just wanna be yours..."
Once again based of a song:
You loved him, and you always have. Since the day you first saw him at the mirror chamber you fell for him instantly. You felt your heart pound when you saw him, and you was scared your heart would jump out of your chest. You've kept this to yourself, of course.
Over time you became friends with Idia. You started to talk to him one day at flight class, and it went from there. He started inviting you over to his room often also. Today you was supposed to go to his room to play games, so here you were, in front of his door. You knocked then waited. The door then opened with a creek "Oh, hey MC, come inside" Idia fully opened the door and let you step in, then closing the door behind you. The screen had [insert game] on it so you two could play. You took a seat and took the controller you always used, and Idia took his seat next to you.
You two played for quite some time having an absolute blast and it was starting to get late out. "I should probably get going, Idia, I had a blast today though!" Idia said a "bye" and you then grabbed your coat and left. You walked back to ramshackle silently with your hands in your pockets. The only thing heard was the cold wind and your footsteps. You wanted to tell him how much you loved him. How you adored him, but then again you were gonna have to go back home soon. Or, atleast that's what Crowley said. Either way you didn't want to risk it. You got to ramshackle and took off your coat and shoes, then going to bed. Although, you couldn't. No matter how much you twisted and turned. No matter how much you you counted sheep. You couldn't sleep, and you knew exactly why. These feelings you were keeping in your heart was something you had to tell him. Afterall, if you did end up leaving, you'd want him to atleast know.
The next morning you got up and immediately headed to class. Class felt as if it was forever, but it eventually ended. You immediately left, planning on going to Idia's room, but while walking down the hallway you bumped into someone. It was Idia. Now was the time to tell him.
"Listen, Idia, I've gotta tell you something" You said. He raised a brow "What is it MC?" You were beyond nervous, but now was the time. "These secrets I've held in my heart are harder to keep than I thought, and I-" You hesitated. "I just wanna be yours" You finally said. You felt a wash of relief come over you. Now it was out. The tip of Idia's hair turned pink, along with his cheeks, and he became a bit fidgety with his hands. "I...uh...well, I feel the same way" He said the last part in a mumble. Now, over time, your relationship grew. And here two were in the mirror chamber waving goodbye to everyone. "Hey, Idia" You walked up to him. "Yes?" Idia had a tear dropping down his cheek. "I was happy to be yours." You smiled, wiping the tear away then hugging him. "I'll miss you dear!" You told him then walking to the mirror and walking through it. "I'll miss you to, my player 2"

Lock & Key: Part Three
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: ANGST, their backstory and some emotions.
-
The next morning, you and your Dad got ready and biked out to base like you had the previous day. Your Dad didn't tell you what you'd be doing today so you were excited for what lay ahead. Last night after the bar, you tried to pry the thoughts of Rooster out of your head. But that was a task that seemed impossible.
He had really grown up since you last saw his relatively scrawny body in high school. You hadn't seen much behind the flight suit or the polo shirts but you definitely noticed his larger arms and thighs last night. He was always tall. He grew to 6 feet when you were quite young but apart from his height, he seemed to be a late bloomer.
The last night the two of you shared together was after prom, when he decided not to take you and to take one of the gorgeous girls in his gym class, despite him knowing that you were leaving the next day. So, you had to go to prom alone (because your Dad forced you to go), and you sat and watched Bradley dance with Jessica or Jane or whatever her name was, as you wallowed in a corner.
Eventually, you had enough and ran out the school doors as fast as you could, the bottom of your pale pink dress dragging on the dirty concrete. You remember standing outside in the cool air, wrapping your arms around yourself and just crying. All you wanted was to spend a night with him. With Brad. Your supposed best friend. And he was so pissed at you leaving, he took another girl to prom.
But, he ran out after you, and saw you sitting on a bench, hiding from the summer rain that was pouring down a few feet away from you. You had your arms squeezed tightly around you and your head was leaned back against the brick wall, breathing in and out.
All he remembers about that moment was how gorgeous you looked and how much he missed you. He had never revealed his feelings to you because he didn't want to complicate things. Your Dad had a 'no pilots' rule and you and Bradley had wanted to follow in your fathers' footsteps from the moment you both saw a fighter jet. But he couldn't hold his feelings back. Not when you were moving London and your Dad was moving to Nevada. He had to tell you.
He walked up to you tentatively, his footsteps light and unsure of how to approach you. You opened your eyes and looked to your left, seeing Bradley walking slowly towards you as if he was scared. You sniffled and wiped your nose, clearing your throat before you spoke.
"If you're going to sit and tell me about how great she is at dancing then I don't want to hear it, Brad." You told him, your voice shaky from crying.
He shook his head, his eyebrows scrunching together in regret as he moved towards you and sat at the opposite end of the bench. Great. More distance.
"I'm not. And you know how good you are at dancing." He tried to joke.
You didn't laugh or smile. You just glared at him with black eyes.
"If I was such a great dancer then why did you ditch me to go with her?" You asked, feeling another wave of sobs rising in your throat.
He stuttered, unsure of what to say. You just scoffed and leaned forward to rest your elbows on your knees. You wiped your eyes and stood up, looking down at him.
"You always told me you'd take me to prom. And listen, I get that it's shit that I'm moving, but London is my dream and I'm not going to let the opportunity slip through my fingers, Brad." You raised your voice, trying to balance out the shakiness with volume.
"Why couldn't you have stayed here with me?" He asked you, looking up into your eyes with a certain hopefulness.
You wiped away the new stream of tears from your cheeks, "I never wanted to be here while Dad was here, and you know it. You know how many people already tell me I'm where I am just because of Dad and his connections? I want a clean slate."
He hung his head and tapped his foot in annoyance. You bit your lip, trying to stop yourself from letting out any more pathetic sobs. Bradley fiddled with his fingers, trying to figure out something to say.
But he stayed silent for a while.
You scoffed, interrupting the silence.
"You know what, I'm done. I'm going home. I'll let you know when I'm off the plane tomorrow."
You turned on your painful heels and started walking away, around to the side of the school where you'd have to eventually make a run for it in the rain to get to your bike.
"y/n, stop. y/n!" You heard him call after you as you walked as fast as you could from him.
You turned the corner and you could see your bike through the rain and the dim streetlights. Once you got out of sight from Bradley, you leaned against the wall, listening to the rain and the muffled sound of Britney Spears from inside. You took deep breaths and tried to gain the courage to step out and into the rain.
"y/n."
The voice behind you boomed like thunder, causing your heart to drop. You didn't want to hear what he had to say, you just wanted to leave and go home. You just wanted to go home.
You didn't even look behind you as you started running to your bike, soaked to the bone in about 2 seconds of being in the rain.
"y/n! What the hell are you doing?!" Brad shouted after you.
"I'm going home, Bradley. That's what I'm doing!" You replied as you ran, nearly slipping in your heels at one point.
You heard splashes of footsteps behind you and you cursed to yourself, knowing you'd never outrun him. So you stopped and spun abruptly round to meet him face-to-face.
"What?" You spat.
He was now standing with you in the rain. His hair was black now, and dripping onto his face and down his neck. His white shirt had begun to go see through and his black jacket looked heavier and heavier on his broad shoulders. The dim lights of the street and the vague moonlight hit his face, highlighting his cheekbones and the few scars that peppered his skin.
"I think I'm in love with you." He blurted out, raising his voice over the noise of the rain.
His confession hit you unexpectedly, knocking the wind out of you, causing you to only reply with, "What?"
He nodded, "I think I've been in love with you forever. And I just never told you because I didn't want to ruin us and what we have. But you're leaving and I can't stop you, but what I can do, is tell you the truth."
You stared into his dark eyes, his long eyelashes bunching up into separated clumps with the water. He was telling you something you've been waiting to hear for your whole life. But it was so late. Why was he only telling you now? You couldn't tell if you were overjoyed or pissed off.
"Brad, I don't know...I can't..." You stumbled over your words, seemingly unable to form a cohesive thought.
"I'm leaving tomorrow! What do you want from me?" You managed to say.
He looked dumbfounded at your question.
"I want...I want you."
Your mouth hung open at his reply. He wiped a hand over his face and groaned.
"That's all I've ever wanted my entire life, y/n. All I've wanted is you. And I know how shit this timing is but I couldn't have told you any other day-"
"Yes you could have! Brad, I've loved you since you gave me your stupid cowboy hat in pre-school. You could have told me yesterday, or five years ago, or 16 years ago and I would have said I love you, too. Because I do! But...but now it's too late..."
His heart stopped in that moment. The fleeting moment of joy rushed through and past him and then he was hit with absolute dread.
He wasn't going to let you go that easy.
"No it's not." He said, shaking his head and placing his hands on his hips.
You scrunched your eyebrows in confusion, "Yes it is, Brad."
He kept shaking his head, "No it's not."
You scoffed, "Brad-"
He lunged forward before you could get another word in. One of his hands clasped the back of your neck, the other reaching around your waist. Your lips crashed into each other's, your hands instinctively going to his face. You both stumbled back for a second before you gained control and balance. You couldn't even register what was happening until you started moving your lips against his, tasting him for the first time after yearning for it for so long.
The rain poured down on you, and Brad moved both of his hands to your waist, pulling you in even closer to his soaked chest. One hand cradled your back, his fingers dipping into the crook of your spine. His tongue licked into your mouth and that's when the realisation hit.
You slid your hands to his shoulders and pushed him back from you. He hardly moved but he had to regain his balance. Confused, he looked at you as your fingers ghosted over your lips.
"Did I...should I have...fuck, y/n, I'm sorry." He apologised, running his hands into his hair.
You looked shocked. And you were. You weren't about to tell him that was your first kiss. It's not that you didn't want to kiss him, because you had practically waited your entire life to kiss him. It was just all happening so fast.
"y/n, just forget about it. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have done that."
And he was apologising. Clearly he regretted it. Now you felt shit because he was just caught up in the moment. Did he feel bad for you? Is that what it is? He was going to miss you so he just threw in a kiss in hopes of getting something. Fuck him.
"I'm going home, Bradley." You said quietly.
You turned away and walked to your bike. He ran his hands through his hair again and cursed.
"I've got the car, I'll drive you. It's pouring with rain and it's at least a 15 minute ride. Come on, it'll be quicker and drier if I drive you."
"You've been drinking, Brad." You said, trying to remember where you put your keys.
"And you haven't?" He retorted.
You paused.
A dry, warm car ride did sound more ideal than a depressing bike ride back. You sighed and debated your choices before turning around.
"You can drive me."
You both ran to his car and you got in the passenger side, slamming the door shut. Bradley got in after you and put the key in the ignition, starting up the crappy engine. He turned the heat up all the way and you both put your seatbelts on before he drove out of the car park.
The car ride was silent. Only the lashings of the rain hitting the car window and the sound of the windshield wipers screeching back and forth filled the quiet. Brad's fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel. Clearly he had some sort of song in his head or maybe he was just trying to distract himself.
You twiddled your thumbs and looked down at your ruined dress for the whole car ride. You pulled the bobble out of your hair and any pins and clips you had in there so your hair could fall down naturally. You sighed, massaging your sore scalp before looking in the passenger wing mirror. Your hair was drenched and returning to it's natural form.
After an agonising fifteen minutes, Bradley pulled up outside your house, turning the engine off and sitting with you in more silence.
You shifted in your seat, getting ready to leave but he jumped in.
"I'm sorry about the kiss." He said, gulping nervously.
You finally managed to look at him and his stupid puppy dog eyes.
"Why? Was it that bad?" You replied.
He stuttered over his words, unsure if he should take a sarcastic route or a serious one.
"N-no, it wasn't bad at all-"
"Relax. I'm kidding." You exhaled.
He hummed in defeat and nodded.
"I've been waiting for that kiss since like 1st grade." You said softly, looking down at your lap with a fond smile on your face.
Brad shifted in his seat.
"R-really?" He cleared his throat.
You nodded, looking up and ahead out the window, unclipping your seatbelt.
"I've always wanted you to be my first kiss."
You looked at him. And he looked at you. His eyes burned into your soul. Something about his deep brown gaze tore into every part of you.
"That was your first kiss?" He asked quietly in disbelief.
You smiled, "Yeah. And I'm glad it was you."
You waited for something to happen. And then it didn't. Your words disappeared into the air and nothing was done about it. You chewed the inside of your lip, knowing that this was it.
Your hand reached for the door handle but you stopped when you felt his hand lay over your lower thigh. Your skin burned, heat rushing from your thighs to your core, your breath escaping your lungs in shock.
"Can I be your second, too?" He asked lowly.
-
The night ended with you losing your virginity to him in his car and the agonising goodbye that came swiftly after it. When you tell people you two didn't leave on the best terms...it was the truth. Because the goodbye was so painful, neither of you knew how to deal with it correctly. So it ended up with Bradley begging you to stay, and you begging him to come with you. But you were both too ambitious to let your education slip away. So, you left. And you hadn't heard from him since...now.
When you got to base, you slipped off your bike and tucked your helmet away, your Dad doing the same. You both walked inside together, chatting about how last night went. You had told him you and Rooster had a short discussion that ended with him paying your round. Dad was very amused by that.
You parted ways as you made your way to the locker room to get changed into your flight suit.
You and Phoenix got ready and walked out onto the tarmac together, greeting the rest of your team.
"How hungover is everyone?" Hangman asked as you two joined the circle.
There were mixed answers amongst the group, but generally everyone felt okay. Pilots always had limits with drinking if you were flying the next day.
"Let's all say a huge thank you to Locket for tattling on Rooster." Phoenix added, comically bowing to you.
You laughed, "Don't thank me, thank the guy that disrespected not only a female, but a female pilot."
Rooster smirked and nodded, taking his defeat. You both shared a look before averting your eyes to Cayote.
"What do you think mad man has in store for us, today?" He asked the group.
You snickered at the nickname. He wasn't far off.
"I don't know. He is crazy, though. I've never experienced an instructor do anything like he did with us yesterday." Fanboy said.
"How is he not fired yet, is my question." Payback commented.
"He's a legend." Bob added.
You were biting your lip, trying to stop yourself from smiling. You didn't know why it was so funny being in a group of pilots that didn't know who your dad was to you. You hadn't experienced that since London.
"You don't like him?" Hangman asked you.
The group went silent. You swallowed and looked at him in confusion.
"Why would you say that?"
He shrugged, looking around the group, "You don't say much about him."
"Just because I don't voice my opinion of him doesn't mean I don't have one." You retorted.
Hangman hummed, "Just weird you've literally said nothing about Mav any time we talked about him."
You kept direct eye contact with him, not letting him catch you in the act.
"Sometimes it's better to keep quiet, Bagman. Maybe you should try it some time."
Everyone smirked around you, attempting not to laugh. Hangman stared you down and nodded, appreciating but not necessarily enjoying the words that came out of your mouth.
"Good morning, aviators." Your Dads voice echoed from behind you.
-
You were briefed on the training mission ahead. You and your fellow pilots were doing a simulation of the mission you were training for. The GPS had all the information on it and the planes were ready to go.
Max ceiling was 300 feet and the time to target was only 3 minutes. Your Dad wished you good luck and sent half of you on your way. Rooster was chosen as team leader for the first group. You were his wingman and Bob was your backseater.
You and Rooster looked at each other with a sense of dread that you were put together. You'd rather be Hangman's wingman at this point. You looked to your Dad and he nodded, giving you the 'it's now or never' look. You and Rooster didn't say two words to each other until you were in the jet.
The flight started out good, the g-force was a strain but you and Rooster were doing fine so far.
"Increase speed, we're 20 seconds behind schedule." Bob informed you.
"Rooster, increase speed now." You repeated, grunting as you turned a sharp corner.
"Negative, speed is good. Stay on track." Rooster replied.
You cut another corner with a grunt.
"Locket, if we don't increase speed now we'll not make it." Bob reiterated.
You sighed, "Rooster, we are not gonna make it! Increase speed!" You raised your voice.
"Just trust me! Maintain your speed, we can make it."
The rest of the group were listening to your comms on standby. Everyone was silent, listening in with their gear on. Hangman was throwing a ball up and down in his hand and Phoenix was listening in carefully while Cayote and Payback sat looking out the window.
Hangman shook his head, already aggravating Phoenix.
"He's too slow."
"He's trying to get to the target, Hangman." Phoenix spat.
"It doesn't matter. He's dead if he doesn't get there on time."
"Yeah and he's dead if he crashes and burns." She retorted.
Hangman turned to Phoenix sharply, "Do you not think it's weird? Rooster and Locket's relationship?"
"No. Shut up and listen."
"Rooster, we're 30 seconds behind schedule!" You shouted through your comms at him.
"We'll get there, Locket!"
"Behind schedule! We're dead if we're late."
"We'll get there. Do not increase speed."
The group heard you grunt in frustration. Hangman smirked at Phoenix and she rolled her eyes.
"They don't get along, it's not anything more." Phoenix defended.
He shook his head, "I can tell there's something else going on."
"Rooster, I swear to God if you make us fail this-"
"I've got it, Mitchell! Stay on track, we are not increasing speed!"
"Mitchell?" Hangman repeated, looking to Cayote and Payback who's ears perked up at the name.
"As in Pete Mitchell?" Payback questioned.
Hangman stood up and walked to the wall across from them with an array of photos from different graduating years at Top Gun.
He spotted Maverick first. And then noticed Goose behind him.
"Guys, come look at this." He waved his hand.
Cayote and Payback walked over to the picture Hangman pointed to.
"Oh shit." They said in union.
"What?" Phoenix piped up from behind them, giving up with the comms.
She walked to the group of guys, holding her tactical vest and looking down at the picture. Hangman pointed to the photo and then the names of everyone.
"Lieutenant Pete Maverick Mitchell. And Nick fucking Bradshaw. Goose." Hangman spelled it out.
"Locket wasn't lying when she said their Dad's used to fly together. Her Dad is Maverick."

part two - coming soon!
after graduating top gun, the cold, hard truth hit you: you were bored. you were stationed somewhere in nevada, and nothing had come in for you, you had no excuse to go hop in a multi million dollar fighter pilot and go kick some ass. instead, you spent your days at the base, bored, and your nights at the nearby bar. and on this fine evening, you headed down to the nearby bar, sadly dubbed “middle o’ nowhere”. you didn’t bother to change out of your basic uniform, some straight leg khakis, a crisp white shirt, and you threw your flight jacket on for good measure, your call sign adorned on it, it read: dynamo. (yes like donna and the dynamos, i know what im doing w this !)
another sad truth, was that you missed your two best friends, rosie and tanya, who were off stationed in the middle of the pacific. god, you missed them. you were supposed to meet up with them in greece soon, but soon seemed so, so far away from today. so, here you were, walking into the middle o’ nowhere, ready to down a few drinks and wallow in your own lonesomeness. or, so you thought. you’d spend your last day before being shipped off to california drowning in vodka, or whatever you could get your hands on.
lost in your thoughts, you were suddenly snapped out of them when you ran into a stranger, knocking you back slightly, but not hard enough to send you falling. he instantly reached out and grabbed your forearm to steady you, as he starting spewing apologies, apologizing that he hadn’t been looking where he was going. you finally looked up at him, and were met by piercing blue eyes, and you froze as you studied his face. he was easy on the eyes, that was for sure. his aviator glasses gave him some boyish charm, and his hair was parted to the side and slicked back, giving him a clean look. you suddenly remembered to respond when he asked if you were okay. “yeah, it’s okay, don’t worry about it,” you said cooly, but the blonde refused your apology. “captain l/n, i’m so so sorry, is there anything i can do to make it up to you,” he said again, and you wondered how you’d never seen this guy before. maybe you’re time in the middle of nowhere wouldn’t have been so bad if you had actually looked around at your colleagues.
“yeah, lt. floyd, you can buy me a drink,” you said smugly, catching him by surprise as he realized you’d read his name tag, and by the fact that you, one of the most reserved people in the nevada station he’d ever met, actually wanted him, a lowly lt. to buy you a drink. he’d never even seen you talk to anyone unless it was business related, and despite the fact of being three doors down from your room for the past year, he’d never even seen anyone go in or out of it besides you. “oh-okay!” bob said, a little dumbfounded which made you chuckle as you led him to the bar.
a few drinks in, you had explained to bob how you had plans to go to greece with your friends, how you loved to play the guitar, which led to bob telling you you could have his after he gave up on trying to were. you made sure to leave out how you were leaving the next morning for california, slightly hoping maybe he’d make a move tonight. the truth was, bob had fallen under your spell. he had always thought you were gorgeous, and actually being able to talk to you just showed him how much of a great person you were. it didn’t help that you managed to look so damn fine in your plain white t-shirt and khakis. and for the first time in a while, bob actually had some confidence that maybe, just maybe, he had a chance with you.
with waterloo by abba playing in the background, you began humming along, smiling as you listened to it. to say you were a big abba fan was an understatement, and who knows, maybe someday you’d face your waterloo. right now, bob was pretty sure he was facing his right now.
waterloo, knowing my fate is to be with you
it was hard to resist him, and your loneliness wasn’t helping how the more you kept looking at him, the more you realized how absolutely gorgeous bob was. he seemed sweet and nerdy at first, but you could only imagined how ripped he was under his khaki uniform. was it bad you were already fantasizing about you begging for him to ruin you? probably. did you care? no.
bob, on the other hand, hated how fast he was falling for you in the moment. poor bob, he was just a hopeless romantic searching for love, and you, well, you were searching for a night you didn’t have to spend by yourself. as the two of you walked back to your quarters, bob suddenly asked you a question out of the middle of nowhere. “could you maybe, i dont know, move your bag to your other shoulder?” he inquired, and you gave him a puzzled look. “weird, but okay?” you responded, shifting your bag to your other shoulder. “sorry, i just, makes it easier for our hands to brush up against each other, and i might, spontaneously take your hand or something like that,” bob spoke, earning a laugh out of you. “or you could just ask to hold it,” you said, and he gave you a sheepish look. “that was my backup plan,” he said as he took your hand, as the two of you fell into a comfortable silence as you approached your quarters.
“what if i spontaneously invited you in,” bob said quietly.
“i’d have to accept,” you responded, and bob felt his face flush slightly, as he fiddled with the keys, before pushing open the door.
you didn’t even give him a second to breathe, you were quick to push him against the wall right outside the door, as you attached your lips to him, urgency and need poured into his lips as you kissed him. he was quick to attach a hand to your waist, pushing the door closed with his other, as he internally freaked out that you were actually kissing him. and he hoped, just hoped, that maybe, you’d actually talk to him after tonight.
when he woke up the next morning, he wasn’t surprised to find his bed empty, your scent still lingering on his pillow. he groaned as he stretched his back slightly, wincing as he felt the scratch marks you’d left on his back, and a wave of sadness fell over bob as he realized you hadn’t wanted anything more then a one night stand. (guys this is so painful to write i love bob i dont want to hurt i apologize)
dear bob, in our fleeting time together, i've learned about your dreams, and your ambitions. also that you can get it, but that's besides the point. sorry for leaving you here but, you'll know where to find me, if you want to.
best, dynamo
—
your superior had informed you that you were no longer needed in california, and your leave had been approved by your superior, and you instantly phoned rosie and tanya to tell them the good news. youd arrive a week or two earlier and them, but you didn’t care, you were off! you soon cursed your arrival, as you fifteen seconds late before your boat took off, heading to one of the smaller islands you were planning to stay on. “shit!” you exclaimed, annoyed as you then realized your trunk was open, half your clothes you’d pack littering the dock.
“it’s a whole wardrobe out here, seems to be my lucky day,” a voice came from behind you, causing you to turn around, as you came to face a tall, hot, blonde stranger. not another one. it didnt help that he was in a tight, navy shirt and some swim trunks. his green eyes sparkled as he looked down at you, holding a bikini top of yours up to his chest. “i think this’ll do just fine,” he said, causing you to laugh, as he helped you get your clothes together, as you shoved them back into your bag. “where are you headed to, gorgeous,” he spoke smoothly, shooting you a blinding smile that made you weak in the knees. “the little island, but my boat just left, about five minutes ago,” you said, pouting slightly. “well, no need to fear, i happen to own this fine boat to our left,” the blonde stranger spoke, and you smiled.
“cptn y/n l/n, but a lot of people call me by my call sign, dynamo,” you said, holding out your hand for the blonde stranger to shake. “lt. jake seresin, hangman,” he said, taking your hand, but instead of shaking it, he brought your hand up to his lips, kissing it lightly, sending a wink your way. “i wouldn’t mind bringing you to the little island,” he said, and you smiled at him as he helped you bring your luggage onto the boat. after you’d situated yourself and hangman had gotten the boat coming, he waltzed on over to you, as he sat down next to you, captain’s hat on his head, and toothpick in between his teeth, as you felt his thigh press against yours. “you know, it just seems so sad, how heartbroken i’ll be after you leave my boat, my lonely, sad heart, may collapse!” he said dramatically, putting his hands on his chest, before slowly putting one hand on your thigh, causing you to roll your eyes. you stood up, putting a hand on your hip. “so, you’re one of those, are you?” you said, rolling your eyes. “there are two kinds of seducers, first, the one that doesn’t actually like women so he wants to assert his power over them, but the second, and far more dangerous, is the guy who genuinely falls in love every evening, only to fall out if again the next morning,” you spoke as you paraded around his boat. you could tell he wanted to sleep with you desperately, based off how touchy he’d been as soon as you’d met him, but he also seemed to have more depth to his character, but you didn’t know if you could do another bob situation, as he still lingered in your thoughts ever since the other night.
“give me a chance, dynamo, let me show you,” he spoke, and you gave him a pointed look.
it’s only natural, but why did it have to be me
“nights can be empty and nights can be cold, so you were looking, for someone to hold,” hangman sung out as he spun you around, the two of you dancing around on his boat, music blasting in the background.
but baby, believe me, it’s better, to forget me
little did you know that standing at the same dock you had been standing at less than an hour ago, stood bob, luggage in tow, sadness in his eyes as he watched the two of you dancing on hangman’s boat, as you danced in the pink hues of the sunset behind the two of you, as you sailed off.
men are the toys in the game that you play
when you get tired, you throw them away
that’s only natural,,,
“but why did it have to be me,” bob said softly, before turning around and walking away, defeated.
as hangman dropped you off at the dock to the little island, he handed you your luggage. “i’ll be back in about two weeks,” he said, grin on his face as he studied your face, taking in your features as he watched you. “i got a boat race, but don’t worry dynamo, i won’t be gone for too long,” he said with a wink, to which you rolled your eyes at. “goodbye, hangman,” you replied, as you left him there at the dock, his eyes never leaving your figure until he couldn’t see you anymore. he’d come back for you, he swore to himself he would.
falling in love with a woman like you
happens so quickly, there’s nothing to do
that’s only natural, but why did it have to be me?
you managed to lug your bags up the many steps on the island, until you finally came across the run down hotel that you recognized that you were supposed to stay at. you dropped your bags off at the front, telling yourself you’d search for someone later, too taken by the beauty of the place. a crash of thunder shook the building, as you began to hear something struggling from the flight of stairs nearby you, and you quickly ran down to see a horse trapped in, and the rain started pouring down on the both of you. suddenly, the roof of the side building you had wandered into collapses before the horse, and you quickly ran out to go find anyone to help. everyone seemed to have fled the area, taking refuge from the storm, but you refused to give up, screaming out for someone to come help you. you ran down a path, until you saw a motorcycle come up on the path. you waved your hands out, trying to make out the figure in the rain as the stranger came to a stop. upon seeing his face, you almost forgot that rain was pounding down onto the both of you. his brown hair stuck to his forehead, tousled and flattened down by the rain, his deep, brown eyes looked back at yours as you both froze for a second, the instant attraction striking you first. it didn’t help that his mustache only added to the fact that he looked like a greek god. his white shirt was soaked, leaving little to the eye.
“there’s a horse,” you finally choked out, half shouting. “it’s trapped, please, please help me free it,” you spoke, clasping your hands together in hope that he would. he instantly nodded and motioned for you to get on the back of his motorcycle as you directed him through the rain. the two of you rushed into the building, and you couldn’t help but notice the electricity you felt when his hand made contact with your waist as he helped you over the debris from the roof. the horse reared up on its hind legs, neighing as the two of you slowly approached it. you continued your slow approach, before you were able to calm it down, as it let you stroke its face until it calmed down, and the rain seemed to stop as you did so. the brunette looked over at you and smiled, and you returned it. “you wanna, go for a walk maybe?” he asked, and you nodded your head, smiling.
“we’ve walked this whole island, and i’ve yet to see where you live,” you stated, as you and lt. bradley bradshaw, callsign: rooster. conversation flowed easily between the two of you, as if you both had been friends for years, and were just now reuniting. something about him just touched your soul, he was kind, and he was gentle.
andante, andante,
go slowly with me now
“in a shackle on a hill,” rooster replied, as the two of you wove through the trees as you made your way up the island. “and what the hell are you doing there?” you asked, and he stopped for a minute. “running away, i guess, back home, everything was lined up for me. my whole life was mapped out. i wanted to take a break before i signed up to it.” he replied, and you tilted your head to the side as you took in every single one of his words, “how ‘bout you,” he responded, and you shrugged. “i have absolutely nothing mapped out, i guess i chose to come here to just get away from the uniform life i’ve been living. i was stationed in nevada, but never got called for anything so, i got approved leave to come out here, see if there’s anything for me on this island. enough talking, let’s ride.”
andante, andante,
and let the feeling go
it was safe to say riding on the back of rooster’s motorcycle, hands around his middle, leaning into his shoulder as the scenery of the little island flew by the two of you had reached your top five favorite things of all time. the two of you rode peacefully in the warm summer air, as you soon reached the town square, where numerous shops were set up, and as you hopped off his bike, you heard music coming from a nearby tavern. “let’s go!” you exclaimed, pulling rooster along with you, who only smiled, entranced by you. some guy was singing a song called kisses of fire, and as rooster brought you both your beers, you put your hand down on the table, “god i love this place, i’m never leaving!” you exclaimed and rooster chuckled. “your mom wouldn’t miss you?” he asked and you shook your head. “not that kinda mom,” you replied and he quickly apologized, but you brushed it off. “not a big deal, we’ve just never been too close, you know,” you replied, and he nodded. “i wish i could stay here forever,” he said, muttering with you under his breath, but you didn’t catch it.
“when do you go back?” you inquired, and a tug at your heart strings gave way to a wave of sadness to slowly creep up and over you. “to your mapped out life,” you added, trying to lighten the mood. “i have a week,” he said, a smile breaking out on his face at your attempt at a joke. he then knew he needed to tell you, so he spoke up, “look, there’s something, about what’s waiting for me back home,” he said, but you were quickly distracted as the band that was playing ended, and you got up to cheer for them. even though you had joined the navy and had become one of the best pilots of your generation, you still had a passion for music and performing, which was showing through right now.
you turned back to the woman working at the bar, “excuse me, are you the owner?” you asked. “my son is the owner. bought this bar because no other place would let him play,” she said with a laugh, before her son sat down at your table. “hello, how may i help you?” he asked with a thick greek accent. “well firstly, you’re all awesome!” you exclaimed, and the man smiled. “and second, i’d be honored to perform here with my makeshift group, my friends arriving in a few days, and we’ve always dreamed of being able to perform together,” you said. “you have a good voice?” the son asked, and rooster, nodded, “like sugarcane,” he said, and you gave him a glare, before smiling at him as the man pulled you away from your chair, and rooster shot you a good luck thumbs up as the man handed you your microphone. boy, were you in over your head for this man.
the next few days seemed to go by in a flash, the closer you became with rooster, the more and more you realized that you wanted to stay on this island for good. and with him. you wanted to stay with him on this island for as long as you could, live in paradise with the man who seemed to have capture your attention so quickly. and you knew that when he finally kissed you outside the shack you had grown to love to spend time in with him, that you had never wanted anything more than for him to stay on this island with you. and when he kissed you breathless every time, you knew even more in your heart that there was no one else who’d ever captured your heart the way bradley bradshaw had.
and as you skipped through the orange trees to pick fresh oranges and bring them back before bradley woke up from his sleep, you hummed to yourself, still unbelieving that your current reality was your current reality. everything felt so right, and you had never felt more alive and in love than you had right then and there. nothing could compromise the moment, or so you thought. it wasn’t until you were searching for a knife to cut open your orange, that you stumbled upon a brown leather notebook, with a photo sticking out of it. well, curiosity killed the cat, and it crushed your heart as you pulled out the photo, only to see an engagement photo of the man you’d fallen in love with, with a gorgeous woman, with a sparkling ring on your finger. coincidentally, rooster had walked over to you, a lovesick smile on his face, until he saw the photo you had on your hands, and he knew he had fucked up. it was just, every time he had tried to tell you you kept on getting distracted by the wonders of the island.
you looked at him, pain in your eyes as he tried to explain himself, but you just ran. you ran far away from him, running back to town, but bradley refused to stop running after you. “y/n! please, please just hear me out, as he caught you on the stairs in the hotel you were originally supposed to be staying at. “fine! fine bradshaw, answer three questions for me, are you engaged to that beautiful woman?” you asked, and he nodded, “yes,” he said, as he watched your body rack with a sob clawing up your throat. “and did you tell me about it?” “no,” bradley spoke, his voice breaking and tears flooding his eyes as he watched you.
“and do you seriously think i could ever forgive you?” you asked, your last question ringing out, before you turned around, continuing up the stairs. “y/n, please!” bradley called out, begging you to turn around and let him say more. “that’s enough listening, go!” you screamed at him, before running up the rest of the stairs, sobs racking your body as you made it to the room you had yet to spend more than thirty minutes in. you slammed the door behind you, before collapsing into the bed, your heart burning with pain as you couldn’t stop the picture of bradley and his fiance from popping back into your mind.
breaking up is never easy i know, but i have to go
knowing me, knowing you is the best i can do.
the next day, you had never been more thankful for your friends, rosie and tanya, for finally showing up. but as happy as you were to see them, your slightly puffy and red eyes gave you away. they were quick to console you as you explained what had happened over the past two weeks, unaware that a familiar boat was slowly coming into view. and on that boat, stood jake seresin, praying to any god that you were still on this island you had been so set on. luckily your mind was quickly taken off bradley bradshaw as the bar owner was ecstatic that your friends had finally showed up, as he quickly got you dancing, singing, and smiling again. and as jake heard your voice, he rushed into the bar, breathless as he saw you up there singing. and when you two locked eyes, he really hoped you didn’t notice just how much he’d missed you.
mamma mia, now i really know
my, my, i should not’ve let you go
it didn’t take long for you to fall back into the arms of jake seresin, and while your mind was still very preoccupied with the thoughts of bradley, and when you did have to catch his name from slipping out of your mouth as jake had you pinned down on his bed, headboard knocking against the back of his boat, you still knew that the guy above you loved you, not the same, but almost on the same level that bradley had.
and bradley, he had come back for you. he’d called off his engagement and came back to the little island as soon as he could, only to hear from your friends that you were off with the sex icon of the seas, and that he could never compare to him.
but your quick time with jake soon ended as he ended up getting called back to a station in the atlantic, needed for a mission. you couldn’t say you weren’t relieved, as your heart was still broken from bradley. but you were still greatful jake had taken your mind off him for a while. your friends left the island soon after, promising to write to you and to visit you once a year, when you told them you were staying on the island, helping out the mother of the bar owner with her hotel. but it seemed you wouldn’t be staying alone, as not soon after your friends had left, did you throw up, and then realization struck your face.
you were pregnant.
mamma mia!

“you all are the best of the best, or at least the best we could get ahold of,” cyclone stated, before introducing maverick to the pilots, and maverick surveyed the pilots that were considered the best. he recognized almost all the faces from the earlier debriefing about who all he’d be training, but his eyes fell to an empty desk, and then it hit him. “where’s dynamo? has captain l/n not arrived yet?” he asked in confusion, swearing he had seen your face on the screen of pilots they were asking to come back to top gun. “sorry maverick, she said she was quote preoccupied with family issues unquote,” cyclone replied, and maverick nodded, before continuing
however, three heads perked up at the mention of your name, and memories flooded back over three pilots, suddenly unable to focus on what maverick was saying. rooster, hangman, and bob all began reliving their memories with you, and cursed themselves for letting you go.
and maybe the other reason why rooster went after maverick was because he knew you weren’t waiting for him back at top gun, and he had nothing more to lose.

Chapter Four
Mrs. Milligan arrived shortly after we left the ballroom and so we had to cut our tour short, much to Ruby’s disappointment, since she was really looking forward to showing me the upstairs, but I promised her that we would continue the tour later once they were finished and that she and Charlie could show me what they learned in class if they wanted to, seemed to lift her spirits again.
Frances showed me to my room while the children were starting their music lesson. She led me up a flight of stairs, where a family portrait hung from the walls.
The woman, I assumed, was Mrs. Shelby.
Adorned in a mahogany dress that complimented her figure perfectly, she stood, facing the painter and her lips, which matched the colour of the dress, looked as though she were holding back a smile. Her blonde hair was curled and brushed against her blushing cheeks.
On her lap, Charlie sat, dressed in a mustard-coloured shirt with buttons, blue stockings and a pair of black dress shoes. His head was almost dead centre, his hair was much darker back then, I noted, though his eyes still held that mischievous sparkle, and he was facing away from the painter, instead, looking up at his father.
Several things told me that he was the main focus of this painting, the first being that he was framed by the bodies and inclined heads of his parents. Secondly, the light, possibly coming from a lamp in the room where this work of art was created, hit his face fully, unlike the part-shaded faces of his parents. Thirdly, his posture unified the composition as he looked towards, though probably not quite at, his father from his mother’s breast.
Yes, Charlie was the centre of their universe, that much was clear.
Thomas hadn’t changed much, I noticed. He still wore that same, thoughtful expression, as though his mind was elsewhere, no matter how hard he tried to keep himself tied down to Earth.
There was another painting as well that caught my eye.
Her expression was far from warm, unlike in the last portrait, in fact it could be described as judgemental, like she could see through me and my confident facade; but there was something, almost like devotion, in her eyes as well. She was bathed in a halo of white light, making her appear almost angelic and for some reason, I found it difficult to tear myself away from her gaze.
Walking down these halls, I thought, was like entering a museum.
Everything was pristine and perfect and elegant, and my room, which was not far from the staircase, was no exception. The windows were huge and framed in fine, elaborate frames and they looked out over the sweeping countryside.
Where else am I going to get a view like this? I thought.
The sound of a car door slamming shut prevented me from speaking my thoughts out loud. In the corner of my eye, I saw a silver car pulling up in the driveway and a pretty brunette opened the passenger side door and stepped out of it, a smile spreading on her face as Thomas approached her, placed a hand on her lower back and led her away to the stables.
“That’s Miss Carleton,” said Frances, nodding to the woman and then leaned in to add. “Comes around here every week to train Mister Shelby’s racing horses. She’s quite wealthy, they say. Owns her own prize-winning stud.”
“Apparently she stays overnight as well?” Frances’ eyes became saucers, widening in horror at the question I just asked.
“Ah, I suppose Master Charlie and Miss Ruby already told you about Miss Carleton,” she sighed while shaking her head, “they’re too smart for their own good, the pair of them. I’m warning you now, Miss, they will keep you on your toes until it feels like you’re dancing on a tightrope keeping them out of trouble.”
“Don’t worry. This isn’t my first time as a governess. Besides, I have five younger cousins at home. I’m used to it.”
“Good. Having an extra pair of hands will be a blessing.”
Laughing, I turned away from the window and my eyes landed on a wardrobe. It was dark oak, or at least that’s what it looked like to me, since I had seen similar ones in my friends’ houses. My hands gripped the handles and I gently swung open the door, expecting it to be empty, but it was full of clothes.
Dresses. Expensive ones, too.
“Those are the clothes you will wear while you stay with us,” said Frances. Shock was written on my face, I could see it in the mirror. It sounded almost too good to be true, these nice clothes, a spacious bedroom, it was more than someone like me, of my station, could possibly ask for. “Mister Shelby insisted that you have something new, as a way to symbolise your new life here. Speaking of which, he requests that you join him and the children for dinner this evening, shall I tell him you will be attending?”
All I could do was nod in response.
“Very well then. I will send someone up in a moment to collect your old clothes, in case you would like to have them washed. There’s a basket just there.” She nodded toward a wicker basket in front of the wardrobe. “In the meantime, I’ll give you some time to settle in, and if you need anything else, give me a shout.”
“Of course.” I replied, “Thank you, Frances.”
With a polite bow of her head, she scuttled toward the door and the second it clicked closed behind her, I exhaled. Now I was alone, standing in the middle of the room, the light of the window shining in. I stepped over to it, taking a moment to admire the view.
Never had I seen such beauty, and I could only stare in amazement. I saw my suitcase against the wall. Having some free time on my hands meant that I could start unpacking my belongings.
Unzipping the suitcase on the floor, I kneeled in front of it.
First, I took out my Bible, the one my mother bought for me, my name written in pen on the front cover, and set it on the floor beside me. My aunt had also packed a new diary for me. At home, we were encouraged to keep a diary, as a way of reflecting on ourselves, but also as a safe space to sort through our thoughts and feelings. It was small, with a black cover and a gold bookmark. I set it on top of the Bible.
The portrait of my family went beside them. I wouldn’t be seeing them anytime soon.
Next, I began to sort through the layers of clothes Eliza had packed. The clothes I regularly wore — loose dresses, frilly, puffed blouses and fluted skirts — were more suited for housework, and some of the nicer ones were reserved for Sundays, picnics or house parties, which we were sometimes allowed to go to if they were held by close friends or neighbours.
Keeping them all folded, I set them nicely into another pile. The few things I had managed to bring with me didn’t add up to much, but they were the last few things tying me to my life back home, my family, and my faith.
God has always been by my side during the toughest times in my life, showed me where to go when I was lost and unable to find my way, and it’s His will that brought me here to these children and to help them prepare for the world outside these doors.
Standing up, I started putting things away in drawers and wardrobes and put my Bible on my bedside table. I didn’t pin Thomas as the ‘Church going’ type, but perhaps on Sundays, I would be allowed a few hours in the morning to pray before tending to my other duties.
With my suitcase now empty and the old clothes in a small brown basket, I settled into my chair by the window with a sigh and a soft smile. The warm sunshine and gentle breeze from outside served as the perfect companion. A sense of peacefulness washed over me.
I could definitely get used to this.
I uncapped my pen, and opened my diary, turning to the first blank page.
Saturday, May 10th 1930
Gosh, where do I begin? One minute I am in the nursery, playing with my cousins and now I am sitting in my room in a breathtaking mansion that looks like it’s been standing here for hundreds of years! If you had told me I was living in a museum, you wouldn’t be that far off. And you should see the new clothes in my wardrobe! They are the kinds of dresses I would see all the other girls wearing to garden parties and evening soirees. Don’t get me wrong, I am incredibly thankful that my employer has gifted me with such lavish dresses, but I would have been just as content wearing my old clothes — though I suppose I might donate those once we get them washed.
I was deep in my thoughts when there was a soft knock on my bedroom door. I lifted the pen from the paper, laid my diary on top of my Bible, sat down on the mattress, and then told whoever was on the other side of the door that they could come in. The door clicked open to reveal Frances standing in the doorway.
“Pardon the interruption, Miss,” she began and then glanced down at Charlie who stood next to her, clutching his violin and bow in his hands and smiling rather proudly. “Master Charlie said he wishes to show you what he learned today.”
The boy nodded eagerly and judging from the wide smile on his face, I could tell he was impatient to regale us with some music, so I fixed my position on the bed and then beckoned them both to come in with one hand.
“Well, then, there is no time to waste!” I said, enthusiasm in my voice, and watched as he prepared himself to play. He knew exactly how to hold the instrument and where to put his delicate fingers, and when he dragged the bow across the strings…. Let’s just say it wasn’t the most pleasant sound, but he just looked so happy and proud of himself, that neither Frances nor I had the heart to discourage or criticise him.
The piece only lasted a few minutes and when he finished, we both clapped and he took a deep bow. He set the bow and violin to the side and then sat next to me on the bed, catching his breath. “It’s not as good as when Miss Milligan plays it, she makes it sound like fairy music.”
“Practise makes perfect,” I said, hoping I sounded encouraging and proud of what he did manage to learn. “The more you keep working on it, the better you will become, and who knows? In a few years, you’ll be standing up there on a stage and people will be cheering your name.”
“Really?” he asked, excited.
“Really,” I answered. I glanced toward the doorway again when I heard someone else knocking. Frances opened it and Ruby came bursting in. She plopped herself on my lap, which took me by surprise, but I held onto her so she wouldn’t slip. “Hello, there, Miss Ruby.”
“Jessie! I learned a new song today, too!” she exclaimed, practically jumping up and down because of how excited she was, “and I can play it all by myself!”
“Tell you what,” I said, adjusting her body so that she was seated more comfortably, “perhaps after dinner, you can show me what you can play. In the meantime, I think I was promised a continuation of our tour.”
We still had a bit of time left on our hands before we would need to start getting ready for dinner, so I didn’t see the harm of continuing to explore the estate. Ruby slid off my lap and then dashed out the door and Charlie followed after her, leaving his violin behind.
“I’ll take that in,” Frances volunteered, “you’d better go.”
Thanking her, I called after them. “Wait for me!”
“Hurry up!” Charlie yelled back. “You’re like a turtle!”
“Slow and steady wins the race,” I tutted and they started running, their shoes slapping against the hardwood floor, as I allowed them to lead me through the halls, show me all their favourite rooms, including a playroom, filled with toys and books, and even a rocking horse.
“Wanna try it?” asked Charlie and I laughed.
“Hm, I’m not as small as I used to be. I might not fit.”
“Please?” Ruby begged, her brown eyes twinkling in the light coming from the window. Charlie aided her in her pleas, making saying ‘no’ to them even more impossible. I relented, sighing and shaking my head, a small smile tugging at my lips.
Satisfied, they clapped their hands as I approached the horse, one leg on both sides and I sat, being careful not to put too much weight on the wooden back, so as not to damage what might have been a priceless treasure.
“Giddy up!” Charlie cheered and I did my best imitation of a horse, making it rock a few more times, before I got off and then fixed up my skirts. I couldn’t help but smile. I had a feeling that I was going to have a great deal of fun playing games with the children, and it was impossible not to feel excited at the prospect. We could do anything, and I had a feeling that no matter what it was, it would be an absolute blast having them as my opponent.
“Wanna play another game?” asked Ruby, taking my hands in hers.
“How could I pass up on the offer?” I said. “What shall we play?”
“Tag!” she said, tapping my shoulder. “You’re it!”
Without any further warning, I suddenly grabbed her by the waist and swung her up into the air, making her squeal and giggle in surprise and when I put her down again, Charlie took her hand, made a run for it, and I chased them around the house, the three of us laughing and shrieking as we ran and tackled and dodged each other.
Seeing the kids so full of laughter and playfulness, I could feel the stress and anxiety of the day melt away and I felt a wave of relaxation and peace wash over me. What better way to spend the time than playing and laughing like this?

Ok Jared fans here's a little fluffy stuff, at work tonight so they are just coming at me.
Tumblr media
"Daddy's Promise"
Jared Padalecki paced back and forth in his trailer, anxiety gnawing at him. He had been away for weeks, filming on the other side of the country, and today was supposed to be his daughter's first birthday. He'd promised Y/N he'd be there, but the flights were all full, and his scenes ran late. Panic set in as he realized he might not make it back in time.
Frantically, he called Y/N and pressed the "FaceTime" button. His heart sank when he saw her tear-stained face. "Hey, sweetheart, I'm so sorry. I'm trying my best to get there," he said, his voice cracking with emotion.
Y/N sniffled and wiped her tears, "Jared, it's okay. I know you're trying. We'll celebrate when you get here."
Jared's eyes welled up as he looked at the photo of his daughter on the table. "I don't want to miss her first birthday," he said, his voice trembling.
Y/N's eyes softened. "We understand, Jared. Just know that we love you, and we'll be thinking of you." She panned the camera to show their daughter, a little princess in her pink party dress, surrounded by friends and family. "Look, she's having fun. We'll record everything for you."
As the party went on, Jared did his best to stay in the loop through FaceTime, watching his daughter excitedly open gifts and blow out her first birthday candle. He couldn't help but smile through the tears as he saw her smiling and laughing.
Then, unexpectedly, the door to his trailer swung open. In walked Jensen Ackles, grinning from ear to ear. "Well, well, well, look who's missing the party," he said playfully.
Jared's eyes widened, and he could hardly believe his eyes. Jensen was there, in person, despite his busy schedule. The two friends shared a quick, heartfelt hug before they rushed to the car that would take them to the airport.
Minutes felt like hours as they raced against time, but Jared had a spark of hope. "We can make it, Jensen. We'll make it in time."
As they arrived at the party, Jared and Jensen burst through the door, creating a momentary hush among the guests. Y/N's eyes filled with tears, and she rushed to Jared, embracing him tightly. "You made it!"
Their daughter reached out her tiny arms, and Jared scooped her up, tears streaming down his face. "I promised I'd be here, sweetheart. Daddy always keeps his promises."
The party roared back to life, laughter and celebration filling the room. And amidst the chaos, Jared Padalecki held his daughter close, knowing that some promises were too important to break.
