Chapter 29 is published and with that, volume 3 is complete. It's the longest chapter I wrote in awhile and I'm proud of that. Sure the 1st part should have been in ch 28 but whatever. Enjoy the chapter, I'll post a lil bit on my process in a few days.

One of my fav things about star wars is that's its so fucking huge that u physically cannot know all of it so u just kinda like pick a section amd become obsessed. Like me with the Chiss. Like i have seen only one other fandom come even close to this amd that's Marvel. I have no idea y. And we all still bond over the skywalker saga (not the ones that shan't be spoken). And its like we all know a bit of each other sections. Like clone fans know a bit about ahsoka. Ahsoka fans know a bit about the Rebels fans. Rebels fans know about Thrawn. Thrawn fans know some deep shit about Padmes handmaiden and wild space yokels. And it pretty much goes on forever and i find that very cool.

Eddie, posting a video: Tiktok is not ready to let go of the fact that you apparently stole a car and quite frankly, neither am I. So what do you have to say about it, Stevie.
Steve: first, I didn’t steal that car. Hopper did. I just drove it and second, what are you talking about? We stole a car together
Eddie:
Eddie: oh yeah.
Eddie: that was not the craziest thing we did that day

the true potential of cross guild is that no matter what, buggy can Only fail upwards. like i genuinely do think that mihawk and crocodile will come to begrudgingly respect buggy for inexplicably revitalizing their dreams and aspirations as actual pirates vs treating everything as business and never trusting anyone, but consider: Cross Guild just keeps expanding after the fact
Gecko Moriah and Perona, after their encounter with the Blackbeard Pirates, salvage what they can of their crew and join up
Doflamingo is broken out of Impel Down alongside Bon Clay in a second prison break scandal and they both decide to join up
Rayleigh, wanting protection for Amazon Lily and for Boa to gain more allies, gets in touch with Buggy after all this time to join his crew ala Jinbe joining Luffy
Neo MADS, in need of resources and manpower after their scuffle with the Big Mom Pirates, contact and eventually conglomerate into Cross Guild, meaning Caesar Clown, Judge and the Vinsmoke siblings all join as well
Vivi meeting up with them alongside Wapol after escaping Mary Geoise and joining them, at least until she can find the Straw Hats
Buggy, through no reason other than being gods favorite chewtoy, straight up having a fully decked out Yonko crew of former warlords, legends and everything in between where no one takes him truly seriously but at the very least respect his authority as Yonko to not kill him. but oh boy do they keep him guessing. the only reason it doesnt fall apart is because they're all united in dunking on this silly little clown that, for the funniest reasons ever, is luckier than the devil himself to not be killed by them

there was NO need for THE roronoa zoro (pirate hunter, would-be best swordsman in the world, certified drama queen) to serve this hard, but he did
what a dramatic fuck i love him

One thing I love about the Hatchetfield Cycle is that, even though they are fun and camp and deeply moving, they do not have happy endings. In TGWDLM and NPMD it's a classic bait-and-switch, we think we're getting a sweet ending and then someone bursts into a song that makes you go "oh. They're evil now." And BF presumably ends in nuclear winter but we do see a moment when everyone is reunited and preparing to escape the mall.
There's also levels of self-awareness and breaking the third wall. TGWDLM is obvious, but BF has General McNamara chastising the audience for being obsessed with their phones in "Monsters and Men" as well as Tom and Lex moving boxes for a scene change. NPMD has the least instances of this, and less obvious, but in "Hatchet Town" the crowd sings about how singing is simply creating opportunities for their children to get attacked, but they keep singing.
This is incredibly Brechtian and all three musicals are in the tradition of epic theatre (epic being the school of theatrical theory and not in reference to scale). A hallmark of epic theatre is denying the audience catharsis. The end of the play is not supposed to be tied up into a neatly packaged message, and you're not supposed to get lost in the story of the play. You are supposed to remember yourself so that the commentary that is happening on stage (and there is always commentary, epic theatre is deeply political) and see how it pertains to your life, the world around you. I'd argue all of Starkid's major musicals have a political point and rarely is it as subtle as it is in NPMD. I can think of three songs right now that are explicitly about being American and American cultural hypocrisy.
They also look at government, and how government fails us (very Brechtian).
Utilizing the audience and the entire theatre is often funny, but it keeps the audience from getting complacent. One of the actors hands you his half-eaten apple, that's jarring. The world of the play isn't separate from your world as an audience.
It's easy to be taken with the lore of the universe (I have theories about the Black and White, let's talk) and how great the songs are, and it's easy to say that they're good. But like. They're not just good. They're absolutely incredible modern examples of epic theatre or the next stage of epic theatre (because they do give us moments of catharsis, they just don't close with it). I don't understand how colleges are not frothing for rights to perform these plays. I have a lot more thoughts but I just wanted to get that out. It makes sense since they're all theatre kids--even if they aren't thinking "Brecht Brech Brecht" the entire time, that cathartic denial and incorporation of the audience are absolutely purposeful and not just because it's fun. These shows are amazing.

I would sacrifice my firstborn child for the chance to read a crossover fic in which Lieutenant/Admiral Miles Naismith/Vorkosigan and Grand Admiral Thrawn get into some sort of unhinged military rivalry and do a kind of speedrun of who will get court marshalled first and/or harder while achieving the long-term strategic goals of whatever entity they're working for in this AU.
Like Reichenbach Falls but with space military geniuses.

we havent caught up in a spell, havent we?
hello readers, if any remain. i know i havent updated or written in awhile. after the accident i just couldnt focus on it and to be honest iwas not in a great place mentally. yesterday i actually started thinking about writing and it was the 1st time since the accident i got that feeling. i even got some ideas for when i actually return for real. fear not, as i still remember what my plot points were. (even though a lot of my drafts and ideas i had jotted down on paper in my cabinet at work were thrown away when coworkers decided to clean my classroom while i was gone. wish i knew why they felt the need to touch my personal things but whatever.) i do however want to revisit the last few chapters to just refresh where i was and avoid possibly repeating myself. i may also make an adjustment to the chronology. i think the last chapter i wrote was a joy chapter and i think i want to add stuff before that. ill know for sure when i start actually writing. and when i do officially start drafting again i will let you all know.

okay confession time ive been reading too much of twilight-critical fanfiction and it just struck me how utterly disconnected Bella is. Like, her mother's off doing her own thing, in her own world, Charlie Swan, as much as i like his character, he feels like a non entity to me, and her friends in forks are literally loose threads brushed off. it's like her shield (or shield-adjacent) ability has been affecting her even before she was a vampire

Chloe (after the events in Beast Venture): Uh? That was a weird dream... *yawns and stretches* Aurora (sleeping beside her): Hiya, Chloe! Chloe (visibly shocked): Ah! Why are we in the same bed?! In th-the dream, we were at the colliseum and everyone was cheering and- Aurora: Oh! We had the same dream. Chloe: Yes, but that doesn't explain why you're here! Aurora: *giggles* Well, we had a sleepover and you were super motivated to become a great illusion master or something. Chloe: *visibly annoyed* BUT THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN ANYTHING!! Aurora: *shrugs* Well, you were sleeping so cutely that I- Chloe: *sighs* You crawled into bed next to me, huh? Was that when you knocked on the door in my dream? Aurora: Yeah, and you were such a mopey dopey. *giggles* You were such an emo. Chloe: Well, whatever. That dream made you a bit more assertive, huh? What with that... that moment we shared during the festival after... Aurora: Hey! Maybe we can still summon Clawz? Y'know, that beast from the dream. (Clawz walks into the room eating ice cream from a container) Chloe: *gasps* CLAWZ!? Clawz: *smirks* So... did you two? Aurora (ignoring the question): *giggles* Hey, it's good to see you so soon after all that trouble in the dream we've shared. Clawz: *scoops some ice cream and points it at Chloe's face* Eat up! If your energy gets too low, I may vanish again. You can summon me whenever you want, but there's only so much I can do unlike that dream where I had a true physical form. Chloe: I'm lactose-intolerant remember? Clawz: *eats the scoop of ice cream quickly* Eh, well you'll have to eat something. And not e- Aurora (interupts): Ah, yeah! So, let's go have some breakfast together.
This has been an explanation of how "Beast Venture" can tie into the lore of the new version of my series titled "Illusionary"
