Disassociation Culture is people telling you your dreams are unrealistic and thus your brain freaks out when a thing you thought unlikely is possible and actually happened (but I didn't need every adult in my life doubting my perceptions and my studies)

hi, i hope you're well today.
i watched your sketchbook tour video on yt (from like 2 days ago) and so, i wanted to try to ask for advice, if you want to give it ofcourse, no pressure to.
you see, i love sketces so much, there's just some special beuty about them. i really enjoy seeing artists' sketches, including yours, ofcourse. i love seeing them on tumblr & yt.
also, even though i'm 26, i'm a COMPLETE begginner at drawing. i'm struggeling with the basic boxes-in-correct-perspective things, drawing faceless heads and motionless torsos, and.. yea, that's it. i know practice is the only way to advance in drawing, but i can't bring myself to. i see artists like you filling your sketchbooks with characters you're passionate about and honestly that's all i've ever wanted to be able to do, but i literally don't have the ability to do so.
just to be clear, i'm not asking you how to motivate myself to draw. the thing is, even though people are telling me that maybe it's not meant to be and i should give up, some insane part of me refuses to let this dream go. my question to you, as someone who somehow got there, is: do you think it's doomed? do you think that me struggeling so much with the drawing itself AND the motivation, means i won't be able to do it? do you think if i'm not having fun with it now, than i'll never get to a point where it will?
it might sound dumb, but it's a thing i'm nervous about. and after seeing your sketchbook, filled with so much characters and stories that i could see are so dear to your heart and so fun for you to draw, i'd love to hear (read) youe 2 scents about it, if you're willing to share. again, no pressure to.
thanks in advance, though.
Hi there Anon!
I'mma be frank and honest here: "maybe it's not meant to be and you should give up" is the absolutely stupidest thing someone can say to you. What the hell?? Dear Anon, if you feel even the tiniest bit of "I want to draw" then you should draw. You don't have to be good at drawing to draw, that's what's great about it. Anyone can find something to draw with and something to draw on. And just draw. If the act of drawing scratches some itch for you, then that's all you need. It doesn't mean it has to be fun all the time, though. Sometimes I can't get part of the drawing right, or even the whole drawing! Sometimes I hate what I finished drawing. Sometimes I want to draw but nothing comes out. But the itch is still there, it doesn't go away completely. You say it's your dream, then you should follow it. Everyone starts somewhere, and it's never too late too start. It's never too late. When you're dead it's too late.
Tumblr media
If you don't feel the itch for drawing anymore, then you know it's time to move on to other things. And that's okay too, and it's not giving up. And don't let anyone else tell you that you should give up, if it is your passion.
In case you have sketchbook anxiety, don't think a sketchbook has to be one big art piece with each page something instagram worthy. I know it's become a thing where artists share their sketchbooks on social media and it's so Aesthetic™ that it's giving anxiety and pressure for everyone to have a sketchbook that pretty, but it really doesn't have to. You don't have to show it to anyone. Or you don't have to even have a sketchbook. Draw on random paper and put them in a folder. I did that for ages. The ones I use now aren't really sketchbooks either, but sketch pads with spirals. And those work the best for me. I have a few books but I haven't finished any of them.
If stiff figures is your issue, I suggest figure/life drawing as practice. Drawing tutorials about boxes and circles and proportions can only get you so far. Gather images of people in different poses. Dancing is really good for this. Sports too. And the less clothes the better. Draw what you see. Do it in 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5... Focus less on getting details right and more on the flow, the movement of the body. Tracing the image is lower effort and not as beneficial, but it still helps get the idea of how things are shaped and connected etc. And remember you don't have to show these practice drawings to anyone.
I know thanks to social media there's this pressure to show everything you make. But you really don't have to, if it makes you nervous. When I started drawing, we didn't have tumblr, twitter, ig or facebook. I drew a shit ton! I bought so many drawing pads, and no one has seen most of what's in there. I drew for myself. I had a webcomic idea and I drew so much of the characters and what would happen with them in the comic. I've drawn So. Much. And just recently I'm at a point where I can show my entire sketchbook to the entire internet. I wouldn't have done that maybe like 6-8 years ago. And I still skip some pages I don't want to show, for one reason or another. And that's fine.
Gosh, this became a longer reply than I intended. I hope it helps! Find that thing that makes you want to draw. For me it was the story I wanted to make and the characters for it (I started the webcomic but never finished it lmao). For you it can be your OCs, or some other characters, it can be a pet or a band you really like, it can be Nicholas Cage, or flowers, or anything! Find the itch and scratch it real good.
Let me share a drawing of mine from 20 years ago (I was 16):

this might be a weird ask, but I'm considering using protein powder. do you have a brand that you rec? and would you share some dos and don'ts?
It’s not weird anon! I use this brand (it’s cheaper in smaller quantities, Amazon just sells them in one year sizes lol)
Tumblr media
Personally I’ve found that eating lean protein from sources other than protein powder has been way more sustainable for me. I started out with the powder and slowly started adding in protein from other sources.
Don’t use whey powder if you have a hard time processing dairy. Don’t use it more than two times a day. Ensure you’re combining the whey with things like fruit, peanut butter, etc to get other nutrients.
Make sure you’ve evaluated your protein needs before starting to supplement with protein. I generally aim for 150g a day since I’m weightlifting, but a lot of people can hang out around 50-100g and be happy. Google is your friend here!
This vanilla is the best flavor because it tastes like what it says it is, and the flavor is general enough to mix with other toppings or additions.

do you happen to know any blogs more catered towards female subs by chance? all but like one of the good bi femdoms i’ve seen only post about male subs and im starving 😔 no worries if not since i know you may not interact with a lot of wlw content !!
I definately dont interact with much WlW content, I'm always anxious about annoying the sapphic community, but I know one or two female-run blogs. They may not be your thing if you're specifically looking for WlW stuff but:
@/vamp-domme is a trans lesbian domme, I know men follow her but her blog is very much female focused.
@/404hella is also a bisexual Domme, though obviously a lot of the people that write into her are male, as men are always horny bastards lol.
You can also check the wlwDomme and wlwSub tags and you'll probably find some great blogs in there! I also imagine that the same would go for lesbianDomme and lesbianSub tags, tho they may be blocked.
If any of my followers know any great wlw femdom blogs feel free to reblog with suggestions!

I’m like this close 🤏🏻 to attempting a loosely inspired Regency Era fic for Aruani.
But idk if anyone will read it. I also don’t have anyone to bounce ideas off of. 😭😭
You should write it.
While we all yearn and crave (and also need, I won't deny) feedback, appreciation and attention for our fics, it really is important to also remind ourselves that we write for our own pleasure too, and that aspect of the writing process shouldn't be overlooked as much as it is. It can be very daunting, yes, when you're wondering whether your ideas will appeal to readers, but try to see it this way: this is an idea you have, you can tell this story, and nobody else can tell it that same way. As such, I think it's worth attempting, no matter how frightening it seems. Small steps count, and above all, the satisfaction of creating something you love and seeing it finished, by your own effort, is unparalleled and a beautiful experience.
I would also say, try not to think too much about "what could" or "could not happen"; and instead enjoy the moments where you are writing and watching the scenes unfold brilliantly in your head.
As for having people to talk to about the ideas, you can always put out a post, or reach out to people who write similar (historical) fics/draw art inspired by those times; reaching out is also frightening, but you'll never know if you don't try. Fandom can be incredibly amazing :3
Do it all scared.

Hello Soap! Hoping all is good in your neck of the woods and that the basement flooding debacle was resolved easily. I've once again come to humbly request a bit more Jonathan Brewster/Herman Einstein during these trying times (finals week)
Hello there! Ah thank you so much for asking anon! The basement got fixed very soon by the perpetrators - they first tried to pin the flooding on me (because my washing machine is there, although i hadn’t used it in a week) but then they eventually got down to fixing it and cleaning up the damage, and now it’s all dry again!
I wish you the absolute best of luck on your finals!! It's tough out there, so I'm more than happy to make you a drawing to support you in your week! I hope you do well!

I was just wondering, do you have any tips for writing dialogue? I want to write fanfics but i really struggle with it.
Hi anon! I'm glad you're writing!
Dialogue is kind of my favorite thing, so I'm not sure I have any advice. When I start a scene, the bones are usually dialogue in my head. I think out the conversation the way I would say it, the way I imagine them saying it if it was a show playing out in front of me. I think the key thing is to always try to let them sound like themselves, even if that's not always grammatically correct.
I hope this helps! <3 <3 Just keep writing!

Despite everything, I’m quite excited for Artfight. It’s basically my Christmas getting to yeet art at unsuspecting folks.
One thing I am nervous about…
I have 14 pages of bookmarks.
I can generally do ~100 pieces per fight, but lord that’s gonna be a lot of fights before I can pare it down a bit… too many of you have cute characters. Too many. Stop that.

Hi! I just wanted to ask you something, I'm not sure if you've dealt with something similar at any point, but I figured it would be worth a shot.
So, I'm an avid PC gamer, like hours a day (if time allows), and recently, i have started to draw more frequently. I know you are also an artist, so I figured I might ask if you have any techniques/tips for stretching your dominant hand/wrist to prevent developing carpal tunnel? I haven't been drawing long enough (I think) to develop it anytime soon, but I'm still a little paranoid and Google hasn't been much help with specifics. Of course, if you are not comfortable answering this, I completely understand!
I wanna state that I am by no means a medical professional, this is just what I do personally as someone who grew up doing a myriad of activities involving my hands (viola, artistry, gaming, writing, etc.)
I don't think I've ever gotten carpal tunnel specifically, but I've definitely fucked up my wrists on occasion. Typically I'm drawing when I do it - majorly long pieces that take hours - but it has happened on occasion during long writing sessions. So, I've got a couple of strategies for remedying this:
angles are everything! my drawing tablet sits at a relaxed angle to put less strain on my wrist - I advise googling this as there are people who can explain this better than me. I also keep my laptop on a laptop pad typically, and I have a wrist-support mousepad. Very helpful.
finger stretches. This comes from my days as a violist, but I find carefully spreading my fingers with my other hand (kinda spock style but on all of them), then pulling them fully back individually then collectively, and ending with shaking my wrists out helps. Medically I can't speak if this is okay to do or not, and I do this primarily when I'm bored (like waiting for a train) not immediately before/after drawing.
CBD. It's legal where I live, but I have a "relief stick" which is just ointment to rub onto the affected area. It helps cool the pain.
Ice - if CBD ain't your style or legal for you, ice is a very good alternative for fast-acting relief of wrist-related pain.
Braces. I have two (left and right) wrist braces for when it's really bad. This is typically after long drawing sessions w/ few brakes when my wrists will just start to ache. I'll wear the brace for a few hours or a day or so, until the wrist stops hurting. Note: this wasn't a medically advised thing, my mother just suggested it since we had the braces around the house and I've never consulted a doctor on this. If you try this I highly suggest consulting a doctor first.
take breaks! Don't copy me - I will draw for hours without thinking of getting up to take a break and this has just seriously fucked me over so many times. Take a break at least every hour - though 30 minutes is the recommended frequency as it helps w/ blood flow. It'll give your wrists a break as well.
Again, I want to reiterate I am by no means a medical professional this is just my personal strategies. If you do start experiencing carpal tunnel seek medical attention.

My confession as an IF author is that the more I get stressed out the more I cope coming up with new IFs. Problem is, once I make the Tumblr blog I am becoming dependant on the amount of interaction I get. To the point that if I get a low amount I seriously consider deleting the blog/story, even though I personally like it
Oof... I feel that one Anon... (pls do not look up @sps-iron-hammer, it's not dead, just asleep). IF is so comforting and coming up with new concepts is so much fun!
Tumblr media
If you want some advice:
make a list/document of your ideas you want to do but don't publish/promote it right away (don't start the cycle)
come up with smaller IF ideas that can be written/coded in a short period of time (1-2 weeks, jam style), leaving you the possibility to expand on it later. Or participate in jams yourself!
Don't be afraid of putting projects on hiatus. Sometimes, the energy/will/creativity is just not there. And that's ok :)
Create stuff for yourself first. If people like it, they will interact with it (or lurk). If they don't, well you'll have create something anyway, a story you wanted to tell. More are into the world :D
Don't follow my advice because I can't even follow mine anyway (heeeeyyyy at all my WIPs!)

SEND ME YOUR CONFESSIONS ! RELIEVE YOUR SOUL!
