So M0w_do11s posted an story saying that dolls are a reflection of the artist's soul. And my twisted mind thought of those Penis dolls someone made. God I need therapy.

Definitely glad it’s the infinity symbol and not the puzzle piece. Bright blue hair or something would have been fun though—or an option to choose hair color, even if just for this one!

A while ago there was a confession about how people over 30 who still like dolls are weird and creepy. But by society's standards anyone over 10 who still likes dolls are weird lmao
Although now that I think about it when I was a dumb teenager I too used to think "old" people who are still into anime are weird. So maybe it's just some normal teenager brain rot.

BJDs made to look like real people are such a context-based thing for me. Like if someone makes a BJD based on, say Henry Cavill's likeness but styled him to look like Superman or Geralt, then I'm totally obsessed. If they style him to be Henry Cavill himself, and post as such, it's a turn-off. But I agree with this anon, I usually say "Ooh, nice... (reads description) oh, eww, okay..." then scroll on.
I myself own a few Minimee heads based on real actors but they're styled and shared as a character they portrayed in a movie or a show. I can't imagine owning a little version of a real person on my shelf, but for some people it's all the same thing, and that's fine, because life is too precious to try to change someone on the internet's opinion.

It’s weird but I just finished fully customizing a doll I’ve sunk about 2+yrs into (custom outfits, hair, eyes, etc) and now that it’s finally all together, idk I feel disappointed? I should be happy it’s completed but now I just feel sad and it’s been sitting since. Any advice on how to get out of this rut?

My grail is going to be up for sale by the artist for the third time. The first two times, only a limited quantity was available and I wasn't among the lucky ones. I have no reason to assume the third time will be different.
I would be way less annoyed if the same day this was announced, I didn't see someone had randomly bought one second hand at a convention not even knowing what that doll was.
It's not the end of the world but also it kinda pisses me off lol

Just an observation. H0us3 of D1sd41n Easter post was barely a mention and an only if you celebrate, but now its a post a photo of your sm4rtd0ll celebrating Eid (i'm sure they'd balk at a photo of a scene similar to Dhaka in 2016) with a massive post about how awesome it is. Leaving the inevitable arguments aside (please), why not do all things equally and include EVERY belief system. Jedi celebrate on May the 4th. Sith on May the 5th, Pastafarians celebrate on the 19th of September. Never seen a post about either of those three.

in response to the question of why people are obsessed with other people's financials: I think there's a couple camps. The first, and the most prevalent (from what I've seen) respond to people who will post CONSTANTLY about their financial troubles and hardships, essentially beg for financial support, and then instead of helping themselves, go out and buy more expensive shit in an already very expensive hobby (and ofc, take this with a grain of salt b/c we only see what people show so there's no way to know if they *actually* used the money given in good faith for things like bills and necessities or if they used it for designer doll clothing but... it's pretty sus sometimes). The second camp is bitter people who are upset that some people can afford to frivolously spend money on fun things when so many people are living paycheck to paycheck and that bitterness often then turns into a character judgment/this feeling that the people with the nice things don't deserve them somehow. The third camp is people who just like to judge and stir shit up I think lmao.

It’s downright ridiculous, seeing 4lana accuse people of copying her incredibly basic looking mini dollfie dream. I would understand many a bit if the doll was a unique art style, but this doll resembles any other default mini dollfie dream, very copy and paste. I think because they have lots of followers they think they are special. If you want to have a doll that looks like no one else’s, actually put in the effort so others can feel a tiny bit of sympathy when someone pops up with the exact same one.

The perception that this community hates newbie doll makers feels like people are not looking at the nuance of this conversation and just want to write of the community being hateful
Other than the fact the two newbies Teenyyy and DXgirlyyy are the center of the discussion, there have been many newbie sculptors that have come forward in the recent years that have been mostly or entirely not treated in the same manner. But the reason why they’re not being treated the way the same as they are is because A. They’re not pricing their dolls as the same as more experienced artists and B. Their quality of their work is worth the price they set it. And the issue with both of the people in question, was one made tubular heads and such misshapen bodies that even DoA doesn’t have their dolls on topic while the other was making flat back heads and off putting face ups they’re charging $50 for.
Of course Teenyyy and DXgirlyyy have “improved” in some ways compared to their start and I’m not calling for them to quit, but honestly they really need to take note from the other new artists just like them and adjust their prices to their skill level, because they’re simply not ready yet to charge $500+ for a doll.

I have an Etsy shop. I've sold a few items, but no one has left feedback on any of them. It's been months. I don't sell a lot of things, but that's fine. I really honestly like making doll stuff, but I'm disabled and making things is really physically hard on me (plus, disabled, I'm basically selling the stuff for as cheap as possible since I'm in the US and I am not allowed to make money). I can't do a lot, so I'd rather just... make myself stuff and not sell it? I mean I do enjoy it, but don't want to keep doing it if people think it's bad. And I can devote the time I have to making one big thing I will use instead of little things to sell or share with people. Maybe it's my anxiety talking when I think people not leaving reviews or feedback means they hated the item they bought.
