I just want to say I love the trope good character x morally grey character where insted of the morally grey character becoming better, the good character just becomes increasingly more grey so they just slowly go from "No you cant rob a store for fun cause your bored!" to "Arson? Tonight? Because they said you suck? Sure whatever" I think thats a neat dynamic.

Frequently hungover (allegedly) yet was still able to do his work diligently and professionally without any negative remarks from his costars, not one, compared to other sober actors who their costars and press people hated.
Hello, Anon:
Tumblr media
Not a harsh word, not a whisper of a rumor, not one scintilla of scandal spoken about Armie Hammer by his peers, associates, employers, and many others who’ve had the pleasure to be in his company for any significant length of time.
Those who have made public salacious allegations against Armie all seem to have come out of nowhere, all at once, and all with a singular goal of fomenting a timely scandal that was specifically most advantageous to his ex-wife, as he and she were embroiled in the middle of nasty divorce and custody proceedings. These accusers seem to be the only ones who’ve ever accused Armie Hammer of misconduct of any sort, with dubious claims that have yet to be proven with any substantive evidence to support them.
Timing is everything. So is motivation. Connect the dots on that.
Thanks for your insight. 💙🫶✨💪✨🫶💙

I’ve been thinking about the Legend of Korra and Captain Marvel a lot recently for some reason but what I’ve really been thinking about is how while I’ve seen things critiquing both characters for being too aggressive and over powered (and of course not bc they are women bc no one has ever hated women).
Korra’s aggression has a use and purpose for her characterization. She has to learn how to be calm in order to learn air bending, contrasting how Aang had to learn how to be more aggressive to learn fire bending. She was given reason and actual limitations so despite if you liked the character or not, you cannot say she’s not a good character. In Captain Marvel (the original - I haven’t seen the new one yet) Carol Danvers doesn’t really bring purpose or growth to her awesome powers and personality. We’re just told “look she’s a badass and she always has been one” while Korra had both physical and mental hold backs that she had to work through in order to reach her full potential as avatar.

Story Prompt 110
The clock on the wall ticked with a steady rhythm, filling the room with a sense of impending doom. Blood trickled down, staining the lips of the figure sitting bound in chains. Despite the evident pain and damage inflicted, there was a defiant glint in their eye, a spark of resilience that refused to be extinguished.
"You've fallen, just like they all do," sneered the captor from the shadows, their voice dripping with malice.
The figure chuckled softly, a dry, raspy sound that echoed in the dimly lit room. "Fallen? Perhaps. But a hero? That's a title I've never claimed."
The captor's laughter cut through the air like a knife, their amusement evident. "You may deny it, but your actions speak louder than words. Heroes always end up on their knees before me."
With a sudden crack, the chains binding the figure shattered into pieces, falling to the ground with a clang. The captor's eyes widened in disbelief as they watched the figure rise, their gaze burning with an intensity that sent shivers down their spine.
"A hero may fall," the figure growled, their voice low and menacing. "But they always rise again, stronger than before. And this time, I won't be the one forgotten."
A flash of crimson filled the captor's vision, a searing pain spreading through their body like wildfire. They stumbled back, clutching at their chest as if trying to quell the inferno burning within.
"Never again," the figure declared, their voice a haunting echo in the darkness. "Never again will I be at your mercy."

How to write a good character
1. Establish the basics: Begin by giving your character a name, age, and gender. These foundational details will provide a starting point for their development.
2. Define the physical attributes: Describe your character's appearance, including their height, build, hair color, eye color, and any distinctive features they may have. This helps readers visualize the character.
3. Develop their personality traits: Determine your character's personality by considering their strengths, weaknesses, beliefs, values, and quirks. Think about how these traits will influence their behavior and decision-making.
4. Create a backstory: Give your character a history that explains their experiences, upbringing, and significant events that shaped them. This backstory will influence their motivations, fears, and desires.
5. Set goals and motivations: Determine what your character wants to achieve and why. Their goals and motivations will drive their actions and provide a sense of purpose in the story.
6. Establish conflicts and obstacles: Introduce challenges, conflicts, or internal struggles that your character must face. These obstacles create tension and allow for character growth and development.
7. Develop relationships: Consider the relationships your character has with other characters in the story. How do they interact with family, friends, or enemies? Relationships add depth and provide opportunities for growth and conflict.
8. Give them a unique voice: Develop a distinctive way of speaking and mannerisms for your character. This helps readers differentiate them from other characters and makes them more memorable.
9. Show character growth: Plan how your character will evolve throughout the story. They should learn from their experiences, overcome challenges, and change in some way by the end.
10. Incorporate flaws and vulnerabilities: No character is perfect. Give your character flaws and vulnerabilities that make them relatable and human. Flaws can lead to character development and create opportunities for growth.
11. Make them relatable: Connect your character to readers by giving them relatable qualities, emotions, and experiences. This allows readers to empathize and invest in the character's journey.
12. Continuously refine and develop: As you write and receive feedback, keep refining and developing your character. Stay consistent with their established traits and make adjustments as needed to enhance their depth and authenticity.

Im thinking about Harmonie today. I mean im always thinking about her because she fills me with fury like a thousand suns because of how easy I am but that’s besides the point.
She seems to operate on some entirely extant plane of morality and her motivations are as obscure as her loyalties. She maintains this aura of aloof and coldly determined but the truth is she cares so much, often to her own detriment. She might claim its part of her own nebulous schemes, but that feels like a cop out to cover up the fact that she so often acts out of weakness and sentimentality.

Helryx for the ask game
First Impression: So, for the longest time, I really did not care about much of the story material outside of the main plot. Partly because I had no way to access the extra content, and partly because that's just how I am. I like side characters well enough, but our main Toa teams are still my faves, for the most part. I still haven't read the serials, despite knowing everything that happens in them (I will read them though...someday). So, my relationship with Helryx was kinda like that. I remember thinking it was cool that we knew who the first Toa was, and that it was also cool that it was a Toa of Water. I thought it made sense and seemed appropriate. I also remember thinking her mace/shield combo was interesting, especially for a Toa of Water, really got the point across that Helryx meant business, as if her name starting with "hell" didn't establish that already. But that was it. I did not think much about her beyond that point, there were main story events that held my attention more. So I thought she was cool, but she was as mysterious and background-y to me as she was to most of the main characters in-universe.
Impression Now: Helryx is a badass and I could honestly stop there if I wanted to. Nowadays I find Helryx fascinating, not as much as I know some other people do, but still a fair amount. I'm certainly more curious about her now than I used to be. She's a well of potential stories in terms of both her past and her future. Her history spans the entire history of the Matoran Universe, and we know from her description that she is not one to sit idle; she has been active on the front lines of secret wars for her entire life. The things she must have seen. What was she like as a rookie Toa? What shaped her into the grizzled veteran we see today? And what will she do now that her mission has technically been fulfilled? I can't exactly see her retiring, at least not willingly. She's also a favourite of my mother's, so that earns her some bonus points. She was actually the one to point out how few non-evil female authority figures there are in Bionicle as a whole, which is a big part of why Helryx appeals to her, something I hadn't really noticed before that point.
Favourite Moment: I haven't read most of Helryx's moments, so my answer may change eventually, but for now it is definitely her entrance when she confronts the Dark Hunters on Xia, i.e. that moment when she summons a several-hundred-foot tsunami in front of the Dark Hunter fleet and just leaves it hanging in the air with no visible effort. And then jukes them out with it just to make a point. It's probably the best example we have of exactly how powerful a Toa is capable of becoming. No one else has the experience Helryx does in using their powers, but in theory any Toa could pull off something like that with enough training. Just goes to show how much the villains underestimate them. And as for Helryx herself, well, she'd have made the Shadowed One shit his pants if he'd been wearing any, and that earns her serious cool points.
Idea for a story: Like I said, Helryx will almost certainly never retire willingly. So eventually someone will probably have to make her do it. Her armour is pitted and scarred, her body is frail, and while I don't doubt that she could keep going for a long time, I think she may be nearing the point that it would be unhealthy for her to do so. I do like the idea that the Toa Nuva may not be able to become Turaga, but I'm definitely of the opinion that Helryx can, and that she eventually will, likely after suffering a potentially debilitating injury, either at the urging of her closest Order members or because Artakha or some similarly powerful entity artificially jumpstarts the process to save her life. Either way, she would not be happy about it. Actually, it would be cool if this was treated like some regenerations have been handled in Doctor Who. Everything I mentioned before still happens: Helryx takes a bad hit, and either someone else triggers the Turaga transformation process or it involuntarily begins, but Helryx resists it. She can't stop it now that it's started, but she can hold it off for a while. The rest of the story then is this ancient warrior coming to terms with the fact that her fight is over. Wrestling with her perception of herself and her vision for the future, and ultimately accepting that she has done more than enough in her current role, and that it's okay to move on, that it's a good time for a change. I can see this very poignant scene of Helryx letting go, probably on a beach or a seaside cliff because I'm unoriginal, and letting the transformation wash over her while a few other characters watch. Then the new Turaga Helryx would turn around, look at all her friends agents, and probably grumble something along the lines of "What are you all gawking at? We have work to do." Yeah, just because she wouldn't be on the battlefield anymore doesn't mean she wouldn't still be in charge. Her spine would still be made of steel, even if it was a little more bent than it used to be. Also her Badge of Office would absolutely just be a shrunken version of her mace, and she'd still have her shield, Lhikan style.
Unpopular Opinion: I actually like her "canon" appearance. I mean it's not perfect, I'd definitely make a few tweaks, but overall I think it's a pretty good look for her. I like the retro style, makes her look that much more like a prototype. I can see her and the other early Toa sporting that build before the Great Beings eventually perfected their design and transitioned to the more Glatorian-like Inika build.
Favourite Relationship: I am very fond of how Helryx's acts toward other Toa. Krakua specifically, but really in general. She's such a mom. She wants so badly to protect her younger Toa-brothers and sisters from the nightmares she has witnessed. She wants the best for them, keeping them out of the Order, even denying Krakua full membership at first because she wanted him separate from her dark, messy world. Believing strongly in the Toa Code and that Toa should strive to uphold it, to be these bright shining heroes in the sunlight, all the while excluding herself from it so she can take care of the dirty work that has to be done so her little siblings can have that. The things Helryx does aren't always good, even if they're done with good intentions, but she herself, I think, is so good. I'd love to see her interact with Orde, just to see if her attitude extends to all Toa who came after her, or if she'd recognize him as a contemporary and switch gears, going from commanding but ultimately caring, to just old work-friend banter mode. "Good work, Krakua. Go rest up, I'll have another assignment ready for you when you're back. And tell Johmak not to leave pieces of herself lying around if you see her." vs "Oh hey Orde. Piss off any other species lately?"
Favourite Headcanon: Kinda related to the above, I am firmly of the opinion that Helryx is hilarious. She's 100,000 years worth of razor sharp wit. Doesn't let it out often, of course, she has an organization to run. But when she wants to be, she can be absolutely hysterical. All while keeping a completely straight face, of course. G2 Gali would beg to learn her secrets.

It’s probably really cheesy at this point, but I know I’m not the only one whose had the complaint and glad to see it done well somewhere.
Most of the best fictional gals are in the 90s or early 2000s. Rarely ever now do we get any well written characters on the same vein of people like Azula or Katniss or Tachibana. (I feel like I have to rely on Magical Girl anime now as the only source for good characters.) Nowadays the only trait is ‘they’re women and they can punch people’. And they’re either Mary Sue’s or unlikeable. Sometimes both. (They’re pretty obvious examples at this point so I don’t think I need to give names. (How TF did my family like Mulan 2020 and call me whiny for hating it?!))
So it might just be me getting touch starved and my love for Arcanes gals could die down rationally. But I just have to say that after nearly a decade of HORRIBLE representation of women in fiction flooding the streets, I wanted to appreciate so much more that there IS still good rep out there.
Is it too much to ask for a show with little to no feminist propaganda in mind, and just treats these gals like living breathing characters who get hurt and hit so much and makes you WANT them to succeed?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want characters who I can relate to, sympathize with, and route for to be strong. I want them to have compelling stories, fun personalities, and a character arc that breaks your heart, OR be inspiring. (Animated Mulan is one of my favorites)
Give us more of this. This goes for nearly all the women in Arcane, we need more characters like them. LESS She-Hulk, writers. (My family was watching it, somehow not cringing, and wanted me to watch it too cause ‘it was funny and it started a girl’. Torture. I tell you.) CHARACTER is where it’s at.
Also, some love for Vi, Jinx, REAL Mulan, Tachibana, etc.

While I will now always watch the Japanese original over the English Dub of Sonic X, this scene from the dub will always have a special place in my heart. Between the music and the pacing, it balances the grandiose nature of Sonic’s abilities and life with his youthful charm and excitability.
This is something that the same moment in Japanese doesn’t do as well, in my opinion. The entire pilot does great at showing this off in both versions, but something about how the English dub closes the episode really sets up the viewer with expectations for something big while the Japanese plays it straight. Sonic’s natural confidence (read: ego lol) seeps through the English scene in a way I think is welcome to the episode.
It’s subdued compared to English Sonic’s performance throughout the show—much more akin to Japanese Sonic’s characterization—but it’s a moment that feels well deserved in the scheme of the episode. I feel like Japanese Sonic gets more of these moments in the original, where they lets Sonic sit in his Sonic-ness while the dub moves at a break-neck, zany pace that never gets too serious, and so this rare moment of respite from the chaos is nice and very well done.
For all the strange choices that the English dub makes, smaller decisions like this one make me happy.

Al-Imām Ibn Rajab Al-Ḥanbaliyy, raḥimahullāh:
"The soundness of the heart from showing off, hatred, envy, deception, malice and purifying it from these matters is more virtuous than performing voluntary acts upon the limbs. Abundant actions of the limbs whilst the heart is defiled with any of these impure characteristics does not cause the heart to become pure; it is like planting in a land full of pests, hardly anything that grows in it is safe."

Nathaniel Barnes Appreciation Post😊
Tumblr media
I love this man. In almost every single scene he's in, he's a total badass, in lots of them he's funny, and in the other ones he has some deep stuff to share. He's a good cop, someone who actually won't break the law after years of service, when not even Jim Gordon's still refraining from committing crimes.
I don't blame everyone in Gotham for doing illegal things, but as a cop you should let people know that a) crimes won't be ignored, and b) that if they're didn't do something extremely bad, they don't need to fear approaching the police.
A common occurrence in crime fiction is that detectives get a small hint, and immediately jump to conclusions. They often end up arresting the right person thanks to this, however such conclusions can lead to terrible injustice, like the arrest of wrongfully accused people. And let's be real: most Gothamites are sketchy enough to fit into the image of a criminal.
It's also good to see the "main character" (Jim) get justified criticism and it's good to see it coming from a character as cool as Nathaniel Barnes. Now I haven't finished the show, but let's just say I'd be so sad if he died because of Jim's recklessness.

I know i make myself many enemies, but Does anyone like the bad characters in a show or movie more than the good ones? For example, in Miracoules I like Hawkmoth more than Ladybug. So I AM THE ONLY OR IS THERE SOMEONE LIKE ME?
