The criticism directed towards the Greek gods and goddesses seems unwarranted considering that the tales surrounding them primarily serve as narratives meant for storytelling, imparting warnings, and offering lessons to humanity. In essence, these deities represent natural forces, each presiding over specific domains, with their roles in myths being separate from their actual significance. These stories are crafted to provide relatable figures for human understanding, rather than being indicative of direct connections or moral judgments on the deities themselves.
ra : usually asociated with the sun and sky, ra is one of the more well-known gods of ancient egypt. he's also often referred to as a god of order, kings and often royalty.
osiris : often confused with/for anubis, he's another god of death, though is mainly more portrayed as more of the 'rebirthing' aspect. he's also associated with vegetation and agriculture.
horus : similar to ra, horus is also a falcon-headed god of the sky, as well as healing, kingship and protection. in some accounts, he also represents goodness, innocence and hero-ship.
seth : horus' uncle, the god of chaos, war, storms, violence... there's a lot of not great things associated with him. according to wiki, the planet mercury is often related to him.
anubis : another famous god of ancient egypt, guardian of tombs and also god of funerals, mummification and otherwise death and protection.
amun : god of air and wind. he's got many forms, due to his image changing over the course of egypt's periods.
bes : a lesser known god of entertainment and happiness. he's also a protector of households, family, mothers/children and often also childbirth.
konsu : lunar god, protector who watches over the people of the night. he's also noted to be a traveller, likely reflecting the phases of the moon.
thoth : god of science, writing, art, wisdom, and magic, you may associate him with study or school/work.
geb : his laughter is said to cause earthquakes, as he was called a god of earth. it's also apparent he allowed crops to grow.

♡ egyptian deities : part o2 !! – @akariidis on Tumblr
(if you're asking yourself 'what the hell is comms au?' then this will clear it up!)
spoilers for comms au ahead - go read up to chapter 32 if you don't wanna get spoiled okay?!
I've been having thoughts about the physical appearances of the different gods / deities in comms AU, so here are some random things:
Watchers (001): similar to those drawings of 'biblically accurate' angels. lots of wings, lots of eyes, some kind of eldritch power. they can See multiple planes of existence - code and the physical world - at the same time and can manipulate code. they feed on code, especially code created by player emotions. actively interested in breaking into servers by force and taking over. very powerful!! they also tend to take players they find interesting and turn them into a weaker version of themselves. enter: Grian001. he can see different versions of himself from different universes, and can seemingly tell what universe a player is from by looking into their code, but it isn't clear whether he can do that automatically or if it is because of the weird shit that's happening. Grian001 also becomes the code version of radioactive when unconscious, but it's unclear if this is a trait all Watchers share.
Watchers (005): a more generic / close to canon / fanon version of the Watchers - large masked god things with big ol' wings and magic powers. they feed on emotions more literally, as code is less of a physical thing. different emotions have different tastes (according to Grian005, who is not the most reliable source).
Listeners (002): they're kind of like worms, to me. rather than being a few huge entities, they are a collection of hundreds of small, invisible beings. maybe a hive mind. they are everywhere and always Listening, and they can always reach you (your code) and make you forget things / alter your perception of things. their design is very worm-like, maybe something like a centipede - probably the size of a medium-sized dog - and they have no eyes. they exist within the code and therefore most players can't touch or see them unless they are actively looking for them. they are like an infestation, a virus, crawling into servers through tears or wounds in the code.
Listeners (005): similar concept, but they act as more of a rival to the Watchers in this universe. looking more like them, too. Grian005 knows they are a threat and can change people's memories, and he views them with fear and horror because he knows what they can do.
Great Unknown (003): these freaks are kind of my favourite. like 002's Listeners, they are opportunistic, able to sense weaknesses in server protections and using that to break in. they feed on knowledge, expanding their feeding grounds by making 'angels' - player vessels - which they can use by seeing through their eyes. the Great Unknowns are a pair of beings, which is hopefully implied by how I write them. I imagine them as looming, hooded figures with impossibly blurry/static/shadowy faces and robes that cover their whole bodies. they also potentially have wings like their angels do. like statues. their design is, like their dialogue, inspired by catholicism. as the only deities who speak (so far) I imagine their voices to have an echo and have no real source, just existing as frequencies around the characters. rather than being able to see code, they seem to see the universe in an abstract physical sense. I can only describe it as like a lava lamp.
The Infection (004): ... wouldn't you like to know?
I expanded my deity space btw!!!! And I hand-sewed the cloth underneath it, as well :)
I still don't like to call this an altar!! For me, altars are more formal, more used. This is really just a place for decorations and offerings to my deities.
I'm still not sure if this is the place to do this
but no one told me otherwise so I'm just going to do it. I'll be going over the deities I made, likely in groups of 2-3. But first I'm going to explain some mechanics I thought up. for one, there are two types of deities: Material and Eldritch Ancient. The "EA"s I'll explain at a later date. Every material deity is categorized into one of three pantheons, mind, body, and soul. because I plan for my world to be a bit more religion oriented choosing to believe in one is a high management, medium reward type of deal, this management is semi greatly reduced for clerics, paladins and warlocks due to them devoting their life/soul to the being. once someone enters a religion its very hard to exit it. In order to gain boons and blessings one must give attention to those they pray to every so often. If ignored they will ignore in turn or even gain animosity all depending on an affinity system. Another idea I plan on implementing is the "twin faith" mechanic, allowing someone to worship two deities at the same time. However, not all are compatible with each other. Some are rivals, some are family, one might require more worship compared to the other. I'll have to make a character relationship chart to explain all the interactions. Another thing I should mention is that every material deity has their own negative and positive afterlife (except for a select few) and depending on what the devotee decides in life they are sent to one of them. When someone has twin faith and they reach death they are transported to the "spectral court" in which the two deities they worship "battle for custody" over which afterlife the soul goes to. In order to explain where the faithless go in death I would need to explain an Eldritch Ancient.
Holy crap we're getting into the last month. Okay. almost no queue time lets go
These are gods for my setting called Ideon, in order of left to right, top to bottom we have:
Selena the Dreamweaver, Neoma the Moon, Kalindi the Sun, Leojan the Great Architect, Pumai the Evergreen, Xathor the Prince of Bones, Himesh the Fickle Father, Emry Augor of Dust, and Umbra the Lover
Below the cut are the slides I made for my players to get a better understanding of them!
These instagram posts pretty interesting. They are made by Mexican artists who apply elaborate makeup and costumes to depict Aztec deities and other pre-Columbian legends. The makeups are gorgrous (and a little creepy).
In the first video, I believe the language is based on ancient Aztec.
This is a demo of makeup being applied. You’ll notice they paint eyes on the eyelids, so that when they pose later, with their eyes closed, it creates a very eerie other worldly effect.
does anyone else forget that percy and annabeth (and all demigods) aren’t actually human? they’re part human, part deity. but not identified as either.
like… they have some human dna, they appear human and act human and feel human… but they are not human. just like they’re 50% god, but they are not gods. becasue even though the gods choose to appear as humans, they are composed of the same fundamental particles and forces that make up everything in the universe. they’re incorporeal energy. they’re these metaphysical transcendent entities that can shape-shift
and that is half of what a demigod is. percy and annabeth are not human beings. they’re some kind of hybrids. they’re humanoids. if percy and annabeth were to take DNA tests, the results would look something like this:
findings: what the fuck? error.
and i low key feel like they would have a good time using this fact to make ppl uncomfortable
like imagine percy and annabeth are out with both their families on a walk near the beach, and there’s this little mini cliff. percy and annabeth just casually jump down, but the rest of them are like “uh, guys, we can’t do that” to which percy and annabeth just respond “ugh, humans…🙄” knowing full well that for the rest of the day, all any of them will be able to think about is how the two of them are in fact, not human.
