I’ve seen a fair amount of posts complaining about this arc in Frieren and… we are all entitled to our own opinions etc which is why I will be launching into a Defense of Frieren’s Exam Arc :) Keeping it manga spoiler free since it seems like most of these complaints are from anime-only viewers.
For me the main draw of this arc is the world building. We’ve spent all this time with Frieren and Fern as our main perspectives on magic. Because it’s Frieren, the magics we’ve been hearing about have mostly been a little silly and sweet. But now we’re finding out that 1) “mage” is largely still a combat designation, and 2) Frieren and Fern are actually incredibly jack-of-all-trades when it comes to their magic repertoire. The “magic is visualisation” part is starting to be really leant into and we’re seeing more humans as well who seem to specialise in one magic (steel flowers, rocks, clones, ice and water…) It’s cool!! It’s objectively cool! I love being able to see this range that we wouldn’t have had otherwise! Also it’s fucking fantastic to see how much of a BEAST Fern really is when compared to other human mages. And she doesn’t even seem that aware of it.
Coupled with that is being able to see different people’s philosophies toward magic. I think a lot of viewers are kind of down about the sudden huge influx of side characters who they don’t really care about. But these philosophies—Land’s maximum wait-and-watch, Wirbel and Ubel’s vastly different approaches to killing—keep expanding the world and highlighting Frieren and Fern’s own perspectives. It’s soooo good seeing them react to situations not of their own making and people not of their own kind.
We get to see human society that isn’t a village in the middle of nowhere! We get to see Frieren being forced to socialise! We get to see Fern away from her emotional support elf! We get to see how society has changed since the demon king was defeated! I love that Himmel and co ushered in an era of peace, which it is, and yet the world is still full of conflicts. Truly the story continues after the hero is finished.
To address a few specific complaints I’ve seen brought up:
Frieren isn’t about all these nonstop shounen fights.
Agreed! Which is why it’s cool as hell that Frieren’s main badass shounen strategy is “sit very still for 10 hours”. That aside? There actually hasn’t been much actual fighting. You could probably count up the minutes in which actual spells are being cast and it’ll be something like 2 minutes max in the latest ep20. And that’s because it’s not about who beats who, it’s about the philosophies, the worldbuilding, the ways of thinking about magic. This is not a power-measuring contest, much as Genau would like to make it. And the random lucky draw-ness of the Stilles only plays further into that. It is possible to pass this exam without coming into conflict with others, and certainly without battles to the death. It hasn’t ever been about the shounen fights.
The good part of the show was about the delicate melancholy and that’s totally missing here.
I agree that it’s one of the strong points. But the thing with the melancholy is that it only works when juxtaposed against other moments. A story that’s composed of a bunch of unlinked wistful slice-of-life episodes will eventually fall apart because it has no momentum, no driving force. And ten years to Ende is too long to go without at least some conflict. Also, again, ten-hour bird meditation session?
Anyway, there’s melancholy, but how sad it would be if there was nothing but introspection and wistfulness. Frieren is bringing the memories of Himmel forward with her into the future. That means she has to be moving forward, forging new relationships with unrelated people, going into situations that she hasn’t been in before. A Frieren stuck in the past would be against the themes of the show, of remembering and yet moving on.
Why should I care about them spending ages trying to catch a bird?
You don’t like Stille? 🐤 fweet?
Actually I care lots about this funky thing. Indestructible and goes supersonic fast. That’s fucking hilarious. Bird that simply cannot be contained. Genau is a dick for setting up this kind of exam when, Your Honour, my client Stille does not deserve to be imprisoned.
Too many irrelevant side characters who it’s hard to care about, and they’re gonna be thrown away at the end anyway.
Again, it’s the worldbuilding. And also, mild spoilers for stuff that won’t be covered in the anime, but at least one of these side characters does come back and we get more delicious main character development as a result. Though frankly many of these characters are deeply compelling and interesting to me so I don’t rly get this complaint. Give me more Lawine.
Where’s Himmel? What do these exams have to do with the hero party? Frieren is good because of the links to the past.
Frieren is good because of the links to the past, which affect how Frieren responds to the present. The whole point of Frieren is that Frieren’s life continues. And through her new experiences, she comes to understand and reconnect to the emotions she didn’t realise she felt about her past. I don’t care what Himmel would think of the mage exams, I care what Frieren thinks of them now. And the answer is that she doesn’t really give a damn but she’s in here anyway because Fern strongarmed her into it, and then she was forced to adopt two more kids along the way, and all of that is something she never would have done if she was still hermiting in the Central Lands. Somehow we are still getting Himmel flashbacks anyway? So? He’s still haunting the narrative guys. Just because Frieren isn’t saying “that’s what Hero Himmel would do” out loud in these circumstances doesn’t mean his ghost isn’t here.
Even so, Frieren clearly recognises the name Serie. Do not fear. There is going to be more about links to the past.
I miss Stark.
Fair enough. It’s okay, he’s just on vacation rn. Having an appy juice.
It’s taking too long. The arc is too slow.
It’s only been three episodes… I’ve seen people going “it’s already been three episodes!” but what? Really? Is that considered an excessive amount of time now?? Given the amount of story covered I think it’s quite reasonable? There’s still 8 episodes to go in which we cover the remaining exam stages. Have some patience like Frieren. The payoffs are being set up; they’ll resolve before the end of the mage exam arc. In the meantime, let’s enjoy theorising about the soft magic system and hollering for full auto Fern.

Served! Sanji x Fem!reader Pt. 2
Slight anime spoilers/foreshadowing.
THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT ON THE FIRST CHAPTER!!! <3
Tumblr media
Your anxiety was at a full ten as all you could do was listen to pots banging and clattering and Sanji yelling at his makeshift team of chef’s that consisted of a green haired sword fighter, a liar, and a rubber man who wanted to eat everything he saw.
You almost got up from your bed when you heard what sounded a awful lot like a fire extinguisher.
“Oh my God i’m doomed.” You mumbled still clutching your stomach.
You sighed looking over at the orange haired woman occupying your sisters bed and wondered how this woman had managed to make it this far with a crew full of idiots.
If she survived she definitely had your full sympathy.
You sighed looking back over your recipe book that contained numerous healing recipes that you had mastered over the years.
From the looks of the woman it seems she has been bitten by some type of insect, probably from a warm island climate if you had to take a guess.
You skimmed through your book trying to see what recipe would best suit the woman.
Your thoughts were however interrupted by a knock on your door.
You slowly got up and answered the door surprised to see Sanji standing before you.
“How’s Nami?” He immediately asked, looking slightly past you into your room to see his friend still unconscious.
“She’ll get better when I start on the recipe I need to heal her, I already have a few in mind, but that’s not going to happen anyway unless you serve a meal worthy of a outstanding letter of recommendation from the food critic.” You said crossing your arms.
He nods, “That’s why I came up here, come down stairs for a food test.” He said.
You nod your stomach still doing sommersaults but you’d brave anything to make sure your got a good review tonight. So you followed Sanji down stairs and nearly fell out when you saw the state of your kitchen.
It looked like a sea beast had torn apart your kitchen.
“Sweet Jesus…” You said.
“I promise I will clean it thoroughly.” Sanji quickly intercepts seeing you look like you were about to collapse from the sheer shock. “LUFFY I TOLD YOU TO STOP STANDING ON THE TABLES!” Sanji yelled kicking him off.
“Owwww Sanjiii!! I was trying to reach the pots!!” Luffy groaned.
“I Put you on untensil cleaning what could you possibly need a pot for!?” Sanji angrily yelled.
“TO BOIL THE CRAB DUH!” Luffy yelled back.
“WHY ISN’T THE CRAB BOILED!?” Sanji seethed.
“BECAUSE USOPP DIDN’T WANNA TOUCH IT!!” Luffy yells pointing at Usopp.
“IT PINCHED MY NOSE!” Usopp exclaimed.
“I’m lost..” Zoro says holding up two spoons one which was the soup spoon and the other the tea spoon.
“WHEN ARE YOU NOT!?” Sanji hissed throwing a ladle at the mans head.
“WATCH IT CASANOVA!” Zoro seethed.
Sanji sighed turning to you, “Come this way Y/N.” He said directing you out to the dining hall that to your surprise had been miraculously fixed up and in front of you were the main courses and appetizers for the night.
“These are the samples that your sister helped me make, she’s currently looking for some more seasonings for the seafood gumbo.” He paused then continued, “She’s a really fantastic cook, i’m sure she learned from you.” Sanji said giving you a more pollite smile than the flirtatious ones he used earlier.
All you gave was a nod as you began trying some of the lobster mac and jambalaya.
You watched Sanji stare at you with the upmost confidence in his dishes as you chewed and swallowed the rest making sure to have a complete poker face all throughout.
Your little sister enters the room and sees you testing the food.
“Y/N how is it!? I made sure he followed your recipe’s to the highest degree!” She boasted.
You put your fork down and stared at both of them, “The jambalaya could definitely use more kick, the lobster mac a bit more salt, and i’m assuming you prepared the alligator?” You said looking at your little sister.
You take the entire platter of alligator and basically shove it at her.
“Y-yes!” She said shakily.
“It’s too tough, 86 it, and do it over again.” You said flatly.
“R-right!” She said taking the platter and immediately running off her face heavily dissapointed.
You look back over at Sanji who to your surprise had sat down pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and was already mid smoke watching you and your sister interact.
“Ooh your tough, reminds me of Zeff.” He notes blowing out a puff of smoke.
“Who told you you could smoke in my restaurant?” You said plucking the cigarette out of his hand.
He smiles, “My apologies.” He says. “So back to the cutting board?” He asks.
“No. Yours was actually good it can go out.” You said then added, “Guess Zeff instilled some sense in you when it comes to cooking.” You noted.
Sanji laughs, “I can out cook him on my worst day.”
“Hmm, add some more seasonings to those dishes and they’ll be set.” You said. “Just no oregano okay?” You stressed.
Sanji paused and stared at you with a awe struck look followed by a bright smile that nearly blinded you, “I think I just fell for you harder.” He said breathlessly.
“I don’t believe in love at first sight.” You say flatly.
“Then maybe I should walk in again?” He offered a flirty smile gracing his lips once again.
“You are really making me sick.” You sighed feeling the nausea creep back upon you.
“Love sick?” He raised a brow.
“No. Just sick, sick.” You plainly say as his smitten look remained on his face.
You shoot the cook a puzzled look and shake your head, “Okay lover boy, dinners in a few, i’m going back upstairs to look through my healing recipes.” You say turning to leave before the love cook could utter another word.
Before you went upstairs you could hear Luffy screaming, “SANJIII ONE OF THE CRABS ESCAPED!!”
“HOW!?” You could hear sanji angrily yell back.
“IT’S NOT OUR FAULT IT HAD A KNIFE!” Usopp could be heard squealing.
“ZORO FIGHT IT!” Luffy could be heard yelling.
Next thing you heard was “THREE SWORD STYLE!!” Followed be a whole lot of ruckus.
It would be a miracle if you pulled this dinner service off you thought.
-
It was dinner time and you had succesfully managed to find a recipe you think would work on the bedridden woman now it was just time for Sanji to uphold his end of the deal you. Your stomach was still in knots but you managed to dress yourself up for the dinner service and walk yourself down the stairs to a restaurant full of customers some seated, some waiting to be seated.
Your sister along with Zoro and Usopp seemed to be waiting tables, you laughed just a bit when your sister had to instruct Zoro more than several times where the empty tables were for people to be seated.
Your sight suddenly caught a man to the far right back corner of the restaurant by himself and every chef’s insight when it came to food critics kicked in and you knew this must be the food critic.
You nearly threw up again this time anxiety induced as you quickly ran towards the kitchen and screamed for Sanji.
“Sanji!” You yell out of breath by the time you entered the kitchen.
“Mon cheri is everything okay?” He asks setting the frosting down since he was in the middle of decorating desserts.
“The-The Critic is out there far right back corner table.” You stressed. “ I cannot meet him in the state i’m in.” You explain.
“You look stunning though.” He said admiring your outfit.
“If sweaty, pale, and exasperated is stunning I must be frickin gorgeous then, Sanji go out there and talk to them!” You say grabbing the man by the tie and dragging him towards the door but not before the door opened and your sister stood their smiling.
“I met the food critic!!” She boasted.
Your blood ran cold immediately.
“You what?” You asked.
“I met the food critic!” She repeated, “And guess what since we were running out of appetizers due to the crawfish shipment being delayed I offered him some of the shrimp skewers I made left over from last night, they were such a big hit I thought he’d like them!” She excitedly said.
“There were leftovers…I thought we ate them all-”
“Well yeah but I saved a plate for myself for later, it’s a good thing I didn’t eat them though.” She smiled excitedly.
Your heart rate was in over drive and you had never ran so fast in your entire life.
“Don’t eat that shrimp skewer!!” You yell in a room full of crowded people who all pause and look at you appauled.
Your eyes meet the food critic and his empty appetizer plate and you nearly collapse right there.
Your sister hurries behind you followed by Sanji who looked just as lost as everyone else in the room.
You watch the food critic approach you and you swear the world is spinning at this point.
“Are you the owner of this establishment?” The critic says their eyes boring into you with peak interest.
You couldn’t read his face which only heightened your panic, “Y-yes sir..” You stutter.
“Well Ms, I suggest your get some new wait staff, that gentleman over there ate my appetizer before I could even take a bite!” He angrily says.
Your eyes widen in confusion until the critic points to the back of the restaurant where you could see Luffy laying flat on his back on a table surrounded by gobbled up scraps from desserted plates.
“LUFFY!” Sanji yells.
“Uhhgggg I don’t feel so well.” He groans.
“Ah..I apologize sir, please allow us to get you another appetizer and perhaps a bottle of our fancy wine?” You offer.
The critic contemplates for a minute and then nods, you sigh and relief and Sanji quickly goes to serve the critic his food.
You let out a sigh of relief as your sister still looks at you puzzled by everything that had just occured.
You say nothing as you walk back upstairs suddenly needing to lie down.
-
The dinner service ended and you were too scared to go back downstairs to see what had happened. It wasn’t until you heard a knock on your door that you got up and answered it. There stood Sanji still wearing his suit and famous smile.
“Come downstairs?” He asked.
You nodded following him downstairs as he lead you past the dining room, past the kitchen, and outside at the back of the restaurant where a nice deck stood over looking the ocean.
“So you found the deck huh?” You quipped as you saw a table and two chairs set up that hadn’t been there before.
“It’s peaceful back here.” He noted.
“It is.” You agree sitting down noticing a lidded tray in the middle of the table.
You shoot him a bewildered look and he just smiles unveiling the plate just like he would any other customer.
There in front of you on a plate layed a single letter, and a drink.
“The drink is a pear ginger smoothie to help settle your stomach, and the letter is from the critic, bon appetite.” He says smiling warmly as he sits across from you.
You give him a short smile and sip the smoothie actually surprised with just how good it is.
“It’s not a healing recipe, but it should still help ease the nausea” He says.
“Thank you.” You say as you focus your attention back onto the letter, “Did you read it?” You ask.
“It’s your restaurant Mi’lady.” He says, “You should do the honors.” He says.
You nod as you pick up the letter and take a deep breath before reading it.
As you read you could feel Sanji’s eyes locked onto you and you weren’t sure if it was due to anticipation or something else as you could feel his inquistive eyes never leave you.
You set the letter down and look at him.
“Well East Blue Boy, you did it!” You smiled watching a wide smile spread upon his face.
“Great review?” He asked happily.
“4 out of 5 stars, mostly because of the poor wait staff-”
“I Apologize for Luffy.” Sanji immediately cuts in.
“Actually I think he saved me.” You sigh putting the letter down as sitting further back in your chair.
“Yeah what was that about earlier?” He asks shooting you that same questioning look as he reached in his pants pocket and pulled out a lighter and another cigarette.
“Geez what are you a chimney?” You quip.
“I’m assuming it’s okay now that we’re outside?” He asks before he lights.
“Eh it’s your lungs.” You shrug.
He gently laughs, “You trying to stall?” He asks.
You sigh frowning a bit, “I know what caused me and my entire staff to contract food poisoning.” You admit.
“Yeah I was wondering about that, how does a chef as talented as you get food poisoning?” He asks.
“It wasn’t me..” You admit. “It was my sisters shrimp skewers.” You explain.
“Wait-the ones she gave the critic!?” Sanji eyes widen. ”Those very ones.” You nod, “Thank God Luffy ate them before he did, ohh wait he’s okay right?” You ask kind of worried about the bouncy kid.
“Luffy’s immune to most poisons, he’s fine just a mild stomach ache I gave him one of the ginger smoothies as well.” Sanji says.
“That’s good.” You say tiredly.
“Your sister though? She’s so talented?” Sanji asks.
You shake your head, “She’s amazing, she’ll probably be better than me at some point..but she’s young, passionate and quite forgetful, always so quick to move from one thing to the other, like leaving those shrimp skewers out for hours and only fridgerating it after it had been out most of the day.” You sigh.
“Ah..so that’s how it happened.” Sanji sort of chuckles. “Zeff would’ve had my head if i had let something like that happen, but you made her my sous chef?” He wonders.
“She’s young, and makes mistakes, but when she’s serious she’s one of the most talented upcomers i’ve ever seen.” You say proudly. “I knew with a critic coming in she was going to give it her all.”
“You trusted her even though it could’ve meant the end of your restaurant?” He states admiration for you ghosting his face.
“Of course, she’s my sister.” You shrug giving a small smile.
He returns the smile as you both fall into silence.
You can’t help but notice his blue eyes and how much they shined looking at you in a way you couldn’t quite place.
You clear your throat and stand up, “Well since you fulfilled your end of the bargain I better start making the recipe to heal your friend.” You say.
He nods and you begin walk to the door turning around as you see him still seated there.
“Aren’t you coming?” You ask.
He raises a brow in confusion.
“Come on your going to help me.” You say watching his eyes light up.
“Yes Chef!” He says smiling as he puts his cigarette out and follows you in.
-

**No spoilers please**
But this goes out to anyone who’s watched the fnaf movie, is it worth the watch?
Update: I’ve watched it *** SPOILER WARNING***
I have now watched the movie and as you all promised, it was great!!!
As I’ve mentioned in the comments I don’t really scare at movies, but the suspense in this movie actually had me so on edge.
I think the way the animatronics were portrayed so sympathetically at parts made the switch from these lost children to murderous mechanic beasts that much more unnerving.
The little actors were so fantastic too in those dream sequences, playing the part of tortured souls. Still so childlike and just wanting a friend, and yet the trauma inflicted on them by William Afton making them so restless.
It ends up feeling that their motive is so much more than to have Abby as their friend, but that they want to relive the trauma of being taken away from their families and their lives over and over through other people and kill anybody that gets too close.
And **EXTRA EXTRA SPOILER ALERT**
Matthew Lillard what the fuck you incredible man!!!! I don’t think I could imagine anyone else as William Afton now. What stuck with me is the way he played that scene stabbing Vanessa. The whole movie he was clearly not in his right mind, even as Steve Raglin you get an uneasy sense that this guy is unhinged. But there is a brief moment of clarity when he stabs his own daughter, almost wondering “what have I done?”
In summary, visuals, amazing. Character development, amazing. Cast, even better! Josh Hutcherson, such a likeable character and great actor, he really immerses you into Mike’s life and holds the movie up, but Matthew Lillard fucking runs the show at the end. Elizabeth Lail so nice to see her on screen again since ‘YOU’, she’s incredible! Really hope there’s another movie and hope to see her in it.
Patiently awaiting fnaf 2

My girlfriend wants to get into tohou, what game should I get for her?
As far as starter games go, I'd recommend Touhou 14 (Double Dealing Character), Touhou 17 (Wily Beast and Weakest Creature), or Touhou 13 (Ten Desires). They're all on the relatively easy side; 13+14 have some of my favorite characters in the series and 17 is just a blast to play, even if you're a newcomer.
I also hear Touhou 7 (Perfect Cherry Blossom) recommended a lot as a starter game, but I actually haven't played that in ages so I don't know if I'd necessarily agree with that. It's definitely got more in the way of Actually Relevant Characters than some installments so that's a point in its favor. I have since played Perfect Cherry Blossom! It's pretty good but 1. it definitely shows its age and 2. every fucking boss in that game will not stop moving around. Dunno if it's the best introduction to the series.
After that, if she's interested in exploring one of the gimmicky side-games, I'd recommend Double Spoiler and Impossible Spell Card.
I would recommend against starting with Touhou 6 (Embodiment of Scarlet Devil), which just isn't that good; Touhou 12 (Undefined Fantastic Object), which is on the more difficult end and makes it pretty tough to rack up lives and bombs; Touhou 15 (Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom), which is I Wanna Be The Guy to me; or Touhou 18 (Unconnected Marketeers), which is fun but has a significant RNG element and throws an absurd amount of bullets at you.
Assuming she can't read Japanese, you'll also want to download thcrap, which is fan-maintained software that can apply translation patches pretty easily.

5 Non-MCU Characters I'd love to see in Deadpool & Wolverine
Tumblr media
Superbowl Sunday saw the return of everyones favorite Merc with a Mouth Deadpool in the trailer for his upcoming new movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
And as usual, Marvel hooked me.
Some fans have seen it as a return to form for the MCU, others as business as usual for Ryan Reynolds, and some just couldn't get over the little bit of Wolverine we got.
Tumblr media
Myself, I was mainly focused on one thing. Aaron Stanford.
Tumblr media
For those not in the know, this clip from the trailer shows Aaron Stanford returning as minor villain and asshole Pyro from the original X-Men Films. He was a sidekick to Magneto, and has a rivalry with Iceman in those movies.
Tumblr media
The return of Pyro from the X-Men films confirms what most fans expected: we will see old heroes and villains from the Fox era, not just Wolverine.
And while a few have been already revealed through casting news or set photos, there are plenty more in store for us, I'm sure.
This got my head gears turning, so I decided I'd look back on the old Fox films to see who I want to return, even for the briefest moment or cameo.
None of these have been confirmed officially, so you are spoiler free from here on out. But I must warn, once I put this ideas in your head, you may be mad if they don't show up.
5. Animated Deadpool Voiced by Donald Glover
Tumblr media
*sigh* The project I wish existed.
In 2017, Donald Glover was in development and given the green light on an animated Deadpool show. The show was to premiere on FX in 2018. However, for unknown reasons it was cancelled, and never debuted, leaving fans and Donald Glover displeased.
Tumblr media
After the success of films like Spider-Verse, and Glovers involvement with Marvel, having him come in for a scene where he fights with or against Ryan Reynolds Deadpool could be a fun nod to the fans and maybe give the project the boost it needs to somehow come back.
But alas, I'm still hoping Spider-Verse will bring back Spectacular Spider-Man, so what do I know?
Tumblr media
4. X-23
Tumblr media
If there is a character ripe for a spin-off from the old X-Men universe, it was definitely X-23.
It's surprising to me she hasn't been revealed as a main member of the cast. She's a character I think few people talk about anymore, but was a crucial part of the film. I'd say Logan is up there and one of the best superhero movies.
Dafne Keen and Hugh Jackman made Logan such an impactful moving film. I'd love to see where the character has gone since Logan, and see how them reuniting effects the film.
Tumblr media
Not to mention if she fought Deadpool, it would be one hell of a good (and kind of funny ) fight.
3. Apocalypse
Tumblr media
Do I like this character? Absolutely not.
Do I want him here just for the Moon Knight jokes? Yes.
I actually think theres a good Apocalypse in Oscar Isaac somewhere. Having Deadpool and Wolverine at one point face the X-Men's Thanos sounds pretty cool, and Isaac is a great comedic and dramatic performer who deserves another shot.
I wouldn't mind a CGI version that looks more comic accurate, like Beast in the Marvels.
Tumblr media
But again. I really just want Deadpool to say "So are you Steven or Marc?"
2. The Human Torch
Tumblr media
Similarly, I want the Captain America jokes.
But if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that Human Torch was by far the best part of those Fantastic Four movies.
There's just so many things you can do with it!
We can have him in the frosted tips, in a new Fantastic Four uniform. Maybe even have him fight Pyro, stop a fire guy with a fire guy. Or have him come out from behind a train like Captain America in Infinity War, but it's Johnny.
Tumblr media
Having Evans play across Reynolds even for a bit would make so many fans happy and get more cheers then No Way Home.
Besides Evans has done a cameo in a Shawn Levy film starring Ryan Reynolds once. He can do it again.
Tumblr media
1. Legion
Tumblr media
The rumored main villain of this film tends to have a very particular vendetta with Charles Xavier. So why not use his son to acquire power?
Legion is the acclaimed show from Noah Hawley starring Dan Stevens as David Haller, a mutant with schizophrenia and basically unlimited power.
Tumblr media
Dan Stevens is incredible in this show, and I think bringing in such a powerful X-Men character would make for some fun interactions and extreme stakes. Not to mention the insane visuals, all while delving deep into the psyche of both are protagonists.
While I doubt all of these characters show up, if one or two do, I'd be extremely happy. We'll just have to wait and see.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for reading! Please consider following, and check out my socials and other sites here! And let me know: Who do you want to see in Deadpool and Wolverine?

*sigh* I know I said I really wasn't going to do this but at the same time I want to briefly talk about what I did enjoy playing this year, or what was fairly standout to me. Of course, caveat of how the industry has been churning over so many developers and workers and axing people left and right for nonsense reasons. And for the most part, some of these I've talked extensively about through the year so I won't include all my thoughts on them here. Anyway let's dig into it:
Hi-Fi Rush- You know when you play something and it oozes love for it's topic and the game itself? Yeah, that comes through in so many facets of this passion project of a game (especially since it had a surprise drop and surprising team behind it (Tango more well known for the survival horror series The Evil Within). Somewhat...hmm ironic that this game contains so many jokes/nods to the abusive working conditions of the industry (while certainly framed in a negative way I sure do hope the devs that worked on this didn't have the need to crunch). Coming off of the backs of the dmc games at the end of the year prior had me well equipped for this game's very fun rhythm combat, and I deeply adore the 'classic' ps2-gc era feel of the game, both in the level structure and the fact it has levels.
Dragon's Dogma (Dark Arisen ver.) - I'm not going to repeat what I've said like a thousand times. Sick as combat and really fun systems. Feels very classic rpg in the way quests and the worlds come across (helped by it's very traditionally fantasy monsters). And of course, I would be remiss to not include a link to my absolute favourite track that plays whenever you topple a giant creature. As soon as you hear that choir and strings kick in? Yeah that's the good stuff.
Baroque- Ahhh baroque. Baroque, Baroque, Baaaaaaroque. What haven't I said about this game? It very quickly became one of my absolute favourites of all time last year. Helped by the fact I could instantly attune to its all too familiar mystery dungeon styled gameplay. An intense and highly atmospheric game.
Ai Somnium: The Nirvana Initiative - Another game I talked about a lot this year. One I enjoyed a hell of a lot more than it's prior game, even if it underutilises some of its characters. Did you know this game lies to you and then pulls the wool off of your eyes and goes 'HA! You thought this was happening and it was actually this!' and it's so fucking rude about hahahaha. Actually made so everything does line up the way it does, I even replayed things after that reveal to get my facts all in order and was amazed that they hid a sneaky character swap between cutscenes loading. I feel the game is fairly hampered by it's 'silly spoiler filter', which I feel subtracts too much from the game to really let it be a decent sequel.
Misericorde - Man. I love a good mystery. Misericorde sets itself up so well I love the degree of doubt and I love a unreliable narrator speaking of events past all the while being affected by their emotions in the matter. Hedwig is a sopping wet beast of a nun (prior achoress, essentially someone who takes a vow of isolation, so she's got many years of learning how to socialise to catch up on) thrown out into the world to discover a murderer in the abbey, all the while trying to learn about the other nuns that live and work there and not raise suspicions. Really fantastic and chapter 2 is one I am keenly excited for this year.
Pentiment - This worked incredibility well as an almost companion piece to Misericorde. The games are technically set around 100 years apart from each other, in very different parts of Europe but a lot of the way religion and the world works was helped by what I had learned from Misericorde. It's an Obsidian RPG if that isn't enough of a indicator on the quality idk what to tell you. It's got a nice quality to it that really rounds it out well and while some people may be disappointment by how choices resolve I quite liked the way it mulled in my mind. OH ALSO fuuuuuuck you gotta play this one for the way text is displayed. Truly amazing stuff.
Basilisk 2000 - You might be a bit suprised that Lunacid doesn't show up on this list, I've instead opted to pick one of the other games KIRA released last year, which is Basilisk 2000 - a follow up to Basilisk for the SNES. Basilisk 2000 is an unfinished, unreleased game that was re-discovered by some bloke called Kyle Tubman, who found the build tools for the game and repackaged it into an executable file so folks can poke around on this unreleased project. Except...not really! This is a 100% original game by KIRA! No, what you spend most of your time in B2000 is using the dev engine to poke around the unfinished build of the game and try to...discover why it never came out...?? Tbh I'm still poking around with this one (literally just found a new level TODAY opening the game on a whim). Notepad is required and it's pretty unlikely you'll find 'everything' on your own. It's a really eerie game pocketed with vast emptyness (especially as you start finding some really hidden levels), perhaps made scarier if you're unfamiliar with floating around 3d spces with dev tools...
Persona 3 Portable - It's persona wadda you want me to say? Nah I hadn't prior played any smt or persona game (I had watched my sister play p5 and p5r) but I had always heard good things about p3...so it was on sale and I picked it up. Let me tell you it did not disappoint! Having a female protag is a great bonus and I really enjoyed the added aspects of the main cast brought into this game through her. Interesting playing the shifting point for the series and seeing the roughness of things like social links (stuff that comes very obviously from actual dating sims) and the combat mechanics being sooooo tantalisingly good. It had me hooked.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - MH3 was my first of the series to play and still sits at this very comfortable familiarity. This one is mostly here because I get to play it with my sister, who has a special interest in the series, and neither of us have played this title before so it's been a blast to return to Moga and go through some familiar locals and creatures.
Void Stranger - Aside from the fact I couldn't shut up about this game for (even after) the three solid weeks I spent playing it and digging into ever secret I could puzzle and get my hands into? Yeah this one takes the cake and crown for the year. All time favourite, easily...almost effortlessly.
ZeroRanger - So this is a game made by the same devs of Void Stranger, which I was so impressed by, I quickly ran out and bought this one...even though I'm not the biggest fan of shoot 'em ups lol. Anyway this game rules as well, very fun shmup and apparently a good entry point for the genre. Much love in it to games of the genre as well (which I've discovered now in checking out other stuff...cute references that don't feel trite).
Chrono Cross - Loooooove the battle system in the world, charmed by it's tropical archipelago flavour etc. I actually really like this game, even when it doesn't really meet it's potential make much sense. It's solid enough and got enough good/interesting things that I can like it.
Armored Core 6 - This is probably the biggest title from the year I've got on this list. Holy wowee fuck me this game is awesome. Much like Hi-Fi Rush it feels good to have levels again, especially since you can replay them anytime. Had a blast swapping play between my sister for each level....helped keep a good pace between us and made for some fun moments when one of us meets a boss and the other can replay that level with their own mecha kit.
Guilty Gear Strive - I've play this majority of the time, if only, with sis and it's on here because...well? Some point while we were playing last year it 'clicked' for us. I've struggled with fighting games in the past and can't really understand them but something really did 'click' and suddenly we got it. And it's been a blast to just go toe to toe with sis in this flashy and fun game. Just good times with this one.
MegaMan Legends - One of the neat things I was able to get last year was a psvita....which I proceeded with loading up full of ps1 titles that I've always wanted to play - MML being one of them. I mostly came to this one to check out the art on display but I'm glad I've played it, this is a delightful game. I do need to return to this one but if i have any major complaint about it, it's the bosses. Otherwise the charm oozing out of this game is soooooo good. I love dungeon crawler <3 It also essentially plays like a mecha game, which is heaps fun. Eventually excited to tackle it's sequel sometime this year, hopefully!
CrossCode - Hi, Lea!

Dau are fey of the desert, formed of the mirages that can be found in that environment. The method of their creation is argued, as even those dau who have given a reason provide different explanations, but the most likely source is either a humanoid who dies of dehydration while chasing a mirage has a chance of being reborn as a dau, or that if enough travellers see the same mirage and believe it to be real, it produces a dau. Once born, a dau is a short being with skin the color of sand (exact color dependant on the sand from where it was born), agile but flighty and unfocused.
Each dau born creates an illusionary home for itself in the desert, providing for itself with its ability to make illusions solid. They require very little food or drink, a single meal capable of sustaining themselves for days, so often they'll enjoy as many hedonistic desires as they can fabricate. The oases and caravanserai they create are often quite elaborate, drawing in travellers with great wealth and amenities, the dau leading fantastic parties and elaborate events. However, proper etiquette must be adhered to, and the greatest insult of all to a dau is acknowledging the true nature of any illusion it creates. If its hospitality is breached, the illusions surrounding the visitors become horrific, and the dau taunts and hunts them, either killing them or driving them back into the desert, less whatever supplies and equipment they're unable to find under the cover of its illusions.
Inspired by the Tome of Beasts 1. This post came out a week ago on my Patreon. If you want to get access to all my monster conversions early, as well as access to my premade adventures and other material I’m working on, consider backing me there!

If the target was already drained, it instead increases the condition's value by 1, to a maximum of 2. Tangible Illusion [2 actions] (illusion, primal) The dau touches an illusionary object of less than 5 cubic feet it created with illusory object and transforms it into a real, physical, nonmagical object. The transformation lasts for 10 minutes, after which the object reverts to being an illusion (or vanishes, if the duration of the spell has ended).

Until it saves, it must roll a normal save each time it attempts to move; on a failure, it accidentally  moves to the wrong location (determined at random by the GM). The dau and each of its allies gain a +5 bonus on disengage checks against the target, and can spend a move action to become invisible to all targets that can’t see through the illusion until it moves or makes an attack. The target can give itself a +5 bonus to its save by spending a move action investigating the illusion, or a +10 bonus by spending a standard action (these bonuses do not stack). Mirror Image: 1/battle, as a move action, the dau can create 1d3 illusionary copies of itself. Whenever it is targeted by an attack that rolls a natural odd attack roll, the attack targets one of these illusions instead of the dau, and destroys the illusion. Once all the illusions are destroyed, this effect ends. AC 17 PD 15 MD 17 HP 36

Harry Potter related thoughts that keep me up at night (pt.2)
Fred and George were creeps? Dude the first thing that I thought of when I realized that Ron's rat was Peter Pettigrew, was that the twins could see Peter Pettigrew on the Marauders map. Thus, they could see Peter Pettigrew within the vicinity of Ron every night, and they never thought to mention it???? WHAT! Thats so wrong.
Tumblr media
Dementors, the creatures who destroys people's souls, were the "good ones"? Idk i don't really have much to say... it just confused me, especially as a kid. They're basically killer law enforcement... literally. Isn't the soul sucking literally one of the evilest things that can happen in the wizarding world?
Tumblr media
Leta Lestrange and her place on the Black Family Tree:
Ok this is probably a loophole tbh (i also for some reason can't find the image anymore... strange... )So Leta, in the Harry Potter films, is burned off of the Black Family Tree. There are 2 things wrong with that. 1, aren't girls symbolized as flowers on the family tree? Leta got her own portrait and label that says "Leta". Second, when I looked it up, google says that Leta was burned off of the family tree because she disgraced it by marrying a muggle-born... HOWEVER, in the Fantastic Beasts movies, she was Theseus' fiancée before she dies... From what we know, Theseus was either a Pureblood or Half-blood wizard... AGAIN idk if this was just like- a fan theory that she was burned off of the family tree... I don't remember...
THIS ONE"S REAL: OK so the THING IS... in Fantastic Beasts, Leta dies (sorry for the spoilers) BUT BECAUSE she was the last remaining Lestrange... how the heck did the family line live on??? Like?? WHAT? It's really REALLY possible that there's an entire part of the Lestrange family that isn't mentioned in the stories (again, the Lestrange family has an entire mausoleum), and that's how the family lives on... INTERESTING

Music Monday w/ Multiimoments (part 3)
I just realized that I forgot to post last Monday's music, so here we go!
Crimson Rivers by bizarrestars is one of my favourite fics & there is so much music that enriches the already fantastic story for me.
Here are 9 such songs! See notes below the images (minor spoilers).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(1) The Water Is Fine: Had to start with what has become the unofficial anthem of this fic on TT!
(2) We're in Love: j e g u l u s
(3 & 4) Francesca by Hozier & The River from Daisy Jones and the Six: you hear it too, right???*
(5) What Is A K***** Like You Gonna Do Here? by Zeal & Ardor: applies to a lot of characters!
(6) Vampire by Dominic Fike: this felt like Remus' POV to me
(7) You've Got The Love by Florence + the Machine: w o l f s t a r
(8) Icarus by The Crane Wives: "No one ever thinks to look up."
(9) The Lion The Beast The Beat by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals: this is SO regulus to me.
*IMPORTANT re: 3 & 4 ➡️ I know these fancasts are beloved (including by me), though I want to say I have been hearing disappointing things about the actors (e.g. Tim's insensitive SNL skit) that I do not support! [DM me or google, but this is not a discussion for the comments here, please!]

thoughts on wednesday by tim burton
(a lot of spoilers ahead)
1st of all, jenna ortega was BORN to play wednesday. it was just *chief kiss*, and i’m literally obsessed with her expressions, the way she would twitch the corner of her mouth when wednesday was ‘happy’ was just it!!
gomez and the brother were also so well casted that i was SHOCKED
don’t get me started with tyler!!! i was a sucker for him since scene one and i don’t like how people are coming at him
i genuinely hope his intentions with wednesday were not totally manipulative, but even if they were give the boy a break
he is practically an obscurus from fantastic beasts. the boy grew up without his mother (the only person that could relate to his condition), had his father ignore every attempt he made of fixing things and was living among the normies when he was definitely not
don’t blame him for his “actions” when the principle of the hyde was that he was commanded by someone
i’ll defend my boy and i hope he’ll be okay
the scene of the date tho was perfect, loved them watching legally blonde
also!!! i knew that fucking bitch was the bad guy since the beginning. the principal pointers to me: 1. the super knowledge about plants (i got that the eugene’s flowers on the hospital was a distraction, and the other character that was obsessed with flowers was her), 2. she was a normie teaching the outcasts, it was weird, 3. the psychologist was just too obvious to be it (same with xavier), 3. THE FRANKENSTEIN BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!
her scenes with tyler were DISGUSTING!!! every time she touched him i wanted to throw up
i saw the plot twist coming, but it was well made, i give them that
also, i’m kind of annoyed at how this series is quickly becoming another example of “2 best friends that everyone ships and if you don’t shipp them you’re wrong”
yes i shipp her with tyler, and saying this as a girl who likes girls, you guys are annoying!
(i don’t care about the shipping enid with wednesday, i do care about people acting as if shipping her with guys is completely wrong and out of line)
the bad girl becoming one of the savior besties with an healthy competition in the end is overused. i don’t like it a lot, but i like bianca, so it’s fine
i liked the mayor’s son tho, he was an asshole for 90%, but i liked his chemistry with bianca and think he’s salvageable
i have a question tho, what was xavier connection to tyler and the hyde thing? i get they have a pass, and i don’t know if i missed it, but i was curious af of what happened
i would really like to deepen in the past of morticia with the principal, what was their deal?????
in general is a pretty solid show, i loved it, the visual effects were not the best i guess (tho i’m sure this is tim burton’s doing)

2023 Book Reviews: Genre Romance, Part 1
This is my catch-all for fantasy romances (no I'll never call them romantasies, I hate the portmanteau), SF romances, etc. Some of my favorite genres (which you can tell by how highly rated all of these are :D)
1. One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig: 4/5
Pitch: dark fantasy with sort-of tarot magic and a curse/sickness taking over the land
Review: I had quite a fun time reading this! The world and magic system are very unique, which I really appreciated. The plot is also good, with a couple of twists I wasn't expecting (along with a couple I was due to good foreshadowing!). I probably would have rated this higher except that it's also a romance and I felt very little about that aspect of the story - it just never grabbed me. However, I'll definitely be continuing on - that ending!
2. Baker Thief by Claudie Arsenault: 4/5
Pitch: aro police officer/baker witch "romance" where they have to solve the mystery of the baker's sister's disappearance
Note: Depending on your definition of romance, this may or may not fit on this list, as the book says that it is "meant to reframe romance tropes within non-romantic relationship and centering aromantic characters".
Review: This was very fun, and pretty cute to boot. I enjoyed the plotline, and all of the main characters, although it never really sparked that something extra in me. Although I'm very much in favor of including more aro and ace characters in fiction, I was also under the impression that this was a romance, and it is a very unconventional one, if it is one (as noted above!). A good thing, but I'm very definitely a romance lover, and so I think this isn't really the book (or if it's ever continued, the series) for me! However, I'd definitely recommend this to someone wanting a more aro-friendly relationship in a book, or for someone who just wants to have a fun romp in book form.
3. A Restless Truth by Freya Marske: 4.5/5
Pitch: book 2 in a trilogy; W/W historical fantasy romance that's also about a shipboard murder on a cross-Atlantic voyage
Review: I quite enjoyed this - Violet and Maud are excellent together, and I really liked the way their relationship was left at the end.
Slight spoilers!!!!! Since they'd only known each other six days, it makes sense that Violet isn't ready yet to tell her everything. And yet as someone who tends to fall hard, I appreciate Maud for being pretty much all in, or at least all in to continue. Neither of them have said forever, just "I want to continue", and I really enjoyed that.
Okay spoilers over: The mystery didn't do as much for me, but I was still turning pages quickly to get to the end. Looking forward to seeing how everything wraps up!
4. Half a Soul by Olivia Atwater: 4.75/5
Pitch: historical romance about a fae-touched girl with half a soul and the head of magicians in England
Review: I really enjoyed this - Dora was fantastic, and her banter with Elias was amazing. I loved the way it ended, and the choice at the climax, and the way the mystery was solved. Excellent!
5. Bryony and Roses by T. Kingfisher: 4.5/5
Pitch: T. Kingfisher's take on Beauty and the Beast
Review: Reading this is part of my attempt to get through T. Kingfisher's non-horror backlist (I can't really handle the horror haha). And I really enjoyed her take on Beauty and the Beast - it has a bit of her signature horror, as well as the sardonic, funny, and practical characters I expected. Holly made me laugh so hard. And I loved how much Bryony loved her garden.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @frankenjoly omg thanks i just got home from school i need this
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
I have 57 rn and i still can't believe i have that many fics,, it used to be more than that but i had deleted some of my older fics for an old fandom i was once in
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
127,635 words (and counting hopefully once i get out of this slump)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Right now i mainly write for BSD. I used to write for the fantastic beasts and where to find them fandom from 2018 to the first half of 2020 but i stopped cuz i left (you can still find my fics for that fandom in my ao3 and wattpad profiles)
4. Top five fics by kudos
Bored (BSD) - a little domestic fluff fic feat. Ranpo being perpetually bored while Akiko is busy working
A Night at the Scamander Household (Fantastic Beasts) - wherein the Newt and Tina are awoken in the middle of the night by their youngest son who's unable to sleep
Tattoos and Soulmates (Fantastic Beasts) - newtina soulmate au where you have matching tattoos with your soulmate
Lay All Your Love on Me (or not) (Fantastic Beasts) - watch as Achilles Tolliver tries to get Tina Goldstein's attention and fails (spoiler: she's already taken)
Books, Rain, and You (Fantastic Beasts) - in an effort to get out of the heavy rain, Tina finds herself in a cozy library with an adorable librarian. they bond over books and then some
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Yes, but not always. I like interacting with those who read my fics and seeings their comments just motivates me to write more
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
i mostly write fluff but i have tried my hand at writing angst although i'm not sure if those fics count as that cuz i feel like i don't have the skill to properly convey the angsty feelings for it to be considered angst
but if i had to choose out of all the attempts i made at angst, i'd say If "Happy Ever After" Did Exist, I Would Still Be Holding You Like This and Con Flores (Te Llevaste Mi Tristeza Con Colores)
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
again, i write fluff so basically all of them have happy endings or are just generally happy overall. i can't really pick one of them dasjkgkas
8. Do you get hate on fic?
i hope not... that's literally one of my writing anxieties, especially when i write a fic involving an oc i have for a fandom (like Edogawa Hotaru, for example)
9. Do you write smut?
i think i tried writing once although it wasn't a fanfic. i cringed hard and never tried writing smut for a fic again. but if you guys saw my character ai chats involving my ships-
10. Do you write crossovers?
no
11. Have you ever stolen a fic?
i hope not. i always try to make sure all my works are original, but if i do take inspo from another fic i always make sure to ask
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes! i think i had two or three fics translated some time ago by other people online (with my permission ofc) and that honestly makes me feel so proud??
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no and i feel too shy to do so😭
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
ranposano, obviously (and a genshin rarepair i have that i am a little too afraid to say cuz genshin fandom)
15. What's a WIP you want to finush but probably won't?
so. many. WIPS. please. send me motivation.
16. What are your writing strengths?
never-ending inspiration i guess. i once got a "this is the fic i/we never knew i/we needed" comment on a ranposano fic that i wrote because i had my period and that just made me realize that wow i pull my ideas from literally everywhere
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
procrastination, my inconsistent english grammar, and constantly setting standards that are a little too high whenever i write something
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
i'm fine with it ig? englsih is my second language and i don't usually write full dialogues in another language. i usually only include words in another language but never full dialogues
19. First fandom you wrote for?
believe it or not, i used to write fanfics for the rise of the brave tangled frozen dragons fandom, mainly jelsa (but i never published any of them my 10 year old self was too scared)
20. Favorite fic you've written?

Soo, because I'll otherwise loose my mind, here my ranking for the eight stories (of course, big spoilers follow, also for the endgame)
1. Osvald
This was pretty much a safe card to get into my favourites. A broken science man, who first starts out with wanting to avenge his wife and daughter, but then realises that his daughter is alive and saves her? That's good shit for people with father issues right there.
But what really got me with him was... everything around him. How he slowly warms up to the other travel companions, how he lets other close to him again. In the last travel banter with Partitio he talks about how he realizes that he managed his journey only because of his companions, and how he finally sees the sense behind small talk and. It's so great. He was my starter and even though it was really funny at the beginning how that lone wolf suddenly was surrounded by five children, Temenos and Castii, I could see him lead my squad at the end against Vide. That's what I call character development.
And I know that after the epilogue the first thing he did was run back home, confronted his fear and hugged his daughter. Trust me, I'm Square Enix.
2. Ochette
I'm sorry, but I couldn't put her lower. Ochette's story was so nicely put together - I love how all three legendary Pokémon beasts have separate stories, but one element that unites them all: how humanity destroys nature without reason or remorse. But still Ochette stays strong and kind and has hopes and... God, that was great to see. That moment when she befriended Glacis and the other companion was honestly beautiful.
The only thing that annoys me is the fact that the dark huntress was so... irrelevant at the end. I expected a plottwist around her, something like 'haha, this character from story X was actually her!' but... no. Shes just an evil fanatic who has only one appearance when she gets killed by the other companion. A little bit lackluster tbh.
But yeah, Ochette is my daughter and I would kill for her.
3. Castii
That third chapter. God damnit.
I'm really surprised how much I liked Castii at the end. Once again, family issues and all, but also... her story is so dark. She could save the day, but so many people had to pay for it and it was so brilliant how you could go into the empty village from the beginning (it was even part of the demo) and ask yourself "what the fuck happened here?" before all becomes clear. Its so bittersweet and I'm all here for it.
4. Partitio
I know, his story is not the most... logical one. But sometimes you want to live in an indulgent fantasy where you beat capitalists up and then they see the errors of their ways and where a rich sugar daddy aristocrat gives you 80 billion dollar because you inspired him enough. But yeah, he's just so fun and I love how, even though so many people change throughout OT 2, he always stays the same idealistic optimistic moron who inspires the people around him. And how Ori pretty much confirmed that the reason she saw hope again was because of Partitio? Whoof.
Also my head canon is that Mister Roque and Pepe had something going on while they built Orerush. I mean... come on. Two single men, with no woman by their side but really close, and Partitio even calls him uncle in german? Thats sus right there.
5. Throné
Technically, this story is right up my alley. I don't know what it keeps from being higher up except the fact that the Claude twist came a little bit out of nowhere. But there are so many small scenes that I love, how the girl in Mothers Garden swears revenge and still gets a happy ending, how happy Father is that he still got to be a father (his whole story was fantastic btw), how you're not thrown into Lostseed but travel there throughout her last chapter and then are met with such despair. And yeah, the end was similarly bittersweet as that of Primrose from the first game, what I love. At the end, freedom reeks of blood, but... it was worth it.
6. Agnea
The step up for the fluffy stories from the first to the second game is insane.
But yeah, I talked about it once already, but what makes this story special for me is the journey in her mother's footsteps. When her father gave her her dress at the beginning it nearly teared me up lol.
But yeah, her whole story is just so sweet and cute and anti-capitalistic (she kinda has Karen-energy but in a good way) and how it all tied together at the end with all the people from the different chapters coming together at the festival of graces was great. And this story has easily the most background lesbians (the traveling group, Dolccinea and Victoria...), it's amazing.
7. Temenos
...yeah. This is my biggest unpopular opinion from this game xD
But yeah, what really annoyed me about Temenos' story was, similar to Cyrus' story from the first game, that it tries to be a detective story, but... it's the most predictable story of all lol. From the beginning I was like 'yeah... the sacred guard was responsible, wasn't it?' and it kinda took my investment in that story out of it. Also I like Temenos and Crick, but not as much as most of the fandom, I'm afraid - there was something that didn't click with me, I guess. Even though the Stormhail-Route was still pretty sad ngl. And even though Kaldena was my third to last end boss, she still nearly killed me, so here's that.
8. Hikari
Hikari is really a sad case because his story could have been even more tragic and sad. But he suffers the most from bad writing - Mugen is such an 'evil for the sake of being evil' antagonist while being the stupidest person ever (that moment when he killed everyone because 'they could be vengeful later!' made me literally facepalm) and I still don't understand why Ritsu hates the emperors and their war mongering so much, but then ends up working for the biggest war monger of them all. I lowkey expected him to betray Mugen but... no. He's just vengefulTM and randomly turns good two seconds before dying.
But I liked Hikaris arc and turning the shadow hold into the light hold was a great idea. Generally his first and last chapter were pretty atmospheric and I really grew to like Kazan as a mischievous, but sympathetic ally that his betrayal really stung. Generally, the second game had much better written and more engaging stories than the first, it didn't have any Tressa-like story where I didn't particularly care about anything. But still, Hikari kinda deserves better.
