Nadja's doll can move on her own, and assert herself sexually. Laszlo can stand in the light of the sun for the first time in centuries. Nandor can push himself to his physical limits, while admitting to the softer and more vulnerable reason he wants to do it.
(Colin can both be desired and have a sexual encounter as fucked up as his freaky little heart wants it to be. Honestly, I didn't think I'd say it, but good for him?)
Something something Pride being associated with joyous movement, with power, with authenticity, with freedom.
And Guillermo gets to be flirted with, and courted with a feat of strength, and see his six-foot-something crush loom over him stark fucking naked. Gets to show more vampiric tells and superpowers. And then the sheer gift of just being able to relax afterwards, nothing to be done but enjoy a moment of real joy with the people who matter to him.
Because it could be a cynical vote grab, but Sean genuinely cares about everyone at the parade, and about Staten Island. And believes queer people and immigrants are part of what their home is all about. Sometimes it's okay for everyone to get what they want.
What a joyous episode.

Nandor’s Timeline
WWDITS history/headcanon question because I love history and some things weren’t adding up: In the pilot, Nandor tells us he was a soldier in the Ottoman Empire, which was founded in 1299. We know Nandor was turned in the late 1200s or early 1300s because he tells Jan he’s been a vampire for 700+ years. He was also the leader of a country that would be in present-day southern Iran, and his ghost spoke Farsi. AFAIK the Ottoman Empire never reached Iran.
So this is the current Nandor timeline I’m subscribing to:
Late 1200s Nandor was ruler of Al-Quolanudar, a Persian country, where he had 37 wives and didn’t do much pillaging initially.
Early 1300s he was turned into a vampire soon after the Ottoman Empire was founded. He was exiled from his country, which he says happened because of all the pillaging (in “Citizenship”). Unsure which of those happened first (the turning or the increased pillaging+exile) but we know he needed to grab ancestral soil at some point.
Mid-to-late 1300s and 1400s: He joined the Ottoman Empire as a (vampire) soldier, and that’s how he ended up going west on campaigns and destroying Nadja’s village in Antipaxos. He says he was drunk so I guess he drank the blood of fellow drunk soldiers.
1401: Al-Quolanudar was dissolved, Nandor was already further west at that point so did not hear about this until S1E8.
In the 1500s: The Ottoman Empire conquered and then ruled parts of Hungary - if Nandor was part of that invasion, this could be how his name ended up changing from a Persian form to the Hungarian “Nandor”?
Does this timeline check out? How are other people thinking about this? I’m aware I’m taking this more seriously than I need to, but I enjoy it 😊

it's incredible that tumblr fandom went from DESPERATELY trying to see ANY sort of queer love in the shows we liked, to having shows—high budget, well-made, interesting, mainstream shows staring known actors—that are ABOUT queer love. explicitly, without argument. and just ten years later.
i saw (and reblogged) a post about how GO, ofmd, and wwdits are the new superwholock and i havent stopped thinking about it. cuz i was there, i was in the trenches back in the day. i was there when the writers and actors made fun of us for seeing on screen chemistry and perfect stories to set up romances. they all humored us then shat on us and saw us as a joke. a bunch of weirdo faggy teens that don't think two men can just be friends.
and now look at us. we're seeing the on screen chemistry and it's REAL. it's ON PURPOSE. these ARE romantic stories about queer people. we're not projecting or have wishful thinking... it's TRUE!! it was written and directed and edited and acted that way in earnest. i will take NO SHIT regarding these shows and people's love for them.
and do you know WHY these shows are being made now? these well thought out, feels-real, non-pandering queer stories? it's BECAUSE OF WHAT WE DID ten+ years ago. a lot of queer media never got the green light to be made because execs don't think there's enough of an audience. that more people will dislike the gays than like them. and we've shown them that that's unequivocally untrue. the outcry we had for all those years, the reviews we left, the statements we made, the backlash, it gave show runners ammunition to say "hey. people will watch this. they will like it. let us make it."

Do you guys ever have fandoms-in-law??? Like I'm not a part of the fandom, I've never read it/watched it, but it's so closely associated with some of my fave fandoms that when it's trending it's all over my dash even though I don't even follow the tag???

don't mind me, I'm just thinking about Guillermo de la Cruz going back week after week to say goodbye to his mother, never knowing which time will actually be the last. distracted and selfish and forgetting her birthday because soon it won't matter anymore, taking bites of tamales while he still can, and insisting that he's not afraid, because even when he was terrified he's always known what he needed. his mother telling him faith can guide him, but his guiding star has always been something faith can't touch, and now the love she's offering him burns.
eyes glued to the screen, mind glued to that house, because those are his people. only one of them even knows it, and Guillermo can't even talk to him now, but they're all still his. he says 'solve your own problems' but he still can't stop watching to gauge their solution. Nandor saying 'we don't need you' still hurts more than a thousand farewells to a family that loves him. big changes are scary, and his own blood may be fighting it, but this is what he wants even now. even now. he'll keep going back but it's with his mind on 'goodbye', every single time.

I think it’s fascinating that the original horror of dracula is kinda lost on us because our cultural well has been poisoned. I don’t know any 6-year olds who can’t tell you vampires are EVIL or are unfamiliar with the name dracula.  Reading the first chapter and seeing Johnathan, our beloved, think about asking his new friend COUNT DRACULA for help is comedic! Of course he’s walking into danger. We’re genre aware.
However, also while doing dracula daily, there’s a new kind of horror. Both the prolonged no knowing when the next entry will drop but the sadness and horror of having to sit with the characters and wanting so desperately to give our heroes a metaphorical rosaries to protect them. We know this is a sinking ship full of vampires, we know how dangerous the situation is, how woefully unprepared everyone else is.
Which brings me back to how the dynamic has shifted, and I think unexpectedly so. Originally, dracula’s horror comes from the audience being basically London. He is scary because it’s unnerving to discover what new and terrible calamity is coming. What new powers and murderous feeding will come next? Who exactly are we locked in this room with? Will we make it out alive? But now, the horror stems from the audience being the Transylvanians, desperately longing to catch Jonathan before he gets to the carriage, begging him to turn back now. We are condemned to watch the ship as everyone gets picked off one by one. It’s a different but equally visceral kind of horrorshow.

Hearing people say "if you like OFMD you should watch black sails!" or "if you like wwdits you should watch Interview With The Vampire!"
It's like babes those shows are nothing alike besides they have the same subject matter and are both gay! "Oh you like comedy with a dash of drama? You should watch a harrowing, traumatic show that will have you sobbing your eyes out!!!!"
