I see tons of BatFamily fanworks (fanfiction, fanart, ect) featuring the four robins-Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian-and (sometimes) with Babs as Batgirl. For the record, I think these characters and the fanworks are brilliant. Yet, deep down, I always keep asking "Where is Cass, Steph and Duke?" Especially considering: .Cass, as Batgirl, had one of the best-selling, long-running comic series to star a disabled woman of colour superhero. .Cass predated Damian and the resurracted Jason Todd, appearing in 1999, Jason was resurrected as Red Hood in 2005 and Damian first appearing in 2006. .Steph, as Spoiler, appeared in 1992 as an ally of Batman and Robin (Tim Drake) and a love interest of Tim but would develop as a hero in her own right. .Steph had a very short but unforgettable stint as Robin. .While not as long or commercially successful as Cass's Batgirl run, Steph's turn as Batgirl was still widely acclaimed. .As a young kid, Duke's intelligence and puzzle-solving inspired Batman to defeat the Riddler during Year One, .Duke would join the antifascist vigilante youth known as "The Robins", helping strike a blow against criminal gangs and play apart in taking down the Court Of Owls. .Duke eventually became the Signal, staring alongside Batman in several acclaimed storylines from All-Star Batman, Detective Comics and Batman And The Outsiders.
I still don't understand. Why does the BatFam fandom know very little about Cass, Steph and Duke?

Whenever I see posts about how Encanto fans want to see Dolores and Antonio wear more Black hairstyles in future works…okay first of all I feel utter euphoria how dare you…but second of all those posts always always ALWAYS leave out Camilo and it makes me both happy because Camilo is overrated and doesn’t need to be the center of everything and frustrated because it feels like they ignore or disbelieve the fact that Camilo is Afrolatino just like his siblings like…just because Camilo has light skin, looser curls, and green eyes doesn’t make him less Black than Dolores and Antonio, if they can wear cornrows he can too, but then again it’s the fact that he sports these features that make him more palatable to non-Black fans who want to ignore his Blackness so as to make him their Latin lover and sexualize and fetishize him, like let’s not pretend if he looked like Antonio he’d be anywhere near equally as popular, and it just makes me…grrr…it shouldn’t be so damn complicated confusing but it is.

Character: I think boys are pretty
Fandom: oh! They're gay! That's canon!
Different character: I have no interest in romance or sex. I don't understand it. Relationships confuse me. They seem pointless to me. I have no desire to be in a romantic or sexual relationship. I am an aromantic asexual.
Fandom: well, I guess you can interpret them as aroace...I don't see it though.

Wish more people understood the difference between "shipping this aro character because i want to explore their aromanticism and where they stand in the spectrum" and "shipping this aro character because i don't care about their orientation".

You know what? Im breaking my silence. Im TIRED of people missing Jess’ character on purpose. Like, everyone can use context clues and fill in the blanks for every other character but somehow Jess is the only one taken at face value? Jess is being seen as a cold, detached, mean bitch by fans but I cannot determine whether we even watched the same movie.
Let’s address the elephant in the room, because she is a black woman who is NOT a mammy character, people criticize her harsher. Jess was MORE than Miguel’s “lackey”. She had her own thoughts and opinions. She definitely had her own personality and feelings about the entire situation. She lowkey stalled time to give Gwen chances to fix her mistakes.
If Jess was as cold as Miguel and such a “bitch”, she would’ve left Gwen the first time. Let’s not forget that Miguel was fully about to leave Gwen with her own father holding her at gunpoint, JESS vouched to bring Gwen under her name. Jess put her OWN position at risk to help Gwen and it required that she do her job accordingly. Jess made the boundary VERY clear, she is NOT Gwen’s mother. She is NOT her friend. I seen people argue that “Jess’ maternal instincts” should’ve kicked in to protect Gwen” but fully ignoring that Jess HAS A FAMILY! Jess is PREGNANT with her OWN child. Her instincts DID kick in and she chose her dimension with her family in it!
Jess was stuck in a rock and a hard place. She obviously wanted to help Gwen (considering she brought her in at the cost of her own position) but UNFORTUNATELY, GWEN messed up. Gwen saw Miles and that ultimately led to Spot escaping. You can love these characters and acknowledge that every character had their OWN thoughts and motivations that led to fuck ups. It’s not right to try to make Jess sound worse than the man who fuckin replaced his dead self out of grief, was about to leave a teen at gunpoint, and had an entire society of people chase a teenager who wanted to save his dad.
Don’t get me started on the “she’s fighting crime while pregnant argument” because we can accept superpowered people but NOT the possibility that their bodies are more resilient. NOT TO MENTION THAT PETER B HAS A WHOLE BABY ON MISSIONS???? Like, no one is calling him a bad father so what’s different with Jess? Miguel was mean as fuck to Miles upon meeting but Jess doing her JOB is considered being “mean”.
Then the “I didn’t see her enough to connect with her” is fair until everyone can somehow create entire {TERRIBLE} mischaracterizations of Hobie, Pav, and Peni who (arguably) had just about the same amount of screentime. She also shares traits with every other spider person with being snarky and quick-witted while being completely grounded. She’s literally one of the spider people that Miguel fully trusts but somehow the fandom erases her and goes “He loves Peter B and Lego Spidey🤪🤪”
Like, it’s crazy how people find it so easy to erase Jess and Margo (Spiderbyte) in fanworks for things they easily dismiss from other characters and it’s feelin like misogynoir. Like, Margo and Hobie served the same purpose with deciding to go against Miguel for Miles, yet only Hobie and Gwen gets that credit.
AND THEN THE MANY EXCUSES WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING! People keep hating on Jess/Miguel because she’s “obviously pregnant and married” but go right around and ship Miguel with Peter B. Same with Margo/Miles because it’s a bunch of “Miles and Gwen are obviously endgame” ANDDDD???? Since when did every ship HAVE TO be canon in order to be a ship? It’s especially crazy because I BARELY EVER see those comments on Miles/(Peni, Pav, or Hobie) or have no problem with having all the boys huddled around Gwen. The double standard is glaringly obvious.
In conclusion, some of you mfs dont deserve ATSV.

Hey MDZS fandom. I want you guys to be careful interacting with this person.
Tumblr media
If you don't already know, Chinese people have had a long history with cultural erasure when it comes to taking on English-language names. It started with imperialism, and continues as a way to "assimilate" and avoid mockery of our language in western countries.
For Chinese diaspora like myself, it's another form of racism we face, to the point where some of us are reclaiming our names in everyday life. Here's an article about this movement happening across Asian diasporas in the United States -- just to name one instance out of many.
The responses to this post reflect that:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can see that my comment assumed "good faith." However, OP deleted these comments and blocked me. (That didn't stop other people from calling it out as well, though I have to assume that if OP was so offended by my comment, the next few people will receive the same treatment.)
Tumblr media
I honestly didn't like whipping up the diaspora statement -- that I wrote with multiple Chinese diaspora fans of MDZS, all of us hailing from multiple different countries and backgrounds, our ancestry coming from completely different regions of China -- because it meant that we were encountering another microaggression.
If you ever wonder why MDZS and danmei fandoms in general seem to be so bereft of Chinese diaspora voices, that's absolutely because of these microaggressions: Someone makes a joke, writes a story, writes some meta, that is culturally ignorant at best, offensive and harmful at worst, and when we gently correct them, explaining why it's racist, the person in question shuts us down, dismisses us, gets defensive, or worse.
Regardless of where you are -- fandom, social media, on the street, at work, at school -- as long as you are interacting with other people, your words matter and affect other people. That includes being racially offensive, even if you didn't intend to be. It's how you respond to the people you've insulted that reveals your character, how willing you are to be complicit in their mistreatment.
My rule of thumb has always been this -- if multiple people, including those of the culture you've just made a microaggressive joke about, find it unfunny, racist, or harmful, then you listen. Dismiss or ignore them, then yes -- you absolutely are racist.

mischas dating both noel and talia
talia and noel are not dating (because noel is gay, not mspec.)
but they do have mutual respect for eachother. for putting up with mischa.
mischa just loves his boyfriend who he occasionally finds in a dress and heels dancing around to his own song. and his fiancee who he occasionally finds crying to the song he wrote about her.
anyways ^_^

"[Canon Bisexual Character] should have been [gay / lesbian] so they ended up with [Same Sex Character]!"
Wow. That's so interesting! Because there is literally no reason you can't ship that bisexual character with the same sex character as is. No one on earth is stopping you. Bisexual people are attracted to the same sex. You can ship away without changing a single thing about them!
But you keep insisting they should have been lesbian or gay so they could date the same sex and... gosh. It almost seems like... you just hate that they are bisexual!
Huh. Fascinating.

Let me get up on my soapbox rq.
STOP ERASING BLACK CHARACTERS FROM FANDOMS 👏👏👏👏
I see those goddamn writers replacing Gaz with Konig and I swear my blood turns hotter than the equator in July. KONIG AINT EVEN IN THE DAMN CAMPAIGN?!?! How ironic, the only black character gets erased and replaced with a white one. Also all the Gaz fics I’ve read always has him cheating or being a druggie. I smell stereotypes. Why do we as a society feel the need to erase black people from our culture? Not to mention, erasure of all POC’s. For example, in law and order SVU, every one of the damn Latino/latina characters get their fucking lives destroyed and go to jail and whatever, but the white girls commit felonies on girls trips and get their wrists slapped and go back to “desk duty”. How fucking blind are we as a society?? The erasure is actually wild to me.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

feliciafancybottom replied to your post "angelsadvocate96 replied to your post "I am…"
I saw one earlier about Michael setting such a fine example for straight boys who go through a 'phase' of crushing on men. Yeahhh. Michael "No closet can hold me" Sheen… Michael "Happy Bi" Sheen… Michael "I set David on fire fairly regularly" Sheen… Michael Sheen who did one sex scene with Stephen Fry 27 years ago and hasn't stopped talking about riding him like a bucking bronco ever since. Is that the right Michael Sheen? If so, I think someone needs to tell him that he's the Sheriff of Straighttown now because I don't think he got the memo.
@feliciafancybottom Oh my God. "A phase"...yeah. That's always the other one, isn't it. Never mind that he had a crush on John Taylor when he was a teenager, and then a crush on Jude Law during Wilde when he was almost 30, and now an overwhelmingly obvious crush on David in his 50s. Nope, definitely just a phase.
I just...I genuinely do not understand how anyone thinks that the man who made that "closet" tweet, who christened himself "THE southern pansy" during Pride Month a few years ago, who said he considers one of his characters (Roland Blum) to be pansexual, and who has been telling us exactly who he is in every way possible for multiple years now...is completely straight. And to then have the gall to dismiss Michael's sexuality by further referring to it as a "phase" is the peak of bi erasure.
On one positive note, I will say that "Sheriff of Straighttown" made me snort, and I'm now picturing Michael and David roleplaying that with Michael as the "straight" Sheriff and David as the seductive "saloon girl" who leads him astray, so thank you for that. Haha. Good times...

So the creator of Supernatural is now out there saying everything I've been saying about how the show isn't just Sam and Dean, the show has been about their family too, and why it's disheartening that all those characters were absent from the finale due to covid reg cuts. Because the show isn't just the brothers it's about family.
Eric Kripke just acknowledged the wrongness of dumping found family from the series finale and you're laughing.
Every stan who said we were wrong to care about found family on spn and we were crazy to say spn isn't just about the brothers, every stan who tried to gaslight us about the fact that found family was supposed to be part of the finale, and that they belonged there because it would serve the story, every stan who tries to hide and excuse their hate with "because it's about the brothers," every stan who virtue signals about "platonic bonds uwu" but they obviously only care about the 2 brothers and no one else is important so get over it.
Every last one of them just tripped over the series creator and fell on their face. Not like they'll ever acknowledge it or care. But that's what just happened.
This anti found family narrative from certain stan accounts started before Destiel became a major thing, fyi.
I've loved this part of the series since the very beginning, and if you love found family on spn you do wind up with deeply stupid hateful people attacking you and trying to gaslight you about spn and trolling you just for paying attention to the actual show. The whole "hellers are so delusional" trope in fandom where some stans try to pin the problems on ships and shippers? Complete bs on several levels, more than you might think--because they did it to found family, all along, and still do it.
SPN is about Sam and Dean and their family. It's about love in all forms. Anyone saying otherwise missed the point of SPN.
