UUUGGGGGHHHH thanks anon, now I can't stop thinking about Melissa and the Sherrif staring down at this old, faded photograph of Theo, Scott and Stiles as kids and just feeling really sad and melancholy about it, and then Scott and Stiles actually show up and see the photo on the table and is like "who's that with us?" and then they realize and it's like "that can't be theo, that kid has a crooked nose and buck teeth and freckles and the theo of today doesn't", and then they work it out, and then LIAM shows up and the events probably follow the same vein of "who's that other kid?" and then he works it out faster than the others because come on, liam knows theo no matter what he looks like, and freaks out even more than the others, just utterly horrified because?? they did what to a child?? and he no doubt calls theo in a hurry and theo rushes over all worried and ready for trouble and Liam just shoves the photo in his face and is like "care to explain this?" and first of all, theo probably wouldn't even recognise himself, and then is just like 'oh yeah i forgot i used to look like that, how embarrassing, what's the big deal?' and everybody else thinks that it's a VERY BIG DEAL

So I’m not sure this was your intention, but your ask did lead to me entirely plotting out a short fic covering this idea, so if nothing else: thank you for that!

🐚: do you like or dislike surprises?

in general, yes! tbh it's been my dream for a long time to have someone throw me a surprise birthday party cause i feel like it would be so awesome. i think surprises can be such a fun way to show that you love and understand someone, but i also think it's super important to make sure that you're respecting people's boundaries when planning surprises. in reading fic, i always love a good plot twist, as long as it's not an untagged major character death or something massively triggering.

🥤: recommend an author or fanfic you love

i literally have over 1200 fics bookmarked so it's so hard for me to pick even a couple fics to recommend so i'm just gonna recommend some of my favorite authors. for thiam, my absolute favorite is @eneiryu, who writes the most beautiful incredible post canon fics i've ever read in my life and has written genuinely some of my favorite fics of all time. also for thiam, but with some really good merlin fics too, is @istalria. if you haven't read their thiam brainrot series, do it right now. @attempted--eloquence writes the most beautiful and poetic shit i've ever read in my life, i have in fact literally cried reading more than one of their fics. also thiam: @theoceanismyinkwell, @raekensarcher, @inabottlelikelightning, @chasing-chimeras, @honeyscapes, and @fallingforboys are all absolutely incredible. also to round out the rest of my most-read ships, for firstprince i 100% recommend @clottedcreamfudge, @kiwiana-writes, @hypnostheory, and @railmedaddy (who also writes amazing schitt's creek and 911LS stuff!) a recent fave of mine has also been @sighonaraa who writes the literal best ted lasso fics EVER

🍄: share a headcanon for one of your favorite ships

okay one of my main headcanons for thiam (obviously, since i literally wrote an entire fic about it) is that in the elevator scene, theo heard liam's heart skip when he said he wouldn't die for him, so he fully knew he was lying but didn't say anything because he knew it wasn't the right time. totally different ship, but i also headcanon that alex and henry get tattoos in each other's handwriting post canon, probably of their favorite lines from one of the emails or a line of poetry they both love as a way of reclaiming something that was stolen from them

theo, he's prideful prior to his time in the skinwalker prison. if someone had saved him right as he was being taken, someone would've had to been hurt. i think kira would've been pushed out of the way or someone would've taken the sword out of her hands before rushing to theo and dragging him out of the pit.

let's say this was liam.

liam, who had never had anything good to say to theo, snatches kira's sword out of her hands and rushes towards theo. let's say he tosses it aside as he tries to drag him out of the pit.

he knows tara isn't real, so he doesn't try to harm her, just fight against her supernatural and undead strength. i think tara leaves scratch marks on theo's legs as he grabs onto liam and tries to pull himself up.

i think the skinwalker pit stays open. i think it stays open until someone falls into it.

i think scott has to run towards the pit to grab the sword before it tips over into the pit.

i think he yells. i think, for the first time, he yells at liam. why would he want to save someone who he had assisted in killing scott? the very same person who broke the pack?

i think liam pushes theo behind him, but doesn't fight back. i don't think he tries to say anything.

but he does think it.

i said that i wanted to save you, somehow. and this is how. i want to save you from yourself, from feeling guilty about sending someone to someplace none of us know anything about, because you're such a good person. you're so empathetic, you'll feel the pain, even if you don't feel anything but rage right now.

liam doesn't fight back. he waits until everyone has had their turn to yell at him, he waits until they leave, one by one, and leaves him with theo, who isn't healing.

but the scratches—they took away theo's extra powers, josh's and tracy's. it's just theo, and they both know that it'll stay that way.

liam asks theo if he has anywhere to go. theo says no. of course he doesn't. he never had.

begrudgingly, liam takes theo and walks him to his home. he thinks about how hayden probably broke up with him during the arguments—he spaced out halfway through malia's rant.

they don't talk.

theo doesn't ask, liam doesn't answer.

they just... are.

theo makes a silent pact to protect liam. from everything. for the rest of his life.

because no one had ever done such a kindness for him, especially not if they didn't want something in return.

but he doesn't want to be better. he wants to kill for liam, save his life a hundred times over, because that's what liam did for him, despite what had happened between them before.

he'll kill for liam. he'll kill for anyone liam wants him to protect.

liam later realizes this, as the months pass by, and tries to help theo to gain some independence. liam guesses he hadn't had any independence since before he had met the dread doctors.

theo takes a long time to better himself. longer than in canon. he has his pride, he has his strength, he has his resilience, he has his cunning, and it takes him a very long time to give up his evil.

after all, the doctors said that true evil can only come from what was truly good, and if theo was an ordinary evil, that means that he always had been.

liam tries to get theo to see the good in himself, even though liam's struggling to find it on his own. he can't see the good in theo—at least, he can't express it. he tries his hardest to get his mind to work, to see beyond the facade theo had crafted over ten plus years, so whatever he can see, theo could probably see.

and i think it takes a very long time.

when they make one of the guys in an mlm effeminate. this goes for specifically towards mpreg and abo. this is no hate towards effeminate men. i’m talking about how in order to make sense of an mlm dynamic, there are fic writers who will choose one from the pair to be more “girl-like” and it’s typically the leaner one. 

V - If you could write the sequel (or prequel) of any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

hmmmmm idk

maybe a prequel to You Only Live Once written by @storiesforsomeone bc i love that fic so much and i think it’d be fun to maybe see more of tiny Merlin when he worked for the Dragon

but tbh i wouldn’t touch them. idk if i’d do them justice

Z - Major Character Death-do you ever write/read it? is there a character whose death you can’t tolerate?

oh dear, uh, me and mcd have a complicated relationship. love her, but also despise her. 

idk if i can write character death in my fics. i would be more upset bc they’re my little babies that i’ve latched on to since i saw them on screen. i would write character deaths for OCs tho lol they’re free game

i will read one-shots with mcd. will not read mcd if it’s a multi-chapter fic bc i will get attached and i will be inconsolable later. however, if i am assured that one of my favorite characters or ships won’t die, i’ll read. even the temporary character death tag will have me reading the most gut-wrenching and heartbreaking pics if i know my babes will come out of it alive (maybe not ok but alive).

basically, i need that reassurance that the ending will be a positive one

for characters i can’t tolerate dying? well, wish i could say arthur but the show beat us to it lol, so every christmas all i get is gifs upon gifs of him dying (spoilers, i guess?). does wonders to the heart.

@eneiryu literally everything they write is just *chef’s kiss* i am in love with their characterizations of Theo and Liam. sobbed like a baby when i read ‘built a ship in the morning but the hull’s worn through’ ended bc i loved it so much. reread that 3 times

@theoceanismyinkwell always a slay. saved so many of his fics. doing a reread of regression to the mean and OH MY GOD T^T just as beautiful as the 1st read

@yikeshereiam have not recovered from you top gun au, babe (everybody should read it btw) really love how you write these idiots so well and the frustration from poor communication is beautiful.

O - How do you begin a story? with the plot or the characters?

mostly characters i think

with my dr geyer fic that began bc i wanted to explore characters. the plot was already given to me, i just expanded on dynamics that jeffy man ignored. and tbh my merlin fic, i just wanted to give Merlin a magic friend. someone who wouldn’t die after 1 episode or leave when they both realize they have opposing views or whatever. i wanted to give Merlin a friend and, damnit! a friend he shall have!

however with my og wip, that’s neither plot nor character. i began with the world. then characters then themes then plot.

I haven't been reading much lately and have a bad time remembering specific authors. My object permenance for people is... non-existant. I often forget that I have family and a half-sister because I don't actually interact with them at all really. Authors that I do remember off hand are @eneiryu and their ability to casually make a living breathing world in their fics. @manonisamelon for previously mentioned heart destruction. @li0nh34rt for being one of the first people to prop me up in fandom and make it a positive experience. I'm open to suggestions on fics people think I should give a shot though.

V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Does the Teen Wolf movie count? That's basically just Jeff's fanfic, right? I'm not sure this is something I've ever thought about or had an urge to do. Maybe in the future or if the author asked me?

This was a far harder ask than I thought it would be. First, I had to list the ones that I would consider my favorites, as I'm ridiculously critical of my own work. But here we go, in chronological order of completion:

Army of Ghosts: For as much as I have criticisms of the character and his partisans in the fandom, it might be weird that I choose a story in which Stiles is without-a-doubt the primary focus and Scott literally dies, but this story still hits resonant emotional chords with me.

Strawberry Moon: I started this crossover with Hannibal on a whim, and it turned out to be very satisfying to write, mostly because it allowed me to discover my delight at exploring the consequences of the original series in post-canon.

All Our Yesterdays: This was my first major work focusing on a non-canon romantic relationship, urged on by a close friend. The relationships just clicked in it.

No Better Tomorrow: Season 6A was the least satisfying of Teen Wolf's seasons (though not the most enraging) because I felt it never found a way to grapple with its central conceit. Rewriting it proved that my initial emotional reaction was correct.

Disaster Recovery: I have done a lot of defensive writing -- which I define as addressing and refuting botched fandom transformations. The one that I felt that was the most clearly successful yet the most creative was my defense of Alan Deaton.

Hopefully, if someone asks me again in a few years, I'll have just as much trouble deciding!

9. Recommend something that you really enjoyed in 2020.

(I’m tagging a few authors in this answer, please feel free to ignore me! I just want to gush about your amazing works).

This is tough! I enjoyed so many things!! Especially if we’re talking fanfic, since 2020 is when I got into Harringrove and have read so many excellent fics in it.

Soooo…. I guess the first fic I read that got me into the fandom was dried up, half full by @lymricks. I think I’ve read that fic at least ten times. But really, anything by her is amazing. Also, I absolutely adore when the bones are good by @un-buttoned. Again, everything I’ve read by her is fantastic! But there are so many good writers in this fandom – everything I’ve read by @passivenovember, I’ve loved. In 2021, I’m planning on reading As certain dark things are to be loved by @thursday-knight, which I’ve heard absolutely amazing things about!! I’ve read way shorter fics by him and they’ve all been amazing. 

For Teen Wolf, anything by @eneiryu . I found their fics after I finished season 6 and have read almost all of them. But I started with i know all sorts of things i don't believe and have read it at least three times. Their characterization and plot is just phenomenal. Also, the way they just publish 50k+ fics all at once is so amazing. 

I only recently started reading Black Sails fics and I’ve really enjoyed so many. But I loved the straight walk home by @vowel-in-thug. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve read by them, but I just love the au they created for this fic.

14. What do you want to do more of next year?

I already answered this one! But there are so many things I want to do more of in 2021 that I’ll answer again. I’d like to be more active on tumblr – sharing headcanons and snippets. I’m really shy and introverted, so I’d like to try to push myself outside of my comfort zone.

6, 7, 9, and 10 for the 2020 fandom asks!

6. Did you have any new ships this year?

Yes! For reading, which is what I mostly do: Liam/Theo (Thiam) from Teen Wolf! Max/Anne Bonny and Flint/Silver from Black Sails! For writing (and this was my first year writing anything!), I helped @coffeeandchemicals write a Harringrove fic (pull me in close and let me hold you in) and I wrote a Hermione/Pansy fic (the curtains close on this idyllic scene).

7. What character did you relate most to this year?

Oooo this is a tough one. For writing, I felt like I most related to Hermione - I liked getting inside her head and trying to figure her out or imagine a universe with her in it. For reading, this is more tough. I find that I can relate to a lot of characters depending on how they are written! I’ll have to think on this more!

9. Recommend something that you really enjoyed in 2020.

Another tough one! 2020 was a difficult year for sure (and I know difficult for many of us) but I definitely got back into reading fanfic this year (thank you @coffeeandchemicals) for some escapism. I read a lot of fanfic from a bunch of different fandoms and there are some absolutely amazing writers out there!

After finishing Teen Wolf, I really enjoyed EVERYTHING that I’ve read by @eneiryu! Their writing, stories, and characterization just pull me so much! I started with the series we know all sorts of things that we don’t believe, which was absolutely AMAZING (cannot recommend enough)! I also really, really enjoyed constructed a world from the scars on our hands.

I plan on reading more Harringrove in 2021 and I might be biased, but I really enjoyed @coffeeandchemicals‘s you just happened to have a claymore lying around?.  But I am looking forward to reading more Harringrove in the future!

10. Share something that you learned in 2020.

Oh, dear. I don’t know if I want to go waxing poetic about all the mistakes that I made in 2020! It was a tough year (how many times can I use that word in one post?). I think, for me, 2020 was about learning to accept reduced productivity with myself. I had all these goals and ambitions last January and with everything that went on in 2020, I realized that I couldn’t complete everything that I had hoped and I needed to be okay with that. That is something that I am still learning.

I also struggled with assertiveness this year and standing up for myself, but I am realizing that these are important things to be able to do (so I am resolving to try and have more backbone in 2021).

Also, sleep is so important. (I mean, I knew this already, but 2020 burnout just made that so much more real).

So, there’s been a great deal of self-reflection in 2020 that hasn’t always given me the best view of myself, but I don’t want to stagnate, so it’s important!

My stupid little hc is after everyone meets up in the animal clinic after the pack "left" in 6x15,  they have their meeting about wtf they're gonna do, and it's not until after and they're filing out of the room someone realises Theo straight up fell asleep against the wall. Like that guy was not getting his eight hours anyway in his truck and then he was shot up, kidnapped and tortured for an unspecified amount of time, arrested for a murder he didn't do (for once) and then had to help deal with the sheriffs station whole sitch like I know his ass was EXHAUSTED constantly

(The pack collectively made him go down for like a full forty-eight hours of being unconcious not long after that because someone threw smth at him and he tried smacking it out of the air instead of catching it, missed, and just stared at it broken on the floor for ten seconds before yelling at Liam to shut up (homie was in the next room not even talking))

Not stupid at all! In fact, I am now very tempted to write it…

…at some unidentified future point where I have rediscovered my time to write. 😭

(But in all seriousness, I think I’ll give it a shot at some point, if you don’t mind!)

37: promote one of your own "deep cut" fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). what do you like about it?

okay so i really haven’t written many fics but i was super proud of this one, you weren’t mine to lose. it’s a buddie fic loosely based on ted and alexis’s storyline in season 4 of schitt’s creek, it’s like 6k words, and it’s definitely one of the angstiest things i’ve ever written but it has a happy ending! i had so much fun with it and it’s definitely not one of my more popular fics so i’m promoting it again

40: do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

oh i LOVE rereading fics. i have to really love a fic to reread it a bunch of times, and a lot of times i just reread my favorite parts over and over and skip the parts that make me sad. i’ve probably reread every thiam fic that @eneiryu has written because all of them are incredible. a lot of times when i’m not feeling adventurous i’ll just scroll through my bookmarks and reread my favorites

“So... that’s it. You’re all done here?” Stiles had tried to keep his voice neutral as he leant his back onto the wall, placing one foot on it to balance him.

“Yeah. I sent all my stuff ahead. I doubt Cora will unpack for me though,” Derek told him.

“No, I doubt it. She’s probably too busy running naked through the woods,” Stiles shuddered.

“Oh my god, do you have to?” Derek had grimaced. “That’s my sister.”

“Sorry! I’m not thinking about her naked I swear,” Stiles protested, holding his hands up.

Derek had cocked an eyebrow at him.

“I’m not lying! Feel!” Stiles yanked on Derek’s arm until his hand popped out of his pocket and he’d dragged him closer, placing Derek’s palm over his heart.

Derek had made a soft sound of surprise, but he’d allowed the manhandling and he crowded in closer to Stiles.

Stiles hadn’t thought it through because the second Derek’s hips were inches from his and Derek’s stupid, lovely face was all up in his, his heart had begun pounding erratically.

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Something about supernatural senses (especially scent) is just fun in general. I like seeing it used in stories and like using it myself.

U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

First, I don't read enough, probably. That said these three have written fics that when asked, I always think back to:

eneiryu ("hope the winter goes easy on you") the casual world building here is just superb

@inabottlelikelightning ("when i watch the world burn, all i think about is you") it's so easy to see the pack doing exactly this after a big fight

@flyde ("Freed" and "Right Here") there's a lot of building emotion and intention in these stories that definitely left a mark

Bonus: @thecenturiestrickle ("Born Green We Were to This Flawed Garden") has a fic that made me reconsider my initial dislike of ABO content, though whether he considers that a compliment or not remains to be seen. lol

W: Do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?

I do like specific prompts more, even though I usually don't go down the path of that prompt it tends to give a better picture of what the person would like to see in the story, so that I can still provide that intention even if it's not to those exacting details.

That is to say, I don't dislike general prompts, it's just easier to disappoint the person providing it by going in a direction they didn't intend at all.

A Peek Inside: Liam walked the halls of Beacon Memorial Hospital.  It wasn't that long ago that it was a battleground and not a place for the sick and injured to heal.  Memories of those times, memories of hunters killing supernaturals, memories of the Riders, memories of the chimera and the Dread Doctors pull him to wander the halls.  He's not a patient though he would garner a little less attention if he put on one of the hospital gowns.  The lights were dimmed, something the hospital did either to save money or remind some of the more active patients that it was indeed nighttime.  He moved down one hall to the next, walking up the stairs and repeating the process until he makes it to the roof.  Then he hopped into the elevator and repeated.  He was making sweeps of the hospital, but it wasn't from any present issue but his worry over his stepfather.  Doing sweeps in the preserve was one thing but it was almost too easy for the pack to forget that things attack the hospital regularly and Melissa and Dr. Geyer were right in the line of fire.  That brought him to the halls, but his mind was a million miles away as he wandered to the morgue
