Feelings I didn't realise I DIDN'T miss till I was stuck living with them again: being constantly on eggshells because if I breathe too loudly/in a certain way it will be taken as disrespect even if I was just inhaling air.

Being two degrees of separation from a serious mental breakdown from the collective fuckery of my shitty situations all crashing down on my shoulders and still having to tiptoe around him and be HIS safety blanket because "uwu I can't deal with this shit rn why are you so difficult uwu"

Important context: THEIR cat got sick, THEY lost his insurance documentation which meant they couldn't claim for it till after the fact so ME had to pay 200 bucks so the family cat didn't die of a preventable infection because THEY couldn't adequately take care of a single celled amoeba without killing it nevermind an actual living, breathing, other being. HE was too pussy to medicate his own fucking cat so ME had to get bitten and scratched giving him meds 2x a day for a week and deal with kitty tantrums because he had to be on 24/7 obs for 1.5 of those days (not the cat's fault, obviously. But yes abso-fucking-lutely my parents' faults for ignoring my warnings about letting him 1) Freeroam whenever/wherever because they're too lazy to clean and maintain a litter box so "he won't pee in there he only goes OUTSIDE D'':" AND 2) letting him eat shit he kills in the street because "he's got an immune system, he'll be fine" BRUH YOUR CAT ALMOST DIED. HE WAS NOT FINE

Also incase anyone was wondering how my month is going: though I could finally gtfo at the end of the month, went to take some stuff back ahead of time only to discover that a damp problem in my bathroom which the social housing authorities kept ignoring despite my complaints has spread mold through my ENTIRE APARTMENT and ruined ALL OF MY FURNITURE. YEAH, EVERY LAST PIECE OF FURNITURE I OWN.

Which HE then had a meltdown over because you know, it's not like HIS furniture got trashed and HE has to keep sleeping on a couch less than a foot away from a woman who emotionally, physically, psychologically AND financially abused him since childhood because he had NOWEHERE ELSE TO GO and who now has to stay there INDEFINITELY until social housing gets their head out of their ass and decides to address my request/complaint (it took them 3 years, and then 18 months (and counting) to evict tenants that physically assaulted me BTW for reference) /s

Elven System

I recently got diagnosed with OSDD, so here is a little info post about it. (Forgive me if I get some of the terminology wrong, I'm new to this!)

I am a 4-part age regression system. We are all memory-sharers, but hold different responsibilities/personalities. We are also all autistic, but showcase symptoms differently.

I tag some, but not all, posts with the alter's name, especially if it's specific to them and their interests.

Here is a little introduction to the alters.

Elf

20 years old currently. They/them. Host/core.

Elf is the host alter, so they are almost always fronting or co-fronting. They are in the process of emotional healing (which is how they found out about their OSDD in the first place!!). They hold most of the body/society responsibilities (eating, going to class/work, etc). They like writing and art. Most of this blog is from their POV, so I won't usually tag them.

Sam

14 years old. He/him.

Sam is the trauma holder and harbors a lot of anger as well. He uses humor as a coping mechanism. He is also very into music, with his favorite band being Twenty One Pilots (blurryface/trench era specifically), though he also likes folk punk, alt, and hard rock. He is transmasc. Sam fronts when the other alters are stressed or tired. He's sort of like the protector I think? He's a pretty cool guy, if perpetually tired. He's the only(ish) alter in the system to have romantic desires, and he mainly likes men/masc folks. Resting bitch face type autism, but mainly just wants to listen to music and vibe.

Ellie

6-8 years old. She/her.

Ellie is the innocent one of the system. She is the most outwardly noticeable personality change; she speaks in a "baby voice" and her neutral expression is different from the other alters'. She cannot mask autism worth shit, so she is constantly stimming vocally or physically. She's usually very excited and happy, though she sometimes fronts when other alters are overstimulated and can take on that anxiety. She is always ready to infodump about anything and everything, especially our special interests. She loves typical "kid's stuff" like stuffed animals, dinosaur chicken nuggets, etc. The rest of the system is very protective of her and will not let her front unless they all feel that it is safe for her to do so.

Dog

????. It/its.

We started calling it Dog as a joke ("I got that dawg in me") and then the name kinda stuck. Dog rarely fronts and is in the background mostly. It's a "thing" alter, representative of the space in between alters, kind of when we're dissociating and don't really feel like a person/having a body. It's basically like a rabid animal, like those reaction image stick figures covered in blood, basically. It holds all the "nonhuman" emotions/feelings, sort of the instinctual stuff if that makes sense. Dog basically goes batshit over stuff that it's interested in, and is the "source" of hyperfixations. There's also like an inside joke between the alters that Dog is the source of songs getting stuck in our head, because it's just constantly playing music.

D&D OC art, my changeling unmasked and as a drow with his former elven partner, as well as dracula(? Astarion bite fanart(? because I have a whole timeline with him and a whole separate timeline with gale.

Last year started alright, I graduated with an Associates degree of arts before I decided to take a break from school because of burnout, and commissions were going really well, but as is social media, it can burn people out and if you make the wrong comments people will get angry at you.

That's always a learning experience and I don't expect to be able to handle those emotions, I'm only 20 and severely stressed and overwhelmed all the time, I struggle a lot with people online but I adore forming connections regardless. In that same tone I've been running my own D&D campaign for my irl friends, and that's been going wonderfully, it combines all my favorite things into one game.

Still I have a hard time with art, It hasn't been easy at all, and while I miss ghost art I don't know if I can be expected to return to it. I still get very triggered when I see kink or angst content relating to the issues that I have dealt with this past year, which is why I originally distanced myself from the fandom.

Grief also doesn't help but fortunately I am not someone who grieves too outwardly, still it takes a toll on my emotions and my trust with other people and myself, so healing takes it's time. even if it can feel lonely and isolating, I am grateful to have my friends, and my mom's support, even if she's not an ideal mother she has always encouraged me creatively.

I will open commissions soon, but I will not be doing elaborate stuff, no backgrounds, no full body/character sheets, no more than two characters, and with extended time frames, because I can't risk burning myself out again.

I mayyyy also think about some adoptable d&d NPCs, we shall see.

Thank you all for sticking with me through this rough end of the year 😮‍💨 I hope the new one is not so shitty in the end.

And please for the love of all godly and ungodly, just a gentle reminder that when people ask for tags and content filtering it isn't from a place of disgust or hatred towards the content creator, but rather personal safety. some of us are just going through rough patches and that content can hurt us even if it's not meant to. Here's a bit I wrote today from Empty Names. I had this idea stuck in my head of rapidly giving brief descriptions of a bunch of background characters a means of conveying the feel of a place rather than for the sake of the characters themselves being all that important to the story. Not sure how well that worked out, but it was a fun experiment nonetheless.

Later that evening, after having said goodbye to Sarah for the month, changing back into her usual red tracksuit, and calling to check in on Lacuna and Ashan, Eris is sitting on a barstool at 121813.  

“Twelve eighteen thirteen” is the generally agreed upon pronunciation of the bar’s name, although what the name means is less agreed upon.  The three most popular theories are that it’s either a date (usually speculated as either December of 1813), a scriptural reference (which scripture is a whole other debate), or a leftover address from before one of Crossherd’s major layout shifts.  Lacuna had suggested it might be a tarot thing when Eris told her about it.  The Hanged Man, the Moon, and Death.  An ominous spread, according to Lacuna, but Eris figures it makes as much sense as anything else. 

In any case, Fitzgerald Wilhelm von Harkenstein IV, the establishment’s clockwork owner, proprietor, and bartender always seemed to get too much of a kick out of the speculation to give a solid answer.  Make what jokes you like about a bartender with no taste buds, but Fitzy had drink mixing down to an art.  Then again, he claims to be at least as old as the city of Crossherd itself, so Eris figures he had plenty of time to practice if nothing else. 

For over a century now, 121813 has served as the closest thing to a centralized organization for American monster hunters.  Other parts of the world had holy orders, secret societies, and grand lodges stretching back generations, but in these parts everyone figured that a couple dozen thrill-seeking assholes who all frequent the same bar was good enough to get the job done.  Most hunters usually work solo, but the bar is a good place to brag about kills, show off trophies, swap rumors on potential quarries, and put a band together if you get word on something really nasty.

It’s not peak hours yet and regulars are still trickling in, but there were already a few familiar faces there to greet her when she walked in twenty minutes ago.

Golden-eyed Gretchen who had taught Eris German and how to wield a spear.

Bai of the braided beard who had taken over Eris’s old garbage collecting route when she signed up with Road’s new venture and ever since has been alternating between thanking her for the job referral and complaining that he couldn’t take his axes with him on shift.

Wyatt, whose eyepatch is actually an AR visor to aim assist his crossbow and adjust for weight and aerodynamic differences on specialized bolts.

The green-haired enby twins, Loregahste and Lornega, who favor halberds and hammers respectively but both carry swords as backup sidearms.

Chuck in his ill-fitting trenchcoat, a relative newcomer to the game who’s already earning a reputation for going off on insufferable rants about the superiority of katanas.

The grim-faced Preacher, who never shares his name for fear of theft, never touches a drink that isn’t water, and never hides his disdain for everyone else’s choice of archaic weaponry for the sake of sport when guns were so much more efficient at completing the important work of slaying beasts.

Old Vic, the elven immigrant from off world who’s always down to party like the college kid his face looks the age of.

Plus a handful of others that Eris either isn’t all that close to or doesn’t recognize at a glance.  High turnover rates have always been an unspoken truth amongst the monster hunter community.  It’s been said that there are five fates that await hunters.

One: You die early from a stupid mistake, biting off more than you can chew, or just plain bad luck.

Two: You finally catch up with that one monster that was your reason for taking up the hunt to begin with, and if you survive you walk away, vendetta done.

Three: You have your first near-death experience, confront your mortality, and make the wise decision to get out.

Four: You have your first near-death experience, confront your mortality, and realize you’re hooked on the hunt that will surely kill you one day more than you are on living a long life.

Five: The hunt gradually becomes your whole life and personality until one day you hit a tipping point that causes autogenesis to kick into overdrive, transforming you into a monster yourself in need of putting down by your former comrades.

Everyone at the bar tonight - except maybe Chuck and the other newbies like him who still think they’re invincible - has long since made their peace with the idea that they’ll probably be dead by forty.  Fifty tops.  Other than Old Vic, of course, who’s at least twice that age, but rumors that he’s already secretly met the fifth fate have been flying around since before Eris ever found Crossherd and 121813.  Having been on a funerary hunt with him herself and seen what a hunter consumed looks like, Eris doesn’t put any stock in that speculation.

That moment when you think you’re finally fully satisfied with your canon DAI worldstate, when suddenly, LI doubts

Ugh I need to rant 😂

So I finished my Bullmance playthrough yesterday, I updated the keep and figured I’m fully ready for DAD now.

During that last scene with Solas in Trespasser yesterday I was really feeling the Solas feels again, but no. Not happening. I did his romance with Tae once years ago, I enjoyed it, but ultimately I prefer him in a good trusted friend and mentor role. I went back to Bull, who was my first choice for Tae way back on release day and figured not even Dorian could change my mind.

I’ve done a Dorianmance too and I love him, but ultimately, I prefer him as one of Tae’s closest friends as well.

And I do really love Bull, I always considered him a really good fit for Taerel (no pun intended) and he’s still one of my favorite characters... but there was this nagging feeling in the back of my mind during this playthrough that I couldn’t really put my finger on and was difficult to ignore. I knew it was related to the romance because I got the option to lock in a romance with Dorian before Bull and I agonized over it before I told myself no, stick with the plan.

It’s been almost 10 years since I first settled on Bull for Tae, and Tae’s grown so much as a character even to this day, especially recently now that I’ve started working on his story again and I always figured... if not Dorian and Solas, who else is there for Tae to romance? As in, characters that I like as well?

I was on AO3 just now and somehow I ended on the Male Lavellan/Cullen tag aaaaaaaaaaaand here we are. Doubting.

And I don’t need this right now! 🤣 I’ve done three different romances with Tae but Cullen was never a real part of that picture and neither was Blackwall. Yet I just took a moment to envision what it would be like if Cullen and Tae were close in that manner and... it actually has potential. And I dunno how I feel about that.

I never much cared for Cullen before, I didn’t dislike him, I was just... neutral about his character. But I really enjoyed him this time around, and maybe it’s because I’m older too compared to the last time I played this game (2016). I guess that makes sense.

Just the whole... Elven mage who is an important religious figure and actually converts to Andrastianism one day... plus disgruntled ex Templar who is very religious and also has massive magic related PTSD. I could really do a lot with that and my brain is trying to run away with it.

So now I am very conflicted lol. I know there’s a bi Cullen mod on nexus, I don’t know if it still works (the comments on the mod page make me question) but I kinda wanna try it out, even though I JUST finished a playthrough.

On the other hand I’m like NO. STICK WITH BULL.

On the other other hand... I could have Adoribull in my game >3>

I dunno what to dooooooooo. I NEVER for ONE second since I first played DAO waaaaaaay back when... that one day I’d be considering Cullen as an LI. What the fuck lol

I’m gonna sleep on it and give it some more thought tomorrow but... yeah, I may actually try it out and see if I really like it or if I can really rule it out. >>;

i really really dislike what feels like majority of the interpretation of the legolas/gimli relationship, like the way people portray them is sooo weird…the constant mutual antagonizing and the focus on bickering!!!! its another movie adaptation thing, because those removed most, if not all tenderness from them (the miniscule gay budget got used up for sam & frodo i guess). the appeal of gimli and legolas is not that they bicker the appeal is that they love eachother so much despite the general tensions between their peoples (although im not a fan of those tensions being overplayed for dramatics) and despite erus prophecy that there would always be conflict between elves and dwarves!!!!!!!!!!

i dislike the common fanon/movie portrayal of gimli but i think ive actually talked enough about that so im gonna talk about legolas because i also disagree with the common interpretations his character seems to find, although it doesnt bother me as much as with gimli, mostly because people still think hes cool. ANYWAYS! i think painting legolas as super hair- and beauty-obsessed (to the point of it bordering on homophobia) was luckily mostly left in the past, though pinterest still bombards me with bad memes, but i still really hate it 😒 another common thing ive seen, thats also more current, is legolas as an idiot who eats bugs or whatever which IS more fun than the first one and also closer to his book-self but i still dislike it simply because i hate when a happy/optimistic character gets headcanoned as being stupid…its unappealing and boring and i dont think its implied anywhere that legolas is exceptionally dumb :( i do like weird kid legolas a lot though hes special to me <3.

anyways since were on the topic of legolas lets talk about his family since thats another fandom/HOBBIT MOVIES favorite to distort! legolas mother is very very likely a silvan elf and very likely not dead in my opinion . i personally think silvan elves are neutral/if not positively inclined towards dwarves 👍 dont like the common fanon of extreme hatred that was taught to legolas by his parents and also dont dont dont like fanon thranduil & everything the hobbit movies made him out to be!!!!!!! i dont doubt that thranduil had some ill will towards dwarves since the whole thingol slaying and doriath thing… but thranduil is canonically a very good king and very kind, and i dont think he would let a grudge against a specific dwarf clan define his relations to a neighbouring kingdom that doesnt even belong to the same clan!!! someone who kept his kingdom save and out of trouble for so long and also has the closest relations to their neighbouring kingdom of men out of all the elven realms would be better than that and atleast be neutral and not hostile sorry this wasnt meant to be about the hobbit movies but i could go ON a out them i cant see legolas in those without laughing at him dear god. the implication that legolas, who supposedly hated dwarves, shared a horse with gimli and then was a changed man is very funny though.

also, since im going off on a tangent anyways, i think mîm didnt do anything wrong and also thingol and the dwarven smiths were both at fault for the conflict. sorry for the dwarf bias but someone has to be on their side because i still see too many people hating on them

back to lotr: i think blond blue eyed legolas is boring, i hate what they did to elrond and boromir in the movies, i think saruman and sauron being basically brothers is a very funny interpretation that we should talk about more and i hateee almost all modern lotr aus because its hars to replicaze into modern world and also aragorn would NOT be a CEO!!!!!!!!!! a good king in tolkienverse is benevolent and puts his subjects first and he is a healer. oh about legolas and gimli/mirkwood and erebor again, sorry im a one trick pony, i think that both thranduil & unnamed wife as well as gloin & unnamed wife love their kids too much to truly oppose them being together. gloin may be hotheaded but hes not stubborn enough to not ever back down, see the council of elrond: hes mad, rightfully so, to find out that a servant of mordor was apprentely treated better as a prisoner than thorin & company but seeing as the responsible party, thranduil, is not even there, and how theres very important business to discuss he quickly backs down and even bows to legolas as an apology!!!!

i tried to find out if we know how long exactly the dwarves were imprisoned, and it seems it was about 20 days, while gollum was there for around 90 days, so perhaps they would have let the dwarves get some fresh hair eventually as well . not that gloin wasnt rightfully angry, he was! and still very gracious about it . love gloin hes great

also TRUE unpopular opinion incoming: im neutral on sam/frodo…its cute yes but i dont have any big thoughts about them and i think sam and rosie are very sweet :^) but also i dont trust people who completely dislike it esp cishets…. legolas and gimli are basically canon to me like they did that. okay ready for another TRUE AND REAL unpopular opinion. i think faramir is kind of boring and i dont care much for him, sorry ❤️‍🩹

helloooo, so i saw that u have a BNHA dr and u said that u werent a student, and i got really interessed since its different from mostly bnha shifters, if ure comfortable with that. could u tell more about this dr?

Hey! I’d love to clarify; I’ll happily talk about any of my DR’s any time :D

So, to summarise: my two OCs for my BNHA DR are my children in this DR, and I am their silly medieval parent trying to understand why my son said he’s a femboy and why my other son said that he likes TokTik.

More under the cut, but please be warned, I kinda went off on a lore rant; I’m sorry!

So, in my BNHA DR, I have two OCs, Kolka and Aros (yes their names are silly; I have legitimate reasons though, I promise). I don’t have any art, but Kolka and Aros are twins, and are my definition of chimaeras, which are half Kienrif (my home-brew shapeshifters) and half human, traditionally, and tend to have “splotchy” colouring that isn’t found naturally. I haven’t decided who their dad is yet, but I’m their mom in this DR.

So, I’ve made a post about it before, but my DR self is a (formerly) 1500 year old elf, but in this DR, it isn’t a former thing. My DR self is the elven equivalent of 40 years old and a single parent to two rambunctious kittens. In all of my DRs where I’m this character, they essentially get isekai’d to where they end up in the DR from their original reality (it’s basically shifting for them but like,,, he’s grouchy).

However, in my BNHA DR, a cataclysmic event happens: there’s a mass murder of Kienrif, entering genocidal territories through feeding Rowan berries to as many wild animals as possible, destroying the Kienrif food source since anything to do with the rowan trees are extremely toxic to Kienrif (this is because the god that created them is allergic).

ANYWAYS. TANGENT. Kolka and Aros are brought to the world of BNHA through what’s called an auyura, or a fae’s gate, which is supposedly their parent’s (me) last act before dying with the rest of their people, in a desperate attempt to keep his precious babies alive.

So these dudes, they’re just,,, vibing. Little medieval kitties that look and act like people but would maul you if given the chance. Think like, Floyd and Jade Leech from Twisted Wonderland but somehow even more chaotic and silly.

Kolka is kinda dumb, and loves getting into mischief. Aros is equally mischievous, but he’s smarter, and tries to be responsible. They’re usually a tag team though. Kolka has black hair and darker skin but has vitiligo and random white splotches in his hair, as well as heterochromia, with his left eye being dark brown while the other is extremely pale blue. Aros is… somehow a ginger, with some matching white spots in his hair similar to his brother, and yellow-ish eyes. They’re both tiger shapeshifters, but are also visible chimaeras due to this unusual and unnatural colouring pattern they both share.

BUT ANYWAYS I’m not dead. Mostly because I’m ✨ s p e c i a l ✨ but I have a coyote demon named Aeldiet who is basically my absolute best buddy and is the greatest dude ever (technically also a Kienrif but generally sticks to a coyote form). But he essentially murders a fae just to take their magic and get us the heck out of the murder land.

So now I’m a silly old man who’s trying to figure out this whole “modern-day” thing but my kids seem to have adjusted and I am very lost and also—

I forgot to mention it but my DR self is completely blind. I’m aware that this is an odd choice, but originally my DR self was an OC for a book, and it feels wrong for me to change the character simply because it doesn’t match an aesthetic. It’s the same way I choose to still have my DR self be trans; even though I could script myself as cisgender, I want to stay true to the character that I want to be, and I know this is an odd, potentially controversial thing, but it’s how I am going to be doing this. And no, I won’t be having any “magic fixes” for being blind. That’s not something I’m comfortable with.

I'd certainly say it doesn't help things, you're right! I have...a lot of issues with the Jedi and their portrayal (especially in the Legends/SWTOR era), but I also recognise that a lot of that is very personal to me and that another fan might feel differently. Long, ranty post ahead so if that's not your deal, skip this one.

TL;DR: thinking critically about the behaviour of the Good Guys bad, I guess, since they're the good guys and you're obviously not allowed to use your own agency to decide something they do makes you deeply, viscerally uncomfortable.  And God help you if you disagree with anything they do and cite personal experience behind your (very justified) avoidance of that rhetoric/teaching, because Bad Things Justified If Good People Do Them and how dare you have different personal experiences and responses. If that's what you do, you're doing fandom wrong /s Also, bad writing choices of the writers themselves that perpetuate toxic, harmful viewpoints and/or stereotypes don't mean anything when said viewpoints/stereotypes are the Bad Guys because...Bad Guys Aren’t Supposed To Be People With Rights, Thoughts and Feelings Too, They’re Just Evil, (cringe)

Disagreeing with someone’s opinions is fine, but if you’re going to deliberately expose yourself to content you don’t like and then attack the person that is making the content because they made it and it upset you when you went looking for it....you are, in fact, the one at fault babes. No one is holding you hostage, you can block tags or unfollow a person (especially me. I really don’t care honest to god, if my posts are not your jam just leave. please.) if you hate what they post so much and are unable to just scroll past things you don’t like to stay for things you do. I’ve done it and will continue to do so, and my fandom experience is happier for it. Also, people are human and sometimes we’re tired and we make mistakes like we miss a trigger tag, and you are within your right to come to the person and point that out, but you are not within your right to threaten them because they made a mistake. Then you’re just a dick.

But I still wouldn't be the one going around (passive) aggressively attacking other fans for disagreeing with my opinions and again, this is based on personal experience, but I've seen a lot more of that stuff from "pro-Jedi" people who seem to be conveniently okay with shit like mass-genocide and cultural erasure because "the Jedi are the good guys and the (OT) Sith are fascists!"

I don't interact with the subsect of fans that do think "the (OT) Empire did nothing wrong hurr durr" unironically (and for good reason, I don't agree with that viewpoint either and the fact that half the time the "defence" of these other fans is "well you're pro-fascist then!!" lmao) but there's a very big gap between the OT Empire which is rightfully a mirror of fascism and dictatorial governments and I do, in fact, raise my eyebrows in heavy criticism and disdain at the writers of the TOR-era deliberately choosing to "justify" the ultimate end being said fascist Empire by making the Sith species (and as always I preface this by saying I am in fact white & therefore know I have priveledge and can only "relate" on a much shallower level as POC fans, but there are places where I do find them more relatable than the TOR-era Jedi which reek of conservative, pearl-clutching Christianity (which I spent way too much of my life having forced upon me by the bible-bashing Evangelists(tm) in my family) to me and I just don't have the fucks to give to spend time fixing something that's honestly traumatising for me to be reminded of):

-heavily Indigenous/POC-coded

-"tribal" and not in a properly-researched and respectfully portrayed sense but in a very deliberate "these people are savage and need to be colonised and "sophisticated" by the More Acceptible (Human) Dark Jedi" even though they had their own society, belief systems, and even had technology - just not in the "socially acceptible, conventional sense" I guess

-perpetuating this by adding slavery and all of that can of worms into the mix too, just to drive home the "evil and bad" prototype ig. I'm not even gonna speak more on this part because it just makes me angry.

-Deliberately giving them more "alien" or inhuman characteristics, which while by itself is not necessarily a bad thing, put it together with all the other things?? Big. Fucking. Oof.

-Were literally exterminated and the survivors selectively bred for ONLY the "bad and evil" traits for not agreeing with the Jedi's beliefs. Their own practises and beliefs were automatically "evil" and "wrong" just because they didn't want to "convert" (sniff sniff, Christianity, is that you?)

because "oh noooo you do not follow the way of the Truth and the Light you horrible person how dare you defy The One True Correct Teaching, that makes you the Devil Incarnate no matter what" UGH.

-Continuously push the idea (very heavily) that Emotions Are Bad, which just creates a bunch of emotionally-stunted powderkegs unable to recognise, confront and deal with said emotions (and as I've said, I would know, I was one and maybe still am in some ways lmao) , then blames said powderkeg for exploding because they were never taught how to handle the emotions in the first place.

(Fuck "there is no emotion, there is peace", that's not how people work and never will be lmao)

I don't really know what else to say about this to be honest, because even though I've only been on tumblr about a year now, I'm already tired of this constant "I'm right, you're wrong" finger-pointing between those people in the fandom.

Cause to some of these "pro-Jedi" people it's an unthinkable crime to dare to have a different opinion to them and just want to be left alone, I guess. I've literally been attacked for saying "I don't like the Jedi and find dealing with their dogma too traumatising based on personal experience and trauma from my childhood so I'm going to avoid it but you do you"

I've had American Christians (tm) clap back to that with the ever-wonderful "LMAO bitch you don't have religious trauma, you didn't grow up in the bible-belt, stop trying to be edgy, shut up and go to therapy"

(all of this is sarcasm, for those who need me to spell it out for you. I'm still traumatised by the shit I went through and have to constantly check myself and my own feelings because of the toxic "habits" those teachings tried to push onto me as a child and I have zero tolerance and patience for your (not you, ssalmon, but the royal "you" as it were) victim-blaming abuse apologism "gotchas")

because 1) clearly American Christianity and the bible-belt are the only insidious and harmful subsect of Christianity and it's not like the concept of Evangelism as a whole is inherently toxic, harmful, and traumatising to those subjected to it right 2) Obviously there's a Stated Right Way To Be Traumatised and anyone who falls outside of that (Non-Existent) handbook is "faking it for attention" 3) bold of them to assume that curating my own fandom (and life) experience, and refusing to engage with things that trigger me, isn't something that I literally fucking learned in therapy lmao

Also, I find it funny how these are the people going around attacking people like me, who are literally minding our own motherfucking business, but then claim to preach “love and tolerism” and all this other bullshit. I chose to do it where the reader wasn't really singing to Legolas but more angrily ranting? I based the ending off of some stories I heard where some parents who heard the song realized how much they put on their children and began to do better for them- hope you enjoy it!

“Are you alright?” Legolas asked for the millionth time as you stood tense at the guard station. Being the leader of the guard of the Elven Greenwood wasn’t an easy task, but to put that alongside the duties of being a member of the royal family, Thranduil’s oldest child no less? He knew it was a lot to shoulder.

“-’m fine,” You murmured, going over another written report of the northern tip of the woodland realm.

“You disappoint me, (Y/n),” Your father’s words echoed in your ears, a particularly harsh meeting this morning had left you fumbling, feeling like you needed to prove yourself yet again to your father. It didn’t matter how many spiders nests you destroyed, how many diplomatic meetings went well, the pressure continued.

“No mistakes,” His icy gaze filled your thoughts as you shook your head.

“You seem nervous today, did something–”

“I’m not nervous. I’m as tough as the crust of the earth is, Legolas,” You teased your younger brother, straightening up to leave the room to survey the cells as he followed closely on your heels.

“Something happened with Ada, I know–”

“You know Legolas… Under the surface, I feel like a tightrope walker in a three-ring circus.”

Before he could reply, you continued.

“Under the surface? I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service to Ada.” You continued, your movements paused as you looked at the stone.

“It’s this constant pressure, pressure that never stops. It’s like a drip on a leak, eventually, the bucket will overflow. “

“Give it to your sister, your sister’s older, give her all the heavy things we can’t shoulder!” You recited your father’s words, tears springing in your eyes as you whipped to stare at him.

“Who am I, if I can’t carry all of this burden, Legolas?” You frowned, feeling a tear drip down your face, angrily wiping it away.

“I am under a crushing weight of expectation, no room for relaxations or simple pleasures, instead? I’m left measuring this growing pressure.”

“I buckle, and I bend, but I never break.” You murmured, shaking your head and turning back to continue up the stone steps. “No mistakes,” You recited as you left Legolas standing there, mouth open and concern flooding through him as you put your front of a cold-stoned guard back on.

“No pressure,” You laughed bitterly under your breath.

Thranduil sat in the shadows, his true thoughts hidden behind a calm demeanor but inside his mind was racing. All of the instances where he was harsh on you came to his mind, his eyes turning glassy as he realized just how much they impacted you and who you viewed yourself as.

“I must do better,” Thranduil spoke to himself, he had already lost your mother, and here he was ruining the bonds with the family that remained.

Re: the tags on your ro & fitz post, for me the reason it feels like she goes too far with the traits you mentioned is because her usage of those traits isn't usually used in situations that would call for it?

Like you said, she's a very repetitive character, and a lot of her brashness happens when Sophie and Fitz are having nice moments (due to her wanting Keefe to get with Sophie instead despite, iirc, Keefe wanting her to drop the issue and leave Sophitz alone) which is neither an understandable thing to focus on nor something that should be worth the time of a bodyguard and heir to a throne.

Like, this is petty teen drama! You're supposed to be fighting in a war and protecting a major target because the person leading the rebellion wants him either obedient or dead, not getting involved in who has a crush on who? I understand Ro cares about Keefe, but it's getting to a point where this is less about her wanting good things for Keefe and more about her not wanting Sophitz to happen. And again, all of this is completely unrelated to the actual reason she's in the Lost Cities in the first place.

(And, this is a different topic but it's bugging me, until Bo arrived, Ro was pretty much representing the ogres since she was the only ogre elves had regular contact with, and her getting involved with something so inconsequential doesn't paint a good picture of how responsible the ogres are or how serious they are about the very real threat that has hurt them in the past. Which I feel undermines the very little character we got out of her? I feel like I remember something about her wanting to become queen.

I feel like this is kind of a bigger issue with the ogres as a whole, though, since we never really get any competent ogres who also have a smidge of actual character development aside from King Dimitar, who is pretty thoroughly portrayed as Not On The Main Crew's Side, imo. May be forgetting something though, so if I got anything wrong, my bad, please correct me if you catch it.)

it kind of feels like Ro has been backed into a corner, given the exact same function in scenes over and over again. She says the things no one wants to, says the things that are “supposed” to be kept unmentioned, doesn’t take others feelings into account, etc. because we didn’t have anyone like that before and now we’re relying rely heavily on her character and interjections to get us through this awkward post-sophitz phase

I also think it’s interesting how you bring up her being he only representation of ogres and how it doesn’t paint a good picture, because i think it’s both true and untrue. It can make the ogres seem uncaring and involved in unimportant things, not valuing the relationship between species. But it can also be a show of strength, that she’s so powerful she can meddle in whatever she wants and say whatever she wants without consequence. There’s probably more to that but I’m blanking right now

and I 100% agree with the “ogres DONT get character development” thing. Like yes!! It b it bothers me so much. Every ogre that has been introduced has had one singular personality trait and one way they interact with the group the entire book. Long Dimitar is the fierce leader who doesn’t like the characters but doesn’t have as much power as he claims and is taken down a notch. Ro is the gossipy/annoying powerful ogre who doesn’t care about authority other than becoming it, and Bo is the hardened soldier who does what he’s told and hates everyone he works with. There’s not much substance to them right now.

But! Your comment about Ro wanting to be queen is correct! She and Bo both want the throne, which is why Dimitar arranged for them to be married, because that way only one of them has to win the throne and they can both survive instead of one inevitably killing the other. However this hasn’t been explored yet because they’re currently just being bodyguards

I will note, that in Unlocked we do start to see Ro at least a little differently, her showing compassion and caring (and maybe some pity) for Keefe. It’s very brief, but in her way she is trying to support Keefe through this, but it’s difficult for her to get past this sassy image she’s built up. I don’t think she can handle vulnerable emotional moments well, so she tried to support him through strength and snarky humor

another thing is this whole uncaring hardened, gossipy ogre is likely also a defense. She was the only ogre in the elven world for a long tme. No one liked her! She was probably constantly looked at funny and harassed and all that. It’s not surprising she isn’t cuddly and warm, she’s in an actively hostile environment at all times. I can’t blame her for picking an aggressive persona and sticking to it. I just hope as she grows closer to the kotlcrew we can see just a little bit more from her, let that facade down for a moment

TL;DR: Ro is an ogre in the lost cites, so I bet she’s often met with hostility. So it makes sense she’s have a harsh persona with little variety to protect herself, but it’s getting excessive and interfering unnecessarily and rudely with teen drama she shouldn’t be a part of

thinking about how scott said the guy who he's the reincarnation of combined his powers with aeor....

anyways so who wants to hop on the newest scott headcanon bandwagon: scott is actually just aeor.

that's the reason his kingdom hasn't been protected from xornoth by aeor; aeor has no real power anymore. neither does exor. the reincarnations of their former followers, scott and xornoth, are now the true gods. and xornoth has learned to use their power....while scott hasn't.

On Elven Royalty, Hair Ribbons, and the Impact of High King Smajor on Elven Culture

Hair ribbons are a longstanding elven tradition that has carried through multiple centuries, possibly millennia. Elves will wear hair ribbons to festivals and parties, but also to funerals and even into battle. Though seemingly impractical, the tradition is incredibly significant in elven culture, as it has persisted for generations. (Some scholars even say it began in Valinor, homeland of the elves, though there is no definitive evidence of this.)

Experts are unaware of exactly when or where the tradition of braiding ribbons through hair started, though reports of this have been traced all the way back to King Fingon the Valiant, High King of the Noldor in the First Age of Arda. Though not all elves have always observed this, there are descriptions and records of hair ribbons in some form from every era of the elves, and many different peoples. Noldor, Vanyar, Sindar, and even Silvan elves have been recorded as wearing these adornments, though wood-elves less commonly so than high-elves. In the modern day, both major elven kingdoms retain this tradition.

The ribbons themselves have been crafted from a wide variety of materials, and what is most common varies by the type of elf, their social status/wealth, and the Age they were born in. In the First Age, for example, High King Fingon was observed to wear hair ribbons which had pure gold woven into the fabric. This would be fitting for his status as king, and makes sense for Noldorin culture in that era, which was heavily focused around smithing and other forms of artistry. Noldor royalty would continue to imitate this for some time, but the practice fell out of favor with High King Smajor of Rivendell.

King Smajor was said to be an unusual elvenking in many ways, and his style reflected this. While in the early years of his kingship he wore traditional golden ribbons, in later years he is said to have worn flower crowns and roughly woven brown and green fabrics instead. This seemingly strange choice nonetheless began a trend towards less traditional materials in elven fashion that lasted for centuries afterwards. As a whole, King Smajor was vastly influential in the shift in elven culture in the early Sixth Age.

As the second prince, or ‘spare heir’, King Smajor was not expected to become the High King. However, Prince Xornoth disappeared from public view in 1240 Sixth Age, and their younger twin succeeded the throne instead. At first seen as mannish and incompetent, King Smajor was widely disliked by the elven court when he first ascended. However, as champion of Aeor and the only remaining heir to the house of Elrond Peredhel, he was the only candidate for the throne. Despite the unhappiness of many advisors, he retained the throne for many centuries to come.

Some of the most notable change accomplished during this era includes the end of the Conflict of the Great Stags, the opening of Rivendell’s borders for trade, and the first ever adopted heir of the elves. King Smajor, Champion of Aeor, made peace with Prince Xornoth, Champion of Exor, and ended what was at the time thought to be an eternal cycle of conflict. He also allied with many mortal kingdoms and rulers, including Queen Lizzie Shadowlady of the Ocean Empire, Queen Katherine of the Overgrown, Count Fwhip of the Grimlands, and most notably Codfather Jimmy Solidarity of the Cod Empire. Though the exact nature of his relationship with the Codfather remains unknown, many historians have speculated that they were lovers. The green and brown hair ribbons that King Smajor was fond of (green and brown being thematic colors of the Cod Empire), would seem to support this theory.

Though he was an unusual king, there is no doubt that King Smajor was also an incredibly influential one. Not only did elven fashion change in a direct response to his untraditional choices, the culture of the elves also began a huge shift around this time. Where before, elves had been famously isolationist and kept almost entirely to themselves, during King Smajor’s rein, their trade and interactions with other empires increased drastically. Additionally, elven royalty had long valued blood relation above all other forms, but with the adoption of the future High Queen Mirnen, this began to change.

Today, elven hair ribbons take countless forms, from rough cotton and strings of twine to fine silks and even traditional woven metal. Dyes are made from the many flowers of the Overgrown and even certain kinds of terracotta from Mezalea. Woven copper from Pixandria has become popular in recent years, and the Ocean Empire makes its contribution in tiny pieces of sea glass that are sometimes sewn onto hair ribbons and other elven clothing. Where once, Rivendell had a tradition of blue, white, and gold, there is now a whole rainbow of color, and much of that is due to the un-elven elf king: High King Smajor of Rivendell.
