The entire Sailor Moon fandom has an annoying obsession with interpreting Mamoru as “the straight friend” or “the boring straight man”, and it feels like they ignore his actual character to do so. It’s like they just go I don’t like him, he’s boring, and boring = straight. It’s so annoying because he’s queer-coded in the anime, and in the manga his sexuality is never commented on. Assuming that a character who has no confirmed sexuality is instantly straight is pretty queerphobic honestly. Straight is the default, I guess. :/ /s
He honestly seems asexual, demisexual, aromantic, and/or nonbinary to me (going off of his lack of interest in relationships and his rather androgynous speech patterns in Japanese Sailor Moon media), but any male character who isn’t stereotypically gay can’t be queer apparently. Which like, he’s pretty effeminate anyways?? So he could be interpreted that way, most people just don’t for some reason.
His mannerisms in pretty much all Sailor Moon media are very delicate and feminine. He expresses his feelings through poetry that he dramatically performs OUT LOUD. He has a flower motif and a knowledge of flower language. He seems to enjoy theatre and loves to put on a show. He kinda like,,, had a deep, special connection with a man?? One that’s heavily implied to be of a queer nature, if not a romantic one. I’m not sure how any of this screams “straight man” to you guys. TT0TT
He’s also in a friend group with a bunch of queer girls. What straight boy just befriends a bunch of queer girls?? It’s not exactly typical. You know who does, though? Queer boys! My friend group when I was a teenager was a group of girls and one boy. What did we have in common? We were all queer! Queer people are gravitated to each other.
I don’t even wanna unpack the fact that he’s based off of Otokoyaku, and is usually played women nowadays! (Because I don’t know a ton about Takarazuka, and there’s just too much going on there.) People say he’s “too beautiful” to be played by a man. That doesn’t sound like it contains any implications of gender experimentation or queerness. No way...😳 /s Anyways, look at the resemblance (He has the same style of suit and over-the-top, dramatic presentation)! (Forgive my photo editing.)
Tumblr media
Here’s a passage from an article about Takarazuka that I think describes Mamoru to a T. “They go on to say that the magic of Takarazuka is that it makes them believe in fairy tales, and male actors would be too coarse in the roles displayed in the musicals. Other fans echoed this, adding that women can truly display what an ideal man is, one that is sweet, romantic, sensitive and caring — without all the bad parts of men.” (Link: https://studybreaks.com/thoughts/takarazuka/)
This is Mamoru! He was designed to be an ideal man who is sweet, romantic, sensitive, caring, and *delicate*. He’s called delicate by official materials all the time. This reeeeeeally doesn’t sound like your typical “boring straight man”. His very essence as a character is gender non-conforming! He’s supposed to be a person who has the good parts of men and women. He was purposefully made this way, and it’s not just my interpretation! Takeuchi Naoko has said she was very inspired by Takarazuka, and you can really see it in her work.
In conclusion, it doesn’t make sense that people always interpret him as a “boring straight dude”! There’s literally so much queer stuff going on with him. This is only scratching the surface.

Chapter 132 Levi/Hange Analysis
Summary: An attempt to explain the sentence in chapter 132
Levi: I see your one sided love with Titans still goes unrequited, four-eyes.
Hange: ...We’ll be getting along soon enough. (…すぐに仲良くなるさ)
Disclaimer: this is just interpretation and not meant to be taken as official proof of romance between Levi and Hange in Attack on Titan. This is theory and nothing else. I’ve read multiple tweets and essays to compile my own thoughts.
I personally do not have any qualms with other ships, and this essay doesn’t discredit other Hange or Levi CP’s. Also, sorry but this essay has no pictures.
Lesson_____
A quick Japanese lesson (and language comprehension); I will try to make it painless. I make no assumption on the reader’s Japanese level/English grammar understanding and will be talking about it as is.
When は is combined with another particle, it puts emphasis in a way such as English has intonation. Since Japanese does not stress tone (like how one says the words sarcastically/meaningfully/sadly/cheekily) it uses particles to do this job.
So, when Levi says, “相変わらず巨人とは片思いのままだったなクソメガネ“
It means literally, “As always, still an unrequited love with Titans, four-eyes.”
Naturally, “Your love for Titans is one-sided, as usual, four-eyes.”
In Japanese, using には or とは creates a third, invisible option that is outside of the realm of the sentence.
When you use に or と or even は by itself, it creates a one dimensional statement. When used with other particles combined with は it creates another, outside dimension to the sentence. A third suggestion or comparison. は can be used as a comparative or stress particle as well as a topic marker.
quick example.
I didn’t go to the library with him. ->彼と図書館に行かなかった.( Forward statement. It is as it is. )
I didn’t go to the library with him. ->彼とは図書館に行かなかった (Implying I went there with someone else, but not him. )
Just like you’d expect, English speakers understand the implications of stressing “him.” Just as Japanese speakers understand the implications of とは etc. If we stressed library(図書館には)instead of “boy” (彼とは)then it’s implication is that we didn’t go to the library with him, but maybe somewhere else. I hope this is clear.
____
Okay, on with the analyses. Just a note again, but I’ve naturalized any Japanese so that it’s not literal, but the meaning is the same so it’s easier to comprehend for native English speakers. I’ve changed “I” to “we” considering I formatted to fit essays.
From  ストリキーネさん’s essay
Like others have said, Levi’s words feel like his true confession. Whether it’s romantic or not, it’s up in the air, but while making small talk and commenting about his long time comrade in arms, it seems like this comment is loaded with unlabeled feelings, like “You gross me out, but I feel something special for you and I get you.”
It feels natural to say “You still have unrequited love for Titans.” right after the banter of Hange and Pieck’s exchange.  {note: 巨人に片思いのままだな is using に here, not とは, so it feels natural to say に)
So why did he use “とは” and not ”に”?
If there’s official announcement that say’s there’s no meaning to it, or that it’ll be corrected in the official volume, then this sentence will be meaningless. But if it’s intentional or even unconscious decision, we get the impression that he is recalling a third person (”me” ie Levi) among Hange and the Titans.
Moreover, hearing “four eyes” was unexpected and we can only imagine it was surprising for Hange too. Since we might have never expected that we’d hear “four eyes” in the original manga again, it’s perplexing, but feels filled with something like nostalgia.
With Hange taking over as commander and the world rapidly changing, we get the feeling that there’s a distance between them, at least from what is shown to us from the story.
Because of this short exchange about Titans, all at once we are brought back to “An eccentric, Titan-loving section commander,” and “Captain who’s fond of four-eyes,” and it’s moving.
There’s a little pause (note: talking about the “...” before Hange starts talking) at the end of Levi’s lines and the start of Hange’s dialogue. One wonders if it couldn’t be a mix between surprise and relief on Hange’s end.
Also, as many others have said, Levi is answering Hange’s “I’d prefer if we live here together,” from the forest, to the best that he can. There was no reason to look back at that scene in relation to this because Levi seemed to have brushed off Hange’s shocking statement, but since everyone was referencing that scene, a second re-examination was in order. (Note, the author actually said something a little more personal, so I condensed it to match a more essay-like statement)
Levi could have been surprised.
Someone who he’s known for a long time, and supported each other, and can admit that (Hange) can be troublesome sometimes, but also they hit it off well, yet each of their own responsibilities have become heavier and the world is in this state... in a situation like this, when suddenly alone together in a quiet forest, he might think Hange has stopped thinking if seriously suggesting to run away and saying things like “let’s live together.”
Under circumstances like this, if it were us, we’d likely want to do it, but remember we have responsibilities, maybe we don’t know what the other person feels, perhaps we’d rather we never heard it, so we pretend not to. In Levi’s case, perhaps pretend to sleep (pretending to not be able to hear it) or when he wakes up, change the subject completely.
It’s unlikely that Levi could give an answer on the spot, and would want time to figure it out.
(There’s more to the essay but it’s thoughts on relationships between people and some other things that don’t apply to the quote)
ーーーーー
Notes concluded from various twitter surfing:
Many JP fans think Levi’s statement alluded to the forest scene. It’s like his clumsy answer to Hange’s proposal, since he didn’t give a direct answer. Actually the essay above felt his answer was cold and ignored Hange. But Hange doesn’t seem displeased about it.
As many have said, Hange and Levi are definitely “adults” in this world. They both understand it’s not feasible to do the things they want to do, because their duties supersede that. Hange carries the immense duty of commander, and both hold the responsibility to stop Eren or fight for humanity as a whole.
It’s rather evident to me, even as an ordinary reader, that Levi did not want Hange to go. In fact, Hange says, 行かせて, “let me go.” and anticipated Levi would try to stop Hange. Mind you, it’s not “release me” but “I have to do this, so don’t stop me.” It took him three panels, focused on his dead-like eyes to finally say “Dedicate your heart,” something he’s apparently never said before. To me, “Dedicate your heart” is a self-sacrificing quote when applied to the Survey Corps. Pretty much “go in bravely, and don’t expect to come back.” Levi is a “Live and come back’ type. The strange thing is that Levi puts his hand on Hange and says it.. in Hange’s place..? It’s a salute before battle, but here it feels like a gentle sentence. Why it was delivered that way? I hope that Isayama will answer these questions in future interviews.
_________
Another thing, Levi says みててくれ to Hange, a now deceased person. Levi has never asked anything from the dead. He’s mentioned fulfilling his promise to Erwin about killing Zeke, but some have found it strange for Levi to ask Hange to “Watch me (kill Zeke.”) (edit: the point is that Levi asked Hange to keep watching him, so it seems that his promises and goals may have changed)
One user said something pretty sad. “For Levi, I think Hange is treated as a MIA. Even if there’s no chance of survival, if Levi looks at Hange’s death, Hange has ended for him right there. So since Hange hasn’t ended, he said “ watch out for me.” That’s the reason why Levi, who’s looked at dead soldiers in the eye, didn’t look at Hange.”
It’s simply, Levi didn’t say “Rest in peace,” or “Goodnight.” but “See ya, Hange. Keep looking out for me.”
________
Going back to the quote about Titans, the summary is, that in Japanese, Levi’s speech seems incredibly nuanced because he uses language that suggests that Hange and him have come to a mutual feeling, and it’s simply by stating “with Titans” (but there’s a mutual love with me). That’s why the above essay questions if this isn’t a misprint or mistake, or perhaps it’s nothing at all. (I want to point out, that one user suggested it could refer to Eren, but it seems unlikely)
This is his “answer.” And Hange says...”...We’ll get along soon enough.”
There’s a “...” before Hange says that, indicating a pause, whether out of surprise by being called “four-eyes”, or carefully thinking on how to respond to “とは”
Some other notes before I close this up, I thought this was a nice thought on LeviHan:
Hange was introduced while talking and having contact with Levi and Hange exited while talking and having contact with Levi. Really, Hange’s story started and ended with Levi.
________
I apologize if this seems everywhere, I’m not particularly fond of writing, but for Hange’s last chapter, I feel like English speakers should get in on what Japanese levihan fans were saying.

BNHA Chapter 307 Spoiler Thoughts: Vigilante Deku
The leaks are out, but this seems like a shorter chapter than what we’ve gotten in a while.  On one hand, that kinda sucks because less content for us.  On the other, I’m glad because I hope that means that Horikoshi is going easier on himself after working on the manga, 3rd movie, the anime, and the upcoming BNHA exposition over the past couple months.  I’m honestly shocked he hasn’t had a break since I think New Years.  At this point, I want him to give himself a break.  That would be better than have him grind for shorter chapters each week like the Joint Training Arc had when it first came out in Jump (that was torture good god...).  Anyway, not too much to say here, so I’m probably gonna keep it short too this week.  Again, I probably won’t be 100% correct until the official translations come out on Sunday:
The main 2 characters we see in this chapter are Yo Shindo (Vibration boy) and his GF, Tatami Nakagame (the girl with that weird Telescopic turtle Quirk) from the Provisional Lisence Exam Arc.  I hope y’all who voted for Shindo in the popularity poll (I still can’t believe that even happened) are happy he finally made a comeback in this chapter.  Only to get his ass kicked later in the chapter LOL.
But really, they are our “Heroes” in this chapter taking heat from the public.  Shindo and Nakagame are both officially in their 3rd year of high school, so that basically confirms that the new school year has officially begun.  This means that 3rd years like Mirio, Tamaki, and Nejire have officially graduated high school and are probably sidekicks to their respective mentors (we’re not sure where Mirio stands with this yet though)!  And our 1-A kids are now 2-A kids!  Strange that the last chapter showed them still living the 1-A dorms though, so I wonder when they’ll move to their new dorm rooms.  I also wonder if we’ll see the new 1st years.  If there are any...  Maybe I’m thinking too far into this...
Anyway, Shindo and Nakagame are leading some of the public to their school for shelter, but the citizens aren’t sure about Heroes anymore.  I don’t really blame them.  Heroes have protected people in the past, but their actions and inactions caused a lot of deaths and lost homes.  How can you keep faith in your heroes if they can’t give you 100% reassurance that things will be ok?
Oh, AND FREAKING MUSCULAR IS BACK!  And of course he’s out for blood!  Shindo tries to go up to stop him like a hero.  Though it is a noble effort, he gets absolutely destroyed by Muscular.  This kid was 🤏 close to dying.  Muscular is that freaking strong!
And I’ve heard word that some fans think that Shindo was attacked because he looks like an older Deku I TOTALLY BUY INTO THAT THEORY HAHA!  And we KNOW Muscular is targeting Deku in particular for revenge.  Given how Muscular’s intelligence was an E in the Ultra Analysis book (if I remember correctly), I’m not surprised he made this mistake.  NGL, I kinda feel bad for Shindo here.  Kinda.
And the final panel shows Deku in what is basically his vigilante costume AND HE LOOKS SO BADASS IM HERE FOR THIS SHIT!!!  His costume is all ripped up and ruffled AND HE’S FINALLY FULLY WEARING HIS BUNNY HOOD AND METAL MASK LIKE HE’S SUPPOSED TO HELL YEAH!!!  Those two pieces of his costume have just been hanging there for a majority of the series and we rarely ever see them in action, so I’m so glad to see them in use here.  Also, I noticed that Deku’s vigilante costume looks a lot like his beta costume from the early drafts of the series.  The menacing look to it especially brings this home.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Horikoshi took inspiration from his earlier ideas for this.  He’s done it before with Mt. Lady and Yui Kodai (1-B’s Size Girl) who were both early concepts for Ochaco Uraraka.
Finally, Deku being here confirms two things:
1. He’s still in Japan.  He is not in the States like some of us thought (myself included).  Ngl, I would’ve loved to see Deku in America doing American things, but it makes sense that he would stay in Japan since this is where the villains broke out of.  He needs to stay to protect his home.
2. We have not made a massive time-skip like some people thought.  If the war arc ended at the end of March, that means that we’re at lest 1-3 weeks ahead if the new school year has started.  I’m really glad we didn’t make a big jump in time.  We need to see what Deku’s up to as a vigilante right now.  We also need to know of what happened during this time.  Also, since he’s still in Japan, Deku shouldn’t be too hard to find.  At least for those closest to him.
Speaking of, WHERE ARE BAKUGO AND SHOTO???  Deku’s 2 closest friends are still nowhere to be found!  I want to see our boys!  I want to know what they’ll do.  I still have no doubt that they’ll go after Deku eventually, especially Bakugo and maybe Ochaco.  I think Shoto will join in the Deku search too honestly.  If Deku’s presence can drag the villains out, then maybe he can drag Dabi out?  Especially if Shigaraki decides to go after him.  Kill 2 birds with one stone sort of thing.  I just want to see Shoto again in general haha 💙!
And that’s pretty much it!  Again, shorter chapter so I hope Horikoshi is getting some rest for himself (Edit: Fan Scans are out and I counted 16 pages this week.  That’s like 1-2 pages shorter than usual, so it’s not that short.  Still hope Horikoshi gets some rest though).  Apparently we’re still getting a chapter next week though.  I hope our mangaka doesn’t burn himself out.  Though I’m soooooooo excited to see Deku’s vigilante adventures and I hope he absolutely folds Muscular in the next couple of chapters now that’s he’s stronger.  I need to see Vigilante Deku throw hands!  Please let me see that!

Episode 9's blog post (Spoilers under the cut!)
This post by Balletta is dated 8th June 2021. It apparently took him 8 hours to write...which is why I took so long putting this post out. (I had to skip a lot of the descriptive stuff and it still took me over 4 hours to do this post...)
There are also some tweets from Hishida below, including one regarding ep. 10. If you don't want any info about ep. 10 until you get to it, skip reading tweet 2.
Due to the nature of the ep., there is a mention of suicide below.
Hishida's tweet 1:
Now that you mention it, F-Ran episode 9's male sleazebag Kyuji was voiced by Kosuke Toriumi. For me, he had the role of Daizan in my first directorial work, Onmyou Taisenki, so I have a big obligation towards him. Thanks a lot. Also, episode 10, which is airing tomorrow, has a person who's taken extreme care of me. Is this an inescapable fate?!
(Who is this he's talking about? Read on.)
Hishida's tweet 2:
まさか福山潤くんに会えるとはね。りっくん、生まれ変わってギャンブラーになってました…w #フィクションです
Unexpectedly, I was able to meet Jun Fukuyama, huh? Rikkun was reborn as a gambler...LOL #ThisIsFiction
"Rikkun" = Riku Tachibana, protagonist of Onmyou Taisenki.
Hishida's tweet 3:
美梨香ちゃん、プリチャンのルルナ…。僕はキャスティングには関わっていません。
Birika-chan is Pri-chan's Luluna...My casting has not changed.
Pri-chan = Kiratto Pri-chan. Luluna and Birika share the VA Hibiku Yamamura.
On to the post (note Balletta goes backwards and forwards in time a lot in this post, so with that on top of my omissions, it's a bit hard to keep track of):
Post's name: "The Perverted and Slightly Sad Episode 9". (You know why it's perverted, but the "slightly sad" will be revealed later on. Balletta specifically uses a word for "slightly sad" used by teenage girls, ぱおん.)
Balletta starts by giving various greetings (this matches last time's), asks if everyone enjoyed Fairy Ranmaru ep. 9. It's Uruu's second turn, so he's going to give real-time thoughts and comments on the ep.
The ep starts with Uruu painting "blue roses" (according to Balletta). "収録の時に、第3話の時みたいにうるうくんの英語から始まったらどうしよう…と台本貰うまでドキドキしてたのはここだけの秘密です…" - "It's a secret between us that when we were recording, I was nervous until I got the script, wondering what would happen if we started with Uruu-kun's English like in episode 3..."
Balletta goes on to discuss how people call Uruu "Blue Rose" (from Tiger and Bunny). People have been making this connection ever since the key visual (the one with the fairy forms) dropped. Even now, when watching the anime on Nico Nico Douga, he'll think: "Hi, Blue Rose's older brother!").
He skips to Uruu's mother's suicide scene. Her wings are broken like glass and Balletta thinks this is when Uruu's heart was broken too. This is also where he thinks Uruu's ideal of "always be proper" was born.
The blushing Homura, being healed by Bakkun and reading an article on Shiina's manga, is "transcendently cute".
It's at this point where Balletta starts introducing quotes from the discussion with "ワン!トゥー!!スリー!!!" ("One! Two!! Three!!!") (<- For the curious, there are 6 of these in the post, but they're not entirely the same.)
Balletta wonders in small text if there was tongue or not during the CPR scene...
"この時のうるうくんの表情が完全に悪役の悪い顔になってて、正直自分もアニメ見てて「うるうくん!顔わるいなぁー!!」ってなりましたね!" - "That time Uruu's face looked like a villain's, and straight up I also saw in the anime, 'Uruu-kun! You're making a bad face-!!'"
Balletta is relieved Homura has been revived.
The sloth's lump is moving...
Balletta introduces Birika and the plot of the week. "不倫!ダメ!!ゼッタイ!!!" - "Adultery! Don't do it!! Absolutely don't!!!" (he repeats this through the post and counts the times he says it - the editing Chesarka from the future says he ends up with 3 instances of this)
Balletta recaps that Uruu is good at painting, as we know from ep. 1. It seems to be the same painting, but then he puts red paint on top. This made Balle-san think of Homura so much, he couldn't concentrate on the painting. In short, FIRE (insert flame emoji, obviously referencing Homura's shirt).
5 to Heaven synced up on how they thought during recording. When Uruu is talking to Birika and she says "心が清廉だからだよ" ("Because you have an honest heart."), they all thought, "心が清廉、どうも清怜うるうです。" ("You have an honest heart - thank you, Uruu Seiren.") Balletta thinks they increased their bonds as a result. (Note "honest" in this case is "seiren".)
Some descriptive bits later, we get to this sentence: "第1話から今回の第9話までに、うるうくんの心情や見えている世界が大きく変わったことを意味しているのではないかと自分は思いました!" I thought from ep. 1 until ep. 9, the world he is seeing has changed greatly!" A bit further down: "先程も話した、第1話から第9話にかけて、うるくんの心情や見えている世界が大きく変わってきていると言ったもう一つの理由がこの言葉なんです!第1話では世界に対しても常に正しくあるべきと考えていたうるうくんが、第9話に至るまでに色んなことがありました。
過去のトラウマ、火焔族への憎しみ、焔くんに対しての嫉妬。" - "That's another reason why I said earlier the world Uruu-kun sees has changed greatly from ep. 1 to ep. 9! Ep. 1, where Uruu-kun thinks everything should be correct about the world, to the Uruu-kun in ep. 9 who has had various things happen. Past trauma, the hatred of the Ignis clan, the jealousy which he feels towards Homura."
Balletta can't believe how Birika's mother came back and had a kiss mark on her neck. He gets so angered he starts making puns on his own name (bareru means to leak a secret, while barebare means a transparent lie) and ends with "あ、どうもバレッタです。" - more along the lines of "Ah, sorry, I'm Balletta" than the previous "thank you"s - before returning to the previous discussion.
Some more description later, Balletta mentions the appearance of Sirius. "素晴らC!いや!すばらシリウス!!!" - "SubaraC (shii)! No! SubaraSirius!!!" (subarashii = wonderful) He then discusses Sirius's musings.
End A part. Balletta stops for a bit to note "You only noticed all this incredible impressions and comments are [for] the A part? Didn't you see the previous post?" He also comments Hori's post was short and that was fine. "ま、イケメンだからいっか!!!(うるうくん達が)" - "Well, they're handsome, so what?!!! (Uruu-kun and co. are)"
Now to the B part. Balletta notes there's a piece of art that is a pot in the art gallery. Pot quota: check.
Some description (and more yelling about how adultery is bad and unforgivable) later: we get to the kiss scene. This transformation is voiced differently to the one in ep. 3 in terms of the pan upwards part and the sound effect of boots scratching you can hear during the "Taboo rescinded! Love! In abundance!" callout. "自分もリアルタイムで第9話見てて、「あれ!?ボイス変わってるし、音が追加されてる!凄い!!」ってテレビの前でなってました!ありがたい限りです!" - "Even when watching ep. 9 in real-time, I was in front of the TV, going, 'Huh?! The voice changed and a sound was added! Amazing!!' I'm nothing but grateful!"
Hotel Tsubo returns. "なんかもう毎回このアニメをリアルタイムで見るたびに「今回はどこに壺が隠れてるかなぁ〜♪」ってなってる自分がいてビックリしますよ笑" - "Basically every time I watch this anime in real-time, I'll be like, 'Where will they hide the pot this time~?♪', so I'm surprised. LOL"
"そしてそんな「HOTEL壺」では、美梨香さんの母親と久二さんがS○Xしてるシーンが出ましたね。申し訳ないけどもう一回だけ言わせてくださいね…
ふざけんにょ!!!" - "Also, at that Hotel Tsubo, Birika-chan's mother and Kyuji have a scene where they're having s_x. I'm sorry for saying this, but please let me say this once...stop screwing around!!!" (The "screw" pun is intentional on my part.)
Enka scene. Balletta calls Uruu "sexy & beautiful" because of his black lace wings and strong gaze.
Head back to Bar F. "バックンはこのアニメの癒し…
いつもありがとうバックン!" - "Bakkun [being] in this anime is healing...thanks as always, Bakkun!"
Some description later, around the part where Uruu's mother says Uruu is just like his dad...you can see germ-like objects that look like water fleas and Uruu gains some damage from them sticking themselves down his throat. There are various versions of this scene and after all the yelling from recording them, he felt considerably more passionate.
Some more description later, Balletta doubles back to the scene slightly beforehand. where Ranmaru and Chilka are in the same place.
Balletta then continues for a bit about the plot and is at the scene where Kyuji is relieved he's free of the old hag when he goes, "ワン!トゥー!!スリー!!! 「エヘッ、ぱおーん!」 こんの野郎ーーーー!!!ぱおーんじゃねぇんだよぉー!!!!!ガオーってライオンだらけの檻の中にぶち込むぞぉーーーー!!!となったのはこのブログだけにそっと記しておきますね。" ("One! Two!! Three!!! 'Ehe, that's kinda sad!' These bastards---!!! This isn't 'kinda sad'!!!!! I'll throw you into a cage full of roaring lions----!!!...This blog became a place where I can quietly write this precisely [because I can], huh?")
Balletta discusses the final scene and then draws attention to Takara's scene by going, "「あっちゃー、もう一山残っちまったかぁー」 えっ!?何が残ったの!?" - "'The worst is yet to come.' What's coming?!" (<- Translation using the CR line)
He then tells everyone to look forward to next time's Fairy Ranmaru ep., says he's finished, that was ep. 9's comments and impressions, apologises for his long post again and puts some promotional stuff I've already covered on magicalgirlsandcerulean (in order: character song CD, the live show in Sept., Sweets Paradise, Vivid Army, Otasuke Heaven, BD/DVD 1, the curry plate, Bakkun plush, key necklaces, Fairy Ranmaru's official Twitter + YouTube). He then ends by saying he's done (again) and he's Yutaka Balletta, who voices Uruu.
Takara's comment: "原稿用紙40枚やで~気合い入れて読んでや~" - "You took 40 sheets of genkou youshi~. We read it with effort." (referencing the line where he apologises for his long post: "今回また2回目の当番回だったというのもあって気合い入れまくった結果やっぱり長文になってしまいました!ご容赦くださいまし!!" - "This time was the 2nd time I was in charge [of the post], so the result was, of course, me putting in effort! Please forgive me [for my long post]!")
Update: Minor fixes for accuracy and clarity.

Linkle's Mini-Handbook of Relevant Bungou Stray Dogs and General Fandom Terms You Might Want to Know (Part 1/3)
In light of the fact that my long-awaited article on Fifteen is going to be coming out soon, I have compiled for the less veteran fans of the series a small handbook of series-specific terms that tend to differ between the novel/manga and the animated series, as well as some of the most essential terms used in general fandom spaces, that have a chance of appearing in or being quite relevant to said work of mine.
If you are very savvy in the series or do not limit yourself to one medium or the other, you will probably already know most if not all of these words and their meanings, but in the event that you do not, I hope that this little guide might be of some help to you!
I will obviously be going into the greater detail of some of these story elements in the novel, but a quick pre-release primer surely cannot hurt.
Needless to say, there will be some spoilers to Fifteen in here so, if you don't want spoilers...come back later, please? If you don't mind the spoilers, though, then jump below the cut! ^-^
Bungou Strays Dogs-Specific Terms
1. Fifteen: The commonplace, shortened version of the title, “Dazai, Chuuya, Fifteen Years Old”, an officially canon light novel written by the series creator, Kafka Asagiri, of which the first editions were originally handed out in theaters during a specific week in March 2018 to movie-goers who were looking to see the animated film DEAD APPLE. It is this novel that a year later was (extremely poorly) adapted into the anime’s third season as a mini-arc. An expanded but otherwise unaltered second edition of the original novel was released in August of 2019, including a new a bonus chapter, an afterword, and several illustrations by Harukawa35. A direct sequel light novel, Stormbringer, will be releasing on February 27th of this year (2021).
2. Arthur Rimbaud: The true name of the ability user who goes by the alias of Randou throughout much of Fifteen; anyone who has read the novel or even fan posts made by people who have will probably already be aware of this, but seeing as his identity is never truly, properly, fully revealed in the anime, it is still something worth noting here, as I will be alternating between his different names quite a lot for variety’s sake.
3. Paul Verlaine: The name of Randou’s former partner prior to joining the Mafia — and Chuuya Nakahara’s alleged elder brother (literally) — whose identity was, as with many things, wrongfully cut from the animated adaption.
4. Gifted/Gift/Ability User/Ability/Special Ability: The catchall phrases for those with special supernatural powers in the series, “gifted” tends to be the word favored in the animated series whereas Ability User tends to be much preferred in the manga and light novels, but in this case neither are exclusive, as there are points when one is used in the other and vice versa. Likewise, “Gift” and “Ability” are terms used to describe the powers themselves, with “Special Ability” sometimes also working as an alternative to either — primarily in the manga and light novels.
5. Hyperspace/Subspace: The names that the light novel and the anime use for the pocket-dimension ability owned and used by Randou/Arthur Rimbaud, respectively. I may also alternate between these terms for variety, but I suspect I will be using hyperspace more often as it is the one I have always personally preferred.
6. Transcendental/Transcendent: A special type of ability user more powerful than all other gifted in the world, whose members number only in the tens. Arthur Rimbaud is one of them, and as such, is practically invulnerable to at least all others not sharing this status with him, if not all natural-born ability users in general. In fan translations, the term usually used is “Transcendental”, but the official English edition of the only other light novel to make mention of their kind simply calls them “Transcendent”.
7. Abilities Secret Service/Special Abilities Department/Gifted Special Operations Division: All commonly used names for the division of the Japanese government of which Ango Sakaguchi is a part, normally preferred by the manga, light novels, and anime, respectively. Chief Taneda Santouka is the organization’s leader.
8. Soukoku/SKK: Literally meaning and often translated in official English releases of various entries in the series as “Double Black”, Soukoku is the name given to Dazai and Chuuya as a duo whenever they worked together as partners in crime; however, in the fandom, it is also more often than not the name used to signify a perceived — usually romantic — relationship (or in fandom terms, simply “ship”) between the two. Other names used for this pairing include but are not limited to “Double Black”, “SKK”, “DaChuu”, “ChuuZai”, or just “Dazai x Chuuya”, although all of these except Soukoku’s shortened abbreviation, SKK, are far less common occurrences.
[Since apparently Tumblr has a lovely, lovely word limit to posts now, for General Fandom Terms, see the next post here. :)))))) Thanks.]

Learning With Manga: Riyo’s Udon Servants
Y’know, for a gag manga, Riyo has put in a lot of thought obscuring his Servant’s identities and giving out only hints throughout the comic’s run. The first three Servants (Rider, Assassin and Berserker) had their biographies spelled out in the print bookbut not their actual names (not that it’s needed, the hints were big enough).
I’m saying Udon Servants because they were apparently made by mixing Udon dough with Grail mud.
Due to the ridiculous amount of images, I’ve added a cut.
EDIT: I posted this without the cut. Oops. EDIT 2: Changed some wordings
Rider
Tumblr media
Okay, pastel-colored bunnygirl. No specific identity tied to a rabbit (that I know of) so her appearance is a red herring. Could be anyone at this point.
Tumblr media
Passion for filmmaking. There are a lot of influential movie people throughout history from old to new. At least the set equipment implies a director.
Tumblr media
Severe hatred of Thomas Edison? Well, I guess that narrows it down to more old-timey directors. Back in his time he screwed over a lot of people, including many foreign filmmakers by plagiarizing their works.
Tumblr media
A Trip to the Moon? There’s only one director who has that in his repertoire and that is Georges Méliès. That probably explains her outfit as a the rather-tangential nod to moon rabbits. Her Noble Phantasm is apparently a loooot of her film reels...made out of very volatile nitrate (which destroys Chaldea in the process). She also references older films like Purple Noon when chatting with Olga.
Assassin
Tumblr media
Okay, woman with a gun, presumably with lingerie? Perhaps she’s a secret agent, or a modernized take on those assassin seductresses. Throughout the comic she’s shown to be adept with information gathering.
Tumblr media
Definitely affiliated with spycraft. I don’t know any woman involved in such line of work (the one female secret agent I know is Nancy Wake, who isn’t). However this is Fate and genderswaps can be a thing. That O&C provides a pretty big hint to her identity. According to Google, it can stand for “Official and Confidential” affiliated with the one and only J. Edgar Hoover. Y’know, now that her identity is revealed in that tweet above, the comic’s art style makes it vague whether she’s really a genderswap or just crossdressing. Yes, the FBI did have a brief history of crossdressing to catch perps. Too bad her Noble Phantasm is practically useless to those who don’t care about keeping secrets.
Tumblr media
It’s kinda funny how Riyo gives all his Servants personality quirks, like Melies’ seething hatred to Edison and occasional lapses to violent solutions. I guess this quirk is meant to be more “gap moe”, kinda like that Yakuza househusband? It’s really endearing. Still, I think Olga scored a keeper. In a standard Grail War she can be pretty useful if deployed correctly (and maybe easier to work with than Mata Hari).
I like her suit, I hope it’s one of her ascensions.
Berserker
Tumblr media
Woah, she big. There are a lot of significant giants in mythology, and her modernized appearance provides less hints than expected. She ate Nursery Rhyme several pages later and becomes a mainstay in the Children’s Kingdom.
Tumblr media
Keep in mind this is before All the Statesmen event on JP, but that blue ox(?) is a clear indicator to who she is: Paul Bunyan, North American folklore figure. This doesn’t come off as a surprise to us since we already had said event spelling it out for us. Unlike her murderous portrayal in the comic though, in-game she’s a total sweetheart who just wants to help...by terraforming any wild terrain in the name of civilization.
Lancer
Tumblr media
We first see Lancer impaling Gudako in a comic. The folks in the livestream joked that she’s genderswapped Van Helsing. It seems to make sense, showing that spike. But they clarified that it was a joke so that’s out of the window.
Tumblr media
Something of value? She’s referring to fossils. What about the lightning? It’s a reference to her real life counterpart who survived a lightning strike. That’s right, this woman is Mary Anning! A servant who’s not a genderbend this time!
Tumblr media
Totally a raging lesbian. I’m not sure if that’s historical, a reference to a recent biopic, or merely a personality quirk. Maybe it’s an extrapolation to her network of women. One of her skills (Sea Lily Charisma) does let her attract women to help her out. Her canine companion is very cute, at least.
Tumblr media
She does have a point. As a Lancer she wields giant prehistoric fish. From the speculation I saw on Reddit, I think it might be a reference to a manga/doujin of her being a mage and can summon living counterparts of her fossil. Her Noble Phantasm wasn’t showed because she got tag-teamed by two Sabers before she got to use it.
Archer
Tumblr media
A cowgirl! There are quite a few notable wild west legends like Billy the Kid. This one looks like she has animal ears, or just really weird hair. Using a rope and lasso is indicative of “generic cowgirl”, for a Heroic Spirit to wield it means she must be known for using it.
Tumblr media
Coyotes, huh? That pretty confirms it: this cowgirl Archer is Pecos Bill, raised by coyotes and most famous for lassoing a tornado (then riding it). According to the print book, one of her personal skills is Rodeo, which allows her to ride something and not fall off (but it’s in no way similar to the Riding skill). Yeah, being raised by coyotes pretty much translates to coyote animal ears...and feral instincts.
I remember reading on Reddit that one of Bill’s feats is shooting down stars, so that might be why she’s an Archer. Riyo sure is drawing from a lot of western influences.
Saber
Tumblr media
Well this is a curveball. The very distinct attire should narrow it down though I don’t know which culture seems most appropriate. While there are more than a few pregnant women in mythologies, the comic clarifies that the real Servant is the unborn baby and the mother is just tagging along.
Tumblr media
Well, that’s certainly something. I remember reading somewhere that back in the old ages, saunas are used instead of hospitals for childbirth in snowy regions of Europe. The unborn Servant has a Courtship skill that causes him to hit on almost every female he comes across.
There are a lot of guesses for his identity, one of which is Väinämöinen. A demigod who spent a very long time in the womb, can speak while in there, and was born an old man. The evidence feels shaky and debate rages on.
Caster
Tumblr media
Jesus Christ, Jeanne, what are you doing?! I just added this page because it’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
Mouse maids! A miracle that they survived getting chopped up into bits! It’s rather vague on who they are, guesses include the Rolling Riceball (which is just Benienma’s story) and Ratatouille, funnily enough. Most of their appearances so far is just pandering for Gudako (giving Onigiri, enabling the WiFi, providing Dakimakuras) as an effect of one of their Personal Skills (Servitude).
Their profile says that this isn’t their true form (maybe as a consequence of getting turned to noodles). Their Territory Creation should allow them to make a dreamland and provide anything, but for now all they can make is a good-enough kitchen and onigiri.
Tumblr media
Another Personal Skill is Reproduction, which allows them to rapidly increase their numbers when left alone. Nonstop. This can get out of hand fast. People in the comment section were speculating various rat-related myths, primarily ones with a swarm theme.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although it seems the rats are up to something.
Tumblr media
Well that’s terrifying. A guy on Reddit assumed that the mice is connected to Raigo, the accursed monk. I thought it was a very dark take on a folklore/fairy tale, something about mice fattening up someone to eat them.
Tumblr media
Okay, the mallet and the sack is definitely a clue. Apparently that represents Daikokuten, who is frequently portrayed with mice near him. I understand what they were trying to do. All this time they were trying to build up for their true power. A god of good fortune and/or prosperity is not to be messed with, especially if he’s currently incarnating RIyo Gudako as a pseudo-servant.
I think their Modus Operandi is pretty horrifying, yet also makes sense. A Master cannot simply summon a god under normal circumstances but summoning its herald(s) who, in turn, will make way for their patron deity seems totally fair.

Studio Trigger Christmas Stream: Q and A Highlights
Merry Christmas, y’all!
Trigger just finished up their holiday live-drawing stream with Hiroyuki Imaishi; you can view the VOD here.
I composed a non-verbatim transcript of the stream that might never be properly cleaned up, but here are some highlights! Promare spoilers!
❊ So, in the original storyboard, when Lio and his gangs are escaping from prison, there was a scene where Vulcan confronted Lio.  It would progress to an aerial combat scene!  It was even cleaned up by Yoshinari, but it was never used.  It's unfortunate!  I hope that was a satisfying answer, ymzk [sp?].
So, for folks who have seen Promare multiple times, that might have been a fine addition to the film.  However, if you're watching Promare for the first time, adding another fight scene would have probably tipped off the balance of the film entirely.  It would have been too overwhelming.  It was a balance issue that they omitted the scene for.
For those folks who are interested in checking out the storyboard for the aerial combat scene, Wakabayashi says that it will likely be included in the storyboard book that is planned to be released in the future.  Check that out!
❊ Okay, so, the question was, “How do you work with the posing for the characters?” The question was obviously for Imaishi.  Imaishi says that he tries to pose himself.  He doesn't really look at the mirror, but he tries to hold a toy gun or reenact the scene that he's drawing.  That usually helps him provide the character with a more dynamic pose.
I was curious, too. I wanted to add on to this question.  I took Imaishi out to a shooting range a while ago.  It was his first time shooting a pistol. I wondered if that helped how he animates guns shooting.  He said no, but it gave him a new perspective on the weight of the gun, the recoil, etc.  The tl;dr is that Imaishi tries to reenact the scenes himself, though.
So, the next question was, “What was the thought process on the 4DX with the smells?”  So, I'm not sure if it applies to the overseas 4DX.  I don't even know if 4DX was available out of Japan.  But there was a smell when Lio's Burnish armor came off.  For that scene, it was a scene where they wanted to make it a surprise that the person under the armor was such an attractive young man.  You would expect someone more intimidating, not pleasing, so they wanted to emphasize the surprise aspect of the situation with the smell.
So, apparently the dubbed version that is apparently being screened in Japan is a screening exclusive and will not be on the Blu-ray/DVD package.  So, if you haven't seen the dub yet, now is your chance!
We at Trigger were pretty involved in the voice-dubbing procedure.  We made a lot of revisions and a lot of requests.  Specifically, with Galo's voice actor, we went through a lot.  Originally, Hiromi wanted a very kabuki-esque vocal personality for Galo.  That would be near impossible to explain to an American voice actor, I said.  I said, “I don't think it's possible!”  We changed our approach.  We said, “How about 21 Jump Street? How about Channing Tatum?”  That was more understandable to people in the US!  After we said we wanted someone like Channing Tatum, we got what you saw in the theaters!  That's a bit of backstory on the dubbing process!
So, the question was if it is possible to get the dubbed version of Promrae in local theaters.  Hiromi says that you have to let the local theaters know that there are demands.  That's easier than Trigger telling the particular theater that there's demand.
So, this question was about the part near the climax in Promare. The scene is about Lio and Galo. The questioner notes how dramatic this scene was and asks about how many revisions had to happen.
The answer is that the last bits of the film were done by Yoh Yoshinari.  No revisions had to happen.  It doesn't get much better than Yoshinari's frames. The answer is no.
The Blu-ray package retake, or the upgrade, doesn't have any particular scenes redrawn. It's just refined.  It's a straight-up upgrade.  There are no scenes that were altered.  A lot of the changes consist of the colors.
❊ Surprisingly, the characters of Meis and Gueira were actually added from the initial version of the storyboard!  They were initially a little more like the mob/background-ish characters.  In the initial version, Meis and Gueira... they probably had as much screentime as the old geezer Burnish who betrays and backstabs Lio.
There was a question about the secretary.  Was her screentime fiddled with?  The answer is no.  That character wasn't really fiddled with.
The next question was, “Will the edited version of the track used in the 'Gallant Ones' scene be included on the soundtrack?”  The answer is unfortunately no.
Next, “Is Lio ambidextrous because he uses both arms?” Hiromi says, “I guess so!”
Our next question is about Lio de Galon, Matoi Tech, etc.  Will any of those mechanical units be developed into toys?  Hiromi says that if there are any official modelmakers or toy makers who would like to make those toys for us, we are waiting for the offer!
I guess there's potential talk of the Matoi Tech as a plush toy, for whoever is interested in the action figure!
This question is from jetpotato [sp?]. This person was curious on what Krayzor X's actual name is!  If you've seen Promare, Krayzor X is just the name that Galo provides.  I myself was curious about this as well.  Hiromi seems very hesitant to provide this information.  He says that someday, he hopes they will provide that information.
❊There is a request from our viewers to have a comic or manga adaptation of Promare.  Hiromi says that's probably impossible to do.  What is Promare without its colors?  If they were to adapt Promare into a comic/publishing medium, whoever does that adaptation will have to see hell.  They will have to color each page and panel to the standards of Koyama!  That's a crapload of work for sure!
Imaishi says that if he were allowed, he would like to do the comic book adaptation. However, if he did it, it would probably take ten years for it to be completed.  That wouldn't be helpful for the fans!  Perhaps they could make it a two-page comic!  But that would be closer to an illustration, perhaps.
The initial plan for Promare was to make it visually pleasing for the viewers as an animated series or medium.  It's very hard to adapt that to a non-motion comic or manga type of presentation.
There's an illustration that Sushio did, I guess.  There are “mystery food” that the characters are eating.  A person was curious about what foods the characters are eating.  Hiromi and Imaishi don't know, either!  When Sushio asked for an idea, he wanted to draw an illustration of the characters eating something.  Imaishi said that they could eat anything as long as it's kind of squares.  They got literal squares!  The characters are eating squares, and we can't tell what they are!  We thought it was a typical Sushio deal, but we don't know what they're eating!
Sushio is so good at drawing illustration.  Even if they're just eating square objects, it kind of looks convincing, which is weird!
There's another question regarding if there's going to be a novel adaptation of the film.  There's a short novel done by Nakashima that will be included in the limited edition of the Blu-ray package.  I think that's the closest that we're going to get for a novel!
There's a plan for a scenario script book.  We just lay out that, you know, it's very different from the finished product, which is the film that you're familiar with.  We just want to say that it's different, and any occurrence or alteration apparent in the scenario book is . . . uh, I guess, not official?
So, yeah, it's just... please take it with a grain of salt.  It's an asset used for the pre-production of Promare.  So, there are a lot of things that are different from the finished product.  In no way does it represent what Promare “should” be.

no bb i totally get what you mean it's so frustrating when us as writers get asks like "oh, can you write ___ story with ___ character instead?" or stuff like "can you rewrite this in ___ au?" like we're all here to just post about our interests and stuff we enjoy doing y'know? but respecting people's work is so important and it's just something people don't really think about and it's honestly really sad
and the mentality of some people who use other people's gifs/edits in their banners etc and claim that it's theirs because they made the banner themselves D: while it's true that they made the banner themselves some elements of the banner are still done by other people from which they didn't ask permission from? it doesn't matter if you make gifs or edit pictures or colour manga panels or write,, all kinds of work deserve respect and credit. no one likes their work stolen by other people and as someone who only recently learned about the importance of crediting, i did some reverse image searches on google and 90% of them brought me back to tumblr,, which is the exact same site they post "their" media and i'm here just questioning like what??? it's basic respect to give credit, and if making these media are so easy, just do it yourself so that you don't have to worry about asking for credit
yeah.. i don’t get how hard it can be to put yourself in other people’s shoes?? do you know how much work and time is put into the content? do you want people to steal your content? do you want people to change your content when you love it as is? do they realize how hard it is to be ~creative~?
ideas are sacred and not everyone can physically manifest their thoughts. the amount of effort necessary to do that is definitely one that should be commended, and the people who are able to do so are even more so amazing.
i really respect writers. even if headcanons, short scenarios, and smaus seem easy and/or simple at first glance, it is actually very difficult. i don’t care if a writer tells me the process was easy and quick. to me, as someone who had a try at creative writing, that shit was not easy. i’m actually someone who enjoys reading longer fics (which is apparently an unpopular opinion on tumblr i think) and i- >.> if you write long fics, you are automatically a god/ess to me; you have the hands of god i stg. omg shit and the POWER you guys have when you’re able to make me cry when the fic is only like idk, 300 words long? god-tier! i read this one writer’s works on quotev and they do exactly that and i just love them sm.
omg right!! this is why i always try to look for official material to work with. i go on the animanga’s official (japanese) websites to get my stuff because i don’t want to accidentally take something fanmade (that may look official bc people are just THAT good). and fr, it’s literally the same site.... -.- i’m glad that tumblr lists the op’s username when people use their gifs from the ‘gif’ function !! did you know we also get a notif when people do that lol the way i get so happy when people choose to use my gif lmfao im lame T.T but when people use my gif w/o credit and/or permission outside of the ‘gif’ function.. that just hits differently. and yeah, make your own if you don’t want to credit fjdsjkfs
thank you so much for reaching out to me with your thoughts and i hope you won’t have to suffer furthermore w/ the disrespect but sigh, some things don’t change. i just hope you come out stronger each time something like this happens to you!! <3

For those of you who have no idea what this is, check out this post right here.
For December, every weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) will feature the work of the chosen content creators. I hope you’re as excited as me for the awesome content! Please consider supporting those creators and showing them appreciation and love, after all this is the whole point of this event!
Meet Week 3′s Creators!
The awesome @empress-nariko!
Bio:
Avid fanfiction reader-writer-lover of Kakashi/Sakura. Lover of culture and history.  I’ve been reading and writing fanfiction since the late 90’s and it didn’t take me long to get hooked! I have so many interests from reading and writing to gardening to travelling and learning about other cultures. The Japanese culture has long been a favourite of mine, and of course, watching anime and following a few fandoms keeps me busy during my free time. These days, I stick to my main addiction: Kakashi/Sakura and I just love writing about them! Relevant Profiles: AO3 | FFnet
The wonderful @mshiroi!
Bio:
MitsukiShiroi, 30, F. I discovered fan fiction back in 2004 and became one of the very first ItaSaku writers to publish on ff.net. Since then I've been writing ItaSaku fan fictions off and on for the last 15 years. In my spare time, I like to read, write, travel and bake.
Relevant Profiles: AO3
The fantastic @dimigex!
Bio: I am a writer that’s kind of all over the place. I write mostly in the Naruto fandom (particularly in KakaSaku and Kakayama) but I have a soft spot for rare pairs as well (Genma/Sakura and Tenzo/Anko are two of my favourites with the former having far too many works by me lol). Honestly, I can ship just about anything as long as it’s written well and I like the challenge of rare pairs. I have also dabbled in the Fullmetal Alchemist and have recently fallen into Overwatch hell and posted a single story from it (though I’ve written half a dozen already and not edited).
As a writer, I’d say I’m probably mostly comfortable with angst though sometimes I can surprise you with a teeth rotting amount of fluff as well. I live for big feelings so drunken confessions, fights, brushes with death, and grief are some of my favourite themes/tropes. I accept requests, but sometimes I’m horribly slow at filling them. Usually, I post a response within 48 hours or six months, there’s no in-between apparently lol. And I’m always happy to chat about writing and ideas for stories!  Relevant Profiles: AO3 | FFnet | ko-fi
And last but not least…
The Sweet @doctorcapaldy!
Bio:
I’m Lisa, a 22-year-old Communication Designer from Germany. I've been illustrating since 2011. When I was in 5th grade I started reading the Naruto manga, but I lost focus on it. Since Netflix recently added the anime my passion for Naruto started anew and now I'm drawing a lot of fanart, mainly Kakashi and Kakasaku, but also other characters. Almost everything I say has either an ironic or sarcastic undertone. My friends know me for my flat jokes, haha. Also, I fucking love cacti. And, dragons? I love those too. I drew a lot of them when I was younger, but kinda stopped when I began to study. If you wanna know more or got a drawing request, or commission me, shoot! I love meeting new people!

shikuta @ lj on Why Ryo decided to leave Kanjani8
That edition of bunshun that came out this March has been proved to be 100% correct (from the timing, to the decision itself, to what he said) so it's not like there's much more left to say, just pieces to scrap all together. And this is my theory. The points bunshun made with that article have been: 1. Ryo wanted not to quit alone at first but to get everyone to quit KANJANI, the reason being the group not being able to keep up the usual the standards after what happened with Subaru and Yasu's situation; 2. Some members agreed on going hiatus, none of them on leaving; 3. Since that decision Ryo has been in bad blood with both Yoko and Hina, to the point of Yoko saying 'I can't work with that jerk anymore!' 4. The final decision has been made in March From now on it's just a matter of fixing our timeline using the infos we do know. 1. Subaru leaves, Ryo is the first one to regroup the members and decides to take the lead. He's still on board with having a six members group: plans an entire concert with six people in mind and even creates an extra for a single release. No problems in sight, tour still has to start. 2. Tour preparation is over and tour begins, we're around mid-September if I don't remember wrong. Ryo is is still on board with the band, does the majority of opening speeches, seems to have no problems to cover for Subaru simply by splitting his lines between himself/Yasu/Maru. Tour is at the beginning. 3. Around December/January (I suppose, since KJ8 clearly stated they had around 5/6 meetings about the issues and I like to think the split them in two months, at best) Ryo announces his decision to leave, to be official then in March. Six months have passed, so what could've changed? Directing that concert, that's what has changed. Many fans, and even Kanjani, talked about how both KJ8 and Ryo had different opinions about the direction the band should've taken, with basically KJ8 being 'yes' and Ryo being 'no'. None of them, however, even bothered to mention the reasons behind this point of views. If Yasu was fine and KJ8 had found a way to replace Subaru (as we saw them during during GR8EST) then why Ryo felt the need to split them up? Mind you that at first he didn't say he wanted to leave as a member, but that he wanted them to leave as a group, as a whole, while also keeping their positions in the agency. My best guess is that, while directing and organizing GR8EST he realized the limitations the group had to face due Yasu's condition and the astounding amount of stress they were putting on him. That's why the decision came midway the live and not before; that's why he proposed the group to quit all together, that's why (but I'll explain this later) he didn't even leave a note when he left. He realized KJ8 had nowhere to go without putting Yasu at risk and probably told the others 'well, that's it. We've already reached our peak, now let's quit before doing any disasters'.
And from this point on, hell got loose. According to the article both Hina and Yoko had ATROCIOUS fights with Ryo, with the two of them probably being in favor of keeping the band as it was and Ryo instead suggesting for them all to disband before it were too late. The fights kept going on and you could almost, barely taste them even during the varieties: during the whole year Ryo and Yoko almost never interacted with each other except when asked to; the last Telehone Game happened in January (back when he told them all his decision), after that no more. None of the two factions reached a compromise and so, by the end of march, Ryo announced his decision: not in order to go solo but to not betray his principles and part of the promise he made to Subaru. A band that keeps moving forward while sitting on the back of an ill guitarist should not exist. By the time Ryo left in September, KJ8 went once again against his suggestion of taking things slowly, and decided instead to start a 47 tour so improvised and desperate they didn't even have the venues booked per time. Ryo took this last blow and left without even a note or a sign of life on his jweb. This, in my opinion, also explain how does it come both KJ8 and Ryo gave almost no explanations or kept things vague at best: for KJ8 it would mean to admit they're trying to carry on while also overworking a man that is in deep pain; and for Ryo would admit spitting on the whole group. So, no press conference for them all together, really vague interviews to the point even Jin (Akanishi on twitter) pointed out how pointless they were and Ryo being out of the door in one day and with almost zero explanations. Honestly this seems to be the most reasonable explanation to me.

2nd reply by shikuta @ lj
Point is... members proposed to go hiatus. If you manage to get your hands on previous ANN episodes you'll hear Ohkura talking about how in the past, some members proposed to stop activities for a while. Some of them agreed, Ohkura included, some others did not. Ryo was certainly in favor. One of the first Boku, actually, had Yasu talking about concert preparations for GR8EST, how at some point he told to the members, crying, that he didn't feel like he was up for this tour, that he didn't want to take any part on it. Again, some members agreed on stopping this carousel, Yoko and Hina did not. Tour was made. So, it's not like Yasu's opinion held really any value in this particular stance: deciding whether to put a group on a stop is a decision that the band as a whole should made. Ryo tried to get them to this point, considering Yasu's health, two of them were deaf apparently and decided to carry on, hence Ryo had enough and left. It's really simple as that. Because, let's be honest here, Yasu is not fine, will never be fine. Don't let J&A fool you, they're going to work this horse to the death. It's been two years since the surgery and he still does experience both phono and photophobia. Can't sit on an hard chair without a cushion. Had to drop scuba-diving. The network has been forced to change a lot of Chronicle segments simply because Yasu wasn't up to the task anymore: no more long walks for the 'looks like this/is like that' segment, no more Dodge Game, no more Ikemen Camera. They put, instead, segments where he can sit and talk, like the cuisine one or the manga panel or the one with guests talking around a table. All those moments you've seen during concerts, the so called 'Yasuda Moments' are simply speech impediments, him forgetting words, confusing similar sounds. 'Post surgeries moments' that still affects him and probably will never entirely leave. All of this would pose no treat for your average office worker that is back to work after a year of rehab. But for a machine that is programmed to jump, to sing, to run, to play, to move from one location to the other, months after months, your doc's definition of 'fine' holds no meaning. Yasu knows that, Ryo knew that, Yoko and Hina knew that, the youngest ones knew that as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We're one year post surgery and three months after personal hiatus when this happened. The man that according to KJ8 and the agency is 'fine' has even trouble to carry the weight of his own guitar. Has to move, take a deep breath and relax shoulders in order to dissipate the pain. Ryo's eyes, trained on him, notice all of this and take a mental note to tell others to slow a bit. KJ8's response, the day after he leaves, is a simple 'fuck it, we going touring again you asshole'

In light of the holiday and my need to Pretend Everything is Fine™ after the latest manga chapters... Have some Halloween crack for one of my fave volley duos (if you don’t mind a few f-bombs and college shenanigans; no other warnings):
A Super Saiyan Halloween 🎃
Screeeeech! Screech! Screeeech!
“Shit!” Kuroo’s steepled legs fell flat to the rug as his heart jumped out of his damn skin. He had been sitting at the foot of his bed, studiously looming over the chemistry textbook he’d propped up on his knees. Now, however, he was scrambling to his feet, whirling toward the source of the unearthly noises coming somewhere behind him.
Screech! Screech!
The banshee shrieks were apparently emanating from…his pillow? Then he saw it: his phone, the screen alight with…an image of a horned owl. “Fucking. Bokuto.” Sometimes he hated his roommate almost as much as he loved him.
Kuroo snatched up his phone to silence the mournful warbles blasting through his room. “A squawking owl—really?!” He ran a hand through the overhang of his bangs.
“Broooo, c’mon!” Bokuto’s voice boomed through his phone’s speaker, somehow just as earsplitting as the owl cries that Bo had, apparently, personalized as his ringtone. “First of all, it’s a Screech Owl. Second of all, it’s festive! All spooooky and shit, right?” He let out a thunderous laugh.
Kuroo scrubbed a hand down his face as his heart rate slowly leveled off, fighting to keep the grin off his lips. “Alright, asshole. Now that you’ve successfully gotten me to dropkick my chem book into the wall…” His dark eyes jumped to the point of impact, glaring at the dent that would’ve definitely cost him his safety deposit...
...If, ya know, Bokuto hadn’t already seen to that by ricocheting a spike off Kuroo’s ass into the damned ceiling the actual, literal, for-real first week of classes! Kuroo had been sound asleep, simply enjoying a face-down catnap on the too-small couch in the living/dining space of their ‘student athlete’ dorm. But apparently Kuroo’s fine ass had proven too sweet a target for Bokuto to resist....
Kuroo bit down a laugh, he’d add the latest dent to Bokuto’s ever-growing damages tab.
Then again… Kuroo might have retaliated to the ass-spiking incident by creeping into their shared bathroom while Bokuto was showering…and dumping several tray’s worth of ice cubes onto Bo’s stupid owl head. Which, in turn, may have resulted in Bokuto’s flailing himself into a tangle with the shower curtain...and wrenching the entire damned curtain rod from the drywall…. Then Bo—soaking wet, still-sudsy, a towel barely clinging to his hips—might have torn after a cackling Kuroo, pelting him with an arsenal of toiletry bottle projectiles...until they’d turn their dorm into veritable a slip-n-slide with all the spilt shampoo and shower gel....
Their dorm still smelled faintly of Old Spice, and duct tape was still the only thing keeping their shower curtain up—their first week of college had been a bit of a shitshow.
Kuroo might have snorted if he hadn’t slapped his knuckles to his lips. “What do you want, Bo?” he snickered.
“Bro, bro, bro!!” Bokuto began anew, his voice going quieter, more conspiratorial, with each ‘bro,’ “I know what we’re doing for Halloween.”
Now Kuroo let his grin spread unrestrained. He’d been waiting for this. They had the team’s unofficially-official annual Halloween party next weekend, and, per tradition, everyone on the team but the seniors was required to participate in the costume contest, either alone or in pairs. Naturally, being the dream team that they were, he and Bo were entering together. And they were going to win.
“Oya?”
“Oya, oya!” Bokuto shouted. “Check your texts!”
The photos arrived a moment later; Kuroo’s eyebrows shot up. “Oh-ho-ho!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, this was going to be good….
So I was totally gonna write this thing—I mean, check my sweet-ass collages! Instead, I scratched this out, uh, just now...after my neighbors plied me with their amazing autumn sangria while we passed out candy. Shhh, don’t judge me. 😂 Obvs not really edited or finished, but I wanted to post something festive. 🎃 Here’s where dis shit was supposed to go (and might still one day):
Bokuto booming out “KAKAROOOOT” at Kuroo every chance he gets (even though Bo’s Gohan, not Vegeta).
Kuroo calling Bokuto “Son” all damn night.
Bokuto painting a volleyball blue…for the sole purpose of shouting “KAAAMEEEHAAAMEEEHAAAAAA!!” while spiking it at people throughout the evening. What could possibly go wrong??
Bokuto roping the next 🦉 captain into it as well: “You can be Vegeta, Akaashi, I’ll gel your hair up like mine and—! ” “Bokuto-San, I don’t even go to your college, I can’t participate in your team’s costu—” “Just come! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE—!” “Fine, Bokuto-san! …Fine… But no spandex.”
(More of my 🍷 bullshit  beneath the cut, ft. Kenma and Tsukki.)
Tumblr media
Bo and Kuroo harassing Tsukki into coming with Akaashi because “TSUKKI YOU’RE BLONDE—YOU’RE PRACTICALLY A SUPER SAIYAN ALREADY!” Tsukki’s deadpan: “Not a chance.” “…But you’re still coming, right?” “…Only to see the campus and the team.”
Kuroo halfheartedly lamenting the fact that Kenma isn’t a party animal since he could have been an awesome Trunks if he’d dyed his hair purple—his roots need a touch-up anyways—and slapped a Capsule Corp logo to his phone.
Bo aiming that Kamehameha ball at multiple asses throughout the night (mostly Kuroo’s, Tsukki’s, and Akaashi’s ofc). Akaashi, gesturing vaguely at his chest after Bokuto just made him spill half his drink down his shirt: “Bokuto-san, you really ruined a perfectly good volleyball for this…?”
Bo getting “philosophical” several drinks in like: “AKAASHI!! What do you think would happen if I spiked a Dragon Ball, like, for real??” Akaashi stares into his Solo cup for a long moment, wondering if this is really what his life has come to, then downs half his drink. It’s not strong enough.
Alright. That’s it. This concludes my tipsy Halloween bullshit. Highfives to anyone who made it this far (🙌🏻), and here’s the panel that got me on this bullshit, colored Super Saiyan on my iPhone. 😹 Happy Halloween, ya’ll.

BnHA Chapter 240: PLIFF
Previously on BnHA: Shigaraki “Thanos” Tomura gleefully reduced an entire city to dust while laughing maniacally. You know, villain things. He almost turned Re-Destro to dust as well, but Re-Destro got around that by chopping off his own legs. Like it was no big. I still haven’t quite managed to process that yet. Anyway, so everyone was real impressed by Tomura at this point, because how could you not be, and to sum things up, Re-Destro basically accepted him as his lord and savior and handed the Meta Liberation Army over to him. So now Shigaraki Tomura, noted crazy person and heir to All for One’s empire, who has just upgraded his quirk so as to be able to destroy basically anything within an unknown range without even having to touch the thing directly, and who has also pledged to destroy the entire world, has an army. And he also has Gigantomachia, who was watching him all hearts-in-eyes while he did his thing. So all in all this has been a very productive arc for the League of Villains. And meanwhile, the League of Everyone Else may want to think about changing their name to “League of People About To Be Incredibly Fucking Screwed.”
Today on BnHA: The League of Villains, in what is clearly the best rebranding move since New Coke, renames itself the “Paranormal Liberation Front”, a.k.a. PLF, a.k.a. PLIFF because that’s what it instantly became in my head and you can’t stop me. Among PLIFF’s Finest is newly initiated member Hawks, whose mystery bag is finally confirmed to have contained exactly what we all thought it was going to contain. I don’t even want to talk about that. I’m still in denial. But also weirdly thrilled. I’m terrible. Anyway, so Hawks is all “:) we’re fucked,” agreeing with the consensus the general fandom has come to over the past week, and palling around with his new best friend Dabi as he frantically tries to come up with some kind of plan. Maybe the heroes can try rebranding themselves as “the Supernatural Emancipation Cavalry.” That wouldn’t really solve anything, but it’d be funny to watch the villains come to realize they’re being mocked. Sorry but y’all brought this on yourselves.
(All comments are my unspoiled reactions from my initial readthrough of the chapter. I did a quick edit for grammar and clarity immediately afterward, and added a few ETAs in the process, but aside from that there are no changes.)
so I received an ask from a very kind anon warning me to be careful of spoilers for this chapter. thank you, anon! rest assured that I have been very cautious, and am pleased to inform everyone that I’m diving in spoiler-free this week. so bring on your Kacchan hero names, your Best Jeanist heads, your new Deku quirks, and whatever other twists you want to toss my way, manga. but especially that first one. this arc has been fantastic, but now that it’s wrapping up, I miss my kids and I would like to check in with them soon. they grow up so fast and time is precious
so apparently the title for this chapter is “Power”, which could mean lots of things, but I imagine it’s not something that bodes well for our heroes. honestly does anything bode well for them at this point. they’re not having much luck on the boding front
oh cool, a time jump! so this is apparently now one week after “the deadly battle.” wow, way to sum everything up in the blandest terms possible while still being accurate. like, yeah, that is what it was, but somehow it doesn’t quite communicate the full magnitude of what actually went down, you know?
anyway so the town basically looks like it got hit by a fucking meteor
Tumblr media
new crack theory that a time-traveling Shigaraki Tomura is what actually killed the dinosaurs
wow would you fucking look at this
Tumblr media
I guess this is the BnHA version of “an unfortunate training exercise”
also I like how they didn’t think it would be believable that one sleepy boi could cause all of this destruction, so they amped it up to twenty fucking guys instead. sob. why did they even bother giving Tomura an army. he is an army
lol the bullshit continues
Tumblr media
“reporting to you live from Deika City, an innocent and wholesome country town in no way affiliated with an extreme right-wing quirk supremacist movement, where citizens recently found themselves victims of an entirely unprovoked attack by no fewer than twenty, and definitely more than six, villains. the brave citizens proceeded to fight them off, and definitely killed them all and didn’t surrender to them and elect their leader as their new god. also the president of Detnerat just happened to be there. just coincidentally. he definitely was not the one who instigated the entire thing. when asked for comment, Mr. Yotsubashi responded, quote, ‘nonsense, I’m no hero. would you call a man a hero just because he fought off an army of villains alone and selflessly sacrificed his own legs to ensure that justice prevailed? would you call that heroic? poppycosh. that’s just the kind of man I am. I wouldn’t call myself brave. ‘humble,’ maybe. ‘handsome’, perhaps. but a hero? no. I’m just an everyday, all-around good type of person, that’s all.’ so there you have it. truly a courageous figure. a gallant example of truly stellar fortitude and virtue. we need more Yotsubashi Rikiyas in these trying times. back to you, Jeff”
anyway, so the media in BnHA. fairly gullible, huh?
so now the report is concluding with a statement that the investigation is still ongoing. uh huh. damn they really got away scot-free with all this, huh
and we’re cutting to a close-up of sushi! oh my god. Compress have your dreams finally come true at last
yesssss oh my god. I’m so happy for him
Tumblr media
(ETA: on my second read-through I paid attention to try to see whether or not Compress had finally gotten a new robot arm, but it’s impossible to tell. he’s only using his right hand here, and later on when he goes on stage with the rest of them he’s wearing his usual trenchcoat and gloves. I’m just gonna assume he finally got the upgrade he wanted, though. nice to see you so content, Mister I-Ran-Around-A-Lot.)
excuse me, what, Dabi? he didn’t even do anything?? as opposed to you, who basically just set yourself on fire and glared at Frogurt for half a dozen chapters?? don’t hurt yourself climbing back down from that high horse you punk
lol what
Tumblr media
I don’t even have to scroll down to the rest of this page to immediately know this is some bullshit. she’s not dead. out of everyone in the League she’s probably third most important after Tomura and Mr. You-Didn’t-Even-Do-Anything above. her quirk is too plot-critical for her to actually be dead. you’re not gonna kill off the ONLY GIRL IN THE LEAGUE OF VILLAINS, either. Horikoshi who do you even think you’re fooling
ah, yep
Tumblr media
Togaaaaaaaaa omg. I’d hug you but you’d stab me. but I’m so happy to see you my precious baby girl
and it actually makes sense for Twice to be mourning the clone, though, and I’m glad they showed it. because he of all people understands that the clone is the person to at least some degree. like, it’s nice that he doesn’t just view them as disposable and he respects them. he’s so nice omfg
anyway so it looks like he’s back to being crazy though
Tumblr media
oh well, it was nice while it lasted. at least he doesn’t appear traumatized anymore. and he has a boyfriend now too. where is Giran anyway
now fucking Skeptic is walking in like he’s on the set of a fucking sitcom
Tumblr media
[canned audience laughter]
nice touch on the following page with Hanabata starting to refer to Re-Destro as “The Supreme...” before catching himself and amending it to just “Re-Destro”
oh wow
Tumblr media
damn, LoV, y’all went from poverty straight to the .01%. talk about an upgrade
oh my god there’s a secret passage
Tumblr media
oh my god it leads to a secret basement
Tumblr media
trying not to think about the last time we were in a secret villain basement. this isn’t like that. relax. that arc is over now. deep breaths
holy shit
Tumblr media
this is like the fucking Mines of Moria. complete with a Balrog. jesus christ
omg look who got himself a BRAND NEW SUIT AND TIE ENSEMBLE oh shiiit
Tumblr media
is that a fucking fur-lined coat. Shigaraki Tomura has officially upgraded to KHR Villain status. what a little shit. I adore you, you son of a bitch
and I thought he destroyed all the hands?? come on dude, I know it’s like your signature look, but I was hoping we were going in a different direction from here on out. ah well
wow, Horikoshi
Tumblr media
just once. just once I would like this man to leave a plothole unaddressed for more than one page. god I love this manga
anyway so they’re fully lampshading the fact that this one hand somehow miraculously survived, and they’re all “I guess it’s his trademark, huh?” yep, that’s right. his lewk. now be quiet, you two. which of us is doing the recap here
so now RD is up on stage showing off the weirdest fucking wheelchair I’ve ever seen, and singing Tomura’s praises
Tumblr media
it’s remarkable how quickly his ego adapted to his brand new role as head of Tomura’s PR. he almost seems to be enjoying this more than when he was the leader
oh shit??
Tumblr media
A NEW NAME?? oh my god. edge of my seat. can’t wait. take it away boys
Tumblr media
LOOOOOOOL what
sob this makes it sound like they do ghost investigations. is there a League of Villains Buzzfeed Unsolved AU. this is what happens when you put the otaku in charge of the name
just. why paranormal. they thought it sounded cool?? and am I really supposed to type out PLF and not pronounce it like “pliff” in my head moving forward?? yeah, that’s not happening. you guys are now PLIFF. congratulations
thank god they’ve still got Tomura to lend legitimacy to this whole ridiculous operation. god, there’s something I never thought I’d say. Tomura why are you now the part of the League -- excuse me, PLIFF -- that I actually take the most seriously. god
Tumblr media
y’all heard the man. whatever we want. this is happening. just remember kid, you gave me permission
Tumblr media
holy shit you guys is that motherfucking Carvel!?!? I was staring at the panel all “WHO IS THIS” and wondering if they’d somehow brought Kizuki back to life, oh my god. I’m fucking dying send help. he looks like Galaxy Express 999. my brain is short-circuiting
anyway so everyone is all HOORAY WE LOVE THIS and they’re all cheering
HOMBGLKDF
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DSLFKSHDLGK HEY BOY, HOW ARE YOU LIKING BEING A MEMBER OF THIS NEW HERE VILLAIN CULT. WHERE’S THE FUCKING BAG, HAWKS
SDFKSJDLFKSDLKFH A FLASHBACK AHHHHHH
Tumblr media
I CAN’T TURN THE PAGE OH GOD NO SOMEBODY ELSE DO IT
OH MOTHERFUCKING SHIT
Tumblr media
my jaw just. fucking. -- -----------
okay Hawks. fucking explain. how did you do it. is it a fake?? surely it’s not the real deal?? oh god, the memes have now become terribly real. I have no choice but to embrace this with even more stupid jokes and memes as a coping mechanism or I’m gonna lose it
but for real, they didn’t seriously do my boy Jeanist like that. Paramount Optimal Jeanist did not survive a point-blank attack from motherfucking All For One just to get shanked by Hawks so that he could get good with PLIFF, only to be, and I quote, “too late...!”
(ETA: and on readthrough #2, Dabi does indeed bring up the fact that this might not actually be Jeanist’s corpse. “setting aside the issue of whether he is who you say he is...” so even he acknowledges that shenanigans could be afoot.
but he seems convinced it’s a real body at the very least. though did it never occur to you that he could have just picked it up from the morgue, dude? that’s gonna be my go-to theory for now at any rate.)
is now a good time for me to bring up something I’ve been wondering about for a while, which is how Bakugou is going to take this? yes, Bakugou. “okay makeste, I know he’s your favorite and I know you miss him, but what kind of mental cartwheels are you doing in order to make this situation with Hawks and PLIFF somehow relate to Bakugou Katsuki, whom we last saw twenty fucking chapters ago, and who has absolutely nothing to do with this?”
well I’m glad you asked, and you see, it’s because (a) the internship, and (b) because we already know Katsuki blames himself for at least one hero’s downfall as a result of what happened in Kamino, and I could easily see him having a similar response to Best Jeanist’s injury and subsequent disappearance. like, we already know this shit is all over the news. and Bakugou knows Jeanist personally. and so now what with him being missing, I can’t help but wonder if he’ll blame himself again for being the reason Jeanist was there at Kamino, and lost a lung, and so forth
and I realize this tangent is coming sort of out of left field, but seeing as this arc is finally wrapping up, and we can expect to cut back to the U.A. kids again soon, I just figured I’d bring it up now, because we’ll see if I’m right or not shortly
anyway. so let’s get back on topic. best dead Jeanist. oh god
but it seems like it did, at least, finally convince Dabi of Hawks’s sincere villainous intentions. so we have that one minor win, I guess. congratulations Hawks, now you know about the secret villain basement and their new rebranding. was it worth it you bastard
oh shit. actually, maybe it was. because now he understands just how incredibly screwed they are sob
Tumblr media
so he doesn’t know for sure about the Noumu yet. so Tomura still has that little ace up his sleeve. fucking great
but him knowing about the Detnerat thing is big, though. so now the heroes know not to trust any of their equipment, or any of their lackeys like fucking Slidin’ Go. that’s something, at least
and you gotta love the whole “equal to, if not greater than” bit, sob. never in my life have I ever seen something so egregiously understated. “Shigaraki might be more powerful than the heroes at this point” yeah, you think!? god
holy shit Re-Destro calm the fuck down
Tumblr media
Tomura’s telling him to get lost, and he’s immediately making himself scarce lol. good riddance
and Tomura is now kneeling dramatically and pounding his fist on the floor. okay
hey
Tumblr media
I take offense, sir. “League of Villains” had a timeless air about it. and more importantly, you couldn’t abbreviate it to the sound that someone makes when they plop down tiredly onto a couch
oh shit!!!!
Tumblr media
THIS LAST PAGE HAD BETTER BE A TERRIFYING PANEL OF THE HIGH END NOUMUS, OMG. I’M HOLDING MY BREATH
GODDAMMIT IT’S JUST ANOTHER SEXY CLOSEUP OF TOMURA’S FACE
Tumblr media
I mean, can you actually call it that at this point? can you actually “grant” something to someone if they already have more of it than they know what to do with?
but I mean, we know what he really means though, so fair enough
oh ffs now he’s saying “but first there’s something I’d like you to do for me” oh my god enough with these side quests!
he wants him to transport something, apparently. ARE YOU HATCHING SOME NEW SCHEME oh gosh
oh my god and meanwhile Hotwings is becoming canon right before our eyes holy shit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
of course!! he’s fucking thrilled!! everything is just!! so great!! right now!! :)!!!!!
oh my god Hawks
Tumblr media
“Endeavor, and everyone” I see what you did there kid
(ETA: and as far as I recall, Endeavor doesn’t even know about his undercover mission yet. I wonder how he’s going to react when he finds out. your adopted son is now best friends with your presumed-dead son! and in mortal danger omg.)
wow. wow. and that’s the end of the chapter. fucking shit
so! lots to process! Hawks really did it! the absolute madman!! and Dabi fucking loves him now, which is great, if you like things that inevitably end in tragedy. then that’s great for you. but otherwise I guess it’s not so great
so I wonder if our next arc will be the Undercover Hawks Antics arc, or if we’ll be getting back to Deku and the gang. I’m guessing the latter because it’s been a while, but it’s definitely exciting to see this particular plotline finally advancing and becoming more intricate
so basically I have no idea what to expect next week. which is amazing. I’m so fucking excited. now if Horikoshi could just leave us all a little pity disclaimer clarifying that no Jeanists were actually harmed in the making of this chapter and that it was all CGI or some shit, that would be great :/

Notes:
Important information for you to be aware of before you begin:
+This is a Levihisu fic - despite this, I would invite all shippers to read - I didn't realise I shipped them until I wrote this, either!
+This work was originally posted and is updated on Fanfiction.net, where it is currently at Arc 4. The version posted here is a re-edited, tidied up version.
+I have tried my absolute best to write AQR to run alongside the Manga; there are elements that I've tweaked from canon (timescales, for example) but right now, as of Chapter 119, I don't think there are any plot points which could be seen as diverging hugely from the realms of canon possibility (don't get me wrong, the events of the story are highly, HIGHLY unlikely to be anything like Yam's reveals to us in the Manga, but what I'm saying is they technically COULD be possible.)
+Following on from the above, this story WILL contain manga spoilers right up to the latest chapters - I highly recommend you don't read this unless you're familiar with these, one so that you're not spoiled, and two so that it makes a bit more sense!

CHAPTER 1: A Visitor at the Orphanage
Levi pulled his hood tighter around his sullen features and swept quietly along the path to the old farmhouse. There was a faint light drifting through the window, but the usual chatter of young, excitable voices was absent in the late evening air.
He reached the door and gave two swift knocks, before glancing behind him. He was alone still; good.
A moment later, the door cracked ajar, and one pale blue iris met his pale grey through the gap.
"Oh, Captain!" Historia pulled the door open the rest of the way to reveal her short figure, clothed in a plain dress more fitting of a lowly maid than royalty. "Hange told me to expect you."
"Good." Levi swept passed her into the hallway without invitation.
Historia closed the door softly and lead Levi through into the large dining area of the farmhouse. She gestured to one of the many worn, wooden chairs set at the table at the centre of the room. Levi sat, finally removing his hood.
"Tea?" Historia asked.
Levi inclined his head. "Are all of the brats asleep now? Or are we likely to be interrupted?" He raised an eyebrow at Historia, who rolled her eyes but smiled good-naturedly despite Levi's curt words. "They're all asleep. We're good. I'll make us a pot." With that, she disappeared into the adjoining kitchen.
Levi gave an inaudible 'tch' at her eye-roll; her confidence around him these days was far from the nervous demeanour of that honey-haired girl he had threatened in the dining room of a farmhouse not too dissimilar to this those four years ago. He was reminded of the playful punch to his arm she had given not so long after becoming Queen, and her daring him to retaliate. She had been right – what could he do about it, really? He may have once been her Captain and she his subordinate, but she was now his Queen. Check mate.
"I'm surprised you don't have people to make tea for you these days, Your Majesty." He made sure the sarcasm in his voice was especially evident. She may be the Queen, but he was still as difficult as he had ever been. Some things would never change.
Historia popped her head around the door frame, tea leaves in hand. "Surely you know me better that that, Captain? After all these years, and all that tea I brewed you when you helped me open this place!" She gave a soft chuckle before returning to her task. "Keep your voice down. What's the nature of this shady late evening visit, anyway?"
It was Levi's turn to roll his eyes this time. "I forgot how much you enjoy playing woman of the people." He paused, waiting for her retort from the other room. When none came, he continued. "We've uncovered information regarding the situation with Zeke, and the plans for your, ah … future."
Historia returned to the table, a tray of tea in her hands and a frown painted across her pretty features. "What sort of information? From who?"
Levi took a cup in his fingers from the tray she set down, avoiding the dainty handle, as was his way. He sipped quietly, before raising his eyes to meet Historia's across the table. "Premier Zackley and The government don't trust Zeke, and particularly this new-found secretive relationship with Eren." Levi sighed. "Honestly, I can't say I blame them completely; he certainly wouldn't be my first choice of ally." He placed the cup down and knitted his fingers together, elbows on the table.
Historia nodded her head and took a sip of her tea. "Go on, Captain."
"They grow very nervous. They dislike the fact that Zeke is a not a pawn in this game they can easily control. They do, however, have options to change this …" Levi glanced at Historia, trying to gauge her reaction, looking for any sign she understood where this conversation was heading.
"They want control over the Beast Titan. I imagine they'd also like to know a bit more about this 'secret plan' of Zeke's," Historia pointed out. She frowned. "The easiest way to achieve this, I think, would be to have a titan under their control consume Zeke, thus inheriting his power and memories …" She glanced back at The Captain, clearly looking for confirmation.
"So you're not just a pretty face then, Your Majesty. You've been paying attention." Levi sat back in his chair, and simply regarded the young woman before him for a moment.
It was now Historia's turn to give a small 'tsk' of annoyance. "Of course. It's my duty, isn't it?" Her eyes blazed fiercely across the table at the Captain. "So where do I fit into this?"
Levi raised his eyebrows at her. "Surely you know that answer?"
Historia hesitated, her dainty blond eyebrows knitted together in consideration. Suddenly, her eyes widened with realisation. "They want to replicate Zeke's circumstances exactly, using someone from Paradis. They need royal blood … My royal blood. Just like Eren said. They ... want me to transform into a Titan, and consume Zeke...?"
Levi nodded. "They've come back to that idea. Except they want to do it sooner, rather than later, so that everything is done to their terms rather than Zeke's. They think if we wait, he could betray us and use this secret plan for his own gains." He watched Historia gaze down into her now empty tea cup.
"I see." A small frown spread across her features. "So what would you have me do, Captain?" She lifted her eyes to his once again.
"I would not 'have' you do anything, Historia." Levi tried to keep his expression unreadable and his face flat. "Gone are the days where I can coerce you into doing what I believe is the right thing, as you once pointed out to me."
Historia gave a small laugh at that. "I think 'coerce' is putting it lightly, when you decided your hands around my throat were the best approach to 'coerce' me into becoming Queen."
Levi dismissed her last comment with a small flick of his hand, feeling the very faintest trace of guilt at his previous, very physical, methods with the girl. "Either way, this is your decision to make as Queen. Except, if you don't wish to become a Titan and consume Zeke, I honestly don't think a simple 'No' would do it. If they have to do it by force, I imagine they'd have no problem, considering the level of threat they believe Zeke to be."
"I don't particularly want to become a Titan Shifter, if I'm honest."
That is probably the understatement of the century, Levi thought, eyeing Historia's apparently calm exterior disbelievingly. He wondered whether she had always suspected this day might come.
"Do you think Zeke is a threat? Do you trust him?" She asked, her blue eyes searching his.
Levi sighed. "Do I trust him? Absolutely not. Do I think he's a threat? Potentially." He paused, turning his cup in its saucer absent-mindedly. "But do I think turning him into Titan food out of fear is the right thing to do?" He glanced at Historia, and for a second was sure he caught a glimmer of fear in the girl's eyes. "No, it's not. It's a knee-jerk reaction. And we are forgetting one very important element in all of this."
"Eren." Historia murmured.
"Yes. And while I confess that Jaeger can be an idiot at times - reckless and hot headed - I truly believe that his intentions are for the benefit of Paradis, and his comrades. I don't believe he would agree to go along with any detrimental plan Zeke may throw his way, and I don't believe, either, that he could be brainwashed or otherwise persuaded to change this. His will is too strong when he knows what he wants. He's too much of a titan sized pain in the ass, quite frankly." Levi put his head in his hands, suddenly reminded of the headache that the head strong Jaeger had personally caused him over the years. Yet it was somehow because of everything that they had been through together, that Levi still felt that he could trust Eren.
There was a small chuckle from across the table.
Levi looked up "What?"
"Nothing, Captain. It's just – you seem to be speaking from personal experience." Historia chuckled again.
"Hmph."Levi sat back and folded his arms.
"So, you think we're better off letting Zeke continue with his plan?" Historia was thoughtful. "Just go along with it? Because you trust Eren?"
"Erwin trusted Eren, and I trusted Erwin." Levi raised a hand to his temple. "I think, what we need, is time. I don't know what the right answer is, but I know turning you into a titan right now and consuming Zeke is not it."
Historia nodded, slowly. "Agreed, then. But you said saying 'No' is not going to cut it, right?" She folded her arms. "So how can I stop the government from physically forcing this on to me? What, are you going to be my personal body guard? I know you're Humanity's Strongest, Captain, but there's one hell of a lot more MPs than you."
Levi rolled his eyes. "Please. As though I'd have the time to hang out in some farmhouse drinking tea all day." He suddenly lent forward, his fingers steepled. "We've got to be smarter than that, Historia. We don't want them to think we're purposefully delaying their plans. How do you suppose we might do that?"
Historia raised an eyebrow quizzically. "I've no idea, Captain, but I feel as though you might be about to enlighten me?"
Levi tilted his head slightly, wondering how to best phrase what he needed to tell her next. He'd never been very good at this shit. "You're very important to the success of Paradis, Historia. The people love you. You're also the last of the Royal bloodline who is completely, undoubtedly loyal to this island. The government would never risk harming you ... or your offspring."
The Captain sat before Historia quietly, eyebrows raised, hoping that the emphasis placed on his last words would sink in.
"My … offspring?" Historia repeated back quietly. Suddenly, she snapped her head up to meet Levi's expectant gaze. "Wait, what? You want me to get pregnant!?"

Hey all, Dani here.
I love talking about books. It’s the reason why I started this book blog, but over the years I’ve tried to balance my love of reading with all of my other geeky passions and hobbies. Occasionally that means posting about non-bookish things on here. Honestly this is more like my little corner of the geek universe. Today is one of those days where I just feel this huge need to talk about not quite as bookish things.
I say not quite because today I’m talking about shows that I’ve been binge-watching or re-watching quite recently. However, I can also say that they all have books attached to them, so I’ll talk about both the show and the books that go along with it.
It’s kind of a shorter list, but I’m probably going to gush about most of these for a little bit so it’ll still be a decently sized post.
First off, I have to talk about “The Good Place.” This show just finished its four season run recently, and I’ve somehow managed to avoid spoilers for the season finale, which is really impressive. I’m in the middle of season 3, so I’ll have to wait a little bit to be able to watch the final season, but you guys, this show is utterly amazing! The way it is able to balance all of these deep philosophical and ethical lessons and debates with ridiculous randomness and hilarity, as well as having massively compelling characters is just wonderful.
The character development is pretty exceptional overall as well. Watching these characters, who some of them are self-centered or obnoxious or arrogant or downright evil, learn and grow and change through all of these events that happen, and all of the ethics lessons that are presented to them, it’s just a delight to watch.
I don’t own this book yet, but come on, how cute is the idea behind it? A cookbook based on the show? Like, there are some pretty fun episodes around food and such throughout the show, so I’m excited to take a look at the book in the future.
Next, I’m going to mention one of my more recent manga/anime obsessions, and that is “Fruits Basket.” When it comes to reading I’m only through the third volume of the Collector’s Editions, which I think is like the first 9 volumes of the standard manga editions.
This story is just really cute, and like a lot of manga and anime I seem to enjoy, there is a fairly decent focus on food. It is a shojo manga, which is a story that is aimed more towards a teenage female audience, and the stories typically involve romance. This one follows a young woman named Tohru, whose mom recently passed away, and through a series of circumstances she ends up temporarily moving in with a classmate…only to learn that he and several other members of his family are possessed by the animal spirits of the Chinese Zodiac.
I just think that Tohru is so adorable and caring and compassionate, and watching how she interacts with members of the Sohma clan is really intriguing. I didn’t get into this series back when it was originally released (back in like 1999/2000), and didn’t even actually know it existed back then. I think the only manga/anime I really knew about back then was Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura, though I had heard of Dragon Ball Z and all that.
Anyway, I’m glad that Funimation decided to bring back the anime, mostly with the original cast as well. Much like what they did with Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, this new adaptation is supposed to follow the manga more closely. Now, considering I never watched the original series, I can’t say if that’s true or not. But based on images I’ve seen from both shows, I can say that the art and animation style has certainly improved over the past two decades, so that’s great.
I’m looking forward to continuing with this series and meeting the last members of the Zodiac, and seeing how Tohru living with a few of the Sohmas affects and changes them all.
My third current show obsession is “The Witcher.” Clearly I have to talk about this show, because I’m a little bit obsessed with it at the moment. I have the whole season downloaded on my phone so I can watch it anywhere/anytime. I own all of the books. We own a couple of the games.
The action in the show is phenomenal. Okay, yes, if you aren’t fully paying attention, the timeline in season one can be a little confusing, because there’s like three different timelines running at once for most of the show. I personally didn’t have any issues with it, though I know a lot of people complained about it. I enjoyed the costuming, and the magical special effects. The creatures were fantastic. There was a dragon in one of the episodes and he was glorious. Most of the creatures that Witchers hunt were delightfully creepy, which I thought was pretty darn cool.
I had tried to read the first book of stories twice before the release of the show and didn’t make it that far in, because while it was good, I still struggle with translated books. After watching the first couple episodes of the show, I picked up the book again and I was completely hooked. I don’t know what it was but all of the stories and characters and the world, it all just clicked for me, and now I just really want to binge-read the whole series, but at the same time, I want to savor the books…especially since we’re apparently not getting season two until at least early 2021.
Okay, fine, I have another manga/anime to talk about, and that’s “Black Clover.” Yes, I gush about this series pretty much every time I do a Manga Monday review for one of the volumes. I absolutely adore the characters in this show/series, and I’m excited about every time I get to enjoy more of their adventures.
Honestly, seriously, one of my absolute favorite parts about the Black Bulls squad of the Magic Knights is how they work together, and fight together, and stick up for each other, and defend each other, and how they never ever give up. They could be hurt and weak and be at the end of their magical ability, but if the people around them need protecting, the Black Bulls find a hidden reserve of strength and find a way to overcome any obstacle in front of them. It’s really awesome and inspiring.
Plus getting to watch the development of each character’s magic is really fun too. I’m completely caught up on the released volumes of the manga, but I have I think like 40 episodes or something of the anime to watch yet. I’ll be getting to that on my Funimation account next; I want to finish Fruits Basket first.
Finally, my obsession absolutely continues with one of my favorite shows, which you can watch for free on YouTube or you can just listen to as a podcast, and that is “Critical Role.”
Again, this is another one of those fandoms that I’ve talked about a number of times on this blog. I’ve been to three of the Gen Con live shows, I own a whole lot of merchandise, and I just love how this show sparks the creativity of so many and helps to inspire a lot of us out there.
I just, I really connect with the characters, each of them in different ways, but you do grow to really love them, and it’s all improv, and some of what happens is truly decided by rolls of the dice, so you never exactly know what to expect. But the characters and the stories are just complex and they get deep, and sometimes you’re watching it and you get emotional about it. If you’re like me then you get emotional sometimes while thinking about the characters and the story lines. Like, you know, right now while I’m typing this. I’m probably not helped by the fact that I have the show on in the background as I try to get completely caught up. –not having the best internet at home has meant that Damian and I have fallen quite a bit behind. It’s like if we don’t get to watch it live each week that we sometimes forget that we need to watch it.
There are a number of books that can be enjoyed from this fandom. There’s the art books, the prequel comics, a third party 5th edition setting book, and coming in March an official 5th edition setting book. So there’s so much out there to expand the massive world that Matthew Mercer has created and it’s fantastic.
All right, that is all from me for today. What are some shows that you are currently watching/obsessed with? Let me know in the comments, and I will be back soon with more bookish content.
Recommendations: Shows I’m Loving Right Now Hey all, Dani here. I love talking about books. It's the reason why I started this book blog, but over the years I've tried to balance my love of reading with all of my other geeky passions and hobbies.

The last 12 hours were a wild ride of emotions yet again in the Banana Fish fandom. And it wasn’t the first time in this story that we went through all 5 stages of grief within a few hours just to repeat the cycle shortly after.
The whole thing came down with the last episode airing or more like coming to the dreaded inevitable end that some of us (me included) hoped until the last second they averted somehow and do the biggest plottwist in plottwist history. Obviously it didn’t happen and Mappa stayed true to their word when they said they will stay faithful to the manga.
So last night we all went through “stage 1 - denial and isolation” where we all (at least those I talked to and read posts of) sat there crying our hearts out over the loss of a fictional character. (Please don’t get me wrong here especially since I’m totally on board with all of you. It took me 10 minutes to stop the sobbing and even longer to stop the tears. So I by no means try to belittle the reactions to this tragic end of a beloved character. I’m just in disbelieve over myself mostly that I can get so attached that I feel such strong and deep feelings over - and let’s face it - fiction! That as such is a huge proof of how capable Yoshida Akimi is when she can create a story that evokes such a big resonance even on emotional levels. That requires quite some skill. And Mappa translated this to animation in an extraordinary way. I’m drifting off though so back to topic.)
The same night shortly after we already moved on to “stage 2 - anger” seeing all those posts on social media expressing (for the most part) their disapproval for the ending which to my distaste peaked in insults and threats towards the creator and the animation studio. I’m willing to think that this is only a momentary feeling lead by anger because I want to believe that I’m dealing with reasonable people that know to behave and express themselves better than that usually. (Again, this isn’t the point of this post either.)
“Stage 3 - bargaining” already was scratched at some point (and extended while I was sleeping lol) because there were already discussions about how and why Garden of Light didn’t make it into the animation. There were voices of approval and of disapproval from all sides and while I must say that I do like GoL as it does give us closure of some sort, I’m almost happy or relieved that they didn’t animate it (yet). Yes, I think the animation made it a little more obvious  compared to the manga that Ash actually died instead of just slept in the library but it still isn’t as ultimate as watching/reading GoL and be certain that this was indeed death. After all the manga as well as the anime without GoL does leave room for interpretation (even though a small one and I might be talking in denial here, but it is there). At least you can bend it enough to give fanmade sequels that include Ash without having it to be an AU some space to develop. Heck it even leaves a lose end to pick up for Mappa or any other animation studio buying the rights and continue close this story one way or another.
So not animating GoL might have been a deliberate decision by the animation studio Mappa for several reasons. Of course they knew what they were getting themselves into when they picked up this project as the end was not only already written but very well known to those who read the manga somewhere during the last 40ish years. Therefore the reactions regarding the story and it’s strongly discussed ending were known. They knew what was coming and yet stood strong to their word translating the manga to animation as is and did an amazing job at it (I’m not happy about the ending of that story at all but you have to admit that the show was a great piece of work. After all without the anime I would have never gotten to know the manga or the story in general and I’m sure I’m not the only one and I’m really grateful for that). And we have to keep in mind at this point that it’s not Mappa who decided on the ending but the creator Yoshida Akimi did 40 years ago. This is her story and we don’t know about contracts and copyrights and who has to say what about how the story may or may not be adjusted. Yes it is possible that Mappa might have had the chance to change the ending but didn’t, we don’t know that, but rumour has it that the staff wasn’t pleased having to produce the story with this outcome. (Apparently there was an interview of some sort where someone of Mappa stated this but I don’t have access to the source so I can’t say anything for certain. If I do get my hands on it will certainly edit it to this. That being said, if someone reading this has the link to first hand information I’d be so grateful if you could share it with me/us!) So taking this assumption into account I can imagine them deciding against GoL for just the fact that it leaves a small but existing open end that can be picked up not only by fans but professionals once the copyright is gone (Yes this would mean after Yoshida Akimi passed away and it wasn’t fixed otherwise in a contract somewhere. Not wishing her anything bad this means we most likely won’t see it anytime soon but from manga to anime was a 40 years gap so we can wait another 40 years, right? Bargaining right there...)
Anyways. Where I’m trying to go with this post is basically “stage 3 - bargaining” because what else might it be that I’m about to say? Maybe I’m still stuck in denial but please hear me out (if you haven’t left after this wall of text already lol)
With episode 24 the story should be over. Right? Maybe there’s room to adapt the prequels “Angel Eyes” and “Private Opinion” or the sequel “Garden of Light” but from all we know so far the anime was planned to conclude within 24 episodes and those were delivered. Topic’s over. Or is it? Well... part of the bargaining that started yesterday were the following screenshots of streaming platforms (thank you @cyberiin and @buy-goldbye for providing me with the screenshots as I have no access to those platforms):
Tumblr media
Clearly if the show is over the timers should have stopped and it most definitely should not say “to be continued”. I pushed that thought aside last night when I went to bed thinking that this is just an automated thing of these platforms and it will be gone once they update the information. So I went to bed with my broken heart thinking that this is the last image we get on the character relationship chart:
Tumblr media
Only to wake up to an updated one:
Tumblr media
Different character picture. No longer greyed out as all the other dead characters still are (including Lao). Ash as stubborn looking as always refusing to obey anything or anyone (including his own death?). Name still greyed out but that changed while I was writing to a white name:
Tumblr media
So needless to say that this is getting my hopes up but I don’t want to hope too much. At this point this can mean anything or nothing. Maybe this is just Mappa’s way of coping with the fact that they didn’t like the ending either but had to follow contracts (as assumed by rumoured statements talked about before) trying to solidarize with fans and giving them at least an open end. That of course only applies if what is rumoured actually is true. It might mean something entirely different of course but this only leads to speculations I have no basis for besides my hope that they will still turn this thing on us. Why I’m still hoping although the story is over? Well not only the character relationship chart changed within a few hours after Ash’s “death” but noone cared to stop timers either. Quite the contrary even IMDb is in denial with us and the fact that official media sites like these don’t update the information but leave it open says a lot in my humble opinion:
Tumblr media
I don’t know what to do with the information. Nothing is confirmed at the time I’m writing this and this
Tumblr media
being published while I’m still typing isn’t helpful either. All of the above leads my naive mind and bleeding heart to the conclusion that there is a happy ending coming somehow but honestly all you can take from this is that apparently the show isn’t over yet and they still have something up their sleeve for us.
I’m sorry everyone that I don’t have anything profound to say or give you more insight than you already have. In the end this is just me rambling and ranting on about the current status quo and shouting out into the void in hopes my wish for a happy end will be granted.
How do you all feel about this? Come talk and share your thoughts. Am I delusional for believing in it still or are you with me? I’m curious! Let me know :)
