Struggling to stay alive another day was a form of resistance. Escaping from the ghetto or hiding in a bunker was resistance. Resistance was giving birth to a child in the ghetto, sharing food with others, praying in a congregation, singing in a chorus, studying the Bible, planting flowers in the ghetto, keeping a diary under the shadow of death.
— Chaim Lazar, a young resistance fighter discussing the hope and resistance of Jewish people forced into ghettos in Poland with terrible conditions under the Nazi regime during WW2

Angband isn’t about personal torment and hands in guts, in my opinion. It’s about the exquisite impersonal bureaucracy! It’s about the grinding psychological terror, about knowing your enemy has time and power and the wisdom of ages on their side. This isn’t Sauron’s special torture times (as fun as that can be), it’s getting strapped to a rock for a decade and forgotten about for years in between. It’s mind-shattering servitude, thousands toiling beneath the earth, dying, being interred, in a lightless dark that drives elves mad. Curses! Writhing beasts! Fellow prisoners who are more than they appear! Less Saw trap and more full CIA blacksite; sensory deprivation, traitors in your midst, constant lies, the weird clinical coldness of an army dedicated to breaking people down and remaking the pieces.

yay thats great ur able to tell the bad guy is bad and shouldn’t be emulated and like pick up on symbolism or whatever but have u tried analyzing media within the context of the real world. like how the time and place it was written in or the person who wrote it may have affected the views espoused in the book. how may have the author’s real-world biases affected the work. What facets of their views and personality can be seen through the writing and characters.

Hey hey shadows who might take me maliciously. I don’t know a lot about the houthis. I know them for stopping the cargo ships going to Israel. I don’t like violence so anyone who’s trying to stop this attempt at genocide is gunna get a thumbs up from me. It’s not a stamp for everything they do or have done.
The more important factor. Is that my government would rather bomb those who are trying to stop a genocide, then to cease giving weapons to the slaughter. If you’re really scared of Hamas, you wouldn’t have funded them in the past and ignore the other Palestinian groups trying to speak for their rights.

people really do not know what they're talking about when it comes to Elizabeth Woodville's social status, huh?
#yes Elizabeth was without a doubt considered too low-born to be queen#no she was not a commoner and nobody actually called her that during her life (so I'm not sure why people are claiming that they did?)#Elizabeth's social status was not a problem in itself; it was a problem in the context of queenship and marrying into royalty#Context is important in this and for literally everything else when it comes to analyzing history. Any discussion is worthless without it.#obviously pop culture-esque articles claiming that she was 'a commoner who captured the king's heart' are wrong; she wasn't#But emphasizing that ACTUALLY she was part of the gentry with a well-born mother and just leaving it at that as some sort of “GOTCHA!”#is equally if not more irresponsible and entirely irrelevant to discussions of the actual time period we're studying.#Elizabeth *was* considered unworthy and unacceptable as queen precisely because of her lower social status#her father and brother had literally been derided as social-climbers by Salisbury Warwick and Edward himself just a few years earlier#the Woodvilles' marriage prospects clearly reflected their status (and 'place') in society: EW herself had first married a knight and all#siblings married within the gentry to people of a similar status. compare that to the prestigious marriages arranged after EW became queen#Elizabeth having a lower social status was not 'created' by propaganda against her; it fueled and shaped propaganda against her#that's a huge huge difference; it's irresponsible and silly to conflate the two as I've seen a recent tumblr post cavalierly do#like I said she was considered too low-born to be queen long before any of the propaganda Warwick Clarence or Richard put out against her#and the fact that Elizabeth was targeted on the basis of her social status was in itself novel and unprecedented#no queen before her was ever targeted in such a manner; Clearly Elizabeth was considered notably 'different' in that regard#(and was quite literally framed as the enemy and destroyer of 'the old royal blood of this realm' and all its actual 'inheritors' like..)#ngl this sort of discussion always leaves a bad taste in my mouth#because it's not like England and France (et all) are at war or consider each other mortal enemies in the 21st century#both are in fact western european imperialistic nations who've been nothing but a blight to the rest of the world including my own country#yet academic historians clearly have no problem contextualizing the xenophobia that medieval foreign queens faced as products of their time#and sympathizing with them accordingly (Eleanor of Provence; Joan of Navarre; Margaret of Anjou; etc)(at least by their own historians)#Nor were foreign queens the “worst” targets of xenophobia: that was their attendants or in times of war commoners or soldiers#who actually had to bear the brunt of English aggression#queens were ultimately protected and guaranteed at least a veneer of dignity and respect because of their royal status#yet once again historians and people have no problem contextualizing and understanding their difficulties regardless of all this#so what is the problem with contextualizing the classism *Elizabeth* faced and understanding *her* difficulties?#why is the prejudice against her constantly diminished & downplayed? (Ive never even seen any historian directly refer to it as 'classism')#after all it was *Elizabeth* who was more vulnerable than any queen before her due to her lack of powerful foreign or national support#and Elizabeth who faced a form of propaganda distinctly unprecedented for queens. it SHOULD be emphasized more.

Cassiopeia by Sara Bareilles is such a good representation of calypso in my brain
Anchored home in her interstellar sea
calypso, stuck on ogygia with no contact with the outside world, no real way to know about anything happening, nobody to talk to other than the occasional god visiting her and a random hero that gets thrown at her by the fates.
Then: a spark from a star shooting too close They both smiled; what a day to explode!
leo, arriving and spending nearly a month (ogygia time) together getting t know each other and falling for each other because they actually know each other, not becuase of a curse (that had already been broken by this time lol)
Come on, come on, collide Let's see what a fire feels like I bet it's just like heaven"
calypso, finally getting to feel for someone who loves her back. someone who died to keep a promise to her and break her free from her island.

What are your opinions of both of you about the frioul guy?
EH DUROCS A DECENT GUY HES NOT ANNOYING OR STUPID AND HE MAKES SURE LEMPEROUR EATS AND SHTIS ON TIME
He is competent, unlike many around us. Before you interject, Marshal Lannes, you are also included in that count of competency.
I WASNT GOING TO SAY ANYTHIGN!!!!
Good.
DUROC ALSO APPEARED FROM A SHEEP I KISSED THE OTHER DAY SO CLEARLY MY KISS HAS MAGIC POWERS
And yet nothing has happened since. If your mouth did possess unearthly powers, you would think something would occur more than once. Not that I believe your crazed rantings on what actually occurred.
DO YOU WANT TO BE A TEST SUBJHECT SOULT
Absolutely not.

[Marvel AU] Jacob Cromwell/Duncan Ashe Moodboard
featuring Jacob as Steve Rogers “Captain America”  and Duncan as Bucky Barnes “the Winter Soldier”
“...Jacob...?”
“You know me now? Or do you?”
“...Your mother’s name was Lane. Your sister was Carewyn. You called her ‘Pip.’ ...You never shut up about her -- how much you missed her, how much you’d make her proud. You wrote her a letter every morning at eight, no matter where you were on the front -- even in a pitch-black tank with nothing but my lighter to help you see. ...You...loved her more than anyone...”
“Nice facts. Did you collect those from hacking security cameras, or interrogating other targets?”
“Oh, for fu -- Jacob, it’s me! I know the Soldier’s a good actor, and I’m pretty damn sure I know what S.H.I.E.L.D.’s told you about me. Master of disguise -- able to blend in like a chameleon, fluent in seven languages -- the ultimate assassin? ...That was me, but -- it wasn’t. It wasn’t really me. But right now, I...right now, this is me, Jacob. ...Look in my eyes. You know it’s me.”
“...If it is really you...then tell me why you saved me, from the river.”
“Wha -- oh, come on! I -- you know why! You have to know why. How could you not, when you let me just keep hitting you, over and over again -- when you must’ve known I wouldn’t actually be able to go through with it -- ?”
“I didn’t know that. You’re a genetically-enhanced assassin, Ashe -- I knew full well you could kill me, if you tried. ...I just knew I wouldn’t be able to hurt you. No matter what you’ve done, no matter what orders I was given -- no matter what you might do to me...I would never be able to hurt you, Ashe.”
“Jacob...”
“Ashe...I lost you once. I’m not going to lose you again.”
“...Jacob... ...You goddamn idiot...it’s all the same, for me.”

Oh boy, OC show and tell! My favourite thing!
Send me a !! and I'll introduce you to an OC of mine
I'd like to talk about Massoud Yusufi!
Tumblr media
(Credit to @c0ffinated for the picture and all the following ones I will use. Massoud is on the right).
One of Roderich's right hands, together with Alois Huber (the blondie on the left).
Arrived in Austria as an Afghan refugee and was noticed by Roderich when he tried to get a job under the radar.
He bought a binder with the first money Roderich gave him and got a tattoo a week after. It's a loading bar in his neck that correlate to his transition milestones. (Binder: 25%, going on t: 50%, top surgery: 75%, bottom surgery: 100%).
Tumblr media
He's a nerd for machines, both when it comes to software and hardware. He likes to teach himself about hacking as much as he tries to design mechanical contraptions. Sadly, he's a bit too overzealous and often tries to run before he walks, which has ended especially badly when Alois is reckless enough to let him design prosthetic leg prototypes.
He's 24 and speaks three lamguages: Pashto, English and German.
He's grayace, which makes his dating life as an awkward nerd who's trying so desperately to be always cool even harder. Massoud would love a cute and sweet partner, but he doesn't know how to flirt and no one else is of use. (No, not you either, Hugo. Hugo is my friend Jonah's OC aka c0ffinated.)
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure by now he is somewhere on the spectrum, because he often has trouble grasping relationships and the social norms around working together.
He broke his nose on his way from Afghanistan to Austria.
His glasses are purely aesthetic. He thinks they make him look better.
Caught in his own toxic masculinity. Always wants everything to go to plan and appear as cool and calm. Hates crying, because it's 'girly', but often does when he has an angry outburst. Got a lot to unlearn on what he's 'allowed' to do as a man and what not.
Team Austria actually has a very interesting combination when it comes to types of stubbornness, because you can have three duos: - Alois and Massoud with their toxic masculinity, each in their own way, while Roderich is very confident in his own while he bakes cake and dresses like a gay time traveler. - Massoud and Roderich with their pride and expectancy that the world works a certain way and that their good behaviour gets rewarded, while Alois is pragmatical about how the world works and doesn't give a shit if he has to get himself dirty to get the job done. - Alois and Roderich are both easily provoked/love to hold grudges, whereas Massoud doesn't really care for all the hereditary hate and pettiness.
Wipes the floor with his friends whenever he plays video games with them, but couldn't take his loss in Mario Kart against Omar, so much that he sabotaged his switch. It turned into somewhat of an international incident.
He has a lot of smart tech in his flat, DESPITE being aware of its flaws. I assume he got it all very early on in living on his own and didn't care enough for the downsides to turn down a cool gadget. He'll probably replace it with a system of his own creation as time goes on.
