💃💜 Hey, Friday Is Finally Here! 💜💃
Another week down, yay! Like my post from yesterday, been doing more practice and really getting into the groove. As they say, practice makes perfect! 🎶
So this is supposedly the last hot weekend then it's gonna be a bit cooler starting Monday. Been saying that for a few weeks, but this time it looks like the real deal, looking forward to it! 🍂
The other day finished watching the series F Is for Family by Bill Burr. I was rolling 🤣 If your old school you'll love it, so many things to relate too.
Anyway, hope you all are having a wonderful day and a fantastic weekend. Love you all! 💜✌

#BlackAutisticJoy is when you jam on the drums at #SUSO2023 and feeling the rhythm after @victoriadjembe shows you the drum pattern only once each time
#Autizzy moment where memory, repetition, and #stimming comes together in an #intersectional blast!

Daily instrument - Djembe
The djembe is a drum originating in the Mandinke tribe (present day Mali). The Djembe has been an integral part of ritualistic life in west africa for generations including Senegal, Mali, Guinea etc. The djembe has a goblet-like structure made from a carved, hollow tree trunk (traditionally: Lenge trees) while the head is covered by skin (traditionally: Goat skin). Rope is woven horizontally, tightening the head to tune the instrument. The djembe produces 3 pitches: slap, tone, and bass (highest to lowest) and is played by the hand

Niche Instrument #1 - The West African Djembe
So I was raised pretty heavily in the music world, and I've decided to share a delightful little instrument with you all that was technically the first instrument I've ever played.
Tumblr media
This is an African djembe drum. According to Wikipedia, the djembe gets its name from the Bambara phrase "Anke djé, anke bé," which translates as "Everyone gather together in peace." The djembe is a deceptively powerful instrument: what looks to be a simple hand-played conga spin-off is actually an extremely loud drum.
The djembe is extremely versatile despite its simplicity. By using a firm, strong slap in the middle of the drum, the player can create a rich, deep, booming bass tone. By loosely slapping the middle of the drum, a brighter "snare" tone can be produced. Lastly, by hitting the rim of the drum, a highly distinct, almost "ringing" tone can be made, giving a decent djembe player one of the most versatile hand drums in the world to work with.
I have a fascination with niche traditional/folk instruments of all kinds. If there's any instrument in particular y'all would like to hear about, please let me know and I'd be happy to make a post about it!

Cécile McLorin Salvant's album Mélusine was released one year ago this week. To mark the occasion, we're sharing live performances of four songs from the album made at Oberlin College & Conservatory. Today's performance: "Fenestra," with Sullivan Fortner on piano and Weedie Braimah on djembe.

“What is that.  What are you doing?  Those two side characters have less than ten minutes of screen time and have never spoken to one another before.  Why are you- Stop that.”
First of all.  Shut up.  Second of all.  Here is my list, lifted directly from my rant on discord, of reasons why Bob Normie x Djembe (aka pennydrum) is a superior ship.
djembe would treat him right.
bob would understand djembe's struggles with his job
they are both puppets under an unfair regime, one of them starved for human kindness and the other one sneaking kindness to everyone he can manage to lend a hand to
they could hold hands and talk about the dreams theyd have if the world were wider, freer, less cruel
djembe could take the patrols by bob's job because bob isnt allowed to leave his post but maybe he could have someone to talk to.  maybe these two could sneak a little friendship into their strictly regimented time
think about their height difference
djembe's gentle smile contrasted with the exhaustion bob cant quite hide.
they could meet for the first time as the world is falling apart to the amaglam, and rebuild their lives each one friend richer.
bob could be the one to comfort djembe after the fairy ordeal so that djembe is being reached out to and supported for once!!! djembe just had the worst shift of his career, who better to understand him than a man who's faced nothing but bad days?
djembe who's kind nature had him picking up every shift that was at a loose end, never patrolling the same place twice, or more often than not as a gate greeter welcoming stranger after stranger. djembe who after being kidnapped by fairies realizes without consistent people in his life no one would have even noticed him being replaced djembe who meets and makes friends with bob normie, and who clings to the new routine of seeing him every day because now if he got stolen away, even if bob couldnt do anything someone would notice him missing.  someone would remember him as more than just a welcoming committee.  he finally knows someone, and has someone who knows him as more than just one face among many, utterly replaceable
djembe never laughing when bob struggles through doors or trips and falls.  djembe never calling "heads” or “tails" when bob lands flat.  kind, warm djembe offering him a hand up
In conclusion: pennydrum ! ! !
