She has begun to suspect that somewhere deep in the foundation of this life she is living, a mistake was made. She can’t quite discern what it was, or how she knows this, or how to fix it, but that makes it all the more disquieting. Something doesn’t add up.

“My God, my God, whose performance am I watching? How many people am I? Who am I? What is this space between myself and myself?”

Before I went to sleep I looked at myself in the mirror. My face was ravaged, lifeless and indistinct, so indistinct that I did not recognise myself. I got into bed, pulled the quilt over my head, huddled myself up and, with eyes closed, pursued the course of my thoughts. I was conscious of the strands which had been woven by a dark, gloomy, fearful and delightful destiny; I moved in the regions where life and death fuse together and perverse images come into being and ancient, extinct desires, vague, strangled desires, again come to life and cry aloud for vengeance. For that space of time I was severed from nature and the phenomenal world and was prepared to accept effacement and dissolution in the everlasting flux. I murmured again and again, ‘Death, death … where are you ?’ The thought of death soothed me and I fell asleep.

Disquiet
( @redhoodedjaybird )
Time had a certain kind of elasticity in the Dreaming. John had long lost track of the moments that went by, or perhaps it was just that one moment and then some.
All he had now were breadcrumbs in the shape of his cigarette smoke, tethering him still to the Prime where he left his body deep in meditation, and his soul was now here and presently in search of a young man.
To dowse for a particular someone in the sea of so many, well this was not an easy task. Cotton candy clouds to that made of sponge, rivers where jet black hair ran instead of water. Soil soaked with blood and trees of gut and sinew. A quintessential nightmare, one that would lead into a deeper web of more.
John found himself seeking clues in the sky. Matthew was absent and so was the presence of the Prince of Stories. John knew then that Morpheus was nowhere in his domain, and whosoever took to the helm...well, that remained to be seen.
The lands eventually morphed into a darker cityscape. Alleyways and lamplights, the ever persisting echo of a police vehicle in the distance. A sickly yellow distress signal with the silhouette of a bat, all of that melting into vats of acid. Crushed motorbikes, a crowbar.
Many crowbars.
“Rite, now we’re talkin’,” Said John with a grin, chewing down on his cigarette as the smoke led him through the tepid darkness.
“Come on den, come ‘ta Uncle John.”

Four Mornings
The morning was rainy and cool. I lit the familiar cigarette.
If you gave half a tinker’s damn I’d be more patient, but no.
I like the smell of animals and the rain falling on my face.
I like baseball and family gatherings – all that wholesome stuff...
Oh, my soul, why are you disquieted within me?The morning was rainy and cool.
