no one talks about the willpower it takes to be in a fandom which hasn’t made new content in years!

Realizing the fact that the first two characters in the canon are not prototypes of the final character, it makes me feel twice as funny

when you are writing an update for a fic for a practically dead fandom.... Hoping the 6 people who subscribed to it , that maybe 1 of them will comment when you post...
Tumblr media
But you like the story, want to finish it. It has an OC you care about, want her story told, so you plow on...even if you are writing into the Void.....

The Keepers website was taken down sometime in the last few days. I don't know exactly when, because I don't remember the last time I checked it, and our fandom is so small that it could easily have taken months to notice if I hadn't needed to reference something for the wiki.
It's not really a logistical problem; thankfully, the Wayback Machine has a recent scan of the website that covers everything- all the text, all the files. I've downloaded all the assets to my computer to make sure I have it personally backed up. (Let me know if you'd like any in particular.)
Nonetheless, the whole situation has left me feeling really... empty, I guess. For years, the Keepers website was basically the only thing left to anchor this story in the present. Almost everything about the series- initial announcement, anything from the original book tour, early author interviews, the HarperCollins webpage- was already gone soon after the series wrapped up. But now, all those links are gone, and the series is out of print, and the fandom is a few people on Tumblr who occasionally think about it, and vam, and me.
In just five days, the first Keepers book will reach its nine-year anniversary. But I don't feel like celebrating, because I feel like my favorite books are part of history now. Books are supposed to be timeless, but so few people are ever going to pick up these books again. Even so, I'm always excited by forgotten books- but Keepers doesn't feel exciting in the same way, because it's in the process of being forgotten, and because I know it could have survived if it had just reached its target audience.
The books are gone- out of print. The author is gone- he's said he wants to write another children's series, but he hasn't posted anything in several years, and his one last link to Keepers just went down. The people who read these books when they came out, the children in the school tours and the positive Facebook commenters and the one student who made the 3D-printed Fel'Daera, they're gone too, because Keepers likely isn't part of their story anymore. So, I guess I'm glad that it's part of mine.
I know this is a very specific feeling, and I know all 4 of my followers are already aware of the Keepers series, and I don't need to be telling you about it. But I guess what I do want to tell you is: Let's talk about Keepers. Let's draw and write and think about Keepers. Let's keep our memories of this series alive, and let's share it with our friends and through that let's send our problem into every other universe. God knows, we all deserve these books.
I'll see y'all later this week with a map of the Great Burrow.

Small fandoms/Games I like (*Ranting!)
If you don't feel like reading about a bunch of non-sense, don't bother reading!
I swear, whenever I find something really freaking awesome, it always ends up being a small fandom or just a not very well known one (Not talking about TF2 and Portal. They're a lot more well known compared to what I'm about to rant about) I'm talking about Genesis Noir and McSM (Minecraft: Story Mode). seriously. Such good games but then the fandom is almost dead or not very many people know about it.
Like, come on! Genesis Noir is AMAZING, but I'm sure many many people will most definetly argue about that, and that's because people are totally gonna think it's boring (Which seeing it in some peoples point of views, it's understandable). BUT, it's got amazing characters, somewhat interesting story and AMAZING puzzles! The puzzles frustrate me but brings me in enough for me to actually enjoy trying to complete it. Not just that, but the character designs are lovely! And the game itself is just..... Art! I am IN LOVE with the art! The music AND the visuals! Now for McSM. Oh my freaking god, this game has made me go freaking feral. One, it's not being sold/made anymore and it took me FOREVER to find it again! Two, it WAS on Netflix but then (of course) it's not on there anymore! I would also rant on about how much I both love and hate Netflix but this rant is already getting a bit too ridiculously long.
McSM's fandoms freaking dead by the time I actually manage to sit, enjoy, and actually understand the story itself. Although the game is a little glitchy at times (It's audio sometimes being late and there being very long pauses when I'm pretty sure there isn't supposed to be one in certain scenes) but staying to see how the story plays along is WORTH IT!! I also really freaking love these damn characters, especially the Order of the Stone characters! Very cool personalities and nice outfits! Basically what I'm trying to say is.. these games are both underrated and/or have a dead/dying fandom, and it's making me sad and mad. Thank you for reading.
(*Also, would this count as a rant? I looked up the meaning of rant and it's shouting and yelling about stuff and I'm not necessarily yelling, I'm just saying a bunch of random stuff I was thinking about. So I have no clue wth this would be.)

Unpopular opinion: box art should be representative of actual content
It’s very strange to me when an older anime gets a re-release and new box art that makes it look like a brand-new anime.  It feels like false advertising.  I mean, if I had never heard of Gundam Wing before and went browsing for new anime to watch and saw THIS cover art
Tumblr media
I would assume that the show itself is going to look like a modern anime.  And then I’d pop in the first disc and start watching the show and it would look like the 1995 anime that it is.
Tumblr media
^Screencap from the show.  Also the face you make when you spend money on something and it turns out to be completely different from what you thought you were getting.
If I were buying this set on a whim based solely on the appeal of the cover art--in other words, if I were someone who WANTS a modern anime--I would be pretty annoyed that the actual content doesn’t meet my expectations.
Of course, I can’t imagine there are that many people who randomly buy unfamiliar anime just because the cover art looks nice.  I bought physical copies of this series because I had already seen and enjoyed it.  That’s probably the case for most people.  But that’s the thing: most of us already know what this series looks like.  So why does it have to be made to look like a modern anime when we all know it isn’t one?  Why not stick at least a little closer to the original style?  I don’t understand at all.  :/
(Personally I have a strong sense of nostalgia for the older art.  I liked the bold colors, the darker shadows in the eyes and pupils, the less-skeletal bodies, etc.  It all felt more substantial somehow.  I don’t mind SOME changes, but when it looks like a completely different anime I think it’s gone too far.)
