The Royal game of Ur is a two-player racing board game dating back to 3000 BCE. Its rules have been reconstructed with the aid of a tablet written by Itti-Marduk-balāṭu. Players each pick a colour, and, starting in opposite corners on one end of the board, race their pieces along a path for their colour. Dice are rolled to determine the number of squares pieces can move. In the middle of the board, the paths overlap, and pieces can be captured. A player wins when they successfully race all their pieces to the end of the board.
