As a wealthy Christian, Saint Nicholas felt called by God to help the poor by doing good deeds. His acts of kindness sowed the seed of the tradition of giving gifts at Christmas and placing them in a stocking.
Posted @withrepost • @dhachildrens Are you ready for a spooktacular Book-mas recommendation? Today's Christmas read comes from the brilliant @jonathan.stroud 🎄☠️ JS: Ghosts enjoy Christmas like everybody else, and a good spooky tale is a fine corrective to all the enforced jollity and turkey-fuelled good cheer. Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol fuses darkness and redemption to create obviously the greatest festive book of all. It should be required yearly reading (just as The Muppets’ Christmas Carol is THE essential family watch). But I’m going to go out on a limb here, and recommend M R James’s Ghost Stories as my Xmas pick. These aren’t stories about Christmas, but many of them were written for Christmas. James was Provost at Eton, and he wrote his stories specifically for reading out to friends and pupils on Christmas Eve. You’ve got vengeful spirits, demonic guardians, nasty things hiding in ash trees, white flappy shapes hunting you along deserted beaches, and many other horrors, all hinted at with impeccable Edwardian restraint. In short, they’re the best creepy stories in English and perfect for the season, so take a peek into the midwinter dark and see what’s wandering there. Today I did another author reading of my book 𝑷𝒊𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒆𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒕 𝑫𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒐𝒏 at Rainbow Playschool in Woodstock, VT. I love engaging with kids during storytime! If you shop now you can still get a copy before Christmas! See the link in my story or my bio or search the title on amazon, and be sure to check out my other titles while you're at it. If you have a local bookstore, daycare, library, or school and you want to have an author+illustrator come for storytime let me know! We read together then discuss themes like giving, helping others, and favorite holiday treats, and the kids get to learn about the bookmaking process from a self-published creator. • #childrensbookillustration #childrensillustration #childrensauthorillustrator #authorillustrator #indieauthorillustrator #picturebook #illustration #bookillustrations #authorreading #christmasreading #storytime #christmasbooks #christmasstories #dragonbooks #christmasgifting #giftideasforkids #givebooks #givingseason #letsreadtogether #piperthepeppermintdragon #elysedeneigebooks #supportindieauthors #shopindie #christmastraditions #holidaygiving https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmb_qemLgh7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

⭐️Buchrezension⭐️ 4/5 Sterne. #dasweihnachtscafeinmanhattan #katherinegarbera #bookstagramgermany #rezension #buchrezension #Bücher #books #lesen #reading #lesenmachtglücklich #qualitytime #Buch #book #christmasreading https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl3bEkQKSLP/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Happy Wednesday! . Part of my book haul this week, so far, is a Christmas book - yes, that’s right. It’s July and Christmas ARCs are coming out. (QOTD) Do you enjoy Christmas reads? When do you like to read them? (AOTD) I used to read Christmas books between Thanksgiving and Christmas but now that I am lucky enough to get galleys, I read these books in the early fall. . . . . #bookstagram #awhitechristmasonwinterstreet #suemoorcroft #christmasinjuly #christmasreads #christmasreading #books #booklover #book #bookworm #bookstagrammer #reading #bookish #bookaddict #booknerd #bibliophile #instabook #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #read #bookaholic #booksbooksbooks #bookphotography #booklove #love #bookcommunity #bookblogger #instabooks #booklovers #igreads (at Lake Davidson) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cf9F4Har__P/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

While it is a standalone story, Snowed In takes place a little over two years after Holiday Romance. Keeping the same snappy dialogue and Walsh wit, Snowed In takes us back to the small town we fell in love with before, reintroduces us to the Fitzpatrick clan, and shows us that with a little Christmas magic, anything is possible. I will warn you, read Holiday Romance first; otherwise, you will have spoilers and may not understand the story of Andrew and Molly that continues in Snowed In.
Megan just needs a win! It’s bad enough that she is still deemed a social pariah for running out on her wedding day five years ago. Yes, she left the village golden boy Isaac at the alter but she just couldn’t face the rest of her life being with the only man that was her first… well everything! She figured life would be waiting for her when she finally broke free. What was waiting for her, horrible first dates and failed relationships. It wouldn’t be so bad if she was doing well in her career but, while she loves her job, saying she lives a modest lifestyle is an understatement. All of this she could cope with but the idea of returning to her village, aka the scene of the crime, after all these years away is not helping her look forward to the upcoming holiday. That has to be why she was willing to entertain Christian Fitzpatrick’s outlandish plan: Being each other’s fake date (i.e. backup) while they are home for the holidays. Christian’s family would avoid meddling in his life for once and Megan may actually survive running into Isaac, the scrutiny of her town, and her mother’s fundraiser. It’s a plan that is just crazy enough to work… or one hilarious failure to watch!
I never want Catherine Walsh's books to end! When you hit that last page and she beautifully wraps up the story, you feel like she just gave you a one of a kind gift.

WHAT’S SANTA GOT TO DO WITH IT? by Bix Barrow is a semi-low-angst, humorous holiday romance featuring a bi-awakening, a chonky rabbit, learning work-life balance, forced proximity, avoiding THAT Christmas song, reconciling with (some) family, interfering friends, and a hitman with a heart of gold.
