1. negative 20s if i remember correctly! i had no idea how to write that kind of weather so i set it in… spring 😂 which is when i also started writing it. had to bookmark the weather of the location lmao

2. i tried to pinpoint a favorite food for bea, but i made myself sad doing it skdbs cos i was trying to go back to her childhood and then went “wouldn’t the food be tasteless if she’s having meals alone or with a family like that?” 😭 why am i like this 😭 but as for ava’s menu, i’d say she’s partial to anything they can make together because,,, soft gay lmao so nothing too complicated bec bea in the kitchen is a disaster waiting to happen. omelettes? bacon and waffles? literally anything even a 7-year-old can help with 💀

Batman's ships with his various Rogues are very interesting to think about (lots of quality material there for both character analysis and just fun) but simultaneously you have to grapple with (or ignore) the canon abuse/murder/kidnapping/torture/trauma some of the Rogues have wrought upon Bruce's family. I'm starting to really get into BruHarvey (for so many great reasons), but holy hell in canon Harvey was once the killer of Jason's dad, and definitely beat the shit out of Dick (amongst other things).

Still a great ship though.

Very few people bothered to find out what S1 Izzy / complex Edward enjoyers were interpreting differently than the "Izzy is Kylo Ren / Ed's his victim" crowd that made us like him in the first place, so it figures that now very few people are bothering to understand what a lot of us are criticizing in S2 while the - shockingly - exact same crowd leads the discussion on how it was a beautiful season and Izzy enjoyers are just incapable of decentering their problematic fave.

And it's once again leading to a barrage of posts lecturing us about why the takes they imagine we hold are wrong and supporting the same toxic fandom atmosphere that aimed to harass us all out for a year and a half. Cool. Glad to see no lessons were learned whatsoever.

What are your three favorite family recipes?

Oh man, okay so this has been in my inbox for AGES (I'm so sorry!!) because I was like damn, this is such a cool ask, but honestly I wouldn't say my family has any 'family recipes' so to speak, at least not anything that I'm aware of as something that's been passed down, y'know? I think this is mostly because my mum is a fantastic cook, and generally found/came up with her own recipes rather than doing anything my gran taught her haha. I learnt pretty much everything about how I cook from her, which is what I would describe as 'a vibes-based approach', where rather than precise measurements, she'll say 'oh a bit of that, a bit of this', and also ignore half of what the recipe says and do her own thing. She makes roux sauce without measuring anything and by pouring all the liquid in at once, and just whisking it like a mad thing to get rid of the lumps hahaha

So then, following on from that, I figured actually whilst I don't really have any passed-down family recipes (other than like, my mum's amazing quiche, which I do not know how to make myself rip), I do have recipes that I've made up, based on other recipes! So I'll quickly tell you about those!

Courgette Pesto Pasta Ingredients:

Pasta (I use 50g of penne per person)

1 onion (or half if you're only cooking for one person)

Mushrooms (like. a bunch. follow your heart)

Courgette

Bacon (2 slices per person)

Pesto

Lemon Juice

Butter

So you'll need to chop up everything before hand (or, if you're like me, time it with how long it takes the kettle to boil, but I have a gas kettle that takes 5-10mins to boil, and also screams at me). So: chopped onions, sliced mushrooms, sliced courgette, and cut the bacon into little squares. Then - kettle boils and pasta goes on. By the time you're done with cooking everything, the pasta should be about ready.

Put the courgette in a small pan, and add a lump of butter, some lemon juice and a bit of some of the boiled water left over from the kettle. The aim of the game here is that the water/lemon juice is gonna boil off and leave the butter behind to fry the courgette a little before adding it in with everything else, so only have enough liquid that it doesn't quite cover the top layer of courgette. Then whack that on the heat. Grab a wok, throw some oil in and start frying the onions. After a few, throw in the mushrooms. Then, add the bacon. I personally like my wok-fried food a little seared, so when it's getting crispy, the courgette will hopefully be beginning to fry in the other pan. At this point, I usually tip the courgette AND whatever liquid is left in that pan into the wok, and start frying it all together. By now, it should have been about five or ten minutes, so test the pasta, see if it's cooked. When it's ready, drain the pasta, turn the heat down on the wok and then add the pasta. Then mix in a healthy teaspoonful of pesto for as many people as you're making it for, and that's it!

Potential variations:

So my mum makes this one differently - no lemon juice, no courgette, no pesto. Instead, she cuts up a red bell pepper and adds that into the wok after the bacon, and adds in a ton of Philadelphia cream cheese for the sauce. It tastes incredible haha. I've also made a variation on this where it's the same as my mum's version, but I add in a couple of teaspoons of sun-dried tomato pesto as well, which was glorious. And then the other day I made up a new variation, which takes my version of the recipe as outlined above, but uses grilled vegetable pesto instead of normal pesto - and then, before serving, beat one egg per person in a mug, and pour that into the wok and stir it in throughout. That was AMAZING

Quail Egg Carbonara Ingredients:

Quail eggs (5 per person)

Pasta again

Single cream

Butter

Parmesan cheese (1 hearty tablespoon per person)

Mushrooms

Bacon (again, two slices each)

Okay so you don't have to use quail eggs. However, I get quail eggs for free from work because we have like, six or seven quails HAHAH so we get a ton of eggs and most of my co-workers don't eat them so I make the most of it. This recipe is based on a recipe from a cook book that I have, but the proportions are kinda whack, so I riffed off it, and I use quail eggs because the yolk to egg white ratio works out better, I think? However, you can absolutely try and use a chicken egg - my mum tried this the other day and just used one chicken egg per person, and she said it was fine, just a lot more liquid than my version haha.

Anyway. This one is so simple. Make the sauce first: beat all the eggs together in a large bowl, then add a lump of butter and the single cream (I'm so sorry. It's like - okay, last time I made it, I wanna say I used about 100ml cream to cook for three people, and a healthy sized lump of butter. But it's a vibes based approach. Follow your heart) and then 1 hearty tablespoon of parmesan cheese per person. Yes, it's a lot. That's because this recipe is good for the soul. Anyway - important note, do NOT MIX the ingredients together. Just throw them into the bowl and let it stand. Put the pasta on to cook, and then fry the bacon in a frying pan (oh, the bacon and the mushrooms should be chopped). After the bacon is getting on, add the mushrooms. Again, we love these slightly seared. THEN. When the pasta is cooked - do NOT turn off the heat, but turn it down, and then drain the pasta and return it to the pan. Add the mushrooms, bacon and pan juices into the pan with the pasta, put it back on the low heat, and then pour everything in that bowl into the pan and mix it together. The og recipe was like 'turn the heat off, the heat of the pasta will cook the eggs!!' but I don't trust that lol so I do keep it on the low heat as I stir it for about a minute or so, and then I take it off the heat and serve it immediately. With more parmesan on top, of course.

The other three main things that I cook that are actually pretty decent/interesting come from some recipe books that I have, but they are: Sausage and Bacon Casserole, Chicken in Cider (this one is AMAZING and also so easy but looks very impressive haha), and Pork in Apple Gravy (also amazing, but less simple - you kinda make a roux sauce but use apple juice rather than milk!). I also like a lot of vegetarian food, so my mum and I work together to make a really lovely nut roast from an old recipe book, and also stir fry with cashew nuts fried in soy sauce, and I'm actually hoping to try and make a vegan version of that first recipe with pine nuts and cashews rather than bacon for my vegan friend who makes her own pesto at some point!

Anyway!! Hope the person who originally asked me this sees this lol, and if not I hope it's interesting for other people! I'm always interested in new recipes that don't involve spices because I'm very weak when it comes to heat in food (like......peppery sauces taste spicy to me RIP) so if anyone has any recommendations, send them my way!

ok so. some of my erchius headcanons can be applied to main lore pretty easily but the other half make more sense in the context of uh. my main "au" is probably the best term for it. I made some pretty big additions to starbound lore for my own stories (which i have not elaborated on much yet). l'll put anything about my main au under a readmore for organization. Edit (Aug 23): I will be putting the au stuff in a reblog. I need to get this post out of my drafts. (Aug 25): Stay tuned for the reblog! It's going to be a lot of oc backstory stuff but also wider worldbuliding.

(For the sake of clarity, I will be referring to the 'Crystal Erchius Fuel' as 'Surface Erchius' and the 'Crystal Erchius' building block as simply 'Crystal Erchius.' Liquid Erchius stays the same.)

Erchius Miners distract the ghost to dig deeper

The most common method, illustrated above, is to gather a large amount of surface erchius and attach it to a ship that will maintain a low enough orbit for the ghost to follow. Surprisingly enough, this method can be considered SpOSHA (Space OSHA) compliant as long as all the necessary guidelines are followed. Most of the guidelines pertain to the amount of time a ship stays in orbit and making sure all miners are evacuated long before the next mandatory ship downtime.

Erchius crystal is a highly regulated, dangerous substance

Even before the first Erchius Incident (emergence of the Erchius Horror) many twisted and malformed bodies would appear in the depths of Erchius mines across the known galaxy. When the accounts of "flesh warping' began to pile up, the Terrene Protectorate banned all Terrene civilians from entering a certain depth into the mines, and then eventually banned entrance into mines completely. This resulted in many mines in protectorate/proc. allied space either shutting down completely, switching to remote controlled mining robots, or continuing operations as usual, illegally. The output from the remote mines decreased considerably after the increase in regulation, resulting in a shortage of ship FTL fuel and an increase in frequency of surface erchius mining by ship crews. Resulting in more erchius ghost-related deaths and injuries.

The illegal mines however, are run by two sorts of groups: Small Covert Groups from the local star system or Letheia Corp. The local groups usually depend heavily on Liquid Erchius in interstellar trade, especially if they don't have any other resources that would be profitable outside their solar system. Many local trade routes/services rely on bartering systems rather than pixels, making the acquisition of out of system resources all the more dependent on the availability of local resources. Now, with the protectorate scrambled and Earth destroyed, many isolated colonies that relied on the backing of the Terrene Protectorate in times of crisis must now rely on more transactional relationships for the acquisition of necessities produced out of their system and for security.

Letheia corp. mines operate on a whole other level. Where the goal of the local mines often is to support one or more colonies, the goal of the corporate mines is to monopolize a market, thereby securing the dependence of most FTL travel in the known galaxy. The majority of Letheia mines started out as local mines and then were bought out by Letheia, who dug deeper than the original owners. To the core. Surprisingly, once they were done, they would give the mines back to the original owners. However, most of what Letheia took from these mines was not Liquid or Surface Erchius, but their Core. Which leads to my next subject:

The Letheia Lunar Bases (A.K.A. The Erchius Mining Facilities) are artificially created Erchius moons

By transplanting the core of an Erchius Moon into a rogue planet, Letheia Corp. created artificial erchius mines substantially larger and efficient than any known erchius moon. However, the chance of an erchius core successfully establishing itself in a new planet are low. If Letheia has at least 12 of these Lunar Bases, who knows how many cores they burned through to get that far. When a natural erchius moon loses its core, the ghost disappears. Over time, the pockets of Liquid Erchius will deplete, no longer resupplied by the core. By taking the core of the local mines, Letheia destroys a renewable resource that most colonies depend on to engage in local and interstellar trade.

So why hasn't anybody done something about this? Well, Letheia is pretty good at covering up after themselves. (They're not the largest mega corp in the known galaxy for nothing.) Before the Ruin destroyed Earth, the local miners that had their Erchius Core taken by Letheia might have complained to the Protectorate, but what can they say? They sold their mine to Letheia and then Letheia gave it back for a fraction of the cost. But it doesn't stop there. By the time the local miners realize the Liquid Erchius is not replenishing, it's too late to search for other resources. They're desperate for solutions. And in comes Letheia corp. with an offer the miners won't refuse: Come work on the new Lunar Bases. In exchange, Letheia will set up stations in their solar system and add them to the Letheia trade routes. The miners are assured that the Lunar Bases may be farther away, but the working conditions are much safer. On the surface, this is a miracle deal, but anyone whose played the game knows: It's a deal too good to be true.

Honestly i do really appreciate this new trend of being happy and joyous whimsy and shit that has appeared on tumblr because it is a really wonderful thing to aspire to, and it’s really amazing to see so many people genuinely healing. But i really don’t like those posts that are acting like you are a scourge on society and the people around you if you’re like. Visibly and obviously depressed/suicidal/whatever and having a bad time. Like there’s an in between here…… not everyone is always going to be happy and whimsical and enjoying the beauty of life all the time….. sometimes mentally ill people are still going to act mentally ill…. Did you guys forget that… please don’t forget that… we are still trying

#i need to vent and i know u guys cant stand me because i can feel it (and certainly from the anon hate) but i think im gonna have an ulcer #if i dont put this out somewhere #SH s*icide tw !!!!! #i need some advice or opinions because i feel like im losing it #i dont understand why my friends cant care about me #i know !!! i know i seem out of touch and insane because i say this so often and the question to someone reading would come natural: maybe #it is just ur perception…. maybe u suck ass as a friend too #and i do ponder about that!!!!!! i take those possibilities into consideration i do. and i genuinely dont think i suck as a friend. i always #check in. if they seem off i ask how they feel. i ask updates on their stuff. i dont think i deserve this tbh #but especially when i am struggling they just disappear #like even when i reach out and let them know im doing bad. they clearly read my measages and choose to ignore them #these are supposed to be my best friends #these days ive been so bad. and trigger warning again #i just feel so suicidal and i have been hurting myself in the desperate attempt to cope and manage these thoughts #and i dont tell them these things #i dont share the details because 1) it is too much to dump on someone and 2) they dont show any interest even on the surface level of my #problems so i just wouldnt tell them the deeper issues #i am just in so much pain. and i also feel a lot of anger because of their behavior. i feel so so hurt by it. so many years of this going on #of them just not even acknowledging my struggles while i was in the midst of them and trying still to support them and be there for e #whatever they had going on. and getting nothing in return #i hate that i feel so angry but i do. and ive been swallowing this anger and pain for so long i feel it eating my insides #even my therapist doesnt understand why i am friends with people that dont care about me #i dont know what i should do #i want to say something #actually i already talked about this to one of them one year ago exactly and i told her all these things and she just said she didnt know #why i was ignored. and then still kept being a part of it #the thing is i am so upset and my mental health is so so so bad. i am supposed to spend new years eve with them in two days but i dont know #how i can do that feeling like this #but if i speak to them about it i think it will also ruin the mood #if someone has any thoughts or advice it would be very welcome….

I’m reading Good Omens again and thinking about how Crowley and Aziraphale aren’t really men and aren’t really humans etc. Then I started thinking about the sentiment that even if being queer was a choice, people would still choose to be queer and how Aziraphale choses to appear as a gay man. He choses to be the kind of person who gets called “the southern pansy”. That’s a choice that he made.

#gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. southern pansy. talking like a poofter. #good omens is FULL of people being derogatory towards aziraphale because they perceive him to be a gay man #and yet he doesn’t change #my own post #i think that’s why all the talk about how he was (and is) a gay auntie are so close to my heart #of course he would be! if you’re going to make the choice to be perceived as a gay man with all that entails why wouldn’t you take every #bay gay and struggling queer sibling under your wing? especially if you’re an angel #aziraphale is - at his core - a good person. a kind person. and he chooses to make the lgbtq+ community hos community #he makes that choice. and he sticks to it. there’s got to have been easier things to have done throughout history but no. #aziraphale is one of us because he chose to be. #and we can too. maybe you can’t choose your gender or sexuality but you can choose to be part of the community and you can choose to be out #and those are important decisions. big decisions. we always have choice and I’m so so proud of everyone who chooses to be here #that being said. quoting from bbc trigonometry- what you’re doing is brave as hell but it’s just as brave to walk away #it’s brave to be out. but it’s just as brave to be in. not in the same way no but it takes courage all the same #aziraphale #good omens
