Two days before March break ✏️

One Piece story about Luffy going to school but everything's wrong

Modern AU / High school AU

Warnings: implied depression, implied eating disorder

I like angst and you might not like the ending bc it's angst without comfort :>

There's an attempt at comfort, but sometimes it just doesn't work out, y'know?

Luffy POV:

I woke up a little before my alarm went off, only a few minutes before 6 so I just decided to to turn it off and get ready. I'd recently gotten in a lot of trouble for having missed a lot of time at school so to make up for it I've gone every day this week and last week dispite not having had weekends for the past two weeks due to drivers Ed.

I grabbed my phone and turned off my alarm which was called "good morning bitch" thanks to me not bothering to change it as the phone used to belong to Ace before he bought a new one. After turning off my alarm I sit on the side of my bed for a little while, trying to stieve off some of the tiredness from my sleep deprivation from the past two weeks. Eventually I get up, the clock says 6:15, so I know I've been sitting there for a while. I leave my room, grabbing some clothes on the way out and head to the washroom to have a shower before Ace or Sabo can since they always use all the hot water.

Once in the washroom I get a good look at myself in the mirror above the sink. My eyes have obvious bags under them and my hair is more of a mess than usual. I gently touch my face, not believing that what I was seeing in the mirror was really me. I run my fingers over the scar on my cheek, the mirror reflects this action, I know it's me I'm looking at.

I mumble to myself, "have I looked like this all week..?" Suddenly wondering if it's been this bad for a while or if it's just today that's really weighing on me.

I shake my head a bit and continue on with my morning routine. I use the toilet and dispite knowing I'll be going straight to the shower I wash my hands, not wanting to touch anything with dirty hands. I strip my clothes off and take off my jewelry. I'm aware that it's strange to wear jewelry to bed, but I know I'd forget I even own it if I didn't have it on at all times. I gently set the lotus flower necklace on the counter alone with my many rings, bracelets and my two anklets. I look at myself in the mirror one last time, sighing and turning away, getting into the shower, preparing myself for the cold water before it heats up.

While in the shower I just stand and let my thoughts and aches numb in the constant stream of hot water. It stings a little as it hits my skin, but it feels good, it feels like it's melting away all my stress, all my pain, everything, I don't have to think in this water, I can just stand here and relax.

After a little while I sigh, knowing I actually have to clean myself and I can't just stand there all day. I grab my face scrub and apply it to my face, trying to avoid getting any in my eyes. I gently wash it off after a little while, then move onto my shampoo. I grab the honey scented shampoo and put some in my hand before putting it on my head. I learned from previous times to always be sure I look at it first because Ace and Sabo once pranked me by putting dye in my shampoo bottle, my hair was green for weeks. Next I wash my body with birthday cake scented body wash that Nami bought for me, it smells amazing, it makes me wish I actually had cake.

After I get out of the shower it's around 6:40. I put moisturizer on and put my clothes on soon after. I decided to wear my friend, Law's, hoodie that I snatched from him a while back. I'm sure he won't mind me wearing it, he definitely knows by now that I have it and he hasn't asked for it back. And with that I wear some bell bottom jeans and put on some grey socks with pink hearts. I then put all of my jewelry back on and leave the washroom to go make myself breakfast.

I walk into the kitchen and make myself waffles. Sabo walks into the kitchen looking tired, he gives me a quick good morning, grabbing a granola bar and walking away to get ready for work. Seeing Sabo reminds me to leave a note for Ace, asking him to pick me up after school as I didn't want to go on the bus. I write the note, trying to make my handwriting legible but I don't think it worked very well. Oh well, Ace probably knows what I want anyway, and if he doesn't, he knows it's my handwriting so he can just message me and ask what I was trying to say.

My waffles are finally finished so I put syrup and raspberries on them and I go back to my room to eat. It's now 7:05, I'm still in no rush, the bus doesn't come until 7:40, so I'll be fine for a while. I eat my waffles and play games on my phone.

It's 7:35, so I decide to go put my shoes on, grab my bag and walk to my bus stop. My house and bus stop are in really convenient places. My house is right on the corner of an intersection so the bus goes up the side street and comes back down then stops in front of my house, giving me about 8 minutes between when I see it go up and when it comes back down. So I go put my shoes on, brush my teeth, grab my bag and go wait out front of my house. The neighbors kids walk over to the bus stop but make no effort to talk with me.

The bus finally shows up and I get on, sitting in the back. I recognize a boy named Eustass Kid sitting across from me, he and I were friends when we were younger, but we don't talk much now, though I wouldn't say we're on bad terms, just drifted apart over the years. He sees me look at him and gives me a quick smile before returning to staring out the window. I see he has earbuds in so I don't bother talking to him. I just sit silently in my seat until the bus gets to our school, checking up on my cats in Nekoatsume.

We finally get to the school, it's now 8:08. I get off the bus, stumbling a bit because I'm so tired. I walk into the school and make my way to my first class, Mi'kmaq studies. The class is okay, but many of the students are grade 9's and 10's and they really act like it. The teacher is nice, he usually just plays a video and has us answer some questions. The thing I really like about this class though is this boy that I've been friends with for two years now. His name is Trafalgar Law. I've dated many people in the past two years, but I just can't get my mind off him, heck I even have his sweater and I'm wearing it! We aren't together though and I don't even think he's interested in romance, so I just try to keep it friendly with him, but gods do I wish we were more.

8:30. Class has officially begun and Mr. Teacher man, I don't know, I wasn't really paying attention to his name at the start of the semester, he told us it's just going to be a catch up day since it's so close to March break. A catch up day for me and Law basically just means a free class though because Law's always on top of his work and has it all done and I just don't do my work, not in class at least.

Law and I talk for a while, I was telling him about what I'd done the prior day when he wasn't at school due to him being at his co-op course. I didn't do anything particularly interesting while he was gone, but we did have a test in English so I told him about that. He seemed annoyed that he'd missed a test meaning he'll have to do it today. After a little while we both sat in comfortable silence, he gave me a soft smile and I smiled back at him. He then went on his phone and just played some games while I read some good fanfiction on Tumblr.

9:50. The bell rings for second period. Me and Law both have a free so we go to this bench that we both always sit at together. I sit on the right side and he sits on the left. He puts his phone away and asks me to quiz him on the English test as I'd taken it the day before. I start asking him what sub-genres are in the main genres.

"okay, what are the sub-genres in Plays?" I ask after stuttering trying to think of a good question to ask in relation to the english test.

"oh..uh..tragedy anddddd comedy..?" Law responds not sounding completely confident he continues, ' is there a their one..?"

I quickly respond," nope! It's just the two and you go them right!"

We continue this for about 20 minutes before my friend Robin messages me and asks me to go down to the end of the hall because she'd like to give me something. I excuse myself and leave Law with my bag, telling him I'll be back in a few minutes.

I quickly walk to where Robin is, asking what she wants to give me. She tells me she's been learning to crochet and hands me this lopsided from she made. It looks really strange, but it's adorable at the same time. I tell her I love it and give her a hug, she hugs back before saying she has to go before Nami gets mad at her. She leaves with a wave and a quick goodbye, I return her goodbye and head back to Law.

When I return to Law he seems to have given up on studying for now and is just playing Minecraft on his phone. I sit down beside him and he welcomes me back, asking if I want to play Minecraft with him as he knows I have it on my laptop in my bag. I tell him I'd love to play with him and I pull out my laptop. I realize that I don't have a flat surface to put my mouse on so I sit on the floor. Law scoots around a bit on the bench so my head is now between his legs so I can red my head on either of his legs if I so please. I look up at him with a smile, he blushes and tells me not to look at him like that when I'm there. I giggle and start booting up Minecraft. We play together for the rest of our free period.

11:20. The bell for third period rings. It's English, Law will be taking his test, most likely in a different room so I won't be able to sit with him so instead when I get into the English room I sit with Zoro and Sanji.

Our teacher takes everyone that still needs to do the test to a different room and leaves them with the T.A. she returns to her classroom, us all sitting and chatting, Sanji and Zoro both arguing about who they think got the better mark on their test. I don't bother to join in, knowing I either failed or just barely passed.

Our teacher hand back out grades tests. Turns out Sanji and Zoro got the same mark, 88%. Good for them, I'm happy they're doing so well dispite their constant arguing. Unfortunately them getting the same mark prompted more arguing. I don't mind though, I wouldn't be their friend if I did mind.

I check my mark and my already dead looking face gets pale, I passed with a 51, my mark is just barely clinging on, Ace and Sabo are gonna flip out! They're not going to get upset about my poor marks, they'll just get upset that I didn't ask them for help studying or help at all. I was lucky earlier that Sabo was too tired to notice how much of a mess I am, but when Ace picks me up after school he'll get a clear view of it. I don't want to stress them out...not more than they already are.

I ultimately decide to hide my test and pretend it didn't happen.

12:30. It's lunch time. I forgot to make myself a lunch I've been so out of it lately. This is the fourth day in the row I've forgotten...I'm starting to get used to the empty feeling in my stomach, it almost feels good...no no...Luffy...you can't....I can't be thinking these thoughts.....

I decide for lunch I want to be alone, so I just go sit in my next class and wait for lunch to be over, passing the time having a nap at my desk.

1:20. The bell rings for last period. Math class. Normally people don't like math but I actually find it quite easy, so I don't mind it usually. Today though, I just want to lay down and die, I can't take it, I can't take anymore classes, not even a class that I like, it's all just too much.

I keep my head down and cry quietly, I don't budge when the teacher hands me a worksheet. I eventually stop crying, but I just keep my head on my desk, waiting until final bell finally goes and I can go home and sleep.

2:00. There's 30 minutes until the end of the day bell rings. I can't take it anymore, I message ask, asking him to pick me up now. Ace responds quickly, saying he'll be here soon. He knows something's wrong, he normally tells me to be patient. Was Sabo actually awake enough this morning to notice how tired I look?

2:15. Ace finally arrives and he calls the school. I'm called down to the office so they can tell me he's here as if I didn't already know.

I walk out to Ace's car, getting in, completely exhausted.

"bud...oh..what happened..?" Ace isn't normally like this with me, usually opting to call me a cry baby, maybe it's my lack of energy? Am I killing everyone's mood..?

I mumble tiredly, "let's just go home..."

"okay." Ace says softly, driving off and taking me home.

Once we get home I kick my shoes off and leave my bag on the kitchen counter and lock myself in my room before Ace can even say anything. That doesn't stop Ace from going to my room and knocking on the door.

"do you wanna be alone or do you need someone right now?" Ace asks me in a soft tone.

I respond tiredly, "if you can just stay outside my door that'd be nice..."

Ace responds quickly, still in a soft tone, "of course I can do that...if you wanna talk later, don't be afraid to talk to me or Sabo, you'll never be bothering us, okay?"

I shed a few tears, "okay."

I drift off to sleep, finally getting the rest I've needed for weeks. Though that's not all the weighs on me, it's a big help to not be dealing with things while sleep deprived.

the overhead lights flickering above scaramouche, he stood there for a moment. silent between the both of you, seeing you walk further away from him. he knew that you thought he wouldn't had agreed which is why you had pulled the previous tricks. replying so late wouldn't be too awkward right?

"so when are we meeting up?"

hearing his voice reply back made you stop in your tracks. even though you knew that he took the bait from your trap, he could've just willingly not go and you'll accept that. turning around in the fluorescent lit hallways, "maybe during the weekends... is that okay with you?"

scaramouche pretended to be deep in thought just to mess with you, "hmm, i don't knoww..."

luckily for you, you have a lot more tricks up your sleeves. to trick a cat, you have to make it jealous for hanging out with another cat. although, you did feel a little guilty using a student scaramouche despises, it is worth it for both of you guys' grades.

“ Kafka with a Smart Academic Achiever ”

You were in your late years of university, a straight A student with a high gpa. You were also with Kafka, the most sought after person in uni, who also has good grades.

Why does she like you? You're not sure, but she makes sure you know she loves you. She takes you to hang out at the café near the university you two attend and sometimes study's there with you.

Kafka slacked off a bit on her homework and some minor assignments (to your surprise), but she still has A’s and is extremely smart. You work late into the night sometimes and Kafka comes to your dorm to check on you and make sure you go to bed and not deprive yourself of the sleep you deserve — is how she puts it.

You share a lot of classes together and Kafkas friends (who have now become your friends) — Blade and Silver Wolf, or Silver. You four are a friend group with the two dealing with Kafkas flirtatious antics during passing time between classes. It's nothing extreme, just some comments here and there and hand holding. It earn a sigh from Blade and an eyeroll from Silver.

You visit each others dorms frequently just to hang out whether it's just the two of you or with Blade and Silver, doesn't matter. As long as she gets to hang out with you.

Kafka helps you on assignments and homework even if you say you don't need it, she'll help you regardless. Unless you keep telling her, then she'll willingly back off. Will stay in your room though until you're done with your work.

Spends as much time as she can with you, but isn't exactly clingy and will back off if you want her too. She's a very understanding person.

If you're stressed out from school then she'll do whatever you want whether that be staying cooped up in your dorm or going outside, it's up to you. As long as you take a well needed break, she's up for anything you want to do.

No matter the situation you both have in university, she'll stick by your side, and so will your guys’ friends. Until the end Kafka will wait for you, and she'll wait for forever for her beloved. ✧

Chapter 7: this world is only gonna break your heart

If Miguel had a nickel for everytime you had been attacked by a monster-like man creature, and had to be rescued by him, he’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.

The police had made quick work for once and had evacuated the area, making sure to keep up when the scene moved from the aquarium back over to Coney Island. News choppers keeping a distance from where they flew in the air, capturing live footage of your capturer dodging police, using you as a human shield in an attempt to keep bullets from being fired in his direction. You would have squirmed against the blue tentacles that wrapped around your body, if it weren’t for him holding you hostage on top of the wonder wheel, one wrong move and you could slip off, or worse, he could drop you off it like you were nothing more than a piece of trash.

Your pleas fell on deaf ears as you begged to be let go, to be placed back on ground level, but he wouldn’t even glance in your direction, instead opting to look out into the crowd, watching, waiting. He seemed to be getting impatient, you could tell by the irritated huff he let out, before you felt his limb tighten slightly before your feet began to be lifted off the narrow steel beams underneath themselves. Your hands instinctively go to grip the blue ampendage, you let out a screech, your throat raw as you begged for him to not let go, your tears cascading down your face as he waits. If you were thinking clearly, it would have clicked in your mind. You were acting as bait.

The wind was knocked out of your lungs as you were suddenly webbed against the bright orange Farris wheel, a sob escapes your lips as you quickly evert your eyes from the floor that was at least 50 yards beneath you, praying to whatever gods would listen to make sure the neon red silk wouldn’t decide to snap underneath you, while you felt the octopus-man’s tentacle pull away from you.

“Spider-Man! I see my favorite insect finally decided to join us.”

“Doc ock.” Spider-Man grumbled as he began to scale the amusement park ride. “What do I owe the displeasure to this time.” Finally, he decided to move from his spot at the top of the Farris wheel, both men leaving you basically forgotten. Doc ock didn’t justify the remark with an answer, rather begins to weave himself between the teal metal beams, as Spider-Man went after him, attempting to trap him in webs as he followed. Like a game of cat and mouse. “Let’s get this over with doc, we both know how this is gonna end.”

You had no idea what was happening behind you, but you did know that every time they gripped onto the metal of the wheel as they used it like a jungle gym the whole thing would shake, it was utterly terrifying. You were never partially scared of heights before, but now you definitely were. The adrenaline rush was making your blood pump and your heart beat to ring in your ears, trying to take deep breaths as you bit your lip to keep your whimpers and sobs low. Why couldn’t one of those damn news hoppers grab you?

You have no idea how long you’ve been stuck against the Farris wheel, but it feels like an eternity.

Finally, you let out a gasp as you heard one of the webs begin to rip from beneath you, feeling the thin silk brush lightly against your ankle as it slowly begins to unwind. Instinctively you grabbed onto one of the webs that was a bit higher on your body, one that seemed thicker, more sturdy, just in time for the unwinding of the web on your lower half to pick up speed. You let out another yelp as you finally felt the webbing snap and fall down, letting out a sob as it flowed away in the wind, as you tried to hoist yourself up higher on the neon red webs.

“Help! Spider-Man help!” Your pleas reached Miguel’s ears faster than anyone else’s would have, he quickly glanced up and saw you were quite literally hanging from a thread. If he wasn’t quick enough, you’d surely plummet and be severely injured, or worse… “I’m gonna fall! Please!” You interrupted yourself with another scream as you watched in horror as the sting of web you were depending on to keep yourself up, starts to slowly rip away due to gravity. Miguel let out a frustrated huff, as he stopped for a second to catch his breath, he could throw that nasty octopus in the slammer another time, he couldn’t let you get injured again. He wouldn’t.

“I’m coming!” Doc ock was quickly dropped from Miguel’s mind as fast as the octopus fled the scene. Miguel begins to quickly climb back up to your level, unfortunately, his strength and speed shook the metal structure as he climbed back up, leaving small claw marks as he re-ascended the Farris wheel. The shaking only sped up the deteriorating of the web you were holding onto, until-

Snap.

You were screaming but you couldn’t hear anything but a ringing in your ears that was getting more intense every inch you got closer to the floor. The watching crowd could only let out a collective gasp as they watched your descent, mothers covering their children’s ears and eyes, teenagers recording on their phones, your teachers that were supervising watching in horror knowing that this was going to be a PR nightmare for the boarding school despite if you somehow managed to get out unscathed.

You were so petrified and out of it that you didn’t even realized that Spider-Man had jumped off after you until you felt his arm cling around your waist, pulling back out of your deer-in-headlights-like state, causing your arms to instinctively around his neck before using his free hand to shoot a web onto the wonder wheel, stop you both only 20 feet or so before you would have hit the floor. Your hearing slowly started to come back to, hearing the sounds of the crowd of onlookers clapping and cheering on the masked vigilante.

“Hey.” Your head snapped over to him once he finally spoke, both of your chest heaving rapidly.

“Hey.” You smiled.

“We need to stop meeting like this.” He joked, and you didn’t have to see his face under his mask to know his smile widened when you let out a shaky laugh at the quip.

“Can you put me down now Mr.Spider-Man?” You asked with a small giggle, readjusting your arms around his neck, now he was the one who let out a shaky chuckle.

“Right , right…” he mumbled before he started to lower you both down, gently helping you to your feet, expecting him to do the same, but instead he just flipped himself upside down as he hung from the red web in front of you.

And you weren’t sure if it was the post-almost dying adrenaline rushing through your bloodstream, or if it was your mind being clouded by the utter most gratefulness at the fact that he had saved you from death’s clutches more then once, but you did something you’d never do if you were thinking 100% correctly, knowing you’ll probably be embarrassed by the actions when your replaying the memories late at night in bed, but right now, that wasn’t gonna stop you. The crowd or the news choppers watching you wasn’t gonna stop you either.

So, taking in a deep breath for courage, you go to bring your hand up to his face and dip your finger under his mask and lifting it just above his nose. You had paused for a second once your hands traveled to rest on either side of his still covered temples, just to give him the ability to recover the lower half of his face and pushed you away if he wanted, and you were really expecting him too. But instead, you watched as his plump lips pulled up (down?) into a small smirk, taking this as your greenlight, you leaned forward, letting your lips meet.

You finally understood what authors meant when they would write about feeling fireworks. You finally understood why rom-com movies would play grand music during the main characters sharing a kiss. Your heart swells as your eyes closed, you felt like you could kiss Spider-Man forever. You really want to.

“Get it spidey!”

“That’s (Y/N), isn’t it?”

“Oh my god it is!”

The comments from the still watching crowd brought you down from high, cheeks redding as you heard a random stand-byer let out a whistle. Suddenly reminding you of your shameless act as you pulled away from the upside down spider, who only let out an amused chuckle as he pulled down his mask again, it coming out a bit breathless due to him still recovering from the kiss/fight.

You go to whip your mouth as you finally turn away from him, and you immediately spot Mj and Pete at the front of the metal fence that the police had placed to keep the crowd away from the whole ordeal. Your embarrassed smile only widens when you say his hand resting on her waist.

Miguel’s smile had never been wider when he walked back into his shared room, his brother already sprawled on his own bed as he fumbled and fidgeted with a rubix cube. Glancing at his brother when he heard the door click close.

“Wonder what’s got you all smiles? Would it happen to be a certain kiss from a certain girl?” Gabriel teased, his smirk causing Miguel to roll his eyes.

“I don’t know what you're talking about.” Miguel quipped, pulling his windbreaker off and tossing it in the hamper.

“Don’t play dumb Mig, it’s all over the news and the internet.” Gabriel scoffed as he placed the incomplete cube on his chest, before propping himself up on his elbows. “What happened to hating her?”

Now it’s the elder of the two to scoff. “I still do.”

“Then why didn’t you stop her?”

“Well- I didn’t want to embarrass her! There was a crowd and news crews-“

Gabriel fully sits up on his bed. “Just admit it Miguel! You don’t hate her! Hell, you're probably in love with her!”

“I’m not taking this crap. I’m going out for a walk.” Miguel grumbled before getting up from his seat on his own bed, his brother only rolling his eyes at his dramatics. It wasn’t until he closed the door after stepping out of his dorm that it hit him like a freight train.

Gabriel was right. He didn’t hate you as much as he liked to lead on…

Fuck.

“I’m going to go practice some firebending forms,” Zuko says stiffly, running a hand through the tangles in his hair. “Tell Aang to join me if he wants to once he wakes up.” Gold eyes dart up to where Aang had strung up a makeshift hammock and was still sleeping soundly, snoring like a buffalo yak.

“Alright,” Sokka says, watching as he walks out without another word, evidently having reverted back into his usual brooding self. “Have fun!” He calls after Zuko loudly, which he means to be sarcastic, but comes out painfully, embarrassingly sincere. His face burns, and as soon as Zuko passes out of sight into the the temple, Katara turns to him, leveling him with a Look.

“You like him.” She says, and it’s not a question.

Zuko knew this would happen one day.

He really should've prepared better.

Of course, he'd imagined something like this many times. He'd see him-- or anyone from high school, really-- and he wouldn't even be recognized. They'd be immediately enamored with him and wouldn't even pause to think he looked like that one girl from high school.

Instead, he has a 24-year-old Sokka cradling a swollen wrist and smiling awkwardly up at Zuko.

Have a little monster high au as a treat to myself mostly. I am making so many aus...

Taylor is a demon obviously, his shirt says "demon cat" or at least my attemt at it saying that cause idk japanese, his color pallet was a pain as always and i'm still not super happy with how he turned out.

Link is a frankenstein esque monster (partially cause he was "choosen" by his dads/created and he never asked for it and the angst of that, partially cause he's new to the school and life, partially cause i like to give him a lightning motive and partially cause frankenpeaden), he borows from the other teens color pallets (normals mostly) and i wanted to give him a kinda awkward jock like look.

Scary is a wampire/witch, cause she has magic but also because of Terry Jr's whole wampire thing. She was the easiest to design, she has red accents because of hatred, and purple as her main color. Her skirt is kinda bat wing like, she has fang shoes and her hair has fang like stripes.

Normal looks the most like his usual self, a normie (haha) hes partially fea partially werewolf, some part ancient god and half human (from rebecca). He went to a normal middle school and elementary but wanted to attend monster hs (hero went to monster school before but then stuff happened and she goes to monster game school or something) sparrow desperatly wants to appear normal, but as we all know all oaks are freaks (affectionate) so he can't, (he was bit as a kid, lark isnt a werewolf and they were/are half fea (henry) half driad and have some doodler dna cause shenanigans)
