I want to talk about something. I want to talk about ableism in fandom. And sexism in fandom. Oh, and racism in fandom.

Mostly though, I wanna talk about how the discussion about these things often gets derailed because people don't understand what trends and typical behaviors actually are.

Whenever a Person of Color, a woman, someone disabled, someone queer (or an intersection of any of these groups) points out that certain fandom trends are bigoted in some shape or form, half the replies seem to be "but they are my comfort character! Maybe people just like them better because they are more interesting!" or even "people are allowed to have headcanons!" - the very daft even go for a "don't bring politics into fandom" which is a personal favorite because nothing exists in a vacuum and nothing is truly apolitical. But alas~

What most of these replies seemingly fail to understand is something very, very simple: it's not about you.

You, as an individual, are just one datapoint in a fandom. You are not the trend. You do not necessarily depict the typical behavior.

When someone points out that there is racism in fandom, that doesn't mean every fan is racist or perpetuating racist ideas*. By constantly mentioning your own lack of racism, quite often, you are actively derailing the conversation away from the problems at hand.

When someone names and describes a trend, they don't mean your headcanon specifically - they mean the accumulated number of headcanons perpetuating a harmful or outdated idea.

I am not saying this to forbid anyone from writing fics about their favorite characters or to keep anyone from having fun headcanons and sharing their theories and thoughts - quite the opposite actually. A critique of a general trend is not a critique of you as an individual - and you're going to have a much better, and more productive, time online if you can internalize that. If you stop growing defensive and instead allow yourself to actually digest the message of what was pointed out.

I am saying this to encourage some critical thinking.

Allow me to offer up some examples:

Case 1: A DC blogger made the daring statement that maybe Tim and Jason were such a popular fanfic focus because they are the only two undeniably white batboys. Immediately someone replied saying "no, it's all the fun traumatic situations we can put them in!". Which is an insane statement to make, considering the same can be said for literally ANY OTHER DC Batman and Batfam character.

The original post wasn't anything groundbreaking, they didn't accuse anyone, didn't name any names... but immediately there was a justification, immediately there was a reason why people might like these characters more. No one stopped to take a second and reflect on the current trends in fanfiction, no one considered that maybe this wasn't a declaration against people who like these characters but a thesis depicting the OVERALL trend of fandom once again focusing on undeniably white (and male) characters.

(don't get me started on the racebending of white characters in media that has a big Cast of Color and the implications of that)

Case 2: A meta posted on Ao3 about ableism in the Criminal Minds fandom caught my attention. A wonderful piece, very thoughtful, analyzing certain characterization choices within the fandom through the lens of an actually autistic person. The conclusion they reached: the writing of Spencer Reid as an autistic character, while often charming and comforting, tended to be incredibly infantilizing and at worst downright ableist. They came to that conclusion while CLEARLY stating that the individual fanfic wasn't the problem, but the general fandom trend in depicting this character.

Once again, looking at the replies seemed to be a mistake: while many comments furthered the discussion, there were quite a few which completely missed the point. Some were downright hostile. Because how dare this author imply that THEY are ableist when they write their favorite character using that specific characterization.

It didn't matter that the author allowed room for personal interpretation. It didn't matter that they noted something concerning about the entire fandom - people still thought they were attacking singular people.

Case 3: I wrote a fic about abortion in the FMA(b) fandom (actually I've written a weird amount of fics about abortion in a lot of fandoms, but alas) and I got hate comments for it. Because of that I addressed the bias in fandom against pro-choice depictions of pregnancies. I pointed out that the utter lack of abortion in many omegaverse stories or even mpreg or het romances, painted the picture of an unconscious bias that hurt people for whom abortion was the only option, the best possible ending. The response on the post itself was mostly positive, but I got anon hate.

And I'm not overly broken up about it, but it also underlines my point: by pointing at a general problem, a typical behavior, a larger trend... people feel personally attacked.

This inability to discuss sexism, ableism, racism, transphobia, etc in fandom without people turning defensive and hurt... well, it damages our ability to have these conversations at all.

Earlier I said YOU are not the problem - well, i think part of this discussion is acknowledging that: sometimes YOU are in fact part of the problem. And that's not the end of the world. But you can only recognize yourself as a cog in the machine, if you can examine your own actions, your own biases, your own preferences critically and without becoming defensive.

And, again, this is not to keep you from finding comfort in your favorite characters and headcanons. This is also not to say that I am free of biases and internalized bigotries - I am also very much a part of the system. A part of the problem.

This is so you can comfortably ask yourself "but why is there no abortion in this universe?" or "why are my favorite black characters always the top in my slash ships?" or "why do I write this disabled character as childish and in need of help?" - and sometimes the answer is "because I am disabled and I want comfort", and that's fine too.

There is no one shoe fits all in fiction. There is not a single trope that captures all members of a group. There is no single stereotype that isn't also someone's comfort. No group is a monolith, no experienced all-encompasing (or entirely unique).

There is never a simple answer.

But that doesn't mean you should stop questioning your own biases, your own ideals.

Especially, if you grow defensive if someone points out that a certain trend you engage in might be racist. Or sexist. Or queerphobic. Or fucking ableist.

*this does not mean negate the general anti-blackness perpetuated by most cultures as a result of colonialism and slavery

Okay. This is it. Theory time.

I'm going to write an essay on "how I love elaborate lore in Mystic Hands by @characcoon " It may or may not be a complete circus, but at least you'll have fun watching me getting it wrong eh?

Okay, first of all, let me put on my clown suit for this performance. Because, I'll be honest, I can only understand 70% of a complex text if I don't use a translator. And the translator also tends to change the meaning of the text.

I'm also writing this essay through a translator and just hoping for the best, so...ahahaha...yeah.

Chapters nine and ten of Mystic Hands gave me something to think about. Mostly because, all of a sudden, Bishop and his lab-military squad turned out to be more than background characters. And let me tell you, I grew up on the 2003 series. I may not remember all the nuances of the plot there very well, but I remember the asshole named Bishop perfectly~ But I'm not sure how similar 2003 Bishop and MH Bishop are, so I'm just...anxious in advance and start looking for things that would ring a bell.

From what I learned in chapters 9 and 10:

Bishop is an asshole.

He has his precious organization.

He also has access to empyrium and a recipe for crafting an incredibly toxic herbicide.

He also has a mustache. ( funny how this part puzzles me the most)

Michelangelo talks about him as a cruel and despicable scumbag who should have been rolled in asphalt at the first opportunity. He also calls Bishop a liar, so I guess in the future Bishop and the turtles have a... "adventure" haha... And of course we all know how fun stories with a cruel scientist and mutants can be. Yep.

This is where I start trying to put the puzzle together.

When Michelangelo sees the glowing blue stuff in the vials he reacts rather emotionally and says it could be a version of a anti-mutagen. He also says that it might help bring Raph back to normal when he asks Donnie to analyze the thing.

Donnie does the analysis.

The so-called "anti-mutagen" turns out to be an herbicide. Yes, very toxic and suspect and containing empyrium, but only herbicide.

In this moment. ONLY at that moment does Michelangelo realize that his information about the substance and its capabilities was wrong. And for SOME reason, it makes him absolutely furious.

And this is where the shit hits the fan.

Everything written above leads me to believe that the Turtles have already dealt with Bishop and his "anti-mutagen" in a bad timeline of the future. Whatever happened, Michelangelo came out of that adventure with the certainty that the blue stuff was a anti-mutagen. Which in itself is not suspicious, because even with his constant sleepovers in Donnie's lab, Michelangelo is still not that advanced a science dude. If he was young enough, Bishop could pour Sprite into a test tube, call it a anti-mutagen, and Michelangelo would buy it.

What a good thing they had Donnie for situations like that, I thought. And then I thought again. A little more anxious.

Did they?

Obviously, if Donnie had participated in the "adventure" with Bishop, he would not have allowed the turtles to call the strange liquid a retromutagen without analyzing it at least ten different ways. Even if Bishop hadn't given him a free sample, Donnie would have found a way to extract as much information as possible. Michelangelo was his lab partner. There was no way he would have missed something that important.

So...I guess at that point in the future, Donny wasn't there. Which leaves me with two possibilities. Either he was dead, or...he was taken out of the game for some reason.

The death option looks pretty straightforward. Donnie wasn't there to take control of the situation, so Bishop could probably afford a lot of free lying.

But I tend to think more about the second option.

Because Michelangelo, after getting into the past, intends to keep Donnie away from Bishop. This cannot be dictated by logic. Donnie, of all turtles, would be best able to consider if Bishop tries to pull something sneaky. Donnie has his technique, his knowledge, and his ability to hack any computer with just a dessert fork and rage. And yet Michelangelo takes Donnie with him into the tunnels. Because I'm sure he's guided not by logic but by fear.

Which leads me to the second option.

Donnie was not there at the time of the "adventure". Maybe physically he was alive, but he wasn't there at that moment of the future. Because Bishop did something to him.

That's why Donnie couldn't discover the lie about the anti-mutagen. And that's why Michelangelo wants to keep his younger version away from Bishop.

Now. This is where my knowledge of the 2003 series comes into the chat. More specifically, about one of my favorite stories from there - season 4 episodes 24 and 25 - "Good Genes."

( These are the episodes in which Donnie mutates, turning into a monster because he was previously stung by one of Bishop's mutants. Donnie's brothers spend a very "fun" amount of time trying to figure out how to cure him, but none of them are smart enough. So they are forced to make a deal with Bishop to reverse Donnie's mutation. Bishop was nice enough to actually do it and at the end of the story Donnie is fine again)

What if. Listen. WHAT IF something like this happened in a bad timeline.

Maybe Donnie was infected by Krang. Maybe he mutated for some other reason. Something happened to him. Something that caused the rest of the turtles to go to Bishop for help, because Donnie was usually the one who solved problems like this and Donnie wasn't there at the time.

This is where I pull out the "squeeze apple juice out of oranges" pokemon, because I'm starting to use information that isn't in the fanfic. We have the art, and the post.

And Donnie is not having a good time there. There's also the idea that the anti-mutagen in Mystic Hands doesn't work as neatly and conveniently as it did in 2003 and 2012. It doesn't turn a hypothetical mutant turtle back into a regular turtle.

The art quite clearly complements this thought.

At first I thought - hey, anti-mutagen works differently. I guess it's because it's supposed to reverse a secondary mutation or Crang infection?

Then I thought again. You know, more thoroughly. Bishop was lying.

There was no anti-mutagen, at least not in the sense that the turtles needed it. They only THOUGHT the thing existed because Bishop convinced them it did.

So. What are the chances that Donnie was infected with something the turtles couldn't handle on their own? So they had to enlist the help of Bishop. But unlike the man in 2003 this Bishop didn't do his part honestly and used some version of the toxic herbicide on Donnie?

What are the chances that at first the herbicide actually worked as a cure for Krang, because in this universe Krangs are apparently very evil vegetables? How long did it take for this substance to start killing Donnie himself? Because there's no way I'm going to believe that this caustic stuff is harmless to living creatures of any kind. Was the herbicide slow enough for the turtles to think the "anti-mutagen" was working and happily celebrate Donnie's healing? Maybe it took hours, maybe days, but my guess is that at some point the herbicide destroyed Donatello, giving enough time before that, however, for Michelangelo to remember that "blue stuff = cure for krangification."

That's why Michelangelo was so furious when he found out the blue stuff wasn't a retromutagen. He realized that Bishop had lied to him by calling this toxic crap a healing possibility. He realized that Donnie, his Donnie from the future, was not healed. He realized that Bishop probably didn't even try to heal him, taking advantage of the incompetence of the turtles.

Either that or Bishop in the future just stole Donnie and experimented on him for fun and science or something. And I just wasted a lot of your and my time for nothing~

Everything I've written here could be complete nonsense haha. And I'm not even sure I used half the terms correctly, because translating things from English into my native language and then translating back is tedious. But I hope that at least this post will be fun to reread when the fanfic plot moves on and mysteries are solved lmao

I'm sure this is no surprise.

My followers wouldn't expect me to not talk about all this new Fairy lore and the little royals, would you?

All-in-all we actually didn't learn very much lore-wise. We learned that changelings are a thing. And that Harlequin has outlawed this type of "prank" to keep peace with humanity.

Now I'm not really a theorist. I analyze what's explicitly in front of us.

However...I'd be lying if I said I don't LOVE the theories going around right now and TOTALLY subscribe to them. Nasiens being a Fairy, Mertyl being a human, all because of changeling shinanigans. LOVE IT.

And speaking of our Fairy prince. I actually really like Mertyl. He's rough no doubt, but I'm glad someone is taking the threat of humanity seriously. That being said, I don't super appreciate him commandeering other people's trauma for his argument like that.

Controversial opinion here, but Tioreh is super annoying XD But it's not a bother really, she's just her mother's daughter that's all. And I'm not really a huge fan of Diane. Still it's fine.

Now I know I just said I'm not one to theorize,

Is anyone else getting Helbram vibes off this kid? Maybe it's just the expression, I don't know, but it'd be cool if got to be reincarnated.

I'd still like to know why Tioreh and this brother have their wings so early. Every one of these children is 16 or less, they should VERY much be immature why both Fairy AND Giant standards.

That littlest brother over there is the only one following the rules...

And is also very cutely just the spitting image of his dad :p just like how one of his oldest sisters looks just like Diane.

And the youngest daughter seems to reflect the Giant blood just as flawlessly as the younger brother does his Fairy half. So that's neat. There's a really good mix of how genetics can present among this litter of theirs.

And this bit's not really analytical at all but I just wanna say

My god, he is just so pretty!!

I think it's fun to see all the siblings laughing here, except Mertyl of course cuz he's not pleased with any of this, and...

That youngest brother. He's not laughing either. In fact we don't see him make much if and expression at all in the whole chapter... Wonder what his little deal is. Maybe he's just a neutral personality, -not common with Fairies nor much like his mother- or maybe he's on his brother's side of the issue?

Another aside I want to add; the older daughter the pig tails, and the brother with wings are almost exactly what I imagined for the two fan kids I made up for Harlequin and Diane. So I hope they have good names.

I can't wait to find out everyone else's name, and learn more about this changeling business. Where is the story going with all this I wonder? Was it just the introduction of a plot device to give us these theories about Nasiens and Mertyl? Or is this actually going to be a conflict?

Either way, I'm always glad to see more of the Fairies. Of course.

🎆HOT TAKE: Jevil was never a sane or good person. His true nature was merely exposed by the "strange someone."

(A theory by an actual insane person.)

Although this is the first time I am addressing Jevil on this blog, I feel it is worth analyzing his character due to his parallel yet vastly different experiences to Spamton's. He is very interesting, and I like him for different reasons, but I can't deny that his actions make him less sympathetic as a person.

In-game, Seam, who was once friends with Jevil, describes him as having "gone mad" after talking to a "strange someone." Fans have taken this as a reliable narrative since it's coming from a presumably old but wise figure who was once close to Jevil. However, allow me to introduce these two concepts:

The Unreliable Narrator Perhaps within Toby's intentions, Seam is portrayed as an old yet wise figure, almost like a wizard. Just because a character appears to fulfill an archetype does not mean that the character is actually that archetype.

Cognitive Bias It is a well-known fact that people are willing to see the best in others who we consider to be friends, family, or lovers. Seam thinking Jevil had "gone mad" was likely due to Jevil never expressing his worst antisocial traits openly before talking to a "strange someone."

Seam also describes Jevil as always being into games, which surprises no one given his jester themes and design. Pranksters can be mean-spirited, and in the case of his implied interactions with Spamton, this is very evident. Spamton describes him as only being into "games," and how no matter what he did (even cheating), he could not beat him. This reference is never in-game, but we can still apply it to our understanding of Jevil's character since it was part of a canon Q&A. His implied coulrophobia and disdain for clowns can either be seen as a meta-commentary and joke about the Deltarune fandom's love for secret bosses or an excellent hint of how mean-spirited and unhinged Jevil really is. Someone doesn't develop a phobia from just one bad game unless that interaction was very uncomfortable to the point where it made Spamton feel threatened (possibly for his life). (Also, I am aware some people say they are exes. Given the lack of substantial evidence of this in-game or in the Q&A, I think it's safer to say that the "ketchup kids" part merely references a meme and shouldn't be considered anything substantial for analysis.)

Jevil was already showing signs of someone with antisocial traits, particularly among individuals with Cluster B personality disorders. He also falls under the category of Personality Type B (unrelated to Cluster B personality disorders) because of his lack of urgency. We can summarize him with these hallmark antisocial traits:

Lacking remorse for actions.

General dearth of empathy.

Grandiose Self-Worth (I CAN DO ANYTHING)

Need for stimulation and prone to boredom (which is why his solitary confinement was awful for him.)

Lying and manipulative (tricks the fun gang into breaking him out of jail only to try and kill them afterward. He doesn't even want Kris or Susie's souls. He just wants to have "fun.")

Lack of any long-term goals (he merely exists for games.)

Lack of value for other's lives (he finds the idea of murdering teenagers as an exciting game.)

Blasé attitude about life. Essentially, he is doing whatever the hell he wants without fear of consequences.

Notice the recurring theme of "games." In this case, a "game" to Jevil means whatever he wants it to mean. A game for him might mean torture for another person. His bullet patterns also exemplify this. They are aggressive, cluttered, and have (fittingly) chaotic patterns. Spamton's, by comparison, are structured and not as dense, showing his restrained need to kill the party to achieve his goals (particularly with Kris.) Also, notably, Jevil never considers the party "friends" by the end of the battle, regardless if you choose the ACT or FIGHT options of beating him. If you pick the ACT option, he goes dormant as a tail, but in the FIGHT version, he stays active as the Devilsknife and shows enthusiasm about being used as a weapon (presumably) to harm others.

And here's the kicker of all this: these traits are seldom learned but are inherent to some individuals, particularly those who fall closer to psychopathy than sociopathy.

Psychopaths have strong genetic predispositions, meaning they are born that way. While there are many psychopaths who never go on to become mass murderers, it takes a significant amount of social pressure and understanding for them to realize their actions will get them into trouble.

Prior to speaking to that "strange someone," Jevil was likely held back by his perceived notions of governance and law in the Card Kingdom. As the court jester, he probably believed he could express his desire to mess with others because of his assigned role. Being the "fool" of the court, he must have made the Card Kings laugh at his expense, and for most of his existence, he was probably okay with this since jesters, in our reality, were known to make some pretty nasty jokes about royals only for it to all be laughed off. Playing games with Seam was just an added bonus, and Seam likely saw good in him that no one else did. However, Jevil learned that he could do whatever the hell he wanted with (perceived) zero consequences, and he ran with it.

Any goodwill he had with Seam or the Card Kings was dropped the instant he knew he could do anything he desired. This is not behavior from someone who is even remotely sane. The "strange someone" told him what he wanted to hear. Now, the jokes were no longer just jokes. Seam mentions Jevil saying things that don't make sense, but there is a shadow of doubt that this is the only reason he was locked away. Considering his interactions with the main party, he may have attempted to kill the Card Kings, hence why he was imprisoned by Seam, the only person, as Court Magician, who could match his strength.

This ties back to my initial arguments about Seam's unreliable narrative and cognitive bias. Seam saw Jevil as sane and playful, whereas the "strange someone" knew Jevil wanted to unleash his inner thirst for more dangerous games. These needs were always there, he just needed someone to tell him he could do them.

This is a bit of an aside, but I recommend anyone who likes Jevil to read Edgar Allan Poe's short story, Hop-Frog. It's about a diminutive jester whose attitude closely mirrors Jevil's, only without a Seam to hold that jester back. Honestly, Hop-Frog was the first thing that popped into my head after beating Jevil. It's definitely worth a read (or listen if you can't read it.)

Like with my Spamton sanity theory, I hope my Jevil analysis and insight as someone with life-long mental health problems can help others see this character in a way that may be enlightening or interesting.

Giving the Pretty Little Liars characters a Big Three... Pt. 1

Hi all, this is my first post on Tumblr and I wanted to do something silly. I'm an astrology enthusiast but by no means a professional. Yes, some of my opinions or observations may be wrong or some people might not like them at all, but that won't stop me from making the fun posts I want to make.

Pretty Little Liars has always been my go-to comfort show when I want to watch a drama. I'm always happy to dive back into the PLL universe any time of the year, and I usually watch it during the fall/winter season when it's cold and I can bundle up and binge-watch many episodes at a time.

I will be including the less popular characters in part two as well, not just the main characters because I've rewatched the show over five times now and I've come to have an opinion on everyone. I'll also include some little tidbits in some character sections that don't pertain to astrology, so if you're here just for the big three, kindly disregard them!

And now, without further ado, the first little Liar we will be analyzing is...

Aria Montgomery

“When you love someone, it's worth fighting for. No matter what the odds are.”

In my opinion, Aria is the quietest personality of the Liars and understandably also the most controversial of the bunch because of Ezra being a thing (oh brother…), and I have observed that many fans of the show generally don't like her for a multitude of reasons. That aside, I think every character on the show had their personal charm even if they were all problematic. The only time I really liked Aria was when she was with anyone but Ezra. And after the time jump, her character was less annoying (until she got with Ezra) and I thought it was neat that she had worked in publishing. I also liked her moments with Spencer (team Sparia!) and I always thought she was much better when she was with her friends.

I remember when I thought Aria was A at some point because she would do the "SHH" in the intro and it had sent me and my mom into a frenzy trying to come up with a believable theory that she was betraying the girls the whole time! Aria is my least favorite, but I still appreciate her because I can see a lot of myself in her, she and I share the same hobbies and some personality traits as well. I think Aria might either be a Venus or Neptune dominant because of the artistic and dreamy persona she has. Her appearance also reminds me of the moon.

Cancer Sun

Much like a Cancer, Aria cares a whole lot about her family and I think she's particularly close with her mother. Throughout the show, she displays lots of Cancerian traits and acts very maternal around her loved ones especially with Ezra (ugh), for example: bringing them food, making sure they're taken care of emotionally, giving them a safe space to talk about their feelings (I noticed she's usually the one that the rest of the Liars go to when they need to have an emotional conversation). She's also very bright and has many creative hobbies that act like a protective blanket for her when she's feeling emotional, e.g. reading, writing, drawing, and photography. I also noted that she's very protective of her friends and family and she acts like an angry mama bear when her loved ones are threatened.

Libra Moon

From what I've read, Libra moons thrive in partnerships, whether romantic or platonic, and they always try to keep everything balanced/harmonious. And for Aria, that sometimes means keeping secrets or telling little white lies (or even big ones) to keep the peace between her and her loved ones. There've been multiple times when Aria has lied for her friends and for herself to keep everything balanced between the group. She's also very intelligent and open-minded, made evident by her consistent interest in learning.

Libra moons also have trouble making decisions or making up their mind about things, and they often need a little nudge or push from their loved ones to make a decision and I think that matches up with attributes of Aria's personality as well. She's also very warm, friendly, and sociable and really just wants the best for her loved ones. And if I remember correctly Aria has had a looooot of relationships/flings throughout the show and I read somewhere that Libra moons are almost always in a partnership. And sometimes (this isn't every Libra moon, don't come for me) might start a new romance in the middle of their current one!

Okay, moving on to her Ascendant, I will go with...

Gemini Rising

I put Gemini rising for Aria because I read somewhere that mercurial risings or mercury contacting the ascendant can make someone look very youthful and bright. Also because she is a very mercurial coded person imo. She is very intellectual and has very quick wits about her. She's also very curious and excitable when speaking to others, and is actually very talkative when you get her going. Sometimes Gemini risings also get overwhelmed with the feeling of wanting or needing to do everything at once, and often have two personalities much like I observed with Aria. They also tend to like traveling and are usually very active and thrive on change, fast pace, and variety.

Okay, we're done with Aria, I hope the placements I gave her also make sense for you guys too - now the next little Liar we're moving on to is... *drumroll*

Spencer Hastings “Why enjoy today when you could be worrying about tomorrow?”

Spencer is one of my favorite characters on the show because every time I watch the show she constantly inspires me to be brave and more confident in my opinions. I also appreciate the actress, Troian Bellisario because she's so underrated, I think she and Ashley Benson (Hanna) carried the show with their comedic timing and great acting and should be more recognized. Spencer's character also really satisfies the wannabe detective in me and I looove that she's like a mini Sherlock Holmes. I like that she wasn't just a preppy rich girl and was actually very smart and investigative; she would've made a great detective if she went into the line of policework like Toby did. She's also very headstrong and sometimes a bit hardheaded.

Spencer is such a caffeine addict and I love it lmao but I don't see how some people drink just straight black coffee, I hate how bitter it is. I love Spoby (Spencer and Toby) with all my heart but I feel like she would've been a better match with Caleb or Alex (if they kept him on the show). She was also very cute with Wren (rip...) even though he was a little older than her. Toby is a great guy but I just never saw the chemistry with those two like I did with her other romances. Spencer being Mars and Mercury dominant makes a ton of sense to me. I think her having a fire grand trine in her fictional birth chart would explain how restless she is. From what I've read the keywords for fire grand trines are vital, bursting with energy, restless, enthusiastic, and prideful.

Aries Sun

Spencer being an Aries sun makes a lot of sense to me partially because of how hard she works to be the very best and is always charging headfirst into everything that she does whether it be schoolwork, playing detective, or protecting her friends. She's also very impulsive from what I've noticed and it often gets her into trouble or sometimes accidents. Aries placements are prone to accidents or injuries due to their impulsiveness. She never really thinks much before she does something and that's gotten her into some very embarrassing situations on the show (but we love her for it). She's very competitive and witty and also loves debating and is usually the one starting confrontations with people alongside Hanna. I also think it's cute that she is very energetic and an adrenaline junkie, I think she loves the thrill of dangerous situations, and that screams Aries to me. Overall a very chaotic and smart cookie, it's very easy to see why Toby fell in love with her.

For her moon sign, it was a tough decision to make but I'm going to have to go with...

Scorpio Moon

Scorpio Moons are so alluring, mysterious, and unbelievably smart. Spencer can be very intense. On multiple occasions, she's gotten called out for being a control freak by the other Liars in the group. As a fixed moon sign she can be very stubborn and assertive (I almost gave her Taurus for this one). She has an insatiable need to know everything at all times and often presses for more information any chance she can get. She also displayed exceptional intuition and was almost a little psychic at times which is why she was so good at being the detective of the group and also figured Mona out. She's a suspicious girlie and finds it hard to trust anyone that she doesn't already know. As a Scorpio moon and just a water moon in general, Spencer often experiences intense emotions and is prone to having breakdowns or self-destructing when things get hard. To people outside of her close circle of friends and family, she can seem very intimidating and hard to approach and even sometimes a bit snappy.

Sagittarius Rising

I was going to give Spencer a Capricorn or Virgo Rising, but I decided that her being perceived as a Sagittarius would make more sense. She has a love for new adventures and exploration (prob why she snoops into places where she doesn't belong smh), and is quite curious. She also has a love for languages and I think it was pretty cute that she offered to tutor Toby in French, it reminded me of someone saying that Sagittarius loves learning different languages and teaching as well. Spencer is also very honest and direct in her communication though she has been known to be very humorous and sarcastic when it's called for. She speaks her mind freely and doesn't care what other people think about her opinions and she loves taking risks like they're a piece of candy or something. Also isn't afraid to call someone out on their bullshit or correct them if she feels the need to do so. She is skilled in verbal combat and isn't afraid to whip out some badass comebacks!

With Spencer out of the way, we have three more main characters to go, so let's get into...

Emily Fields

“Ruin one of us, ruin all of us.”

Emily is such a sweetheart omg. I loved how soft she was compared to the other girls even though she saw it as a weakness. I see a lot of myself in her character and she helped me become a little more confident in who I was. She was always in my top three for favorite characters for this show because I could see myself being really close friends with her. She didn't deserve all the trauma she got from Alison constantly toying around with her but I do think it made her somewhat stronger in the end. I am however still a little salty that despite all that, she and Alison still ended up being together but it looks like they might've been in a rocky situation if we go off with what The Perfectionists (what even was that show anyway) told us about the original couples of PLL.

I was so sad when Wayne died. RIP. He was such a great father figure for her and I liked that he was accepting of her. Her mom on the other hand was a mess for a while but I think she became better as the seasons went on too.

Emily and Maya were the sweetest couple and I was so sad when we got the news that Maya died. I feel like they were truly soulmates and even though Emily found other girls, I don't think she ever loved anyone as much as she loved Maya. Except maybe Alison.

I wish we got more of Emily dancing or doing more activities besides just swimming. It didn't make sense to me that she was the "jock" character but the only thing she really did was swim and that was about it. I could see Emmy doing soccer or tennis imo.

Pisces Sun

Emily is shy and soft-spoken and she almost reminds me of a mermaid which is really funny since she's known for being the swimmer of the group. She's very romantic, compassionate, friendly, artistic, and intensely empathetic which is why her being a Pisces sun fits the bill perfectly. A kind and gentle soul, I think her soft disposition is very valuable to the Liars and she is often there to provide emotional or moral support when the girls need it. She's also the most likely of them to cry if she saw a cute animal or something that reminded her of her childhood. I know that's sort of specific but still it's true. She also loves to dance and is pretty good at it imo (even though no one knew until that fateful episode with Hanna's pageant training...).

Taurus Moon

Emily's emotions are honestly very stable and fixed; and when she is in partnerships she is able to stick to them (usually). She loves connections and is able to charm anyone she sets her eyes on. Em is very trustworthy and loyal to her loved ones and honestly has very good taste when it comes to style and decoration. She is very persistent and determined with anything she takes on and doesn't appear to have a lot of patience for flaky, or people who create a lot of drama in her life. She is almost always very patient with her friends, family, as well as herself and I think that's a very admirable quality to have. I think the Liars needed her because she can be very dependable and loyal. Taurus moons can also be more responsive than active and that's sometimes why they can come off as passive or immovable.

Cancer Rising

I gave her a Cancer rising because Emily's aura is so soft and angelic and she gives the best hugs. If PLL was a supernatural drama, I think Emily would definitely have healing powers or be a literal angel with how sweet she is. Everyone always views Emily as the weakest link or the least likely to do any harm to anyone and I think that's because she has such a soft disposition to the point where people think she's a pushover. As a Cancer rising she sometimes takes things personal and does have a bit of a mean streak but I think her Taurus moon helps keep her grounded most of the time when it comes to her emotions. I see Emily as very supportive and tenacious, the girl's been through a lot and she still shines as brightly as she did in the first few episodes of PLL. Also her skin sometimes appears to be moon-kissed and she looks so good in silvers and blues so that's another reason why I gave her a Cancer ascendant.

Hanna Marin

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool my best friend, you're dead freakin' meat."

Hanna Banana is also another character that is very near and dear to my heart. I appreciated her character so much and I'm glad she wasn't just a "dumb blonde" like some characters thought she was. She was actually very smart and if Spencer wasn't the brainiac of the group I think Hanna would've at least been runner-up. I have so much in common with Hanna's character and I appreciate her so much - she's definitely one of the most memorable characters on the show and I also think she had some of the best lines. From saying, "Please, Jenna can't hear us, she's blind," to "Read her boobs, the girl loves Christmas." She's always cracked me up and I think she's so entertaining to watch. I also loved her character development throughout the seasons but got a little disappointed with the Caleb x Hanna x Spencer triangle that happened in the later season and it kind of annoyed me.

Hanna and Caleb are my favorite couple in the series although I really liked Spencer and Caleb too. I was torn apart with that whole love triangle storyline and it broke me. I like that Hanna decided to become a fashion designer. I guess her love for shoes, pretty dresses and fashion really paid off lmao. A part of me kind of wonders what kind of couple Hanna and Lucas would've been although I really loved their friendship, too.

Leo Sun

Hanna is definitely a fire sign through and through, and I almost gave her Sagittarius because her actress, Ashley Benson is one, but I think Hanna's personality and overall character fits a Leo more than anything. She definitely has a very bright and sunny disposition and radiates a confident aura to those she is around. Hanna loves shopping and she loves sparklies; good shoes, pretty dresses, eye-catching jewelry that reflects the bold, charismatic and fierce personality she has. It's no reason why she was known as the popular queen bee of the school after Alison's disappearance. Leo suns love to be admired and they bask in the compliments when they look and feel good. On the negative side they can be very self-absorbed or narcissistic and Hanna's definitely had her moments. While she is usually confident and well put together, Hanna is a soft and sensitive person deep down and can have some insecurity issues. I also believe that past Hanna (when Alison was still around) embodied a undeveloped Leo sun and after Alison she started gradually shifting into a more developed Leo sun and I think that's made more evident when Caleb rolled around.

Cancer Moon

This is so generalized and cliche but since Hanna has a beautiful, unbreakable bond with her mother and I wholeheartedly believe Hanna would do anything for her mother, just as Ashley (her mom) has shown that she'd do anything for her. Hanna cares a lot about her loved ones and seems to turn into this bright ball of sunshine whenever she is around them. I think she's an amazing friend to have and anyone that knows her is very lucky to have her. As a lunar Cancer she can be a little moody and sometimes snaps at people when she feels overwhelmed, but on the other side she can be very empathetic and has a reliable intuition or "gut feeling" which has helped her on multiple occasions. In relationships and friendships she can lean towards being maternal and sometimes unintentionally smothers the people she's closest to. I think Hanna is generally very sweet and her helping Caleb come into his own was a very beautiful story and really spoke to her character. She also has a strong lifeline to her past, like all Cancer placements, and her past often haunted her - but I think talking about it with Dr. Sullivan really helped her get over a lot of things that happened with Alison.

Aries Ascendant

Hanna has always given me Aries vibes. She sometimes acts before she thoroughly thinks things through and that's definitely gotten her into a lot of trouble. Like any other fire placement, her temper can go from zero to one hundred pretty quickly and it can be scary when she's mad. It's often hard for Hanna to sit still or contain her emotions; it's usually written all over her face. She's always moving around and if others get left in the dust, that's their problem. Part of the reason why she worked so well with Caleb was because they balanced each other out. He was more calm and a little more rational and always had to talk her out of being rash or talk her out of doing something completely stupid due to her emotions being high. I think she's also pretty clumsy and her bumping into people (and sometimes impulsively kissing them lmao) or things a lot is an Aries or Mars conjunct ascendant type motif for me. I think her and Spencer sometimes butt heads because of the sun - rising connection and them being a little too similar in that way.

And now for the OG queen bee herself. We'll be analyzing...

Alison DiLaurentis

"It's immortality, my darlings."

Alison, Alison, Alison. She was such a problematic character but I loved her in the flashbacks. I think when she came back her character and charm really started declining and it's kinda sad. But nonetheless, Alison was obviously the big talk of the show for a reason. She was the kind of person you loved to hate or hated that you loved her and I think Sasha Pieterse really slayed her role. Alison had everyone in the town wrapped around her little finger and it took the girls quite a while to get away from her grip. I think Alison would definitely destroy Regina George in a battle and probably some other popular mean girls too. I enjoyed watching PLL because I was so obsessed with finding out what happened to Alison, and when we finally found her and got to know what really happened that night I started sympathizing with her character. I think deep down, she was probably a very sweet person but over time became corrupted and tucked her soft side away where no one would ever find it because all of the trauma and terrible situations she went through. This is probably gonna be a longer analyzation, we'll see.

Alison and Emily were not my favorite couple at all but I appreciated how Emily was a very evident soft spot for her and it showed a bit of her emotional, human side. I think Mona and Alison would've made pretty good friends if they didn't get off to such a rocky start. They're honestly so much alike and I feel like if Alison wasn't such a bitch to Mona in the beginning she would've had no reason to run away from Rosewood in the beginning like girl.

I don't really think Alison had one decent romantic interest besides that one cop that everyone forgot about. And I guess Emily.

Scorpio Sun

Being a water sign, Scorpios can be very intense and have a magnetic aura around them as well. Everyone either wanted to be with Alison or be Alison herself. Despite Alison always being the center of attention and the apple of everyone's eye, no one really knew that much about her, not even her friends. Scorpios are known to be extremely private, or even secretive about what they truly think or feel. A developed Scorpio can be known to be creative, healing, transformational, loyal, determined, intimate, and overall very passionate in everything that they put their mind to. Alison spent most of her teenage years being an underdeveloped Scorpio; constantly manipulating and cruelly criticizing people, even her friends. She also had a very sharp tongue and wasn't afraid to bring out her claws.

She knew everyone's secrets and had no problem using those secrets against them and boy did she do a hell of a lot of blackmailing. Alison was very vindictive and quite destructive as well, and I believe she had what could only be called the opposite of a Midas touch; everything she touched always became cold and she would often suck the life out of the people closest to her so she could feel better about herself. She only became more developed as the seasons went on, and I'm sure in a world where Marlene King didn't write that horrible storyline between Ali and Emi we would've seen more of that character development from Alison.

Capricorn Moon

I've put a lot of thought into this and I think Alison may or may not be a Capricorn moon. With all the trauma and obstacles she had to endure, she always found a way to get right back up and try, try again. She strove to be successful in everything that she tried to do with her life and actually acquired a mass amount of wisdom from all of her experiences which I think would've made her a great counselor if they had went that route with her instead of just making her a teacher. Having the moon in detriment, where Cancer is one of the most sensitive and responsive, Capricorn is usually more controlled, disciplined, and strategic. Sometimes they can even be unemotional, and it often looks like Alison turned her humanity off like the vampires do in The Vampire Diaries. Dry humor and sarcasm are often the go-to deflection mechanism for Capricorn moons when they are dealing with uncomfortable feelings from themselves or other people.

Alison was a bit of a pessimist and often slipped into moods where she was very hard on herself and felt like she was stuck or had to be the person everyone remembered her to be. But I think Emily (and her friends, but especially her) was the light at the end of the tunnel for Alison with how nurturing and patient she was. Emily might've gotten mad at Alison and there were times where she couldn't deal with her anymore but I don't think Emily ever gave up on Alison and that probably meant a lot to her as a Cap moon and I think their relationship was a good example of a Capricorn-Cancer connection. Also put Capricorn moon because of Alison's mother being very strict and not very nurturing at all - often a very karmic connection.

Aquarius Rising

Aquarius risings are known for being unique, intellectual, individualistic and having a "freaky" or weird personal quality about them that just makes them stand out. Ali definitely had a thing for books and seemed to be very knowledgeable even though it appeared she never cared that much for school. Aquarius placements are unapologetic for the way that they are and are confident in themselves. Cliché, but where the crowd goes left, Aquarius risings go right - they walk to the beat of their own drum and some of them might even have a god complex. As a fixed air sign ruled by Saturn, they can be aloof like Aquarius moons and self-righteous like some Aquarius suns. Alison had a very hard time admitting when she was wrong and having a predominantly fixed chart she was also very stubborn and controlling as well. On a lighter note, Alison did always constantly show up her friends and Aquarius risings are known for being committed to community and being humanitarians - but only to the people that they choose. Even while she had been on the run from Mona, she came back to Rosewood to see her friends and even save them on multiple occasions. It seemed to everyone that Alison didn't have a heart, but I think her friends eventually brought out the warm and caring person she actually was deep down.

This is such a fucking weird question but I really need your help with it 😭 What colours do you associate the most with Robby and Tory? I keep coming with different combinations and I can't decide! I really love your analysis, so I wanted to hear your opinion 🥹

Hi! Thanks for your question! I assumed that you're talking about color theory for personalities, which I'm not too familiar with, so I looked into it. If you meant something else... Well, this was still fun to do, and I hope this still answers your question. 🙂

I get what you mean about coming up with different combinations. There are different color theory charts out there lol, and I was also unsure at first.

This is the first one I found, and I immediately thought of Robby as blue and Tory as orange. Of course, neither is a 100% fit.

Robby as Blue Compassionate and caring - The blue personalities are brilliant at identifying and gauging the feelings of those around them. They thrive when in relationships and they are pretty social and always show compassion towards others. Blue personalities are always trying to ensure that their group is successful and comfortable. If they find someone struggling in their group, they do not hesitate to offer a helping hand.  A blue person is faithful and loyal. You can count on them to stand by you through thick and thin. They have a big heart and are not afraid to show generosity because they want others to follow their lead as well. They are trustworthy and have an enthusiastic nature. Blue personality types tend to put others first and work hard to ensure that they take care of those around them.  They avoid conflict at any cost. If any conflict arises, their basic instinct is to defuse the situation and find a peaceful solution to the problem. They have a sensitive soul and can easily get upset over small things.  People-oriented - Blue personalities love getting praise and appreciation from others. The validation of other people gives them confidence and happiness as it lets them know that they are being heard. They look for opportunities to interact with others as it helps recharge their energy and provides the inspiration they need. Careers that require a high level of collaboration and coordination are best suited for them.  Traditional and rule followers - Blues are not a big fan of change and prefer to do things their way. They are traditionalists and like to stick to their old and tried ways even though they are not the best and most efficient way of doing things. Their inflexibility can often lead to conflict with others. They are unlikely to suggest a new way of doing things or volunteer a fresh idea. They respect things that have endured the test of time and find them reliable. (This part makes me think of Miyagi-Do and how Robby seems to uphold the Miyagi-Do teachings the most. Although Robby also said to fight whichever way works, that's still a Miyagi-Do teaching that Robby adopted.)

Tory as Orange Orange personalities are known for their adventurous nature. Action takers - Orange personalities have too much energy and they are always looking for action so they get to use their boundless energy.  They don’t bother over-analyzing situations and worry too much about optimal direction.  Instead of relying on evidence or facts, they prefer to base their decisions on gut feeling. They are most inclined to go for a riskier path because they find safe options boring. They are ready to take risks because they believe that they can reap bigger and better rewards.  Orange people like to be in control of situations and don’t appreciate being bound by rules and commitments. Spontaneous - Orange people don’t like structure as they find it confining. They get a lot of excitement and energy by living in the moment. Their true joy lies in the present and they don’t spend much time contemplating the past.  Oranges believe that planning dampens the thrill of things as it takes out the spontaneity they crave. Their desire for a thrill can often lead to risky behavior as well.  Orange personalities want freedom in life. They can easily get bored and often seek thrill by competing in dangerous activities. These individuals find it hard to work in one place for a long time and change jobs a lot. Whenever their current job starts being less challenging, they switch in hopes of finding a more challenging workplace.  Social butterflies - Orange personalities love meeting people and being part of a group. They are extroverts and find it easy to mingle with others, especially those who have the same view of the world as them. They have charming personalities that attract others. Their charismatic optimism is contagious and gets them attention without even trying. Their carefree nature makes them popular among people.  Orange personalities do have trouble establishing deep relationships. They don’t have the stamina to commit to a relationship and give it time. (A lot this fits for Tory, outside her rivalry with Sam and Cobra Kai brainwashing.)

Then, I came across this chart below. I also read that people are a combination of all colors but 1 or 2 are dominant in each person, all of which makes sense. I immediately drew a line down the chart for Robby and Tory: Robby is blue and green, while Tory is red and yellow (apparently there's no yellow font option). This one confused me though. It was as common as the chart above, but the blue and green descriptions are switched compared to the chart above.

I kept searching to make sense of it. I came across color theory based on primary colors (Red, Yellow, and Blue) and secondary colors (Orange, Green, and Purple). And looking more, I found some things about warm colors and cool colors. So, like, in the pic below, I think the cool colors blue, green, and purple at the bottom define Robby well, and I think the warm colors red, yellow, and orange at the top define Tory generally well ("sensible" definitely doesn't apply when she's brainwashed though).

Robby Blue represents calmness, intelligence, and trustworthiness. Individuals who exhibit this color tend to be analytical, logical, and detail-oriented. Green represents stability, balance, and harmony. Individuals who exhibit this color tend to be empathetic, compassionate, and nurturing.  Purple is often associated with creativity, spirituality, and imagination. (The blue and green descriptions are switched in the pic and in the descriptions below the pic. I found more than one article that had it this way. Still... confused lol)

Tory Red represents passion, excitement, and high energy. Individuals who exhibit this color tend to be confident, outgoing, and competitive.  Yellow represents optimism, creativity, and enthusiasm. Individuals who exhibit this color tend to be imaginative, expressive, and spontaneous.  Orange represents fun, excitement, and adventure. Individuals who exhibit this color tend to be adventurous, spontaneous, and daring.

And all this made me think about the costume designer's interviews were he mentioned warm colors and color palettes and what he's thinking about when he's picking the wardrobe for the characters. He didn't talk about Tory or Robby much, but he does seem to choose more warm colors for Tory and more cool colors for Robby.

For neutral colors, Tory wears a lot of black.

Black is a classic color that is often associated with elegance, sophistication, and power. People who wear black are often seen as confident and stylish.

She also wears beige sometimes. Maybe it's more a light brown. Both colors seem to have similar descriptions:

Brown is a warm and earthy color that is often associated with stability, reliability, and comfort. People who are drawn to brown are often seen as dependable and trustworthy. They are also seen as practical and down-to-earth.  Beige is a warm, earthy color that is often associated with stability, reliability, and practicality. People who wear beige are often seen as down-to-earth and dependable. 

Tory wears gray occasionally, but it's always paired with red.

Robby wears a lot of gray, mostly paired with blues or greens and occasionally paired with reds. He especially wears grays in scenes were things aren't going good for him, like when Daniel kicked him out both times, when he was arrested, and the whole day of the apartment fight, his shirt inside was gray.

Some interesting notes about gray: Gray positive traits are intelligence, emotional control, wisdom, balance, elegance, objectivity, modesty. Gray negative traits are indecisiveness, isolation and detachment, indifference, and sadness. Neutrality - Gray is impartial and dispassionate, it doesn’t take sides, representing neutrality.  The color gray is subdued, quiet and reserved. Gray is usually an unresponsive color. It truly is unattached, neutral, impartial and also indecisive. Coming from a color mindsets perspective, gray is the color regarding settlement – being neither dark nor white-colored, it does not take changeover between those two colors. It can also be considered as representing balance (being the balance between white and black). Conformity - Gray conforms – it is conventional, dependable and practical.  It is a color of maturity and responsibility, associated with the gray hair of old age.  It will never be the center of attention or the dynamic leader – it is too safe and toned down. Gray is the color of conformism-not having any personality of its own. Humans too show this quality as they adapt to the situation they are in. Compromise - Gray is the transition between two non-colors, neither black nor white.  It takes the middle ground, neither one way nor the other. Control - It has a steadying effect on other colors around it.  Gray is controlled.  Being both motionless and emotionless, gray is solid and stable, creating a sense of calm and composure, relief from a chaotic world. Being both still and emotionless, gray is strong and steady, making a feeling of cool and self-restraint, and alleviates you from a riotous world. It doesn’t invigorate, empower, revive or energize. Gray looks moderate, exhausting, dull and discouraging, but at the same time it looks exquisite and formal, yet never captivating. As gray reaches dark, it becomes extraordinary and also mysterious. Ones who love gray are the ones who try to protect themselves from the world around them. Those peoples prefer a safe and balanced existence, don’t want to hurt their emotions, and control their emotions to avoid an emotional pain.

The first and last pics of Robby above are interesting. When he meets Amanda for the first time (first pic) she is wearing purple and he's wearing a gray button down outside and a red shirt inside. When he meets Carmen for the first time (second pic), she is wearing purple and he's wearing red/black button down outside and a gray shirt inside. It's quite a switch. In both scenes, he's putting on a front. In the first scene, he's confident and in control of the situation (that is the dominant one) as he's choosing this front and the red is inside not outside. In the second scene, he's not the one in control though he's trying to gain some semblance of control over the situation he is in. (At least that's my take on it. Can't be a coincidence that Amanda and Carmen both are wearing purple (also a color symbolizing royalty and these are women he needs to impress) when they meet him for the first time, while he's wearing gray and red but switched.)

In s1, Robby was wearing dark green in his first scene. In his 3rd scene, he's wearing red and black. It's the only time he's wearing red before s4. Then he's goes into more warm colors (maroon, yellow-ish) and neutral colors (black, white, and gray) and eventually starts wearing blues after he starts training with Daniel.

In s4, unlike the other Cobras, he barely wears reds and blacks on their own, other than the Cobra Kai uniforms, during the head shaving incident, and his red suit for prom. Sometimes he doesn't have any reds but just darker shades of blue and green with black, or his reds are always paired with blue or green and sometimes has some browns. The first and only time Robby is wearing a full pink shirt is when he goes to Kenny's house and agrees to mentor him. Robby barely has pinks in his wardrobe. In his s4 finale scene with Johnny, Robby's button down has brown in it and his shirt inside is a maroon.

Pink is a soft and feminine color that is often associated with love, compassion, and nurturing. People who are drawn to pink are often seen as caring and nurturing. They are also seen as sensitive and compassionate. Maroon is often associated with ambition, confidence, and strength. Maroon can also represent wisdom and maturity. Although pink is softer than maroon, the color combos in these scenes are somewhat similar: shades of blue and brown on the outside, pink or maroon on the inside.

The pink in the Kenny scenes and the maroon in the Johnny scene fit the nature of those scenes and the relationships. Robby's weakness is his compassion, especially towards Kenny. Robby will always be more wise and mature than Johnny.

In s5, Robby wears reds at Miyagi-Do and blues at Cobra Kai, which is opposite to the colors that represent those dojos. Definitely some color symbolism going on with these two distinct choices. In s2, for example he always wore blues and grays at Miyagi-Do.

Overall, I think I'll go with the costume designer's choices because they also match how I view Robby's and Tory's personalities: cool colors (blue, green, and purple) with a neutral gray for Robby and warm colors (red, orange, yellow, and brown) with a neutral beige and black for Tory.

yes we as homestuck fans love to be obsessed with individual characters and treat them all as their own real people we can analyze and talk about; but i think its also important to remember that fundamentally, homestuck was (often) just a tool hussie used to make jokes with fans, constantly, and every little oc was either an author insert or a stand-in for poking fun at the readers/fanbase in some way. some characters are more this than others but sometimes when reading the scenes the truth is it’s less of “x character is having deep meaningful feelings about x situation which is why they said it” and it’s more “x character is hussie telling off y character who is the reader about why their theories are shit and dumb”. and this happens constantly

Hey so I had a question and am wondering if you want to answer it because for a sns shipper you’re tolerable not to be mean. Yep I don’t ship sns I like nh together so if you wanna ignore this then that’s fine I don’t really care but what sns shippers always forget is that interpretation is the only thing that matters. I like nh so what? I think they were built well and make sense but that’s not going to make me not a shipper. You guys come up with all these theories that don’t make sense and I don’t like sns and that is my interpretation and that doesn’t make anyone wrong because you have no say in how I should think and feel. It seems like you anticipated the possibility of being ignored because we have opposing views on the matter which you’re already aware of, but I wouldn’t ignore you simply because you ‘ship’ something other than me. (Though I’d rather just call myself a fan in the context of SNS.) In fact, you’re always free to challenge anything you want, it’s fun for me and perhaps even informative for us both.

Ngl, that’s an extremely weak argument (if you can even call it that) 😬 but let’s talk about ‘interpretation’.

Interpretation by nature is subjective. 

It’s important for sure, it matters in the sense that your personal perspective helps you determine whether you like/dislike something because your preferences would have no foundation otherwise. 

It’s impossible for an interpretation to be ‘wrong’ in a general sense because it’s something that happens naturally when you engage with any creative expression. You observe something, your brain frames the thing, then you attach personal meaning behind it and of course it’s okay to experience anything however you do, because that’s a natural response and different for everyone. 

So, in regard to your criticism, I don’t think anyone meant how you think/feel about an experience is ‘wrong’ or makes your interpretation ‘wrong’. 

But, using this as a reason to ‘debunk’ us all, makes your logic a fallacy. In other words, I disagree with you. Interpretation is certainly not the only thing that matters here. 

Interpretation can change in different cultural contexts, it may require references from other work and sometimes it is so ambiguous to the point where it is even necessary for a reader to draw a conclusion themselves based on the context when it’s not literally ‘there’. A lot of subtext provides the opportunity to delve deeper to see whether your initial interpretation is supported by the narrative or not. 

The whole purpose of interpretation in a literary analysis (because that’s what’s important here) is to explain the interpretation and make sense out of the meaning to then determine whether it is valid in the context of a narrative. 

In the sense of literary interpretation, there are ways to prove whether an interpretation is correct or not. It is a misinterpretation when you misconstrue the meaning (or any other of the endless elements) behind a story. And thus, theories are made to question and challenge an interpretation/claim/argument etc- which is what SNS fans imo do really well generally. 

And that’s why ‘interpretation’ by itself isn’t the only thing that matters when analyzing because it doesn’t prove anything, and 'the thing' doesn't care about your damn feelings nor is it ever really relevant when analyzing. Claiming your framing does prove it all is such a disrespectful way of looking at the literary work. The nature and meaning behind Naruto and Sasuke’s bond requires (and deserves) further analysis and taking a deep dive towards Kishimoto’s intentions, especially after such a random ending and a horrible, misaligned sequel. There are well-supported arguments which rely on evidence based on a (,or THE one and only~) primary source. (The Manga.) Every ‘meta’ is a case-by-case matter of course and I don’t always agree with them either, but analyzing does require a lot of critical thinking and I have admiration for the people who do so/can. 

You can strengthen your argument by analyzing how your interpretation debunks SNS-theories and, in the context of the story, (the primary source) why NH is developed well and makes sense. Though I get the shortcut, it seems completely impossible to do and too much of a task, but feel free to try anyway :)!

I have been analyzing some chapters of the Spy x Family manga, because it seems to me that it has very interesting details to interpret. I clarified that these analyzes are made from my own point of view, so you are free to have a different opinion. I am based on the content of the manga, and much of what I say here are theories and reflections. And being a story that is in print, events can change and contradict each other. With that said, let's get started.

This is possibly one of the most beloved chapters by fans, for giving us the Forger family vacations.At the beginning of the chapter, we can see our dear Anya excited by the arrival on the tourist island.

Like the daughter, like the father!

The best thing about this is that we can appreciate the abilities of the Starlight agent Anya to observe, analyze and find the weak point of the Twilight agent, and apply a complex manipulation strategy. Apparently the telepath has learned very well from her own father. So the king of lies and manipulations has just been manipulated for his own 6 (4 year old) daughter.

Yor finally manages to reunite with her family, and enjoy her short vacation with her husband and daughter. Having fun and somewhat...dangerous moments

At the end of the chapter there are MANY to highlight

1 · Mutual purpose:

Something important in this arc is how Yoru's conflict is presented to us as she has to make an inevitable choice between her job and her fake family. Although the Forger family started as a cover to be an assassin. With the passing of time, Yoru has realized the happiness that being part of a family gives her. That is why now, having a Shopkeeper position with a higher level of demand and danger than she is used to makes her realize that sooner or later she will have to question what her true priority is. Leading Yor to question "what is his true purpose?"

Interestingly, when Yor has talked (subtly) about his work with Twilight. We notice how indirectly he is attracted by those words. It's as if Yor has the ability to express what Twilight can't admit in front of them for fear of revealing his identity and opening up emotionally. So it could be said that it is a scene where they share a special bond, despite the fact that they do not know it.

I don't know if you remember, but before, we have already seen a similar scene. In chapter 3, which in my opinion, makes a certain parallel with this chapter.

In both scenes Yor indirectly speaks of her own job perspective. And although she had to lie during the cruise so that Loid would not find out that she was in a battle between assassins. She can't hide his look of genuine satisfaction.

When we look at the initial Yoru, and do a retrospective of the arc in the cruise. We see the clear contrast between the motivations and the desires that being a murderer represents. Apparently, while Yuri was growing up and began to be economically independent from Yoru. She began to lose the sense of her work. But she doesn't seem to want to admit this. So she began to depend on her job to feel that she was good at something. Yor has always felt out of place with the world around her, and although she looks naive and somewhat clueless, she was aware of how unusual it can be, so the idea of ​​aspiring to a normal life would be impossible. This obvious insurance gap is the reason she became exhausted from her job and even lost.

But after this battle against the rival group of assassins, Yor began to understand that she became an assassin because she has a valued value to protect- The peaceful life!

It's interesting how Yor's perspective on her work evolves as the story progresses, and while Yor still has a lot to learn, it's clear that something has changed. We know that the reason behind Yor's assassination job was to ensure Yuri's future. She doesn't really care about the political background or ideals that Garden (or other organizations have), she just wants Yuri and innocent people to have a quiet life. Even if it means she never has one

When Yor started to wonder about "being a murderer is more important than having a fake family" is when Yor loses her own center at times, not knowing what is really important to her.

It's great, to see how in the end she understands that both aspects are important, they are part of her, and one motivates the other. Yor understood that she fights to defend something "that she believes in" and wants to protect, even if she needs to dirty her own hands, and even if she must risk losing the Forger Family. But that sacrifice will be worth it as long as she can ensure that there is a peaceful world for Yuri, Loid, Anya and Bond. (Although she does not know his secrets). It will annihilate those people who want to get rich at the cost of causing another war that will take away the happiness of the most precious thing.

The family is more important than being a murderer, but she will continue to be a murderer to protect this family.

Yor's satisfaction in finding "balance" and "meaning" in her work is felt in this scene. Killing or making money is not his purpose, nor his motivation, it is the joy that comes from seeing Anya and Loid being happy, and seeing Yuri grow much more as a professional every day. And she wants to make the most of this even if the day comes when she has to part with them.

On the other hand is Twilight....

It's funny how Twilight had this time the supporting role during a battle. Since generally this is Yoru's role in other arcs. Even so, there are very subtle but very relevant details in it:

In previous posts I talked about how Twilight's look was an indication of when her emotions are real.

They are those small, almost imperceptible spaces where he becomes sincere even if he doesn't realize it. Curiously, these moments occur frequently when he is with his family, in fact, many of these looks have been when Yor is together. Quite possibly, these events are due to the way in which both identify.

Yor and Twilight come from very opposite circumstances, developing different personalities. But, the way they come to find their own reflection in the other. And this is what allows that when one exposes an honest and authentic side, the other can understand it perfectly and share it.

Meanwhile, in mission 3, Yor talks about "seeing other people makes her think about how her work contributes to their lives", while Twilight absently watches a group of children. Which coincides perfectly with Twilight's purpose of "a world where children don't cry", the happiness of the most defenseless has been the first motivator for Twilight to continue in his purpose in the same way as Yor. For this spy and assassin, their only reward has been to see the indirect results of their work, accepting that no one can know the truth of what they do.

It's similar to this time Twilight looking at Yor, because he too wants this peaceful life to endure in time.

But being more personal:

The Strix mission has allowed the two of them to experience "this happiness". A simple, quiet life, but full of valuable moments, what is special is not what they "do" but the people you are with.

While Yor seems to accept her fake family as something real and special to her, becoming one of the reasons why she must continue fighting in order to give her family a better world. It shows that although both are lying, and using each other. The reasons why he does that is because of the genuine desire to give the other a better life.

And while Twilight tries to appear immune to these feelings, scenes like the one below prove otherwise.

Later, we see one of the scenes most adored by us fans and that is to see Yor fall asleep on the shoulder of her fake husband due to the exhaustion she carries from so many days of endless battle.

Your whole world is in your hands, Twilight!

I think it's important to point out how Twilight and Yor never downplay each other's work, despite having no idea of ​​their true professions. Yor believes that Loid is a psychiatrist, but he always notices how tired it is for Loid to get home from work and still fulfill household duties, and the stress he shows in his whole body.

But in this arc, we appreciate how Twilight feels that Yor's work is difficult, exhausting, (and that she clearly misses her), respects her time, believing that she is just a city hall official. And the smile of pride and appreciation when seeing, that despite being close to giving up due to fatigue, she dedicated her whole day to sharing with Anya. This smile is not an obligation, he is not playing the role of "the good husband" in front of anyone. There is no reason to think about Yor at that moment. But he does it because he wants to

It is clear that when both disconnect from their work and allow themselves to enjoy the moment. They both feel happy, comfortable and connected to each other. Both recognize and respect each other, although they are unaware of the true sacrifices they make on a daily basis.

My reflections…

I think the most remarkable thing in these chapters is how Endo makes the aspector more aware of all the ties that unite the Forgers, and the authenticity of their feelings and their constant process of learning and exploration. Convincing us that they are a true family when they are united. But, in each Forger's individual perspective, they remain trapped within their own bubble of lies. Feeling alone, misunderstood, carrying their own weight. Although lies are the reason they are together, it is also what separates them. Because no one realizes that everything they need, they already found

Although I have seen people think that Yoru has not evolved at all despite this arc. I disagree with this idea: Yuro remains insecure about her role as mother and wife. In addition to the way it unfolds with the outside world. And although her nature is to be shy, nervous and sweet. She has clearly grown. This arc dealt with Yoru's "motivation" and the relationship that exists between her work and her family. Conflict that came to a teaching. Therefore, Yor is more motivated to continue with her aspirations. I think that her fear as a mother and wife is a topic that will be taken up again in the future.

I am glad that Yor understands the risks of being a murderer, and although she feels that in the future she can stop belonging to the Forgers, that does not limit her from making the most of her stay in the family and above all that this should not limit her own aspirations.

I think that Yor, step by step, must understand that she must not give her actions to others. Clearly, Garden (in antithesis to WISE) taught Yor to act without questioning anything, to only obey, and this would bring him benefit (money to raise her brother, and create a supposedly better world). She must understand that she must fight for her own desire and motivation, and not depend solely on Yuri, the Forgers and especially Garden. Each aspect is important and part of her life, she must create her own criteria and set her own limits, and with it, begin to trust herself. But this will surely be something he learns over time as future arcs go by. (Especially with the appearance of Melinda)

Also....

Twilight and Yor are not enemies, regardless of what their organizations think. They pursue the same goal, and are willing to make the same sacrifices. But also, they both yearn deep down for the love that was taken from them (the love of a family), a love that accepts you and motivates you to improve.

And if at some point in the story, they become openly on opposite sides: It's not because they're bad guys, villains or enemies. It will be due to prejudices, misunderstandings and fear that cause this conflict that may or may not occur (depending on the circumstances), caused by the truth that they do not know.

But it is evident that sooner or later, they will have to realize that in reality they both want the same thing: peace… a quiet life, and to see the smile on Anya's face.

I liked to analyze this chapter, because after chapter 66 perhaps for many we feel that the Forger's relationship will go down the wrong path. But I feel that seeing these chapters, we see that this false family will have to face changes, new obstacles to get stronger.

And although the truth seems painful and difficult to cope with at first, it can also be the cause for the Forger Family to become real in the future.

Who take everything so fucking seriously, who think every character is straight, who criticize the manga to hell and back for all the wrong reasons. ⚠️ I saw one today that said that luffy using gear 5 on Lucci was stupid and that it made his fight with kaido look pointless and made kaido look weak because "obviously Lucci is weaker than kaido so why would Luffy have to use gear 5?" MF the boy isn't logical, he's not using gear 5 because he thinks he can't beat Lucci without it. He's using it because A) it's a new form he likes it, he wants to show off his new powers because Lucci is doing the SAME DAMN THING and B) he wants to show Lucci he's not messing around and that he recognizes how strong Lucci is. OMG OZZY OSBOURNE IS A TWISTED WONDERLAND FAN?!

(I also did a little lyric analyzing, scroll for that)

(intro is red and you can skip it if you know the context of Ozzy and Twst. Book 7 spoilers are marked as green. Lyrics are purple. (When i didn't paste an image of them)

Okay so very quick intro. For twst fans who don't know Ozzy Osbourne what rock are you living under? He's a very popular rock artist and the lead vocalist for a heavy metal band "Black Sabbath" (a very well known 1970s band.) He has the nickname "Prince of Darkness".

And for Ozzy fans who are still reading and don't know twst. Twst stands for Twisted Wonderland, a Disney anime game. It focuses on Yuu (mcs name) who gets whisked away to a highschool organized by dorms for magic. Each of the 7 dorms are based off a Disney villain, who are praised as "The Great 7". It's a fun game check it out!! Dire Crowley is the principal of the academy. Not much is known about him but he praises himself on his "benevolence" and "kindness". Though no offense Crowley fans he's a lazy jerk.

To understand this analysis you'll need to know what an overblot is. With a mixture of strong negative emotion and a large use of magic a mage gets infected with the overload, causing them to overblot. (Blot is like magics equivalent to a car's gas emission per say). The person gets a new stronger form though it's highly damaging and if stuck in that form for too long they turn into a phantom. Imagine a sentient vicious blob of black ooze .

((((((Also Levan is Malleus Draconias dad who went missing long ago before Mal hatched from his egg. Maleanor is Malleus's mother who died after an attack on her castle ))))))

Now with all that out of the way!! Lyric analysis!! All the correlations. This includes the Crowley is Levan theory! Plus the overblot theory that he caused them. (Though you can still enjoy a lot of the analysis if you aren't a believer of either of these theories)

This could correlate to when Levan left. I haven't read part 5 in awhile but if I remember correctly it doesn't exactly say what happened but he disappeared during a battle when he was a general. What was he thinking when he was in that fight?

For the Crowley Levan theory to work he would have been kidnapped by the Silver Owls. He would need to be in a weak state for that to be possible. The line did you talk to the dead could be a metaphorical for him "seeing the other side".

Or people say the magical mirror that assigns the boys their dorm is Maleanor. That could be considered talking to the dead.

His disappearance was tragic. It affected a lot of people

And you could definitely say being a General is "thrilling". Though defining thrilling as an adrenaline rush not exciting.

You fooled all the people with magic could refer to him covering up all the overblots. You don't even need to be a believer of the "Crowley caused the overblot theory" to know he had to have covered all this up somehow. Though I find it gives it more depth to take that into consideration.

FNAF Movie Spoilers ahead!

• Jirou is a casual enjoyer, got into the fandom because of the music lol so she loves The Living Tombstone and wants to see if they'll make it to the movie's soundtrack. Her fave song would be I got no time (not bc its my obsession at the moment or anything lol what).

She would put on an all black outfit with striped sleeves and leg warmers, do some loosely puppet inspired make up and call it a day.

• Tokoyami bc of course, come on. Look at him -a horror kid and a theater kid at the same time- he can't not like fnaf come on dude like.

His fave game would probs be Fnaf4 or maybe a fanmade like TJOC or Jr's.

He's consumed every single piece of fnaf media possible and goes crazy analyzing every single detail on this film. I feel like talking/ranting/gushing to him ab this movie would be so much fun (but you have to be somewhat well-versed in the lore lol).

Screams through 60% of the movie, whether it is from goddamn Balloon Boy or from excitement. Will rewatch it any time he has the chance to.

much to be said about the young women in war and peace who show an active desire to be in society (natasha, hélène, lise, and julie) and how the men of the novel and, by extension, tolstoy, value their worth. in all cases the fate of each woman is determined exactly by how entrenched she is in society. andrei loved lise until she "joined society" and then he abandons her and rips her away from what made her happy. julie abandons her only true friend, marya, and ends up in a marriage where everyone can tell her husband doesn't love her except for herself. we don't even need to talk about the fate tolstoy thought hélène deserved. all of natasha's hardships happen as a result of her being enticed by that life, but she's spared once she retreats back into the safety of family and tradition

it's not some sort of groundbreaking statement to point out tolstoy's opinion of russian high society nor his opinion of women, really, but it's just interesting to look this idea of how the women are treated narratively in that regard. the madonna/whore complex is so rampant in this book, it's insane.

I've been ruminating on fandom lately. Criticizing fandom at all will get you barraged by very defensive fans who will accuse you of hating fun, not understanding creative expression, and being an art snob, and I am about to go a LOT harder than most of the posts I've been exposed to, so in an attempt to preemptively curb that indignance: I like fandom. I have written fanfics, and theory posts, and meta, and I've reblogged countless fanart. A lot of what I engage with or have made meets the standards I'm about to critique, and I understand completely that for many, fandom is a hobby. People would like to escape from the struggles in their lives. They find comfort in the media they love, so they immerse themselves it. It can be hard to make anything in this capitalist hellscape, so if you've achieved something at all, it's a miracle. I get it. I really do. I'm not an art snob; I think it's fine if things aren't that deep, and they're primarily wish-fulfillment. I have some grievances with the critics too, and they'll come up. This post isn't about you specifically; it's bigger. Fandom content suffers a lack of substance because of superficial engagement with the source material.

Many fandom critical posts on this website bring up shipping culture as the reason everything is samey and uninteresting, often referencing ao3 in specific. I sympathize with these posts, I also find shipping prominence can be fairly tedious when you want to read ANYTHING else, but why is it when complain about fandom, we point the finger at fic? Why do we use shorthands like "he would not fucking say that," and drop ao3 tagging conventions, and mention fanfic websites? Have y'all LOOKED at the fan art you reblog? A lot of it is just posing and kissing. If you wanted to analyze it for any further meaning, I don't think you'd get very far. I am not positioning fanfiction as superior; as everyone points out, a lot of it is repetitive and derivative, but let's not pretend that this is a fanfic exclusive issue. We can take it further out! Look at the absolute state of meta. Most analysis is done in service of promoting a headcanon or a ship if it isn't just a theory wildly speculating an explanation for an unresolved or ambiguous plot point. We're gonna include those guys who make power scaling rankings, filling out the wiki, etc too. They're fans! Everyone agrees those people aren't engaging with the text in a deeper way, but that doesn't make them NOT fans. It is the way their appreciation manifests the clearest! We're all fans; we are doing the same thing in just a different form.

Most of what gets popularized I all these spaces is based on a strictly literal understanding of the work; it's about plot events and how characters relate to it and one another, and the meaning people get out of it—from shipping to theorizing to memes to tierlists—never goes beyond that level. If people don't know how to look for themes, to interpret symbolism and examine the construction of a work to see how it contributes to how the whole is operating to affect them, because their education on how to do it sucked shit, then obviously they won't. But I don't think that's enough to explain the heart of the problem.

Critics will bring up the fandom wash cycle, an analogy for how way fandom will spend more time engaged with itself than the source material, and perpetuate its own tropes and fixations ad nauseum. This is true in any fanspace you can spend your time in, including those "who would win" bros. I hear this, and I think of social media, the place most of fandom lives now. People making original work often talk about how their stuff never gets any attention compared to fandom stuff; the biggest fandoms are sprawling franchises with corporate entities behind them. Social media algorithms promote what is already popular, what will generate the most clicks, so you stay online and make their corporate overlords more money. It is the depth of human experience streamlined into easily digestible chunks.

You're spent because life is hard and the world sucks and the only relief you can find is in the media you love. You don't want to expend a lot of energy today, so you'll consume or create ship centered content, or fan theories, or memes and gifs. You'll wonder who would win in a fight. Even without social media, people feed their own algorithms, because the system is designed to encourage it. Fandom is part of a larger whole.

If fandom will ever be more than what it is, you have to be willing to put in the work to fix it. Criticism won't cut it. As the saying goes, be the change you want to see in the world. Create what you want to see, use what you make to teach what might be lacking, seek out more of the things that look like what you want fandom to be (I assure you it exists), not just what you already know. Fandom is perpetuated by fans. Being a fan doesn't make you predisposed to creating cyclical, watered-down content. Every fan has a rich internal life with a whole host of experiences that should inform both how they make their works and how they read it to begin with, because they're people.

People are far too diverse to be defined by an algorithm; maybe with enough effort, we can write a new one.

Tae and Jennie dating rumors

Now this is a topic I have been a bit afraid to touch. But I have gotten several asks about it, and I do have thoughts about the subject. I don’t think this will be a very fun read, but even so I always strive to be as honest as I can and I don’t want to ignore it either. I think no matter what I say there will be some readers who will end up disappointed, but I hope this post at least explains my take properly and that you can understand my reasoning.

Edit. Forgot one ask I'll add it when I get to my computer next time. For now this is what it said:

First of all sorry for being silent, I started this post and then got covid for 3 weeks. I also think the fact that we simply get less content from BTS is going to mean less content from the fan creators to some extent as well.

To be frank, the easiest explanation for the rumors is that indeed Tae and Jennie are together. At this point there are just a lot of various photos of them together as well as photos from matching places (including the one of Tae on a bed that matches with Jennie’s pillows and covers you mentioned anon) and the timing of clothes they have worn and them being in the same places around the same time seem to indicate the realness of them. Of course the photos could be edited, but with even bruises on Tae’s legs matching it feels like there are too many details overlapping for all of them to be edited. On top of that we of course have the IG follow (accidental or not) from Tae, Tae going with Lisa to Paris and then going to New York at the same time as BP and being rumored to be at their listening party. Lastly we also have the silence from both companies.

Logically, the easiest explanation is usually the most likely one. That being said, of course Tae and Jennie being a couple is not the only option, I personally simply think it’s the easiest explanation for what we have seen and heard at this point. I am not going to dive deeply into each picture or analyze if it’s real or not, because honestly I rather simply speak about the possibilities of this being real or not and what each possibility could mean. I want to be open-minded, and especially as a Vmin shipper I don’t want to try to find reasons to believe or not believe. I’ll just wait and see.

A rumor is still a rumor and as of now it’s not yet confirmed, so while I think it’s possible I won’t say it’s definite. 

For me it doesn’t matter much if it is true or not though, as long as Taehyung is happy. I am glad that we got the live interaction of Jimin and Taehyung because even though I have always been confident in Vmin’s bond no matter the type I do feel that it will remind other people that Vmin are as close (and even clingy) as ever. 

(I mean, not only did Tae keep commenting and Jimin kept talking to him during the live, we also learned Jimin got the moon phases added to his first tattoo becuase of a fanart Tae showed him. Also Tae confirmed to look at Jimin fanart everyone.)

Basically regardless of the truth I remain of the opinion that Vmin is Vmin, and they love each other and are each other’s soulmates and that isn’t going to change even if they date other people.

Now I’ll talk through some of my personal reflections and reactions to the rumors, but mind you they are all over the place, because again, I don’t like to come to any definite conclusion when nothing is confirmed.

Honestly, I must say even just a BTS member dating a Black Pink member seems so unreal to me. Simply because of the odds of two members of the most popular groups in Kpop actually ending up together outside of fanfiction and fan theories seems so unlikely. Especially since this ship has been popular for years and they happen to be two of the most influential people in all of Kpop. Not that it means it can’t be real, it just seems so weird to happen after so many years of fans “wanting it”.

Admittedly Jennie is probably the BP member I have the least interest in, but somehow she and I must have similar tastes because at this point she has allegedly dated three of my ultimate biases; Kai (EXO), GD (Big Bang) and now Tae. I remember when the Kai and Jennie dating was revealed by Dispatch and I also remember wondering if it was a PR relationship, though I can’t really remember where that feeling came from besides from how short lived it was. I think maybe they were also doing promo for things around that time?

Anyways, the point is that with Kai and Jennie the rumor was confirmed (fairly quickly at that) even though they broke up shortly after, and while the agencies said they didn’t know they said they would look into it. (Though I think if Dispatch already had pictures likely the companies were informed before the photos got released.) (Some articles on it X and X). SM later confirmed, while I think YG stayed silent. So at least in this sense it could match up with their reaction to the Tae x Jennie rumors. But I still don’t understand why they wouldn’t confirm if it is real.

I also remember the private photos of Jennie and GD being spread and honestly I think Jennie must be pretty bad at keeping things secret at this point. 

The one thing I will say about the pictures leaked of Tae and Jennie is that if this person who keeps leaking personal photos has so many photos then why are there not any decent ones showing both of the idols faces? I mean, if they take photos together without worrying then I would personally assume there should be some cute couple ones where their faces are very clear. But again, maybe this person is leaking these other photos for some reason, or maybe Tae and Jennie are careful enough to wear masks for couple photos but not careful enough to not take couple photos to begin with?

I am mostly saying this because it didn’t seem to apply with the private circulating photo of Jennie and G-dragon, though in it they don’t act like a couple you can very clearly see both of their faces.

Speaking of GD though, his behavior in this whole mess has also been a bit weird... Liking posts about him and Jennie as a couple? But also unfollowing people and commenting on weird things? Of course it could be fans making edits or something, but if it’s real it’s just another weird layer to it all. Either way G-dragon is also getting some media attention because of this rumor. (Article X)

I am no expert in Korean dating culture, nor in how celebrities and their companies handle rumors, but I do think it’s weird that we haven’t gotten any proper statements yet except “it’s difficult to confirm because it’s the artists’ personal lives” basically. When Dispatch is the one confirming I think they usually check in with the companies first, but in this situation all the pictures come from a random person who keeps leaking more and more photos. It’s odd that they simply let the person keep going, not to mention that most of the photos (if real) are obviously from the idol’s own personal phone (Jennie’s) which is a horrible breach of privacy that one would think they would do something about. Of course they might be doing something behind closed doors, but nonetheless it has been going on for a long time now with new photos or rumors every other day.

For me I don’t understand why the companies would let it continue on like this with more and more photos being leaked, which regardless of the rumors being true or not is a big offense against the artists. Even if the photos are fake this is something that could harm both individuals, but perhaps especially Jennie as it seems the person is even leaking other private photos of her. Again, real or not this is simply not something that should be allowed to go on for this long. I personally think this is weird and very poorly handled by the companies, especially if these photos are real.

Sure Hybe hasn't had any similar situations before, but it's their job to deal with and take care of things like this all the same. Being sloppy or unsure how to proceed is possible but for how long are they just gonna let it go on?

By now surely they must have talked to Jennie and Tae, because of the nature of the leak, and if they are together and don’t want to confirm then fine... It could explain the silence, but then I hope that at least behind closed doors they are trying to do something about it. For me if they are together and considering how easily the Jennie x Kai rumor was confirmed I don’t see how confirming would bring more harm at this point rather than letting the leaks continue. I think most fans would simply offer sympathy. The only reasons I can think of for them to keep quiet is if the rumors are not true but they gain from the rumors, or the rumors are true but Tae and Jennie don’t want to confirm or that the companies think they have more to gain by not confirming despite the drama (like free PR and not angering shippers).

When it comes down to it there are only a few possible options (though they all allow various reasons for how it's been handled).

The rumors are true. Tae and Jennie are dating and the rest is all just the companies handling it all weirdly. 

The photos and all of the rumors are fake, but they still won’t confirm anything. 

The photos (at least some of them) are real, but they are not in a relationship.

The third option can in turn be developed with various angles, for example they are just friends (though that also seems weird considering the type of photos), but in this case keeping silent I feel would only be for another purpose, like the relationship is created/used for PR and/or the relationship is a sort of bearding/cover.

PR relationships are actually quite common, though I do think less so amongst idols simply because dating in general is not seen as a very positive thing. Even so, relationships can be used as promoting groups or activities and creates a lot of attention and buzz. A relationship that is real can of course also be used for PR, which we should keep in mind.

To me the timing of this relationship and the silence from the companies is what I think indicates they are using the rumor for PR purposes, no matter if it’s real or not.

Not confirming in itself might also be a decided PR move, to let the rumors be talked about and engage fans in speculation to gain more attention. Even so, I do think it’s odd that so little has been said about the rumors officially and it does leave room for deniability in the future. (If they actually are together with other people this is especially important to not let the rumors be clear lies told by the idols if the truth comes out in the future).

If the relationship is real I do think it will be confirmed at some point ahead (unless they break up before such a point is reached). I say this mostly based on 3 things. 1. Jennie and Kai already had their relationship confirmed. 2. If it’s a serious relationship (which I feel Tae being who he is it would be) then they would likely want to confirm at some point to show it’s serious. 3. The rumors have been going on for so long now that most fans seem to accept them and even say “just let them be already” meaning if they are afraid of fans’ reactions it has already started to accept the possibility more (as often happens with time). Basically if this all keeps going for a long time if it is real I will start to expect some kind of confirmation or at the very least more sightings etc. from more sources rather than just this one person who has been leaking things. 

If nothing is ever said regarding Tae and Jennie and new rumors with other people or a confirmation of them being single appears it’s possible they used this for PR and either created the rumor for buzz, or rode along with it.

For me one of the most interesting questions about these rumors is about the timing. Why now?

The fact that it has all surfaced and been reported on along other individual projects with Taehyung being promoted, as well as around the time of BP having activities is always a PR red flag so to speak. Not that it can’t be genuine, but for example rumors of Tae showing up to the BP listening party or him being in New York at the same time as they do promotion etc. will mean the articles can advertise activities along with the rumors. Tae having an official appearance with Lisa during this period is another clear example or co-promotion for both groups even outside of the rumors that seems rather convenient with the timing.

I have yet to post it, but one part of my big Vmin analysis brings up Tae’s (and Jimin’s) individual personality and how I think he would be and think about a relationship. In that post I explain that Tae seems to be the type that wants to be as open as possible with most things. About who he is, but also if possible with who he loves. To me this is one of the reasons I can see Tae out of all members being less careful if he actually is in a relationship. He simply wouldn’t care much if people didn’t like it, because to him his true fans will accept it and be happy for him, and being truthful and happy is more important than the idol image. Of course it is a difficult subject, but with BTS being more “separate” as individuals it could now be different and Tae might have fewer reasons to hide his love life. Similarly to how fans have started to accept his smoking and it being his choice, eventually fans will get used to and accept the idea that he is dating. This could be one explanation to why the rumors have shown up now, and not before, even if members have had relationships before. Tae might simply be less careful about it. His reply about the accidental follow contradicts this a bit though, but that whole thing is also part of how all this started, so who knows if it was accidental or not.

I am going to be perfectly honest here, I would still be surprised if Tae is 100% straight and has never had a crush on Jimin. But the possibility is and always has been there. I might simply have convinced myself with my own analyses and theories to the point that it’s difficult to imagine Tae as anything else but in love with Jimin (I mean, you have seen what Tae does, Jimin is clearly very special to him). But again, that’s why I have to try even harder to remember that it’s still based on my interpretation, as well as my biases, and I might have gotten all of it (or some of it) completely wrong.

One of the things that I have been thinking about in regards to Vmin in particular with this rumor coming about is the possibility of “bearding”.

Now, I don’t really like to jump at this reason simply because it feels very much like an act of cognitive dissonance being a driving force. Basically as a Vmin shipper I might want to try to find reasons for the rumors that still allow my view of Vmin as a couple to remain intact. This is a danger I have spoken about myself before and I need to follow my own advice. (BTS&Vmin analysis pt. 3 - Problems with analysis of real people (part 1)) As one anon mentioned, this type of behavior also seems to be happening within the tae/kook community.

Bearding is a possibility but my main thought about this option is once again “Why now?” I mean, we know that BTS have all been rumored to be gay or have extreme shippers who believe members to be gay or in relationships with each other etc. but we have never seen any relationships with any of them before.

The only reason I could see bearding being a possibility is if something else is to happen that might in opposite to the Tae x Jennie rumors spark really big suspicions of members being gay. In particular about Tae of course, but also possibly Jimin if we look at a Vmin perspective. Despite it being close to their likely to happen military service it’s possible that there could still be things released that might make more people speculate about a LGBT+ connection for them.

I want to add onto this with a few new updates with Vmin in particular, as they came out after these thoughts of “what could trigger the need for a beard?” were already in my head. 

First it was the live interactions, as mentioned above, it indicated Vmin still going strong. And secondly, and more poignant, when I saw Jimin’s Photo-Folio concept photos and his “color: freedom” theme matched with him being an angel in the colors of the Bi flag, I must say this speculation was a bit triggered in me. (Even if this is still all just speculative about what Jimin actually is saying)

But alas it would talk a lot more than that for there to be a reason to shield Tae in particular with a fake girlfriend rumor even if Jimin was to actually come out as LGBT+ officially. Especially with the other two maknae ships being much more popular anyways it’s unlikely the fandom would jump at Tae being LGBT+ and together with Jimin based on what Jimin does in regards to his own sexuality. So with that being said, IF this whole thing is a bearding situation I think something else that is more directly connected to Tae would have to be revealed. Maybe with his own Me, Myself and Taehyung concept? 

My first thought in regards to something being released that calls for a beard though was if perhaps KTH1 is going to include more songs about love, and perhaps even use even more possible themes we already connect to Vmin? If so, having a possible love relationship for Tae there for fans to think of top of mind would make some sense. Again, this is the Vmin angle of this whole thing, but I still want to remind you this is all wild speculation. But as a Vminie, and as an analyzer I wanted to include these speculations as they did pop into my head.

These rumors have been all over the place and honestly I am kind of hoping it will all come to some end sooner rather than later. I especially think this very weird person who leaks things should just stop stirring things up and sharing things that aren’t theirs to share, or alternatively spreading lies for attention (planned by the companies for PR or done on the whim of a very disturbing individual doesn’t matter). I will surely notice if more developments regarding the rumor happens, but for now I am not that invested with more of the same coming out and rather wait until we actually get something more official. Basically I am just writing all of this to say "Let's wait and see".

Lastly, I wonder if people will still be interested in my Vmin analyses. As you know I have been working on the big one and was about to post a new chapter to Tumblr when these rumors and BTS’s whole hiatus put a bit of a stop to it. I don’t know if I should keep posting like usual, but honestly I do think a lot of the analysis is an interesting read no matter if Vmin is real or not. As you probably know I’ve always written analyses with the stance that Vmin might just be friends and that’s fine, their bond is still incredible and very interesting to look closer at. Also as I said nothing is confirmed, and Vmin are in the end still suspicious with a lot of things I haven’t talked about properly in posts yet. But let me know what you think, maybe you all find it weird for me to keep writing ship analysis for Vmin with everything that is going on.
