Ink Review: Sailor x Tinterias Inks
I recently attended the Chicago Pen Show and came across a trio of inks that I had heard about but had never had the opportunity to purchase. So of course, I grabbed all three immediately!
Tinterias is a Spanish language podcast run by Jeffrey Coleman who is a professor at Northwestern University who also seems to have excellent taste in ink. He teamed up with Sailor to create a group of…

“i will love you 'til the end of time, i would wait a million years. promise you'll remember that you're mine, baby, can you see through the tears?
love you more than those bitches before. say you'll remember (oh baby), say you'll remember, oh baby… i will love you 'til the end of time.”
the idea for this one came to me late last night while i was watching the office (the episode where pam goes off to art school and we meet holly), and i thought about the scenes in seasons grey where christine imagines her and alex running away together, especially the mermaid line—she becomes one and she takes him away from his mundane life to the fantastical realm below.
i think about it because i just can’t stop thinking about him right now, and how he’s been acting lately since his mother got out of the hospital and he returned to the circus. hiding his face, not smiling nearly as much as he used to, being weirdly reclusive (and he’s usually very active even while on tour), his round handsome face is thin, pale, and even drained, lost a bunch of weight (which may seem counterintuitive, but that’s actually not healthy, especially for someone his age), his gorgeous sensual body looking more and more uncomfortable, his usually soulful eyes with a playful little twinkle in them now big and hollow like black holes…
it’s not just collateral damage from his mom being ill, either, like his posts lately have had this “hate me” tone to them, compared to his usual healthy self-deprecation.
i could be overreacting—i admit i have a bad habit of overthinking things—but i noticed it immediately, and a few others have picked up on it in the last couple of days, so i know for a fact i’m not losing my mind.
if only there was a way. if only i could be a mermaid and cure him of his pain, whatever it is that’s hurting him, loving and nourishing his withering body and healing the wounds on his heart as i heal my own, a running theme in most of my fics centered around him but this is somewhat different because it’s based on reality…
it’ll be some time before i can write anything down (especially since i have my other fics to write), but i’m feeling the title of “neptune’s spear”.

This year I collected a bunch of fallen walnut fruit and made ink and stain. It was pretty easy to make - just about 20 rotten walnuts simmered for about 5 hours in water. So far I've used it to stain leather and paint in my sketchbook. I added gum arabic powder to thicken the ink and sodium benzoate to preserve it.
It's a beautiful color. Unfortunately, walnut ink is fugitive, so it's something for my sketchbook and not for the art pieces I sell.

Inkmas #4: Kobe City Museum Gray
Welcome to Inkmas Day 4!
I recently found a gorgeous new color from Kobe – City Museum Gray. The ink looks like a warm mug of hot chocolate – not just in the swatch, but in writing as well. Depending on your paper, your nib, and the lighting, this ink can appear anywhere from a warm gray to an unsaturated light brown.
The color reminds me of Montblanc Swan Illusion, but City Museum has less…
