finished my rewatch of gravity falls today so here's some random thoughts i wrote down over the course of the last few episodes (sure most of this has been mentioned already but eh. no harm in repeating things):

-could you imagine how differently things would've gone if any of the pines members knew about ford's nightmare (especially stan)

Can we take a second to discuss Danse’s nonexistent storyline arc???

Yeah, Danse is a powerful brotherhood leader. Danse has become Soles best friend. Danse is slowly opening up to them, blossoming like a flower when spring starts coming, Danse is-

What? Oh, hell, well, Danse is a synth. The exact thing he’s been trained into thinking is scum and a disgrace to mankind.

And after realizing this, Bethesda goes, hey Danse, run away. Which is pretty justified, saying as Maxson wants him dead and he’s having the biggest identity crisis known to man.

and THEN Bethesdas like, Danse’s best friend, go kill him but not really! Okay, great, here sole goes to not kill him. Oh boy, emotional conversations, may or may not unlock the choice to tell him youre in love with him even though he clearly is in self destruct mode and in no headspace to think about being a romantic partner to anyone. Dude just got finished telling you he’s nothing and now you’re telling him he needs to live up to the idea of being soles ideal romantic partner? Wormhole of more self destruction, there.

And Maxson shows up. (How did he leave the Prydwen and get here in twenty minutes without a single person watching his back?) We’re all screaming about how Danse is a person, how we love him, how he’s so amazing and perfect and he deserves to live. And Maxsons just like “fine lol” and leaves. Wtf?

Here’s where it gets messy. Because Danse is like, imma leave the commonwealth. Ok bro, go have a cute life somewhere. But sole just confessed their love to him and ask him to stay. So he’s like, “sure I’ll stay here in this little thing and make it more livable” no he doesn’t.

And if the player character doesn’t interact with him anymore, that’s where he stays. Indefinitely. Forever. Doing absolutely nothing. Sitting, wollowing in self pity, probably thinking about offing himself again because he’s spending the rest of his life in a crappy basement.

Here’s how I think it shouldve gone.

Sole finds him at the listening post, and lets him just talk instead of dumping all of their feelings over his poor little head. I wish we had gentler dialogue options, where we can carefully and purposefully lead him through this time of trouble without bringing soles emotions into it and manipulating him into not killing himself. The whole “think about the people that care about you” thing is MANIPULATION. And he lets you because he’s so broken and lost! It irks me. Because his response is 100% real, in that moment he would let you run over him and sway his mind because he’s a disaster at that point.

So, Sole leads him through it gently, with an unwavering amount of love and care and zero manipulation. He gets to come to his own conclusion about life. Sole says, hey, you can live with me and my friends in Sanctuary (or wherever) and we’ll be there for you. But if you wanna stay you can.

Sole can take Danse home. He can have actual conversations with other companions — Deacon talks to him about the Railroad, not to pressure him, but just to let him in on what they really do, and that they’re always there to support him if he needs. Nick and Curie help guide him through being a synth. Preston can give him a job, if he wants one, a purpose, something to do with his hands that is good for his mind. X6 might actually stop hating him. They all (mostly) make their support known, because Sole loves Danse, which means they do, too. The companions are a family and they won’t exclude one just because of his past. How hypocritical!

This unwavering support from people other than Sole would provide Danse with more of a reason to live, to move on, to see things from different perspectives and — heck — maybe even begin to change his mind about the ideals of the brotherhood. Because these synths, these ghouls, these people support him, they befriended him, they didn’t care about his past or who he used to be. Because they help him realize he has worth. Because they haven’t given up on him, so why should he give up on himself?

Maybe he joins the railroad. Or maybe he lives a beautiful life with Sole and friends.

Anything to give him a full arc and a chance to be happy without spending his whole life in a basement sulking about having no worth. Anything to give him a real answer to his identity crises other than Sole loves me so I gotta stay. Anything to give him his own worth in his eyes, to give him a real conclusion, a real idea of who he is beyond sole.

This is literally everything I love about this band in a nutshell bc 1) this is literally a book they put out with their 7th record You Are OK which like. Need more be said on that album title? And they were just like “hey we not only want to do this record but we want to show you our headspace while we were writing it and let you know we see you and this is how we got here.”

2) the reason they can be like “fuck it lets also do a book” is because they have been completely 100% independent since 2011 (cough fuck Warner Bros cough) and it ALLOWS them to have the mindset Evan mentions. They DID the big label and the one hit in 2008. They could have probably been playing arenas and getting radio play on the alt stations long before now, but they aren’t. Which brings me to 3) because they want to do things authentically and not just churn out money.

This is the band that did a FOR FREE TOUR. AN ENTIRE TOUR!! WHERE YOUR TICKET WAS FREE. JUST SHOW UP. They *CALL YOU* when you pre order their record just to say thanks (and sometimes to prank you but that’s a story for another time #BigStimmyEnergy)

They hop down off stage right after the gig and take photos with as many people as they can. I’ve met these guys more times than I could accurately count. My cousins thought I was dating Jared the guitarist cuz I had him in so many of my profile pics on Facebook 😂 I have NEVER done a paid m&g for TM because their whole THING is “we want to meet you too. Come talk to us.” They don’t HAVE m&g, they have Pat the drummer slinging merch or the post-show hangs or walking the line while everyone is queuing. I think it’s harder to NOT meet TM than to actually meet them 😂

They make it SO OBVIOUS that they care and want to have success in the industry yes, but not at the expense of us. And that is so incredibly rare. I never question if the guys in TM are good people - I sometimes question if they think their shit through enough and definitely know they stumble like everyone. But I never question their intentions. Or where their hearts are.

They’d rather be where they are and happy than the next big thing.

I haven’t read through this thing in a while and honestly kinda forgot I had it, so thank you very much for letting me find it again (and sorry for gushing but. They are my faves. band1. Forever.)

Bendy Bites 2: Snack

Wow, y’all really liked my first Bendy Bites post. I’m not one to refuse the masses so here’s another idea that’s been spinning around my head. This one I haven’t quite given up on fitting into the fic somewhere but I’m still going to throw out here.

I've explained this in my fic notes but I headcanon that when Bendy is smol, he’s like Audrey’s little brother. But when he’s big, he’s like a big brother. That means he gets to annoy her like a big brother too.

Cue them walking through the studio again nearish the sewers (Bendy as the Ink Demon, Audrey as Audrey), and Bendy finds one of the nasty widow pods growing out of the floor. Naturally, he rips it out of the floor and starts snacking on it like its an apple.

Audrey is, of course, disgusted by this but doesn’t say anything because she’s still a little scared of him and what he eats ain’t none of her business.

Bendy notices her staring and gets a devilish idea.

Bendy, holding out the half-eaten widow pod: WOULD YOU LIKE SOME?

Audrey, doing her best not to gag: No! No thank you, I’m good.

Bendy: ARE YOU CERTAIN?

Audrey: Yes, I’m certain. I think I’ll stick to vending machine food, thanks.

Taking a mischievous step forward, Bendy: THAT’S NOT VERY NUTRICIOUS. JUST TRY A BITE, I INSIST.

Audrey, taking a wary step back: And I insist that I’d rather not, thank you.

They stare at each other for a moment until Bendy’s grin becomes wicked.

Cut to another part of the studio.

Audrey runs around a corner, shortly followed by the Ink Demon still carrying the widow pod.

Bendy: YOU CAN’T RUN FOREVER!

Audrey: Like hell I can’t! Keep that nasty thing away from me!

Bendy: DON’T KNOCK IT ‘TIL YOU TRY IT, BRO.

Eventually he catches her and jokingly shoves it at her face while Audrey laugh-screams about it and shoves it away. Of course he doesn’t actually force her to eat it, he just wanted to mess with her. They both end up laughing and this opens the door for Audrey to tease him back about his weird habits.

If anyone wants to write your own Bendy Bite based on my fic feel free! Depending on how accurate it is I might even consider it canon 😉

as anyone who has tried to learn an art could tell you, your taste in the craft will always accelerate faster than your actual skill. and now, dear tumblr users, i have reached this point. my taste has risen meteorically, and is now exploring the cosmos. my actual skill at anything has been left choking on pathetic, earthling dust.

as such, the specter of perfectionism has once again reared its head.

it sits at the helm of my creative synapses, acting as an infernal judge dictating the quality of everything i make. and unfortunately, the specter is a pessimist, a real “glass half-empty” sort of guy.

in a lot of ways, i’m a real hypocrite. i’ve encouraged nearly everyone i’ve met in the past year to pursue some sort of creative effort. and when they jokingly retort “oh id only make garbage,” id unleash my whole spiel on the topic: “it doesn’t have to be good! self expression is important! the greatest poets were spitting drivel at first! van gogh’s first painting is probably a complete piece of shit!”

and then, after the spectral, infernal judge/helmsman hasnt sent anything good out in a while, a second ghost, that of self doubt creeps in. and i question if i even enjoy making, if im so obsessed with the result. have i chosen the wrong profession? have i ever had an original thought in my entire life?

it’s time i mention the most popular thing ive ever posted on this website: a complete ranking of every super smash bros character, ranked by how good of a meal i think they would bring to a potluck.

i got the idea for this post after babysitting my young cousins, playing super smash bros with them. after a while, i got a character with a charge move, and said “hang on, let me cook for a bit.” they’re young, so they took this completely literally with “you’re not cooking anything.”

the entire night i was plagued, thinking about what smash bros characters would actually cook meal-wise. i wrote the entire thing in 2 hours, and i was sloppy with it. i got the numbers for the characters wrong multiple times, and i didn’t even go back and fix it. and yet it’s my most popular post, it has over a thousand notes.

my point is that your best ideas aren’t something that will shine on you like the light of god. they’re things that you’ll randomly think of while sitting on the toilet, which is even better than the light of god i think. and there’s value in all of your ideas. not just value for random tumblr users, but value for yourself.

originality is overrated anyways. i haven’t necessarily said anything original here, but it was worth it to me! i’ve reasoned through a writer’s block! i’ve made a thing! it’s worth it to me!

just make things. every single idea a person can have is precious. it’s all valuable in some way. you’re creative, even if you don’t know that yet. you’re an artistic genius whether you like it or not, you simply have no choice. so just make.

and i don’t think this essay will solve all block forever. obviously not. i’ll be scorned by the evils of perfectionism again. probably later today. but just do what you need to, take a break, take a walk, rewatch everything everywhere all at once, take a tumblr break. this is fun, remember?

A/N: I’m literally so excited to post this I love him so much just. Look at him. Also might be kinda dry bc I haven’t watched the movie in a while but oh well. Not pandemic specific, this could also be read as you two just finding new hobbies. Switching between using his birth name and “American” name bc yannow I feel like it’s important to acknowledge both.

Something you and your boyfriend had noticed in the recent years was that time had a unique way of passing

So fast, but simultaneously dragging on

Very early on you noticed you needed some new hobbies

In reality, it took you and Shaun a week to get burnt out on nearly every video game you owned

Smash Bros? Got repetitive. Animal Crossing? Creator block. Minecraft? After you threatened to break the Xbox (you were blown up by a creeper after just finding diamonds), he decided it was best to hide the controls.

Which led to you sitting in the kitchen in the middle of the night, eating some leftover pizza

“What do we do now?”

“Beats me.”

Cue the brainstorming session

The two of you paced around the small apartment, trying to think of new things to try

Let me get this straight though: Shang-Chi can absolutely cook. The issue is more of whether he wants to or not.

He had it all planned out in his head, and hoped the execution would go well

Your lovely boyfriend was going to prepare one of his favorite meals that his mom made when he was young

Then, you two would go to the park and have a bit of time to do yoga

To say it shocked you was an understatement

He ended up taking the food to the park and having a bit of a picnic after stretching. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect; the temperature was amazing, with the hint of a breeze

No matter how mundane the rest of the world seemed, nature remained untouched. Flowers were blooming, leaves in all shades of green, and the wildlife positively buzzing

Yoga was tranquil and relaxing — until the breeze picked up too much and made you lose your balance

The sight of Shaun with his hand out had you at a loss for words. “Wow, falling for me that hard?”

You could’ve stayed in that moment forever. It was quiet in the park, but even if it wasn’t, that wouldn’t have mattered. The lush green leaves danced in the background almost pointing you towards the face of your beloved.

For the first time in ages, he just looked… peaceful. Looking at you had earned that reaction.

Soft beams of light danced over your skin, highlighting the color and (freckles/imperfections/etc). The color of your eyes a brightened hue but still full of life — a great contrast to how everything felt lately.

The moment felt gentle, and fragile. Like something that could shatter if you moved on too quickly. Everything around you began to blur until it dissipated completely, leaving the two of you in the pure white energy.

His face leaned in closer, enough for you to practically feel his smile.

“I think we should really hop on the ‘plant gay’ bandwagon, don’t you think?”

“Shang-Chi, you’re lucky I love you. Because you just completely butchered our moment.”

He was right, though. Afterwards, your shared space became full with different plants. All colors, shapes, and shades.
