Nayaga Budjaan, English Taylor, nayaga Murramarang ngaranggal. (I am Budjaan, English Taylor, I am a Murramarang woman).

It's been so touching to see an outpour of support for Aboriginal art on this platform. I always recommend that anyone seek out local Native artists wherever you live. Whether that be on Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island land, Native American or Canadian Aboriginal land, wherever you find yourself! Find and support local Native communities and creators.

If you feel connected or drawn to my art, I do commission work. Feel free to dm me for information if you want!

Here's an example of a commission I did last year. The marra (fish) in this painting represent each member of the family I did the painting for. Yellow circles around their heads showing that though they swim through a wide ocean of change and life, they are the centre of their world, and forever will be linked together.

Thanks to everyone who has interacted with my previous art post. I hope that I can help spread awareness of the meaning and importance of Native art, and help develop an appreciation for different kinds of art in the world.

Aboriginal people having been living on this land for at least 80 thousand years (for context, that's 16 times older than ancient Egypt!) Our art is ancient, storied, vital, and continues to live today!

Here are some more private commissions I've done in the past.

The first is a yaranbul (platypus). The client asked for the platypus to be based on a similar photograph, with a blue backdrop, and to do the platypus itself in whatever style I felt best. I combined several patterns in this piece, including traditional fine brush strokes, cross hatch lines, dots, and feathered strokes.

The second is a djagula (lyrebird, more specifically the superb lyrebird). The lyrebird is a fantastical creature, capable of mimicking any sound they hear with perfect accuracy. For this reason, many tribes have beliefs about the origins and role of the lyrebird, ranging from peacemaker to trickster, or even that he was a man trapped in the body of a bird. Given how magical the lyrebird is, I'm not surprised by how many stories revolve around him.
