4 years ago : blackout in Caracas
Nationwide recurring electrical blackouts in Venezuela began in March 2019. Experts and state-run Corpoelec (Corporación Eléctrica Nacional) sources attribute the electricity shortages to lack of maintenance and to a lack of technical expertise in the country resulting from a brain drain; Nicolás Maduro’s administration attributes them to sabotage. Since March, various nationwide blackouts…

China has donated $100 million to Cuba to help it survive a crippling economic crisis exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, the island nation's Deputy Prime Minister Alejandro Gil said Saturday.[...]
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Diaz-Canel met on Friday and "the offer arose of a donation of around $100 million by China," Gil told Cuban state television.
Gil, who is also Cuba's economy minister, said the money would go toward "priorities" on the island, which has been rocked by its worst economic crisis in three decades.
Diaz-Canel concluded his visit to China later Friday and continued on a global tour designed to gain support for Cuba in renovating an electrical system that has failed repeatedly, causing frequent blackouts.
Gil said leaders of the two countries also discussed "the subject of the debt" that Cuba has accrued with China [...]
"Our president explained the situation that we confront, and there was understanding from China. We are seeking mutually acceptable formulas for the planning and restructuring of the debts," Gil said.
China is Cuba's second biggest trade partner after Venezuela. Both nations are strong political allies of Cuba.
Earlier on his trip, Diaz-Canel visited Algeria, where President Abdelmadjid Tebboune promised to ship fuel to Cuba, donate a photovoltaic power plant and cancel interest on debts, Gil said.

Hundreds of protesters have taken to the streets in Cuba in recent days, furious over the lack of food and electricity. With chants of "hunger" and "we want food," the demonstrations have centered in Santiago de Cuba, the country's second-biggest city, and surrounding towns in the southeastern area of the island. They are the biggest anti-government protests since 2021, when thousands of Cubans took to the streets, triggering a massive crackdown by the state. Since then, the economic situation has deteriorated further, and analysts say the crisis is the worst in at least three decades. Claribel, 58, a resident of Santiago, says hardly a day goes by when there aren't at least five hours of power outages. Food is in such short supply that her 2-year-old great-nephew is being fed juice instead of milk. Public transportation has dried up because of a lack of fuel. "The situation here is horrible," Claribel says. "To live in Cuba is a tragedy." NPR is withholding her last name for her safety. Cuba's economy began tanking during the pandemic, when international tourism plummeted and inflation soared. During that same period, former President Donald Trump imposed a range of sanctions on Cuba after re-designating the country a "state sponsor of terrorism." But conditions in the country have rapidly spiraled in recent months, especially in poorer regions outside of the capital of Havana. Fuel prices have increased five-fold since the beginning of March. The cost of public transportation has also soared, to the extent there is any. The Cuban government suspended all sports tournaments because of a lack of transportation. Blackouts have become a constant. The communist government — which uses a rationing system to provide a certain amount of food per household — has even started limiting its allocations of bread to children and pregnant women. Some analysts say conditions are worse than the economic crisis that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, a time known as the Special Period. "I was a kid but I recall that during the Special Period we got a ration of bread daily. Every Cuban. Not this time," says Ricardo Torres, a Cuban economist at American University in Washington, D.C. He says Cuba's problems, from food shortages to power outages, are the result of the country's massive financial deficit and lack of money to pay for imports. Dilapidated power plants have shut down and there's not enough fuel to power those still working. "Around 95% of Cuba's electricity is produced by power plants that burn oil. Fuel oil, diesel, even crude oil. So if you don't have the fuel, you cannot operate the plants," Torres says. In other words, he says, there's "no fuel, no electricity."
For more than two decades, Cuba relied on oil-rich Venezuela — a political ally — for crude and fuel in exchange for sending doctors and school teachers to the South American country. But as Venezuela's oil production plummeted in recent years, so did its generosity toward Cuba. Russia is now believed to be sending a large oil tanker to help the island amid the shortage, according to news reports citing a researcher at University of Texas who closely tracks shipping to Cuba. Cuba's president said in a statement his government will address protesters' concerns, but also denounced "enemies of the revolution" for trying to destabilize the country and accused the U.S. of stoking the protests. A spokesperson for the Cuban government blamed the economic crisis on decades-old U.S. sanctions that have complicated the island's purchase of fuel and food. That's partially true, says Johanna Cilano Pelaez, a researcher with Amnesty International. "But it's irresponsible to blame U.S. sanctions alone for the state of the Cuban economy," she says. For now, the Cuban government's response to the protests has been relatively subdued compared to 2021, when hundreds of demonstrators were arrested and some sentenced to up to 25 years in prison. While authorities have detained some protesters in recent days, they have also given out extra rice, milk and sugar in an effort to appease the growing outcry. In Santiago de Cuba, Claribel says Cubans' anger and frustration are beginning to outweigh their fear of government retaliation. "The people aren't going to back down," Claribel says. "If there hadn't been protests, we would still be without rice and chicken." When she heads out to demonstrate, she plans to bring her grandchildren. "They can't touch the children," she says.

The Home Doctor 💊🏥
The Home Doctor - Practical Medicine for Every Household - is a 304 page doctor written and approved guide on how to manage most health situations when help is not on the way.
Tumblr media
If you want to see what happens when things go south, all you have to do is look at Venezuela: no electricity, no running water, no law, no antibiotics, no painkillers, no anesthetics, no insulin or other important things.
But if you want to find out how you can still manage in a situation like this, you must also look to Venezuela and learn the ingenious ways they developed to cope.
About Dr. Maybell Nieves:
Dr. Maybell Nieves - head surgeon of the Unit of Breast Pathology and general surgeon at Caracas University Hospital in Venezuela, with over 10 years of experience in the operating room. She studied at the prestigious European Institute of Oncology in Milan, Italy.
Dr. Maybell is known for developing new, ingenious methods of treating patients after Venezuela's economy collapsed and hospitals and pharmacies ran out of medicines, supplies, electricity and running water.
The methods she developed and pioneered are now studied and applied in conflict zones all over the world.
Many of these protocols and procedures do not require medical assistance as they are specifically designed to be self-applied. That makes them extremely valuable if the medical system cannot be depended on, like during long term blackouts.
You can find some of these methods below! As you read them, you can easily understand why they are so useful and why every household and family should have them close by. She co-authored the book with Dr Rodrigo Alterio and Claude Davis.
How to Recognize a Heart Attack and What to Do Next
Tumblr media
Look at its four distinctive symptoms: first, chest discomfort that feels like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness, and pain in the middle of your chest that lasts for more than a few minutes.
The second symptom is discomfort or pain in one or both arms and your back, neck, jaw, or stomach. The third symptom is shortness of breath.
The last thing you need to watch out for is breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, and lightheadedness.
These don’t all come at once, but if you see even one or two, it’s time to call 911.
Another step you can take to improve your chances before the ambulance arrives is to chew on an aspirin and pour a vial of nitroglycerin under your tongue. But you need to have these two items at home beforehand.
،
A Simple “At-Home” Method for the Flu and Other Respiratory Issues

Tumblr media
You’ll also find out about some of the ingredients that you probably have in your kitchen right now, which, when mixed the right way, can help you fall asleep.
If you are taking sleeping pills from time to time, even melatonin, you should try to replace them with this recipe instead as it’s natural and completely safe.
Are Your Migraines Hiding Something More Serious?
Tumblr media
You'll discover which two types of migraines are most common and the simple but essential things you need to do to identify which one you have and how to get rid of it.

How to Know What’s Wrong if You’ve Got Abdominal Pain

Do you like living in Australia? How was living in Venezuela (if I’m getting that right)?
Been here for almost 15 years and am still barely used to the weather. The summers still get to me bcuz they r so dry ans i mean humans arent meant to survive 35 to 38 degrees celcius. Trust me 38 degrees its a crime and makes u wanna vomit just being in your own skin.
I like it here and i live in the most boring city in the country so its safe and quiet and everything is so far away but then again this state could fit my whole country in without a problem so its expected and you get used to travelling 1 hr to get fancy ice cream or just go anywhere. I only been to melbourne and sydney and they are nice cities but Adelaide is so much better even if its small and boring... at least the transport system makes sense and isnt overpriced like in sydney.
I think maybe in 10 yrs i could see myself moving to another state or overseas but who knows.
Venezuela was a bit of a blur i moved here after turning 15 but my memory its spotty but i remember it being a very beautiful and busy, i lived in Maracay so it was a big busy city, but i grew up during Chavez dictatorship...so i basically saw my country deteriorate as time went by and while i didnt want to come to australia and didnt understood why we were moving... i understood with due time as the economy did collapse after we left in 2010.
My family was lower middle class so we werent having a horrible time but not a great time either... i do remember the schedule and not schedule blackouts and my shower being occupied by massive water barrels holding our bathing water bcuz god knows when they were gonna cut the water and for how long, or my parent arguing about bills and money-- we always had food but luxuries and travelling were off the table. My dad had it hard as he grew up in the US so he moved to Venezuela back when it was booming and great, so he was eager to leave but not as much as my mom.
I do miss the food and the mountains...but specially the mountains and trees... SA its so flat.
Sometimes i do wonder what would have happened if we moved to Canada as it was intended or the US had my grandpa and my mum werent opposed to it... mom thought the US was ugly and unsafe which is funny considering she grew up in Petare and one of her cousins is/was a suspected serial killer.

Global banks defy U.S. crackdowns by serving oligarchs, criminals and terrorists - ICIJ
"money laundering crackdowns by moving staggering sums of illicit cash for shadowy characters and criminal networks that have spread chaos and undermined democracy around the world.
The records show that five global banks — JPMorgan, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank and Bank of New York Mellon — kept profiting from powerful and dangerous players even after U.S. authorities fined these financial institutions for earlier failures to stem flows of dirty money.
U.S. agencies responsible for enforcing money laundering laws rarely prosecute megabanks that break the law, and the actions authorities do take barely ripple the flood of plundered money that washes through the international financial system.
In some cases the banks kept moving illicit funds even after U.S. officials warned them they’d face criminal prosecutions if they didn’t stop doing business with mobsters, fraudsters or corrupt regimes.
JPMorgan, the largest bank based in the United States, moved money for people and companies tied to the massive looting of public funds in Malaysia, Venezuela and Ukraine, the leaked documents reveal.
The bank moved more than $1 billion for the fugitive financier behind Malaysia’s 1MDB scandal, the records show, and more than $2 million for a young energy mogul’s company that has been accused of cheating Venezuela’s government and helping cause electrical blackouts that crippled large parts of the country.
JPMorgan also processed more than $50 million in payments over a decade, the records show, for Paul Manafort, the former campaign manager for President Donald Trump. The bank shuttled at least $6.9 million in Manafort transactions in the 14 months after he resigned from the campaign amid a swirl of money laundering and corruption allegations spawning from his work with a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine.
Tainted transactions continued to surge through accounts at JPMorgan despite the bank’s promises to improve its money laundering controls as part of settlements it reached with U.S. authorities in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
In response to questions for this story, JPMorgan said it was legally prohibited from discussing clients or transactions. It said it has taken a “leadership role” in pursuing “proactive intelligence-led investigations” and developing “innovative techniques to help combat financial crime.”
HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Deutsche Bank and Bank of New York Mellon also continued to wave through suspect payments despite similar promises to government authorities, the secret documents show.
The leaked documents, known as the FinCEN Files, include more than 2,100 suspicious activity reports filed by banks and other financial firms with the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. The agency, known in shorthand as FinCEN, is an intelligence unit at the heart of the global system to fight money laundering.
BuzzFeed News obtained the records and shared them with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists. ICIJ organized a team of more than 400 journalists from 110 news organizations in 88 countries to investigate the world of banks and money laundering.
In all, an ICIJ analysis found, the documents identify more than $2 trillion in transactions between 1999 and 2017 that were flagged by financial institutions’ internal compliance officers as possible money laundering or other criminal activity — including $514 billion at JPMorgan and $1.3 trillion at Deutsche Bank.
Suspicious activity reports reflect the concerns of watchdogs within banks and are not necessarily evidence of criminal conduct or other wrongdoing.
Financial institutions have abandoned their roles as front-line defenses against money laundering.
– Paul Pelletier
Though a vast amount, the $2 trillion in suspicious transactions identified within this set of documents is just a drop in a far larger flood of dirty money gushing through banks around the world. The FinCEN Files represent less than 0.02% of the more than 12 million suspicious activity reports that financial institutions filed with FinCEN between 2011 and 2017.
FinCEN and its parent, the Treasury Department, did not answer a series of questions sent last month by ICIJ and its partners. FinCEN told BuzzFeed News that it does not comment on the “existence or non-existence” of specific suspicious activity reports, sometimes known as SARs. Days before the release of the investigation by ICIJ and its partners, FinCEN announced that it was seeking public comments on ways to improve the U.S.’s anti-money laundering system.
The cache of suspicious activity reports — along with hundreds of spreadsheets filled with names, dates and figures — flag bank clients in more than 170 countries and territories who were identified as being involved in potentially illicit transactions.
Along with sifting through the FinCEN Files, ICIJ and its media partners obtained more than 17,600 other records from insiders and whistleblowers, court files, freedom-of-information requests and other sources. The team interviewed hundreds of people, including financial crime experts, law enforcement officials and crime victims.
According to BuzzFeed News, some of the secret records were requested as part of U.S. congressional investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Others were gathered by FinCEN following requests from law enforcement agencies, BuzzFeed said..."
Tumblr media
The above graph on the article page is interactive. Republicans AND Progressives are currently attempting to blame the bank meltdowns on Biden and the FED. They all knew the banks have been under investigation for various activities since 2020. FinCen is the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.

Here's a thing from some Zionist blog, saying that if you ask the so called "pro-Hamas" people if they'd align with "Taliban, ISIS, Al Qaeda or Chinese government, or Russian government, or North Korea, or Erdogan, or Maduro" they would say No; but like, aside the fact of equating these widely different organizations, governments and people, I would kinda support Maduro, I'm not a big fan of his but I believe he's doing better than his opposition would; also I don't think China is worse than the USA, and in fact it's probably better; because the media blackout on North Korea I don't know what happens there, but I'm pretty sure it's also not worse than USA; and the terrorist organizations are terrorist organizations and not comparable with government the USA doesn't like, also all of them were created and trained by the CIA
Basically it's the same liberal bullshit, and I don't think this person could find Venezuela on a map
