Hello hello could you possibly write a Benny rodriguez thing where reader is considered odd and ppl spread runouts about them bc they don’t talk to no one and Benny has an awkward encounter with them but realizes they aren’t bad just shy so starts hanging around them more and then his friends find out and try telling him about the rumors but he defends them sorry it’s long 😭
But of course- sorry I didn’t get to this earlier, thanks for the request!
Benny Rodriguez x GN Reader - “Rumors”
Warnings: people spreading rumors, none beside that
-
Y/n L/n; quiet, distant, aloof.
Benny Rodriguez; athletic, funny, outgoing.
The saying “opposites attract” has been heard by most, but not necessarily believed by all.
In this case, the possibility of the slightest interactions between these two was limited.
Benny has heard, seen of their “odd behavior.” Living in a small town and yet not talking to anyone lead to rumors, whispers spreading around as to what was actually going on inside their head.
“I hear they once beat a kid so hard, his nose indented into his face”
“That’s not possible, man”
“Yknow one time I saw them talking to a tree… it was freaky, man”
“Y’think they’ve…?”
“I bet they…?”
“I once saw…”
They didn’t have to be original, that was the least of their problems. People believed it nonetheless.
Benny was one of them, admittedly. Today as he walks down the sidewalk, baseball mitt in hand and wearing his classic “babe Ruth” jersey, the boy makes his way towards the drug store under the promise of getting his friends some sodas.
The a/c welcomes him into the building, it had to be at least 80 something degrees. He takes the blue baseball cap off from his head, flapping it around in front of his face as he walks through the aisles, glass doors to the fridges at the very back of the store.
He looks down, rummaging through his pockets for the change he’d left in there.
“70,71…” he counts, shuffling through dimes and nickels as he turns the corner into the next aisle- the shadow of another figure catching his eyes.
“Aw man..”
Y/n stands in front of a freezer door, grabbing a box of popsicles from inside the cold shelves. They could feel someone staring at them, already having heard the sounds of change getting thrown around. Awkwardly, they turn their head to see who it’d been.
Benny, tensed up himself, notices how their body freezes upon seeing him. Their arm was still in the freezer, his own bent in front of him with the money. They stare at eachother in a painful silence for a minute, the otherwise social boy unsure what to say.
Should he even say anything at all? The chances they’d reply to him were slim, but he wasn’t sure how else to escape without seeming rude.
“Hey.”
That was a start.
The blunt greeting seemed to shake Y/n from their “caught in headlights” moment, as their eyes slowly relax again and their hand retracts from the freezer.
“Hi.” They reply, shutting the door and facing him- a much more welcoming response than Benny had anticipated.
He wasn’t entirely sure what opted him to continue that conversation, perhaps the curiosity he’d felt towards them after all the mean rumors had spread to him. Maybe he felt accomplished to get them to face him, a bit selfish but it had to be considered progress.
He looks over his shoulder to meet their eyes as he rummages through packs of cola, seeing their shy expression through the glass of the door.
“They’re always glaring at people too, sounds pretty mean to me…”
Benny narrows his eyes. This didn’t seem like a glare.
“It’s pretty hot out there, some popsicles are smart.” He says, nodding at the box held in their hands. They glance down at the colorful box, nodding.
“Yeah, I guess so.”
The short responses would’ve convinced others of the rumors, off to complain about how dry and distant they were. But Benny watched them shuffle closer to him every time he said something else, shoulders slowly dropping and knuckles regaining their color.
Anytime he threw another question their way, their voice became more clear and answers became longer.
“You staying inside today? It’s real nice outside.”
“Yeah, I guess so. Are you gonna go play baseball, with the others?”
He was surprised, unaware they paid enough attention to even know who “the others” were.
“Yeah, down at the sandlot.”
“That’s cool,”
He nods, smiling.
“I bet it’s cause their voice is all ugly and raspy- maybe that’s why”
“Maybe they just don’t have one at all.”
The conversation stretches out until the two find themselves walking down the sidewalk, now open box of popsicles in Y/n’s hands as they each enjoy the cold refresher. Benny holds the pack of soda by the handle, doing most of the talking as Y/n adds on shortly.
“You play any sports?”
“Not really, interesting to watch though”
“What about music- you’ve gotta like some band or something”
“I mean…”
He doesn’t even realize he’d walked the wrong way until they speak up again, claiming they’d reached their street.
He watches them walk up the steps to their door, and just as they go to open it they turn to him again.
“I’ll see you later, Benny” they say shyly with a small wave, turning around and disappearing into the house.
He stands there for a minute, staring at the door.
A moment later, a triumphant smile breaks out onto his face.
“Oh, man, I couldn’t have been more wrong…”
****
After Y/n and Benny split that faithful day in the heat, Benny wandered back to the Sandlot deep in thought. He had extra time, after going the opposite way from the store too caught up in conversation to have noticed a thing.
Y/n was sweet, a bit quiet, but they didn’t glare at him the way others had described.
Instead, they smiled at him. It was such a pretty smile, going to waste from lack of use.
Their voice wasn’t “ugly” either, he found himself drawn to it after going so long without it. There was such a contrast, he noticed, their comfortable and simple company compared to the roudy, chaotic company given by his friends.
Maybe that was why he walked himself to their door the next day, he was intrigued.
When Y/n opened the door and saw him smiling  widely, looking surprised yet also a bit relieved, they couldn’t help but smile as well.
It made him come back, reeling him in like a fish on a hook. He walked himself to their door again the next day.
And again.
And again.
And again.
Fast forward a month or so, Benny and the boys trudging down to the old dugout with sweat dripping off their forehead. There was once again a pack of cola waiting for them there, curtesy of Benny, not a second to waste before Squints and Ham are tearing into it.
The sweaty boys lounge around the hot, likely rotting old bench. Benny takes a swig of the sweet, icy cola and listens as conversation breaks out between the boys.
“Schools starting up in like 3 week…”
“Oh man, don’t even start with that…”
Benny tunes himself out of the conversation, leaning his head against a wooden post and closing his eyes as the heat consumes him.
“Oh yeah, let’s not forget Y/n!!”
“The old tree-witch?”
“Yeah yeah, be careful Bertram or they may put another spell on you-“
Benny’s eyes snap open, head whipping around at the laughing idiots.
The coke was just refreshing enough to recharge their shit-talk-drive, the target having switched from cranky-old Ms. Beverly to the teen which Benny had grown attatched to.
“What do you guys know, huh?” He glared, catching his friends attention. Yeah yeah looks at him confused.
“What do you mean, Benny man?”
He rolls his eyes. “Have you guys even talked to them? Like, an actual conversation?” He sasses, a short awkward laugh coming from Ham.
“Woah, dude, we’re just joking around-“
This further annoys the teen, clenching his fists out of annoyance at the immaturity of his friends.
“Man, don’t even.”
With that the boy stands up, bottle in hand as he drops his mitt onto the ground.
Kenny watches him stand up, shaking his head knowingly.
“You’re just upset cause we’re talking shit about your little ‘lover, huh Benny?” He calls out, Benny’s muscles tensing.
He looks over his shoulder, glaring at Kenny harshly. He wasn’t entirely sure how he could’ve known, though he wasn’t surprised that Kenny was the one out of them all to figure it out first.  Kenny hadn’t entirely meant for it to sound so douche-like, but it was too late as Benny yelled at him to shut his trap. The boy knew of the rumors as well, and wasn’t entirely sure how the kids who started them in the first place would react. He didn’t want Benny caught up in that, but hell the boy was stubborn.
The black-haired teen felt his friends all staring at him confused waiting for someone to elaborate. Neither did.
Behind Benny defensive and confused calls are thrown his way, him brushing them off and angrily taking another swig from the soda.
He grumbles to himself the whole way, angrily marching down streets until he’s on the familiar walkway up to Y/n’s porch, now empty bottle swinging from his hands.
A few loud knocks on the door, before their face pops up to let him in.
“Hey, I thought you were at baseball?” They ask curiously, stepping to the side.
He shrugs, brushing off the confused look on their face as he lets himself into the house.
“Eh, the guys were being idiots, I left a bit early.” He responds loosely, taking off the baseball cap and wiping spare sweat from his forehead. Y/n, albeit used to any rumors or whispers about them, didn’t need to know exactly what it was the other boys down at the sandlot had said.
After weeks of not hearing a word of their existence thought perhaps it had died down, the kids from school finding better things to do through the summer break to distract from the various storylines they’d created about Y/n in their head.
Though, maybe that was foolish. Kids were cruel, ignoring the truth any chance given.
Y/n takes a spot on the couch, watching Benny curiously as he approaches them. He brought his thoughts away from the topic, deciding to instead focus more on them.
He settles into the cushion beside them, resting his elbows onto his knees and turning his head towards them.
“Hey.”
They look at him for a moment.
“Hi.”

thats cool and all but are you currently cheering your highschool sweetheart benny rodriguez and his baseball team on during a game? i didnt think so
Tumblr media
𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐄𝐑𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐄𝐑 ; b. rodriguez x fem!reader
modern!au
summary : benny has a big game coming up, so of course you’re gonna be there to support him. Not just because you want to but because you’re head cheerleader
warnings: none but benny is 16 in this, fluff, some cursing
You took in a deep breath in you’re cheer uniform as you prepared yourself to chant the saying you practiced many times before.
“You don’t got no problems you just talk like you!”
standing in front of you as you waved your hands in the air, clapping my hands and stomping your feet to the rhythm in your head that you memorized as you continued the rest taking short pauses between each word was an amused Benny nodding his head following the rhythm you were keeping up.
“Let me show you that you don’t want no problems you just talk like you do! say it to my face and nuck if you buck come out from them bleachers so wassup get buck!”
after repeating the words and clapping your hands a final time Benny finally spoke up”that was amazing baby”he said happily but still sounding calm and cool like he always does. He stood up and wrapped his arms around your waist before leaning in for a kiss. ”I can’t wait to see you perform it at my big game tomorrow”you smiled at him and rested your hands on his chest. “But Benny I’m so nervous for tomorrow; what if I mess up?”
He frowned a little before pinching your cheek and smiling at you again. ”You’re gonna do great babe you always do”you laughed through your nose. “you flatter me Benny but I’m serious what if i mess it up, I missed 3 practices when I was sick remember?”. He frowned again. “cmon baby don’t be like that, you’re the best cheerleader I know you’re not gonna mess this up, just put your all into it and I know you’ll do great”. You smiled up at him”thanks Benny”
The game was after school and it was currently last period. (Y/n) was anxiously tapping her pencil and bouncing her leg up and down. She was already ready and in her cheer uniform as to save time and not rush to get ready for the game last minute. She glanced at her phone to check the time and seeing it was almost time to leave she got her stuff together. As the bell rang she rushed out the room and pushed through the crowd to get to the locker room to meet up with her friends.
As she arrived at the locker room and stuffed her bag into the tiny locker her friend approached her. “Do you have any lip gloss I can borrow? I forgot mine at home”. (Y/n) pulled out the tiny tube filled with gloss and handed it to her friend as she said a quick thanks before beginning to roll it onto her lips. (Y/n) broke the silence by speaking. ”are you nervous too?”. Her friend handed her back the gloss then replied with”totally, I feel like I’m gonna vom from how nervous I am”(Y/n) made a slight face of disgust. “I’m so nervous, especially since Benny’s gonna be watching”
“He always watches you cheer though, hell he plays on the fucking team and is arguably the best player on the team of course he’s gonna be there watching you”you stared at your friend blankly not seeing what she was getting at. She sighed before continuing. “What I’m saying is Benny is always there watching you cheer, whats different that you get nervous now?”. (Y/n) shrugged and leaned on the set of lockers across from where hers was and thought about how she was going to respond. “I don’t know I guess I just don’t wanna mess this up and embarrass myself or Benny”
Her friend nodded her head. “You’re not gonna mess up though. That’s why you’re head cheerleader, remember? You’re the best this shitty school could find”. You smiled and laughed lightly before looking down and fidgeting with your skirt. “Thanks”She smiled at you before changing the subject. “Let’s go before coach starts bitching at us for being late” she said before making her way out of the locker room and to the field as you followed behind her
As you and your friend were making you’re way to the field you saw the baseball team in their positions before the game including Benny. You smiled and blew a kiss at him which he returned by catching it. You made your way to where the rest of the cheerleaders were, fixed into neat rows separating them by jv and varsity. “Ready girls?”your coach yelled and looking at you signaling for you to start.
“You don’t got no problems you just talk like you!”starting off the chant while you yelled out while waving your hands then clapping your hands. “Let me show you that you don’t got no problems you just talk like you do! Say it to my face and nuck if you buck come out from them bleachers so wassup get buck!”the team all yelled while stomping their feet and clapping their hands in unison. After repeating the chant a couple times it ends with the crowd clapping and Benny sending you a thumps up.
You smiled looking at Benny in excitement. It was all up to Benny to win since the game was tied. Benny took a quick glance at you, winked, then looked back at the pitcher. The sun was blazing and you could see sweat starting to build up under Benny’s helmet. He adjusted his stance on home base, making sure his grip on the bat was tight. Then the pitcher made his move, and there he was, swinging his bat with all his might.
"cmon Benny run!!"
He was running faster than you’ve ever seen him. You could tell he really enjoyed baseball and this is where he belonged and wanted to be for the rest of his days, on the diamond. You could see the other team scramble for the ball, Benny’s own teammates cheering as he rounded the bases easily. One of the outfielders tried to throw the ball to a boy on third base, but it didn’t show that it phased Benny. Suddenly he had an explosion of speed, and slid onto home base just in time. His teammates erupted into cheers as the game ended. He took off his helmet and quickly talked to his teammates before he ran over to you, picking you up and twirling you around. “You did it Benny you won!”you smiled brightly looking down at him.
He set you down and kissed you gently, holding your face. “You did great with your cheer too. I told you you could do it”you laughed. “I have to go get my stuff and I know you do too. I’ll wait for you because I know you take longer”he looked down in slight embarrassment but laughed about it anyway. “Alright baby I’ll see you and we can go get something to eat to celebrate”he said kissing your cheek before running inside the school to the locker rooms. You stood there silently looking at Benny run away in admiration. Benny was the sweetest guy you knew and you plan to marry him at some point and grow old with him. After a while you went to the locker room and got your bag from your locker before going outside to meet your boyfriend.
You stood outside by the doors for only a little bit before Benny walked up beside you telling you he was ready to leave and starting walking hand in hand. “Where do you wanna go to eat”you looked over at him to see him looking down at his feet while kicking a rock. “I don’t know baby why don’t you choose?”he looked up at you squinting his eyes due to the sun shining down on them. “No you choose today because you won your big game”you frowned slightly at him before he sighed slightly and looked back down at his feet finding a new rock to kick. “why don’t we just go to a gas station and get some slushies and horrible microwaved burritos?”you smiled brightly at him. “I’d really like that”

Benny Rodriguez x fem!reader
𝐁𝐘 𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐋
It was a hot day and you and your four friends Tay, Fay Fay , Coast, and Jezz had decided to go to the pool and do a little sun bathing. When you arrived you all placed your towels down and lay back. Your friends let out a sigh of relief as you closed your eyes.
Suddenly you heard a loud group of boys running towards the pool before jumping in causing a huge splash of water to fly over your group. “UGH!” Jezz yelled you removed your sun glasses ready to fuck up whoever it was causing such a ruckus for you guys.
When you caught a glimpse of Benny Rodriguez you froze. You’ve seen him and his friends around in their jeans and flannels, you always thought he was cute and gained a little crush on him.
“I can’t stand you lot, always causing trouble for the kids around ya!” Jezz yelled at them wet hair sliding over her face.
A fairly chubby boy with a lot of freckles on his face made a comment under his breathe but she heard it, “what the hell you say?” She sneered. You giggled to yourself, when you felt small hands shove you forward and into the pool.
“AH!” You let out a short lived scream before you hit the water clinging to the closest thing in reach which was Bennys arm. Your friends shoved squints into the pool, when you pulled your head from under water you wrapped your arms around Benny’s neck.
“Woah, woah calm down” he chuckled guiding you over to the rim of the pool and sitting you on the edge or the pool. “You okay?” He asked tilting his head a bit you nodded, “you can’t swim or something?” He grinned.
You giggled but shook you head causing his friends to let out barking laughs your friends jumped in after them chasing them the best they could in water leaving the two of you alone on the edge of the pool wall.
“Well, I’m Benjamin Rodriguez, but everyone calls me Benny. And that’s ham the rest of them might run off later on so no point in tryna help you remember their names.” You smile, nodded and gave him your name. “That’s a pretty name, isn’t it?” He teased laughing when he saw the smile you let out, “well thank you Benny, you’re a real doll aren’t ya.” You complimented putting your finger under this chin and raising his head to meet your eyes.
He flashed a pearly white smile and tilted your head to where the golden sun caught your eyes, you saw a light tint of red burn it’s way on his cheeks as you lent down he gently closed his eyes and rose up to accept your kiss when s pound of water caught you off guard and pulled you away inches from him.
“BENNY GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE AND SHOW THESE SISSIES WHOS BOSS!” Ham yelled trying to hold Jezz in a head lock, Benny looked back over to you and pulled you to a slightly shallower end with the group. As you inched over to watch Tay and fay Fay basically drown Benny and his Ham as he released Jezz from his freckly hold.
“I saw you over there with the Rodriguez kid.” Coast said leaning over to your ear, “Gotta admit I really thought you would’ve kissed him those damn boys, always causing a ruckus without even realizing.” You let out a breathy laugh and watched the three girls gang up on freckles and Benny the rest of his group had swam off to bother some other kids on the other side of the pool.
“Now who’s the sissies, huh?” Jezz grinned holding ham in a head lock once in a minute dunking his head fully into the water, “okay imma go release her hold before she kills the poor kid!” Coast said pushing off the wall the two of you were resting against, you watched with mild amazement had Jezz held a vice like grip to the boys head.
“Strong girl.” Benny said causing you to flinch you didn’t realize he was right there, “hell yeah, she’s always been that way, coast is always the best at prying her off!” You chirped “sweet” he mumbled glancing over at you.
You all stayed in the pool until 30 minutes till closing was when you all decided to dry off and prepare to leave. Fay Fay and Tae were joking around tripping each other up while Coast was keeping Jezz from killing ham and you were hanging back with Benny talking amongst yourselves.
“It was real sweet of you helping me when squints pushed me in, ya know..” you said swaying from side to side looking at the ground, “it was nothin, I could teach ya how to swim if ya wanna!” He smiled running his hand through his wet hair. “I would like that a lot, thanks.”
You friends were walking a head of you two laughing and yelling at each other, Benny quietly wrapped his arm around your shoulders pulling you closer to him. You couldn’t help but giggle at this as you pushed closer against his hip, when the intercept for your street and his came up your friends said their goodbyes and continued walking slowly waiting for you.
“This is me, cya around Benny….” You said pulling yourself away him, “yeah, cya around.” When you turned to walk away you felt him grab you wrist and turn you back around his face was bright red and his nose was scrunched up.
He quickly pulled you into a kiss not letting it linger to long before he pulled away and ran down his street leaving you there shocked, you could hear you friends behind you “ooooohhhhh!!” As they hastily pulled you toward home ready to spend the whole night talking about your new “boyfriend” as they called him.
As you all ran down the street you couldn’t help but let a giddy smile cross your lips and giggle, you couldn’t wait will tomorrow.

Benny Rodriguez x Reader Pt 1.
Tumblr media
Lil intro: Hi, my name is Y/N McClennan, I'm the older sister of Alan McClennan, but everyone calls him YeahYeah. I am 17 years old, a junior, and I have the best boyfriend ever, Phillips.  I love baseball. I used to play at the Sandlot with the boys, but when I started dating Phillips, the boys got really pissed at me. It's been about a year since I've touched a baseball or even talked to my old friends, which was when I started dating Phillips. This has been incredibly hard since the boys have been my best friends for as long as I can remember. However, the only thing  I can really do about it now is to accept the fact that I broke their trust. Especially Benny's.
Actual Story: Y/N's POV
I was incredibly excited for today. It was finally the official last day of my junior year. After a long and anticipated wait, school just got out, and now it's time for one of my last summers in the San Fernando Valley.
Of course, as part of my everyday routine, I walked up to Phillips's locker. "Hey," I said.
"Hey, baby," Phillips replied as he kissed my cheek. He grabbed my hand, and I gladly took it, but out of the corner of my eye, I noticed something unusual. Benny was looking at us, and it was clear he wasn't too thrilled.
This made me a little upset and curious because Benny and I were best friends for almost as long as I can remember. The day that our friendship ended was the day that I told him I started dating Phillips, which will be a year in two days. Everyone except Scotty and my brother rebelled to get me off their team, and we haven't talked since.
I still remember how he looked when I told him. He didn't look pissed off, he just looked sad and disappointed. The pain in his eyes, the betrayal. I understand that he and Phillips don't get along, but as my best friend, I was hoping he would have been supportive. I didn't realize I was thinking so much until Phillips cut me off.
"You okay babe?" Phillips asked.
"Yeah, of course, I'm fine," I replied with a slight smile.
He turned around, clearly knowing I was lying. Benny was still looking at us. "You're looking at Rodriguez?" Phillips asked.
"Oh, um yeah. I just wanted to make sure he saw this," I said as I passionately kissed Phillips. I don't even know why I did this. I would've liked to have mended my relationship with Benny, but this just shows that I don't care. How could I be so fucking stupid?
We pulled away when we heard a locker door and a door slam. I looked at where Benny was standing. He was gone. I could tell he was infuriated. I could kind of feel his pain in a way. It was obvious Benny was irritated when he saw us before I made the rash decision of kissing Phillips in front of him. I should have just left it at that.
In all honesty, I've always had a little crush on Benny. The way he is so passionate about baseball, it's pretty hot. Once Benny and I talked about the future, and what we wanted. He made it very clear that he did not have time for a relationship, nor did he want one. I knew at that moment I had to move on. So, I went with someone who had put in the effort of trying to impress me and decided to give him a chance.
I love Phillips, I mean, he's great, and we're super happy, but sometimes I wonder how happy I would be with Benny. I really miss him. After all, he was my best friend. I'm going to talk to Yeah-Yeah when I get home to see if the boys would let me back on the team. They really were the best and most loyal friends a girl could have. And what did I do? I started dating their enemy. Like who does that? Thinking about it now, I see why they kicked me off the team, and I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want to be friends again.
After thinking, Phillips and I start walking to his house. It's only a couple of blocks, so we don't feel the need to drive. It's nice walking with him. It's giving me time to clear my head and push out any doubts that I have.
Phillips then breaks the silence, "Y/N, are you okay? You've been acting weird since we saw Rodriguez." I sigh and reply, "I don't know. I just really miss my friends. I love you, and you know that, but I just wish they would get over it." Phillips responds, "I know you miss them. You also need to understand that, besides Rodriguez, there's an age difference there. They're only 14 and 15. Them being like this is somewhat valid, they're supposed to be immature, you know? Rodriguez, on the other hand, that's just immature." I don't say anything; I just give him a peck on the cheek and smile. We look up to see that we're standing outside his house. We go in, start watching movies, and cuddle.
After we get done hanging out at his house, I kiss Phillips goodbye, get in my car that I drove over to his house before school, and drive home. I start bawling in the car. Phillips made a lot of sense, but it doesn't hurt any less. I reach my driveway, park my car, and then head inside my house. I walk to Yeah-Yeah's room to go talk to him and see how the boys are doing. Once I get to his room, he's not in there. I guess he's still out with them. I then walk to my room and try to go to sleep in order to prevent myself from crying again.
After struggling to fall asleep for a few hours, I left my bedroom. I look in Yeah-Yeah's room to see if he's home. He's passed out cold. I have no one to talk to currently, so I  walk to the one place I can fully clear my thoughts.
Lmk if y’all want part 2!! <3

It was a normal Wednesday afternoon. The sun was blazing, the boys were playing ball and I was sitting off to the side, drawing in my sketchbook. It was something I do every time they play ball since I am the most unathletic person, and I would rather spend my time doodling anyway.
Today, Benny decided to teach the rest of the boys how to swing, and they were doing pretty well. Ham almost hit over the fence, Yeah Yeah, Squints and Timmy hit it past the bases and now Smalls was up.
I was working on some shading for the piece when I heard the crack of the bat. Just as I look up, I see the ball heading straight at me.
I ducked to the side just in time to dodge the foul ball before it hit me in the face. I looked around at everyone’s faces, all of which were grimaces while Smalls tried to hide behind the bat handle. I let out a loud exhale as I stood up and dusted the dirt from my jeans.
“I thought we agreed to not kill me this summer, boys,” I said sarcastically, crossing my arms before walking up to Smalls and taking the bat from him. “You’re done.”
“I think that’s a good place to end today,” Benny said, causing all of the guys to groan in disappointment as they left the lot. Once they rounded the corner and were out of sight, Benny leaned over to wrap his arm around my shoulder as he pulled me into his side. “That was a nice dodge you did.”
“Well, thank you. I learned from almost getting hit by your foul balls a hundred gazillion times,” I joked, playing with his hand that hung from my shoulders.
“I bet you could do better than them,” Benny joked. “I’ll teach you the basics?”
“I don’t know,” I dragged out, “I don’t think your dodging skills are as good as mine.”
“Oh, you completely missed Ham’s line drive straight to my head,” He laughed.
“Oh no! Not your pretty face!”

soft kisses were pressed against the back of your neck, and an arm was wrapped around your waist lovingly. benny nestled himself closely to you, humming the song “puppy love” into your nape. his breath tickled your neck.    you almost giggled at the moment. had you not been pretending to be asleep, you’d be peppering kisses all over benny’s face. he noticed your subtle change in breathing. and despite you being faced away from him, benny could see the way you smiled. you snapped your eyes shut once you felt him grasping your hand. silently grinning at his touch.    “are you awake, (y/n)?” benny laid kisses upon your palm.    “darling-sweetie-pie-sugar-poo-bear?” he laughed lightly as he intertwined your fingers with his. how could you ignore such an endearment? happily, you turned over, his hand never leaving yours.    “i’m awake, benny.” you chuckled. a smile spread across his face. he looked adorable.    “why’d you stop humming? i love that song.” you rested your forehead on his.     “although, i didn’t know you liked it too.”    “i guess you can say you’ve got an effect on me.” he replied, rubbing his nose against yours. it was terribly hard to resist kissing him. so you didn’t. benny was caught by surprise as you pressed several kisses upon his face. then finally, one on his lips.
“you’re incredibly cute, did you know that?”
“no, you just happen to mention it everyday.”
   “thought so.”

Call Me A Snitch - Benny Rodriguez/The Sandlot x GN Reader
“Could it be something like benny rodriguez x gn!reader and its they are on philips team and playing against the sandlot boys and the philips convinces the reader to cheat by using like this sticky rosin stuff…”
Here we go @yourgirljen4life - hope you enjoy and I hope this is what you were looking for
[mind you I don’t know a lot about rosin or anything- also Phillips doesn’t have a listed full name, so I used the actors first name.]
CW: slightly rushed I haven’t written in a hot minute, not heavy on any relationships, Wil Phillips
Benny Rodriguez x GN!Tiger’s player Reader
x
It’s the middle of the day, sun hot and sticky beating down on the trees and dirt that cover the ground, temperature at least 80 degrees, when I realize I should’ve stayed home.
I used to say I’d never miss a good game of baseball, especially not with someone as invested as Benny Rodriguez or Wil Phillips. But then again, I’ve never played such an un-fun one in my life. Which is actually pretty impressive.
The ball swings across the field as Benny’s team hits it spot on again, and I see as our outfielder scurries to get it. I can’t remember who’s out there, probably Eric. Guess that wasn’t a great idea. Bertram, looking accomplished, smoothly jogs across the base.
They’re getting real cocky, now. It’s funny, I think, I’d crack a grin when I hear Ham’s next remark but with the vein nearly popping out of Phillips’ forehead I decide to bite it back.
“How are we doing so shit?” I hear him ask, but I don’t think he wants a real answer. The expensive jerseys can only cover so much, an idea he seems very much unaware of.
I look down at my wrinkled jersey, the white fabric tinted with dirt after I took a dive for home base in the last inning. I dust some of it off, hearing another crack of the wooden bat across the way. To follow, a curse mumbled from Phillips lips.
I sigh slightly, and glance back at the score board. We’re down by 2, which isn’t horrible, but I know we’d all prefer not being down at all. My cleats scuff against the sand as I stand up from our bench, and stand next to the blonde boy. His gaze is strong and fixed on the new batter, Benny.
‘Oh boy.’
Droplets of sweat trickle down his forehead, over his nose, and he stares intently at our pitcher. He’s in jeans in a t-shirt, to no one’s surprise, and I look over him as he gets into position. His eyes narrow, blocking the sun the best they can.
From the dugout, I watch with crossed arms. I still remember the first game against the sandlot boys- when Phillips tried to stand off on their own field. I think that’s when I first realized, baseball would be a lot more fun if there weren’t the pressure of winning constantly on my shoulders.
He’s so focused, swaying the bat over his shoulder and adjusting his feet across home base. Beside me, Phillips’ scoffs, I can basically hear how his teeth clench in his jaw.
Benny hits it mere feet away from the fence, our outfielder sprinting for it and suddenly Phillips’ hand grabs a firm hold on my shoulder, snatching my thoughts from the game.
“This is bullshit,” he complains, and uses the grip on my shoulder to turn me towards the bench behind us, “come on.”
My arms remain crossed even as he tugs me towards his bag, and he leans down to grab something from inside. Red flag, I think, he’s up to something.
“You’re up next,” when he comes back up, he’s holding a small tub in his hand, “use this.”
I look down at the tub in his hands, and skim over the word “Rosin” bolded on the lid.
He’s gotta be kidding.
I glance up at him, he’s looking at me expectantly, as if I’m supposed to immediately understand. When I don’t enthusiastically go along with it, he rattles his hand impatiently.
“No.” I tell him, and he groans.
“Y/n come on-“ he whines, “we’ve gotta get a leg up.”
“This is pathetic, Phillips.”
He groans again, dramatically throwing his head back, and I feel his fingers tightening against the bone of my shoulder.
“Dude- it’s not a big deal, just do it so we don’t lose against these…” he looks back to the field, where Benny has already made it to 2nd base and players from our team and his are spread across the dirt and grass. Ham chuckles smugly, rolling up to base, and immediately just from one look at the field Phillips’ face scrunches into one of disgust.
“…losers.”
He finishes, I scoff.
“Dude.”
He doesn’t listen to my protest at all, instead shoving the tub of rosin into my hand. Tan fingers slip away from my shoulder, finally, and he reaches back into his bag and pulls out another baseball, placing it into my free hand.
“Do it, or I swear to god L/n.”  He looks at me like he’s giving a threat, which he is, but it’s not a strong one. I sigh, and he steps away from me back to the edge of the dugout to watch the game. I’m left alone by the cluttered bench.
Looking down at the ball and the tub, I sigh once more. But nonetheless, I unscrew the tub.
It’s a bad idea, pathetic as I said, I should’ve known the second we went down a point Phillips would resort to a cheat.
.
But hey, it worked.
My fingers are still sticky with rosin as the game ends- the scoreboard has changed, now in our favor with 3 points above the sandlot group.
Curses echo from them as ham kicks the dirt below his feet, and I watch as Benny throws his hat to the ground in a fit. It clashes well with the smug cheers from my team- but at the sight of the others so defeated, I feel guilty.
“Told you.” Phillips’ smirks into my ear, patting my shoulder much harder than needed before strutting off with the rest of the team. I dont join him, though.
It wasn’t our win to get.
“Some pop and fries at the diner sound good to you guys?” Phillips asks, raising his voice knowing the sandlot boys will hear him across the dugout. Of course he needs to rub it in, sometimes i think he’s a better actor than he is a baseball player.
As my team saunters off, I listen in on the grumbles from Benny’s team.
“Damn tigers…” ham mumbles, glaring at the ground.
“Yeah yeah- we had ‘em in the first half too. Like, what the hell?”
With all the mumbling, Benny shakes his head with a glare. I can tell by the clench of his fist he’s frustrated, he turns around to his friends.
“Just shut up about it guys- we lost, it’s whatever.” His voice contradicts him easily, but it quiets his friends grumbling a fair amount. He spins back around, about to match off to their dugout, and last second my mouth opens.
“Wait!”
They all turn around, faces still dark as ever when they see me approaching them, trying to catch up with a light jog. I don’t know why I’m doing this, I’ve never been much more than acquaintances with them, but it’s obvious they’re better friends than my team will ever get to be. Maybe that’s what motivates me to continue.
“Hold on, it’s,” I pause, breathing out and coming to a stop right in front of them, “hold on.”
“What do you want?” Squints obnoxiously adjusts his glasses at me. The only ones not glaring me down seem to be Smalls and the twins. Though, when i catch Benny’s eyes again there isn’t any anger directed at me behind his gaze.
“I,” I glance behind me, my team is gone, and I turn back with a hesitant look, “you didn’t lose.”
This seems to confuse them, Bertram scoffs.
“Right, funny.” He says bitterly.
“Yeah yeah, hilarious.” Yeah yeah pipes up, but Squints holds up a finger to both of them, staring at me with vague interest.
Benny is lost, closing his eyes in thought.
“What are you talking about?”
“You didn’t technically lose,” I rephrase, “not legally, I mean.”
When they’re about to question me further, I look down at my hand and squeeze my fingers, the rosin sticking to my skin. They catch on quickly, by the time I look back up squints has already marched over to me.
“What’s this?” He questions, grabbing my hand and examining the skin. I awkwardly watch on as he recognizes the sticky shit on my hand, glaring at me in disbelief. Spinning around to the others, he grabs my wrist.
“They used sticky rosin!” He exclaims, holding up my hand for the others like a clue. His friend’s eyes widen, and I take my hand back to quickly explain.
“They cheated?” Smalls let the question sit in the air, because no one really answered him.
“It was Phillips’ idea,” none of them are surprised, as Benny mutters with rolling eyes, “he got pressed when you started winning, he’d kept some in his bag.”
Groans rumble from the group, I notice as Benny pulls off his hat once more, leaving his sweaty hair to the breeze.
“I mean- are we surprised?” His voice is thick in sarcasm, standing out over the grumbles from Ham and Yeah Yeah.
“No- of course that blonde Bambi would cheat, pussy move.” Bertram curses, and despite their glares I feel a grin form at the words “blonde Bambi.”
“Sorry- I should’ve told him to quit, but…”
The hot sun is baking my skin, the baseball cap sitting on my head only giving so much.
“So why didn’t you?” Ham quips- I almost bite my tongue, but Benny whacks him with his hat.
“Shut up,” he clicks his tongue, before his gaze returns to me, and I’m not really sure what to do with it. “Thanks for uh- for telling us.” He gives the slightest hint at a smile, his teeth sticking through his lips. I smile back at him, the guilt from before falling further into the back of my mind.
“Yeah- I mean,” I dip my head, “you guys were having a lot more fun out there than I’ve had in a minute.”
Smalls furrows his eyebrows. “Then you should play with us!”
Everyone turns to look at him.
I’m surprised by his offer, though not at the many, many quips thrown his way afterwards. I’ve never thought about it, never having been invited before, but now that the idea is fresh in front of me I consider it.
“That’s not a bad idea,” Benny jumps in- and that’s what really surprises me.
“For real?” I ask, and Benny steps forward, blocking off the rest of the boys from giving their loud input. Face to face, I finally notice more of his grin.
“Yeah- might be fun, plus, would drive Phillips crazy.”
I grin.
He holds out a hand to me, and I have to remember to switch to the not sticky one to return the gesture.
“We’ll play tomorrow- the sandlot at noon. If you’re in, join us.”
His hold is firm, yet his hands are softer than I think I expected.  Despite the blisters that cross his palm, his touch is warm. I look up at him through the shade of my hat. For a second, he looks hopeful. And after a moment of thinking, pushing away the migraine for Phillips to face the second he finds out, I nod.
“I’ll be there.”
He’s the last the leave as the others walk away, Smalls walking by his side at the back of the group as Benny throws me one last shiny grin.
Not as uninteresting as I thought it would be anymore- I walk home with the Tiger’s jersey now in lost value on my shoulders.

Nice to meet you too...
Tumblr media
It's been about a year since you moved to this new place. San Fernando Valley. California.
In the time you had been here, you hadn't put any effort into making friends. The kids at school found you odd, even your fellow baseball team members. This was due to how quiet you were. However, you were still known around the school for one thing.
Baseball, that was your sport, the one thing you were recognized for at school and at home. Some kids even go as far as saying you were as good as Benjamin, or Benny, Rodriguez.
Benny was well-known for defeating ‘the beast' about a month before your arrival. Of course, you quickly found out that Hercules was actually a big sweetheart. But, nonetheless, people would compare you and Benny. You had never officially met him, only seen him in the hallways at school and during baseball matches between your team and his.
The Sandlot gang were the best team in the town! So it wasn't much of a surprise when your team lost against his team. Though, you rarely got to play when the match was against the Sandlot gang.
Phillips, your team captain, had always been a sleazeball when it came to you. He didn't like you that much due to the fact you were a good player, better than he. It was why he kept you off the plate so often. He didn't want you, some country kid, stealing his supposed spotlight.
Today was another match against the sandlot gang, one sparked from Phillips being arrogant. He frustrated you beyond belief.
“Phillips, why do you keep doing this? You continuously brag about our team being the best team in the state, and you pick fights with those sandlot kids, yet we always lose against them. C’mon man, it's embarrassing at this point. Just admit those guys are better than us!”
Phillips glares at you and tossed a bat to you, which you caught.
“If you think they're so much better, why don't you go join them? You'd fit right in, you're a baseball reject, just like them!”
You scoffed and took off your jersey, thankfully you hadn't changed into the uniform completely, just the jersey.
“Fine. Maybe I will Phillips. ‘m tired of your crap anyways.”
You shove the jersey into his hands and storm off. The game hadn't even begun and you had already quit. Thankfully, the opposing team wasn't there yet.
As you were storming off the field, you bump into somebody, causing the person you ran into to fall down.
“Jeez, watch where you're going!”
You were going to lash out at the person who said that but noticed it was someone familiar. Benjamin “The Jet” Rodriguez. You sigh and help him up.
“My bad man. Didn't see you.”
Benny swats some dust off his shirt and he nods.
“It's fine, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude. Just a bit annoyed right now. It's the third time this week that Phillips has challenged us to match. Anyways, you're that new kid right? You're (Name) aren't you?”
He eyes you up and down before nodding.
“Well, the names Benny. Nice to finally meet you man.”
You nod, shifting a bit.
“Yeah, nice to meet you too…”
| I apologize if this is bad, I've never really written for other people before. Anyways, criticism is welcome!

Benny Rodriguez x Reader Pt 5
Tumblr media
Y/N POV
Playing with the guys again felt so right. I feel like I am home. A euphoric feeling is spreading throughout my entire body. As I ran across the field, swinging the bat and catching the ball, I couldn't help but smile. The Sandlot had always been my safe haven, where I felt I truly belonged. Being back on the team, surrounded by old friends, felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders.
Benny's presence next to me was a constant reminder of the pain he put me through. Although we had agreed to start as friends again, I couldn't deny my lingering feelings for him. But for now, I focused on rebuilding the bond with the boys and proving myself on the field.
The sun beat down on us, and laughter and cheers filled the air as we played game after game. It was like the troubles and worries of the outside world had disappeared, and we were just a group of kids enjoying the pure joy of baseball. As the day wore on, I couldn't help but notice Benny stealing glances at me from time to time. His eyes had a mix of longing and regret, and it made my heart ache. I wanted to tell him that I still cared, that maybe there was a chance for us beyond friendship. But for now, it was enough to have him as a friend again.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow over the Sandlot, we gathered together for a final inning. Benny and I stood side by side, ready to take on any challenge that came our way. The boys, once skeptical of my return, had now fully accepted me back into the fold.
As I stepped up to the plate, I could feel their support and encouragement. The sound of the ball hitting the bat echoed through the air as I swung with all my might. The ball soared through the sky, and the boys cheered as it sailed over the fence, disappearing into the distance.
It was a home run, and the victory was not just mine but a victory for all of us. We had overcome obstacles, repaired friendships, and rediscovered the true spirit of the Sandlot. Together, we were unstoppable.
As the day came to an end, we gathered our gear and said our goodbyes. Benny walked me home, and we talked about everything and nothing at all. The tension between us had eased, and it felt comfortable and familiar, like slipping into a well-worn glove.
At my front door, we stood face to face, a mix of emotions swirling between us. Benny reached out and took my hand in his, a gentle smile on his lips.
"Thank you for giving me a second chance, Y/N," he said softly. "I can't change the past, but I promise to make it up to you."
I looked into his eyes, seeing the sincerity and determination within them. "I believe you, Benny," I replied, fully meaning it and feeling a flicker of hope ignited within me.
With a final squeeze of my hand, Benny told me goodnight, leaving me standing on the porch with a heart full of possibilities. As I watched him walk away, I knew that the Sandlot had brought us back together for a reason, and I was excited to see where our journey would lead.
As I closed the door behind me, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the Sandlot, a place where friendships were forged, dreams were pursued, and where love had a chance to bloom. The Sandlot had given me a second chance, and I was determined to make the most of it.
A/N: super short chapter, but lmk if you want me to keep updating this story!

I was new to the neighborhood. My parents decided to move us right at the start of summer break, so I knew practically no one. The only person I knew was my next door neighbor, Benny. We met when I was waiting for the moving truck, and I was throwing around an old baseball I found on the side of the road. From then on, he said he would teach me how to play.
After a couple of days just catching between the two of us, he decided to where his friends would play ball. Turns out, they have a sandlot with a baseball diamond, and he wanted to teach me how to hit the ball now.
“Okay, please don’t hit like a girl,” he laughed in a teasing manner.
“Oh just hand me the bat before I hurt you,” I laughed back, moving to grab the bad from his hands. “Alright, what do I do?”
“What you’re gonna do is put your hands like this,” he paused, coming to stand behind me and moved my non-dominant hand to the bottom of the bat and my dominant hand just above that. “Try a couple swings. See how it feels.” I go to swing when I heard someone else coming up behind us.
“Benny, since when did you bring newcomers here?”
“I’ll bash this bat right into your face if you say anything else,” I threatened.
