The only love interest of Buck's since Abby that has been developed enough to have me actually invested in was Taylor, specifically the Taylor of s4.
Now I think I'm in the minority on this, but I've always thought Taylor was an extremely compelling character - even if s5 ruined her and Buck's relationships for me. If they'd kept her on her growth path they set her on in s4 that relationship could have become something.
None of Buck's other love interests were as established as Taylor was. If they have a connection to the other characters, that connection isn't highlighted. His other love interest haven't bought in to Buck's shenanigans the way Taylor did in season 4. His other love interest don't have the depth or development that Taylor did.
Taylor who called Buck asking for a miracle in Breaking Point because there were vaccines that were going to go to waste if they weren't used. She called him after Buck essentially tricked her into a double date with Veronica and Albert. Whose feelings Buck hurt and she still called him back because she knows that isn't who Buck is - she knows he's good and would be there to help when she called.
Taylor who teamed up with Buck to try to find out who ran Sue over in the parking lot. Who was willing to go dumpster diving to get to the truth. Who showed up at Buck's loft after the guy was caught, not to celebrate her career getting a boost, but to celebrate justice.
Taylor who Buck teamed up with during Treasure Hunt. Who was as into the treasure hunt as Buck was. Who didn't mind that Buck invited Eddie along because she knows they're in each other's pockets. Who Buck goofed around with.
Taylor who showed up at the hospital, not as a reporter but as a friend, when she heard a firefighter had been shot. Who helped Buck calm down enough to go talk to Christopher. Who yelled at Buck for being reckless when he climbed up the crane. Who came to Eddie's welcome home party.
In my opinion, Season 4 Taylor is Buck's most interesting love interest. They made her likeable while keeping her complexities and flaws. They made her Buck's friend first and foremost. They made that friendship something that could be the foundation for a relationship.
Season 5 undid most of Taylor's growth and showed the audience that maybe they weren't so compatible after all (Buck kissing Lucy, Taylor not telling Buck about her past until she had no other choice, Buck asking her to move in out of guilt, Taylor reporting on Jonah even after she said she wouldn't), but season 4 Taylor? That was a love interest for Buck that had potential because we saw her growth from s2 to s4 and we saw her and Buck's chemistry transition from just sexual to friendship to more.
If the show wants us to get invested in a love interest for Buck, they need to take the time to show us why that character is someone we should want for Buck. They can't just tell the audience things and expect us to accept it at face value, that isn't interesting. We need to see that character and Buck function as a couple on screen for more than a few minutes. They need to flesh out a love interest so they aren't just a love interest.

finarfin/earwen and finwe/miriel
thank you @that-angry-noldo! ohh these are good ones hehehe
finarfin/earwen
what's not to love? they chose each other and made their family a refuge from royal duties, and it was torn apart. finarfin chose his brothers. i want them to get back together. finarfin chose his people. i want earwen to make the vr powerful political move never to separate and BE the queen of the noldor, bitches, just when the noldor are unraveling. hell yeah. finarfin chose, and unchose, and turned back. he chose HER and not their children, and which one is harder to forgive? how secretly proud is earwen that she owns him so thoroughly?
i want them to have many more kids actually it would a very funny and traumatic rebound. and the sacrifice of familial comfort for multicultural commitment and diplomacy is sexy. and only THEN do they get back together for reals for reals in the scant privacy of their life. but like. earwen gets that crown. outside to everyone's eyes they are a united front but in private (for centuries!) it is colder than the ice. it is separate rooms and legal precision over breakfast. but he chose her. he chose her. not their children not his people not his longing for the sea and the possibility of ever ever ever living outside his father's city and his brother's shadow and making a new kingdom for himself. insane.
they are insanely in love throughout everything btw. i mean outright mutual obsession. it never wanes even when it veers to resentment. they are each other's most passionate interest always always. but they are not real people anymore not since first the crowns touch their heads.
finwe/míriel
míriel never does anything halfway, and míriel could have had indis. she preferred finwe, because finwe was bold and cheerful and ambitious, and closer at hand, and of the noldor whom she so loved; and very easy to love, very easy to love.
their love was good and holy for it blossomed in the beauty of valinor, when tírion was being built and míriel was excelling in the new surrounding. i find that detail so interesting actually! did they not know each other in the journey? the fact that they only fall in love in valinor, in the most ideal of ideal settings, when the new powerful wonder was still strong as a spell upon the newly arrived elves, is. a lot going on there.
but míriel did not long for queenship. it was finwe she preferred, the delight of their collaborations and friendship and understanding. him, and all his flaws, and all his talents and strengths. she could have had indis, and might have had indis, and bore no children, or none that might call to her ambition to make for needing to hold all the fire of a mighty prince, finwe's descendant. finwe the widowed king knew that long before he saw the princess of the vanyar dancing alone.

06x12//Never Gonna Give You Up - weekly recap
aka the one where I go against the grain, and you’re free to move on if that’s not for you
- Vic looking cute in the beginning and being ready to defend/save Travis with a baseball bat. Including their sweet and funny friendship moment and Vic being a nerd - what else could we ask for?
- Andy looks just great in this episode as well, both at home and in the field. Could have done without The British Dude, though, just saying
- that exchange between Andy and Ross in the beginning was just great, and I’m all here for it
- We need more of the casual jokes, like Maya saying “I hate that I know this” and Travis going “Oh, I know her”
- Vic supporting Theo, even though she didn’t quite understand what he was going through and was having a hard time, is still something I love about them (even though I did wonder what the repercussions would be in real life for just starting your own investigation like that). In general, Theo’s current storyline is so important and relevant to tell, and they’re doing such a great job at portraying all these emotions and conflicts
- For one of the first times (or the first time?) Maya is actually distracted from her job when they hear the news about what’s going on at the clinic, and it shows that a) priorities seem to be shifting for her and b) she clearly still isn’t okay. Which brings us back to “why is she already back on active duty?”, but I digress
- Which brings us to how Ross reacted to Maya losing her cool, and I really think she handled that one pretty well. Ross isn’t exactly known to be all warm at work, but while she did make it clear that they were on the job and that there was no time or space for personal panic, she was also empathetic of Maya’s situation and told her she would try to get more information and I loved that small gesture
- I wish that scenario with the girl and her smartphone was completely unrealistic, but having worked with younger folks, I am sad to report that nope, I’ve definitely seen stuff like that happen before. But to keep the peace: Of course that was a very extreme case, because it’s a drama show, duh.
- And of course they use yet another rescued person as a *hint hint nudge nudge* for one of the main characters (*cough cough* Ross and Sullivan) and at this rate it’s so hilariously and painfully obvious when they do that
- The British Dude being annoying af, man. (side note: That actor seems brilliant though)
- The controversial part: I loved that conversation between Andy and Ross towards the end. In the beginning, Ross was upset at the team’s actions and called it a mutiny and seemed just about ready to shut this station down herself, but then she watched them out in the field and thought about what Andy did, and she actually changed her mind and I loved that they showed that. Ross is, in no way, meant to be a perfect character. In fact, they made it clear from almost day one that she is deeply flawed, despite her ambitions as a female chief. Andy calmly but firmly explained why they did what they did and Ross considered her point of view and ended up agreeing with her, and I can respect that change of mind. Whatever happens between Maya and Ross in the future, is a different topic altogether, and I don’t like to make predictions about that, based on the relationship or lack thereof they are having at the moment, after Maya’s insubordination, mental breakdown and her blackmailing
- I also understand why Andy declined the position as acting captain. She really, truly, wants to be captain of 19, but she doesn’t want it, only to have it taken away from her again so soon. She is showing more and more that she can be and is a fantastic leader, but she doesn’t want it to be a makeshift thing and I understand that decision
- I love that Ross chose Theo as the acting captain instead and that Theo did not decline it, meaning he has made progress since asking for his own demotion all those years ago. Also, we got a bro hug between Travis and Theo out of that, and that’s always a nice bonus
- final side note about Grey’s: I loved that Ben pointed out to Maya that how she had felt about Carina is how Carina feels about her all the time when they’re at work. Maya is all about figuring out other people’s perspectives and feelings, and Ben might have helped her a lot with that
PS: The visual of Andy, Maya and Ross in those overalls was very much appreciated

nct ideal types 2021 :: 127
dream version | the confirmed facts are all from various interviews or fan questions but ‘my thoughts’ may well not be accurate! this is just for fun~ mark and haechan are in the dream version
moon taeil
Tumblr media
confirmed: someone cute with a short bob hairstyle
my thoughts:
taeil is a super chill, laid back guy who gets along with more outgoing members like johnny and haechan. this makes me believe he’d want a funny, outgoing partner to balance with his personality
he mentioned cute so this makes me think small or petite. definitely shorter than him.
he said once that he would love to sing to his future girlfriend all the time (she will be so lucky oh my gosh). not to mention he is very passionate about music and dropped out of a prestigious music school to join nct. so he would definitely need someone who likes and appreciates music
he said if he were a girl, he’d date yuta out of all of the 127 members. so perhaps he just thinks yuta is boyfriend material, but maybe taeil is attracted to the strong-minded, caring type
seo johnny
Tumblr media
confirmed: someone who smiles at him a lot. similar to girl’s generation’s yoona
my thoughts:
johnny seems to get along with everyone so this is a bit tricky to try to determine. he confirmed he likes yoona so going off of that, she’s obviously gorgeous and has a beautiful smile. her personality is also elegant, but down to earth and funny
he was voted by everyone including himself as the most romantic member. he says that he hopes one day he can build christmas trees with his wife just like he used to do with his mom (I’m so soft). I think he’s looking for someone who likes sappy romance and will flirt back with him
he’s tall. and since he named yoona as his ideal type, I think he’d prefer a taller girl (but not taller than him). then again, I’m not sure if he’d care all too much
he said he would date doyoung if he were a girl so I think that entails someone easily tease-able, neat, and proper
lee taeyong
Tumblr media
confirmed: someone who can teach him, lead him, and make up for his flaws. a girl with long hair of any race. laid back. his ideal type is the same as ten’s. someone hard-working has a tough style.
my thoughts:
he’s highkey a weeb (don’t deny this). no matter how charismatic he is on stage, we all know he’s a big softie who likes bugs and frogs and anime. he expressed he had a really hard time coming out of his shell and he’s quite introverted. he needs someone who’s strong-minded and knows what they’re doing
I remember when the rookies just came out in like 2014 and TY was 19 (?) ish and he confirmed that he’d never dated anyone yet. nobody believed him because he was so handsome but I have a feeling he was telling the truth. it’s been several years since then so I’m not sure how things have changed, but I have a feeling he would like someone experienced.
“any race” what a king. looks-wise besides having long hair, I can envision someone with great style. perhaps dyed hair, multiple piercings, tattoos, the works. fashion is something that tae really appreciates
nakamoto yuta
Tumblr media
confirmed: a girl with short hair and is around 15 cm shorter than him (so about 160cm aka 5′3″). an empathetic, cute girl who doesn’t ‘act pretty’. someone bright and comfortable
my thoughts:
he has a lot of confirmed facts about looks which are also really specific. maybe he just knows what he wants. but I also thinks he has experience. it seems like he wants a tomboy who has a strong vibe
he likes being the ‘oppa’ and taking care of others like we see him do with winwin, mark, and jungwoo. he’d be into someone who looks up to him and who he can lead
I don’t have a reason but I think he would like someone who laughs a lot and laughs at his jokes (maybe because mark does and he loves mark)
someone who’s not embarrassed to be herself
during oshiete japan they had to pick out of 4 types of roses to gift to their ‘girlfriend’. him and haechan were the only ones who chose to give 3 roses to their ‘girlfriend’. the psychologist analyzed this and said that they’re ‘flirts who seek attention’. so that being said, I think yuta would like someone who gives him a lot of attention and reactions
kim doyoung
Tumblr media
confirmed: someone polite and who treats their elders well
my thoughts:
I mean this in all seriousness, someone the exact opposite as haechan. while we can see in rare times that he does care for him, doyoung usually cannot stand haechan and all his tricks and taunting. as his confirmed type outlines, doie is really looking for someone who takes things seriously and listens to him well
I think he often feels underappreciated - a lot of times during his mv viewing reactions, the editors show another member during his part or just cut him out and you can tell he’s really disappointed (it hurts my heart). he would really like someone who goes out of their way to make him feel appreciated.
when nct 127 went on oshiete japan, doyoung was the only one to pick the potted rose and the psychologist there said that it means he isn’t looking to just date around, but rather to settle down and have a stable relationship. I strongly believe that doyoung is looking for someone long-term.
also, his love language is giving gifts (from my observation since he often gifts the members foods during mv shoots and gifted TY the couple ring). my best guess is that he’d want to spoil his partner a lot with gifts to show his feelings. someone who appreciates his gifts and understands that they come from his heart
he thinks ariana grande is hot so that’s the only visual thing I can think of. she’s obviously very gorgeous but she’s petite and has an amazing voice
jung jaehyun
Tumblr media
confirmed: a kind woman with long, straight hair who can communicate well with him. someone dependable, healthy, and into sports. someone usually calm but can be cute. doesn’t care if she’s older or younger. someone similar to him. someone like singer/actress IU.
my thoughts:
he has a lot of confirmed facts so I don’t have to make many assumptions here. someone with girl next door energy?
he says he likes IU, so going with that, someone petite and cute. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and treats everyone with kindness.
I think J was born to be romantic (literally, born on valentines day). he said his previous ambition was to be a teen dad and his lines from make a wish english version “spoil her with loyalty” sum up my next prediction: he wants someone like a best friend who’s in it for the long run
dong sicheng
Tumblr media
confirmed: someone with long, black hair
my thoughts:
he said his favorite actress is shu qi. although I don’t know if he just likes her acting or if she actually fits his ideal type, she is a traditional chinese beauty which I think winwin appreciates
he’s really introverted and is often overwhelmed by affection (i.e. all of the nct members). the exception is jaehyun and winwin seems to be the most comfortable around him. this makes me think he wants someone calm and chic
sicheng prefers staying inside to going out. not to diagnose him at all, but I reckon he can get socially anxious around large amounts of people. he’d like a partner who doesn’t overwhelm him and understands him
he really can’t cook (he couldn’t turn on a stove to make an egg on winformation). in the end, it wouldn’t matter, but i’m thinking that if you can cook you’d certainly earn some bonus points with him. it’s like that saying ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’.
kim jungwoo
Tumblr media
confirmed: n/a
my thoughts:
of all the members, I think jungwoo has expressed the least about his ideal type. not to make any unnecessary assumptions (but that’s all this post is really), but someone said he has strong bi energy. I can’t say anything because I’m not bi myself and I’m not him, but I can see this being a thing. take this with a grain of salt because I don’t actually have evidence
during oshiete japan, he was the only one to pick the large bouquet of roses to give to his ‘lover’. the psychologist analyzed this as him liking to pretend that he is in love and wanting to show his good side. he “can’t express his real feelings and doesn’t want to ever show his lame side to his lover”. because of this, I strongly feel that jungwoo would need someone who lifts his confidence and reassures him
the members he gets along with the most are probably yuta and mark. their personalities are quite different but based on their similarities, I think he is attracted to confidence, open-mindedness, and good work ethic.

I stumbled upon your blog whilst scrolling through the anti Romione tag and I’ve really found your Hp analysis to be not only interesting but I agree with a lot of it even though I’m more of a Harmony shipper. (Esp. pointing out that Draco is smart and could be redeemed as I had been disappointed that Jkr wrote him so seemingly two dimensional and that post really turned my opinion around about the whole thing)
I’d be really curious to hear your reasons for shipping Dramione bc while I’m mostly neutral on the pairing myself I’m interested in what drew you to Dramione as your preferred ship.
Hi there!
Thanks! Glad you like my takes!
What drew me to Dramione?
The short answer would be : It's about the angst. All my ships have a heavy dose of angst. And enemies to lovers is an easy way to create angst.
Another answer would be that shipping is an easy label under which I can put my 'fix-canon fixation'. You've read my posts, so you know what I dislike about HP and in a way Dramione is a way for me to fix canon and to keep what I like. I basically wrote a long ass fic to fix the elves - The Phoenix Potion has also some implied one sided Harmony but I doubt you would appreciate how I ran with Harry's canon flaws. I love Harry flawed as he is and I thoroughly enjoyed writing him being in absolute denial about his real motives for trying to prevent Dramione. Lol.
So for me it is about giving Draco a sort of easy motive to change. Of course you could write him learning about muggles, unlearning his prejudices without him falling for Hermione. But it's so much easier that way. Hermione is muggleborn and canonically challenges all the prejudices just by existing. So to make her a major plot point for his change is actually a huge chance and I don't know why JKR skipped that glorious opportunity.
Also I think there are some things that would make Dramione a good couple. Draco is smart and he can also be witty - even if he's never nice about his insults he has some very funny lines. So I think that Draco and Hermione would bicker but not because they are annoyed with each other (like Ron and Hermione are) but because of the challenge. It would mostly be about who would come up with a better clap back. I also headcanon them trying to top each other with witty descriptions of other people.
In addition I think that falling for Draco could curb some of Hermione's vengefulness. If she falls for an enemy it wouldn't be just her and her friends agsinst the rest of the world. I think it would broaden her emotional perspective. Often people see Hermione as this nice sweet girl, but she is not and I think Draco would accept this side of her but their story as enemies would make them both be more cautious about actually acting against others because of animosity - but they would absolutely drag the people they dislike to their hearts' content in the safety of their own home.
I also think that Draco would understand Hermione's ambition. She is not necessarily after money but after influence to change things. I see her as a campaigner and I can absolutely headcanon Draco pulling strings to help her. I don't really see her working her way up in the ministry because she is too antagonistic and too passionate. She would rather be a lawyer fighting for minorities I think. I cannot see her falling in line at the ministry. And politics means compromising - something she is not good at, although she might get better at it as she grows older and more realistic.
So, I think once Draco's prejudices are dismantled (for me a major point that needs to be met in Dramione fics or I don't read them) they are actually a good fit. And I hate that people say they could never happen because of how he treated her at school. He was in the enemy gang at that time. Honestly, Hermione's friends say some pretty awful things as well and they are her friends! And she might be vengeful but she can also forgive if the person asks for it. Just remember how Hermione immediately helped Harry in third year at the end even though they had fought about the fire bolt. Teenagers can be pretty rough!
I think Draco and Hermione compliment each other, they would have so much fun with intellectual sparring and they could make each other better. Not to mention that they could be a power couple.
And the angst of course. Draco has been in love with her forever (and in deep denial about it) is my fav headcanon. That scene at the Yule Ball really got me!
And to explore Hermione being challenged by emotions that do not fit her world view is also a nice aspect of it. I hate it when the just feel attracted because of looks. To me it's essential that the attraction is about their mind. Sapiosexuals both of them.... I dislike it when they just fall because of 'He/She's so hot'.
I've known from book four that JKR was going for R0mione but I never liked it and the following books cemented my opinions. Between book 6 and 7 I thought that Snape being on the good side and Draco getting a bit of a redemption was where JKR would go.
I was right about Snape (and unfortunately about R0mione) and wrong about Draco. I still think that Draco not identifying Harry at the Manor is an underrated act of resistance and redemption but JKR obviously did not think so. I think Draco not killing Dumbledore and not identifying Harry are the bravest things he ever did and that JKR has labelled them as cowardice - when it is just as easily explained as Draco having a conscience and acting on it in the best way possible - will always anger me.
I've seen R0mione shippers say that Ron telling Bellatrix to take him instead of Hermione shows that he loves her so much and pointing out that Draco did nothing. Draco did what he could do under the circumstances : Identifying Harry would have brought Voldemort and even more torture and death. Saying it was not Harry would have meant Draco's and possibly his family's death later when Harry got his normal face again. Buying time was the only option he had if he wanted to help or even if he just did not want to watch Harry and Co die. Protesting against Hermione's torture would probably have meant death as well. So unlike R0n, Draco did not have that option.
So, tldr : It's about the angst!
Thanks for the ask!
P.S. Harry and Hermione dancing in TDH lives rent free in my head and I don't even ship them.

10 Anti LO Asks
1. LO also completely fell off the amazon lists so?? idk i was under the impression with all the exclusive merch and how hard they were pushing it for literal months surely it would have gotten farther. maybe most of the readers didnt want to buy one copy and then ANOTHER copy for another cover and just knew it wasnt worth it when they could just read it for free anyway? like its basically a collector item and i think they overshot not realizing the fans arent book collectors.
2. im no publisher but i think the webtoons team kinda fucked up on this book. they split it between hardback and paperback, so that automatically splits sales, but they also made a B&N exclusive cover, so that splits sales again, but then they kept adding pins and signed nameplates (???) that people ended up cancelling preorders and maybe forgot to reorder so no wonder it sort of tumbled?? plus its a niche product anyway that most would rather read on their phones for free. What a mess.
3. tbh lo persephone just ... isnt a character. shes the best at everything, everyone loves her, the narrative always excuses her, she has no flaws and every problem she causes it just hand-waved or blamed on someone else. every other character only exists to love her, excuse her, or be punished for not kissing her feet. she has no goals or ambitions or hobbies, much less a real place in the story, she just exists.
4. Maybe I'm too simplistic, but I do think it's possible to write HxP where Persephone can love Hades AND Demeter. I'm just sad LO is following that same trend of making their relationship cruel and abusive with Persephone wanting nothing to do with her and revolving her world solely around Hades. Though this time it comes with Hades also being just as cruel to Demeter off his weird Kingly entitlement Rachel seems to think is charming over off-putting.
5. lets be frank here. persephone didnt start suddenly looking more mature, rachel just made all the woman now all just look as young as persephone to give the fake allusion shes actually not a baby faced teenager. she still looks and acts like a child.  shes actually gotten worse in both regards since s2 started.
6. Ik this is stupid but I find ir funny how Hestia, Athena and Artemis in the trial arc are dressed si ugly they look like they're going to church instead of an "important event" like judging a goddess for conspiracy and mass murder
7. i know LO doesnt really try to be remotely accurate but the "queen" look for persephone is just insultingly removed from greek elements. an aureole effect would be a nice touch, but instead its just some generic pink pouty woman with red eyes that blend into her skin and shes just in a cheep looking stick tiara and a boring black dress that of course has to show off her breasts. its supposed to be this regal look to the dread queen but it just looks like a rushed halloween costume instead.
8. Lo popularity made me so... Disappointed? I thought we are living in a world where feminists achieved more than that. Come on story about a barely adult naive girl getting together with an old capitalist douche with a big power imbalance would never be progressive nor feminist no matter how you write it. Up to this day I can't understand how people can like this narrative and how can they not see all the obvious issues! Just because it's labeled as feminist it doesn't mean it is, open your eyes
9. I have the feeling as if LO in more concerned of the aesthetics than actual plot. I'm not sure how to word it better. I mean its something New. It can also be good like doing visual metaphores to Show something when dialogue isn't good enough.
But LO doesn't seem to be able to do anything else
I just wanted to put that out there since i've been thinking about this for a long time and i don't feel like anypne has brought it up yet.
10. pt.1 I immediately want to apologize for the mistakes, I don't know English well, because I'm from Russia. I really love reading your blog and I agree with many opinions. I would like to share my opinion about Mint and Hades. Hades just kept her by his side because no one wanted to be with him and reveled in his own insignificance. As soon as Persephone appeared on the horizon, he refused Mint as easily as the nymph who worked with him ...
pt2. (the episode in which Mint came to Hades to sort out the office about the cap). I understand that they had an unhealthy relationship, but damn, it could have been played out differently. Many fans of LO repeat about the truthfulness of myths, but only in the case in which Mint will be humiliated and crushed.
pt3. And what about the wonderful baby Megara? Didn't Hades realize that she was in love with him? What prevented him from trying to start a relationship with her? Not everyone is attracted to their future partner right away, they could gradually develop their relationship and learn a lot from them.

Dark Skies
The Signs’ Face Claims
I had this idea for a while: Personification of the signs. I always wanted to write a story that presents the signs as people, with the same features and personalities that the signs are said to have, living their lives, interacting with each other. Here are a few ideas for each character, if I get to the actual story, the characters will develop a lot of course. Please inbox me your feedback, if you would be interested in a story as such.
Here’s an idea for the face claims. (the actors’ actual sun signs don’t have anything to do with their roles):
Henry Cavill as Aries, the impulsive soldier.Strong-minded and brave, but a hot-head, which makes him dangerous in a fight. He often throws caution to the wind and goes straight to the point, which he may regret later. He lives for today, is initiative and ambitious, lacks certain gentleness, humility and sense of social act, hurts people without even intending to. He’s restless, vital and always looks for new challenges and adventures. Deep-set eyes and dark eyebrows give him the severe, serious but handsome look. He’s not into love, but does like sex. He rarely gets attached to people, only lives for war and winning battles.
Tumblr media
Zoë Kravitz as Taurus, the confident, self-sufficient, but sensitive girl. You can rely on her, she’s honest and respects good manners. Patient and cautious, she knows what she wants and won’t let anyone stop her. She keeps her feet firmly on the ground, doesn’t like to dream or wish, she strongly believes that if you want something enough, you have to go and get it. She’s practical and responsible, but easier to break than she’ll ever show. She loves strongly, and passionately, has a big, loving heart, but knows when to let go, she doesn’t put herself down for anyone. Her doe-like, big, brown eyes will make you trust her with your life. She is exactly who a woman should be, if you could say that, confident, strong, independent and intelligent.
Tumblr media
Tom Hiddleston as Gemini, the sweet and funny, blonde, curly-haired sunny-boy. He can seamlessly change everything, from style, ideas to work or partner. He is easy to adjust to significant changes. Surrounded by a little nervous energy, he is brilliant but sometimes emotionally unstable. Being bisexual, he likes to sleep around with different people, but doesn’t really mean to intentionally hurt anyone, he just expects other people to take life and relationships as easily as he does. He’s humorous, energetic and cheerful, but doesn’t let anyone see his sensitive side, that’s why his mysterious way seems very attractive.
Tumblr media
Andrew Garfield as Cancer, the typical sweet boy, who likes to play with fire and often gets burned. He can go from being in a great mood to suicidal thoughts in a second. His heart is easy to break and he doesn’t know how to get over it. Trying to bring an order to his chaotic feelings, he starts writing. For himself at first, but that’s how his talent as a writer gets discovered. It helps at first, but his vulnerable nature wants him to take revenge on those who hurt him, which starts to destroy him slowly.
Tumblr media
Madelaine Petsch as Leo, the Queen Bee in Louboutins. She likes expensive clothes, always looks flawless and knows it. She appears even more confident than she actually is. As a struggling actress, her life hasn’t been the easiest. Trusting and a little naive, she’s often been used and lied to. She likes to manipulate people, but sometimes ends up being manipulated herself. Trying hard to hide her generous, forgiving heart, she thinks that the key to success is heartlessness and diamonds. Her brutally honest personality gave her the name of a “bitch”, which she enjoys at times, it gives her a painful kind of satisfaction to be hated, but admired at the same time. Her long, red hair perfectly matches her ever-red lips and green eyes, that roll so often. She enjoys her naturally good looks and knows how to use it for her best.
Tumblr media
Jamie Chung as Virgo, the beautiful healer. She’s a doctor, she lives for helping people. But the sad truth is, she doesn’t always know how to help herself. Being a gorgeous, strong woman, she is full of insecurities, no one can understand. She is ready to sacrifice herself for others, even people she doesn’t know, because her own life doesn’t mean anything to her. Attentive, with great analytical skills, she seems to see everyone's personality through, she sees when somebody’s hurting, when somebody's lying, her eyes don’t miss out on anything. She loves to bring order into the chaotic life, and tries to make the world a better place by being considerate and organized. Being wealthy, she doesn’t like expensive and unnecessary luxuries. Taurus is her soulmate, but unfortunately, there are many struggles that come in their way. Their love is beautiful and innocent, but leaves them both heartbroken, more than once.
Tumblr media
Shay Mitchell as Libra, the girl next door. She has always been a girl who went by unnoticed. A wallflower kind of girl as they say. She never minds, she doesn’t like to show off, doens’t like to shine. Simple clothes and sneakers, ponytail and barely any make-up, that is her every day look. She has a soft personality and knows how to handle troubles, a diplomat, religious, fair, justice has always been important to her. People usually think that she is a depressed teenager, but that isn’t true, life is going as she wishes it to go. She doesn’t like to be pushed, pressured, she prefers to leave responsibility to others. Sometimes, she feels a little basic, that’s all. But the girl will find her place in this world very soon.
Tumblr media
Michael Ealy as Scorpio, the blue-eyed devil. Despite what people said, he isn’t all that bad. The often call him “the evil eye”, if your eyes meet, you always move first. He can kill you with a look, undress you with a look, send you to hell with only one look. He’s never easy, everything is important to him and he takes everything seriously. All around him is black or white, nothing in between. The only people he can call friends seem more like loyal servants. It feels like he never tells the truth, he’s mysterious to a fault and will never tell you his opinion about anything. Don’t do him wrong, he will never let you leave with it. He scars a lot of people. Not always intentionally, just by being himself.
Tumblr media
Will Smith as Sagittarius, the short-tempered cop. He’s charismatic and respectful, a real fighter for justice. Straightforward, he will shoot arrows, he can’t leave anything unspoken. If you’re in the wrong, he’ll make you crack. He does have strong relationships with people, but only the ones who deserve it in his opinion. Quite tolerant, he will accept a lot of your flaws, but never cross a line, he can cut you out of his life in a second. He’s living on the edge, taking risks, jumps into danger, whether it’s about work or love. Being short-tempered, he gets angry fast, screams, even gets physical, but calms down fast and often regrets it. He does have a good soul, but not many get to see it. Mostly, all they see is a man fighting for the good in any possible ways.
Tumblr media
Keanu Reeves as Capricorn, the lone wolf. He never really needed anyone. He was fine being alone. Growing up in an orphanage, he was used to it. Not knowing love, no one to care about. But still, he got through, fought for his degree, became a teacher, not even knowing what for. He doesn't really fall in love, he doesn't really get attached, he doesn't really need it. His good looks and seemingly cool nature attracts a lot of people, he’s interesting, mysterious behind closed doors. But no one really knows him, not even himself. At times, it feels like he's ready, to be a part of the world, to take care of people, but he struggles to believe that anyone would put up with him. He always was so ambitious, so determined, but he came to a point where nothing makes sense anymore. That's the moment he meets him. Better said, he reads his book. A book about retaliation.
Tumblr media
Margot Robbie as Aquarius, the sharp-tongued beauty. She grew through struggles and insecurities, which turned her into this perfect human being. She was abused, betrayed and had to fight to survive, just to become a brilliant thief. She’s a woman who gets what she wants, with her intelligence and incredible looks. She considers herself a visionary, she has her ambitions and desires, she’s close to the spiritual world and has a great imagination. Overly dramatic at times, she knows her worth, and knows others better than they know themselves. People bore her quite easily, she expects mystery and entertainment from others. Sexually passionate, she suffers from lack of permanent feelings. Her life has to be a never-ending adventure.
Tumblr media
Jared Leto as Pisces, the lost soul. He'a a musician, struggling with drugs and alcohol abuse. His curious and creative mind can't manage between his will to get inspiration and his addictions. He always needs more, whether it's whiskey, love or music, he can never stop. At times, it feels like he's at the end, that he can't do it anymore, but only one shot, and he's back, writing, singing, playing guitar. He falls in love with creative souls like himself, struggling, even dying. For him, it's always over. Every day, can be his last and all he does is singing, dreaming, he always took the path of least resistance.

How would describe shameless to someone who never heard of it? How would you describe the specific characters?
I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve these super fun asks, but thank you so much! :D It’s funny that you sent this because I did actually describe the show to someone not too long ago, and I didn’t like how I did it in hindsight. I felt like I didn’t do it enough justice. So, I get a second chance to try again!
“How would you describe Shameless to someone who never heard of it?”
Shameless is a show about how life doesn’t always go our way, we don’t always do the right thing, and we’re all imperfect beings—but we still deserve a chance regardless. The Gallaghers begin the series nearly at rock bottom, doing anything they have to for their literal survival, but also to keep their family together. Sometimes that means supporting each other when they’re in a difficult spot, banding together to help their neglectful father even though he doesn’t deserve it, or even committing petty crimes to sustain their meager way of life. As they get older and have more agency in and control over their lives, the nature of their problems shifts, and they learn from their own mistakes rather than reacting to their parents’. The same trends unfold for the people and families in their orbit, showing that various trials and tribulations can impact anyone of any social standing. Not everyone gets a happy ending; not everyone gets what they want. However, they grow and learn how to manage both the hand that they’ve been dealt as well as the bed they’ve made for themselves. That, after all, is life.
Shameless is a “dramedy” where the comedy elements utilize primarily satire, which sets it apart from the popularity of slapstick and dry comedies over the last decade. By nature, the show therefore addresses difficult, uncomfortable, and controversial topics in manners and utilizing methods that are designed to make us laugh at the absurdity while forcing us to think about these topics in ways that we may have avoided otherwise. This format has been established since the pilot episode and certainly is not to everyone’s taste. I wouldn’t recommend this show to anyone who prefers that such issues be addressed with a deeper analysis on the part of the characters rather than the audience, which is the general tendency in drama pieces rather than shows of this genre.
“How would you describe the specific characters?”
For this, I’ll focus on the main Gallagher family, Kev, V, and Mickey, as they’ve been the constant presences on the show since the start. I’ll also keep it relatively short since I could write essays on each one, and that would bore anyone who hasn’t heard of Shameless (and 95% of those who have) to tears.
1.      Frank Gallagher is the stereotypical “deadbeat” who plays the system for every penny so that he doesn’t have to work, choosing to fund his addictions rather than support his family. He will go to any lengths if it means preserving this lifestyle—mild, absurd, and even heinous. He functions as something of an anti-hero, being more a threat to the family’s stability in early seasons than a boon and gradually sinking into obscurity because of his children’s growing indifference as he burns one bridge after another with them. Frank prides himself on espousing only the values that will get him what he wants in a given circumstance. In specific instances, that has meant showing a measure of love and affection for his children that evidence has proven exists deep, deep below the surface. In others, he’s a wild card. Frank’s various fatal flaws have included arrogance, addiction, selfishness, and an avoidance of any and all responsibility.
2.      Fiona Gallagher is the eldest and began the series as the rock of the family because, to put it simply, she was the only person able to do it. She selflessly cared for her younger siblings so that they wouldn’t be scattered into foster homes or adoption thanks to her parents’ neglect, even to the point where she gave up portions of her life and blurred the lines between her roles as sister versus caregiver, which became a sticking point in later seasons when her siblings didn’t need or want a mother-figure anymore. While Fiona was initially very responsible with regards to raising her siblings, she therefore sacrificed a lot of opportunities that were important for her development as a young adult and exhibited an immaturity typical of people her age that impacted other arenas of her life, especially relationships. As her role as caregiver dwindled, that immaturity and the norms prevalent in her environment became more pronounced with her newfound freedom, and she struggled greatly in the face of what she viewed as making up for lost time. Fiona’s various fatal flaws have included ambition, a “martyr complex,” and viewing her family as an impediment to her ambitions later in life instead of a support system.
3.      Lip Gallagher is the oldest son. He began the series with a hefty chip on his shoulder. Intelligent, quick-witted, and calculating, Lip was constantly referred to as a sort of diamond in the rough and clearly came to believe it. This led to a very fascinating dynamic within the family and his other interpersonal relationships as his love for and desire to protect his family was balanced by a sense that his way was the best way—the only way, really. A combination of poor choices and unfortunate circumstances beyond his control resulted in a very real “fall from grace,” by South Side standards, and Lip has worked hard to claw his way back from where he was in the middle of the series. Where Fiona spiraled further as she withdrew from her family, Lip leaned on them and others in his support system—and it saved him. Lip’s various fatal flaws have included arrogance, contempt for power structures in which he is not at the top, and trying to solve other people’s problems at the expense of dealing with his own.
4.      Ian Gallagher is the middle child and something of an outlier in his own right where his family is concerned. He began the series seeming to have his shit together: he balanced school, ROTC, and work, excelling in all three at just fifteen years old. He was plagued by his status in the family at times, not old enough to have more control over his situation while not young enough to shrug off a lot of it on Fiona and Lip, and wanted something for himself more than anything. It’s that combination that put him in an extremely vulnerable position, because while he was the picture of responsibility and didn’t orchestrate as many scams as his siblings (though he was involved in plenty—he is South Side and a Gallagher, after all), it gave him—and his family—the false impression that he was more mature and in control than he was. Multiple older men preyed on him because of that, and in his thirst to find something that was solely his and someone he could care for outside his household, he viewed them as relationships rather than abuse. Like Lip, Ian truly hit rock bottom in a different manner, although the causes of his descent were more heavily skewed beyond his control. In true Ian form, however, he remains driven to find the straight and narrow—and stick to it as much as he can. Ian’s various fatal flaws have included ambition, a “hero complex,” compartmentalizing to the point of narrowmindedness or naïveté, and ignoring his own needs in pursuit of fulfilling others’.
5.      Debbie Gallagher is similar to Lip in that she has always been clever, cunning, and driven to get what she wants. Debbie began the series in a difficult position, going to school and contributing to the household while ultimately not in control of anything that was going on. From the start, all she wanted was a functional family, and it colored her behavior throughout the first six seasons of the show. In many cases, that meant doing whatever she could to hold everyone together: investigating Fiona’s lying boyfriend, running a daycare so that Fiona could work all night and still find time to sleep, prompting Fiona to more actively worry when Ian ran away and helping Lip locate him, and caring for Liam a lot of the time while he was a baby. Over the years, as the dysfunctions racked up, she sought an escape through boyfriends and a baby of her own. The means by which she attempted and ultimately failed to achieve these goals were at times reprehensible and spurred on by both her immature ignorance and the culture in which she was raised. Debbie’s various fatal flaws have included self-centeredness, envy, manipulative tendencies, and not thinking or caring about the implications and consequences of her actions for herself or the people involved.
6.      Carl Gallagher began the series as a real mess. The word “sociopath” comes to mind. He was the stereotypical “wild child” whose behavior embodied the dysfunctional nature of the family and their environment. He destroyed toys for fun, tortured animals, physically bullied children at school, and was held back multiple times for poor academic performance. Carl was never as academically bright as the other Gallagher siblings, but his street smarts were nigh unparalleled and, like Lip, he could probably survive anywhere. Over time, Carl underwent a remarkable transformation: embracing the negative stereotypes of his environment, he dove towards rock bottom with gusto only to realize that the thug life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Once again, he paralleled Lip and Ian’s trajectory in leaning on his family when it became too much, and he’s turned his entire life in the opposite direction to pursue a path that he hopes will lead to helping people rather than hurting them for his own gain or reputation. Carl’s various fatal flaws have included lack of foresight, a penchant for violence, and ignorance.
7.      Liam Gallagher is still very young and therefore tougher to fully characterize as his development isn’t as extensive. Right now, he’s the same age Debbie was when the show began, and we’ve seen just how far she’s come. So, for the time being, Liam is extremely bright and has grown up with a great deal more privilege than his siblings. He doesn’t remember saving for the squirrel fund with fears of not being able to eat all winter in mind. He doesn’t remember what it’s like to worry about Frank or Monica’s actions having an enormous and lasting impact on them. He doesn’t remember Lip dropping out of school and moving out of the house, Monica’s actions at Thanksgiving, Fiona crying over crumpled bills from working at the sport bar, Ian going missing for four months and coming home a different person, or Debbie lying about Patrick just so they could keep a roof over their heads. Liam didn’t grow up with those things, and so he has the luxury of being a kid a bit more of the time. However, because his parents aren’t around and Fiona left the house a long time ago despite being his guardian, he has matured quickly in lieu of any real supervision.
8.      Kevin Ball and Veronica Fisher have been the Gallaghers’ closest allies in the neighborhood all this time. Kevin isn’t the brightest academically or in terms of common sense, but he has a good heart and makes the best decisions when he uses it. He has been through a lot, between foster care as a kid, a crazy ex-wife, trying to keep the Alibi afloat, and raising twin daughters that they definitely didn’t have the means for when they discovered that they were expecting two kids. And Veronica… Well, she’s quite literally his other half. She’s savvy and smart, intelligent and assertive—they complete each other. They began the series as an established couple experiencing some growing pains, especially when Veronica was giving the Gallaghers everything from use of their shower to their toaster while Kevin insisted that they needed to focus on themselves before they could help Frank’s kids. (He talked a good game, but when the chips are down, Kevin has always been there for them too.) They’re good people who’ve been given a few bad shakes and taken a few wrong turns, but their love for each other, their kids, and the Gallaghers has made them a surprisingly strong heart of the show. Kevin’s various fatal flaws have included lack of foresight, ignorance, and not standing up for himself. Veronica’s various fatal flaws have included avoiding communication about her feelings and indecisiveness.
9.      Mickey Milkovich is the stereotypical personification of their environment. He began the series as a poor thug—and a dirty one, at that—who exuded such a presence in the neighborhood that he instilled fear at a mere glance. His family functioned as a foil to the Gallaghers, perhaps what they would have been if Frank had been a different person or they’d fallen even further. Mickey didn’t benefit from an emotionally supportive family that banded together to provide for more than merely monetary concerns, not to mention that his father was openly and violently homophobic, so it took a great deal of time and overcoming numerous internal and external hardships for him to come to terms with who he is on many levels. Over the years, Mickey was self-employed or acted with his family as a drug dealer, a pimp, and a prison hitman; worked for a drug cartel; and has engaged in any number of other scams and illegal activities in order to make ends meet—and he has been quite happy to keep doing so as it plays to his strengths. Mickey is remarkable, however, because he has always been a multifaceted character whose problematic decisions, abrasive mannerisms, and questionable lifestyle didn’t and don’t negate that he cares very deeply and will do literally anything for the few people he allows to get close to him, specifically Ian. Mickey’s various fatal flaws have included lack of foresight, avoiding communication about his feelings, and not reaching out for help when he needs it.

That was quite a bit longer than I initially intended, but I had a great time putting this together. Thank you again for the ask!

It does occur to me that episode 5 of the Witcher is possibly my favorite in terms of interpersonal dynamics.  Specifically for Yennefer and Geralt.
It’s always tricky when we’re dealing with a limited series, with one episode per short story (and not even the full episode, really), to establish strong relationships of the sort that tie the narrative together.  This is especially the case for Yen and Geralt, since its their relationship and its push and pull that’s so very important in the novels and the games.  (Even if you go the other romantic path, it’s still incredibly significant.)
But overall, I think that episode 5 (and episode 6 after that) do a surprisingly good job with the set up.
A lot of the relationship dynamic between Yennefer and Geralt is set up with what came before.  I joked about how the juxtaposition of Geralt’s interest at Calanthe’s torture threat and Yen’s “I *inflict* pain” are the show’s unsubtle way of showing how compatible they are.  But honestly, it’s kind of true.  If you look at the relationships set up at the very beginning: Geralt and Renfri, Yennefer and Istredd, we start to see how the two can fit together.  Yennefer doesn’t play at being anything other than she is.  Geralt (with one exception) doesn’t judge her ambition or lust for power.
I think for people looking for a conventional romance, episode five might seem more than a little lacking.  But Yennefer and Geralt aren’t really a conventional romance.  They’re a kinky romance.  Their initial give and take is more about the exchange of power than it is sweet words and candlelight.
The moment they meet, in the middle of the orgy, the power dynamics are already visibly in play.  He’s out of armor, disarmed, asking for help and bringing apple juice of all things.  She’s gowned and masked, domme chic, lounging in what might as well be a throne.  She’s standing above him as they meet and slowly descends as they speak.  She sets the terms, he accepts.
Then there’s the bath.  He’s naked, in plain sight, while she stalks around him appreciatively.  She lowers herself into the bath, but only after making him turn his back.  She shifts the mirror so he can’t see.  He doesn’t seem to mind that at all.
It gets really interesting though when he mocks her transformation: what was her flaw?  A clubbed foot?  Split ends?  That’s the moment that Yennefer freezes up.  And I don’t think it’s because she was offended.  I think it has to do with the way Yennefer sees her transformation.  Because Yennefer’s transformation was never really about fixing her physical flaws.  If you recall the beginning of episode 3, Yennefer’s big complaint was that she had no idea what her idealized self would look like.  She tells Istredd that he’s lucky: Ban Ard boys don’t have to go through the transformation at all.  She’s not ashamed of her disfigurements, nor should she be.  They may have made her a target for village bullies, but in Aretuza, they’ve never held her back.
Istredd accuses her of being angry that she missed her chance to be beautiful, but there’s no real indication that Yennefer was even thinking about that when she missed the ceremony.  She was still focused on the damage her ancestry reveal had done to her ambition.  She does choose to undergo the transformation, but as a weapon and a means for the power she wants.  It’s a mask, the same as she was wearing in the orgy.
What Geralt did in that moment was say “I see that you’re wearing a mask, and I don’t really care what you’re hiding.”  And that is where things shift.
She immediately drops the idea of him prostituting himself for his friend’s life (something that he finds obviously disappointing.  Clearly he was enjoying the power exchange too) and goes for a more overt means of getting him out of the way.  But the sexual chemistry is still there and unspoken, and she can’t completely drop the domme act: see, for example, the way she dresses him.
So then we get mind control and an almost execution.  I don’t necessarily think Yen was trying to kill him there.  She probably assumed he’d escape before execution (I doubt she had any idea that the one guard really wanted to “play” with a Witcher.  And how fitting is it that we get those sexualized taunts in an episode that’s all kinky power exchange.).  Or that Jaskier would wish them both away.  Though Yen is also pretty focused on her own desires, so I’m not sure that she that she’d have felt that badly if he had died there.
But then he comes to save her.  And that’s where things get really interesting.  He offers her his wish, she can have whatever she actually wants if she just takes it.  But she refuses.  Her desire for a fertility cure has never really been about having a child.  It’s about being denied something she wants.  It doesn’t mean anything if someone else gives it to her.  And I think she especially doesn’t want HIM to be the one to give it to her.  Yennefer will always be dominant, damnit.
Then Geralt makes his wish.  We don’t know what his exact wording was, but I think we know Geralt well enough to know that whatever wish he made wouldn’t have involved Yennefer falling in love with him.  He’s as emphatic about choice as she is, in his own way.
But at that point their relationship has shifted again.  Yennefer realizes, at least subconsciously, that this is a man who has seen her at her most power hungry.  He saw her in the center of maelstrom screaming that she wanted everything.  Istredd may have loved her before she was beautiful, but he found her lust for power revolting.  Tissaia ridicules it.  But Geralt, who saw her at her worst, experienced her at her worst, doesn’t mind it.
In fact, he trusts her enough to fall asleep in her presence.  That’s got to be intoxicating for someone like Yen.
Geralt’s side of things is also interesting.  (And requires a bit of future knowledge to analyze.)  I think there are a few elements at work here: first, his desire to save self-destructive women is clearly what gets him back into that building after she puts him under mind control.  But I don’t think that’s the point where he truly became enthralled.
I think it was seeing Yennefer at her worst actually: it was seeing her power-lust and her ambition.  It was seeing how much she WANTS.
Because that’s the thing that stands out about season 1 Geralt: except maybe at the very beginning, he doesn’t seem to WANT much of anything.
Of course, he demands coin for service.  But he shies away from any kind of more substantial reward.  Especially if it feels like it’s undeserved.  The whole reason he got a Child Surprise is because he didn’t want a reward at all.  Duny had persisted and Geralt just said “fuck it, give me the next goat you have.”  Geralt’s a dumbass who doesn’t appreciate destiny’s sense of humor.  But he still tries like hell to refuse that gift.
He doesn’t seem to have much by way of long term physical possessions, besides that amulet.  He has Roach...possibly, assuming Roach isn’t a sequence of horses under the same name.  But with the way he talks to her, it’s clear that Roach (Roaches?) is a being to him, not a possession.
Geralt doesn’t seem to care about personal comfort.  He rejects gifts.  And the only thing we ever see him buy for himself is a night’s companionship with a sex worker.
And I think that’s not meant to be a positive thing.  It’s like Geralt says in episode 6, when Yennefer asks him if he ever wanted anything else besides being a Witcher.  And he says that if he had, it was too long ago to remember.
That’s heartwrenching in its own right.  Kaer Morhen did such a number on him that he literally can’t imagine anything other than being a Witcher.
But it’s also even more heartwrenching after episode 8, when we do get to see a Geralt who IS young enough to want something.  And we see at least some of what happened to him to change that.
And it’s sad-funny too, because early on Yennefer doesn’t believe that he went looking for a djinn just to get a good night’s sleep.  But I think we’ve seen enough of Geralt to believe just that.  That’s how broken he is, the closest thing he has to a “want” is sleep.
And then he meets Yennefer.  Who is indeed magnificent.  And she wants EVERYTHING.  She’s everything he doesn’t know how to be.
And when she refuses to accept his wish for herself, she forces him to make a wish.  And in that second, he does want.  He wants HER.  Not her love or companionship, obviously, or she’d never have been able to storm away from him in episode 6, but he still didn’t want to lose her.
It’s not a healthy relationship by any means.  Not yet anyway.  (Maybe Jaskier can give them a pamphlet about safe BDSM practices and teach them about safewords?)  It’s not a traditionally romantic relationship at all.  But I find it absolutely compelling.
And hot.  I own my kinks.

The Manipulative Bastard is the master manipulator of people, in essence, a character who manipulates others through their emotions, perspectives, psychologies and any other way they can get them dancing to their tune. This is the guy or gal who gets off on playing head/mind games—clever and dangerous and lacking comedic overtones (usually). She always has a plan ready, but rather than do any work, the Manipulative Bastard prefers to play on other characters' emotions and mental states and then watch the victims destroy themselves as they waste their energy on fighting against fake dangers or their friends.
are we surprised? with a lack of loyalty to others, including her own family, jazmine will gladly step on others and use their weaknesses to her advantage to get what she wants. she’s been a manipulative bastard since she was a child, ever since she first discovered how much her mist control could control the perceptions of others. observant and resourceful, jazmine has no qualms using her talents to gain unauthorized information about others and using it for her personal gain. she views people as her pawns, and her selfish way of thinking gives her little guilt about physically or mentally forcing others into submission. this is a trait she’s picked up from her own father, which we will delve into in the next trope.
daddy’s little villain
mention of emotional abuse tw
She's the daughter of an Evil Overlord, who shares her parent's ambition, cunning, and cruelty. She could be anything from a simple Spoiled Brat to an Overlord in waiting. She's also likely to be a Princess (since even villainy is improved with that), although she will still prefer wearing black or dark colors over pink.
jazmine’s mortal father can largely be thanked for the way she is now. from as young as she can remember, he was training jazmine to be a powerful force in both the demigod and mortal world. while he raised her to think she could accomplish anything she worked toward, she was mostly a pawn to satisfy his thirst for power. he didn’t care much for her as a daughter; mostly for what she could do for him. she started to recognize this during her formative middle school years, consequently turning her childhood role model into her worst enemy. when she started rebelling against him and acting out, he sent her away full-time to a camp on the other side of the globe. since then, the issues only progressed, eventually leading to a falling out in which she hasn’t seen or spoken to her mortal family in many years.
this upbringing has fueled her desire to constantly be the best in her fields of expertise, which is partly why she quested for years in hopes of some type of recognition. with the heavily hidden hope that she could one day rub in his face that she had succeeded without him, all her life she has fought to try to ‘prove her worth’ to others despite being the daughter of a minor goddess (or titan). because her father only loved what she could do for him, she places everyone in two categories: the puppets, and the puppeteers.
and she will never be the puppet again.
broken ace
He's tall, charming, strikingly good-looking, well-spoken in five languages, and classically trained in even more instruments. But inside, he's an ugly, writhing mass of self-hatred and Parental Issues. Expect him to have at least one bizarre trait or ability that should not be overlooked, as well as an unhealthy attitude about love, life, and humanity in general. He most likely doesn't have anyone that loves or respects him for what he really is. This may be justified. This character is usually male, but not always. Also, he may just be a perfectionist crumbling under his own standards. The chief difference between the Broken Ace and the usually female Stepford Smiler is that the Stepford Smiler wants to appear normal at all costs, often to the point of hurting herself emotionally (or because she's sociopathic). This guy has the same setup, but is more talented and wants to be the best, loved by all, and accepted.
although the timeline wasn’t as accelerated as she had hoped when she was a child, jazmine was making waves in the world of deities before her last quest against zeus had occurred. now, as a semi-retired quester, she is captain of the football team and starting to make a name for herself in the mortal fields of business and sports. despite the air of nonchalant superiority that she constantly tries to present, she is in a constant state of despair. right when she starts to undergo some development in her relationships with others, they leave, and she is constantly failing her own impossibly high standards. she’s crumbling, and at any point she is ready to run away again.
ice queen
Much like a Tomboy, the Ice Queen is a major character archetype which is somewhat hard to define. Her signature characteristic is that she is cold; the ambiguity comes from what "cold" means. She has a cold heart, a frosty demeanor and very often a resting bitch face; she attracts but will never be wooed. The Ice Queen is considered dangerous to love because she will not (or cannot) love back. She's not much for friendship either, preferring to be alone. Situations where an Ice Queen "thaws" and learns to enjoy the company of others are so common that they have their own trope.
she’s cold and takes no shit. she holds people at a distance, even those that could potentially be considered friends. she doesn’t believe in unconditional love, and she believes that most affection direct toward her is generally a ruse to get her guard down. she’s unnecessarily rude to others, almost relishing in the negative reactions at times, but to her, she’s just keeping it real.
the trickster
A trickster is a character who plays tricks or otherwise disobeys normal rules and conventional behavior. The Trickster openly questions and mocks authority, encourages impulse and enthusiasm, seeks out new ideas and experiences, destroys convention and complacency, and promotes chaos and unrest. At the same time, the trickster brings new knowledge, wisdom and many An Aesop. Even when punished horribly for his effrontery, his indomitable spirit (or plain sheer foolishness) keeps him coming back for more. Tricksters can be anything from gods of chaos, bedeviling heroes for a few laughs, to master manipulators who use cruel ploys and sadistic choices. They can also be heroes (or more likely Anti-Heroes) who make up for a lack of strength or bravery with manipulation, planning, or just plain cheating. The trickster is often a Master of Disguise and may have magical or super-powers. They're often found Walking the Earth.
although this description was much more relevant when she was younger, jazmine has a penchant for drama and chaos. she genuinely has fun engaging in pranks and tricks, and she gladly lifts a symbolic middle finger to authority in any chance that she gets. in middle school, she was nearly expelled from a mortal school because of all her tricks, and she spent a sizable portion of her adult years before eonia traveling and engaging in casual mayhem. when she isn’t getting revenge or fulfilling a paid request, she generally has fun toying with others.
deadpan snarker
A character prone to gnomic, sarcastic, sometimes bitter, occasionally whimsical asides. The Deadpan Snarker exists to deflate pomposity, point out the unlikelihood of certain plans, and deliver funny lines. Typically the most cynical supporting character. In most cases, it is implied that the snarker would make a good leader, strategist, or consultant given their ability to instantly see the flaws in a constructed plan. More often than not, their innate snarkiness is the only thing preventing the other characters from comprehending this for themselves. In other cases, the Deadpan Snarker resorts to sarcasm because they're the Only Sane Man. Tends to be shot a Death Glare when they go too far (and probably isn't without one of their own, either). Note that due to the definition evolving, the "Deadpan" part of the title has gradually become The Artifact and a deadpan delivery is no longer a necessary part of the trope.
jazmine is no stranger to delivering biting remarks coupled with foul language. she’s quick to point out flaws, opting for the brutally honest approach more times than not. she’s aware that her language can hurt others, but she finds it easier to escape the frivolities and get to the point. depending on the person, she exaggerates this trope by trying to draw out a bad response from them, mostly for her own entertainment. people already view her as heinous, so why not embrace the reputation, right?
survivor guilt
death mention tw
You might be the Last Of Your Kind or someone else made a Heroic Sacrifice for you or you lived through a Restricted Rescue Operation, but whatever the reason, you're going to feel a massive sense of guilt.
although the quest with adelphie and celeste was technically a success, with the trident successfully being returned back to poseidon, the team had faced major losses. adelphie had lost her life, and celeste had suffered debilitating injuries. physically, jazmine suffered the least, and it’s a guilt that she continues to carry.
aloof big sister
to the majority of the hecate family, especially @rostameu
He's smarter, stronger, faster, more talented, and more refined than the hero, and — just to add insult to injury — he's probably sexier, too. His only problem seems to be moving his face out of that expression of bored, dignified disdain. And he just happens to be the elder brother of one of the main cast, which often gives them a raging inferiority complex. Will most likely double as the Ineffectual Loner and Noble Demon, thereby running the risk of becoming an Ensemble Darkhorse. May or may not be evil, strictly speaking, but is almost guaranteed to fight against the protagonists at one point, and spout off Cryptic Conversation to prove how much better informed he is. May or may not be a Stealth Mentor and/or consider his younger siblings annoying. Often an integral part of a mysterious organisation, and may be the Enigmatic Minion or even a Hero Antagonist in that case.
OKAY, so the running joke with jazmine is that she dislikes her siblings, which is very true tbh. i’m not going to speak for rostam and say most of that stuff actually applies, but jazmine is very cold toward her younger brother and views herself as much better in every way. with loner tendencies, disdain toward her brother, and shady side hustles, she matches this trope very well, and it was only fitting to add a trope about disliking siblings to jazmine’s task. and yes, she’s technically one of the youngest right now but hush.

Just finished the latest chapter, thank you! that was such an awkward talk, yikes, I have to say, I was upset with Devon, but now I'm really upset with Ellie, I know she loves Sarah, and that Chuck's on a rut, but really Ellie? first he's taking advantage of him and then he's undeserving? that was a some crappy sister behavior, sorry to say, she's supposed to be the one that knows his full potential and never doubting him that he really does deserve someone like Sarah Walker...
Honestly, and don’t take this the wrong way, but I think y’all readers aren’t taking Ellie being a real person with real person feelings very well. Someone left a review just now and said it really well. Ellie’s either written in fic as uber bossy and overprotective, obnoxiously so, or she is written as someone whose only character trait is getting Chuck and Sarah together and squealing about it. So for people who haven’t actually watched the show in a long time, and who only read the fics where she’s one of those two things, I get why Ellie wouldn’t be folks’ favorite character.
But her character is actually really layered and wonderful in the show, which is why I adore her so much, and that’s why I decided to respect her enough to let her be human in YuleTie. Honestly, if a friend of mine kissed my brother in front of me and then they admitted they slept together, I’d be like WHAAATTT THEEEEE FUCKKKKKK??!??!?!?!?!?!?! Granted, my relationship with my brother isn’t the same as Ellie and Chuck’s relationship. But still, like, come on. Your best friend and your sibling? ANY HUMAN BEING would be like UUUMMMMMMMMM WHAATTTT??????
This isn’t like canon where Sarah meets Chuck first and they “date” and she meets Ellie after that and there’s this tentative friendship and bond that forms that then becomes an actual genuine friendship. Sarah and Ellie meet each other first in YuleTie, become fast friends, BEST friends, and are super close best friends for two whole years before Sarah and Chuck realize their feelings for one another. So this is a super jarring situation for her.
Maybe I didn’t accomplish as much nuance as I tried to have in Ellie’s explanation for why she was shocked about Sarah having feelings for Chuck. So I’ll try here. She is well aware that Chuck is a great guy, the best dude. He’s super cute, he’s smart, he’s talented, and he has a shit ton of promise. But all of those set-backs with Stanford and shitty Jill took his legs out from under him, stuck his self-esteem in the gutter, and basically made him stop reaching for more. And honestly, IN CANON, there are times when he acts like the typical 20something guy living with his sister and her boyfriend stuck in a rut loser. As fantastic as a person as he is, as much as he cares for people, as cute as he is, as king as he is, and as funny as he is. He has no real goals or ambition, because he’s in this state of “WHY? WHY DOES IT MATTER?” Because he got kicked around, sure, but also ... it’s a character flaw of his, an almost immaturity. And Ellie sees it better than anyone because she’s right there watching it happen and knows him better than anyone. And it frustrates the shit out of her because even without his Stanford degree, he could get A DEGREE still, or he could find a better job, or keep trying to sell these prototypes/programs of his. And he just doesn’t do that. He farts around at the Buy More, then comes home and plays video games with Morgan.
So yeah, her super accomplished, go-getter, traveling, adventuring, sweet, warm, funny, RIDICULOUSLY GORGEOUS best friend who she loves like a sister having romantic feelings for Chuck is a shock to her. Not because she thinks he’s undeserving, per se, but because he’s just gone so long in this slump and ignoring her attempts to get him out of it, her attempts to push good women towards him, that Sarah seeing that and latching onto it as hard as she apparently has makes Ellie like “excuse me WHAT?”
I’d ask you (with full respect for your opinion, you may just not be reading it the way I tried to write it and that happens!) to maybe look at it again. Ellie sees his full potential better than anyone, which is WHY he makes her so frustrated and upset with his rut-behavior.
As for her thinking Chuck might’ve taken advantage. Come on now. Chuck’s a man. And again, Ellie knows better than ANYONE Chuck’s flaws and the fact that he is a MAN means he’s capable of letting Sarah control that narrative without expressly stopping her. Anybody should think that about anyone they know, but especially a straight dude who you’ve just seen making dreamy love eyes at the woman in question over a trivia game. Yes, Ellie made a mistake, but I want to write an Ellie Bartowski who is capable of making mistakes. She’s flawed herself. She jumps to conclusions, like any real person would.
I adore Ellie Bartowski so much, and I wanted her to be as human as possible in this, and it’s kind of disappointing me reading how uncompromisingly angry people are getting with her, as if she needs to be above realistic human reactions to startling situations. As if she always has to be 100% ready to be like CHARAH CHARAH CHARAH in every situation, canon or AU. As if that’s her only function.
I hope you don’t take this personally. I just wanted to explain my intention with Ellie. I saw you have a second message as well, so I’ll address that one too.

Recently someone leaked two episode titles for Season 1B of The Owl House, originally in Russian, and translated them as follows;
Senses and Insensitivity
Mini-Problems
As a disclaimer, I should warn that not all leaks can be trusted, and sometimes things can change between leaks and official releases! Likewise, translation from one language to another can be a finnicky thing, what with there being a wide variety of synonyms to choose from. It’s even trickier when one considers that the Episode titles are clearly spelling out a message- Which, this leaker may or may not know what said message is, which can contribute to the inaccuracy of these episode titles and the letters they contribute to the anagram! For all we know, Mini-Problems is actually supposed to translate to Tiny Problems, or something like that!
But for now... let’s just work with what we have and speculate!
We know there’s an A from Adventures in the Elements, and given how the titles spell out “A witch lose” so far, it wouldn’t make sense for AitE to be the eleventh episode. I’ve tried looking at it from various perspectives, but I can’t see any potential messages that start with “A witch lose a” that make grammatical sense. Coming from someone who’s gotten pretty good grades in English, I think it’s safe to say that AitE is NOT Episode 11!
Again, if we go by grammar rules, it seems almost certain that the true Episode 11 will start with an S! Lo and behold, Senses and Insensitivity fits like a glove!
I’ve speculated before that there will be nineteen episodes total in Season 1. Information from another source, I forgot where, confirmed this, and it seems to line up with the number of quests in the Witch’s Apprentice game on the DisneyNOW app!
That means that so far, we know the title spells out, “A witch loses,” that there’s an A somewhere in the mix (presumably early but we can’t be too sure), and possibly an M added in there as well! Not only that, but we have eight letters unaccounted for in this message, one of which is definitely an A, the other which might be an M.
So, let’s go over our possibilities, shall we?
If we go by the assumption that AitE follows SaI, and then comes Mini-Problems, then this means the message could spell out, “A witch loses a m------”, or even, “A witch loses Am------”!
For eight-letter words starting with Am that seem topical to the show’s mysteries, I’ve compiled a few possibilities, but these don’t account for all of them;
Ambition, Amnesiac, Amnesias, Amethyst, Amateurs, Amphibia
Obviously some of these are less credible than the rest, and I only included Amphibia just because I thought it’d be funny given that’s the name of another show involving a PoC girl transported to another world that was announced alongside TOH and was created by a Gravity Falls alumnus.
Regardless! Each of the words I’ve discussed could have potential meaning. Ambition could relate to Eda’s former dreams of being in the Emperor’s Coven- For all we know, the message might even refer to another Witch entirely! It could relate to Luz, who has ambitions to be a witch, to Amity, who has ambitions to be in the Emperor’s Coven, or Lilith, who has ambitions to keep doing well and also save her sister! This possibility alludes to a major change in character drive and motive!
Amnesiac/Amnesias could also refer to Eda, who doesn’t remember how she got cursed- This possibility could mean that we learn who cursed her at the end of Season 1! Bear in mind the words I’ve offered don’t feel the most grammatically correct and come across as a bit awkward, however.
Going into stretch-territory, we have Amethyst, which might refer to the gems that Eda and Lilith have on their chests, especially since the code riddle in the show alludes to ‘Hearts of Stone’ shared amongst ‘Two witches torn apart’ (Also it might be a neat reference to Amethyst from Steven Universe, who has a chest gem). And then there’s Amateurs, which I HIGHLY doubt but I also thought it’d be funny, and that could refer to Luz and King- no offense. Maybe the group gets separated from Eda, who knows? Just don’t take this suggestion seriously...
I’ve ALSO considered, mostly on a whim, that the message could spell out, “A witch loses Amity---”, with ‘Am’ being the precursor to a name, not a word. However, this doesn’t really make any sense, because there’s still three letters unaccounted for, and even if you went with “A witch loses Amity’s” that still leaves a two-letter word and I don’t think there’s anything that’s a sufficient possibility from there. So, it COULD be a name starting with Am, just not Amity, meaning the titles don’t refer to Luz or Lilith.
If we also go by the idea that Mini-Problems is mistranslated, then the titles might actually be spelling out, “A witch loses a-------”, meaning either it’s “A witch loses a -------”, or “A witch loses A-------”.
Regarding the former option, I have considered words such as Teacher or Student, which both fit and are topical to our cast. This could mean that Eda and Luz get separated (or even Lilith and Amity)! There are so many seven-letter words to choose from that I can’t adequately cover EVERY possibility, unfortunately.
As for the latter option, there are A LOT of A-words with eight letters in them, so I kind of gave up on considering my options when I found 20+ pages of them after searching online, and that’s not even taking into account names, conventional or made-up! Suggestions are both welcomed and encouraged!
Continuing onwards, there’s the possibility of, “A witch loses a M------”, and I’ve come up with two options that could fit; Monster and Mystery. “A witch loses a mystery” is obvious, it means we get major plot revelations, probably in regards to who cursed Eda. “A witch loses a monster” could also imply that Eda gets cured of her curse... THAT, or she loses King, who is a ‘monster’- This possibility could even apply to Lilith, who might lose Eda, who is a ‘monster’ in her own way!
Nearing the end, there’s the possibility that Mini-Problems comes before AitE! The message could be “A witch loses ma------”! There were way too many possibilities for me to review all of them, but I found words such as Mainland, Manacles, and Mandrake! Mainland could refer to the Boiling Isles, Manacles could be a symbolic gesture of becoming free, and Mandrakes are plants used in magical rituals! So maybe they’re a vital ingredient to Eda’s elixir that she loses, who knows? Some of these are stretches and don’t quite grammatically fit, however. And there ARE names, fictional or real!
And finally, there’s the possibility that SaI, AitE, AND Mini-Problems are all out-of-order, meaning we have nine letters unaccounted for, the next of which is definitely S, another of which is definitely an A, and then maybe an M! For all we know there are even two S’s, with SaI being the second one! It could be “A witch loses (eight-letter word with some combination of M, A, S)” or “A witch loses (eight-letter word with only an A confirmed)”! The possibilities are endless and at this point I don’t think I could adequately cover them all.
TL;DR We have a few options;
A witch loses A-------
A witch loses a -------
A witch loses Am------
A witch loses a m------
A witch loses ma------
A witch loses -------- (with A somewhere there, and maybe an M and another S)
So that’s my overview of the possibilities we could have for the Episode Title Anagram! It’s not a perfect analysis and flawed in many respects, so I welcome and encourage any feedback and contributions! Given how the Season 1B titles could be spoiler-y, I’m starting to wonder if unlike Season 1A, the episode titles won’t be immediately revealed all at once?

Tumblr media
@biteyourcrush inquired:  🗡 DOI and two to three of them have already~! (Listen, Vera's ABSOLUTELY stoned a few folks off-screen, come at me) Would you kill for Miranda? - Not Accepting
Tumblr media
                     She knows.
That’s the funny thing, isn’t it? She knows. Even with only two out of three personally witnessed and the third easily guessed ( Vera had the best chance of personally understanding where Miranda was coming from, even with their differences being what they were ), it feels right. Right enough to not make Miranda blink, to not make her falter, to not even change that much beyond the gentle fluttering of her heartbeat.
It’s hard to describe the personal sense of connection she had to the concept of the knight. Not the literal ones, of course, even her own in her Knight’s Court, rude and boisterous and seldom motivated by anything other than tormenting others in the thin guise of doing it for the crown. No matter what was taught, that giving them that much freedom to do what they pleased was for the better of the people and Miranda’s control over them - it wasn’t personal. They were not any more invested in her than anyone else who worked beneath Miranda in her domain, and she tried to avoid meeting them for that.
The land, with all its flaws, came with a better envisioning of the system.
A personal code. A sworn oath. Those who walked proudly into battle bearing her flag and her name upon their lips. Who would protect her until their dying day and lay down their lives for her. Standing watch over her and her able to feel so safe under their watchful eyes and strengthened shields, who answered to her above all others of her family name, who looked upon her and knew that her health and safety was exactly the reason they were given life.
Miranda wasn’t sure how it was supposed to work. Not really, as the stories never exactly dealt with how to ensure that her knights were loyal and true and they would all hold her to the same high regard, as opposed to what her real knights were like, merely exploiting an opportunity given to them for their own ambitions. Even with Vicky so willing to pledge herself as Miranda’s knight, with Aaravi knowing all the dangers that existed and swearing to keep Miranda safe regardless - neither truly were the same as the stories. Neither Vicky nor Aaravi were citizens of the Merkingdom ( though she was... in a grey area, considering the tokens of teeth that Miranda had made with utmost love for her ), and Miranda could only ever visit the land.
But she didn’t really care. It wasn’t about it being literal. It was about the meaning behind it. It was that she was loved. Loved above just her title, above all of the flaws that Daddy or the royal tutors would be only too happy to list and her two eldest sisters would be so happy to dig into her back. She was valued. Her life was given weight beyond being a role that could just as easily fit another if she proved to be a failure.
Maybe that was a part of it. Sure, she had those that would kill and die for her. Soldiers, guards. Her personal little worker ants, serving her will because she was Crown Princess and her will was ultimate over hers. But she never had a part of their life. Wasn’t supposed to. They were little machine parts to be fed to the larger machine of militarization and war and enforcement, nameless numbers who she directed without ever seeing their faces if she didn’t want to. She had bigger game in mind. They would die for her because serving the kingdom was the only good they would ever get in their lives, and everything else would be taken from them if they did not comply. The propaganda machines spoke of how honorable it was, how noble, how doing that would keep their loved ones alive and safe, that their entire world would be overturned if they didn’t personally join and it would all be their fault, their fault, that their world would flash-boil and the last thing they would ever hear would be the screams and the last thing they would ever think was that they knew they caused this by denying the crown their rightful firepower.
But it didn’t have anything to do with Miranda. She had nothing to do with them. They lived so far beyond her realm that she wasn’t permitted to touch them, to know what they were nor who they were. They were not permitted to touch her own inner circles, to ever dare speak with her. It made them more willing to die that way, and her more willing to use them to do what she must.
She wanted connection. She wanted to know why, to know that someone was doing this for her. To be permitted even that much was too much to ask of her real empire, but it ached in her chest and filled her with a want to have another. Someone else who would hold her and touch her. Who didn’t do it for the Merkingdom nor fear, because it was about her, her alone, in a role that couldn’t be replaced. They who wouldn’t leave nor become faceless, bodiless numbers, because they were real and they were people, and they loved her above the kingdom and above her title and above all else. That they could find and discover the part of her that she didn’t think she had, something that wasn’t just a flaw nor a mistake, that wasn’t a role binding her by virtue of her birth and what she was given without asking, a part of her that existed on its own without anyone to witness it - and to so strictly form a code of honor to keep that safe.
It wasn’t real. Miranda knew that. She knew she couldn’t ask it of Vicky nor Aaravi nor Vera even if she wanted to, because it was not real and there was nothing for them to do from there.
Yet the desire sat so heavily in her chest. She wanted things to have meaning, because nothing else in her life had any meaning beyond what the Merkingdom told her, trying to fit her into shackles that were too tight around her wrists. She wanted herself to have meaning, because certainly she didn’t think she had any value beyond the crown atop her head. She wanted actions to have meaning, because she could sit and watch someone have their body and soul and mind broken in one go and not feel anything, not have it soothe any of the hurt that haunted her every step, not feeling anything beyond a growing despair and self hatred. She wanted other people to have meaning, because it hurt to be so alone in the world and so afraid of all that it contained without someone else to help her through.
All Miranda really wanted was to feel safe.                             And, around them, she finally got what she had been asking for.

I wanted to ask your advice on writing a trans character. I already have a ton of notes jotted down
I watch a lot of Trans Youtubers (Mainly anime fans) cuz I just enjoy listening to them talk, not to ‘study them’, but because I really like the community. I also simp for a lot of trans artists, like T-Stray, Twisted-Doctor, yourself. Trans people are just people, people who are largely prejudiced against and suffer so much, but people with their own hobbies, talents, dreams, and individualities. In the best-case scenario of representation, a queer person’s sexuality or gender is a secondary trait (except if the story mainly focuses on it) First comes their personality, role in the story, goal, talents, and struggles. The prejudice they face is definitely a struggle, but it’s something they fight against to follow their dreams, goals, and ambitions. You can’t continuously preach to the audience but you can’t ignore that these problems don’t exist, people want to see realistic, flawed, and interesting characters who also have their identity. Representation is normalization.
Charlie is motivated to help her people and save their lives, and also wants approval from her family, she also happens to be a bi woman dating another woman. People got so mad at Katie’s “I Don’t touch the Gays” line but to me, it subtly shows that in this world, even though we have a large queer cast, homophobes and other phobes still exist in this world. Even though it’s a throwaway line and kind of funny cuz she immediately pokes Charlie afterward, it shows that this show is both wacky and realistic.
My character Stevie is an 18 yo transgender woman. She was born of a shower thought. After I noticed that male imps have ringed horns and females have black horns, I thought “Would trans imps paint their horns?”.
- She is, ironically, the straight man in a group of crazies (like Vaggie and Moxie), she is blunt, no-nonsense and sarcastic
- She plays the keytar in Fuck You Dad, loves her bandmates, and dreams of making it far with her music. She also isn’t shy about singing with her deep voice.
- Her identity is connected to her troubled relationship with her father. After she came out her father left and her mom and brother stood by her.
- “ WTF did I miss. Every fucking day there’s SOMETHING NEW!” Describes her perfectly. She’s the gif of the guy with pizza walking into his apartment to find absolute chaos.
- She gets bouts of anxiety and depression. She isn’t meant to be a depressing character but has a lot of realness to her. I’m not trans but I have dealt with the former two things.
- She lives with her brother Loo (The guy in the LooLoo land suit) and her mom who she loves even though there dumb as balls.
I wanted to drive my concept by you to make sure I didn’t get anything wrong or if there was anything you wanted to add.
I mean, I’m just one person and not a trans woman (very different experience there), but I don’t see any problem here! I love the idea of trans imps and how they’d deal with the horn thing. I also like that she’s a singer in a band called Fuck You Dad who isn’t shy about her voice...it’s very Laura Jane Grace.
Honestly, don’t stress too much. Running her by someone else was totally fine and a good idea, but as long as you keep in mind that trans people are just people, you should be good. She sounds nuanced and fun and human and that’s what matters.

TW: Sexual assault Hi, You mentioned in a post that in 'untouched' Cordelia blamed Bethany for being raped can you please elaborate what you mean by that because I don’t remember anything like that. (By the way Im not calling you a liar, I'd just like clarification)
Hi! I can’t answer your question without discussing the episode’s fatal flaw - Bethany.
Along with Faith, we can add Bethany to the list of young seductresses in fiction who are both naive and jaded, smart yet very stupid, were victims but became monsters, and can’t control their own powers. Naturally, these women are taken advantage of (notably by women) and need a man to help them out.
Bethany is yet another poor woman who isn’t allowed control over any part of her life. Her body isn’t hers - she can’t be touched because of her trauma and doesn’t know how to control her powers - and her mind is stuck in the past. The fact that Bethany can’t control her powers means they control her, which only makes it easier for her to be taken advantage of. It also means that a victim becomes a villain, but only by accident - she has neither the ambition nor the resourcefulness to avenge herself.
Bethany’s entire story is about being a victim, but worse than the writers’ choice to use child abuse and rape to knock together a character is their refusal to let Bethany grow up. She’s a child (”Why does everyone wanna play with me? I don't wanna play!”) in a woman’s body and furthermore her identity as a woman is reduced to sex. She admits to letting men use her for sex (aka rape) to please them because of her trauma, but, ironically, she can’t be touched at all because her powers go off and she murders the guy she’s with.
I’m sure the writers thought they were clever because Bethany wasn’t just an innocent little girl - she was an “empowered” victim who “weaponized” sex and was quote, unquote, a slut - yet they denied Bethany her agency, growth and bodily autonomy. Using sex to control and “empower” a woman is so old-school, and even more old-school is pitting women against women.
Allow me to step into the writers’ minds for a hot sec; to them, Bethany is the worst kind of woman: the kind of woman other women hate. As women, Cordelia and Lilah knew Bethany’s true nature, which is the nature of all women - being duplicitous. Cordelia thought Bethany was “vibey” (she sensed a sexual energy coming from her), and warned her not to sleep with Angel. She knew Bethany was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This entire narrative reeks of “men should be strict with women, otherwise they’ll show their true colors” and “no woman is innocent”. Cordelia could’ve shown Bethany kindness but instead she implied that Bethany made a choice to kill her would be rapists. Funny how Bethany’s only in control of her powers when it comes to victim blaming.
Lastly, I would like to point out how disgusting the scene where Angel teaches Bethany how to control her powers is. The writers use suggestive sentences to make it seem like Angel is teaching Bethany about sex... Are they for real?
Anyway, Untouched is a deeply misogynist episode that highlights all the issues with Whedon and co’s feminism and the 90s in general. Cordelia was, from the beginning of BtVS, someone who puts down other women, and this episode was an example of that.
Thanks for the ask!
