10 Months Clean - Just rambling about my thoughts today. Not necessarily in order either.

I am a little over 10 months clean. I very, very rarely get thoughts of using or cravings. I am content with the thought of not using again.

Today though I drove through 7 towns/cities to get to a dentist appointment. I have lived (or been homeless) & used in all of these places. When I go through them and I pass a place I used to cop my shit, or my favorite gas station with the good bathroom to get high in, or a pass a street or neighborhood where some craziness went down, I get the worst anxiety ever. It doesn’t make me want to use... but I end up wanting to tell my stories. Shit, I have over 10 years of stories. I catch myself telling them to my boyfriend (who has never done drugs and is one of my biggest supporters of my sobriety) and it starts to make me feel like a shitty human being. I don’t think I should get excited about reminiscing about the good old drugs days. So instead, I try to just block them all out and the anxiety strikes.

I kept track today. While driving down the highway and through 7 towns I couldn’t go one minute driving without being able to point out a place where I got high.

How the fuck am I managing staying clean? How in the hell do I not get cravings? How is it that one day I just had the magical powers to quit? It wasn’t even a decision I made... it just kind of happened. Whatever the hell it is, I’m so grateful to say that I have 10 months clean and sober. Thank God for giving me the strength, love, support, willpower, and life to start fresh.

I know eventually the anxiety will go away, and I will create better memories in place of the other ones. Until then, it’s very incomfortable. I feel like it makes my boyfriend uncomfortable.

Also, I have no friends. Literally... I have my mom, my two children, and my boyfriend (who doesn’t count in this instance.) But, I have no one to tell secrets to. I have no one calling me up asking me to hang out. I have no one to laugh with or make jokes with. I guess I am okay with it, but the more time that passes the worse I feel about it. If I had a friend to tell my crazy stories to, or someone I could share my deepest darkest secrets that are eating away my mind... maybe things would be a little easier. Although after living the lifestyle I was living for over a decade, you lose your faith in trusting people.
