If I have to read one more "I hate picky eaters, they have the taste palette of a 5-year-old" post, I WILL actually start killing people. You don't want to be around "picky eaters?" Fine, then get the fuck away from us. We're better off without your judgment.
"But wahhhh why won't they just try something new" Shut. Up. Look up how things like adhd, autism, depression, and many more affect eating. Look up food allergies, intolerances, and general sensitivities. FUCKING LOOK UP ARFID. Seriously I am so damn tired of people not knowing shit about arfid, refusing to research even when I tell them about it (most of my doctors don't even know anything about it even though they've known about my struggles for over two years!) And then you have the nerve to shame us for dealing with an eating disorder that is fuck all hard to work through cuz, again, no one knows fucking shit about it and they don't want to learn! My therapist reached out to an eating disorder clinic to find help for me, and the only goddamn one who even knew it existed was the director.
Stay the hell away from so-called "picky eaters" if you're gonna make post after post complaining about how annoying you find us, or how you just so badly want to go to restaurants with your friend but they eat like a child! Go alone, asshole.

I wish more people knew about ARFID and how much it can affect you. As someone who has it, it’s so discouraging seeing people every now and then online (or irl) make fun of people for being “picky eaters” who see it as a sign of immaturity. It doesn’t matter how old and mature I get, that doesn’t make my sensory issues and lack of hunger cues from bad interoception somehow disappear.

Okay hang on...
Are there any characters in any media with ARFID?
There are more and more autistic characters but I have not seen a single one with ARFID.
I would like to see a character with ARFID please. I think it would make me feel better about having it.

Hi! My name is Lucas and I have Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, or ARFID. ARFID is a disorder where people greatly restrict the food they eat and avoid many others, due to sensory issues such as texture or smell or due to a fear of negative consequences such as getting sick. Mine is due to sensory issues. I wanted to make a series sharing foods I eat, tips on how to try foods, and more! Welcome to Lucas's Safe Foods!

i don't forget to eat, i just ignore being hungry because literally nothing is appetizing at that moment, and trying to eat something would just result in it being left unfinished and being thrown away
like ill just go "hm im hungry", think about what is available to eat, realize i dont want any of it, and then proceed to ignore it until the food seems appetizing enough

I had a small win over ARFID and OCD today!!
So, a little backstory for this to make sense, ARFID causes me to be extremely picky with foods out of fear of throwing up, to the point where I eat the same things every day, and have been my whole life. My OCD makes me worry about throwing up as well, but that makes me do or avoid certain things in order to not throw up.
I really wanted caesar salad earlier, and the only salad kit we had had a "guaranteed fresh" date for about a week ago. Usually, I just wouldn't eat it, but this time I decided that I really wanted this salad, and the lettuce still looked fine. So, I pushed past the thoughts of "What if I throw up? What if it's bad?" and I ate it anyway! And it was a really fucking good salad!!

Big ARFID News
There's a new documentary out on the disorder!
Do you know an extreme picky eater? A friend that may just eat bread or french fries at a restaurant? Eric Pascarelli thought he was just a picky eater himself. He ate his first vegetable at 30 years old. Not Just a Picky Eater follows Eric as he gets to the root of what is really going on. Along his journey, he finds others who are just like him. Eric's hope is that this film will raise awareness on this little-known eating disorder that affects millions worldwide.

I think the brand of chicken nuggets we get was just ruined for me
I was having some chicken nuggets with a nice little garlic parmesan sauce I made, when I notice something long and white sticking out of the nugget I'd just took a bite from. I thought it would be a hard piece of chicken or something, so I pull it out.
No. Not chicken. Not bone. A small, white feather probably the length of my pinky finger. A chicken's feather was in the meat.
And now I feel sick 🤢

If you have ARFID and you tried a new food recently I am very proud of you. So few people understand what you're dealing with around eating but you are being very brave.

Oh boy I sure do love the difference between my partner's reaction and my mum's reaction when I manage to eat something small because I have a LITERAL EATING DISORDER
Partner: Good job! Proud of you! You did well!
Mum: That's nothing you missed a meal
Gee thanks mum I love being reminded that my appetite is slowly killing me and that every tiny effort I make gets me absolutely nowhere :3
