We as a society need an autism health and fitness guide. I have really strong ARFID and disabilities that are more common when you are also autistic. Having better advice and tips that aren't just "meal prep the fuck outta your life" or "starve" would be nice.

Okay hang on...
Are there any characters in any media with ARFID?
There are more and more autistic characters but I have not seen a single one with ARFID.
I would like to see a character with ARFID please. I think it would make me feel better about having it.

Eating nothing but a McDonald’s nugget happy meal for the 3rd day in a row because it’s the only thing you can eat without literally wanting to rip out your own stomach and set it on fire 🙃

Brain: You have an eating disorder
Me: No I don't it's perfectly normal to be disgusted by food. And everyone has gagged at some point while eating.
Brain: Sure.
Me: And I'm sure most people are blocking the food tag because it's making them sick.
Brain: Oh honey no.

After being at college with friends and roommates who understand both autism and me, I’ve realized how much it like….actually affects me? I guess I always was just like “yeah I have low support needs level one high functioning yada yada yada” and now I’m realizing that I’m maybe a little less normal than I actually thought. Which is fine and all. But I just had to kick my girlfriend out of the room because she was eating a sandwich with onions. And recently I’ve been screaming whenever anyone opens the fridge because it smells bad. And I just sent my mom a text telling her how I was eating a salad today and she was so proud of me. So yeah I actually really am autistic.

i am always reluctant to say i have arfid because a "friend" i had like. over a year ago fakeclaimed me and said it was just "normal autistic food aversion"
but also. theres this restaurant i want to try on campus and im terrified to try it because i dont know all of the ingredients in the sauces or all of the seasonings they put in certain items and so therefore even though the food looks and smells really good im convinced it will make me throw up (i am terrified of throwing up)

ARFID/OCD post-
(Mention of foods taste/smell being wrong/being like something else other than the food)
I just made food because i woke up feeling like i was about to expire if I didn’t. It was all good, i made some vegan fish fingers (basically just artificial fish because I can’t eat real meat) and I’ve had them before, if anyone theyre a safe food but i took one bite [i am 100% certain they were fully cooked] and for some reason it tasted like how flake fish food smells(they don’t normally). I managed to convince myself to take another bite even though i was already panicking and so unbelievably close to gagging and it was even worse than the first bite.
This is why I normally rely on snacks more than food that has to be cooked. I have now lost a safe food and never want to cook again. The only thing that is keeping me from spiraling right now is the fact that i made multiple, so now at least i can check they were cooked everytime i start to panic again about getting sick or something happening because of it.
Anyway thats enough ranting for one day, if anyone is reading, i hope you have a good day ^_^

Just curious. If you are too, reblog for a bigger sample size.

Does anybody else with ARFID and/or sensory issues notice that if one of your senses is involved, then all of them are? for example, if i see a fear food on tv, i will then start thinking that i can smell it and taste it, and it really bothers me. am really hoping i’m not the only one.

food gives me so much anxiety. it’s not just about the calories tho. it’s…
“is it going to be too hot or too cold?”
“is it going to be spicy or not taste good?”
“is there gonna be a hard/chewy part in it that i’ll hate?”
“is the textures going to be off somehow?”
“will i like it enough to eat it?”
plus, the anxiety about eating certain foods in front of people is getting worse…

Been looking into ARFID and was curious which of the diagnostic criterias tend to be the most common!
Also I will kindly ask if you'd like to reblog with any experience about your ARFID to tw any mentions of restrictive behaviour and stuff along those lines! Thank you :]!

Engaging with my current special interest or hyperfixation while eating has helped me get down food a lot easier. Just thought I'd share that in case it helped anyone else.

I must eat. Not eating is the mind-killer. Not eating is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
